Similarities Between Jazz And Hip-Hop Music
This paper will highlight the similarities between jazz and hip hop music. African American cultural
forms and developments are as vast as they are diverse. However, because of white America s
consistently racist and oppressive treatment of people of color in this country there are certain
commonalities between African American cultures as a result of this continuous subordination. I am
going to display some of these existing similarities within hip hop and jazz cultures. Albeit they are
both musically and culturally different, each emerging out of a specific historical moment with its own
distinct musical and cultural practices, there exists enough similarities between that two that it seems a
comparison is indeed beneficial in understanding and examining American society in general. The
similarities between the two African American cultures is also quite great. I will ask and answer
questions such as: what were the effects the urban ghettos from which both of these cultures arose out
of had upon their initial development, and what are some ways in which the music of both of these
cultures is a form of alternative and self empowering language?
Throughout the history of this country, the music of Afro Americans has remained a strong influence
upon our society and culture. Beginning with the music carried over from Africa with the slaves, up
until now, with the new styles created by urban youth today, African Americans have retained certain
elements within their music which

How Did The U.s. Expand Westward And What Was Its Impact...
PURPOSE 1
Question: How did the U.S. expand westward and what was its impact on Native Americans?
Answer: The United States began expanding westward during the 1800s. During the early 1800s,
America turned its attention towards the exploration and settlement of its Western territory. The
amount of land had been greatly increased by the Louisiana Purchase of 1803, which almost doubled
the size of the nation. Later on, the size of the United States increased yet again with the Mexican
Cession and the Gadsden Purchase. From these, the United States gained California, Nevada, Utah,
Texas, and parts of Arizona, New Mexico, Colorado, and Wyoming. Settlers swept westward,
encouraged by the federal government. The government created the Homestead Act, which offered
160 acres of cheap land in the West under the condition that the settlers had to work the land for 5
years. As the Western territories became more and more developed, Native Americans and their
culture were slowly destroyed through laws such as the Indian Removal Act and the Dawes Act.
Native Americans were forced onto small reservations and their children were then forcibly
assimilated into white American culture in order to make room for the white settlers.
PURPOSE 2
Question: Why did nations desire to expand and gain power through imperialism?
Answer: There were many philosophies about the way that America should interact with other
countries. Some people felt that America should remain isolationist, avoiding

Birth Defects Of Babies Are Serious Functional Or...
Birth defects in babies are serious functional or structural abnormalities that are present at birth in 3%(
approximately 120,000 (Simeone 1104) ) of infants in the United States each year. There are quite a
few different types of defects that you may not even be able to see on the infant at first. It could be
something developmental that will only get worse as they get older. If you believe that birth defects
are only caused by women doing illegal drugs and drinking while pregnant, you re wrong. It could be
a complete genetic disorder that the baby has inherited or a chromosome problem where the baby is
missing even just a part or a whole chromosome and in some cases gains an extra. Sometimes before
the baby, is born you are able to do ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It could be very mild and be solved with therapy, or there are some extreme cases that need surgery as
soon as the child is born. Spina Bifida is another common structural defect that is very serious and it
messes with spine. There is a three different types of spina bifida; the first type is Myelomeningocele
which is where the baby s spine doesn t completely close. With this condition, a sac of fluid comes
through an opening in the baby s back. Part of the spinal cord and nerves are in this sac and are
damaged. This type of spina bifida causes moderate to severe disabilities. (CDC) The next type is
meningocele this has some similarities to the first type with the sac but with this the spine isn t in the
sac, this type will only have some minor disabilities. The final type is Spina Bifida Occulta which is
the more mild out of the three. This is where there is only a small gap in the baby s back with no sac.
This is harder to find in infants usually is isn t even discovered until people are young adults, not
many disabilities are caused by this type. There is not only common structural defects, but also
developmental or functional defects. A well known type that affects the nervous system is Down
Syndrome. This is when people either have an extra piece on a chromosome or they have a whole
extra chromosome number 21. It is the most common chromosomal cause of mild to moderate
intellectual disabilities. People

John Smith Abandonment Of Virginia
In this document, John Smith describes the abandonment of their colony in Virginia during a long
period of not having food. Smith took his men and sailed back to England, where he described, in
third person, what is was like before they left. The day before Captain Smith returned for England
with the ships, Captain Davis arrived in a small Pinace with some sixteene proper men more (Smith,
27). Captain Smith had previously thought that they would rely on the Patawomeke tribe to trade with
them so they wouldn t have to plant any food, however, Smith was wrong and found out the hard way
that the Patawomeke would just ignore them instead. Smith s men would suffer during the Winter
months, and go on to say, we had nothing but mortall wounds,

History Of King Richard IIi Of England
History is not all that it is cracked up to be. If a person believes himself/herself to be logical, it is easy
to assume that researchers of history and authors of historical works are ethical and do their best. This
is not a conclusion that is borne out by the facts. The case of the written history of King Richard III of
England is an outstanding example of the lack of adequate research and actual perfidy on the part of
historians. Richard III reigned for a brief period in the late 15th century, 26 June 1483 to 22 August
1485. He was the last Yorkist king and the last of the Plantagenet kings. He traced his ancestry to
William the Conquerer. He was also the last English king to die in battle. He was succeeded on the
throne by Henry the VII, the first of the Tudor line who ruled England for the next 118 years. With the
death of Richard there were, for all intents and purposes, no Yorkist contenders for the throne. (There
were a couple of incidents with pretenders, but these were quickly and violently put down.) As a
result, Henry was able to concentrate on his duties as king. As monarchs and heads of state do right up
to the present, Henry made sure he was presented in the best light possible, and that Richard was
portrayed as a really bad guy. It seems as if this got a little out of hand, and there is no question that
Henry and his successors did nothing to rein in the writers of the time. Chief among these authors was
none other than William Shakespeare,

A Model For Computer Systems Research
The author of this paper focusses on developping a model for computer systems research. He presents
data to show that the merit of the paper is dependent on variability between reviewers and is zipf
distributed. The author proves, with the help of game theory, that with noisy reviews and zipf merrit,
the authors have an incentive to sumit the papers too early and too often which makes the conference
reviewing and systems research as a whole less efficient. The popularity of peer to peer systems are
reflects its potential to provide scalable performance and high degree of robustness for a variety of
applications. This paper focusses on another peer to peer system, the systems research community
since there are many similarities between system research community and peer peer system. They lack
central control. Progress occurs through the individual researchers interacting through the conference
publication system.
In this paper the author uses peer peer systems to develop a model of computer systems research
conferences. The author believes that, the current practice of computer systems research is harmfull in
two ways. Conference program committees spend enormous amount of time on what ends up for
many papers being close to a random throw of dice. Worse conference reviewing encourages
misdirected effort, by research community that slows down research process. By illuminating the
above two issues the author hope to reduce their impact. He also provides some suggestion to

