Why Should We Make Decisions On Experiences That They...
able to make decisions on experiences that they themselves could not understand. This really raised a
lot of questions to me about who is in power and how big of a problem it is the those in power are not
more diverse. We have struggled in society and have imprisoned so many behind stone walls of
racism, sexism, and homophobia (Rudacille 140).
It also raised awareness that the very same acts done by heterosexual couples were acceptable, and not
punishable in the confines of the home, but that gays were not even safe in private. After the decision
in Lawrence v Texas made by the U.S. Supreme Court, it was understood that the gay community had
a chance to move forward into the light even more, and that their fight for freedom would not
disappear. By declaring that it is unconstitutional to make arrests against gays in the home, it also
declared that homosexuals should have the same rights as everyone else. It made it more acceptable
and brought homosexuality into the light to where it was okay to talk about and dispute. Not only was
it just an invasion of liberty, as the Court thought , but also the case enforced a bad law, a Homosexual
Status Law, which made being gay a crime.
In writing this paper, I went back to the very beginning of our discussions, and looked at my very first
discussion post on the Stonewall Uprising. I realized, that while we did do a lot of court case focused
work, that I still learned a lot even outside of these cases. I wanted to post both my

Were Lewis And Clark Respectful To The Native Americans...
Were Lewis and Clark respectful to the Native Americans they met on their journey? The expedition
of Lewis and Clark was a landmarking event in American history, but its significance goes beyond just
the land they discovered. The Lewis and Clark Expedition was put forward so the two would be able to
see and map out western America in search of new trade routes and passages. Lewis and Clark would
have doubtfully survived had it not been with the aid of the Indians they met on their travels. Upon
their controversial meetings with several Indian groups, Lewis and Clark were not respectful to the
Americans they met on their journey. The controversial messages behind the peace metals, the

As requested by Jefferson, Lewis and Clark would give medicine to the Indians, as disease was very
common among them. They were able to complete many trades with Indian groups, giving them
things such as guns and receiving food and information along with other resources for their
expedition. Sacagawea was a very helpful guide and interpreter for Lewis and Clark. She was a very
important contributing aid to the success of the expedition. The relationship between Lewis and Clark
and Sacagawea and her family was an example of respect between the two groups. After the help of
Sacagawea, Lewis and Clark even persuaded them to give them Sacagawea s son so they could put
him in United States schooling, and he could grow up healthy. Lewis and Clark did follow through
with this promise. Lewis and Clark were respectful at times to the Indians, but the two as well

American Indian Movement Essay
American Indian Movement: Activism and Repression Native Americans have felt distress from
societal and governmental interactions for hundreds of years. American Indian protests against these
pressures date back to the colonial period. Broken treaties, removal policies, acculturation, and
assimilation have scarred the indigenous societies of the United States. These policies and the
continued oppression of the native communities produced an atmosphere of heightened tension.
Governmental pressure for assimilation and their apparent aim to destroy cultures, communities, and
identities through policies gave the native people a reason to fight. The unanticipated consequence
was the subsequent creation of a pan American Indian identity ... Show more content on

Shortly, after fulfilling local obligations the AIM began to address the state and national arenas. Indian
youth from colleges, reservations and urban centers began to speak out against treatments they were
receiving, while advocating self government and autonomy. The AIM focus took a shift from
socioeconomic discrimination against Indians towards the government s policies and programs. This
identity based movement began to receive extreme support from returning Native American Vietnam
veterans. Why was I fighting to uphold a U.S. treaty commitment halfway around the world when the
United States was violating its treaty commitments to my own people and about 300 other Indian
Nations? asked one Creek Cherokee veteran. I was fighting the wrong people, pure and simple
(Calloway 437). The ethically comprised members of the AIM started to raise their concerns through
radical events to attract public and governmental action on their behalf. The occupation of Alcatraz
Island played a large role in establishing new methods in the Native Americans fight for recognition
and change. As the growing identity was being formed in the indigenous society in the United States
an event helped to fuel the Alcatraz occupation. On October 9th, of 1969 the American Indian Center

Alexander Graham Bell Essay
Alexander Graham Bell Works Cited Missing The importance of Alexander Graham Bell on today s
society is visible, or rather audible, every day and everywhere. First and foremost, Alexander Graham
Bell was a prolific teacher of the deaf. This is what he considered to be his true life s work, but only
one of the many important things he did. Through his research of speech and sound, and his creative
mind, he would become one of the most influential inventors in modern history. His own definition of
an inventor, A man who looks upon the world and is not contented with things as they are. He wants to
improve whatever he sees, he wants to benefit the world. suits him well. Every thing that he did had

Early in 1874 Bell met Thomas A. Watson, a young machinist at a Boston electrical shop. Watson
became Bell s indispensable assistant, bringing to Bell s experiments the crucial ingredient that had
been lacking, his technical expertise in electrical engineering. Together the two men spent endless
hours experimenting (Paschoff 43,44). Although Bell formed the basic concept of the telephone using
a varying but unbroken electric current to transmit the varying sound waves of human speech, in the
summer of 1874, Hubbard insisted that the young inventor focus his efforts on the harmonic telegraph
instead. Bell wanted to continue his work on the telephone but he complied. When he patented one of
his telegraph designs in February 1875, he found that Elisha Gray had patented a multiple telegraph
two days earlier. Greatly discouraged, Bell consulted in Washington with the elderly Joseph Henry,
who urged Bell to pursue his germ of a great invention speech transmission (Grosvenor and Wesson
55). Back in Boston, Bell and Watson continued to work on the harmonic telegraph, but still with the
telephone in mind. By accident on a June day in 1875, an intermittent transmitter produced a steady
current and transmitted sound, when Watson tightened or loosened a particular screw it produced a
sound that would vary in pitch. Bell had proof of his 1874 idea; he quickly

INTRODUCTION
Background of the Study
Personal hygiene has always been a part of a person s daily activities but what is really the depth of an
individual s understanding of why personal hygiene should be practiced every day? One s behavior
towards practicing personal hygiene greatly aids in the prevention of diseases; thus, an optimal
component to the well being of people. More studies have also depicted the health benefits of
improved hygiene (Fewtrell et al. 2005) Boot and Cairncross (1993) mentions hand washing and nail
cleaning; washing of the face; bathing; hygiene post defecation; and washing of towels, beddings,
clothes, etc. before use as part of personal hygiene. At an early age, children are educated about ...

