Bullying Is An Emotional And Physical Draining Issue
Bullying is an emotional and physical draining issue that is prominent throughout the world
today. School bullying has been identified as a major problem in many countries and almost
anyone you come across has a story they can tell about it. Bullying can create a hard lifestyle for
someone who is victimized, and can threaten a person s opportunities in life in the near future. The
social climate of a school is a replica of the world outside. All fifty states have passed school anti
bullyinglegislation, but each state addresses bullying differently. It is equally important that where
people develop a large portion of their mortality, their understanding how the world works and how
their sense of responsibility goes towards the society they live in.
The world is a dangerous place, not because of those who do evil, but because of those who look
on and do nothing. That quote stated by Albert Einstein is similar to the bullying cycle that was
created by an American nurse. There are five steps in the bullying cycle and each plays their
own specific role. The first in the bullying cycle is the bully. The bully is the main aggressor and
is typically influenced in looking for power or control over another human being. Also, the bully
is either looking for attention or possess a strong self esteem towards themselves or others. Next
in the bullying cycle is the passive defenders. Passive defenders are defenders who dislike the
bully or the actions taking place but will do nothing

My Summer At St. Louis, Missouri, Where I Interned At...
This summer I spent my summer in St. Louis, Missouri, where I interned at Epworth Children
and Family Services. Specifically it was at the Drop In Center, working with their Older Youth
Services department. Epworth is a well known facility that services a thousand different types of
clients for many different things. The slogan on all of the promotional material is To Help

W. E. B Dubois Double Consciousness Analysis
Ashley Dorsey 2/28/2017 Our Spiritual Strivings 1.What does Du Bois mean by Double
Consciousness? Double Consciousness portrays the slant that you have more than one social
character, which makes it difficult to develop a sentiment self. It is a thought that W.E.B. Du Bois
at first displayed in his book, The Souls of Dim Society, which was made in 1903. Du Bois
assumed that African Americans lived in an overall population that was burdensome and demeaned
them as reciprocals. Meanwhile, the African American culture enabled consistency and regard. This
sort of twofold perception compelled the race to view themselves from the perspective of both
social orders, making it troublesome for them to unite their African American subculture with their

Ethical Issues on the Treatment of Animals Essay
Animals have always played an essential role in many aspects of this world. Some people look
upon these roles with favoritism, some with disgust. Animals are considered different from
humans by some people because of their behavior, mannerisms or actions. Some animals are used
as food by humans and other animals, while others are trapped for their furs. Many times people
acquire animals for pets, only to neglect or mistreat them. For many years, the ethical treatment of
animals has been a very controversial topic for moral discussion, often in reference to an ethical
code or rule. In this paper, I will discuss these ethical issues identified with the treatment of animals
as well as exploring these issues from a virtual ethicist s... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
From a religious aspect, God also puts the fear of man into the animals and again animals are used
to fill the needs of men (Genesis 9:1). A virtual ethicist s perspective is fairly simple to relate to.
Our text book clarifies that virtue ethics promotes a particular kind of person a virtuous or noble
person who provides a role model for those who wishes to be moral (Mosser, 2011). Therefore,
relationship with animals, from a virtue ethicist s standpoint, would support virtuous or moral
values. As a virtuous person, a choice could be to abstain from eating animals and from wearing
fur or, perhaps, keeping a low environmental impact lifestyle. An advantage of virtue ethics is that
it brings in all the qualities of being human such as reason, responsibility and emotion to influence
a person s ethical consideration. This can be applied in situations where a person asks what sort of
person he or she should be. However, our text book clarifies that determining what the specific
virtues are, and what the appropriate balance among those virtues should be, can be difficult
(Mosser, 2011). Are people s statements about animal rights meaningful? As an example, a virtuous
person may be of the opinion that everyone should be compassionate to all creatures and not cause
suffering; thus you should not eat animals. This is an evaluation about a situation, more
specifically, a moral judgment. Emotivism, in contrast to virtue ethics, is

The Three Levels Of The Federal Court System
In the United States Government, there are three levels of the federal court system: District
courts, Courts of Appeal, and the Supreme Court. District courts were created after the Judiciary
Act of 1789, and consist of federal trial courts that do not cross state lines. They can use original
jurisdiction on some cases if they involve a federal government as a party, present a federal based
question, or involve civil suits with citizens. The United Statesattorney, who is nominated by the
President and confirmed by the Senate, is the district s chief law enforcement officer. Courts of
Appeals was established in 1789 to hear appeals from federal district courts. They are overseen
by the chief judge, who serves 7 years, and each court can range from 11 30 judges, depending
on the workload and complexity of cases. These courts appeal cases by the losing party that have
already been heard and decided in a federal district court. They have no original jurisdiction, but
instead use appellate jurisdiction over appeals from criminal cases, and from administrative
agencies. The Supreme Court reviews cases at the center of highly controversial issues that the
political process has yet to resolve successfully. These cases may include cases from the United
States Courts of Appeals, state Supreme Courts, and act as a final decision. The judges within the
Supreme Court are highly regarded, and one must meet specific requirements to become one.
To become a Supreme Court Judge, the

The Lottery Effect
Shirley Jackson foreshadows the horrific ending to the story, The Lottery, by dropping clues about
how the stones play an important part of the story. On the first page of the story, Jackson states,
Bobby Martin had already stuffed his pockets full of stones, and the other boys soon followed his
example, selecting the smoothest and roundest stones (Jackson 1). From this quote, the author tells
the reader that a young boy, Bobby Martin, had already got paraphernalia for the lottery. Bobby
crammed stones into his pockets because of a mysterious activity that would be taking place in the
near future. The author indicates that something unusual will happen in this small village s lottery.

Kant Judgement
In The Critique of Judgment by Immanuel Kant, Kant describes to readers what makes a judgment
of taste valid. To be specific, Kant says that one must be disinterested in an object in order to truly
find the object beautiful. This can be seen in his quote: One must not be in the least prepossessed in
favour of the thing, but must preserve complete indifference in this respect, in order to play the part
of judge in matters of taste (Cahn and Meskin 132). To Kant, disinterest means that the person who
is judging the object is not interested in neither the existence or the destruction of the object. To
illustrate, someone who has made a painting that they are going to sell; may find their own creation
beautiful. However, their judgement is not

How Warfare Techniques Have Changed The Construction Of A...
There are many Warfare methods created for a castle. For instance, there is the Trebuchet, there are
the battlements (Merlins and Embrasures), the catapults, and much more! I ll be telling you how
these warfare techniques have changed the construction of the castles!!
The first thing I will be telling you about is the Trebuchet, A trebuchet is a catapult like engine
which uses a swinging arm to throw a projectile at the enemy. It is used to throw rocks (Boulders),
dead animals and humans, fireballs, and much more things. Trebuchets were apart of the attacking
defending team of the castles. This means that this would cost money because the people in the
castle would need to get supplies. The reason the Trebuchets influenced castle construction is that
when the people of the castle new that the enemies would have the trebuchets they would need to
build higher walls so when things start to fly at the castle they would want to have something that
would block the flying obstacles. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
They look like mini/small walls that go up and down around all of the castle walls. The reasons
the Merlins and Embrasures are influenced construction is because when there was a war these
would act as little barriers for when archers would shoot, the defenders would duck because they
would not be hit by arrows, boulders, and more. This is why Merlin and Embrasures were
influenced for castle

