Polar Bear Evolution Is a Continuing Story Essay
Polar Bear Evolution is a Continuing Story
The polar bear, the largest land carnivore in North America, one of the largest animals in the world
and a favorite at zoos worldwide, has, over the years, adapted to its harsh Arctic environment. The
appropriately named ursus maritimum or sea bear usually lives between 15 and 18 years in the wild
and spends most of its life on ice. It is the most recent of the eight bear species. The first polar bear
was a brown bear subspecies, with brown bear dimensions and brown bear teeth. The polar bear
evolution was rapid due to the small population and extreme pressure to survive. Even today, the polar
bear continues to evolve to better adapt to the harsh realities of Arctic life.
Today s polar bear ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Evolution of the polar bear also resulted in curved, needle sharp claws for clinging to ice and grabbing
prey. In addition, they developed large, partially webbed paws to assist with swimming. On land, their
enormous paws are useful for traveling across loose snow and the paws provide a bigger area to
spread their weight across on thin ice. Another adaptation is the polar bear s longer neck which is
needed to keep their head above water when swimming (Polar Bear Evolution 1995). All of these
characteristics, unique to the polar bear, have been part of its evolution.
The hearing and eyesight of polar bears is quite similar to human beings, however, over the years, the
polar bear developed an extraordinary sense of smell. According to Canadian Wildlife magazine, polar
bears can smell seals at ranges up to 32 kilometers (2002). They can smell through thick snow and
even through ice. This unique ability was an important part of the evolutionary process for survival in
Arctic conditions where vegetation is severely limited and food may be miles away.
The favorite food of the polar bear is the ringed seal, however if hungry enough, they will eat other
breeds of seals including bearded, harp, hooded and harbor. Polar bears will also eat beluga whales
and walrus (Field Guide 2002). At times, they will even eat eggs, crabs and kelp (Milius 1994). The
polar bear is strong enough to lift a beluga whale, several times its own weight, out of the water for a

Lupus Informative Speech Essay
Lupus is known as the cruel mystery in the world of disease/medicine. 1.5 million Americans are
currently diagnosed with Lupus, with the number possibly being a lot higher since it is one of the most
difficult diseases to diagnose in the WORLD (5 Million some form of Lupus)
B. Relevance: You might ask why should I care? How does this affect me or what is it exactly? Well
the truth is that most people don t realize they have Lupus. It so difficult to diagnose it is know as the
great imitator since it resembles a variety of other diseases.
C. Credibility statement: I may not look like an expert of any sort, but I have personally seen how this
disease takes over the body in my own grand mother.

3. Let me remind you that although these different types sound different, they all have the same
painful symptoms. It s difficult to pinpoint the exact cause of Lupus, because even healthy people
experience these symptoms.
Transition to 2nd main point: Now that we ve talked about what Lupus is and its different types, now
we re going to talk about its causes and symptoms. (Point #2)
B. Point #2: Sometimes the symptoms of Lupus help narrow down the possibility of whether one has
Lupus or not because there is not one single, sure fire cause of Lupus that is known.
1. Most experts can agree that there are a number of factors that cause it; the causes of Lupus are from
a combination of genetics and the environment. Sometimes people inherit what is called a genetic
predisposition which means that they inherit the chance to eventually develop it. It is very hard to
pinpoint one single source of cause that triggers Lupus like I mentioned before. Things in the
environment like UV rays from the sun, or unrelated things like an infection or a pregnancy can
trigger it. The symptoms of Lupus range from Extreme fatigue, headaches, photosensitivity,
pain/swollen joints, and one clear indicator being a butterfly shaped rash across the cheek or nose.

Taste Aversion through Classical Conditioning Essay
Taste Aversion through Classical Conditioning
Classical conditioning states that learning is a gradual process, that it is not possible for a subject to be
classically condition in only one trial. However, if you eat something and become sick from it, there is
a very good probability that you will develop a strong distaste for that food. This effect is known as
taste aversion, which has brought up many questions about classical conditioning.
It was Garcia and Koelling (1966) who studied the level of conditioning in rats using two conditioned
stimulus (CS), an audiovisual stimulus and a salty flavor added to drinking water. The two
unconditioned stimulus (UCS), a mild foot shock and a nausea producing drug. In the conditioning ...

It is seen that the rats promptly learned to associate a taste CS with a UCS of nausea but not with the
foot shock, where the audiovisual CS was conditioned to the foot shock but not to nausea (Walker
1995).
Taste aversion has violated three principles of classical conditioning, the first is that equal
associability of stimuli: any CS can be paired with any UCS. This has proven to be untrue because if it
were, the rats that became sick would have avoided both the salty water CS and the audiovisual CS.
The second principle violated is temporal contiguity: CS and UCS have to be presented close together
in time. Again untrue in this case because of such a long delay between drinking the salty water and
becoming sick. The third and final principle is that learning is gradual, but in this case only one trial
was enough.
The studies done by Garcia and Koelling have had much support from many other experiments done
in similar or the same situations. A study of ingestional aversion (Gregg, Melanie, Kittrell, Domjan
Amsel, 1978), where 12 and 15 day old rats were conditioned by infusing a .5% solution of saccharin
into the oral cavity. This was then followed by an oral infusion by the injection of lithium chloride. At
both ages, subjects that had saccharin exposure was followed by a lithium injection within 2 to 3
minutes drank less when the

The Decision Making And Judgement Calls
Most decisions are made with analysis, but some are judgment calls not susceptible to analysis due to
time or information constraints. Please write about a judgment call you ve made recently that couldn t
be analyzed. It can be a big or small one, but should focus on a business issue. What was the situation,
the alternatives you considered and evaluated, and your decision making process? Be sure to explain
why you chose the alternative you did relative to others considered. It feels as if we rarely have
situations with sufficient data to make decisions clear and absolute. Maybe those situations do occur
frequently, but because they are obvious, we don t even register them as decisions. Leadership hinges
on effective decision making and judgement calls. That includes gathering information for analysis
when available, but also recognizing how not to be caught in analysis paralysis. Effective leaders
constantly evaluate the situation, recognize the benefits, risks, and constraints and move forward.
Nothing impedes an organization more than inability to commit to a path forward. As Intel s facilities
organization worked to transition the entire structure of how we contracted and executed construction
projects on Intel s Ronler Acres campus, I made countless judgement calls. One in particular stands
out. I needed to decide if we would use cost based incentives as part of the contracting strategy and
execution processes, and if we decided to use them, how it would

