Scholars As Well As Public Figures Have Suggested That
Scholars as well as public figures have suggested that a world run by women would,
fundamentally, be a more peaceful and equal one. ladies, as the stereotype goes (and, actually, as a
decent amount of empirical research suggests), tend to be more collaborative in work and
leadership, more empathetic, and much, much less violent on an individual level. ,as Vice President
Joe Biden recently suggested foreign policyis a logical extension of personal relationships, and if
women are widely acknowledged to be canny at conducting them, perhaps it follows that female
leadership in international affairs would produce more empathy and collaboration between
countries. To the extent that global problems like violence and inequality are failures of... Show

It is the precondition for such peace. There cannot be peace between nations until there is peace
between the two halves of humanity, the mothers and fathers of all living and all yet to live.
Steinem sees a connection between what we have chosen to normalize in male female relations,
and what we see at the level of state and society.
The family is the basic cell of the government, she explains, it is where we are trained to believe
that we are human beings or that we are chattel, it is where we are trained to see the sex and race
divisions and become callous to injustice even if it is done to ourselves, to accept as biological a
full system of authoritarian government.
Truly, it should not come as a surprise to us that societies which are rooted in male dominance
over females are in no way peaceful or democratic; as noted by Steinem. We are never going to
have democratic countries or peaceful countries until we have democratic or peaceful families
because you must teach men to dominate in order to maintain a male dominated system and that is
a very ugly education, indeed, where the first to be dominated are those within men s own families
who are different from them
Domestic violence is the seedbed of all other violence based on

Povertyin the World
Poverty evokes various definitions depending on the audience and perhaps the purpose or context
that it is used. Limiting the definition of poverty to a value judgment is of little use in terms of
agreeing on a definition for the purpose of comparison and measurement between groups (Sen
1979, p.285). A clear definition of povertysupports and indicates the process for measurement, and
as such would also assist in determining the focus and approach for development (Clark 2012;
Ruggeri, Saith Stewart 2006, p.19). In reviewing Oxfam Australias (Oxfam) Close the Gap
campaign, it is necessary to identify the approach that is taken in defining poverty in order to gauge
the scope of the project, the development of the approach used, and to quantify the change that
occurs.
Oxfam itself has identified Close the Gap as a human rights campaign that aims to close the life
expectancy health gap of 10 17 years for Aboriginal and Torres Strait within a generation (Holland
2014, p.46). Vizard in her exploration of Sen s capability approach (2005, p.24), emphasises the
marriage of capabilities with human rights, citing poverty as one of the key exclusions to
fundamental freedoms and human rights, thus expanding the definition of poverty into a
multidimensional one.
Health is one of the dimensions included in the rights approach, which suggests that the abuses of
human rights result in poverty and are also a result of poverty (OHCHR 2006, p.16). Along with a

Xia And Shang Dynasties Research Paper
Ancient Chinese civilization can be marked back to the Xia and Shang dynasties. Existing before
were agricultural communities; people fished, raised livestock, hunted, and gathered. They grew
millet (malted into beer) where water and field were available. They knitted, spun threads into cloth,
created things, art. They lived in pit homes, forming villages. Villages grew, and the North China
Plain grew with it into an extensive area with a solid population, possibly due to associative efforts
for flood management and irrigation. These early agricultural communities constituted the basis for
oncoming dynasties. Food production above those of subsistence farming encouraged plunder and
conquest. Comparable to West Asia, kings of conquest emerged... Show more content on

Indeed, Hanoi is introduced as 10 greatest street food by CNN (Goldberg, 2012). The
gastronomic tourists find street food tasteful and available. Moreover, its price is quite affordable,
not to say very cheap for the international visitors. When experiencing a culinary tour, the tourists
do not just enjoy delicious and new dishes; they want to discover culture of the destination also.
Hence, street food is a good way to satisfy that. The friendly sellers tell to tourists stories about
tradition of the nation or their daily life which provide traveler with knowledge of local culture and
lifestyle.
On one hand, Vietnamese gastronomy is not just about Vietnamese food; the gastronomes can try
Chinese, Thailand, French food and many other dishes from different countries in the world right
here in the Vietnamese restaurants. It is really a paradise of food bringing tourists to Vietnam. On
the other hand, many Vietnamese restaurants located abroad contribute to present the image of
Vietnamese gastronomy to the world. Misses Wendy Chan, an expert from Definity Marketing

Vietnam with a diverse and unique gastronomy and many other advantages presented above has a

HAP IF but some vengeful god would call to me From up the sky, and laugh: Thou suffering

would I bear, and clench myself, and die, Steeled by the sense of ire unmerited; Half eased, too,

Line 11, there is an alliteration of ВґCВґ, crass casualty that creates a sharp angry yet satisfying
tone. Personification is the device seen in this sonnet as it is seen at line 9, joy lies slain where
joy is seen as a person being killed by an assassin, hence being slain. Line 12, time is personified
as a gambler who throws a moan as he is throwing the dice in an attempt for it to land on
happiness. The persona challenges god fiercely in an outraged tone, a sad tone is being detected
in hardy s witting because god is such a powerful being that rains down misfortunes on humans,
so he targets his anger towards the deity. He is frustrated in the last stanza thus resulting in him
regarding the occurrences in nature as merely chance. The audience feels his intensity and thus
the mood of the poem is sad. Symbols in the poem are the sky which represents heaven high up
above that holds a more powerful being than mankind. Tears represent the persona s hurt that he
is being the victim of a vengeful god. Sun and rain represent every occurrence in nature that is
then deemed to be ruled by chance and not a supreme being, and the pilgrimage represents the
journey of life. NEUTRAL TONES WE stood by a pond that winter day, And the sun was white,

Team Building
Team building is ...an effective approach to improving teamwork and task accomplishments...
(Cummings and Worley, 2009). Teams are an integral part of Superb Caterers Ltd, and there are
two methods used by the management to build teams; a formal and an informal method.
Formally, the Managing Director and Operations Manager sit on a day to day basis and look at
workflow, geographical location of employees, and most importantly client suitability. If a client
has requested a particular employee due to past experiences, the organisation tries its best to
accommodate. The Human Resource Manager also gives input on how to make teams more
productive. She sits with the various teams and ensure that they know what goals they are
working towards (the organisational goals and missions), and updating them on their competitors.
This instils a sense of unity in working towards a common goal. Employees, however, do not get a
say with whom they wish to work with in a team as this can arise to conflict. As a result, it is left
strictly up to the managers observations of various factors, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Team building must take into consideration all of these roles, and must obtain the optimum balance.
If team members have similar weaknesses, the whole team may tend to have that weakness. If
members have similar strengths, they may tend to compete rather than cooperate for the team tasks
and responsibilities that best suit their natural styles (Gambari Isiaka, 2013). This would be the
main weakness of team building; a perfect balance of team member roles may not be achievable.
However, managers should try to ensure that the members of the teams being built have a healthy
mix of various team member roles so that ideal performance may

