Case Study, Marc Chagall
Discuss how the environment and other influences, for example personal beliefs, have shaped the
work of at least one artist you have studied this year. Refer to work done by this artist to substantiate
your statements.
Marc Chagall was a Russian/French artist who was born into a poor family of Hassidic Jews on the
7th July 1887. Throughout his working life he was based in Russia from 1906 1910, then he moved to
France for four more years before moving back to Russia and Soviet Belarus for eight years. Chagall
was strongly influenced, but not limited to, movements such as Cubism, Fauvism and Surrealism.
These movements are demonstrated in his work through the geometric shapes, his use of colour and
the seemingly random placement of people ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This is because of the circle in the middle of the artwork joining the man, the goat and the
background.
This artwork is a surreal representation of the town of Vitebsk where Chagall grew up. Chagall is
trying to comment of the relationship of people with the land, which is demonstrated by the man
looking at the goat as an equal and also by the woman milking a goat. As there are in many of Chagall
s works, there is a spiritual reference in this artwork. The goat and the Star of David are the symbolic
references. The goat is a great symbol of sacrifice for the Jewish religion. The colours in the artwork
are reminiscent of the circus or other flamboyant events. The man could represent the ringmaster. This
could all show the way in which man lives in harmony with animals and the environment. The large
circle in the middle of the page could symbolise the sun and the all the chaos surrounding it could
show that the earth and everything on it is dependent on the sun for life. The bright colours could also
symbolise the fake world, opposed to that of the world when Chagall grew up.
In The Green Violinist (1923 24) we see a green man wearing a purple coat, which is composed of
geometrical shapes. He is placed in the centre of the artwork and is standing on or floating in the air
above a couple of houses playing a violin. The fact that he is the only object that is coloured brightly
in secondary colours compared to the rest of

Mob s Target Nicely Conveys The Premise Of This Crime...
The title MOB S TARGET nicely conveys the premise of this crime thriller. The plot focuses on an
insecure and fearful accountant who testifies against a major mobster, sending him to prison. The mob
wants revenge and she s the target. She enters a Witness Protection program, but an enforcer tracks her
down.
The goal of survival is clear and the stakes are life and death. There are several themes incorporated
into the script about trust, revenge, justice, survival, and second chances.
The script also poses some intriguing moral questions, especially for the police chief Joe. He has to
struggle with the moral argument of family vs. justice. He clearly has a moral dilemma.
With that said, this is a plotline that has been done before, but ... Show more content on

The plot also offers another coincidence with the idea that Megan s father was murdered and that
Brown investigated it. Again, too many coincidences cause one to question the credibility of the plot.
In this case, it s not clear how Megan s dad being murdered is relevant, or how it connects to the
plotline. The backstory is left dangling for the audience. It s a serious backstory to have a parent
murdered; yet there s no payoff for the reveal.
Normally, a backstory has some emotional affect on the current storyline. For example, if Megan were
home when her dad was killed and she was unable to protect and save him, then this could be a
relevant inner conflict for her. She could carry the guilt about her father and now she has to learn to
protect herself. Or in another example, if Megan were home when her dad was murdered, maybe she
saw the killer and now years later he reappears. Regardless, the idea of the connection to Brown isn t
clear and it s suggested to eliminate this connection unless there s a solid link to the present day
storyline and the past.
The opening sets the tone for a mobster story. It establishes that Nick is deadly. However, the scene isn
t as tense or suspenseful as it could be. One reason for this is that the audience isn t emotionally
invested in the owner of the bookshop and the dialogue and action doesn t create compelling enough
tension.
The other concern about the tone is that, in

An Example About Prostate Cancer
If we take a look at an example about prostate cancer, with the data collected by Hastie, Tibshirani,
Friedman in The Elements of Statistical Learning [2] and view the scatterplot in figure 1.1, we can see
that the dependent variable, the log of the prostate specific antigen (lpsa) has a strong positive
correlation particularly with lcavol (the log cancer volume) and lcp (the log of capsular penetration)
with weaker but still strong correlations with the other dependent variables, log prostate weight
(lweight), age, log of the amount of benign prostatic hyperplasia (lbph), and percent of Gleason scores
4 or 5 (pgg45), but not the svi (seminal vesicle invasion) and gleason (gleason score) as these are
categorical variables [2]. Below figures 1.2 and 1.3 were fit with all variables and figures 1.4 and 1.5
were simplified by removing variables that had high p values until I felt that the model was better
improved and they were fit thereafter. When we plot the fitted values against the residuals, if there is
linearity, we should get an even spread around the line at 0. If we look at figures 1.2 and 1.4, for
which the R coding can be found in the appendix below (section 7), we can see that they both seem to
have linearity with figure 1.2 having possible outliers further away from the line and figure 1.4 having
a more even spread. Taking a look at figure 1.3 we can see that there is a particularly good fit along
the middle but the tails have fairly large variation, suggesting a

Yorkville City Tax Case Study
As the city manager of Yorkville city I have been presented with a 1% tax income proposal on behalf
of the members of the city council in order to accumulate around 1 million dollars yearly to decrease
the current deficit that the city has of $650,000.The city council is asking me to hand out flyers to
promote this tax to the voters in order to pass the proposal with the city residents support in the next
coming elections. I would personally analyze the proposal and the reasons why there is such a bad
deficit of $650,000 and I would also find the specific measures taken by the city council or previous
city officials to work on the issue. The information should be gathered in different areas such as
accountability, new city programs and expenses ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
On this specific case the dichotomy will involved the request made by the seven members of the city
council who are usually elected every two years and whose responsibility is to rectified my current
position. The support that the city council is asking for seems to be purely political, and the council
also expects my full support while presenting face on this 1 % income tax proposal in front of city
residents. That is a dichotomy where a public server like me gets frequently involved. However,
Frederickson (2015) also states that as a public administrator there is an inherent duty of policy
legitimacy and an ethical obligation to protect the interests of the underrepresentated. It is also
expected to administer city affairs according to the law, and bureaucratic standards of efficiency as
well as fairness (Frederickson,pg.20). If the council 1 % increase tax proposal does not benefit the
majority of the city s population, I would personally try to create a plan to address the deficit by
proposing a plan to evaluate, eliminate or preserve city programs. I would present this plan in the next
meeting and I would also politely express that I do not think it is appropriate for me to go around door
to door handing out

Topic On Alcopops And Teen Binge Drinking
Introduction
In this report I will be discussing the topic on Alcopops and teen binge drinking teen binge drinking.
Binge drinking is drinking large amounts of alcohol for the purpose of getting drunk. Teenagers
generally do this on a weekend and the drink of choice is the sweet flavoured Alcopops. These drinks
come in a variety of cool colour and flavours and are marketed at the younger target group
Binge drinking is a widely used term, and is the act of drinking heavily over a short period of time or
over several days. Alcopops are the only alcoholic drink whose popularity declines with age. Alcopops
begin introducing young people to alcohol at a young age, before they move onto other types of
alcoholic drinks, such as wine and beer.
1 What are Alcopops
Alcopops are pre mixed, spirit based drinks. They have their own category known as the ready to
drink or RTD segment of the alcohol market. Alcopops were first sold in Australia in 1995 and the
Alcopop market has expanded rapidly since then. Today, there are about 400 Alcopop products
available in Australia. They usually contain high levels of sweeteners, colouring, and flavouring and
resemble soft drinks in the way they taste and in their appearance. Alcopops have an average alcohol
content of around five percent, which is stronger than normal strength beers. Alcopops are much more
popular in the younger age groups and are the drink of choice for over half of 12 14 year olds.
Alcopops have cooler names like Carnival

