Essay about Women in The Workplace
Women in The Workplace
Gender plays a huge role in workplace success and can be a big challenge especially if the employee
is a woman in a male dominated workplace or career. No matter how hard nosed, ruthless, workaholic
a woman may be, or how much personal success she achieves, there will always tend to be some type
of obstacle to keep her from getting completely to the top of the corporate ladder. She must also still
fight stereotypes that undermines her confidence or limits her potential. Since the early 20th century,
women and minorities have sought equal opportunities in education and in the labor force with little
success. These obstacles or barriers are all known as the glass ceiling.

Every industry has its own version of an apprenticeship and the simple way to determine the boundary
of apprenticeship is to find where in a particular company or organization, the line is that must be
crossed before an individual is ?in the pack? to be considered for management or leadership.
According to the ?Sorcerer?s Apprentice to Through the Looking Glass,? women in every industry
and profession report that sexual harassment is most common during apprenticeship. Sexual
harassment is frequently defended as being just part of the normal hazing that is meted out to
apprentices. It is one of the most important mechanisms that implement the glass ceiling at the level of
apprenticeship. Although it may sound trivial to say that sexual harassment has a dramatically greater
effect on women than men, it is important to understand that its use may be the difference in how well
women perform during apprenticeship, and even whether they complete the apprenticeship at all.
One effective effort that an organization can make to eliminate the glass ceiling would be for an
organization to delineate its own apprenticeship, and pay particular attention to the fact that the
apprentices are almost certainly underreporting the problem of sexual harassment. This does not men

Argumentative Essay Titled Stay Positive
Stay Positive
Even if things may seem bad, you should always stay positive.
If you were in a horrible situation, what would you do?
You should always be positive no matter what situation you are in. Like Anne Frank when she was in
hiding and she had looked on the brighter side of their hiding place. Someone else who looked on the
brighter side of things was Winston Churchill. While the Axis powers were taking over Europe
Churchill kept Great Britain hopeful and calm. Anne Frank is well known for her diary which held the
information of the events that she had gone through while in hiding with her family. She had died 1
week before the camps were liberated. Her diary holds the information of each day she was in hiding.
Each day had a more serious feeling, but she kept a positive attitude. When her family was upset about
the chiming of the western clock, but she had gotten used to it and had accepted it and even though in
her words ¨It may be damp and lopsided, but there s probably not a more comfortable hiding place in
all of Amsterdam. No, in all of Holland.¨ As we can see even though it is damp and lopsided Anne
Frank looks at the brighter things. Winston Churchill also looked on the brighter side of things. He

Elie had kept calm during the holocaust in Auschwitz. Examples of him staying calm is when he and
his father were separated from his mother and his sister. This is a quote that shows how he stayed
positive. ¨Confidence soared. Suddenly we felt free of the previous night s terrors. We gave thanks to
God. . This quote shows an example of hope. Hope is a form of positivity, so with that, it shows Elie
has had a positive attitude. He stayed positive and calm when he had a gold tooth taken away and then
found out it was pointless when he was killed for his side business of selling the teeth. He had also
kept calm when the bombs were dropped at

Introduction to Economic System
What is system?
System (from Latin systema, in turn from Greek systēma) is a set of interacting or interdependent
entities, real or abstract, forming an integrated whole.
A group of interdependent items that interact regularly to perform a task.
Economic System
An economic system is a system that involves the production, distribution and consumption of goods
and services between the entities in a particular society. The economic system is composed of people
and institutions, including their relationships to productive resources, such as through the convention
of property. In a given economy, it is the systemic means by which problems of economics are
addressed, such as the economic problem of scarcity through allocation of finite ... Show more content

A central directorate controls the production of goods and services. The directorate decides the nature,
quantity, and mood of production of goods. This distribution of goods is also directed by the central
body.
Socialism refers to a broad set of economic theories of social organization advocating state or
collective ownership and administration of the means of production and distribution of goods, and the
creation of an egalitarian society.
Modern socialism originated in the late nineteenth century working class political movement. Karl
Marx posited that socialism would be achieved via class struggle and a proletarian revolution which
represents the transitional stage between capitalism and communism.
Socialists mainly share the belief that capitalism unfairly concentrates power and wealth among a
small segment of society that controls capital and creates an unequal society. All socialists advocate
the creation of an egalitarian society, in which wealth and power are distributed more evenly, although
there is considerable disagreement among socialists over how, and to what extent this could be
achieved
Some features of socialism are written below 1. Socialism is not a discrete philosophy of fixed
doctrine and program 2. Its branches advocate a degree of social interventionism and economic
rationalization, sometimes opposing each other. 3. Another dividing

Is Adam The Most To Blame For The Fall Of Humanity Analysis
Why is Adam the most to blame for the fall of humanity? Adam is depicted as the main reason for the
fall of humanity, because Adam had many opportunities and qualities that Eve never possessed. First,
readers see Adams faults when the author writes, What weakness offered, strength might have
refused,/ Being lord of all, the greater was his shame, (Lanyer 35 36). Here Adam is presented as a
failure, due to his inability to remain strong like God created him to be. Weakness is not a quality that
should found in God s perfect creation. Next, we also see Adam go against Gods spoken word, And
from God s mouth received that strait command,/ The breach whereof he knew was present death;/
Yea, having power to rule both sea and land,/ Yet with one apple won to lose that breath, (Lanyer 43
46). Adam was the only one to hear God s one specific rule. He was aware of the repercussions, While
Eve never heard the warning from God s mouth. Adam s weakness and lack of leadership proves why
he is to blame for the destruction instead of Eve. 2. Why does the author chose the title Eve s Apology
in Defense of Women ? The author chose the title to illustrate Eve s Apology for her actions, while
implying her power towards equality for women. In the beginning, the author provides an image of
female power, writing, But hear the words of thy most worthy wife,/ Who sends to thee, to beg her
Savior s life, (Lanyer 7 8). Here Pilate s wife states her strong opinion on the crucifixion of

Compare Disabled And An Unknown Girl
How do Disabled and An Unknown Girl convey the sense of personal identity?
Our personal identity shapes who we are or shall become, it is how a person sees them self, fitting into
their surroundings. Both Owen and Alvi explore the unpredictable personal identity of a person and
how it changes their lives for the worse in their poems Disabled and An Unknown Girl. The former
poem, filled with pathos, demonstrates a soldier s joyful life prior to and after WWI where he suffered
a devastating tragedy, losing all his limbs, emphasizing his deformed personal identity throughout the
poem. The latter, however, depicts a cultural visitor experiencing India in hopes of fulfilling her
somewhat incomplete heritage (and thus, personal identity), in which ... Show more content on

