Analysis Of In The Time Of The Butterflies
Reading through the intrepid journeys of this novel, we come to learn about each of the four Mirabal
sisters, along with their attitude and actions towards their merciless leader. In Julia Alvarez s In The
Time of the Butterflies, readers are introduced to four sisters living under the dictatorship of Rafael
Trujillo, the head of the Dominican Republic. All sisters harbor an intense hatred for the state, but
among them, two sisters in particular bear stronger differences than the others Minerva and Dede.
Minerva is an adamant character whom delves deeper into the secrets of Trujillo and the coming
revolution, whereas Dede s character shies away and lingers in the back. While Minerva and Dede
both long to see the corrupt regime overthrown, it is only Minerva who jumps into action to oppose
the state. Minerva, the most resilient sister, uses her audacity, combined with a desire for equality, to
express her opinions and challenge the state, while Dede s reserved and wary self leads her to remain
hesitant in public. When time comes for Minerva to attend one of the many grand parties of Trujillo,
the lustful leader decides that she must belong to him, and makes an effort to entice her through
conversations of keeping her beloved university open. Expectedly, Minerva is not in the least swayed
by Trujillo s persuasion, and when he physically forces himself on her in pursuit of her consent to stay,
she raises her hand in defense, and as if it had a mind on its own [came] down

Louis Armstrong Contributions
Louis Armstrong s diversity and adaptability is widely recognized as one of the most influential aspect
in jazz music. Louis Armstrong s musical influence is still the fundamental base for modern jazz
today. Louis Armstrong is jazz. He represents what the music is all about. Wynton Marsalis perfectly
sums up his contributions. His diversity sets him apart from other jazz artists because he managed to
stay relevant throughout different musical eras like, the ENOJ era, The Swing Era, Blues etc., until the
end of his career. The accomplishments he has achieved throughout his life and the hardships he has
gone through has shaped his persona, contributing to how he will become as an artist. His instrumental
style, singing, career throughout musical eras, accomplishments, and etc., contribute to how adaptable
and diverse he is.
Background/Influences on Early Life
Louis Armstrong, a well known influential jazz artist. He was known differently to each person, but
universally, he was recognized for his talent with music. Behind all of his accomplishments, he is a
regular person just like any other. Born on August 4, 1901, in New Orleans, Louisiana, he grew up
facing hardships at an early age.
Being raised in a part of New Orleans known as The Battlefield because of its faulty economic
situation is not ideal. In addition, his mother did not have a stable job and with his father long out of
the picture, life was hard for young Armstrong. In fifth grade, while being taken care of by his
maternal grandmother most of the time, he left school to work. He was employed by a Jewish family
who encouraged him to sing.(Biography.com)
In 1912, he was sent to Colored Waif s Home for Boys. There, he was educated on the cornet and
grew his love for music. He was released in 1914 and worked odd jobs and dreamed about a life filled
with music. His reputation grew as a blues player. Joe King Oliver (influential cornet player), began
acting as a mentor to the Armstrong. (Biography.com)
Multiple things happened to Armstrong in 1918, he married Daisy Parker and adopted Clarence, the
son of his cousin. His reputation also grew, and as a result, he replaced Oliver in Kid Ory s band, and
spent full time playing his cornet,

Diversity In Literature
On October 18 I attended Dr. Ramona s star lecture Justice for All. Dr. Ramona discussed how justice
plays a role in children and young adult literature. She shows how important it is to not only show
differsity in books but also how important it is to make sure that everyone can read and has access to
books. She spoke on how importance of main characters that have similar backgrounds am you, but
also to be able to see people with different backgrounds doing the same everyday activities as you.
In this paper, I will argue that having different cultures represented in children s books is an important
part of children s literature. I will argue this by showing how it influences our views, and opens our
minds to other people s cultures ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I think that children especially show be shown that although people may look different, or have
different beliefs they go through similar things that they do like trying to make friends, first day of
school and playing in the snow. I think that is important to show this because allows people to realize
that everyone goes through similar things, and no one is better than anyone else. Diverse characters in
children s literature have been used for many years to introduce children to a variety of cultures and
ethnic peoples (Smith D Arezzo 75). Show children other cultures also makes it seem more familiar
with it, and it allows them to have a better understanding of other cultures, and races. Showing
differences and similarities opens people s opinions and views, creating a better understanding of

Our Earth s Sixth Mass Extinction
Throughout the longevity of our Earth s biota, there are recorded times in which the majority of the
pre living fauna and flora were seemingly decimated. According to our fossil record, these bouts of
decimation have totaled to five individual instances throughout the existence of life on Earth. Many
scientists agree in saying that, humans as species are the main cause for current sixth mass extinction.
Some opponents to this theory claim that label of our worldwide ecological state as a sixth mass
extinction , is just an emotional charge that makes the problem seem cosmic and overwhelming
(Brand). This however is not a legitimate statement when taking into account the sheer magnitude of
human involvement and activities that has added ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Many would argue this feat to be a sign of Homo sapiens knack to survive, but in actuality we
survived on the backs of other species (figuratively of course) while in the process of wiping many of
them out. One of the earliest instances of extinction caused by humans was from our ancestors about
12,000 20,000 years ago. When just coming into our prime as the lead predators of the Earth, humans
began to have an impact on hundreds of the surrounding fauna indirectly it seems. According to
radiocarbon dating of the fossils of the two meter tall flightless bird commonly known as the Great
Moa, indicate that they became extinct soon after humans arrived. (Avise 219) Though our ancestors
had no notion of conservation or ecological awareness, humans as a species cannot displace the blame
towards anything but to ourselves. Some believe that the many mega fauna (exceedingly large
animals) that went extinct when humans first started to hunt more rapidly, due to population size
growth, went extinct due to changes in climate not by human interference. This notion is completely
farce. It has been proven through fossil records that the degree in climate change right before those
species went extinct were very similar to the current amount of climate change now. This being said,
we don t see such a massive decline in the present mega fauna today as there seems to have been in
the past. The statistics gained from Robert M. May s Extinction per Thousand of Species

Ecology And Evolution Reflection Paper
Personal Reflection after Ecology and Evolution Being raised as an Evangelical Free Christian,
evolution was considered somewhat of a dirty word. This being said, I knew that there were parts of
evolution that were undeniably true. I also thought that science usually pointed towards evidence of
there being a God. I was never really a Young Earth Creationist. However, I still thought that Young
Earth Creationists could be right because in my opinion, God is omnipotent, and the flood could have
happened further back in history than estimated. The flood then could answer why the continents look
the way they do today compared to pangea, and it could also answer some other geological problems
with Young Earth Creationism. Although I thought it was still possible, I thought it extremely unlikely.
Instead, I thought that the Earth was created much longer ago, but that God still created creatures in
their own kinds , and that these kinds diverged into even more species by natural selection. I knew
evolution could change a species a little bit at a time to the point where there would be two different
species, but I wasn t sold on the whole idea that Evolution could cause a fish to become a human.
However, there were two major things that started to change my mind. The first was the Harvard study
with the petri dish that contained different levels of antibacterial properties. This study showed that
mutations can cause a significant change in a species, and led to me thinking it

