Sputnik 2 Research Paper
This provides reason to looking into the question of why the Germans didn t pursue their massive
advantage in the realm of outer space discovery after World War II came to an end. The end of World
War II caused turmoil to occur in Germany. Millions of German natives were forced to migrate and
relocate from areas that would be considered as prewar Germany to areas that would be considered as
postwar Germany. Many Germans were sent to labor camps. The shifting in boundaries, nationalities
and population size changed quite a bit for the nation that suffered the loss of two major wars back to
back. Following the war, the nation went through a phase of reconstruction and rebirth as they
recovered from the mass destruction and barbaric Nazism that ... Show more content on

The United States announced the intent of launching satellites into outer space, but would require
some time. However, two months following the announcement, the USSR, determined to prove her
supremacy in both ideology and technology, launched the Sputnik 1, the first artificial satellite known
and made by mankind. Following Sputnik 1, the Soviets launched another satellite outer space,
Sputnik 2. Sputnik 2 also carried a living being into outer space. This Soviet discovery frightened the
United States even further, as this was a sure way to guarantee the accomplishment of taking a human
into outer space was indeed possible. The living passenger aboard the new satellite was a dog, by the
name of Laika. The space craft was equipped with various technology to ensure the safety of the dog.
The life support system consisted of a machine to generate oxygen, and other devices that made sure
to absorb the carbon dioxide in the air and also prevent Laika from experiencing oxygen poisoning.
The temperature was to be maintained by a fan that would turn on when the cabin of the spacecraft
exceeded about 59 degrees Fahrenheit. There was a supply of food, and a bag fitted to her to collect
waste. An electrocardiogram monitored Laika s heart rate, along with another device to track her
respiration rate, artery pressure, and her movements. This feat, however did not end with the victory
intended. Laika died on the fourth day of the journey. The reason behind her death was debated for
several years. Some scientists claim she died from oxygen poisoning, while others say her food was
euthanized. However, few years later, a Soviet rocket scientist wrote a letter to Houston, claiming that
the dog died from over heat, as it was impossible to create an aircraft that contained a steady
temperature, or to create devices to regulate and maintain a steady temperature in the time constraint
given. The

A Family Of Transcription Factors
Introduction
1. The Grainyhead (Grh) gene family
Grainyhead (Grh) genes are conserved in metazoans. They encode a family of transcription factors
with a unique, unusually large, DNA binding and dimerization domain, and an isoleucine rich
activation domain(Attardi and Tjian, 1993; Gustavsson et al., 2008; Moussian and Uv, 2005; Ting et
al., 2003b; Uv et al., 1994; Venkatesan et al., 2003; Wilanowski et al., 2002). Grh factors were first
identified in Drosophila (Bray et al., 1989; Bray and Kafatos, 1991; Dynlacht et al., 1989; Johnson et
al., 1989) and since then, they were also found in animals as diverse as nematodes and humans. Grh
proteins have not yet been detected in unicellular organisms. Phylogenetic analysis subdivides this
gene family into two main classes, the Grh like sub family and the CP2 sub family, depending whether
the family members are more related to the Drosophila grh, or to another Drosophila gene, CP2 (Ting
et al., 2003b; Venkatesan et al., 2003; Wilanowski et al., 2002). The fly and worm genomes each
contain a single grh gene. Mammals, both mice and humans, have evolved three Grh homologues: Grh
like 1 (Grhl 1, or Mammalian Grainyhead (MGR)/TFCP2L2), Grhl 2 (Brother of MGR
(BOM)/TFCP2L3) and Grhl 3 (Sister of MGR (SOM)/ TFCP2L4). This group of genes encodes
proteins with highly homologous DNA binding and dimerization domains. They all show restricted
expression pattern during embryogenesis and play important roles in organogenesis and epidermal

Zinc Ores During The World After Iron, Aluminum, And Copper
Introduction
Zinc is currently the fourth most widely consumed metal in the world after iron, aluminum, and
copper. In nature, zinc ores could be divided into sulphide minerals and oxide minerals. Zinc is
extracted mostly from zinc sulfide ores. With depletion of global resources of zinc sulfides as well as
the restriction on sulfur emissions during their processing, there is an increasing focus on the
processing of the huge reserves of zinc oxide ores (Li et al., 2010).
Thomas and Fray (1981) studied leaching of oxide zinc materials with chlorine and chlorine hydrate.
They found that the rate of leaching of the Adrar Turkish ore could be described using a shrinking core
diffusion model, and that the rate of leaching was controlled by surface reaction. In all cases studied,
lead was also leached with zinc. However, iron oxides remained virtually undissolved. Frenay (1985)
investigated leaching of oxidized zinc ores in various solution media and obtained the best leaching
results with sulfuric acid and caustic soda. Mineralogical studies showed that smithsonite can be
completely leached but hemimorphite is relatively refractory to leaching. Abdel Aal (2000) studied the
kinetics of sulfuric acid leaching of low grade zinc silicate ore and reported that about 94% of zinc can
be leached after 180 min of reaction with 10% sulfuric acid at 70°C. Espiari et al., 2006 studied
hydrometallurgical treatment of tailings with high zinc content using sulfuric acid and reported that

demonstrate how the Social Determinants of Health (SDOH) directly impacts health. As described in
Appendix A, Mrs. Smith is a 68 year old female who was diagnosed with type I diabetes mellitus 37
years ago. She presented in hospital with a pressure ulcer on her left foot, which has increasingly
worsened and become necrotic in certain areas. This pressure ulcer has also impacted her ability to

Decreased education increases participation in such activities as smoking, alcohol consumption and
illicit drug use. It also results in medication misuse. Overall, studies have noted that health literacy
creates significantly improved outcomes in terms of prevention and disease management. Health
literacy is an important aspect to consider in terms of future policies since research has indicated that
almost fifty percent of the Canadian population has inadequate health literacy. By cultivating health
literacy and education, this can solve the disparities found within the Canadian healthcare system

