Best Buy in Crisis
Introduction
At the end of fiscal 2012, Best Buy found itself in an increasingly challenging situation. Although it
could still claim to be the world s largest consumer electronics retailer with $50.7 billion in revenues,
growth for the year, at 0.9% was anemic. Meanwhile, Amazon s sales in Best Buy s categories were
growing at more than 50% p.a. and its total sales, at $48 billion, were approaching those of Best Buy.
Operating profits were also disappointing having dropped 54% to $1.1 billion and net income fell into
the red at $1.2 billion. The fiscal 2012 year end stock price fell to $24.70, down from a high of $53.86
in 2006. In five years, Best Buy ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In 1988, personal computers were added to the product line. Four years into the superstore strategy,
Highland, the industry number two, lowered its prices in Minneapolis, Best Buy s heartland, selling at
10% above cost. Best Buy margins fell sharply. In search of a new approach, Best Buy conducted
consumer research and discovered the customers had a poor image of superstores. They saw shopping
as a stressful experience and felt pressured by salespeople into buying expensive items. Customers
wanted an enjoyable shopping experience and a no pressure selling environment.
Concept II: 1989 1994
In response to this consumer research, Best Buy implemented a ground breaking grab and go store
format in 1989 called Concept II. Backroom space in stores was turned into sales space and the
inventory was put out on display with basic information labels so that customers could see what was
in stock and understand the product without explanations from sales staff. Salaried product specialists
replaced commissioned sales staff and, rather than pushing products on customers, patiently waited in
department centers for customers who sought help. The format proved very popular, and by fiscal
1994, Best Buy operated 151 stores generating $3.0 billion in revenue and $77 million in operating
profits. In the process, Best Buy entered Chicago and Texas, Highlands core territories, and the
company went bankrupt.

Nt1310 Unit 2 Learning Management Systems
Investigate learning management software packages that are available through application service
providers. Using the World Wide Web, identify at least two potential sources of such software. What
are the key functions, requirements, pros and cons? While doing my research, the two Learning
Management Systems (LMS) that I selected were Moodle and Edmodo.
Moodle
Functions:
Moodle is a modular system based on plugins. They use a variety of plugins for that will satisfy any
specific activity. One of their best tool is the full peer assessment process, which can provide accurate
information about hundreds of students instantly, helping in the time saving process. Add some
tracking and reports and the ability to add more plugins ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
They are focusing in utilizing a different set of rules that only technology can offer it to empower
teachers and students.
Pros:
Mobile apps available
Set up is easy and fast
The system will determine the training program immediately
Free support
The majority of the processes and instruction are delivered via video
Data collection can be tracked historically with specific teams details
Cons:
This system will require a big storage device
Create a request for proposal (RFP) to which interested vendors and consultants could respond
Purpose:
The main purpose is basically to help our students and faculty to develop and enhance their
management skill by acquiring a learning management software. By doing this, the students and
faculty can accurately identify the areas of improvement in their management process and find
solutions and guidance on how to correct them.
In our last 2 evaluations, the evaluators discovered missing or broken management processes in
several of our programs. These discrepancies need to be correct to avoid future unwanted results and
to not compromise our ability to help our

Why a Primary School Requires a Duty of Care to Protect...
1 Introduction: The Department of Education in Western Australia follows government policy to
ensure all those who are of school age attend school. There is a general duty of care related to
common law that the teacher has to do all that is reasonable to ensure the health, safety and welfare of
all those who are associated through the teacher/student relationship during the school day, whilst on
the school grounds or during school activities/excursions. The purpose of this report is to examine the
need and application of the duty of care policy within a primary school environment, using three
different scenarios duty of care will be explored. 2 Discussion: The policy Why write the policy?

The Concept Of Transfer
by calculating the cost, instead, it determines the optimality using the NC [12]. The NC allows a
mission planner to analyze whether a transfer is optimum or non optimum by evaluating the primer
vector pro le along the transfer trajectory and see if it satisfy the NC. Transfer trajectory refers to the
trajectory of the spacecraft from orbit around the departure planet to the orbit of around the
destination.
In case of non optimum trajectory, one can alter the trajectory by modifying the orbital velocity vector
as such to satisfy the NC of optimality [13]. The modi cation of the velocity vector is achieved
through implementation of DSM. A linear method to optimize a transfer based on the gradient of the
cost functional was rst proposed by ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Solving primer vector equation using state transition matrix is the most common approach in the
trajectory optimization. Since this approach relies on the numerical integration of the STM and the
primer vector, the computation time becomes a disadvantage. With the rapid advancement in computer
technology, the issue of computation time is not as significant as in the past. However, the numerical
approach using STM did not give an insight to the optimization problem. In the paper by Iorfida, it is
presented how the analytical solution to the out of plane case can be explored to nd the influence of
the transfer orbit parameters to the optimality.
There are numerous works which have been conducted to derive the analytical solution to the primer
vector equation. Russel, in his paper, [25] presented an analytical solution to the primer vector
equation for the low thrust transfer case. His method is based on the analytical derivation of the state
transition matrix. Other work by Huang [26] also studied a low thrust transfer and proposed an
analytical solution for circular case transfer.
For an impulsive transfer case, there are several works, which focused on finding an ana lytical
solution to the primer vector equation. In 1669, Prussing published his work on the analytical solution
of the out of plane component circular rendezvous problem [27]. In 1991, Carter published his studies
of the xed time linearised impulsive rendezvous

Protestantism In Nineteenth-Century America
Nineteenth century America contained a baffling cluster of Protestant factions and categories, with
distinctive teachings, practices, and hierarchical structures. However, by the 1830s these bodies had a
profound zealous accentuation in like manner. Protestantism has constantly contained a critical
outreaching strain, yet it was in the nineteenth century that a specific style of zeal turned into the
overwhelming type of otherworldly expression. What most importantly else portrayed this zeal was its
dynamism, the pervasive feeling of lobbyist vitality it discharged. As Charles Grandison Finney, the
main outreaching of mid nineteenth century America, put it: religion is the work of man, it is
something for man to do. This fervent activism included a critical doctrinal move far from the
predominately Calvinist introduction that had portrayed a lot of eighteenth century American
Christianity.