A Very Thoughtful Look Into Inner City Violence And The...
Part biography, part social view, a very thoughtful look into inner city violence and the rules
surrounding it. This book describes how his personal history with violence influenced his work with
youth and the programs that he has started to support youth. Geoffrey Canada describes the
progression of violencethat had happened in his lifetime. He also points out that there is a
disturbing difference between what the streetswere like in the 1960s compared to those of today.
Mr. Canada is a great storyteller and is thoroughly convincing. His Book Fist Stick Knife Gun, is a
great explanation of violence and poverty in late 20th century here in America. His story of how
he changed from a timid and frightened child into a young man who could hold his own in a
fight in the streets is written in a believable way. Canada actually learned the way of the streets
because he grew up in the streets It first started when he was a child when he and his friends
used their fists to settle disputes and to gain a reputation that would bring respect from the other
kids in the neighborhood. Sometimes those disputes would escalate with other weapons like a
knife. Mr. Canada grew up in the South Bronx in the 1960s, when violence was ever present but
guns were not. There were a very few adult men in the neighborhood, and the police were of very
little assistance. When he was not even old enough to be in first grade he was mugged on multiple
times by older, bigger kids. He was

How Does Cholesterol Affects Your Body
Cholesterol affects everyone at some point in time. Cholesterol is a lipid, a soft, fat like substance
that in a reasonable amount is crucial in maintaining good health. The liver produces a fat like a
particle known as cholesterol. People ingest cholesterol daily in the food they eat call lipoproteins.
The body needs Cholesterolto make Vitamin, hormones, and bile. A buildup of cholesterol in the

plaque narrow the blood flow through the artery known as Atherosclerosis. The consequence of

The Guatemalan civil war that emerged out of the political chaos created by the U.S. intervention
took upwards of 200,000 lives. It was during the civil war that we first saw such phenomena as
death squads and disappearances, which subsequently became standard operating procedure in
counterinsurgency wars throughout the hemisphere. U.S. military advisers were involved in the
formation of the death squads, and the head of the U.S. military mission publicly justified their

Essay on Retirement Revamping
Social Security is a major concern in American society today. Social Security first started in 1935
under President Roosevelt when he signed the Social Security Act that provided the elderly with
guaranteed retirement income. In 1939, benefits for spouses, dependent children of retirees, and
survivors of workers who die before retirement were implemented by congress. In the 1950 s,
disabled workers were also given benefits. Now days, Social Securityis under close scrutiny. Funds
are depleting, and Social Security is in need of some serious revamping. Many solutions have come
forth, but the most workable plan is to create privatized investment accounts that allow individuals
to have more influence over their own money for retirement.... Show more content on

Still others feel that America needs to do nothing and the only measures needed are good economic
policies. They feel that the situation can work itself out, and as long as the economy is kept
healthy, then Social Security will be just fine. (Strengthening)
Of all the ways posed, the best way to solve both the need for Social Security reform and economic
growth simultaneously is private investment accounts. This solution is one of allowing the younger
generation to start privatized accounts for their social security funds. Martin Feldstein, a professor
of economics at Harvard University and president of the National Bureau of Economics Research,
states:
Our current Social Security system is acting as a drag on economic growth in two important
ways. First, the payroll tax distorts the supply of labor and the type of compensation sought by
workers. These losses are inevitable because of the low return implied by the pay as you go
character of the unfunded Social Security system. Second, the system reduces national savings and
investment. Privatizing Social Security, transforming it from an unfunded pay as you go system to
a system of mandatory private savings accounts, would solve both of those problems and increase

Importance Of Technology In Education
Technology is useful to have around like when kids get lost or when parents need them to track
their kids. Technology can be useful in other ways, like technology is better for education. Also,
keeping touch with family and friends, and for emergencies.
First off, technology can be useful for education purposes when teachers give online homework,
when you have to check homework, and when a student misses a day of school and need to see
what the teacher taught in class. Technology is important because teachers give online
assignments that students have to do in at home as homework. An example of this would be in
history class if you have to do a worksheet online and submit it online so the teacher can see how
you did. Why you need technology for that is it would make it easier for the students and the
teachers to understand what they don t know and still need to learn. Secondly, why technology
is important for school when you have to check your homework at home and to fix what you get
wrong on the homework. An example is in math class when the teacher gives you a few
problems out of the book to do at home, and you need to check what did you get wrong and
where you have to improve. How this example shows how technology can help a student learn or
fixs a mistakes and help you do better on tests. The last reason why technology can help you do
better in school is to see what a student has missed in classes when they were sick or missed a day
of school. An example is when in

White to rescue the paw from burning in the fire, but choosing to make a wish upon the paw was

Morris and deciding whether it was worth the risk. He then proceeds to say, I wonder whether

feel this way given all the warnings and advice he had received against it. In the second half of
the quote, we witness Mr. White s greed cloud his common sense as he chooses to shamefully wish

The Lord Of The Rings Essay
The murder of DГ©agol haunted Gollum, and he had made up a defense, repeating it to his
precious over and over (The Fellowship of the Ring 62). This quote gives a look into the strongest
moment of shock that impacted young SmГ©agol s life forever. Gollum is a fictional character
unlike any other in The Lord of the Ringsseries, as he is portrayed as having undiagnosed Post
Traumatic Stress Disorder. There are six recurring symptoms that must happen in conjunction
with traumatic factors in order for someone to be diagnosed with PTSD, and unfortunately for
SmГ©agol his actions and history sync perfectly into the diagnosis. Due to the fact that Gollum
is a fictional character out of a book, it seems that the author, J.R.R. Tolkien, may have
purposely given these attributes to Gollum to display PTSD. Though Tolkien may argue that his
time in the war did not highly influence his books, subconsciously Tolkien, like many who were
in the war, could have had undiagnosed PTSD or known someone who did. As a combat veteran,
Tolkien and his friends were more likely to develop PTSD. This may have resulted in portraying
these symptoms on to one specific character, Gollum. Post Traumatic Stress Disorder is a disorder
that develops in some people who have experienced a shocking, scary, or dangerous event (NIMH),
just as Gollum had and continues to be put through. He has had a rough past of loss and exile, as
well as continuously trudges through horrific events and torture in which he must

Personality Theories And Trait Theories
The entire notion of Personality rests upon a number of assumptions: 1) that traits and types
exist 2) that traits and types are stable over time 3) that these traits and types are consistent
across different situations. At least two of these assumptions are so problematic that they
challenge the very existence of Personality. Critically evaluate this statement. Personality, a word
first coined in the C14th, has so broad a meaning that its definition varies significantly
depending on which theoretical approach or method of classification it is being used for. To the
average individual, their personality is simply what guides and forms their emotions, cognitions
and behavioural acts, yet psychologists have no universal definition and loosely apply it as an
overall heading, whilst focusing on its role in personality theories. In order to write this essay it
is important to establish the differences between Type Theories and Trait Theories. A personality
type is a group of key qualities an individual possesses, that when established, may allow a rough
prediction of human behaviour. Types are discrete and mutually exclusive you are either Type X
or Type Y. These types, and indeed traits, are thought to be constant as said by Tieger and Barron
Tieger in their book Do what you are The Type to which you are born will be the one you take to
your grave. Trait theories conversely identify qualities that people possess on a spectrum that can
form part of a prediction as to