The U.S. Legal System: A Short Description
Federal Judicial Center background The U.S. Constitution establishes a federal system of government.
The constitution gives specific powers to the federal (national) government. All power not delegated
to the federal government remains with the states. Each of the 50 states has its own state constitution,
governmental structure, legal codes, and judiciary. The U.S. Constitution establishes the judicial
branch of the federal government and specifies the authority of the federal courts. Federal courts have

executive branches. To insure judicial independence, the judicial branches of the federal and state
governments control the administration of the courts. Court administration includes managing court
budgets, prescribing rules of trial and appellate procedure, reviewing judicial discipline matters,
offering continuing educational programs for judges, and studying court performance. In the federal
judiciary, the Judicial Conference of the United States, made up of 27 members (the Chief Justice of
the United States and 26 judges from each geographic region of the United States) has overall
administrative responsibility for the courts and has primary authority to make policy regarding the

Praetorian Guard Research Paper
The Praetorian Guard was the elite private militia, originally put in place in order to guard the Roman
generals. During 27 BCE, under Princeps Augustus reign, the Praetorian guard became a permanent
bodyguard for the Emperors consisting of nine cohorts, altogether totally to over 4500 men enlisted in
the protection of himself and his family. Following Augustus death, the nature and structure of the
Praetorian began to change, the most significant of these changes occurring under the reign of
Tiberius, aided by Praetorian prefect Sejanus; the Praetorian guard gained a political voice and the
ability to aid in the accession and conclusion of an Emperors reign, in addition to the ability to commit
crimes without penalty. By the 2 century AD, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Prefect Sejanus used his relationship with Princeps Tiberius in order to achieve supremacy over Rome,
succeeding in ruling over Rome in partnership with the Emperor, thus connecting the power of the
Senate with that of the Guard. Upon Sejanus downfall and Macro s assumption to Prefect, the
relationship between the Principate and the Praetorian Guard once again strengthened, as the societies
perception of the apparent heir Gaius was moulded by his close relationship with Macro. However,
this relationship became strained, as Gaius feared the power the Guard had over Rome and eventually
resulted in the killing of Macro and his wife. The development of the Principate was largely changed
in 51 AD when Burrus assumed the position of Prefect, and as Nero became the Princeps. Burrus,
alongside Seneca, undertook many of the burdens from the Princeps, regulating imperial policies and
administration duties, further cementing the Praetorian Guards judicial role and the change in the
Principates responsibilities. The Praetorian Guard evolved from being the bodyguards of the Empire
to becoming advisors to the Princeps, thus changing the role of the Principate and their relationships

Feminist Feminism
The women that march around burning bras, hating men, and denying to shave their body hair. A
perfect definition for a feminist, right? Wrong. If you do not agree with feminism, it could possibly be
because everything you know about it is wrong. According to a poll conducted by PerryUndem in
2015, a research and communications firm, 85 percent of Americans believe in equality for women.
Yet, only 18 percent of respondents identified as a feminist. Evidently, it is a belief that is wildly
misunderstood and learning more about it could change one s perception of the world completely. The
basic assumption shared by all feminists is that women suffer certain injustices on account of their
sex. Feminists stress the importance of gender divisions in society and it simply portrays these
divisions as working to the overall advantage of men. Although feminists are united with their
common desire for sexual justice and their concern for women s welfare, there is a range spectrum of
feminist views that many are uneducated on. Many do not know that anyone can be a feminist
regardless of age, religion, or gender.
A common misconception about feminism is that it is strictly for a certain type of person. Myths about
feminists include the standards that being feminists means being homosexual women who hate men,
which is so far from the truth. Though many men, and even some women deny the fact that they are a
feminist because of this, it is because they have their own false perceptions on

How Did Geography Affect Where Colonists Settled Essay
Beginning in 1607, when ambitious English colonists settled in Jamestown, and continuing until the
last of the thirteen colonies was established; geography was a substantial factor in the development of
colonial America. The crops that essentially saved the colonists lives, such as tobacco, rice, and
indigo, wouldn t have grown without a certain type and amount of soil to grow properly. Also, the
Appalachian Mountains and the dense forests provided a barrier for the colonists, preventing them
from going too far west right away, and causing the colonies to form in the arrangement they did.
Finally, the population was the most dense in middle colonies, such as New York, New Jersey,
Delaware, and Pennsylvania partly because of the mild ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This, in turn, made it so that the population were more dense, and there was a higher concentration of
people. The dense forests of the eastern seaboard disallowed for large cities to be created right away.
This geological factor forced colonists to spread out within the perimeters of the Appalachian
Mountains and the Atlantic Ocean, without being too close together. Both of these factors could be
overlooked easily enough, but did have a reasonable impact of the development of colonial America.
Finally, the geography of the middle colonies, such as New York, New Jersey, Delaware, and
Pennsylvania played a big role on the development and population of this area. In the sixteen and
seventeen hundreds, the above colonies were the most populated of the thirteen establishments. There
was plentiful and fertile soil, in which tobacco was heavily grown. The Susquehanna River also
flowed through this region, opening the possibility of fur trade. Other minor rivers that were found in
the middle colonies were gentle, which provided for easy transportation and fishing. The land in the
middle colonies was broad and expansive, making it easy for even the middle class residents to create
an enjoyable and profitable lifestyle. In conclusion, there were many factors that contributed to the
development of the colonial America, but geography was clearly a sizable influence. If the geography
of America wasn t the way it was, the colonists who settled here may have not survived as

