Sigmund Freud Good Vs Evil
Sigmund Freud s theories of the unconscious mind focus on the dark aspects of fears and repressions
that plague an individual in childhood, and follow them unresolved into adulthood. Freud divides the
unconscious mind into a tri part; Id where our deepest desires lie, ego our conscious mind, and super
ego our moral guide based on our culture. Deconstructing the function of each tri part can seem
biased, especially with Freud s belief that women were inferior to men and people of color inferior to
all. Applying these concepts to the opposite gender and different race wasn t likely his top priority
especially in an equal playing field but, using the basic concepts could give a new perspective on these
excluded individuals, and the unique ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Dee doesn t care for following in her mother s footsteps. She is driven to be someone to shed her
identity leaves her with no moral qualms. When the family s first house had burned down, Mama
watches Dee staring hard into the flames. Why don t you dance around the ashes? (316) These are
Mama s own words and they lead the reader to ponder Dee s morals. Being situated outside of time
and the laws of logic, the Id also disavows value judgments, and, consequently, fails to recognize the
difference between good and evil. (Moreira) She seems to lack sympathy and compassion, for a home
lost seeing it as a fresh start; she hated the house, whereas Mama and Maggie lost everything. Maggie
as the ego has taken a toll from each woman, the envy and awe of the power of the Id and the guilt she
might feel from Mama in longing after that freedom. Maggie isn t ashamed of where she comes from,
but it s through Dee she had vision of where one can now go. Maggie is the opposite of Dee, she is
covered in burns from the fire, and she is soft spoken and extremely timid. Have you ever seen a lame
animal, perhaps a dog run over by some careless person rich enough to own a car, sidle up to someone
who is ignorant enough to be to be kind to him. (316) The same fire that allowed Dee to rise has
forever marred Maggie into a more submissive state. As the ego Maggie is the conscious of the black

The Importance Of Complications In Healthcare
Since the surveillance has been redirected by the Center for Disease Control in 2012 from ventilator
associated pneumonia (VAP) to ventilator associated events (VAE), which the focus is on the
preventable harms associated with being mechanically ventilated (AHRQ, 2017). The preventable
harms associated with a patient being mechanically ventilated include VAP, ventilator associated
complications (VAC), and infection related ventilator associated complications (IVAC). Being able to
meet my HealthPeople 2020 objective of decreasing VAE s within my agency s intensive care unit
(ICU) goal, I will be focusing on the ABCDEF care bundle along with oral care that pertains to our
mechanical ventilated patients. Patients in the ICU are much ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Assessing, preventing and managing pain plays an important role in patients experiencing delirium,
which in turn poor pain management can become a risk factor for many different other problems for
the patient. Dealing with mechanically ventilated patients it can be difficult to assess a patients pain
effectively, but using a proper pain assessment tool can be beneficial. Many also want to increase a
patient s sedation, but truly assessing a patient s pain might be the problem. Using sedation on a
patient that is mechanically ventilated can be necessary, but it is imperative to perform both
Spontaneous Awakening Trials (SAT) and Spontaneous Breathing Trials (SBT) on every patient to
maximize the potential for weaning a patient off the ventilator. The choice of Analgesia and Sedation
can be assessed properly using the Richmond Agitation Sedation Scale (RASS) and can decrease the
chances of a patient becoming over sedated. Choosing between analgesia and sedation can affect the
weaning process, length a patient is ventilated, and how long a patient is in the ICU and potentially
developing delirium. Monitoring and Managing Delirium is so important because up to 81% of

Is Iago A Hero Or A Villain
Both, Iago (from Othello) and Roger (from Lord of the Flies) are presented by Shakespeare and
Golding as villains. However in my opinion, Iago is more villainous that Roger. This is evident
through their initial presentations and how their character progresses throughout their respective
pieces; their evil characteristics, motives and how their actions affect the story line and seen by other
characters. A villain is a person who is responsible for trouble, harm or damage as a result of their
wicked or immoral actions. Shakespeare s Iago is an evil character, who performs his actions
consciously and without reason. Shakespearean critic A. C. Bradley said that evil has nowhere else
been portrayed with such mastery as in the evil character of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Iago is first shown to be a manipulative villain and stays the same throughout the entire play.
However, the extent to which he deceives other characters increases as the play progresses. Iago has
been evil all along, although it surfaces gradually. In Act 1 Scene 1 of Othello his trickery only causes
Roderigo to be cheated out of his money, while in Act 2 Scene 3, Iago s deception causes Roderigo to
pick a fight with drunken Cassio, hence causing Cassio to lose his position as lieutenant. Moreover in
Act 5 Scene 2, after he poisons Othello s mind with his carefully crafted words, Othello murders
Desdemona as a result of Iago s manipulation. While Iago does not become more evil throughout the
course of Othello, Roger clearly does. In other words, Roger goes from the slight and furtive choir boy
he was at the beginning of Lord of the Flies, to descending into savagery at the end of the novel. The
earliest you see Roger away from all of the choir boys is in chapter 4, when he walks out the forest
with Maurice. Relieved of fire duty, they decide to come down for a swim. Roger kicks down the
sandcastles Henry and some other littluns built, causing them only emotional pain. However, soon
Henry is sitting alone in the sand, and from behind a tree Roger threw a stone, but he threw to miss,

American Civil Liberties are NOT Violated by the Patriot Act
American Civil Liberties are NOT Violated by the Patriot Act
As we face the threat of terrorism, how do we protect ourselves without hurting our freedoms? Today,
terrorism is a major threat to our homeland security and has become increasingly more prevalent and
difficult to monitor with the public s accessibility to communication and information through today s
technology. Terrorists are now able to communicate more freely with recent technological advances.
In an effort to combat this new threat, the government passed the Patriot Act, which was created to
relieve some of the difficulties of monitoring communications and activities of the public so the
government can easily detect terrorist activity. In response to the ... Show more content on

government, and we can t afford to have people lose their lives because part of the information is in
one department and part is in another department and they are not talking to each other (Frank, 2002,
p. 1505).
The Patriot Act expands the pen register statute to include electronic communications and Internet
usage, which was previously limited to tracing of telephone numbers called by suspect criminals
(Olsen, 2001). In addition, this act allows the government to obtain warrants to examine what people
read in libraries and bookstores from records on what a person checks out or buys. Moreover, the law
allows the government to detain or deport suspects of terrorism as well as monitor financial transcripts
and electronic records. Recently, the federal court ruled to expand the use of wiretaps and other
surveillance techniques in tracking suspected terrorists under the Patriot Act. The main part of the
ruling is removing previously existing legal barriers between the FBI and the Justice Department
investigators, prosecutors and law enforcement personnel (Fox, November 2002).
Those opposed to the Patriot Act claim that it takes away our civil liberties and basic rights afforded
under the Constitution. Many argue that the bill was rushed through Congress and never gave
members time to go over it or interpret it (Demmer, 2002). According to one representative who voted
against the bill, the bill was never available to him to read before the

Course Title
Date Submitted Types of White Collar Crime: There are different types of criminal offenses since a
criminal act can be regarded as a specific type of offense based on the nature of crime. The various
types of criminal activities have developed to become more than a single problem to nearly all
criminal justice systems across the globe. The main reason for the divergent classification of criminal
activities is because they occur in different settings and are conducted for different motives. The major
types of crimes across the globe are drug, street, organized, political, victimless, and white collar
crimes. Street crimes and drug crime problems have developed to become the two leading problems
for many law enforcement agencies. White collar crimes can be described as offenses that are
conducted or occur with a business setting ( About the Different Types , n.d.). Some of the major
white collar crimes are theft and fraud, counterfeiting, bribery and kickbacks, public corruption, mail
fraud, money laundering, embezzlement, and identity theft. These types of crimes need to be
approached with critical and careful care because they sometimes involve difficult financial
transactions and high profile figures such as politicians or business executives. One of the major
differences between white collar crimes and other types of illegal activities is the fact that these types
of offenses do not involve physical violence since they are non violent