Religious Persecution Essay
We need to get rid of the iron age idea that people have a constitutional guarantee protecting their
religion. This irrational nonsense ignores the fact that religion can, and often does, lead to the
deaths of many innocents. Not surprising, nonbelievers always tend to get the worst of any kind of
so called religious persecution . Sort of makes you wonder why its even called religious persecution
and not atheist persecution.
Before this nonsense found its way to the first amendment of the constitution. It was Lord
Baltimore of the Catholic church, who came up with the idea of a guaranteed right to worship,
therefore protecting the Catholic church in Maryland. Why? Not because there were atheists
disrespecting or killing the religious, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Seeing how religion certainly has proven to be the best at hate and divisive hate speech, it
religion certainly deserves to be on the top of the hate list. This is demonstrated by history and
proven in every day news. Ever hear of an atheist suicide bomber with total disregard for the lives
of woman and children?
We need to eliminate the guaranteed constitutional right to believe in dangerous ideas found
specifically in religion. By doing so, we would be able to criticize religion when it steps out of line,
in the SAME exact way that every other idea on earth is open to criticism. This would be a good
step to stopping the spread of nonsense.
Think how well it would have worked out if every news paper in the world printed the Danish
artists critical rendering of the prophet Muhammad, instead of cowering in fear and capitulating.
Because we cowered and allowed them to silence us, we empowered Islamic terrorists and what

The Importance Of Expungement
We know, in this country, that children are inherently different from adults and studies confirm this
(Shah, Fine, Gullen, 2014). These proven studies, have influenced the U.S. Supreme Court in
making case law on treating youths in a different manner from adults. This includes the ability to
have a juvenile record expunged (Shah, Fine, Gullen, 2014). When a juvenile commits an offense
and an investigation is conducted, many pieces of personal information are collected. Most states
have realized, protecting this information of youths, should be guided under separate regulations
than adults (Shah, Fine, Gullen, 2014). In the United States, we understand that youths are more apt
to make changes in behavior, and should not have the obstacle of transitioning into adulthood with
the burden of a record (Shah, Fine, Gullen, 2014).
Expungement basically means that a record will be destroyed and it will be as if it never
happened (Shah, Fine, Gullen, 2014). This is true to some degree, but no record is ever truly
wiped clean. Each state in America has established laws, which govern the process for
expungement. For example, some states are set up to automatically expunge juvenile records at a
certain age to set them up for success, as they transfer into adult status (Shah, Fine, Gullen, 2014).
In other states, the court has to be petitioned by the individual. Also, just because a record is
expunged, some instances still require discloser of the juvenile record

Sir William Wallace In Flannery O Connor s Braveheart
Fact or fiction? The thrilling adventures of Robin Hood have survived nearly 800 years. Never
ceasing to amaze the reader. Many have spent their days wondering if this English hero was
actually more than just a legend. Robin achieved great things in his life, although too great, it
seems, for a real man. It is thought that these tales could have been based on the life of one man,
exaggerated, but real nonetheless. A man would have to be a true hero of the people to have
stories told about him more than 800 years after his death. This man was a true legend; he
achieved more than almost any other man in his lifetime. This man s name was Sir William
Wallace of Scotland, or more commonly known as Braveheart .
William was a hero of Scotland, but could his amazing feats be so great that his stories were
adopted by the enemies of the time? William ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The only remaining seal of Wallace was attached to the Lubeck Letter. William spent much of his
younger life in Selkirk forest, outlawed, wrongly accused of being a poacher. He was a
gamekeeper, equipped with a bow and arrow. Here is the reason for the bow on his seal. Is it purely
coincidence that Robin was famous for his use of the bow? William s wife was called Mirren; this
is Scots for Marion, the name of Robin Hood s love. No evidence suggests that Robin ever lived in
Sherwood. There was no actual Robin Hood but is it possible that he could have existed as
William Wallace. Robin was famous for stopping tax carriages and giving the money to the poor.
Robin did not do this by force; he used tactics and strategy. Much like William Wallace did in his
battles. William lead commoners to battle not trained soldiers. He used strategy to win his battles,
yet another connection between Robin and William. All evidence suggests that Robin lived in the
13th century. It is of little surprise then that this was the time of William

The Conflict Theory Of Social Groups
Intergroup Competition is the idea that social groups will extend from the desire for a group to
gain the scarce resources that exist (36 40). This idea is greatly supported by the segment on
affirmative action in the video (36 40). As said in the movie, the idea is that scholarship money
and grant money is a scarce resource when students decide to go to college (37 40). In this view,
the individuals who are against affirmative actionare competing for that scarce resource (36 40).
By using techniques like affirmative action and racial and/or ethnic based scholarships present
the subordinate group s strive for power, and the arguments against these resources are the
dominant group s attempt to maintain their power (36 40). Moreover, the strive to gain these
programs is not just for their own individual self interest, but is for the interest of their social
group as a whole to maintain the group s desires (36 40). It is in this belief that s the Realistic
Conflict Theory resides (36 40). In this, their exists the view that this conflict for scarce resources
subsequently produces prejudice, in which a privileged group has a sense of group position and
strives to protect it (36 40). This is shown in the video by the idea of reverse racism, in which the
dominant group tries to grain pity for their loss of domination by saying that affirmative action
gives African Americans an unfair advantage, thus racially profiling the subordinate group while
trying to maintain their

The First Poem Thanatopsis By William Cullen Bryant
To him who in the love of nature holds / communication with her visible forms.... (Bryant 1 2).
Nature was thought to be the most beautiful thing in the world in the Romanticism Era. William
Cullen Bryant wrote many short stories, books and poems. He wrote some in his early childhood
and some in his later ages. His most famous poem, Thanatopsis , was written when he was only
seventeen years old. Because he was so young when he initially composed the work, it had to be
edited many times throughout his life. Bryant s first poem Thanatopsis , gave birth to American
poetry; if not the best known American poem of the romanticismera, it was one of the most
influential and well known poems of the time.
William Cullen Bryant was born on November 3, 1794, in a small town called Cummington,
Massachusetts. His Father, Dr. Peter Bryant, was a physician and a surgeon who moved to
Cummington only two years before the birth of William. His mother, Sarah Snell, was a daughter
of one of the first settlers. William later gives his mother credit for making a strong impression on
his value system (qtd. in Reuben). William was an abnormally brilliant child. When he was barely

He also changed sentence structures to create better rhythm and tone. The quote: That wind among

Cardiomyopathy, Raynaud s And Perfusion
Cardiomyopathy, Raynaud s and Perfusion
Adequate perfusion supplies the entire body with necessary oxygen and nutrients to sustain life.
The process of oxygenation and perfusion can be affected by a multitude of factors. A few
examples are, a decreased oxygen carrying capacity, hypovolemia, neuromuscular disease, central
nervous system alterations and chronic diseases (Potter, Perry, Stockert, Hall, 2013, p. 826). Two
specific examples of conditions affecting perfusion are cardiomyopathy and Raynaud s
phenomenon.

breathing, inability to tolerate exercise, and an overall feeling of exhaustion (Kupper Mitchell, p.