Goal Vs. Team Goals For Older Athletes
It is difficult to say which goal is more important. I think it is very dependent on the age of the
athletes. I think for younger athletes who are still learning, the more important goal should be for
personal achievement in development, success, performance, and behavior. The team goals should
be acknowledged, but the goals should be within the abilities of the athletes. For older athletes in a
more professional setting, I think the overall goalfor the team should be the main focus. Again,
with personal goals not falling to the side, but with a main focus on team goals. If I had to give up
one to achieve the other, I think letting go of the team goals for athletes personal success is more
important. Again, this has to do with the team goal

Advertising Connotation In Advertising
Advertising, a process that is perceived as innocuous, is in reality a powerful means that reaches
into the consumer s mind, manipulating their notions of reality. Essentially, all advertisements are
sending through subliminal messages to promote their company s products. In order to unveil these
underlying definitions, advertisement deconstruction takes place. This highlights the subtexts that
are in play, which exhibits the power of advertising. The advertisement that is the focal point for
such a deconstruction involves high class vehicle company, Lexus. The extraction of the signifiers,
which all work as a collaborative unit, reveals the denotations, connotations as well as the
discourses and ideologies that have been formed. Not only does this demonstrate the dismantling of
the text; it uncovers the raw meaning of the advertisement, unclothing what consumers fail to see
with the naked eye.
The Lexus vehicle, as shown in the advertisement above, is the overarching signifier within the text.
It is the advertiser s main objective to sell this vehicle, hence the product is the predominant focus
that grasps the attention of the consumer. The denotation reinforces that a car is on sale, as it is in
the centre of the image. In terms of the connotations, the paint covering the Lexus implies that this
car brand is dominant and reigns at a prestigious level. A silver shade is renowned in Western
society for signifying a position of social power. Even more so, the positioning

Was Canada An Independent Country
Canada was not always an independent country but through many important historical events,
Canada was able to become the independent country that it is now. Canada had started off as one
of the many colonies of Great Britain, and slowly proved to the world that they weren t just a
colony, but much more. Overtime, canadians were gaining more and more power and were being
recognized as formidable by others due to the key events that had happened throughout history.
Some of the key events that I am going to talk about are The Battle of Vimy Ridge, The Statute of
Westminster, NATO, The Nuclear Debate, as well as NAFTA.

independence and a major turning ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Canada, Mexico and the United States were all involved in NAFTA, the North American Free Trade
Agreement. This agreement had really helped improve Canada s economy and raised the
standards of living in Canada. NAFTA had also proved itself to be a solid foundation to building
Canada s prosperity which is good for Canada s independence as well (North, 1). After the free
trade agreement, there were many positive effects in the Canadian economy. John F. Kerry, an
American politician had once said, NAFTA recognizes the reality of today s economy
globalization and technology. (John, 1) This agreement states that Canada is helping in globalizing
the economy of not only America but Canada and Mexico as well. In this case, the agreement is
improving and benefiting the Canadian economy very well which is great for Canada s
independence. It shows that Canada can make its own decisions with other countries to benefit their
own country in many ways economic wise as well as independence wise. This also shows that
although Canada and America are important trading partners, it doesn t necessarily mean that one
country is a step behind the other. It means that if they work together, they can benefit each other
and help improve one another s growth as

Equality of Life in Kurt Vonnegut s Works
Equality of life Will Rogers once said We will never have true civilization until we have learned
to recognize the rights of others. This quote is what we should strive for in reality but in Kurt
Vonnegut s Tomorrow and Tomorrow and Tomorrow , Harrison Bergeron , and All the King s
Horses this is the exactly the opposite of what occurs in his stories. In Tomorrow and Tomorrow
and Tomorrow , the earth is overcrowded, people live forever, the same politicians have been in
office forever and no one recognizes each other s rights. In Harrison Bergeronthe people of America
don t even have any rights; they are equal in all aspects of life and in All the King s Horses people
are being used as chess pieces and not as human beings.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
And George, while his intelligence was way above normal, had a little mental handicap radio in
his ear because he was too intelligent. Harrison s father was also forced to carry around a bag of
lead shot to make him not as strong as he could be, making him equal to everyone else. After
Harrison was taken away, his mother doesn t remember it and when she does subconsciously,
she cries and doesn t know why she is crying. After Harrison is taken he is forced to wear a large
pair of earphones, spectacles with thick wavy lenses which were meant to cause him to have
whanging headaches, and three hundred pounds of scrap metal. He then breaks free of his
restraints and storms a TV studio and takes it over, here he declares himself emperor. He then
declares that he needs an empress, then one of the ballerinas steps up, after removing her hideous
mask, she reveals her blinding beauty. They are both killed by the Handicapper General after they
kiss.
In Vonnegut s All the King s Horses he talks about the cold war and how men become machines,
that war is a ritual human sacrifice and that we are just pawns in the game of life (Radovic). In the
short story, Pi Ying tells Kelly that chess games, like battles, can very rarely be won without
sacrifices and that, philosophically, and that the game he is required to play is no different.
Vonnegut also discusses the true horror of war that, in order to survive, men must become like
machines, denying their humanity. In Vonnegut s

American Born Chinese Assimilation
The stories American Born Chinese by Gene Lang, Linh Lai by Rebecca Rosenblum and Tapka by
David Bezmozgis all follow the lives of immigrants and first generation born Canadians/Americans.
These stories are diverse both in the ethnicity of the characters and in their experiences. However,
they are all summative of the detriment of the immigrant experience, which is a universal struggle.
These stories, through their diversity and similarity, give the cumulative theme that assimilation
often does more harm than good, and that it widely contributes to isolation, loneliness and loss of
identity. American Born Chinese is a graphic novel about the Asian immigrant experience. It

Linh is constantly torn between Vietnamese and Canadian culture to the point where she begins
to question her identity and lose her ties to both cultures. Throughout the story, Lihn s name is
never used. She is instead referred to as either Jinny or Xing. However, neither name belongs to
a certain culture. Linh notices that All the white Jinnys have a different sound in their names
from the ihh in hers (Rosenblum 1). Xing is a name given to her by her employer to make her
sound more foreign but It s not a Vietnamese name. It s not a Canadian name. It s a no name (3).
Linh is forced into a new culture and that ultimately strips her of any identity. Linh is torn
between two cultures by Koenburg (her employer) and her uncle. Koenburg wants to preserve
her Vietnamese identity for the integrity of his restaurant. Her uncle, on the other hand wishes
for her to leave her old identity behind and assimilate to Canadian culture. This causes conflict
for Linh as she is constantly being pulled in two directions. An example of this would be when
Linh gets a new pair of shoes. Her uncle approves of the new Canadian shoes (7). However,
Koenburg disapproves stating that [they] are not Vietnamese (7). Linh is so conflicted between
the two cultures and her two identities that she ends up feeling void of any identity. This is
reflected in her life in one of the movies she watches. The film cuts off before the credits,
denying the actors and contributors of their identities much like she is being denied of hers (6).
The story ends with Linh falling off a skateboard and hitting her head. Koenburg and her friend
Jimmy are both shouting Jinny and Xing, but She has no idea who they re talking to (12). Linh

Mac Os Classic Has Its Shortcomings Essay
Since the first Macintosh operating system, System 1, back in 1984 there has been 15 major
versions issued. System 1 was the beginning point of the GUI based systems made available to the
market. No longer relying on the text command line, it relied on the user manipulation of the GUI
and mouse. However, the Mac OSClassic had its shortcomings. According to Jonathan Levin
(2012), Memory management was poor, however, and multitasking was cooperative, which by
today s standards is considered primitive. Cooperative multitasking involves process voluntarily
yielding their CPU timeslice, and works reasonably well when processes are well behaved (p.
3,4). This wasn t always the case and any process malfunction would shut down the system.
System 3, released in 1986 introduced File System Hierarchy, storing files in a tree like
directory that is currently common on all operating systems today. It also was the first system to
have Disk Cache that kept regularly used commands in the memory that sped up operations. There
were several minor versions in between System 3 until System 7. System 7 was released in 1991
and it made use of a hard drive instead of a floppy disk that was too limited in size. It also had
virtual memory that used free space on the hard drive as random access memory (RAM). Mac OS
7.6, released in 1997, was the first version to use the Mac OS instead of System in it naming
scheme. Mac OS 7.6 and Mac OS 8.0 released also in 1997, where very