Dr. Samantha Prigge Pienaar
A Critical discussion on the origins, motivations, practices and development of Antonin Artaud s
theories:
Born in 1896 and although died, insane and in poverty in 1948, Artaud lived an influential life. All his
attempts to create a theatre of magic, of beauty and power that would change the hearts of people,
ended in failure. He was the father of the Theatre of Cruelty. Although his views and practices are
unsupported in his lifetime, since his death, Artaud s extraordinary and imaginative ideas have been a
major influence in the world of theatre. It has given us an entirely new way of perceiving reality and

Artaud first proposed the idea in his book, The Theatre and It s Double. For Artaud, theatre does not
merely refer to a staged performance before a passive audience. The theatre is a practice, which wakes

with the fiery magnetism of its images and acts upon us like spiritual therapeutics whose touch can

The Reflection Of The Robots
In 1948 a sci fi movie is released in theaters everywhere, the movie s premise is that robots has
dominated the human race and inserted their dominance on rest of the world. That story sounds not
real and couldn t be a future for today s society. However, even though evil robots are not real
technology taking control of the world is not so far fetch as the movies presents. In the article The
Robot Invasion by Charlie Gillis the authors presents the growing reality of robots becoming
functional tools or gadgets for people. The article also touches on a controversial topic of robots
removing ordinary workers from their jobs.Which could cause problems for many individuals whom
feed or survive in generally because of those jobs. The author uses three writing techniques to convey
strengthen his opinion to the audience, which includes an informative tone, credible facts, and multiple
bias source inclusion.
The author s tone is very much informative, to which makes every sentence read like a text from an
educational textbook. As example in paragraph (10) that describes Baxter a factory working robot, as
the paragraph goes in simple details on Baxter s functions and appearance. This brief overview gives
the reader great easy digestible information on the current factor robots without sounding to
confusing. The informative tone continues on paragraph (6) as the section focus on robot researcher

Persuasive Essay On Open School Letter
All the measures that are mentioned in the textbook are important. However, there a few of these
measures that are not as important compared to the others listed. One of these measures involve the
school mail.
According to the textbook, students should not be opening the mail and that letter opening should be
limited to a staff individual. The reasoning behind the measure is understandable; 2001 terrorists sent
powdered anthrax through the mail. Nevertheless, why would students have access to school mail?
School mail is usually delivered to the front desk, bypassing student s hands. There is no reason why a
student should be opening school mail.
Additionally, Trumps states that schools should ...review procedures for handling suspicious items
such as envelopes with power substances that may be found in hallways, stairwell, restroom and other
areas of the school... (Trump, 2011, p. 135). Instead of focusing on envelopes, why not focus on
suspicious packages. Students are more likely to pick up a package off the ground than an envelope.
Reviewing things that are more credible and likely would be better than having everyone become
paranoid of a letter on the ground. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Government Restriction Of Speech In The United States
In general, the government, from local to federal, may not jail or fine citizens or organizations for
what they say or write. There are special circumstances however, where the government has their own
right to censor you. In times of war, the government has not been as open with free speech, as there
are high tensions and mass panic throughout the country. Until 1919, you could be fined for speaking
against the military draft or dismantling the government. The Supreme Court has interpreted speech
and press to include not only speaking and writing, but also television, radio, using the Internet, and
symbolic expression. Restricting speech because of the content is generally illegal, because a main
principle in democracy is that the government should not be allowed to decide what information the
people are allowed to hear or read. The government can censor certain types of speech such as
defamation, true threats, fighting words, profuse obscenities, child pornography, and commercial
advertising. Bigotry, blasphemy, and violence are still protected by the First Amendment. Another way
the government can restrict speech is if the speaker is in a certain relationship with the government,
such as government employees or teachers in public schools. The government can also restrict content
neutral speech if it gets ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Corning Glass Work Case Study
CORNINGS GLASS WORKS CASE STUDY
1. Enumerate the conditions why Corning had to undergo the series of structural changes.
Following the international growth and expansion of Corning, the following problems were being
faced in the organization s structure and management processes:
i) With the international expansion of CGW, the company was becoming too big and complex to be
managed by its current structure. Hence a need was felt to create the international arm as a separate
legal entity and hence Corning International Corporation (CIC) was born.
ii) CIC was created as a subsidiary to CGW to emphasize the growing importance of Corning s
overseas business. The management felt that the creation of CIC as a ... Show more content on

vii) Furthermore, the capital allocation process also changed following the majority shareholding in
foreign subsidiaries. Before the consolidation, the decision process for capital allocation was done
primarily by the local managers of the foreign affiliate, who would then go out and raise the capital on
their own.
However, after these subsidiaries were acquired by Corning, they were required to submit a formal
capital appropriation request prepared in English. The subsidiary general manager then had to chase it
to the end through a series of corporate decision making filters. This allocation system had other major
implications on the relationship between the technical personnel on each side. Whereas before, the
technical managers from the parent company provided assistance to subsidiaries on projects, the
former now became a part of the judge and jury system to decide on the capital allocation to these
subsidiaries. As a result, the technical managers tended to become more conservative with their advice
and assistance to the subsidiaries. viii) Due to the incoherency of its area based organization structure,
CIC found itself grappling with the global marketing coordination necessary for some businesses.
There was no one who was responsible for coordinating between different foreign subsidiaries on
global actions like price, product, sourcing etc. The needs of global product development were not
being communicated to the R amp;D