Robin Hood Research Paper
Who was Robin Hood? Legend has it that Robin Hood was an outlaw living in Sherwood Forest with
his Merry Men but did the outlaw of Nottingham really exist?
Robin Hood, the subject of many ballads, books and films, has proven to be one of popular culture s
most enduring folk heroes. Over the course of 700 years, the outlaw from Nottingham who robs from
the rich to give to the poor has emerged as one of the most versatile folk heroes but how has the
legend of Sherwood Forest s merry outlaws evolved over time and did a real Robin Hood inspire these
classic stories?
Robin Hood was famous for being an outlaw from Nottingham who robs from the rich and gives away
the stolen goods to the poor. Robin became a popular folk hero because of his generosity to the poor
and down trodden peasants and his hatred of the Sheriff and his verderers who enforced the oppressive
forest laws, made him their champion. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

bowman with a quick mind and mischievous sense of humour. Evicted by the greedy Norman
overlords, he is forced to live beyond the law in the depths of Sherwood. From his forest lair, he

Media Bias Definition
In what ways can bias be defined, according to the authors?
The authors define bias in the text in three main ways. The first is distortion bias which is applied to
news that purportedly distorts or falsifies news. The second is content bias this happens when news
outlets favor one side rather than providing fair and equal treatment to both. The third and final bias
definition in the text is decision making bias, this bias look s at the mindset s of journalists who
allegedly produce the biased content.
The authors argue that elites do care what people think. What is the reason they offer?
The authors say those in dominate society or better known as the elites care about what people think
because they want people to behave in certain ways. Also the elites want people to tolerate elite
activities. The reading states the best definition of power is the ability to get others to do what one ...

The news shapers are journalistic institutions, individual journalist, and the elites. To begin journalist
institutions and individual journalist are connected due to the fact that journalist working at certain
institutions embody their institutions norms and viewpoints. Media bias flows from the minds of
journalist and within the process of journalistic institutions. Just as journalist institutions influence
individual journalist elites in our society influence journalist institutions.
Did the examination of the results of studies conducted on bias find that there is bias? If so, what kind
and what examples were presented?
Coming to definite conclusion on media bias is not an easy task. There s a variety of factors at play.
However, the examination of the results of studies conducted on bias found that there is bias. This was
done by looking at a variety of different factors and from there creating a biased index. The text states
national media have been biased in favor of tax reductions since

Gospel Of Wealth And Poverty Analysis
During the time of World War I, the United States was dealing with a lot of internal problems. At the
time before the war, Darwinism is very prominent. The working class looked to those in poverty as if
they were the scum of the earth. Then there was the gospel of wealth. The gospel of wealth believed
the things that you have is a divine blessing and has favor in the eyes of God (Roark, Johnson, Cohen,
Stage, Hartmann, 2014, p.563). While the working class enjoyed themselves those in poverty was
trying to make a living. Those in poverty could of ran to a settlement house. Settlement houses were
sent up in poor neighborhoods to help with the progressivism (Roark, Johnson, Cohen, Stage,
Hartmann, 2014, p.563). Jane Adams and Lillian Wald started the profession of social work by living
amongst the less fortunate and helping them get to where they were (Roark, Johnson, Cohen, Stage,

Heydrich s Accomplishments
Heydrich slowly rose to power with his strong determination and ruthlessness. He first joined the Nazi
party with an organization of elites who were only selected for their racial attributes. He started out as
an intelligence collector for an organization known as the SS (Security Service). He worked day in
and day out to recover lost intelligence and gain more about the enemy. With his hard work, he
eventually organized a big network of spies who wrote down anything on anyone who might pose a
threat to Hitler. Heydrich s persistence pushed him high up the ranks of the SS until he was finally
appointed SS Brigadier General, one of the very few generals younger than 30. He was now the main
commander of the SS (Curry).

One of his biggest exploits was convincing the Soviet leader Stalin to eliminate the Top Red Army
generals in return for intelligence on a possible conspiring coup against Stalin himself. Heydrich even
planned the personal attack of two of the Nazi s prized generals because of their opposition towards
Hitler s long range war plans. In 1937 98, Himmler and Heydrich worked endlessly to encourage pro
Nazi sabotage and attacks in Austria. Because of his vicious hate for the Jews, Heydrich organized the
Gestapo Office of Emigration. This permitted Jews to leave Austria but at a cost of most of their life
possessions. More than a hundred thousand Jews left Austria but at a severe cost to themselves or their
family (Curry).
Two years later, Heydrich was given control of the Protectorate of Bohemia and Moravia, the Reich s
most important centers of industry. Shortly, however, he went back to Berlin to take care of some
unfinished business (Curry). He had finally decided with other members of the Nazi party, the final
solution of the Reich s Jewish Question. Although it would be very costly, they had planned to take all
of the Jews out to extermination camps and completely destroy the the entire Jewish

We Are The Cosmos Made Conscious And Life Is The Means By...
We are the cosmos made conscious and life is the means by which the universe understands itself.
Brian Cox. What is consciousness? I remember being a student in a NSCS 200 class, answering the
attendance question of whether plants are conscious beings. They aim to fulfill a goal, they sense
things, and with those stimuli, they make actions. So theoretically, they are conscious. But do they
have consciousness? Are they aware what they are doing and why they are doing it? Do they feel
things within themselves? And if the answers are no, what is then the difference between humans and
between plants?
Susan Schneider wrote in The Blackwell Companion to Consciousness, anything that we are at a
given moment forms part of our consciousness, making conscious experience at once the most
familiar and most mysterious aspects of our lives. Searching for the word consciousness in the
dictionary, a definition of the state or quality of awareness, or, of being aware of an external object or
something within oneself could be found. It can also be described as sentience, awareness,
subjectivity, the ability to think or feel, and the executive control of the mind. Many theories of where
consciousness comes from have arisen, but there seems to be an underlying theme of what
consciousness is, in the broader sense, to most theories.
For instance, most theories agree that all sensory organs and their perceptions must combine within
the brain to give us consciousness, and not separate

Stereotypes In Being A Man By Paul Theroux
Mans Code: ¨Be where you re suppose to be, do what you re suppose to do, and do it to the best of
your ability.¨ Brian Balsmeyer. A man is defined as a provider, protector, center of many stereotypes,
as well as someone who knows their strengths and weaknesses. A man also stays loyal and honest at
all times. Being born a male doesn t qualify you to eventually become a man. The traits previously
mentioned must be acquired to give the title, a man. The first thing that defines a man are the
stereotypes they must face.
To be a man means to be constantly criticized based on how the world views that sex. Men must be
prepared to be the center of many stereotypes. Almost all stereotypes being very negative. A man is
thought of as a self centered prick whose testosterone has gone to their head, and has a competitive
love for things that don t matter, like sports. In Being a Man by Paul Theroux, he says to be a man
means, ¨to be stupid, be unfeeling, obedient, soldierly and stop thinking¨(Theroux). Men are seen to
not think about the consequences for the actions they take part in. An image of a man can be pictured
as a large male with big biceps, lots of chest hair, and when he talks, his voice is deep, making the hair
on your skin rise. This ¨man¨ is also more than likely part of a competitive group. Rebecca Walker
states the stereotype that women only like masculine, competitive men.
¨Tell him that who he is authentically is not enough; tell him that he will not be loved unless

significantly smaller number of stores with 42 locations while Nordstrom has 121 stores in the US and
Canada. With fewer stores Neiman Marcus has to make sure that they are appealing enough for their
customers to want to take the extra time to come to them rather than going to a Nordstrom that is more