Occupational Psychology
Occupational stress in an increasing topic and focus where stress is concern in the workplace. More
and more people are becoming ill due to work and have to take a number of sick days to recupriate for
more work hours. What causes this is based on a number of factors which researchers are aiming at
looking into, hence the increase of interest in the field of occupational psychology. Occupational
psychology, as the British Psychology Society puts it, is the attempt or aim of giving workers the
satisfaction of working in an effective and safe like environment. Occupational psychologists goal is
to improve and maintain the working environment for employees which would limit the cause of
stress in the workplace and eliminating illness.
The article, Occupational ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Therefore, the more hours work equal to the more impact occupational stress would have on the
person. Take for example someone who work 40 hours a week, which is the typical timeframe. This
person is influence by work for almost 24% of their week. 24% is a lot of time, that is one quarter of a
person time in work for the week. A lot of influence is being place in the person life and so there is a
lot of room, a lot of time and a lot of influence that the workplace can have on a person health.
Occupational stress should not be taken lightly or seem as minimum stress because it have 24% of a
person time. This is why employees are encourage to take vacation every year and utilize their sick
days to recupirate and allow their body to relax and be away form the stress work environment.
Whitbourne (2010) emphasis that vacation is needed and vital to break the stress cycle persons may
experience in work. Allowing your body to relax by enjoying liesure time such as golfing encourages
the body to relax, which she said creates a better relationship with those around you. Taking vacation
from work, or from stress, is

Theory Of Games And Economic Behaviour
Although rationality provides the foundation for behavioural decision theory, current findings suggest
that heuristics and biases have a significant impact on individual decision making. Rationality can
only go so far in explaining individual decision making.
A large part of early research into decision theory was based on the economic or normative approach,
which tries to predict the actions of a so called rational decision maker . Although Bernoulli (1738)
was the first to introduce the concept of utility into decision making, it was Von Neumann and
Morgenstern s book, Theory of Games and Economic Behaviour which revolutionised the idea of a
rational decision process. Von Neumann and Morgenstern (1947) explicitly outlined the ... Show more

In contrast, EU theory suggests people have different attitudes toward risk some would be risk averse
and prefer the guaranteed payment, even though the expected value is lower, while others would
choose the riskier bet. However, EU Theory and the normative approach to decision making are not
without criticisms. As with every mathematical model, EU theory is a simplified representation of
reality and does not guarantee reliable predictions of human behaviour. Indeed, empirical evidence
suggests the existence of systematic deviations from rationality. As Dawes (1988) wrote, People,
groups, organizations, and governments make choices. Sometimes the consequences of their decisions
are desirable, sometimes not (p. 2). Hence it can be argued that decision making is not purely rational
(where rationality is defined as the decision predicted by EU Theory).
In in attempt to create a more psychologically accurate description of decision making, Kahneman and
Tversky (1979) developed Prospect Theory, which theorized that individuals have different
perceptions when considering losses versus gains. In contrast to EU Theory, which suggests we make
decisions that maximise our utility, research by Kahneman and Tversky (1979) found that information
is not processed in such a rational way. For example, according to EU Theory, the amount of utility
gained by receiving $200 should be equal to receiving $300 and losing $100 as in both situations

The Two Main Networks Of The Human Nervous System
The human nervous system is divided into two main networks that work in harmony with each other.
First, the Central Nervous System that consists of the brain and the spinal cord, and the Peripheral
Nervous System that is made up of the nerves comings out of that Central Nervous System. The
Central Nervous System s main task is to integrate sensory information that the Peripheral Nervous
System collects from all over the body and responds to it by coordinating both conscious and
unconscious activity. In the Central Nervous System, the brain is responsible for sorting through all in
coming sensory information, giving orders to other parts of the body, and carries out the complex
functions of thinking, feeling and remembering. While, the spinal

Personal Narrative
There s nothing like summer to make you realize the tediousness of life. You go every day of school
waiting for it to be over, just for summer to start up and start the whole cycle all over again. By the
time May came around, I wanted to get away from everything. I only hung out with my friends two
times the whole summer. Hell, even that surprised me. I had to keep myself occupied. If I stopped for
one second then I d start to think and if I started to think I d spiral down further and further. No, I
needed to be busy. I got a job for just such a reason. I got a job helping out at my mom s church. I was

If nothing else, it came as a welcomed escape from work, which had devoured the majority of my
summer like an angry grizzly. We spent the next few days in relative bliss, only getting upset once
over, you guessed it, the rules of water balloons. We embarked on a variety of adventures through the
forest, including going to shoot cans with my brother s bee bee gun and terrifying each other with a
ghost story about our friend Clint. Eventually, we all parted our separate ways, and I was back to my
usual routine of spending all my free time either working at the church or working out at the gym with
my eldest brother, Josh. I somehow fit in a few hours a week to teach myself to play guitar, and by the
end of the summer I d learned three songs by my favorite band, Blink 182. Near the end of June, we

Inner Cities And Its Impact On Society Essay
America has had an extensive relationship with her inner cities. Inner cities were and are the backbone
to America and her achievements. The cities assisted in the mass production of the automobile
industry, the destruction of the tyranny known as the Nazi Empire, and are the center piece for
businesses today. The inner cities had a reduction in employment during the 2008 financial crisis,
leaving the cities and their inhabitants in shambles. This not only affected jobs and parents, but the
children as well. This was unfortunate because the cities that built America were now spilt into two
parts. One part became an area of bustling traffic and lively people, the other underprivileged
individuals with no source of income due to financial collapse of their places of employment. Inner
city children face an abundant number of obstacles in their lives being raised in these low income
areas. These areas have become poverty stricken and are being ignored by the government. Without
assistance, whether from the state or the federal level of government, certain factors of their lives are
being neglected. Some of the factors that are detrimental to the children are the inadequate educational
programs, lack of attendance at school, and parent involvement, lack of availability of nutritional
produce and a higher rate of exposure to crime.
The children in inner cities are demonstrating issues with attendance this is detrimental to success
because missing days directly impacts