The persona illustrates his former personal identity in Disabled and the persona in An Unknown Girl
portrays the breathtaking views around her as she imaginatively experiences India. And girls glanced
lovelier as the air grew dim , the persona in Disabled describes; this use of alliteration indicate that the
majority of the persona s identity was made up of his appeal to women. His face was younger than his
youth reveals a young man s life with a bright future ahead of him. The sense of a pleasant past is
reinforced when soon, he was drafted out with drums and cheers which emphasises the joyous idea of
joining the war, although naïve and fallacious. He thought of jeweled hilts, for daggers in plaid socks;
of smart salutes; and care of arms; and leave; and pay arrears; Espirit de corps; and hints for young
recruits . This list of numerous optimistic ambitions, irrelevant to the war itself suggests that the
persona was deluded by the glorified image of war. Rather than being aware of the tragic reality, he
joined the war selfishly and out of vanity for even Germans he scarcely thought of . The persona in An
Unknown Girl contributes to the same exciting mood as she exhibits the scenery of India as it
becomes a part of her personal identity. In the evening bazaar, studded with neon portrays the idea of
the persona discovering a new, colourful identity since this is

Essay on Stomach Cancer
Stomach cancer, also known as gastric cancer, is a type of cancer that develops slowly over many
years. Most frequently, stomach cancer starts in the lining of the stomach otherwise knows as the
mucosa, and then develops into the other layers of the stomach. There are many ways in which
stomach cancer spreads. In some cases it invades near by organs or it can also travel through the
bloodstream to for cancer in other organs. There are many statistics and organizations of support for
stomach cancer, as well as, symptoms, risk factors, screening and diagnosis and, treatments. Like all
cancers, stomach cancer is a deathly disease and one of the major leading causes of cancer deaths in

Most of the symptoms of stomach cancer can be signs of other health issues and usually are not
stomach cancer though. There is no way to tell if you have stomach cancer but if you have any of
these symptoms you should go to the doctor as soon as possibly just to be sure. There are many risk
factors for stomach cancer. Gender is a minor risk factor because men are more likely to get stomach
cancer than women are. Age is a risk factor as well because most people are over the age of 65 when
they are diagnosed with stomach cancer. Ethnicity is a big risk factor because the rate cancer is higher
in Hispanics and African Americans rather than non Hispanic white. Tobacco use is a risk factor for
stomach cancer along with most of every other type of cancer. Smoking doubles the risk for someone
to get cancer. It has been proven that people with Type A Blood are more likely to get stomach cancer
as well. Some other risk factors are things like bacteria infection, diet, earlier stomach surgery,
stomach polyps, and oddly enough, some occupations in coal, metal, and rubber industries are even
risk factors of stomach cancer. There are a few different ways to be diagnosed and/or screened for
stomach cancer. One way is an upper endoscopy. This allows the doctor to see anything not normal in
the GI tract that wouldn t be shown in an x ray. Risks of this procedure usually don t happen but if

The Rise Of Musculoskeletal Disorders
The increase of sedentary leisure and work related activities has also brought the rise of
musculoskeletal disorders (MSDs) and now account for 31% of non fatal work related injuries making
them the most common (Bureau of Labor Statistics, 2016). Therefore, it is highly advantageous to
employers to suggest ways of reducing symptoms to theoretically reduce costs associated with MSDs
in the workplace (sick leave, medical costs, etc.). Work related MSDs are caused by complex
combination of factors that can extend from beyond the workplace and cause pain and discomfort of
muscles, tendons, joints, and nerves (Rodrick, Karwowski, Marras, 2012). As a result, finding a single
root cause of a MSD is nearly impossible. Due to the difficulty in ... Show more content on

Despite classification as strong studies, by previous systematic analyses, each study was again
reviewed for validity and reliability for inclusion. All studies must meet the following requirements:
random controlled trials, replicable studies, are not confounded with additional simultaneous
interventions, utilize resistance exercises targeted to the neck/shoulder area, are workplace related, and
including participants that had been experiencing pain related to the neck/shoulder prior to the
intervention. Types of exercises being performed Of the RCTs with significant data, the majority of
interventions slowly increased the level of resistance as the intervention progressed (Andersen, et al.,
2012; Caputo, Bari, Orellana, 2017; Jay, et al., 2011). However, one intervention tested two groups
against one other where one underwent progressive change and the other remained at a fixed level of
resistance and despite finding a significant decrease in pain symptoms overall did not find a
significant difference between the two groups (Li, et al., 2017). This suggests that it is not critical to
increase difficulty during the intervention, to achieve relief from neck/shoulder pain. A few of the
RCTs were also measuring increases in strength, wherein an increase in resistance may be necessary
to continually build strength, but it is not necessary for pain relief. It may also potentially put
individuals at risk of more

Comparison Of Tattoo-Motives And Imagery
Tattoo Motives and Imagery
Tattooing is definitely nothing new today: the mummified tattooed skins, ancient tattoo tools,
primitive artworks that depict tattooed figures and other archaeological discoveries all suggest that
tattooing has existed since around Neolithic times. It was practiced for religious and cultural reasons
with varying styles and imageries across cultures. This paper will examine a few tattoo designs
originated from Japan and Borneo and some traditional motifs that help us recognize their cultural
roots.
The process of tattooing is brutal and painful; more so in the past as it involved the chiseling of skin in
some cultures. Nevertheless, tattoos have received great popularity in contemporary times, especially
in America. I will therefore first explore the various reasons for which people tattoo themselves
referencing Michael Atkinson s book Tattooed: The Sociogenesis of a Body Art. Meanwhile, it seems
that very few scholars have examined changes in the tattoo imagery. Since around the 1990s, the
increased accessibility to traditional ethnic designs from different cultures has enabled people to

In Figure 3, the design has an illustration of four bones from human vertebrae that is shaded. The thin
lines that compose the bones contrast the thick dark black line pattern in the background. The pattern
seems to have been inspired from Borneo tattoo designs as the bold lines intersect or overlap each
other and always end with pointy edges. The tattoo design in Figure 4, similarly, incorporates the solid
lines from Borneo tattoo. Curiously, two of the lines resemble receptacles and are in conjunction with
two red flowers on the ends, making the other lines look like plant leaves. In this way, the modern and
traditional imageries are combined harmoniously and a third color is added to a design that is
conventionally black and