The Blind Side By John Lee Hancock
On the surface, The Blind Side may seem like a great feel good movie, but once the movie is
analyzed, it s apparent that the movie is filled with blatant stereotypes as well as racism. The Blind
Side, based off of a true story, shows the protagonist escaping poverty against all odds and growing up
to be very successful with the help of a select few. Although some may argue that escaping poverty
and becoming successful like Michael did is very possible this connotation of escaping poverty
depicted in the movie is highly unrealistic, contributes to derogative stereotypes, and would also be
very unlikely to happen in real life. The Blind Side, a feel good sports drama intended for everyone,
especially young kids and teenagers, was released on November 20th in 2009 and was directed by
John Lee Hancock. The Blind side was very successful in the box office, grossing hundreds of
millions of dollars and quickly became the movie to see of the thanksgiving holiday season. The Blind
Side starred Sandra Bullock, playing the role of an extremely wealthy white woman. Her character,
Mrs. Tuohy, a feisty, passionate and caring Christian woman, took in a homeless African American
kid, Michael Oher. Despite the success of the movie in the box offices, the movie received very mixed
reviews from critics. The mixed opinions of this movie are largely due to the controversial issues the
movie addresses as well as the controversial issues this movie does not address. Many critics thought

Chadwick s Argumentative Analysis
A little girl is enrolling in kindergarten. She meets all the qualifications necessary for the school,
except for one: she has not received all the required vaccinations. Her parents have heard stories of
children developing autism after receiving the MMR vaccine, and they are not willing to give her
immunizations. These parents are not alone in this fear, though there is no scientific evidence that any
vaccine causes autism. This false idea arose from a study (which was eventually revoked) in The
Lancet, a medical journal in the United Kingdom, which showed that children developed
gastrointestinal problems related to autism after receiving the MMR vaccine.

vaccinations for their children. Although this is a significant increase, there are other reasons that
explain an increase in autistic children. Due to more research in neurological conditions, there was
more information available about autism. Children were often diagnosed as simply mentally retarded
when in fact they had a disorder on the autism spectrum. Therefore, a change in diagnoses contributed

The Persistence Of Ancient Symbols From Neolithic And...
1. Introduction This dissertation examines the persistence of ancient symbols from Neolithic and
Pictish eras and the ways in which they reappear in Scottish art. The discussion takes the form of a
hypothetical exhibition which brings together examples of art from many periods and in a variety of
formats. Rugoff (2006, p.46) states exhibitions need to ask interesting questions, even unanswerable
questions, instead of handing us tidy answers . By bringing together cultural artefacts and works of art
in one venue this exhibition raises questions about how objects come to be defined as art and whether
our definitions depend on the context within which an object is viewed. The thesis of the exhibition
therefore is that in placing ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

surroundings and site specific guided visits to remind the visitor of the essential role of the land in
Scottish art. The audience reached by this multi perspective approach will therefore be a wide one,
including those interested in Scotland and its history as well as those with an interest in art and
creative processes. 2. The Exhibition Thesis: how we decide what is Art The ancient artefacts in the
exhibition include works widely separated by great periods of time, and works which have been
altered by succeeding generations. For millennia the oldest works were simply there , and part of
folklore. From the eighteenth century they began to be viewed as being of antiquarian interest; later
they were taken into the care of professional organisations, and later still they began to be considered
as a form of art . The exhibition acknowledges the uncertainties surrounding their original purpose.
Presenting them in an artistic context, it demonstrates that our definitions of what constitutes art are
also problematical. Even the all encompassing definition recently proposed by Brian Eno art is

Driscoll Model Of Reflection In Nursing
INTRODUCTION The professional value that I have chosen to reflect on from my practice is based
on privacy and dignity for a patient admitted in the hospital. To enhance my reflection development,
Driscoll (2007) model of reflection; What? So what? Now what? will be apply. According to
(Lowenstein, Bradshaw, and Fuszard, 2004), reflection is the method of analysing and reviewing one s
practice as a nurse, with the aim of improving one s interactive skills with both patient and colleagues.
Reflection is a method of re evaluating practice accounts and providing substitute tactics to doing
things (Howatson Jones, 2016). Reflection is a vital learning tools which can progress on innovative

How Did The Seven Years War Affect Canada
Before everything for Canada was all great, many things were destroyed during events but later on
was able to be fixed and allow Canada to be stable just like how it is stated by Sir John A Macdonald
who said, I am a Canadian, free to speak without fear, free to worship my own way, free to stand for
what i think right, free to oppose to what i believe wrong, or free to choose who shall govern my
country. This heritage of freedom i pledge to uphold myself . This quote connects very well as though
Canada had an unstable history, it ended to be able to be everything the quote stated. However, in
order to achieve this, many events occurred; such as the Spanish Succession war, the Seven years war,
as well as Loyalists that started settling in Upper Canada, and the Act of Union. The Spanish
Succession took place in 1713 allowing Britain to take over Acadia. Soon after in 1763, the Seven
years war took place and had allowed the British to gain more control over more land known as North
America. However, that was not the end of changes as more happened in 1791 when more loyalists
started settling in Upper Canada and had separated Upper and Lower Canada, later on in 1838 the Act
of Union occurred which had then combined Upper and Lower Canada. Unfortunately, ... Show more

The relatively close pH levels of Tap Water, Spring Water,

This experiment was performed to investigate the following hypothesis: The following four different
types of drinking water (spring water, seltzer water, tap water, and flavored water) we test will

Our group decided to test different types of drinking water to see if a pH level of tap water is
comparable to other types of water. Many people believe that city water has many chemicals, causing
us to form the expirement to see how close the different types of drinking water s pH levels are.

We then moved the electrode in one of the beakers of water we wanted to test. We measured the pH
level, recorded it, then placed it back into the clean water it was orignally in. We repeated these steps
for each of the different type of drinking water.
The control treatment in our expirement was thr red cabbage indicator. The dependent variable is the
pH of the water. The independent variable is the different types of drinking water ( tap water, spring
water, seltzer water, and flavored water). The standard variables in the expirement are the clean test
tubes, the clean pipettes, the Paraflim, the pH tester, and the pH levels pH 2, pH 4, pH 6, pH 7, pH 8,
pH 10, and pH 12.
Results
Table 1 shows the standard of the standard of the expirement. It is used to compare the color of the red
cabbage expirement to form an educated guess on the pH level of the different types of water. Table 2

The Promise of Pentecost
The Promise of Pentecost
I am going to send you what my Father promised; but stay in the city until you have been clothed with
power from on high.
Luke 24:49(NIV)
Since the Old Testament, the Spirit of God was promised to come to the people of God. The prophet
Joel wrote: And afterward, I will pour out my Spirit on all people. Your sons and daughters will
prophesy, your old men will dream dreams, your young men will see visions. (Joel 2:28 NIV) Nine
hundred years later, the Spirit of the living God was poured upon His church in an event named
Pentecost. The purpose of the following research is to show the Pentecost as a major point in the life
of the apostles, as well as the beginning of the church of Christ.

