Birth Control On Culture And Society
Birth control is a huge issue in our social world. Through the many perspectives birth control can
connect individuals with society. There is a whole culture set around birth control, the media affects an
individual s thoughts, and conflict theory can also affect people s views on contraception.
Culture and society have many factors from a social perspective. They consist of objectives, beliefs,
behaviors, and any other common traits between a group of people. Of course, culture is not fixed.
People are free to choose and change their minds as time passes by. American culture from today is
vastly different from 100 years ago. Some of the changes are due to the advancement of technology
and new inventions. Birth control is one invention to have an effect on culture. Many people condemn
the usage of any form of birth control. Birth control includes hormonal methods, barrier methods, and
natural methods. A symbol of maturity can be seen in these methods of contraception. For example,
for a teenager boy to receive a condom (barrier method) from his father before going on a date
symbolizes the boy ending his childhood and entering adulthood. Also, the condom to the boy
symbolizes the trust the father has given to his son. The father believes that his son will be responsible
and fully trusts in him to make the right decision. Another way contraception can be a symbol is when
a girl decides to use birth control pills. The usage of these pills symbolizes her

Effects Of Gambling On The United States
Gambling in the United States has been fought over for years. The outcomes of gambling have been
good, however they have also been bad as well. Between land ownership over where gambling can
occur and the outlaw of gambling itself, it has not been an easy topic of discussion. Within these
disputes, most of them include conflicts amongst Native Americans and our federal government. In an
article from the California Research Bureau stated by Roger Danstan, Indian tribes have used their
position as sovereign entities to develop a number of gaming establishments. However, The growth of
Indian gaming led to many court battles, including some important ones in California, ( Introduction
of Gambling ). Native American territories play huge ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Among the restrictions of gambling, it can be clearly pointed out that there are some exceptions to
allowing it happen. Through the Commerce Clause, Congress has carefully looked upon gambling.
This allows gambling, however it could only be on land that belongs to the Native Americans. Aside
from the current conflicts with gambling, there are revenues generated from it that contribute to our
government. In the same article written by Roger Danstan, he goes on to clarify that, Illegal gaming is
popular, though its popularity and prevalence are difficult to measure. An estimated $32 billion was
wagered illegally in 1986, resulting in gross revenues of approximately $5.6 billion, ( Introduction of
Gambling ). Illegal gambling tends to be the most popular of gambling because it mostly generates the
highest revenues. It seems to offer a completely different way for the government and our nation to
receive some sort of a steady income. There are many other forms of gambling in the United States
other than just typical card games, the sub categories of gambling that aren t quite as popular as forms
such as lotteries and casino gaming, include pari mutuel wagering and charitable gambling. Defined
by Roger Danstan, Pari mutuel wagering refers to the type of gambling where the total prize pool is

Nikola Tesla Research Paper
Nikola Tesla was an inventor and engineer who made many things we us now. Tesla was born on July
10, 1856 in Smiljan, Croatia. And died in New York at the age of 86 on January 7, 1943. He was a tall

Importance to Be on Time in the Military Essay example
It is important to be on time, both in the Army and in the civilian sector, for multiple reasons. Among
these reasons, the ones that stand out to me the most are unprofessionalism, being fired, receiving
adverse disciplinary actions, and failing your co workers/comrades. Being late or tardy to work can
cause not only yourself but everyone at your place of employment problems. When being late or tardy,
you are showing that you are not a professional. It can also be assumed that you do not care or respect
your job the way you should or need to. When your employer begins to think that you are careless

I also know that I showed a lack of leadership, selfless service, and responsibility, which are three of
my army values. I know that my inability to leadership could later affect a promotion and it affects the
trust that my leadership has towards me. I know in order to be a successful soldier I must show
leadership qualities at all times. I know by me not showing up for work made it look like I don t have
selfless service. I know that I must put my nations, my units, and my battle buddies needs before my
own in order to accomplish the mission successfully and smoothly. I know that when I failed to show
up for duty that I not only showed lack of responsibility but also a lot discipline. I could write this
essay and fill it with tons of excuses as to why I was late to my point of duty, but the fact of the matter
is that I was late and there is no excuse, being on time and at the right place of duty is extremely
important. When I am late it makes everyone else run behind because they were too busy trying to
figure out where I was and what I was doing to cause me not to be at my place of duty. Not to mention
that when everything is running behind and then we all have to end up staying way later than we
would have had to stay in the first place. It makes the whole day extremely hectic, because everyone is