A Long Way Gone By Ishmael Beah
Ishmael Beah s memoir, A long Way Gone, is very descriptive and has a very effective way of painting
a picture in the reader s mind of what he went through as a boy soldier. Throughout the memoir, Beah
used quite a few statements that impacted me emotionally, on a personal level. His vivid detail, word
choice and how personal, yet professional he kept his writing led me to understand how exactly the
war affected him, and everyone else who lived, and lives, in Sierra Leone. The first quote that stood
out to me was when Beah was hiding with Kaloko outside of a deserted village: I became frustrated
with living in fear. I felt as if I was always waiting for death to come to me, so I decided to go
somewhere where there was at least some peace. (46) I find his word choice in this section interesting,
due to the fact that he used frustrated instead of angry or upset. This could mean that he was becoming
more irritable or short, but not to an extent of anger where is is clear or violent. Also, this frustration
would seem like it would be commonplace in this time, since everyone in Sierra Leone is in danger
since the rebels were ruthlessly killing people and burning villages to the ground. This is part of the
rising action in the story, and helped to build up the idea that his patience with the ongoing war and its
violence was growing thin. Another thing that I noticed in this section of the book is that he said he
felt like he was waiting for death to come to him in a way,

Life Cycle Assessment Paper
LIFE CYCLE ASSESSMENT
Life cycle assessment is a tool for systematically analyzing environmental
performance of products or processes over their entire life cycle, including raw material
extraction, manufacturing, use, and end of life (EOL) disposal and recycling (Cabeza et.al.
2013). Hence, LCA is often considered a cradle to grave approach to the evaluation of
environmental impact.
The concept of life cycle studies has been developed over the years, mainly in the

materials used and wastes released into the environment throughout the life cycle. With the

Oil Drilling in the Arctic
The Coastal Plain of the Arctic Refuge is one of America s last great wilderness areas. It is home to
many animals such as polar bears, wolves, and grizzly bears, caribou herds, snow geese, musk oxen,
and dozens of other species. If your oil companies keep drilling in the Arctic, most of these beautiful
creatures will die, and some will become extinct.
The Coastal Plain is home to these animals. Annually, a herd of 129,000 caribou gather on the Coastal
Plain to bear and nurse their young. Polar bears rely on the Coastal Plain as their most important on
land denning habitat. Musk oxen, grizzly bears, wolves, wolverines, foxes, golden eagles, and snowy
owls gather here to hunt and den. In the fall, the Coastal Plain supports up to 300,000 ... Show more

Oil is very important in our world. But we should be able to come up with some alternate methods of
getting oil, or even better, alternate resources. There has already been an alternate way to produce oil
already invented. This process is known as the Fischer Tropsch process, which converts coal into
crude oil. It was a concept pioneered in Nazi Germany when imports of petroleum were restricted due
to war, and Germany found a method to extract oil from coal. It was known as Ersatz ( substitute in
German), and accounted for nearly half the total oil used in WWII by Germany. However, the process
was used only as a last resort as naturally occurring oil was much cheaper. As crude oil prices
increase, the cost of coal to oil conversion becomes comparatively cheaper. The method involves
converting high ash coal into synthetic oil in a multistage process. Ideally, a ton of coal produces
nearly 200 liters of crude, with by products ranging from tar to rare chemicals.
The solution to America s energy problems will be found in American ingenuity, not more oil. We
need to reduce our reliance on oil, and invent cleaner, renewable forms of power that will be just as
effective as oil. We already have many of the tools we need to accomplish this. For example, Detroit
has the technology right now to produce high performance hybrid cars, trucks and SUVs. If America
made the transition to these more efficient vehicles, far more oil would be saved

The Lost Of Idealism In Good Country People
The Lost Of Idealism
The definition of idealism is: In philosophy, Idealism is the group of philosophies which assert that
reality, or reality as we can know it, is fundamentally mental, mentally constructed. It can be very
troubling when we lose our sense of idealism. Human beings have at some point in time experienced
idealism in their lives. There are many stories and poems detailing the tragic loss of idealism that
people have encountered. A story that I will be focusing on is the Good Country People by Flannery O
Conner,(Diyanni 172), and a poem by Emily Dickinson After Great Pain ,Formal Feeling Come
(Diyanni 641). I will be comparing the pieces showing why I think Good Country People is better in
terms of portraying the theme losing your sense of idealism. In the short story Good Country People
the main character s name is Joy though we learn she changed it to Hulga. Hulga is a self proclaimed
nihilist, a person who believes in nothing and that nothing matters. It is her belief of nihilism is why
Hulga believes she is intellectually superior to everyone else around her including her mother Mrs.
Freeman. It s implied in the story that Hulga resents her mother to some extent which is part of the
reason why she legally changed her name from Joy to Hulga. When Hulga changed her name, O
Conner said, That it emotionally wounded the mother so deeply that she would never truly heal.
(Diyanni 178) Mrs. Hopewell seems to be well aware of Hulga resentment

Alcohol vs. Marijuana Essay
Alcohol vs. Marijuana
Alcohol and marijuana are two drugs commonly used and abused in the United States. Alcohol is the
number one abused drug, while marijuana is number one among illegal drugs. While alcohol remains
legal, and marijuana illegal, this does not necessarily mean that alcohol is better for you. There have
been many arguments where people suggest that marijuana should be legal because alcohol is more
deadly. On the other hand, there are alcoholics who would tell a pothead that smoking weed is bad for
you. Both substances are very bad for your health and should not be heavily used by anyone.
Marijuana has an immediate effect during and for about 2 hours after smoking. With alcohol, users

Alcohol impairs judgment and vision, and causes speeding and reckless driving. On the other hand,
there has been debate over the effect of marijuana on driving. One study by a computer software
company reported that people who smoked a small amount of marijuana drove faster and with fewer
collisions in a driving computer game. Another study said that marijuana causes abnormally slow
driving, proneness to distraction, and increases the time it takes to react, therefore greatly impairs your
ability to drive.
Long term effects of alcohol are liver cirrhosis, stomach ailments, impotence, vitamin deficiency,
increased stroke risk, decreased mental performance, heart disease, peptic ulcers, hepatitis, and
various forms of cancer. Alcohols effects on the brain are loss of coordination, poor judgment, slowed
reflexes, distorted vision, memory lapses, and even blackouts. Long term effects of marijuana are
mouth, throat, and lung cancer, increased heart rate, decrease in testosterone levels for men, increased
testosterone levels for women, diminished sexual pleasure, increased blood pressure, increased stress,
decreased motivation, and respiratory problems. The THC in marijuana damages the nerve cells in the
part of the brain where memories are formed, making it hard to remember things.
Both substances can lead to dependence, especially alcohol. If one abuses alcohol for to long and

