Tell Tale Heart Analysis Essay
True! Nervous very, very dreadfully nervous I had been and am; but why will you say that I am mad?
In the story A Tell Tale Heart the narrator believes that the actions he takes throughout the whole story
are completely normal. The eye of the old man is what the narrator says possessed him to kill him.
The central idea that Poe is revolving around the main character is the ideas of guilt, obsession, and
madness. The author uses repetition to really exemplify that the narrator was obsessed with the eye of
the man. In the story A Tell Tale Heart the narrator is mad. In the very first paragraph one of the first
clues that proves this is when he says I heard all things in the heaven and in the earth. I heard many
things in hell. He is imagining that he can hear everything around him. To really exemplify the idea
that he is mad the author uses repetition for this as well. Throughout the story the narrator asks the
reader multiple times if he ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Yes, it was this! He had the eye of a vulture a pale blue eye, with a film over it. Whenever it fell upon
me, my blood ran cold the narrator was obsessed with the eye of the old man. He claims that is was
the eye that caused him to kill the old man. For 7 long nights the narrator would sneak into the room
of the old man at midnight and open a crevice in his lantern to see the eye of the old man. It took him
seven nights because every time he would see the old mans face his eyes were closed because he was
sleeping. He didn t hate the old man, he was fond of him the only thing that fueled the murder was his
vulture eye. On the eight night the narrator was sneaking into the room when he made a noise and the
old man heard him. He stood there silent for an hour and slowly he opened the lantern until a simple
dim ray, like the thread of the spider, shot from out the crevice and fell full upon the vulture eye .
When he say the eye it finally fueled him to kill the old man and that is what he

Essay On Female Oppression In The Yellow Wallpaper
The Yellow Wallpaper : The Epidemic of Female Oppression
Neurasthenia is a medical condition characterized by lassitude, fatigue, headache, and irritability,
associated chiefly with emotional disturbance. The disorder can cause tiredness, fatigue, and extreme
stress or anxiety leading to oppression of a being. Oppression causes the separation of oneself from
society due to large amounts of anxiety. In the story The Yellow Wallpaper , the protagonist is
suffering from an illness that is said to be cured by her moving away from society and living in the
country for a few months with her husband. The short story is written by a nineteenth century feminist
Charlotte Perkins Gilman, who relates to the protagonist because she also feels the ... Show more

She doesn t say how old the child is but still addresses it as a baby, but being separated from the baby
is ideal especially due to her illness. Her being placed in an old nursery often will give her thoughts on
how she wants to hold the baby and how she misses her child. All of the action and suspense of the
story arises within the four walls of the narrator s bedroom, a former nursery and playroom with bars
on its window (Miskolcze 3). This can be showing that women are forced to take care of children and
that s all they can do. The irony of her being placed in a nursery shows that women are always taking
care of something in the nursey. The nursery is described much like a prison with bars on the windows
and the bed is also nailed to the ground and impossible to move. The narrator spends most of her time
in this room because she is usually in bed and this is a big cause for her breakdown due to the ugly
wall paper. She hates the wall paper; it infuriates her. The paper is a weird yellow color and has a very
ugly pattern. The wallpaper later symbolizes her oppression and is eventually torn down representing
her breaking through and fighting it

Lawrence Vs Texas Legal Individualism
Legal Individualism is a legal interpretation that emphasizes liberty, self reliance and independence.
Legal individualism means everyone is equal based on law system there is no external standard that
we can convincingly propose and maintain the separation of equality and inequality and also every
individual becomes the bearers of legitimate rights. The legal individualism expresses American
culture because of in an individualistic society, the law preserves the idea that everyone can freely
choose to interact with others in their own way whether for economic, artistic, religious or romantic
purposes. Not everyone s choice will be fine. Not an individual is unreliable. Not that they can not
abuse their freedom. All this is granted. But no one is to make others the reason for their master, but
other people may be smart. Both the case Lawrence v. Texas, The Republic of Choices and Bellah s
habits of heart mention that legal individualism is deeply in the America society nowadays. The case
of Lawrence v. Texas involves two adults who fully and mutually agree to engage in sexual acts that
are common to homosexual lifestyles. The state can not belittle their own survival or control their own
destiny by proclaiming private sex as criminal acts. Many commentators interpret opinion as a liberal
ethical approach that fundamentally broadens privacy and freedom of constitutional rights to cover all
no victim crimes. Judge Scalia responded to the view that the exclusion of the

Chronic Pain Research Paper
The National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke (NINDS) implies that acute pain, left
untreated, can lead to chronic pain. Chronic pain affects more Americans than diabetes, heart disease
and cancer combined and leads the cause of long term disability in America.
The first step in taking control is determining which type of pain you have.
Acute pain can be brief or last for months. Acute pain goes away after the cause has been treated.
Chronic pain is ongoing. Chronic pain lingers for months or years and can impact your physical and
emotional well being.
Here are simple ways to help manage your chronic pain:

Papa John Financial Analysis
Papa John s financial performance varies when comparing its financial ratios to its competitors.
Unfortunately, Papa John s cannot directly be compared to Pizza Hut because the largest pizza chain
corporation is part of Yum Brands, Inc., which also operates Taco Bell and KFC. In addition, the
fourth largest pizza operator, Little Caesars, is a private entity that does not require to publicly
disclose its financials. Therefore, a comparison of Papa John s financial analysis will be completed by
using one of the larger rivals, Domino s Pizza, and one of the smaller pizza chain enterprises, Rave
Restaurant Group (Rave).
When comparing different organizations of all sizes within an industry, it is feasible to use financial
ratios, especially liquidity ratios. Horngren, Harrison, and Oliver (2012) defines liquidity as a measure
of the company s ability to pay its short term debt obligations. Some examples of basic liquidity ratios
are the current ratio and quick ratio.
On one hand, a corporation s current ratio measures a company s ability to pay current liabilities with
its current assets (Horngren, Harrison, Oliver, 2012, p. 733). Papa John s current ratio of 1.14 for
fiscal year ending 2016 was higher than Rave s 0.76 (Morningstar, 2017). Nevertheless, Papa John s
current ratio is lower than Domino s Pizza, whose ratio was 1.23 for the same time period
(Morningstar, 2017). On the other hand, Papa John s quick ratio of 0.63 is higher than both Domino s

The And Placebo Effect On Human Sciences
Since every object, event and story can be interpreted from multiple perspectives, people gain their
knowledge in a way largely influenced by the perspective. It is difficult to be convinced of any
knowledge that is without bias. The knowers all pursue the answer to their questions when researching
or learning the knowledge, which results in the similar way of thinking among the similar
communities. Few can detach themselves from the contemporary situation since the cultural
background, various eras, and diverse ways of knowing all help to shape the pursuit of knowledge.

Chinese press may have delayed reporting the incident in order to keep the perfect appearance during

Citi Field Race Report
This was OCR # 2 on the day and my first time racing at Citizens Bank Park in Philadelphia.
Registration and Festival:
I arrived later in the afternoon so registration was light, but it did move nice and fast. With all the
stadium series races, the festival areas are set up different and it s not the same as the outdoor
races/venues. The positive part about stadium races are spectators and racers can hang out in the seats
and just enjoy soaking in the stadium and atmosphere.
Pre Race MC:
The MC wasn t bad, the fast pace used to release racers onto the course doesn t allow for him to say
much, so he kept it short and simple, but was high energy the whole time.

