Therapeutic Benefits Of Anise And Alpapinene
Anise has become a popular remedy in North America for hundreds of years as a carminative, a
herb that relieves gas pains and bloating. Other traditional uses include colic, rheumatism, and the
familiar licorice flavored cough drops. The therapeutic power of phytochemicals of licorice,
including creosol and alpapinene, is commonly used in herbal remedies to break up congestion and
ease coughing. Anise is an expectorant and antiseptic for mucous membranes as well. This means
that licorice does double duty: it will kill bacteria while clearing the lungs of congestion. Anise and
fennel close ties both cases Anethol which have estrogenic properties. Both of these herbs have a
legendary reputation as a tonic for nursing women and wants to increase

How Does Edgar Linton Serve As A Foil To Heathcliff
In Wuthering Heights, Edgar Linton is a minor character that serves as a foil to Heathcliff, one of
the main characters. All of Edgar Linton s attributes serve to contrast and emphasize the distinctive
savagery that Heathcliff seems to possess. The contrasting characteristics and behaviors of Edgar
Linton and Heathcliff serve as a cautionary tale to the potential destructive effects lovecan have. In
the beginning of the novel, the audience is first introduced to the stark contrast between Heathcliff
and Edgar through the description of their appearances, which creates a comparison between the
light and dark attributes of their character. While Edgar is fair skinned with light hair and blue
eyes, Heathcliff is the complete opposite with

Our Time John Wideman Analysis
In the essay Our Time by John Edgar Wideman, Wideman is speaking on how he and his brother s
life differ even though they grew up together. The author utilizes many distinctive literary
techniques such as personification, breaking the narrative, point of view, and a couple examples
of diction. One of the literary methods Wideman uses is personification. My senses at times
tingles and itch (Wideman). Writers use personification to trigger the emotions of the reader. It
also makes sentences additionally fascinating. It allows the reader to connect with the author on a
more personal level. The example I utilized gives the reader a decent example of how Wideman
gave human like actions to his senses because that is how much his outlook on life... Show more

Our Time is one great example of an essay that exemplifies the use of different literary devices,
which helps us as readers connect with him as a writer even better.
John Edgar Widerman s Our Time addresses the controversial nature vs. nurture argument. This
essay about John and his brother demonstrates how nurture plays a stronger and bigger role than
nature. Trying not to be a product of your environment is so detrimental in making it in life.
There are so many people blame their upbringing for the trouble they get in. Just because your
mom or dad was not the richest people, or honest, or even if they were in and out of jail, drunks,
drug addicts or whatever. That does not mean you should follow in their footsteps. No matter what,
us as children should always strive to be better than our parents. No matter the pigmentation of your
skin there will always be stereotypes. When some people see an African Americanmale with a t
shirt, jeans, and a pair of Jordan s on they might instantly think he is some type of thug or drug
dealer. When some people see a single mother no matter African American or Caucasian with
more than four kids some may think that they the kids might not have the same fathers. The
crazy part is that the young African American male you see might be a doctor, a lawyer, or
maybe the CEO of the company you want to work for, the single mother you see might be
widowed, or anything. One goal in life should to be never to fall into the stereotype of your race,
gender, or

The Four Temperaments Of The Keirsey Sorter
Describe the four temperaments of the Keirsey Sorter
The Keirsey Temperament Sorter (KTS) is a self assessed questionnaire that is intended to help
people understand the personality of others and themselves. Embracing the ideas of ancient Greeks,
Keirsey developed the Temperament Sorter. He was intrigued by the work Kretschmer and Sheldon
in the late 1940s, which comprised of the study of the human physique and criminality (Kretschmer,
1970). Finally, Keirsey was introduced to the Myers Briggs Type Indicator(MBTI) in the late 50 s
and developed the modern temperament sorter, known at the Keirsey Temperament Sorter(Keirsey,
1994). The KTS and MBTI are closely associated as two personality questionnaires but Myers types

type indicators; Supervisors (ESTJ), Inspectors (ISTJ), Provider (ESFJ), and Protector (ISFJ). Each
subcategory that represents the Guardian temperament has a strong conviction of probability and
structure in common. They tend to feel accomplished when they get things accomplished and
meeting expectations of others.
The second temperament is the Artisan. Artisans are creative, optimistic and spontaneous. They are
adventurous and seek all kinds of stimulation. Within this temperament there are four subcategories
which are associated to the Myers Briggs type indicators; Promoter (ESTP), Crafter (ISTP),
Performer (ESFP), and Composure (ISFP). This temperament is confident and inspirational, they
love to entertain and charming.
The third temperament is the Idealist. This temperament strives in personal growth and
development. They are enthusiastic and want meaningful relationships. Within this temperament
there are four subcategories which are associated to the Myers Briggs type indicators; Teacher

Their discrimination has been a perennial issue and has only proven to be more spurious with
time. The discrimination the members of the transgender community face based on their class and
gender make them one of the most disempowered groups in Indian Society. Transgender is
generally described as a person whose gender identity, gender expression or behaviour does not
conform to their biological sex.
2.DEFINING TRANSGENDER: Transgender a person whose self identified gender does not
correspond to the gender assigned to them at birth. Their gender identity may not conform to
conventional binary notions of male and female, but rather as a third gender. The term transgender
is not indicative of sexual orientation, hormonal makeup, physical anatomy, or how one is
perceived in daily life.
The term transgender refers to signify individuals who go beyond rigid, binary gender
constructions. Such resistance is facilitated through the breaking and blurring of culturally
prevalent stereotypical gender roles. Third Genders are mostly castrated males who have a long
history that dates back to 9th Century B.C. Transgender have a recorded history of more than

in the moderns times are labelled as transgender women . India has a history of people with

Essay on Bench Press
Bench Press
For lifters looking to create the classic He Man physique, the single most important upper body
workout is the bench press. The bench press builds the upper arm, chest, and shoulders. The
muscles here have a great impact on making it look like you posses great strength, which is an
important factor for many lifters. This workout is also one of the easiest lifts, since you are lying
down on a static bench that prevents most unnecessary movement.
To perform the bench press, lie face up on the bench with your eyes directly under the weight bar.
Whether you rest your feet on the floor or on the bench makes no difference. For the traditional
workout, grab the bar with your hands ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Stand with the weight bar directly in front of your feet and get a good, steady stance. Pick the
bar up and let it hang down in front of your body with your arms fully extended. From there,
slowly bend only your elbows and swing the weight upward until it touches your chest. Lower the
weight by merely reversing the previous motion. Let the weight fall back down into its starting
position with your arms locked, where you will be ready for another rep.
Keep your back completely steady when lifting the weights up and lock your elbows after every
rep. It is common for lifters doing curls to rock backward without fully extending their arms, but
doing so risks injury and doesn t give a full bicep workout.
Squats
Squats are the single most important workout for the lower body. This workout alone will exercise
over sixty percent of your body s muscle. This is because the squat works your buttocks, thighs,
hamstrings, and more. As you can see, your legs have the highest concentration of muscle in your
body. For a well rounded routine, then, it is essential to do the squat lift.
At the squat rack, duck under the bar and straighten your back to press your shoulders against the
stationary bar. Once the bar is comfortable on your back, lift the weight off the pegs and step back
so that you have enough room to drop your body down. Open your legs