Speech On Child Soldiers
Imagine you are in Syria, you are in a military base, drugged and there is a gun pointed to your head.
This is what child soldiers face every day. The issue of children being soldiers has dated back to World
War 1, when 250,000 children under 18 in Great Britain enlisted to fight. Today, there are 300,000
child soldiers around the world, fighting grown men with more experience, and many are dying. The
big issue with children being soldiers is the fact that they re being intoxicated with harmful drugs and
alcohol, their minds aren t fully developed to make educated decisions, and these children are
becoming soldiers against their will. On top of all of this, the child soldiers and their commanders are
committing war crimes. Examples of war crimes are willful killing, causing great suffering or serious
injury to body or health, and torture or inhumane treatment. In some parts of the world, people think
children being soldiers is okay, but it really isn t. Even though some children commit war crimes on
purpose, most do not; therefore, should be granted amnesty. The first reason why child soldiers should
be given amnesty is because they are being fed harmful drug concoctions to make them better killers
and their minds aren t developed enough to make good decisions. According to an interview of a
former child soldier, By the time he was 12, Beah s parents and two brothers were all dead. (Beah)

Juvenile Recidivism
Juvenile Recidivism Karen G Liberty University Abstract Recidivism is when someone returns to the
same behavior that they were previously doing (Unruh, Gau, amp; Waintrup, 2009). There are many
factors that raise the risk of juvenile recidivism such as single parenting, and even when the parents
become involved in drug use. When juveniles become high risk for recidivism it is important that the
adults whether it be the parents, teachers or any adult in authority step in to help the juvenile to make
better choices. By an adult taking an interest in the child it can prevent them from falling into a group
that becomes high risk. From 1984 through 1997 a 71% there was a rise in crimes committed by

16). When a mother is an active state of drug addiction it puts her child at a higher risk of
psychological problems. A study has shown that the children don t get medical treatment for the first
two years of their lives, which is only the start of the maltreatment that they suffer (Callaghan,
Crimmins, amp; Schweitzer, 2010, p. 223). Suchman (2010), states that Parenting problems observed
during the children s first three years of life include poor attachment, responsiveness, adaptability, and
structure juxtaposed with heightened physical activity, provocation, and intrusiveness (p. 483). What
the child gets or the lack thereof can be from the mothers own problems from her childhood
(Suchman, 2010, p. 484). When these mothers had poor parents themselves it gives them a distorted
view of how parenting should be. This many times can lead to the mothers abusiveness and neglect for
her own child plus the use of drugs on the mothers part (2010, p. 485). Poverty can play a role in
problems that children can face. The lacks of medical attention, poor academic success, along with
psychological difficulties are some of the challenges that these children face. The contributing factors
that they face are drug use, criminal behavior, and not doing well academically. When these youth are
constantly exposed to such unstable behaviors, it plays a vital role in the outcome of their own lives

Different Views Of Evangelical Christians And The Cultural...
We have been taking a look into the different views of Evangelical Christians and their approaches to
different types of media. Clifford G. Christians article Redemptive popular art: television and the
cultural mandate specifically deals with redemptive media. He approached this subject by asking three
questions of the show or film being questioned. He believed that this method should be used by
Christians to evaluate what kind of media they are actually consuming daily. In order to include all
types, he refers to all forms of media (television, movies, and broadcasts, etc.) as popular art. The first
question C. Christians says that Christians should ask of their media is, How does it portray human
life, or more strongly, what do they presume about human nature? (P. 14) Too often television shows
and movies are based around the premise that humans are simply biological beings. Even most
Christian productions become guilty of this. The creator s greatest legacy is a creative being. (P.15)
Humans are not simply animals, we were designed as special beings that do special things like cook
our own food and make decisions of right and wrong. This Naturalism that has been accepted by
society is a smaller part of what modern media has also made the world accept, materialism. In his
article Christians stated, Television sets are permanent salesmen . . . the average post high school
American has already seen more than 400,000 commercials. (P. 15) This number has

Human Papilloma Virus Type 16 and Type 18 Human Papilloma Virus (HPV) is a double stranded

proteins E6 and E7 on their cell wall which are associated to initiate cancer. Anogenital lesions
associated to HPV are divided into low risk types (6, 11, 34, 40, 42, and 43) and high risk types (16,
18, 31, 33, 35, 39, 45, 51, 52, 56, 58, 59, 68, 69, 73, and 82). Most of the low risk HPV infections are
asymptomatic and are not fatal, however infection to high risk HPV such as type 16 and 18 may cause
cervical, anal, vaginal, vulvar and penile cancer (Centre of Disease Control, 2012). Low risk HPV
generally cause warts on the skin surface which rarely develop into malignancy. Type 16 and 18 both
were originally isolated from cervical carcinomas of human body. More than 70% of human cervical
is due to the infection of either HPV 16 or 18. According to CDC, in 2008 it was estimated 11,070
cases of cervical cancer in United States and about 3,870 deaths due to cervical cancer. Higher
percentage of HPV persistent infection occurs by HPV 16 and the risk of getting cervical cancer due

Intel and AMD are one of the leading brands that manufacture processors choose the processor that

3. Motherboard. The motherboard acts as the torso to the brain (CPU) of the computer. The
motherboard is used to connect all the internal components of the computer to each other to make a
well functioning machine. Different processors have different kinds of socket sizes and only work
with the motherboards that support those sizes. The choice of your motherboard will depend on what
processor you have, how much space you need on your machine, the size of your case, how much
memory you are going to require, if you need a high end graphic card and how often will you upgrade
your machine.
4. Random Access Memory card (RAM). RAM is where the programs on your computer will store the
information they require to run. High end games and graphics require more RAM memory. If you do
not have enough RAM your programs will run slower than they should. A very important note while
installing RAM is that it should always be installed in matching pairs, for example if you want your
machine to have 8GB of RAM then install two 4GB sticks.
5. Hard Drive. Selecting a hard drive is a matter of personal opinion; your hard drive will store all
your personal programs, your operating system, and all of your data. So try and select a hard drive