Métis Argumentative Essay
I believe the Métis became the least unified as the result of confederation.
To begin with, in 1869, The Government of Canada, Great Britain, and the Hudson s Bay Company
sign an agreement whereby Rupert s land is sold to the Dominion of Canada. Métis, Indians, and
settlers are not consulted. And this event affects at least 10,000 Metis and other people who already
living in Rupert s land.
Secondly, Louis Riel is the leader of the Metis people, Louis Riel intervened. Believing that the Métis
future lay with Canada, not with the United States, he assured the Lieutenant Governor that the Métis
would not join the Fenians and he kept his word. For want of local support, the Fenian attack died
before it had begun. Archibald was prepared to leave him in peace. However, this feeling was not
shared by all and Archibald came to believe that peace would be restored more quickly if Riel left the
country for a while. Riel and Lépine left Manitoba on February 23, 1872, and traveled to St. ... Show

Also, In 1937, The first Métis specific organization is formed in Canada, The Métis Nation of
Saskatchewan. This event helps the Métis to be unified.
Another reason why, in the early 1990s, by the will of Ontario Métis, the Métis Nation of Ontario
represents the collective aspirations, rights, and interests of Métis people and communities throughout
Ontario. And This event helps the Métis to be unified.
Lastly, Suggestions based on today s society I think that the Métis will not be the least unified in today
s society because others don t have the right to sell others land without permission so they will not be
spread.
Finally, Those are the reasons that I believe the Métis are the least unified as the result of
confederation because they lost more than

The Narrative Style Of Angela Merkel, Chancellor Of Germany
Narrative intelligent leaders are significant to organizations, as they lead by storytelling, they are
simultaneously influencing others through trust and communication. The purpose of this
communication analysis is to highlight and describe how the narrative leader style of Angela Merkel,
Chancellor of Germany, ultimately inspires her followers. First, it will provide insight by outlining her
narrative approach based on her speeches, presentations, and podcasts in addition to, the literature
available in narrative communication and leadership. Next, it will delineate the strengths of her
communication style thus enhancing her narrative method. Then, the focus will shift to bring attention
to potential areas of improvement to the narrative approach. Finally, this analysis will conclude with
recommendations which in turn will refine her delivery, aid in conveying her intended message, and
ultimately enrich her narrative intelligent leadership style.
Narrative Communication
Narrative Intelligence is the capacity to understand the world, being familiar with the multi
dimensions of narratives, to know different patterns of stories exist, to know which narrative patterns
are likely to have what effect in which situation, knowing how to overcome the fundamental
attribution error, and understand the audience s story. Narrative intelligence has been undeniably

some plans to improve the American life. As a leader, leading a change is a challenge in an
organization. Trump proved his business talent in the real estate industry. Trump wants to change the
tax. The changes of tax will impact all people live in the US (Tax plan, 2016). In his tax plan, he wants

Trump doesn t follow this process. When he was asked about the foreign policy issues, he didn t
answer directly. He escaped the questions again and again. The only thing he insists is making
America great. But he doesn t have any preparation to implement this goal. Also, he said he would
renegotiate the Trans Pacific Partnership, relations with China, the Iran nuclear deal, and the
partnerships with key allies. I doubt about his negotiation skills. He doesn t show any knowledge
about these international issues. I don t think he can negotiate with the others. The preparation is an
important stage when you try to achieve a good result. You have to know about the problem and
consider how to get win win between the parties. Trump needs to learn how to negotiation. For
example, the immigration might be a problem. But this is no way to build a wall to ban the Mexican.
The leader should separate the people from the problem. One rule can t fit all problems. Also, Trump
needs to let people trust him. The pursue fairness might help him. The change of tax rate has a
significant influence. If people view the process of fair, they would accept it. In addition, Trump
should have a BATNA if the agreement is not reached. The BATNA helps the leader make smart
choices. Also, the leader could have more bargaining power

The Weight Reduction Of The Drive Shaft
Abstract Almost all automobiles (at least those which correspond to design with rear wheel drive and
front engine installation) have transmission shafts. The weight reduction of the drive shaft can have a
certain role in the general weight reduction of the vehicle and is a highly desirable goal, if it can be
achieved without increase in cost and decrease in quality and reliability. It is possible to achieve
design of composite drive shaft with less weight to increase the first natural frequency of the shaft and
to decrease the bending stresses using various stacking sequences. By doing the same, maximize the
torque transmission and torsional buckling capabilities are also maximized.
Key Words: Propeller shaft, Drive shaft, optimization, Composite material, Composite drive shaft
design etc. INTRODUCTION
The advanced composite materials such as Graphite, Carbon, Kevlar and Glass with suitable resins are
widely used because of their high specific strength (strength / density) and high specific modulus
(modulus / density). Advanced composite materials seem ideally suited for long, power driver shaft
(propeller shaft) applications. Their elastic properties can be tailored to increase the torque they can
carry as well as the rotational speed at which they operate. The drive shafts are used in automotive,
aircraft and aerospace applications. The automotive industry is exploiting composite material
technology for structural components construction in order to obtain the reduction

With an influx of new cultural and religious ideas, natives rush to preserve their way of life. A drive

In order for psychologists to endeavour to define substance abuse, Substance itself must be defined an
in the context of psychology a substance is defined as anything an individual may ingest that alters
mood, cognition or behaviour. Therefore there is clearly a long list of substances including chocolate
(known for changes in level of neurochemical Serotonin) or Coffee (Stimulant). Hence the term
substance is more commonly referred to nicotine, alcohol, stimulants (i.e. cocaine and Ecstacy) and
depressants such as Heroin and Ecstacy.

Orford 2001 defines addiction (substance abuse) as an attachment to an appetitive activity, so strong
that a person finds it difficult to moderate an activity despite the fact it is causing harm. Davidson and
Neal in 1994 diagnosed substance abuse on the basis of two criteria. The first being Clear and
persistent pathological use of the substance involved and at least one of the following: Failure to fulfil
important obligation/putting oneself or others at physical risk/ having legal difficulties/serious social
or interpersonal problems.
The physiological approach explains substance abuse, using solely biological explanations focussing
on neurotransmitter chemicals, substances in the brain and on genetic differences between people with
and without addiction. Potenza 2001 stated that Neurotransmitters are chemicals, which moves in the
gaps between nerve cells to transmit messages. If the chemical is blocked or replaced, for example,
then the message changes and this affects the physiological systems, also effecting, cognition, mood
and behaviour. Dopamine is regarded as the most commonly associated neurotransmitter having these
effects, although other chemicals have been shown to induce similar effects. Therefore resulting in a

addiction, is physical dependency. Therefore

Mexican-American Culture
Culture, by my opinion, consists of the beliefs, morals, and traditions one is raised with. It s not
created out of nowhere; it is passed on from generation to generation. There are many cultures, mine
being Mexican American. My customs and beliefs come from a mix of both, not either one or the
other. My parents immigrated from Mexico in 1981 to give my siblings and I better lives. They didn t
want us to go through the hardships they did when they were our age. However, that didn t keep us
from learning about Mexican roots. My parents taught us Spanish from the very beginning, not only to

there may be a number of people who are criminals that are of my nationality, but all nationalities

