Overview of the Arab Culture Essay
Name of Culture Arab is not a race, but is a group of individuals that are united by their culture and
history (ADC, 2014). There are many different variations commonly based on a particular individual s
country of origin such as Arab Americans. Other variations are based on their social class, the level of
their education, if they live urbanely or rurally, or the time they have spent in the United States
(Lipson Dubble, 2007). Most Arabs also practice Islamic religion and are Muslim. When working with
an Arab or Muslim client, nurses should ask what the client wishes to be referred to so as not to offend
them in any way (Lipson Dubble, 2007).

If unsure how to address the patient, the nurse should ask how a friend or distant relative would
address them. Adults and elderly may have other preferences like mother or father, followed by the
first name of their eldest son. When approaching an Arab, it is acceptable to shake their hand, smile,
and offer direct eye contact. Although the patient may avoid these gestures, they are not viewed as
offensive (Lipson Dubble, 2007).
Historical Background Prompting Immigration Arabs began arriving in the United States in the early
1800s. The first large wave arrived between 1887 1913. Many single, uneducated men were included
in this large wave if immigrants. They were arriving from Greater Syria in search of a better job and a
higher standard of living (Lipson Dubble, 2007). The next wave of Arab immigrants came to the
United States from 1940 1970. This wave of immigrants was driven by the political events and wars
going on in their home countries; many of these immigrants were refugees. In 1948 the creation of the
State of Israel drastically increased the amount of Arab Muslim immigrants (Lipson Dubble, 2007).
The third marked wave of Arab immigrants came from 1970 2000. This wave was also driven by wars
and economic and political circumstances that were quickly deteriorating. The majority of these
immigrants were professions of high education (Lipson Dubble, 2007). Between 1982 1989, the

Amy Tan Influence
Amy Tan s past and biography have a great influence on her story The Rules of the Game, because she
models the tense relationship between Waverly and her mother after Tan s own relationship with her
mother. Tan and Waverly were both playing a game against their mother. Tan gives Waverly many of
the same personality traits and difficulties that Tan experienced herself in her youth and this leads to a
parallel of their conflicts.
Amy Tan s mother would always push Amy when she was young, just as Waverly s mother would
push Waverly, because both mothers took pride in their daughters success. Yet, both Amy Tan s mother
and Waverly s mother had different ideas of success compared to their daughters. Amy Tan s mother

A key part of the Chinese culture is bringing honor to oneself and one s family. A part of being
honorable is having a sense of independence, this is why Tan s mother refused to take antidepressants.
Tan said, ...what a different childhood I might have had had my mother taken antidepressants (Dunick
3). Tan s mother refused to take medication, because it would bring shame to herself and her family.
She would be admitting defeat to depression and illness and this would be unacceptable to the Chinese
culture. Tan s mother decided to practice invisible strength. This shows how Tan s mother was strong
willed and believed that she did not need help, because it would bring shame. Tan incorporated the
same personality traits of her own mother into Waverly s mother, who strived to be a strong and
independent person. An example of this is when Waverly s mother told Vincent to dispose of the chess
set. She said, She not want it. We not want it. she said, tossing her head stiffly to the side with a tight,
proud smile (Tan 3). Her mother could not accept charity, because it would show weakness and
dependence and bring

The Relationship Between Music And Society
The relationship between music and society is an exceptionally powerful and crucial one. In some
cases, this relationship is viewed as one that is harmonious and beneficial to large communities of
people. However, that exact relationship could also be scrutinized as one that is extremely discordant
to other communities. Green Day happens to fall precisely in the middle of that musical spectrum,
depending on who is asked. Regardless of opinion, songs are much more than just music and are
essentially retained as pieces of history. These songs help showcase the trends, behaviors, and even
struggles of different time periods. With that being said, one may ask What all did the musical group
Green Day contribute to society? . Green Day is a pop punk/alternative rock band formed in 1986. The
band consists of three members: Billie Joe Armstrong (lead singer), Mike Dirnt (bass and backing
vocals), and Tré Cool (drums and percussion). The band known as Green Day originally formed in
Berkeley, California by Armstrong and Dirnt, and was initially titled Sweet Children. The two were
only fourteen years old at the time they founded their band. In 1988, Lookout! Records owner, Larry
Livermore, signed a deal with the group to be part of his label. Shortly after being signed, the band s
name was changed to Green Day as a result of Armstrong s and Dirnt s love for marijuana (also to
prevent confusion with another west coast pop punk band, Sweet Baby). Despite a couple minor EP
releases and

Amalgam Research Paper
I am writing my paper on amalgam history in dentistry. Amalgam was developed in England and
France it consisted of silver, tin, copper, zinc, and mercury. It was not openly embraced by organized
dentistry in America until the 1840s. The Crawcour brothers brought amalgam into the United States
in 1833. Half of the people with dental restorations in upstate New York consisted of amalgam in
1844. The American Society of Dental Surgeons made all of the members to sign a pledge that
restricted them from using mercury fillings, because at the time it was considered to be malpractice.
That created the first dental amalgam war, but it ended in 1856 with cancelation of the association.
In 1859 the American Dental Association (ADA) was founded and took the place of the American
Society of Dental Surgeons. The ADA strongly defended amalgam from the allegations of being too
risky from the health standpoint. In 1930 the ratio of the mercury to the remaining metallic mixture
was sixty six to thirty three. Conventional amalgams (gamma 2) has thirty two percent silver and
fourteen percent tin due to the low copper content they are most susceptible to corrosion. Non gamma
2 amalgams have been developed but are found to release high levels of mercury vapor compared with

The ADA began to cite this as proof that amalgam fillings are stable and safe. Hal Huggins, DDS, an
American dentist suffering from MS met Brazilian dentist, Olympia Pinto, in 1973 at a conference in
Mexico City. Pinto surprised Huggins by telling him that amalgam fillings are unstable and mercury
from the amalgam can trigger illness such as Hodgkin s disease and sickle cell anemia. Dr. Pinto sent
Huggins many studies on amalgam research; Huggins learned about the amalgam health issue and