Child Labour Is An International Issue
Intro:
Child labour is one of the many things that is happening today in our world. A child does many
different types of work and activities in their daily life, within factories in different countries.
According to the Fresh Quotes You have the power to create a better future. Treat children well. This
quote shows how some people are against this issue. It makes people think how different children life
are across the world. The reasons behind this are children being involved in child labor are suffering
from unsafe work conditions, the lack of education, and a loss of their childhood. Others might be
poverty, illiteracy, ignorance, and poor legal system. These are countless cause why child labour is an
international issue that might promote the business of ruthless business investors, however it destroys
the future of children. Therefore child labour should be stopped. Body 1:
Claim 1:Terrible working conditions for children.
Support 1:
Factories do not have any safety measures in place for children to be protected from machinery or
equipment that they work with.
Evidence 1:
It is work which, by its nature or the circumstances in which it is carried out, is likely to harm the
health, safety or morals of children (ILO)
Elaboration 1:
Children work in dangerous and also unhealthy conditions which sometimes result in accidents that
cause injury or death. They are forced to lift heavy objects that could cause chronic problems at a
young age. They can be exposed to

Virtue Ethical Theories
Different ethical theories would view this issue in various ways. Virtue ethics believes in placing a
heavy focus on moral character, while focusing less on the action itself. In this situation a virtue
ethicist would evaluate if ending or continuing Samantha s treatment would impact her moral
character. The beliefs of strong moral character carried by a virtue ethicist would encourage Samantha
to further her parents wishes of continuing treatment. A virtue ethicist respect for human life causes
them to believe that Samantha should continue treatment because of the courage and strength it shows.
However some virtue ethicist might argue that because of the value for human life, Samantha should
be allowed to discontinue treatment to end the immense suffering she is in. A virtue ethicist would

the golden mean, believing in exercising courage and pride. A virtue ethicist who does not exercise

of Samantha s case in order to make a decision. A virtue ethicist might struggle in making a decision

Differences Between Hamlet And The Lion King
Fairy tales have helped children deal with things they fear. Now a days, the fairy tales children are
aware are not the Hans Christian Anderson, Studio Ghibli or Brothers Grimm, but Disney. Disney has
taken the typification portrayal in the fairy tales, make it a reality and took it to entertainment industry.
Comparing the original narrative to the Disney version, most of the stories have went through
retellings and alternation; for example Hamlet and The Lion King. Disney has inadvertently neglected
these stories origin and motive. Many agree and have picked up The Lion King, Disney s most
watched and victorious movie till date, as Disney s only original movie; the only movie which is
previously has not been a fairy tale. However, this is not the true. While The Lion King may not be
based on a fairy tale, it is a matter of fact strongly based on the play by William Shakespeare called

Whenever I hear someone say, Remember the Alamo I can t help but think of how Texas won its

In 1836, the Mexican Army being led by the Dictator, President Santa Anna had its sights set on taking
everything that it could from the people of Texas, while in route as they marched their way toward the
San Antonio mission known as the Alamo. The Alamo was one of two fortified missions that were
quickly established as preparation for defense against the Mexican Army which were advancing from

Coping Mechanisms In Drinking Habits By Banana Yoshimoto
Coping mechanisms vary greatly from person to person and are a defining factor in one s life. For this
reason, Banana Yoshimoto provides the theme that it is necessary to find positive coping mechanisms
in every situation to limit the despair one faces; she does this through her juxtaposition of Yuichi and
Mikage and the use of the scene where the two eat dinner together after Erikos death. Yoshimoto does
this through her use of Yuichi and his drinking habits on pages sixty through sixty three. Yoshimoto
opens the scene with Yuichi returning from the store where he bought food to make dinner with
Mikage. When Yuichi returns to the apartment he is carrying a bag which he lays down with a thud

Lao Tzu Leadership Analysis
Lao Tzu is considered the Father of Taoism and was searching for an individual s path of natural
goodness. He once said Be the Chief, but never the lord. This quote has been very inspirational to me
throughout my Coast Guard career and has guided me to my definition of Leadership. A lord is given
this title by inheritance or positional power granted by landowners. A Chief is chosen by the village.
The person is selected to make the right decisions for the benefit of the people. It is earned. Based on
my interpretation of Lao Tzu s quote, my definition of leadership is to have others follow by choice
not by mere power. A person cannot rule by force given to them by rank and expect subordinates to
follow. They must demonstrate leading by example and be a role model for others to follow.
Leadership Influences As I reflect back, I have seen my definition in my mentors and supervisors. A
short list of the mentors I revered include: CWO4 Kenneth Hawko, MSTCM Judd Reno, Commander
John Humpage, CWO4 William Thomas, and BMC Mike Hunt. Their leadership seemed to naturally
be in their personalities but I now realize it was so prominent because I saw them as my leaders. Those
traits are what made me choose to follow them.

Giant Steppes Toward Freedom by Ancestors
It is difficult for many Americans today to imagine taking everything they own and moving to a new
country because of religious and political freedoms. With these freedoms taken so much for granted,
we rarely think of the steps taken by our ancestors to gain that liberty. When looking at attempts in
history to gain freedom, it is usual to look to the founding fathers of America and their sacrifices.
However, other groups of people have strived for the same thing, one such group being the people of
the divided German states shortly after the Seven Year s War. Through several generations of
Germans, these people moved across country, across continent, and eventually even across the ocean
to America in order to gain that much desired freedom. In about 1763, the Germans were experiencing
many problems. With the seven years war just behind them, much of the land had been destroyed.
Crops were trampled, and properties were decimated, making the living conditions in Germany very
difficult. On top of that, the war had left the political system in a state of chaos. At that time, Germany
was not together as a nation but was rather divided into forty two different states. Unified Germany as
we know it today did not come about until much later, in about 1872. During this time minority
religions struggled in the German states. Evangelical Christians such as Baptists were not looked well
upon, as well as Mennonites who were pacifists and did not believe in serving in the military.