Hip Hop Dance Styles
Hip Hop has been evolving since its debut in the early 1970 s and today includes far too many styles
to list. However, as many of the other Hip Hop dance studios near me will agree, these are the nine
most iconic styles of Hip Hop taught here at Virtuous Dance Center in Fredericksburg.
1) B boying (Breakdancing)
Thought to be one of the very first styles of Hip Hop, B boying is characterized by acrobatic Power
Moves, upright moves, and footwork. Dancers also punctuate their routines with a move known as the
Freeze.
2) Locking and Popping
While technically two styles, Locking and Popping often go hand in hand. Locking involves fast
movements, sharp pauses, and exaggerated gestures. Popping, on the other hand, is a bouncy style that
requires major use of counter tempo.
3) Funk

5) Liquid Dance
As its name implies, Liquid Dance is a fluid and graceful dance with a focus on the arms and hands. It
may include some forms of pantomime and advanced dancers will use a range of body movements.
6) Boogaloo
Another fluid like style, Boogaloo as taught by Hip Hop dance studios near me, involves the entire
body moving smoothly, often with rolling of the hips, head, and knees.
7) Regga
If we had to pick a Hip Hop style that invokes sensuality it would be Regga for its Latin influences
mixed with more traditional Hip Hop movements set to the modern evolution of Reggae music.
8) Lyrical
Lyrical is a unique style of Hip Hop in that it tells a story and is danced to the words of the music
instead of the beat. It is often fluid in nature and more interpretive than other forms of Hip Hop.
9) Stepping
Stepping is a group dance that involves using body movements to create percussive beats. This is
accomplished through:
Stomping or Steps
Clapping or Slapping

The Trickster of Hamelin
The Trickster of Hamelin The story of the Pied Piper of Hamelin comes in the form of a poem by
Robert Browning. A poem which has been retold countless times, and has been used for inspiration in
many other literary works. The primary theme of the story is to The folly of man . The secondary
themes to support this are Greed, the loss of a generation of children, and the suggestion of heaven to
which the children go. This retelling of this story, in the form of a film focuses on the story from the
viewpoint of the pied piper instead of the villagers. The summary of the original poem is as followed.
The town of Hamelin in Brunswick is introduced and it is told that there was a serious vermin problem
500 years ago. Rats overran the city to the point where the villagers demanded the mayor and the
councilmen that the rats be gotten rid of. The mayor cannot find a way to get rid of the rats until a
stranger whom says he can t in odd clothing arrives at the village. The stranger says that he can fix the
rodent problem by using a secret charm and asks for money in return, to which the mayor agrees to
pay. The piper proceeds lead the rats out of the town by using his magical instrument and returns to
the mayor for his reward, to which the mayor refuses to pay the full amount saying that he did not kill
the rodents. The piper continues down the street and starts to play his flute again, but this time charms
the local children. He leads the children down to a magical portal in

Applying Park s and Burgess Concentric Zone Model to Crime in Toronto
Social disorganization theory is an example of a social structure theory. Social structure theories
include an emphasis on social stratification, unequal distribution of wealth, and how these
circumstances affect social values and norms (Slideshow Oct 28th). Specifically, social
disorganization theory states that a breakdown of the networks, norms, and trust that facilitate
coordination and cooperation among residents can lead to greater crime and violence (Boyd, 2015).

Interactionist theorists believe that laws are constantly changing. It is a result of interaction among
individuals and groups. Moral entrepreneurs try to get their values enacted in law. Being labelled
deviant may promote further deviance. Focus is on the process of deviance and changing definitions

is because of labelling theory. If the process of deviance is stopped or halted, and the definition of
deviance is changed, we may see a decrease in crime rates in transitional

Poverty is the Main Cause of Social Class Differences in Educational Achievement
This essay will assess the view that poverty is the main cause of social class differences in educational
achievement. There are many causes of these differences which can be linked to cultural deprivation,
and will be discussed in this essay.
Material deprivation is lack of money and things which money can buy, and is the main cause of
poverty. Item B suggests that that this is the main cause of social class differences in educational
achievement as it says that most truants come from poor working class backgrounds and are less likely
than their middle class counter parts to obtain a good formal education. ... Show more content on

Douglas 1964, claimed that middle class children received more attention and encouragement from
their parents which was the single most important factor affecting their attainment whereas working
class pupils received little encouragement and lacked the motivation to succeed at school.
Also sugarman believed that the working class subculture was fatalistic, concerned with immediate
gratification and present time orientated. This meant that they wanted to earn money straight away
rather than sacrifice for the future. Middle classes were however prepeared to sacrifice for the future
they were future time orientated and concerned with deferred gratification. However a criticism of
immediate gratification in this case is that the students aren t usually sacrificing as the first year of uni

In addition to this Basil Bernsteins research shows that schools can contribute to social class
differences in educational achievement and his research did not support the view that poverty is the
main cause. He claimed that there were two forms of speech patterns restricted code and elaborated
code. The restricted code was a kind of shorthand speech which was used by working class children
and the elaborated code spelled out meanings and details. Middle class children are socialised in both

Abstract
The purpose of this experiment was to find out if an adults could pass a middle school science test.
My hypothesis was that the 20 39 year old age group would have the highest average test score. To
determine this I had adults, in the age ranges of 20 39, 40 59, and 60+, take a 12 question middle
school science test. The results proved my hypothesis right because the 20 39 year olds age group had
the highest average test score. The 60+ age group had the second highest average test score and the 40
59 year old age group had the lowest average test score. The independent variables are the ages of the
adults, which are (20 39), (40 59), (60+). The dependent variable is the grade the participant gets on
the test based on the answer sheet for the test. The controlled variable is the 12 question middle school
science test based on middle school curriculum. If I were to do something to make the data more
accurate I would to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Taking a Look at Hurricanes
Hurricanes are first formed when warm ocean water makes energy for the hurricane and causes
evaporation making air and clouds. The ocean water temperature has to achieve at least 80 degrees
fahrenheit for it to provide energy for the hurricane. The winds will then end up colliding and force
the winds upwards. After the winds have flown upward, they will flow outward above the storm which
will make the air rise. Lastly, the light winds outside the storm will let it grow into a national storm.
There are many tropical stages a storm has to go through before reaching the final hurricane stage. The
first stage is called a tropical wave. A tropical wave storm is basically a low pressured storm following
the trade winds. The second stage is called a Tropical Disturbance. A tropical disturbance is an area of
thunderstorms that will usually form in the tropics area. These storms only last for about a day at the
most and usually produce heavy rain and gusty winds. The third stage is called a Tropical Cyclone. A
tropical cyclone is similar to a tropical wave. It produces a low pressure storm but they develop
usually over tropical and sub tropical waters. The fourth stage is called a Tropical Depression. A
tropical depression is a medium pressure storm with winds approximately 38 mph or less. These
storms are one of the first stages when meteorologists are studying a certain storm forming. The fifth
stage is called a Tropical Storm. These storms are very common because they are the

