Nutrition And Digestion Essay
1. The stomach is an expandable muscular sac that is capable of holding 2 4 liters of food and liquids
and breaks them down with the use of pepsinogen, an inactive form pepsin, a protein digesting
enzyme. If the stomach was damaged or dysfunctional, then it would be harder to gradually release
food into the small intestine at a rate suitable for proper digestion and absorption and to digest the
food because it is not as small or digested because the stomach also assists in the mechanical and
chemical breakdown of the food as well as the killing of harmful bacteria due to the high acidic
environment due to the hydrochloric acid. (Audesirk, T., Audesirk, G. (1999). Retrieved November

Persuasive Essay On Hurricane Harvey
As our city grieves in the wake of Hurricane Harvey, a category four hurricane that hit Houston as a
tropical storm, our nation is left battling economic and social concerns that will impact the future of
both Texas and America as a whole. As many areas of Houston are transitioning from relief to
rebuilding, our politicians and local leaders need to take hard look at the best path moving forward.
Despite tensions between Texan politicians and the national government, it is to our benefit that we
turn to federal funding to provide for our people. Though we are Houston Strong and were able to act
quickly in helping our neighbors immediately following the devastation, it is imperative that we work
cohesively with the national government to make Texas stronger for the long run. As we begin moving
forward we need to ask ourselves, Do we want to rebuild sooner or better?
As we re trying to move from relief to recovery and rebuilding, it s nearly imperative that we look
back to unveil why this widespread flooding occurred in the first place. If we trace back to the
research of engineers in the 1990 s, it was recorded that the reservoir system was inadequate and
endangered thousands of lives and properties (Thompson). Arthur Storey, Harris County s Flood
Director in 1996, coins the wreckage that lies before us as a massive governmental and engineering
failure (Thompson). Research suggests that we foresaw the potential damage, yet failed to invest in
modern development

Examples Of Agrarian Utopia Pol Pot
Pol Pot s Attempt at a Utopia Imagine being forced out of your hometown, where you had been born,

of Alabama have released a list of seventy five schools, mostly high schools, are considered failing
(Crain 2017). According to decades of research, ineffective teaching of teachers is the biggest problem
in public schools across the nation. Bad teachers don t understand the importance and the impact of
having a good teacher student relationship. Positive teacher student relationships include the presence
of having closeness, warmth and positivity with the students in the classroom (Gallagher 2013). By
having a good teacher student relationship, it positively impacts the student s social and academic
outcomes. Positive relationships with teachers help students with developing self esteem, self concept
and enable students to feel safe in their learning environments. This positive relationship with a
teacher is specifically effective in high poverty urban schools. Students that live in poverty who have a
strong teacher student relationship have higher academic achievement and more positive social

will see this disease in my future career and I also recognize that it is one of the hardest to cope with. I

diagnosis of Alzheimer s disease. This disease puts stress not only on the patient but also on the
caregivers which most likely end up being family. They watch a person they knew their entire life
change into a totally different person and they have to deal with the fact that there is nothing they can
do about it. They only have the ability to remember how that person used to be and realize that the
individual with AD didn t choose to change into the person they are now. The person you once knew
can control their emotions or actions. They say things and do things that they never would have done

Juvenile Crime Statistics Paper
This paper will address and summarize four different points from the juvenile arrests bulletin from
2001. Such points included in the summary are the overall decrease in juvenile arrests, the increase in
drug offenses and simple assaults, implications for juvenile females and minorities, and last an
assessment of the tracking of juvenile arrests as a method of measuring the amount of and trends in
juvenile crime.
In 2001 the juvenile violent crime index arrest rate declined for the seventh consecutive year. The rate
increased dramatically from the late 1980 s through 1994 and then began its steady downward trend.
By 2001 ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The racial composition of juvenile population in 2001 was 78% white, 17% black, 4% Asian/pacific
islander, and 1% American Indian. Most Hispanics (an ethnic designation, not a race) were classified
as white. Black youth were overrepresented in juvenile arrests for violent crimes. All juvenile arrests
for violent crimes break down like this 55% involved white youth, 43% involved black youth, 1%
involved Asian youth, and 1% involved American Indian youth.
Assessment of tracking juvenile arrests and crime is important to know so the government knows what
laws are working and what laws need to be revised. Murder arrests in 2001 were near their lowest
levels since at least 1980 for both white and black youth. Between 1993 and 2001, murder rates for
white juveniles declined 62% while the rate for black juveniles declined 79%. In 2001 the robbery
arrests rates for both black youth and white youth were at a 20 year low. The 2001 aggravated assault
arrest rate for black juveniles was much closer to its 1980 level than was the rate for white juveniles.
The juvenile arrest rates for weapons violations and murder more than doubled between 1987 and the
peak year 1993. After 1993 both rates fell substantially the juvenile arrest rate for weapons law
violations was cut in half falling 49% and returning to the 1987 level. Between 1980 and 1993 the
juvenile arrest rate for drug abuse violations remained within a limited range. Between 1993 and 1997