Faretta V. California Case Study
The United States Constitution sets forth that the Sixth Amendment assures that in all criminal
tribunals, the defendant shall enjoy the right to have the assistance of counsel for his defense. In
addition to the right to counsel, the Sixth Amendment guarantees the right to waive assistance of
counsel and the right to conduct one s own defense. The Faretta v. California case set aside a
conviction because Faretta was convicted after the trial court proceedings which forced him to accept
a public defender. Now that an overview of the Sixth Amendments Right to Counsel has been briefed,
the next section will focus on problems with the sixth amendment of right to counsel as it pertains to
defendants with disabilities or indignities.

The problem with the Sixth Amendment under the Supreme Court s jurisprudence regarding waiver of
counsel needs to be refurbished. The initial stance that was introduced in Godinez v. Moran was too
low for a defendant to conduct his/her defense. Issues were raised because defendants are supposed to
adopt the right of self representation knowing and intelligently that he/she can in fact represent
himself effectively in a court of law. With that being said, before a defendant accept a waiver of the
right to counsel, the judge must first and foremost ensure that the defendant is mentally competent to
make such a decision to represent himself and that such decision has been knowingly, intelligently,
and voluntarily (Slogan, 2008). The Constitution does not allow trial to be conducted of defendants
who lack mental competence process (Indiana v. Edwards). The next topic that will be highlighted on
is how the United States Supreme Court took steps to correct such a

Essay Passion of the Christ
The Passion of the Christ is one of many films about the life of Jesus but this particular one is
different to the others. Released in 2004, directed by Mel Gibson and filmed in the ancient Aramaic
language, `The Passion focuses mainly on the death of Christ and shows us the full extent as to what
he suffered to save mankind.
Before seeing The Passion of the Christ I hadn t heard much about it except that it was very violent
and politically incorrect. In fact I hadn t seen or heard a review that said if it was good or bad or if it
was well acted or if it was worth the watch. Everyone just seemed to be interested in saying that it is
too violent, the movie should not have been made and Mel Gibson shouldn t be making money from a

There is definitely something in this film for everyone. Even if you can t bear to watch the violence,
which is so predominant throughout the movie, there is a lot of emotion, action and even horror that
will keep any audience gripped. In this film Gibson uses the devil in the form of a person and he
shows us how man is tempted by evil which results in jumps and frights better than most horror films
out these days.
As far as the violence is concerned, The Passion was very gruesome and disturbing to watch at some
points. Some people think it is too much to see someone getting their skin ripped off with metal claws
but I think it was a necessary part of the ordeal to which Christ was subjected and it brings home the
enormity of what happened. Other films made his crucifixion out to be a graceful and peaceful death
almost leaving out the fact that he was nearly flogged to death before even touching his cross.
This is not the type of film where you can complain about the story line or say you didn t like the
ending, but you do come with an expectation of how you would like them to portray the story. For me
I was more than satisfied with how they did it but some more religious people might not like the way
little things were changed from the Bible. In The Passion when Judas Iscariot hung himself he didn t
say he was sorry to god but we could see that he regretted doing what he did and we knew he was
sorry. Gibson also