Power And Power In Arthur Miller s The Crucible
Sometimes people can get lost in their ability to control others, your mom yelling at you to take out
the trash or maybe you pinning your younger sibling down in a wrestling match. It happens to us all,
even if you do not realize. It all comes with our ingrained desire for this thing we call power. This
desire plagues every society, those of the past and present. For example, in the 1960s an author named
Arthur Miller saw his society falling victim to this plague, so he wrote a play. Miller shows us
throughout The Crucible that power and the desire for it is a disease that spreads in communities and
cripples them, we see this through the actions of Abigail, Danforth, and Parris. Parris is a great
example of a ground zero patient, from the start of the play we see him claw for more and more
political and material power. Miller wastes no time showing Parris concern with his power and how
people perceive it. But if you trafficked with the spirits in the forest I must know it now, for surely my
enemies will, and they will ruin me with it (Miller 10). Here we see Parris worrying about his ego
while his daughter is lying ill on the bed next to him. This theme continues throughout the play and
becomes worse as we get to know him more. His concern with ego goes hand in hand with our idea of
power; with a tainted ego he will lose his power. His constant concern with these illusory concepts he
loses his path and begins to lead others down it, Like Danforth. Danforth

In the realm of political advertising, there are two main categories of ads, positive and negative

candidates campaign while negative campaigns usually focus on the opponent (Brader 2006). In a
study by Khan (1993), it was found that 65% of ads are candidate oriented while 35% are negative and
opponent oriented. When negative ads focus on the opponent, they ... Show more content on

Many people believe that negative ads promote voter engagement and turnout (Martin 2004). This
area of research has a lot of controversy and contradicting results. Some studies claim that voters are
mobilized by negative ads while others do not. One study performed by Freedman and Goldstein
(1999) show that negative ads do not reduce the number of voters that turnout to vote. Freedman and
Goldstein (1999) analyzed many old studies that looked at voter turnout and showed that the methods
that were used were inadequate. Newer research on voter mobilization and turnout have been showing
that voters are in fact mobilized by negative ads (Martin 2004). Martin (2004) also did research within
this area showing that voters are affected by negative ads and these effects do in fact increase voter
turnout. However, voter turnout only increases with negative ads until a certain threshold in which
voter turnout will decrease if passed (Martin 2004). In other words, negative ads will increase voter
turnout as long as it is below a certain threshold of

Examine the Main Characteristics of Conversion and...
A conversion is a religious experience that changes a persons beliefs from one religion to another,
there are three types of conversion with characteristics varying among them. Mystical experience
however is a more extreme form of experience, which is not just seeing hearing or feeling someone
but a deeper union with god.
Non volitional is a non voluntary conversion which is forced on someone. This usually means that the
person is hostile to the belief they later come to hold, as it is forced it is not sought after either. God is
usually involved by a direct action such as a voice or lights, which results in the conversion being
sudden. The scale of these conversions are massive as they are dramatic and spectacular due to the ...

This searching was carried out by Tolstoy himself without any intervening act by God, and was a
gradual process which took many weeks. As Tolstoy searched within himself for the answer,it was a
lesser change and happened on a low key scale including thoughts rather than sudden and dramatic
lights and voices.
The last type of conversion is self surrender and every conversion has an element of self surrender as
in every conversion there has to be a tipping point where the person gives in to the belief they will
become to believe otherwise it would not be a conversion.
C.S.Lewis conversion centered massively around self surrender, as for months and months he rejected
God who cam to him many nights with his beliefs. Over and over he rejected them beliefs until one
night C.S.Lewis reached his tipping point and accepted God coming to him. He got to his knees and
began to pray, he had finally accepted God s beliefs and teachings, which resulted in his conversion.
Mystical experience is on a deeper meaning then just feeling, seeing or hearing God. Mystical
experience involves a union with God, in which you become one with Him. In the Upanishads this
union with God is described as rivers flow to their rest in the ocean and there leave behind them name
and form, so the knower liberated from name and form, reaches the divine Person beyond the beyond.

The focus of the Board s decisions was on the attainment of educational goals, and in the enhancement
of the research reputation of the university. Success measures for educational initiatives were normally
expressed in terms of student achievements, enrollments, and applications to the university. Success
measures for research efforts were counts of the numbers of articles published and research grants
received. Financial measures of success, when they were used at all, mainly comprised summaries of
budgeted expenditures versus actual expenditures. With his MBA training and long business
experience, Allen Carpenter found these traditional methods of project evaluation incomplete at best,
and superficial at worst. Carpenter had set out to change the approach, and largely he had succeeded.

Rhetorical Analysis Response
After the calibration process, along with juxtaposing the current timed write to my prior rhetorical
analysis response, I now further comprehend my strengths and weaknesses as a writer. My
introduction paragraph has grown immensely in terms of my ability to fully express the topic which I
will address in response to the prompt. In my timed write, I open with a strong thesis statement in
which I expeditiously identify the main theme of the following speech as the severe lack of labor laws.
Although this is the paramount topic, I failed to address the underlying theme of women s rights used
by Florence Kelley to justify her view on labor laws while serving to strategically juxtapose the
violation of women s rights and the infringement faced ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Why: In the first rhetorical analysis timed write, I struggled to identify which rhetorical strategies
were used along with their connection to the theme of each article. In the sentence above, my writing
successfully identifies both the purpose and theme in a concise manner.
Revision: She implements anaphora along with asyndeton in the phrase men increase, women
increase, youth increase.. they are in commerce, in office, in manufacturing. Through her use of
literary devices, Kelley is able to identify the overarching issue of women s suffrage while
enlightening her audience as she expresses that once women are seen as strong, competent individuals,
then, and only then, will there be a respect for the American youth.
Reflection: In the following sentence, I am able to expand upon a major topic of discussion for
Women s Rights Activist Florence Kelley. It is difficult at first to identify the purpose behind the
rhetorical strategies used by the speaker, but upon further examination it is apparent how Kelley s
diction comprehensively contributes to the integrity of her argument as a

