Swot Analysis Of L. L Bean
Introduction: L.L. Bean Inc. or simply L.L. Bean is a retail company that specializes in outdoor
recreational equipment. Product selections ranges from tents, sleeping bags, camping packs, hiking
gear and outdoor apparel. Founded in 1912 by Leon Leonwood Bean, L.L. Bean remains a privately
owned retail company. Leon Bean was an avid outdoors man and enjoyed hunting and fishing. When
he initially set up shot L.L. Bean only sold one product the duck boot. This boot was designed to be
lightweight and waterproof intended for hunters. Later on Leon Bean started to branch out by selling
other outdoors gear such as backpacks and tents and would eventually produce their own clothing line.

Competitive Analysis L.L. Bean is currently in a market where there are few stores that dominate.
They face competition from companies such as Columbia, North Face, REI Timberland. In some cases
these companies may offer a wider range of products, more appealing design and higher quality.
Where L.L. Bean stands out is there in country manufacturing and Discovery School classes. Not only
are they selling outdoor gear they are offering outdoor classes as well. The way I look at it is, they
offer a product and a way to test it out at the same time so you know whether you are buying a good
quality product. But this however may still not be enough to succeed. Below I have included a list of
L.L. Bean s competitors. Columbia Columbia Sportswear may not be one of L.L. Beans strongest
competitors as they do not offer equipment but they do have a strong presence in apparel and offer a
good quality product. Based on the west coast in Washington County Oregon. Similar to L.L. Bean
Columbia is family owned but traded on public stock exchange. Columbia Sportswear takes pride in
manufacturing there products and has taken a stance to be environmentally friendly. Since Columbia

Nature Of Human
the Nature of Human Being
As the most giant super power in the world, almost everything happened in the United States has some
kinds of influence in the world. The American Revolution is definitely one of the most important
historical event in the history of the United States because its foundation of the idea of this country.
But behind the bright side of the main stream idea of the public, there are also dark sides in the
Revolution such as the bloody battle and the wealth growing of the minor elite. In this paper, I am not
going to admire the great achievement of the American Revolution nor criticize the bloody and dirty
trades behind the Revolution. I am here to explain that just like or other major events of human
history, Everything happened during and after the American Revolution is just a nature of human
being.
American Revolution was bloody and cruel, just like all other great revolutions in the history.
Besides the so called ideas carrying for the revolution like liberty and democracy, the Revolution
brought a bloody battle to everyone to the people in this land during that time, not only to the enemies,
but also to the people were supposed to be innocent.
During the whole period of the American Revolution. The United States suffered 25,000 70,000 total
death, 6800 killed in the battle, 17,000 died from the cause of disease, 8,000 12,000 who died as
prisoners of war (Civil War Trust). Just during George Washington s troop s settlement in Valley

Supreme Court Decisions Under John Marshall s Leadership
The Supreme Court s decisions under John Marshall s leadership at the time, did not extend federal
power too much because his opinions were needed to resolve and unite the states. The amount of
power he had at the time was appropriate for the situation. The Supreme Court has an important role
in out American government though, to lay the final decision in few peoples hands is giving them way
to much power. The Supreme Court has a significant amount of influence on many important legal
issues for our country, why do we give that much authority to individuals who are appointed for life
without being elected? John Marshall was a very good leader and his opinions in the Supreme Court

America Should Be A Capitalist Nation
During the nineteenth century there was a constant debate on if the government should regulate the
businesses and people of America. This debate included many different sides other than the capitalists
versus the socialists, throughout America people were placed on a spectrum from socialists to
capitalists with millions of different variations and beliefs in between the extremists. Some viewpoints
included men like William Graham Sumner or Herbert Spencer that believed in laissez faire capitalism
but differed in exact beliefs of how America should be ran from other capitalists such as Andrew
Carnegie and then there were viewpoints from men such as Henry Demarest Lloyd who strongly
opposed capitalism. Each perspective had positives and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
They also shared the belief that people had an individual duty to better themselves and those people
that did not progress in society did not deserve help or guidance from those that were able to do so on
their own. Sumner describes a person that is unable to progress individually as, a man who is present
as a consumer, yet who does not contribute either by land, labor, or capital to the work of society and
he believed that, on no sound political theory ought such a person to share in the political power of the
state. (518) Spencer shared in this view, he stated that individuals that were wealthy and in control of
business were more perfect than those that were poor and had not tried to progress to their highest
potential. He thought that the wealthy should not help the poor and that through this process a social
Darwinism would occur weeding out the weak. Although some capitalists agreed with these men s
thoughts, not all did, including Andrew Carnegie. Another argument in favor of a capitalist America
was that of Carnegie. He agreed with capitalists like Sumner and Spencer that laissez faire capitalism
was the right choice for American society, but he differed in their opinion about how America should
react to the poor. Like Sumner and Spencer, Carnegie thought that the owners of companies should
have complete control of their companies and should not be regulated by the government. Unlike

Negative Effects Of Technology On Communication
Technology has revolutionized communication and the world like nothing before. The Internet has
given the world a freedom never explored in the past. The Internet has broken communication barriers
to an extreme level. Now day s two people from two different countries can talk or chat without
interactions. Internet has given people the ability to connect forever through social networking. Some
of the biggest world social networking services are Facebook and Twitter. Through technology
communication is made much easier, but the communication with the people that are right next to us
might be getting weak. Technology has its positive and negative impacts on society. It could keep us
informed, but it could also affect anyone s communication life. Even though it s an easy
communication barrier it s being over used by society every day. The Internet has charge everyone and
everything over the years, it has giving us the ability to be informed on a much deeper level. Families
are losing their communication, but not just because of technology. Not everything is positive when it
s about technology. It could help us connect no matter the distance, but we could lose communication
and relationships. The world has not yet notice that losing important face to face communication
because of technology it s important.

Military Conflict Paper
TURKEY
The word culture has been commonly used in the current society. However, it is worth noting its true
definition. Biagetti Lugli (2014) asserts that if one made an inquiry of its meaning from
anthropologists whose sole responsibility is studying culture, then it is common knowledge that he
would receive a variety of answers from them. Despite the different definitions, most of them put
emphasis on same aspects. For this discussion, therefore, the definition of culture will be given. Also,
the article will provide its five primary characteristics, and the overview of the physical geography,
military conflict and its impact on Turkish society. The definition of culture that will be used is that it

This followed the failure of a two year process of achieving peace in the countries. The failure
stemmed from the increasing tensions that have been witnessed along the Syrian borders through the
high influx of refugees coming into Turkey (Orhan, 2014, p. 33). The conflict has massively impacted
this society because of the destabilizations that have been caused. Provision of services has been
massively affected. The refugees have put a strain on the available services. The levels of education in
the country have also been affected. It is because the conflict interferes with the uptake of knowledge
and sometimes even driving school going people away.
Conclusion
The article above has discussed the concept of culture. It has mentioned its five primary characteristics
encompassing the concepts of learning, sharing, integration, dynamism and symbolism. Besides,
common features of culture have been put into perspective. The similar aspects here encompass
purpose and mission, values and principles, rites of initiation, and history and traditions. The last issue
that has been discussed encompass the overview of the physical geography, military conflict and its