The Impacts Of Osama Bin Laden
III. These are the impacts of Bin Laden s death.
The death of Osama bin Laden by American forces signifies a symbolic victory on the war on terror
movement. Bin Laden is the first leader and forefather of Al Qaeda terrorist movement that is based
on extreme Islamic beliefs to execute political and religious purposes. Many Americans applauded as
justice was served to the man who planned the attacks of 9/11, which slayed thousands of innocent
Americans almost fifteen years ago. Many people decided to celebrate the declaration of Osama bin
Laden s death by waving American flags and singing God Bless America as the news coverage of his
killing appeared throughout the media.
However, this celebration caused skirmish between those who thought it was right to celebrate a
murder, and those who believed in exultation at the end of the war. In the article Why We Celebrate a
Killing , the author exposed his ideas of why it was constructive to rejoice Osama bin Laden s death as
it united a diverse population, allowed for closure to those affected and increased pride in the
American government. He also touched upon a few reasons ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Being A Registered Nurse Essay
People around the world would not be cared for, educated, and have emotional support during their
injuries and their family member s injuries, if it was not for Registered Nurses. Registered Nurses
need to genuinely have people skills in order to care for patients and their families. Registered Nurses
need to educate people on health care and how to take care of themselves during injuries. The amount
of RN s has been growing at a percentage of 19%, which is faster than average ( Registered Nurses:
Occupational Outlook Handbook ). This is excellent because there are more Registered Nurses,
therefore, there are more patients being cared for. Being a Registered Nurse requires an associates
degree, specific qualities such as people skills and sympathy, and knowledge about medical care to be
able to do the duties. To be a Registered Nurse, it is recommended to have an associates degree,
however, some people achieve bachelors degrees. Both degrees must be in nursing. Some people

Differences Between The North And The South In The 1800s
During the early 19th century, especially before the American Revolution and after the War of 1812,
American society has changed greatly. The North and the South followed different paths, gradually
developing into two distinct and very different regions. And in the 1800s, the disparities between the
two regions because of the difference in economic, social and political structure, continued to widen
leading up to the Civil War that raged across the nation from 1861 to 1865 which concluded the
decades of diverse ideas and culture between the two regions. The South s economic were known

Reflection Paper On Sister Lee
Hector: I will tell you a story about my awfully awesome sister, Lee. Understand that the information I
will say come from various sources due to lost memories. All that will explain why my sister Lee, is
awfully amazing.
First, have you ever wonder what homemade French fries taste like? Well, for me it tastes like a
memory that scar my taste buds forever. It all began when Lee was fifteen years old. She thought she
was an amazing cook. She was learning how to cook rice, beans, chicken and mixing food together to
see what science experiment will come out. Honestly, it all tasted somewhat... bad. But I still had hope
that she will learn how to cook and that it tastes... well... good. But I should have listen to my gut
feeling, which was DON T EAT IT!
One day, my sister told me, Hey Hector, do you want to eat something? This was a test, a test that she
will use against me if I answer wrong. So, I relied, What do you want to eat? I knew this would at
least make her think what she wants to eat and not what I want, so whatever she says, I ll just say, no
thank you and I would be safe. But she said, I want chicken nuggets and French fries. Yikes! I said to
myself, I really love chicken nuggets and French fries, how could I reject that offer. Then again, how
could anyone mess up fried food. Right? Wrong! This is the day that I will remember for the rest of
my life. And every time I eat homemade fries, I would end up throwing up.
My sister looked inside the fryer and said, Ma, is the oil good or bad? My mom replied with a
confused face, Good, why? She replied, Oh, nothing, just wondering. My mom left to continue
cleaning. I noticed my sister picking things out of the fryer. I honestly didn t know what she was
doing. She turned on the fryer and started to put the chicken nuggets. She waited and checked every
minute to make sure the nuggets don t overcook. My mom came into the kitchen because she smelled
something cooking. She looked at Lee and said, Aww, you going to cook for me too? Lee looked so
happy and said, Of course but let me feed Hector first because he must be hungry. Honestly, I was. I

The Mesozoic Era
Introduction
The Mesozoic Era began around 250 million years ago and ended 65 million years ago. It is divided
into three different periods, The Triassic, The Jurassic and The Cretaceous. In the Mesozoic Era Earth
was extraordinaly different from what it is now. The climate was humid and tropical, the sea levels
were constantly changing and even the shape of the Earth s continents were different (Benson et al,
2010). The land was dominant by the dinosaurs but the oceans were populated by more rich and
diverse marine reptiles. There were more than a dozen different groups of marine reptiles in the
Mesozoic era, these groups contained pelagic and coastal predators and coastal herbivores. The three

During the Late Triassic period they reached their highest diversity, they became more advanced and
specalized, making them one of the top Marine predators. Ichthyosaurs over time evolved to have
streamlined, fish shaped bodies and large heads. They also evolved to have thicker bodies and a
thicker backbone which meant they swam more with a convergent motion (Callway, 1997). They had
the largest eyeballs (up to 264mm in diameter), of all vertebrates which were supported by a ring of
sclerotic bones, these eyes were adapted to help them find prey in low light environments (Motani,
2009). Ichthyosaurus also had large ear bones, scientists believe this was an adaptation that allowed
them to locate their prey by listening for their arrival through the water . This adapation was also a
useful way for them to listen for predators that may be approaching (Fisher et al, 2016). The most
distinguishable feature of their body plan was the presence of the caudal fin and the dorsal fin which
was formed of stiff tissue, not bone. The first whole fossil of an Ichytosaur was discovered 200 years

found the skull of an Ichthyosaur in 1811 between the cliffs at Lyme Regis and Charmouth but failed