Video Games and Violence Speech
B.Z. Smith AP Lang 1 Feb. 2013 Videogames and Violence In today s society, the vast majority of
adolescents spend their free time indoors. Many of those hours are enjoyed playing video games, a
habit which teenagers will never hear the end of from their parents. These games will ruin you , they
say, It makes you angry and violent , they say, but does it really? Media often portrays videogames as
detrimental to mental health, and this topic is especially scrutinized today because of the sudden
popularity of the recent public mass shootings and gun violence; however, past and more recent
studies show that this is absolutely not true. In fact, the positives of gaming seem to massively
outweigh the negatives. Lately there has been ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Even the Supreme Court stands by that knowledge. In 2011 when California decided to ban minors
from purchasing games with mature content, the Supreme Court overruled that decision by 7:2, based
on the fact that it violated our first Amendment and that the judges saw no correlation between the
subjects, going so far as to state that the connection between exposure to violent video games and
harmful effects on children do not prove that such exposure causes minors to act aggressively. Any
demonstrated effects are both small and indistinguishable from effects produced by other media. (Suzy

something to take all the blame, and unfortunately, videogames are just here at the wrong place and

Analysis Of Internal Conflict, The Dark Battlefield
Internal Conflict, The Dark Battlefield
He hesitation or decision making issue within the characters mind is regarded as a suspense. In Just
Lather, That s All , the barber struggled with whether or not to kill the enemy who now infront of him.
In the end, the barber did not want blood on his hand. Meanwhile, in The sniper, two snipers who were
from different sides fought against each other in a war. While examining the corpse, the sniper
discovered that the enemy was his brother. Also The Black Cat narrates the process of the protagonist
from normal to committing a crime step by step. Internal conflict moves the story s plot, thought the
short stories Just Lather, That s All , The Sniper and The Black Cat respectively.
The border in Just Lather, That s all struggled with person against self which moves the plot. As the
barber thought over: No one deserves to have someone else make the sacrifice of becoming a murder.
What do you gain by it? Nothing. Others came along and still others, and the first ones kill the second
ones and they the next ones and it goes on like this until everything is a sea of blond (Tellez 3). When
faced cruel enemy, he should kill him. However, in the barber s view, murder is not the way to stop
violence and war. It only lets the violence continue, with killing the second, third and so on. This point
is the transition of the plot from thinking about murdering to hesitation. The second thought of the
border is that: I do not want

Ebola In The Hot Zone
Introduction
In the medical thriller, The Hot Zone, Preston states that flawed decisions in outbreak situations are a
threat to human survival. Ebola is known by many to be lethal and in recent years, has caused an
interest within the public. Many in the United States have shown fear towards the threat of Ebola in
the country, which has caused many to also research the effects of Ebola on the human body.
Moreover, Ebola poses a threat to the safety of medical professionals; doctors must be able to safely
help patients without high risk of exposure to the hot virus. Of equal importance, medical
professionals involved with the treatment of hot viruses must be trained properly in order to
effectively make decisions and protect all patients and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Preston (1995) argues, [a] hot virus from the rainforest lives within a twenty four hour plane flight
from every city on earth (p. 16). In addition, only one host is needed to spread the hot virus into a
massive outbreak in any part of the world, and such an outbreak could plunge the global population
into oblivion. To further explain, Preston (1995) draws the conclusion that the airline routes that tie
earth s cities together are a web, and once a hot virus enters the web, it can be delivered to far corners
of the earth in one day (p. 16). Simple and flawed decisions by humans can make this frightening idea

Sustainable Development Goals Twelve s Targets
Sustainable Development Goal Twelve s targets can be evaluated by their potential measurability,
however, key terms in the target wording lack quantifiable definitions making measurement difficult.
For example, target 12.2 refers to the sustainable management and efficient use of natural resources
(emphasis added) (UN DESA, 2015). While sustainability conceptually encapsulates meeting the
needs of today without compromising the needs of tomorrow, in practical application, quantifying any
population s need for natural resources is very difficult (GEOG 200, Sept 17, Slide 17/18). Though
efficiency is easier to quantify the fraction of useful work done out of total energy supplied measuring
the efficient use of natural resources is a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Food waste can be measured at both the consumer and producer levels, and other waste production is
measured by sector. Target 12.3 also contains the numerical goal of halving as a benchmark for
success of the target. The success of 12.5 would be determined on the basis of what the numerical
definition of substantially entailed.
Part Two: Is it Already Measured?
I have omitted a discussion of target 12.1 since its measurement would require an extensive
evaluation of the contents of the 10YFP.
The following section will present evidence of attempts at measurement for targets 12.2 through 12.8
inclusively. It should be noted that there is no evidence of current attempts to measure the topics
related to 12.6, 12.7, or 12.8.
As stated, the measurement of 12.2 is complex and sector specific. There have nonetheless been
efforts by the United Nations to develop natural resource accounting frameworks, as evidenced by the
Handbook of National Accounting: Integrated Environmental and Economic Accounting 2003 or
SEEA 2003. SEEA 2003 provides a model for quantifiable sustainability (SEEA, 2003, p. 34).
Applications of SEEA 2003 accounting models are limited, however; for instance, only 36 countries
have standardized their measurement of sustainable and efficient water usage on the basis of the SEEA
2003 accounting system (GAO, 2007, p. 9).
The release of chemicals into the environment (12.4) is frequently measured. The most extensive
source of measurement is the

The Effect Of Tidal Power On The Environment
In the world today, we consume ungodly amounts of fossil fuels. Many choose to ignore that we will
indeed run out of these fuels, as for now they are here and they are cheap. So what happens when they
run out? We will need to rely on alternative forms of energy. There are several types of alternative
energy sources such as wind, geothermal, solar, and tidal. Of these in the current day, the easiest one
to predict is tidal power. Tidal power, in Tom Marsik s words, is in its infant stage of development.
Tom Marsik is a professor at the University of Alaska Fairbanks Bristol Bay Campus who runs the
Sustainable Energy Program and has a doctorate in physics. From his description, it is not cost
effective for many places in its current state. The technology is there, but it has not been refined and
mastered. All this considered, tidal power should be a technology that continues to be developed
because it is predictable, renewable, and highly efficient.
Essentially, tidal power works like wind power in the way that it is designed. It is a submerged fan by
the looks, and its rotor is connected to a generator that creates electricity. When the tides are moving
both in and out fast enough to rotate the blades on a tidal powered generator, electricity is generated.
Pretty simple right? The concise answer is yes, but the concerns are there as well. To begin with,
electricity and water do not go together very well. To make a machine that generates electricity
underwater gets to be

Momentum is a phenomenon shows that well performed stocks continue to outperform their peers
while poor performed stocks continue to underperform. Thus, more mutual funds use this powerful