The Displacement Of Persons
The displacement of persons, better known as refugees, is an inescapable and persistent issue in our
global world. Current reports estimate that there are 19.5 million refugees worldwide ( UNHCR
2014). Among this estimation 2.59 million, or a little over 13% of the refugees in the world are from
Afghanistan ( UNHCR 2014). Afghanistan is entering into its fourth decade of war, beginning with the
1979 Afghan Soviet war to recent violence involving Al Qaida and U.S. military forces. During this
time period, the U.S. has resettled thousands of refugees around the country, providing them with
housing, temporary cash assistance and support. One of the major issues in resettling this specific
demographic is the prevalence of mental health among Afghan refugees. Such constant states of
violence and forced fleeing from homes has left Afghans with traumatic stressors, often leading to
mental health issues in the future. Mental health is a huge concern among refugee and asylees
population in the U.S.as many members of these populations have encountered traumatic past
experience such as war violence and torture and are at a high risk in developing depression, post
traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), and anxiety (Kleinman, 2004). In past studies, services for mental
health were identified as a major need in the social work sphere. Factors such as limited access to
quality healthcare, linguistic barriers, meager financial resources, cultural unfamiliarity and a lack of

Witness, By Peter Weir
The 1985 film Witness displays the concept of No man is an island, entire of itself, every man is an
island, entire of itself, a part of the main. This means that every man has a place within
society/community and cannot make one by himself. Peter Weir explores this in the film with
belonging and not belonging, and is shown through the narrative, context, camera angles, soundtrack
etc. From different perspectives, in the film, it may or may not be possible to successfully withdraw
from mainstream society and belong to a closed community. It is stated that every man is a part of the
main in John Donne s poem No man is an island. This is shown to be possible from different
perspectives in Peter Weir s film, Witness .

Minor Characters In Macbeth Essay
Macbeth is a play written by William Shakespeare, the play s genre is a tragedy. The play is about
Macbeth who kills the King of Scotland (Duncan) so he can become king himself. It is the minor
characters in Macbeth who attract our interest, this is shown in the three paragraphs below in which
Banquo, Duncan and Malcolm are classed as minor characters and how they attract our interest.
Banquo s role throughout the play is to be dramatic which then provides an effective foil for Macbeth.
The temptations of the witches were shown to be avoided by Banquo resulting Macbeth to act
somewhat normal. Equal in status to Macbeth as a commander, and similarly ambitious Banquo
expresses unshakeable moral principles and an ability to tell right from wrong. He warns Macbeth the
witches may be instruments of darkness and not be trusted. When Macbeth hints that they might plot
together, Banquo states firmly he will keep his allegiance clear . After Duncan s body is discovered, he

Duncan is shown as a character who is noble, wise and loyal. He is honourable and isn t detained by

trusting. He realised this when he made an error with the unfaithful Thane of Cawdor: he was a
gentleman on whom I built an absolute trust . The next line is Enter Macbeth which is ironic in what
happens later in the play. This is the scene in which Macbeth s attitude changes completely. He is now
full of anger and has turned evil which result in a deadly murder. But Duncan s flaw would cost him

Multicultural Communities and Multi-Faith Practices
In the past decade, Ireland became an increasing multicultural community from different nationalities
accompanying multi faith practices.[1] Despite the acknowledgment of the fact that diversity of race,
religion, language, and cultural background between people is crucial in the healthcare environment, it
is more important to develop cultural competency in hospitals to ensure high quality health care
service exclusive of inequalities and responsive to the requirements of the diverse patients.[2][3] This
report highlights the barriers leading to poor multicultural communication in the healthcare setting
where communication can be affected by religious consideration and recommends some solutions to
tackle this problem. We have chosen this topic in specific to explore on the role of religious beliefs in
the medical decision making, and the importance of caregivers not to assume homogeneity among
their patients since religious beliefs is considered as an integral component of a patient s holistic
healthcare.[1] The aim of this report to identify some strategies of good practice regarding faith and
spirituality in a healthcare context to ensure quality and equality of care provided by healthcare
workers in Ireland. Intercultural communication is progressively pertinent in the health
communication. This is because difficulties arise when communicating about different health issue as
cultural diversity increases in the population.[4] There are number of issues that demote

been fighting for, he did not respond with helplessness. He held his ground by not giving into the fear
that Caine had wished to be spelled upon him and his army of children. The children were not able to
feel this fear because they felt if Sam stayed strong the rest would follow. Not only is Sam
courageous, he is also a leader. First, when electing a person to be in charge of Perdido Beach kids

Also, Sam acts like a leader in that he wants to be a good role model to the kids of the town. He
believes that if he wants people to follow his order he must first do what he orders of other people.

Analysis Of An Occurrence At Owl Creek Bridge
An Occurrence at Owl Creek Bridge by Ambrose Bierce has the audience feeling multiple emotions
such as shocked and on the edge of their seat from start to finish. Peyton Farquhar is a plantation
owner is his mid thirties. Farquhar was up for execution by hanging from an Alabama railroad bridge
the Civil War because a Federal scout betrayed him. Bierce could mislead the readers thinking that
Peyton Farquhar, was escaping from being hung when in fact it was just is imagination. Bierce
engages a great use of characterization in how he describes the characters throughout the story and
timing details, to have the audience sitting on the edge of their seats and having a twist that no one
was expecting. An Occurrence at Owl Creek Bridge succeeds in misleading the readers by the way
Bierce represents the timing between the events that go on. In section III, there are a lot of details that
serve a purpose in having the audience believing that he is escaping. When reading The water, the
banks, the forests, the now distant bridge, fort, and men, all were commingled and blurred it allows
the authors to picture him running far away from the bridge like he was making his elaborate escape
(Bierce). It was as if he finally broke away from the soldier and that he was going to be saved.
Everything in Section III is emphasized as reality to the audience as if it is really happening, though it
is all Peyton s thoughts right before his death. Bierce characterizes of Peyton