Same Sex Marriages Have Different Laws
Same sex marriages have different laws that pertain to different countries. For example, in Canada,
same sex marriage is legal however in certain states in the US, it is prohibited. Instead of focusing on
the legality of same sex marriage, this paper will focus on the emotional and social development of
children in lesbian mother families and the quality of the relationship between the mother and the
child. It will also focus on the social and academic effects same sex couples have on children. Same
sex relationships do not cause a child to question their sexual identity nor does the quality of the
relationship between the mothers an child from a same sex relationship differ from children from a
heterosexual family. Many argue that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
471). The children were not told which sex to choose for the doll that represented the second parent,
so that they could depict their own family structure (Perry et al., 2004, pg. 471). Once this process was
complete, the experimenter would tell the children a story and then ask them to tell them what
happens next (Perry et al., 2004, pg. 471). Based on the findings, narrative play techniques tell us that
children from lesbian mother families represented their mothers as equally positive parents to
heterosexual families (Perry et al., 2004, pg. 474). They also showed their mothers to have similar
levels of discipline (Perry et al., 2004, pg. 474). Also through the use of play narratives, children from
lesbian mother families showed no more negative emotion themes as children from heterosexual
families (Perry et al., 2004, pg. 474). The more negative emotion within a family, the higher amount
of behavior problems exists within the child (Perry et al., 2004, pg. 476). Based on the data from the
study, children from lesbian mother families did not have more negative emotion themes in their
stories compared to heterosexual parents (Perry et al., 2004, pg. 476). This suggests that children
being raised in a lesbian mother family do not experience negative psychological or emotional
consequences. They also do not suffer in terms of the quality of the relationship between the mother
and the child. It is also assumed that

Richard Wright s Black Boy Today
Richard Wright was born after the Civil War but before the Civil Right Era. If he were writing an
autobiography titled Black Boy today (2016) about a black boy growing up in the United States, he
would write about racial profiling against African Americans, the wide education gap between black
and white, and the unequal job opportunity for African American.
Wright would examine racial profiling if he was to write Black Boy today. Racial profiling is a very
serious issue in the society today. Many African American were being target, and in some case
murdered by law enforcement official because of their race. On August 9, 2014, a white police officer
named Darren Wilson shoot an unarmed black teenager named Michael Brown multiple time in
Ferguson, Mo. According to news article From Ferguson to Charleston and Beyond, Anguish about
Race Keep Building , Even though there was a video tape showing that the black teenager was
unarmed, the county grand jury still decided not to indict the police office because they believed the
old assumption that African Americans are more likely to be criminals. Grand juries have tended to
give the benefit of the doubt to police officers. National polls revealed deep divisions in how whites
and blacks viewed the facts in each case. Whites were more likely to believe officers accounts
justifying the use of force. Blacks tended to see deeper forces at work: longstanding police bias
against black men and a presumption that they are criminals .

Obsessive Compulsive Disorder Paper
Symptoms of Obsessive Compulsive Disorder Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD) is
characterized by obsessions or compulsions . ( Kring, Johnson, Davison, Neal 2014) The obsession
individuals with OCD experiences are excessive and it affects individuals with functioning normally
in their everyday life. According to Kring et al., (2014 ) obsessions are intrusive and recurring
thoughts, images, or impulses that are persistent and uncontrollable and often appear irrational to the
person experiencing them. Compulsions are when someone has to do the same repetitive behavior in

OCD is a brain disorder that may be caused by incorrect information processing. The three areas in the
brain that are looked at are the Orbitofrontal cortex ,which is located in the prefrontal cortex above the
eye, the caudate nucleus located near the basal ganglia, and the anterior cingulate cortex located in the
front of the corpus callosum. Kring et al., (2014 ) states, the activity in these three places increase
when people with OCD are shown objects that provoke symptoms. Other factors such as genetic,
behavioral, environmental, and cognitive factors can trigger the disorder in an individual . It is not
known which specific gene is inherited, but if a family member has OCD, their is a chance a child can
have it. Children who have family members with OCD have a greater chance of developing OCD
early in life . (psychguides.com) One might have been conditioned as a young child to fear or become
obsess by learning from ones parent, which is the behavioral factor . The environmental factor can be
caused because of a traumatic experience such as getting an illness like the flu. This type of traumatic
experience can trigger OCD in a person in order to prevent from getting the illness again. The
cognitive factor can cause individuals not knowing when to stop their obsessive thoughts and
behaviors. According to Kring et al., (2014), people with OCD suffer in having a deficit in knowing
when to stop their thoughts and behavior. They fail to gain the internal sense of completion , which it

Grindhouse Themes
When talking about Quentin Tarantino Grindhouse isn t the first film that comes to mind. This tends to
be the case since it was a double feature style film that was co directed with Robert Rodriguez. The
film Grindhouse is actually a double feature film that puts Rodriquez s Planet Terror and Tarantino s
Death Proof together.Caetlin Benson Allott looks at the films and focuses on the cultural studies
aspect of the films, analyzing the culture of grindhouse theaters and exploitations films. Grindhouse is
an overlooked film that pays homage to 1970 s exploitation films and as Caetlin Benson Allott s

Caetlin Benson Allott s perspective on the subject is a notable example of how the Grindhouse double
feature attempts to show a younger audience the concept of grindhouse films. This typically can t be
shown because of the media that is currently accessible. Film has become less of a theatrical release,
an act of theatre, and has become a solo venture. This solo venture show where the viewer has
changed along with the entire media of film. This is summed up when Caetlin Benson Allott says
Although Death Proof in it s full and independent form may be Tarantino s most charismatic cultural
recycling program to date, the Death Proof one saw in Grindhouse has been superseded by its
extended dvd version(Allott). Caetlin Benson Allott points out how the feel and sense that the movie
tries to emulate can no longer be obtained, or viewed because of the current age of media and the role
of the economic cycle plays into the current age of film. Since modern films make most of their
money through DVD and movie sales after a film s theatrical release the idea behind exploitation
movies has been perverted further into a direction that illustrates the death of the theatrical nature of