English Class Analysis
English classes in high school and middle schools tend to focus more on the writing part of the
subject, and I actually used to think English classes and writing classes were the same. Therefore, it
was surprising for me to learn new material in Dr. Holterhoff s class Visual Culture, Digital Archives,
and H. Rider Haggard. This class focused more on making posters that help you be convincing, as
well as presentation skills. We also learned how to analyse the posters in a written format so that a
person reading it, or hearing the presentation, could understand the reasoning behind a particular
format for a project. Throughout the semester, this English class helped me the most by introducing
me to a wide array of possibilities for conducting ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It required students in groups of 4 or 5... read one of Haggard s fifty novels. The groups would then
make a spreadsheet with tags about characters, location, themes etc., and present an argument based
on the tags. The project was also accompanied by a statement reflecting on the assignment and
explaining which of these visualisations reveal[ed] the most compelling, surprising, and/ or
historically significant argument about their data. My group decided to read the book the People of the
Mist by H. Rider Haggard, an adventure fiction about a man wanting to go back to England with
wealth gained from African soil. Three visualisations were created: one comparing the postures of
male and female characters, another comparing the colours used to illustrate one female protagonist,
and the last stating the importance of the theme religion in the novel and how this could be seen. The
poster about postures was a bar graph made on PowerPoint, while the second was a plotline made on
Keynote, and the third was a bar graph on number of times an illustration was used across editions and
a venn diagram comparing/contrasting the two religions that appeared: also made on Keynote. As
there were problems meeting with the group in this project as well, efficiency and productivity were
prefered over being original and making it visually inspiring.

Critical Thinking Skills Report
Hi *|FNAME|*,
Thanks for signing up for a Resume Review with me. The following are suggestions that I believe you
should make to better show off your skills, experience, and value. The changes you should make are
below:
First off, for skills section, you list some skills that you need to actually provide examples for. Some
of those skills are Active Listening, Reading Comprehension, Critical Thinking, Time Management,
and Judgement and Decision Making. These skills need to be proved rather than listed on your
resume. Prove them through past examples of how you used them to help in a situation.
For your experience as the Director of Resident Affairs, only use bullet points that relate that show the
soft and communication skills you learned ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Grammatically, bullet points don t have periods. Also, start off each bullet point with a past tense verb.
For your experience at COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT INSTITUTE HEADSTART, I believe the
title may have a grammar mistake.
One thing that I am noticing is your bullet points sound like there are copied from a job description. I
am not saying they are, but the bullet points don t sound unique in any way. For each of the bullet
points, describe in detail how you did that task and either what you accomplished or what was the
result. For example, for identify and recruit head start eligible families and children, how did you
recruit them, what did you do to find them. Describe more in detail what you did, so you can better
explain and better show what you did that is unique or made something better.
You should remove the accomplishments section. Yes, accomplishments are important, but if you don
t show how those awards can help the employer, than they don t mean much.
Most resumes tend to leave off references, and simply put the line references available upon request.
This is mainly because listing all your references takes up space, but if you would like to keep them
on there, that s

Sculpture Review of Spartacus Breaking His Chains Essay
Sculpture Review of Spartacus Breaking His Chains
This nineteen century sixteen inch sculpture was created by Denis Foyatier. The sculpture is of
Spartacus, a man who served as a leader in a revolt against slavery. This statue was composed of
bronze and could be distinguished by its fine polish and style. This bronze statue stood in a mobile
upright position, the left foot extended forward, the arms crossed around the lower chest region.
Foyatier succeeded in producing a vivid and convincing figure by using the techniques of shape,
texture and details. His techniques suggest and appeal to a sense of intense power and vigor.
The brooding stance and overall shape of Spartacus gives the sculpture ... Show more content on

The tenseness of his muscles is a clear suggestion that Spartacus was about to or already performed
some sort of movement. There is also a dominant s like shape runs through the body beginning from
above the knees and continues until the neck, this s like curvature provides the figure with a sense of
autonomous life.
The rough contrasting texture Foyatier uses makes Spartacus much more realistic and proves to be
very effective. His use of highly stylized polish contrasts the shades of the arms and legs. He uses a
lighter shade of polish around Spartacus s muscles; these highly polished areas provide sheen and
highlight strength and power. The use of different shades of polish is imperative to the sculpture
because it allows his spectators to focus on the more central parts of Spartacus. The uneven curly
texture in the hair also plays an important role; it adds a more realistic image to Spartacus s identity.
The use of the different textures generates liveliness and animates a sense of energy compressed
within Spartacus s quiet pose.
Foyatier uses careful detail in his presentation. His details of Spartacus s face are very effective as it
creates a mood and sets an ideal atmosphere for the sculpture. One can detect Spartacus s raging mood
by the intense glare of his eyes, the

Louis spent vast amounts of money and time in building this image of France being this lavish and

science discoveries, art, music, and cultural advances. One of the Louis greatest accomplishments that
immortalized him was the Palace of Versailles. The Court often shifted from place to place. Louis and
his courtiers were based in the Louvre Palace, then the Tuileries, alternating with stints at the
Châteaux of Saint Germain en Laye, Vincennes, Fontainebleau and the rapidly growing Versailles.
They were finally based in Palace of Versailles on May 6, 1682, when it was inaugurated. Louis the

glorified in history and his younger misfortunes when we was growing during The Fronde. This
shaped him because he wasn t going to let the nobles usurp his power and he wanted to prove people

Similarities Between Ancient Greek And American Society
American Society and Ancient Greece
Ancient Greece believed that art is a depiction of the one s culture and individualism. Ancient Greece
helped shaped the world of today. We have many similarities with ancient Greece today. Ancient
Greece had three different column styles the Doric, Ionic and Corinthian as a substitute wood for
building temples. These three different styles are still been used today in various mode like the
Greeks.
Thanks to the Doric style a plain, simple column with a circle on the top of the column, we can enjoy
the benefits of sitting on our porches with roofs attached protecting us from the elements. The porch
on the Governor s mansion in Atlanta, GA is another example of the Doric style. Ancient Greece built
temples ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The Corinthian style is used for contemporary furniture designs like my mother s cherry wood high
four posts bed with flowers etch in the posters. Many planners use the Corinthian style columns for
elaborate decorations particular in weddings today.
Another similarity, we share with ancient Greece is the love of sports rivalry especially the Olympic
Games. In 776 B.C., the first Olympic Games begin as an achievement in art, ethical conduct and
interaction of the mind in ancient Greece. Today athletes from all over the world take part in the
Olympic Games. In spite of the many new events such as bicycling, skating, gymnastics, swimming,
soccer and basketball, many of the earlier (ancient Greece) events such as footraces, jumping, discus
and javelin throwing, boxing, and wrestling are still a part of the today games.
As we mourned the recent loss of Muhammad Ali, boxing champion of the world to many, continued
the ancient Greece s tradition of carrying the torch to light the cauldron during the 1996 Summer
Olympics games in Atlanta, GA. The torch remains lit until the conclusion of competition today as it