Traditional momentum strategy
According to the case, there were four differences between AQR s retail momentum strategy and
traditional momentum strategy.
1. The retail strategy can only take long positions on winner stocks, while the traditional one can also
short the loser stocks to maximize returns.
2. As an open ended mutual fund, AQR has to maintain certain level of liquidity and be ready to return
capital to investors when they demand, while the traditional strategy used by hedge funds can require
a lock up period and a long redemption notice period.
3. AQR s strategy faced more stringent reporting and compensation requirements.
4. AQR s strategy was required by regulators to be sufficiently diversified among assets, industries as
well as companies. And to compare the profitability of both strategies, we estimated the expected

of the story is a princess who found this frog who was cursed by an evil witch and decided to help it.
Though there are many renditions of Princess and the Frog that tell the tale of the cursed frog and the

  • 2. Polar Bear Evolution Is a Continuing Story Essay Polar Bear Evolution is a Continuing Story The polar bear, the largest land carnivore in North America, one of the largest animals in the world and a favorite at zoos worldwide, has, over the years, adapted to its harsh Arctic environment. The appropriately named ursus maritimum or sea bear usually lives between 15 and 18 years in the wild and spends most of its life on ice. It is the most recent of the eight bear species. The first polar bear was a brown bear subspecies, with brown bear dimensions and brown bear teeth. The polar bear evolution was rapid due to the small population and extreme pressure to survive. Even today, the polar bear continues to evolve to better adapt to the harsh realities of Arctic life. Today s polar bear ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Evolution of the polar bear also resulted in curved, needle sharp claws for clinging to ice and grabbing prey. In addition, they developed large, partially webbed paws to assist with swimming. On land, their enormous paws are useful for traveling across loose snow and the paws provide a bigger area to spread their weight across on thin ice. Another adaptation is the polar bear s longer neck which is needed to keep their head above water when swimming (Polar Bear Evolution 1995). All of these characteristics, unique to the polar bear, have been part of its evolution. The hearing and eyesight of polar bears is quite similar to human beings, however, over the years, the polar bear developed an extraordinary sense of smell. According to Canadian Wildlife magazine, polar bears can smell seals at ranges up to 32 kilometers (2002). They can smell through thick snow and even through ice. This unique ability was an important part of the evolutionary process for survival in Arctic conditions where vegetation is severely limited and food may be miles away. The favorite food of the polar bear is the ringed seal, however if hungry enough, they will eat other breeds of seals including bearded, harp, hooded and harbor. Polar bears will also eat beluga whales and walrus (Field Guide 2002). At times, they will even eat eggs, crabs and kelp (Milius 1994). The polar bear is strong enough to lift a beluga whale, several times its own weight, out of the water for a meal ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Lupus Informative Speech Essay Lupus is known as the cruel mystery in the world of disease/medicine. 1.5 million Americans are currently diagnosed with Lupus, with the number possibly being a lot higher since it is one of the most difficult diseases to diagnose in the WORLD (5 Million some form of Lupus) B. Relevance: You might ask why should I care? How does this affect me or what is it exactly? Well the truth is that most people don t realize they have Lupus. It so difficult to diagnose it is know as the great imitator since it resembles a variety of other diseases. C. Let me remind you that although these different types sound different, they all have the same painful symptoms. It s difficult to pinpoint the exact cause of Lupus, because even healthy people experience these symptoms. Transition to 2nd main point: Now that we ve talked about what Lupus is and its different types, now we re going to talk about its causes and symptoms. (Point #2) B. Point #2: Sometimes the symptoms of Lupus help narrow down the possibility of whether one has Lupus or not because there is not one single, sure fire cause of Lupus that is known. 1. Most experts can agree that there are a number of factors that cause it; the causes of Lupus are from a combination of genetics and the environment. Sometimes people inherit what is called a genetic predisposition which means that they inherit the chance to eventually develop it. It is very hard to pinpoint one single source of cause that triggers Lupus like I mentioned before. Things in the environment like UV rays from the sun, or unrelated things like an infection or a pregnancy can trigger it. The symptoms of Lupus range from Extreme fatigue, headaches, photosensitivity, pain/swollen joints, and one clear indicator being a butterfly shaped rash across the cheek or nose. 2. Makover, M. • 4. Taste Aversion through Classical Conditioning Essay Taste Aversion through Classical Conditioning Classical conditioning states that learning is a gradual process, that it is not possible for a subject to be classically condition in only one trial. However, if you eat something and become sick from it, there is a very good probability that you will develop a strong distaste for that food. This effect is known as taste aversion, which has brought up many questions about classical conditioning. It was Garcia and Koelling (1966) who studied the level of conditioning in rats using two conditioned stimulus (CS), an audiovisual stimulus and a salty flavor added to drinking water. The two unconditioned stimulus (UCS), a mild foot shock and a nausea producing drug. In the conditioning ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It is seen that the rats promptly learned to associate a taste CS with a UCS of nausea but not with the foot shock, where the audiovisual CS was conditioned to the foot shock but not to nausea (Walker 1995). Taste aversion has violated three principles of classical conditioning, the first is that equal associability of stimuli: any CS can be paired with any UCS. This has proven to be untrue because if it were, the rats that became sick would have avoided both the salty water CS and the audiovisual CS. The second principle violated is temporal contiguity: CS and UCS have to be presented close together in time. Again untrue in this case because of such a long delay between drinking the salty water and becoming sick. The third and final principle is that learning is gradual, but in this case only one trial was enough. The studies done by Garcia and Koelling have had much support from many other experiments done in similar or the same situations. A study of ingestional aversion (Gregg, Melanie, Kittrell, Domjan Amsel, 1978), where 12 and 15 day old rats were conditioned by infusing a .5% solution of saccharin into the oral cavity. This was then followed by an oral infusion by the injection of lithium chloride. At both ages, subjects that had saccharin exposure was followed by a lithium injection within 2 to 3 minutes drank less when the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. The Decision Making And Judgement Calls Most decisions are made with analysis, but some are judgment calls not susceptible to analysis due to time or information constraints. Please write about a judgment call you ve made recently that couldn t be analyzed. It can be a big or small one, but should focus on a business issue. What was the situation, the alternatives you considered and evaluated, and your decision making process? Be sure to explain why you chose the alternative you did relative to others considered. It feels as if we rarely have situations with sufficient data to make decisions clear and absolute. Maybe those situations do occur frequently, but because they are obvious, we don t even register them as decisions. Leadership hinges on effective decision making and judgement calls. That