Practically every doctrine of Christian theology is included in this first sermon given at Pentecost. (34)
What is Minister Ockenga talking about? The fisherman betrayer was preaching with great eloquence
and authority? It seems like Peter had something different.
Arno Clemens says: In his bold testimony Peter, the erstwhile denier of Christ, manifests the power of
the Holy Spirit. His inspired testimony shows what witness the Holy Spirit will bear through the
believer, when He is unhindered. (34) Clemens adds: Peter preached the Word and through the Word
he preached the Person, the Work and the Glory of Christ. (34)
The first message from Peter was a blast. Veli Matti Kärkkäinen, professor of theology at the
University of Helsinki, says: Pentecost is a dramatic work of the Spirit: Three thousand repent, and
charismatic elements are visible. (31) Ockenga includes an interesting fact: This sermon resulted in
the conversion of 3,000 people, who continued in the apostles doctrine and in prayer. They were note
temporary conversions. (35)
Another important issue that marked the life of the Apostles specially Peter s, was that they were now
able to do miracles like what they saw Jesus do. Minister Ockenga says: In his position as an apostle,
Peter had great power so that he performed miracles. (35) Acts 2:43 says: Everyone was filled with
awe, and many wonders and miraculous signs were done by the apostle. (NIV) Minister Ockenga

Waterhouse Watson and Kendal (2012) discuss while discussing Prater s (2012) view; they say Based
on comics from the 1960s and 70s, Prater argues that the more recent films disempower the female X
men, while trying to claim an alibi for this sexist representation.
It is an interesting view, highlighting how passive the audience becomes to hegemonic beliefs in a
movie if the story happens to be adapted from a comic that was written roughly 40 years earlier.
What Waterhouse Watson and Kendal (2012) were stating, about the X Men film franchise, also
applies to the expanded universe of comic books. Hulshof Schmidt (2008) talks about story arcs in

What Is The View That In Domestic Policy Wolsey Was...
Do you agree with the view that in domestic policy, Wolsey was successful as the king s chief
minister?
When answering this essay I am going to measure Wolsey s success on his ability to please Henry. The
different categories which I am judging Wolsey s success are; finance, religion, law and order,
parliament and government and admin.
The first domestic policy category I am going to look at is government and admin. One of the
successful acts that Wolsey achieved in this category was centralising the local government. Doing
this brought things into the central control of the king and restored his power. Wolsey also began to
break up local magnate s power, this then transferred the more power over to Henry rather than the

However, the church was in need of reform and although Wolsey talked about doing it he never did,
Wolsey was a failure in the aspect of Church and Religion as he did nothing, which to the people made
it look like Henry did nothing also. Although it may look like Henry did nothing, most of the blame

The English Patient Essay
Count Lazlo Almasy, the English Patient, is a man in an Imperial time and world. The people in this
world live by Imperial rules and perpetuate Imperial stereotypes. The film takes place in World War II
era Africa, and as the film portrays it, in the mysterious and exotic Sahara desert and in Cairo, Egypt.
Count Almasy s character lives in the desert among imperial explorers and in the desert environment
full of natives who bring to life classic stereotypes full of ignorance and white prevalence and power.

young boy s DNA. Another main point of the chapter is that the romance that is usually associated
with the native peoples of the colony, the environment, and the colonizer taming both serves as further

The character of Count Almasy, the explorer, member of The International Sand Club, and

Dual Engineering And Integrated Product Development
Question #1) Concurrent engineering (also known as simultaneous engineering and integrated product
development (IDP)) was originally defined in 1988 by the Institute for Defense Analysis (IDA) in its
report The Role of Concurrent Engineering in Weapons System Acquisition (Stark, 1998). This
practice is opposite to consecutive engineering, where various components of a business (such as
marketing, manufacturing, and design) are siloed with one another. Consecutive engineering leads to a
throw it over the wall mentality, as one business component such as marketing performs the tasks
required for its division and then would send it down the line to design. This fragmented business
structure leads to quality issues in the product development, which results in greater cost and slower
development (Stark, 1998). In addition, a company can expect with consecutive engineering to have
many engineering changes occur, issues with production, and lower product competiveness. These
engineering changes can negatively affect the cost of the product, as a change that occurs much farther
down the process will have higher scrap and rework associated with changes that occurred earlier in
the product conception. Figure 1: Concurrent Engineering Overview (Information Systems Planning
Corporation) In stark contrast, as evidenced in a simplistic viewpoint from Figure 1, concurrent
engineering brings together these various departments in product development, and utilizes

Analysis of Judith H. Dobrzynski´s High Culture Goes...
Judith H. Dobrzynski s article, High Culture Goes Hands On, suggests that the museums current trend
of providing visitors with an experience threatens the current model of providing solace and
inspiration (Dobrzynski 3). However, I disagree with this conclusion. Interactive experiences and
contemplative approaches can co exist just so long as museums adjust in response to how our ever
evolving culture receives it. Transitioning from museums elitist paradigm is critical to creating a more
accessible community conscious design. Dobrzynski, on the other hand, views these differences as
shedding the very characteristics that made [art museums] so special (1), a pessimistic sentiment that
shows her contempt towards development.
Before we can assess the roles of a museum, what exactly is the institution? Didier Maleuvre explains
museums as, devoted to the protection, preservation, exhibition, and furtherance of what a community
agrees to identify as works of art (Maleuvre 9). As we develop new modes of interaction and
technological advancements, are museums that provide interactive experiences and art works not
included in this explanation? I certainly do not think so. Audience engagement should not be feared
but promoted; the trouble, though, is finding the right balance. Maleuvre also believes that it was the
museum s responsibility to challenge the status quo, and its own cultural identity, which, provides
further cause for change as museums have moved away from

The Spanish American War And The Civil War
1.The Spanish American War was fought in 1898. It was a very short war and had very little deaths
compared to the previous wars and battles. The Spanish American War only lasted one hundred and
thirteen days. Even though the Spanish American war was a short war, it had many of very useful
world changing outcomes. The conflict began when the Cubans wanted independence from Spain.
Spain would not give Cubans their independence. The Cubans go tired of begging so eventually, the
United States got involved, and it was an all out war against Spain. Toward the end of the nineteenth
century, tensions were high between Spain and Cuba. Jose Marti wanted independence from Spain and
the only way they believed they could do it was by declaring war in 1895. Many of Americans
supported the Cubans who were struggling for freedom because lots of Americans were or still are in
their shoes or knew who it felt to not have freedom. The newspaper journalists played a huge part at
the beginning of the Spanish American War as well as during the war. The journalists published
various articles talking bad about the Spanish government and published exaggerated stories of how

While the visual promotional effect of the Posse Rides should be exploited as much as possible,
commercializing them should be avoided. The Posse participants are Harley s best customers and this
event should be an opportunity to reward them, not exploit them. The indirect benefits, such as
building brand awareness and loyalty, are much more important than short term sales. Given the wide
differences in income, raising prices and/or offering special amenities for additional costs, will simply
drive off working class participants that blow their annual wad on one rally. This would change the

The Posse Rides should also continue to maintain their exclusivity. If everyone can get a Posse T shirt

because of the mixups between the love juice and the fairies. One such mixup is when Hermia and
Lysander s plans to elope are very suddenly halted when Helena hears of their plans and tells
Demetrius, who decides to see if Helena s rumors are true. Demetrius then goes into the woods,

Inventive , industrious, ingenious . Moreover, it is to him that the Greeks owe their victory, thanks to
the Trojan Horse ruse. Odysseus uses his ingenuity when a threat arises, but also by taste. Prudence
and dissimulation are two features of this inventiveness. Thus, to protect himself, he maintains the

Minimum Legal Drinking Age
Young adults drinking under the age of 21 only has negative impacts on today s society and will only
get worse by lowering the minimum legal drinking age. Currently, the legal drinking age in the United
States is 21 years old and it should stay that way. Reason being, that only positive results have come
from making the minimum legal drinking age 21. These positive results include lower costs, less
alcohol related car crashes, and avoiding other dangers like unwanted pregnancy and young adults
being unable to defend themselves while under the influence of dangerous characters. At the age of
18, you may be considered an adult, but you do not have all of the rights that a 21 year old holds.