A Comparison Of Alone Together By Arthur Schwartz And...
This piece is a jazz standard that was composed by Arthur Schwartz and Howard Dietz. Schwartz was
born in Brooklyn, New York on November 25, 1900 and died on September 3, 1984. He began
playing piano and harmonica at a very young age and also wrote silent films at the age of fourteen.
Dietz was born on September 8,1896 and died on July 30, 1983. He was a publicist and lyrists. Him
and Schwartz first started working together when they teamed up for a Broadway show in 1929. They
composed Alone Together in 1932 for the Broadway musical Flying Colors (Schwartz composing the
music and Dietz the lyrics). This particular piece is considered a ballad, meaning that the tune tells a
story. Ballads come from the French chanson and they are often made up of thirteen lines with an
ABABBCBC form. It was originally used for dance tunes, but in the nineteenth century it was used
for slow tunes. The actual form for Alone Together is AABA. The significant thing about the first two
A sections, is that it is fourteen bars long which is very uncommon when it comes to American song
writing. In common song writing, each A section is only eight bars long. The bridge of the tune also
known as the B section is quite normal. It is the standard eight bar length which leads to the last eight
bars of the third A section. The tune is written in key of D minor, but, instead of playing a D minor in
the thirteenth measure of the last A section, Schwartz decides to play a D major which is called a

Contemporary Theories Of Subcultures
A subculture is considered a group of dominant people or culture that has been defined in its norms,
values, and interests, which are often inconsistent to those of large groups. (Bohm Vogel, 2011)
Subcultures were created when a group of people that share the same beliefs or circumstances finds
themselves cut off from society. (Bohm Vogel, 2011) These groups are distinct from those of the
majority and are held by a group into a broader society. Most subcultures are recognized by their age
of its members, or by race, ethnicity, class, gender, and their qualities that may be aesthetic, religious,
occupational, political, and sexual or a combination of these factors. However, people create
subcultures as a way to feel accepted while also signifying that they are different from other groups.
The subculture theory focuses on consistent distinctiveness, identity, commitment, and autonomy.
The first subculture group I would like to recognize is the police they are law enforcement officers
with specific types of attitudes, beliefs, and behaviors. I place them in the subculture category because
of they spend their time dealing with crime; therefore they tend to be judgmental towards members of
the public viewing them as untrustworthy and potentially hostile; therefore, the public view the police
as being unreliable and abusive as well. The police depend on their cohorts to back them up, and
mostly teamwork to apprehend criminals; therefore, it creates a dynamic of police

Integrating Quotes Into Paper
Tips on Introducing Quotes General Principles Writers use quotations for a variety of purposes: to
argue with another author s definition of a term, to provide statistical evidence or testimony to validate
a claim; to present the reader with a statement we wish to refute or discuss in detail. If writers overdo
and include too many quotations in a research essay, readers will form the negative impression that the
authors of those sources are more authoritative than the writer of the research paper. Often the voices
of those authorities drown out the writer s voice, in a sense taking over authorship of the paper.
Writers should use direct quotations only when the source s words are particularly relevant, powerful,

Analysis Of The Film Cache ( French For Hidden And Racial...
Introduction This essay aims to analyze the representation of characters in the film Caché (French for
hidden , 2005) and the racial issues between the colonizer and the colonized through the
psychoanalysis of colonialism and post colonialism. I will first give a synopsis of the film. Directed by
Michael Haneke, Caché presents the story of a bourgeois, middle aged French man, George, who
receives anonymous tapes. This makes him recall his childhood memory of an Algerian boy, Majid.
Majid s parents worked in George s house but died in the massacre on 17th Oct., 1961 when the
French police killed more than 200 Algerians. After Majid lost his parents, George s parents originally
planned to adopt him. However, as George was the only child in his family, he was afraid of letting
Majid enter the family. He set up a lie by saying his father wanted Majid to kill a rooster. George then
claimed to his parents that Majid did this to scare him; therefore George s parents sent Majid to an
orphanage. About forty years later, George, who has grown up and become a famous TV talk show
host, lives with his wife and son in the city. One day his wife, Anne, receives a videotape recording
their current home for several hours. They receive even more tapes with different recordings and
threatening drawings of an odd, curly haired little man and a rooster with its head cut off. George tries
to find out who is behind this and finds Majid. He accuses Majid of sending him the tapes as a threat;

I Stand Here Ironing
What do Betty from Pleasantville, June from Leave it to Beaver, and Donna Reed from The Donna
Reed Show all have in common? They all represent the image of the perfect housewife in the 1950s.
They represent women who gladly cooked, cleaned, dressed in pearls and wore high heals while
waiting for their all knowing husbands to come home. They represent women who can only find
fulfillment in male domination and nurturing maternal love. Tillie Olsen, as a single mother with four
children (204), provides readers with another view of women. Through the representation of the
narrator in I Stand Here Ironing, Olsen contradicts the image of the 50s ideal woman, a happy
housewife and a perfect mother.
This story begins with a request for ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
She was a single mother during Emily s initial years. Thus, instead of being able to spend time and
play with her 8 month old daughter, the narrator had to go out to look for a job as well as Emily s
missing father (199). She defied the image of a typical housewife. Instead of staying home to cook,
clean, and take care of her children, the narrator had to go out and get a job.
The narrator also made some clear mistakes in the raising of Emily. Due to circumstances that were
somewhat beyond her control, the narrator was not able to be particularly maternal with Emily. The
narrator had to leave Emily with Emily s father s family until she could raise enough money. However
this ended up taking a long time. The narrator states that when she finally came, I hardly knew her,
walking quick and nervous like her father, looking like her father, thin, and dressed in a shoddy red
that yellowed her skin and glared at the pockmarks. All the baby loveliness gone (199). This statement
shows that the narrator missed the crucial early years of her daughter s life. She no longer felt that
strong, ready connection that a mother feels with a child. She hardly knew her daughter.
The narrator was not a very maternally loving mother to Emily. The old man living in the back once
said in his gentle way: `You should smile at Emily more when you look at her (200). Unlike the mom
s portrayed in the 1950 s, the narrator could not

Nobel Prize Acceptance Speech And The Diary Of A Young Girl
Is conflict something one responds to in the present with constructive actions, or do prior efforts make
the difference between conflict and resolution? Some people react to spur of the moment situations in
unusual ways. In the Nobel Prize Acceptance Speech, by Elie Wiesel and The Diary of a Young Girl,
by Anne Frank. Elie s quote displays a phenomenon that beneficial actions are necessary to settle
similar disputes. Constructive measures like these are the stepping stones that shape the outlook on
certain circumstances. If someone is inclined to act upon conflict, it may not just result in unwanted
formalities, but also cause repetition of this act. The best way to respond to conflict is by staying
positive because it can improve health, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The Can Being Happy Change Your Personality article states, People with different personality traits
tend to experience different degrees of subjective well being . . .individuals who are more extraverted,
agreeable, conscientious, and emotionally stable tend to experience greater satisfaction with life, more
frequent positive affect, and less frequent negative affect (Christopher). The prior events to a time of
conflict can affect the way an individual reacts. Such prior events include, mood, emotion, and
behavior. What all of these three traits relate to is, personality. Someone with a high level of
personality or well being find more hope during conflict then others. The reason why is because more
jubilation and triumph is being sustained by the person that they look at the positive side preferably
more than the negative. The Diary of a Young Girl states, I don t think I ll ever feel at home in this
house, but that doesn t mean I hate it. It s more like being on vacation in some strange pension. Kind
of an odd way to look at life in hiding, but that s how things are (Frank). Anne has a cheerful
personality that no one can miss. She s always talking, happy, and looking for something to do.
Because of this Anne was able to see the brighter side of her situation and change it something of a
more positive quality. In the Can Being Happy Change Your Personality article, Jackie Christopher
states, In other words, happiness and the personality traits that go along with it may create a sort of
positive feedback loop, creating lasting changes in the personalities of people who experience a
positive sense of well being . Just because an individual does not have a superlative personality, it
doesn t mean that one can t be obtained. From getting involved in more positive solutions the
personality of that person will be improved. With having a higher success rate it can alter an attitude to

