Characteristics Paper
Introduction The United States is a land with a diversified culture. The reason for this diversification
of culture is the fact that the country alone is home for people of all cultures. Therefore, the United
States is often referred to as the Melting Pot . Being the land of the free, America is one of those
countries where people from different backgrounds are able to practice their cultures and religion
freely. One such group of people living in the United States is the African Americans that are a
significant proportion of the country s population. This paper is aimed at discussing the history of the

Religion
African Americans live in the moment using recurring yearly religious beliefs to as a foundation of a
religious lifestyle. The cultural interaction for African Americans within this circular time sense
provides an organizing framework for their cultural psychology and has helped developed their
identity in America (Jones 2002).
African Americans began to organize their own religious ceremonial services secretly in the slave
quarters. They would use gestures, code words, and communication not apparent to the Caucasian
people. The believers were summoned to the slave quarters where they open heartedly shared beliefs
with evangelical Christianity, cultural rhythms, and beautiful singing. As time passed, the spirituals,
with strong beliefs of religious deliverance and freedom from slavery, progressed and prospered.
African American preachers believed that God had called them to speak his Word, cultured their
chanted sermons , or cadenced, chanted way of extemporaneous preaching. Part church, part
psychological refuge, and part organizing point for occasional acts of outright rebellion these meetings
provided one of the few ways for enslaved African Americans to express and enact their hopes for a
better future (Nat Turner 1831).
Today African American church leaders appreciate the magnitude of

Abstract
Currently, franchisee is one of the most popular business models in Australia. In 1965, an American
university student formed the SUBWAY, a submarine sandwich restaurant. After 30 years
development, Subway creates a sandwich empire through franchisee model and fast extent to 90
countries with more than 300000 restaurants in global range. Currently, economic crisis is impacted
Australia and deeply bring the negative influence to Australia economic system. The data indicate

External Environment Analysis
There are three external environment components which may impact on restaurant, demographic,
Technological and Economic environment.
Demographic Environment
The purpose of the scanning the social, demographic and culture is to determine the significance of
population changes on the nature of population and customer purchase behaviour. (Reed 2007)
Obviously, population change brings huge impact to product lines and service model. Currently, more
and more new residential immigrate to Australia and Box Hill is traditional Asia area. That is meaning
the customer needs are more various and restaurant should modified the manual to fit various taste and
religion. As we all know, Subway is traditional western fast food provider. The food is developed

samples are random picked, which classified two groups, local peoples and new immigration or

4. The Success Of The Goal
The targets supporting the achievement of the goal can be measured, are indeed being measured but
fail to provide built in incentives or sanctions should these targets not be met or fulfilled. The idea is
to put a stop to deforestation, restore land and water ecosystems, protect the planet s biodiversity and
various species. Key to the success of the goal is the target to significantly increase financial resources
to support conservation, sustainable development and ensure equitable sharing and access to
resources. Although these targets can be measured, the accuracy of the data can be called into question
because government sources are not always the most trustworthy. Some geographical areas of the
world have shown to have skewed the facts ( Spot the Rancher ). The failure of the Kyoto accord and
the Canadian tar sands illuminate the uphill battle the UN faces in attaining their goal. As long as
elected officials choose to favour economic growth and profit over sustainable development and
equality the goal will not be achieved and the targets are irrelevant. The targets are measurable.
Organizations such as the World Resources Institute have been working to create an international
forest watch. With the use of satellites and technology that provides new ways of detecting
deforestation patterns, forests can be far more easily monitored an analyzed. This gives governments
an ability to police their forests and allows them to be alerted when certain areas are in danger