The Pros And Cons Of Utopia Or Dystopia
It can be argued that much Science Fiction takes place in either utopia or dystopia; they are the
obvious choices for science fiction as they instantly communicate an alternate situation or
environment. Dystopias particularly give the characters the reasons to act, as there is a very definite
need to create a better society. The first known use of the term dystopia appeared in a speech before
the British Parliament by Grey Webber and John Stuart Mill in 1868. In that speech, Mill said,
It is perhaps, too contemporary to call them utopias, they ought rather to be called dystopias or caco
topias. What is commonly called utopian is something too good to be practicable; but what they
appear to favour is too bad to be practicable. (quoted by ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
London is occasionally bombarded but people seem to get accustomed to it. On one hand, there is a
scientific development shown by the use of telescreens, electric machines which are used to shock the
traitor, use of scientific weapons, use of bombs, helicopters and parachutes, but on the other hand,
social crisis is projected through loss of individuality and belongingness, lack of loyalty, the sense of
distrust, constant fear and emotionless world. The scientifically developed world is provided to very
few of the members of the inner party. Class inequality is shown through different quality of the same
thing to be provided to the mass and to the members of the inner party. The mass is constantly
deprived of many of the daily needs as against that the government reduces the price of chocolates.
Food stuffs and other daily requirements are either very expensive or are not available at all. But the
developments by the government are so much propagated by them that they overshadow the

Sympathy And Caged Bird Comparison
Freedom has been an essence to the American people for many decades. Indeed, because of freedom,
America was viewed as an ideal Land of the free by the foreign immigrants, who experienced harsh
voyages through sea to reach America. Furthermore, following the call for freedom, the colonists rose
in defiance to Great Britain in the War of Independence. In the United States, the image of liberty, of
self independence is reflected by many artworks and literary works. Notably, among these artworks,
Caged by Maya Angelou and Sympathy by Paul Laurence Dunbar are the typical examples which
most obviously express the hope of self independence. Although Caged Bird and Sympathy use the
similar literary device caged bird to convey the same message, ... Show more content on

Reading the poem, one shall firstly say that the tones of both works are obviously the same, for
Sympathy and Caged Bird show an alternative order of the tone of melancholy and the tone of delight.
For example, in Sympathy, the first stanza from line 1 to 7 gives the readers a feeling of joy because
of the serene scene sun is bright, springing grass, river flow, yet the next seven lines conveys the
picture of an extreme situation wherein blood is red on the cruel bars, giving the reader a sense of
desperation. In the same way, Angelou also repeated the same pattern in her poem, that the readers can
find tranquility in orange sun rays where free bird leaps from line 1 6 of the first stanza, but sadness in
his narrow cage in the second stanza. Nevertheless, the nuance in both works tones can be inferred in
the last stanzas of Sympathy and Caged Bird. Whereas Sympathy is solemn, but hopeful, Caged Bird
seems to reflect a relinquishment to the circumstance. Specifically, Dunbar expressed his hope that the
bird would be emancipated of his chain and the Black people would live in harmony with the White
people to God on Heaven; thus, a spirit of undefeated desire for freedom and a religious voice can be
found in Sympathy. (15 21) In contrast, in Caged Bird, the bird s spirit is now defeated by its bar as

The Principles and Practice of Moist Wound Healingg
The Principles and Practice of Moist Wound Healing
Abstract
Caring for patients with wounds is commonly encountered in a nurse s career in most health care
settings, whether it is in neonatal, mental health, community, or aged care. In the past, wound
dressings were created to absorb all exudate, believing that dry wounds will reduce the risk of
infection. Within the last fifty years, the concept of moist wound therapy has become the most
effective approach to wound care. Before treating any wound, it is important to discover the
underlying cause and consider other possible factors that may impact on the healing process and
deliver a systematic and rational approach towards wound care assessment. Nurses must have a basic

Describing the overall appearance of the wound is necessary to classify it (Brown amp; Edwards, 200,
p.223). Open wounds can be found in pressure ulcers that involve the skin separating apart, whilst
closed wounds the skin is held together mainly by sutures [FIGURE 1 page 3] (Dealey amp; Cameron,
2008, p.68). Identifying the aetiology correctly also determine if the wound is either acute or chronic
and what depth of the tissue is affected (Brown amp; Edwards, 2008, p.227).

new perspective of the world from a young age fashion encouraged me to try new things and market

with my school s JROTC program to sell candy and other treats to the other students. I took this as an
opportunity to meet and talk to new people, it was also a way to make a little money. Unexpectedly, I
gained so much knowledge about people what they like don t like, how presentation can directly affect
if a potential customer makes a purchase, as well as how important it is to keep up with customers