Comparing T-Mobile, Axe And Nike
Different companies have their own unique ways in advertising their products through TV
commercials, billboards, print ads and such. These marketing styles are commonly called as
propaganda where in they persuade people to think their products are better than others. Though
advertisers use unrealistic propagandaabout certain products, it has become effective in attracting
consumers to buy their products. Bandwagon is one technique used to convince people to join the
crowd as everyone else is in it. T Mobile, Axe and NIke are some companies that persuasively used

First, T Mobile released a commercial wherein they depicted a flash mob dancing in the lobby of
airport. Only few people were dancing and as it goes, the crowd started to join in. Everyone
seemed they enjoyed dancing with random people, even the adults one. Few people on the
balcony started taking pictures until everybody else has their phone out taking videos of those
people who are dancing. At the end of the commercial, people who joined the mob has also their

infamously as D Day, was the largest amphibious offensive in military history. The strategy and
planning of the battle that turned the tide of World War II was an operation that took months of
meticulous planning, worry and sacrifice. The Allies crossed the English Channel to the beaches
of Normandy, France with more than 5,000 ships, 11,000 planes, and 50,000 vehicles carrying
150,000 service men and equipment that would change the world forever. Waiting for them was
the Atlantic Wall with a German Army with more than fifty divisions at their disposal. Attempting
to breach the concrete gun emplacements, anti tank obstacles, mines, tripods and large weaponry

The Occupy Wall Street Movement
The Occupy Movement is an international activist movement that fosters social and economic
change and originated from the actions of the Occupy Wall Street movement (source #7). The
focus is on the Occupy Wall Street movement that was launched on September 17th 2011 and
was catalysed by Adbusters activist Micah White. White created a web page about the
corruption that was happening surrounding the financial crisis in the United States leading to the
most recent recession. Large corporations based in the area of Wall Street have a great deal of
wealth and in turn considerable influence on the democratic process. This particular occupy
movement is motivated by the revolutionary protests in Egypt and Tunisia. The American
protestors were convinced they could have an effect on the government through their protests.
What this means is 1 percent of the population holds 35 percent of all stock and the other 99%
marginally less (Source #3). Holding this much wealth this 1% has a great influence on
democratic decision making. The official website for the occupy Wall Street movement puts it
best saying: aims to fight back against the richest 1% of people that are writing the rules of an
unfair global economy (source #2). The procedure of the Occupy Wall Street movement is quite
simple. White outlines on her web page how she wanted 20,000 people to occupy Zuccotti Park
near Wall Street. The protestor s occupied the square, made signs and chanted messages like We are

Definition Of Professionalism
Professionalism can be defined as the skills expected from someone that was trained to perform
a certain job or duty. Personally, I agree with this simple description, but at the same time I
believe that professionalism is a much more complex characteristic. There is a difference
between being a professional and be professional. Nowadays, most of us, students, are looking
forward to obtain a degree in order to be qualified for a certain type of job. In other words, the
main goal of students is to become professionals in a particular area. Become a professional it is
not only related to college and the learning process, it is related to the development and
improvement of one s abilities. For instance, when applying the learned skills in... Show more

However, the way in that a person is able to implement those skills is what I consider
professionalism. It is not only about the abilities or knowledge that a person might have, but
rather about the behavior and the values behind those abilities. Professionalism is a
characteristic that needs to be earned, practiced and improved every day. There are many factors
that need to be taken in consideration when defining professionalism. For example, someone
might be an expert in nursing sciences, but could also steal or misuse drugs from a hospital, or
not provide an empathetic care for its patient. Being professional involves successfully executing
those skills and abilities learned, but always in an honest and acknowledgeable way.
Professionalism means to show a positive and leading conduct, avoid mistakes, solve difficulties,
be responsible and to follow the rules. Also, it is important to make a division between the
professional and the personal setting. For instance, a person shouldn t do things in order to obtain
a personal benefit, such as hiring a close member of the family if that person is not qualified for the

At Mornington, A Poem by Gwen Harwood
Memorable ideas are evident in Harwood s poetry. In her poem, At Mornington , she considers the
philosophical idea that the passing of time leads to gaining of wisdom. Harwood shows that growth
and development are a critical part of defining our individuality. She has effectively used poetic
techniques such as construction; vivid imagery and the context of her own life to explore this idea
and contributed to the textual integrity of the piece. External contextual readings and values of the
poem have illuminated the significance of the piece in asserting the value of friendship and
relationships, and presented various ideas such as the inevitability of death, the significance that
past events and memories play in shaping present perception as well as the defining of individuality
through growth and development. Together, this contributes to the memorability of the poem. At
Mornington is variant in structure; it is linear, circular and episodic, containing recurring motifs.
The lack of a rhyme scheme displays the train of thought nature of the poem, presenting the poem
as a reflective journey for the persona. Experiences with family and friends are tied with the poem,
starting with a first witnessing of the sea and then introspectively reflecting on water, memory and
death. The episodic recollection of the sea displays the personas reliance on memories to convey
changes in perspective. Thoughts of mortality are developed during a meeting among avenues of
the dead with

Analysis Of The Film Ratatouille
Another part of the film that is also very Disney and very Pixar is the visual feast that the eyes
enjoy while watching. Robertson says, Pixar has created something unique. The light. The colors.
The textures. Ratatouille is not a film with brightly colored toys, fish, bugs, or cars , which
would allow it to perhaps be the most Disney of the films on which Disney and Pixar have created
together (Robertson, 20). Yet, even without those interesting aspects, Ratatouille is very visually
appealing, like a dish one eats first with one s eyes. Robertson quotes Michael Fong the
supervising technical director at Pixar who says, We tried to make this filmlook different...One of
the big things was to break away from what standard CG [computer graphics] looks like. We got
rid of straight lines and did a lot of hand tweaking. We wanted it to feel handmade. The other part is
lighting and shading (Robertson, 21). From that special attention, like a chef gives his signature
dish, the team that collaborated to make Ratatouille created a delicious result. The parallelism
between the making of the film and the making of a wonderful dish is not all the elements that
make Ratatouille such a brilliant film. The fact that it was inspired by the food craze that was very
big around 2007 when the film was made, did not hurt. One could not turn on the television without
seeing some chef creating something wonderful and in doing so, showing viewers that they could
cook too. The interest that the