Although now one nation as United States of America, in the past, the nation was divided into
sections: the North and the South. The nation had to go through tragic Civil War to be united and
become successful and grow as one unity. Behind the Civil War there was a gradual increase of
sectional tensions between the North and the South mainly due tothe western expansion.Utilization of
slavery became the main conflict between the North and the South. This essay will focus briefly on
the background of western expansion and how it had contributed to the growing sectionalism. In 1803,
President Thomas Jefferson purchased the territory of Louisiana from the French government also
known as the Louisiana Purchase. The Louisiana Purchase stretched from the Mississippi River to the
Rocky Mountains and from Canada to New Orleans, and it doubled the size of the United States.
Jefferson thought westward expansion was the key to the nation s health. In order to provide enough
land to the yeoman (farmers), the United States had to continue to expand. Jefferson believed that
western expansion would fill up the empty lands with immigrants and provide enough lands for the
farmers, so he decided to support the western expansion. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Due to the cheap rate that Wal Mart is able to buy its products from suppliers, it is able to provide
customers with even bigger bargains to encourage them to shop at its stores. In addition to its low
prices, Wal Mart should continue with its current strategy of large, super centers, which is basically a
one stop shopping experience for everything you may need or want. The one stop shop experience is
appealing to customers in that it makes shopping easier. To provide the ease of shopping Wal Mart is
guaranteeing that the customers will find what they want when they want it. This is supported by
convenient presentation and the right level of service every time the customer shops. In doing so, Wal
Mart can appeal to an even larger market. According to pages 151 and 152 in the textbook, this
opportunity would become apparent if Wal Mart used a low cost strategy where the business produces
basic, no frills products for a large market of price sensitive shoppers. New locations and store types
offer Wal Mart opportunities to exploit market development. They diversified from large super
centers, to local and mall based sites, such as their Wal Mart Neighborhood Markets and their
Marketside stores. Using a focus low cost strategy, page 153 in the textbook, that enables Wal Mart to

Physics of Angular Momentum Project
Angular Momentum: The Physics of Spinning
Although many know the physics of spinning , not many people are aware of how angular momentum
explains the physics of rotation. Now it is true that all objects have a momentum, a product of mass
and velocity. But similarly, the inertia of rotating objects is called angular momentum. When a
direction is given to a rotational speed, we call this rotational velocity, and its vector is rotational
speed. Therefore, angular momentum is the product of rotational inertia and rotational velocity, or
L=Iw. This equation can be used in physics to find the angular momentum of an extended object, with
the I being the inertia (kg x m2) the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
An example of this would be a man with his arms extended, holding weights. If his arms are extended
with weights on the end, his overall rotational inertia is relatively large and as he turns, his angular
momentum is the product of his rotational inertia and rotational velocity. If he pulls the weights in, his
rotational inertia is decreased, but his rotational speed increases. This concedes the idea of the law,
that the smaller one part is, the larger the other part must be. There are examples in sports too, like
cheerleading. When a flyer in cheerleading is thrown and is going into her rotation, she isn t at her
fastest motion yet, but her ability to resist a change in motion is quite high. This ability to resist a
change in motion is her inertia, which in our case, is mass multiplied by radius squared. So while she
has arms and legs extended before she fully rotates, she has less speed, but a longer radius that allows
her inertia to remain larger. When she is fully into the rotation with legs and arms fully tucked in, she
has a smaller radius, but because of the conservation of momentum, this loss of inertia must be made
up in speed. So while the flyer is doing the hardest part of her trick, the real rotation, her body is
moving the fastest so that her lack of inertia can not affect the success of her move.
Now my final example is the figure skater, how do we explain mathematically why when her arms are
extended she goes slower and when her arms are pulled in she

The Legend of La Llorona Essay
A Guatemalan native, a male graduate student that I work with in my research group at the University
told this story. He came from the countryside, living in a small village back home. According to him,
the story of La Llorona, involving a weeping woman, arose sometime in the 1700s and became well
known both at school and home. Some claimed to have actually seen the weeping woman. Some
disregard it as unscientific and implausible. No one is sure of the exact origin of this urban legend.
This story was told to me and another graduate student in our research group while sitting in lab
waiting for the experiment results. The story began as we started sharing our own background and the
culture of our own countries when the storyteller ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Disney Gender Roles
For many years, Disney has made fairy tale films that are full of lovable characters that children
cannot seem to get enough of. The traits of many of the characters remain great models for children to
watch and learn from. Adults tend to see a bit more than just the good qualities they embody, which
leads to the realization that these films are far from perfect. Upon closer inspection, Disney films
embrace patriarchal and sexist ideologies when it comes to their characters something that Disney has
been nearly successful in eradicating in their most recent films. From the earliest films to the most
recent, the portrayal of gender roles, of both the hero/heroine and the villain, has changed for the
better. The earliest princesses, Snow White, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In response to criticism and to avoid being called sexist, Disney started using more male villains.
According to Amy Davis, there exist several different types of male villain: pirate kings, enemies of
the earth, magically dangerous, criminally dangerous, comic, and idiotic. Ratcliffe, from Pocahontas,
is an enemy of the earth villain and concerned only with what wealth he can gain from the land. The
Shadow Man, from The Princess and the Frog, is a magically dangerous villain and a practitioner of
voodoo. He exerts his magical power to manipulate other people to do what he wishes, and his
primary goal consists of becoming ridiculously wealthy. Shan yu, from Mulan, is a criminally
dangerous and arrogant villain with a grandiose sense of self who is intent on conquering the whole of
China. Hans, from Frozen, is probably a criminally dangerous villain, although he lacks mention in
Davis s book. Being the youngest in his family, he feels as though he does not get anything he believes
he deserves, so he manipulates Anna to gain access to her kingdom and wealth. Gaston, from Beauty
and the Beast, is a comic villain composed of more brawn than brain. He only cares about acquiring
wealth, a category that also includes Belle. These male villains all have similar characteristics greed,
arrogance, overconfidence, and violent tendencies (Amy Davis Ch.