Piaget Cognitive Theory
Piaget s Theory used in Mathematics Today Piaget took an interest in children s cognitive
development and came up with his theory of Cognitive Development; the Cognitive Development
theory consists of the four stages: Sensorimotor, Preoperational, Concrete Operational, and Formal
Operational (Ghazi Ullah, 2016, pg. 1). Jean Piagets cognitive theory has a wide array of effects on
children s learning in mathematics that are applicable to teaching today. Teachers today use
different strategies and teaching methods based on what stage children are in. I will discuss each of
the stages and how teachers use them in math today. The first stage is the sensorimotor stage, which
takes place between the age of zero to two, and is where children understand perception and
awareness of the environment through physical actions and the manipulation of objects (Ghazi
Ullah, 2016, pg. 1). In the sensorimotor stage, the most important thing to understand is the idea of
object permanence and understanding that even when the child cannot see the object they are still
able to find it. Also, in this stage they begin to associate numbers with objects and they understand
counting. In order to enhance a child s math basis teachers are giving activities that include
counting. Asking question like Who has more? and Are there enough? , start the foundation for
young children to not only understand these things in the classroom but even more so in the real
world. Another way teachers enhance

Character Analysis Of Mice And Men
John Steinbeck sets the scene of his novella, Of Mice and Men, in the Salinas River Valley, a
few miles south of Soledad. The time period of the novella is the 1930 s during the Great
Depression. The Great Depression began in 1929 after the U.S. had a major financial crisis.
People lost all of their money and their homes when the stock market crashed. Many men became
migrant farm workers who would travel from farm to farm, working for just enough money for
food and a few belongings. John Steinbeckgrew up in the Salinas River Valley during the
Depression. In his novella, of Mice and Men, Steinbeck uses the characters Candy, Curley s wife,
and Crooks to prove people will do anything to stop being lonely.

a boxer and wears expensive clothes. His father is the boss on the farm and has a lot of money.
Curley s wife tries to talk to the boys but they don t trust her. She says, Why can t I talk to you? I
never get to talk to nobody. I get awful lonely (Steinbeck 86). This quote shows that no one ever
tries or wants to talk to her. Curley s wife complains to Lennie about how lonely she is and that
she just wants to talk to people. As the book continues, she explains to Lennie why she never gets
to talk to anyone. She says, You can talk to people, but I can t talk to nobody but Curley. Else he
gets mad (Steinbeck 87). This quote shows that Curley is very controlling over his wife and only
lets her talk to him. Curley s wife talks to Lennie even though he is very intimidating. She is
desperate to talk to anyone so she flirts with Lennie and the other men to get their attention.
Lastly, Steinbeck uses Crooks to show the things people are willing to do to not be lonely. Crooks
is the black crippled stable buck who works on the farm. He is the only black man for miles and has
no one to talk with, or to be his friend. Crooks tells Lennie, A guy needs somebody to be near him

general, one can think of devices that produce distortion as exhibiting a nonlinear relationship
between voltage and current. Such nonlinear relationships can lead to several forms of distortion
as summarized below: * A periodic steady state exists and the distorted waveform can be
expressed as a Fourier series with a fundamental frequency equal to the power frequency. * A
periodic steady state exists and the distorted waveform can be expressed as a Fourier series with
fundamental frequency that is a sub multiple of power frequency. * The waveform is aperiodic but
perhaps almost periodic. A trigonometric series expansion may still exist (as an exact representation
or as an approximation). The first case is commonly encountered in harmonic studies. There are

GPS Safety Bubble Technology Essay
Although Global Positioning technology has existed since the mid 1970 s, some of the most
significant advancements have taken place within the last five years. In recent months, studies have
been conducted by NASA and other institutions concerning the use of advanced GPS technology in
both computer controlled flight of commercial aircraft and the establishment of no fly safety

override a manual command and not allow the craft to enter these designated areas. There are many
possible benefits of this technology, but with any new advancement also comes ethical questions.

To promote international cooperation in using GPS for peaceful purposes.
To advance U.S. scientific and technical capabilities. (Rand McNally).
During the first years of the GPS development the general public could access the satellites, but
could only realize positioning precision to about 350 feet of actual position. This was due to a
Selective Availability policy that was put in place by the U.S. government to insure that the military
would have superior navigational capabilities to the public. This changed however in May, 2000
when the government decided that these limitations were no longer necessary. Today it is possible,
with the proper equipment, for anyone in the world to determine his or her precise location to
within about 60 feet. All though the information is classified, it is rumored that today, using the
most sophisticated GPS technology, the military can achieve precision within 1 foot of actual
position.
The current Global Positioning System is a group of satellites, known as a constellation, which
continually broadcast both their exact locations in space and the exact time. By tracking the
signals from at least four of these satellites, a GPS receiver on earth can determine its current
latitude, longitude and altitude. Some GPS receivers can also report the current time, direction of
travel and the rate of distance traveled. This is all possible because both the GPS receiver and the
Satellite count time on an atomic clock.

Political Allegory In Alice In Wonderland
One historical approach to Carroll s Alice in Wonderland invites the reader to observe the trends,
culture as well as the philosophy of the Victorian Era for a personalized interpretation of Alice s
encounters in Wonderland. Usage of the Historical approach may seem demoralizing in sheer
scope; it is quite imperative to understand that the novel was written during a specific time period
that, in itself, contained unique habits and concerns. Within the following pages, the connections
with the Victorian erain terms of the middle class upbringing of children, notions of order,
reasoning, logic and politesse will be further understood. Political allegory, a powerful theme that
reflects brilliantly in the real life to England; the Wonderland, the symbolic England, The novel can
be first identified as the direct opposite with characters that jigsaw into the real life. Wonderland
was ruled unjustly by the Queen of Hearts, who, correspondingly was Queen Victoria. There were
pieces of evidence that Carroll was not overly timid by the Queen. The aristocracy of violence that
was assigned to Wonderland (the Queen and the Duchess) as well as the ludicrous mangling of
justice in the trial ( Sentence first, then verdict ; the British system indeed at that time in
shambles.) are often used as the evidence that Alice belonged to perhaps the genre of political
satire more than Carroll had realized. Another political approach is to treat Alice as an allegory for
colonization. During the

Astronomy Impact
Astronomical impact of the Moon on Earth
By: Peter Wehrfritz (500405367) CPCS 181
The moon has had a profound impact on the earth s evolution as well as life on Earth. Our moon
is believed to have been created about 4.5 billion years ago, when a large planetoid crashed into
the Earth, spraying space debris which was gradually captured by gravity 2. Eventually, this
material solidified into a body which we know as our moon. 3. This process is unique in our solar
system as the other planet s moons were formed by capturing free floating bodies with their gravity
3.
Physical Characteristics of the Moon
Earth s moon is the brightest object in our night sky. It has an elliptical orbit around the earth every
27.322 days and it also takes approximately ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The gravitational force of the moon is strong enough to exert a pulling force on the Earth, but
the Earth is able to hold on to everything except the water 7. As the water is in constant motion
the moon gravity is able to create a pull on the water, causing it to bulge resulting in high tide 7.
As the Moon and the earth are moving with respect to each other, the force creating high tide
also moves over different parts of the earth. Each day, there are two high tides and two low tides,
with about 12 hours and 25 minutes between the two high tides 7. However, these periods do not
happen at the same time each day because the moon takes about 50 minutes more than earth s 24
hour day to exactly align again with the same point on the Earth. Therefore, the timing of high
tides is staggered throughout the month, with each tide occurring approximately 24 hours and 50
minutes later than the previous one 6. It is also observed that the water on the opposite side of
Earth which faces away from the Moon also experiences high tide 6. The reason is that the
stronger centrifugal force pulls in the opposite direction to negate the moon s gravitational pull on
the earth to keep them apart and thus causes the ocean water on the opposite side of the Earth to
bulge and experience high tide