The Invention Of Thomas Edison Essay
Imagine a world where ideas and inventions are stolen off each other with no legal consequences.
Imagine a world where Samsung wasn t sued by Apple because legally, there is no penalty for stealing
designs. Imagine a world where Alexander Graham Bell or Thomas Edison wasn t famous for their
inventions because someone else had stolen their ideas and created the inventions publicly first. This
is what the world would have been like without the use of patents. Patents ensure that no idea is
stolen, sold, or replicated without the appropriate permission. Every inventor has ad their fair share of
troubling experiences with patents. However, an inventor that did not allow his dilemmas with patents
stop him from achieving great things is Thomas Edison. Due to the patent process, Edison was able to
succeed at a young age, own numerous inventions, competed other inventors patents, and inspired
others to compete with his inventions to further improve technology.
Thomas Edison was born on February 11, 1847 to a middle class family in Milan, Ohio. His interest in
gaining knowledge sprouted from a young age. At the mere age of twelve, he had expanded his
reading from The History of the Rise and Fall of the Roman Empire to various works in practical
chemistry. This intelligence and interest later motivated Edison into creating numerous inventions
throughout his life time. At the young age of 16 Edison had built his own telegraph, which had already

Context Of Public Administration
Public administration and its role within the context of U.S. democracy and politics is complicated due
to the division amongst Americans and power held by political parties. The main objective of public
administration is to serve the people and protect individual freedoms from big government. However,
American citizens make it difficult to fulfill this objective by voicing their opinions on how they want
to be served and how the government should be run. The division amongst Americans has been an
integrated part of our government since its inception.
In the late 18th century, the Founding Fathers were divided over their opinions of what the size and
how much power the national government should have. The Constitution was formed over disputes
and disagreements which is evident in the publication of the Federalist Papers. The Federalist Papers
exposed the heavily debated battle for the approval of the Constitution. (Box, 2014) The battle to get
the Constitution ratified was almost lost due to different opinions on how the government should be
run. The ratification of the Constitution is an integrated part of our government s history that shows
the complexity and complication of public administration.
Kraft Furlong (2018) speak of Americans being ideologically conservative but liberal in practice to
government service. (p. 40). Americans are conflicted about what type of government they want. They
want to maintain their individual liberties and minimize the power of the

astonishment; and I could scare help expressing my surprise that the young gentlemen should suffer

Equiano was treated respectfully by his mistress and her family. He ate with them at mealtime, also

Investigating The Specific Surface Of Clay And The Key...
Essay on Summary of two papers published to measure the specific surface of clay and the key
procedures involved.
Paper 1: Specific Surface: Determination and relevance
Authors: J. C. Santamarina, K. A. Klein, Y. H. Wang and E. Prencke
According to this paper, there are two methods used to determine the specific surface of clays:
1. Gas Adsorption (Dry conditions).
2. Absorption of molecules from solution onto a solid surface (Aqueous suspensions).
In addition to these, specific surface can also be calculated using known thermo dynamic properties,
microscopy, diffusiveness of X Rays, etc. But the paper focusses on the two methods mentioned
earlier.

Procedure is given by Kandhal and Parker (1998).
i. Preparation of MB solution. ii. Preparation of soil suspension. iii. Then after MB is added to the soil
suspension. iv. Whenever we add MB, the soil suspension is mixed and a drop is removed from
suspension.
v. End Point is said to be reached, when the unabsorbed MB forms a permanent blue halo around soil
aggregate spot. vi. Determination of specific surface is done from the amount of MB required to reach
the end point.
where N is no. of MB increments, Av is the Avogadro s number, AMB is area covered by one MB
molecule.
2. Titration:
The process of evaluating the absorbed MB used can be improved and made more precise by using
titration.
The titration curve is used to determine more accurate value of MB absorbed.
Procedure:
i. Mixing of oven dry specimen with deionized water. ii. This suspension is the =n continuously
mixed. iii. 5mL is removed from this suspension and placed in a test tube. This is the centrifuged. iv.
The remnant concentration of Mb is noted. (Spectrophotometer is used).
v. More Mb solution is then added. Repetition of previous steps. vi. A graph is plotted with Amount of
MB added v/s amount of absorbed MB. vii. At optimum point, the specific surface is computed from
amount of MB absorbed.

Disparity and Discrimination Essay example
Disparity and Discrimination
According to Webster s Dictionary, the proper definition for discrimination is:
1 a : the act of discriminating b : the process by which two stimuli differing in some aspect are
responded to differently
2 : the quality or power of finely distinguishing
3 a : the act, practice, or an instance of discriminating categorically rather than individually b :
prejudiced or prejudicial outlook, action, or treatment (Webster s dictionary).

In the prison population, you see how discrimination can affect everyday life in the facility. You have
different groups within the prison and each one of them discriminating against the other. You may
have the skinheads in one corner, the Mexicans in another, the hardcore African Americans, and then
the Asians, all in their group and each one of them hating on each other. You can also see this outside
of the prison walls, but the majority of Americans do not share those kinds of views.
The United States has made progress in the legal system to try and stop discrimination. For instance,
we have laws protecting people against discrimination. For example, you cannot be fired from a job
just because of you skin color or your disability, and they have set up hate crime laws especially for
crimes dealing with elements of discrimination. Although, the fight we are having now is the
discrimination against homosexuals and lesbians. Our society has yet to conform or accept this kind of
lifestyle, therefore; discrimination is still very prevalent when it comes to dealing with the homosexual
and lesbian community.