After the grouping, the researchers will take the tally result of each item per group of variable using
table showing the tally of each item per variable subdivision. They will then compare the results
basing on the three (3) variables stated to know the difference of level of understanding on basic
hygiene practices of the respondents and see the significance among the said variables using
formulated table to see clear comparison result. If the result is not coinciding with the stated
hypothesis of the study, the researchers will re distribute the questionnaires to the respondents; will be
answered by the respondents, and will be gathered by the researchers for re tallying and re comparing.
If the result is or is not coinciding with the stated hypothesis, the researchers will then make a
summary, conclusion and recommendations basing on the gathered results.
Conceptual Framework
This study will base on the following conceptual framework. This will be the guideline of the
researchers through this study. The flow of the study depends on this framework.
Scopes and Limitation of the Study

Pros And Cons Of Tasers
In this current period of time, police men and women have an even bigger target on their backs
compared to times of the past. In the past year, we as students have had a very unique opportunity as
criminal justice majors to see some interesting events unfold, such as the riots in Ferguson, Missouri, a
number of allegedly wrongful deaths done by the police s hands, to the riots in Baltimore. With all of
this happening, I feel that the use of technology and militarization is beneficial to the men and women
across America who serve as police officers. Along with this, not only is it more beneficial to police,
but it could be more beneficial to civilians as well. For Example, one of the new advances that police
use that are beneficial are tasers. Tasers are less lethal compared to firearms, but are effective enough
to subdue a suspect. Of course there are critics of taser use, but more concrete studies show increased
level of suspect resistance are generally ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Protection of the people is one of the police s most important jobs, and if that means we adopt a more
militaristic style of policing compared to a more community based policing style, then so be it. For
example, a study was done on the Long Beach Police and found the department became more focused
on tactical concerns such as patrol and counter terrorism while abandoning policing activities such as
foot patrol. (Lee, 2010). Now, I am not an expert on the crime patterns in Long Beach, however, I
believe it would be safe to say the crime levels have dropped due to the militarization, as would be
criminals may be more likely to wimp out , knowing the police have the weapons they need in order to
stop them. Finally, with all of the tools available to the police in this time of militarization, they should
be able to handle just about any situation that they may come into contact with, which is a very good

How To Write An Autobiography Of Savannah
Early in the morning on the African savannah the sun begins to emerge from the horizon. The morning
sun continues to rise turning the sky a beautiful blood orange color. All types of animals are called to
attention by an African tribal chant; Nants ingonyama bagithi baba!
Groups of animals emerge from the thick fog walking across the grassy savannah. A flock of
flamingos fly across the still crystal water. Herds of antelope hop like frogs through the morning mist.
Meanwhile, a mother giraffe and her calf walk out from the shadows into the warm sunlight. They
stand on a grassy hill and notice below them groups of animals walking in the same direction. They
prance down the hill eager to join them. As they do this, a colonel of red ants walk gracefully across a
stick carrying large leaves. Below them, a large ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

up the hill loudly, their giant feet bringing up more and more thick clouds of dust with every step.
Meanwhile at pride rock, a tall flat ledge that towers over the savannah, hundreds of animals gather.
Zazu, a small blue bird with a large orange beak flies to the ledge. He bows with gratitude to Mufasa,
a strong powerful lion with a thick red mane. Emerging from the crowd of animals Rafiki, an elderly
baboon with white hair, slowly climbs up the ledge. He hugs Mufasa warmly. They walk back to a
cave where Mufasa s wife Surabhi is cradling a tiny lion cub. Mufasa and Surabhi rubs their heads
together showing their love for each other. Surabhi licks Simba s head gingerly waking up the napping
lion cub. Smiling, Rafiki bends over Simba shaking his walking cane which has two large melons

Old Spice Meeting Advertisement
The Old Spice Meeting Ad advertises a new men hair care line. The setting of the advertisement is in a
meeting room where a presentation is being given. In the meeting room there is only one female.
Everyone excluding the female and the male who has used Old Spice s products is paying attention to
the person giving the presentation. The one male and female are flirting with each other. The hair of
the male catches the attention of the woman so much that it wins him the woman s number. All of Old
Spice s products are for men. However, this commercial is attempting to persuade both men and
women to buy Old Spice products. Old Spice is saying that if a male uses their hair products he will

Old Spice gives the viewer the impression that if someone does not have the enhanced hair portrayed
in the commercial you will not get any recognition from women. In the commercial the man s hair
crawls off his head and approaches the woman. After crawling over to the woman, the hair begins to
chat with her and eventually hits home when she is persuaded enough to give it her number on a slip
of paper. It grabs the paper, gives the slip to the Old Spice man and crawls back on top of his head.
Throughout the entire commercial the woman never looks directly at the man. Her entire focus is
solely fixed on the hair. Without the hair the man would just be another guy sitting in the meeting, but
since he used Old Spice hair products his hair stuck out. This form of advertisement would not work
in any other medium that did not included video. The images of the video allows for viewers to see the
hair walking across the table and engaging in a full conversation with a female. The visual image of
the hair can easily be written out, but the true effects of it would not be conveyed unless it was seen
visually. For example, you can hear or read about a basketball game that was decided by a game
winning shot. But there is nothing like seeing a game winning basket on video. Video allows for the
viewers to actually see and almost feel what happened as if they were truly there. Old Spice uses two
of the main five advertising strategies in this meeting commercial.

Relationship Between Capitalism And Consumers
Before understanding the relationship between capitalism and consumers, it is important to know each
one individually. Capitalism basically means that a countries market is controlled by private owners
instead of the government. A consumer is someone who purchases products and services provided by
these private owners. It is very easy to see the relationship of giving and taking between consumers
and corporations, without one the other cannot function properly. In the very distant past, there was no
need for this type of relationship, if something was needed they made it or gathered it. Life was short
and hard, so no one thought to make a surplus of an item and sell it to others for profit. It wasn t really
until the 1700 s during the industrial revolution where products could be mass produced that the free
market came to be. The problem with capitalism s relationship with consumers is that corporation s
control consumption, corporations breed consumers, and can target consumers around the world.
Beginning with how consumption is controlled, corporations have molded and changed everything
from marketing techniques to the values consumers have. In the past, advertising techniques were very
few if any. They consisted of simple displays with little variety or special attraction. Slowly these
advertisements became more and more intricate and soon looking at window displays became an
activity to do on weekends. Robbin states that in 1880 only 30 million dollars was invested into

Analysis Of The Ramayana And The Ramana
A.K. Ramanujan says that in India and in Southeast Asian, no one ever reads the Ramayana and the
Mahabharata for the first time (Ramanujan 1991, p. 46). In this statement I think Ramanujan is trying
to say that even though these epics are written no one learns about them through the written text.
Being from an Indian family and hearing stories from my parents childhoods I would think most us
know the epics through stories or some visual context. I learnt about the Mahabharata by hearing
people talk about it. I am more familiar with the story of the Ramayana by celebrating the festival of
lights. I learnt that we lit diyas to create a path for the returning Lord Rama after his 14 year exile.
Until I became a part of my Asian 239L class did I read the Mahabharata and the Ramayana. I have
always seen the televised versions and heard stories from people. I would agree with Ramanujan as
from class we learnt about the various versions of the Ramayana though Indian Hindu culture and the
non Indian Hindu culture.
For this essay I will be looking at the Ramayana and it various Indian and non Indian versions to
understand why Ramanujan claims that the people of India and Southeast Asia never read the
Ramayana for the first time. I will also look at how the mediums through which people learn about the
epics affect the storyline and performances. There are many versions of the Ramayana which include
written and visual formats. The major differences with the written versions entail