I Have An Assignment For You
I have an assignment for you that will be more challenging than pressing up into handstand or putting
both legs behind your head. In fact, you have to be a real yogi to accept. Are you ready? Here it is: Be
nice all day, from the moment you wake up until the moment you fall asleep. Be kind and generous in
your thoughts, speech actions and feelings. If it sounds easy and you don t believe me, try giving it a
shot before you shrug it off.
Because in between traffic jams, travel delays, dirty dishes, barking dogs, screaming babies, bills to
pay, laundry piles and a thousand other things that line your to do list, it can be easy to get annoyed or
frustrated with the world around you. Take time to reflect on your day so far. If you snapped at anyone
... judged someone harshly (including yourself) ... honked your horn in frustration ... or harbored
negativity of any kind ... then you failed the test already. See? It s not as easy as it seems to be
genuinely nice all day in every way. In fact, it might just be impossible.
After more than fifteen years of a steady Ashtanga Yoga practice, I now measure my success in the
practice of yoga by how long I m able to keep my emotional center spacious enough to be genuinely
kind. Trust me, it s almost easy to get on the mat and bend and twist your body in comparison. And it
is much harder to maintain a kind and generous heart in the face of adversity and stress.
But the real yoga happens off the mat.
The purpose of every yoga pose is really to

Art of Near East Royalties
Many people speculate on ancient artifacts with an eye towards its aesthetic value of contemporary
etic perspective. While most people are not professional anthropologists who would try to be an
anachronistic spectators of a so called unknown ancient society , the interesting historical and cultural
aspects are embedded within every art piece throughout the ancient world. The ancient near east
nations were characteristic in their own values just like any contemporary society, and they are worth
the discussion through various aspects such as cultural, ideological, and historical.
The first art piece called Ashurnasirpal II and a Winged Deity, discovered in Northern Iraq, Nimrud, in
9th century BC opens our exhibition of ancient near east art. The presence of many contents such as
artistic canon, hierarchy of scale and composite view is most correspondent to the characteristics of
Old Kingdom period of Egyptian art. The subject depicted in the panel is king Ashurnasirpal II on the
left and the winged deity, god Ashur. In addition to details, hierarchy of scale is used for clarification;
both king and the winged deity fully occupies the entire panel in absence of background features, and
the deity is shown to be slightly taller than king Ashurnasirpal ii, to clarify its identity. The hair, wings
and clothes in both subjects are very much stylized, not very naturalistic, with circular spots

Wildlife Animals And Indigenous People
Both wildlife animals and Indigenous people resided in Canada long before European colonization
took place, and both have suffered from these invaders oppressive practices as a result of the dispute
over territory. Because of this, many newcomers to Canada has this preconceived notion that the place
is only associated with vast wilderness landscapes and that wildlife is constitutive of Canadianness
(Francis 1997). This is played out in many Canadian films which portray stereotypical images of the
country. In particular, this essay will highlight Indigenous people and wildlife interaction with urban
spaces and the wilderness in The Wolfpen Principle (1974) and North of 60 (Southern Comfort), while
also exploring the conflict between urban dwellers and their environment. Most Canadian filmmakers
continuously depict the place as a wilderness area, filled with wild animals and Indigenous people.
This idea is socially constructed and is normalize to reinforce the idea that certain people and animals
should belong or excluded from nature and urban spaces. In parks, wolf tourism is usually portrayed
as a wilderness experience where humans dominate animals and nature. Yet, according to Kellert s
(1985) research, associating the wilderness with wolves has increased their stigmatization, thus
resulting conflicts over who belongs where. If the wolves are not exterminated, they are instead taken
from their natural environment and moved to an altered landscape where they have

Today, they are the first largest drugstore chain in the nation before CVS, Rite Aid, and Wal Mart.
Walgreens serves more than 6.3 million customers daily and fills 784 million prescriptions every year

While a large company, Walgreens is not the low cost leader in the industry and faces serious
competition from discounters, who are willing to accept lower margins on prescription drugs because
they can make up for lost profit in other categories. Walgreens probably will not match these prices,
meaning that Walgreens has chosen not to compete on price in its most important category. Since,
Walgreens cannot compete against discounters on price, the company has failed to fully exploit its
main advantage over these retailers, its ability to provide convenience to its customers. 2. While the
company is increasing the presence of 24 hour locations and drive thru facilities, the interior layout of
a Walgreens store does not always reflect its commitment to convenience. For example, Walgreens
stores in Salem, Oregon, appear crowded with merchandise, an atmosphere that is contrary to the
clean image of fast service that Walgreens would like to portray. There, upon entering a Walgreens
store, one encounters aisles of merchandise stacked to the ceiling. The first items evident are seasonal
merchandise and novelty goods. Health care items are not readily visible and are located toward the
rear of the store. The actual pharmacy may be located in the farthest corner from the door, without
distinct design or clear signage (Tran, 2011). As a company that attempts to set itself apart from
competitors by being the drugstore of convenience, this store layout and design directly

The Reflection Of The Human Eye Work
How does the human eye work?
The cornea is clear and at the front of the eye. When light rays enter it, the cornea refracts it through
the pupil and then the iris. The iris controls how much light may pass through the pupil by expanding
or shrinking. Next, the light ray will enter the lens. This also refracts light by changing its shape with
the help of the ciliary muscles and the suspensory ligaments. The light will go through a dense jelly
like tissue named the vitreous humour and eventually focused at the back of the eye onto the retina.
The retina is a light sensitive tissue and covered with rods and cones. These receptors will capture the
light ray and transform it into electrical impulses. They get sent off through the nerve fibres, then the
optic nerve, and then finally the brain. The picture given by the retina is upside down so our brain will
next turn it the right way up.
Our bodies have the capability to endure large scars but, a slight scar on the cornea can lead up to our
vision becoming impaired. The retina will process the light rays, into light impulses that need to be
transferred to the brain to create an image, which are focused on to them by the cornea. So, any deep
injures experienced by the cornea can lead to corneal scarring which would affect our vision.
Focusing on near and distant objects
People that have trouble focusing in near or a distant object is due the light rays entering their eyes are
unable to focus on the retina. This is a very common