  • 2. Similarities Between Jazz And Hip-Hop Music This paper will highlight the similarities between jazz and hip hop music. African American cultural forms and developments are as vast as they are diverse. However, because of white America s consistently racist and oppressive treatment of people of color in this country there are certain commonalities between African American cultures as a result of this continuous subordination. I am going to display some of these existing similarities within hip hop and jazz cultures. Albeit they are both musically and culturally different, each emerging out of a specific historical moment with its own distinct musical and cultural practices, there exists enough similarities between that two that it seems a comparison is indeed beneficial in understanding and examining American society in general. The similarities between the two African American cultures is also quite great. I will ask and answer questions such as: what were the effects the urban ghettos from which both of these cultures arose out of had upon their initial development, and what are some ways in which the music of both of these cultures is a form of alternative and self empowering language? Throughout the history of this country, the music of Afro Americans has remained a strong influence upon our society and culture. Beginning with the music carried over from Africa with the slaves, up until now, with the new styles created by urban youth today, African Americans have retained certain elements within their music which ... • 3. How Did The U.s. Expand Westward And What Was Its Impact... PURPOSE 1 Question: How did the U.S. expand westward and what was its impact on Native Americans? Answer: The United States began expanding westward during the 1800s. During the early 1800s, America turned its attention towards the exploration and settlement of its Western territory. The amount of land had been greatly increased by the Louisiana Purchase of 1803, which almost doubled the size of the nation. Later on, the size of the United States increased yet again with the Mexican Cession and the Gadsden Purchase. From these, the United States gained California, Nevada, Utah, Texas, and parts of Arizona, New Mexico, Colorado, and Wyoming. Settlers swept westward, encouraged by the federal government. The government created the Homestead Act, which offered 160 acres of cheap land in the West under the condition that the settlers had to work the land for 5 years. As the Western territories became more and more developed, Native Americans and their culture were slowly destroyed through laws such as the Indian Removal Act and the Dawes Act. Native Americans were forced onto small reservations and their children were then forcibly assimilated into white American culture in order to make room for the white settlers. PURPOSE 2 Question: Why did nations desire to expand and gain power through imperialism? Answer: There were many philosophies about the way that America should interact with other countries. Some people felt that America should remain isolationist, avoiding ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Birth defects in babies are serious functional or structural abnormalities that are present at birth in 3%( approximately 120,000 (Simeone 1104) ) of infants in the United States each year. There are quite a few different types of defects that you may not even be able to see on the infant at first. It could be something developmental that will only get worse as they get older. If you believe that birth defects are only caused by women doing illegal drugs and drinking while pregnant, you re wrong. It could be a complete genetic disorder that the baby has inherited or a chromosome problem where the baby is missing even just a part or a whole chromosome and in some cases gains an extra. Sometimes before the baby, is born you are able to do ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It could be very mild and be solved with therapy, or there are some extreme cases that need surgery as soon as the child is born. Spina Bifida is another common structural defect that is very serious and it messes with spine. There is a three different types of spina bifida; the first type is Myelomeningocele which is where the baby s spine doesn t completely close. With this condition, a sac of fluid comes through an opening in the baby s back. Part of the spinal cord and nerves are in this sac and are damaged. This type of spina bifida causes moderate to severe disabilities. (CDC) The next type is meningocele this has some similarities to the first type with the sac but with this the spine isn t in the sac, this type will only have some minor disabilities. The final type is Spina Bifida Occulta which is the more mild out of the three. This is where there is only a small gap in the baby s back with no sac. This is harder to find in infants usually is isn t even discovered until people are young adults, not many disabilities are caused by this type. There is not only common structural defects, but also developmental or functional defects. A well known type that affects the nervous system is Down Syndrome. This is when people either have an extra piece on a chromosome or they have a whole extra chromosome number 21. It is the most common chromosomal cause of mild to moderate intellectual disabilities. Smith took his men and sailed back to England, where he described, in third person, what is was like before they left. The day before Captain Smith returned for England with the ships, Captain Davis arrived in a small Pinace with some sixteene proper men more (Smith, 27). Captain Smith had previously thought that they would rely on the Patawomeke tribe to trade with them so they wouldn t have to plant any food, however, Smith was wrong and found out the hard way that the Patawomeke would just ignore them instead. • 6. History Of King Richard IIi Of England History is not all that it is cracked up to be. If a person believes himself/herself to be logical, it is easy to assume that researchers of history and authors of historical works are ethical and do their best. This is not a conclusion that is borne out by the facts. The case of the written history of King Richard III of England is an outstanding example of the lack of adequate research and actual perfidy on the part of historians. Richard III reigned for a brief period in the late 15th century, 26 June 1483 to 22 August 1485. He was the last Yorkist king and the last of the Plantagenet kings. He traced his ancestry to William the Conquerer. He was also the last English king to die in battle. He was succeeded on the throne by Henry the VII, the first of the Tudor line who ruled England for the next 118 years. With the death of Richard there were, for all intents and purposes, no Yorkist contenders for the throne. (There were a couple of incidents with pretenders, but these were quickly and violently put down.) As a result, Henry was able to concentrate on his duties as king. As monarchs and heads of state do right up to the present, Henry made sure he was presented in the best light possible, and that Richard was portrayed as a really bad guy. It seems as if this got a little out of hand, and there is no question that Henry and his successors did nothing to rein in the writers of the time. Chief among these authors was none other than William Shakespeare, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. A Model For Computer Systems Research The author of this paper focusses on developping a model for computer systems research. He presents data to show that the merit of the paper is dependent on variability between reviewers and is zipf distributed. The author proves, with the help of game theory, that with noisy reviews and zipf merrit, the authors have an incentive to sumit the papers too early and too often which makes the conference reviewing and systems research as a whole less efficient. The popularity of peer to peer systems are reflects its potential to provide scalable performance and high degree of robustness for a variety of applications. This paper focusses on another peer to peer system, the systems research community since there are many similarities between system research community and peer peer system. They lack central control. Progress occurs through the individual researchers interacting through the conference publication system. In this paper the author uses peer peer systems to develop a model of computer systems research conferences. The author believes that, the current practice of computer systems research is harmfull in two ways. Conference program committees spend enormous amount of time on what ends up for many papers being close to a random throw of dice. Worse conference reviewing encourages misdirected effort, by research community that slows down research process. By illuminating the above two issues the author hope to reduce their impact. He also provides some suggestion to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

