Life in the Feudal System During Medievel Times
All of the villages had one large farm where all villagers shared as grazing land for their animals. The
village also included church land (glebe), the lords hunting forest, and meadows where hay was
grown.
A farmer usually had two crops; a spring and an autumn crop. The spring usually consisting of barley,
vetches, oats, peas and beans, while fall was usually just wheat and rye. Each seed was used in way.
The rye and wheat, besides being sold for cash, was used for bread. The barley was used for beer and
the oats and hay were fed to the livestock. Different crops are planted on the same field in different
years. One year they might plant wheat and then barley the following year. Barley and wheat use and

During the 11th Century, the lord started recruiting middle class freeman with actual skills. These men
also had a certain standard of quality equipment.
Around 90% of Medieval Europeans were peasants who worked as farmers. Peasants lived in village
of about 100 to 300 people, in a one of two roomed hut located around the village green or along the
villages dirt road. Village were usually near a river or stream because it then provided them with a
source of fresh water and fish. The villages and the land around them were called manors. Manors
varied in size from about 900 to 3000 hectares and were owned by a lord. The lord had his own
farming area which was around one third of the total area, this was known as demesne. The villagers
then farmed the rest of the land.
Women in Medieval times were totally controlled by the males of their family. They were expected to
obey their father, brothers or any other male members. If a woman was to be disobedient, she would
be beaten and was seen as a crime against religion. It was important for women to learn how to use
weapons so they could protect their homes when the men of the family were away. Some medieval
women held other jobs. There were women blacksmiths, merchants and apothecaries. Others were
midwives, workers in the fields, or spent their time writing, playing musical instruments, dancing or
painting.

Classical conditioning Classical conditioning is a form of basic learning the body automatically
responds to a stimulus. One stimulus takes on the properties of another. The Russian physiologist Ivan
Pavlov (1849 1936) is credited for discovering the basic principles of classical conditioning whilst he
was studying digestion in dogs. He developed a technique for collecting dog s salivary secretions.
Pavlov (cited in Eysneck M.W 2009) noticed that the dogs would often start salivating before they
were given any food or saw the feeding bucket or even when they heard the footstep of the laboratory
assistant coming to feed them. Quite by accident Pavlov had discovered that the environmental control
of behaviour can be changed as a result ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He argued that people could learn new information by observing other people this type of learning can
be used to explain a wide variety of behaviours.(Cited in Eysenck, M 2009) for example Teenagers

inflatable Bobo dolls. In one of the films it showed adults being rewarded for aggressive behaviour.
The second group were scolded and the third group were neither rewarded or punished. All children
showed increased aggression if offered a reward for what they learnt, and the behaviour decreases if
they are punished. (Cited in Gross 2009). for example social learning can be learnt through the media.

ASIC V Citigroup Case
INTRODUCTION
ASIC v Citigroup case was one of the biggest investment banking case of the year where the federal
court dismissed ASIC s allegation of breach of insider trading and the takeover of an advising party.
Citi group received applause from commentators for their current practices, and the case fiduciary
duties were affirmed upon the legal bases the investment banks and the effectiveness of the Chinese
walls as a mean of dealing with potential conflicts (Ritchie 2008, p.1). Chinese walls are barriers
which were formed mainly to avoid conflicts which results in ethical practices rather than separation
within an organization, in this case of investment banking the Chinese walls may separate a person
who possess information to make investment decision to those who make investment decisions which
could influence those decisions (Tesarsch 2007, p.632).
Upon further analysis the case was deemed premature due to unqualified win for the investment bank.
Most of ASIC s claims collapsed which saved Citigroup, where the court s found out that there was no
fiduciary relationship between both parties. Citigroup is a large firm which has various divisions such
as equities trading and investment banking, the private side of the business is where the employees of
investment banking sector are exposed to market sensitive and confidential information and the
employees who work in other sectors such an equities trading is called the public side of the business.

Finding A Good Home Loan Calculator Essay
Most home improvement projects tend to stretch the wallets of the average homeowner, and so
whether you are hiring a contractor or doing it yourself, you will need to use a home loan calculator to
calculate the amount of a home improvement loan you will most likely need for your project. There
are many online home loan calculators out there to help you estimate the cost of your project.
Knowing how much the project will cost is only the first step, however, as home improvement
projects have become big hits with lending institutions, due to the fact that most home improvement
projects are too expensive to undertake all at once. Finding a good home loan calculator online will
help you get an idea of what type of loan you might need, as well as researching different choices out
there. You should always do good research on your project as well as the deals available to ensure you
are getting the best offer. Working with a free home loan calculator online is a must before working
with a lending institution. Before working with a home loan calculator, you should have readily
available your credit score, the cost of your project, and the approximate value of your home s equity,
as well as paycheck statements. If you have already selected a contractor, it is best to have the
contractor s information ready as well. Even if you do not have all of these items, you should still be
able to make use of the home loan calculator well enough. Once you have entered in the data, you will