Influence Of Modern Literature On The Representation Of...
The advent of the modern era ushered in a great demand imagist works and garnered a lot of
popularity, especially in connection to literature. War and all atrocities associated with it were
important focal points for creators of imagist literature and reality had become a very important aspect
to create an impact on the patrons of such literature. In this paper, a parallel will be drawn between
films and poems to show the transition in the representation of war in literature from anti war and
victorian sentiments to realistic depiction of war. In order to do so, I will make references to poems
and films pertaining to the First World War and show the change in representation of the First World
War between 1914 1917 and also post 1917. Influence of Modern poetry in representation of war was
seen in 1914 and the following years very prominently. Until then, most poets would focus on themes
like patriotism, loyalty, honor, love and other positive ideal concepts. It took the occurrence of a world
war for poets to begin looking at war for the horror that it was and letting its reality set in. A very
prominent example of this is Channel Firing by Thomas Hardy. The verses of the poem are as follows,
That night your great guns, unawares,
Shook all our coffins as we lay,
And broke the chancel window squares,
We thought it was the Judgment day
This poem was written by Hardy just after the War had begun. It

Richard Nixon s Involvement In The Watergate Scandal
On August 9, 1974, Richard Nixon resigned from his post as President of the United States of America
in ignominy. His resignation was prompted by mounting accusations of his involvement in the
Watergate scandal, perhaps the biggest scandal the country has ever seen. The Watergate scandal was a
series of events started by the break in to the Democratic Party headquarters by members connected to
the Nixon campaign with the orders to steal confidential plans. President Gerald Ford later issued a
presidential pardon, but many Americans could not forgive Nixon for his involvement. The Watergate

Nixon s accomplishments in domestic affairs still have a positive effect today. The tensions of racism

these domestic programs may be remembered longer than his currently better known activities in the

represent the most positive characteristics of the Nixon phenomenon. In fact, the Age of Nixon that
would end in the denouement of disgrace, actually reached its climax in the area of domestic reform

The African American Civil Right Movement
The African American Civil right movement in the late 1950 s and throughout the 1960 s was a
powerful fight for equal opportunities to the basic rights and privileges outlined by the US
government. During this movement thousands of African American individuals and those who
believed in the power of the movement, battled against the piercing white supremacy through various
tactics including grass root movements. The grass root movements in the 60 s was characterized by
organizations of individuals fighting for equality on the behalf of the African Americans, ultimately
shaping American history. Such movements helped to raise awareness on a political level, of the
injustice all African American s endured. Grassroots activist during the 60 s were able to organize

rooting activism during the Civil Rights Movement in the 60 s shaped American History by aiding in
the abolished laws restricting African American s freedom to vote, the abolishment of segregation in

Sunny Baudelaire Characters
When reading the very long series, A Series of Unfortunate Events, I have found that there are

Baudelaire. I feel like she is a very fun character, and that one of her new hobbies is something I can

her siblings and a knack for biting things with her sharp teeth. But as the series goes on, especially in
The Hostile Hospital and The Slippery Slope, poor Sunny matures very quickly because of all the

The problem itself is not one that can be fixed in a few nights, what has been done to the spheres is
almost irreversible with a few exceptions. The severity of this problem isn t one that can completely
alter the way we live but at the same time every action has an equal opposite reaction. Due to the
frequency of the emissions the spheres can be greatly impacted. Many people have been affected by
these emissions and most of the illnesses given to these people are very damaging or terminal. On
average every 3 7 years a building is repainted and depending on the size of the building many VOCs

Sarbanes Oxley And Fraud Research Paper
Introduction Fraudulent behavior is an increasingly popular choice of lifestyle that everyday affects
the lives of millions, whether they are the perpetrator or the guiltless party both expose themselves to
unwarranted future lifestyles. Undisclosed bonuses and salaries demonstrate the degree of unfairness

Treaty Of Versailles Led To The Failure Of The Weimar...
The Treaty of Versailles required Germany to restore the Saar Basin to France. Subsequently, led to
Germany s industries and citizens to experience hardships. As seen throughout World War I, industries
were a vital part of a country s economy. All the resources within Germany went to the war effort as a
result of total war. Coal fueled the production of Germany s industries and provided employment for
its citizens. Furthermore, coal was the backbone, providing sustainability, of the industrial economy.
The removal of the Saar Basin resulted in, industries experiencing a decrease in production. Forcing
industries to layoff workers as well as increase prices to make up revenue. Reaching new heights
every year, the unemployment rate continued to rise with each increase in the layoff of workers. The
economy then became more unstainable as Germany experienced an inflation of its currency. Due to
the inflation, the currency within Germany became superficial in value. The Weimar party signing the
Treaty of Versailles resulted in the instability of the German economy. Consequently, led the citizens
to question the Weimar Republic s capability. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

The Dark Knight Film Analysis
Burning. Massive flames. A dark shape emerges. Growing. Filling the space with blackness. Blinding
light, moving over the towers of a city. The light closes in on the buildings, consuming them,
consuming you. Can t escape, can t breathe, completely overwhelmed. When suddenly you hear CUT!