More and more people are becoming ill due to work and have to take a number of sick days to recupriate for more work hours. What causes this is based on a number of factors which researchers are aiming at looking into, hence the increase of interest in the field of occupational psychology. Occupational psychology, as the British Psychology Society puts it, is the attempt or aim of giving workers the satisfaction of working in an effective and safe like environment. Occupational psychologists goal is to improve and maintain the working environment for employees which would limit the cause of stress in the workplace and eliminating illness. The article, Occupational ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Therefore, the more hours work equal to the more impact occupational stress would have on the person. Take for example someone who work 40 hours a week, which is the typical timeframe. This person is influence by work for almost 24% of their week. 24% is a lot of time, that is one quarter of a person time in work for the week. A lot of influence is being place in the person life and so there is a lot of room, a lot of time and a lot of influence that the workplace can have on a person health. Occupational stress should not be taken lightly or seem as minimum stress because it have 24% of a person time. This is why employees are encourage to take vacation every year and utilize their sick days to recupirate and allow their body to relax and be away form the stress work environment. Whitbourne (2010) emphasis that vacation is needed and vital to break the stress cycle persons may experience in work. • 9. Theory Of Games And Economic Behaviour Although rationality provides the foundation for behavioural decision theory, current findings suggest that heuristics and biases have a significant impact on individual decision making. Rationality can only go so far in explaining individual decision making. A large part of early research into decision theory was based on the economic or normative approach, which tries to predict the actions of a so called rational decision maker . Although Bernoulli (1738) was the first to introduce the concept of utility into decision making, it was Von Neumann and Morgenstern s book, Theory of Games and Economic Behaviour which revolutionised the idea of a rational decision process. Von Neumann and Morgenstern (1947) explicitly outlined the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In contrast, EU theory suggests people have different attitudes toward risk some would be risk averse and prefer the guaranteed payment, even though the expected value is lower, while others would choose the riskier bet. However, EU Theory and the normative approach to decision making are not without criticisms. As with every mathematical model, EU theory is a simplified representation of reality and does not guarantee reliable predictions of human behaviour. Indeed, empirical evidence suggests the existence of systematic deviations from rationality. As Dawes (1988) wrote, People, groups, organizations, and governments make choices. Sometimes the consequences of their decisions are desirable, sometimes not (p. 2). Hence it can be argued that decision making is not purely rational (where rationality is defined as the decision predicted by EU Theory). In in attempt to create a more psychologically accurate description of decision making, Kahneman and Tversky (1979) developed Prospect Theory, which theorized that individuals have different perceptions when considering losses versus gains. In contrast to EU Theory, which suggests we make decisions that maximise our utility, research by Kahneman and Tversky (1979) found that information is not processed in such a rational way. For example, according to EU Theory, the amount of utility gained by receiving $200 should be equal to receiving $300 and losing $100 as in both situations ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