Cons Of Animal Conservationism
Third, as mentioned a few times in this paper, conservationism views animals as natural resources for
the consumption of humans. Consumption meant literally and figuratively, in that animals are valued
for their entertainment value at the zoo for humans to consume . In Constructing Consumables and
Consent , author Cathy B. Glenn discussed the two common and codependent corporate discursives in
factory farms, yet, also used by conservationists like PNM. First, doublespeak , a word of phrase that
deliberately obscures language to hide the harmful truth. Stakeholders, like PNM, are pros at coming
up with doublespeak to conceal the environmental damage they take part it for the continued
extraction of coal. Next, the creation of speaking animals to sell products, like the experience of the
zoo. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Of course, there are real dangers our planet faces of running out of vital resources to sustain the
human population. But, conservation of resources, frames itself in a positive light, and masks the
reality that conservationism is purely for human benefit and does not take into account the animals or
nature. Also, speaking animals, or zoo goers speaking for animals is problematic. For instance, amid
my visit to the zoo, I heard two zoo goers speak to each other about, Why is that Tazmanian Devil just
sleeping and the other replied, speaking for the animal, I am just taking a Saturday afternoon nap .
This is problematic because the animal is seen as happily taking a nap and it is not considered that
perhaps the animal is bored and does not want to be there. As conservationists, PNM would approve
of speaking animals because it distances the zoo goer from the harmful facts behind

Essay on Minearls Found around the World
Minerals are found in many areas of the world and some are more easily available than others. The
Earth provides natural resources as necessary minerals that can be used for construction, decoration,
gemstones, and many other important physical uses that improve the quality of life. There are minerals
that can be found and mined in natural solid form in small or large quantities and some that are found
in a mixed environment and must be refined. Much time and research has shown that some minerals
may be hazardous and many minerals are crucial to a greater life on earth. Chalcopyrite, copper, and

nuggets in pure state have been found in Arizona, abundant in Keweenaw Peninsula in northern
Michigan, and also found in Canada, Australia, China, Namibia, Bolivia, and Russia. Copper is mined

Disadvantages Of Infinitive Clauses
Section Three
3.1 Non finite clauses
(Quirk, Greenbaum, Geoffrey, Svartik, 1985), say that non finite clauses are regularly dependent. They
are more compact and less explicit than finite clauses. They are not marked for tense and modality,
and they frequently lack an explicit subject and subordinator. (17): I don t know what to write about.
3.1.1 Types of non finite clauses
1 Bare infinitive
Bare infinitive is the base form of the verb without to, this form of nonfinite clause has no tense. The
bare infinitive in general is very limited because it mostly occurs after verbs of causation, perception
and modal auxiliary. (18): I saw Jim leave. (See is a verb of perception) (19): I can tell the truth.
(Telling the truth is what occurs after modal auxiliary.
Bare infinitive in this case, functions as the complement of a verb, that is , it adds more information to
make the main verb understandable. (Biber, Johansson, Leech, Conrad, Finegan, 1999).
2 Infinitive clauses
Uninflected infinitive forms which comprise simply the base or stem of the verb with no added
inflection (such forms are frequently used after the so called infinitive particle to) Infinitive clauses
can have a range of syntactic roles a subject (20): The best thing would be for you to tell everybody. b
without subject (21): The best thing would be to tell everybody. c Direct object (22): He upset you
very much, and I hate to see that. (Quirk, Greenbaum, Geoffrey, Svartik, 1985)

Analysis Of The Book Kazuo Ishiguro
Kazuo Ishiguro, although still alive, has already changed the face of the field of literature. He has
done this through the variant style with which he writes and the way that his Japanese background
influences his writing (Sim). He has a unique writing style that is seldom mirrored in the works of
other writers in the same genre (Brownstein). Many critics note that he is always producing different
books that have such diverse plots which proves that the most exciting thing about his work is just this
refusal to stand still as a writer, this desire to push the envelope (Sim). Kazuo Ishiguro is a writer who,
like many, enjoys exploring a certain topic or emotion, and he especially liked writing about how
regrets and memories affect people throughout life (Taylor). His utilization of memories and regrets
helps him make deep meaningful characters who allow people to sympathize with their causes
(Taylor). Kazuo Ishiguro s most important contribution to literature is the variety he adds to his field

The Odyssey
The Odyssey
In Homer s epic, The Odyssey, each culture treats strangers and guests with distinct differences from
every other culture. One of the most hospitable cultures was that of the ancient Greeks, exemplified in
Homer s The Odyssey by both gracious hosts and guests. In Greece and The Odyssey, not only was
good hospitality etiquette expected, but the added pressure that if they didn t treat their guests with
respect the gods would punish them further compelled excellent manners. The Odyssey illustrates the
proper etiquette when dealing with guests. In Homer s ancient Greece their are many steps that a host
must follow to complete proper guest host relations, these steps aren t enforced but are expected.

As a guest, Odysseus is very selfish and inconsiderate towards his hosts. Throughout the duration of
Odysseus absence, the suitors are treated well, and in response to this, they refuse to leave when
asked. The suitors are fed and housed, and after a number of years they overstay their welcome. In
response to this Telemachus, prompted by Athena, informs the suitors that his father is returning home
and they are all to vacate Odysseus home. The suitors, in turn, ignore him and continue to eat drink
and be merry, at the cost of Telemachus and Penelope s household. What are the consequences of
these actions taken by the suitors? Although the primary consequence is their death, they also lose the
hand of Penelope. None of them are able to pass the test of stringing the bow of Odysseus except
Odysseus himself. This is followed by the main consequence of the suitors execution at the hands of
Odysseus and Telemachus. By not respecting the hospitality given by Penelope, they set the stage for
their own deaths. This is quite possibly a reference to the fact that they saw hospitality as a way to
honor the gods; giving hospitality to a stranger was the same as offering it to a god. Zeus being the
god of hospitality, one of the primary ways to worship this aspect of Zeus godliness was to be
hospitable to strangers and travelers. A