Bredeson Case Study
Heading into the 2017 season, the offensive line might be the biggest question mark for the
Wolverines. Starters Ben Braden, Kyle Kalis, and Erik Magnuson graduated and all are moving on to
play professionally. With Grant Newsome s health uncertain right now, sophomore Ben Bredeson and
senior Mason Cole will lead an otherwise inexperienced group this fall.
With Newsome, Michigan returns three linemen with significant starting experience. With such a
young group, it would be huge for the Wolverines to get the junior healthy. Newsome would naturally
slide back into his left tackle position.

return to the outside in 2017. If Newsome s healthy, look for Bredeson to anchor the right side.
Sophomore Michael Onwenu saw immediate playing time last season whether it was at guard or on
the defensive line. After playing well in limited action last year, the former top recruit looks poised to
start in 2017. The bulldozing 350 pounder would fill in nicely inside of Bredeson on the line.

The Major Effects Of Concussions In The NFL

Concussions in the NFL
Has the NFL done enough to help prevent concussions? That is the question that many people are
asking, including people who are currently in the NFL. The NFL has been in a bit of controversy over
the past couple of years due to players and doctors coming forward and talking about concussions
caused by playing football which can lead to longer and more extreme damage to the brain. The NFL
has been in a well known lawsuit from former players. The players are suing because of receiving
concussions while playing football and not being given proper treatment. The NFL has had to make
new rules and introduce a stricter policy when dealing with concussions. Advances in technology have
made it possible for people to be able to research and understand what caused the concussion and how
to prevent it. The NFL is now trying to come up with new ways to prevent concussions from
happening. Concussions can be limited in the NFL.
One of the problems of the NFL not dealing as well with concussions is the fact that not many people
used to know of the major effects that a concussion can have on the human brain. A concussion is a
type of traumatic brain injury caused by a blow to the head (NFL Concussions). Common symptoms
of concussions are: imbalance, headache, confusion, memory loss, loss of consciousness, vision
change, hearing change, mood change, fatigue, malaise (NFL Concussions). After suffering repeated

Sport Should Be Considered A Sport

What do you consider a sport?
Football, basketball, volleyball, and many more... these are all known as common sports that people
participate in. How many people were involved in sports during high school or even now in college?
What is it that makes it a sport? Is it the time commitment? Well what about the competitiveness? We
are all used to spending hours and hours on end practicing and preparing for something whether that
be a game, a tournament, or a competition... We have all been there before. I started dancing fourteen
years ago, when I was just three years old. Growing up, some of my friends always asked me why I
wanted to be apart of something that wasn t even considered a sport, but to me it was and it was the
best thing I could have ever been involved in. Anything that consists of countless hours of practicing
and is competitive should be considered a sport. The opinions on this topic are endless, but I m going
to discuss three reasons why I believe dance should be considered a sport. Dancers practice just as
much, if not more than other sports, they compete against other teams, and dancers act like a family to
one another. Although dance is known as an art, nobody said it could not be both an art and a sport.
Dancers express themselves in a way that resembles grace and emotion, but they also show strength
and gratitude. Dancing is a physical activity that takes a lot of Arts Alive article titled Dance 101,

The three major deficits are sensory, fine motor, and gross motor deficits. An extreme reaction to
sensory stimulation is sensory deficit and there are two subtypes: hypersensitive, which is excessively

synesthesia, which is the confusion of sensations from one another. Developmental delays in fine and
motor skills are usually common. An example of fine motor skills would be coloring, lacing their

gross motor skills. Sadly walking can be challenging for an autistic child or adult, causing them to

What Caused The American Revolution Research Paper
There was a feeling of revolution as soon as people left England to come to the New World. John
Adams explains how the revolution began when he says, The Revolution was effected before the war
commenced. The Revolution was in the minds and hearts of the people. The duel for America created
a restlessness among the independent minded Americans. However, mother England saw the necessity
of holding her colonies. Eventually, tension is felt between the two sides, resulting in colonial unity
and the sovereignty of a new republic. There were many causes and effects of the American
Revolution.
There were many causes that sparked America s new sense of individuality. One of the first causes
was the increased confidence in military strength, which caused a rise in colonial self esteem. This
increase in self esteem was a result of the valuable gain from the French and Indian War. The French
and Indian War, also shattered the myth of British invincibility, showing the colonials that anything

Tensions first arose when the London government issued the Proclamation of 1763. This proclamation

oppress the colonies, but it was made to work out the Indian problem to prevent another uprising like
Pontiac s. Mercantilism also added to the tension between Britain and America. Tension arose from
mercantilism because Americans were not at liberty to buy, sell, ship or manufacture under conditions
that they found most profit. The Boston Gazette explained how the colonists felt about mercantilism

The Five Stages Of Tuckman s Theory
Group Work This work will focus on the meaning, the five stages of Tuckman s theory, the approaches
and the uses of group work. Group work refers to a method of social work practice which is concerned
with the recognition and use of processes which occur when three or more people work together
towards a common purpose (Trevithick, 2005). According to Garvin, Gutierrez and Galinsky (2004),
the properties that can be use to describe and change group on which the influence may have an
impact include group characteristics, competencies, conditions, change and context. A group should be
small between five to nine persons, so that each one will be able to relate and engage every member in
the group. The group is viewed as a system, the condition of any member affects the other (Fatout,
1992). The five stage Tuckman s theory (1965) namely forming, storming, norming, performing and
adjourning focuses on the way in which a group handles a task from the beginning to completion. The
main group work approaches are cognitive behaviourist, feminist, psychoanalytic and humanistic
approaches. Knowledge of theory enhances effectiveness of group work. Since much of our time is
spend in groups, it is helpful to work in groups because it will give an opportunity to improve their
human functioning. Group work helps to develop individual skills in communication, relationship
building and asserting oneself (Lindsay and Orton, 2014). Some target groups might be difficult to