5. The Imf ( International Monetary Fund )
The IMF (International Monetary Fund), also known as the Fund, was conceived at a UN conference
in Bretton Woods, New Hampshire, United States, in July 1944. The 44 countries at that conference
sought to build a framework for economic cooperation to avoid a repetition of the competitive
devaluations that had contributed to the Great Depression of the 1930s
(https://www.imf.org/external/about.htm). Currently, the organization is headquartered in Washington,
D. C. Originally, the IMF was designed to promote economic cooperation internationally and provide
short term loans to member countries for the benefit of trade.
During the 1980 s, many countries were experiencing a crisis of debt. During this time, The IMF has
taken on the role of bailing out countries with loans that have certain conditions attached. These loans
are usually referenced as Structural Adjustment Policies (SAPs). In order for a country to get a loan,
the policies of the IMF must be followed. Therefore, monetary values can be dictated on education,
healthcare, and the environment.
In 2010, the country of Greece experienced one of the worst financial crises in modern history. During
this time, The IMF wanted to be involved with the financial support package that Greece (and other
countries in the Eurozone) would receive. That same year, French President Nikolas Sarkozy stated I
will never allow the IMF in Europe (http://www.reuters.com/investigates/special report/imf greece/).

7. Refraction Lab
When light passes from the air into a different medium, like water, it is refracted. You can see this by
putting a pencil in a cup of water. The pencil appears to bend, but it isn t actually bent. Again, this is
because of refraction. Putting a pencil in a cup of sugar water would also cause refraction, but the
amount of light refracted would be different. This is because of the changes in density.
Refraction is the bending of light as it goes through a medium. Light waves travel very quickly and
can pass through transparent materials fairly easily, but the waves slow down while they are passing
through these materials. The light passing through a transparent material will bend depending on the
index of refraction. For example, when light waves ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
When light passes through two substances of different densities, the light is refracted. That is why
materials in water seem oddly placed or bent. The density of the water is different compared to the air
that the light goes through. The difference in densities also slows down the speed in which the light
rays travel through the medium, which causes the bending effect.
Snell s law is a formula that is used to describe the relationship between the angles of refraction and
incidence when talking about light waves passing through two different mediums. This is also known
as the calculation of what degree the light will bend. The degree to which light bends, or refracts,
depends on the incidence angle entering the second material as well as the speed at which the light
travels through the two materials.
An angle of incidence is the angle at which light enters a translucent or transparent material. This can
also be described as the angle between the ray of light and the normal vector of the surface of the
object it is coming into contact with. The normal vector would be a perpendicular vector from the
surface of an object. The angle of reflection is equal to the angle of incidence. This is because the law
of reflection states that the angle between the normal vector and the reflected ray, which is the angle of
reflection, is the same as the angle of

8. St Brigid Research Paper
St Brigid of Kildare was born in 452 AD. She was a catholic nun who became one of the patron saints
of Ireland. She dedicated her whole life to following Jesus s message; which was to love god, and love
others. She shared this as her own message, through the love and support she gave to others in the
community. Like Jesus she wanted to help the less fortunate and give to those that were in need,
offering them hope and faith. She chose to seek out justice among her community and society,
working around the lives of many. She was inspired by Jesus spirituality, nature and love, that she
wanted to demonstration her appreciation and strength to those who were struggling. For example, she
used her middle class lifestyle to contribute to feeding the poor and nursing those who were injured or
sick. Her childhood was filled with donating her mothers and father s possessions to anyone who
asked (Online, n.d.).
St Brigid impacted all people around her. She inspired greatness to those who needed her compassion
and belief. For her endless time and support, it is suggested that her message transcends time well
beyond her death to the individuals and groups along the years to today. Discussion of her
transcendence will be ruminated throughout this text. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

9. Analyzing The Aesthetics Of Figure Skating
Watching Evgeni Plushenko come to his victory for Russia once again in this Winter Olympics in
Vancouver, I found myself realising why figure skating has always been viewed as a very feminine
sport. They swing their arms dramatically with constant hand motions and exaggerate their facial
expressions. Every single routine is punctuated with these moves. The sparkly and rhinestone covered
costumes often look like they were designed for a children s beauty pageant. Dick Button, a gold
medalist in 1948 and 52, describes viewing them as being trapped in a windmill in the Metropolitan
Opera House costume department. 1 No wonder our society has always viewed figure skating as a
softer sport.2
The expressive nature and emphasis on aesthetics of figure skating is what makes it such a soft sport,
otherwise described as a sport for girls in this case, girly men. I felt like these men were constantly
trying to be graceful without being feminine yet their costumes did not help prove their masculinity
whatsoever. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

happened to design himself. Funny enough, Claude Mailhot, a French commentator even thought that
he might have lost points due to his costume and his body language during his performance in the