Archetypes in Siddhartha
In analyzing the novel Siddhartha, we find that Herman Hesse has incorporated many literary
techniques to relay his message to the reader. By using various writing approaches to convey the
theme of the novel, Hesse appeals to the readers senses and aides them in grasping the novel. Included
in these techniques are symbolism, metaphor, allusion, and archetypes. He compares many issues that
Siddhartha faces to everyday objects and forces, making the novel easier to understand. Three of the
main archetypes
Hesse uses to get his point across are trees, rivers, and sleep. One of the more obvious symbols used in
the novel is a tree. Cross culturally, it is extremely common for trees to represent wisdom. In Hebrew
literature, when ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In several instances is the novel, Siddhartha falls asleep (the reader should also note that this usually
occurs under a tree) and wakes up anewed with a new outlook on life.
Then he had fallen asleep, and on awakening he looked at the world like a new man.... Never had a
sleep so refreshed him, so renewed him, so rejuvenated him! (76)
Just as in the traditional English story A Christmas Carol, where Scrooge goes to bed and wakes up a
new man after a series of nightmares, many authors have used the metaphor of sleep to show
emotional growth in their characters. Another case in point is Kate Chopin s book on a woman s self
discovery appropriately titled The Awakening.
Just like these authors, Hesse proves to be no stranger to this choice of symbolism. He illustrates quite
effectively and allows the reader to notice and reflect on Siddhartha s personal development on more
than one level. It is easy to see that many cross cultural themes were brought into Siddhartha.
Through writing on more than one level, Hesse has created a literary masterpiece that is extremely
deep and meaningful. The application of the symbols he chose makes some of the themes in the novel
easier to see and decipher. Using the archetypes that he did makes the novel one that many
civilizations will read and understand for generations to come. Works Cited

Islamic predecessors. These empires existed in some of the same and different eras and physical
locations in the world; the Ottoman Empire existed in the 13th century through the 20th century in the

Negative Effects On Teenagers
More often now than in the past decades you may hear parents say, they grow up so fast , referring to
adolescent children. A big reason for this is that mature content is more accessible to the youth now
than it was several years ago. A couple decades ago things like a half naked actress seen on tv was not
something expected, but now stuff like that is becoming the norm . Kids use to play outside but now
they sit inside playing video games and watching TV, Do the parents know what their children are
being exposed to? Children are exposed to sexual materials in music, movies, television shows, and
other forms of media at earlier, premature ages, and this kind of experience can harm their mental
health far beyond their youth.
With access to the internet becoming more widespread, children may intentionally or accidently be
exposed to an indefinite amount of uncensored adult material. Some may argue that they don t
understand what it means, but nonetheless the images they re exposed to can leave an everlasting
impression in their early year memories. Studies have brought forward the information that children as
young as 8 and 9 years old are coming in contact with sexually explicit material through the internet
and other forms of visual media. Researchers are just now investigating the potential damage that it
can do to a young adolescent mind. Researchers believe that early exposure to mature content,
especially sexually explicit material, can lead to the following

investor, design construction, find contractor, phase of construction, meet the requirements which
investment needs to be in use and complete facility.
All these aspects are associated with large amounts of documents, permits.
In this essay will be described various types of contracts between the investor and the contractor.

Depending on the confidence of the contractor on its own estimates and its propensity on risk, a
contractor can slightly raise the unit prices on the underestimated tasks while lowering the unit prices
on other tasks. If the contractor is correct in its assessment, it can increase its profit substantially since
the payment is made on the actual quantities of tasks; and if the reverse is true, it can lose on this
basis.
Negotiated contracts
An owner can enter into contract with a constructor by negotiating the price and method of
reimbursement. This type can during the contract enter into fixed price or unit price contract. * Cost
Plus Fixed Percentage Contract
For certain types of construction involving new technology or extremely pressing needs, the owner is
sometimes forced to assume all risks of cost overruns. The contractor will receive the actual direct job
cost plus a fixed percentage, and have little incentive to reduce job cost. Furthermore, if there are
pressing needs to complete the project, overtime payments to workers are common and will further
increase the job cost. * Cost Plus Fixed Fee/ Variable Percentage Contract
Under this type of contract, the contractor will receive the actual direct job cost plus a fixed fee, and
will have some incentive to complete the job quickly since its fee is fixed regardless

Public Health, Safety, And The Environment
Since there is such a large amount of food waste, where does it go? Although not all food waste ends
up in landfills, there is a large amount that does. Studies show that food wastage in 2007 represented
the production of 1.4 billion hectares of land, equal to about 30 % of the world s agricultural land area,
and larger than the surface of Canada ( Global Food Wastage ). With landfills taking up such a large
percentage of land, there is less land for farmers, housing, and other resources. Landfills also give off
multiple dangerous chemicals. For example, landfills give off greenhouse gases, dioxins, furans, and
mercury ( Public Health, Safety, and the Environment ). Landfills are also a severe cause of
deforestation. Also, landfills take ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
An example would be the rise in the migration to urban areas and rapid changes in what foods are
wanted by consumers. As people begin to move into urban areas, the amount of farmers and help
begin decreasing. Research has proven that the popularity for urban environments is in a constant rise.
Sadly, recent observations have concluded that the proportion of the world s population employed in
agriculture has declined in recent decades and 50 per cent of the world s population now lives in urban
environments. This proportion is expected to rise to 70 per cent by 2050 (Parfitt et al., Food Waste
within Food Supply Chains ). Being in shape or skinny has been important for many years. Seventy
seven percent of America s population is trying to lose or maintain their weight ( Americans
Concerned about Their Weight ). A fad diet is a popular diet that usually known for success. Fad diets
usually change the foods consumed by the dieter. As the fads change, so does the demand for different
types of food. As the demand for one food item increases, the demand of others decrease. Due to the
constant changes, it is extremely difficult for farmers to plan what they need to grow. As farmers fail
to predict the amount of crops needed, the extra food is more likely to become waste. As the
predictability changes, farmers cannot make profit. This also leads to the decline of farms.