Peter Hessler and China
Peter Hessler and a fellow Peace Corp. volunteer were placed in Fuling, and poor town on the Yangtze
River in rural China. River Town is more or less a journal of what it was like being in Fuling on a day
to day basis. He illustrates his experience through stories of trips he took, people that he became close
with, and situations that required an open mind. Peter s job was teaching English literature at a small
college in the town; and through this was able to learn both about the tightly controlled nature of being
a foreigner in China, as well as some of the thoughts of the younger generation through various
assignments. He was greeted as a hero and was lavished upon, but at the same time found it very
difficult to be accepted by the locals, cadres or not.
Many hot topics were addressed, from the Cultural Revolution under Mao Zedong, to the
independence of Taiwan. It is amazing how nationalized China is and how standardized thinking is
there. To the people there; Mao is good because he is a revolutionary, and Taiwan is bad because they
should be part of China. Everything is simplified into this style of thinking and debate is not a valid
avenue for students (or teachers for that matter) to take. Hessler constantly fought with his position as
a foreigner, even after two years of living in the town. Ethnocentrism is evident in China just like it is

Effects Of Heart Disease On The Heart
The heart is one of the body s most vital organ, it pumps blood throughout the body specifically
organs and tissues that need oxygen and nutrients that the heart carries. It also helps to remove waste