Education And Recidivism Essay
Though there is evidence that educational programs are needed to help in reducing crime,
politicians and policy makers have not really understood this finding and thereby support the
programs they assume are better suited at deterring criminals. Thus, they directed funding from
educational programs to other areas, such as in security and anger management or drug treatment
(Batiuk et al 2005). Furthermore, studies have shown that those inmates that are released from
prison, about two thirds of them end up being re incarcerated within three years of their release
(Klein et al 2004). As a result, when these policy makers ignore empirical research and findings
and set up own policies, they are setting up the offenders for failure and anyone else affected by the
policies,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However most of the research did in fact have controls for some of these risk factors indicated
above, thereby reducing structural inequalities that may be there in crime occurrence (Lori 2015). If
there is no control on these risk factors, it can be said that there is a correlation but no causation
between correctional education and recidivism, which is what most policymakers argue (Lori
2015). Public opinion also has a big impact on political will and what policies will be
implemented and how. Thus, empirical research is more or less useless as it is hard to influence
public opinion just by data (Latessa 2004). This can be seen historically, asin 1994, a law was
signed in US called the Violent Crime Control and Law Enforcement Act (VCCLEA) which was
the one of the main reasons of budget cuts of towards correctional education. VCCLEA allowed
funding from the education programs to be used in other departments (Brazell 2009) and thus
slowly correctional education programs were dying

The Two Fridas
In 1889, soon after her divorce from Diego Rivera, Frida Kahlo produced the self portrait The
Two Fridas. This emotionally disturbing, surreal painting features two symmetrically composed
women seated on a sickly green bench. The holding of hands between the women emphasizes
their unison. A stormy sky of distressed grey clouds ominously consumes the background of the
portrait. Cool tones of color fill the frame to mimic the cold gazes of the women. The two Fridas,
while otherwise identical, employ diverging styles and anatomical features. A white, highly
embellished dress adorns the first Frida. Lace covers her shoulders and neck, and ruffles gather at
the bottom of the dress. Her hairstyle appears slightly more lavish than the other Frida.... Show

These two artists expose their inner turmoil in response to personal tragedy. Kahlo utilizes
symbolism, human anatomy, and composition as tools to convey her emotions; in contrast, van
Gogh utilizes texture and color as tools to communicate his temperament. Kahlo implements a
palette of cool colors such as white, grey, blue, and green to heighten the condition of solemnity
and despair. The viewer observes these hues in the cool blue grey of the clouds as well as the cool
tones used in the coloring of the garments. On the other hand, van Gogh applies warmer colors and
contrasting complementary hues. In particular, the vivid green coat of the subject juxtaposes the
blood red background directly behind the subject. The clash of these varied hues enhances the
sense of tension and anxiety of the image. The use of color between these artists differs in order to

It seems that Judith gains strength enough to deliver death blows to Holofernes by naming her lord
by his name (be naman nemnan; 81a) and identifying him as the Holy Trinity. Her incantation
momentarily transforms Holofernes s tent into a Christian sphere: the holy maiden seizes the

([thorn]one hae[eth]enan hund; 110a) for the second time, she not only makes his head roll onto

My Manfathers
People have different beliefs about who our ancestors are. In other words, how humans came
into existence on the mother Earth, and who they were. There are many different types of origin
stories, ranging from tribal specific Native American stories to the story of Adam and Eve and
beyond (Perea 18, 2014). As a Muslim, I believe all humans are the sons and daughters of Adam
and Eves. However, it is not clear if heaven that mentioned in the story is that magical place we
all think of, or was it just the mother Earth, but in much better form. I am from the Middle East,
where most of the oldest civilizations are located, and the origin of Islam, Christianity and
Judaism. Since it is the oldest known origin of humanity, the answer to where my ancestors
came from is nearly impossible to answer, because in order to find the answer you have to look
back at maybe not only 10,000 years back, but maybe millions, who knows? However, if you are
asking me about my ancestors that I have heard of, I still can not give you a clear answer due to the
fact that I come from a dry land, and as we all know water is an essential element of life, so the
way ancestors had been living in the desert is by following water, they were always moving.
Geologists now say that the desert was full of life, because there was a plenty of water, and that

In pow wow space, it is amazing to see the way that Native Americans are organizing themselves
around the drum and why. Dr. Hoehner described a pow wow as taking place within four circles
(Perea 25, 2014). Any culture has their own way of organizing themselves in a social gathering
such as singing, but I have always thought that American Indians pow wow space is built
differently to what mentioned in the book. The circle starts with fire, dancers mostly females,
drums and both singers and audience. Of course, that was not true.
The spacing topic made me think of a type of tribal singing that starting to disappear in the Arabian

Different Types Of Managed Care
In the US, there are a variety of payment options available to access health care. These options
include: Health insurance, both private and public, out of pocket and safety net options. Private
insurance includes Employer based coverage, whether the employer pays for insurance or provides
insurance, individually purchased insurance or the Market exchange based health insurance. For
private insurance an employer or individuals can purchase from a commercial vendor such as Blue
Cross. For those purchasing insurance through the Exchange, insurance plans are also purchased
and individuals whose income falls between 138% and 400% of the FPL, the federal government

These strategies include Bundled or episodic payments in which conditions are set at fixed prices
similar to DRGs, and the pay for performance model vs the fee for service model which includes
monetary incentives for achieving health outcome goals. When discussing reducing costs, the issue
of compromising quality arises and with these alternative options, quality of care is the
cornerstone and is encouraged throughout. With Bundled payments, providers will be encouraged
to work more efficiently and not grossly utilize unnecessary services since a set amount is put
aside to cover care. Pay for performance is an incentive based approach that encourages providers
to work efficiently and effectively to achieve set measures which like bundled payments will
maintain the quality of care provided.

The British Enlightenment And The American Revolution
The American Revolution was a product of the British Enlightenment as well as both American and
British history. The Enlightenment was age of innovation taking place during the 17th and 18th
centuries. During this period there were great advancements in science that pushed back religious
superstitions, as well as developments in economics and political thinking. (lecture) The British
Enlightenment specifically had a large impact on the American Revolutionwith key figures such as
John Locke. His works including, Two Treatises of Government (1690), were highly influential
upon the founding fathers of the United States. Historical events must also be understood as

In this way the colonists saw the British not holding up to their end of the social contract. Locke
and others present this idea that an agreement exists between a people and their government in
which the people permit the government to rule in return for the government guarding the people s
natural rights. Locke argued that if the government does not protect the people s rights it is their
duty to revolt. The colonists did not see the British as protecting their rights and thus used the social
contract theory as justification for the American Revolution.
Several key figures in the American Revolution are prime examples of the impact of the British
Enlightenment. These include Benjamin Franklin and Thomas Jefferson who both contributed
significantly to American Enlightenment thought. Franklin was both a great political mind and a
scientist or inventor. His inventions include the Franklin Stove and the Lightning Rod. His
political mind on the other hand was put to use for many years trying for reconciliation between
the American colonies and the British homeland. Franklin was committed to the British Empire
and admired it for most of his life. This is shown in his acceptance of the sugar acts because he
believed the British would do no harm to their colonies and would not impose on them more than
they could bear (Wood 107). He clearly did not understand the colonists views on taxation. Further

Juvenile Offenders Have A Complicated Status
In the legal world, juvenile offenders have a complicated status. Not yet quite adults, with less
understanding of laws, there is a complicated balance that must be struck between their having to
answer to their crimes and holding them accountable for their actions while still being cognizant of
the fact that they do not always possess the mental capacity to fully understand their criminal
behavior as wrong. Juvenile courts today attempt to balance the punitive and rehabilitative needs of
youths. One such way to do this is the development of juvenile diversion programs. In Trevor B.