Analysis Of A Poison Tree By Langston Hughes
The song Miss Missing You by Fall Out Boy states Sometimes before it gets better / The darkness gets
bigger/The person that you d take a bullet for is behind the trigger (16 18). These three lines speak the
message of, life is not easy, sometimes it gets difficult before it gets easier. In the same fashion, the
poems A Poison Tree by William Blake and Mother to Son by Langston Hughes both have this same
message that life is not easy and mistakes will be made, but do not become bitter, instead, keep going
forward, and things will get better.
Through A Poison Tree, William Blake shows that life is not easy and mistakes will be made, but if
people do not move on, things will not get better. In this particular poem, the author uses
personification to show their anger growing by giving it the characteristics of a plant. Blake uses
personification in phrases such as my wrath did grow. / And I watered it in fears and it grew both day
and night. / Till it bore an apple bright (4 5 and 9 10). This shows how this person becomes angrier
over time, fueling their feelings with fear and sadness. The poem ends with the person using their
anger to hurt someone else, only making things worse. This device expresses the theme because the
person in the poem did not do what they should have done. What they should have done was let things
get better on their own, instead they chose to let their feelings take over. In turn, they became bitter
and thirsty for revenge. Another device Blake uses is imagery because it shows again how this person
let their anger grow. Blake combines the use of personification and imagery in stanza two by saying,
And I watered it in fears, / Night morning with my tears: / And I sunned it with smiles, / And with soft
deceitful wiles (5 8). By using these two literary devices, he creates an image of someone watering
this plant with evil, while also having a Grinch like smile on their face. One could even go more into
detail and say that the nutrients in the soil are the evil ideas that the plant thrives off of to grow. This
shows that people should not let their anger get the best of them, but instead should move on to better
things. Similarly in Mother to Son, Langston Hughes conveys

John Ronald Reuel Tolkien And The Lord Of The Rings
John Ronald Reuel Tolkien was born on January 3, 1892. He was a major scholar of the English
language regarding Old and Middle English. Tolkien was the professor of Anglo Saxon (Old English)
at the University of Oxford, and he also wrote stories, including The Hobbit (1937) and The Lord of
the Rings (1954 1955); the setting is in a prehistorical time in his inventive world called by the Middle
English name of Middle earth (Doughan). This was lived by Men and Women, Elves, Dwarves, Trolls,
Orcs and Hobbits. He has been condemned by the Eng. Lit. establishment, but loved by the vast
masses (Doughan). There are some specific and significant events in his childhood and youth that will
influence on his works in the future, such as name, family, education, etc. His name Tolkien is from
the German Tollkiehn; in origin, the name is a compound of toll meaning mad and kuhn meaning
brave , and so meaning foolhardy. His nave also can refer to someone unwisely bold or someone who
displays courage and initiative in face of overwhelming odds (Grotta 15); he occasionally used the
pseudonym Oxymore (Doughan). His father s side of the family migrated from Saxony in the 18th
century, but about in the first half century before his birth had become Anglicized. His father, Arthur
Reuel Tolkien, was a bank clerk, and went to South Africa in the 1890s for better opportunity of
promotion. There he was married by Mabel Suffield, since then whose family were not only English,

Dementia With Lewy Bodies ( Dlb )
Dementia with Lewy bodies (DLB) is a type of dementia that shares symptoms with both Alzheimer s
disease and Parkinson s disease. It may account for around 10 per cent of all cases of dementia
(Alzheimer s Society, 2016). Lewy refers to the inflammation or neuro inflammation of the brain
(Surendranathan et al, 2015). Both Parkinson s disease and dementia with Lewy bodies are age related
diseases, although onset before age 65 years is not uncommon and both diseases are more common in
men than in women (Walker et al, 2015).
Lewy body was named after the scientist who discovered them, and found that it is made of a protein
called alpha synuclein (Brooker and Lillyman, 2013). When this protein builds up, it keeps the brain
from making the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
DLB shares mental symptoms, such as confusion and loss of memory, with Alzheimer s disease and
gait and slow movement, like with Parkinson s disease. For that reason it is often misdiagnosed.
Accurate diagnosis is paramount for successful treatment, although this must be done with caution as
people with LBD are characteristically highly sensitive to certain drugs which can worsen unpleasant
symptoms or even be fatal (Lewy Body Society, 2015).
The point prevalence of dementia is roughly 25% in patients with Parkinson s disease.6 The risk of
dementia increases with duration of disease and reaches 50% 10 years after diagnosis.7 Most patients
who survive for more than 10 years will develop dementia.8 The incidence of dementia is roughly 100
per 1000 person years; however, it is much lower during the first years after diagnosis.9,10 Increasing
age is a risk factor for the development of dementia in patient s with Parkinson s disease, and thus the
time to dementia decreases with increasing age at onset of Parkinson s disease.11
There are fewer prevalence and incidence data for dementia with Lewy bodies.

Compare and Contrast the Classical and Positivist School...
Compare and contrast the ideas of Classical criminologist (e.g. Beccaria and Bentham) with those of

They assume that if the number of sidewalks and bike paths are increased, people will be more
inclined to exercise and drive less. However, just because more of these will be built does not ensure
they will be used by the public. They believe the government should impose a tax on food they deem
detrimental to our health, regulate the ways this food is advertised, and limit its accessibility.
However, at a time when both houses of congress are controlled by the Republicans, a party whose
philosophy is they who govern least govern best, it is unrealistic to think that additional taxes and
bureaucracy will be considered an effective strategy. The authors propose a three step solution to the
problem. First, initiate a twinkie tax on sodas and junk food. Next, the food industry should be
regulated, even if it only comes in the form of banning junk food ads aimed at children. Finally, limit
the places where unhealthy foods are available ...through zoning and planning (2004). The limitations
of these suggestions are numerous. Americans feel overtaxed already, hence the Republican revolution
we have seen in recent years. Secondly, people do not like being told what is right or wrong for them,
which is what regulation insinuates. Third, in a capitalist society, why should any