Thomas More Omnipotism
Jaehun Lee

Sir Thomas More as the Victim of the Majority
In Democracy in America, Tocqueville warned us against the tyranny of the majority, arguing that
while the majority is omnipotent, it lacks omniscience and omnibenevolence, thus tends towards a
despotism in which those who differ are ostracized into submission. Sir Thomas More is the minority
in A Man for All Seasons, and the majority s ostracization of him serves to reinforce the dangers of
tyranny of the majority that Tocqueville outlined.
While the setting of A Man for all Seasons is certainly not a democracy like America, Tocqueville s
analysis of the tyranny of the majority remains relevant because it applies well to nondemocratic
governments. In Volume II, he writes, kings ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
When More prefers divine law over man s law, Henry VIII says, Those like Norfolk follow me
because I wear the crown. Or those like Master Cromwell follow because... I m their tiger. A mass
follows me... because it follows anything that moves. And then there s you. Not only does More seem
like nuisance for being the only one opposing the will of the king, Henry sees him as a threat to his
power. Henry sees that More is not arbitrarily disobeying him as Norfolk, Cromwell, and others
blindly follow the king; More has a reason for preferring God s law over the king s law, which poses a
threat to Henry s power. Machiavelli would thus advise Henry to eliminate any opposition to protect
his place on the throne. Failure to do so would leave him vulnerable, as the opposition could gain
internal and external allies to become more powerful than he. In order to combat More, Henry appeals
to the English government: the majority that supports him and will allow him to deal with More before
his opposition gains popular support and gets out of hand. This would justify the majority s actions
against Sir Thomas More. Tocqueville would disagree with that sentiment, arguing that society as a
whole must be vigilant to act against this act of tyranny by the majority comprised of Henry and his
supporters in Parliament. This, however, seems an impossible task because the

All Quiet On The Western Front Sparknotes
Plot Summary: All Quiet on the Western Front
Written by Erich Maria Remarque, All Quiet on the Western Front is the tale of a young man by the
name of Paul. Paul who is nineteen years old gathers several of his friends from school and together
they voluntarily join the army fighting for the Axis alliance. Before they are sent off into actual battle,
they are faced with the brutal training camp. Along with this they face the cruelty of the life of a
soldier. This made them question the reason for which a soldier fights. They are told that they fight
because they must be nationalists and must therefore be patriotic. But they began to understand that
these are just clichés and are used to brainwash soldiers. Soon after they graduate they are sent into the
fray of war. The premature idea of war being glorious and honourable is destroyed when they step into
the gruesome actuality of war. They are forced to live in constant fear for their life. Kemmerich, a

Pros And Cons Of Vacant Homes
Across the United States, vacant homes are sitting useless and have a negative impact on the housing
market. According to census.gov (2018), at the end of 2017, the vacancy rates of homes were 6.9% for
rentals and 1.6% for homeowners. Thousands of homes are sitting empty when they could be
demolished to benefit the housing market or repurposed to benefit someone else. This is a problem
that needs to be solved so that homeowners, the economy, and communities can reap the benefits.
Although vacant homes are a large issue, it is important that the pros and cons of bulldozing homes
are heavily weighed before choosing whether or not demolition is performed. There are many homes
in the U.S. owned by banks that have become vacant, and these houses ... Show more content on

Renovating would mean that the money being used is not wasted on destroying a home, but put into
something beneficial to society. According to the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban
Development (2014), Empty homes can become assets in neighborhood stabilization and revitalization
that can be renovated and reoccupied. After renovation, the homes can be rented or sold as
commercial properties to small business owners to be used as an office or work space. Furthermore,
these businesses would attract people to the communities that they are located in, which would bring
in even more money for the area. The business that purchases the property would need workers on site
as well; therefore more jobs would be brought into the surrounding community. If the bank or
government did not want to spend the time and effort it takes to renovate and sell properties, there are
companies that buy homes that are in need of revitalizing so that money can be brought into the
economy when the home is sold. Furthermore, if the bank could not financially justify selling or
renting the renovated house, the bank could sell the home to a land bank. Land banks can purchase
property for future development; therefore, the banks could sell vacant homes to these companies in
order to ease the

24x50 FFP Reticle ERS Rifle Scope. This scope comes with all the features long range shooters look
for at an affordable price. Check out these great features:

Bushnell has two features to increase light transmission in the Elite Tactical scope. The first is the
oversize 50mm objective lens. A larger objective lens, or opening, simply allows the scope to gather
more light. This makes vision in low light conditions much better. Second, Bushnell applies their Ultra
Wide Band Coating to the lenses to cut down light reflection. Both of these features combine to
maximize this scope s light gathering ability.
Weatherproof
As people with glasses know, moisture is the enemy of all optics. Rifle scopes are no exception.
Bushnell s Rainguard HD lens coating repels moisture to prevent blurring and fogging, even in the
rain. On the inside of the scope, a nitrogen purge acts as a barrier to moisture to prevent fogging as
well. A little rain isn t going to affect your shooting with this scope.
Parallax Adjustment
All high quality scopes have an adjustment to eliminate errors due to parallax. The Elite Tactical has a
convenient adjustment on the side that enables the shooter to adjust parallax to the desired shooting
distance from a shooting position. This is a great feature that most precision shooters will

Howard Zinn Chapter Summary
What evidence does Zinn offer to show the US government was not opposed to fascism on principle?
Zinn first explains that the governments main interest from the start wasn t really to even stop fascism
but rather to advance the counties own imperial interest. For example, Italy during this time was
practicing fascism. If the The US was opposed to fascism the government would have tried to cut Italy
off but instead it let American Businesses send oil to Italy. Zinn then explains how policies in the
United States almost perfectly mirrored those practiced in the fascists Nations. He portrays this in two
ways, first he explains the treatment of women and then explains the racism the broke out in the US
towards the Japanese. Fascist nations strongly believed in fallowing gender roles. What I mean by this
is that, according to fascists principle women were to basically embrace their stereotypes; staying at
home and being good housewives. Even though the US was supposed to be in a war against fascism, it
really didn t do anything differently to help equalize the role of women and men. Apparently other
than using women in defense industries the US didn t do anything different, also keep in mind there
were no other options besides women at this time. United states policies kept women out of the policy
making areas and only used them for war work. Lastly, Zinn explains how the racist practices in the
United starts almost perfectly imitated those seen in fascist nations. He used the