To What Extent Does Patrick Suskind Develop Grenouille s...
Throughout the novel Perfume by Patrick Suskind, there is an obvious use of literary devices used to
describe the scents which Grenouille, the protagonist, smells, the way in which Grenouille smells
aromas, as this is different to the average persons scent capacity, and the relevance of the aroma, as he
emphasizes those smells which have an impact in the book through a more vivid and specific
explanation. This will be a comparison of two passages for the novel, one from the beginning of
Grenouille s life, and one from the end, in order to obtain a comparison in the description of scents
through the novel. Suskind uses devices such as metaphors, italics, and juxtaposition, to name a few,
to highlight the smell or aroma which Grenouille ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The diction used in the first text is not one of sophistication; as a child would be have speech that was
not yet fully developed. This is shown through the first two sentences of the description on the people
and laces affected by this smell, as it is a list of common people and places rather than a detailed
explanation and specific location. The language in this extract continues to develop into more
developed thought such as when Suskind explains there is no limitation to the scent. This explanation
as to the limitation of the stench is used not only to compare the horrific smell of Paris, but also to
emphasis the severity of this smell as even the King himself stank . This explanation as to the severity
of the smell is seemingly juvenile compared with that in the second text, as the first text simply says
what the smell is not limited to and creates a list of these things, while the second text goes on to
describe the reactions to this smell, this is more developed as it shows the influence of the scent
Grenouille has created, and the influence it creates on society. The first extract, although not as
developed as the second, gradually becomes slightly more mature through the paragraph, symbolizing
the growth of Grenouille through his introduction to Paris through the use of more

Strange Death of Silas Deane
The Strange Death of Silas Deane by James West Davison and Mark Hamilton Lytle creates a new
perspective on what people see history as. Although many people would define history as something
that happened in the past, through The Strange Death of Silas Deane , the authors demonstrate that this
everyday view on history can be profoundly misleading.
In the section, An Untimely Death , the author explains the key events of Deane s life and his death.
Silas Deane began his life as the son of a humble blacksmith in Groton, Connecticut (16). He went

The Problem of Definition Analysis
Through Socrates search of wisdom, he came across a young man named Euthyphro. Socrates
discovered that Euthyphro was going to try and prosecute his father in court after finding out his father
let a man die in a ditch to the elements. Socrates and Euthyphro engaged in a conversation discussing
the meaning of piety and what it means to be pious. As Euthyphro defines piety, Socrates has an issue
with the explanation he is being given and starts helping to guide Euthyphro to answer the question in
the right manor. Throughout this text, Euthyphro and Socrates try to answer one question; what is
Piety? Euthyphro and Socrates meet outside of the king archon s court and Socrates questions
Euthyphro as to why he is there. Euthyphro explained to Socrates that he is going to try to prosecute
his father for murder after his father left a worker to die because the worker murdered somebody. In
doing this, Euthyphro is going against what most people consider to be pious. Socrates is intrigued at
Euthyphro s actions and wants to know more I adjure you to tell me the nature of piety and impiety,

Compediate Reunion
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
(Huntington Beach, California) According to GroupTravel.org, approximately 66 percent of family
reunions take place during the summer months. More than half of these reunions involve somewhere
between 50 and 149 people, and keeping track of everyone s name can be difficult. This is especially
true when families only get together once a year of less often. Lanyards USA in California
recommends providing attendees with lanyards and name tags, as this helps to ease the introduction
process for those who don t know each other and those who are having trouble remembering names.
Printed Lanyards allow guests to recognize one another when they are in a public place, such as an

If the event is to be restricted to family members only, the lanyard allows those at the door to quickly

Planning a family reunion involves coordination of multiple details, and there are times when certain
details tend to be overlooked. For those who find they forgot to order lanyards or didn t even consider
making use of these accessories, time may be of the essence. In this situation, in stock lanyards may
offer a better option. For those with more time, however, custom lanyards tend to be preferred.
Consumers turn to use for their family reunion lanyards, as they know we have a large inventory in

Our Ethnography Research is how student s religious views affect their political views from a
standpoint of three different religions. Since we live in a college town, we decided the appropriate
demographic should be a college student between the age of 18 and 21. I got to interview a close
friend of mine, Danny. Danny is a sophomore at Oregon State University and he describes himself as a
Seventh Day Adventist, which is a smaller branch of Christianity and as a Democrat. I got to ask him
many questions that one would not usually get asked, which made the interview fairly difficult, but I
got to meet an entirely new friend.
The first question is, What do you feel shapes your view on pro choice / pro life? His response was
pro life because of his religion. Danny believes that he is pro life because his parents raised him to
accept every blessing as a gift from God. Along with that he reckons that a parent that aborts their
child should receive a considerable punishment. If the parents do not want to keep the child they
should give it up for adoption instead of aborting a gift from God. As a Christian ... Show more

Introduction.
Musical notes are a language that has evolved over thousands of years and the notation that we know
today, there are more than 300 years. Music notation is a representation of sound by symbols of a
simple notation for pitch, length and timing to more advanced features of expression, timbre, and even
special effects. This book will show you the basics of reading music, some more advanced methods
and how you can learn more about the subject.
This guide focuses on musical notations and symbols found on sheet music; note counts, accidentals,
time signatures, key signatures, breaks, codas, ornaments, and articulations, to mention a few. This
guide will also include pictures and simplified definitions to make it easier for you to understand.
Modern musical notation was derived from European Classical music and is still used by musicians
around the world.
In the middle of the 19th century, it was said that the monasteries in Europe began developing
notations for Gregorian chant using neumes* or the earliest musical notation. The roots of modern
musical notation symbols are originally from the Roman Catholic Church.
Neumes These were the earliest form of musical notation, used during the middle ages by Christians,
which are still being used for Gregorian chants and plainsongs (or plainchants) nowadays.

Converse College Essay
Converse College is a private college that realized that high tuitions were creating serious problems
for current and potential students to enroll in private colleges. Therefore, Converse was given the task
of motivating middle class students to have the experience of studying in private schools.
CHOICE 1: Reset tuition to a significantly lower price for traditional undergraduate students.
PROS:
Being pioneers in this new business model is an attractive opportunity to stand out from the crowd as
the steady increase in the tuitions in higher educations is a national concern. Therefore, more students

PROS:
Certainly, when frizzing student s tuition, they and their families would be sure that their tuition would

In addition, this proposal would be attractive to students and cause increased enrollment of middle

CONS:
A disadvantage is that this proposal is a short term solution to a long term problem. Since the school
has increases in operating costs every year. Therefore, the college has to generate additional profits to
offset these costs.
In addition, future generations would suffer from even higher fees because operating costs would still
require payment. Therefore the cycle of annual tuition increases would start again but now in a more
accelerated manner.

student without employment after college would have her loans covered by an insurance policy.

Characteristics Of The Malaria
Malaria is starting to become one of the worlds most common infectious diseases and problem to
peoples health around the world. This report will highlight the importance of learning the signs and
symptoms of the Malaria disease, how to prevent becoming infected with it and how to treat it if
someone does come in contact with it. It will also describe the characteristics of the four major types
of Plasmodium that affects humans along with the the complete classification, pathogenesis, how it is
transmitted from one host to another, and who and what country is affected most from this infectious
disease. Within the Malarian disease, there are many species of the Plasmodium parasites, and only 4
of those species affects the human population. Those species include the Plasmodium falciparum,
Plasmodium vivax, Plasmodium ovale, and Plasmodium malariae (Wiser, 2011). There is various
differences between these four, but they do all have one thing in common and that is that they all form
rings. The Plasmodium falciparum has numerous rings that are smaller, it has no trophozoites or
schizonts, it is also a crescent shaped gametocyte. The Plasmodium vivax has a enlarged erythrocyte,
Schuffner s dots, and ameboid trophozoites. The Plasmodium ovale is similar to the Plasmodium
ovale, it has compact trophozoites, fewer merozoites in schizont, and elongated erythrocytes. The
Plasmodium Malariae is a compact parasite and it has merozoites in rosette (Wiser, 2011). To further
identify this infectious disease, it can be broken down into its taxonomic classification. It starts with
the Kingdom being Protista, Subkingdom being Protozoa, the Phylum being apicomplexa, the Class is
sporozoasida, Order is eucoccidiorida, Family is plasmodiidae, Genus being plasmodium and the
species being falciparum, malariae, ovale, and vivax. (Keas, 1999). The mechanism of Malaria is from
a Plasmodium parasite, that originate in female Anopheles mosquitoes, that can spread into humans
from the bites of the infected mosquitoes (Mohandas An, 2012). Among the Plasmodia species... only
4 of the over 100 species of plasmodia are infectious to humans. The majority of cases and almost all
deaths are caused by Plasmodium falciparum, Plasmodium vivax,