WELLS GALEN DANSKIN Best Buy in Crisis Introduction At the end of fiscal 2012, Best Buy found itself in an increasingly challenging situation. Although it could still claim to be the world s largest consumer electronics retailer with $50.7 billion in revenues, growth for the year, at 0.9% was anemic. Meanwhile, Amazon s sales in Best Buy s categories were growing at more than 50% p.a. and its total sales, at $48 billion, were approaching those of Best Buy. Operating profits were also disappointing having dropped 54% to $1.1 billion and net income fell into the red at $1.2 billion. The fiscal 2012 year end stock price fell to $24.70, down from a high of $53.86 in 2006. In five years, Best Buy ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In 1988, personal computers were added to the product line. Four years into the superstore strategy, Highland, the industry number two, lowered its prices in Minneapolis, Best Buy s heartland, selling at 10% above cost. Best Buy margins fell sharply. In search of a new approach, Best Buy conducted consumer research and discovered the customers had a poor image of superstores. They saw shopping as a stressful experience and felt pressured by salespeople into buying expensive items. Customers wanted an enjoyable shopping experience and a no pressure selling environment. Concept II: 1989 1994 In response to this consumer research, Best Buy implemented a ground breaking grab and go store format in 1989 called Concept II. Backroom space in stores was turned into sales space and the inventory was put out on display with basic information labels so that customers could see what was in stock and understand the product without explanations from sales staff. Salaried product specialists replaced commissioned sales staff and, rather than pushing products on customers, patiently waited in department centers for customers who sought help. The format proved very popular, and by fiscal 1994, Best Buy operated 151 stores generating $3.0 billion in revenue and $77 million in operating profits. In the process, Best Buy entered Chicago and Texas, Highlands core territories, and the company went bankrupt. Concept III: 1995 2002 In 1995, Schulze, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The NC allows a mission planner to analyze whether a transfer is optimum or non optimum by evaluating the primer vector pro le along the transfer trajectory and see if it satisfy the NC. Transfer trajectory refers to the trajectory of the spacecraft from orbit around the departure planet to the orbit of around the destination. In case of non optimum trajectory, one can alter the trajectory by modifying the orbital velocity vector as such to satisfy the NC of optimality [13]. The modi cation of the velocity vector is achieved through implementation of DSM. A linear method to optimize a transfer based on the gradient of the cost functional was rst proposed by ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Solving primer vector equation using state transition matrix is the most common approach in the trajectory optimization. Since this approach relies on the numerical integration of the STM and the primer vector, the computation time becomes a disadvantage. With the rapid advancement in computer technology, the issue of computation time is not as significant as in the past. However, the numerical approach using STM did not give an insight to the optimization problem. In the paper by Iorfida, it is presented how the analytical solution to the out of plane case can be explored to nd the influence of the transfer orbit parameters to the optimality. There are numerous works which have been conducted to derive the analytical solution to the primer vector equation. Russel, in his paper, [25] presented an analytical solution to the primer vector equation for the low thrust transfer case. His method is based on the analytical derivation of the state transition matrix. Protestantism In Nineteenth-Century America Nineteenth century America contained a baffling cluster of Protestant factions and categories, with distinctive teachings, practices, and hierarchical structures. However, by the 1830s these bodies had a profound zealous accentuation in like manner. Protestantism has constantly contained a critical outreaching strain, yet it was in the nineteenth century that a specific style of zeal turned into the overwhelming type of otherworldly expression. What most importantly else portrayed this zeal was its dynamism, the pervasive feeling of lobbyist vitality it discharged. As Charles Grandison Finney, the main outreaching of mid nineteenth century America, put it: religion is the work of man, it is something for man to do. This fervent activism included a critical doctrinal move far from the predominately Calvinist introduction that had portrayed a lot of eighteenth century American Christianity. ... There are special circumstances however, where the government has their own right to censor you. In times of war, the government has not been as open with free speech, as there are high tensions and mass panic throughout the country. Until 1919, you could be fined for speaking against the military draft or dismantling the government. The Supreme Court has interpreted speech and press to include not only speaking and writing, but also television, radio, using the Internet, and symbolic expression. Restricting speech because of the content is generally illegal, because a main principle in democracy is that the government should not be allowed to decide what information the people are allowed to hear or read. Before the consolidation, the decision process for capital allocation was done primarily by the local managers of the foreign affiliate, who would then go out and raise the capital on their own. The subsidiary general manager then had to chase it to the end through a series of corporate decision making filters. This allocation system had other major implications on the relationship between the technical personnel on each side. Whereas before, the technical managers from the parent company provided assistance to subsidiaries on projects, the former now became a part of the judge and jury system to decide on the capital allocation to these subsidiaries. As a result, the technical managers tended to become more conservative with their advice and assistance to the subsidiaries. viii) Due to the incoherency of its area based organization structure, CIC found itself grappling with the global marketing coordination necessary for some businesses. Context Of Public Administration Public administration and its role within the context of U.S. democracy and politics is complicated due to the division amongst Americans and power held by political parties. The main objective of public administration is to serve the people and protect individual freedoms from big government. However, American citizens make it difficult to fulfill this objective by voicing their opinions on how they want to be served and how the government should be run. The division amongst Americans has been an integrated part of our government since its inception. In the late 18th century, the Founding Fathers were divided over their opinions of what the size and how much power the national government should have. The Constitution was formed over disputes and disagreements which is evident in the publication of the Federalist Papers. The Federalist Papers exposed the heavily debated battle for the approval of the Constitution. (Box, 2014) The battle to get the Constitution ratified was almost lost due to different opinions on how the government should be run. The ratification of the Constitution is an integrated part of our government s history that shows the complexity and complication of public administration. Kraft Furlong (2018) speak of Americans being ideologically conservative but liberal in practice to government service. (p. 40). Americans are conflicted about what type of government they want. Both narratives show journeys of hardship A Narrative of the Captivity and Restoration of Mrs. Mary Rowlandson and The Narrative of the Life of Olaudah Equiano or Gustavus Vassa, the African . Mary Rowlandson s story is about her journey through an 11 week period in which she was held captive by Native Americans during the King Philip s war, she was taken in exchange for ransom, as they needed money. Paper 1: Specific Surface: Determination and relevance Authors: J. C. Santamarina, K. A. Klein, Y. H. Wang and E. Prencke According to this paper, there are two methods used to determine the specific surface of clays: 1. Gas Adsorption (Dry conditions). 2. Absorption of molecules from solution onto a solid surface (Aqueous suspensions). In addition to these, specific surface can also be calculated using known thermo dynamic properties, microscopy, diffusiveness of X Rays, etc. But the paper focusses on the two methods mentioned earlier. That is the question that many people are asking, including people who are currently in the NFL. The NFL has been in a bit of controversy over the past couple of years due to players and doctors coming forward and talking about concussions caused by playing football which can lead to longer and more extreme damage to the brain. The NFL has been in a well known lawsuit from former players. The players are suing because of receiving concussions while playing football and not being given proper treatment. The NFL has had to make new rules and introduce a stricter policy when dealing with concussions. Advances in technology have made it possible for people to be able to research and understand what caused the concussion and how to prevent it. The NFL is now trying to come up with new ways to prevent concussions from happening. Concussions can be limited in the NFL. What is it that makes it a sport? Is it the time commitment? Well what about the competitiveness? We are all used to spending hours and hours on end practicing and preparing for something whether that be a game, a tournament, or a competition... We have all been there before. I started dancing fourteen years ago, when I was just three years old. Growing up, some of my friends always asked me why I wanted to be apart of something that wasn t even considered a sport, but to me it was and it was the best thing I could have ever been involved in. Anything that consists of countless hours of practicing and is competitive should be considered a sport. The opinions on this topic are endless, but I m going to discuss three reasons why I believe dance should be considered a sport. Dancers practice just as much, if not more than other sports, they compete against other teams, and dancers act like a family to one another. Although dance is known as an art, nobody said it could not be both an art and a sport. • 38. The Five Stages Of Tuckman s Theory Group Work This work will focus on the meaning, the five stages of Tuckman s theory, the approaches and the uses of group work. Group work refers to a method of social work practice which is concerned with the recognition and use of processes which occur when three or more people work together towards a common purpose (Trevithick, 2005). According to Garvin, Gutierrez and Galinsky (2004), the properties that can be use to describe and change group on which the influence may have an impact include group characteristics, competencies, conditions, change and context. A group should be small between five to nine persons, so that each one will be able to relate and engage every member in the group. The group is viewed as a system, the condition of any member affects the other (Fatout, 1992). The five stage Tuckman s theory (1965) namely forming, storming, norming, performing and adjourning focuses on the way in which a group handles a task from the beginning to completion. The main group work approaches are cognitive behaviourist, feminist, psychoanalytic and humanistic approaches. Knowledge of theory enhances effectiveness of group work. Since much of our time is spend in groups, it is helpful to work in groups because it will give an opportunity to improve their human functioning. Group work helps to develop individual skills in communication, relationship building and asserting oneself (Lindsay and Orton, 2014). Some target groups might be difficult to work with, but they ... Peter s job was teaching English literature at a small college in the town; and through this was able to learn both about the tightly controlled nature of being a foreigner in China, as well as some of the thoughts of the younger generation through various assignments. He was greeted as a hero and was lavished upon, but at the same time found it very difficult to be accepted by the locals, cadres or not. Many hot topics were addressed, from the Cultural Revolution under Mao Zedong, to the independence of Taiwan. It is amazing how nationalized China is and how standardized thinking is there. To the people there; Mao is good because he is a revolutionary, and Taiwan is bad because they should be part of China. Everything is simplified into this style of thinking and debate is not a valid avenue for students (or teachers for that matter) to take.