The Compact Cameras And My Pocket Sized Camera
As a present, my husband announced that I was to research the newest compact cameras so that I
could update my pocket sized camera. Previously I had a Kodak compact camera however the features
were lacking and it was starting to eat batteries, it was time for a new camera. It was shocking to find
that compact cameras have come a long way since the last time I purchase a compact camera just five
years ago. There were many cameras to choose from and most were under $200.00. Here are my top
eight picks for compact cameras for under $200.00. They are listed in no order of quality or price. 1.
Sony Cybershot W120: If you are looking for a colorful camera to express yourself, this is the camera
for you. It comes in the original silver, or one can choose the same camera in black, pink, blue, or red.
Choosing a color is nice but I found that some colors were $50.00 or more, just to have a color on the
outside case. Similar to the Olympus FE 300, it contains a 15 MB internal memory; 4x Optical Zoom;
2.5 1 LCD Display; Lithium Ion battery; and utilizes a Memory Stick Duo for memory. The only
downside of the camera is that it contains only 7.2 Megapixels, much under the Olympus camera. I
have talked to a friend that owns this camera which states that the camera is good for tons of lighting
like outdoors but does not work well indoors with lower, florescent lighting. It can be purchased at
just about any store for under $200.00, especially at Wal Mart. 2. Canon Powershot SD1100

The Scaffold Scenes in Nathaniel Hawthrone´s The Scarlet...
Nathaniel Hawthorne s The Scarlet Letter is known as a psychological novel regarding humanity, sin,
guilt, and a fair amount of other ambiguous concepts. One of those is the significance of the three
scaffold scenes throughout the work. The scaffold scenes signify religious and moral ideas, such as
sinfulness, the spiritual figures the characters each portray, and the character development achieved by
public and private absolution. The first scaffold scene begins the novel. In chapters two through three,
the protagonist Hester Prynne stands on the scaffold, bearing a scarlet A and a child at her breast as
signs of her adultery. She is interrogated and lectured by the Puritan ministers of the town, including
Arthur Dimmesdale, who is later discovered to have been Hester s partner in crime and the father of
Hester s baby Pearl. The first scaffold scene hosts also the initial appearance of Hester s speculated
dead husband, Roger Chillingworth, amidst the crowd of townspeople watching his wife s public
humiliation. Had there been a Papist among the crowd of Puritans, he might have seen in this beautiful
woman [Hester], so picturesque in her attire and mien, and with the infant at her bosom, an object to
remind him of the image of Divine Maternity... (Hawthorne, ch.2, ¶17). The depiction of Hester as the
Virgin Mary connotes a sympathetic tone of the author towards her character. The sin Hester
committed is to be with her for the rest of her life, and when she removes the

Observation Of Altruism
An Observational Study: Altruism and Door Holding among College Students
The purpose of this observational study is to observe door holding behaviors of both college aged men
and woman to determine their level of altruism, and whether these patterns are motivated through
altruism selflessly or selfishly. Altruism is defined as motivation with the ultimate goal of increasing
the welfare of one or more individuals other than oneself. (Batson, Ahmad, Tsang, 2002) Batson is
known for his altruistic experiments in which a person was aided by an individual, and the
characteristics and the conditions of that person was recorded. Batson is a social psychologist who
believes that altruism is indeed how he defined it, a selfless act. There are two sides when it comes to
the study of altruism one pertains to selflessness (Batson) while others believe altruism is selfishly

Hunger Games Movie Analysis
CLOSE UPS The movie that I chose to analyze is The Hunger Games. This movie is about a girl,
Katniss Everdeen, who volunteers as tribute for the seventy fourth annual Hunger Games in the place
of her sister, Primrose Everdeen, whose name was picked and announced at the reaping. Katniss, the
protagonist played by Jennifer Lawrence, is forced to go outside of her comfort zone when she has to
make friends and train to kill people in order to win the Games and come home to her sister, Primrose,
who is played by Willow Shields. The Hunger Games was directed by Gary Ross and was released on
March 23rd, 2012. The year that this movie was made, a Canadian filmmaker, named James Cameron,
became the first person to visit Challenger Deep, the US President Barack Obama secured Democratic
presidential nomination, and The Avengers premiered in Los Angeles. Watching this movie, now in
2017, still gives me the same feeling it did when I watched it for the first time in 2012. I can see that
the cast and crew for The Hunger Games were picked out carefully. That being said, I thought this
movie was marvelous. The crew did a great job with the elements used in determining the type of
movie, mise en scene, cinematography, acting, editing, and sound. There are many types of movies,
such as narrative movies, documentary movies, and experimental movies. This movie is an example of
a narrative movie. This movie is fiction and entertains most people. Narrative films may be broken

Frank Lloyd Wright Research Paper
Frank Lloyd Wright s name remains in history as being one of the most original American architects
of the 20th century. Wright s innovative architectural designs have forever impacted the way humans
live today. His world renounced projects make his name widely known as one of greatest architects of
all time. Wright was born in Richland Center, Wisconsin on June 8, 1867. Throughout Wright s
childhood, his family often relocated, ranging from Rhode Island to Wisconsin. As a child Wright was
an adventure seeker and embraced Wisconsin landscapes. Wright once said, The modeling of the hills,

Why Smoking Is A Public Health Problem
Why this issue is important to you?
Hookah smoking is an issue because it is a socially acceptable way to consume tobacco, especially
among young adult, due to its attractive fruity tastes and odor contrary to regular cigarettes. Hookah
lounges are a preferable place for many people to smoke, socialize, and in some cases to study. In my
opinion the spread of such lounges could increase the number of smokers, not to mention second hand
smoking. This is unfortunate, especially with the huge progress we have made in the fight against
cigarette smoking, while hookah lounges are getting more popular and may weaken our progression in
this matter. The pictures that were taken show how hookah lounges are clearly targeting college
students by opening across the street from main campus, to them this is just business, while to others
this is an important public health concern.
Why it is a public health problem?
Hookah smoking is a public health problem that is growing rapidly nationwide, especially among
young adults and college students.1 Hookah consumers have a perception that it is less harmful than
smoking cigarettes, while evidence show that hookah smoke contains many of the same harmful
toxins as cigarette smoke and has been linked to lung cancer, respiratory illness, low birth weight, and
periodontal disease. A report from the World Health Organization showed that a hookah smoker may
be exposed to a larger dose of smoke in one smoking session when compared to cigarette smoking,

My Personal Social Identity Project
In preparation for doing ethnographic research, it is crucial that one understands not only what
ethnography is and how it relates to its audience, but also how one s own identities influence the
research taking place. For these reasons, this Digital Culture Project will focus on, among other things,
what ethnography is and its relationship to various media as well as self ethnography and realizing its
importance when conducting ethnographic research. Additionally, my personal social identity will be
examined and reflected upon. First and foremost, an understanding must be had of what ethnography
is. To define ethnography, I will defer to Ellen Isaacs, a corporate ethnographer for Xerox PARC, who