Chris Sheldrake, but you would also see some of the same aesthetics in the opening title sequence of

The Dark Knight was the second entry in The Dark Knight Trilogy directed by Christopher Nolan. He

The Effects Of Video Games On Our Culture Today
ABSTRACT
Video games have become a driving force in our culture today, and the effects, both positive and
negative are scrutinized on a daily basis. The violent aspects of this form of media are a cause of
concern, but to what effect remains an important question. This research proposal aims to look at a
gap in the literature on this topic by qualitatively accessing aggression and enjoyment of players based
on varying difficulty levels and numerous genre types available in the market today. The ultimate goal
is to understand if the difficulty is an additional cause for potential aggressive behavior.
INTRODUCTION
In the Entertainment Software Association s 2013 report, information on the video game industry can
summarized as: 1) 59% of Americans play video games, 2) Consumers spent $21.83 billion on video
game hardware/accessories and video games, 3) 48% of all gamers are women, and 4) 51% of US
households own a dedicated console, and those that do own an average of two. (theesa.com, 2014).
The facts speak for themselves: video games have become a significant part of our culture today, and
can also be seen internationally. I personally worked for gaming retailer GameStop for almost 8 years,
and utilizing that knowledge base, I intend to be a part of the growing industry. However, it is
important to understand that the past time so many enjoy can have adverse effects, as legal battles over
the violent content of games have attempted to argue. Various school shootings

colleagues and difficult customers can be a source of stress to many workers. The nursing profession
is also filled with elements that can lead to extreme stress and often times these stress can lead to
health hazards and risks. In this paper, the source of stress in the nursing profession will be evaluated,
What is stress?
To understand the source of stress in the nursing profession, it is important to know the meaning and
nature of stress. According to Tummers (2010) Stress is the feeling people have when they are under
pressure. Stress can also mean the response of the body to pressure or stressors. The body response to
stress is always multi systematic which means that several bodily functions are involved from
metabolism to memory (Gibbons, 2012). Stress affects memory so people become forgetful.
Forgetfulness is a very dangerous consequence of stress in the Nursing profession. If Nurses forget the
amount of dosage to be given to a patient, the result could be fatal.
Stress is not always a bad thing. Stress can improve motivation while low stress job can decreased
motivation. When a job is low stress, employees get bored. Most employees fight boredom by going
to movies or walking in the park. When staffs such as nurses get bored, their motivation to work is
lessened hence their performance level goes down. When, the job is stressful, workers become highly

Frederick Douglass Was An American Abolitionist
Hundreds of years ago, the country we now call the United States of America, was built upon a single
principle; That single principle was freedom. Frederick Douglass was an American abolitionist, a
social reformer who sought to end slavery. Before slavery was abolished in 1865, slaves were not
treated as humans, they were simply seen as property that could be worked to death. Families were
ripped apart, people were working all day long, and humans were being whipped to work faster, this
was the life of a slave. With these tragic events that happened to slaves, Frederick had a goal.
Frederick wanted to abolish slavery once and for all, and for America to acknowledge slavery was a
sin. Frederick had long desired the liberation of all ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This causes the audience to think and conclude that he is logically correct. By swaying the audience
with reasoning, he makes the audience believe that they came to the conclusion by themselves. This
further reinforces his argument that blacks are men. After making the audience come to the conclusion
that blacks are equal men, Frederick further expands on why it s wrong to strip them of their rights. He
does this to prevent any counterarguments, from the audience. Soon after demonstrating that blacks
were men, Frederick declares, What, am I to argue that it is wrong to... such arguments would imply, .
Frederick draws this eidetic imagery in the minds of his audience, the torture that slaves have gone
through, and all the work they have done only to be granted nothing. By doing so, Frederick appeals to
the audience s emotions. With this use of pathos the audience can only feel sympathy towards the
slaves, in addition, his use of rhetorical questions make the audience continuously doubt slavery. He
manages to plants these seeds of doubts into the audience s mind. By doing so, the audience begins to
question slavery and start to see the faults within the system. With the combination of pathos and
logos, Frederick s claims were very hard to deny. He had appealed to the audience through reasoning
and emotions. This had

Movies As A Significant Role In The Entertainment Industry
According to Barbra Dozier s blog, movies play a significant role in the entertainment industry. They
are appealing to the viewer s eyes and ears because they combine both video and audio and they can
be watched at home, in theatres, and thanks to the latest technology one can even watch movies on the
go. Just like many individuals, I too spend my time watching movies as a form of entertainment. The
latest one I watched and enjoyed was a comedy named The House. Although the movie may have had
mediocre reviews, The House was still funny and enjoyable to watch. The plot and conflict revolve
around two struggling parents who cannot afford to send their sure to succeed daughter to college after
the town s scholarship program no longer had funding. As result the parents and a friend started an
illegal underground casino in his domicile in order to make money before the time to pay their
daughter s tuition came around. The rated R movie directed by Andrew Jay Cohen contains many well
known actors such as Will Ferrell, Amy Poehler, and Jason Mantzoukas.
Although there were well known actors the movie revolved around three. Will Ferrell an American
actor and comedian known for playing the elf in Elf ,played the father Scott Johansen. Amy Poehler
plays Kate Johansen the mother and wife in the movie. Known for her role in the sitcom Parks of
Recreation, Poehler brings some of her comical characteristics to the movie making The House much
more enjoyable to watch. Jason Mantzoukas,