Macy s Marketing Strategy And Innovation On The National...
Macy s is a company that is embedded in our national pass times and has become more than just a
retailing store. Its long history of retailing is over 150 years old. It was founded in 1843 by Rowland
Hussey Macy in Harverhill, Massachusetts and was not originally a retailing store. Originally,
Rowland targeted the mill industry and it employees and opened four dry good stores. Unfortunately
early success did not come for Macy as the company s first stores actually all failed. Luckily, Mr.
Macy was a resilient man who learned from his early mistakes and realized that his target market for
this type of store was not mill employees but a higher end clientele. He opened his new store R.H.
MACY on Sixth Ave between 13th and 14th Street with the trademark star flying high. Mr. Macy had
used his tattoo that he had on his arm when he worked in Nantucket on a whaling ship, the Emily
Morgan. This was a success for Mr. Macy and as his company grew so did his tactics and innovation
on bringing in new customers. He was the first to implement theme exhibits in his stories as well as
illuminating window displays which was new tactics in the late 1900 s. He was also the first store to
use publicity devices to bring in new customers and since they did not have modern communication
he used Santa Claus as a public figure to draw in customers. Unfortunately Mr. Macy would not see
the 20th century and passed away. After his death, the company had another explosive growth cycle as

Blanche Dubois Victim
In the play A Streetcar Named Desire the character of Blanche DuBois is very complex and has many
different aspects of it. Blanche DuBois a serious alcoholic has had a very simple life as she has never
had to work or have any struggles of life thrown at her till she grows up and loses her family estate
and also has her husband kill himself. In the story, she starts off with snarky comments to her sister
and her feeling like she is all that. Throughout the story her life turns sideways as she meets a man she
actually likes and not one who she just wants to sleep with. Blanche can be looked at as a victim of the
story from many sides but can also be seen as a victimizer in some aspects. In the story Blanche is
easily a victim to all the cruel acts society has done to her. In the story she faces hardships of her life
early on when her husband kills himself after she calls him disgusting . She was never able to get over
it and she said herself she always depended on the kindness of strangers for the rest of her life

Confucianism Research Paper
Confucianism Research Project Confucianism has easily been influential in the development of the
Chinese state through history. In fact, the core ideals of Confucianism have evolved. Despite the harsh
repression of Confucianism by Marxist revolutionaries during the second half of the twentieth century,
Confucian values continues to be influential in Chinese society and recently, Confucian political
philosophy has resurfaced again. In addition, the political ideas and social ethics of Confucianism can
provide the basis for a new, functional form of government in China. Confucianism can be a viable

(Adler 5) In fact, politicized Confucianism was used to support conservative agendas, such as absolute
obedience of elders and strict subjugation of women to men, during the Ming and Qing dynasties.
Furthermore, the Marxist revolutionary government of Communist China dealt with Confucianism
negatively. In the early 20th century, both before and after the fall of the Qing dynasty, Confucianism
was harshly criticized by the New Culture Movement. (Adler 6) The assumption of this movement
was that virtually everything about China s traditional culture was holding it back from becoming a
modern nation state. In fact, Confucianism was high on the list of culprits in this blanket rejection of
traditional China. The New Culture Movement criticized Confucianism for its age and gender based
hierarchies, which had become quite rigid during the Ming and Qing dynasties. Communist thinkers
also joined this anti Confucian trend, so by the time of the Communist victory in 1949 Confucianism
in mainland China seemed virtually dead. (Adler 7) After the Communists took power their anti
Confucian rhetoric only increased. In addition to their professed opposition to social hierarchies, they
viewed Confucianism as a feudal ideology. (Adler 8) Daniel Bell s proposal is in response to Jiang

The Current Educational Reform Of Continuous Improvement
Statement of the Problem
The research problem. To properly construct a meaningful purpose of the big picture for this reform,
digging into past history is crucial for me to get a clear understanding. What was going on in the
American educational system that would warrant a reform movement? How did any reform evolve?
Why a gradual reform towards continuous improvement? These critical questions build my case and
bring meaning to the current educational reform of continuous improvement to research. This chapter
will provide a purpose as to why this study is needed.
According to Murphy and Adams, the major reform occurred in the late 1960s. The Soviets were

With the intention of making the necessary adjustments in education, there was an appeal towards
organizations that had been successful. As mentioned previously, our education system was not
measuring up and it appears that is when every. The business sector appeared to have been ahead of
expanding their performances; naturally, educators gravitated towards the use and adoption of their
proven strategies as a remedy. (Lloyd, Ramsey Bell, 1997)
As stated by Tyack and Cuban, reforming the public schools has long been a favorite way of
improving not just education but society. (Tyack and Cuban, 1995, p1) The push to reform schools has
been rooted in increasing student performance in the hope of boosting economy and to please the
citizens. (Murphy and Adams, 1998)
Up to the present time, The Baldrige Approach is endorsed by several school systems all over the
country. This approach provides a framework to identify strengths and weaknesses and allows for
necessary changes to take place as it relates to improving an organization. In education, its
effectiveness is not yet proven although there are several school districts that have attained the
Baldrige Award.

The Physical Importance Of Outdoor Recreation
Outdoor recreation, but more specifically a place attachment that can be associated with outdoor
recreation, has had a huge impact on my life. Throughout my childhood, my family and I would
constantly travel to many outdoor recreation locations including Myrtle Beach, Pinery Provincial
Park, and St. Jacobs Farmers Market. These places hold special meaning and an emotional bond for
me, because I associate them with youthfulness and happiness. While everybody views place
differently, people form emotional attachments and beliefs of these places based on different
specifications. According to Williams and Stewart (1998), individuals may feel a special connection to
a place based on its social or personal history, scenic beauty, or spiritual meaning (p. 22). To truly
understand the meaning of place and the importance of outdoor recreation, I recently took part in four
separate experiential activities at St. Jacobs Farmers Market in Waterloo, Ontario. After partaking in
four outdoor experiential episodes at St. Jacobs Farmers Market, I decided to create a time capsule of
my experience for people to open fifty years from now. The time capsule included post cards, photos
of my experience, and a few physical components that I found represented the market well and
represented the importance of outdoor recreation. One of the physical components was a maple sugar
candy to represent how maple was an important staple to Canadians, and how procuring maple syrup

Reflection Paper On Perseverance
Research Reflection
Before I began researching I was really passionate about the ability to persevere and I knew I wanted
to talk about perseverance and explain why it was such an essential characteristic to have. I especially
wanted to find examples of many others that had to persevere to get through their own tough times.
But when I originally started researching my topic I did not exactly have anything in mind about what
I was exactly looking for. This was mainly due to that I had the ideas in my head but did not know
how to put those in a way that I could deliver it for the whole class to understand. So as I began
researching I focused on just using perseverance in school, like not giving up after not getting a
concept the first time. But after looking through a few articles I found many examples of when
perseverance was used in other ways, such as building things for society or ways in which one can be
successful. This then broadened my perspective on perseverance and showed me the benefits of it.
The Grit: the Power of Passion and Perseverance. Ted Talk video was extremely helpful for my
research since it gave me numerous amounts of examples of how the main thing that distinguishes
kids for who they are is perseverance. I found out that one s intelligence quality is not determined by
their test scores, but rather it is determined by how they improve on making those test scores the best
they can be. Most of the things in the Ted Talk I had heard about before or