This stadium race wasn t much different than the others, it included many of the standard Sprint
obstacles and several obstacles unique to the stadium series. The course included several carry
obstacles, like the sandbag, water jug and Atlas carries which were all placed in good spots throughout
the course. The challenges/obstacles unique to the stadium races included a heavy rope jump rope, a
medicine ball slam, box jumps, and the Rolling Epic, which is a short distance crawl with your feet on
a little rolling device.
Some of the other obstacles on the course included: Z Walls, Rope Climb, Cargo Net, the typical
various height walls, the always fun Multi Rig, a heavy hanging bag obstacle called Gladiator to

Characteristics Of Queen Elizabeth A Machiavellian Ruler
A Machiavellian ruler is ravenous, manipulative, ingenious, intriguing, and authoritative as described
in Niccolo Machiavelli s book, The Prince. Queen Elizabeth I of England is the daughter of Anne
Boleyn and King Henry VIII. Unfortunately, her mother was executed by King Henry VII; her father
remarried numerously throughout her childhood causing distress and constant change. Throughout
King Henry s multiple marriages, Elizabeth acquired step siblings, Queen Mary I of England and King
Edward VI of England; Mary also eventually succeeded the throne after Edward s death. As Mary
ruled she developed a cancerous tumor, Mary held Elizabeth hostage in the Tower of London until she

I Was The Most Amazing Woman
I never thought I was the type of person to succeed, let alone thrive in college. That term is utilized
loosely, but it seems fitting as I notice the significant changes in myself that I had only used to dream
about obtaining. It s difficult to discuss these changes without sounding pompous or self righteous, but
I ve come to find a great joy in reflecting on where I came from and where I stand today. I never
expect to actually attend college let alone fall in love with a university that gave me more than just an
education. My mother had grown very sick and I was too scared to think about moving away from her.
The last five years were spent taking care of her and being there whenever she needed me. I felt like it
was my job to stay. She, however, had a different plan. Being the most amazing woman that my
mother is, she wouldn t take no for an answer. For that I am forever grateful. I found a lifetime
organization that would change my life in countless ways, a passion for a career, and a love for
myself. I ended up creating a new chapter in a seemingly hopeless life story that I had the displeasure
to call my own. The day I decided to apply to Eastern Michigan University was the first step I made
towards a happier existence. Eastern was the only college I applied to. I had the pleasure of attending

Evolutionary: Tom s ancestors are very large felines. Sometime in history, they evolved to become
smaller. Being a smaller animal meant that they had to comsume less food to survive. Tom is
portrayed as a very slim and lean character. He is able to move and run very quickly, especially when
chasing Jerry.
Behavioral: Tom once had a run in with a large dog named Spike. Spike is easily able to beat up Tom
and from then on, Tom is wary to bother Spike again in fear of another punishment from him.
Sociocultural: While it is true that kittens can drink milk, the ability to tolerate milk reduces in adult
cats. Giving milk to adult cats can cause bloating and make them sick. Later in the series, when it is

Written Assignment Unit 4
Introduction
The word renaissance can be defined as renewal or rebirth and the Renaissance period was significant
because it was an important transitional time, from approximately
1300 to 1700, in European history, which marked the end of the medieval world and the
birth of the modern world. This essay will delve into the relationship between the arts and the growing
body of scientific knowledge during the Renaissance and also examine three different works of art
from the three major stylistic periods: Renaissance, Baroque and
Rococo.
Arts and the Growing Body of Scientific Knowledge During the Renaissance
I feel that, during this time, there was a growing fascination and intrigue on scientific knowledge,
specifically, human anatomical studies. Growing knowledge of human anatomy enabled artists to
produce more realistic looking works of art. It is even said that Leonardo da
Vinci, often considered to be the model Renaissance Man , believed that the moral and ethical
meanings of his narrative paintings would emerge only through the accurate representation of human
gesture and expression ( The Enduring Relationship of , 2003). As the body was only viewed as a
transient vessel for the soul, during the Middle Ages, there was little interest in human anatomy,
however, as Renaissance artists increasingly desired to create more authentic and lifelike works of art
to more effectively convey their messages, there were, consequently, more scientific

Analysis Of A True Hero In Candide By Volitare
It seems that any person who carries some sort of characteristic of a hero goes through varies trails in
life. Whether if those trails are driving a man or women into something greater or realizing that they
themselves are less than anyone else. A man or a women that tends to lean on situation in life can
show themselves to be a hero because it shows their inner being and true self. When life throws
hardships and circumstance in their own life, a person who sees themselves as a hero are more aware
that tribulations in life can define how much it takes to be devoted, committed, and humble. Heroes
are mostly told in any sort of writing with a drastic journey or an ordinary story. Many people have
many definitions or aspects of what a hero is to them and discover their true identity. Although, a hero
can be an extreme character to most people, it brings many different appearances on what a true hero
is like. In the novel Candide by Volitare, the author demonstrates the main character s identity of being
a hero by going through a journey of finding his love Cunegonde. Throughout the novel Candide, the
main character, has discover himself on a journey that defines what some characteristics of a hero are.
Because there are many views of what a hero is supposed to be, the importance of noticing the novel s
idea on what a hero is shows that there is no limit of being a hero. To begin with, Candide can be
described in many ways by any person who has read the novel. However the author brought out
details of Candide s actions or motives on what life brings him. Whether if he was losing his friends or
a natural disaster occur, different aspects are displayed through his responses. Being a hero can be
described through its actions and motives by laying out the foundation on what their mindset is on. As
for Candide, his mindset was always on his lover Cunegonde and his goal was to be reunited with her.
Through his actions and behavior brings out the idea of what the novel captures the message. That the
message shows the manner on having no limit or boundaries in acting as a hero. For instance, doing
something out of the ordinary or unexpected in which it leads to a good purpose, can support the idea

The Impact of Lipolysis on Different Cheese Varieties
Impact of Lipolysis in Different Cheese Varieties Introduction During the process of ripening,
biochemical processes that take place in the cheese are the most importance factors that contribute in
speedy ripening process. Other than well studied, proteolysis, most important roles in cheese ripening
involves lipolysis, the fat burning process. Ripening is the main process in which development of the
cheese flavor takes place. During the process of ripening a large number of sapid compounds are
produced which if present in the correct ratios and concentrations lead to the best flavor development.
Three processes are known that contribute in the production of these compounds, lipolysis, proteolysis
and glycolysis. The flavor development in cheese depends upon the degree in which these three
processes functions that play key roles in distinct differences between cheese varieties. Extent of
Lipolysis in Cheese The studies have shown that the extent of lipolysis is different and varied in
different kinds of cheese. Dutch type cheese has lesser extent of lipolysis to extensive lipolysis as seen
in much harder, ripened Italian cheese. In the case of Emmental cheese, it is seen that only 1 2% of the
lipids are hydrolyzed, and the highest being in Blue cheese (Kilcawley, and Beresford, 2004, p. 34).
Lipolytic Enzymes Involved It has been highlighted that cheese with lesser amount of fatty acids is
considered unripened and not mature as compared to the cheese having higher