Dingo Research Paper
Many people will confuse the dingo with a domesticated canine but the truth is the dingos were the
step right before the true domestication of dogs in Australia. The time of arrival , the source and type
of animal wild or domestic, were all uncertain. There hasn t been a lot of evidence, so everything has
been speculation, says Alan Wilton, of the University of New South Wales. The oldest fossil found in
Australia dates from about 3,500 years ago. Dingoes can live in a wide range of habitats found on the
Australian mainland. Their preference is woodland and grassland areas that extend to the edge of
forests; they are only limited by access to viable water sources.

Traditional Model Of Primary Health Care Essay
Traditional model of primary health care that involves physician centered approaches are often
inadequate for addressing the complex health needs that residents of low income neighborhoods
encounter (Whelan et al., 2010). Therefore, if the Health Bus provides services that are culturally
appropriate and addresses the needs of clients, it is anticipated that participants would be satisfied with
the services and would use the Health Bus services. Evaluation may show that the Health Bus team is
addressing other social determinants of health such as reducing social isolation among the clients. As
seen in the study by Whelan that indicated that clients felt more socially inclusive as a result of
chatting with staff and being treated with respect and dignity at the Health Bus in Toronto (Whelan et
al., 2010).
On the other hand, the evaluation may indicate that the Health Bus is not meeting the needs of
residents in the neighborhood. This may be largely due to the high morbidity and mortality rates from
a number of health conditions present in Saskatoon low income neighborhoods which the Health Bus
services do not address. Therefore, it may be worthwhile to scale up the Health Bus services to
provide a multidisciplinary health service for people living in Saskatoon s core neighborhoods by
merging existing services with other equally important health services on the Health Bus such as
mental health care. As seen in Greece where Mobile health units was used to assess, monitor and

1.0 Strategic Leadership Styles
Strategy is the direction and scope of an organisation over the long term: which achieves advantage
for the organisation through its configuration of resources within a challenging environment, to meet
the needs of markets and to fulfill stakeholder expectations . (Johnson and Scholes, 1999)
1.1 Strategic leadership is demonstrated when a leader knows effective efficient leverage of Strategic

Obesity On The United States
We are all guilty, we rather spend five dollars on a McDonalds or Burger King meal, instead of taking
a little time the day before and making our self our own meal, but let s keep on mind that just because
is made home doesn t mean is healthy. According to article The state of obesity by better policies of
America more than one third of adults (34.9) are obese in the United States. But why is there so much
obesity on the United States and who is there to blame? We can go ahead and blame the fast food
restaurants or we can blame the people itself. In my opinion the individuals are the ones to blame for
the obesity in the United States because they rather have fast and easy food even though it s not
healthy, individuals rather have cheaper meal, and because they don t exercise enough to burn the
calories they consume throughout the day. The main point of fast food is to be fats, easy and
convenient, but sometimes we humans abuse of that option that was given to us. Yes, its true fast food
are everywhere in every corner and in every place we turn to, but we cannot blame the food chains for
our decisions. Obesity is like a monster and we are feeding it, we stop on every school or work break
that we have to snack on some McDonalds, wing stop, and other fast restaurants that are in our path,
the only issue with is that we consume it on a daily basis making it our routine and we end up putting

Advantages Of Voluntourism
Reading Between the Lines Voluntourism Topic tourism: Should Voluntourism trips be discouraged? It
is not uncommon to see on Facebook selfies taken by youths with village children some half naked
some fully naked. Teaching English in Schools, building a basketball court, painting beautiful murals
on the walls of new schools and distributing food and healthcare packs to the villages are some
activities that are commonly included in the itinerary of such Voluntourism trips. In the recent years,
there are a growing number of youths who take a gap year to volunteer overseas. Voluntourism can be
defined as a form of tourism in which travelers participate in voluntary work to help communities or
the environment in the places they are visiting (dictionary.com). In the context of Singapore, such trips
are normally termed as Overseas Service Learning Trips (OSLP). They are usually organized by
schools to bring students abroad to broaden the students world view (Poh, 2014) and serve the

Toys Are An Integral Part Of Our Childhood
As a child grows, they are exposed to a society that expects them to conform to the assigned gender
roles and stereotypes. This is mainly done in accordance to their choice of games and toys. Toys are an
integral part of our childhood. In some ways, it is the one thing that people from all over the world
share in common. As children, toys were a major source of our entertainment and social interaction.
However, the booming population of children and the growth of toy industry has resulted in the
commercialization of childhood.
Toys have been an effective method used for generations to conform children and teach them about
society s gender norms as early as possible. Children, in their early years, are like sponges that absorb

Thus in this paper I will be exploring how as a society we have been conditioning generations of
children to abide and follow the gender norms without even realizing it ourselves.
The role of toys in gender socialization during childhood
An infant is a mere passive learner. It is the children in their toddlers stage, who start to understand the
basic gender typing and soon engage in gender segregation. A young female toddler learns at an early
age that she needs to strive and become a good mother with nurturing character when she grows up.
She acknowledges that this is what the society expects of her.
Similarly, a boy on the other hand realizes that he should not play with girly toys and perfect his
masculinity. In addition, according to a research study done by Robin Banerjee and Vicki
Lintern (2000), it was found that the younger children aged 4 to 6 years old are more likely to conform
and be rigid in the gender segregating activities than the older children. This just further shows how
much the children have been conditioned to follow the gender norms of the society throughout their
childhood; the society conditions a child majorly through storytelling, media, and parents, but more so
by the choice of the toys they pick.
Most children s choice of toys are based on gender stereotypes of the communities that they are raised
in. Boys and girls are divided into categories. Boys are categorized as
masculine in nature and girls on the other hand

Compound Nouns Essay
Objective This year my third grade class began a lesson on compound nouns. We began by playing a
matching game. Each child picked a card with a word on it. They then had to try to find a partner who
had another word that would pair up with theirs to make a new word. The children were very excited,
but no one made the connection with compound words. Once they were paired up, each student said
their word and their new word. At this point, they started guessing that we ere going to talk about
compound nouns. I observed the children s excitement begin to diminish when they realized they were
not just playing but learning too. I heard one of my boys whisper to a friend, She tricked us again.
Yeah, she s always good for that, was the response. At this point, I asked the children if anyone could
guess my favorite compound noun. Since this seemed like another game, the energy level began to
rise. With no one guessing the correct answer, I told them my favorite compound noun was
grasshopper. They began to laugh and wanted to know why. I told them it was because I loved to eat
grasshopper pie. There were lots of laughs and kids shouting gross. I asked them if they had ever had
grasshopper pie and of course, no one had. Throughout many of my lessons I use a cross curricular
approach, so this lesson fit right in. To incorporate math, we made a chart that showed how many
students thought they would like grasshopper pie. Most of the boys were talking