Informative Speech On Aorta
Definition
The aorta is the largest artery of the body. Its job is to disperse blood to smaller arteries to be sure all
of the parts of the body receive an efficient supply of well oxygenated blood. This artery connects to
the aortic valve of the heart. This valve opens and closes, so blood can leave the heart. It has to close
completely and open widely for the right amount of blood to be able to flow through. If there are any
problems with it, and it can t push through blood from the aorta, a person might end up needing aortic
valve replacement surgery.
Symptoms
The symptoms of problems with the aortic valve are similar to that of a heart attack. There is chest
pain and pressure that some describe as feeling like the heart is being squeezed. The heart might also
have a sensation of fullness that seems different, and the left arm might also go numb. Some of the
other symptoms include:
Breaking out in a cold sweat
Shortness of breath
Nausea
Vomiting
Treatment ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
First, a cardiologist will determine how serious a person s condition is. Sometimes, the problem is
minor, and it can be repaired. But, if the aortic valve has completely stopped functioning, then surgery
must be done quickly to keep the person alive. This usually requires a complete replacement of the
valve with either a donated human aortic valve, a patient s own pulmonary valve, or a pig or cow heart
valve. The surgery is tedious and stressful on the body, and unfortunately, the heart valve will wear out
over time. Because of this, mechanical aortic valves are usually used on younger patients, so they don
t have to go through the painful surgery again later

Essay On Volunteerism
Before explaining the concepts of liminality and Othering and their connection to volunteerism, I will
first explain how volunteerism is scientifically defined and approached. The term volunteerism is a
coalescence from the words volunteering and tourism. Stebbins and Graham (2004) define
volunteerism as volunteering in an organized way to undertake holidays that might involve the aiding
or alleviating the material poverty of some groups in society, the restoration of certain environments
or research into aspects of society or environment (Stebbins and Graham 2004, 211). According to

The concept of liminality was first introduced in the field of anthropology by Van Gennep (1909). He
described rites of passage in which the people who are undergoing the ritual are stripped of their social
status at the beginning after which they are in a liminal period of transition until they get back their
new status at the end. After Van Gennep s work on the concept there was a long period of silence
around it until Turner (1967) drew on Van Gennep s ideas for his interpretation of liminality. He
started to apply liminality to small scale societies stating that liminal individuals or entities are neither
here nor there; they are betwixt and between the positions assigned and arrayed by law, custom,
convention, and ceremony (Turner 1967, 95). According to him, there are liminal communities within
which all community members are equal. An example of such a community is the hippies who,
according to Turner, freed themselves from the ruling social structure. He defines liminality as
following: Liminality may perhaps be regarded as the Nay to all positive structural assertions, but as
in some sense the source of them all, and, more than that, as a realm of pure possibility whence novel
configurations of ideas and relations may arise (Turner 1967: 97). This connects to the work of
Rabinow (1977) again, in which he describes how the informants of an anthropologist

Satire In The Daily Show
A short segment follows with a fake political correspondent or commentator exaggerating the issue or

Due to its blended nature as both a comedy and news show, The Daily Show has been able to ignore

wince and journalists hesitate. Many scholars and media critics debate whether the show is fake news
or reliable journalism. Although there are certainly segments that are obviously fake news, the vast
majority of The Daily Show is far from the realm of fake news, but also quite distinct from hard news

Positive Characteristics Of A Good Teacher
Being 19 and graduated from highschool I ve had my fair share of good and bad teachers. I feel like
the main 4 effective characteristics of a teacher are, a good communicator, a good listener, being
understandable, and having good sense of humor. Being a good communicator plays a huge role into
being an effective teacher. Many students will have tons of questions, and you re not able to answer
those questions in an effective way then you re setting your kid up for failure. Also, being able to
communicate doesn t just mean being able to talk with students, you have to also deal with parents and
be able to talk with on a professional level. Being able to communicate is one of the top things a
teacher should have down and ready to go once school starts. Being a good listener to me, shows that
you actually care what the student have to say. In my past I ve teachers who didn t even bother to care
what I said, so I took that as disrespect and why should I show you respect if it s not coming back the
other way? As a teacher you have to realize students care a lot about what they tell you and they trust
you that you re listening. No, you re not going to remember every little thing a kid tells you, but at that
moment they expect you just to listen and give some type of reaction or response. With being
understandable I take it from a personal experience. When I was younger my family was going
through some things and I missed a lot of school. Once I got back the teacher didn t even

Richard III King Flaws
Shakespeare s plays that deal with historical accounts of kings often show the flaws that the reigning
king had. From King John to Henry VIII, Shakespeare paints an image of a king whose flaws lead to
their eventual downfall. Shakespeare s Richard II is no different, in that context, from his other
historical plays. He highlights the flaws of the reigning king while he highlights the virtues of an
individual that is below the king in terms of status. By highlighting the flaws of the king, Shakespeare
aims to dissolve the idea of a perfect king. An image that was prevalent in that time period. The image
of a perfect king was accepted in part because of the concept of ideal kingship. A concept that
Shakespeare challenges in Richard II. What separates ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Initially, Richard was able to exert his authority over his nation. Neither Mowbray nor Bolingbroke
questioned or challenged Richard when he banished them. However, as the play progressed and
Richard s tyrannical behavior increased, he was unable to exert his authority as a king. Once Richard
stole Bolingbroke s property, the public s opinion of him changed drastically. They no longer viewed
him as a competent ruler but as a person that harshly used their power. When he needed the help and
support from his nation and troops, the troops deserted him. The troops possibly knew that Richard s
behavior along with Bolingbroke encroaching on the territory would certainly ensure defeat. If
Richard had authority over the troops, they would have been more loyal to the king for fear that he
would have brought harm to them. Bolingbroke returning to England showed that the authority that
Richard once held had been greatly diminished. Bolingbroke no longer feared any consequences that
would come from him returning. If Richard had exercised his authority properly, Bolingbroke would
have not returned and would not have deposed him. The fact that these events occurred shows that
Richard was no longer in a position of power, therefore, he could not act as the authoritative king he
should have. The loss of his authority showed that at that moment Richard was a king and at the same
time not a king (Forker