New England vs. Chesapeake
While both the people of the New England region and of the Chesapeake region descended from
the same English origin, by 1700 both regions had traveled in two diverse directions. Since both of
these groups were beset with issues that were unique to their regions and due to their exposure to
different circumstances, each was forced to rethink and reconstruct their societies. As a result, the
differences in the motivation, geography, and government in the New Englandand Chesapeake
regions caused great divergence in the development of each.
As the regions began to expand and develop, their motivations for settlement helped to mold their
societies. New England was a place where men sought refuge from religious ... Show more content

Colonists came primarily to the Chesapeake region to increase their wealth. The vast variety of
immigrants to the Chesapeake region was young men seeking economic opportunity (Doc C). The
differences in the New England and Chesapeake s primary motivations for settlement led to the
divergent societies.
While both colonies were settled in Eastern America, the regional geography had a hand in
influencing this expansion. New England was known for its harsh climate, forcing its inhabitants to
endure brutal winters, and miserably hot summers. Because many European immigrants sought
arable land, the unyielding soil of New England impeded the immigrants agriculturally and forced
them to depend on livestock. They criticized the Indians for wasting the land not using what little
arable land they had to its full potential. As a result, the New Englanders used up as much land as
they could to make sure [t]hat everyone shall have a share of the meadow or planting ground...
(Doc D). They felt it was their duty to clear woodlands and establish a settlement. Additionally, they
turned to the coastline and built harbors to fish rather than farm, unlike their Southern counterparts.
Geography had a different impact on the people of the Chesapeake region. The people of
Chesapeake capitalized on their good soil, and, unlike the New Englanders, they grew tobacco.
Tobacco proved very profitable and

the SIMD widths in

3 to 4 times in SP and DP is observed, which is well beyond the ratio of SIMD width. This is
because the performance of where clauses for WS/DMMPs schemes on KNC is sensitive to the
SIMD width as described in the section of SW26010 optimization. The wider the SIMD

It is observed that on IVB the averaged floating point performance can reach to as high as 45% of
the peak performance in both single and doubleprecision.
Using KNC as a standalone many core processor results in an averaged performance of 406.62
Gflops/s in single precision, which is above 20% of the theoretical peak.
But the averaged double precision performance reduces dramatically to 111.63 Gflops/s, which is
just over 10% of the peak performance. When KNC is used as a coprocessor, which is a much
more common case, the cost of data transfer between the main memory and the device memory
should be included.
And the results, shown as KNC+offload indicate that the performance drop due to the data
transfer is substantial; only around 6% to 8% of the peak performance is sustained in double and
single precision respectively. As a many core processor, SW26010 does not need the data transfer
between the main memory and the device memory, and the performance is satisfactory as
compared to the KNC in offload mode, especially in the single precision case.

David Jones s The Great War And Modern Memory
In his The Great War and Modern Memory, Paul Fussell quotes Theodor Ropp when he asserts
that while [t]he American Civil war was the first [war]... in which really large numbers of literate
men fought as common soldiers, by the outbreak of the First World War in 1914, it was possible
for soldiers to be not merely literate but vigorously literary (157). He continues, arguing that
because the belief in the powers of classical and English literature was still extremely strong in
England, allusions to the magna opera of the English canon appear throughout the works of Great
War poets. One such poet was David Jones, whose deeply allusive novel length poem of 1937, In
Parenthesis, incorporates elements of the English canon from its very founding in Anglo Saxon
Britain, through Malory and Shakespeare, and into the nineteenth century with Romantics like
Coleridge.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As Anna Johnson explains, Old English literature formed part of what Jones called his materia
poetica even in his early work, at a time when his knowledge of it was certainly limited (89).
Indeed, though she admits that Jones would never learn to read [Old English poetry] in its
original form, Johnson finds repeated evidence of three Old English poems throughout In
Parenthesis: The Dream of the Rood, The Battle of Maldon, and The Battle of Brunanburh (94).
Johnson s critique is thus a useful point of entry to Jones often difficult poetry: she notes, for
example, how Jones s engagement with Old English sources becomes both a part of this modern
reality, and a heroic act of remembrance in the face of an increasingly mechanized world, forgetful
of its history

Once The Wart Character Analysis
The Wart walked up to the great sword for the third time. He put out his right arm softly and drew
it out as gently from a scabbard. (198). The Wart, a nickname for soon to be King Arthur was a
modest, curious, young boy who was into adventure. Once the Wart was crowned king, he was
named King Arthur. King Arthurgrew from a timid boy to become a strong ruler with the help of
his tutor Merlyn. The theme of might and right that recurred several times was based on Arthur.
The Wart was always good hearted both young and old, but when he pulled the sword from the
stone he had to apply all his lessons and morals to his rule. T.H. White uses might and right to
prove that Arthur is exceptional for his devotion and belief in Merlyn s ideas. Instead,... Show more

Arthur is a successful king, because he worked hard to understand Merlyn s morals and apply it
to his own system of governance. In order to obtain great power like Arthur did, you need might.
Arthur utters his explanation through a few words saying, Why can t you harness Might so that
it works for right? I know it sounds nonsense, but, I mean, you can t just say there is no such
thing. The Might is there, in the bad half of people, and you can t neglect it. You can t cut it out,
but you might be able to direct it, if you see what I mean, so that it was useful instead of bad.
(241). This quote shows that T.H. White proves force to equal justice and that Arthur can make a
seperation between power and justice. Arthur is remembered for his image of a civilized society,
and not for his role on the battlefield. He notices the good and bad of common people and allows
them to equal each other out. For example, under King Arthur s rule, Knights are allowed to fight
for a reason, but not for pity fun. Arthur uses Merlyn s knowledge from the lessons and turning into
multiple creatures to maintain a just political system with a progressive civilization. All of his
encounters with the warlike ants and the wise badger taught him to find might equals right. He
grew to believe in doing what is right and that everything in his society is considered right. His