Historical Context Of The Great Gatsby
The world was, and still is today, immensely seduced by the prosperity gained through the
achievement of the American Dream. Francis Scott Fitzgerald utilized the theme of the American
Dream in the novel The Great Gatsby to illustrate the nation s obsession with success in the eyes of
society. Fitzgerald achieved the theme through the comparison of his own life and love story to the
legendary tale of Jay Gatsby that he created. Furthermore, Fitzgerald draws from the historical time
period, the Jazz Age, to emphasize the population s lure to luxury. However, critics have discovered
the novel s inconsistencies through its several oxymorons that plague reader s interpretations of the
novel s noteworthy characters. People are drawn to a world ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Fitzgerald utilized elements of the Jazz Age in The Great Gatsby to magnify the nation s addiction to
pleasure and prosperity. During the Jazz Age, a new, less restricted, outlook on life for women was
present( Historical Context: The Great Gatsby) . This was exemplified in the novel through the
character of Jordan Baker, a woman who was an athlete in a professional field. Nick Carraway, the
story s narrator, noted the following of Jordan s achievement s: At first I was flattered to go places
with her, because she was a golf champion, and everyone knew her name (Fitzgerald 57). Baker,
nonetheless of her dishonesty, was a successful woman that utilized her newfound freedom to produce
prosperity. Jordan Baker is not the only character in the novel to find prosperity during this era, as the
novel sheds light on the fixed World Series of 1919. Arnold Rothstein, a gambler, aided the Chicago
White Sox s in throwing the World Series, ( Historical Context: The Great Gatsby). In the novel, the
character of Meyer Wolfsheim is molded after Rothstein. Nick compares Wolfsheim s actions to the
single mindedness of a burglar blowing a safe (Fitzgerald 73). The comparison calls to mind the
recklessness of people during the Jazz Age that unlocked great fortune. People s recklessness during
the Jazz Age reached its greatest heights when congress passed the eighteenth amendment, banning
alcohol and sparking a series of illegal corporations that benefited from the nation s mistake
(Historical Context: The Great Gatsby). Prohibition is evident through various character s speculation
of Gatsby s illegal selling of alcohol (Fitzgerald 61). It is furthermore believed by Tom Buchanan that
Gatsby has acquired his money through bootlegging. He stated, I picked him for a bootlegger the first
time I saw him, and I wasn t far wrong (Fitzgerald 133). Prosperity is visible through Gatsby success

Managing The Merger And Acquisition Process

In the industrial stage the primary assets responsible for creating wealth in the organization were

In publicly held companies, poison pills refers to use various ways to prevent the takeover bids.
Takeover bids is bidder trying to obtain control of the target company, either by soliciting proxies to
get elected to the board or by acquiring a controlling block of shares and using correlation of the vote

Common types of poison pills

The National Football League And Its Effect On Society
The National Football League was created in September, 1920 and has since influenced America not
only economically but personally as the sport s dangers are slowly unmasked. The National Football
League has been covering up the corruption that has been going on for many decades and as people
begin to dig, many hidden truths are beginning to be uncovered. When people think about the NFL,
they are reminded of the sport that many have loved so much but little does our society realize the
major economic effects that the NFL has on America. Not all of us realize how much of our tax dollars
go towards new football stadiums, the massive parking lots used for games, and the football players
themselves. The National Football League claims to be nonprofit, yet it is clear that it is far from that.
In addition to the economic effects, it also has a more personal impact on our lives as more research is
showing the health hazards of playing football. The multiple head traumas that football players get
leads to chronic conditions such as CTE, a newer diagnosis, which causes many players to experience
symptoms such as brain deterioration, suicidal thoughts and ultimately death. Many parents put their
kids in a football league starting at a very young age but are unaware of the dangers they are exposing
their children to.There have been several cases of sudden deaths from young players including Andre
Jackson, a football player from Ohio High School who died suddenly two days after

The Figure Of A Snoot, By David Foster Wallace
I m sure that during our years in school, we have came in contact with someone we would classify as a
nerd. We would typically view this person as an overachiever or teacher s pet. That nerd was usually
the one who always passed their test, completed every assignment, read books for fun, and was very
eager to be the first one to raise their hand in class. They would always speak properly and often
corrected your grammar. Most people may view them as an annoying pest. That nerd would be
someone who David Foster Wallace would characterize as a SNOOT. Wallace wrote an essay where
he created an intellectual figure called a SNOOT. In this essay, I will better explain this intellectual
figure, how you can spot it early on in childhood, as well as compare them to Rodriguez from a past
essay. In an essay, written by David Foster Wallace, he creates a nonfiction character or intellectual
figure called a SNOOT. He defines a SNOOT to be someone who never fails to speak proper English
no matter where they go, is constantly correcting others grammar, and is fluent in standard written
English. In other words, a SNOOT is a grammar nerd. Wallace identifies himself with his made up
character and believes that not many people can be classified as a SNOOT. Wallace is a college
professor and finds it bothersome when his students fail to achieve grammatically correct language in
their writing. As a SNOOT he tends constantly have the urge to correct someone s grammar everytime

Erving Goffman s Presentation Of Self In Everyday Life
Erving Goffman was a Canadian born sociologist and writer. He was made a president of the
American Sociological Association. His best known involvement and contribution to the social
sciences is his theory of symbolic interaction and dramaturgy, which began with his 1959 book The
Presentation of Self in Everyday Life. This report explains that individuals have the ability to choose
their stage, the character they play, and the costume they wear in specific social situations (Goffman,
1959). He also worked with the total institution model, and used it to construct his studies, mostly in
Asylums. A total institution is a residence and workplace for similar people, who are cut off from the
wider society for an amount of time, and who altogether, lead an enclosed form of life (Frank, 2002).
This ties in with his next book about mental institutions, where he theorized that if people are treated,

He describes how the institution associates people into the role of a good patient , who is someone that
is blindly obedient, dull, harmless and inconspicuous (Goffman, 1961). He describes how the
debilitating environment in the institutions affect individuals perception of self worth, no matter how
therapeutic or non therapeutic a hospital and program is (Pilgrim and Rogers, 2008). People come
from their own social frameworks, where they occupy diverse roles. When institutionalized, these
individuals are stripped of their sense of themselves leading to what Goffman described as
disculturation (Davidson et, al. 2011). Instead of treating mental health as an illness, disculturation
leads to demoralization, deterioration, and leaves people virtually incapable of managing their own
lives in the real world , which leaves them requiring to remain institutionalized (Davidson et, al.