The Futility of Dreams in Of Mice and Men
Everyone has a dream they hope to achieve, but dreams are not always possible to attain. In John
Steinbeck s Of Mice and Men, two ranch hands, George and Lennie, find work in Salinas Valley.
Lennie, constantly getting into trouble, inadvertently causes the two of them to be run out of town and
thus have to find new work regularly. George and Lennie s search for work in the hope of
accomplishing their dream of a small farm of their own displays how futile realizing dreams can be.
The major themes identified by commentators in Of Mice and Men are friendship and isolation, hope
and futility(Votteler 334). Through George and Lennie s friendship, the hope to achieve their dream is

George holds Lennie in check by telling him about the farm and the condition that if he is good he will
be allowed to tend the rabbits on the farm. The dream was originally designed by George as a way to
try to get Lennie to be good, but after many times of repeating it, he begins to believe it
himself(Moore 341). George uses Lennie to sustain his own dream of the farm, that if he didn t
believe that Lennie needed him for protection his illusion would dissipate under the pressures of the
workday world (Marks 354).
George and Lennie come to work in the Salinas Valley where they are on the brink of achieving their
dream or doom(Moore 341). The itinerant workers hope to get the farm they dream of with the money
earned from working on the ranch(Doren 335). Curley s wife s dream of becoming a famous movie
star in Hollywood is as real to her as Lennie s dream of tending the rabbits is to him(Beatty 362).
George and Lennie are not like the other ranch hands in their friendship for each other and proves to
be so unusual that it brings hope to the bunkhouse keeper, Candy, and Crooks, for the possibility that
the dream of a home on their own farm could be fulfilled(Dusenbury 346).
The unexpected offer of three hundred dollars by Candy suddenly convinces George that their dream
may finally be attained(Shurgot 365). Crooks wants this dream, that is unattainable by himself, so bad

Over the 46 years ending December 2012, Warren Buffett (Berkshire Hathaway) has achieved a
compound, after tax, rate of return in excess of 20% p.a. Such consistent, long term, out performance
might be viewed as incompatible with modern finance theory.

Having compared the differences, it is still worth noting that Markowitz did not rule out fundamental
analysis in portfolio selection process, as is said in his foregoing paper,(Markowitz, 1952) the process
of selecting a portfolio may be divided into two stages.
The first stage starts with observation and experience and ends with beliefs about the future
performances of available securities. The second stage starts with relevant beliefs about future
performances and ends with the choice of portfolio. This paper is concerned with the second stage .
Part 2 Efficient Market Hypothesis
The strong form of efficient market hypothesis states that all information, no matter public or private,
instantaneously affects current stock price. Semi strong form is only concerned with public
information, while the weak form suggests that current stock price reflects information in the previous
prices. In short, they simply imply that in the long run, no one should be able to beat the market in
terms of investment return.
As is said in Fama s paper in 1970, (Eugene F, 1970) the evidence in support of the efficient markets
model is extensive, and (somewhat uniquely in economics) contradictory evidence is sparse .
However, Warren Buffet has always criticised efficient market hypothesis as much as he could. The

Essay On Public Service Loan
Though the popular notion is that student loans follow you throughout your entire life, there is a way
for you to become debt free sooner than you might have expected. If you have taken out any federal
loans, you are potentially eligible for student loan forgiveness .
Essentially, there are four main programs that can reduce or even cancel out your student loan debt.
Depending on your job, you can qualify for Public Service Loan Forgiveness, Teacher Loan
Forgiveness, Perkins loan cancellation or income driven repayment. These programs only pertain to
federal loans; however, there is no harm in reaching out to your private loan lender to seek loan
reduction based on your personal circumstances. Also, you will not be eligible for these programs if
you have gone more than nine months without paying towards your loan.

balance, and additionally if you took out loans after October 1, 1998. This program is best for you if
you wish to teach in low income public schools and have a relatively lesser loan balance. If you have a
greater loan balance and plan on teaching for at least 15 years, you would most benefit from the Public
Service Loan Forgiveness program, as it is more giving. However, through the Teacher Loan
Forgiveness program, you are able to diminish your loans in half the time it would take to be forgiven
from the Public Service Loan Forgiveness program (5 years instead of 10). You cannot participate in
both programs at once, but if you qualify for Teacher Loan Forgiveness, you can complete Public
Service Loan Forgiveness later on as well. To apply, fill out the application once you have completed
five consecutive years of teaching at a low income public school and send it to your student loan

Sydney Carton Ambiguity
Tale of Two Cities
Charles Dickens, a meticulous British novelist, imposes ambiguity in the personalities of Sydney
Carton, Madame Defarge, and Ernest Defarge to reveal the preeminent theme of his novel that people
are dynamic. Sydney Carton is an extremely ambiguous character in The Tale of Two Cites. Sydney
Carton transforms from debauchery to admirable. At first, Carton is a drunkard, and he is willing to
help out C.J. Stryver at any time of day. Carton made Stryver, one of most respected lawyers in
London, a brilliant and popular lawyer. Drinking and helping Stryver out keeps him from internally
beating himself up. Carton feels worthless and unlovable. Charles stated to Mr. Lorry after his trial, I
hardly seem yet... to belong in this world again (2. 4. 83). Carton is in the dumps and feels no hope
whatsoever. Sydney Carton has nobody to love or care for at this point in the novel; he selfishly
wishes he were imprisoned. Dickens leads us to believe there is no hope for Carton, but then Lucie

care for no man on earth, and no man on earth cares for me (2.4.70). Lucie has given Carton a reason
to live but not in the way the reader was hoping for. He promises Lucie he will take his own life to
save Lucie s life and every soul she loves. This promise was unexpected from egotistical Carton.

The Term, Image Of God
Introduction: The term image of God occurs three times in the Bible. In Genesis 1:26 27 and 9:6, we
find out that man is created in the image of God. In 2 Cor. 4:4 we see the phrase used in reference to
Jesus who is the image of God. There is no exact understanding of what the phrase means, but we can
generalize. It would seem that the first two verses refer to God s character and attributes that are
reflected in people. The term cannot be a reference to a physical appearance of God since Jesus says in
John 4:24 that God is Spirit, and in Luke 24:39 Spirit does not have flesh and bones. Therefore, we
can conclude that the image of God deals with humanity s reflection of God in such things as
compassion, rationality, love, hatred, fellowship, etc. God exhibits all of these characteristics, as do
people. Example 1: A good starting point is to respect others because God said to. For example, we
read in the Bible that husbands and wives are to respect their spouse and the wife must respect her
husband Ephesians 5:33. Husbands, in the same way are considerate as you live with your wives, and
treat them with respect 1 Peter 3:7. The same principle applies to other relationships. Peter wrote that
we should show respect to everyone. You can respect your spouse, child, parent, boss or others
because of their position. Acknowledge that others have weaknesses. Everyone is imperfect. Be
careful not to let their failures erode your respect for their good qualities. Look for things

My Life After A Volunteer At The Emergency Department
I was never fully able to wrap my mind around how one discovers their vocation in life. It was not
until last summer that I was able to uncover my passion. My novel discovery would take place during,
one of the most scorching months of August I ever recall experiencing. It would be during this
amplifying heat that I would conclude to go to Mercy Hospital and become a volunteer at the
Emergency Department. This day would not only come to symbolize an inflection point in my life due
to the fact that I had recently emigrated from Spain, but a realization of my calling in life.
As if it was yesterday, I remember I had to wake up punctually that day. My father, a draconian man in
his fifties, would have to drop off my mother first at her office, and afterward, come back home to
pick me up. Weak sunbeams shone through the blinds of my dusty window, taking with them a
sweltering tangibility that would congest my silent room. I suddenly got up, breathing heavy as if the
flaming spears of the sun had pierced my lungs.
Soon after I dashed to take an encouraging shower. Promptly, I put on a red polished polo with
hospital miniature logo. I added blue cargo pants, which I thought would fit better for the unknown
tasks waiting for me at the hospital. Since the first moment I exited the bed, my mind had generated
persistent feelings of inquietude. With the smell of brand new clothes still hovering in the air, I
believed myself to possess a health professional when my juvenile figure