According to the Kentucky Court of Justice article titled Court Designated Workers Make A
Difference , juvenile diversion can consist of restitution, community service, curfew, counseling,
educational seminar attendance, and drug/alcohol assessments (2014). An example of a current
jurisdiction implementing diversion for youths is the Kentucky Juvenile Court. In Kentucky, as
with other states, detained youths entering diversion are placed into several programs to get
their lives back on track. These programs stem from law related education to other programs,
such as leadership, community outreach, being all you can be, making it on your own and
creative arts (2014). The basic goal of juvenile diversion is to educate youth, instill a sense of
accountability, and lessen deterrence. If compliance is met, cases are dismissed and formal
proceedings become unnecessary (2014). Indeed, as summed up by Milton, the main objectives of
juvenile diversion are to avoid labeling, reduce unnecessary detention and incarceration, reduce
repeat offenses, provide counseling and other services, and to lower justice system costs (Milton,
2011, p. 32). According to Randall G. Shelden and Daniel Macallair s book titled Juvenile Justice
in America: Problems and Prospects , the authors claim that certain petty behaviors only serve to
stigmatize youths should be taken out of the juvenile courts entirely (Shelden Macallair, 2008, p.

S. Tchadensis Essay
One of the earliest ancestors of homo sapiens that are known of is the tchadensis which is a
member of the genus Sahelanthropus. The S. tchadensis is a primitive human that lived about 7
million to 6 million years ago, it is believed that they lived in areas that would require walking on
two feet such as grasslands, as a result the S. tchadensis had the ability to partially walk on two
feet. As time went by the S. tchadensis evolved into the tugenensis, which is a member of the genus
Orrorin. The main difference between the S. tchadensis and the O. tugenensis is that the O.
tugenensis developed two femur bones which are used for walking on two feet, the O. tugenensis

1918 Air Mail History
In 1918 the Post Office Department took over control of the United States air mail system from
the War Department. The department purchased aircraft and hired as well as trained pilots to fly
the new airmail routes across the United States. Throughout the years the air mail system faced
many difficulties. As the Post Office Department found ways to deal with these difficulties they
slowly began improving the infrastructure of the air mail system. The money that the government

There was no high ground worth mentioning, and planters had to live on their plantations. The
waters of the Nile were warm; the Mississippi brought cold northern floods that sometimes stood
for months. In 1735, New Orleans went under. The intervals were generally long enough to
allow the people to build up a false sense of security. In response to the major floods, they
extended and raised the levees. A levee appeared across the river from New Orleans, and by
1812 the west bank was leveed to the vicinity of Old River, the east bank was leveed as far as
Baton Rouge. Neither of the levees was continuous but both of them protected plantation land. By

The militant philosophy originated from the rising modernity in northern Baptist and Presbyterian
congregations, a growing fear of evolution being taught in schools, and the Scopes trial results. Fear
of these movements as well as the apocalyptic scenarios concocted after World War I, and the rise of
communism meant the second coming of Christ and the tribulation were right around the corner. In
the growing world of uncertainty, the fundamentalist movement sprung up out of a necessity for the
defense of faith. Fundamentalists originated from the fear of the unknown and speculation of what
could be. Perhaps one of the greatest ties between early fundamentalism and Union University stem
from fundamentalism s roots. At the beginning Northern Baptists and Presbyterians battled with
Southern conservative Baptists. In 1919, fundamentalists gathered to discuss what to do with the
rise of modernity in congregations and the danger of evolution in schools. Another rift among
fundamentalists was also occurring in the Northern Baptist Convention, led by the liberal Baptist
Harry Fosdick, who in opposition to the rise of fundamentalism in Southern congregations, wrote

movement originates from fear, and the possibility that the identity of the Christian faith may

In some cases, the blades may have to be coated with a thermal barrier coating

The Fifth Season Sparknotes
Okay, so this is how this is going to work... The deep book review will be split into different
sections, one where I will dump a bunch of information about the storyline on the reader, another
where I will rant about what makes this book deep but not good, and, finally, another about the
author. The footnotes will be my way of interjecting Laszlo esque commentary on what would
normally be a more formal piece of writing without drastically altering the formality of the review.
Throughout the book, The Fifth Season changes from Syenite to Damaya to, finally, a character
referred to as you (as you might expect, all chapters written from you s perspective are written in
second person). As the book moves on, switching from character to character, similarities between

The Idea of Terrorism
The world changed on September 11, 2001 when hijackers from a group called Al Qaeda sent
planes into New York City s Twin Towers and the Pentagon in Washington DC. In total, 3,000
people died, the majority citizens and not all from the United States, but at least 90 countries.
Responding to this act was a global War on Terrorism, which resulted in an invasion of Afghanistan,
the U.S. Patriot Act, and several civil and social changes in American society. More than anything
else, though, U.S. security policy came under intense scrutiny and a new Cabinet Level Department
was formed, Homeland Security. Congress also reacted by authorizing the use of military force
against any individual, group, or State that participated or had any relation to the 9/11 attacks. The
changes made to the American security system because of 9/11 were vast, and affected citizens at
home and abroad, with certain groups fearful that civil liberties were now less important than
security. In fact, the Patriot Act provides governmental agencies with extraordinary legal means to
conduct surveillance from the Internet, emails, telephones, and other communication devices; to
search and gather data, perform analysis, and act without a Court warrant if there is a threat present.
The technology known as carnivore is an example of this. Carnivore sifts through millions of emails

Following the Nicene Council, the debate continued, including
discussions about the Holy Spirit. Eventually, Theodosius (the new Roman emperor), called a

full divinity of the Holy Spirit, teaching that the Father is God, the Son is God, and the Holy
Spirit is God, yet there is only one God. The Nicene Creed (as translated by the International

We believe in our God the Father, the Almighty, creator of heaven and earth, and of all that is, seen

We believe in one Lord, Jesus Christ, the only Son of God, eternally begotten of the Father, God

The Failure Of Mind Control In 1984 By George Orwell
One of George Orwell s themes in 1984 is that language is important to thought therefore capable
of mind control. It is language that helps people communicate with each other. Once language
can be centralized in a political agency, then the thoughts of citizens can be controlled. It will be
impossible in this society to think any disobedient or rebellious thoughts. Why? Mainly because
there are no words with which to think them. Mr. Orwell lived during the time that totalitarian
societies were springing up in the world. Mr. Orwell thought these countries wanted to turn their
citizens into machines. Happiness becoming a synthetic creation from without rather than from
within. Happiness would be void of natural passions and personal inclinations. The reality of life
in a totalitarian society. The Party introduces Newspeak to replace English. The Party is
constantly refining and perfecting Newspeak. The Party s goal is that no one will be able to
question the absolute power of the Party. In this totalitarian society an individual only has power
if he ceases to be an individual. If an individual can subject himself completely, if he can escape
from his identity, if he can let himself be so much into the Party that he is the Party, then he is
all powerful and immortal. The power over people, over the body and especially over the mind is
what the Party is seeking. The Party seeks power entirely for its own sake. We are not interested in