Definition Of Family In Secondhand Lions
Family in a conventional context is seen as mothers and fathers providing for their children, both
mentally and economically. In Secondhand Lions, Walter s mother does not provide in an
economic or mental way and he is forced to live a life without the feeling of genuine love. When
Walter s mother realizes her uncles are rich she sends Walter to them in hopes he will find their
money. Walter does not want to go there at first but as his experiences with his uncles progress,
and they teach him what it means to be a man, he realizes they are his true familyand he would
rather be with them than his mother.
The word family is derived from the Latin form, Familia. The conventional definition of family is
a group consisting of parents and children living together in a household. Familia in its
traditional definition means servants of a household. Family is generally related to the Holy
Family. The Holy Family consists of baby Jesus, the Virgin Mary, and Saint Joseph. Family is
also seen in many great works of literature throughout history. Including, Oedipus by Sophocles. In
Oedipus, he is prophesized to kill his father and marry and produce kids with his mother. This
Greek tragedy shows the twisted forms of family that is possible and has been focused on by
psychiatrists like Sigmund Freud.
Secondhand Lions begins with Walter, a young boy, and his mother, Mae, in a car. Mae is

Essay on Chaucer s The Canterbury Tales
Chaucer s The Canterbury Tales
In The Canterbury Tales, Geoffrey Chaucer comments on moral corruption within the Roman
Catholic Church. He criticizes many high ranking members of the Church and describes a lack of
morality in medieval society; yet in the Retraction, Chaucer recants much of his work and pledges
to be true to Christianity. Seemingly opposite views exist within the Retraction and The Canterbury
Tales. However, this contradiction does not weaken Chaucer s social commentary. Rather, the
Retraction emphasizes Chaucer s criticism of the Church and society in The Canterbury Tales by
reinforcing the risk inherent in doing so.
In The Canterbury Tales Chaucer portrays the Roman Catholic Church as an institution in... Show

Chaucer clearly indicates that many leaders of the Church act only for their own good, rather than
for spiritual reasons.
In his description of other pilgrims, Chaucer points out how the lack of morality within the
Church is echoed by the rest of society. Several pilgrims have non religious reasons for going on
the pilgrimage. The Wife of Bath, for instance, is looking for her sixth husband, hoping that Som
Cristen man shal wed me [her] anoon (WBT 54). Many of the characters have little or no regard
for others, but instead are focused only on their own desires. The Franklin is so gluttonous that
It snewed [snows] in his hous of mete and drinke, / Of alle daintees that men coude thinke (GP
347 8). Chaucer even suggests that the Sergeant at Law, a prominent figure in society, seemed
bisier than he was (GP 324). The corruption of the Church has, according to Chaucer, affected the
way individuals act. If the Church is immoral it is not surprising that much of society mirrors the
Church s immoral actions. The Parson cleverly describes the effect of a lack of morality in the
leaders of society by comparing the corruption of individuals to the rusting of metals: if gold
ruste, what shal iren do? / For if a preest be foul, on whom we truste, / No wonder is a lewed man
to ruste (GP 502 4). Chaucer attacks not only the behaviour of the Church officials but also the
immorality of the laypeople in Medieval society.
Contrary to the critical tone used in The Canterbury

Sanitation Safety Planning For Sanitation
1.Sanitation Safety Planning
Sanitation safety planning (SSP) is a risk based management tool for sanitation systems that
prevents exposure to disease causing excreta, from containment through emptying, transport,
treatment, and to disposal or reuse phase (Organization, Sanitation safety planning, Manuel for Safe
Use and Disposal of wastewater, greywater, and excreta 2015).
SSP can be applied in both formal and informal settings for improving existing systems. SSP is also
useful in the reduction of health impacts while increasing the benefits of reuse.

pathways, and potential hazards. Second step is the develop and implementation of ... Show more

The organization responsible for overseeing collection and transport can has to assure the provision
of appropriate equipment, working according to standard operating procedures. Controls may also
include proper design and construction of sanitation systems, working with trained operators, and
have a preventive maintenance program. For example, periodic testing of effluent and checks on
delivery volumes may be included in the monitoring phase. As the performance of the treatment
plant have a serious effect on the way the bio solids are applied in the farm, pathogens can be
recycled back to the community leading to a disease outbreak. Costs in terms of public health and
businesses reputation need to be taken into account.
Following with the forth step which consist of developing supporting programs and reviewing
plans. When the fecal sludge is delivered to the treatment plant, adequate management is not always
done and some products end in dumping sites leading to serious health and environmental impacts.
In that case, SSP should also identify dumping as a hazardous event and include controls and
monitoring to manage these risks posed to the wider community. A plan can also be developed at
the treatment level, so that effluent and bio solids meet agreed standards (Organization, Sanitation
safety planning, Manuel for Safe Use and Disposal of wastewater, greywater, and excreta 2015).

two most important aspects of ancient Greek life: family and war. To the ancient Greeks, Athena
was the Goddess of wisdom, reasoning, craft, intelligence and war. Athena was extremely popular
during her time, not just among humans but among the gods themselves. Unlike the other gods, the
was brung into the world in a unique way. Most other gods were born from mothers, Athenacame
from Zeuss head. The myth goes that Athena was to be born to her mother, Metis, but there was
a prophecy that said that the child Metis would bear would one day become The lord of the
heavens . Threatened by this, Zeus swallowed Metis in an attempt to get rid of her and the baby.
Around the time that Athena was meant to be born Zeus had developed a terrible headache and
soon after Athena emerged from his head. Upon emerging from his head it was realized that not
only was she a fulling grown adult but she was also dressed in full armor. Ironically, once born she
quickly became Zeus s favorite child, despite him having tried to get rid of her ( Greek Mythology.
).
Her creation story alone sets her apart from the other Goddesses. What it also does is set the tone
for who Athena is and what she will come to mean to the ancient Greek people. It s quite inspiring
how although she was meant to be destroyed she managed to somehow emerge health, and most
importantly triumphant.
As the Goddess of war Athena

Kris Gastelum Case Study
The UFC travels to Long Island, New York on Saturday for a card headlined by a fighter who is
ready risk it all for a win in his native state a win that he has chased for quite some time. That
fighter, No. 5 ranked middleweight and former title holder Chris Weidman, will face rising star
and No. 8 ranked middleweight Kelvin Gastelum in the main event of the evening. Weidman has
lost three straight fights, including a title defense against Luke Rockhold and loses to Yoel
Romero and most recently Gegard Mousasi in April. He hasn t won a fight since May 2015, and
his loss to Mousasi was as confusing to the fans as it was to him. After absorbing consecutive
knees to the head that were initially declared illegal by the referee Dan... Show more content on