Ruth Behar, in her book, The Vulnerable Observer, humorously claims that nothing is stranger than
this business of humans observing other humans in order to write about them, so naturally, presenting
the information gathered through such observations can be seen as something of a challenge for
ethnographers (Behar, 5). While many ethnographers have continued using literal media to present
their research, others have taken to digital media in new and effective ways. Fortunately, with the
growing presence and accessibility of computer technology, ethnography and the digital media have
become increasingly intertwined in their use. Arguably, the most effective ethnographic research
incorporates new media and technologies into how its narratives are portrayed. According to
Underberg and Zorn, ethnography that uses a diverse set of media such as videos, photographs, or
digital media to communicate multisensory experience[s] and knowledge is known as multisensory
ethnography (Underberg and Zorn, 18 19). In using various media to present research, not only are
ethnographers able to have more control over how their audience perceives their findings, but they
also make those findings more accessible to audiences of all ages. For example, a two hundred page
book documenting a year spent in the villages of sub Saharan Africa is largely appealing only to those
in academia, but an interactive exhibit

Becoming An Immigration Lawyer Essay
Where do you see yourself in the future? For me this question comes with a simple answer. In the

Political science. Afterwards I will be expanding my knowledge about legal practices at Sturm College

exactly what I wanted to be when I grew up. Also, the way she was able to offer so much help to
people who were in need really inspired me to pursue a career as an immigration lawyer. Passion, to

Economic Justice Vs Distributive Justice Essay
An average American employee must work for an entire year before he or she earns what the average
American CEO earns in one day (Rezvani, Pirouz 6). The United States GINI coefficient, a measure
of income inequality, sits at 0.590 one of the highest marks in the entire developed world (4). A
majority of wealth sits in the hands of less than one percent of the country and those lucky enough to
fall under this percentage are catered to by politicians in search of reelection. That said, it is easy for
one to wonder whether the We the People mantra has been replaced with a mantra of We the
Corporations (10). Clearly, economic injustices transcend economic issues and affect more than a
citizen s bank account.

In the most general sense, distributive justice refers to justice in the allocation of resources while
commutative justice refers to justice in acts of exchange. Distributive economic justice requires that
every individual should have the moderate income needed for the basic necessities while commutative
economic justice requires that the price of commodities be set at an agreed upon standard of equity
(Macpherson 7). Minimum wage serves as a tool for distributive economic justice as it ensures that
citizens have the means for basic sustenance while the free market system serves as a tool for
commutative economic justice as its grants largely unrestricted access for both consumers and
producers. To date, most of the research regarding economic justice has supported distributive theories
because the main requirement for commutative economic justice, equality of access, is limited by
uncontrollable forces like geography, race, and gender, which can all prevent access to economic
systems (Armour

Numerical Modeling And Tropical Meteorology
My general areas of interest are numerical modeling and tropical meteorology. For example,
numerical simulation models of tropical cyclones is the problem that interest me most in atmospheric
science. Based on one or two problems in tropical meteorology or related fields, I hope to work based
on the existing models, and make unique contributions. My ultimate goal is to develop skills to
become a sophisticated researcher and teacher in the field, while pursuing a doctorate degree in
atmospheric sciences.
My interest on PDEs dates back to high school. Since typhoons frequently struck my hometown, I
developed interest in the forecast of tropical cyclones. Guided by a net pal with a master s degree in
meteorology, I started to systematically study the basics of weather prediction. However, when
reading Principles of Meteorological Analysis, I encountered PDEs describing dynamics of
atmosphere, which was incomprehensible for me then. Realizing that a solid math foundation would
be critical to further study in meteorology, I chose to study mathematics in University of California,
Los Angeles (UCLA).
After finishing basic math courses, I challenged myself with a year long series of honors algebra
course, in which group theory, ring theory and Galois theory were covered. The homework sets and
take home exams in this course horned my skills of solving hard math problems. With limited clues
for each problem, I had to review related definitions and theorems carefully, and

This report provides in depth look into Wiggo current business strategy and Indonesian grocery retail
market condition in order to assess the feasibility and provide strategic marketing plan for Wiggo to
enter Indonesian market.
Key to this plan is the opportunity of business in Indonesia as an emerging market and top 10 most
attractive destinations for FDI in UNCTAD s World Investment Prospects Survey in 2010. Macro and
micro economic analysis uncovered that
Indonesia is an attractive market for Wiggo s business expansion though attention should be paid to
infrastructure support, widespread corruption and social stability issue.
Like most Asian countries, Indonesian grocery retail market is far from saturation. There are much
scope for modern format retailers to increase penetration in suburban area and second tier cities.
Competition would be expected in
Wiggo s business segment which is medium supermarket size with the massive local retailer s
expansion. This retail sector will achieve double substantial growth with expected amount of
US$70.73 billion in 2015.
To create and increase brand awareness, make product affordable and appealing for Indonesian market
to capture 1% of market share in 5 years, the following marketing mix is suggested:
1. Product: Localization of products, imitating local supermarket in product selection and store
display, providing fresh food and

The Pros And Cons Of The Salem Witchcraft Trials
The Massachusetts Salem witch craft trials, this was a complicated time in history. With the conflict of
the hangings, Salem didn t have the best compromise. At a time in history when the government didn t
give Puritans religious rights, the Salem Massachusetts witch craft trials began. This conflict led to
trails where the government convicted men and woman of practicing witch craft, thus being hanged.
Though this compromise stopped the witchcraft practicing, the government realized those men and
woman were wrongly convicted later on. Today the government understands to let all civilians

The emphasis on satanic influence and belief in the inferiority of women as conduits of evil made
Puritan communities particularly vulnerable to the hysteria that was constantly inflamed by the
dangerous and uncertain conditions of colonial life. The community atmosphere of seventeenth
century Massachusetts was one of isolationism, paranoia, and repression. Modern historians have
discerned a pattern of crisis and subsequent hysteria among the Puritan villages. Communities in
colonial Massachusetts were extremely vulnerable to famine, attacks from neighboring Indian tribes,
epidemics, and general economic hardship. Communities would generally band together during these
times of crisis, but as soon as the crisis had passed, they would vent their tension and fear by lashing
out at neighbors with accusations of witchcraft as the underlying cause of the crisis. People from
Europe began coming to the U.S to have their religious freedom. In 1691, the new rulers of England,
Mary and William, created a new religious charter, instead of reissuing the old charter, and also

Misreading Scripture With Western Eyes
While reading the novel Misreading Scripture with Western Eyes one might ve found the same
following points and given a summary about the misreading s and hidden points in the bible.
Misreading Scripture with Western Eyes gives the reader well enlightened concepts to the bible that
before might have been obscured, but now have been broken down into terms that people from the
western part of the world can comprehend such as ice bergs. The author uses many a resemblances to
the bible and how other supportive countries of our world see it inversely. The author uses these
metaphors to build an understanding for the reader so that they can make comparisons themselves.
The author uses the metaphor about the iceberg to assemble the book into three different sections. The
tip (being the part of the world that we all see and have come to recognize misconceptions. below the
surface (the part of which only certain liberally and religiously educated beings notice, and the
massive section of the iceberg that is completely unseen to people. In the beginning chapter the author
speaks frequently of moral values that society in the past saw and assumed was correct because they
were the first to know the meaning. Moving forward through out the chapter however the author
explains that since the bible was written throughout a different period and setting, we people of the
future have come to twist and misread these moral values.
The next piece of the novel discusses on how society