What Are The Similarities Between The Scottsboro Trials...
I think that Harper Lee was inspired by the events of the Scottsboro Boys to write To Kill a

very similar to people that were involved in the Scottsboro Boys trials. The setting in a small Alabama
town are similar and that both of the accoused rapes are both under similar circumstances that a black
man was accused by a white women. This essay will be comparing characters from the book to real

Mayella Ewell. During most of the trials Victoria would normally make a lot of jokes about things that
everyone was asking her. Mayella Ewell Was very afraid when she testified and basically just said
what her father said and was very hesitant and glanced over at her father before she answered any of
Atticus s questions. You learned that she had a very sad life and was a 19 year old girl who didn t have
any friends and claimed that Atticus was making fun of her when he asked if she had any friends or

Analysis Of The Film American History X
Vandalism, murder, and rape are only a taste of the violence presented within the film American
HIstory X (Tony Kaye). In his work, Kaye explores the origins of racism through the minds of Derek
(Edward Norton) and his brother, Danny (Edward Furlong); however, the film tells the story of far
more than these two brothers. It tells the story of all those who have ever overcame their prejudice
feelings through the process of introspection and their proximity to those they are prejudice towards.
While the situations and character transformations presented within Tony Kaye s film are too radical
and fast paced, it generates a true insight to the way of thinking that leads towards racism as well as
how some may overcome this weakness of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Kaye s creation presents a list of unreal situations. As the audience catches up with Danny years after
he witnesses his brother killing two black men, we find him in the principal s office for submitting a
glowing review of Hitler s book Mein Kampf. If someone were foolish enough to submit a review of
Mein Kampf for their high school English paper, they are foolish enough to make a mistake worthy of
expulsion far before they are at the grade level to write essays over books. To continue with these
coincidences, it is odd that the moment Danny changes his character and begins to accept people of
color as people he is shot by a person of color. This coincidence has clearly been used to assist
Hollywood as it attempts to tell its audience that racism will lead to a life of misery or even no life at
all. While Hollywood may be correct in this regard, using a coincidence to present this idea is
academically unacceptable. While these problems are real, they are all relatively small and are
overshadowed by one large imperfection.
Kaye s film, while a true work of art, has one fatal flaw, change cannot occur at the same pace shown
within Danny s transformation, especially when taking his environment into consideration. Change
takes time, especially when dealing with a deep seated prejudice such as racism. From the start of the
film, we see that Danny has had the ideology of racism ingrained into him so much that he looks at
Derek with pride, not in despite of his actions,

Theme Of Water In The Aeneid
The Aeneid presents various themes throughout the course of Aeneas s journeys, but I noticed that
particularly in Books I and VI the theme of water is very prevalent and important. First we see when
Aeolus stirs up the storm, water causes so much destruction and it is completely out of Aeneas s
control. Then as he is crossing over to the underworld, Aeneas encounters Charon and the river of
Styx, where the whirlpool is murky, unknown, and dangerous. Overall, water is depicted as a
dangerous uncertainty in Aeneas s world. It is extremely powerful and has the potential to do so much
damage, however it can also be still and murky. Vergil uses imagery and descriptive diction to enhance
the theme of water as perilous and unknown throughout The Aeneid.
The theme of water is prevalent from the opening lines of the Aeneid book 1, however it is best
expressed through lines 81 130 where we see Aeolus stir up a storm against Aeneas s ships. This idea
that the water is unknown, dangerous, and out of people s control is particularly evident throughout
this excerpt. Talia iactanti stridens Aquilone procella velum adversa ferit, fluctusque ad sidera tollit.

Promiscuity In Brave New World
Promiscuity in Brave New World Women in the 1920s were paving a path of independence through
different movements and organizations for equal rights, they fought for personal freedoms and
challenged the roles of traditional women. The women in Brave New World follow this trend with
their freedom of promiscuity, however, there is a lot of pressure on the women that can be seen as
harmful. People like Lenina often feel pressured and objectified by the amount of stress put on the
women to be constantly sleeping around and finding new partners every night. There are two extremes
of promiscuity, on one hand, there is the slut shaming society of the 1920s and on the contrary, there
are the opposite ideals seen in the New World society. Brave New ... Show more content on

From a young age, the people of Brave New World are taught to play erotically with other children on
the playground. Just like the morals of hypnopedia, promiscuity is built into the society from
decanting and shapes the ideology of women and their role. Women are expected to be giving
themselves to whoever wants them whenever the male figure wants them which harms their
independence. This is especially seen when the Director tells a little girl, Run away now and see if you
can find some other little boy to play with (Huxley 32). From the youngest of ages, women are
constantly being told their place in society is to please men and this again makes promiscuity a
normalcy thus taking power away from women. Seeing as women are seen as sex toys and made to
play erotically every day of their lives, they are seen simply as just another women and the power,
love, and passion that is exhibited in the 1920 s sex culture are taken away from women by making
them mere objects of promiscuity. The ideology and expectations of promiscuity in Brave New World
objectify and take power away from women both in the novel and in society

The Pros And Cons Of Sun Based Pokemon
Sun based Pokemon are better than Moon based Pokemon in design, abilities, and execution. By
Jeramie Fisher The sun and moon have always been a constant presence and source of inspiration for
human beings, ranging from deities to simply providing warmth and a beautiful sight to see. Humans
have always had opinions, some stronger than others, and today that topic will be discussed in
reference to a popular video game series, Pokemon. Now in order to keep opinions from being too
broad and contradictory The subject will be focusing on the Sun based Pokemon against its
counterpart; because face it every Pokemon is weak to something and for the most part Pokemon
matches are decided by what someone brings to the table. Execution, which is by far the most factual
way to prove that Sun Pokemon are indeed superior to Moon Pokemon, is placing them directly

Even for a club based in the Cradle of Football , Everton s history is startling. In their 138 years of

they have won nine League titles, five FA Cups and the 1985 Cup Winners Cup. Since 1892, the club

Having been founded in 1878, Everton quickly emerged as one of the top football clubs of its era.

The post war period was far less kind to the club, which initially struggled to rediscover their earlier

down to beat Sheffield Wednesday in the FA Cup final. The club won their seventh League title in
1970, but the rest of the decade was a fairly disappointing affair, mostly due to their arch rivals
Liverpool dominating the domestic competitions.
Everton s final claim to fame came in the mid 80s, with Howard Kendall taking over managerial
duties. Having won the 1984 FA Cup, the club won its first Double the following year; after claiming
a League title, they won the Cup Winners Cup by defeating Rapid Wien 3 1 in the final. Under

The club was far less fortunate in the Premier League era, with the 1995 FA Cup being their only

Early Medieval Architecture
Early Medieval structures are typically built from a combination of stone and timber called half
timbered buildings (anything built earlier than the 11th century) and later built with just stone. They
were built with a secure base, easily defended because of the thick high walls, and secure entry gates
to protect from frontal attacks. Some even included keeps, turrets with small, high windows (which
provided protection for archers), and a moat or trench of water to deter invaders. These buildings were
also strategically placed next to bodies of water or mountains to monitor and control access and

were the shapes of the structures the Castillo being made into the shape of a star and the Windsor

with regular stone vs. Coquina, and how they were built, the Bastion system vs. motte and bailey

more weapons on the Castillo and they were less about protecting the people and more about
protecting the gold. And ultimately the building of the Castillo was more advanced because they had
the time and greater wealth to develop something of a greater stature than the fort and it wasn t just
made for protection of the people but more so for the protection of their assets. But without the
engineering feats of the Windsor Castle the Castillo may never have been built because it was a result
of years and years of militaristic advances in building technology.