Don t rely on the media s research. Although the media will do their own homework don t rely solely
on the results of their research. Make sure to give them your facts. This is especially important if your
topic is controversial as you want them to have the data that supports your position. When you are
pitching it is useful to have as many facts ready to use as possible. If you have a tricky or detailed
topic, present as much information as you can so that the busy, inundated producer or journalist can
grasp your message quickly. The more time you save explaining, the more time you can spend
pitching the benefits of having you as a guest or featured on their pages. 4. There is power in numbers.
What we are talking about here is especially true if you are pitching a controversial topic. If you re
pitching a controversial topic to a radio or TV show, select the guests you want to appear with you.
This gives you more control of the segment and ensures your message will gain acceptance from the
audience. If you do not have suggested guests to pitch to the producer, and they pick it up, you may
just be setting yourself up for an on air ambush, which if you are not prepared, can land you in deep

11. The Importance Of Micrornas
The microRNAs (miRNAs) are single stranded small, endogenous, non coding regulatory RNA with
size varying ~21 to 24 nucleotides. microRNA mediated gene regulation play an important role in the
negative regulation of gene at post transcriptional level by targeting the mRNAs of protein coding
genes by cleavage or repressing protein translation in eukaryotes and viruses (Bartel, 2004).
microRNAs are expressed from their own genes located in the intergenic or intragenic region on the
chromosomes (Lagos Quintana et al., 2001). In plants, most miRNA genes are intergenic and
transcribed individually from their own region, but a few genes are organized into polycistronic
transcription units and co transcribed from single promoter at the end of a ... Show more content on

The functional genomics studies have shown the involvement of plant miRNAs in many
developmental processes of plant (Jones et al., 2006), response to biotic and biotic stresses, hormone
signalling (Frazier et al., 2011, Jagadeeswaran et al., 2009), signal transduction, protein degradation
(Zhou et al., 2010; Zhang et al., 2008), transgene suppression (Allen et al., 2005), disease
development (Johnson et al., 2005), defense against viruses (Bennasser et al., 2004), molecular
mechanisms regulating developmental transitions, such as seed germination, vegetative and
reproductive phase changes, flowering initiation, seed production and root development (Yang et al.,
2011) and nutrient deprivation and heavy metals (Chen et al., 2012).
Many miRNAs have been identified and investigated extensively in plant species with sequenced
genomes and comparative genome analysis from expressed sequence tag (EST), genome survey
sequences (GSS) and nucleotide sequences. miRNAs are evolutionarily conserved in the plant
kingdom from mosses and ferns to angiosperms (Zhang et al., 2006b). Using this attribute,
identification and prediction of miRNA by sequence analysis has advantage over other methods. It has
been suggested that miRNAs predicted by EST analysis can be recovered by high throughput deep
sequencing (Kwak et ai., 2009).

Schools across the nation are eliminating programs that enhance creativity or even discussions about
the current world events. They all have an identical curriculum and are set up to proceed one type of
mind that processes information in one way. Thus, high stakes testing pressures students to improve
their performance. Lisa Collier states, ... So many Michigan students stayed home when their
assessment tests were given last year that several high schools were threatened with loss of
accreditation. In Illinois, 200 students expressed their scorn for the state s exam by showing up and
deliberately giving the wrong answers. Critics feel the students are being turned off to learning
because they re being force fed the dry facts and figures needed to excel on high stakes tests... The