The Old Testament Essay
Introduction
The Old Testament can be very hard for many people to look to for guidance. The difficulty often
comes because the questions they have in today s society may not relate to the Old Testament.
Much biblical scholarship is narrowly historical critical and does not seek to draw out the ethical
theological dimensions of the text. (297) Pastors have the task of relating the Old Testament to today
s problems and it can be quite a challenge. Addressing moral issues is a difficult issue that pastors
are faced with when addressing them through the Old Testament. This article addresses many
factors that contribute to pastors not effectively addressing morals because of the complexity of
relating them to Old Testament context.
Article Summary
Terence E. Fretheim speaks from a perspective that shows the challenges that pastors face in regard
to morality in today s society and how it compares to the Old Testament. He points out that pastors
often overlook these aspects:
1. Our world raises many ethical issues that the Bible does not reference. 2. Scripture works with
many perspectives that have little if any pertinence to today s world, from the treatment of women
and slaves to serve punishments. 3. The Old Testament especially is thought to be problematic
ethically and hence is less helpful than the New Testament, through New Testament violence finally
exceeds that of the Old Testament. 4. Questions arise about the authority and consequent use of the
Bible.

The cut she had from the silverware symbolizes the hurt on the inside. The pain from inside was
symbolizing the pain on the inside. Her husband s inconsiderate feelings for alternate races

very effectively by comparing the pain on the outside to the pain on the inside. Wolff s decision
to put in this description of dirty water was not because Wolff hates washing dishes. Wolff put
that in there to show a deeper meaning to it. Wolff is trying to show the husband s views on the
topic being discussed indirectly. Wolff shows a deeper meaning when the husband is continuing

Essay On Indonesie Analysis
LITERATURE REVIEW
Theories included in the research were theory of representation, Barthes semiotics, BГјhler Organon
model, theory of advertisement discourse, and critical discourse analysis theory. Theory of
representation is crucial here because the fundamental aim of the research is to look at how
Indonesia is represented in the tourism advertisement to be further analyzed and criticized.
Representation is one of central practices in a process named by du Gay, Hall et al. as the circuit
of culture . Representation is furthermore defined by Hall as an essential part of the process by
which meaning is produced and exchanged between members of a culture (Hall, 1997). Hall also
defined it as the use of language to deliver or communicate something with meanings to other
people. Similar to Hall, Gilles and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
According to Fairclough (1995), critical discourse analysis is discourse analysis which aims to
systematically observe causality between discourse practice and wider socio cultural structure.
Besides, it also aims to seek how the relation is influenced and how the ideology is formed by
power in society (p.132). In short, a result of a critical discourse analysis exposes an implicit
message or meaning beneath a discourse. In this research, the implicit meaning is how Indonesia is
represented in a tourism advertisement. In critical discourse analysis, there are theorists who have
focused and systematic frameworks on genre and socio semantic representation within a discourse,
but there are also those who combine various kinds of research methodologies (Blommaert
Bulcaen, 2008). In this research, the method utilized is communicative event analysis, which is
part of Norman Fairclough s critical discourse analysis framework. Communicative event analysis
observes a discourse as a social practice which is composed of three dimensions: text, discourse
practice, and social

Barbie Effect On America Research Paper

Practical Writing
5 May 2016
Barbie s Effect on America Most American girls can remember growing up with the blonde,
plastic, fashionable doll called Barbie. The first item to pop into people s heads, as they think of
the perfect Christmas or Hanukkah present is the Barbie doll. When it comes to racial acceptance
and body image, the doll is misleading. The Barbie doll taught children that blonde and white was
the ultimate key to beauty or fashion. This Barbie doll set unrealistic standards for girls of all
ages; with her curvy frame, perfect boyfriend, and her extravagant belongings she led girls to
believe that self image is more important than frivolous objects.
This skinny, curvy, white doll fabricated the futures... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In this study, girls ages 4 to 7 were randomly assigned to play with one of three dolls: a fashion
Barbie; a career Barbie with a doctor s coat and stethoscope; or a Mrs. Potato Head. The girls were
asked if they could do any of 10 occupations when they grew up, after given time to play with
each toy. Girls who played with barbie thought they could do fewer jobs while girls who played
with Mrs. Potato Head reported almost the same number of possible careers for themselves and

How The Segmentation Task Would Be Implemented
One of the most important steps towards the completion of this project was the formulation of how
the segmentation task would be implemented. The segmentation strategy should be designed in
such a way that it can efficiently deal with the main challenges of the dataset.
Firstly, the method should be able to ignore background noise, as well as objects that are not
LDL particles. Additionally, it should be able to deal with adjacent and overlapping particles.
A widely used strategy[26, 4] is to face this problem as a binary classification task, with the goal of
classifying each pixel that lies on the surface of the object of interest as 1 and every other pixel as
0. However, this strategy would lead to loss of spatial information about the ... Show more content

Usually, more training data lead to a more robust network that can generalise better and as a result,
make more accurate predictions. However, in some cases, it is difficult to acquire large amounts of
training data, because their collection or production is either very time consuming or very
expensive. In the case of the micrographs this project is dealing with, the manual annotation
process is very time consuming (hence the need for the automation of this process) and this is why
our dataset is limited to 41 images.
However, in order to teach the neural network the desired invariance, a data augmentation strategy
was followed. More specifically, left right and top down mirroring was applied to each image,
which resulted in tripling the size of the original dataset. The same technique was also used on the
corresponding manually created segmentation masks, resulting in a labeled dataset consisting of
123 examples. This augmentation strategy has been proved to boost the performance of
convolutional networks in similar tasks [5]. Further augmentation of the dataset was initially
considered by rotating the images by 90, 180 and 270 degrees, however, training the neural
network on such a large dataset, turned out to be very computationally expensive, leading to very
long training time and as a result this idea was abandoned.
Additionally, to ensure that the memory requirements of the network during

Notes And Writing Of Briefing Notes
Experience in the development and writing of briefing notes, reports, presentations or
correspondence (memos, QP cards, etc.)
Through my present and previous positions with the federal government, I accumulate many years
of experience in developing and writing official and internal documents for different purposes such
as correspondences, reports or memorandum. To illustrate this experience, I am providing the
following example:
In my previous position as Senior Advisor with the Commissioner of Lobbying, I wrote briefing
notes and reports on a frequent basis. An important element of my job was to provide
documentation to the director and senior management about outreach activities I was delivering to
stakeholders. The purpose of writing briefing notes was to summarize the objectives of every
outreach sessions and to inform them about specific follow ups to stakeholders requests. The
first step was to compile the results of the research I have initiated on the stakeholders and their
business area, by adding short paragraphs to keep a concise writing style. After finishing the
writing part, I reviewed the document to ensure that all aspects are covered and that every key
point previously discussed were detailed. Finally, I made sure to avoid grammatically or
vocabulary errors in the finalized document and also to avoid the use of ambiguous words or
expression that might lead to confusion or misinterpretation. To be more efficient for such tasks and