This essay is aimed to critically appraise the article about comparing the effect of glucosamine and
glucosamine with alendronate in symptomatic relieve of degenerative knee joint disease (Hamid Reza
Arti Mohammad Ebrahim Azemi, 2012, p. 87 92). The study talked about the Degenerative Joint
Disease (DJD) or osteoarthritis, which is the most common destructive joint disease and causes of
chronic disability in human beings. Osteoarthritis is often caused by aging, frequent use of knee joints
or obesity. People with osteoarthritis are normally treated by glucosamine. On the other hand,
alendronate is used to treat osteoporosis. People with osteoporosis will have brittle or fragile bones
due to deficiency in calcium or vitamin D. As both osteoarthritis and osteoporosis have higher chances
of being found in elderly patients, it might not be an unusual thing for them to exist together in the
patient at the same time. Combining glucosamine and alendronate together in the treatment may bring
out unexpected therapeutic benefits. The objective of the study is to find out the differences between
the effects of glucosamine alone and combination between glucosamine and alendronate
administration in relieving knee degeneration. The study hypothesised that combination of
glucosamine and alendronate will be more effective in treating knee degeneration.
To test the efficacy of glucosamine, a double blind randomised controlled trial (RCT) was set up. A

Method of cooling Air cooling
A. Emission test
Emission analysis was carried out in an authorized pollution testing center. Test was conducted in two
sections. First emission characteristics of the vehicle was studied. In the next section oxyhydrogen kit
was connected to the vehicle and same procedure was followed. A comparison between before and
after connection of the oxyhydrogen kit is tabulated in table 3.
1) Carbon monoxide
Carbon monoxide is one of the main exhaust gas component in case IC engines. It is generated mainly
due to the incomplete combustion of fuel, when enough oxygen is not available, two carbon molecules
combines with a single oxygen molecule and carbon monoxide is thus formed. It is colourless,
odourless, and tasteless gas that is slightly less dense than air. It is toxic to humans and animals when
encountered in higher concentrations.
When oxyhydrogen kit is connected, hydrocarbons might have undergoing complete combustion or
tend to follow complete combustion by the aid oxygen which is a part of oxyhydrogen. Also the
chance for increased combustion duration also exists.

idealize history, believing that modern day society and all it has created is good, better than the past,

internet protocol that allows files to be distributed via an internet connection. The use of BitTorrent
itself is a perfectly legal and legitimate process of downloading certain files. For example, if someone
wanted to obtain a large free to use file like a Linux distribution, BitTorrent provides a fast and

A swarm is a group of computers that all have the desired torrent file available for downloading.
Computers enter the swarm by accessing a torrent file (file extension is generally .torrent) via a torrent
client such as BitTorrent, uTorrent, Vuze, Transmission, or many others. Trackers are located inside
torrent files that keep track of connected computers. The tracker communicates with the other
computers in the swarm and shares their corresponding IP addresses with everyone in the swarm so
the computers can connect to one another. The tracker does not handle any of the data being
transmitted, it merely provides a medium for the computers to keep track of which computers are in
the swarm. In other words, when an individual wants to download a file, first they download a torrent
file and access it via a client that contains a tracker allowing them to download the file from not one
but many people at one time. The actual file being transferred is not transferred as one large file, but is
broken down into many pieces when it is downloaded. After a computer has downloaded a piece of
the file, they are then able to upload that piece to others in the swarm. Thus, computers in the swarm
are downloading and uploading to and from each other simultaneously. Once the computer has all the
pieces of the file, the client then assembles the pieces so the file is operable. BitTorrent clients can

Case Study On Osteoporosis
PART 1
INTRODUCTION
Our group has been given the task for subject Anatomy and Physiology to do a research about
disease. The title of our study is Osteoporosis. The aim of our assignment is to find the information
about the clinical condition that change the normal structures of the bones and how the disease affect
our daily life.
Osteoporosis is a disease that arise when our normal structures of the bone changes as it becomes
fragile and break easily. One interesting fact is that, almost one in two women and one in five men
over the age of 50 will break a bone, mainly due to poor bone health( An Introduction to Osteoporosis,
n.d.).
Osteoporosis is common for post menopausal women. However men, younger women, children and
pregnant women can also be affected. To simply put it,osteoporosis affects all individuals and it is a
part of normal aging although some can develop at an earlier age. However, osteoporosis cannot be
cured but the progression can be delayed or even prevented.

remodeling unit normally couples the bone resorption and bone formation. Research by Teitelbaum

remodelling process, resorption of extra cellular matrices by osteoclasts is followed by osteoblastic

(Riggs et al., 2002). However, due to some of listed factors mentioned above, these processes turn out

The Characteristics Of Oligopolies
An oligopoly is a market structure characterized by; few firms either standardized or differentiated
products, and difficult entry. A key characteristic of oligopolies is that each firm can affect the market,
making each firm s choices dependent on the choices of the other firms. These are known as
interdependent. Oligopolies are made up of a small number of mutually interdependent firms. Each
firm must take into account the expected reaction of other firms.
The importance of interdependence is that it leads to strategic behaviour. Strategic behavior is the
behavior that occurs when what is best for one company depends upon what the other company does,
and vice verse. Oligopolistic behavior includes both ruthless competition and cooperation.
Oligopolies can be collusive or non collusive. Firms may engage in strategic decision making where
each firm takes explicit account of a rival s expected response to a decision it is making

If one firm cuts price, other firms will follow suit because they don t want to lose market share.

A Brief Note On The Electronic Health Records
Nursing is a very interesting field because of the fact that it never stays constant; new changes occur

(RTLS) Real Time Locating Systems
One other interesting technology available in the health care field is (RTLS) real time locating
systems; these systems use ID tags or ultrasound to automatically locate people or medical equipment
for inventory purpose and for easy access. It can also be used to monitor patient in mental health
facility in order to ensure their safety. The RTLS is an important tool in the healthcare system as it can
locate employees or patients at any giving time in case of an emergency at any given time. It can be
beneficial in finding any misplaced piece of equipment to avoid panic and misused of time. One can
argue that the RTLS can be viewed as a treat to privacy when it is used to monitor patients or
employees, however as soon as the benefit outgrow the loss of privacy it is considered acceptable due
to the fact that the information retrieved is now shared with unauthorized people. Similar portable
devices like tablet computers and mobile charts allow the healthcare staff to have access to patient s
information and medications at hand that way they can avoid the countless trips for supplies and
medications. As a result they have more time to focus on the patient s clinical needs.