Father Barry On The Waterfront Pigeons And Pigeons
The Transformations of Pigeons and Hawks On the Waterfront directed by Elia Kazan, is an award
winning, controversial film that portrays the symbols of hawks and pigeons. Pigeons are seen as weak
and fragile animals. Hawks, on the other hand, have eyes on the side of their head and see everything
around them. They are the birds on top of the food chain. Hawks may not be able to transform into
pigeons and pigeons may not be able to morph into hawks in the real world, but some characters prove
to be able to do the impossible. Father Barry is a character that demonstrates how one can spread his
weak pigeon wings and fly like a hawk. Contrarily, Johnny Friendly shows how one can begin leading

The Triune God Of Christian Faith
Mary Ann Fatula s The Triune God of Christian Faith provides for the reader the inner life of God as
well as insight into the human reality. Fatula s writing draws the devotional discussion of the Trinity
as the present day effect of the Trinitarian faith is called to support attempts to articulate and live the
Trinitarian mystery. The Trinity in a human s life is the content of our definition of our human
meaning and for an infinite gift: love. Each of us has a desire for achieving meaning, for love, and for
wholeness. Fatula in her book develops the study of the divine persons and states the importance of
understanding what it is to be truly a person of both human and divine potential.
In the Christian faith triune God is very significant. Christian is Trinitarian, describing Jesus as the one
whom the Father anoints (christos) with the Spirit so that the Spirit may anoint our own lives (16).
Christians confess Jesus as the risen Lord of the universe, but is proclaimed to be inseparable from the
one who sent him, the one Jesus knew intimately as Abba, or dear Father. The ultimate paradox of
Christianity is Jesus. Having Jesus at its very center disclosed as the source, the meaning, and the
definitive answer to all of human longings causes this ultimate paradox. Fatula goes on to discuss, that
although Jesus is the triune God, many of the people would not identify this God as the living God we
actually experience in our own daily lives.

Short Story Morg The Greatest Inventors Of All Time
Garret Morgan is easily one of the greatest inventors of all time. Morgan was born on March 4, 1877,
in Paris, Kentucky to two former slaves Sydney Morgan and Elizabeth Reed Morgan. Morgan left his
home at the age of fourteen and ended up in Ohio, where began to work finding odd jobs till he was
able to save up enough money and start a business of his own. Morgan opened his own tailoring shop
where he fixed sewing machines, and he eventually expanded it to clothing made from the sewing
machines he built. Garret Morgan loved working with his hands and experimenting with new
machines and products. In 1912 Morgan developed the safety hood which would eventually be known
as the gas mask, it had a hood with an insert for fresh air and an exit for exhaled air; it was also
connected to a tube in the back, which was an open end that contained a water soaked sponge, the
sponge would filter out smoke and so fresh air could get in. Because Garret Morgan was African
American, the gas mask was not widely accepted, particularly in the south. Garret had to hire a white
male to pose as the inventor of the safety hood; he himself would act as a test dummy during the
presentations of the product. This worked in Morgan s favor the presentations skyrocketed the sales of

Traditionally, independent dealerships utilize a far more centralized approach to customer level
decision making. These mom and pop dealerships acquired by Cervus were successfully converted
from a command and control style of management.
Inimitability and Substitutability
Cervus decentralized decision making model could be easily imitated. At first glance the model s
imitability appears to be a major barrier that is preventing a sustainable competitive advantage.
However, decentralization is not a new concept and was certainly not developed by Cervus. The true
value lies in Cervus ability to implement and execute the concept, which involves far more than
simply imitating a model or a process. Would be imitators must also invest the time necessary to
develop the experience and capability to implement the model effectively. Thus, Cervus
decentralization capabilities are actually quite difficult to imitate as they require a significant time
investment.
The organization of power within a corporation is a rigid dichotomy between centralization and
decentralization. Substitute strategies can exist anywhere along the spectrum whether they are
completely centralized, completely decentralized or somewhere in between. Though Cervus methods
are substitutable, centralized policies have not proven to be nearly as successful in maintaining

Pansette As An Accomplice In The Case Of Martin Guerre
In Natalie Z. Davis reconstruction of Martin Guerre s famous case of identity theft, Guerre s eight year
absence allowed for Pansette to authentically impersonate him for three years. . However, following
his dispute with his uncle, Pierre Guerre, over the family inheritance, Pansette was accused of being
an impostor, ultimately leading to his execution. Concluding the case, the court declared Bertrande
and the Guerre family victims in the trial. Unlike the participants of the case, Davis does not conform
to the idea of Bertrande as a mere victim, but rather, an accomplice motivated by socioeconomic
status. Critics often question whether Davis interpretations trespass the boundaries of a historian. Yet,
in order to evaluate Davis as a historian, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The key passage for critics explicitly states Davis beliefs of Bertrande as an accomplice, But the
obstinate and honorable Bertrande does not seem a woman so easily fooled, not even by a charmer
like Pansette. By the time she had received him in her bed, she must have realized the difference; as
any wife of Artigat would have agreed, there is no mistaking the touch of the man on the woman.
Either by explicit or tacit agreement, she helped him become her husband (Davis, 44). The main
argument is that Davis assumptions fail to take into account the ages of Bertrande and Martin during
their marriage, as well as Bertrande s long abstinence as a possible reason for her memory failure. Yet,
Davis arguments are far from imaginative, in fact, they are derived from the the thoughts of the French
peasantry, including those of Judge Coras himself, She had shared her bed with the prisoner for more
than three years, during which long interval it is not likely that the said de Rols would not have
recognized him for a stranger... (Davis, 79). Contrary to the arguments of critics, Davis does not fail to
demonstrate historical proof for her assumptions, as it is important for history to take into account the
psychology of the