What Were The Consequences Of German Imperialism
Germans undertook extensive colonialism in south west Africa, and decided that the land should no
longer belong to the native people. 1880, saw the German s in control of a colony with large amounts
of natives on the land. At this time there were two major native African ethnic groups present. The
Nama or Namaqua, which had a population of around twenty thousand people, and the Herero a group
of cattle herders, which contained around seventy five thousand people. German colonial rule was
harsh and brutal, any type of resistance was met with brutality and severe consequences. The clash
between cultures would lead to a four year war that ended with the systematic murder and
extermination of the ethnic groups: Nama, and Herero. The war officially started in January of 1904
when Herero people attacked farms owned by Germans. Around one hundred and thirty people were
killed, but women, children and missionaries were left alone. The Germans soon took the upper hand
and managed to win the battle, in May of 1904, General Lothar von Trotha became commander, and
was in control of the actions taken by the German forces. He was a proponent of ... Show more

However, they were not prepared to fight back and eventually surrendered. Those who surrendered
were sent to concentration camps. Around a third of the prisoners did not even survive the transport to
the camps. Diseases ran rampant through the camps, and many people died from typhus and smallpox.
These camps had similar conditions to what would later be known as Nazi concentration camps. An
eyewitness described the people in the camps, They were in an enclosure on the beach, fenced in with
barbed wire, women were made to do hard labor, just like the men, the sand was thick and deep and
they were expected to load carts and trolleys (Fraser). Many men were killed, and women were often

Gay Basics Richard Mohr Analysis
According to Richard Mohr s, Gay Basics: Some Questions, Facts, and Values, many people think
society s treatment of gays is justified because they think gays are extremely immoral. To evaluate this
claim, different senses of moral must be distinguished. This sense of morality is a descriptive one
every society has a morality; when something is descriptively moral, it is nowhere near enough to be
considered normatively moral. So consistency and fairness require that we abandon the belief that
gays are immoral simply because most people dislike or disapprove of gays or gay acts, or even
because gay sex acts are illegal (Mohr, 201).
If popular opinion and custom are not enough to ground moral condemnation of homosexuality,

Sexual essentialism is the idea that sex is a natural force that exists prior to social life and shapes
institutions (Rubin, 149). The most important one is sex negativity. Western cultures generally
considered sex to be this dangerous, negative force and most Christian tradition found sex to be
inherently sinful. Basically, it was assumed that the genitalia was much lower and less holy than the
mind, the soul, the heart, or even the upper part of the digestive system (Rubin, 150). The fallacy of
the misplaced scale is a corollary of sex negativity. The hierarchical valuation of sex acts include
fetishism, sadism, masochism, transsexuality, transvestism, exhibitionism, voyeurism, and pedophilia
(Rubin, 151). The domino theory of sexual peril is basically the fact that a line seems to stand between
sexual order and chaos. It expresses the fear that if anything is permitted to cross this erotic DMZ, the
barrier against scary sex will crumble and something unspeakable will skitter across (Rubin, 152). The
lack of a concept benign sexual variation states that variation is a fundamental property of all life,
from the simplest biological organisms to the most complex human social formations. Yet, sexuality is
supposed to conform to a single standard (Rubin,

Gardner s Respiratory Virus ( Grv )
Gardner s Respiratory Virus (GRV) is an enveloped, single stranded RNA (ssRNA) virus that has been
shown to cause both upper and lower respiratory tract infections. This virus is an intracellular virus
capable of replicating free within the cytoplasm of host cells. Spread through small, airborne viral
droplets, GRV invades the physical barrier that is the mucosal surface lining the lungs and respiratory
tract. The cells that line this surface are mostly epithelial cells, and GRV enters these cells by being
transported across their membranes through receptor mediated endocytosis. Once inside the host cell,
GRV replicates and begins its cytopathic effects on the host cells; the infected epithelial cells undergo
structural changes that lead to irritation, inflammation, and eventual lysis that can weaken these
mucosal surfaces, making the host more susceptible to further pathogenic attack. As with similar
viruses, once the first line of defense is breached and GRV is transported into the host cells, the
immune response, involving both the innate and adaptive branches of the immune system is initiated
and attempts to remove the virus as well as prevent future infection. GRV however, is highly evolved
and possesses various evasion mechanisms that prevent the immune system from accomplishing its
job; luckily, a drug does exist to help eliminate the virus.
Expected Immune Response The innate immune response is meant to prevent further invasion and
replication of the pathogen

Hispanic Population And Its Impact On American Society
The United States Hispanic population is increasing each year. As of 2011, Hispanics make up nearly
52.0 million of the US population making them the leading minority group in the United States. From
the year 2000 to 2011 alone, there has been a 37% increase in population. The projection for the year
2050 is 132.8 million (Nora, 2009). In turn, school populations of Hispanics are increase as well.
Hispanics, although improving academically, continue to have high school dropout rates, higher than
other racial and ethnic groups and continue to lag behind school peers. Nearly half of the Hispanic
population fails to graduate from high school, 13% of the population receives their bachelors and an
even smaller number of 4% receive their graduate or professional degree (SepĂșlveda, J. 2010). Being
the largest minority group in the US, the Hispanic minority group has become a great impact on
American society. The grand population increase only goes to show how important the Hispanic
population is to the future of the United States. As they become larger, they will be shaping the future.
The purpose of this paper is to investigate the many influences on Hispanic educational completion in
the United States. I will look into the various aspects of Hispanics that may influence the lag in
educational attainment and factors, which might hinder the retention rate of Hispanic students to stay
in schools. As an immigrant, student, educator, and a grad student, I always believe that

How Did William Morris Use Of Arts
William Morris 1834 1896 William Morris led the Arts and Crafts movement in the 1800 s. Some of
his work, like this one pictured to the left, demonstrates the beauty of the simplicity in his work.
William Morris was an artist, designer, printer, typographer, bookbinder, craftsman, poet, writer and
champion of socialist ideals. He believed that a designer should have a working knowledge of any
media that he used and as a result he spent a lot of time teaching himself a wide variety of techniques.
He also founded the Kelmscott Press which published high quality hand bound books and was very
influential in the revival of the private press. Origin of Arts and Crafts Young London based architects

The Innocent Man Analyse
An Innocent Man by Billy Joel This song really connects with The Innocent Man. The lyrics strongly
represent how witnesses of certain crimes would rather keep their mouths shut then get involved. The
Innocent Man could have had a lot of good within it if people would have spoken up, but no one did.
An innocent man ended up accused of murder because Some people [ran] from a possible fight and
Some people [figured] they [could] never win (Billy Joel). The book and this song both represent how
fear lies within most when it comes to opening up and revealing the truth, and the good are actually
evil for this. Til it Happens to You by Lady Gaga This song has a powerful connection to the story The