Underage drinking actually costs the United States a lot of money. In 2007, underage drinking cost the
U.S. $68 billion or $1 for every single drink consumed (Haynes, Melodee). You may ask, how can this
be? Well to get to our total of $68 billion, first, there are the medical bills from accidents related to the
consuming of alcohol underage which totaled to about $7.4 billion. Also, $14.9 billion from income
loss and $45.7 billion from pain and suffering which totals to $68 billion, the total amount of money
spent towards this issue (Haynes, Melodee). Since lowering the drinking age will increase car crashes,
insurance rates will rise because of higher premiums from traffic accidents or convictions for driving
under the influence. Other things that may cost you money are the unwanted pregnancies from teens
being drunk and having unprotected sex. This will either lead to an abortion, which costs money, or
you will need to take care of the baby, which can cause an endless amount of money. Also, the child
could be born with fetal alcohol syndrome (FAS) which would add even more expenses for treatment.
The treatment for sexually transmitted diseases that you may also get from having unprotected sex
costs a significant amount of money. Lastly, the largest expense of them all is the life of a

Theistic Evolution Research Paper
One might ask, what is theistic evolution? The answer might not be as simple as it would seem.
Theistic Evolution takes on many different aspects in ones life and can also lead one astray from the
true joy of what God has in store for a persons life. To define theistic evolution one would have to go
back and reveal what the belief actually is. It has been said that if one were to take the Bible literally,
then that person would be a fool. Those of us who believe in God as creator and author of all that exist
must be those fools they speak of and proud of it. Theistic evolution is one of three major origin of life
worldviews, the other two being atheistic evolution (also commonly known as Darwinian evolution
and naturalistic evolution) ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The two theistic evolution viewpoints disagree as to the role God played in the unfolding of events,
but they generally agree on the Darwinian timeline. This timeline is in conflict with the Genesis
creation account. For example, Genesis 1 says that the earth was created on day one and the sun,
moon, and stars were not created until day four. Some argue that the wording of Genesis suggests the
sun, moon, and stars were actually created on day one but they could not be seen through earth s
atmosphere until day four, leading to their placement on day four. This is a bit of a stretch, as the
Genesis account is pretty clear that the earth did not have an atmosphere until the second day. If the
sun, moon, and stars were created on day one, they should have been visible on day

The Structure Of Development Of Brain
The structure of development of brain has always been interesting to study. There are various theories
to how the brain has evolved since ancient times. Scientists consistently try to find new researches that
helps us understand our past. Humans have much in common with animals biologically. We, humans
share similar properties with animals, and of the many factors, morality and ethics are the driving
forces that makes us humans unique to other animals. Although it has long been a debate to weather
animals too have a sense of morality and ethics, or share a similar level of consciousness, it is widely
recognized that humans have a greater level of language acquisition and emotional feelings. Many
scientists have tried to prove such ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Since chimpanzees are universally thought to be humans closest living relatives, many experiments
have been done in the past with chimpanzees. There were three experiments conducted, experiment
one for mutualism and selfishness, experiment two for altruism and weak spite and experiment three
for altruism and spite.
Experiment one primarily dealt with mutualism, where the chimpanzees allow the recipient to have
food in relation to her actions, or selfishness, where the chimpanzees eat alone without any food for
the recipients. When experiment one was conducted, the chimpanzees were all socially housed at the
same research centre and had completed physical and social cognition that made sure the chimpanzees
were in good shape and fit to take part in the experiment. It is important to note that the chimpanzees
were not deprived of food or water. The actors included three adult females, two young females, and
one young male, while the recipients were the higher social status alpha male and a five year old child
male. The actors primarily chose to make food available to the recipient which suggests the possibility
of mutualism. One strong observation that showed in this experiment was that the chimpanzees did
not pull the food away from the recipients often, suggesting signs that the actors of the chimpanzees
were not engaging in selfish behaviour. The

Historical Significance of Eleanor Rigby
Overview A song by Beatles, Eleanor Rigby was released simultaneously on the album Revolver in
the year 1966 as well as on a 45 rpm single. Primarily, the song was written by Paul McCartney and
was dedicated to Lennon McCartney (Miles, 1997). George Martin did a great job at making a string
quartet arrangement. The striking lyrics about loneliness along with the arrangement transformed the
kind of songs from what were mostly pop oriented to the kind that were studio based. There is no
second opinion about the fact that this song made a dent in the conventions of the popular music; both
in terms of lyrics and music (Campbell and Bondy, 2008). Pertaining to the fates and concerns of the
elderly that are mostly neglected, Richie Unterberger has said that this is one of the main reasons why
Beatles have been able to catch the attention of people who are beyond the traditional rock audience
(Unterberger, 2013). Historical Significance This song also has a historical connotation since there is a
gravestone by the name of Eleanor Rigby in St. Peter s Churchyard that is situated in Woolton, United
Kingdom. It should be noted that Woolton is a suburb of the city of Liverpool and this is where
Lennon and McCartney first met during a fete at St. Peter s Church. According to the gravestone that
bears the name of Eleanor, she died at the age of 44 in the year 1939. Nonetheless, Eleanor is not the
kind of lonely people that the Beatles have stressed upon in their song as she was

The Pensieve And Harry Potter Comparison
The term Poetry is a word derived from the Greek meaning to make or create. Much like the word
sugguests, Poetry is the art of creating literature, which deals with human experiences. To understand
bette what Poetry is, one can use the Pensieve in Harry Potter.
The Pensieve has the appearance of a hollow stone, with runes and symbols carved around it s
opening. Inside the Pensieve is a silver cloud like liqiud/gas which is the physical appearance of the
memories owned by the person who owns the Pensieve. When touching the surface of the silver
memories, the person who touches it gets transported into the memory they touch, therefore giving
that person the ability to view it from a third person point of view. Although the person can view the
memory as if they are there, they can neither change the order of events, nor participate or influence
the memory they are viewing. However, the person is capable of feeling the emotions, desires or
views of the person who owns the memory.
In this analogy, the person supplying the memory would be the Poet, and the person viewing it would
be the reader. In Poems, the Poet uses the four senses to transport the reader into a picture that he is
painting. The reader can feel all the shared emotion that the Poet tries to convey, but not unlike in the

Antipsychotic agents can be classified in several ways. Generally, they can be designated as older
drugs (often called conventional or typical antipsychotics) and newer ones are atypicals. Typical
Antipsychotics Block the D2 receptors of mesolimbic as well as dorsal striatum region leads to
antipsychotic action along with extrapyramidal side effects (EPS). Atypical Antipsychotics Block the
D2 receptors of mesolimbic region leads to the antipsychotic action and also block the 5HT2A
serotonin receptors which allows dopamine release in dorsal striatum region resulting in no
extrapyramidal side effects (EPS). Hence atypical antipsychotics are superior over typicals. Nowadays
majority of the atypical antipsychotics are used due to its benefits. The atypical antipsychotics include
quetiapine (Seroquel, AstraZeneca), olanzapine (Zyprexa, Eli Lilly), ziprasidone (Geodon, Pfizer),
Clozapine (Clozaril, Novartis), aripiprazole (Abilify, Bristol Myers Squibb/Otsuka), risperidone

The Governmental Branches Of The United States Essay
Three governmental branches were created by the new constitution: an executive branch, a judicial
branch and a legislative branch. The constitution called for the election of a governor and 24 senators
and identified eligible voters as men who were possessed of freeholds of the value of one hundred
pounds, over and above all debts charged thereon. The constitution also called for the election of 70
assemblymen for 14 declared counties who were to be elected by male inhabitant of full age, who
shall have personally resided within one of the counties of New York State for six months immediately
preceding the day of election. New York also guaranteed the right to trial by jury, which had been
eroded under British rule. The Constitution granted the national government more power than under
the Articles of Confederation. Many Americans were concerned that the national government with its
new powers, as well as the new division of power between the central and state governments, would
threaten liberty. Legislative Branch New York State Legislature refers to the two houses that act as the
state legislature of the U.S. state of New York. The New York Constitution does not designate an
official term for the two houses together. It says only that legislative power is vested in the senate and
assembly. The Legislature, through its varied functions, serves as a check upon the executive authority
of the Governor and helps ensure that the best interests of the State s citizens are