Essay about Public Safety vs. Civil Rights
Public Safety v. Civil Rights
CJA 550
Crystal Shepherd
March 7, 2011
The argument of public safety versus civil rights has always been at the forefront of many major
political issues in the United States. Civil rights are the foundation of this country, and they protect it s
citizens. But with that, comes the protection of criminals, terrorists, and enemies of the state, and the
freedom for these people to move and operate against American ideals. The slightest restrictions on
civil rights increases the safety of the general public, enables law enforcement agencies to operate
more fluidly, and increases the rate for crushing the opposition.
The safety of the general population is far more important than the protection of the rights ... Show

Some of the countries and states still have the electric chair, firing range, and even the hanging squad.
One of the states that still had the electric chair was Nebraska. Nebraska, the only state with the
electric chair as the primary method of execution, determined on February 8, 2008 that it was cruel
and unusual punishment under the state s constitution, and the United States constitution. Prisoners are
no longer electrocuted in Nebraska, and now the state has no method of execution. A survey of experts
from the American Society of Criminology, the Academy of Criminal Justice Sciences, and the Law
and Society Association showed that the overwhelming majority did not believe that the death penalty
is a proven deterrent to homicide. (Radelet Akers, 1995) Gun Control: Amendment Violation or Public
Safety Concern The NRA argues that the Second Amendment of the U.S. Constitution guarantees
individuals the right to own and carry guns. They are concerned that federal regulations will continue
to increase until owning a handgun will be difficult to achieve, infringing on their Constitutional
rights. They also argue that if law abiding citizens have guns, they are safer from criminals, bringing
crime rates down. The Brady Center, on the other hand, argues that the Second Amendment of the

Scarlet Letter
Written in 1850, Nathaniel Hawthorne s, The Scarlet Letter stood as a very progressive book. With
new ideas about women, main characters stories intertwined, and a multitude of themes, The Scarlet
Letter remains today as an extremely popular novel about 17th century Boston, Massachusetts. Not
only was the 19th century a time for the abolition of slavery movement, but it was also the beginning
of the first wave of feminism, the advocacy of women s rights on the basis of the equality of the sexes.
Many may believe that because of this introduction to feminism, the novel directly pertains to the
ideology of it. Hester Prynne, protagonist of The Scarlet Letter, shows similar qualities of a feminist,
such as strength and independence. Although these traits are similar to that of feminist, Hester
encompasses a strict form of maternal instinct, which distinguishes her drive for action from the
feminist movement entirely.
The strength portrayed in Hester Prynne, a well known adulteress in this New World society, has no
direct relationship to feminism as we view it today. Hawthorne s representation of Hester s strength is
simply a personal trait, not an idea used to strive for equality among women. As Hester progresses
through her hardships, the meaning of the scarlet letter embroidered on her bosom shifts from a
negative connotation to a positive one, in fact many people refused to interpret the scarlet A by its
original signification. They said that it meant Abel (Hawthorne

What is communication? We often define communication as the act of talking to one another via
different platforms, be it face to face, via emails or even through videos. Through this act, we are
trying to pass a message or relate something to the intended audience. We face this every day in our
lives, even if we do not leave the house and talk to anyone. For example, even reading a cooking
recipe is counted as a form of communication. It is a form of communication between the reader and
the writer. The reader is trying to comprehend and follow the steps given by the writer whereas the
writer would be writing in a form whereby the steps is simple yet precise. So here are some
advantages and disadvantages of ineffective communication. For advantages, ... Show more content

Many people would know of this unfortunate incident, but not many would know that it was probably
the cause of an ineffective communication. The incident goes as follows, In July of 1945, the allied
leaders had a meeting in Potsdam and they submitted a stiffly worded declaration of surrender terms
to the Japanese. These terms had included a statement to the effect that any negative answer would
invite prompt and utter destruction. The allied leaders (Harry S Truman, Winston Churchill and Stalin)
also stated that they hoped that Japan would agree to surrender unconditionally and prevent
devastation of the Japanese homeland and that they patiently awaited Japan s answer. This was known
as the Potsdam Declaration. The Japanese Premier at that time, Kantaro Suzuki answered using the
Japanese word mokusatsu , which is derived from the word for silence . Yet, this word had a second
meaning which also means not worthy of comment . In the heat of the moment, the meaning was
thought to be the second one, which may be true as the Japanese were very prideful, as we can see
from the Kamikaze spirit. To rather die than be captured. After the allied leaders knew of this reply,
ten days later the atomic bomb was dropped at

The Enlightenment-Century Of Philosophy
The Enlightenment was an intellectual and philosophical movement which dominated the world of
ideas in Europe during the 18th century, The Century of Philosophy. The Enlightenment included a
range of ideas centered on reason as the primary source of authority and legitimacy, and came to
advance ideals like liberty, progress, tolerance, fraternity, constitutional government, and separation of
church and state. In France, the central doctrines of were individual liberty and religious tolerance in
opposition to an absolute monarchy and the fixed dogmas of the Roman Catholic Church. The

These laid down two distinct lines of Enlightenment thought: the moderate variety, following