Michael Bisping stepped in on two weeks notice and shockingly won the title that Weidman was
trying to get back. If Weidman wants to get back to his winning ways, he ll have to be at the top
of his game against a young and hungry lion. Gastelum looks like he has finally found a home in
the middleweight division after struggling to make weight for fights in the welterweight division.
In his last bout, he looked impressive against Belfort, finishing him in the first round and winning
Performance of the Night honors. However, the fight was later overturned due to a positive
marijuana test. Prior to the Belfort fight, Gastelum dominated Tim Kennedy at UFC 206 with a
third round KO, cementing his place in the division. Gastelum, 25 years old, showed tremendous
hand speed and the ability to take a punch in both fights, making him a far more dangerous
fighter than he s often given credit for. Now fighting at a more comfortable weight, he has shown
speed and athleticism that gives him the potential to wreak havoc in the 185 pound division.
Gastelum s only losses in the UFC have come by split decision to welterweight champion Tyron
Woodley and No. 6 ranked welterweight Neil Magny. Aside Kennedy, he has key victories over
Uriah Hall, Johny Hendricks, Nate Marquardt and Jake Ellenberger. A win over Weidman could
catapult Gastelum up the middleweight rankings, while a win for Weidman could potentially land
him back into

James grew up in a chaotic setting in which survival of the fittest was a tactic he needed to use
every day. He grew up with eleven other children in his household, leaving him to fend for and

measures of high dignity and with the strive or will power to succeed. Looking back on his life,
James owes his success to his mother. He says Mommy s children are extraordinary people, most
of them leaders in their own rights. All of them have toted more mental baggage and dealt with
more hardships than they care to remember, yet carry themselves with a giant measure of dignity,
humility, and humor. (McBride Page 276). Self motivation and self reliance was a life lesson Ruth

Themes Of Saving Private Ryan
Saving Private Ryan is a theatrical masterpiece that incorporates many universal themes that
almost all people can relate to. The movie follows a squad of U.S. soldiers as they battle through
the trenches of World War II. Directed by the great Stephen Spielberg, the movie is claimed by
many to be the most accurate presentation of war in any movie to date. The movie includes
several themes that helps captivate the audience and truly help people understand just how
horrible war is. The idea of losing loved ones frightens even the toughest of us, and being lost in a
foreign land scares many others. Both of these themes are thoroughly explored and propelled onto
the audience to experience. The extremely accurate depiction of war, the universal themes that
everyone can relate to, and the film being a theatrical masterpiece are all reasons why everyone
should watch Saving Private Ryan.
The movie follows Captain Miller (Tom Hanks) and his squad as they go on a hellish journey
through war in order to save a mother s only living son. On this journey they experience many
nightmare like events, such as horrific physical injuries and emotional damage, that most people
cannot even fathom. The movie starts out with U.S. soldiers being physically sick and
emotionally distraught while riding inside amphibious landing craft. These soldiers are
becoming ill over the event that they are about to experience which is the notorious battle of D
Day . These images of the soldiers becoming physically just imaging what could happen during
the battle are a look into what many soldiers experience before they enter into battle. Saving
Private Ryan is the first, and most accurate, depiction of war to date. The movie shows the
emotional tolls that soldiers experience, like in the landing craft, but it more thoroughly displays
the physical violence that goes on in war. Just minutes after those soldiers in the landing craft are
seen becoming ill, they are storming the beaches of Normandy, and many end up dying horrible
deaths. The images of soldiers being violently injured and the excessive gore in this scene is used
to further show just how horrible war truly is.
There are a plethora of reasons why someone should watch Saving Private