What Is The Double Spiral Of Conflict
There are a lot of knowledgeable people who come together in a company to work towards a common
motive. All the workers, for exsample, in an oil refining company have a lot of knowledge, interest
and intelligence about the job. These factors lead the workers to be in different camps while working
and eventually cause separation due to their different views. The double spiral of conflict contains two
ends where the upper end explains some of the values that will bring back the parties together while
the other end strains the whole group to a downfall. When the two camps are separated, they will try
to create a conflict, and as both do not want to retreat, they see themselves as supposed to fight back
(Albrecht 58). Thinking of the double spiral

Oppression And Its Effect On Social And Economic Justice
Oppression is the use of power to dis empower, marginalize, silence or otherwise subordinate one
social group or category, often in order to further empower and/or privilege the oppressor. The
purpose for this article is to show how social workers are to avoid unintended collusion with pervasive
oppressive systems and if they are to be successful in promoting social and economic justice, a firm
grasp of the nature of oppression with its dynamics of power and its systemic character is required.
The concept of oppression is presented here, followed by discussion of its dynamics and common
elements and the need for social workers to engage in anti oppressive practice in order to expose and
oppose oppressive relationships and systemic power arrangements. The group that I believe is one of
the most at risks groups to suffer from many various forms of oppression. Despite the decades that
have passed since the beginning of the civil rights movement, racism is still a major issue in America.
We still see organized hate groups, news stories of racial slurs and attacks, and examples that we
observe in our everyday lives. So, what should social workers and the profession as a whole do about
it. This group is at risk because of the persistent and perennial challenges faced by African Americans
is that of cultural oppression. Although the effects of oppression on African Americans have received
enormous attention, much of the focus has been on political and economic oppression as the

Product Quality and Process Quality
Product quality
Quality is the measure of excellence or state of being free from deficiency, defects, and significant
variations , (Nader, 2009).
Quality of a product can be mainly assessed from a manufacturer and a customer point of view.
From a customer point of view, product quality is perspective as each individual perceives quality
differently. Ultimately, product quality is the capability of the product to fulfil customer expectations
as required from the users.
Quality from a manufacturer s perspective depends on company size, culture, financial resources,
human resources, market pressures and company strategy.

However, a cost benefit analysis is required to be carried out to determine if the extent of quality
assurance and quality control is beneficial to the business.
The final inspection of the product is used for quality assurance as well.
There is a fine balance between quality and cost of any product. If the product maintains a higher than
required quality and the cost is high due to this very requirement, demand will decrease. Therefore,
quality should be maintained at a level where it is sustainable so that a the product can be cost
effective to face a competitive market.
In the case study, Harris s team experiments with different techniques to reduce the time required to
prepare the chocolate at different stages of the process of chocolate making. It is clear that with the
changes in the processes of chocolate production, the final quality was sometimes so much affected
that the pioneers of the factory refused to endorse the change. This proves that there is an undeniable
interaction between product quality and process quality.
However, the decision was made to make changes in the process only after so many trials, testing and
tasting.
This demonstrates that,
In order to make a good quality product a series of quality processes are required.
To maintain quality process a series of quality control systems are required.
In a process quality control scheme the sequence of the steps

While we are playing games that have the teachers as one role and the students as another, we often
invite children to participate by allowing them to hold a teacher s hand and take on the teacher s role.
This can work, but sometimes is difficult and causes other problem. To address this, we could modify
our approach to supplying support to these children. Instead of letting them take on the role of the
teacher, we could allow the individuals in need of support to show a teacher how to take on the role of
the student. The teacher could then, support the child and the child could still participate with their
peers and continue the program. The children at CIPCC really like to interact and communicate with
the teachers and the UVM students from the Fit Kids program. I think that the most influential ways to
modify the games in this program will be to find unique alterations to address the individual needs of
the children who could likely benefit from Kiddie CATs the most. I will continue to be thinking of
modifications to allow this program to be more accessible and enjoyable to all children

Loyalty In Sophocles Antigone
Throughout history, scholars, poets, and socialites cite and argue multiple aspects within Sophocles
plays, which all contain a deluge of sentiments that permeate global society and culture. Riddled with
disparate interpretations and theories, Antigone sparks acrimonious debate regarding a plethora of its
details, such as characterization, theme, and undertone. Antigone, written by the Ancient Greek
playwright Sophocles, recounts the events of Oedipus daughter, Antigone, following her brothers
deaths. Sophocles manipulates Antigone s character to model the loyal, dutiful individual the Greeks
idolized in their religion and culture rather than formulating a realistic character who serves herself.
These attributes of loyalty and duty emerge ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
To illustrate, Antigone articulates to Ismene that Creon lacks the power to prohibit her from burying
Polyneices (Prologue, line 35). Disregarding Creon s powers, Antigone extends both her immaturity
and recklessness in amanner that both generates a hazy impression of Antigone s plausibility and
discredits her personality because of the seldom conflict between the king and women in Ancient
Greece. Furthermore, characters such as Eurydice and Jocasta, who experience much more tragedy,
diverge from Antigone in the course of their reactions. While Jocasta and Eurydice grieve for their
loved ones and succumb to the sorrow, Antigone s reaction exists at the opposite end of the spectrum
where she acts with the sole intent to spite Creon. Continuing, Antigone dictates that she is not afraid
of the danger; if it means death, / It will not be the worst of deaths death without honor (Prologue,
lines 80 81). Recognizing her inevitable fate, Antigone makes little effort to alter her actions or
consequences. Her proud acceptance of her death, which she claims to be one of honor, projects her
arrogance and stubbornness toward her situation. This immediate compliance fails to reflect the true
outlook and reaction toward approaching death both today and in her time. Additionally, the diatribe
provided by Antigone to the chorus near her death sparks much criticism when she asserts that she
prays Creon s punishment equals her own when the truth of her actions emerges (Scene 4, lines 67
69). Antigone s blatant assault on Creon s life conveys her ignorance, which also transmits the
impossibility of her individuality. Sophocles employs Antigone to generate the generalized perspective
of tyranny Conversely, many individuals justify Antigone s reckless behavior