For This Project, I Worked With Brandon Bowers To Begin
For this project, I worked with Brandon Bowers to begin a donation food drive for the local domestic

picked the Bernard House in late March. When I called, they said that they always needed
nonperishable food items, and there was a list of items they were asking for during an Easter food
drive that we used in our flyers. On April 5th, I got in contact with a local grocery store and picked up
boxes for us to put all of the nonperishable food in. On April 9th, I decorated all of the boxes and

sexual assault and intimate partner violence, I thought that helping women who have been victims of
such violence would be very important work. I found the Bernard House, which is very close to
campus, and got in contact with them. This project has elicited a mix of happiness and frustration. It
made me really happy when people were receptive to what we were trying to do. Having professors
around campus be very supportive and encouraging when we asked to place boxes in their buildings,
as well as the student support we received as we passed out flyers, explained the project, and asked for
donations, was very rewarding. On occasion, students would tell us how much they appreciated our
project because it was for such a good cause, and many students donated money, which I was not
expecting because of the general lack of cash that college students carry around with them. I feel very
passionate about helping these women, and I want this donation drive to be very helpful for the
shelter. So, when people showed the same passion for the cause, it was very driving and affirming.

need to learn what goes into determining the price of a used car to understand how to negotiate the
best price for yourself too. This guide will help you when you re buying or selling a used car.
Terminology
Dealer Retail Price
The used car dealer will want to sell the vehicle at the highest possible price. It s the price listed on the
buying guide or on the windshield in bright numbers. The retail price isn t the last price that a dealer
will take. It s often the starting place for negotiations.
It s also a higher price than a person would receive on a trade in to the dealership. The dealer has to be

It s the price at the beginning of negotations. A private seller will often list their asking price when
selling a used car.
You can certainly ask a private seller if they are willing to negotiate. Some private sellers will tell you
in their advertisements if they re willing to negotiate. It ll have the price and the words or best offer
after them. This means they are willing to discuss the final selling price.
Blue Book Value
When someone mentions the blue book value of the car, they are referring to the Kelley Blue Book
value. It s a list of cars based on model, year and condition as well as trade in prices.
While some people believe it s a price set in stone, it s only a pricing guide. Consumer reports, the
National Automobile Dealers Association and VMR has pricing guides too. When you check several
of these sources, you can pin down a more accurate price for a vehicle.
Trade In Price

Suburbanisation in Surbiton Essay
Surbition London
Surbiton is a small borough in the South West of London just South of Kingston Upon Thames. It has
a population of nearly 170,000 people and has been at the centre of suburbanisation for many years
now. Much of the growth is form the centre of London
Timeline
1830 Train line between London and Southampton was built which ran near Surbiton.
1837 till 1952 The population of Surbiton grew from 200 to 2800.
1887 At this point the population was at just above 10000.
1930 A large amount of houses were built along in the centre of the village that were large houses and
a series of smaller houses were built going towards the River Thames increasing the population size
further.

This causes a lot of congestion at peak times and larger vehicles such as buses and lorries cannot pass
through. Surbiton is in London travel zone 6 (zone 1 is centre of London and zone 6 covers the edge
of London), which means that train fares are quite expensive. This means that many people (40% of
Surbiton) choose to drive to work and this in turn increases the amount of traffic on the roads and
increases pollution along the roads connecting to the A3 (main road into London). The house prices
are quite high in Surbiton, the average selling price in Surbiton in 2012 was £406,000 compared to the
national average of £226,000. This makes in increasingly difficult for people on lower incomes to
move to the area which could lead to economic segregation (people with high incomes living in
different areas to those with a lower income). Another problem that was a recurring theme in the 1930
s was that people were becoming extremely ill as they couldn t afford medical attention because of the
prices they were paying for their houses along with their food and other essentials.
Management of the problems
The improvement strategy for Surbiton town centre was launched in the autumn of 2009. The strategy
involved widening a number of roads in the town, building a new access road to the station, having set
delivery times for shops so roads didn t get congested as badly and delivery bays could

Mammoth Cave 1790s
Mammoth Cave located in South Central Kentucky was found in the 1790 s by Robert Houchins. Mr.
Houchins happened upon the cave while chasing a bear that had entered the cave. Mammoth Cave is
390 miles long, which makes it the longest cave in the world. Even if the world s second and third
longest caves were combined together, Mammoth Cave would still be approximately 100 miles longer.
This cave was so named because of its size, not because of the wooly mammals of the past (Kerstetter,
n.d.). There are five unique characteristics that make this cave so long, including karst setting, the
Green River Valley, limestone, vertical shafts, and sandstone caprock. Karst setting is formed from

Stalactites hang from the ceiling and look like icicles. They are formed when water flowing into the
cave form calcite and leaks through the ceiling cracks. Stalagmites grow up from the floor as the water
continues to drip from the Stalactites. Stalactites and stalagmites are often found growing together and
will sometimes form a column (Kids Discover 2013). Helicities form on the cave s ceiling and walls
and can take on many forms and looks, including curly spaghetti looks or thick antler looks. Helicities
are an irregular stalactite that have branches at different angles and thicknesses (Bunnell, 2005).
Gypsum is a calcium sulfate mineral found in dry sections of the cave. This mineral can be colorless,

Not only does he alter his claims, Humbert was also found to be blatantly lying to other people.
Shortly after Charlotte Haze s death he is met by the Farlows and is able to subtly convince them that
he is Lolita s actual father. Jean Farlow says, John, she is his child, not Harold Haze s. Don t you
understand? Humbert is Dolly s real father (Nabokov 101). Humbert is able to convince Jean by
telling her that he had an affair with Charlotte years ago. Jean is completely convinced as seen in her
statement towards her husband. She is repetitive in mentioning that Humbert is Lolita s father. In
addition she asks her husband if he is able to follow what she is trying to say. Humbert managed to
convince her that he is Lolita s true father which completely removes any suspicions on what he plans
to do with Lolita. If Humbert failed to convince her, they might have questioned who should take
custody of Lolita thus ending Humbert s plans. Seeing that Humbert can convince others of untruthful
things there is no guarantee in the legitimacy of what he tells the reader. Making it difficult for readers