This song takes about someone feeling as though the world has reached an ending and how they are
done taking the excuses and lies being told. This song can also relate to what Ron Williamson
experienced throughout his horrible years in jail. He felt as though his world had ended, and everyone
was telling him silly lies. He knew they were lying, and it was an awful thing to go through. This song
demonstrates, like in the book, how hard it is to know the truth, but it be hidden from you. Piece by
Piece by Kelly Clarkson This is a powerful song that represents the loss and gaining of trust for
someone. Clarkson s lyrics can relate to The Innocent Man in many ways. The main conncenection to
the book is about Debbie slowly growing more and more afraid of Glen Gore. She becomes timid to
talk to him and loses trust. People have seen them talk before, so its clear that Debbie gradually
respects him more and gains trust. When the tradegy happens, she relizes how awful it was to ever,

The Contender Themes
A universal theme conveyed in The Contender is that life is filled with obstacles; one must become a
contender in order to be successful in life as Mr. Donatelli, Alfred Brook s trainer remarks, Everybody
wants to be a champion. That s not enough. You have to start by wanting to be a contender (Lipsyte

it is of utmost importance for them to learn its exact definition on the first scene. A contender is a
person who [struggles] to surmount a difficulty or danger (Concise Oxford American dictionary).

characterization and is imperative for a thorough representation of his well versed, self disciplined

Forensic Evidence From A Crime Scene
Procedures used to examine and recover forensic evidence from a crime scene.
There are many different procedures in Forensic Science which are used to gather evidence from
crime scenes, all of which vary due to no crime scene being identical. Examining the evidence from a
crime scene is essential and a very important factor of Forensic Science. The evidence gathered from a
crime scene will provide facts and piece together information regarding the crime committed, this
information is then used to form a case and debate what happened at the crime scene. Once all the
information is gathered and the facts are established, the case is then presented to a court of justice to
prove or disprove any facts and evidence.
Usually there are many steps when examining and recovering forensic evidence for a crime scene and
these are as follow.
Planning to examine a crime scene
When planning to examine a crime scene all aspects should be taken into account before entering. The
first thing that should happen is cordoning off the crime scene, this is predominately performed by the
police and is done so to ensure the crime scene is not contaminated by public access. Once the scene is
secure access is restricted to the police and forensic team. When planning to examine a crime scene
key information should be available which will help identify the location, area and what type of crime
has been committed. This information will enable the forensic team to competently perform a rigorous
examination

The Affect Of The Six-Day War On Israel
Terrorism and war have affected Israel, and the people living there, ever since they became their own
nation. Over the long history of Jerusalem it has been destroyed twice, besieged 23 times attacked 52
times, and captured and recaptured 44 times. Jerusalem was established by King David as the capital
city of Israel, however there has since been a struggle of which religion should occupy the region.
Christians and Muslims have been fighting a long time to control the land of Israel because they both
feel they are entitled to it. The Muslims believe Muhammad s armies founded Israel. On the other
hand, the Christians feel positive that the land should be theirs because they founded it first.

The Arab nations were trying to eliminate Israel and take away the shame they felt after they were
defeated a few years earlier when they fought Israel. The countries against Israel united together and
planned out the war thinking it would be a piece of cake. Moreover, Israel fended off the countries and
won the war in six days hence the name the Six Day War. General Mordechai Hod, who was a
commanding general for the Israeli Air Force, said about the Six Day War, The dangers of Israel s

increased the number of terrorist attacks that Israel has now, this is because many countries are not
fans of Israel and are upset about the way they lost the war. The countries that fought Israel used a
billion dollars worth of supplies during the war, causing serious debt. The Six Day War changed the
events that happened in Israel and the ones that are still occurring in Israel. Israel gained some respect
because of how they won the war against all the countries facing them in the Six Day War.
Furthermore, Israel gained respect from some of the countries. Even though Israel had a small
population they put up a tough fight. Israel showed resilience during the Six Day War, and since the

Ashwin-Jadeja Essay
Ashwin Jadeja s performance in this series so far
Cricket has always been a game majorly dominated by batsman and producing good bowlers was
always a challenge. When it came to spin bowling it was a bigger challenge; spin was always
considered more of an art, It requires more patience and character. It is more of deceiving batsman
with variations, loop and the dip rather than terrorizing the batsman with pace. Slowly over the years
there has been a change, captains have started recognizing it as more of wicket taking option, the
pitches have started yielding results too which has brought all the options into the game. Indian spin

What Threats Did Newell Face In The Late 1990 s
What opportunities and threats did Newell face in the late 1990 s? Use external analysis tools to
provide support for your answer. Threats: One of the biggest threats Newell faced was dealing in a
fragmented industry. There is a high level of competition and low barriers to entry. Although they are
indeed fragmented, I would also say that over time they have started to look slightly mature.
Substitutes: In addition, they have to deal with the threat of substitutes and private label brands.
Newell tends to focus more on quality than price. Due to a declining economy, other competitors are
starting to make the same or similar product for less, meaning a decrease in market share and profit
margin. Newell has also become very dependent on bigger ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

By acquiring companies that could add value, and aligning them with Newell s systems and processes,
they could effectively decrease competition while increasing revenue. Newellization primarily focused
on three categories of standards, which were an integrated financial system, a sales and order
processing system and a flexible manufacturing system. The best example of the Newellization
process was their purchase of Anchor Hocking. Newell immediately saw ways to increase company
profit share and install discipline. By letting go of high level executives, cutting 1,400 jobs, closing 25
retail locations and one factory, Newell eliminated excess inventory by 40%, saved $32.4 million, and
an additional $12 million on administrative support. Rarity: All new companies that Newell acquired
had to adapt to their Newellization strategy. Newell would bring in, their own, executives and
managers to help expedite this process in order to be more proficient and profitable. This process had
to be speedy because there was no room for error, usually 6 to 18 months. To help limit the threat of
substitutes, Newell focused on #1 and #2 companies in markets that made brand name products sold
year round. The goal was efficiency over pricing power. Newell believed that powerful customers
could give them leverage with suppliers. They also relied in market rationalization, meaning they were