Erving Goffman s Stigma And Social Identity
The main point Erving Goffman made in his article Stigma and Social Identity how different types of
stigma effect people in their daily life. You could be stigmatized in many different ways such as how
you look, if you are handicapped or not, or even if you are from a different ethnicity. Goffman defines
three different primary typologies of stigma and they are: (1) abomination of the body, which means
someone has physical disabilities, (2) Blemishes of individual character, meaning moral failing such
as rapist, sex offender, and (3) tribal stigma, meaning your ethnical background and religion (Pontell,
2016, p. 96 97). Goffman also talks about how the individuals, who are stigmatized by the society, feel

96 97). I personally think that blemishes of individual character and tribal stigma are both useful in
understanding the phenomenon of stigmatization, as both them play a key factor when someone is left
out. But I strongly believe that blemishes in individual character play a huge role when it comes to
stigmatization. I say this because now a days in a society if you are from a different ethnical
background, it would not hold you back in some opportunity and in some places it would but it is not
the same as it used to be back in the days. And as of individual who are handicapped are stigmatized
because we assume that he/she might not be able to do the job and somewhere I think that individuals
who are handicap might think the same for themselves and would be held back from opportunities.
But if you have a blemish in your character, such as if you are labeled as rapist or sex offender, you
are always going to be seen as a bad person. People around you are going to say hateful and mean
things about you and sometime with these labels you will not get a job easily. And the reason is that
the society is going to judge you and assume all the bad things you did, even though it might not have
been that

Summary Of Mother Who Gave Me Life By Gwen Harwood
The poem Mother Who Gave Me Life by Gwen Harwood, is about the speaker s mother and her life
that is near death. This focused universal thematic concern of motherhood is conveyed through a
reflective tone, as the speaker is seen to acutely contemplate her mother s life and the wisdom she has
been taught. Gwen Harwood uses a eulogy structure to undertow the reader s focus to the praise the
speaker has for her mother. As well as creatively embedding the use of enjambment, repetition and
metaphors, Harwood attempts to convey the emotion of the speaker reconciling her final moments
with her mother.
The reflective tone of the poem plays an important part in substantiating the eulogy structure
represented through the speaker. The importance of the title and implementations of enjambment as
well as a past tense structure help communicate the reflective tone of the poem. What define a
reflective tone is how it illustrates the emotions and thoughts of the speaker. The use of enjambment
offers an insight to the reader of the reflective, as thoughts can often be free flowing, just as
enjambment is deemed to be. By Harwood utlising enjambment throughout the poem, implies how the
speaker is reflecting on change throughout life. As the speaker matures throughout the poem, she

Spiral of Silence Theory
Spiral of Silence Theory Elizabeth Noelle Neumann s spiral of silence is a theory that was developed
in 1974 and as the founder and the director of the Public Opinion Research Center in Allensbach in
Germany; she has found evidence of how the spread of public opinion is formed. The term spiral of
silence refers to the increasing pressure people feel to conceal their views they think they are the
minority. People will be unwilling to publicly express their opinion if they are in the minority and they
will also be more vocal if they believe they are a part of the majority. Thus, the more marginalized you
become, the less you speak and so you spiral into a fully marginalized position. Neumann s claim are
based on previous collaborative ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It is used to reveal a series of factors that measures the likelihood that people will voice their opinions.
There are six factors and the first one is the most important: 1. Those who favor the majority position
are willing to express their voice more comfortably. Feeling in harmony with the spirit of the age
loosens the tongue. [Griffin, Em. Spiral of Silence. A First Look at Communciation Theory. 7th ed.
N.p.: McGraw Hill, n.d. N. pag. Print. 2. If perception of the present opinon does not match the
climate of the conversation, the willingness to speak will depend on how well the conversation
continues on. 3. People are more willing to speak if their views match their counterparts than to those
who disagree. 4. Low self esteem will cause a person to mute their opinion more often than others. 5.
Males, young adults, and people of the middle and upper classes tend to speak out more easily. 6.
Existing law encourages people to express their opinion when they feel outnumbered. The Supreme
Court s Roe v Wade is a good example. Now that we know the building blocks of the spiral of silence,
we can get to root of Noelle Neumann s model of her theory leading to her main point and the last
factor, fear of isolation. The fear of isolation is the centrifugal force that accelerates the spiral of
silence. Essentially, people fear becoming social isolates and thus take measures to avoid such a
consequence. Her assumption is drawn

page 39 it says, Sometimes that sick panicky feeling would flood over me like it did that night...My
solution was to stop leaving the house. Additionally, Jacob didn t try to resolve any problems instead
he would just get upset and make things worse. To prove this statement you can go to page 42 in the
book where it says, He sprang out of the chair and shoved me so hard I almost fell off the roof. I
yelled at him to get out but he was already leaving. This shows that Jacob just didn t want to deal with