Man s Search For Meaning Essay
I am going to guess that the reader of this essay is not a holocaust survivor. I can almost guarantee it.
Although you re not a survivor of one of the most horrific events in history, it does not mean you will
have no feelings about it if you were to hear some stories. I call them stories because most books
written of such detail are mere personal experiences and not factual, historical information. Speaking
of personal experiences, I took the time to read a book about a man named Viktor Emil Frankl (26
March 1905 2 September 1997).¹ He was an Austrian neurologist and psychiatrist as well as a
Holocaust survivor. The book is called Man s Search for Meaning , and I find it to be a truthful

his family, and could detain him, they could not choose how he was. He had control over the way he
would act, respond, and carry on. Regardless of what they did, he would choose his conduct and be in
charge of it. My aim is neither to abridge the book for you, nor to clarify the ideas of existential
treatment, so I will move here to my evaluation and reaction to Frankl s book. To start with, I need to
repeat that this book is a superb read. For anybody new to the outrages of a death camp, the tale of
human triumph even with such barbarities alone is justified regardless of the read. It also gives a rule
to engage people to take liability for their life, and to make importance in it. It gives a model of living
over the impact of condition. The initial stage is portrayed by the indication of shock. Frankl speaks of
his entry via train at the notorious Auschwitz, when he and his kindred detainees underlying stun and
frightfulness rapidly offered a path to the condition known as the delusion of reprieve , the conviction
that they would be spared at last, that things couldn t be as horrendous as they appeared. Frankl
portrays how, not for the last time, he sat tight for destiny to follow through to its logical end as the
detainees proceeded remaining before a SS officer who coolly guided them toward the right, which

Wages of Crime by R. T Naylor
Introduction:
Wages of Crime: Black Markets, Illegal Finance, and the Underworld Economy is a book by R. T.
Naylor based on his views of organized crime and the government s stance and involvement. Naylor
writes from a mostly democratic point of view and presents his thesis quite clearly. Naylor s thesis in
this book is that organized crime is a convenient myth handed to society by the government. In this
book Naylor sets up four important concepts: first on the black market operations of guerrilla groups,
second on the modern arms market, then on money laundering, and finally the underworld trade in
gold. Throughout the book he talks about the critique of the public perceptions of organized crime, a
discussion of anti money laundering policies, and an analysis of terrorist financing.
Summery
At the start of his second chapter Naylor sets up the difference between the motives of insurgent
groups versus criminal groups. Naylor claims Criminals commit economic crimes to make money.
(pg. 45) and that is where motivation ends for them. The difference between insurgent groups is,
money is merely a tool one that is necessary but not sufficient to achieve. Like the formally
constituted governments they challenge, insurgent groups have political programs...they have control
over armed forces, and they directly compete with the state for territory, population, and resources.
(pg. 45) A parallel economy is then created by the guerrilla groups to supply the population with what

Molecular Simulations on the Mechanical Response and Failure Behavior of a Defective Graphene:
Cases of Stone Thrower Wales (5 7 7 5) defects
G. Rajasekaran Rajesh Kumar and Avinash Parashar Department of Mechanical and Industrial
Engineering Indian Institute of Technology, Roorkee 247667, India
ABSTRACT
Structural defects which are inevitable during the production, chemical and heat treatment processes
can affect the mechanical properties of graphene and also defects can be deliberately introduced in
graphene by ion beam irradiation to get required properties for specific applications. So,
understanding the effect of defects on mechanical properties and failure behaviours of a graphene
sheet is important for its applications. In this work, the effects of linear and angular orientation of
different types of Stone Thrower Wales (STW 1 and STW 2) defects on the mechanical properties and
failure behaviour of graphene membrane have been investigated in the frame of molecular dynamics.
This work discussing about tuneable mechanical properties by amending the linear orientation of STW
1 and STW 2 defects at different angles in zigzag direction and armchair direction respectively. The
results obtained from the present work may provide the insights in tailoring the mechanical properties
by preparing defects in graphene, and give a full picture for the applications of graphene with defects
in flexible electronics and nanodevices.