How Technology Affected Canada s Economy
After the First World War, Canada s economy was in a rough state. Steel and chemical plants shut
down due to low demand, and weapon factories were no longer required. This resulted in the
unemployment of many people, and left Canada in an economic depression. The rise of technology
played a substantial role in taking Canada out of the post war depression. The mass production of
automobiles, assembly lines, and the use of this machinery assisted in economic growth. However,
technology still had a negative effect on the Canadian economy during the 1920 s as it caused the rise
of consumerism, required continuous input of money to further support it, and replaced people s jobs.

contemporaries, disapproving of their preoccupation with gaining status and wealth, and claiming it
best not to think more of practical advantages than of [one s] mental or moral well being . . . in the
case of the State or of anything else (Apology 36c). He scorns the materialism of Athens powerful
figures, and their obsession with power and status. These judgements would suggest that Socrates
ideal Prince would not only never do injury upon others, but would in fact be entirely unconcerned
with gaining political status. The true champion of justice, he insists, must necessarily confine himself
to private life and leave politics alone (Apology 32a). This attitude represents the antithesis of all of
Machiavelli s advice in The Prince, although, as already discussed, Machiavelli does not claim that a
Prince should be a champion of justice, another point on which Socrates would disagree. In addition to
land and power, Machiavelli s Prince, as previously mentioned, is also chiefly concerned with his own
security and wellbeing (Prince 57). In this ruthless world which Machiavelli envisions, a Prince must
protect himself and his state at all turns from power hungry nobles, a dissatisfied populace, and
foreign invaders. While this Prince is likely to think of security and wellbeing in terms of the security
and wellbeing of his state and his person, Socrates claims that the wellbeing of the person is above all
a matter of the soul, encouraging the citizens of Athens

The Canadian Guidelines For Sexual Education
Sexual education is an important topic which as to be addressed due to the growing debates as to
weather it should be implemented within the school system. The Canadian Guidelines for Sexual
Health Education states that sexual education curriculums addresses a range of topics including
puberty, effective contraceptive methods, prevention of STI/HIV, communication skills, sexual
orientation, interpersonal relationships, and media literacy (Public Health Agency of Canada).
Children need to address such issues early in order to protect them from early initiation of sexual
activity, sexually transmitted infections and pregnancy. The issue is then weather or not parents
support such a program. A historical factor affecting sexual health education (SHE) is how it affects
those strongly rooted in religion. Canadian education is divided between non secular schools and
denominational separate schools (usually Catholic). Canada is a largely Catholic country, with 67% of
the population describing themselves as Roman Catholics in the 2011 Census (NHS, 2011). In Ontario
alone, Card, 2010 found that, as of 2003, there were 31 public school boards in the province (with an
average enrollment of 44,000 students) and 29 separate school boards (with an average enrollment of
18,000). The provincial Ministry of Education mandates the type of instruction that sexual health
education provides, for both public and separate school boards. Mckay, 2014 found that within
Catholic schools its

Influential Ideas For Protestant Theology
John Calvin was the son of bourgeois parents in Picardy, France (Brophy, 431). First, he studied at the
University of Paris to obtain a Master of the Arts degree, and then he went on to study law at Orléans,
where he received a doctorate of law (Brophy, 431). When he converted to Protestantism he was
forced to flee Paris and eventually ended up in Geneva, Switzerland, where he wrote his Draft of
Ecclesiastical Ordinances, along with many other significant writings (Brophy, 432). This document is
a primary source because John Calvin wrote it in 1541 in Geneva (Brophy, 432). Calvin wrote this
draft in order to educate people about the reforms he desired to see in the church throughout England
(Brophy, 432). His writings were one of the most influential ideas for Protestant theology (Cole, 318).
When Calvin converted to Protestantism, he wanted to create reforms within the church so that there
was proper structure for both the church and government (Cole, 319). The best way for him to get the
reforms he wanted was to write them down, which he did in the Draft of Ecclesiastical Ordinances.
Calvin s Draft of Ecclesiastical Ordinances is about the structure of the church and government he
wished to see (Brophy, 434). Unlike our government today, Calvin did not see a need for separation of
church and state. Calvin s ideal government was one that was tied directly to the church, and the
church officials would also be the government officials. The draft includes the duties,

Portrayal Of Happiness In Disney Films
Happiness is not just a feeling; it is a desire that one must have a drive for. As shown in Disney films,
love cannot be compared to reality. In order to have a relationship, the couple must have trust, honesty,
commitment, and most importantly, communication within the relationship. One must accept their
selves before venturing off into the world, looking for love to consider their selves as happy . In
reality, there is no fairy godmother there to make difficult situations disappear/make two people fall in
love with one another. People should care about how love is portrayed in Disney films because their
daughters may expect the same treatment and become emotionally damaged. This issue matters
because no one should be misled by what the media depicts. This topic is significant to culture
because it teaches young ladies to always love their selves first before deciding to love a young man.
Disney films generally portray happiness as existing in marriage or coupling, whereas real happiness
is achieved internally, and people shouldn t ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the film, Cinderella 1950, the young girl, Cinderella was a servant at her stepmother s house; she
too, was invited to a royal ball along with her stepsisters. She did not have a dress to attend this royal

here. And here I am, (Fairy Godmother). Unfortunately, Cinderella did not have faith in herself when
considering herself as suitable for the royal ball; she thought she was dull and boring. The fairy
godmother made her the prettiest and most bedazzled young lady in the ballroom. The prince was only
going to marry the young lady whose foot fit into the glass slipper, and obviously the shoe was made

The Universal Themes Of Parents In The Outsiders And The...
No matter who you are, or where you are in the world, best friends and siblings are people who
influence us daily, and help us through rough times in our lives. In the two novels The Outsiders, by
S.E Hinton, and The Wednesday Wars by Gary D. Schmidt, the two main are both example of this
universal theme. Ponyboy Curtis, from The Outsiders lives in Tulsa Oklahoma, trying to find a
balance from the dangerous world that is separated by the Greasers and the Socs. He soon finds that
these two different worlds are not so different after all. Holling Hoodhood is just trying to make it
through the confusing world that is seventh grade, while being alone in the classroom with a teacher
that hates his guts every Wednesday. One thing both Holling and Ponyboy have in common though, is
that they have a loyal best friend with them by their side, their best friends will always stick up for
them, and their siblings are always there when the world may seem against them. Ponyboy Curtis and
Johnny Cade have an unbreakable bond. There are many reason that Pony and Johnny have this kind
of trust. Ponyboy has a pretty tough life where he lives. Two different worlds that are constantly
contrasting with each other. However even in such a difficult place to be, Ponyboy can always rely on
Johnny throughout the novel. Johnny wasn t behaving like his old self. He looked over his shoulder
and saw that the door was blocked by flames, then pushed open the window and tossed out the nearest
kid. (Hinton

The Objectives Of Organic Farming
Organic Farming is the practice of producing food without the use of harmful chemicals that can cause
great damage to the environment. Their production is natural and is done without the use of things like
pesticides, herbicides or growth hormones in order to protect the surrounding areas. They are
produced without synthetic chemicals and no genetic modification can be used for these particular
plants. These plants are supposed to have higher nutritional quality without artificial fertilisers or
synthetic chemicals. Organic Farming falls within the Agriculture and Fisheries sector as it involves
cultivating of land to grow foods.
The aim of Organic Farming is to improve soil fertility by using different techniques such as crop
rotation and organic to assist in plant growth rather than using growth hormones or synthetic
chemicals.
In order to turn things organic, there is a process which must happen. Farmers must ensure that they
have effectively improved the fertility of their soil and they must try to eliminate weeds and pests
without using chemicals to do so. These things must be planned in order for the process to happen
sooner.
The Organic Federation of Australia (OFA) is one of the main organic organisations ins Australia and
was established in 1998 in order to represent organic and biodynamic industries within the country.
They wish to promote organic farming from a simple niche market to a larger and more significant
part of Australian food.