Effects Of Bulimia On Teenagers
Bulimia s effect on teenagers Eating disorders are not a consequence of only one source, they are
caused by different factors. Physiological, psychological, social and cultural circumstances are the
main sources of these diseases. Anorexia and bulimia are the most common diseases among teenagers.
Anorexia is the needless loss of weight; it is more commonly presented in teenage girls. On the other
hand, Bulimia can be described as the action of binge eating followed by purging. Bulimia is a severe
issue among society due to the reason that it affects a big portion of the adolescent population of the
world. The effects of bulimia range from physical to mental issues. Bulimia is caused by many factors.
The most important one is low self esteem from the teenagers; they compare themselves to the many
different images of perfection social media displays to them. Social pressure, or peer pressure, has a
significant effect on the teenage minds and often drives teenagers to develop symptoms of bulimia.
Toxic social environments can range from the classroom to their own home. Often times what might
appear to others as harmless criticism can be extremely detrimental to a teenager s self image and
cause them to develop symptoms of bulimia. According to studies conducted by the Mayo clinic
simply being a female teenager significantly increases your chances of developing bulimia. In the
modern day, teens admire and pursue the path of several famous people. The majority of

Comparing Christian Beliefs Of The Bible, Jesus, And God
Christianity and Islam are two of the most popular religions in world. Everyone, from East to West,
knows about these religions because of their historical impact and their continued influence today.
However, even though Christianity and Islam are two of the most popular religions, many people
know little about them, especially their similarities. This essay will discuss how Islam and Christianity
are similar but different in their views of the Bible, Jesus, and God.
First off, let s begin by comparing the Islamic and Christian beliefs of the Bible. For Christians the
Bible is their holy text and the word of God, while the Islamic belief is that the Bible is the word of
prophets and it has been corrupted by the centuries; there are multiple versions of the Bible and it has
been mistranslated. Also, Muslims only find truth in the Bible if it agrees with the Qur an. Although
Muslims do not hold it to the same degree of importance as the Christians do, it is still regarded as a
holy text in both religions.
Secondly, Christianity and Islam have similar but also very different views on Jesus. Islam and
Christianity both believe that Jesus was born from a virgin mother and that Jesus performed miracles.
However, in Christian belief Jesus was God in a human vessel and he died on the cross to forgive ...

of the Holy Trinity is that God is the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit; He is not three separate gods
or one God in three forms. Although they differ in their belief of the Holy Trinity, they both believe
that there is only one God in existence. That is why Muslims believe that both Christians and Muslims
worship the same God, because there is only one God in

Compare And Contrast Classical And Classical Theory
One of the fundamental theories of criminal behavior is the classical theory. This theory dates to the
18th century with philosopher Cesare Beccaria, who stated that human behavior is driven by the
choice (Bartol Bartol, 2017). The process of making a choice is made through balancing the weight of
pleasure to be gained, against the amount pain or punishment expected by the act. This concept can
also be thought of as free will. Free will is found in the beginning of the Bible, in the Garden of Eden.
Adam and Eve were told they could not eat from the Tree of Good and Evil. Before eating of the tree
Eve was presented with a choice, she could obey God or disobey him. Through disobedience she was
promised by the serpent that she would gain knowledge. The serpent told her that if she ate of the tree
that, your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil (Genesis 3:5, New
Revised Standard Version). However, she knew that disobedience could result in death as she had been
cautioned by God, for in the day that you eat of it you shall die (Genesis 2:17, NRSV). Before
choosing to eat the fruit, similar to the classical theory of crime, Eve had to balance the pleasure to be
gained versus the punishment. Despite being forbidden to eat from the tree, Eve made the choice to
disobey God.
While classical theory resonates in the Bible, regarding man s free will. I personally lean towards a
combination of the classical theory and the positivist theory.

Analysis Of Do Not Go Gentle Into That Good Night, By...
My interpretation of the two poems, And Death Shall Have No Dominion and Do Not Go Gentle into
That Good Night by Dylan Thomas, significantly align with the view that there is an inherent tension
between life and death which is explored through imagery in Dylan Thomas poetry. This is because of
the ideas explored in the poems, death should have no dominion/control/authority and that death is the
fate of all humans. Dylan Thomas illustrates these ideas by using poetic techniques, including
imagery.

The idea of death being the fate of all humans is expressed in this poem, it depicts the tension between
life and death. Dylan Thomas uses parallelism, symbolism and oxymorons to express this idea. Dylan
Thomas illustrates the idea of death being the fate of all humans by using parallelism. Thomas uses
parallelism in each stanza when naming the type of men; wise men, good men, wild men and grave
men. Thomas states that all these men will fall into death in the end. The symbolism here expresses
the idea of death being the fate for all humans. The line Old age should burn and rave close of day
symbolises the idea. This is because close of day symbolises death and old age is a metonymy. The
use of poetic devices here creates vivid images of life and death. In the last stanza, Thomas knows that
death is the fate of his father, Curse, bless, me now with with your fierce tears, I pray. The two
oxymorons here cure, bless and fierce tears give enrichment to the tension of life and death. The
inherent tension between life and death is explored throughout Do Not Go Gentle Into That Good

Queen Lili uokalani Essay example
Queen Lili uokalani had ambitious plans for the nation of Hawaii, and wanted to see the rightful
power of the monarch restored. Even though she was doing what she thought was best for the people
of Hawaii, her dream was never meant to be. She would become known as the last queen ever to reign
over the Hawaiian Islands.
In the beginning, Hawaii was unknown to any humans. Polynesians eventually came across its islands,
and decided to make it their home. In the early days, each island was ruled by a chief, and many times
the islands were in conflict with each other. Centuries like this passed, but then in 1782, [Queen Lili
uokalani s] cousin Kamehameha set out to conquer and unite the islands . Thirteen years later, in 1795,