The Ku Klux Klan History
The Ku Klux Klan and its history in the State of Colorado
There are many hate groups that are very notorious or infamous in history one of the biggest and
powerful to ever form is the Ku Klux Klan. Many groups have formed throughout history but few
have gained as much influence and power at a wide scale or at the speed that they were capable of
dominating an entire state. I picked the Klan for these very reasons when people think of highly
intolerant attitudes and practices what typically comes to mind is the south although the south clearly
has problems most people are not aware that most of the states with highly intolerant view and racism
and discrimination issue lie outside the south such places as Indiana and Michigan, One however that
really surprised me is the state of Colorado somewhere that I have lived my entire life as it turns out I
don t know a whole lot about its history as it turns out the Klan was huge in the state in the early 20 s.
I will now be discussing how, when, and why the Klan ceased power in the State.
In 1915 a resurrection of the group was called upon by a man named Joseph Simmons in Georgia
however the following of people was not a very big out comes just about five thousand people joined
this happened in Alabama and Georgia. (Noel, 2013). At the time there was a very big protestant
population ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

already made in history and allowing the Klan to obtain power of the state is a pretty big misstep. In

learned a lot about the state that I really never had any idea about growing up here I could of never

Essay On Pertussis
1.0 Introduction
This paper discusses the condition pertussis with regard to its prevalence in Australia and the United
States. It also explores prevention methods currently recommended by leading organisations. Despite
a reduction of mortality linked to pertussis, it remains a health concern worldwide (WHO, 2010).
2.0 Definition of pertussis
Pertussis, also referred to as whooping cough, is a bacterial infection affecting the upper respiratory
tract (Pluta, Lynm, Glass, 2010). Caused by the Bordetella pertussis bacterium, this disease is most
commonly diagnosed in unvaccinated young children. The infection is characterised by a long lasting
wet cough, paroxysms of coughing, a whooping sound on inspiration (Pluta et al., 2010), and often
vomiting following the coughing (Bentley, Pinfield, Rouse, 2013). The bacteria are transmitted by
airborne droplets released when infected individuals sneeze or cough and, consequently, the infection
is highly contagious (Chivima, 2011). Pertussis has a 7 10 day incubation period and the disease can
last from 6 8 weeks and is therefore notably ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
They can determine whether patients require vaccinations through access to medication records or
inferred diagnosis made when reviewing prescription records (Bach Goad, 2015). Their traditional
role is distributing medication, but they may also provide immunisations, such as the Tdap vaccine
which is supplied by pharmacies in 43 states in the U.S. (Mills, Fensterheim, Taitel, Cannon, 2014).
By supplying vaccines, pharmacies make immunisation more convenient by providing a solution to a
significant barrier for immunisation, this being ease of access (Mills et al., 2014). In addition, they
may also be involved in educating their community on available vaccines and where to go to obtain
them, further reducing this barrier in the local community (Bach Goad,

The Case Ban On Tobacco Ads And Talks About The Conflict...
This essay is a case study analysis that uses the case Ban on Tobacco Ads and talks about the conflict
of interests between tobacco producers and the Government of India. In Feb 2001 the Government of
India published the news on tabling a bill that bans Tobacco companies on advertising cigarettes and
sponsoring the sports and other cultural events.
(1) There are several arguments that support the Government s decision:
1. Protection of people s health. As World Health Organization states that the 3 million deaths in 1990
occurred as a result of smoking and in 1998 it raised to 4.023 million.
2. Preventing the children aged 14 24 years from being smokers. According to internal document from
R J Reynolds (1998) the bright advertising of the cigarettes that had a camel s picture on the packing
was attractive to children and stimulated teenage smoking.
3. Contributions of cigarettes to the budget of India is 0.14% versus the health costs which account for
0.21%.
4. Provision of employment by the tobacco industry is an illusion because those who will not be
employed in the tobacco field will be employed somewhere else and will be more labor intensive.
5. Complete bans on the tobacco products give a better decrease in tobacco consumption. This is
evident in the investigation of UK s Department of Health (1992) which found out that the banning of
advertising resulted in fall of smoking.
(2) Opposed to the Government there are several arguments from Tobacco companies that