Essay on Revenge, Insanity, Murder Poe
Ending in death most foul, The Cask of Amontillado and The Tell Tale Heart feature revenge and a
painstaking cruelty. Pushed to the point of insanity and retribution sought over trivialities, the
narrators tell each story by their own personal account. The delivery of their confessions gives a
chilling depth to the crimes they have committed and to the men themselves. Both men are motivated
by their egos and their obsessions with their offenders. Prompted by their own delusions, each man
seeks a violent vengeance against his opposition in the form of precise, premeditated homicide.
Carefully, cautiously the Montresor plotted precisely how he would exact revenge upon Fortunato.
Much time and great energy was devoted to this ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Rather it is the old man s that is so unsettling. Any time the eye looked upon him his. It is that eye by
which he is consumed and that eye that sends him into madness. It pushes him to wish to never have
to look upon, or be looked upon by, that eye again. His solution, in what seems a rational choice to
him, is to kill the old man. With a similar precision as the Montresor took in The Cask of Amontillado
, the man in The Tell Tale Heart has devoted himself to the perfect method to dispatch the old man.
The point of view each story is told from is a key factor to the unfolding of the events. Had they been
told by an outside party rather than first hand from the men who committed the crimes, the depth of
their insanity may not have been revealed. Recounted with a harsh callousness, Montresor never
pauses or hesitates in his retelling. He speaks with an unnerving smoothness as if he were speaking of
something far more innocuous than murder. Just the same, he would allow for no distraction from his
plan. His cool manner lends itself to an eerie glimpse of his personality. No real regret is ascertainable,
save for the very end when the Montresor tells us that his. The narrator of The Tell Tale Heart ,
however, confesses his crime with an edgy nervousness. His story is choppy and disruptive. His
madness has a stronger sense of urgency. His remorse for the loss of the old man can be

Evaluation Of The Performance Appraisal
Performance appraisals are used in business today as a means of providing critical feedback to
employees on their performance in the workplace. In a global environment, particular care needs to be
exercised to ensure the message delivered and received by employees is sensitive to the cultural
differences between the parties. This document will be discussing a situation where unintended
consequences arose during a performance appraisal. The document will provide for a synopsis of the
case study, background information, and some of the strengths and weaknesses of the performance
appraisal. A review of if the situation could have been avoided and should the supervisor have
anticipated the employee reaction will also be discussed. Finally, a review of culture sensitivity in
performance evaluations will be analyzed and to determine if the interaction style between the parties
was the reason for the ultimate outcome.
Synopsis of the Case Study John Baker had a prominent position in a company called Caribbean
Bauxite Company of Barracania in the West Indies and had recently received an assignment to transfer
to another location. John Baker had been grooming his successor for several years, a gentleman by the
name of Matthew Rennalls. Before leaving for his new assignment, John Baker wanted to ensure that
Rennalls received an updated performance evaluation and provide what he felt was critical feedback
to Rennalls. This feedback had aspects that were both positive and

Irish in America Essay
Irish in America
America is a melting pot of different cultures, religions, ideas and identities, a country which over the
years has been molded, shaped and changed by its people. There are many historical factors that gone
into creating the country as we know it today, but none so influential as the immigration of millions to
the land of opportunity . The millions of people who came to the United States in hopes of finding a
better life greatly affected the course of American history, bring the the country new cultures, customs
and beliefs . Irish Catholic immigrants, . . . the first great ethnic minority in American cities, (1) had a

They had no money to push West and did not have the knowledge and skill to undertake large scale
farming in the South.(6) Settling in the urban areas caused great crowding of the cities. The native
inhabitants quickly chose to move out of the neighborhoods newly settled by Irish immigrants.(7)
Their movement was influenced by the poverty of the newcomers; they did not want to live amongst
the immigrant s squalor. However, the Irish took this unwelcoming behavior in stride, they, . . . had a
sense of identity and cohesion as a people oppressed by foreigners in their native land, (8) which
helped them to stay together during the rough transition to American life. Irish Catholics lived in the
slums, often cramming 4 families into a 1 family apartment. Although the basement, attic and tar paper
urban dwellings were bleak and depressing, at least American cities provided the company of their
own misery sharing people. (9) Irish Catholics depended greatly on their community and so it was a
great relief to have support groups in their new home, even if the quality of life was extremely low.
The streets were full of garbage and raw sewage flowed through open trenches. Disease was rampant,
as were rats and mice. Concentrated almost exclusively in Irish neighborhoods, cholera swept through
Boston, along with tuberculosis and typhoid.(10) Life expectancy was 40, but many did not even live
to be that old.(11) Irish neighborhoods, such as, Hells