Essay On The Role Of Women In Heart Of Darkness
In the Heart of Darkness you see a lot about Africa in the 1900s through an imperialistic view
considering that s where Conrad is from. There are also a lot of behind the scenes importance nobody
really picks up on. Women in the Heart of Darkness played more of a role in the book than people
think, and it also portrays the effects on Africa and all of Europe, slowly. In the 1900s, women in
advanced areas of the worlds have always been fighting for equal rights. When you take a look at that
history, women are either protagonists or in most cases they are just being submissive to their husband
or whomever it may be. Heart of Darkness mainly focuses on Men because back then despite Queen
Victoria being the most powerful at the time, so you ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
She seemed uncanny and fateful. This represents the Moirae, the personifications of fate. The Fates
have the foresight and can see into every man s fate, so they are pretty much a big deal if you believe
in that sort of stuff. Maybe this also doesn t catch your eye whiles you read, Marlow may have had a
mentally lasting impact from it based from his initial reaction. Another woman you most definitely
could not ignore was Kurtz s African Mistress. She caught the eye of Marlow based off of the vivid
description given. He mentions that She walked with measured steps, draped in striped and fringed
clothes, treading the earth proudly, carrying her head high, her hair was in the shape of a helmet, she
had brass leggings to the knee, brass wire gauntlets, etc, etc, you get the point. This woman isn t just
Kurtz s mistress, she carries the personification of Africa herself, dark and mysterious and from
Marlow s description of her being gorgeous, embodying all the beauty, mystery and danger within
Africa. She also carries some power with her or influence over the natives around the station, and
Kurtz himself. This was probably one of the only women who showed clear influence whiles the other
women mentioned in this article were more background like the 1900s from a man s perspective
would want you to see.
At the same time it all comes back to women being more important than you would originally think.

Decision Making In The Picture Of Dorian Gray
Cause and Effect
In life, accumulation of mistakes usually leads to corruption if we do not take a certain decision to
make a sincere confession, to give them up. Most of the time, people who are concerned by this type
of behavior are petulant, and like to hear things favorable for them. Therefore, it is true that any failure
to make good choices in life might lead to disaster or might teach us meaningful lessons that we
would never forget. Therefore, thinking about mistakes reminded me of the novel The Picture of
Dorian Gray that I read three years ago. I think it is a good example to illustrate my point of view
regarding a friend who is jealous enough to drive a young inexperienced person in the wrong
direction. Therefore, according to a study in the life span development, regarding decision making, I
have read that older adolescents (as well as adults) decision making skills are far from perfect, and
having the capacity to make competent decisions does not guarantee that such decisions will be made
in everyday life, where breath of experience often comes into play . So, I come to know that anyone
can influence a person s decision at this period of life because of the inability to make rational
decisions. For that reason, youths around this age need to keep good company. However, the young
Dorian in The Picture of Dorian Gray used the appearance of a handsome, pure, innocent, and
inexperienced boy. His wish was to love Sybil, and, make her the greatest actress in

Castro Rise To Power
Many people welcomed Castro into their country with a relief that someone was finally going to save
them from their previous dictator but they were wrong. Not knowing what the result was going to be
they adored him from saving cubans from the corrupt dictator that U.S. backed up. Castro turned out
to be their most corrupt dictator they ever had. Cubans believed that Castro was going to be a lifesaver
from Batista but they were all wrong. Castro ended up being the total opposite. At first Castro did
support his people by providing some education by providing tutors and teachers to teach the people
that didn t have much to read and write. This campaign was very successful. The literacy rate was at
60% and rose to 96%. He had programs that Castro converted Cuba into a communist state which left
it with many problems.
Throughout the time when Soviet Union and United States were in an argument about having missiles
in Cuba, the people in USSR didn t know what was going on. Since their government is also
communist, the government was controlling what was showing on the news. People in Russia thought
U.S. was the bad person in this whole situation. No one knew the United States had nuclear missiles
hidden in Turkey nor in Italy. If the Soviet Union would of made an aggressive act it would of been

Eisenhower, the CIA made several attempt on assassinating Castro. The plan started in August 1960
and they didn t stop attempting until late 1963. Many challenges that historians have with situations
like these is that they couldn t find out what Castro s motives were to being so cruel and corrupt. The
difference between bias and selection is that bias is more of an opinion that someone stays with and
refuse to believe any other way. Selection are more open minded to situations and will be open to
hearing both sides of the story. Historical events are identified when it changes the way we live our

Descriptive Essay On The Middle School
The sickly sweet smell of hot summer air is so thick I can almost taste it as it enters my nose and I m
instantly transported back to a little North Carolina college town. The radio and air conditioning start
to fade away as I open the car door to the sounds of birds chirping and teenagers chatting. I couldn t
tell what is sweeter the freedom of being out of the car or the ice cream threatening to come back up. I
walk around the car to meet mom and she just gives me a look that I know means she can tell I m
nervous. It s not like the opportunity to stay on a college campus two states away from home comes
everyday. Sure I ve been on sleep away trips but sure those were maybe a week, this would be three
and those were before the awkward middle school phase set in. I was ready to try at least so I reassure
her with a smile and start walking. We stop on the steps of the dorms, I inhale sharper then a knife,
and a petite girl in a screaming neon yellow staff shirt with shiny orange hair and a pink tiara says, hi.
I mutter a hi back barely audible. I feel a nudge on my back slowly urging me forward and inside. I
first notice the neon lanyards that aren t quite yellow but not green enough to be green that are around
all the kids necks. I suddenly feel stupid, like I shouldn t be at a camp for smart kids, all because I don
t have a lanyard. The second thing I notice is that everyone is smiling, we re about to be unofficial
college students and submerged in school work for a few

indicating poor circulation. Soon later, numerous blisters had developed on the palm and back of the
hand, as well as between the fingers, which increased rapidly in size and became painfully distended
with fluid. Also, the skin of the left hand and abdomen began to redden
(erythema). For relieving pain and increasing circulation and manual flexibility to the right hand,
Daghlian s primary attending physicians at Los Alamos Hospital decided on the third day to perform a
paravertebral block on the right side and to open the blisters and remove the necrotic skin
(débridement) under general anesthesia; the wounds were then covered with