Managing The Development Of Large Software Systems
Managing the development of large software systems
Introduction
This book is published by Dr. Winston W.Royce, he will be describing his own personal views about
managing large software development. He has had many different varieties of success in each of his
assignments such as arriving the project on time, within the costs and in the correct operational state.
When making a computer program there are two essential steps that are required to make a successful
program, these two main steps are the Analysis this is where you will have to analyse the requirements
of the software, the second step is the Coding. This figure is all that is required if it is going to be for
internal use as everyone will be familiar with it. If you are going to ... Show more content on

This means that a simple patch to the code will not fix these problems. The changes are likely to be
extremely disruptive that the system requirements that the program was built on will be violated. This
will mean the requirements will have to be modified and a major redesign will have to happen.
The preliminary program design phase is inserted in between the software requirements phase and the
analysis phase. By using this technique the designer will assure that the software will not fail because
of timing, storage and data flux reasons. There are 3 steps that you will have to do to implement this
procedure. 1, Begin the design process with program designers. 2, Design define and allocate the data
processing modes. 3, Write an overview document this means that everyone must at least have a slight
understanding of the system and there should be one person with deep understanding of the system.
The seventh figure shows that if the program is being developed for the first time, arrange matters so
that when the final build of the program is delivered to the customer it is actually the second version
as the first one is a simulation of it.
Royce view on documentation is that the more documentation the better. He says that when he is
called upon to review a documentation the first step that he does is investigate the state of the
documentation, if the documentation is in serious default he recommends that the project management
is replaced. He says that

A Research Study On Regenerative Medicine
Aging, injuries and diseases like dystrophies are all ensue respectively from dying, damaged or
malfunctioning specialised cells. Nowadays, researchers aim at finding possible methods to treat
patients by understanding better how diseases develop. Regenerative medicine is an emerging field
that had known incredible advances over the last 20 years. It s a broad interdisciplinary field aiming at
repairing, regenerating or replacing damaged, malfunctioning or missing cells and tissues leading to
restore normal function in patients. The remarkable progresses made in stem cell therapy, gene therapy
and bioengineering, and the intersection of these domains are the basis of this developing (promising,

The basis of tissue engineering involves the production of stem cell, progenitor or precursor cells from
embryonic or adult origin, which will induce the regeneration of tissues and organs. The following
step is to create biocompatible matrices or scaffolds for the conduction of the signal. These matrices or
scaffolds must be able to sustain cell proliferation and differentiation as well as the vascular ingrowth
and the unification the new tissue with the surrounding host tissue. Additionally, they must have the
capacity to adequately degrade concurrent with tissue regeneration. Then, the induction of growth
factors or signalling proteins will activate the proliferation and differentiation of the stem cells. Finally
the mechanical stimulation by biochemical forces like shear or strain. Scaffolds can be made in
different types of materials like bioceramics, membrane, fibres, foams hydrogels...
Another approach of regenerative medicine is the possibility to grow tissues and organs in the
laboratory directly from the patient s cells and implanting them in case the body cannot heal itself;
thus, avoiding problems of organs available for donation and transplant rejection. The term
regeneration is therefore used to describe the process of replacing the loss of specialized tissue by
proliferating undamaged specialized cells. The finality of this medicine is to imitate nature s capacity

The Life And Works Of Nathaniel Hawthorne
Nathaniel Hawthorne was an outstanding writer from the nineteenth century. He wrote themes that
could be understood by people in his time and today. His use of literary devices such as fantasy, irony,
symbolism, and illusion made his works very entertaining and powerful.
Nathaniel Hawthorne was born on July 4, 1804, in Salem, Massachusetts. Nathaniel Hawthorne s life
was surrounded by the Puritan legacy, he had an early ancestor named William Hathorne, and he was
one of the first people to emigrate to the United States. Nathaniel later added the w to his last name to

The Act Of Resistance Of The Unseen
I believe it is better to do what pleases the real you before doing what would please a hypothetical
other. Because of this, the act of resistance that I most identify with is in Alif the Unseen, with the
choice of Dina to reject what she is supposed to do, and instead dress as she pleases. Her decision to
wear the Niqab as an expression of her devotion to sainthood, despite the fact that it would make her
worth less to others is a powerful one. Unlike Intisar, who veiled herself elaborately as a mark of high
class, Dina chose to do so to resist her expected role as the bare faced, underpaid ornament to
someone s office or nursery, and create for herself a world that she finds beautiful (Wilson, 2012, p.
30). This relates to my life in how I reject the obligation to always dress in a way that is expected of
my gender, and instead present myself in a way that pleases me, even if to others it may make me less
valuable. Dina and I both place importance on being our most authentic selves, even if doing so is not
consistent with what our cultures would want of us.
When I came to college, I wore my hair in long, caramel ringlets, often with a faux rose clipped in the
front. Within a few months, I donned a brushed back undercut, frequently accompanied by my favorite
button down and bow tie. I worked out as I had before; although now my goal was to become
stronger, not thinner. Soon, as many college students do, I became the proud owner of a permanent

Because the firm was able to record steady growth for years, it was taken public in 1991, allowing it to