Anglo Saxon society was decidedly patriarchal, but women were in some ways better off than they
would be in later times. A woman could own property in her own right. She could and did rule a
kingdom if her husband died. She could not be married without her consent and any personal goods,
including lands that she brought into a marriage remained her own property. If she were injured or
abused in her marriage her relatives were expected to look after her interests (David Ross.) The
women were responsible for grounding of grains, baking of bread, brewing of beer, making of butter
and cheese. During this era it was dangerous to travel; thus, most people would travel only if it was
unavoidable. If possible they would travel by water along the coast or along the river. During the early
Anglo Saxon period England was a very different place from what it is today. The human population
was very small. They grew their own food and made their own clothes... The lord and kin had the
strongest ties in the Anglo Saxon society. The ties of loyalty were to the person of a lord. There was no
real concept of patriotism or loyalty to a cause. Kings could not, except in exceptional circumstances,
make new laws. Their role instead was to uphold and clarify previous custom. The first act of a
conquering king was often to assure his subjects that he would uphold their ancient privileges, laws,
and customs (David Ross.) One of the most famous kings during the

Effects Of Anobolic Steroids Essay
The Effects of Anabolic Steroids
You ve all seen them, the enormously large muscle heads at the gym, the participates of the World s
Strongest Man Competition, the amazing offensive tackles, and the lightning fast runners. They were
all unnaturally strong, and looked like gods. You tend to obsess over how beautiful their bodies are,
how strong they are, or how fast they can run. All you can think about is reaching that level of athletic
excellence, and nothing will hold you back. At times like these some people tend to take the quick fit

When you think of someone who uses steroids, you typically picture someone who is massive, and
whose muscle mass is very well defined. A picture comes to mind of the giant bodybuilder, who is so
big he can t find any type of clothing that will fit the shapes and curves of his body. His thigh, arms
and chest are much too massive to fit into any type of normal clothing. He has to rely on a tailor to
make clothes that fit the proportions of their body. But at the same time this physique allows him to
squat with his car on his shoulders. The possible growth and development is amazing. With much less
work necessary, the results can be astounding. Athletes can get bigger, stronger and faster, with less
effort than they could put forth before. The limits of athletes potential with steroids seem to be
unbounded. These are the positive aspects to the use of steroids. One study showed that as much as ten
pounds of lean muscle could be gained by a mature adult using steroids over a year s period. The
resulting size and strength increases would be greatly more easier attained than without use of
steroids.(Taylor pg. 45) Also, the type of body structure that may males are looking for can be easily

Kantian Triangle, By Immanuel Kant Essay
Kantian Triangle
Liberals believe the causes of war are miscommunication, mistrust, and misperceptions. As a solution,
Immanuel Kant, a German philosopher, believed that to overcome international anarchy and achieve
perpetual peace, there needed to be collective action (interdependency between states), and a
federation of states in which state sovereignty will be left intact (international organizations).
However, for this to occur, states must have a democratic government. This later became known as the
Kantian Triangle.
Kant assumed that states would act in self interested ways and that repeated interactions would
eventually lead to an expanding zone of peace for example NATO. Like Kant s theory, the Prisoner s
Dilemma is a model that posed that after continued repeated interactions, states would realize that it s
in their best interest to cooperate. Economic interdependency, also known as functionalism, proposes
that states take cooperative ventures in nonpolitical areas such as the economy and security. This in
turn will lead to greater interdependence and eventually, greater peace. Functionalism is a means to
achieve peace now, starting with economic interdependence through international organizations such
as the European Community. It is also a strategy in which international organizations, including the
United Nations, use to promote interdependency and thus, maintain peace. Consequently,
functionalism is most successful under a democratic government. Liberals

Persuasive Speech For Labor Crisis
America s Skilled Labor labor crisis has always been overshadowed by other U.S issues. In my
opinion this is a very important problem that needs to be resolved. Today I will inform you on the
strategies I would take to solve the labor shortage. First off, being that most younger workers are
dependent on technology. I think it would be a good idea to use that to an advantage. Many companies
have adopted the use of employee devices and enterprise apps to conduct and manage work within the
company. Mobile smart phones and tablets are used everyday by millions of people across the world.
By developing apps and other technological tools, then a company can be much more relatable to a
work s interests. Which will improve a shortage of worker in a company. Make the company more
interesting by posting useful content. It can get very tiresome if all a company publishes are job
postings. I think a great idea would be to publish company news, updates and share on social media.
They could also use other platforms like your company blogs, newsletters or even industry blogs. This
increases the visibility of the company and has the potential to reach a greater number of applicants.
Basically, just use product updates, new employees and any of your company s latest news as a way to
sell your company to job seekers. Give people a sneak peek. Put the profile of new employees on the
company website as soon as possible once they have been selected to join the team. It makes the

Drug Subdiction And Drug Addiction
Drug addiction is a crippling problem in the United States, and has the possibility of affecting every
single person. May it be from someone in the upper class, to a single mother who is living in poverty,
this form of substance abuse is becoming more and more abundant in recent times. Unfortunately,
many people who have never dealt with or looked into substance abuse often blame the individual for
what happened. The sociological imagination, on the other hand, says otherwise. According to C
Wright Mills sociological imagination, private troubles, such as substance abuse, often have a root in
public issues of social structure. Sadly, the societal roots of many issues are not seen by others,
causing the individual and their choices to be seen as the cause of their problem. In turn, this view
may support a punitive perspective against the person in question. In the case of Brittney May, her
drug addiction had started at a relatively young age, and as a result of it, she had ended up in prison.
Although she has been released after her first long sentence, she ended up being convicted again, and
is currently in prison. Additionally, her prison sentence ended up making her lose custody of her child.
Fortunately, her old mother agreed to take care of that child.
Growing up in a low income bracket neighborhood, Brittney was already placed in a society which
had a number of adverse effects on her. Ranging from negative peer pressure from the children
surrounding her, to the

My Leadership Style Analysis
This week I take on Ohio as I learn to grow as a leader.
Today a lot of the things we talked about really hit home with me, and I actually cried in a room full of
strangers as I told them my story and why I chose to be a leader.
But today we talked about resilience. We defined resilience as:
The process of adapting well in the face of adversity, trauma, tragedy, threats or significant sources of
stress.
This definition really spoke to me. I have been facing this day after day ever since April, and today we
had a lady talk to us about it for 2 hours, but it felt like it was only seconds. She helped me to realize
that I am not alone, that I have other sisters out there that are fighting, if not the same battle, one that
is similar to mine. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I definitely relate to these characteristics way more... Most of the time they all occur at once.
To fold up into yourself is basically when you look at people and just say I can t with you right now.
You hide away, turn off your phone, turn off all communication with the outside world, and basically
just become one with your bed... and maybe a bag of taco bell. With my depression, I am guilty of this
a lot. People try to talk to me and then I get in trouble because I get irritated that they won t just leave
me alone with myself for a bit... That s often when I storm off. You just hit that point where you ve
had enough and you just need to run away from all your responsibilities. This was comforting to hear
from someone else, because I was starting to worry that maybe part of my three year old self had held
onto parts of my brain. Next is to blame others. You don t want to accept that you have done wrong or
that you have messed up, so you start putting the blame on other people. Next, you require total
control. In a leadership role, sometimes you feel like you have lost control of a situation, so you try to
regain control by taking all of it. You shut people out, and you tell them that you don t need their help.
As a bit of a control freak, like I said, I am very guilty of this. As I come into contact with more and
more leaders on campus, I have learned to step back and just observe situations and let other people
handle them. I have