Westlake Lanes memo
MEMORANDUM TO: Shelby Givens (General Manager, Westlake Bowling Lanes here
onwards WBL ) FROM: Kumar Gaurav (Candidate # 75745133, UBC) SUBJECT:
Recommendation towards business planning for WBL DATE: 2nd September 2013 Key Issues:
Shelby Givens, G.M of WBL could not get the business on track to repay the funds the board had
loaned it 16 months before. In Jan 2010, the business profited for the 1st time in two years. But,
now she wants to decide on a future direction for the business, so that the debt payment can be
speedy and her job gets more interesting. She also deals with multiple external and internal
challenges, such as, boosting employee morale, revamping the underperforming F B section, and
growing the customer base.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
2) Invest money towards developing WBL into UBL:Seeing the current debt in the business, the
current demographic data, market trend and the required investment to develop from now, it
can only be expected to break even in the next 5 years. Investing more money whilst staying in
debt seems a risky way to take (profit 506.32% of the monthly average in 2009), with investment
of $850,000. 3) Invest money towards developing WBL into KFA:Using this business plan, even
though the investment would be late, it would take another 3.5 years for WBL to break even,
considering profit as $6100 per month (profit 359.1% of the monthly average in 2009) and an
investment of $240,000. 4) Implement team restructuring, cost cutting and marketing strategies: a.
Seeing that Gary Spalding is ageing, a part time stand in needs to be recruited and Gary s soft
and hard skills are transferred to him gradually. b. Business hours should be analysed in order to
understand the non productive hours. In these hours, 80% of the electrical equipments can be
turned OFF. These hours can be utilised in making stand in training programs to ensure the self
sustainability of WBL c. Marketing strategies should be restructured and customer capturing
schemes be initiated. WBL vouchers can be printed with Train/Bus route maps on the back side.
These pocket maps can be made available at various outlets. d. F B section can be improved by

Dr. Martin Luther King
Even though Martin Luther King Junior and Mahatma Gandhi both struggled, I think that the
charisma in them influenced social change, because of their tactics used, like non violence. Martin
Luther King Junior and Gandhi both functions as charismatic leaders and influenced others with
their fascinatingly positive attitudes. It was hard for them to get there message s and world view s
across but they remained strong and preserved through their struggles, no matter how tough things
got. Gandhi transmitted his message without resorting to violence and Martian Luther King Junior
learned from Gandhi and shows why non violence is key. Charismais the social energy that arches
between a leader and a community (Kripal 212). This definition of charisma is better for Martin
Luther King Junior. He showed so much charisma in his motivational speeches he gave to huge
crowds, some even memorable to this day. Max Weber incorporated both psychological and
sociological elements in his definition of charisma (Barnes 1). He defined charisma as a certain
quality of an individual s personality by virtue of which he is set apart from ordinary men and
treated as endowed with supernatural, superhuman, or at least specifically exceptional powers or
qualities (Barnes 1). Now I wouldn t say that either of these leaders are supernatural or superhuman,
but they do have exceptional qualities that they set the apart from the average individual. Some

American Public Policy Chapter 1
Chapter one of American Public Policy, by B. Guy Peters, gives an in depth explanation of what
American public policy is. The definition that Peters gives of Public policy is the sum of
government activities whether pursued directly or through agents, as those activities have an
influence on the lives of citizens (4). This definition of public policycan be categorized into three
levels that will make differences in citizen s lives. The first level is policy choices. This level is
when, decisions made by politicians, civil servants, or other granted authority that are directed
toward using public power to affect the lives of the citizens (4). All of these choices that are made

The first and most fundamental division of our government is federalism or the constitutional
allocation of governmental powers between the federal and state governments (24). Throughout
the years federalism has changed from what it was first described in the constitution.
Contemporary federalism is what is used in our modern government, and with the dilemmas that
we have now a more centralized government has been used, which was not planned when our
government was created. The second division is separation of powers. This division has a major
impact on public policies. The constitution distributes the powers of the federal government among
three branches, each capable of applying checks and balances to the other two (29). These three
divisions can either work together, which makes policymaking smooth and able to get things done,
or they can veto each other which makes policymaking harder and nothing gets done. The third
division is subgovernments, or can also be described as iron triangles. This division has three
actors involved the first is interest groups, the second is congressional committees or
subcommittees, and the third is the administrative agency (31 33). These actors work off each other
to help get policies implemented. These three division help compose our public policies in the
United States.
Our modern government is large and complicated. Some people do not trust our government, and

Betrayal In Swing Kids, A Film Directed By Thomas Carter
Betrayal is it right or wrong? Is it supporting your country, or turning against your friends? In
Swing Kids, a movie directed by Thomas Carter, betrayal plays a big part of what affects the
main characters and their decisions going forward. This coming of age movie takes place during
the height of Nazi Rule, where three swing kids named Peter, Arvid, and Thomas try to avoid
getting influenced by the Hitler Youth to become part of them, but as the movie continues,
Thomas and Peter end up becoming HJs, and Thomas is fully committed whereas Peter is forced
to be one everyone is trying to find out where they belong. Arvid does end up committing suicide,
and Thomas breaks away from the Swing Kids but Peter is left torn between his two friends that...

A key example is right after Peter becomes and HJ, and he sees Thomas is there as well. Thomas
says, Did you think I was going to let you have all this fun by yourself? You d have done the
same thing. We can t let them split us apart HJ by day, swing kid by night, which proves how
Thomas stays loyal to his friends in the beginning of the movie. However, because of the
behavior and personality that he has, it is hard to stick on one side for too long and he is easily
influenced and persuaded. Another scene in the movie was when Thomas and Emil fight in the
HJ school boxing ring. After Thomas says, Let s see how you do when you re not fighting a
cripple, he tries his hardest to fight for Arvid although Thomas betrayed him. With this in mind,
Thomas stands up for Arvid although he was the one without a real reason to join the HJs like
Peter. This is due to the fact of how Thomas is like a pendulum, always going back and forth
from side to side. Even though Emil does end up beating Thomas, he does get in the last words,
which are, It don t mean a thing if it ain t got no swing. In particular, this quote shows how
Thomas gets back at Emil for being a real traitor, when in fact Thomas is a traitor as well, so he
acts like a hypocrite himself for calling someone else