  • 2. Scholars As Well As Public Figures Have Suggested That Scholars as well as public figures have suggested that a world run by women would, fundamentally, be a more peaceful and equal one. ladies, as the stereotype goes (and, actually, as a decent amount of empirical research suggests), tend to be more collaborative in work and leadership, more empathetic, and much, much less violent on an individual level. ,as Vice President Joe Biden recently suggested foreign policyis a logical extension of personal relationships, and if women are widely acknowledged to be canny at conducting them, perhaps it follows that female leadership in international affairs would produce more empathy and collaboration between countries. To the extent that global problems like violence and inequality are failures of... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It is the precondition for such peace. There cannot be peace between nations until there is peace between the two halves of humanity, the mothers and fathers of all living and all yet to live. Steinem sees a connection between what we have chosen to normalize in male female relations, and what we see at the level of state and society. The family is the basic cell of the government, she explains, it is where we are trained to believe that we are human beings or that we are chattel, it is where we are trained to see the sex and race divisions and become callous to injustice even if it is done to ourselves, to accept as biological a full system of authoritarian government. Truly, it should not come as a surprise to us that societies which are rooted in male dominance over females are in no way peaceful or democratic; as noted by Steinem. We are never going to have democratic countries or peaceful countries until we have democratic or peaceful families because you must teach men to dominate in order to maintain a male dominated system and that is a very ugly education, indeed, where the first to be dominated are those within men s own families who are different from them Domestic violence is the seedbed of all other violence based on ... • 3. Povertyin the World Poverty evokes various definitions depending on the audience and perhaps the purpose or context that it is used. Limiting the definition of poverty to a value judgment is of little use in terms of agreeing on a definition for the purpose of comparison and measurement between groups (Sen 1979, p.285). A clear definition of povertysupports and indicates the process for measurement, and as such would also assist in determining the focus and approach for development (Clark 2012; Ruggeri, Saith Stewart 2006, p.19). In reviewing Oxfam Australias (Oxfam) Close the Gap campaign, it is necessary to identify the approach that is taken in defining poverty in order to gauge the scope of the project, the development of the approach used, and to quantify the change that occurs. Oxfam itself has identified Close the Gap as a human rights campaign that aims to close the life expectancy health gap of 10 17 years for Aboriginal and Torres Strait within a generation (Holland 2014, p.46). Vizard in her exploration of Sen s capability approach (2005, p.24), emphasises the marriage of capabilities with human rights, citing poverty as one of the key exclusions to fundamental freedoms and human rights, thus expanding the definition of poverty into a multidimensional one. Health is one of the dimensions included in the rights approach, which suggests that the abuses of human rights result in poverty and are also a result of poverty (OHCHR 2006, p.16). Along with a multidimensional ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Existing before were agricultural communities; people fished, raised livestock, hunted, and gathered. They grew millet (malted into beer) where water and field were available. They knitted, spun threads into cloth, created things, art. They lived in pit homes, forming villages. Villages grew, and the North China Plain grew with it into an extensive area with a solid population, possibly due to associative efforts for flood management and irrigation. These early agricultural communities constituted the basis for oncoming dynasties. Food production above those of subsistence farming encouraged plunder and conquest. Personification is the device seen in this sonnet as it is seen at line 9, joy lies slain where joy is seen as a person being killed by an assassin, hence being slain. Line 12, time is personified as a gambler who throws a moan as he is throwing the dice in an attempt for it to land on happiness. The persona challenges god fiercely in an outraged tone, a sad tone is being detected in hardy s witting because god is such a powerful being that rains down misfortunes on humans, so he targets his anger towards the deity. He is frustrated in the last stanza thus resulting in him regarding the occurrences in nature as merely chance. The audience feels his intensity and thus the mood of the poem is sad. Symbols in the poem are the sky which represents heaven high up above that holds a more powerful being than mankind. Tears represent the persona s hurt that he is being the victim of a vengeful god. Sun and rain represent every occurrence in nature that is then deemed to be ruled by chance and not a supreme being, and the pilgrimage represents the journey of life. Teams are an integral part of Superb Caterers Ltd, and there are two methods used by the management to build teams; a formal and an informal method. Formally, the Managing Director and Operations Manager sit on a day to day basis and look at workflow, geographical location of employees, and most importantly client suitability. If a client has requested a particular employee due to past experiences, the organisation tries its best to accommodate. The Human Resource Manager also gives input on how to make teams more productive. She sits with the various teams and ensure that they know what goals they are working towards (the organisational goals and missions), and updating them on their competitors. This instils a sense of unity in working towards a common goal. Employees, however, do not get a say with whom they wish to work with in a team as this can arise to conflict. • 8. A Very Thoughtful Look Into Inner City Violence And The... Part biography, part social view, a very thoughtful look into inner city violence and the rules surrounding it. This book describes how his personal history with violence influenced his work with youth and the programs that he has started to support youth. Geoffrey Canada describes the progression of violencethat had happened in his lifetime. He also points out that there is a disturbing difference between what the streetswere like in the 1960s compared to those of today. Mr. Canada is a great storyteller and is thoroughly convincing. His Book Fist Stick Knife Gun, is a great explanation of violence and poverty in late 20th century here in America. His story of how he changed from a timid and frightened child into a young man who could hold his own in a fight in the streets is written in a believable way. Canada actually learned the way of the streets because he grew up in the streets It first started when he was a child when he and his friends used their fists to settle disputes and to gain a reputation that would bring respect from the other kids in the neighborhood. Sometimes those disputes would escalate with other weapons like a knife. Mr. Canada grew up in the South Bronx in the 1960s, when violence was ever present but guns were not. There were a very few adult men in the neighborhood, and the police were of very little assistance. Social Security first started in 1935 under President Roosevelt when he signed the Social Security Act that provided the elderly with guaranteed retirement income. In 1939, benefits for spouses, dependent children of retirees, and survivors of workers who die before retirement were implemented by congress. In the 1950 s, disabled workers were also given benefits. Now days, Social Securityis under close scrutiny. Funds are depleting, and Social Security is in need of some serious revamping. This solution is one of allowing the younger generation to start privatized accounts for their social security funds. Martin Feldstein, a professor of economics at Harvard University and president of the National Bureau of Economics Research, states: Our current Social Security system is acting as a drag on economic growth in two important ways. First, the payroll tax distorts the supply of labor and the type of compensation sought by workers. These losses are inevitable because of the low return implied by the pay as you go character of the unfunded Social Security system. Second, the system reduces national savings and investment. • 12. Importance Of Technology In Education Technology is useful to have around like when kids get lost or when parents need them to track their kids. Technology can be useful in other ways, like technology is better for education. Also, keeping touch with family and friends, and for emergencies. First off, technology can be useful for education purposes when teachers give online homework, when you have to check homework, and when a student misses a day of school and need to see what the teacher taught in class. Technology is important because teachers give online assignments that students have to do in at home as homework. An example of this would be in history class if you have to do a worksheet online and submit it online so the teacher can see how you did. Why you need technology for that is it would make it easier for the students and the teachers to understand what they don t know and still need to learn. Secondly, why technology is important for school when you have to check your homework at home and to fix what you get wrong on the homework. An example is in math class when the teacher gives you a few problems out of the book to do at home, and you need to check what did you get wrong and where you have to improve. How this example shows how technology can help a student learn or fixs a mistakes and help you do better on tests. This quote gives a look into the strongest moment of shock that impacted young SmГ©agol s life forever. Gollum is a fictional character unlike any other in The Lord of the Ringsseries, as he is portrayed as having undiagnosed Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. There are six recurring symptoms that must happen in conjunction with traumatic factors in order for someone to be diagnosed with PTSD, and unfortunately for SmГ©agol his actions and history sync perfectly into the diagnosis. Due to the fact that Gollum is a fictional character out of a book, it seems that the author, J.R.R. Tolkien, may have purposely given these attributes to Gollum to display PTSD. Though Tolkien may argue that his time in the war did not highly influence his books, subconsciously Tolkien, like many who were in the war, could have had undiagnosed PTSD or known someone who did. As a combat veteran, Tolkien and his friends were more likely to develop PTSD. This may have resulted in portraying these symptoms on to one specific character, Gollum. Post Traumatic Stress Disorder is a disorder that develops in some people who have experienced a shocking, scary, or dangerous event (NIMH), just as Gollum had and continues to be put through. He has had a rough past of loss and exile, as well as continuously trudges through horrific events and torture in which he must ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 16. Personality Theories And Trait Theories The entire notion of Personality rests upon a number of assumptions: 1) that traits and types exist 2) that traits and types are stable over time 3) that these traits and types are consistent across different situations. At least two of these assumptions are so problematic that they challenge the very existence of Personality. Critically evaluate this statement. Personality, a word first coined in the C14th, has so broad a meaning that its definition varies significantly depending on which theoretical approach or method of classification it is being used for. To the average individual, their personality is simply what guides and forms their emotions, cognitions and behavioural acts, yet psychologists have no universal definition and loosely apply it as an overall heading, whilst focusing