Foremost among them was a former prisoner who had served nearly seventeen years behind bars. This
consultant made us aware of what it was like to be a prisoner. He also introduced us to a number of
other ex convicts and correctional personnel during an earlier Stanford summer school class we co
taught on The Psychology of Imprisonment. Our prison was constructed by boarding up each end of a
corridor in the basement of Stanford s Psychology Department building. That corridor was The Yard
and was the only outside place where prisoners were allowed to walk, eat, or exercise, except to go to
the toilet down the hallway (which prisoners did blindfolded so as not to know the way out of the
prison). To create prison cells, we took the doors off some laboratory rooms and replaced them with
specially made doors with steel bars and cell numbers.
At one end of the hall was a small opening through which we could videotape and record the events
that occurred. On the side of the corridor opposite the cells was a small closet which became The
Hole, or solitary confinement. It was dark and very confining, about two feet wide and two feet deep,
but tall enough that a bad prisoner could stand up. An intercom system allowed us to secretly bug the
cells to monitor what the prisoners discussed, and also to make public announcements to the prisoners.

problems that arise with foundationalism, and therefore it offers an alternative or additional means of

But because my first set of beliefs the (more justified set), is more justified it seems more plausible
which makes me more confident in trusting that set, whereas the second one has little evidence and
justification so I cannot believe that over my more coherent knowledge. But how do my beliefs cohere
with one another, for how can you build beliefs based on another, I believe 2+2=4 but how can that
relate to the greenness of grass, and if you are using beliefs to justify others couldn t it just be one big
circular argument that self prophises a whole set of beliefs based a pon itself. And is it really sensible
to reject one set of beliefs simply because of the amount of beliefs I have in another, as the smaller
one could still be true and the evidence more valid than the first. But on the plus side it does seem that
most people in everyday life seem to go with whats most coherent and reject ideas that don t fit, so it
seems sensible to suggest that this is how we aquire knowledge and the system that we keep it in. It
also serves as a good alternative to foundationlism as foundationlism can seem too simplistic and
doesn t explain how beliefs at the top of the pile can justify the bottom. Evaluate the claim that

of the text is to give hope in a new beginning after the events involving the racial tension between the

suffered from these events This poem relates to Aboriginal Australian as it was written by the hand

and I personally was unable to resist the emotions it reverberates however I cannot say whether it

Language is profound for the development of a country, without language there would not be a form

Penalty Shots In Soccer And Field Hockey
Penalty Shots in Soccer and Field Hockey
Why it is easier to score a soccer penalty shot than a field hockey penalty stroke
Ryan Andrew
23.05.2017
11TH Grade Physics
INTRODUCTION
Soccer and field hockey are two of the most widely played field sports in the world. Both sports
involve a team of players moving a ball around a field, and attempting to score in their opposing team
s goal. At certain points in the game, if the opposing team has infringed upon certain rules, soccer
players may take a penalty shot and hockey players a penalty stroke. The penalty shot (soccer)
involves the player kicking the ball from 11m in front of the goal s centre, and attempting to get it past
the goalie, who is the one player allowed to defend against the shot. A penalty stroke (hockey) is
essentially the same as a penalty shot, but the player stands 6.4 metres from the goal centre, and they
hit the ball using a stick. It is believed that it is easier to score a penalty shot in soccer than a penalty
stroke in hockey, for the reasons outlined below.
DISCUSSION
Ball Speed and Goalkeeper reaction time/s:
The average reaction time of a goalie has been previously investigated by Taskin et al., and found to
be 225.59 milliseconds (2016). Secondary data for average ball speeds for field hockey and soccer
were located, and a calculation revealed the amount of time that goalies would have to act in if they
react from when the ball is hit (see journal pages 5 6). These figures would suggest that it would be
easier for a goalie to block the ball, but given that the goalie must move much further to protect the
ends of the goal area, it is, in fact, harder to score past the hockey goalkeeper than the soccer one.
Goal Coverage:
It has been calculated that the ratio of the percentage of the goal covered by the goalie to the
percentage of the goal covered by the ball was, for soccer, 82.14:1, and for hockey it was 827:1 (see
journal pages 3 5). If you are on the attacking team (the team that is attempting the shot), you want
this ratio to be small, as it allows the ball more area to move in that the goalie cannot cover standing
still. As such, it is evidence that it is easier to score a soccer penalty shot than a hockey penalty