Kyoto Protocol Is An International Agreement
Introduction to the Kyoto Protocol
Kyoto Protocol is an international agreement which was announced in Kyoto, Japan in 1997. It is
considered as the supplement of the UNFCCC (United Nations Framework Convention on Climate
Change) and the main target for the Kyoto protocol is to reduce the emissions of anthropogenic
greenhouse gases. Nowadays, there are 192 Parties that have signed and ratified the Kyoto Protocol
and the overall emission of these countries accounts for 61% of the total greenhouse gases emission
on world. The agreement was designed first to solve the issue on greenhouse gas emission and it is
one of the most well known environmental issue in public and becomes worse and worse through
time. Therefore, reducing greenhouse gas emission today is necessary and crucial for the
sustainability of the environment. One of the most famous impact of greenhouse gas emission is
the sea level increasing. As the tremendous amount of greenhouse gas emissions in 21 century, it
leads to the global warming and thus the Earth s climate has warmed by approximately 0.6
Celsius degree over the past 100 years. Increasing of sea level makes island countries such as
Maldives face the problem that the majority of its land area might be underwater by the end of the
century( Union of Concerned Scientists,2011).
The specific goal that the developed countries have to meet is to reduce the greenhouse gas
emission by around 5% below their 1990 levels from 2008 to 2012 and the amounts may

The Socially Charged Life Of Language
In the chapter, The Socially Charged life of Language in Living Language: An Introduction to
Linguistic Anthropology, Laura Ahearn (2012) discusses language in relation to social interactions.
According to Ahearn, language is not a neutral medium for communication but rather a set of
socially embedded practices. Ahearn references Ferdinand de Saussureand his understanding of
language as a system of rules as well as Chomsky and his interest in discovering Universal
Grammar. De Saussure used langue and parole as an explanation of how language works. Langue
refers to language, as a specific set of rules while parole is the performance aspect of language in
which language functions as speech arts. Similarly to de Saussure, Chomsky believes that there is a
competence or an abstract knowledge that one has about language, and a performance , which
involves putting those rules into practice (Ahearn 2012).
Chomsky and de Saussure are interested in the abstract area of language, or the langue and the
competence . They were more interested in the system through which meaning is created rather
than how the system is used in individual instances. Ahearn criticized this way viewing language
and saw it as a narrow way of viewing language. There are various components to language and
understanding how people communicate. Context is an important component that influences how
something that is expressed is understood. Ahearn believes that the various components of language

What Is The Malfunction Essay
Thursday the 31st of August, I, Heather Scott had the pleasure and privilege to do an external
clinical rotation at the army base Fort Leonard Wood in Missouri. During orientation, we were
flattered to be told that by doing so we are providing a service for our country.
I saw four soldiers as my patients. The dentist would do a brief external and internal exam,
palpating lymph nodes and checking pocket depths. I hand scaled and used the cavitron when
working with all my patients. I polished, flossed and applied a melon flavored varnish sealant. I
disliked that the polish was not fine grit, and would have to research and provide such evidence if

My patient and I discussed ways to manage flossing with a lingual retainer as my patient stated he
dislikes flossing. He seemed very receptive to the idea of a water flosser. Another patient was very
interested that he could prevent decay from progressing into a cavity that would require a filling, if
he were to follow my instructions in how not to just stick the floss straight in between the teeth. I
showed him how the floss can hug the tooth and glide into the gums and not hurt.
This opportunity, having been given leeway to just do, allowed me to realize that I would be able
to appreciate the use of my loupes. All other times, when smothered in my personal protective
equipment, I could never imagine adding one more ounce of equipment to my person and the
inevitability of its malfunction. My loupes and their usage have always been seen only as
another hindrance in situations where I am already uncomfortable and unsure. Due to the light
calculus levels seen in the patents I was given to work with, I see the need for best conditions,
such as light and malfunction. I am eager to go back, bring and use my loupes, and wipe them
down with Sani Cloths. I see how quickly I could work with no fear of is this right? Given my
own slack to just my job, I could easily get through a patient s cleaning within an hour. I liked
how I was just able to grab whatever instrument I had and find a way to make it work. I enjoyed

Was Rockefeller A Robber Baron Or A Captain Of Industry
John D. Rockefeller: Robber Baron or Captain of Industry? John D. Rockefeller could be thought
of as both a robber baron and a captain of industry because he did many things throughout his
career that would make you believe this. In my opinion, Rockefeller was more of a captain of
industry because he did a lot of philanthropic work after his retirement from the oil business.
Although, he did use illegal and very unethical tactics in order to gain his wealth, and he
completely ran his competitors out of business. He would do anything to gain more fortune for
himself. When people think of John D. Rockefeller, only one question comes to mind. Was he a

did create an oil monopoly, which is when a single company or group owns most of a market for
a certain product they are trying to sell, or a company that completely dominates a particular
industry. There are some advantages to creating a monopoly, like the avoidance of duplicated
products being sold. They are also able to avoid competition and be more efficient with the
products they are selling because they can afford to have the latest machinery and technology to
help them. There are also some disadvantages. Consumers can be charged higher prices for lower
quality goods, and the lack of competition could also lead to lower quality goods. Some would
say that this is very greedy because monopolies are usually associated with robber barons, but I
think Rockefeller was an exception to this. As a captain of industry, Rockefeller was in no way
greedy with the money he made from his oil

I spent years struggling and fighting to get to the position where I sit now on the organizational

not always mean that you are the owner of a fancy title, know the most information or have the
ability to recite policies and procedures. The true essence of the leader is showing courage,
tenacity and patience when others lose their cool, having faith in others while taking
responsibility for your own actions and having the ability to listen while being a successful

Tikki Tgii Movie And Movie Analysis

Danger gleams like sunshine to a brave man s eyes. Rikki Tikki Tavi is a story about a fight

for his cruelty in a bungalow in India to protect the freedom of all the animals. An animated movie
about the story was filmed and a novella was written to tell the story. There were many differences
and similarities between the two stories, such as the food Rikki Tikki Taviate in the movie versus

like a bottlebrush, and his war cry as he scuttled through the long grass was Rikk tikk tikki tikki

family is Run and find out, and Rikki tikki was a true mongoose. (Kipling 144). However, in the

The final difference between the movie and the book of Rikki Tikki Tavi is that while Rikki

book reads, Then Rikki tikki went out into the garden to see what was to be seen. It was a large

concept exclusive to charter schools. There are many traditional public schools that are launching
programs to do just that. In Saratoga, California, an elementary school has made it mandatory for
parents to volunteer and attend a seven session STEP (Systemic Training for Effective Parenting)
class. This class is designed to help improve the parent s usefulness when they appear in class.
According to the principal of the McAuliffe Elementary, Michael Kalb, even single working parents
are able to find a few hours a month to help out, even if it is in the evening. Since the inception of
this program, teachers have noticed more cooperative behavior of their students and a willingness
that was not present before. These types of programs could be and should be incorporated into any
traditional public school in any part of the country and would create a synergy within the school of
parents, teachers, and students. Another concept that advocates of charter schools embrace is the
involvement of the local community in the school. Charter schools are often subsidized financially
by local businesses and organizations that in turn benefit from the sense of investment in their
community. This