Tertiary Proteins Globular
. The 3 D tertiary structure of polypeptide proteins globular and is the result of interactions that occur

each protein. Tertiary proteins are held together by four different types of forces; hydrogen bonds,
hydrophobic interactions (including Van der Waals interactions), ionic bonding (electrostatic
interactions), and disulfide bridges (strong covalent bonds). Hydrogen bonds occur within and
between polypeptide chains and the aqueous environment. Hydrogen bonding forms between a highly
electronegative oxygen atom or a nitrogen atom and a hydrogen atom attached to another oxygen atom

PrPc (a healthy prion) generally functions in this way but when unhealthy PrPSc comes into contact
with healthy PrPc it converts healthy to unhealthy. This disrupts the cell and the cell will make another
healthy PrPc in its place. This is how the disease unfolds. The cell replaces the healthy protein that has
become unhealthy PrPSc; only for it to then be converted to unhealthy. PrPSc eventually converts all
healthy PrPc proteins to PrPSc. PrPSc; the misfolded and unhealthy prion acts as its own chaperone.
Proteosomes exist to destroy proteins that misfold. Our defense mechanisms do not recognize the
PrPSc as foreign and therefore do not destroy it. It continues to proliferate as it turns PrPc to PrPSc.
Since PrPSc is hydrophobic it tends to hide from water and turn inward and clump together in the
cells. This is called aggregation. Eventually the PrPSc overtakes and kills the cell and leave the
appearance of tissues looking spongy. New cells do not grow in dead cells place and PrPSc finds new
cells to invade as the disease progresses (Cobb Surewicz,

The Stereotype Of A Smart High Achieving Asian American...
The model minority is a member of a minority group either based on ethnicity, race, or religion whose
members are commonly perceived to achieve a higher level of success than the average population.
The success that an individual reaches is typically measured by income, education, low crime rates
and high family stability achieved throughout their lives. The stereotype of the model minority is
commonly associated with Asian Americans as they are assumed to achieve highly in academics
which will thus propel them up the economic ladder. The stereotype of a smart high achieving Asian
American student is fueled by other stereotypes such as Asians being good at math and that they all go
to college. The intelligence stereotypes created by society are the reason why some individuals feel
pressured to succeed and feel as if failure is not as option. If its not the student who feels the pressure,

necessarily the child s desire. However, along with the idea of a child succeeding both academically

Grand Jean then immediately terminates the relationship, and does not try to aid its contractors in any
way that we have noticed. This is a waste of invested time and resources in the relationship, which
could be easily avoided by closer collaboration and communication, combined with more a more
flexible framework. The existing facilities are not used for a period of time; which is an additional
waste of resources.
The key metrics that Grand Jean use to evaluate the company s performance are very outdated. The
main focus throughout the company is to focus on production output and metrics that affect or can be
derived from focusing on production quantity e.g. production/year, standard hours/pair. However,
there seems to be no consideration of metrics that affect the overall performance of the company.
As mentioned before, the contractor s that failed to meet expectations were usually just replaced by a
new contractor in the same existing facility, this is an activity that impacts the company s overall
performance, as time and money has to again be spent re negotiating terms of agreement, setting up
and starting production lines. Overall the key metrics do not focus on activities that can have a more
profound impact on the company s performance. The heavy focus on production quota causes the
company to

AMH 2097 Paper 2
The White Anglo Saxon Protestants (WASPs) have been at the top of the social hierarchy ever since
they arrived to America in the 1600s. The first wave of immigration consisted of the Germans, Irish
and Chinese. The WASPs created a way to measure the success of each immigrant group. They
acknowledged four factors of success that would show them whether an immigrant group was
successful or not. The first factor of success was how much money an immigrant had when they came
to America. The more money they came to America with, the more successful they were. Another
factor of an immigrant s success was how large the group they came with was. The larger the group,

Through their settlement, they proved to the WASPs that they were capable of functioning in society
without disturbing the WASPs at all.
The WASPs also respected the Germans because the Germans were Protestant. The Germans also
proved that they were extremely hardworking. They created many businesses, some of which still
exist today. The Germans also brought over foods such as hot dogs, apple pie, and pretzels.
Furthermore, the Germans came in quite small numbers, which the WASPs definitely appreciated. The
Germans did not have to assimilate and live on their own, without the WASPs having to take care of
them. Finally, the Germans were relatively welcomed when they arrived to America. The only
stereotype given to them was a positive one, claiming that they were the model immigrants that every
other immigrant group should aspire to be like. All in all, the six million Germans who came to the
United States during the first wave were well liked by the WASPs and had a successful and smooth
immigration into America.
Arguably the least successful immigrant group that arrived to America was the Irish. When the Irish
landed in the United States, the WASPs immediately disliked them. First off, the Irish came over with
barely any money, which indicated to the WASPs that they were unsuccessful and unintelligent. The
Irish came over to America in tightly packed ships called coffin ships. They were called coffin ships

The song Lucy In The Sky With Diamonds , performed by The Beatles, written in the year 1967, by
John Lennon, takes the listener on a journey into the imagination. The most common interpretation of
Lucy In The Sky With Diamonds is that the lyrics of the song follow the journey that one would
embark on after taking the drug LSD which would project wild imaginings. Other interpretations of
Lucy In The Sky With Diamonds are that Lennon had a girlfriend named Lucy and that the song is

In Lucy In The Sky With Diamonds , there is a lot of imagery; these following examples make it very
easy to project the pictures of the song into the mind. Imagery is shown by lines such as cellophane
flowers of yellow and green and marmalade skies these lines give the listener a sense of being there,
and being able to see what the composer has portrayed in the song.
The second person technique combined with the technique of imagery, created by alliteration,
tangerine trees and plasticine porters which helps the description stand out, and adjectives such as
newspaper taxis .
There are some techniques that are harder to find, and be easily looked over. This is shown in the
starting line of each verse is innocent and would maybe appeal to a child s mind. For example the
newspaper taxis appearing on the shore could refer to paper boats appearing on the shore.
This text explores the journey as means of searching for something as throughout the song, the listener
is told to look for the girl with the sun in her eyes who appears difficult to find. Not until the end of
the song and, the end of the journey, the girl with kaleidoscope eyes is found. It seems that she was the
purpose of the journey into the imaginative world.
This song relates to journeys because it is believed to be an acid trip, it is a journey through John

Mother s Vs. Father s And Birthing Process
Thesis Statement
Mother s vs. Father s and birthing process. For a working woman, maternity leave is a standard part of
giving birth. Physically, the new mother needs that time to recover from the birthing process, but there
is an emotional reason, too. Experts preach over and over that for those first few weeks of a baby s
life, it needs the interaction and touch of its mother to help with bonding to start their development on
the right track. Shouldn t the father be part of that process as well? Shouldn t the father of the new
child be able to take paternity leave from work? I believe they should, not only to bond with the child,
but to help the mother with her recovery and to coordinate visitors, appointments and any errands that
may be needed. Some people have a stigma that the mother is the one responsible for raising the child
from birth. I respectfully disagree. I believe the father should be as much a part of a baby s first weeks
as the mother. Why should a father be robbed of the intimate bonding time with his child just because
he didn t physically give birth to them? I feel this would help the father take better care of the child
when the mother returns to work, especially if the father is home at different times than the mother.
Having time at home bonding with their father will help the child recognize him when their mother is
not around and put them at ease. Studies have also shown that fathers who are home on paternity leave
are more likely to be