Red Badge of Courage Essay
To Be or Not to Be... A Man The Red Badge of Courage written by Stephen Crane is a prime example
of bildungsroman, or a coming of age story. Crane begins with a cowardly boy, Henry Fleming, and
ends with an experienced war hero who has learned not just what war really is, but who he really is.
Mark Twain once said, The fear of death follows from the fear of life. A man who lives fully is
prepared to die at any time. [Epigraph] Although he struggles to learn that being a soldier means more
than just showing up at battle, Henry uses the influences of the attitudes, events, and his own inner
thoughts to complete his metamorphosis psychologically and morally. He also learns that he may have
to sacrifice himself at some point to save ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Henry fights with himself on the issue of if he is ready for this war or not when he contemplates on
whether he would run away during battle or stay in combat. He views the war as almost a dream at
first, visioning marches, sieges, conflicts, hoping that he would encounter challenges like these (Crane
4). He would soon come to find however, that war was nothing like he imagined. This realization
leads to his psychological transformation and growth and sets the stage for Henry s journey of
becoming a man through battles and deaths that prepare him to evolve into the hero he is later. It is
most clearly seen that Henry starts to make this psychological transition from boy to man at the
beginning of his war experience in the story. Henry realizes that a man became another thing in battle
(Crane 19). Although he does not actually demonstrate how he has become another thing in the first
battle when he retreats, Henry becomes more of a fighting man instead of a young boy. This is shown
through his thoughts about how he needs to return to his regiment and stick to what he committed to.
On his journey to escape, the sights he encounters push his development along. Such sights included
were witnessing a dead man in a green chapel and discovering that a red badge is a sign of honor and
an accomplishment in war. It is noticed that he starts to think in terms of a soldier,

The stomach is an expandable muscular sac that is capable of holding 2 4 liters of food and liquids and breaks them down with the use of pepsinogen, an inactive form pepsin, a protein digesting enzyme. If the stomach was damaged or dysfunctional, then it would be harder to gradually release food into the small intestine at a rate suitable for proper digestion and absorption and to digest the food because it is not as small or digested because the stomach also assists in the mechanical and chemical breakdown of the food as well as the killing of harmful bacteria due to the high acidic environment due to the hydrochloric acid. • 4. Persuasive Essay On Hurricane Harvey As our city grieves in the wake of Hurricane Harvey, a category four hurricane that hit Houston as a tropical storm, our nation is left battling economic and social concerns that will impact the future of both Texas and America as a whole. As many areas of Houston are transitioning from relief to rebuilding, our politicians and local leaders need to take hard look at the best path moving forward. Despite tensions between Texan politicians and the national government, it is to our benefit that we turn to federal funding to provide for our people. Though we are Houston Strong and were able to act quickly in helping our neighbors immediately following the devastation, it is imperative that we work cohesively with the national government to make Texas stronger for the long run. As we begin moving forward we need to ask ourselves, Do we want to rebuild sooner or better? As we re trying to move from relief to recovery and rebuilding, it s nearly imperative that we look back to unveil why this widespread flooding occurred in the first place. If we trace back to the research of engineers in the 1990 s, it was recorded that the reservoir system was inadequate and endangered thousands of lives and properties (Thompson). Arthur Storey, Harris County s Flood Director in 1996, coins the wreckage that lies before us as a massive governmental and engineering failure (Thompson). Research suggests that we foresaw the potential damage, yet failed to invest in modern development ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