Subjectivity In Doctor Moreau s The Island Of Doctor Moreau
In The Island of Doctor Moreau, one of the important characters is Moreau, a vivisectionist who has
fled the exposure of his experiments to a remote island with the aim of pursuing his focus on
research in the effort to perfect the Beast Folk . Moreau s claim is that the aim of his experiments
and interactions with the beasts is to raise them into human creatures, buthis true purpose is to
preserve the low status and nature of the beasts by denying any human attributes that are inherent in
the animals. Moreau s focus is on prohibiting the non human animals from having and
demonstrating emotions and attributes that are traditionally anthropocentric (human). Moreau does
not allow the non human animals to feel and demonstrate human emotions and symbolic attributes,
including the desire for self defense, autonomy, and feelings of shame (Wells 95 97). The objective
of Moreau seems to be to create and preserve a gap between the human beings and animal creatures.
Nevertheless, in his efforts, Moreau inadvertently reveals the significance of the nature and status
of human beings.
In his efforts to vivisect non human animals and make them rational creatures , Moreau does not
differentiate between animal and rational characteristics. The effect of Moreau s actions and
outlook in the novel is to influence the audience s recognition of subjectivity as an important factor
in differentiating between human beings and animals. In the novel, Wells promotes the notion that
while human beings are animals, human animality represents a threat to progress. Moreau believes
that human perfection is a possibility, aiming to accelerate the process of evolution artificially to
transform animals into human beings mentally, emotionally, and physically. While respecting the
aims of Moreau, the narrator in the novel, Prendick, feels pity for the consequential Beast People ,
who he views as failed experiments (Wells 121). Moreau is unable to achieve his objectives,
complaining that the instincts, desires, and cravings that inundate the animals creep back
immediately after his experiment. When Prendick returns to England, he is constantly nervous
about human beings.
The character of Edward Prendick, who is the protagonist and narrator in

My First Family Reunion
When anyone thinks of a perfect family photo, they imagine a family with fancy clothing, a bright
sunny day, green grass and faces that have been enhanced. When my family takes photos they are
not quite that picture perfect family that s advertise but a family that goes deeper than perfection. I
come from a fairly large familywith five sisters, one brother and that includes my parents four
grandchildren and one son in law. My sisters are in the middle row off to the left side, my
brothers hand is wrapped around my mother. My little sister is the one with the long black braids. I
am on the right side holding my son of five months and my husband Rudy right next to me. In the
front row is my dad with his three grandchildren.
This photo holds a special place in my heart because it was our very first family reunion.
Looking back on this day brings a tear to my eye because time is a big factor and I can tell time
has gone by since that day. I stare at this photo and can t help but feel blessed. We are all alive
and in good health. Knowing that this was the last photo we took as a family makes it so much
more meaningful to me. That day was filled with excitement and laughter. I remember this day
like it was yesterday. The date was August 8th 2015 and this photo was taken at my grandparent s
farm. It was so humid that I took about three showers. I felt sticky and fussy just like a baby.
Although my kids didn t feel the weather because they were too busy enjoying the open land

Pros And Cons Of The Gilded Age
Looking at the Bigger Picture In the late 18th to the early 19th century, some people were
desperate to make money fast. Populations were growing so rapidly, and people struggled to make
enough living for their families. In conjunction, the United States tried to transition into a more
modern and efficient world. This resulted in new ideas and inventions, in hopes to make living
easier in a changing world. This period of time was known as the Gilded Age. Nineteenth century
entrepreneurs are captains of industry based on their ability to boost the economy, the standard of
living increased, and the lasting impression they made on America.
Looking at entrepreneurs as robber barons is somewhat credible because of businessmen s
tendency to claw their way to the top, despite hurting others along the way. However, on the
opposite side of the spectrum, the jobs provided by these entrepreneurs ended up helping the
American economy. Business owners were responsible for, the American economy [to grow and
grow]. By 1914, the small nation once seen as a playground for European empires had now
surpassed them all (The Gilded Age). These owners are captains of industry because of their ability
to boost the economy and further progress America in the right direction. America started out as a
small nation, but due to mainly business, America was able to surpass even larger nations. Other
business figures, such as Thomas Alva Edison, invented the, electric light bulb... which

Rape, Violence, And Feminist Networks
There has been a lot of discussion of rape within sociologists, criminologists, and feminist networks.
In my own words, rape is someone engaging with someone else sexually without their consent.
Rape is not strictly vaginal penetration, nor an exclusive heterosexual only act. If two people are in
a relationship or married, there is still no justification to the perpetrator for their act. In the 21st
century, although rapecrimes have dropped 24.1% from 2001 to 2010, but not all rapes are
reported (Eitzen, Zinn, Smith, 2010). Curtis (1997) reported that 42% of rape victims do not
tell anyone of their assaults. There may be a number of reasons why victims don t speak out.
Victims of rape typically fear their own safety and lives if they speak out on it. Men who are
victims typically don t report rapes because it s considered demasculizing to their gender. Rape
victims are traumatized for life, they live with the burden, as their perpetrators walk away free
(Curtis, 1997). NPR s Rachel Martin interviewed author, Jon Krakauer, and they discussed
Krakauer s new book on the issue of acquaintance rape. Curtis (1997) defines acquaintance rape in
the situation that the victim knows their assaulter. With the main subject being acquaintance rape,
Krakauer s book focuses on this college town, Missoula, in Montana. Krakauer tells Martin that 230
rapes have occurred in Missoula, without prosecution (NPR, 2015). From there, Krakauer talks
about one of those cases.

equilibrium quantity increased, as shown in Figure 4 8. Ans in: The technological
improvement would reduce the cost of producing a TV screen, shifting the supply curve to the
right. The demand curve would not be affected. The result is that the equilibrium price will fall,
while the equilibrium quantity will rise. c.Draw two more diagrams to show how the change in
the market for TV screens affects the markets for DVDs and movie tickets Ans: Because the TV