Lili uokalani found the school food tasteless and the portions too small. (Guzzetti 14)
Not only did the Cookes teach the children American ways, but they also taught them Christian
beliefs, making them abandon their polytheistic religious views. Lili uokalani also learned how to
speak English at the school which became an asset to her when she was later to become queen. She
studied music as well, and down the road she became a renowned Hawaiian singer and songwriter. In
the mid 1880 s she published the song Aloha Oe meaning Farewell to Thee, which became one of the
most famous pieces of music ever written in Hawaii. (Guzzetti 14, 15, 22, 23)
Aloha Oe did not give Lili uokalani all of her fame. What did, of course, was the fact that she became
a queen. The monarchy began with Kamehameha s conquering and uniting of all the Hawaiian Islands
(Guzzetti 10). After Kamehameha s death in 1819, his son, Liholiho assumed the title Kamehameha II.
During a trip to London to visit the King of England in the summer of 1824, Kamehameha II and his
wife, Queen Kamamalu contracted the measles and both died. Kamehameha II s younger, nine year
old brother was proclaimed Kamehameha III. When he died in 1854, after a thirty year

Kolin s Writing Techniques
When writing procedures you should use the same strategies as with writing instructions. As noted by
Kolin although procedures and instructions are different. An introduction should make the reader feel
comfortable and well prepared before getting into policies so that they are more inclined to accept,
approve or follow the policies. By just saying here s what you need to do , this email s introduction is
too straight forward, direct and has a demanding tone. Using the right style and tone is needed to
turning the policy into effective action. Kolin states that deleting you will not be discourteous as it
would be in a business letter or business report. To set commands in this email the writer should have
replaced you with imperative verbs.

Brady Tragic Hero
Jerome Lawrence and Robert E. Lee s drama Inherit the Wind depicts the story of the Scopes Monkey
Trial. It takes place in a small religious community where talking about evolution is against the law. A
schoolteacher within the town had been caught teaching Darwinism to his science class, which drew
attention from people all over the country. A famous lawyer named Henry Drummond arrived to
defend him, while a man named Matthew Harrison Brady, a well liked religious figure, visited to
prosecute him. It could be argued that Brady possessed the traits of a tragic hero, which is a flawed
character that suffers for his beliefs. Brady s choices and ways make him fit the traits of a tragic hero.

Mrs. Brady mentioned the doctor warning Brady about overheating. He let his appetite control him,

The Chinese Communist government has complete power over the legislation, economic and cultural
institutions. While western economies have governments that promote transparency for doing
business, China s Communist Party s rules and regulations have made transparency difficult
(Jayaraman, 2009). Large manufacturing companies can come under various and random regulations
and bureaucracies, and the Chinese promotes a form of social networking called guanxiwang, where
guanxi is the relationship between the individual and the entities of the network (Jayaraman, 2009).
With the heavy amount of corruption and the lack of transparency the guanxiwang or the social

Difference Between Inclusion And IEA

Inclusion and IDEA provide the child with a plan of services called the Individualized Education

Exercising for hours, starving one s self, crash diets and fixatedly recording and calculating calories
are some of the processes people go through to achieve society s perception of the idealistic body
type. Throughout history in the western culture and cultures around the world this emphasis on the
perfect body is associated with being successful, having wealth and other socially desirable traits.
Because society constructs this image that is considered to be the norm some individuals strive at all

growing numbers displaying signs of body dissatisfaction. In society woman were the stereotypical
view of an eating disorder or any harmful behavior in efforts to achieve the perfect body image but the
article presents a paradigm shift, were males are suffering just as much or even more than females.
Pope, Olivardia, Gruber, Borowiecki (1998), suggests that perhaps the perception of body image and
their disturbances are indigenous to American culture predominantly. The suggestion is supported with
evidence of a cross cultural comparison to college men in America and Austria, American college men
reported having a significantly greater dissatisfaction with themselves then Austrian college men.
Agreeably, yes American culture places a strong emphasis on body images because television shows,
magazine, dolls, actors and celebrities continuously portray the ideal human physique but it needs to
be noted that every culture has a perspective of beauty that shapes the behaviors and minds of persons
in that region, it may not be as candid as American culture but it still exists and influences

The Legality Of Planned Parenthood
Abortion is a controversial topic in the United States, causing a split debate on the morality of
allowing women to continue aborting babies up until 22 weeks of gestation and the argument that
abortion should not be allowed on any circumstances excluding rape, incest or the health of the
mother. These situations are complex and many women have strong opinions and they use the terms
Prolife or Prochoice to explain their position on the matter. Planned Parenthood is the primary location
where women can carry out the termination of their pregnancy. Abortion is always a political issue
during election time so the legality of Planned Parenthood is constantly being inspected.
Margaret Sanger started the birth control movement in the early 1910 s and advocated for the right of
contraception during sex. After her founding of Parenthood in 1916, It led to major modifications in
the laws governing birth control and sex education in the United States. Planned Parenthood originally
went by the name Birth Control Clinical Research Bureau but later formed with the American Birth
Control League (ABCL) which eventually evolved itself to become a center advocating for women s
health with a primary focus on providing abortions for women ( History of Planned Parenthood ).
Previously, this right was illegal for women, so they were forced to bear children for their husband,
whom had a strong control over the woman. Sanger became passionate on this subject because she

A Job As A Pharmacist
You will never know whether you like that job or not until you really have a chance to observe and get

without any mistake is what she has to do every day. However, that is just a part of this job. Being a

Implementation of the system to contain costs for voluntary health insurance does not mean that

in Corinth, Greece; he wrote about how love has do with the individual not God. These authors
contradict each other s claim: Doctorow disproves Rushdie s claim with religion causes freedom to