How Did Napoleon Modernize Ground Warfare
Student Name: Brandon Goldstein Person of Eminence: Napoleon Bonaparte 1. What is your
research question for this project? How did Napoleon modernize ground warfare? 2. Describe
your research to date on your topic. This topic can only be analyzed by examining Napoleon in
action, so I assessed reports and depictions of Napoleon s actions on the battlefield from battles
such as Toulon, The Battle of the Pyramids, Leipzig, Borodino, and Austerlitz. I also examined
comparisons of his tactics to previous tactics to deduce why Napoleon was so successful on the
battlefield, despite sometimes being at a numerical disadvantage. Finally, I studied a biography,
Napoleon in Egypt, to take an even closer look into his thinking and tactical genius. 3. What were
your findings?... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Yes, I am including generals such as Alexander the Great, the Duke of Wellington, Ulysses S.
Grant, Dwight D. Eisenhower, George S. Patton, and Erwin Rommel. He had a theory that wars
could be won in one battle with a decisive blow and, of course, the complete annihilation of the
enemy army. His army did not have supply lines; instead they lived off the land so that they
could maximize their pace. Napoleon s cavalry was used to scout ahead of the real army so that
Napoleon could know exactly where his enemy was. Napoleon also divided his army into corps
that were never more than 24 hours apart so that they could assist each other if necessary. Napoleon
devised tactics so that he could win any battle, despite his numerical disadvantage. Finally,
Napoleon did not command everything on the battlefield; he delegated to competent subordinates
who were able to make their own decisions, which helped with his army s

Depreciation
Rupee Depreciation: Probable Causes and Outlook
The Indian Rupee has depreciated significantly against the US Dollar marking a new risk for
Indian economy. Till the beginning of the financial year (Apr 11 Mar 12) very few had expected
Rupee to depreciate with most hinting towards either appreciation or status quo in the rupee
levels. Those few who had even anticipated may not have imagined the scale of depreciation with
rupee touching a new low of around Rs 54 to the US Dollar. What is even more interesting to note
is that when other countries are trying to play currency wars and trying to keep their currencies
devalued, India is trying to prevent depreciation of the currency. (Read our previous report for a
review of the situation ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Fiscal Deficit: Fiscal deficits play a role especially during currency crisis. If a country follows a
fixed exchange rates and also runs a large fiscal deficit it could lead to speculative attacks on the
currency. Higher deficits imply government might resort to using forex reserves to finance its
deficit. This leads to lowering of the reserves and in case there is a speculation on the currency,
the government may not have adequate reserves to protect the fixed value of the currency. This
pushes the government to devalue the currency. So, though fiscal deficits do not have a direct
bearing on foreign exchange markets, they play a role in case there is a crisis. Global economic
conditions: Barring domestic conditions, global conditions impact the currency movement as well.
In times of high uncertainty as seen lately, most currencies usually depreciate against US Dollar as
it is seen as a safe haven currency. Hence even over a longer term, multiple factors determine an
exchange rate with each one playing an important role over time.
II. Rupee Movement since 1991
If we look at India s Balance of Payments since 1970 71, we see that external account mostly
balances in 1970s. Infact in second half of 1970s there is a current account surplus. This was a
period of import substitution strategy and India followed a closed economy model.

Interoperability can be linked to early civilization times when people would network, exchange
goods and travel by long distances. There are two definitions that explain the functioning of
interoperability. The first is having the ability of two or more systems to exchange information and
the ability of those systems to use the information that has been exchanged (Fridsma, 2013).
Interoperability has three core fundamentals: Foundational, structural, and semantic.
The foundational concept allows the data exchange from one information technology system to be
received by another, but does not require the ability for the receiving end to interpret the data
(Levy, 2014). An example of this would be hospital environmental services being able to use the
same program to see what patient rooms need cleaning, that the physicians, nurses and other core
staff, but just the basics. They would not have access to patient s medical records, treatment plans
and E Mar orders; however they may be able to see if the patient has MRSA or contact precautions.
Another example of the foundational concept of interoperability is the lab sending test results in
Microsoft Word, the nurse would have to download the attachment print it and read the document
and interpret it to other health team members. Once it s analyzed by all parties, if feedback is
required the

  • 2. Bullying Is An Emotional And Physical Draining Issue Bullying is an emotional and physical draining issue that is prominent throughout the world today. School bullying has been identified as a major problem in many countries and almost anyone you come across has a story they can tell about it. Bullying can create a hard lifestyle for someone who is victimized, and can threaten a person s opportunities in life in the near future. The social climate of a school is a replica of the world outside. All fifty states have passed school anti bullyinglegislation, but each state addresses bullying differently. It is equally important that where people develop a large portion of their mortality, their understanding how the world works and how their sense of responsibility goes towards the society they live in. The world is a dangerous place, not because of those who do evil, but because of those who look on and do nothing. That quote stated by Albert Einstein is similar to the bullying cycle that was created by an American nurse. There are five steps in the bullying cycle and each plays their own specific role. The first in the bullying cycle is the bully. The bully is the main aggressor and is typically influenced in looking for power or control over another human being. Also, the bully is either looking for attention or possess a strong self esteem towards themselves or others. Next in the bullying cycle is the passive defenders. Passive defenders are defenders who dislike the bully or the actions taking place but will do nothing ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 5. Ethical Issues on the Treatment of Animals Essay Animals have always played an essential role in many aspects of this world. Some people look upon these roles with favoritism, some with disgust. Animals are considered different from humans by some people because of their behavior, mannerisms or actions. Some animals are used as food by humans and other animals, while others are trapped for their furs. Many times people acquire animals for pets, only to neglect or mistreat them. For many years, the ethical treatment of animals has been a very controversial topic for moral discussion, often in reference to an ethical code or rule. In this paper, I will discuss these ethical issues identified with the treatment of animals as well as exploring these issues from a virtual ethicist s... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... From a religious aspect, God also puts the fear of man into the animals and again animals are used to fill the needs of men (Genesis 9:1). A virtual ethicist s perspective is fairly simple to relate to. Our text book clarifies that virtue ethics promotes a particular kind of person a virtuous or noble person who provides a role model for those who wishes to be moral (Mosser, 2011). Therefore, relationship with animals, from a virtue ethicist s standpoint, would support virtuous or moral values. As a virtuous person, a choice could be to abstain from eating animals and from wearing fur or, perhaps, keeping a low environmental impact lifestyle. An advantage of virtue ethics is that it brings in all the qualities of being human such as reason, responsibility and emotion to influence a person s ethical consideration. This can be applied in situations where a person asks what sort of person he or she should be. However, our text book clarifies that determining what the specific virtues are, and what the appropriate balance among those virtues should be, can be difficult (Mosser, 2011). Are people s statements about animal rights meaningful? As an example, a virtuous person may be of the opinion that everyone should be compassionate to all creatures and not cause suffering; thus you should not eat animals. This is an evaluation about a situation, more specifically, a moral judgment. Emotivism, in contrast to virtue ethics, is ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. The Three Levels Of The Federal Court System In the United States Government, there are three levels of the federal court system: District courts, Courts of Appeal, and the Supreme Court. District courts were created after the Judiciary Act of 1789, and consist of federal trial courts that do not cross state lines. They can use original jurisdiction on some cases if they involve a federal government as a party, present a federal based question, or involve civil suits with citizens. The United Statesattorney, who is nominated by the President and confirmed by the Senate, is the district s chief law enforcement officer. Courts of Appeals was established in 1789 to hear appeals from federal district courts. They are overseen by the chief judge, who serves 7 years, and each court can range from 11 30 judges, depending on the workload and complexity of cases. These courts appeal cases by the losing party that have already been heard and decided in a federal district court. They have no original jurisdiction, but instead use appellate jurisdiction over appeals from criminal cases, and from administrative agencies. The Supreme Court reviews cases at the center of highly controversial issues that the political process has yet to resolve successfully. These cases may include cases from the United States Courts of Appeals, state Supreme Courts, and act as a final decision. The judges within the Supreme Court are highly regarded, and one must meet specific requirements to become one. To become a Supreme Court Judge, the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