Other traditional uses include colic, rheumatism, and the familiar licorice flavored cough drops. The therapeutic power of phytochemicals of licorice, including creosol and alpapinene, is commonly used in herbal remedies to break up congestion and ease coughing. Anise is an expectorant and antiseptic for mucous membranes as well. This means that licorice does double duty: it will kill bacteria while clearing the lungs of congestion. The author utilizes many distinctive literary techniques such as personification, breaking the narrative, point of view, and a couple examples of diction. One of the literary methods Wideman uses is personification. My senses at times tingles and itch (Wideman). Writers use personification to trigger the emotions of the reader. Our Time is one great example of an essay that exemplifies the use of different literary devices, which helps us as readers connect with him as a writer even better. John Edgar Widerman s Our Time addresses the controversial nature vs. nurture argument. This essay about John and his brother demonstrates how nurture plays a stronger and bigger role than nature. Trying not to be a product of your environment is so detrimental in making it in life. There are so many people blame their upbringing for the trouble they get in. Just because your mom or dad was not the richest people, or honest, or even if they were in and out of jail, drunks, drug addicts or whatever. That does not mean you should follow in their footsteps. No matter what, us as children should always strive to be better than our parents. No matter the pigmentation of your skin there will always be stereotypes. When some people see an African Americanmale with a t shirt, jeans, and a pair of Jordan s on they might instantly think he is some type of thug or drug dealer. When some people see a single mother no matter African American or Caucasian with more than four kids some may think that they the kids might not have the same fathers. The crazy part is that the young African American male you see might be a doctor, a lawyer, or maybe the CEO of the company you want to work for, the single mother you see might be widowed, or anything. White created a web page about the corruption that was happening surrounding the financial crisis in the United States leading to the most recent recession. Large corporations based in the area of Wall Street have a great deal of wealth and in turn considerable influence on the democratic process. For example, someone might be an expert in nursing sciences, but could also steal or misuse drugs from a hospital, or not provide an empathetic care for its patient. Being professional involves successfully executing those skills and abilities learned, but always in an honest and acknowledgeable way. In her poem, At Mornington , she considers the philosophical idea that the passing of time leads to gaining of wisdom. Harwood shows that growth and development are a critical part of defining our individuality. She has effectively used poetic techniques such as construction; vivid imagery and the context of her own life to explore this idea and contributed to the textual integrity of the piece. External contextual readings and values of the poem have illuminated the significance of the piece in asserting the value of friendship and relationships, and presented various ideas such as the inevitability of death, the significance that past events and memories play in shaping present perception as well as the defining of individuality through growth and development. Together, this contributes to the memorability of the poem. At Mornington is variant in structure; it is linear, circular and episodic, containing recurring motifs. The lack of a rhyme scheme displays the train of thought nature of the poem, presenting the poem as a reflective journey for the persona. Experiences with family and friends are tied with the poem, starting with a first witnessing of the sea and then introspectively reflecting on water, memory and death. The episodic recollection of the sea displays the personas reliance on memories to convey changes in perspective. Robertson says, Pixar has created something unique. The light. The colors. The textures. Ratatouille is not a film with brightly colored toys, fish, bugs, or cars , which would allow it to perhaps be the most Disney of the films on which Disney and Pixar have created together (Robertson, 20). Yet, even without those interesting aspects, Ratatouille is very visually appealing, like a dish one eats first with one s eyes. Robertson quotes Michael Fong the supervising technical director at Pixar who says, We tried to make this filmlook different...One of the big things was to break away from what standard CG [computer graphics] looks like. We got rid of straight lines and did a lot of hand tweaking. We wanted it to feel handmade. The other part is lighting and shading (Robertson, 21). From that special attention, like a chef gives his signature dish, the team that collaborated to make Ratatouille created a delicious result. The parallelism between the making of the film and the making of a wonderful dish is not all the elements that make Ratatouille such a brilliant film. The fact that it was inspired by the food craze that was very big around 2007 when the film was made, did not hurt. The differences in the New England and Chesapeake s primary motivations for settlement led to the divergent societies. While both colonies were settled in Eastern America, the regional geography had a hand in influencing this expansion. New England was known for its harsh climate, forcing its inhabitants to endure brutal winters, and miserably hot summers. Because many European immigrants sought arable land, the unyielding soil of New England impeded the immigrants agriculturally and forced them to depend on livestock. They criticized the Indians for wasting the land not using what little arable land they had to its full potential. • 17. Essay On Ivb precision. On IVB, the ratio of performance between SP to DP is around 2, which is consistent with the SIMD width ratio of these two precisions. For KNC, the SIMD widths in SP and DP are 16 and 8 respectively, but a performance gap of 3 to 4 times in SP and DP is observed, which is well beyond the ratio of SIMD width. This is because the performance of where clauses for WS/DMMPs schemes on KNC is sensitive to the SIMD width as described in the section of SW26010 optimization. The wider the SIMD vectorization is supported, the better performance efficiency can be obtained. Unlike IVB and KNC, SW26010 has the same SIMD width of 4 in both SP and DP and no auto vectorization is supported by the compiler on this platform so far. Thus, the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It is observed that on IVB the averaged floating point performance can reach to as high as 45% of the peak performance in both single and doubleprecision. Using KNC as a standalone many core processor results in an averaged performance of 406.62 Gflops/s in single precision, which is above 20% of the theoretical peak. But the averaged double precision performance reduces dramatically to 111.63 Gflops/s, which is just over 10% of the peak performance. When KNC is used as a coprocessor, which is a much more common case, the cost of data transfer between the main memory and the device memory should be included. And the results, shown as KNC+offload indicate that the performance drop due to the data transfer is substantial; only around 6% to 8% of the peak performance is sustained in double and single precision respectively. As a many core processor, SW26010 does not need the data transfer between the main memory and the device memory, and the performance is satisfactory as compared to the KNC in offload mode, especially in the single precision case. He continues, arguing that because the belief in the powers of classical and English literature was still extremely strong in England, allusions to the magna opera of the English canon appear throughout the works of Great War poets. One such poet was David Jones, whose deeply allusive novel length poem of 1937, In Parenthesis, incorporates elements of the English canon from its very founding in Anglo Saxon Britain, through Malory and Shakespeare, and into the nineteenth century with Romantics like Coleridge.... King Arthurgrew from a timid boy to become a strong ruler with the help of his tutor Merlyn. The theme of might and right that recurred several times was based on Arthur. The Might is there, in the bad half of people, and you can t neglect it. You can t cut it out, but you might be able to direct it, if you see what I mean, so that it was useful instead of bad. (241). He defined charisma as a certain quality of an individual s personality by virtue of which he is set apart from ordinary men and treated as endowed with supernatural, superhuman, or at least specifically exceptional powers or qualities (Barnes 1). The first and most fundamental division of our government is federalism or the constitutional allocation of governmental powers between the federal and state governments (24). Throughout the years federalism