  • 2. Case Study, Marc Chagall Discuss how the environment and other influences, for example personal beliefs, have shaped the work of at least one artist you have studied this year. Refer to work done by this artist to substantiate your statements. Marc Chagall was a Russian/French artist who was born into a poor family of Hassidic Jews on the 7th July 1887. Throughout his working life he was based in Russia from 1906 1910, then he moved to France for four more years before moving back to Russia and Soviet Belarus for eight years. Chagall was strongly influenced, but not limited to, movements such as Cubism, Fauvism and Surrealism. These movements are demonstrated in his work through the geometric shapes, his use of colour and the seemingly random placement of people ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This is because of the circle in the middle of the artwork joining the man, the goat and the background. This artwork is a surreal representation of the town of Vitebsk where Chagall grew up. Chagall is trying to comment of the relationship of people with the land, which is demonstrated by the man looking at the goat as an equal and also by the woman milking a goat. As there are in many of Chagall s works, there is a spiritual reference in this artwork. The goat and the Star of David are the symbolic references. The goat is a great symbol of sacrifice for the Jewish religion. The colours in the artwork are reminiscent of the circus or other flamboyant events. The man could represent the ringmaster. This could all show the way in which man lives in harmony with animals and the environment. The large circle in the middle of the page could symbolise the sun and the all the chaos surrounding it could show that the earth and everything on it is dependent on the sun for life. The bright colours could also symbolise the fake world, opposed to that of the world when Chagall grew up. In The Green Violinist (1923 24) we see a green man wearing a purple coat, which is composed of geometrical shapes. He is placed in the centre of the artwork and is standing on or floating in the air above a couple of houses playing a violin. The fact that he is the only object that is coloured brightly in secondary colours compared to the rest of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Mob s Target Nicely Conveys The Premise Of This Crime... The title MOB S TARGET nicely conveys the premise of this crime thriller. The plot focuses on an insecure and fearful accountant who testifies against a major mobster, sending him to prison. The mob wants revenge and she s the target. She enters a Witness Protection program, but an enforcer tracks her down. The goal of survival is clear and the stakes are life and death. There are several themes incorporated into the script about trust, revenge, justice, survival, and second chances. The script also poses some intriguing moral questions, especially for the police chief Joe. He has to struggle with the moral argument of family vs. justice. He clearly has a moral dilemma. With that said, this is a plotline that has been done before, but ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The plot also offers another coincidence with the idea that Megan s father was murdered and that Brown investigated it. Again, too many coincidences cause one to question the credibility of the plot. In this case, it s not clear how Megan s dad being murdered is relevant, or how it connects to the plotline. The backstory is left dangling for the audience. It s a serious backstory to have a parent murdered; yet there s no payoff for the reveal. Normally, a backstory has some emotional affect on the current storyline. For example, if Megan were home when her dad was killed and she was unable to protect and save him, then this could be a relevant inner conflict for her. She could carry the guilt about her father and now she has to learn to protect herself. Or in another example, if Megan were home when her dad was murdered, maybe she saw the killer and now years later he reappears. Regardless, the idea of the connection to Brown isn t clear and it s suggested to eliminate this connection unless there s a solid link to the present day storyline and the past. The opening sets the tone for a mobster story. It establishes that Nick is deadly. However, the scene isn t as tense or suspenseful as it could be. One reason for this is that the audience isn t emotionally invested in the owner of the bookshop and the dialogue and action doesn t create compelling enough tension. The other concern about the tone is that, in ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. An Example About Prostate Cancer If we take a look at an example about prostate cancer, with the data collected by Hastie, Tibshirani, Friedman in The Elements of Statistical Learning [2] and view the scatterplot in figure 1.1, we can see that the dependent variable, the log of the prostate specific antigen (lpsa) has a strong positive correlation particularly with lcavol (the log cancer volume) and lcp (the log of capsular penetration) with weaker but still strong correlations with the other dependent variables, log prostate weight (lweight), age, log of the amount of benign prostatic hyperplasia (lbph), and percent of Gleason scores 4 or 5 (pgg45), but not the svi (seminal vesicle invasion) and gleason (gleason score) as these are categorical variables [2]. Below figures 1.2 and 1.3 were fit with all variables and figures 1.4 and 1.5 were simplified by removing variables that had high p values until I felt that the model was better improved and they were fit thereafter. When we plot the fitted values against the residuals, if there is linearity, we should get an even spread around the line at 0. If we look at figures 1.2 and 1.4, for which the R coding can be found in the appendix below (section 7), we can see that they both seem to have linearity with figure 1.2 having possible outliers further away from the line and figure 1.4 having a more even spread. Taking a look at figure 1.3 we can see that there is a particularly good fit along the middle but the tails have fairly large variation, suggesting a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Yorkville City Tax Case Study As the city manager of Yorkville city I have been presented with a 1% tax income proposal on behalf of the members of the city council in order to accumulate around 1 million dollars yearly to decrease the current deficit that the city has of $650,000.The city council is asking me to hand out flyers to promote this tax to the voters in order to pass the proposal with the city residents support in the next coming elections. I would personally analyze the proposal and the reasons why there is such a bad deficit of $650,000 and I would also find the specific measures taken by the city council or previous city officials to work on the issue. The information should be gathered in different areas such as accountability, new city programs and expenses ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... On this specific case the dichotomy will involved the request made by the seven members of the city council who are usually elected every two years and whose responsibility is to rectified my current position. The support that the city council is asking for seems to be purely political, and the council also expects my full support while presenting face on this 1 % income tax proposal in front of city residents. That is a dichotomy where a public server like me gets frequently involved. However, Frederickson (2015) also states that as a public administrator there is an inherent duty of policy legitimacy and an ethical obligation to protect the interests of the underrepresentated. It is also expected to administer city affairs according to the law, and bureaucratic standards of efficiency as well as fairness (Frederickson,pg.20). If the council 1 % increase tax proposal does not benefit the majority of the city s population, I would personally try to create a plan to address the deficit by proposing a plan to evaluate, eliminate or preserve city programs. I would present this plan in the next meeting and I would also politely express that I do not think it is appropriate for me to go around door to door handing out ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Topic On Alcopops And Teen Binge Drinking Introduction In this report I will be discussing the topic on Alcopops and teen binge drinking teen binge drinking. Binge drinking is drinking large amounts of alcohol for the purpose of getting drunk. Teenagers generally do this on a weekend and the drink of choice is the sweet flavoured Alcopops. These drinks come in a variety of cool colour and flavours and are marketed at the younger target group Binge drinking is a widely used term, and is the act of drinking heavily over a short period of time or over several days. Alcopops are the only alcoholic drink whose popularity declines with age. Alcopops begin introducing young people to alcohol at a young age, before they move onto other types of alcoholic drinks, such as wine and beer. 1 What are Alcopops Alcopops are pre mixed, spirit based drinks. They have their own category known as the ready to drink or RTD segment of the alcohol market. Alcopops were first sold in Australia in 1995 and the Alcopop market has expanded rapidly since then. Today, there are about 400 Alcopop products available in Australia. They usually contain high levels of sweeteners, colouring, and flavouring and resemble soft drinks in the way they taste and in their appearance. Alcopops have an average alcohol content of around five percent, which is stronger than normal strength beers. Alcopops are much more popular in the younger age groups and are the drink of choice for over half of 12 14 year olds. Alcopops have cooler names like Carnival ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. A Comparison Of Alone Together By Arthur Schwartz And... This piece is a jazz standard that was composed by Arthur Schwartz and Howard Dietz. Schwartz was born in Brooklyn, New York on November 25, 1900 and died on September 3, 1984. He began playing piano and harmonica at a very young age and also wrote silent films at the age of fourteen. Dietz was born on September 8,1896 and died on July 30, 1983. He