13. Philip The Fortunate Was A Very Good French King
Philip VI the Fortunate

10th History

Introduction
I think Philip the Fortunate was a very good French King. He was known for being the first French
king of the Valois dynasty. His reign saw the beginning of the Hundred Years War and the arrival of
the Black Death.
Body
In May of 1328, Philip of Valois became King Philip VI of France. In August of that year, the count of
Flanders appealed to Philip for help in putting down a revolt. The king responded by sending his
knights to slaughter thousands at the Battle of Cassel. Not long after that, Robert of Artois, who had
helped Philip get the crown, claimed the countship of Artois; but a royal candidate did so, as well.
Philip instituted judicial proceedings against Robert, turning his one time supporter into a bitter
enemy.
It wasn t until 1334 that trouble began with England. Edward III, who didn t particularly like paying
homage to Philip for his holdings in France, decided to flout Philip s interpretation of Salic Law and
lay claim to the French crown through his mother s line. (Edward was most likely spurred on in his
animosity toward Philip by Robert of Artois.) In 1337 Edward landed on French soil, and what would
later be known as Hundred Years War began.
In order to wage war Philip had to raise taxes, and in order to raise taxes he had to make concessions
to the nobility, the clergy, and the bourgeoisie. This resulted in the rise of the estates and the beginning
of a reform movement in

16. The Height Of Colonialism Between The 18th And 20th Century
During the height of colonialism between the 17th and 20th century, almost all of Asia was at one
point either directly taken as a colonial possession, or was strongly influenced politically and
economically by a colonial power. The exception to this was Siam (now Thailand) which has
remained largely independent despite colonial pressure on all its borders (with the exception of the
concession of what is now Laos and Burma). For the sake of brevity and consistency, this essay will
only be dealing with events from between the early 19th century to the beginning of the 20th century.
During this period, the biggest threats to Siamese independence were the British to the west, and the
French to the east. As seen by the map below, by 1901, British influence (indicated by the red) had
extended to encompass the north and west of Siam (indicated by the bottom right green), while French
influence (indicated by the blue) covered the east of Siam. As Siam was surrounded by either French
or British colonies, it meant that other Western colonial powers would need to contest French or
British territories before it would be able to consider colonising Siam. Figure 1 part of a larger map of

BMW: The 7 Series Project (A)
As he accelerated past the security gates of BMW s Research and Engineering Center, Carl Peter
Forster, director of Prototype and Pilot Manufacturing, thought about the 7 series project meeting. It
was June 12, 1991, exactly two years, eight months, and five days until the scheduled start of
production of the completely redesigned 7 series luxury sedan. The project, code named E 99, was

Through success on the race track and the introduction of several trend setting sporty roadsters from
the 1930s to the 1950s, BMW built a reputation for high performance engineering.
Despite these successes, BMW remained a relatively small specialist, more admired for its
engineering and technical prowess than its commercial success. In 1959, BMW was so weak
financially that it was nearly bought out by its much larger rival, Daimler Benz. Instead, BMW was
rescued by a $1 million investment from the Quandt family, who since that time was the majority
shareholder. In 1966, with its larger, more sophisticated 02 series, BMW created a new automobile
market segment that combined the high performance engineering of sporty roadsters with the size,
styling, and comfort of the European luxury sedan. This combination set BMW apart from its
competitors and was largely responsible for the company s move into the world league of car
companies in the 1970s.
From 1970 to 1990, sales volume (in DM) grew by a factor of 15, car production increased from
160,000 units per year to slightly over 500,000 units/year, and the work force trebled. Since 1959,
BMW earned a profit every year; between 1980 and 1990, return on shareholders equity annually
averaged 21%, and 1990 profits were expected to reach a record DM 700 million (Exhibit 2).

QUALITY CONTROL OF CAR EMISSION EFFICIENCY
1. Introduction
Energy efficiency of vehicles have become one of the most fundamental issue for modern trade,
business life and environment. Even though the zero emission systems hast still progress, it is
plausible to enlarge the fuel efficient vehicles with application of quality assurance practices. The idea
behind this is particularly true for the companies which is related to transportation, where even small
difference can save considerable amount of money.
Moreover, in the fuel economy website, it is mentioned that the fuel economy predicts the fuel
economy tags and to calculate a producer s corporate average fuel economy (CAFE) is received from
car when the testing is done at EPA s National Vehicle and Fuel Emissions Laboratory in Ann Arbor
which is in Michigan, and by whole car producers who sent their own data to EPA. Every year, EPA
supplies car efficiency data to the Internal Revenue Service (IRS), the Department of Transportation
(DOT) and the Department of Energy (DOE) with this way they can manage their car efficiency which
is associated with programs. (http://www.fueleconomy.gov). Many companies have many instructions
in order to inform the costumers about fuel efficiency. However, on the other hand, none of these
companies are certain on a particular car. That causes less motivation on drivers because they