Capital Structure theories
Capital Structure Theories
Capital Structure
Capital Structure is the proportion of debt, preference and equity capitals in the total financing of the
firm s assets. The main objective of financial management is to maximize the value of the equity
shares of the firm. Given this objective, the firm has to choose that financing mix/capital structure that
results in maximizing the wealth of the equity shareholders. Such a capital structure is called as the
optimum capital structure. At the optimum capital structure, the weighted average cost of capital
would be the minimum. The capital structure decision influences the value of the firm through its cost
of capital and can affect the share of the earnings that pertain to the equity ... Show more content on

This approach also says that the overall cost of capital is independent of the degree of leverage.
Features of NOI approach:
1. At all degrees of leverage (debt), the overall capitalization rate would remain constant. For a given
level of Earnings before Interest and Taxes (EBIT), the value of a firm would be equal to EBIT/overall
capitalization rate.
2. The value of equity of a firm can be determined by subtracting the value of debt from the total value
of the firm. This can be denoted as follows:
Value of Equity = Total value of the firm Value of debt
3. Cost of equity increases with every increase in debt and the weighted average cost of capital
(WACC) remains constant. When the debt content in the capital structure increases, it increases the
risk of the firm as well as its shareholders. To compensate for the higher risk involved in investing in
highly levered company, equity holders naturally expect higher returns which in turn increases the cost
of equity capital.
Example:
Let us assume that a firm has an EBIT level of $50,000, cost of debt 10%, the total value of debt
$200,000 and the WACC is 12.5%. Let us find out the total value of the firm and the cost of equity
capital (the equity capitalization rate).

One example occurs in season two when Leslie Knope becomes a judge for the Miss Pawnee beauty
pageant and attempts to do the impossible: have a winner based upon merit rather than appearance.
After the contestants went through, the judges congregated off to the side to select a winner. All the
judges came to a consensus, except for Leslie. Leslie believed objectifying the contestants solely upon
physical beauty demeaned the contestants and that the judges should consider merit in deciding the

The focus is on the hotel industry because; the geographical location of a hotel has a major impact on
its operations and profitability (Namasivayam, K., Enz, C. A.,

also have a strong impact on the ICT adoption tendency of a hotel. This is because the ICT adoption
tendency of a hotel can be linked mainly to its expectations about the value addition that ICTs can

Using Images And Image Optimization
It s said that a picture is equal to 1,000 words. However, in most discussions of SEO best practices,
the topic of image optimization is a bit of an afterthought. Many of today s best practice guides for
image optimization remain very similar to what an aspiring SEO might have read a decade ago. In
recent years, the emergence of social media, the emphasis placed on page speed optimization, and the
use of structured data and rich snippets have changed the game a bit. Looking ahead to the future,
SEO practitioners and business owners may need to entirely re think how they approach using images
and image optimization. But before breaking down the past, present and future of SEO for images, it s
worth looking at why this subject is an important one, and perhaps far more critical for some
industries than they may realize. Why Image Optimization Matters Businesses like accounting
software companies or psychotherapists probably place a limited emphasis of image results in search
engines. Their offerings are not highly visual, and text is a good medium for conveying their
messages. Alternatively, businesses like a jewelers selling cufflinks, or a local businesses specializing
in custom signage must be very aware of their presence in the image results of Google, Yahoo, and
Bing. If they aren t, they re missing a lot of potential market share. With product offerings that are
largely in demand based upon their visual appeal, a strong organic presence in the image results can

opened the door with a Hello honey, how did it go ? Ronald said, I graduated and were now going to
Luke Field base in Arizona! Oh that s wonderful replied Marge. They started packing and left for the
flight the next day.Ronald and his wife had free flights since it was for military purposes. Once they
reached the base they were immediately introduced to the staff. His new general General Howley said

Reminiscences Of The Cuban Revolution Summary
The book, Reminiscences of the Cuban Revolution by Ernesto Che Guevara is a firsthand account of
the Cuban insurgency in the Sierra Maestra. Guevara s recollections about the revolution provide
important information about the challenges the rebels faced when they first landed in Cuba as well as
the diverse roles the peasantry played during the insurgency. Also, Che illustrates why the Cuban army
was unable to defeat the rebels and the advantages and limitations of waging guerrilla warfare in the
Sierra Maestra.
When the rebels landed in Cuba they faced many difficult challenges. The Granma Expedition from
Mexico took seven days and most of the men experienced severe seasickness as well as constant
hunger due to the lack of food onboard. The ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The rebels had superior knowledge about the geography of the Sierra Maestra, which allowed them to
stay off the army s radar until they were ready to attack. The insurgents also had significantly less
combatants and inferior weapons than the army so the Sierra Maestra, with its numerous hiding places
proved to be a perfect place to set up ambushes and made retreating easy. Another advantage of
fighting in the Sierra Maestra was the harsh weather. The enemy soldiers were more concerned with
the rain than with the possibility of an attack. The rain, cold and mosquitos demoralized the army
troops who were not used to living in such harsh conditions. Also, Batista could never send his full
army to crush the insurgency in the Sierra Maestra because doing so would leave the cities vulnerable
to other rebel groups looking to overthrow him. However, waging guerilla warfare in the Sierra
Maestra also had its limitations. The rebels had limited manpower and firearms while the army had
thousands of soldiers and top notch weaponry provided by the United States. Guerilla warfare in the
Sierra Maestra also limited the rebels ability to have influence in Havana where other rebel groups
such as the Revolutionary Directorate operated. Another limitation of guerilla warfare in the Sierra
Maestra was the inability to attack and occupy major cities such as Havana and Santa Clara, which
would have sped up the