was a publicist and lyrists. Him and Schwartz first started working together when they teamed up for a Broadway show in 1929. They composed Alone Together in 1932 for the Broadway musical Flying Colors (Schwartz composing the music and Dietz the lyrics). This particular piece is considered a ballad, meaning that the tune tells a story. Ballads come from the French chanson and they are often made up of thirteen lines with an ABABBCBC form. It was originally used for dance tunes, but in the nineteenth century it was used for slow tunes. The actual form for Alone Together is AABA. The significant thing about the first two A sections, is that it is fourteen bars long which is very uncommon when it comes to American song writing. In common song writing, each A section is only eight bars long. The bridge of the tune also known as the B section is quite normal. It is the standard eight bar length which leads to the last eight bars of the third A section. The tune is written in key of D minor, but, instead of playing a D minor in the thirteenth measure of the last A section, Schwartz decides to play a D major which is called a Picardy ... • 8. Contemporary Theories Of Subcultures A subculture is considered a group of dominant people or culture that has been defined in its norms, values, and interests, which are often inconsistent to those of large groups. (Bohm Vogel, 2011) Subcultures were created when a group of people that share the same beliefs or circumstances finds themselves cut off from society. (Bohm Vogel, 2011) These groups are distinct from those of the majority and are held by a group into a broader society. Most subcultures are recognized by their age of its members, or by race, ethnicity, class, gender, and their qualities that may be aesthetic, religious, occupational, political, and sexual or a combination of these factors. However, people create subcultures as a way to feel accepted while also signifying that they are different from other groups. The subculture theory focuses on consistent distinctiveness, identity, commitment, and autonomy. The first subculture group I would like to recognize is the police they are law enforcement officers with specific types of attitudes, beliefs, and behaviors. I place them in the subculture category because of they spend their time dealing with crime; therefore they tend to be judgmental towards members of the public viewing them as untrustworthy and potentially hostile; therefore, the public view the police as being unreliable and abusive as well. The police depend on their cohorts to back them up, and mostly teamwork to apprehend criminals; therefore, it creates a dynamic of police ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 9. Integrating Quotes Into Paper Tips on Introducing Quotes General Principles Writers use quotations for a variety of purposes: to argue with another author s definition of a term, to provide statistical evidence or testimony to validate a claim; to present the reader with a statement we wish to refute or discuss in detail. If writers overdo and include too many quotations in a research essay, readers will form the negative impression that the authors of those sources are more authoritative than the writer of the research paper. Often the voices of those authorities drown out the writer s voice, in a sense taking over authorship of the paper. Writers should use direct quotations only when the source s words are particularly relevant, powerful, and/or an extremely ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... . . ( page ). • 10. Analysis Of The Film Cache ( French For Hidden And Racial... Introduction This essay aims to analyze the representation of characters in the film Caché (French for hidden , 2005) and the racial issues between the colonizer and the colonized through the psychoanalysis of colonialism and post colonialism. I will first give a synopsis of the film. Directed by Michael Haneke, Caché presents the story of a bourgeois, middle aged French man, George, who receives anonymous tapes. This makes him recall his childhood memory of an Algerian boy, Majid. Majid s parents worked in George s house but died in the massacre on 17th Oct., 1961 when the French police killed more than 200 Algerians. After Majid lost his parents, George s parents originally planned to adopt him. However, as George was the only child in his family, he was afraid of letting Majid enter the family. He set up a lie by saying his father wanted Majid to kill a rooster. George then claimed to his parents that Majid did this to scare him; therefore George s parents sent Majid to an orphanage. About forty years later, George, who has grown up and become a famous TV talk show host, lives with his wife and son in the city. One day his wife, Anne, receives a videotape recording their current home for several hours. They receive even more tapes with different recordings and threatening drawings of an odd, curly haired little man and a rooster with its head cut off. George tries to find out who is behind this and finds Majid. He accuses Majid of sending him the tapes as a threat; ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 11. I Stand Here Ironing What do Betty from Pleasantville, June from Leave it to Beaver, and Donna Reed from The Donna Reed Show all have in common? They all represent the image of the perfect housewife in the 1950s. They represent women who gladly cooked, cleaned, dressed in pearls and wore high heals while waiting for their all knowing husbands to come home. They represent women who can only find fulfillment in male domination and nurturing maternal love. Tillie Olsen, as a single mother with four children (204), provides readers with another view of women. Through the representation of the narrator in I Stand Here Ironing, Olsen contradicts the image of the 50s ideal woman, a happy housewife and a perfect mother. Thus, instead of being able to spend time and play with her 8 month old daughter, the narrator had to go out to look for a job as well as Emily s missing father (199). She defied the image of a typical housewife. Instead of staying home to cook, clean, and take care of her children, the narrator had to go out and get a job. The narrator also made some clear mistakes in the raising of Emily. Due to circumstances that were somewhat beyond her control, the narrator was not able to be particularly maternal with Emily. The narrator had to leave Emily with Emily s father s family until she could raise enough money. However this ended up taking a long time. The narrator states that when she finally came, I hardly knew her, walking quick and nervous like her father, looking like her father, thin, and dressed in a shoddy red that yellowed her skin and glared at the pockmarks. All the baby loveliness gone (199). This statement shows that the narrator missed the crucial early years of her daughter s life. She no longer felt that strong, ready connection that a mother feels with a child. She hardly knew her daughter. The narrator was not a very maternally loving mother to Emily. The old man living in the back once said in his gentle way: `You should smile at Emily more when you look at her (200). Unlike the mom s portrayed in the 1950 s, the narrator could not ... Nobel Prize Acceptance Speech And The Diary Of A Young Girl Is conflict something one responds to in the present with constructive actions, or do prior efforts make the difference between conflict and resolution? Some people react to spur of the moment situations in unusual ways. In the Nobel Prize Acceptance Speech, by Elie Wiesel and The Diary of a Young Girl, by Anne Frank. Elie s quote displays a phenomenon that beneficial actions are necessary to settle similar disputes. The prior events to a time of conflict can affect the way an individual reacts. Such prior events include, mood, emotion, and behavior. What all of these three traits relate to is, personality. Someone with a high level of personality or well being find more hope during conflict then others. The reason why is because more jubilation and triumph is being sustained by the person that they look at the positive side preferably more than the negative. The Diary of a Young Girl states, I don t think I ll ever feel at home in this house, but that doesn t mean I hate it. It s more like being on vacation in some strange pension. • 18. Disadvantages Of Infinitive Clauses Section Three 3.1 Non finite clauses (Quirk, Greenbaum, Geoffrey, Svartik, 1985), say that non finite clauses are regularly dependent. They are more compact and less explicit than finite clauses. They are not marked for tense and modality, and they frequently lack an explicit subject and subordinator. (17): I don t know what to write about. 3.1.1 Types of non finite clauses 1 Bare infinitive Bare infinitive is the base form of the verb without to, this form of nonfinite clause has no tense. The bare infinitive in general is very limited because it mostly occurs after verbs of causation, perception and modal auxiliary. (18): I saw Jim leave. (See is a verb of perception) (19): I can tell the truth. (Telling the truth is what occurs after modal auxiliary. Bare infinitive in this case, functions as the complement of a verb, that is , it adds more information to make the main verb understandable. (Biber, Johansson, Leech, Conrad, Finegan, 1999). 