  • 2. Sigmund Freud Good Vs Evil Sigmund Freud s theories of the unconscious mind focus on the dark aspects of fears and repressions that plague an individual in childhood, and follow them unresolved into adulthood. Freud divides the unconscious mind into a tri part; Id where our deepest desires lie, ego our conscious mind, and super ego our moral guide based on our culture. Deconstructing the function of each tri part can seem biased, especially with Freud s belief that women were inferior to men and people of color inferior to all. Applying these concepts to the opposite gender and different race wasn t likely his top priority especially in an equal playing field but, using the basic concepts could give a new perspective on these excluded individuals, and the unique ... When the family s first house had burned down, Mama watches Dee staring hard into the flames. Why don t you dance around the ashes? (316) These are Mama s own words and they lead the reader to ponder Dee s morals. Being situated outside of time and the laws of logic, the Id also disavows value judgments, and, consequently, fails to recognize the difference between good and evil. (Moreira) She seems to lack sympathy and compassion, for a home lost seeing it as a fresh start; she hated the house, whereas Mama and Maggie lost everything. Maggie as the ego has taken a toll from each woman, the envy and awe of the power of the Id and the guilt she might feel from Mama in longing after that freedom. Maggie isn t ashamed of where she comes from, but it s through Dee she had vision of where one can now go. Maggie is the opposite of Dee, she is covered in burns from the fire, and she is soft spoken and extremely timid. Have you ever seen a lame animal, perhaps a dog run over by some careless person rich enough to own a car, sidle up to someone who is ignorant enough to be to be kind to him. (316) The same fire that allowed Dee to rise has forever marred Maggie into a more submissive state. As the ego Maggie is the conscious of the black women, at the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Importance Of Complications In Healthcare Since the surveillance has been redirected by the Center for Disease Control in 2012 from ventilator associated pneumonia (VAP) to ventilator associated events (VAE), which the focus is on the preventable harms associated with being mechanically ventilated (AHRQ, 2017). The preventable harms associated with a patient being mechanically ventilated include VAP, ventilator associated complications (VAC), and infection related ventilator associated complications (IVAC). Being able to meet my HealthPeople 2020 objective of decreasing VAE s within my agency s intensive care unit (ICU) goal, I will be focusing on the ABCDEF care bundle along with oral care that pertains to our mechanical ventilated patients. Patients in the ICU are much ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Assessing, preventing and managing pain plays an important role in patients experiencing delirium, which in turn poor pain management can become a risk factor for many different other problems for the patient. Dealing with mechanically ventilated patients it can be difficult to assess a patients pain effectively, but using a proper pain assessment tool can be beneficial. Many also want to increase a patient s sedation, but truly assessing a patient s pain might be the problem. Using sedation on a patient that is mechanically ventilated can be necessary, but it is imperative to perform both Spontaneous Awakening Trials (SAT) and Spontaneous Breathing Trials (SBT) on every patient to maximize the potential for weaning a patient off the ventilator. The choice of Analgesia and Sedation can be assessed properly using the Richmond Agitation Sedation Scale (RASS) and can decrease the chances of a patient becoming over sedated. Choosing between analgesia and sedation can affect the weaning process, length a patient is ventilated, and how long a patient is in the ICU and potentially developing delirium. Monitoring and Managing Delirium is so important because up to 81% of mechanically ventilated ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Is Iago A Hero Or A Villain Both, Iago (from Othello) and Roger (from Lord of the Flies) are presented by Shakespeare and Golding as villains. However in my opinion, Iago is more villainous that Roger. This is evident through their initial presentations and how their character progresses throughout their respective pieces; their evil characteristics, motives and how their actions affect the story line and seen by other characters. A villain is a person who is responsible for trouble, harm or damage as a result of their wicked or immoral actions. Shakespeare s Iago is an evil character, who performs his actions consciously and without reason. Shakespearean critic A. C. Bradley said that evil has nowhere else been portrayed with such mastery as in the evil character of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Iago is first shown to be a manipulative villain and stays the same throughout the entire play. However, the extent to which he deceives other characters increases as the play progresses. Iago has been evil all along, although it surfaces gradually. In Act 1 Scene 1 of Othello his trickery only causes Roderigo to be cheated out of his money, while in Act 2 Scene 3, Iago s deception causes Roderigo to pick a fight with drunken Cassio, hence causing Cassio to lose his position as lieutenant. Moreover in Act 5 Scene 2, after he poisons Othello s mind with his carefully crafted words, Othello murders Desdemona as a result of Iago s manipulation. While Iago does not become more evil throughout the course of Othello, Roger clearly does. In other words, Roger goes from the slight and furtive choir boy he was at the beginning of Lord of the Flies, to descending into savagery at the end of the novel. The earliest you see Roger away from all of the choir boys is in chapter 4, when he walks out the forest with Maurice. Relieved of fire duty, they decide to come down for a swim. Roger kicks down the sandcastles Henry and some other littluns built, causing them only emotional pain. American Civil Liberties are NOT Violated by the Patriot Act American Civil Liberties are NOT Violated by the Patriot Act As we face the threat of terrorism, how do we protect ourselves without hurting our freedoms? Today, terrorism is a major threat to our homeland security and has become increasingly more prevalent and difficult to monitor with the public s accessibility to communication and information through today s technology. Terrorists are now able to communicate more freely with recent technological advances. In an effort to combat this new threat, the government passed the Patriot Act, which was created to relieve some of the difficulties of monitoring communications and activities of the public so the government can easily detect terrorist activity. The Patriot Act expands the pen register statute to include electronic communications and Internet usage, which was previously limited to tracing of telephone numbers called by suspect criminals (Olsen, 2001). In addition, this act allows the government to obtain warrants to examine what people read in libraries and bookstores from records on what a person checks out or buys. Moreover, the law allows the government to detain or deport suspects of terrorism as well as monitor financial transcripts and electronic records. Recently, the federal court ruled to expand the use of wiretaps and other surveillance techniques in tracking suspected terrorists under the Patriot Act. The main part of the ruling is removing previously existing legal barriers between the FBI and the Justice Department investigators, prosecutors and law enforcement personnel (Fox, November 2002). Those opposed to the Patriot Act claim that it takes away our civil liberties and basic rights afforded under the Constitution. • 6. Types of White Collar Crime Name Tutor Course Title Date Submitted Types of White Collar Crime: There are different types of criminal offenses since a criminal act can be regarded as a specific type of offense based on the nature of crime. The various types of criminal activities have developed to become more than a single problem to nearly all criminal justice systems across the globe. The main reason for the divergent classification of criminal activities is because they occur in different settings and are conducted for different motives. The major types of crimes across the globe are drug, street, organized, political, victimless, and white collar crimes. Street crimes and drug crime problems have developed to become the two leading problems for many law enforcement agencies. White collar crimes can be described as offenses that are conducted or occur with a business setting ( About the Different Types , n.d.). Some of the major white collar crimes are theft and fraud, counterfeiting, bribery and kickbacks, public corruption, mail fraud, money laundering, embezzlement, and identity theft. These types of crimes need to be approached with critical and careful care because they sometimes involve difficult financial transactions and high profile figures such as politicians or business executives. One of the major differences between white collar crimes and other types of illegal activities is the fact that these types of offenses do not involve physical violence since they are non violent ... He first joined the Nazi party with an organization of elites who were only selected for their racial attributes. He started out as an intelligence collector for an organization known as the SS (Security Service). He worked day in and day out to recover lost intelligence and gain more about the enemy. With his hard work, he eventually organized a big network of spies who wrote down anything on anyone who might pose a threat to Hitler. In 1937 98, Himmler and Heydrich worked endlessly to encourage pro Nazi sabotage and attacks in Austria. Because of his vicious hate for the Jews, Heydrich organized the Gestapo Office of Emigration. This permitted Jews to leave Austria but at a cost of most of their life possessions. More than a hundred thousand Jews left Austria but at a severe cost to themselves or their family (Curry). Two years later, Heydrich was given control of the Protectorate of Bohemia and Moravia, the Reich s most important centers of industry. • 11. We Are The Cosmos Made Conscious And Life Is The Means By... We are the cosmos made conscious and life is the means by which the universe understands itself. Brian Cox. What is consciousness? I remember being a student in a NSCS 200 class, answering the attendance question of whether plants are conscious beings. They aim to fulfill a goal, they sense things, and with those stimuli, they make actions. So theoretically, they are conscious. But do they have consciousness? Are they aware what they are doing and why they are doing it? Do they feel things within themselves? And if the answers are no, what is then the difference between humans and between plants? Susan Schneider wrote in The Blackwell Companion to Consciousness, anything that we are at a given moment forms part of our consciousness, making conscious experience at once the most familiar and most mysterious aspects of our lives. Searching for the word consciousness in the dictionary, a definition of the state or quality of awareness, or, of being aware of an external object or something within oneself could be found. It can also be described as sentience, awareness, subjectivity, the ability to think or feel, and the executive control of the mind. Many theories of where consciousness comes from have arisen, but there seems to be an underlying theme of what consciousness is, in the broader sense, to most theories. For instance, most theories agree that all sensory organs and their perceptions must combine within the brain to give us consciousness, and not separate ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 12. Stereotypes In Being A Man By Paul Theroux Mans Code: ¨Be where you re suppose to be, do what you re suppose to do, and do it to the best of your ability.