has changed from what it was first described in the constitution. Contemporary federalism is what is used in our modern government, and with the dilemmas that we have now a more centralized government has been used, which was not planned when our government was created. The second division is separation of powers. This division has a major impact on public policies. The constitution distributes the powers of the federal government among three branches, each capable of applying checks and balances to the other two (29). These three divisions can either work together, which makes policymaking smooth and able to get things done, or they can veto each other which makes policymaking harder and nothing gets done. The third division is subgovernments, or can also be described as iron triangles. It is considered as the supplement of the UNFCCC (United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change) and the main target for the Kyoto protocol is to reduce the emissions of anthropogenic greenhouse gases. Nowadays, there are 192 Parties that have signed and ratified the Kyoto Protocol and the overall emission of these countries accounts for 61% of the total greenhouse gases emission on world. The Socially Charged Life Of Language In the chapter, The Socially Charged life of Language in Living Language: An Introduction to Linguistic Anthropology, Laura Ahearn (2012) discusses language in relation to social interactions. According to Ahearn, language is not a neutral medium for communication but rather a set of socially embedded practices. Ahearn references Ferdinand de Saussureand his understanding of language as a system of rules as well as Chomsky and his interest in discovering Universal Grammar. De Saussure used langue and parole as an explanation of how language works. Langue refers to language, as a specific set of rules while parole is the performance aspect of language in which language functions as speech arts. Similarly to de Saussure, Chomsky believes that there is a competence or an abstract knowledge that one has about language, and a performance , which involves putting those rules into practice (Ahearn 2012). Chomsky and de Saussure are interested in the abstract area of language, or the langue and the competence . They were more interested in the system through which meaning is created rather than how the system is used in individual instances. Ahearn criticized this way viewing language and saw it as a narrow way of viewing language. There are various components to language and understanding how people communicate. Subjectivity In Doctor Moreau s The Island Of Doctor Moreau In The Island of Doctor Moreau, one of the important characters is Moreau, a vivisectionist who has fled the exposure of his experiments to a remote island with the aim of pursuing his focus on research in the effort to perfect the Beast Folk . Moreau s claim is that the aim of his experiments and interactions with the beasts is to raise them into human creatures, buthis true purpose is to preserve the low status and nature of the beasts by denying any human attributes that are inherent in the animals. Moreau s focus is on prohibiting the non human animals from having and demonstrating emotions and attributes that are traditionally anthropocentric (human). Moreau does not allow the non human animals to feel and demonstrate human emotions and symbolic attributes, including the desire for self defense, autonomy, and feelings of shame (Wells 95 97). The objective of Moreau seems to be to create and preserve a gap between the human beings and animal creatures. Nevertheless, in his efforts, Moreau inadvertently reveals the significance of the nature and status of human beings. In his efforts to vivisect non human animals and make them rational creatures , Moreau does not differentiate between animal and rational characteristics. The effect of Moreau s actions and outlook in the novel is to influence the audience s recognition of subjectivity as an important factor in differentiating between human beings and animals. In the novel, Wells promotes the notion that while human beings are animals, human animality represents a threat to progress. Moreau believes that human perfection is a possibility, aiming to accelerate the process of evolution artificially to transform animals into human beings mentally, emotionally, and physically. While respecting the aims of Moreau, the narrator in the novel, Prendick, feels pity for the consequential Beast People , who he views as failed experiments (Wells 121). I am on the right side holding my son of five months and my husband Rudy right next to me. In the front row is my dad with his three grandchildren. This photo holds a special place in my heart because it was our very first family reunion. Looking back on this day brings a tear to my eye because time is a big factor and I can tell time has gone by since that day. I stare at this photo and can t help but feel blessed. We are all alive and in good health. Knowing that this was the last photo we took as a family makes it so much more meaningful to me. That day was filled with excitement and laughter. I remember this day like it was yesterday. The date was August 8th 2015 and this photo was taken at my grandparent s farm. It was so humid that I took about three showers. I felt sticky and fussy just like a baby. Although my kids didn t feel the weather because they were too busy enjoying the open land ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 42. Pros And Cons Of The Gilded Age Looking at the Bigger Picture In the late 18th to the early 19th century, some people were desperate to make money fast. Populations were growing so rapidly, and people struggled to make enough living for their families. In conjunction, the United States tried to transition into a more modern and efficient world. This resulted in new ideas and inventions, in hopes to make living easier in a changing world. This period of time was known as the Gilded Age. Nineteenth century entrepreneurs are captains of industry based on their ability to boost the economy, the standard of living increased, and the lasting impression they made on America. Looking at entrepreneurs as robber barons is somewhat credible because of businessmen s tendency to claw their way to the top, despite hurting others along the way. However, on the opposite side of the spectrum, the jobs provided by these entrepreneurs ended up helping the American economy. Business owners were responsible for, the American economy [to grow and grow]. By 1914, the small nation once seen as a playground for European empires had now surpassed them all (The Gilded Age). These owners are captains of industry because of their ability to boost the economy and further progress America in the right direction. America started out as a small nation, but due to mainly business, America was able to surpass even larger nations. Other business figures, such as Thomas Alva Edison, invented the, electric light bulb... which ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 43. Rape, Violence, And Feminist Networks There has been a lot of discussion of rape within sociologists, criminologists, and feminist networks. In my own words, rape is someone engaging with someone else sexually without their consent. Rape is not strictly vaginal penetration, nor an exclusive heterosexual only act. If two people are in a relationship or married, there is still no justification to the perpetrator for their act. In the 21st century, although rapecrimes have dropped 24.1% from 2001 to 2010, but not all rapes are reported (Eitzen, Zinn, Smith, 2010). Curtis (1997) reported that 42% of rape victims do not tell anyone of their assaults. There may be a number of reasons why victims don t speak out. Victims of rape typically fear their own safety and lives if they speak out on it. Men who are victims typically don t report rapes because it s considered demasculizing to their gender. Rape victims are traumatized for life, they live with the burden, as their perpetrators walk away free (Curtis, 1997). NPR s Rachel Martin interviewed author, Jon Krakauer, and they discussed Krakauer s new book on the issue of acquaintance rape. Curtis (1997) defines acquaintance rape in the situation that the victim knows their assaulter. With the main subject being acquaintance rape, Krakauer s book focuses on this college town, Missoula, in Montana. Krakauer tells Martin that 230 rapes have occurred in Missoula, without prosecution (NPR, 2015). From there, Krakauer talks about one of those cases. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 44. microeconomics 3. Consider the market for minivans. Ans in: The technological improvement would reduce the cost of producing a TV screen, shifting the supply curve to the right. The demand curve would not be affected. The result is that the equilibrium price will fall, while the equilibrium quantity will rise. c.Draw two more diagrams to show how the change in the market for TV screens affects the markets for DVDs and movie tickets Ans: Because the TV and DVD are complementary goods, TV prices fall so that the increased demand for DVD.