on its role in personality theories. In order to write this essay it is important to establish the differences between Type Theories and Trait Theories. A personality type is a group of key qualities an individual possesses, that when established, may allow a rough prediction of human behaviour. Types are discrete and mutually exclusive you are either Type X or Type Y. These types, and indeed traits, are thought to be constant as said by Tieger and Barron Tieger in their book Do what you are The Type to which you are born will be the one you take to your grave. Trait theories conversely identify qualities that people possess on a spectrum that can form part of a prediction as to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 21. The Importance Of Expungement We know, in this country, that children are inherently different from adults and studies confirm this (Shah, Fine, Gullen, 2014). These proven studies, have influenced the U.S. Supreme Court in making case law on treating youths in a different manner from adults. This includes the ability to have a juvenile record expunged (Shah, Fine, Gullen, 2014). When a juvenile commits an offense and an investigation is conducted, many pieces of personal information are collected. Most states have realized, protecting this information of youths, should be guided under separate regulations than adults (Shah, Fine, Gullen, 2014). In the United States, we understand that youths are more apt to make changes in behavior, and should not have the obstacle of transitioning into adulthood with the burden of a record (Shah, Fine, Gullen, 2014). Expungement basically means that a record will be destroyed and it will be as if it never happened (Shah, Fine, Gullen, 2014). This is true to some degree, but no record is ever truly wiped clean. Each state in America has established laws, which govern the process for expungement. For example, some states are set up to automatically expunge juvenile records at a certain age to set them up for success, as they transfer into adult status (Shah, Fine, Gullen, 2014). In other states, the court has to be petitioned by the individual. Also, just because a record is expunged, some instances still require discloser of the juvenile record ... • 22. Sir William Wallace In Flannery O Connor s Braveheart Fact or fiction? The thrilling adventures of Robin Hood have survived nearly 800 years. Never ceasing to amaze the reader. Many have spent their days wondering if this English hero was actually more than just a legend. Robin achieved great things in his life, although too great, it seems, for a real man. It is thought that these tales could have been based on the life of one man, exaggerated, but real nonetheless. A man would have to be a true hero of the people to have stories told about him more than 800 years after his death. This man was a true legend; he achieved more than almost any other man in his lifetime. This man s name was Sir William Wallace of Scotland, or more commonly known as Braveheart . The only remaining seal of Wallace was attached to the Lubeck Letter. William spent much of his younger life in Selkirk forest, outlawed, wrongly accused of being a poacher. He was a gamekeeper, equipped with a bow and arrow. Here is the reason for the bow on his seal. Is it purely coincidence that Robin was famous for his use of the bow? William s wife was called Mirren; this is Scots for Marion, the name of Robin Hood s love. No evidence suggests that Robin ever lived in Sherwood. There was no actual Robin Hood but is it possible that he could have existed as William Wallace. Robin was famous for stopping tax carriages and giving the money to the poor. Robin did not do this by force; he used tactics and strategy. Much like William Wallace did in his battles. William lead commoners to battle not trained soldiers. He used strategy to win his battles, yet another connection between Robin and William. All evidence suggests that Robin lived in the 13th century. • 23. The Conflict Theory Of Social Groups Intergroup Competition is the idea that social groups will extend from the desire for a group to gain the scarce resources that exist (36 40). This idea is greatly supported by the segment on affirmative action in the video (36 40). As said in the movie, the idea is that scholarship money and grant money is a scarce resource when students decide to go to college (37 40). In this view, the individuals who are against affirmative actionare competing for that scarce resource (36 40). By using techniques like affirmative action and racial and/or ethnic based scholarships present the subordinate group s strive for power, and the arguments against these resources are the dominant group s attempt to maintain their power (36 40). Moreover, the strive to gain these programs is not just for their own individual self interest, but is for the interest of their social group as a whole to maintain the group s desires (36 40). It is in this belief that s the Realistic Conflict Theory resides (36 40). In this, their exists the view that this conflict for scarce resources subsequently produces prejudice, in which a privileged group has a sense of group position and strives to protect it (36 40). This is shown in the video by the idea of reverse racism, in which the dominant group tries to grain pity for their loss of domination by saying that affirmative action gives African Americans an unfair advantage, thus racially profiling the subordinate group while trying to maintain their ... Nature was thought to be the most beautiful thing in the world in the Romanticism Era. William Cullen Bryant wrote many short stories, books and poems. He wrote some in his early childhood and some in his later ages. His most famous poem, Thanatopsis , was written when he was only seventeen years old. Because he was so young when he initially composed the work, it had to be edited many times throughout his life. Bryant s first poem Thanatopsis , gave birth to American poetry; if not the best known American poem of the romanticismera, it was one of the most influential and well known poems of the time. William Cullen Bryant was born on November 3, 1794, in a small town called Cummington, Massachusetts. His Father, Dr. Peter Bryant, was a physician and a surgeon who moved to Cummington only two years before the birth of William. His mother, Sarah Snell, was a daughter of one of the first settlers. Piaget Cognitive Theory Piaget s Theory used in Mathematics Today Piaget took an interest in children s cognitive development and came up with his theory of Cognitive Development; the Cognitive Development theory consists of the four stages: Sensorimotor, Preoperational, Concrete Operational, and Formal Operational (Ghazi Ullah, 2016, pg. 1). Jean Piagets cognitive theory has a wide array of effects on children s learning in mathematics that are applicable to teaching today. Teachers today use different strategies and teaching methods based on what stage children are in. I will discuss each of the stages and how teachers use them in math today. The first stage is the sensorimotor stage, which takes place between the age of zero to two, and is where children understand perception and awareness of the environment through physical actions and the manipulation of objects (Ghazi Ullah, 2016, pg. 1). In the sensorimotor stage, the most important thing to understand is the idea of object permanence and understanding that even when the child cannot see the object they are still able to find it. Also, in this stage they begin to associate numbers with objects and they understand counting. In order to enhance a child s math basis teachers are giving activities that include counting. Asking question like Who has more? and Are there enough? , start the foundation for young children to not only understand these things in the classroom but even more so in the real world. During the first years of the GPS development the general public could access the satellites, but could only realize positioning precision to about 350 feet of actual position. This was due to a Selective Availability policy that was put in place by the U.S. government to insure that the military would have superior navigational capabilities to the public. This changed however in May, 2000 when the government decided that these limitations were no longer necessary. Today it is possible, with the proper equipment, for anyone in the world to determine his or her precise location to within about 60 feet. The aristocracy of violence that was assigned to Wonderland (the Queen and the Duchess) as well as the ludicrous mangling of justice in the trial ( Sentence first, then verdict ; the British system indeed at that time in shambles.) are often used as the evidence that Alice belonged to perhaps the genre of political satire more than Carroll had realized. Our moon is believed to have been created about 4.5 billion years ago, when a large planetoid crashed into the Earth, spraying space debris which was gradually captured by gravity 2. Eventually, this material solidified into a body which we know as our moon. 3. This process is unique in our solar system as the other planet s moons were formed by capturing free floating bodies with their gravity 3. Physical Characteristics of the Moon Earth s moon is the brightest object in our night sky. It has an elliptical orbit around the earth every 27.322 days and it also takes approximately ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The gravitational force of the moon is strong enough to exert a pulling force on the Earth, but the Earth is able to hold on to everything except the water 7. As the water is in constant motion the moon gravity is able to create a pull on the water, causing it to bulge resulting in high tide 7. As the Moon and the earth are moving with respect to each other, the force creating high tide also moves over different parts of the earth. Each day, there are two high tides and two low tides, with about 12 hours and 25 minutes between the two high tides 7. However, these periods do not happen at the same time each day because the moon takes about 50 minutes more than earth s 24 hour day to exactly align again with the same point on the Earth. Therefore, the timing of high tides is staggered throughout the month, with each tide occurring approximately 24 hours and 50 minutes later than the previous one 6. It is also observed that the water on the opposite side of Earth which faces away from the Moon also experiences high tide 6. The reason is that the stronger centrifugal force pulls in the opposite direction to negate the moon s gravitational pull on the earth to keep them apart and thus causes the ocean water on the opposite side of the Earth to bulge and experience high tide ... The Wife of Bath, for instance, is looking for her sixth husband, hoping that Som Cristen man shal wed me [her] anoon (WBT 54). Michael Bisping stepped in on two weeks notice and shockingly won the title that Weidman was trying to get back. If Weidman wants to get back to his winning ways, he ll have to be at the top of his game against a young and hungry lion. Gastelum looks like he has finally found a home in the middleweight division after struggling to make weight for fights in the welterweight division. In his last bout, he looked impressive against Belfort, finishing him in the first round and winning Performance of the Night honors. However, the fight was later overturned due to a positive marijuana test. Prior to the Belfort fight, Gastelum dominated Tim Kennedy at UFC 206 with a third round KO, cementing his place in the division. Gastelum, 25 years old, showed tremendous hand speed and the ability to take a punch in both fights, making him a far more dangerous fighter than he s often given credit for. Now fighting at a more comfortable weight, he has shown speed and athleticism that gives him the potential to wreak havoc in the 185 pound division. Gastelum s only losses in the UFC have come by split decision to welterweight champion Tyron Woodley and No. 6 ranked welterweight Neil Magny. Aside Kennedy, he has key victories over Uriah Hall, Johny Hendricks, Nate Marquardt and Jake Ellenberger. A win over Weidman could catapult Gastelum up the middleweight rankings, while a win for Weidman could potentially land him back into ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