The most prime example of the Gullah tale in the text is in the foreword section of the novel. Morrison
tells a story of a story where a man named Solomon escapes slavery while at the same time
abandoning his family. This allusion is a connection to the Gullah stories of the slaves who would fly
back to Africa to free themselves. The allusion appears throughout the rest of the novel. For instance,
in the first chapter, an insurance agent by the name of Robert Smith announced that he would fly off
the roof of Mercy, a local hospital, to the other side of Lake Superior. I will take off from Mercy and
fly away on my own wings, he said ( Song of Solomon 3). More references to flight and the Gullah
tale are made in the novel; Song of Solomon ends with the flight of Milkman Dead off Solomon s
Leap. Milkman stopped waving and narrowed his eyes. He could just make out Guitar s head and
shoulders in the dark...Without wiping away the tears, taking a deep breath, or even bending his knees
he leaped (SOS 337). The reference to the tale in the novel helps to establish equivalence between the
characters and the readers. In other words, by renewing the tale in her novel, the message of the tale
becomes more comprehensible to the readers especially to a new generation of African American
readers who can learn about and relate to

thought. When it comes to buying an engagement ring, the major key point is the ring. $4,000: that is
what the average American spends on an engagement ring. The cost of an engagement ring can be
pricy, and what many fail to realize is that they are only paying for the name brand not the quality. The
ad in the Cosmopolitan magazine implies that a perfect marriage is only perfect if one buys the Vera
Wang Love collection ring from Zales. The word perfect is bolded in black, san serif letters in front of
a white background. The word love is in capital letters, with the collection ring sitting in between the
letters L and O on the bottom left hand corner of the magazine. The text on the image is small, with
the words love and perfect made larger for emphasis. The words are emphasized for two reasons: to
capture the reader s attention and to create an illusion that the Vera Wang ring is the only ring to
propose with. The image is perfectly balanced with the man in a grey tone and a white ... Show more

The advertisement is found in a Cosmopolitan magazine, which is geared towards adults in their mid
twenties. Zales put their ad in this magazine because according to the Huffington Post, the average
marrying age is in the early and mid twenties (Borreson n.p). It is becoming more likely for couples to
marry at a young age (Borreson n.p). On the magazine s page it implies that Zales are the diamond
experts and that the ring is exclusively sold at their stores. According to the ad, an engagement ring is

The Importance Of Child Labor Laws
Regulating Child Labor Across the Globe It is estimated that one in six of the world s children are
working in unacceptable conditions and that is about 180 million children worldwide (Kilcullen 218).
That is a great deal of children that are exposed to harm or exploitation. The opposing side believes
that these poor countries need child labor to survive, that it is alright to pay children low wages for the
work they do, and do not believe that schooling is as important as work. By regulating child labor
laws, governments would be able to enforce safer working conditions, increase wages to meet the cost
of living, and mandate education for better opportunities even though the opposing side disputes these
reasons and stance.
First of all, child labor laws should be regulated so that working conditions are safer. Children s health
is diminishing because of the terrible working conditions. According to the International Labour
Organization (ILO), 23 percent of all children between 5 and 17 years of age were economically
active in the year 2000, and that About half of these children are estimated to do work that is likely to
harm their health, safety, or moral development (Huebler 4). There is an enormous amount of children
that are being harmed at work, and better regulations should be placed to stop this from happening.
Children are suffering from injuries at work, and the accidents end up unreported. England s Health
and Safety Executive says that there are 31

The Twin Themes Of Guanxi Culture In Chinese Society
The unique guanxi culture in Chinese society sets its societal framework distinctively apart from the
West. Although guanxi is often portrayed as one s social network, it is much different from the so
called connections in Western society. Guanxi is a special social phenomenon in the Chinese societal
context. It has survived throughout history and continues to be a prevalent trend because it has its
Chinese characteristics and attributes that are not found in other societies. The existence of guanxi in
Chinese society originated from the core Chinese value of collectivism. Since centuries ago, Chinese
society s group life and social organization has been based on collective interests. Familial sentiments
and obligations, [which were regarded as ethical relations], extended from the family into society
[later on] . The unofficial, informal networks of familial and kinship obligations provided the social
support mechanisms through which peasant families survived in the economy of transition and
hardships (Bian, 2001, p.276). The twin themes of guanxi and the sense of hierarchy mutually enhance
each other because private networks thrive through the existence of the principle of giving and
reciprocating, which highlights that there is a dependent on a more resourceful party in the
relationship. The future of the twin themes in China will continue to be built upon mutual reliance and
the looked upon generous favour giver in bridging the connections between multiple parties.

Stress And The Human Brain
When we encounter a threat that we feel we do not have the resources to deal with, a stimulus known
as stressors are released and as a result, makes us stressed. These stressors activate the stress response
system which sends a cascade of biological events thus releasing the stress hormones known as
adrenaline and cortisol. The hormones cause our body to go into a Flight or Fight mode and can affect
us either positively or negatively. By going into flight or fight mode our blood pressure, breathing, and
heart rate increases meanwhile there is a decrease in digestive activity and the liver produces more
glucose for energy. The topic of stress is a very popular area of study for those interested in human
sciences. In particular, stress is often viewed through the scopes of a Psychologist, Sociologist and an
Anthropologist.
The Psychologist s perspective revolves around relations between stress and the human brain. One of
the questions they might ask would be if an individual can be born with stress. The answer is
sometimes but not often. Researches at the University of Edinburgh found that mother s wombs and
babies brains contain a chemical protecting them from a mother s stress. However, if this chemical is
unavailable, then the mothers are potentially exposing their unborn babies to stress. The study also
discovered that the babies exposed to stress in the womb tend to be more susceptible to anxiety and
depression. A psychologist may also be interested in studying

Difference Between Chines For M-Form Organization
M form refers to the unspecialization of subnational governments. It follows a territorial principle that
regions are assigned to be responsible for similar task. For instance, province A is responsible for
agricultural and steel ministry, which is same for the other provinces such as B and C. They can be
seen as substitute for each other because they produce competitive goods. The administrative
coordination is decentralized in M form, meaning that planning in individual level is important. As
these regions need to make production decisions for their ministries, the autonomy of them is quite
high, and they have the right to control and allocate recourses within their jurisdiction. These features
can in fact be linked to the RDA system. In Maskin, Qian and Xu s research, ... Show more content on

So, any lagging behind only implies the low productivity of the regional official. With similar
information structure, regional officials have the incentive to outperform the other rivalries. Regional
competition can already serve as incentive scheme for local officials.
For U form organizations, as regions are different from each other, they react differently towards
industrial shocks. So, this provides an excuse for laggard that it is due to the differentiation regional
conditions. With completely different information structures, there is no incentive for local officials to
work hard under the U form.
Seeing how M form and U form organizations can affect information structures, as a result
determining incentives of local officials, the Maskin, Qian and Xu model can be used to prove it.
Firstly, the model states that there are 2 types of incentives the absolute performance incentive and the
relative performance incentive. The absolute performance incentive links the officials salary with his
outputs, while the relative one links his salary to others output negatively,