includes gathering information for analysis when available, but also recognizing how not to be caught in analysis paralysis. Effective leaders constantly evaluate the situation, recognize the benefits, risks, and constraints and move forward. Nothing impedes an organization more than inability to commit to a path forward. As Intel s facilities organization worked to transition the entire structure of how we contracted and executed construction projects on Intel s Ronler Acres campus, I made countless judgement calls. One in particular stands out. I needed to decide if we would use cost based incentives as part of the contracting strategy and execution processes, and if we decided to use them, how it would ... • 6. A Long Way Gone By Ishmael Beah Ishmael Beah s memoir, A long Way Gone, is very descriptive and has a very effective way of painting a picture in the reader s mind of what he went through as a boy soldier. Throughout the memoir, Beah used quite a few statements that impacted me emotionally, on a personal level. His vivid detail, word choice and how personal, yet professional he kept his writing led me to understand how exactly the war affected him, and everyone else who lived, and lives, in Sierra Leone. The first quote that stood out to me was when Beah was hiding with Kaloko outside of a deserted village: I became frustrated with living in fear. I felt as if I was always waiting for death to come to me, so I decided to go somewhere where there was at least some peace. (46) I find his word choice in this section interesting, due to the fact that he used frustrated instead of angry or upset. This could mean that he was becoming more irritable or short, but not to an extent of anger where is is clear or violent. Also, this frustration would seem like it would be commonplace in this time, since everyone in Sierra Leone is in danger since the rebels were ruthlessly killing people and burning villages to the ground. This is part of the rising action in the story, and helped to build up the idea that his patience with the ongoing war and its violence was growing thin. Another thing that I noticed in this section of the book is that he said he felt like he was waiting for death to come to him in a way, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 9. Oil Drilling in the Arctic The Coastal Plain of the Arctic Refuge is one of America s last great wilderness areas. It is home to many animals such as polar bears, wolves, and grizzly bears, caribou herds, snow geese, musk oxen, and dozens of other species. If your oil companies keep drilling in the Arctic, most of these beautiful creatures will die, and some will become extinct. The Coastal Plain is home to these animals. Annually, a herd of 129,000 caribou gather on the Coastal Plain to bear and nurse their young. Polar bears rely on the Coastal Plain as their most important on land denning habitat. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Oil is very important in our world. But we should be able to come up with some alternate methods of getting oil, or even better, alternate resources. There has already been an alternate way to produce oil already invented. This process is known as the Fischer Tropsch process, which converts coal into crude oil. It was a concept pioneered in Nazi Germany when imports of petroleum were restricted due to war, and Germany found a method to extract oil from coal. It was known as Ersatz ( substitute in German), and accounted for nearly half the total oil used in WWII by Germany. However, the process was used only as a last resort as naturally occurring oil was much cheaper. As crude oil prices increase, the cost of coal to oil conversion becomes comparatively cheaper. The method involves converting high ash coal into synthetic oil in a multistage process. Ideally, a ton of coal produces nearly 200 liters of crude, with by products ranging from tar to rare chemicals. The solution to America s energy problems will be found in American ingenuity, not more oil. We need to reduce our reliance on oil, and invent cleaner, renewable forms of power that will be just as effective as oil. We already have many of the tools we need to accomplish this. For example, Detroit has the technology right now to produce high performance hybrid cars, trucks and SUVs. If America made the transition to these more efficient vehicles, far more oil would be saved ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 10. The Lost Of Idealism In Good Country People The Lost Of Idealism The definition of idealism is: In philosophy, Idealism is the group of philosophies which assert that reality, or reality as we can know it, is fundamentally mental, mentally constructed. It can be very troubling when we lose our sense of idealism. Human beings have at some point in time experienced idealism in their lives. There are many stories and poems detailing the tragic loss of idealism that people have encountered. A story that I will be focusing on is the Good Country People by Flannery O Conner,(Diyanni 172), and a poem by Emily Dickinson After Great Pain ,Formal Feeling Come (Diyanni 641). I will be comparing the pieces showing why I think Good Country People is better in terms of portraying the theme losing your sense of idealism. In the short story Good Country People the main character s name is Joy though we learn she changed it to Hulga. Hulga is a self proclaimed nihilist, a person who believes in nothing and that nothing matters. It is her belief of nihilism is why Hulga believes she is intellectually superior to everyone else around her including her mother Mrs. Freeman. It s implied in the story that Hulga resents her mother to some extent which is part of the reason why she legally changed her name from Joy to Hulga. When Hulga changed her name, O Conner said, That it emotionally wounded the mother so deeply that she would never truly heal. • 11. Alcohol vs. Marijuana Essay Alcohol vs. Marijuana Alcohol and marijuana are two drugs commonly used and abused in the United States. Alcohol is the number one abused drug, while marijuana is number one among illegal drugs. While alcohol remains legal, and marijuana illegal, this does not necessarily mean that alcohol is better for you. There have been many arguments where people suggest that marijuana should be legal because alcohol is more deadly. On the other hand, there are alcoholics who would tell a pothead that smoking weed is bad for you. Both substances are very bad for your health and should not be heavily used by anyone. Marijuana has an immediate effect during and for about 2 hours after smoking. With alcohol, users feel slight effects ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Alcohol impairs judgment and vision, and causes speeding and reckless driving. On the other hand, there has been debate over the effect of marijuana on driving. One study by a computer software company reported that people who smoked a small amount of marijuana drove faster and with fewer collisions in a driving computer game. Another study said that marijuana causes abnormally slow driving, proneness to distraction, and increases the time it takes to react, therefore greatly impairs your ability to drive. Long term effects of alcohol are liver cirrhosis, stomach ailments, impotence, vitamin deficiency, increased stroke risk, decreased mental performance, heart disease, peptic ulcers, hepatitis, and various forms of cancer. Alcohols effects on the brain are loss of coordination, poor judgment, slowed reflexes, distorted vision, memory lapses, and even blackouts. Long term effects of marijuana are mouth, throat, and lung cancer, increased heart rate, decrease in testosterone levels for men, increased testosterone levels for women, diminished sexual pleasure, increased blood pressure, increased stress, decreased motivation, and respiratory problems. • 12. Speech On Child Soldiers Imagine you are in Syria, you are in a military base, drugged and there is a gun pointed to your head. This is what child soldiers face every day. The issue of children being soldiers has dated back to World War 1, when 250,000 children under 18 in Great Britain enlisted to fight. Today, there are 300,000 child soldiers around the world, fighting grown men with more experience, and many are dying. The big