Sir Gawain And The Green Knight Archetype Analysis
There are a number of many different archetypes found in works of fiction and nonfiction that bestow
upon the hero his true role in a work of literature. In the Middle English, chivalric romance Sir
Gawain and the Green Knight, Gawain s role as the hero emboldens as the story describes more and
more archetypes of the quest. The monomyth can be described as the three step process that the hero
takes in completing the quest motif. The basic template is supported by separation, initiation, and
return: which might be named the nuclear unit of the monomyth (Campbell 28). Each of these three
categories contain other subcategories, which help understand the different archetypical situation
within the work itself. An understanding of three key archetypes the magic weapon, the boon, and the
unhealable wound reveal the essence of Gawain s role within the archetypal quest motif.
The magic weapon in Sir Gawain and the Green Knight is the the green girdle. The green girdle was
bestowed upon Gawain by the host s wife. However, as the story concludes we soon find out that this
young lady ends up being the Green Knight s wife. The green girdle symbolizes safeness or a value of
being safe. Between there meeting the young lady explains, For whatever Knight is girded with this
green lace, while he bears it knotted about him there is no man under heaven can overcome him, for
he may not be slain for any magic on earth (Weston 31). The young lady gives Gawain the green
girdle after he refuses to take the ring that is offered to him. Since Gawain fails to exchange the girdle
with Bertilak as the terms of the men s agreement dictate, it also symbolizes Gawain s desperate desire
to survive at the expense of his code of honor. Only after Gawain fails the Green Knight s test does
this meaning become clear to him.
With the power of the green girdle by his side and his mind set forth on his destiny, Gawain heads out
with the guide to find the Green Knight. About half way through the ride the guide asks Gawain
whether he would decide to slide out of his scenario with the Green Knight. As they reach the border
of the forest, the guide promises not to tell anyone if Gawain decides to give up the quest. Gawain
refuses, determined to

  • 2. Essay about Women in The Workplace Women in The Workplace Gender plays a huge role in workplace success and can be a big challenge especially if the employee is a woman in a male dominated workplace or career. No matter how hard nosed, ruthless, workaholic a woman may be, or how much personal success she achieves, there will always tend to be some type of obstacle to keep her from getting completely to the top of the corporate ladder. She must also still fight stereotypes that undermines her confidence or limits her potential. Since the early 20th century, women and minorities have sought equal opportunities in education and in the labor force with little success. These obstacles or barriers are all known as the glass ceiling. When ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Every industry has its own version of an apprenticeship and the simple way to determine the boundary of apprenticeship is to find where in a particular company or organization, the line is that must be crossed before an individual is ?in the pack? to be considered for management or leadership. According to the ?Sorcerer?s Apprentice to Through the Looking Glass,? women in every industry and profession report that sexual harassment is most common during apprenticeship. Sexual harassment is frequently defended as being just part of the normal hazing that is meted out to apprentices. It is one of the most important mechanisms that implement the glass ceiling at the level of apprenticeship. Although it may sound trivial to say that sexual harassment has a dramatically greater effect on women than men, it is important to understand that its use may be the difference in how well women perform during apprenticeship, and even whether they complete the apprenticeship at all. One effective effort that an organization can make to eliminate the glass ceiling would be for an organization to delineate its own apprenticeship, and pay particular attention to the fact that the apprentices are almost certainly underreporting the problem of sexual harassment. This does not men that sexual ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