They face competition from companies such as Columbia, North Face, REI Timberland. In some cases these companies may offer a wider range of products, more appealing design and higher quality. Where L.L. Bean stands out is there in country manufacturing and Discovery School classes. Not only are they selling outdoor gear they are offering outdoor classes as well. The way I look at it is, they offer a product and a way to test it out at the same time so you know whether you are buying a good quality product. But this however may still not be enough to succeed. Below I have included a list of L.L. Bean s competitors. Columbia Columbia Sportswear may not be one of L.L. Beans strongest competitors as they do not offer equipment but they do have a strong presence in apparel and offer a good quality product. Based on the west coast in Washington County Oregon. Similar to L.L. Bean Columbia is family owned but traded on public stock exchange. (518) Spencer shared in this view, he stated that individuals that were wealthy and in control of business were more perfect than those that were poor and had not tried to progress to their highest potential. He thought that the wealthy should not help the poor and that through this process a social Darwinism would occur weeding out the weak. Although some capitalists agreed with these men s thoughts, not all did, including Andrew Carnegie. Another argument in favor of a capitalist America was that of Carnegie. The sculpture is of Spartacus, a man who served as a leader in a revolt against slavery. This statue was composed of bronze and could be distinguished by its fine polish and style. This bronze statue stood in a mobile upright position, the left foot extended forward, the arms crossed around the lower chest region. The rough contrasting texture Foyatier uses makes Spartacus much more realistic and proves to be very effective. His use of highly stylized polish contrasts the shades of the arms and legs. He uses a lighter shade of polish around Spartacus s muscles; these highly polished areas provide sheen and highlight strength and power. The use of different shades of polish is imperative to the sculpture because it allows his spectators to focus on the more central parts of Spartacus. The uneven curly texture in the hair also plays an important role; it adds a more realistic image to Spartacus s identity. The use of the different textures generates liveliness and animates a sense of energy compressed within Spartacus s quiet pose. Foyatier uses careful detail in his presentation. His details of Spartacus s face are very effective as it creates a mood and sets an ideal atmosphere for the sculpture. This will be a comparison of two passages for the novel, one from the beginning of Grenouille s life, and one from the end, in order to obtain a comparison in the description of scents through the novel. The language in this extract continues to develop into more developed thought such as when Suskind explains there is no limitation to the scent. This explanation as to the limitation of the stench is used not only to compare the horrific smell of Paris, but also to emphasis the severity of this smell as even the King himself stank . This explanation as to the severity of the smell is seemingly juvenile compared with that in the second text, as the first text simply says what the smell is not limited to and creates a list of these things, while the second text goes on to describe the reactions to this smell, this is more developed as it shows the influence of the scent Grenouille has created, and the influence it creates on society. This report will highlight the importance of learning the signs and symptoms of the Malaria disease, how to prevent becoming infected with it and how to treat it if someone does come in contact with it. It will also describe the characteristics of the four major types of Plasmodium that affects humans along with the the complete classification, pathogenesis, how it is transmitted from one host to another, and who and what country is affected most from this infectious disease. Within the Malarian disease, there are many species of the Plasmodium parasites, and only 4 of those species affects the human population. Those species include the Plasmodium falciparum, Plasmodium vivax, Plasmodium ovale, and Plasmodium malariae (Wiser, 2011). There is various differences between these four, but they do all have one thing in common and that is that they all form rings. The Plasmodium falciparum has numerous rings that are smaller, it has no trophozoites or schizonts, it is also a crescent shaped gametocyte. The Plasmodium vivax has a enlarged erythrocyte, Schuffner s dots, and ameboid trophozoites. The Plasmodium ovale is similar to the Plasmodium ovale, it has compact trophozoites, fewer merozoites in schizont, and elongated erythrocytes. The Plasmodium Malariae is a compact parasite and it has merozoites in rosette (Wiser, 2011). To further identify this infectious disease, it can be broken down into its taxonomic classification. It starts with the Kingdom being Protista, Subkingdom being Protozoa, the Phylum being apicomplexa, the Class is sporozoasida, Order is eucoccidiorida, Family is plasmodiidae, Genus being plasmodium and the species being falciparum, malariae, ovale, and vivax. Traditional Model Of Primary Health Care Essay Traditional model of primary health care that involves physician centered approaches are often inadequate for addressing the complex health needs that residents of low income neighborhoods encounter (Whelan et al., 2010). Therefore, if the Health Bus provides services that are culturally appropriate and addresses the needs of clients, it is anticipated that participants would be satisfied with the services and would use the Health Bus services. Evaluation may show that the Health Bus team is addressing other social determinants of health such as reducing social isolation among the clients. As seen in the study by Whelan that indicated that clients felt more socially inclusive as a result of chatting with staff and being treated with respect and dignity at the Health Bus in Toronto (Whelan et al., 2010). On the other hand, the evaluation may indicate that the Health Bus is not meeting the needs of residents in the neighborhood. This may be largely due to the high morbidity and mortality rates from a number of health conditions present in Saskatoon low income neighborhoods which the Health Bus services do not address. Therefore, it may be worthwhile to scale up the Health Bus services to provide a multidisciplinary health service for people living in Saskatoon s core neighborhoods by merging existing services with other equally important health services on the Health Bus such as mental health care. But why is there so much obesity on the United States and who is there to blame? We can go ahead and blame the fast food restaurants or we can blame the people itself. In my opinion the individuals are the ones to blame for the obesity in the United States because they rather have fast and easy food even though it s not healthy, individuals rather have cheaper meal, and because they don t exercise enough to burn the calories they consume throughout the day. The main point of fast food is to be fats, easy and convenient, but sometimes we humans abuse of that option that was given to us. The role of toys in gender socialization during childhood An infant is a mere passive learner. It is the children in their toddlers stage, who start to understand the basic gender typing and soon engage in gender segregation. A young female toddler learns at an early age that she needs to strive and become a good mother with nurturing character when she grows up. She acknowledges that this is what the society expects of her. Similarly, a boy on the other hand realizes that he should not play with girly toys and perfect his masculinity. In addition, according to a research study done by Robin Banerjee and Vicki Lintern (2000), it was found that the younger children aged 4 to 6 years old are more likely to conform and be rigid in the gender segregating activities than the older children. This just further shows how much the children have been conditioned to follow the gender norms of the society throughout their childhood; the society conditions a child majorly through storytelling, media, and parents, but more so by the choice of the toys they pick. They then had to try to find a partner who had another word that would pair up with theirs to make a new word. The children were very excited, but no one made the connection with compound words. Once they were paired up, each student said their word and their new word. At this point, they started guessing that we ere going to talk about compound nouns. I observed the children s excitement begin to diminish when they realized they were not just playing but learning too. I heard one of my boys whisper to a friend, She tricked us again. Yeah, she s always good for that, was the response. At this point, I asked the children if anyone could guess my favorite compound noun. Since this seemed like another game, the energy level began to rise. With no one guessing the correct answer, I told them my favorite compound noun was grasshopper. They began to laugh and wanted to know why. I told them it was because I loved to eat grasshopper pie. There were lots of laughs and kids shouting gross. I asked them if they had ever had grasshopper pie and of course, no one had. Throughout many of my lessons I use a cross curricular approach, so this lesson fit right in. • 36. The Term, Image Of God Introduction: The term image of God occurs three times in the Bible. In Genesis 1:26 27 and 9:6, we find out that man is created in the image of God. In 2 Cor. 4:4 we see the phrase used in reference to Jesus who is the image of God. There is no exact understanding of what the phrase means, but we can generalize. It