By having a good teacher student relationship, it positively impacts the student s social and academic outcomes. Positive relationships with teachers help students with developing self esteem, self concept and enable students to feel safe in their learning environments. This positive relationship with a teacher is specifically effective in high poverty urban schools. Students that live in poverty who have a strong teacher student relationship have higher academic achievement and more positive social motional adjustment than those who don t have a positive relationship with their teacher. Studies have found that the teacher student relationships are very important in transition years when students go from elementary to middle school and high school. They found that students that ... • 10. The Pros And Cons Of Utopia Or Dystopia It can be argued that much Science Fiction takes place in either utopia or dystopia; they are the obvious choices for science fiction as they instantly communicate an alternate situation or environment. Dystopias particularly give the characters the reasons to act, as there is a very definite need to create a better society. The first known use of the term dystopia appeared in a speech before the British Parliament by Grey Webber and John Stuart Mill in 1868. In that speech, Mill said, It is perhaps, too contemporary to call them utopias, they ought rather to be called dystopias or caco topias. What is commonly called utopian is something too good to be practicable; but what they appear to favour is too bad to be practicable. (quoted by ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... London is occasionally bombarded but people seem to get accustomed to it. On one hand, there is a scientific development shown by the use of telescreens, electric machines which are used to shock the traitor, use of scientific weapons, use of bombs, helicopters and parachutes, but on the other hand, social crisis is projected through loss of individuality and belongingness, lack of loyalty, the sense of distrust, constant fear and emotionless world. The scientifically developed world is provided to very few of the members of the inner party. Class inequality is shown through different quality of the same thing to be provided to the mass and to the members of the inner party. The mass is constantly deprived of many of the daily needs as against that the government reduces the price of chocolates. • 11. Sympathy And Caged Bird Comparison Freedom has been an essence to the American people for many decades. Indeed, because of freedom, America was viewed as an ideal Land of the free by the foreign immigrants, who experienced harsh voyages through sea to reach America. Furthermore, following the call for freedom, the colonists rose in defiance to Great Britain in the War of Independence. In the United States, the image of liberty, of self independence is reflected by many artworks and literary works. Notably, among these artworks, Caged by Maya Angelou and Sympathy by Paul Laurence Dunbar are the typical examples which most obviously express the hope of self independence. Although Caged Bird and Sympathy use the similar literary device caged bird to convey the same message, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Reading the poem, one shall firstly say that the tones of both works are obviously the same, for Sympathy and Caged Bird show an alternative order of the tone of melancholy and the tone of delight. For example, in Sympathy, the first stanza from line 1 to 7 gives the readers a feeling of joy because of the serene scene sun is bright, springing grass, river flow, yet the next seven lines conveys the picture of an extreme situation wherein blood is red on the cruel bars, giving the reader a sense of desperation. In the same way, Angelou also repeated the same pattern in her poem, that the readers can find tranquility in orange sun rays where free bird leaps from line 1 6 of the first stanza, but sadness in his narrow cage in the second stanza. Nevertheless, the nuance in both works tones can be inferred in the last stanzas of Sympathy and Caged Bird. Whereas Sympathy is solemn, but hopeful, Caged Bird seems to reflect a relinquishment to the circumstance. Specifically, Dunbar expressed his hope that the bird would be emancipated of his chain and the Black people would live in harmony with the White people to God on Heaven; thus, a spirit of undefeated desire for freedom and a religious voice can be found in Sympathy. (15 21) In contrast, in Caged Bird, the bird s spirit is now defeated by its bar as the African ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 12. The Principles and Practice of Moist Wound Healingg The Principles and Practice of Moist Wound Healing Abstract Caring for patients with wounds is commonly encountered in a nurse s career in most health care settings, whether it is in neonatal, mental health, community, or aged care. In the past, wound dressings were created to absorb all exudate, believing that dry wounds will reduce the risk of infection. Within the last fifty years, the concept of moist wound therapy has become the most effective approach to wound care. Before treating any wound, it is important to discover the underlying cause and consider other possible factors that may impact on the healing process and deliver a systematic and rational approach towards wound care assessment. • 14. I Want To Pursue A Degree In High School Fashion has always been my outlet. As a soft spoken southern girl, my style has always been my way to break free and boldly show a part of myself that was hidden behind my shy demeanor. Giving me a new perspective of the world from a young age fashion encouraged me to try new things and market myself. Freshmen year of high school I turned those new skills and courage into actions by working with my school s JROTC program to sell candy and other treats to the other students. • 15. Influence Of Modern Literature On The Representation Of... The advent of the modern era ushered in a great demand imagist works and garnered a lot of popularity, especially in connection to literature. War and all atrocities associated with it were important focal points for creators of imagist literature and reality had become a very important aspect to create an impact on the patrons of such literature. In this paper, a parallel will be drawn between films and poems to show the transition in the representation of war in literature from anti war and victorian sentiments to realistic depiction of war. In order to do so, I will make references to poems and films pertaining to the First World War and show the change in representation of the First World War between 1914 1917 and also post 1917. Influence of Modern poetry in representation of war was seen in 1914 and the following years very prominently. Until then, most poets would focus on themes like patriotism, loyalty, honor, love and other positive ideal concepts. It took the occurrence of a world war for poets to begin looking at war for the horror that it was and letting its reality set in. A very prominent example of this is Channel Firing by Thomas Hardy. The verses of the poem are as follows, That night your great guns, unawares, Shook all our coffins as we lay, And broke the chancel window squares, We thought it was the Judgment