Try as Samuel might there was no understanding his life...
Try as Samuel might there was no understanding his life with Valarie. He never really knew that
Valarie in her own way had opened up, it might not have been in the way he wanted her to love him,
but she loved him in her own way. Yet back then, in the beginning, in a time that is best left where it
belongs, she found herself becoming increasingly angry with him. His touch repulsed her, she wanted
to give him the love he wanted, but she just could not, did not have it in her to give.
You can t drink water from a well if the well is empty, she would often say to herself. Samuel was not
to know how Valarie s heart was knotted and her hands tied. He would try so hard to kiss away her
tears. The bitter drops stained his lips ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
That was the last thing he wanted, he just wanted to forget her completely, but Marlene was not to be
so easily forgotten. He felt her presence pulling him to her and even though he had tried hard to fight
it he could not stop the haunting.
It would be good if he could dismiss the thought, the idea, but since that night, that dreadful night,
strange things have been going on. He would see her disappearing out of his view or appearing out of
nowhere. He had to tell himself that it was just his mind playing tricks on him. He was happy to settle
with that for now. The woman that had once given him love that Valarie could not, the woman that
took part in the betrayal of Valarie s love was still refusing to go away. Thinking about his betrayal
now made him reflect on Marlene s betrayal.
How could two people so important in Valarie s life do such a thing to her? Marlene was prepared to
take him away from Valarie. She told him time and time again that she could love him in ways that
Valarie could not. She questioned his love for Valarie.
If you really love her, then why are you with me?
He had to confess to himself that he had grown to love Marlene in a way and yet there was something
about Valarie that made the love he had for her different, different to any other love.
He could not explain it, they were so alike and yet so different.
He bit his fist as the tears tried to flow, but he pushed them back.
He felt the sinking feelings of guilt,