would seem that the first two verses refer to God s character and attributes that are reflected in people. The term cannot be a reference to a physical appearance of God since Jesus says in John 4:24 that God is Spirit, and in Luke 24:39 Spirit does not have flesh and bones. Therefore, we can conclude that the image of God deals with humanity s reflection of God in such things as compassion, rationality, love, hatred, fellowship, etc. God exhibits all of these characteristics, as do people. Example 1: A good starting point is to respect others because God said to. For example, we read in the Bible that husbands and wives are to respect their spouse and the wife must respect her husband Ephesians 5:33. Husbands, in the same way are considerate as you live with your wives, and treat them with respect 1 Peter 3:7. The same principle applies to other relationships. All of us have seen the news tickers with vital headlines about people being devastated by droughts in Zimbabwe and unhygienic water in Sudan , but what is their government doing about it. AID paid for the building of eighteen warehouses, but five were not built, three were not finished, three collapsed, two had their roofs blown off, and three more quickly crumbled owing to serious structural deficiencies. Fifty four open wells with contaminated water were to be sanitized, but only nine were actually improved. A hundred mills for grinding grain were to be constructed; the project managers built and tested one mill, then gave up. The road improvement project repaired less than one quarter of the roads scheduled for upgrading. Isn t that marvelous? The prospect outlook for U.S foreign Aid abroad according to 2010 Budget for the U.S Government is as follow, there will be a 10 percent increase on U.S Foreign Aid and the State Department Budget will get a hefty 51.75 billion dollars in the fiscal year 2010. What the U.S State Department Budget goals are, an estimated $8 billion increase in the annual outlay to the International Monetary Fund, full funding for scheduled payments to the World Bank, plus a portion of the outstanding arrears to reinforce the U.S. commitment to play a leadership in these institutions. , Increases non military aid to Afghanistan and Pakistan, to counter the resurgence of the Taliban, Increased funding, at an unspecified amount, for global health programs, including AIDS ... His expression speaks that the Vera Wang engagement ring from the Love collection at Zales is the perfect ring to propose with. The man in the magazine sits in a black and white setting. He looks to be in deep thought. When it comes to buying an engagement ring, the major key point is the ring. $4,000: that is what the average American spends on an engagement ring. The cost of an engagement ring can be pricy, and what many fail to realize is that they are only paying for the name brand not the quality. The ad in the Cosmopolitan magazine implies that a perfect marriage is only perfect if one buys the Vera Wang Love collection ring from Zales. The word perfect is bolded in black, san serif letters in front of a white background. The word love is in capital letters, with the collection ring sitting in between the letters L and O on the bottom left hand corner of the magazine. • 43. The Importance Of Child Labor Laws Regulating Child Labor Across the Globe It is estimated that one in six of the world s children are working in unacceptable conditions and that is about 180 million children worldwide (Kilcullen 218). That is a great deal of children that are exposed to harm or exploitation. The opposing side believes that these poor countries need child labor to survive, that it is alright to pay children low wages for the work they do, and do not believe that schooling is as important as work. By regulating child labor laws, governments would be able to enforce safer working conditions, increase wages to meet the cost of living, and mandate education for better opportunities even though the opposing side disputes these reasons and stance. First of all, child labor laws should be regulated so that working conditions are safer. Children s health is diminishing because of the terrible working conditions. According to the International Labour Organization (ILO), 23 percent of all children between 5 and 17 years of age were economically active in the year 2000, and that About half of these children are estimated to do work that is likely to harm their health, safety, or moral development (Huebler 4). There is an enormous amount of children that are being harmed at work, and better regulations should be placed to stop this from happening. Children are suffering from injuries at work, and the accidents end up unreported. England s Health and Safety Executive says that there are 31 ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 44. The Twin Themes Of Guanxi Culture In Chinese Society The unique guanxi culture in Chinese society sets its societal framework distinctively apart from the West. Although guanxi is often portrayed as one s social network, it is much different from the so called connections in Western society. Guanxi is a special social phenomenon in the Chinese societal context. It has survived throughout history and continues to be a prevalent trend because it has its Chinese characteristics and attributes that are not found in other societies. The existence of guanxi in Chinese society originated from the core Chinese value of collectivism. Since centuries ago, Chinese society s group life and social organization has been based on collective interests. Familial sentiments and obligations, [which were regarded as ethical relations], extended from the family into society [later on] . The unofficial, informal networks of familial and kinship obligations provided the social support mechanisms through which peasant families survived in the economy of transition and hardships (Bian, 2001, p.276). The twin themes of guanxi and the sense of hierarchy mutually enhance each other because private networks thrive through the existence of the principle of giving and reciprocating, which highlights that there is a dependent on a more resourceful party in the relationship. The future of the twin themes in China will continue to be built upon mutual reliance and the looked upon generous favour giver in bridging the connections between multiple parties. ... • 45. Stress And The Human Brain When we encounter a threat that we feel we do not have the resources to deal with, a stimulus known as stressors are released and as a result, makes us stressed. These stressors activate the stress response system which sends a cascade of biological events thus releasing the stress hormones known as adrenaline and cortisol. The hormones cause our body to go into a Flight or Fight mode and can affect us either positively or negatively. By going into flight or fight mode our blood pressure, breathing, and heart rate increases meanwhile there is a decrease in digestive activity and the liver produces more glucose for energy. The topic of stress is a very popular area of study for those interested in human sciences. In particular, stress is often viewed through the scopes of a Psychologist, Sociologist and an Anthropologist. The Psychologist s perspective revolves around relations between stress and the human brain. One of the questions they might ask would be if an individual can be born with stress. The answer is sometimes but not often. Researches at the University of Edinburgh found that mother s wombs and babies brains contain a chemical protecting them from a mother s stress. However, if this chemical is unavailable, then the mothers are potentially exposing their unborn babies to stress. The study also discovered that the babies exposed to stress in the womb tend to be more susceptible to anxiety and depression. A psychologist may also be interested in studying ... • 46. Difference Between Chines For M-Form Organization M form refers to the unspecialization of subnational governments. It follows a territorial principle that regions are assigned to be responsible for similar task. For instance, province A is responsible for agricultural and steel ministry, which is same for the other provinces such as B and C. They can be seen as substitute for each other because they produce competitive goods. The administrative coordination is decentralized in M form, meaning that planning in individual level is important. As these regions need to make production decisions for their ministries, the autonomy of them is quite high, and they have the right to control and allocate recourses within their jurisdiction. These features can in fact be linked to the RDA system. In Maskin, Qian and Xu s research, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... So, any lagging behind only implies the low productivity of the regional official. With similar information structure, regional officials have the incentive to outperform the other rivalries. Regional competition can already serve as incentive scheme for local officials. For U form organizations, as regions are different from each other, they react differently towards industrial shocks. So, this provides an excuse for laggard that it is due to the differentiation regional conditions. With completely different information structures, there is no incentive for local officials to work hard under the U form. Seeing how M form and U form organizations can affect information structures, as a result determining incentives of local officials, the Maskin, Qian and Xu model can be used to prove it. Firstly, the model states that there are 2 types of incentives the absolute performance incentive and the relative performance incentive. The absolute performance incentive links the officials salary with his outputs, while the relative one links his salary to others output negatively, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