  • 4. Tell Tale Heart Analysis Essay True! Nervous very, very dreadfully nervous I had been and am; but why will you say that I am mad? In the story A Tell Tale Heart the narrator believes that the actions he takes throughout the whole story are completely normal. The eye of the old man is what the narrator says possessed him to kill him. The central idea that Poe is revolving around the main character is the ideas of guilt, obsession, and madness. The author uses repetition to really exemplify that the narrator was obsessed with the eye of the man. In the story A Tell Tale Heart the narrator is mad. In the very first paragraph one of the first clues that proves this is when he says I heard all things in the heaven and in the earth. I heard many things in hell. He is imagining that he can hear everything around him. To really exemplify the idea that he is mad the author uses repetition for this as well. Whenever it fell upon me, my blood ran cold the narrator was obsessed with the eye of the old man. He claims that is was the eye that caused him to kill the old man. For 7 long nights the narrator would sneak into the room of the old man at midnight and open a crevice in his lantern to see the eye of the old man. It took him seven nights because every time he would see the old mans face his eyes were closed because he was sleeping. He didn t hate the old man, he was fond of him the only thing that fueled the murder was his vulture eye. On the eight night the narrator was sneaking into the room when he made a noise and the old man heard him. He stood there silent for an hour and slowly he opened the lantern until a simple dim ray, like the thread of the spider, shot from out the crevice and fell full upon the vulture eye . When he say the eye it finally fueled him to kill the old man and that is what he ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Essay On Female Oppression In The Yellow Wallpaper The Yellow Wallpaper : The Epidemic of Female Oppression Neurasthenia is a medical condition characterized by lassitude, fatigue, headache, and irritability, associated chiefly with emotional disturbance. The disorder can cause tiredness, fatigue, and extreme stress or anxiety leading to oppression of a being. Oppression causes the separation of oneself from society due to large amounts of anxiety. In the story The Yellow Wallpaper , the protagonist is suffering from an illness that is said to be cured by her moving away from society and living in the country for a few months with her husband. All of the action and suspense of the story arises within the four walls of the narrator s bedroom, a former nursery and playroom with bars on its window (Miskolcze 3). This can be showing that women are forced to take care of children and that s all they can do. The irony of her being placed in a nursery shows that women are always taking care of something in the nursey. The nursery is described much like a prison with bars on the windows and the bed is also nailed to the ground and impossible to move. The narrator spends most of her time in this room because she is usually in bed and this is a big cause for her breakdown due to the ugly wall paper. She hates the wall paper; it infuriates her. • 6. Lawrence Vs Texas Legal Individualism Legal Individualism is a legal interpretation that emphasizes liberty, self reliance and independence. Legal individualism means everyone is equal based on law system there is no external standard that we can convincingly propose and maintain the separation of equality and inequality and also every individual becomes the bearers of legitimate rights. The legal individualism expresses American culture because of in an individualistic society, the law preserves the idea that everyone can freely choose to interact with others in their own way whether for economic, artistic, religious or romantic purposes. Not everyone s choice will be fine. Not an individual is unreliable. Not that they can not abuse their freedom. All this is granted. But no one is to make others the reason for their master, but other people may be smart. Both the case Lawrence v. Texas, The Republic of Choices and Bellah s habits of heart mention that legal individualism is deeply in the America society nowadays. The case of Lawrence v. Texas involves two adults who fully and mutually agree to engage in sexual acts that are common to homosexual lifestyles. The state can not belittle their own survival or control their own destiny by proclaiming private sex as criminal acts. Many commentators interpret opinion as a liberal ethical approach that fundamentally broadens privacy and freedom of constitutional rights to cover all no victim crimes. Unfortunately, Papa John s cannot directly be compared to Pizza Hut because the largest pizza chain corporation is part of Yum Brands, Inc., which also operates Taco Bell and KFC. In addition, the fourth largest pizza operator, Little Caesars, is a private entity that does not require to publicly disclose its financials. Therefore, a comparison of Papa John s financial analysis will be completed by using one of the larger rivals, Domino s Pizza, and one of the smaller pizza chain enterprises, Rave Restaurant Group (Rave). When comparing different organizations of all sizes within an industry, it is feasible to use financial ratios, especially liquidity ratios. Horngren, Harrison, and Oliver (2012) defines liquidity as a measure of the company s ability to pay its short term debt obligations. Some examples of basic liquidity ratios are the current ratio and quick ratio. I never expect to actually attend college let alone fall in love with a university that gave me more than just an education. Written Assignment Unit 4 Introduction The word renaissance can be defined as renewal or rebirth and the Renaissance period was significant because it was an important transitional time, from approximately 1300 to 1700, in European history, which marked the end of the medieval world and the birth of the modern world. This essay will delve into the relationship between the arts and the growing body of scientific knowledge during the Renaissance and also examine three different works of art from the three major stylistic periods: Renaissance, Baroque and Rococo. Arts and the Growing Body of Scientific Knowledge During the Renaissance I feel that, during this time, there was a growing fascination and intrigue on scientific knowledge, specifically, human anatomical studies. Growing knowledge of human anatomy enabled artists to produce more realistic looking works of art. It is even said that Leonardo da Vinci, often considered to be the model Renaissance Man , believed that the moral and ethical meanings of his narrative paintings would emerge only through the accurate representation of human gesture and expression ( The Enduring Relationship of , 2003). As the body was only viewed as a transient vessel for the soul, during the Middle Ages, there was little interest in human anatomy, however, as Renaissance artists increasingly desired to create more authentic and lifelike works of art to more effectively convey their messages, there were, consequently, more scientific ... • 21. The Impact of Lipolysis on Different Cheese Varieties Impact of Lipolysis in Different Cheese Varieties Introduction During the process of ripening, biochemical processes that take place in the cheese are the most importance factors that contribute in speedy ripening process. Other than well studied, proteolysis, most important roles in cheese ripening involves lipolysis, the fat burning process. Ripening is the main process in which development of the cheese flavor takes place. During the process of ripening a large number of sapid compounds are produced which if present in the correct ratios and concentrations lead to the best flavor development. Three processes are known that contribute in the production of these compounds, lipolysis, proteolysis and glycolysis. The flavor development in cheese depends upon the degree in which these three processes functions that play key roles in distinct differences between cheese varieties. Extent of Lipolysis in Cheese The studies have shown that the extent of lipolysis is different and varied in different kinds of cheese. Dutch type cheese has lesser extent of lipolysis to extensive lipolysis as seen in much harder, ripened Italian cheese. In the case of Emmental cheese, it is seen that only 1 2% of the lipids are hydrolyzed, and the highest being in Blue cheese (Kilcawley, and Beresford, 2004, p. 34). Lipolytic Enzymes Involved It has been highlighted that cheese with lesser amount of fatty acids is considered unripened and not mature as compared to the cheese having higher ... The character in the book Heroes, Gods and Monsters of The Greek Myths written by Bernard Evslin was a yellow haired boy whose name was Phaethon. Phaethon felt deceived by his friend Epaphus. Phaethon and Epaphus were talking about their father, which are gods. Phaethon father is Apollo the sun chariot driver, and Epaphus father is Zeus the chief god, king of the mountains, lord of the sky. Phaethon feels mislead because after he tells Epaphus that he has driven the sun chariot. Epaphus express to Phaethon I still don t believe your father lets you drive it. In fact, I don t believe you ve been to the palace of the sun. I doubt that Apollo would know you if he even saw you Evslin 65. The National Football League And Its Effect On Society The National Football League was created in September, 1920 and has since influenced America not only economically but personally as the sport s dangers are slowly unmasked. The National Football League has been covering up the corruption that has been going on for many decades and as people begin to dig, many hidden truths are beginning to be uncovered. When people think about the NFL, they are reminded of the sport that many have loved so much but little does our society realize the major economic effects that the NFL has on America. Not all of us realize how much of our tax dollars