Importance Of Subpixel Significance Of Image Correlance
Subpixel correlation of optical imagery is also based on normalized cross correlation. However, COSI
CORR applies correlation in both spatial and frequencies domain (Yaseen Anwar, 2013). This allows a
spatial correlation that gives the 2 D displacement. Figure 4.9 and 4.8 shows the spatial displacement.
The black box shows landslide area. These two bands combined gives a vector field (figure 4.11). This
vector field shows the direction of landslide. To achieve a good correlation is needed. Correlation of
image needs several careful decision making. Different parameters can change the image correlation
quality. In figure 4.9 shows the quality of the image correlation. Here, the result of correlation is not
great but it is usable as a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
A careful look at this gives a view of other landslide area within the image. The figure 4.12 gives us
the holistic view of the target landslide. It is a north west facing landslide. This matches the aspect
map that shows the landslide location to be on the north facing slope (figure 2.1). The displacement
measured from SAR analysis to be 193m (after dividing with the step size 3) and from the optical
subpixel correlation, the displacement is calculated to be 148m (after dividing with the step size 4).
The displacement is measured as the length of the landslide. The list of limitations faced in this study
is quite large. From data acquisition to analysis, several constraints has been met during this study.
First, the SAR image that is freely available that gives the temporal coverage of the landslide in
question is Sentinel 1A. This satellite instrument captures SAR image using C band which uses 5 7 cm
wavelength and 5.35 GHz frequency (Alsdorf et al., 2007; Potin, 2013). This c band cannot pierce the
vegetation canopy to reach ground (Moran et al., 1998). This lead to some decorrelation in the image
as the study area is a highly vegetated area. One Previous study used corner reflector for better result
while measuring slow onset landslide movement (Sun Muller, 2016). Nonetheless, in this study, no
corner reflectors were used, as the landslide was rapid onset and there were no previously CRs
installed in that area.

earth. This just makes the argument bigger about North Korea denying that these labor camps exist.
After all the evidence and memoirs of North Koreans that have escaped from these labor camps, the
real question is should the United States intervene?
One of the top solutions is for the United States to intervene and liberate all the North Korean
prisoners ( How Did We Get Here? A Timeline of the North Korean Nuclear Threat ). For example,

starved, or tortured; it goes against all human rights. The benefits of going to war would be liberating
hundreds and thousands of North Korean prisoners, we would have control of North and South Korea
if the U.S. won and we would be eliminating a dictator who is a major threat as of 2013 ( How potent
are North Korea s threats? ). Or, the United

artist jewelers Raymond Templier, H.G. Murphy, and Wiwen Nilsson; and the figural sculptor
Chiparus. The fashion designer Paul Poiret and the graphic artist Edward McKnight Kauffer represent
those whose work directly reached a larger audience. New York City s Rockefeller Center, the
Chrysler Building (Left) by William Van Alen, and the Empire State Building by Shreve, Lamb
Harmon are the most monumental embodiments of Art Deco. During the 1930s the style took over
South Beach in Miami, Florida, producing an area known as the Art Deco historic district. (The

