My general areas of interest are numerical modeling and tropical meteorology. For example,
numerical simulation models of tropical cyclones is the problem that interest me most in atmospheric

on the existing models, and make unique contributions. My ultimate goal is to develop skills to
become a sophisticated researcher and teacher in the field, while pursuing a doctorate degree in

My interest on PDEs dates back to high school. Since typhoons frequently struck my hometown, I
developed interest in the forecast of tropical cyclones. Guided by a net pal with a master s degree in
meteorology, I started to systematically study the basics of weather prediction. However, when
reading Principles of Meteorological Analysis, I encountered PDEs describing dynamics of
atmosphere, which was incomprehensible for me then. Realizing that a solid math foundation would

Liberals believe the causes of war are miscommunication, mistrust, and misperceptions. As a solution,
Immanuel Kant, a German philosopher, believed that to overcome international anarchy and achieve
perpetual peace, there needed to be collective action (interdependency between states), and a
federation of states in which state sovereignty will be left intact (international organizations).
However, for this to occur, states must have a democratic government. This later became known as the

Drug addiction is a crippling problem in the United States, and has the possibility of affecting every
single person. May it be from someone in the upper class, to a single mother who is living in poverty,
this form of substance abuse is becoming more and more abundant in recent times. Unfortunately,

The model minority is a member of a minority group either based on ethnicity, race, or religion whose
members are commonly perceived to achieve a higher level of success than the average population.
The success that an individual reaches is typically measured by income, education, low crime rates
and high family stability achieved throughout their lives. The stereotype of the model minority is
commonly associated with Asian Americans as they are assumed to achieve highly in academics
which will thus propel them up the economic ladder. The stereotype of a smart high achieving Asian
American student is fueled by other stereotypes such as Asians being good at math and that they all go
to college. The intelligence stereotypes created by society are the reason why some individuals feel
pressured to succeed and feel as if failure is not as option. If its not the student who feels the pressure,

Mother s vs. Father s and birthing process. For a working woman, maternity leave is a standard part of
giving birth. Physically, the new mother needs that time to recover from the birthing process, but there
is an emotional reason, too. Experts preach over and over that for those first few weeks of a baby s
life, it needs the interaction and touch of its mother to help with bonding to start their development on
the right track. Shouldn t the father be part of that process as well? Shouldn t the father of the new
child be able to take paternity leave from work? I believe they should, not only to bond with the child,
but to help the mother with her recovery and to coordinate visitors, appointments and any errands that
may be needed. Some people have a stigma that the mother is the one responsible for raising the child
from birth. I respectfully disagree. I believe the father should be as much a part of a baby s first weeks

The event that I attended was an IEP meeting for one of the students that I work with. However, the
parent of the student requested that the person that assist her son in the classroom to be included in the
meeting. Day s previews to the meeting, the staff that were involved in the meeting gather together
and created an agenda, they listed the main points that they want to discuss with the mother of the

First, the SAR image that is freely available that gives the temporal coverage of the landslide in
question is Sentinel 1A. This satellite instrument captures SAR image using C band which uses 5 7 cm
wavelength and 5.35 GHz frequency (Alsdorf et al., 2007; Potin, 2013). This c band cannot pierce the
vegetation canopy to reach ground (Moran et al., 1998). This lead to some decorrelation in the image
as the study area is a highly vegetated area. One Previous study used corner reflector for better result
while measuring slow onset landslide movement (Sun Muller, 2016). Nonetheless, in this study, no
corner reflectors were used, as the landslide was rapid onset and there were no previously CRs
installed in that area.