2 Infinitive clauses Uninflected infinitive forms which comprise simply the base or stem of the verb with no added inflection (such forms are frequently used after the so called infinitive particle to) Infinitive clauses can have a range of syntactic roles a subject (20): The best thing would be for you to tell everybody. b without subject (21): The best thing would be to tell everybody. c Direct object (22): He upset you very much, and I hate to see that. He has a unique writing style that is seldom mirrored in the works of other writers in the same genre (Brownstein). Many critics note that he is always producing different books that have such diverse plots which proves that the most exciting thing about his work is just this refusal to stand still as a writer, this desire to push the envelope (Sim). Kazuo Ishiguro is a writer who, like many, enjoys exploring a certain topic or emotion, and he especially liked writing about how regrets and memories affect people throughout life (Taylor). His utilization of memories and regrets helps him make deep meaningful characters who allow people to sympathize with their causes (Taylor). Kazuo Ishiguro s most important contribution to literature is the variety he adds to his field by incorporating his Japanese heritage, his twist endings that surprise readers, the emotions of memories and regret to allow for realistic characters, and his diverse range of writing. The suitors are fed and housed, and after a number of years they overstay their welcome. In response to this Telemachus, prompted by Athena, informs the suitors that his father is returning home and they are all to vacate Odysseus home. The suitors, in turn, ignore him and continue to eat drink and be merry, at the cost of Telemachus and Penelope s household. What are the consequences of these actions taken by the suitors? Although the primary consequence is their death, they also lose the hand of Penelope. None of them are able to pass the test of stringing the bow of Odysseus except Odysseus himself. This is followed by the main consequence of the suitors execution at the hands of Odysseus and Telemachus. By not respecting the hospitality given by Penelope, they set the stage for their own deaths. This is quite possibly a reference to the fact that they saw hospitality as a way to honor the gods; giving hospitality to a stranger was the same as offering it to a god. Zeus being the god of hospitality, one of the primary ways to worship this aspect of Zeus godliness was to be hospitable to strangers and travelers. A ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Sexual Identity Exploration And Commitment The very first item in the Measure of Sexual Identity Exploration and Commitment asks to evaluate on a six point Likert type scale ranging from 1 to 6 how firm of a sense I have of what my sexual needs are, penciling in a 4 where 6 delineate very characteristic, I begin to think of how much certainty is in my beliefs about sex and sexuality while knowing that the survey questions to follow will surely not be easy to answer with an absolute degree of confidence. Do I know what my preferences for expressing myself sexually truly are? Another 4, but not a surprise; if I already admitted to not having the firmest sense of what my sexual needs are, how could I come to express preferences not wholly defined in my own mind. I may have not purposefully identified what the whole of my sexual values are, but I know what is at the core and cannot say to never have clearly identified the basis for the most primal of them and successively built upon those in relation to personal experiences juxtaposed to those socially enforced morals I was exposed to in youth in and out of the parental household. What truly surprised me as a worked my way through the survey questions, was the immediacy of the rebuttal to the entry my sexual orientation is not clear to me. Though a heterosexual in general practice, currently involved in a monogamous heterosexual relationship between cisgender individuals, I am not a stranger to displays of affection of what could be considered of the homosexual kind; never have I been involved in what I would define as a romantic relationship with another man, but I have been more intimate with my close male friends than what I have seen other be, sharing kisses of affection and friendly love without later engaging in more physical demonstrations of romantic love. Like all, I d like to think, I am able to appreciate and express friendly love, valuing it greatly as a component of my social life, and not limiting the extent of such emotion to a particular gender; in the expression of this love, I find enjoyable the connection made by something as innocuous as a hug, but possibly because of my upbringing in Italy, I further appreciate the intimate kisses shared on ... In the next section oxyhydrogen kit was connected to the vehicle and same procedure was followed. A comparison between before and after connection of the oxyhydrogen kit is tabulated in table 3. 1) Carbon monoxide Carbon monoxide is one of the main exhaust gas component in case IC engines. It is generated mainly due to the incomplete combustion of fuel, when enough oxygen is not available, two carbon molecules combines with a single oxygen molecule and carbon monoxide is thus formed. It is colourless, odourless, and tasteless gas that is slightly less dense than air. It is toxic to humans and animals when encountered in higher concentrations. When oxyhydrogen kit is connected, hydrocarbons might have undergoing complete combustion or tend to follow complete combustion by the aid oxygen which is a part of oxyhydrogen. Also the chance for increased combustion duration also exists. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 31. One Laptop Per Child Analysis Technology as we know it now and how we knew it yesteryear is a symbolic metaphor for racial tensions and the way it is idealized in time and space, because it ultimately shapes the social construction of race (67). The chapter challenges the linear timeframe in which people typically idealize history, believing that modern day society and all it has created is good, better than the past, and ultimately, progressive. This makes technology and the nostalgia of in need others to be saved (62) mythical and ethnocentric because it assumes and stereotypes all other non technological countries as struggling, unhappy, and envious of the west s technological savviness. This may be because, particularly, westerners, have a very narrow minded and biased idea of technology and that it is overall good, however those who do not utilize it as much as we do, may have better hindsight and clearer visions of its truths. Overall, technology is related to tension between global capitalism and philanthropy in the developing world, which may be why some choose to opt out of it rather than be excluded from its use, and the need to save countries with its phenomena is offensive and ignorant ... • 32. Analysis Of Bittorrent, A Nightmare For Copyright... BitTorrent, a nightmare for copyright enforcement agencies Using BitTorrent has become a popular and effective way of downloading files over the internet. BitTorrent is a peer to peer file sharing (P2P) internet protocol that allows files to be distributed via an internet connection. The use of BitTorrent itself is a perfectly legal and legitimate process of downloading certain files. For example, if someone wanted to obtain a large free to use file like a Linux distribution, BitTorrent provides a fast and effective means to download the file legally. Another legal use of BitTorrent would be companies like Blizzard who use custom BitTorrent clients to distribute and update their games to avoid overloading their servers. The main ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... A swarm is a group of computers that all have the desired torrent file available for downloading. Computers enter the swarm by accessing a torrent file (file extension is generally .torrent) via a torrent client such as BitTorrent, uTorrent, Vuze, Transmission, or many others. Trackers are located inside torrent files that keep track of connected computers. The tracker communicates with the other computers in the swarm and shares their corresponding IP addresses with everyone in the swarm so the computers can connect to one another. The tracker does not handle any of the data being transmitted, it merely provides a medium for the computers to keep track of which computers are in the swarm. In other words, when an individual wants to download a file, first they download a torrent file and access it via a client that contains a tracker allowing them to download the file from not one but many people at one time. The actual file being transferred is not transferred as one large file, but is broken down into many pieces when it is downloaded. After a computer has downloaded a piece of the file, they are then able to upload that piece to others in the swarm. Thus, computers in the swarm are downloading and uploading to and from each other simultaneously. Once the computer has all the pieces of the file, the client then assembles the pieces so the file is operable. BitTorrent clients can also utilize ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Thus, bone modeling and remodeling preserve skeletal function throughout human life. The bone remodeling unit normally couples the bone resorption and bone formation. Research by Teitelbaum and Ross (2003) indicated that, the bone remodeling process regulates the gain and loss of bone mineral density in the human skeleton and directly influenced bone strength and vice versa. In bone remodelling process, resorption of extra cellular matrices by osteoclasts is followed by osteoblastic invasion of the cavity, and subsequent secretion of extra cellular matrix that is then mineralized (Ducy et al., 2000). These two processes, which together are called bone remodeling, occur continuously (Riggs et al., 2002). However, due to some of listed factors mentioned above, these processes turn out to be distracted and cauce osteoporosis (Rouhi, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 34. The Characteristics Of Oligopolies An oligopoly is a market structure characterized by; few firms either standardized or differentiated products, and difficult entry. A key characteristic of oligopolies is that each firm can affect the market, making each firm s choices dependent on the choices of the other firms. These are known as interdependent. Oligopolies are made up of a small number of mutually interdependent firms. Each firm must take into account the expected reaction of other firms. The importance of interdependence is that it leads to strategic behaviour. Strategic behavior is the behavior that occurs when what is best for one company depends upon what the other company does, and vice verse. Oligopolistic behavior includes both ruthless competition and cooperation. Oligopolies can be collusive or non collusive. Firms may engage in strategic decision making where each firm takes explicit account of a rival s expected response to a decision it is making The cartel model is when a combination of firms acts as if it were a single firm and a monopoly price is set.