Misandry and Emasculation in Disney s Beauty and the Beast
Disney s Beauty and the Beast can be seen as a very honest way of depicting how society feels about
the gender roles of men and women. Firstly, of the main characters, two out of the three are in fact
males. The interesting thing about this balance is that despite there being a higher number of males in
the film, they are both shown to be at least partially villainous. Throughout the entirety of the film, the
only two characters, main or otherwise, who truly embody and possess typically masculine
characteristics (chivalry, a wish to fight to protect women, strength etc) are both depicted as being
wrong, evil, and negative. The first of these two men is Gaston. Gaston is by all accounts, the villain
of the piece. His great crime? He ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
But Beast is not only an interesting topic when discussing the hugely misandric elements of the film
because of this, it is also worthy of discussion because of the tipping point. The turning point, the face
heel turn, whichever name you choose. He fully makes the transformation from villain to victim when
he meets and is guided by Belle. A woman. If we remove the fantasy and the characters, and look at it
purely in terms of actions, then we are met with this path of characterisation. Horrible, evil masculine
male who cannot control himself (Villain) Possibly a redeemable person, he has a few feminine traits
[MEETS A WOMAN] Fully a victim, in need of love and affection to limit his masculine traits and
become a feminised person, thus entering the stage of being worth anything in society. Yes, Beast
becomes a good character, one who we are expected to sympathise with, only when he has a feminine
touch. When a woman enters the equation and puts her foot down, she brings emasculation and shame
for his maleness, and thus the process of making him acceptable begins. This same value is shown
through sitcoms, television shows, films and every other form of media. It s one of the most basic
storylines. Man has masculine traits (sleeping with multiple partners, a biological urge, or
demonstrating and taking pride in physical prowess, also a biological and social urge) and this means

The Corruption Of The Shortcomings Of Korean Americans In...
When the streets of Los Angeles exploded on April 29, 1992, Korean Americans found themselves in
a crisis of identity. Known to them as Sa i gu, or 4 2 9, the five day uprising bluntly revealed their
cultural separation and its shortcomings. As Los Angeles fell apart, local Korean business owners
found themselves confronting their prejudice, which had undermined their relationship with black
customers. Following the exposure of these two issues during and after the riots, a mental shift in the
Korean American community became evident through its response to the event. By exemplifying the
involvement of Korean merchants in interethnic disputes, the Los Angeles riots prompted the
integration of Korean Americans into America s multicultural society.
Prior to the upheaval in 1992, the economic situation of many Korean immigrants, including those
who were merchants in Los Angeles, influenced their perceived isolation from other Americans.
Although a majority of these Koreans had a high education and desired to work as professionals in
America, their foreigner status and limited English prevented them from doing so. Consequently, they
resorted to running small businesses, hoping to eventually achieve mainstream success and therefore
upward mobility. To progress toward this goal, Korean merchants depended on each other for funding;
however, despite the financial advantages that this networking brought, it simultaneously kept
Koreans from engaging with the society that they