go towards new football stadiums, the massive parking lots used for games, and the football players themselves. The National Football League claims to be nonprofit, yet it is clear that it is far from that. In addition to the economic effects, it also has a more personal impact on our lives as more research is showing the health hazards of playing football. His best known involvement and contribution to the social sciences is his theory of symbolic interaction and dramaturgy, which began with his 1959 book The Presentation of Self in Everyday Life. This report explains that individuals have the ability to choose their stage, the character they play, and the costume they wear in specific social situations (Goffman, 1959). He also worked with the total institution model, and used it to construct his studies, mostly in Asylums. A total institution is a residence and workplace for similar people, who are cut off from the wider society for an amount of time, and who altogether, lead an enclosed form of life (Frank, 2002). It tells the story of all those who have ever overcame their prejudice feelings through the process of introspection and their proximity to those they are prejudice towards. To continue with these coincidences, it is odd that the moment Danny changes his character and begins to accept people of color as people he is shot by a person of color. This coincidence has clearly been used to assist Hollywood as it attempts to tell its audience that racism will lead to a life of misery or even no life at all. Theme Of Water In The Aeneid The Aeneid presents various themes throughout the course of Aeneas s journeys, but I noticed that particularly in Books I and VI the theme of water is very prevalent and important. First we see when Aeolus stirs up the storm, water causes so much destruction and it is completely out of Aeneas s control. Then as he is crossing over to the underworld, Aeneas encounters Charon and the river of Styx, where the whirlpool is murky, unknown, and dangerous. Overall, water is depicted as a dangerous uncertainty in Aeneas s world. It is extremely powerful and has the potential to do so much damage, however it can also be still and murky. Vergil uses imagery and descriptive diction to enhance the theme of water as perilous and unknown throughout The Aeneid. The theme of water is prevalent from the opening lines of the Aeneid book 1, however it is best expressed through lines 81 130 where we see Aeolus stir up a storm against Aeneas s ships. This idea that the water is unknown, dangerous, and out of people s control is particularly evident throughout this excerpt. Male Homosexual Roles Amog the Isthmus Zapotec of Southern Mexico Carlos and Javier are two men living in the city of Juchit #8747;n, Mexico. They work at a small hotel just off the z calo, the main town square. Sometimes they converge with other men outside the hotel to watch people as they walk past in the z calo. As nearly anywhere in Mexico, the men comment and nudge each other when an attractive woman passes, but Carlos and Javier remain silent throughout the exchange. It is not until an attractive young man walks by that they speak up. ãÃUy, que guapo!ä Carlos exclaims: ãAh, how handsome!äÊ Carlos and Javier are muxeâ, the effeminate male homosexuals of Isthmus Zapotec culture. Muxeâs typically occupy work that would otherwise fall into the female sphere, such as selling in the marketplace and operating cantinas, though some do take work that falls into the male category, as with those who work in the petroleum industry. Carlos and Javier, however, fall into neither group. Their work cooking and cleaning at the hotel generally falls into the category of womenâs work, but few self respecting Zapotec women would do such work as a profession, outside her own home. Jobs like these, mainly involving housekeeping, are dominated by muxeâs, as is the highly specialized and respected field of dance instruction, according to my informants. Sexual relations among the muxeâ seem to be most public with mayates, though some muxeâs may enter into relations with other muxeâs. Muxeâs and mayates attend fiestas, weddings, and dances together as would a heterosexual couple, and their presence is not viewed as unusual. As many women dance with each other rather than with men, so too are muxeâs often seen dancing with other muxeâs, though this does not indicate a sexual relationship. Muxeâs and mayates can occasionally be seen kissing in public places as would many heterosexual couples. Muxeâs interact freely with both men and women, entering into scenarios in both the male and female spheres with relative ease. Muxeâs often enter into joking banter with ... • 42. The True Champion Of Justice In Shakespeare s The Prince contemporaries, disapproving of their preoccupation with gaining status and wealth, and claiming it best not to think more of practical advantages than of [one s] mental or moral well being . . . in the case of the State or of anything else (Apology 36c). He scorns the materialism of Athens powerful figures, and their obsession with power and status. These judgements would suggest that Socrates ideal Prince would not only never do injury upon others, but would in fact be entirely unconcerned with gaining political status. The true champion of justice, he insists, must necessarily confine himself to private life and leave politics alone (Apology 32a). This attitude represents the antithesis of all of Machiavelli s advice in The Prince, although, as already discussed, Machiavelli does not claim that a Prince should be a champion of justice, another point on which Socrates would disagree. In addition to land and power, Machiavelli s Prince, as previously mentioned, is also chiefly concerned with his own security and wellbeing (Prince 57). In this ruthless world which Machiavelli envisions, a Prince must protect himself and his state at all turns from power hungry nobles, a dissatisfied populace, and foreign invaders. While this Prince is likely to think of security and wellbeing in terms of the security and wellbeing of his state and his person, Socrates claims that the wellbeing of the person is above all a matter of the soul, encouraging the citizens of Athens ... • 43. The Canadian Guidelines For Sexual Education Sexual education is an important topic which as to be addressed due to the growing debates as to weather it should be implemented within the school system. The Canadian Guidelines for Sexual Health Education states that sexual education curriculums addresses a range of topics including puberty, effective contraceptive methods, prevention of STI/HIV, communication skills, sexual orientation, interpersonal relationships, and media literacy (Public Health Agency of Canada). Children need to address such issues early in order to protect them from early initiation of sexual activity, sexually transmitted infections and pregnancy. The issue is then weather or not parents support such a program. A historical factor affecting sexual health education (SHE) is how it affects those strongly rooted in religion. Canadian education is divided between non secular schools and denominational separate schools (usually Catholic). Canada is a largely Catholic country, with 67% of the population describing themselves as Roman Catholics in the 2011 Census (NHS, 2011). In Ontario alone, Card, 2010 found that, as of 2003, there were 31 public school boards in the province (with an average enrollment of 44,000 students) and 29 separate school boards (with an average enrollment of 18,000). The provincial Ministry of Education mandates the type of instruction that sexual health education provides, for both public and separate school boards. • 44. Influential Ideas For Protestant Theology John Calvin was the son of bourgeois parents in Picardy, France (Brophy, 431). First, he studied at the University of Paris to obtain a Master of the Arts degree, and then he went on to study law at Orléans, where he received a doctorate of law (Brophy, 431). When he converted to Protestantism he was forced to flee Paris and eventually ended up in Geneva, Switzerland, where he wrote his Draft of Ecclesiastical Ordinances, along with many other significant writings (Brophy, 432). This document is a primary source because John Calvin wrote it in 1541 in Geneva (Brophy, 432). Calvin wrote this draft in order to educate people about the reforms he desired to see in the church throughout England (Brophy, 432). His writings were one of the most influential ideas for Protestant theology (Cole, 318). When Calvin converted to Protestantism, he wanted to create reforms within the church so that there was proper structure for both the church and government (Cole, 319). The best way for him to get the reforms he wanted was to write them down, which he did in the Draft of Ecclesiastical Ordinances. Calvin s Draft of Ecclesiastical Ordinances is about the structure of the church and government he wished to see (Brophy, 434). Unlike our government today, Calvin did not see a need for separation of church and state. Calvin s ideal government was one that was tied directly to the church, and the church officials would also be the government officials. The draft includes the duties, ... • 45. Portrayal Of Happiness In Disney Films Happiness is not just a feeling; it is a desire that one must have a drive for. As shown in Disney films, love cannot be compared to reality. In order to have a relationship, the couple must have trust, honesty, commitment, and most importantly, communication within the relationship. One must accept their selves before venturing off into the world, looking for love to consider their selves as happy . In reality, there is no fairy godmother there to make difficult situations disappear/make two people fall in love with one another. People should care about how love is portrayed in Disney films because their daughters may expect the same treatment and become emotionally damaged. This issue matters because no one should be misled by what the media depicts.