Sputnik 2 Research Paper This provides reason to looking into the question of why the Germans didn t pursue their massive advantage in the realm of outer space discovery after World War II came to an end. The end of World War II caused turmoil to occur in Germany. Millions of German natives were forced to migrate and relocate from areas that would be considered as prewar Germany to areas that would be considered as postwar Germany. Many Germans were sent to labor camps. The shifting in boundaries, nationalities and population size changed quite a bit for the nation that suffered the loss of two major wars back to back. Following the war, the nation went through a phase of reconstruction and rebirth as they recovered from the mass destruction and barbaric Nazism that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... However, two months following the announcement, the USSR, determined to prove her supremacy in both ideology and technology, launched the Sputnik 1, the first artificial satellite known and made by mankind. Following Sputnik 1, the Soviets launched another satellite outer space, Sputnik 2. Sputnik 2 also carried a living being into outer space. This Soviet discovery frightened the United States even further, as this was a sure way to guarantee the accomplishment of taking a human into outer space was indeed possible. The living passenger aboard the new satellite was a dog, by the name of Laika. The space craft was equipped with various technology to ensure the safety of the dog. The life support system consisted of a machine to generate oxygen, and other devices that made sure to absorb the carbon dioxide in the air and also prevent Laika from experiencing oxygen poisoning. The temperature was to be maintained by a fan that would turn on when the cabin of the spacecraft exceeded about 59 degrees Fahrenheit. There was a supply of food, and a bag fitted to her to collect waste. An electrocardiogram monitored Laika s heart rate, along with another device to track her respiration rate, artery pressure, and her movements. This feat, however did not end with the victory intended. Laika died on the fourth day of the journey. The reason behind her death was debated for several years. Some scientists claim she died from oxygen poisoning, while others say her food was euthanized. However, few years later, a Soviet rocket scientist wrote a letter to Houston, claiming that the dog died from over heat, as it was impossible to create an aircraft that contained a steady temperature, or to create devices to regulate and maintain a steady temperature in the time constraint given. • 4. A Family Of Transcription Factors Introduction 1. The Grainyhead (Grh) gene family Grainyhead (Grh) genes are conserved in metazoans. They encode a family of transcription factors with a unique, unusually large, DNA binding and dimerization domain, and an isoleucine rich activation domain(Attardi and Tjian, 1993; Gustavsson et al., 2008; Moussian and Uv, 2005; Ting et al., 2003b; Uv et al., 1994; Venkatesan et al., 2003; Wilanowski et al., 2002). Grh factors were first identified in Drosophila (Bray et al., 1989; Bray and Kafatos, 1991; Dynlacht et al., 1989; Johnson et al., 1989) and since then, they were also found in animals as diverse as nematodes and humans. Grh proteins have not yet been detected in unicellular organisms. Phylogenetic analysis subdivides this gene family into two main classes, the Grh like sub family and the CP2 sub family, depending whether the family members are more related to the Drosophila grh, or to another Drosophila gene, CP2 (Ting et al., 2003b; Venkatesan et al., 2003; Wilanowski et al., 2002). The fly and worm genomes each contain a single grh gene. Mammals, both mice and humans, have evolved three Grh homologues: Grh like 1 (Grhl 1, or Mammalian Grainyhead (MGR)/TFCP2L2), Grhl 2 (Brother of MGR (BOM)/TFCP2L3) and Grhl 3 (Sister of MGR (SOM)/ TFCP2L4). • 6. Zinc Ores During The World After Iron, Aluminum, And Copper Introduction Zinc is currently the fourth most widely consumed metal in the world after iron, aluminum, and copper. In nature, zinc ores could be divided into sulphide minerals and oxide minerals. Zinc is extracted mostly from zinc sulfide ores. With depletion of global resources of zinc sulfides as well as the restriction on sulfur emissions during their processing, there is an increasing focus on the processing of the huge reserves of zinc oxide ores (Li et al., 2010). Thomas and Fray (1981) studied leaching of oxide zinc materials with chlorine and chlorine hydrate. They found that the rate of leaching of the Adrar Turkish ore could be described using a shrinking core diffusion model, and that the rate of leaching was controlled by surface reaction. In all cases studied, lead was also leached with zinc. However, iron oxides remained virtually undissolved. Frenay (1985) investigated leaching of oxidized zinc ores in various solution media and obtained the best leaching results with sulfuric acid and caustic soda. Mineralogical studies showed that smithsonite can be completely leached but hemimorphite is relatively refractory to leaching. Abdel Aal (2000) studied the kinetics of sulfuric acid leaching of low grade zinc silicate ore and reported that about 94% of zinc can be leached after 180 min of reaction with 10% sulfuric acid at 70°C. If you do not agree with feminism, it could possibly be because everything you know about it is wrong. According to a poll conducted by PerryUndem in 2015, a research and communications firm, 85 percent of Americans believe in equality for women. Yet, only 18 percent of respondents identified as a feminist. Evidently, it is a belief that is wildly misunderstood and learning more about it could change one s perception of the world completely. The basic assumption shared by all feminists is that women suffer certain injustices on account of their sex. Feminists stress the importance of gender divisions in society and it simply portrays these divisions as working to the overall advantage of men. Although feminists are united with their common desire for sexual justice and their concern for women s welfare, there is a range spectrum of feminist views that many are uneducated on. Many do not know that anyone can be a feminist regardless of age, religion, or gender. A common misconception about feminism is that it is strictly for a certain type of person. How Did Geography Affect Where Colonists Settled Essay Beginning in 1607, when ambitious English colonists settled in Jamestown, and continuing until the last of the thirteen colonies was established; geography was a substantial factor in the development of colonial America. The crops that essentially saved the colonists lives, such as tobacco, rice, and indigo, wouldn t have grown without a certain type and amount of soil to grow properly. Also, the Appalachian Mountains and the dense forests provided a barrier for the colonists, preventing them from going too far west right away, and causing the colonies to form in the arrangement they did. Both of these factors could be overlooked easily enough, but did have a reasonable impact of the development of colonial America. Finally, the geography of the middle colonies, such as New York, New Jersey, Delaware, and Pennsylvania played a big role on the development and population of this area. In the sixteen and seventeen hundreds, the above colonies were the most populated of the thirteen establishments. There was plentiful and fertile soil, in which tobacco was heavily grown. By using various writing approaches to convey the theme of the novel, Hesse appeals to the readers senses and aides them in grasping the novel. Another case in point is Kate Chopin s book on a woman s self discovery appropriately titled The Awakening. Just like these authors, Hesse proves to be no stranger to this choice of symbolism. When making a computer program there are two essential steps that are required to make a successful program, these two main steps are the Analysis this is where you will have to analyse the requirements of the software, the second step is the Coding. This means that a simple patch to the code will not fix these problems. The changes are likely to be extremely disruptive that the system requirements that the program was built on will be violated. This will mean the requirements will have to be modified and a major redesign will have to happen. The preliminary program design phase is inserted in between the software requirements phase and the analysis phase. By using this technique the designer will assure that the software will not fail because of timing, storage and data flux reasons. There are 3 steps that you will have to do to implement this procedure. 1, Begin the design process with program designers. 2, Design define and allocate the data processing modes. 3, Write an overview document this means that everyone must at least have a slight understanding of the system and there should be one person with deep understanding of the system. The seventh figure shows that if the program is being developed for the first time, arrange matters so that when the final build of the program is delivered to the customer it is actually the second version as the first one is a simulation of it. Royce view on documentation is that the more documentation the better. He says that when he is called upon to review a documentation the first step that he does is investigate the state of the documentation, if the documentation is in serious default he recommends that the project management is replaced. Because of this, the act of resistance that I most identify with is in Alif the Unseen, with the choice of Dina to reject what she is supposed to do, and instead dress as she pleases. Her decision to wear the Niqab as an expression of her devotion to sainthood, despite the fact that it would make her worth less to others is a powerful one. Unlike Intisar, who veiled herself elaborately as a mark of high class, Dina chose to do so to resist her expected role as the bare faced, underpaid ornament to someone s office or nursery, and create for herself a world that she finds beautiful (Wilson, 2012, p. 30). This relates to my life in how I reject the obligation to always dress in a way that is expected of my gender, and instead present myself in a way that pleases me, even if to others it may make me less valuable. Dina and I both place importance on being our most authentic selves, even if doing so is not consistent with what our cultures would want of us. When I came to college, I wore my hair in long, caramel ringlets, often with a faux rose clipped in the front. Within a few months, I donned a brushed back undercut, frequently accompanied by my favorite button down and bow tie. Capital Structure theories Capital Structure Theories Capital Structure Capital Structure is the proportion of debt, preference and equity capitals in the total financing of the firm s assets. The main objective of financial management is to maximize the value of the equity shares of the firm. Given this objective, the firm has to choose that financing mix/capital structure that results in maximizing the wealth of the equity shareholders. Such a capital structure is called as the optimum capital structure. At the optimum capital structure, the weighted average cost of capital would be the minimum. The capital structure decision influences the value of the firm through its cost of capital and can affect the share of the earnings that pertain to the equity ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This approach also says that the overall cost of capital is independent of the degree of leverage. Features of NOI approach: 1. At all degrees of leverage (debt), the overall capitalization rate would remain constant. For a given level of Earnings before Interest and Taxes (EBIT), the value of a firm would be equal to EBIT/overall capitalization rate. 2. The value of equity of a firm can be determined by subtracting the value of debt from the total value of the firm. This can be denoted as follows: Value of Equity = Total value of the firm Value of debt 3. Cost of equity increases with every increase in debt and the weighted average cost of capital (WACC) remains constant. When the debt content in the capital structure increases, it increases the risk of the firm as well as its shareholders. To compensate for the higher risk involved in investing in highly levered company, equity holders naturally expect higher returns which in turn increases the cost of equity capital. Example: Let us assume that a firm has an EBIT level of $50,000, cost of debt 10%, the total value of debt $200,000 and the WACC is 12.5%. Let us find out the total value of the firm and the cost of equity capital (the equity capitalization rate). Solution: EBIT ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