Doctorow claims the people of the United States want religion because it is an escape from society s
issues. In addition, the word infidels means one who doubts or rejects central trends of one s religion,
but this word is used more towards Christianity and Islam. However, the United States is made of
many different religions that people look over, such as: The Shakers, Swendenborgians, and
Adventists. Due to the religious freedom in America the nation is filled with a variety of praying,
singing and studying that are practiced by millions. Because of these varieties, many religions
developed in the U.S such as: Mormonism, Christian Science and Native American
Anthropomorphism. It s not about the United States being full of infidels it s about how the United
States decided to keep religion and politics separate. A lot of what Doctorow mentions goes against
what Rushdie ideas of religion are. Rushdie mentions in a sarcastic way that victors of war can t be
close minded because they have God on their side. Basically, saying that those who believe in God
tend to be close minded. In addition, Rushdie things freedom is restricted by religious rule. Doctorow

Selling A Home Is A Real Estate Agent Essay
Selling a home can be a daunting task for a professional real estate agent. With property promotion,
open houses and a fluctuating market, trial and error usually wins out over book knowledge and
written rules. But, what about the homeowner who decides to sell their home without the help of a
professional. Believe it or not, you may find some of your greatest help in comp homes. When placing
your home on the market for sale, you will inevitably look in your neighborhood for other comp
homes also for sale. Competitively pricing your home will draw in potential buyers more quickly than
pricing your home out of the range of other comp homes in the area. This pricing model only works if
you can find a comp home in your neighborhood. But, how will you know if a home is comparable?
Homeowners should always look at their rival competition for help in selling a home. Visiting the
open houses of other homes in the area, or arranging for a walk through with the owners or real estate
agent handling the sale, will help you to gauge the home s condition, in comparison to your home.
This tactic is also helpful for homeowners selling a home without a real estate agent. Seeing how a
real estate agent offers the information about the comp home, viewing the real estate agent s fliers and
promotion sheets, as well as, seeing the changes or key points a real estate agent stresses during a
walk through will help you to better understand how you should be handling those aspects of your
sale.