¨ Brian Balsmeyer. A man is defined as a provider, protector, center of many stereotypes, as well as someone who knows their strengths and weaknesses. A man also stays loyal and honest at all times. Being born a male doesn t qualify you to eventually become a man. The traits previously mentioned must be acquired to give the title, a man. The first thing that defines a man are the stereotypes they must face. To be a man means to be constantly criticized based on how the world views that sex. Men must be prepared to be the center of many stereotypes. Almost all stereotypes being very negative. A man is thought of as a self centered prick whose testosterone has gone to their head, and has a competitive love for things that don t matter, like sports. In Being a Man by Paul Theroux, he says to be a man means, ¨to be stupid, be unfeeling, obedient, soldierly and stop thinking¨(Theroux). Men are seen to not think about the consequences for the actions they take part in. An image of a man can be pictured as a large male with big biceps, lots of chest hair, and when he talks, his voice is deep, making the hair on your skin rise. This ¨man¨ is also more than likely part of a competitive group. Rebecca Walker states the stereotype that women only like masculine, competitive men. ¨Tell him that who he is authentically is not enough; tell him that he will not be loved unless ... • 14. The Blind Side By John Lee Hancock On the surface, The Blind Side may seem like a great feel good movie, but once the movie is analyzed, it s apparent that the movie is filled with blatant stereotypes as well as racism. The Blind Side, based off of a true story, shows the protagonist escaping poverty against all odds and growing up to be very successful with the help of a select few. Although some may argue that escaping poverty and becoming successful like Michael did is very possible this connotation of escaping poverty depicted in the movie is highly unrealistic, contributes to derogative stereotypes, and would also be very unlikely to happen in real life. The Blind Side, a feel good sports drama intended for everyone, especially young kids and teenagers, was released on November 20th in 2009 and was directed by John Lee Hancock. The Blind side was very successful in the box office, grossing hundreds of millions of dollars and quickly became the movie to see of the thanksgiving holiday season. The Blind Side starred Sandra Bullock, playing the role of an extremely wealthy white woman. Her character, Mrs. Tuohy, a feisty, passionate and caring Christian woman, took in a homeless African American kid, Michael Oher. Despite the success of the movie in the box offices, the movie received very mixed reviews from critics. The mixed opinions of this movie are largely due to the controversial issues the movie addresses as well as the controversial issues this movie does not address. Many critics thought ... She meets all the qualifications necessary for the school, except for one: she has not received all the required vaccinations. Her parents have heard stories of children developing autism after receiving the MMR vaccine, and they are not willing to give her immunizations. These parents are not alone in this fear, though there is no scientific evidence that any vaccine causes autism. This false idea arose from a study (which was eventually revoked) in The Lancet, a medical journal in the United Kingdom, which showed that children developed gastrointestinal problems related to autism after receiving the MMR vaccine. Although this is a significant increase, there are other reasons that explain an increase in autistic children. Introduction This dissertation examines the persistence of ancient symbols from Neolithic and Pictish eras and the ways in which they reappear in Scottish art. The discussion takes the form of a hypothetical exhibition which brings together examples of art from many periods and in a variety of formats. Rugoff (2006, p.46) states exhibitions need to ask interesting questions, even unanswerable questions, instead of handing us tidy answers . By bringing together cultural artefacts and works of art in one venue this exhibition raises questions about how objects come to be defined as art and whether our definitions depend on the context within which an object is viewed. The thesis of the exhibition therefore is that in placing ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The audience reached by this multi perspective approach will therefore be a wide one, including those interested in Scotland and its history as well as those with an interest in art and creative processes. 2. The Exhibition Thesis: how we decide what is Art The ancient artefacts in the exhibition include works widely separated by great periods of time, and works which have been altered by succeeding generations. For millennia the oldest works were simply there , and part of folklore. From the eighteenth century they began to be viewed as being of antiquarian interest; later they were taken into the care of professional organisations, and later still they began to be considered as a form of art . The exhibition acknowledges the uncertainties surrounding their original purpose. Presenting them in an artistic context, it demonstrates that our definitions of what constitutes art are also problematical. Even the all encompassing definition recently proposed by Brian Eno art is everything you don t have to do (Eno, 2015, 14m. 30s.) fails in the face of artefacts which would appear to have been an intrinsic ... How Did The Seven Years War Affect Canada Before everything for Canada was all great, many things were destroyed during events but later on was able to be fixed and allow Canada to be stable just like how it is stated by Sir John A Macdonald who said, I am a Canadian, free to speak without fear, free to worship my own way, free to stand for what i think right, free to oppose to what i believe wrong, or free to choose who shall govern my country. This heritage of freedom i pledge to uphold myself . This quote connects very well as though Canada had an unstable history, it ended to be able to be everything the quote stated. Dual Engineering And Integrated Product Development Question #1) Concurrent engineering (also known as simultaneous engineering and integrated product development (IDP)) was originally defined in 1988 by the Institute for Defense Analysis (IDA) in its report The Role of Concurrent Engineering in Weapons System Acquisition (Stark, 1998). This practice is opposite to consecutive engineering, where various components of a business (such as marketing, manufacturing, and design) are siloed with one another. Consecutive engineering leads to a throw it over the wall mentality, as one business component such as marketing performs the tasks required for its division and then would send it down the line to design. This fragmented business structure leads to quality issues in the product development, which results in greater cost and slower development (Stark, 1998). In addition, a company can expect with consecutive engineering to have many engineering changes occur, issues with production, and lower product competiveness. These engineering changes can negatively affect the cost of the product, as a change that occurs much farther down the process will have higher scrap and rework associated with changes that occurred earlier in the product conception. Dobrzynski s article, High Culture Goes Hands On, suggests that the museums current trend of providing visitors with an experience threatens the current model of providing solace and inspiration (Dobrzynski 3). However, I disagree with this conclusion. Interactive experiences and contemplative approaches can co exist just so long as museums adjust in response to how our ever evolving culture receives it. Transitioning from museums elitist paradigm is critical to creating a more accessible community conscious design. Dobrzynski, on the other hand, views these differences as shedding the very characteristics that made [art museums] so special (1), a pessimistic sentiment that shows her contempt towards development. Before we can assess the roles of a museum, what exactly is the institution? Didier Maleuvre explains museums as, devoted to the protection, preservation, exhibition, and furtherance of what a community agrees to identify as works of art (Maleuvre 9). As we develop new modes of interaction and technological advancements, are museums that provide interactive experiences and art works not included in this explanation? I certainly do not think so. Audience engagement should not be feared but promoted; the trouble, though, is finding the right balance. Toward the end of the nineteenth century, tensions were high between Spain and Cuba. Jose Marti wanted independence from Spain and the only way they believed they could do it was by declaring war in 1895. Many of Americans supported the Cubans who were struggling for freedom because lots of Americans were or still are in their shoes or knew who it felt to not have freedom. The newspaper journalists played a huge part at the beginning of the Spanish American War as well as during the war. The journalists published various articles talking bad about the Spanish government and published exaggerated stories of how the government was treating their citizens in Spain. One publisher wrote a letter to the ambassador in Spain expressing how he felt about him. He said that the ambassador was a weak leader, and he did not know anything about politics. The Posse participants are Harley s best customers and this event should be an opportunity to reward them, not exploit them. The indirect benefits, such as building brand awareness and loyalty, are much more important than short term sales. Given the wide differences in income, raising prices and/or offering special amenities for additional costs, will simply drive off working class participants that blow their annual wad on one rally. This would change the nature of the Posse from an open, inclusive group to a rich, closed one. The Posse Rides should also continue to maintain their exclusivity. If everyone can get a Posse T shirt because of merchandising they will not be worth having to real Posse Riders. Keeping the number of participants small also adds to the feeling of exclusivity, as well as only having a Posse Rides no more than once a year. Primarily, the song was written by Paul McCartney and was dedicated to Lennon McCartney (Miles, 1997). George Martin did a great job at making a string quartet arrangement. The striking lyrics about loneliness along with the arrangement transformed the kind of songs from what were mostly pop oriented to the kind that were studio based. There is no second opinion about the fact that this song made a dent in the conventions of the popular music; both in terms of lyrics and music (Campbell and Bondy, 2008). Pertaining to the fates and concerns of the elderly that are mostly neglected, Richie Unterberger has said that this is one of the main reasons why Beatles have been able to catch the attention of people who are beyond the traditional rock audience (Unterberger, 2013). Historical Significance This song also has a historical connotation since there is a gravestone by the name of Eleanor Rigby in St. Peter s Churchyard that is situated in Woolton, United Kingdom. It should be noted that Woolton is a suburb of the city of Liverpool and this is where Lennon and McCartney first met during a fete at St. Peter s Church. Much like the word sugguests, Poetry is the art of creating literature, which deals with human experiences. To understand bette what Poetry is, one can use the Pensieve in Harry Potter. The Pensieve has the appearance of a hollow stone, with runes and symbols carved around it s opening. Inside the Pensieve is a silver cloud like liqiud/gas which is the physical appearance of the memories owned by the person who owns the Pensieve. When touching the surface of the silver memories, the person who touches it gets transported into the memory they touch, therefore giving that person the ability to view it from a third person point of view. Although the person can view the memory as if they are there, they can neither change the order of events, nor participate or influence the memory they are viewing. However, the person is capable of feeling the emotions, desires or views of the person who owns the memory. In this analogy, the person supplying the memory would be the Poet, and the person viewing it would be the reader. This essay is a case study analysis that uses the case Ban on Tobacco Ads and talks about the conflict of interests between tobacco producers and the Government of India. In Feb 2001 the Government of India published the news on tabling a bill that bans Tobacco companies on advertising cigarettes and sponsoring the sports and other cultural events. (1) There are several arguments that support the Government s decision: 1. Protection of people s health. As World Health Organization states that the 3 million deaths in 1990 occurred as a result of smoking and in 1998 it raised to 4.023 million. 2. Preventing the children aged 14 24 years from being smokers. According to internal document from R J Reynolds (1998) the bright advertising of the cigarettes that had a camel s picture on the packing was attractive to children and stimulated teenage smoking. 3. Contributions of cigarettes to the budget of India is 0.14% versus the health costs which account for 0.21%. 4. Provision of employment by the tobacco industry is an illusion because those who will not be employed in the tobacco field will be employed somewhere else and will be more labor intensive. 5. Complete bans on the tobacco products give a better decrease in tobacco consumption. This is evident in the investigation of UK s Department of Health (1992) which found out that the banning of advertising resulted in fall of smoking.