Analysis Of In The Time Of The Butterflies Reading through the intrepid journeys of this novel, we come to learn about each of the four Mirabal sisters, along with their attitude and actions towards their merciless leader. In Julia Alvarez s In The Time of the Butterflies, readers are introduced to four sisters living under the dictatorship of Rafael Trujillo, the head of the Dominican Republic. All sisters harbor an intense hatred for the state, but among them, two sisters in particular bear stronger differences than the others Minerva and Dede. Minerva is an adamant character whom delves deeper into the secrets of Trujillo and the coming revolution, whereas Dede s character shies away and lingers in the back. While Minerva and Dede both long to see the corrupt regime overthrown, it is only Minerva who jumps into action to oppose the state. Minerva, the most resilient sister, uses her audacity, combined with a desire for equality, to express her opinions and challenge the state, while Dede s reserved and wary self leads her to remain hesitant in public. When time comes for Minerva to attend one of the many grand parties of Trujillo, the lustful leader decides that she must belong to him, and makes an effort to entice her through conversations of keeping her beloved university open. Expectedly, Minerva is not in the least swayed by Trujillo s persuasion, and when he physically forces himself on her in pursuit of her consent to stay, she raises her hand in defense, and as if it had a mind on its own [came] down ... His diversity sets him apart from other jazz artists because he managed to stay relevant throughout different musical eras like, the ENOJ era, The Swing Era, Blues etc., until the end of his career. The accomplishments he has achieved throughout his life and the hardships he has gone through has shaped his persona, contributing to how he will become as an artist. His instrumental style, singing, career throughout musical eras, accomplishments, and etc., contribute to how adaptable and diverse he is. Behind all of his accomplishments, he is a regular person just like any other. Born on August 4, 1901, in New Orleans, Louisiana, he grew up facing hardships at an early age. Being raised in a part of New Orleans known as The Battlefield because of its faulty economic situation is not ideal. In addition, his mother did not have a stable job and with his father long out of the picture, life was hard for young Armstrong. • 4. Diversity In Literature On October 18 I attended Dr. Ramona s star lecture Justice for All. Dr. Ramona discussed how justice plays a role in children and young adult literature. She shows how important it is to not only show differsity in books but also how important it is to make sure that everyone can read and has access to books. She spoke on how importance of main characters that have similar backgrounds am you, but also to be able to see people with different backgrounds doing the same everyday activities as you. In this paper, I will argue that having different cultures represented in children s books is an important part of children s literature. Diverse characters in children s literature have been used for many years to introduce children to a variety of cultures and ethnic peoples (Smith D Arezzo 75). • 5. Our Earth s Sixth Mass Extinction Throughout the longevity of our Earth s biota, there are recorded times in which the majority of the pre living fauna and flora were seemingly decimated. According to our fossil record, these bouts of decimation have totaled to five individual instances throughout the existence of life on Earth. Many scientists agree in saying that, humans as species are the main cause for current sixth mass extinction. Some opponents to this theory claim that label of our worldwide ecological state as a sixth mass extinction , is just an emotional charge that makes the problem seem cosmic and overwhelming (Brand). Many would argue this feat to be a sign of Homo sapiens knack to survive, but in actuality we survived on the backs of other species (figuratively of course) while in the process of wiping many of them out. One of the earliest instances of extinction caused by humans was from our ancestors about 12,000 20,000 years ago. When just coming into our prime as the lead predators of the Earth, humans began to have an impact on hundreds of the surrounding fauna indirectly it seems. According to radiocarbon dating of the fossils of the two meter tall flightless bird commonly known as the Great Moa, indicate that they became extinct soon after humans arrived. (Avise 219) Though our ancestors had no notion of conservation or ecological awareness, humans as a species cannot displace the blame towards anything but to ourselves. Some believe that the many mega fauna (exceedingly large animals) that went extinct when humans first started to hunt more rapidly, due to population size growth, went extinct due to changes in climate not by human interference. This notion is completely farce. It has been proven through fossil records that the degree in climate change right before those species went extinct were very similar to the current amount of climate change now. This being said, we don t see such a massive decline in the present mega fauna today as there seems to have been in the past. The statistics gained from Robert M. • 6. Ecology And Evolution Reflection Paper Personal Reflection after Ecology and Evolution Being raised as an Evangelical Free Christian, evolution was considered somewhat of a dirty word. This being said, I knew that there were parts of evolution that were undeniably true. I also thought that science usually pointed towards evidence of there being a God. I was never really a Young Earth Creationist. However, I still thought that Young Earth Creationists could be right because in my opinion, God is omnipotent, and the flood could have happened further back in history than estimated. The flood then could answer why the continents look the way they do today compared to pangea, and it could also answer some other geological problems with Young Earth Creationism. Although I thought it was still possible, I thought it extremely unlikely. Instead, I thought that the Earth was created much longer ago, but that God still created creatures in their own kinds , and that these kinds diverged into even more species by natural selection. I knew evolution could change a species a little bit at a time to the point where there would be two different species, but I wasn t sold on the whole idea that Evolution could cause a fish to become a human. However, there were two major things that started to change my mind. The first was the Harvard study with the petri dish that contained different levels of antibacterial properties. This study showed that mutations can cause a significant change in a species, and led to me thinking it ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Previously I had a Kodak compact camera however the features were lacking and it was starting to eat batteries, it was time for a new camera. It was shocking to find that compact cameras have come a long way since the last time I purchase a compact camera just five years ago. There were many cameras to choose from and most were under $200.00. Here are my top eight picks for compact cameras for under $200.00. They are listed in no order of quality or price. 1. Sony Cybershot W120: If you are looking for a colorful camera to express yourself, this is the camera for you. It comes in the original silver, or one can choose the same camera in black, pink, blue, or red. Choosing a color is nice but I found that some colors were $50.00 or more, just to have a color on the outside case. Similar to the Olympus FE 300, it contains a 15 MB internal memory; 4x Optical Zoom; 2.5 1 LCD Display; Lithium Ion battery; and utilizes a Memory Stick Duo for memory. The only downside of the camera is that it contains only 7.2 Megapixels, much under the Olympus camera. I have talked to a friend that owns this camera which states that the camera is good for tons of lighting like outdoors but does not work well indoors with lower, florescent lighting. It can be purchased at just about any store for under $200.00, especially at Wal Mart. 2. Canon Powershot SD1100 ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 8. The Scaffold Scenes in Nathaniel Hawthrone´s The Scarlet... Nathaniel Hawthorne s The Scarlet Letter is known as a psychological novel regarding humanity, sin, guilt, and a fair amount of other ambiguous concepts. One of those is the significance of the three scaffold scenes throughout the work. The scaffold scenes signify religious and moral ideas, such as sinfulness, the spiritual figures the characters each portray, and the character development achieved by public and private absolution. The first scaffold scene begins the novel. In chapters two through three, the protagonist Hester Prynne stands on the scaffold, bearing a scarlet A and a child at her breast as signs of her adultery. She is interrogated and lectured by the Puritan ministers of the town, including Arthur Dimmesdale, who is later discovered to have been Hester s partner in crime and the father of Hester s baby Pearl. The first scaffold scene hosts also the initial appearance of Hester s speculated dead husband, Roger Chillingworth, amidst the crowd of townspeople watching his wife s public humiliation. Had there been a Papist among the crowd of Puritans, he might have seen in this beautiful woman [Hester], so picturesque in her attire and mien, and with the infant at her bosom, an object to remind him of the image of Divine Maternity... This movie is about a girl, Katniss Everdeen, who volunteers as tribute for the seventy fourth annual Hunger Games in the place of her sister, Primrose Everdeen, whose name was picked and announced at the reaping. Katniss, the protagonist played by Jennifer Lawrence, is forced to go outside of her comfort zone when she has to make friends and train to kill people in order to win the Games and come home to her sister, Primrose, who is played by Willow Shields. The Hunger Games was directed by Gary Ross and was released on March 23rd, 2012. The year that this movie was made, a Canadian filmmaker, named James Cameron, became the first person to visit Challenger Deep, the US President Barack Obama secured Democratic presidential nomination, and The Avengers premiered in Los Angeles. Watching this movie, now in 2017, still gives me the same feeling it did when I watched it for the first time in 2012. I can see that the cast and crew for The Hunger Games were picked out carefully. That being said, I thought this movie was marvelous. The crew did a great job with the elements used in determining the type of movie, mise en scene, cinematography, acting, editing, and sound. There are many types of movies, such as narrative movies, documentary movies, and experimental movies. This movie is an example of a narrative movie. This movie is fiction and entertains most people. Hookah smoking is an issue because it is a socially acceptable way to consume tobacco, especially among young adult, due to its attractive fruity tastes and odor contrary to regular cigarettes. Hookah lounges are a preferable place for many people to smoke, socialize, and in some cases to study. In my opinion the spread of such lounges could increase the number of smokers, not to mention second hand smoking. This is unfortunate, especially with the huge progress we have made in the fight against cigarette smoking, while hookah lounges are getting more popular and may weaken our progression in this matter. The pictures that were taken show how hookah lounges are clearly targeting college students by opening across the street from main campus, to them this is just business, while to others this is an important public health concern. Why it is a public health problem? Hookah smoking is a public health problem that is growing rapidly nationwide, especially among young adults and college students.1 Hookah consumers have a perception that it is less harmful than smoking cigarettes, while evidence show that hookah smoke contains many of the same harmful toxins as cigarette smoke and has been linked to lung cancer, respiratory illness, low birth weight, and periodontal disease. Ruth Behar, in her book, The Vulnerable Observer, humorously claims that nothing is stranger than this business of humans observing other humans in order to write about them, so naturally, presenting the information gathered