day This poem was written by Hardy just after the War had begun. The Watergate scandal was a series of events started by the break in to the Democratic Party headquarters by members connected to the Nixon campaign with the orders to steal confidential plans. President Gerald Ford later issued a presidential pardon, but many Americans could not forgive Nixon for his involvement. Sunny Baudelaire Characters When reading the very long series, A Series of Unfortunate Events, I have found that there are multiple characters that peak my interests when reading and are very rememberable. From a woman who only likes things that are in , to a dastardly Count, and to the news reporter that ruins the main trio s lives. But I have found that my favorite character is one of the three main characters, Sunny Baudelaire. I feel like she is a very fun character, and that one of her new hobbies is something I can relate to. Sunny Baudelaire originally starts off, as a helpless baby who no one can understand except her siblings and a knack for biting things with her sharp teeth. But as the series goes on, especially in The Hostile Hospital and The Slippery Slope, poor Sunny matures very quickly because of all the horrible events that have occurred in her life because of the notorious Count Olaf. In the tenth book, The Slippery Slope, after concocting a plan to find the mysterious Sugar Bowl, Sunny tells her sister Violet that, I m not... I m not a baby (Snicket 10 ). The violent aspects of this form of media are a cause of concern, but to what effect remains an important question. This research proposal aims to look at a gap in the literature on this topic by qualitatively accessing aggression and enjoyment of players based on varying difficulty levels and numerous genre types available in the market today. The ultimate goal is to understand if the difficulty is an additional cause for potential aggressive behavior. Our prison was constructed by boarding up each end of a corridor in the basement of Stanford s Psychology Department building. That corridor was The Yard and was the only outside place where prisoners were allowed to walk, eat, or exercise, except to go to the toilet down the hallway (which prisoners did blindfolded so as not to know the way out of the prison). To create prison cells, we took the doors off some laboratory rooms and replaced them with specially made doors with steel bars and cell numbers. At one end of the hall was a small opening through which we could videotape and record the events that occurred. On the side of the corridor opposite the cells was a small closet which became The Hole, or solitary confinement. It was dark and very confining, about two feet wide and two feet deep, but tall enough that a bad prisoner could stand up. • 38. Penalty Shots In Soccer And Field Hockey Penalty Shots in Soccer and Field Hockey Why it is easier to score a soccer penalty shot than a field hockey penalty stroke Ryan Andrew 23.05.2017 11TH Grade Physics INTRODUCTION Soccer and field hockey are two of the most widely played field sports in the world. Both sports involve a team of players moving a ball around a field, and attempting to score in their opposing team s goal. At certain points in the game, if the opposing team has infringed upon certain rules, soccer players may take a penalty shot and hockey players a penalty stroke. The penalty shot (soccer) involves the player kicking the ball from 11m in front of the goal s centre, and attempting to get it past the goalie, who is the one player allowed to defend against the shot. A penalty stroke (hockey) is essentially the same as a penalty shot, but the player stands 6.4 metres from the goal centre, and they hit the ball using a stick. It is believed that it is easier to score a penalty shot in soccer than a penalty stroke in hockey, for the reasons outlined below. DISCUSSION Ball Speed and Goalkeeper reaction time/s: The average reaction time of a goalie has been previously investigated by Taskin et al., and found to be 225.59 milliseconds (2016). Secondary data for average ball speeds for field hockey and soccer were located, and a calculation revealed the amount of time that goalies would have to act in if they react from when the ball is hit (see journal pages 5 6). These figures would suggest that it would be easier for a goalie to block the ball, but given that the goalie must move much further to protect the ends of the goal area, it is, in fact, harder to score past the hockey goalkeeper than the soccer one. Goal Coverage: It has been calculated that the ratio of the percentage of the goal covered by the goalie to the percentage of the goal covered by the ball was, for soccer, 82.14:1, and for hockey it was 827:1 (see journal pages 3 5). If you are on the attacking team (the team that is attempting the shot), you want this ratio to be small, as it allows the ball more area to move in that the goalie cannot cover standing still. As such, it is evidence that it is easier to score a soccer penalty shot than a hockey penalty ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 39. Red Badge of Courage Essay To Be or Not to Be... A Man The Red Badge of Courage written by Stephen Crane is a prime example of bildungsroman, or a coming of age story. Crane begins with a cowardly boy, Henry Fleming, and ends with an experienced war hero who has learned not just what war really is, but who he really is. Mark Twain once said, The fear of death follows from the fear of life. A man who lives fully is prepared to die at any time. [Epigraph] Although he struggles to learn that being a soldier means more than just showing up at battle, Henry uses the influences of the attitudes, events, and his own inner thoughts to complete his metamorphosis psychologically and morally. He also learns that he may have to sacrifice himself at some point to save ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Henry fights with himself on the issue of if he is ready for this war or not when he contemplates on whether he would run away during battle or stay in combat. He views the war as almost a dream at first, visioning marches, sieges, conflicts, hoping that he would encounter challenges like these (Crane 4). He would soon come to find however, that war was nothing like he imagined. This realization leads to his psychological transformation and growth and sets the stage for Henry s journey of becoming a man through battles and deaths that prepare him to evolve into the hero he is later. It is most clearly seen that Henry starts to make this psychological transition from boy to man at the beginning of his war experience in the story. Henry realizes that a man became another thing in battle (Crane 19). Although he does not actually demonstrate how he has become another thing in the first battle when he retreats, Henry becomes more of a fighting man instead of a young boy. This is shown through his thoughts about how he needs to return to his regiment and stick to what he committed to. On his journey to escape, the sights he encounters push his development along. Such sights included were witnessing a dead man in a green chapel and discovering that a red badge is a sign of honor and an accomplishment in war. It is noticed that he starts to think in terms of a soldier, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