My First Day Of A New School
I woke up to my alarm clock and mom banging on my door. The time is 7:50 and I am late for my first
day to my new school. Unsure of what to do when I pull up to the school I ask my mom to move back
to my old home. I walk into my new class with all eyes on me for being the new kid hoping the
teacher seats me in the back of the classroom for a quick getaway when the bell rings. Unfortunately I
was seated dead center, with an icebreaker activity. I met a new friend, his name was Augustine. Tall
and skinny with no real confidence to him, I decided to talk to him to see how everything runs. Not to
long before summer starts and I was hoping the days went by fast. After school was finally over it was
time to go home. The first day of a new school was not as bad. I received a text message from my
scout master saying the meeting starts at 7. Excited for the meeting to start I tried doing keeping
myself busy. It came time for the meeting and got my shirt freshly ironed with my slacks. We were
shown to dress up proper young men by our scout master. I walked into the door and saw everyone
already sitting at the round table talking about our next camping and fishing trip. The scoutmaster
would have us do charity work around the camp grounds picking up trash. Then the topic of our
summer camp came up and we were all excited. The activities planned we all fun and exciting.
Paintball and ziplining were my two favorite choice. My cousins were already jumping off the table.

The Definition Of Blind By Texas State University
Diversity is usually portrayed as the acceptance of many different races and geographical cultures. It is
not as common to hear the lack of diversity towards the blind community but it exists. The attendance
of Texas State University has opened up the doors to one of the most diverse places I have had the
chance to experience first hand. Although Texas State has become somewhat of a safe haven, that does
not displace the fact that there is stereotyping everywhere against the blind.
According to the Oxford Dictionary, the definition of blind is unable to see; sightless (Definition of
Blind in English, 2015). However, I do not like to be put in such a box. I define blindness as merely a
heightening of other senses. What do you think of when you hear the word sight? More than likely
you think of shapes, colors, and objects. My idea of sight consists of many senses; smell, touch,
sounds, those are the things that I see with. How about the word blind; what do you think of then? The
most common relation to the word blind is disabled; however, we are a very abled people. Even
though I carry a cane among my person I get through my daily life just as any other able bodied
human being (Question 1).
My name is Melony Fey Harper and I am blind. I am just another girl on just another campus getting
through just another day. There are a few differences, however, in the structure of a typical person s
day and my own. I wake up, brush my teeth, put on my makeup, and head downstairs

Assignment On Benihana Simulation
NAME: UTSHAV BUDHATHOKI

SUBJECT: OPS 802 OPERATION MANAGEMENT
LECTURER: DANIEL SKERL
SESSION: TRIMESTER 3
BENIHANA SIMULATION REFLECTIVE JOURNAL
OVERVIEW:
BENIHANA INC, an American restaurant company was founded in 1964 in New York City and has
116 Japanese cuisine restaurants. Benihana simulation is a computer simulation of an operation
management result based on concept of Benihana restaurant in Tokyo designed by Harvard school.
The outline of the simulation is based on two seating position i.e. bar and the dining area. The target of
this restaurant based simulation is to boost utilization, nightly profit and throughput time by using
batching strategy, size of bar and cycle time and different advertising scheme. Simulation consist of 6
challenges where only 1 to 3 factor can be changed in challenges 1 to 5 whereas challenge 6 is a
combination of strategies to gain the maximum output i.e. nightly profit by using all possible factors
from 5 previous challenges.
I started simulation by testing all the possible outcomes from challenge 1 to 5 and used the best
scenario from one simulation to the other step by step and drew the conclusion at the very end.
CHALLENGE 1:
The first challenge was to determine whether or not batching dining room customer was beneficial.
Batching means that the parties must reach a number of eight before they are seated. Two scenarios
from the simulation show that batching is a better strategy that helped to increase profit. Utilization of
the restaurant capacity is largest while batching. We could place 8 people at single table rather than
placing group of 5 at one and 3 at another. The number of customers that can be served at one time
highly influences the profit. According to the simulation it is more beneficial to use batching as
average profit is $83.64 compared to average profit of $282.29 when not batched. By using batching
benihana restaurants are able to eliminate bottleneck that occurs in the waiting area/bar. By doing so
they are able to see more customers in their restaurants which can be seen in the graphs to the right.
They lose fewer customers and more diners are served. Bottleneck primarily refers to the resources

Long Term Space Travel And Its Effects On The Human Body
Long term Space Travel and its Effects on the Human Body
Synopsis:
Humans are planning more space missions to Mars and deeper into the solar system. These manned
missions require longer periods of time in space than any human has ever spent, as well as traveling
farther from Earth s protection than ever before. There has been very little research conducted
regarding the effects of prolonged space travel on the human body. This paper examines how space
travel will likely alter bodily functions. The evolution of life on Earth means that humans are adapted
and specialized to live and function in Earth s environment. The environment of open space presents
hazards such as: solar radiation, microgravity, and extreme isolation. Prolonged exposure to these
hazards could result in cardiovascular issues, cancers, cellular disruption, decreased bone density,
osteoporosis, psychological issues, and more. It is important for scientists to research these hazards
and their effects on the human body further so as to find solutions and ways to combat the negative
outcomes.
Exploration is a key component of human nature. Humans have always had the will to venture out into
the unknown and explore new world. The curious and adventurous nature of mankind colonized the
Earth and landed men on the moon. But what is the next step? How much farther can man go?
Humans are looking past the moon, to the stars and beyond now. In the past decade, multiple
spacefaring governments and corporations have