through such observations can be seen as something of a challenge for ethnographers (Behar, 5). While many ethnographers have continued using literal media to present their research, others have taken to digital media in new and effective ways. Fortunately, with the growing presence and accessibility of computer technology, ethnography and the digital media have become increasingly intertwined in their use. Arguably, the most effective ethnographic research incorporates new media and technologies into how its narratives are portrayed. According to Underberg and Zorn, ethnography that uses a diverse set of media such as videos, photographs, or digital media to communicate multisensory experience[s] and knowledge is known as multisensory ethnography (Underberg and Zorn, 18 19). In using various media to present research, not only are ethnographers able to have more control over how their audience perceives their findings, but they also make those findings more accessible to audiences of all ages. Minimum wage serves as a tool for distributive economic justice as it ensures that citizens have the means for basic sustenance while the free market system serves as a tool for commutative economic justice as its grants largely unrestricted access for both consumers and producers. Communities in colonial Massachusetts were extremely vulnerable to famine, attacks from neighboring Indian tribes, epidemics, and general economic hardship. • 25. Kantian Triangle, By Immanuel Kant Essay Kantian Triangle Liberals believe the causes of war are miscommunication, mistrust, and misperceptions. As a solution, Immanuel Kant, a German philosopher, believed that to overcome international anarchy and achieve perpetual peace, there needed to be collective action (interdependency between states), and a federation of states in which state sovereignty will be left intact (international organizations). However, for this to occur, states must have a democratic government. This later became known as the Kantian Triangle. Kant assumed that states would act in self interested ways and that repeated interactions would eventually lead to an expanding zone of peace for example NATO. Like Kant s theory, the Prisoner s Dilemma is a model that posed that after continued repeated interactions, states would realize that it s in their best interest to cooperate. Economic interdependency, also known as functionalism, proposes that states take cooperative ventures in nonpolitical areas such as the economy and security. This in turn will lead to greater interdependence and eventually, greater peace. Functionalism is a means to achieve peace now, starting with economic interdependence through international organizations such as the European Community. It is also a strategy in which international organizations, including the United Nations, use to promote interdependency and thus, maintain peace. Consequently, functionalism is most successful under a democratic government. Liberals ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 27. Persuasive Speech For Labor Crisis America s Skilled Labor labor crisis has always been overshadowed by other U.S issues. In my opinion this is a very important problem that needs to be resolved. Today I will inform you on the strategies I would take to solve the labor shortage. First off, being that most younger workers are dependent on technology. I think it would be a good idea to use that to an advantage. Many companies have adopted the use of employee devices and enterprise apps to conduct and manage work within the company. Mobile smart phones and tablets are used everyday by millions of people across the world. By developing apps and other technological tools, then a company can be much more relatable to a work s interests. Which will improve a shortage of worker in a company. Make the company more interesting by posting useful content. It can get very tiresome if all a company publishes are job postings. I think a great idea would be to publish company news, updates and share on social media. They could also use other platforms like your company blogs, newsletters or even industry blogs. This increases the visibility of the company and has the potential to reach a greater number of applicants. Basically, just use product updates, new employees and any of your company s latest news as a way to sell your company to job seekers. Give people a sneak peek. Put the profile of new employees on the company website as soon as possible once they have been selected to join the team. It makes the worker feel ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 29. Drug Subdiction And Drug Addiction Drug addiction is a crippling problem in the United States, and has the possibility of affecting every single person. May it be from someone in the upper class, to a single mother who is living in poverty, this form of substance abuse is becoming more and more abundant in recent times. Unfortunately, many people who have never dealt with or looked into substance abuse often blame the individual for what happened. The sociological imagination, on the other hand, says otherwise. According to C Wright Mills sociological imagination, private troubles, such as substance abuse, often have a root in public issues of social structure. Sadly, the societal roots of many issues are not seen by others, causing the individual and their choices to be seen as the cause of their problem. In turn, this view may support a punitive perspective against the person in question. In the case of Brittney May, her drug addiction had started at a relatively young age, and as a result of it, she had ended up in prison. Although she has been released after her first long sentence, she ended up being convicted again, and is currently in prison. Additionally, her prison sentence ended up making her lose custody of her child. Fortunately, her old mother agreed to take care of that child. Growing up in a low income bracket neighborhood, Brittney was already placed in a society which had a number of adverse effects on her. • 30. My Leadership Style Analysis This week I take on Ohio as I learn to grow as a leader. Today a lot of the things we talked about really hit home with me, and I actually cried in a room full of strangers as I told them my story and why I chose to be a leader. But today we talked about resilience. We defined resilience as: The process of adapting well in the face of adversity, trauma, tragedy, threats or significant sources of stress. This definition really spoke to me. I have been facing this day after day ever since April, and today we had a lady talk to us about it for 2 hours, but it felt like it was only seconds. She helped me to realize that I am not alone, that I have other sisters out there that are fighting, if not the same battle, one that is similar to mine. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... To fold up into yourself is basically when you look at people and just say I can t with you right now. You hide away, turn off your phone, turn off all communication with the outside world, and basically just become one with your bed... and maybe a bag of taco bell. With my depression, I am guilty of this a lot. People try to talk to me and then I get in trouble because I get irritated that they won t just leave me alone with myself for a bit... That s often when I storm off. You just hit that point where you ve had enough and you just need to run away from all your responsibilities. This was comforting to hear from someone else, because I was starting to worry that maybe part of my three year old self had held onto parts of my brain. Next is to blame others. You don t want to accept that you have done wrong or that you have messed up, so you start putting the blame on other people. Next, you require total control. In a leadership role, sometimes you feel like you have lost control of a situation, so you try to regain control by taking all of it. You shut people out, and you tell them that you don t need their help. As a bit of a control freak, like I said, I am very guilty of this. Tertiary structure is a result of the bonds between sidechains of amino acids, the R groups. The structure and bonds involve alpha helices, beta pleated sheets, and also regions unique to each protein. Tertiary proteins are held together by four different types of forces; hydrogen bonds, hydrophobic interactions (including Van der Waals interactions), ionic bonding (electrostatic interactions), and disulfide bridges (strong covalent bonds). Hydrogen bonds occur within and between polypeptide chains and the aqueous environment. The model minority is a member of a minority group either based on ethnicity, race, or religion whose members are commonly perceived to achieve a higher level of success than the average population. The success that an individual reaches is typically measured by income, education, low crime rates and high family stability achieved throughout their lives. The stereotype of the model minority is commonly associated with Asian Americans as they are assumed to achieve highly in academics which will thus propel them up the economic ladder. The stereotype of a smart high achieving Asian American student is fueled by other stereotypes such as Asians being good at math and that they all go to college. The intelligence stereotypes created by society are the reason why some individuals feel pressured to succeed and feel as if failure is not as option. If its not the student who feels the pressure, than it is the parent that pushes to child to do well. • 39. Mother s Vs. Father s And Birthing Process Thesis Statement Mother s vs. Father s and birthing process. For a working woman, maternity leave is a standard part of giving birth. Physically, the new mother needs that time to recover from the birthing process, but there is an emotional reason, too. Experts preach over and over that for those first few weeks of a baby s life, it needs the interaction and touch of its mother to help with bonding to start their development on the right track. Shouldn t the father be part of that process as well? Shouldn t the father of the new child be able to take paternity leave from work? I believe they should, not only to bond with the child, but to help the mother with her recovery and to coordinate visitors, appointments and any errands that may be needed. Some people have a stigma that the mother is the one responsible for raising the child from birth. I respectfully disagree. I believe the father should be as much a part of a baby s first weeks as the mother. Why should a father be robbed of the intimate bonding time with his child just because he didn t physically give birth to them? I feel this would help the father take better care of the child when the mother returns to work, especially if the father is home at different times than the mother. Having time at home bonding with their father will help the child recognize him when their mother is not around and put them at ease. Studies have also shown that fathers who are home on paternity leave are more likely to be ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The displacement measured from SAR analysis to be 193m (after dividing with the step size 3) and from the optical subpixel correlation, the displacement is calculated to be 148m (after dividing with the step size 4). The displacement is measured as the length of the landslide. The list of limitations faced in this study is quite large. From data acquisition to analysis, several constraints has been met during this study. First, the SAR image that is freely available that gives the temporal coverage of the landslide in question is Sentinel 1A. This satellite instrument captures SAR image using C band which uses 5 7 cm wavelength and 5.35 GHz frequency (Alsdorf et al., 2007; Potin, 2013). This c band cannot pierce the vegetation canopy to reach ground (Moran et al., 1998). This lead to some decorrelation in the image as the study area is a highly vegetated area. Citizens worldwide noticed North Korea is the only country you can t see street views on google earth. This just makes the argument bigger about North Korea denying that these labor camps exist. After all the evidence and memoirs of North Koreans that have escaped from these labor camps, the real question is should the United States intervene? One of the top solutions is for the United States to intervene and liberate all the North Korean prisoners ( How Did We Get Here? A Timeline of the North Korean Nuclear Threat ).