First, the Central Nervous System that consists of the brain and the spinal cord, and the Peripheral Nervous System that is made up of the nerves comings out of that Central Nervous System. The Central Nervous System s main task is to integrate sensory information that the Peripheral Nervous System collects from all over the body and responds to it by coordinating both conscious and unconscious activity. • 11. Personal Narrative There s nothing like summer to make you realize the tediousness of life. You go every day of school waiting for it to be over, just for summer to start up and start the whole cycle all over again. By the time May came around, I wanted to get away from everything. I only hung out with my friends two times the whole summer. Hell, even that surprised me. I had to keep myself occupied. If I stopped for one second then I d start to think and if I started to think I d spiral down further and further. No, I needed to be busy. I got a job for just such a reason. I got a job helping out at my mom s church. I was on janitorial duty: mopping, cleaning, and organizing. The thing was, they already had someone to do all that stuff, a young guy ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... If nothing else, it came as a welcomed escape from work, which had devoured the majority of my summer like an angry grizzly. We spent the next few days in relative bliss, only getting upset once over, you guessed it, the rules of water balloons. We embarked on a variety of adventures through the forest, including going to shoot cans with my brother s bee bee gun and terrifying each other with a ghost story about our friend Clint. • 12. Inner Cities And Its Impact On Society Essay America has had an extensive relationship with her inner cities. Inner cities were and are the backbone to America and her achievements. The cities assisted in the mass production of the automobile industry, the destruction of the tyranny known as the Nazi Empire, and are the center piece for businesses today. The inner cities had a reduction in employment during the 2008 financial crisis, leaving the cities and their inhabitants in shambles. This not only affected jobs and parents, but the children as well. This was unfortunate because the cities that built America were now spilt into two parts. One part became an area of bustling traffic and lively people, the other underprivileged individuals with no source of income due to financial collapse of their places of employment. Inner city children face an abundant number of obstacles in their lives being raised in these low income areas. These areas have become poverty stricken and are being ignored by the government. Without assistance, whether from the state or the federal level of government, certain factors of their lives are being neglected. Some of the factors that are detrimental to the children are the inadequate educational programs, lack of attendance at school, and parent involvement, lack of availability of nutritional produce and a higher rate of exposure to crime. The children in inner cities are demonstrating issues with attendance this is detrimental to success because missing days directly impacts ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Weight Reduction Of The Drive Shaft Abstract Almost all automobiles (at least those which correspond to design with rear wheel drive and front engine installation) have transmission shafts. The weight reduction of the drive shaft can have a certain role in the general weight reduction of the vehicle and is a highly desirable goal, if it can be achieved without increase in cost and decrease in quality and reliability. It is possible to achieve design of composite drive shaft with less weight to increase the first natural frequency of the shaft and to decrease the bending stresses using various stacking sequences. By doing the same, maximize the torque transmission and torsional buckling capabilities are also maximized. Key Words: Propeller shaft, Drive shaft, optimization, Composite material, Composite drive shaft design etc. INTRODUCTION The advanced composite materials such as Graphite, Carbon, Kevlar and Glass with suitable resins are widely used because of their high specific strength (strength / density) and high specific modulus (modulus / density). Advanced composite materials seem ideally suited for long, power driver shaft (propeller shaft) applications. Their elastic properties can be tailored to increase the torque they can carry as well as the rotational speed at which they operate. The drive shafts are used in automotive, aircraft and aerospace applications. The ocean water temperature has to achieve at least 80 degrees fahrenheit for it to provide energy for the hurricane. The winds will then end up colliding and force the winds upwards. After the winds have flown upward, they will flow outward above the storm which will make the air rise. Lastly, the light winds outside the storm will let it grow into a national storm. • 35. Swot Analysis of Wal-Mart In 1962, Sam Walton founded Wal Mart by opening the first Wal Mart in Rogers, Arkansas. Wal Mart Stores Inc. was incorporated October 31, 1969. By the end of the 1960s, Wal Mart had grown to 276 stores in 11 states, and Wal Mart went public in 1972. In 1991, Wal Mart opened its first international store in Mexico City and has never looked back. As of this year, Wal Mart has 8,446 store and club locations in 15 countries that serve more than 176 million customers every year (walmartstores.com) Every company, even one as large as Wal Mart, has strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats. Some of Wal Mart s strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats, identified using information from their website, walmartstores.com, are the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Due to the cheap rate that Wal Mart is able to buy its products from suppliers, it is able to provide customers with even bigger bargains to encourage them to shop at its stores. In addition to its low prices, Wal Mart should continue with its current strategy of large, super centers, which is basically a one stop shopping experience for everything you may need or want. The one stop shop experience is appealing to customers in that it makes shopping easier. To provide the ease of shopping Wal Mart is guaranteeing that the customers will find what they want when they want it. This is supported by convenient presentation and the right level of service every time the customer shops. In doing so, Wal Mart can appeal to an even larger market. According to pages 151 and 152 in the textbook, this opportunity would become apparent if Wal Mart used a low cost strategy where the business produces basic, no frills products for a large market of price sensitive shoppers. New locations and store types offer Wal Mart opportunities to exploit market development. They diversified from large super centers, to local and mall based sites, such as their Wal Mart Neighborhood Markets and their Marketside stores. Using a focus low cost strategy, page 153 in the textbook, that enables Wal Mart to realize the opportunity of appealing to those customers who want the feel of shopping in a ... • 36. Physics Of Angular Momentum Project Kathleen Murphy 6/16/17 Walker Physics of Angular Momentum Project Angular Momentum: The Physics of Spinning Although many know the physics of spinning , not many people are aware of how angular momentum explains the physics of rotation. Now it is true that all objects have a momentum, a product of mass and velocity. But similarly, the inertia of rotating objects is called angular momentum. When a direction is given to a rotational speed, we call this rotational velocity, and its vector is rotational speed. Therefore, angular momentum is the product of rotational inertia and rotational velocity, or L=Iw. This equation can be used in physics to find the angular momentum of an extended object, with the I being the inertia (kg x m2) the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... An example of this would be a man with his arms extended, holding weights. If his arms are extended with weights on the end, his overall rotational inertia is relatively large and as he turns, his angular momentum is the product of his rotational inertia and rotational velocity. If he pulls the weights in, his rotational inertia is decreased, but his rotational speed increases. This concedes the idea of the law, that the smaller one part is, the larger the other part must be. There are examples in sports too, like cheerleading. When a flyer in cheerleading is thrown and is going into her rotation, she isn t at her fastest motion yet, but her ability to resist a change in motion is quite high. This ability to resist a change in motion is her inertia, which in our case, is mass multiplied by radius squared. So while she has arms and legs extended before she fully rotates, she has less speed, but a longer radius that allows her inertia to remain larger. When she is fully into the rotation with legs and arms fully tucked in, she has a smaller radius, but because of the conservation of momentum, this loss of inertia must be made up in speed. So while the flyer is doing the hardest part of her trick, the real rotation, her body is moving the fastest so that her lack of inertia can not affect the success of her move. Now my final example is the figure skater, how do we explain mathematically why when her arms are extended she goes slower and when her arms are pulled in she ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 37. The Legend of La Llorona Essay A Guatemalan native, a male graduate student that I work with in my research group at the University told this story. He came from the countryside, living in a small village back home. According to him, the story of La Llorona, involving a weeping woman, arose sometime in the 1700s and became well known both at school and home. Some claimed to have actually seen the weeping woman. Some disregard it as unscientific and implausible. No one is sure of the exact origin of this urban legend. This story was told to me and another graduate student in our research group while sitting in lab waiting for the experiment results. The story began as we started sharing our own background and the culture of our own countries when the storyteller ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Enraged at the young man who once promised her that he would be with her forever, she drove him away. When the time came for the wedding, María stood at the back of the church hoping a miracle would happen. However, the ceremony went on and the young man was married with the girl his parents chose for him. When the ceremony was over, María went home in a crazed state and killed her children, throwing them into a nearby river and then drowning herself. When her soul reached heaven, God denied her entry. God asked her, Where are your children? Ashamed, she confessed that she threw them into the river and did not know their whereabouts. Go and bring them here, the Lord said. You shall not enter the heaven gate and rest until you have found them. Ever since María, now La Llorona, wanders along streams, creeks, and rivers at night, weeping and crying for her children, Ay, mis hijos! (my kids) and ¿Donde están mis hijos? (where are my kids?). According to those who have seen her, her face is sometimes that of a horse, but often time more horribly blank, and her long fingernails shine like polished tin in the moonlight. It is said that she walks up and down the river late at night taking revenge on guys who are promiscuous and unfaithful to girls. Guys will often look at her and follow her unconsciously down the river. If guys follow her for some period of time, at some point she will grab ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 38. Disney Gender Roles For many years, Disney has made fairy tale films that are full of lovable characters that children cannot seem to get enough of. The traits of many of the characters remain great models for children to watch and learn from. Adults tend to see a bit more than just the good qualities they embody, which leads to the realization that these films are far from perfect. Upon closer inspection, Disney films embrace patriarchal and sexist ideologies when it comes to their characters something that Disney has been nearly successful in eradicating in their most recent films. From the earliest films to the most recent, the portrayal of gender roles, of both the hero/heroine and the villain, has changed for the better. The earliest princesses, Snow White, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In response to criticism and to avoid being called sexist, Disney started using more male villains. According to Amy Davis, there exist several different types of male villain: pirate kings, enemies of the earth, magically dangerous, criminally dangerous, comic, and idiotic. Ratcliffe, from Pocahontas, is an enemy of the earth villain and concerned only with what wealth he can gain from the land. The Shadow Man, from The Princess and the Frog, is a magically dangerous villain and a practitioner of voodoo. He exerts his magical power to manipulate other people to do what he wishes, and his primary goal consists of becoming ridiculously wealthy. Shan yu, from Mulan, is a criminally dangerous and arrogant villain with a grandiose sense of self who is intent on conquering the whole of China. Hans, from Frozen, is probably a criminally dangerous villain, although he lacks mention in Davis s book. Being the youngest in his family, he feels as though he does not get anything he believes he deserves, so he manipulates Anna to gain access to her kingdom and wealth. Gaston, from Beauty and the Beast, is a comic villain composed of more brawn than brain. He only cares about acquiring wealth, a category that also includes Belle. These male villains all have similar characteristics greed, arrogance, overconfidence, and violent tendencies (Amy Davis Ch. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