Essay on The Tell-Tale Heart
Andrew Fiddler Professor Esquivel English 1020 15 February 2013 Themes of The Tell Tale Heart
Edgar Allen Poe explores the similarity of love and hate in many stories, especially The Tell Tale
Heart. In The Tell Tale Heart, the narrator confesses a love for an old man whom he then violently
murders and dismembers the body and hides the pieces below the floorboards in the bedroom. When
the police arrive, the narrator appears normal and unshaken by the murder. Later on, the man gives in
to the guilt and cannot withstand knowing anymore and not telling anyone. The narrator reveals his
madness by attempting to separate the person of the old man, whom he loves, from the old man s
supposedly evil eye, which triggers the narrator s ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The narrator reveals his inability to recognize that the eye is the I, or identity, of the old man. The eyes
symbolize the essence of human identity, which cannot be separated from the body. The eye cannot be
killed without causing the man to die. According to the narrator, For it was not the old man who vexed
me, but his Evil Eye. (Poe), the eye not the old man haunted him and had to be eliminated.
Characterization also helps the reader understand the theme. I think that the narrator is unnamed to
give the reader another sense that this whole story could happen to them, or anyone they know. It
shows the theme that everyone has an evil side, and although it is hard to admit, all humans are
capable of committing a murder such as this. But just like everyone is capable of committing this kind
of crime, everyone also feels the guilt after the deed is done. As the story goes on, the readers can see
the madness growing in the narrator. At first, he tells the story quite calmly. He even explains that after
the murder, he was completely calm with the police officers. The narrator then states The officers were
satisfied. My manner had convinced them. (Poe), thinking he could get by with the murder but he
could not stand the guilt that came along with it. By the end of the story when he hears the heartbeat,
his whole mannerism changes. He is stressed and his words and thoughts come out in a panicked tone.
Interestingly, there is only one set of spoken words that the

The University of Michigan Fab Five Essay
There seems to be a fine line, a three point line, between pushing the envelope and pushing a
revolution. In 1991, five freshmen from the University of Michigan brashly stepped over that line
redefining the world of college basketball as we knew it and in the process, revolutionized the
relationship between style and sport. These men were fresh in more ways than one, causing an entire
nation to dub them fabulous. They brought a hip and a hop to a game that was previously flat. Anyone
following college basketball loved or hated to love the Fab Five, evincing that either way five things

Ray, on the other hand, was a whole different story. Being from Texas and the son of a Preacher, Ray s

Impersonating his father s initial response Ray can t help but get animated Michigan? Ray you ve

Re dressing Feminist identities: Tensions Between Essential and constructed selves in Virginia Woolf s
Orlando
In this article, Burns, examines the personal identity and contextualized identity shown through
Virginia Woolf s, Orlando. Burns explains that it s not the person that changes, it s the interior self that
changes, it s the exterior self that changes. Woolf shows this by linking this theory, created by John
Locke, to the Oak Tree; the tree can be amputated of its branches or likewise to Orlando Castrated, but
it will still not change the inner self. Burns continues to explain that no change in identity has occurred
in Orlando during her body change. Although, she had a new body, Burns claims that her gender
cannot be affected until the clothes come on because the clothes are the shape the person.
Orlando Introduction by Maria Dibattista In the Gynomorphosis article, Dibattista writes that Orlando
s sex was changed which altered her future, but her identity remained the same. In addition, this
Gynomorphosis is meant under Woolf as a self actualizing event. Dibattista claims that Woolf is trying
to make us readers understand what is going on inside Orlando s mind rather than observe the events
that are happening to her. An agent that effects our mind is clothes. According to Dibattista, we are
molded by our clothing, therefore affecting how we think, feel, and speak. Clothes can mold our
exterior but is unreliable on the true person underneath it all, Woolf s

Florence Nightingale Impact In Nursing
Whether in acute care settings, global health care programs or community health organizations, nurses
rely on significant one on one time with their patients. By doing so, they gain a better understanding
of how to provide the kind of care that meets a patient s individual needs and comfort standards. This
patient centered care stems from Nightingale, who continues to have a major influence on the nursing
field today. Florence transformed nursing in London when she got back in Crimea war, She had access
to people in high places and she used it to get things done. Florence was stubborn, opinionated and
forthright but she had to be those things in order to achieve all that she did. In the 1870s, Nightingale
established nursing education by writing the first textbook on the subject in 1960; entitled Notes of