  • 2. Why Should We Make Decisions On Experiences That They... able to make decisions on experiences that they themselves could not understand. This really raised a lot of questions to me about who is in power and how big of a problem it is the those in power are not more diverse. We have struggled in society and have imprisoned so many behind stone walls of racism, sexism, and homophobia (Rudacille 140). It also raised awareness that the very same acts done by heterosexual couples were acceptable, and not punishable in the confines of the home, but that gays were not even safe in private. After the decision in Lawrence v Texas made by the U.S. Supreme Court, it was understood that the gay community had a chance to move forward into the light even more, and that their fight for freedom would not disappear. By declaring that it is unconstitutional to make arrests against gays in the home, it also declared that homosexuals should have the same rights as everyone else. It made it more acceptable and brought homosexuality into the light to where it was okay to talk about and dispute. Not only was it just an invasion of liberty, as the Court thought , but also the case enforced a bad law, a Homosexual Status Law, which made being gay a crime. In writing this paper, I went back to the very beginning of our discussions, and looked at my very first discussion post on the Stonewall Uprising. I realized, that while we did do a lot of court case focused work, that I still learned a lot even outside of these cases. I wanted to post both my ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Were Lewis And Clark Respectful To The Native Americans... Were Lewis and Clark respectful to the Native Americans they met on their journey? The expedition of Lewis and Clark was a landmarking event in American history, but its significance goes beyond just the land they discovered. The Lewis and Clark Expedition was put forward so the two would be able to see and map out western America in search of new trade routes and passages. Lewis and Clark would have doubtfully survived had it not been with the aid of the Indians they met on their travels. Upon their controversial meetings with several Indian groups, Lewis and Clark were not respectful to the Americans they met on their journey. The controversial messages behind the peace metals, the reference to the Indians as children , and the physical ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... As requested by Jefferson, Lewis and Clark would give medicine to the Indians, as disease was very common among them. They were able to complete many trades with Indian groups, giving them things such as guns and receiving food and information along with other resources for their expedition. Sacagawea was a very helpful guide and interpreter for Lewis and Clark. She was a very important contributing aid to the success of the expedition. The relationship between Lewis and Clark and Sacagawea and her family was an example of respect between the two groups. After the help of Sacagawea, Lewis and Clark even persuaded them to give them Sacagawea s son so they could put him in United States schooling, and he could grow up healthy. Lewis and Clark did follow through with this promise. Lewis and Clark were respectful at times to the Indians, but the two as well disrespected them, and on multiple ... • 4. American Indian Movement Essay American Indian Movement: Activism and Repression Native Americans have felt distress from societal and governmental interactions for hundreds of years. American Indian protests against these pressures date back to the colonial period. Broken treaties, removal policies, acculturation, and assimilation have scarred the indigenous societies of the United States. These policies and the continued oppression of the native communities produced an atmosphere of heightened tension. Governmental pressure for assimilation and their apparent aim to destroy cultures, communities, and identities through policies gave the native people a reason to fight. The unanticipated consequence was the subsequent creation of a pan American Indian identity ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Shortly, after fulfilling local obligations the AIM began to address the state and national arenas. Indian youth from colleges, reservations and urban centers began to speak out against treatments they were receiving, while advocating self government and autonomy. The AIM focus took a shift from socioeconomic discrimination against Indians towards the government s policies and programs. This identity based movement began to receive extreme support from returning Native American Vietnam veterans. Why was I fighting to uphold a U.S. treaty commitment halfway around the world when the United States was violating its treaty commitments to my own people and about 300 other Indian Nations? asked one Creek Cherokee veteran. I was fighting the wrong people, pure and simple (Calloway 437). The ethically comprised members of the AIM started to raise their concerns through radical events to attract public and governmental action on their behalf. The occupation of Alcatraz Island played a large role in establishing new methods in the Native Americans fight for recognition and change. As the growing identity was being formed in the indigenous society in the United States an event helped to fuel the Alcatraz occupation. On October 9th, of 1969 the American Indian Center in San Francisco burned down, which became a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Alexander Graham Bell Essay Alexander Graham Bell Works Cited Missing The importance of Alexander Graham Bell on today s society is visible, or rather audible, every day and everywhere. First and foremost, Alexander Graham Bell was a prolific teacher of the deaf. This is what he considered to be his true life s work, but only one of the many important things he did. Through his research of speech and sound, and his creative mind, he would become one of the most influential inventors in modern history. His own definition of an inventor, A man who looks upon the world and is not contented with things as they are. He wants to improve whatever he sees, he wants to benefit the world. suits him well. Every thing that he did had an impact on someone. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Early in 1874 Bell met Thomas A. Watson, a young machinist at a Boston electrical shop. Watson became Bell s indispensable assistant, bringing to Bell s experiments the crucial ingredient that had been lacking, his technical expertise in electrical engineering. Together the two men spent endless hours experimenting (Paschoff 43,44). Although Bell formed the basic concept of the telephone using a varying but unbroken electric current to transmit the varying sound waves of human speech, in the summer of 1874, Hubbard insisted that the young inventor focus his efforts on the harmonic telegraph instead. Bell wanted to continue his work on the telephone but he complied. When he patented one of his telegraph designs in February 1875, he found that Elisha Gray had patented a multiple telegraph two days earlier. Greatly discouraged, Bell consulted in Washington with the elderly Joseph Henry, who urged Bell to pursue his germ of a great invention speech transmission (Grosvenor and Wesson 55). Back in Boston, Bell and Watson continued to work on the harmonic telegraph, but still with the telephone in mind. By accident on a June day in 1875, an intermittent transmitter produced a steady current and transmitted sound, when Watson tightened or loosened a particular screw it produced a sound that would vary in pitch. Bell had proof of his 1874 idea; he quickly ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 7. Pros And Cons Of Tasers In this current period of time, police men and women have an even bigger target on their backs compared to times of the past. In the past year, we as students have had a very unique opportunity as criminal justice majors to see some interesting events unfold, such as the riots in Ferguson, Missouri, a number of allegedly wrongful deaths done by the police s hands, to the riots in Baltimore. With all of this happening, I feel that the use of technology and militarization is beneficial to the men and women across America who serve as police officers. Along with this, not only is it more beneficial to police, but it could be more beneficial to civilians as well. For Example, one of the new advances that police use that are beneficial are tasers. Tasers are less lethal compared to firearms, but are effective enough to subdue a suspect. Of course there are critics of taser use, but more concrete studies show increased level of suspect resistance are generally ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Protection of the people is one of the police s most important jobs, and if that means we adopt a more militaristic style of policing compared to a more community based policing style, then so be it. For example, a study was done on the Long Beach Police and found the department became more focused on tactical concerns such as patrol and counter terrorism while abandoning policing activities such as foot patrol. (Lee, 2010). Now, I am not an expert on the crime patterns in Long Beach, however, I believe it would be safe to say the crime levels have dropped due to the militarization, as would be criminals may be more likely to wimp out , knowing the police have the weapons they need in order to stop them. Finally, with all of the tools available to the police in this time of militarization, they should be able to handle just about any situation that they may come into contact with, which is a very good ... Groups of animals emerge from the thick fog walking across the grassy savannah. A flock of flamingos fly across the still crystal water. Herds of antelope hop like frogs through the morning mist. Meanwhile, a mother giraffe and her calf walk out from the shadows into the warm sunlight. They stand on a grassy hill and notice below them groups of animals walking in the same direction. They prance down the hill eager to join them. As they do this, a colonel of red ants walk gracefully across a stick carrying large leaves. Below them, a large ... It grabs the paper, gives the slip to the Old Spice man and crawls back on top of his head. Throughout the entire commercial the woman never looks directly at the man. • 10. Relationship Between Capitalism And Consumers Before understanding the relationship between capitalism and consumers, it is important to know each one individually. Capitalism basically means that a countries market is controlled by private owners instead of the government. A consumer is someone who purchases products and services provided by these private owners. It is very easy to see the relationship of giving and taking between consumers and corporations, without one the other cannot function properly. In the very distant past, there was no need for this type of relationship, if something was needed they made it or gathered it. Life was short and hard, so no one thought to make a surplus of an item and sell it to others for profit. It wasn t really until the 1700 s during the industrial revolution where products could be mass produced that the free market came to be. The problem with capitalism s relationship with consumers is that corporation s control consumption, corporations breed consumers, and can target consumers around the world. Beginning with how consumption is controlled, corporations have molded and changed everything from marketing techniques to the values consumers have. In the past, advertising techniques were very few if any. They consisted of simple displays with little variety or special attraction. Slowly these advertisements became more and more intricate and soon looking at window displays became an activity to do on weekends. Ramanujan says that in India and in Southeast Asian, no one ever reads the Ramayana and the Mahabharata