For instance, there is the Trebuchet, there are the battlements (Merlins and Embrasures), the catapults, and much more! I ll be telling you how these warfare techniques have changed the construction of the castles!! The first thing I will be telling you about is the Trebuchet, A trebuchet is a catapult like engine which uses a swinging arm to throw a projectile at the enemy. It is used to throw rocks (Boulders), dead animals and humans, fireballs, and much more things. Trebuchets were apart of the attacking defending team of the castles. This means that this would cost money because the people in the castle would need to get supplies. The reason the Trebuchets influenced castle construction is that when the people of the castle new that the enemies would have the trebuchets they would need to build higher walls so when things start to fly at the castle they would want to have something that would block the flying obstacles. ... I think for younger athletes who are still learning, the more important goal should be for personal achievement in development, success, performance, and behavior. The team goals should be acknowledged, but the goals should be within the abilities of the athletes. For older athletes in a more professional setting, I think the overall goalfor the team should be the main focus. Advertising Connotation In Advertising Advertising, a process that is perceived as innocuous, is in reality a powerful means that reaches into the consumer s mind, manipulating their notions of reality. Essentially, all advertisements are sending through subliminal messages to promote their company s products. In order to unveil these underlying definitions, advertisement deconstruction takes place. This highlights the subtexts that are in play, which exhibits the power of advertising. The advertisement that is the focal point for such a deconstruction involves high class vehicle company, Lexus. The extraction of the signifiers, which all work as a collaborative unit, reveals the denotations, connotations as well as the discourses and ideologies that have been formed. Not only does this demonstrate the dismantling of the text; it uncovers the raw meaning of the advertisement, unclothing what consumers fail to see with the naked eye. The Lexus vehicle, as shown in the advertisement above, is the overarching signifier within the text. It is the advertiser s main objective to sell this vehicle, hence the product is the predominant focus that grasps the attention of the consumer. The denotation reinforces that a car is on sale, as it is in the centre of the image. • 17. Mac Os Classic Has Its Shortcomings Essay Since the first Macintosh operating system, System 1, back in 1984 there has been 15 major versions issued. System 1 was the beginning point of the GUI based systems made available to the market. No longer relying on the text command line, it relied on the user manipulation of the GUI and mouse. However, the Mac OSClassic had its shortcomings. According to Jonathan Levin (2012), Memory management was poor, however, and multitasking was cooperative, which by today s standards is considered primitive. Cooperative multitasking involves process voluntarily yielding their CPU timeslice, and works reasonably well when processes are well behaved (p. 3,4). This wasn t always the case and any process malfunction would shut down the system. System 3, released in 1986 introduced File System Hierarchy, storing files in a tree like directory that is currently common on all operating systems today. It also was the first system to have Disk Cache that kept regularly used commands in the memory that sped up operations. There were several minor versions in between System 3 until System 7. System 7 was released in 1991 and it made use of a hard drive instead of a floppy disk that was too limited in size. It also had virtual memory that used free space on the hard drive as random access memory (RAM). Furthermore, studies have shown that those inmates that are released from prison, about two thirds of them end up being re incarcerated within three years of their release (Klein et al 2004). Public opinion also has a big impact on political will and what policies will be implemented and how. Thus, empirical research is more or less useless as it is hard to influence public opinion just by data (Latessa 2004). This can be seen historically, asin 1994, a law was signed in US called the Violent Crime Control and Law Enforcement Act (VCCLEA) which was the one of the main reasons of budget cuts of towards correctional education. Since it is the oldest known origin of humanity, the answer to where my ancestors came from is nearly impossible to answer, because in order to find the answer you have to look back at maybe not only 10,000 years back, but maybe millions, who knows? However, if you are asking me about my ancestors that I have heard of, I still can not give you a clear answer due to the fact that I come from a dry land, and as we all know water is an essential element of life, so the way ancestors had been living in the desert is by following water, they were always moving. Geologists now say that the desert was full of life, because there was a plenty of water, and that led to the existence of many old civilizations. However, when the land starts drying out, people start immigrating to other places, like Europe, Africa, the rest of Asia and the Americas. In pow wow space, it is amazing to see the way that Native Americans are organizing themselves around the drum and why. Dr. Hoehner described a pow wow as taking place within four circles (Perea 25, 2014). Any culture has their own way of organizing themselves in a social gathering such as singing, but I have always thought that American Indians pow wow space is built differently to what mentioned in the book. Locke and others present this idea that an agreement exists between a people and their government in which the people permit the government to rule in return for the government guarding the people s natural rights. Locke argued that if the government does not protect the people s rights it is their duty to revolt. The colonists did not see the British as protecting their rights and thus used the social contract theory as justification for the American Revolution. Several key figures in the American Revolution are prime examples of the impact of the British Enlightenment. These include Benjamin Franklin and Thomas Jefferson who both contributed significantly to American Enlightenment thought. Franklin was both a great political mind and a scientist or inventor. His inventions include the Franklin Stove and the Lightning Rod. His political mind on the other hand was put to use for many years trying for reconciliation between the American colonies and the British homeland. Franklin was committed to the British Empire and admired it for most of his life. This is shown in his acceptance of the sugar acts because he believed the British would do no harm to their colonies and would not impose on them more than they could bear (Wood 107). Not yet quite adults, with less understanding of laws, there is a complicated balance that must be struck between their having to answer to their crimes and holding them accountable for their actions while still being cognizant of the fact that they do not always possess the mental capacity to fully understand their criminal behavior as wrong. Juvenile courts today attempt to balance the punitive and rehabilitative needs of youths. One such way to do this is the development of juvenile diversion programs. In Trevor B. According to the Kentucky Court of Justice article titled Court Designated Workers Make A Difference , juvenile diversion can consist of restitution, community service, curfew, counseling, educational seminar attendance, and drug/alcohol assessments (2014). An example of a current jurisdiction implementing diversion for youths is the Kentucky Juvenile Court. In Kentucky, as with other states, detained youths entering diversion are placed into several programs to get their lives back on track. These programs stem from law related education to other programs, such as leadership, community outreach, being all you can be, making it on your own and creative arts (2014). The basic goal of juvenile diversion is to educate youth, instill a sense of accountability, and lessen deterrence. If compliance is met, cases are dismissed and formal proceedings become unnecessary (2014). Indeed, as summed up by Milton, the main objectives of juvenile diversion are to avoid labeling, reduce unnecessary detention and incarceration, reduce repeat offenses, provide counseling and other services, and to lower justice system costs (Milton, 2011, p. 32). • 44. Essay On Indonesie Analysis LITERATURE REVIEW Theories included in the research were theory of representation, Barthes semiotics, BГјhler Organon model, theory of advertisement discourse, and critical discourse analysis theory. Theory of representation is crucial here because the fundamental aim of the research is to look at how Indonesia is represented in the tourism advertisement to be further analyzed and criticized. Representation is one of central practices in a process named by du Gay, Hall et al. as the circuit of culture . Representation is furthermore defined by Hall as an essential part of the process by which meaning is produced and exchanged between members of a culture (Hall, 1997). Hall also defined it as the use of language to deliver or communicate something with meanings to other people. Similar to Hall, Gilles and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... According to Fairclough (1995), critical discourse analysis is discourse analysis which aims to systematically observe causality between discourse practice and wider socio cultural structure. Besides, it also aims to seek how the relation is influenced and how the ideology is formed by power in society (p.132). In short, a result of a critical discourse analysis exposes an implicit message or meaning beneath a discourse. In this research, the implicit meaning is how Indonesia is represented in a tourism advertisement. In critical discourse analysis, there are theorists who have focused and systematic frameworks on genre and socio semantic representation within a discourse, but there are also those who combine various kinds of research methodologies (Blommaert Bulcaen, 2008). In this research, the method utilized is communicative event analysis, which is part of Norman Fairclough s critical discourse analysis framework. Communicative event analysis observes a discourse as a social practice which is composed of three dimensions: text, discourse practice, and social ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 45. Barbie Effect On America Research Paper Victoria Pesic Ms Ragno Practical Writing 5 May 2016 Barbie s Effect on America Most American girls can remember growing up with the blonde, plastic, fashionable doll called Barbie. The first item to pop into people s heads, as they think of the perfect Christmas or Hanukkah present is the Barbie doll. When it comes to racial acceptance and body image, the doll is misleading. The Barbie doll taught children that blonde and white was the ultimate key to beauty or fashion. This Barbie doll set unrealistic standards for girls of all ages; with her curvy frame, perfect boyfriend, and her extravagant belongings she led girls to believe that self image is more important than frivolous objects. This skinny, curvy, white doll fabricated the futures... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 46. How The Segmentation Task Would Be Implemented One of the most important steps towards the completion of this project was the formulation of how the segmentation task would be implemented. The segmentation strategy should be designed in such a way that it can efficiently deal with the main challenges of the dataset. Firstly, the method should be able to ignore background noise, as well as objects that are not LDL particles. Additionally, it should be able to deal with adjacent and overlapping particles. A widely used strategy[26, 4] is to face this problem as a binary classification task, with the goal of classifying each pixel that lies on the surface of the object of interest as 1 and every other pixel as 0. However, this strategy would lead to loss of spatial information about the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Usually, more training data lead to a more robust network that can generalise better and as a result, make more accurate predictions. However, in some cases, it is difficult to acquire large amounts of training data, because their collection or production is either very time consuming or very expensive. In the case of the micrographs this project is dealing with, the manual annotation process is very time consuming (hence the need for the automation of this process) and this is why our dataset is limited to 41 images. However, in order to teach the neural network the desired invariance, a data augmentation strategy was followed. More specifically, left right and top down mirroring was applied to each image, which resulted in tripling the size of the original dataset. The same technique was also used on the corresponding manually created segmentation masks, resulting in a labeled dataset consisting of 123 examples. This augmentation strategy has been proved to boost the performance of convolutional networks in similar tasks [5]. Further augmentation of the dataset was initially considered by rotating the images by 90, 180 and 270 degrees, however, training the neural network on such a large dataset, turned out to be very computationally expensive, leading to very long training time and as a result this idea was abandoned. Additionally, to ensure that the memory requirements of the network during ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 47. Notes And Writing Of Briefing Notes Experience in the development and writing of briefing notes, reports, presentations or correspondence (memos, QP cards, etc.) Through my present and previous positions with the federal government, I accumulate many years of experience in developing and writing official and internal documents for different purposes such as correspondences, reports or memorandum. To illustrate this experience, I am providing the following example: In my previous position as Senior Advisor with the Commissioner of Lobbying, I wrote briefing notes and reports on a frequent basis. An important element of my job was to provide documentation to the director and senior management about outreach activities I was delivering to stakeholders. The purpose of writing briefing notes was to summarize the objectives of every outreach sessions and to inform them about specific follow ups to stakeholders requests. The first step was to compile the results of the research I have initiated on the stakeholders and their business area, by adding short paragraphs to keep a concise writing style. After finishing the writing part, I reviewed the document to ensure that all aspects are covered and that every key point previously discussed were detailed. Finally, I made sure to avoid grammatically or vocabulary errors in the finalized document and also to avoid the use of ambiguous words or expression that might lead to confusion or misinterpretation. To be more efficient for such tasks and once approved my ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 48. How Did Napoleon Modernize Ground Warfare Student Name: Brandon Goldstein Person of Eminence: Napoleon Bonaparte 1. What is your research question for this project? How did Napoleon modernize ground warfare? 2. Describe your research to date on your topic. This topic can only be analyzed by examining Napoleon in action, so I assessed reports and depictions of Napoleon s actions on the battlefield from battles such as Toulon, The Battle of the Pyramids, Leipzig, Borodino, and Austerlitz. I also examined comparisons of his tactics to previous tactics to deduce why Napoleon was so successful on the battlefield, despite sometimes being at a numerical disadvantage. Finally, I studied a biography, Napoleon in Egypt, to take an even closer look into his thinking and tactical genius. 3. What were your findings?... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Yes, I am including generals such as Alexander the Great, the Duke of Wellington, Ulysses S. Grant, Dwight D. Eisenhower, George S. Patton, and Erwin Rommel. He had a theory that wars could be won in one battle with a decisive blow and, of course, the complete annihilation of the enemy army. His army did not have supply lines; instead they lived off the land so that they could maximize their pace. Napoleon s cavalry was used to scout ahead of the real army so that Napoleon could know exactly where his enemy was. Napoleon also divided his army into corps that were never more than 24 hours apart so that they could assist each other if necessary. Napoleon devised tactics so that he could win any battle, despite his numerical disadvantage. Finally, Napoleon did not command everything on the battlefield; he delegated to competent subordinates who were able to make their own decisions, which helped with his army s ... • 49. Depreciation Rupee Depreciation: Probable Causes and Outlook The Indian Rupee has depreciated significantly against the US Dollar marking a new risk for Indian economy. Till the beginning of the financial year (Apr 11 Mar 12) very few had expected Rupee to depreciate with most hinting towards either appreciation or status quo in the rupee levels. Those few who had even anticipated may not have imagined the scale of depreciation with rupee touching a new low of around Rs 54 to the US Dollar. What is even more interesting to note is that when other countries are trying to play currency wars and trying to keep their currencies devalued, India is trying to prevent depreciation of the currency. (Read our previous report for a review of the situation ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Fiscal Deficit: Fiscal deficits play a role especially during currency crisis. If a country follows a fixed exchange rates and also runs a large fiscal deficit it could lead to speculative attacks on the currency. Higher deficits imply government might resort to using forex reserves to finance its deficit. This leads to lowering of the reserves and in case there is a speculation on the currency, the government may not have adequate reserves to protect the fixed value of the currency. This pushes the government to devalue the currency. So, though fiscal deficits do not have a direct bearing on foreign exchange markets, they play a role in case there is a crisis. Global economic conditions: Barring domestic conditions, global conditions impact the currency movement as well. In times of high uncertainty as seen lately, most currencies usually depreciate against US Dollar as it is seen as a safe haven currency. Hence even over a longer term, multiple factors determine an exchange rate with each one playing an important role over time. II. Rupee Movement since 1991 If we look at India s Balance of Payments since 1970 71, we see that external account mostly balances in 1970s. Infact in second half of 1970s there is a current account surplus. This was a period of import substitution strategy and India followed a closed economy model. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Interoperability can be linked to early civilization times when people would network, exchange goods and travel by long distances. There are two definitions that explain the functioning of interoperability. The first is having the ability of two or more systems to exchange information and the ability of those systems to use the information that has been exchanged (Fridsma, 2013). Interoperability has three core fundamentals: Foundational, structural, and semantic. The foundational concept allows the data exchange from one information technology system to be received by another, but does not require the ability for the receiving end to interpret the data (Levy, 2014). An example of this would be hospital environmental services being able to use the same program to see what patient rooms need cleaning, that the physicians, nurses and other core staff, but just the basics. They would not have access to patient s medical records, treatment plans and E Mar orders; however they may be able to see if the patient has MRSA or contact precautions. Another example of the foundational concept of interoperability is the lab sending test results in Microsoft Word, the nurse would have to download the attachment print it and read the document and interpret it to other health team members. Once it s analyzed by all parties, if feedback is required the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
