The genome is all the DNA in an organism, including its genes. The order of the four chemicals that make up DNA - A, C, T, and G - determines what species the organism is. The goal of the Human Genome Project was to identify all 20,000-25,000 human genes, determine the base pairs of human DNA, store the information in a database, and address any ethical issues. The project took 13 years and helped further research. Technology was essential to the project, as without it scientists would not have been able to record all the genes or use the information to create customized therapy plans and medication guidelines.