You should always be positive no matter what situation you are in. Like Anne Frank when she was in hiding and she had looked on the brighter side of their hiding place. Someone else who looked on the brighter side of things was Winston Churchill. While the Axis powers were taking over Europe Churchill kept Great Britain hopeful and calm. Anne Frank is well known for her diary which held the information of the events that she had gone through while in hiding with her family. She had died 1 week before the camps were liberated. Her diary holds the information of each day she was in hiding. Each day had a more serious feeling, but she kept a positive attitude. When her family was upset about the chiming of the western clock, but she had gotten used to it and had accepted it and even though in her words ¨It may be damp and lopsided, but there s probably not a more comfortable hiding place in all of Amsterdam. Modern socialism originated in the late nineteenth century working class political movement. Karl Marx posited that socialism would be achieved via class struggle and a proletarian revolution which represents the transitional stage between capitalism and communism. Socialists mainly share the belief that capitalism unfairly concentrates power and wealth among a small segment of society that controls capital and creates an unequal society. All socialists advocate the creation of an egalitarian society, in which wealth and power are distributed more evenly, although there is considerable disagreement among socialists over how, and to what extent this could be achieved Some features of socialism are written below 1. • 5. Is Adam The Most To Blame For The Fall Of Humanity Analysis Why is Adam the most to blame for the fall of humanity? Adam is depicted as the main reason for the fall of humanity, because Adam had many opportunities and qualities that Eve never possessed. First, readers see Adams faults when the author writes, What weakness offered, strength might have refused,/ Being lord of all, the greater was his shame, (Lanyer 35 36). Here Adam is presented as a failure, due to his inability to remain strong like God created him to be. Weakness is not a quality that should found in God s perfect creation. Next, we also see Adam go against Gods spoken word, And from God s mouth received that strait command,/ The breach whereof he knew was present death;/ Yea, having power to rule both sea and land,/ Yet with one apple won to lose that breath, (Lanyer 43 46). Adam was the only one to hear God s one specific rule. He was aware of the repercussions, While Eve never heard the warning from God s mouth. Adam s weakness and lack of leadership proves why he is to blame for the destruction instead of Eve. 2. Why does the author chose the title Eve s Apology in Defense of Women ? The author chose the title to illustrate Eve s Apology for her actions, while implying her power towards equality for women. In the beginning, the author provides an image of female power, writing, But hear the words of thy most worthy wife,/ Who sends to thee, to beg her Savior s life, (Lanyer 7 8). Our personal identity shapes who we are or shall become, it is how a person sees them self, fitting into their surroundings. Both Owen and Alvi explore the unpredictable personal identity of a person and how it changes their lives for the worse in their poems Disabled and An Unknown Girl. The former poem, filled with pathos, demonstrates a soldier s joyful life prior to and after WWI where he suffered a devastating tragedy, losing all his limbs, emphasizing his deformed personal identity throughout the poem. This list of numerous optimistic ambitions, irrelevant to the war itself suggests that the persona was deluded by the glorified image of war. However, one intervention tested two groups against one other where one underwent progressive change and the other remained at a fixed level of resistance and despite finding a significant decrease in pain symptoms overall did not find a significant difference between the two groups (Li, et al., 2017). This suggests that it is not critical to increase difficulty during the intervention, to achieve relief from neck/shoulder pain. It was practiced for religious and cultural reasons with varying styles and imageries across cultures. This paper will examine a few tattoo designs originated from Japan and Borneo and some traditional motifs that help us recognize their cultural roots. The process of tattooing is brutal and painful; more so in the past as it involved the chiseling of skin in some cultures. Nevertheless, tattoos have received great popularity in contemporary times, especially in America. I will therefore first explore the various reasons for which people tattoo themselves referencing Michael Atkinson s book Tattooed: The Sociogenesis of a Body Art. This quote has been very inspirational to me throughout my Coast Guard career and has guided me to my definition of Leadership. A lord is given this title by inheritance or positional power granted by landowners. A Chief is chosen by the village. The person is selected to make the right decisions for the benefit of the people. It is earned. Based on my interpretation of Lao Tzu s quote, my definition of leadership is to have others follow by choice not by mere power. A person cannot rule by force given to them by rank and expect subordinates to follow. They must demonstrate leading by example and be a role model for others to follow. Leadership Influences As I reflect back, I have seen my definition in my mentors and supervisors. A short list of the mentors I revered include: CWO4 Kenneth Hawko, MSTCM Judd Reno, Commander John Humpage, CWO4 William Thomas, and BMC Mike Hunt. Giant Steppes Toward Freedom by Ancestors It is difficult for many Americans today to imagine taking everything they own and moving to a new country because of religious and political freedoms. With these freedoms taken so much for granted, we rarely think of the steps taken by our ancestors to gain that liberty. When looking at attempts in history to gain freedom, it is usual to look to the founding fathers of America and their sacrifices. However, other groups of people have strived for the same thing, one such group being the people of the divided German states shortly after the Seven Year s War. Through several generations of Germans, these people moved across country, across continent, and eventually even across the ocean to America in order to gain that much desired freedom. In about 1763, the Germans were experiencing many problems. With the seven years war just behind them, much of the land had been destroyed. Crops were trampled, and properties were decimated, making the living conditions in Germany very difficult. On top of that, the war had left the political system in a state of chaos. At that time, Germany was not together as a nation but was rather divided into forty two different states. Unified Germany as we know it today did not come about until much later, in about 1872. During this time minority religions struggled in the German states. Current reports estimate that there are 19.5 million refugees worldwide ( UNHCR 2014). Among this estimation 2.59 million, or a little over 13% of the refugees in the world are from Afghanistan ( UNHCR 2014). Afghanistan is entering into its fourth decade of war, beginning with the 1979 Afghan Soviet war to recent violence involving Al Qaida and U.S. military forces. During this time period, the U.S. has resettled thousands of refugees around the country, providing them with housing, temporary cash assistance and support. One of the major issues in resettling this specific demographic is the prevalence of mental health among Afghan refugees. Such constant states of violence and forced fleeing from homes has left Afghans with traumatic stressors, often leading to mental health issues in the future. Mental health is a huge concern among refugee and asylees population in the U.S.as many members of these populations have encountered traumatic past experience such as war violence and torture and are at a high risk in developing depression, post traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), and anxiety (Kleinman, 2004). An Occurrence at Owl Creek Bridge succeeds in misleading the readers by the way Bierce represents the timing between the events that go on. When reading The water, the banks, the forests, the now distant bridge, fort, and men, all were commingled and blurred it allows the authors to picture him running far away from the bridge like he was making his elaborate escape (Bierce). It was as if he finally broke away from the soldier and that he was going to be saved. The term volunteerism is a coalescence from the words volunteering and tourism. He described rites of passage in which the people who are undergoing the ritual are stripped of their social status at the beginning after which they are in a liminal period of transition until they get back their new status at the end. After Van Gennep s work on the concept there was a long period of silence around it until Turner (1967) drew on Van Gennep s ideas for his interpretation of liminality. He started to apply liminality to small scale societies stating that liminal individuals or entities are neither here nor there; they are betwixt and between the positions assigned and arrayed by law, custom, convention, and ceremony (Turner 1967, 95). According to him, there are liminal communities within which all community members are equal. An example of such a community is the hippies who, according to Turner, freed themselves from the ruling social structure. He defines liminality as following: Liminality may perhaps be regarded as the Nay to all positive structural assertions, but as in some sense the source of them all, and, more than that, as a realm of pure possibility whence novel configurations of ideas and relations may arise (Turner 1967: 97). Therefore, it is true that any failure to make good choices in life might lead to disaster or might teach us meaningful lessons that we would never forget. The second thing I notice is that everyone is smiling, we re about to be unofficial college students and submerged in school work for a few ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 49. Daghlian Blisters Research Paper blister had appeared on the ring finger of his right, and the nailbeds had taken on a bluish hue, indicating poor circulation. Soon later, numerous blisters had developed on the palm and back of the hand, as well as between the fingers, which increased rapidly in size and became painfully distended with fluid. Also, the skin of the left hand and abdomen began to redden (erythema). For relieving pain and increasing circulation and manual flexibility to the right hand, Daghlian s primary attending physicians at Los Alamos Hospital decided on the third day to perform a paravertebral block on the right side and to open the blisters and remove the necrotic skin (débridement) under general anesthesia; the wounds were then covered with Vaseline ... • 50. Sir Gawain And The Green Knight Archetype Analysis There are a number of many different archetypes found in works of fiction and nonfiction that bestow upon the hero his true role in a work of literature. In the Middle English, chivalric romance Sir Gawain and the Green Knight, Gawain s role as the hero emboldens as the story describes more and more archetypes of the quest. The monomyth can be described as the three step process that the hero takes in completing the quest motif. The basic template is supported by separation, initiation, and return: which might be named the nuclear unit of the monomyth (Campbell 28). Each of these three categories contain other subcategories, which help understand the different archetypical situation within the work itself. An understanding of three key archetypes the magic weapon, the boon, and the unhealable wound reveal the essence of Gawain s role within the archetypal quest motif. The magic weapon in Sir Gawain and the Green Knight is the the green girdle. The green girdle was bestowed upon Gawain by the host s wife. However, as the story concludes we soon find out that this young lady ends up being the Green Knight s wife. The green girdle symbolizes safeness or a value of being safe. Between there meeting the young lady explains, For whatever Knight is girded with this green lace, while he bears it knotted about him there is no man under heaven can overcome him, for he may not be slain for any magic on earth (Weston 31). The young lady gives Gawain the green girdle after he refuses to take the ring that is offered to him. Since Gawain fails to exchange the girdle with Bertilak as the terms of the men s agreement dictate, it also symbolizes Gawain s desperate desire to survive at the expense of his code of honor. Only after Gawain fails the Green Knight s test does this meaning become clear to him. With the power of the green girdle by his side and his mind set forth on his destiny, Gawain heads out with the guide to find the Green Knight. About half way through the ride the guide asks Gawain whether he would decide to slide out of his scenario with the Green Knight. As they reach the border of the forest, the guide promises not to tell anyone if Gawain decides to give up the quest. Gawain refuses, determined to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