Setting is the least important puzzle piece of feminism, but it does educate the viewers more about
what it was like during The Joy Luck Club. As stated beforehand, The Joy Luck Club took place in the
1980s. Most people assume sexism and discrimination has long died down into the dirt, but it still
violently sprouted through the ground with determination instead of withering away. Chinese people
were way more strict and cruel when it came to discipline children or being in a marriage. Children,
shoved around ruthlessly by mothers, and wives; still experiencing mistreatment by their sorry
excuses of a husband. Under those circumstances, Amy Tan portrays an accurate representation of
what it was back in the 1900s for women of Chinese descent. Back when the main characters were
teenagers, they did not have any rights to themselves. An incident that explains this more in detail was
Lindo s first husband. Lindo, forced at a young age to move away from her beloved mother Practically
insulted, she was required to marry a snobby, ill mannered little boy named Huang Tyan yu. From the
beginning Lindo thought as if she didn t even belong in her family anymore, hence this example,
Because I was promised to the Huangs son for marriage, my own family began treating me as if I

Rokeach (1960) asserts that Belief Congruence Theory can be applied when whether there is a group
of people is having similar beliefs that will result in social harmony or a group of people that is having
different beliefs which conversely will bring to disharmony. In fact, this theory is one of the theories
of Prejudice. Belief is more important than ethnic or racial membership as a determinant of social

The disputes of SCS (South China s Sea) are a perpetual issue on the conflicting licit claim for
territorial land and who has the authority to sovereign it. The dispute arises, since SCS contains

29. Cultural Trends In Fashion
Trends in the fashion world are greatly influenced by social cultural changes. Social change deals with
any big change over time in behavior patterns and in cultural values. Fashion and clothing is more
than just what we wear but the way we choose to live our lives which relates back to culture. There are
three key sources in trends for fashion, high culture, pop culture, and low culture. High culture is
mainly about the visual kinds of art. Visual arts can range anywhere from paintings to architecture and
design. A designer is able to take note on a piece of art that inspires him or her to incorporate into their
clothing designs. Pop culture is highly influenced by celebrities who spend most of their everyday
lives in the mainstream. Pop culture influences the way we look. For example, TV shows that dress
the cast very fashionably such as the show, that was popular in the 80 s Dynasty to the 90 s into the
year 2004 the show Sex in the City, everyone wanted to dress like the protagonist in those popular TV
series. Subculture is local street movements such as hip hop and graffiti. Subculture is mainly seen in
surf and skateboard culture from the 70 s up until today.

an impact on the poems we write. Poetry is an art form in which human language is used for its
aesthetic qualities. Poems are often written based on something a poem has dealt with or has

Will Keith Kellogg come into the world on April 7,1860 in Battle Creek Michigan. John and Ann
Kellogg believed that hard work and being kind to people was the best way of life. When Willie was
old enough to walk, he helped his mother work in the garden and do the laundry. At the age of 7 Willie
started to work at his father s broom company in the afternoons and weekends. His parents thought
that with the money he earned Will should buy his own clothes. During the day he went to school.
Will was shy and did not have many friends. His teachers thought he was dumb but really he could not
see the blackboard because he needed glasses, which he later got when he was 13. His parents did not
care much about his grades as long as he was working hard and doing his best.
At the age of 13 Will was a tall skinny young man. He quit school and became a full time brooms
salesmen for his father s company. He enjoyed traveling by train and was fascinated by this new way
of traveling. In 1878, George King asked Will to come and work as a salesman for his broom company