  • 9. Analysis Of A Poison Tree By Langston Hughes The song Miss Missing You by Fall Out Boy states Sometimes before it gets better / The darkness gets bigger/The person that you d take a bullet for is behind the trigger (16 18). These three lines speak the message of, life is not easy, sometimes it gets difficult before it gets easier. In the same fashion, the poems A Poison Tree by William Blake and Mother to Son by Langston Hughes both have this same message that life is not easy and mistakes will be made, but do not become bitter, instead, keep going forward, and things will get better. Through A Poison Tree, William Blake shows that life is not easy and mistakes will be made, but if people do not move on, things will not get better. In this particular poem, the author uses personification to show their anger growing by giving it the characteristics of a plant. Blake uses personification in phrases such as my wrath did grow. / And I watered it in fears and it grew both day and night. / Till it bore an apple bright (4 5 and 9 10). This shows how this person becomes angrier over time, fueling their feelings with fear and sadness. The poem ends with the person using their anger to hurt someone else, only making things worse. This device expresses the theme because the person in the poem did not do what they should have done. What they should have done was let things get better on their own, instead they chose to let their feelings take over. In turn, they became bitter and thirsty for revenge. Another device Blake uses is imagery because it shows again how this person let their anger grow. Blake combines the use of personification and imagery in stanza two by saying, And I watered it in fears, / Night morning with my tears: / And I sunned it with smiles, / And with soft deceitful wiles (5 8). By using these two literary devices, he creates an image of someone watering this plant with evil, while also having a Grinch like smile on their face. One could even go more into detail and say that the nutrients in the soil are the evil ideas that the plant thrives off of to grow. This shows that people should not let their anger get the best of them, but instead should move on to better things. Similarly in Mother to Son, Langston Hughes conveys ... The point prevalence of dementia is roughly 25% in patients with Parkinson s disease.6 The risk of dementia increases with duration of disease and reaches 50% 10 years after diagnosis.7 Most patients who survive for more than 10 years will develop dementia.8 The incidence of dementia is roughly 100 per 1000 person years; however, it is much lower during the first years after diagnosis.9,10 Increasing age is a risk factor for the development of dementia in patient s with Parkinson s disease, and thus the time to dementia decreases with increasing age at onset of Parkinson s disease.11 There are fewer prevalence and incidence data for dementia with Lewy bodies. ... Fatula s writing draws the devotional discussion of the Trinity as the present day effect of the Trinitarian faith is called to support attempts to articulate and live the Trinitarian mystery. The Trinity in a human s life is the content of our definition of our human meaning and for an infinite gift: love. Each of us has a desire for achieving meaning, for love, and for wholeness. Fatula in her book develops the study of the divine persons and states the importance of understanding what it is to be truly a person of both human and divine potential. In the Christian faith triune God is very significant. Christian is Trinitarian, describing Jesus as the one whom the Father anoints (christos) with the Spirit so that the Spirit may anoint our own lives (16). Christians confess Jesus as the risen Lord of the universe, but is proclaimed to be inseparable from the one who sent him, the one Jesus knew intimately as Abba, or dear Father. The ultimate paradox of Christianity is Jesus. Having Jesus at its very center disclosed as the source, the meaning, and the definitive answer to all of human longings causes this ultimate paradox. Fatula goes on to discuss, that although Jesus is the triune God, many of the people would not identify this God as the living God we actually experience in our own daily lives. There are three ... With new ideas about women, main characters stories intertwined, and a multitude of themes, The Scarlet Letter remains today as an extremely popular novel about 17th century Boston, Massachusetts. Not only was the 19th century a time for the abolition of slavery movement, but it was also the beginning of the first wave of feminism, the advocacy of women s rights on the basis of the equality of the sexes. Many may believe that because of this introduction to feminism, the novel directly pertains to the ideology of it. Hester Prynne, protagonist of The Scarlet Letter, shows similar qualities of a feminist, such as strength and independence. Although these traits are similar to that of feminist, Hester encompasses a strict form of maternal instinct, which distinguishes her drive for action from the feminist movement entirely. The strength portrayed in Hester Prynne, a well known adulteress in this New World society, has no direct relationship to feminism as we view it today. Hawthorne s representation of Hester s strength is simply a personal trait, not an idea used to strive for equality among women. I define blindness as merely a heightening of other senses. What do you think of when you hear the word sight? More than likely you think of shapes, colors, and objects. My idea of sight consists of many senses; smell, touch, sounds, those are the things that I see with. How about the word blind; what do you think of then? The most common relation to the word blind is disabled; however, we are a very abled people. Even though I carry a cane among my person I get through my daily life just as any other able bodied human being (Question 1). My name is Melony Fey Harper and I am blind. I am just another girl on just another campus getting through just another day. There are a few differences, however, in the structure of a typical person s day and my own. I wake up, brush my teeth, put on my makeup, and head downstairs ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 31. Assignment On Benihana Simulation NAME: UTSHAV BUDHATHOKI STUDENT NO: 5893276 SUBJECT: OPS 802 OPERATION MANAGEMENT LECTURER: DANIEL SKERL SESSION: TRIMESTER 3 BENIHANA SIMULATION REFLECTIVE JOURNAL OVERVIEW: BENIHANA INC, an American restaurant company was founded in 1964 in New York City and has 116 Japanese cuisine restaurants. Benihana simulation is a computer simulation of an operation management result based on concept of Benihana restaurant in Tokyo designed by Harvard school. The outline of the simulation is based on two seating position i.e. bar and the dining area. The target of this restaurant based simulation is to boost utilization, nightly profit and throughput time by using batching strategy, size of bar and cycle time and different advertising scheme. Simulation consist of 6 challenges where only 1 to 3 factor can be changed in challenges 1 to 5 whereas challenge 6 is a combination of strategies to gain the maximum output i.e. nightly profit by using all possible factors from 5 previous challenges. I started simulation by testing all the possible outcomes from challenge 1 to 5 and used the best scenario from one simulation to the other step by step and drew the conclusion at the very end. CHALLENGE 1: The first challenge was to determine whether or not batching dining room customer was beneficial. Batching means that the parties must reach a number of eight before they are seated. Two scenarios from the simulation show that batching is a better strategy that helped to increase profit. Utilization of the restaurant capacity is largest while