  • 2. Overview of the Arab Culture Essay Name of Culture Arab is not a race, but is a group of individuals that are united by their culture and history (ADC, 2014). There are many different variations commonly based on a particular individual s country of origin such as Arab Americans. Other variations are based on their social class, the level of their education, if they live urbanely or rurally, or the time they have spent in the United States (Lipson Dubble, 2007). Most Arabs also practice Islamic religion and are Muslim. When working with an Arab or Muslim client, nurses should ask what the client wishes to be referred to so as not to offend them in any way (Lipson Dubble, 2007). Countries of Origin There are 22 countries in the Middle East and North Africa that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... If unsure how to address the patient, the nurse should ask how a friend or distant relative would address them. Adults and elderly may have other preferences like mother or father, followed by the first name of their eldest son. When approaching an Arab, it is acceptable to shake their hand, smile, and offer direct eye contact. Although the patient may avoid these gestures, they are not viewed as offensive (Lipson Dubble, 2007). Historical Background Prompting Immigration Arabs began arriving in the United States in the early 1800s. The first large wave arrived between 1887 1913. Many single, uneducated men were included in this large wave if immigrants. They were arriving from Greater Syria in search of a better job and a higher standard of living (Lipson Dubble, 2007). The next wave of Arab immigrants came to the United States from 1940 1970. In some cases, this relationship is viewed as one that is harmonious and beneficial to large communities of people. However, that exact relationship could also be scrutinized as one that is extremely discordant to other communities. Green Day happens to fall precisely in the middle of that musical spectrum, depending on who is asked. Regardless of opinion, songs are much more than just music and are essentially retained as pieces of history. These songs help showcase the trends, behaviors, and even struggles of different time periods. With that being said, one may ask What all did the musical group Green Day contribute to society? . Green Day is a pop punk/alternative rock band formed in 1986. The band consists of three members: Billie Joe Armstrong (lead singer), Mike Dirnt (bass and backing vocals), and Tré Cool (drums and percussion). The band known as Green Day originally formed in Berkeley, California by Armstrong and Dirnt, and was initially titled Sweet Children. The two were only fourteen years old at the time they founded their band. In 1988, Lookout! Records owner, Larry Livermore, signed a deal with the group to be part of his label. Shortly after being signed, the band s name was changed to Green Day as a result of Armstrong s and Dirnt s love for marijuana (also to prevent confusion with another west coast pop punk band, Sweet Baby). It was not openly embraced by organized dentistry in America until the 1840s. The Crawcour brothers brought amalgam into the United States in 1833. Half of the people with dental restorations in upstate New York consisted of amalgam in 1844. The American Society of Dental Surgeons made all of the members to sign a pledge that restricted them from using mercury fillings, because at the time it was considered to be malpractice. That created the first dental amalgam war, but it ended in 1856 with cancelation of the association. In 1859 the American Dental Association (ADA) was founded and took the place of the American Society of Dental Surgeons. The ADA strongly defended amalgam from the allegations of being too risky from the health standpoint. In 1930 the ratio of the mercury to the remaining metallic mixture was sixty six to thirty three. In fact, you have to be a real yogi to accept. Are you ready? Here it is: Be nice all day, from the moment you wake up until the moment you fall asleep. Be kind and generous in your thoughts, speech actions and feelings. If it sounds easy and you don t believe me, try giving it a shot before you shrug it off. Because in between traffic jams, travel delays, dirty dishes, barking dogs, screaming babies, bills to pay, laundry piles and a thousand other things that line your to do list, it can be easy to get annoyed or frustrated with the world around you. Wildlife Animals And Indigenous People Both wildlife animals and Indigenous people resided in Canada long before European colonization took place, and both have suffered from these invaders oppressive practices as a result of the dispute over territory. This is played out in many Canadian films which portray stereotypical images of the country. In particular, this essay will highlight Indigenous people and wildlife interaction with urban spaces and the wilderness in The Wolfpen Principle (1974) and North of 60 (Southern Comfort), while also exploring the conflict between urban dwellers and their environment. Most Canadian filmmakers continuously depict the place as a wilderness area, filled with wild animals and Indigenous people. This idea is socially constructed and is normalize to reinforce the idea that certain people and animals should belong or excluded from nature and urban spaces. • 11. The Reflection Of The Human Eye Work How does the human eye work? The cornea is clear and at the front of the eye. When light rays enter it, the cornea refracts it through the pupil and then the iris. The iris controls how much light may pass through the pupil by expanding or shrinking. Next, the light ray will enter the lens. This also refracts light by changing its shape with the help of the ciliary muscles and the suspensory ligaments. The light will go through a dense jelly like tissue named the vitreous humour and eventually focused at the back of the eye onto the retina. The retina is a light sensitive tissue and covered with rods and cones. These receptors will capture the light ray and transform it into electrical impulses. They get sent off through the nerve fibres, then the optic nerve, and then finally the brain. The picture given by the retina is upside down so our brain will next turn it the right way up. Our bodies have the capability to endure large scars but, a slight scar on the cornea can lead up to our vision becoming impaired. The retina will process the light rays, into light impulses that need to be transferred to the brain to create an image, which are focused on to them by the cornea. So, any deep injures experienced by the cornea can lead to corneal scarring which would affect our vision. Antigone, written by the Ancient Greek playwright Sophocles, recounts the events of Oedipus daughter, Antigone, following her brothers deaths. Furthermore, characters such as Eurydice and Jocasta, who experience much more tragedy, diverge from Antigone in the course of their reactions. While Jocasta and Eurydice grieve for their loved ones and succumb to the sorrow, Antigone s reaction exists at the opposite end of the spectrum where she acts with the sole intent to spite Creon. Continuing, Antigone dictates that she is not afraid of the danger; if it means death, / It will not be the worst of deaths death without honor (Prologue, lines 80 81). Recognizing her inevitable fate, Antigone makes little effort to alter her actions or consequences. Her proud acceptance of her death, which she claims to be one of honor, projects her arrogance and stubbornness toward her situation. This immediate compliance fails to reflect the true outlook and reaction toward approaching death both today and in her time. Additionally, the diatribe provided by Antigone to the chorus near her death sparks much criticism when she asserts that she prays Creon s punishment equals her own when the truth of her actions emerges (Scene 4, lines 67 69). I say this because now a days in a society if you are from a different ethnical background, it would not hold you back in some opportunity and in some places it would but it is not the same as it used to be back in the days. The term spiral of silence refers to the increasing pressure people feel to conceal their views they think they are the minority. People will be unwilling to publicly express their opinion if they are in the minority and they will also be more vocal if they believe they are a part of the majority. This theory dates to the 18th century with philosopher Cesare Beccaria, who stated that human behavior is driven by the choice (Bartol Bartol, 2017). The process of making a choice is made through balancing the weight of pleasure to be gained, against the amount pain or punishment expected by the act. This concept can also be thought of as free will. Free will is found in the beginning of the Bible, in the Garden of Eden. Adam and Eve were told they could not eat from the Tree of Good and Evil. Before eating of the tree Eve was presented with a choice, she could obey God or disobey him. Through disobedience she was promised by the serpent that she would gain knowledge. The serpent told her that if she ate of the tree that, your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil (Genesis 3:5, New Revised Standard Version). However, she knew that disobedience could result in death as she had been cautioned by God, for in the day that you eat of it you shall die (Genesis 2:17, NRSV). Before choosing to eat the fruit, similar to the classical theory of crime, Eve had to balance the pleasure to be gained versus the punishment. Despite being forbidden to eat from the tree, Eve made the choice to disobey God. While classical theory resonates in the Bible, regarding man s free will. I personally lean towards a combination of the classical theory and the positivist theory. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 24. Analysis Of Do Not Go Gentle Into That Good Night, By... My interpretation of the two poems, And Death Shall Have No Dominion and Do Not Go Gentle into That Good Night by Dylan Thomas, significantly align with the view that there is an inherent tension between life and death which is explored through imagery in Dylan Thomas poetry. This is because of the ideas explored in the poems, death should have no dominion/control/authority and that death is the fate of all humans. Dylan Thomas illustrates these ideas by using poetic techniques, including imagery. The idea of death being the fate of all humans is expressed in this poem, it depicts the tension between life and death. Dylan Thomas uses parallelism, symbolism and oxymorons to express this idea. Dylan Thomas illustrates the idea of death being the fate of all humans by using parallelism. Thomas uses parallelism in each stanza when naming the type of men; wise men, good men, wild men and grave men. Thomas states that all these men will fall into death in the end. The symbolism here expresses the idea of death being the fate for all humans. The line Old age should burn and rave close of day symbolises the idea. This is because close of day symbolises death and old age is a metonymy. The use of poetic devices here creates vivid images of life and death. In the last stanza, Thomas knows that death is the fate of his father, Curse, bless, me now with with your fierce tears, I pray. The two oxymorons here cure, bless and fierce tears give enrichment to the tension of life and death. The inherent tension between life and death is explored throughout Do Not Go Gentle Into That Good Night due to the idea of death being the fate of all humans and the techniques ... Even though she was doing what she thought was best for the people of Hawaii, her dream was never meant to be. She would become known as the last queen ever to reign over the Hawaiian Islands. In the beginning, Hawaii was unknown to any humans. Polynesians eventually came across its islands, and decided to make it their home. In the early days, each island was ruled by a chief, and many times the islands were in conflict with each other. Centuries like this passed, but then in 1782, [Queen Lili uokalani s] cousin Kamehameha set out to conquer and unite the islands . Thirteen years later, in 1795, Kamehameha ... Lili uokalani also learned how to speak English at the school which became an asset to her when she was later to become queen. She studied music as well, and down the road she became a renowned Hawaiian singer and songwriter. It had to have been a repeated behavior, since Mrs. Brady mentioned the doctor warning Brady about overheating.