for the first time (Ramanujan 1991, p. 46). In this statement I think Ramanujan is trying to say that even though these epics are written no one learns about them through the written text. Being from an Indian family and hearing stories from my parents childhoods I would think most us know the epics through stories or some visual context. I learnt about the Mahabharata by hearing people talk about it. I am more familiar with the story of the Ramayana by celebrating the festival of lights. I learnt that we lit diyas to create a path for the returning Lord Rama after his 14 year exile. Until I became a part of my Asian 239L class did I read the Mahabharata and the Ramayana. I have always seen the televised versions and heard stories from people. I would agree with Ramanujan as from class we learnt about the various versions of the Ramayana though Indian Hindu culture and the non Indian Hindu culture. For this essay I will be looking at the Ramayana and it various Indian and non Indian versions to understand why Ramanujan claims that the people of India and Southeast Asia never read the Ramayana for the first time. I will also look at how the mediums through which people learn about the epics affect the storyline and performances. There are many versions of the Ramayana which include written and visual formats. • 12. Thomas More Omnipotism Jaehun Lee 3/7/18 Sir Thomas More as the Victim of the Majority In Democracy in America, Tocqueville warned us against the tyranny of the majority, arguing that while the majority is omnipotent, it lacks omniscience and omnibenevolence, thus tends towards a despotism in which those who differ are ostracized into submission. Sir Thomas More is the minority in A Man for All Seasons, and the majority s ostracization of him serves to reinforce the dangers of tyranny of the majority that Tocqueville outlined. While the setting of A Man for all Seasons is certainly not a democracy like America, Tocqueville s analysis of the tyranny of the majority remains relevant because it applies well to nondemocratic governments. Not only does More seem like nuisance for being the only one opposing the will of the king, Henry sees him as a threat to his power. Henry sees that More is not arbitrarily disobeying him as Norfolk, Cromwell, and others blindly follow the king; More has a reason for preferring God s law over the king s law, which poses a threat to Henry s power. Machiavelli would thus advise Henry to eliminate any opposition to protect his place on the throne. Failure to do so would leave him vulnerable, as the opposition could gain internal and external allies to become more powerful than he. In order to combat More, Henry appeals to the English government: the majority that supports him and will allow him to deal with More before his opposition gains popular support and gets out of hand. This would justify the majority s actions against Sir Thomas More. Tocqueville would disagree with that sentiment, arguing that society as a whole must be vigilant to act against this act of tyranny by the majority comprised of Henry and his supporters in Parliament. If the The US was opposed to fascism the government would have tried to cut Italy off but instead it let American Businesses send oil to Italy. Zinn then explains how policies in the United States almost perfectly mirrored those practiced in the fascists Nations. He portrays this in two ways, first he explains the treatment of women and then explains the racism the broke out in the US towards the Japanese. Fascist nations strongly believed in fallowing gender roles. What I mean by this is that, according to fascists principle women were to basically embrace their stereotypes; staying at home and being good housewives. Even though the US was supposed to be in a war against fascism, it really didn t do anything differently to help equalize the role of women and men. Apparently other than using women in defense industries the US didn t do anything different, also keep in mind there were no other options besides women at this time. Basically, it was assumed that the genitalia was much lower and less holy than the mind, the soul, the heart, or even the upper part of the digestive system (Rubin, 150). • 23. Gardner s Respiratory Virus ( Grv ) Gardner s Respiratory Virus (GRV) is an enveloped, single stranded RNA (ssRNA) virus that has been shown to cause both upper and lower respiratory tract infections. This virus is an intracellular virus capable of replicating free within the cytoplasm of host cells. Spread through small, airborne viral droplets, GRV invades the physical barrier that is the mucosal surface lining the lungs and respiratory tract. The cells that line this surface are mostly epithelial cells, and GRV enters these cells by being transported across their membranes through receptor mediated endocytosis. Once inside the host cell, GRV replicates and begins its cytopathic effects on the host cells; the infected epithelial cells undergo structural changes that lead to irritation, inflammation, and eventual lysis that can weaken these mucosal surfaces, making the host more susceptible to further pathogenic attack. As with similar viruses, once the first line of defense is breached and GRV is transported into the host cells, the immune response, involving both the innate and adaptive branches of the immune system is initiated and attempts to remove the virus as well as prevent future infection. GRV however, is highly evolved and possesses various evasion mechanisms that prevent the immune system from accomplishing its job; luckily, a drug does exist to help eliminate the virus. When it came to spin bowling it was a bigger challenge; spin was always considered more of an art, It requires more patience and character. It is more of deceiving batsman with variations, loop and the dip rather than terrorizing the batsman with pace. Slowly over the years there has been a change, captains have started recognizing it as more of wicket taking option, the pitches have started yielding results too which has brought all the options into the game. Ashwin has been phenomenon, if there is anything that he can improve is his patience, he at times doesn t get the wicket early in his spell but that is fine, happens with most spin bowlers. • 34. What Threats Did Newell Face In The Late 1990 s What opportunities and threats did Newell face in the late 1990 s? Use external analysis tools to provide support for your answer. Threats: One of the biggest threats Newell faced was dealing in a fragmented industry. There is a high level of competition and low barriers to entry. Although they are indeed fragmented, I would also say that over time they have started to look slightly mature. Substitutes: In addition, they have to deal with the threat of substitutes and private label brands. Newell tends to focus more on quality than price. Due to a declining economy, other competitors are starting to make the same or similar product for less, meaning a decrease in market share and profit margin. Newell has also become very dependent on bigger ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... By acquiring companies that could add value, and aligning them with Newell s systems and processes, they could effectively decrease competition while increasing revenue. Newellization primarily focused on three categories of standards, which were an integrated financial system, a sales and order processing system and a flexible manufacturing system. The best example of the Newellization process was their purchase of Anchor Hocking. Newell immediately saw ways to increase company profit share and install discipline. By letting go of high level executives, cutting 1,400 jobs, closing 25 retail locations and one factory, Newell eliminated excess inventory by 40%, saved $32.4 million, and an additional $12 million on administrative support. Rarity: All new companies that Newell acquired had to adapt to their Newellization strategy. Newell would bring in, their own, executives and managers to help expedite this process in order to be more proficient and profitable. This process had to be speedy because there was no room for error, usually 6 to 18 months. To help limit the threat of substitutes, Newell focused on #1 and #2 companies in markets that made brand name products sold year round. The goal was efficiency over pricing power. Newell believed that powerful customers could give them leverage with suppliers. They also relied in market rationalization, meaning they were not scared ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 36. Misandry and Emasculation in Disney s Beauty and the Beast Disney s Beauty and the Beast can be seen as a very honest way of depicting how society feels about the gender roles of men and women. Firstly, of the main characters, two out of the three are in fact males. The interesting thing about this balance is that despite there being a higher number of males in the film, they are both shown to be at least partially villainous. Throughout the entirety of the film, the only two characters, main or otherwise, who truly embody and possess typically masculine characteristics (chivalry, a wish to fight to protect women, strength etc) are both depicted as being wrong, evil, and negative. The first of these two men is Gaston. Gaston is by all accounts, the villain of the piece. His great crime? He ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The turning point, the face heel turn, whichever name you choose. He fully makes the transformation from villain to victim when he meets and is guided by Belle. A woman. If we remove the fantasy and the characters, and look at it purely in terms of actions, then we are met with this path of characterisation. Horrible, evil masculine male who cannot control himself (Villain) Possibly a redeemable person, he has a few feminine traits [MEETS A WOMAN] Fully a victim, in need of love and affection to limit his masculine traits and become a feminised person, thus entering the stage of being worth anything in society. Yes, Beast becomes a good character, one who we are expected to sympathise with, only when he has a feminine touch. When a woman enters the equation and puts her foot down, she brings emasculation and shame for his maleness, and thus the process of making him acceptable begins. This same value is shown through sitcoms, television shows, films and every other form of media. It s one of the most basic storylines. • 38. The Corruption Of The Shortcomings Of Korean Americans In... When the streets of Los Angeles exploded on April 29, 1992, Korean Americans found themselves in a crisis of identity. Known to them as Sa i gu, or 4 2 9, the five day uprising bluntly revealed their cultural separation and its shortcomings. As Los Angeles fell apart, local Korean business owners found themselves confronting their prejudice, which had undermined their relationship with black customers. Following the exposure of these two issues during and after the riots, a mental shift in the Korean American community became evident through its response to the event. By exemplifying the involvement of Korean merchants in interethnic disputes, the Los Angeles riots prompted the integration of Korean Americans into America s multicultural society. Prior to the upheaval in 1992, the economic situation of many Korean immigrants, including those who were merchants in Los Angeles, influenced their perceived isolation from other Americans. Although a majority of these Koreans had a high education and desired to work as professionals in America, their foreigner status and limited English prevented them from doing so. Consequently, they resorted to running small businesses, hoping to eventually achieve mainstream success and therefore upward mobility. To progress toward this goal, Korean merchants depended on each other for funding; however, despite the financial advantages that this networking brought, it simultaneously kept Koreans from engaging with the society that they ...