batching. We could place 8 people at single table rather than placing group of 5 at one and 3 at another. The number of customers that can be served at one time highly influences the profit. According to the simulation it is more beneficial to use batching as average profit is $83.64 compared to average profit of $282.29 when not batched. By using batching benihana restaurants are able to eliminate bottleneck that occurs in the waiting area/bar. By doing so they are able to see more customers in their restaurants which can be seen in the graphs to the right. They lose fewer customers and more diners are served. Bottleneck primarily refers to the resources with ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 32. Long Term Space Travel And Its Effects On The Human Body Long term Space Travel and its Effects on the Human Body Synopsis: Humans are planning more space missions to Mars and deeper into the solar system. These manned missions require longer periods of time in space than any human has ever spent, as well as traveling farther from Earth s protection than ever before. There has been very little research conducted regarding the effects of prolonged space travel on the human body. This paper examines how space travel will likely alter bodily functions. The evolution of life on Earth means that humans are adapted and specialized to live and function in Earth s environment. The environment of open space presents hazards such as: solar radiation, microgravity, and extreme isolation. Prolonged exposure to these hazards could result in cardiovascular issues, cancers, cellular disruption, decreased bone density, osteoporosis, psychological issues, and more. It is important for scientists to research these hazards and their effects on the human body further so as to find solutions and ways to combat the negative outcomes. Exploration is a key component of human nature. Humans have always had the will to venture out into the unknown and explore new world. The curious and adventurous nature of mankind colonized the Earth and landed men on the moon. But what is the next step? How much farther can man go? Humans are looking past the moon, to the stars and beyond now. In the past decade, multiple spacefaring governments and corporations have ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 34. Essay on The Tell-Tale Heart Andrew Fiddler Professor Esquivel English 1020 15 February 2013 Themes of The Tell Tale Heart Edgar Allen Poe explores the similarity of love and hate in many stories, especially The Tell Tale Heart. In The Tell Tale Heart, the narrator confesses a love for an old man whom he then violently murders and dismembers the body and hides the pieces below the floorboards in the bedroom. When the police arrive, the narrator appears normal and unshaken by the murder. Later on, the man gives in to the guilt and cannot withstand knowing anymore and not telling anyone. The narrator reveals his madness by attempting to separate the person of the old man, whom he loves, from the old man s supposedly evil eye, which triggers the narrator s ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The narrator reveals his inability to recognize that the eye is the I, or identity, of the old man. The eyes symbolize the essence of human identity, which cannot be separated from the body. The eye cannot be killed without causing the man to die. According to the narrator, For it was not the old man who vexed me, but his Evil Eye. (Poe), the eye not the old man haunted him and had to be eliminated. Characterization also helps the reader understand the theme. I think that the narrator is unnamed to give the reader another sense that this whole story could happen to them, or anyone they know. It shows the theme that everyone has an evil side, and although it is hard to admit, all humans are capable of committing a murder such as this. But just like everyone is capable of committing this kind of crime, everyone also feels the guilt after the deed is done. As the story goes on, the readers can see the madness growing in the narrator. At first, he tells the story quite calmly. He even explains that after the murder, he was completely calm with the police officers. The narrator then states The officers were satisfied. My manner had convinced them. (Poe), thinking he could get by with the murder but he could not stand the guilt that came along with it. By the end of the story when he hears the heartbeat, his whole mannerism changes. He is stressed and his words and thoughts come out in a panicked tone. Interestingly, there is only one set of spoken words that the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 35. The University of Michigan Fab Five Essay There seems to be a fine line, a three point line, between pushing the envelope and pushing a revolution. In 1991, five freshmen from the University of Michigan brashly stepped over that line redefining the world of college basketball as we knew it and in the process, revolutionized the relationship between style and sport. These men were fresh in more ways than one, causing an entire nation to dub them fabulous. They brought a hip and a hop to a game that was previously flat. • 36. Tensions Between Essential And Constructed Selves In... Re dressing Feminist identities: Tensions Between Essential and constructed selves in Virginia Woolf s Orlando In this article, Burns, examines the personal identity and contextualized identity shown through Virginia Woolf s, Orlando. Burns explains that it s not the person that changes, it s the interior self that changes, it s the exterior self that changes. Woolf shows this by linking this theory, created by John Locke, to the Oak Tree; the tree can be amputated of its branches or likewise to Orlando Castrated, but it will still not change the inner self. Burns continues to explain that no change in identity has occurred in Orlando during her body change. Although, she had a new body, Burns claims that her gender cannot be affected until the clothes come on because the clothes are the shape the person. Orlando Introduction by Maria Dibattista In the Gynomorphosis article, Dibattista writes that Orlando s sex was changed which altered her future, but her identity remained the same. In addition, this Gynomorphosis is meant under Woolf as a self actualizing event. Dibattista claims that Woolf is trying to make us readers understand what is going on inside Orlando s mind rather than observe the events that are happening to her. An agent that effects our mind is clothes. According to Dibattista, we are molded by our clothing, therefore affecting how we think, feel, and speak. Clothes can mold our exterior but is unreliable on the true person underneath it all, Woolf s ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 37. Florence Nightingale Impact In Nursing Whether in acute care settings, global health care programs or community health organizations, nurses rely on significant one on one time with their patients. By doing so, they gain a better understanding of how to provide the kind of care that meets a patient s individual needs and comfort standards. This patient centered care stems from Nightingale, who continues to have a major influence on the nursing field today. Florence transformed nursing in London when she got back in Crimea war, She had access to people in high places and she used it to get things done. Florence was stubborn, opinionated and forthright but she had to be those things in order to achieve all that she did. In the 1870s, Nightingale established nursing education by writing the first textbook on the subject in 1960; entitled Notes of Nursing in her writing, she emphasized the importance of patient observation to figure out their symptoms and needs, as to be able to provide the right care; Nightingale mentored Linda Richards, ...