issue with children being soldiers is the fact that they re being intoxicated with harmful drugs and alcohol, their minds aren t fully developed to make educated decisions, and these children are becoming soldiers against their will. On top of all of this, the child soldiers and their commanders are committing war crimes. Examples of war crimes are willful killing, causing great suffering or serious injury to body or health, and torture or inhumane treatment. In some parts of the world, people think children being soldiers is okay, but it really isn t. Even though some children commit war crimes on purpose, most do not; therefore, should be granted amnesty. The first reason why child soldiers should be given amnesty is because they are being fed harmful drug concoctions to make them better killers and their minds aren t developed enough to make good decisions. There are many factors that raise the risk of juvenile recidivism such as single parenting, and even when the parents become involved in drug use. When juveniles become high risk for recidivism it is important that the adults whether it be the parents, teachers or any adult in authority step in to help the juvenile to make better choices. By an adult taking an interest in the child it can prevent them from falling into a group that becomes high risk. From 1984 through 1997 a 71% there was a rise in crimes committed by juveniles that were also violent offences ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... 16). When a mother is an active state of drug addiction it puts her child at a higher risk of psychological problems. A study has shown that the children don t get medical treatment for the first two years of their lives, which is only the start of the maltreatment that they suffer (Callaghan, Crimmins, amp; Schweitzer, 2010, p. 223). Suchman (2010), states that Parenting problems observed during the children s first three years of life include poor attachment, responsiveness, adaptability, and structure juxtaposed with heightened physical activity, provocation, and intrusiveness (p. 483). What the child gets or the lack thereof can be from the mothers own problems from her childhood (Suchman, 2010, p. 484). When these mothers had poor parents themselves it gives them a distorted view of how parenting should be. This many times can lead to the mothers abusiveness and neglect for her own child plus the use of drugs on the mothers part (2010, p. 485). Poverty can play a role in problems that children can face. The lacks of medical attention, poor academic success, along with psychological difficulties are some of the challenges that these children face. The contributing factors that they face are drug use, criminal behavior, and not doing well academically. When these youth are constantly exposed to such unstable behaviors, it plays a vital role in the outcome of their own lives that ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 14. Different Views Of Evangelical Christians And The Cultural... We have been taking a look into the different views of Evangelical Christians and their approaches to different types of media. Clifford G. Christians article Redemptive popular art: television and the cultural mandate specifically deals with redemptive media. He approached this subject by asking three questions of the show or film being questioned. He believed that this method should be used by Christians to evaluate what kind of media they are actually consuming daily. In order to include all types, he refers to all forms of media (television, movies, and broadcasts, etc.) as popular art. The first question C. Christians says that Christians should ask of their media is, How does it portray human life, or more strongly, what do they presume about human nature? (P. 14) Too often television shows and movies are based around the premise that humans are simply biological beings. Even most Christian productions become guilty of this. The creator s greatest legacy is a creative being. (P.15) Humans are not simply animals, we were designed as special beings that do special things like cook our own food and make decisions of right and wrong. This Naturalism that has been accepted by society is a smaller part of what modern media has also made the world accept, materialism. In his article Christians stated, Television sets are permanent salesmen . . . the average post high school American has already seen more than 400,000 commercials. (P. 15) This number has ... There are many genotypes HPV and some of them are oncogenic. They have envelope proteins E6 and E7 on their cell wall which are associated to initiate cancer. Anogenital lesions associated to HPV are divided into low risk types (6, 11, 34, 40, 42, and 43) and high risk types (16, 18, 31, 33, 35, 39, 45, 51, 52, 56, 58, 59, 68, 69, 73, and 82). Most of the low risk HPV infections are asymptomatic and are not fatal, however infection to high risk HPV such as type 16 and 18 may cause cervical, anal, vaginal, vulvar and penile cancer (Centre of Disease Control, 2012). Low risk HPV generally cause warts on the skin surface which rarely develop into malignancy. Type 16 and 18 both were originally isolated from cervical carcinomas of human body. More than 70% of human cervical is due to the infection of either HPV 16 or 18. According to CDC, in 2008 it was estimated 11,070 cases of cervical cancer in United States and about 3,870 deaths due to cervical cancer. Higher percentage of HPV persistent infection occurs by HPV 16 and the risk of getting cervical cancer due the progression of disease is higher for HPV 16 and 18 and 45 (Tino F. Schwarz, 2008). Power And Power In Arthur Miller s The Crucible Sometimes people can get lost in their ability to control others, your mom yelling at you to take out the trash or maybe you pinning your younger sibling down in a wrestling match. It happens to us all, even if you do not realize. It all comes with our ingrained desire for this thing we call power. This desire plagues every society, those of the past and present. For example, in the 1960s an author named Arthur Miller saw his society falling victim to this plague, so he wrote a play. Miller shows us throughout The Crucible that power and the desire for it is a disease that spreads in communities and cripples them, we see this through the actions of Abigail, Danforth, and Parris. Parris is a great example of a ground zero patient, from the start of the play we see him claw for more and more political and material power. Miller wastes no time showing Parris concern with his power and how people perceive it. But if you trafficked with the spirits in the forest I must know it now, for surely my enemies will, and they will ruin me with it (Miller 10). Here we see Parris worrying about his ego while his daughter is lying ill on the bed next to him. This theme continues throughout the play and becomes worse as we get to know him more. C.S.Lewis conversion centered massively around self surrender, as for months and months he rejected God who cam to him many nights with his beliefs. Many choose to ignore that we will indeed run out of these fuels, as for now they are here and they are cheap. So what happens when they run out? We will need to rely on alternative forms of energy. There are several types of alternative energy sources such as wind, geothermal, solar, and tidal. Of these in the current day, the easiest one to predict is tidal power. Tidal power, in Tom Marsik s words, is in its infant stage of development. Tom Marsik is a professor at the University of Alaska Fairbanks Bristol Bay Campus who runs the Sustainable Energy Program and has a doctorate in physics. From his description, it is not cost effective for many places in its current state. The technology is there, but it has not been refined and mastered. All this considered, tidal power should be a technology that continues to be developed because it is predictable, renewable, and highly efficient. Essentially, tidal power works like wind power in the way that it is designed. It is a submerged fan by the looks, and its rotor is connected to a generator that creates electricity. When the tides are moving both in and out fast enough to rotate the blades on a tidal powered generator, electricity is generated. Pretty simple right?