Summer Vacations
A success of a student relies on a the time spent in school. Anaheim high school students need to have
longer hours in school to study for and get all the help they need and to make that happen there needs
to be less summer vacation my argument is that KIPP students are smart and well educated because
they have long hours of school and study for approximately 2 hours and read and listen to music for
about the same time. Relation of Education Insanity (8). The scores show how students who had
longer summer schools had a had low test scores and for those students who had less summer
vacations and they had better test scores which is pretty impressive. Studying a lot and putting a lot of
time in something would make it easier for your brain to function faster because you re constantly

yourself you start to believe in yourself and become a successful person.
Rewarding students is great to show them they are important and they need to treat themselves from
putting in great work, but does it really help encourage and motivates the students?
I believe yes it does motivate the students because they look at it as a goal. And it may push them to
try harder and be successful. The longer hours at school is to become hard working and understand
what you are doing and the studying for long hours is to help you become successful What that extra

Similarities Between Hunting And Hunting
Hunting and fishing have been around since the beginning of the world. Soon humans would come
along and carry on the practice of surviving and thriving this ancient way. Both hunting and fishing
are skills that are still used today, but are not used so much as to survive but as a sport. What are the
similarities and differences between hunting? Well for those of the readers that have not participated in
either events or do engage but have never wondered about this question, hopefully this essay will
answer all of your questions about the similarity and differences between hunting and fishing. To be
prosperous in both hunting and fishing one must be able to determine the location of the animal you
are stalking. While hunting may be easier to track the animal, fish can only move so much because
they are stuck in a body of water. Both deer and bass prefer to stick in cover of bushes and fallen trees.
Both bass and deer ¨bed during the day; however bass like deer will occasionally move in daylight.
Deer can arguably be easier to find because of new technologies like scopes and rifles that can shoot at
long ranges, but while bass fishing you are most of the time on a craft which is sitting on top of the
water giving you an advantage of being able to see through the it to see the fish swimming. There is
also new technology that uses sonar to map the bottom of the body of water and it can track fish
movement. Both hunting and fishing require one to be able to read and

Coraline
In most fairy tales, there is a quest structure that the protagonist follows through. The typical quest
structure is as followed: an ideal happiness, disruption of the ideal happiness, tasks to reinstate
happiness, and finally the reinstating of happiness. The cycle is never broken. In Neil Gaiman s
Coraline, this quest structure is abandoned. Unlike the typical quest structure, the protagonist,
Coraline, undergoes a coming of age quest in which the quest structure deviates from the typical
structure. Coraline s quest signifies her coming of age when she overcomes what Freud calls her
infantile complexes, which then allows her to break the typical quest structure by abandoning her
childhood and embracing her adulthood. The typical ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The parents are more concerned about work and the house rather than spending time with Coraline. In
response to Coraline s pestering about what she is allowed to do, her mother replies, I don t really
mind what you do...as long as you don t make a mess (6) while her father asks Coraline to leave me
alone to work (7). Throughout the beginning of the story, Coraline is constantly pushed away and
made second to work leaving Coraline alone. This hardly makes for the ideal happiness that the
typical quest structure begins with. Coraline starts off with a less than perfect setting that the
protagonist loathes. Coraline starts off wishing for something else other than her current family, which
contradicts the typical quest where the goal is to return to the ideal happiness the protagonist
possessed in the beginning.
The fact that Coraline starts off with a less than ideal happiness then leads to another deviation from
the typical quest. In the typical quest, there is a disruption to the happiness that leads to distress and
sets the quest arc in motion. In Coraline, the equivalent of the disruption that sets forth the quest arc is
presented as something desired by Coraline. The first couple of interactions with the other world are
something that Coraline had desired in the real world. An example of this is the parents and the world
itself. The other mother and father is the complete of the real mother and

Identifying A Cluster Of Media Communication
Examining a cluster of media communication in order to review common and unique approaches that
the marketing industry utilizes was not something that crossed my mind to ever do. The task was not
as easy as I expected when explained in class; but, it was interesting and seeing as though I have
learned over the years through my other classes that the average American spends somewhere near 8
hours of their day watching television, the marketing industry has a big advantage using commercials
to attract their viewers and manipulate them into purchasing and using or consuming the product they
are delivering to them through the television screen. For this assignment, I tuned into TBS where an

resources they will need for future endeavors. I was unable to document a significant difference in the
types of commercials shown during these programs in order to have much of a comparison, but there
was enough alike about them to dissect them and really figure out the methods which broadcasting
companies use in order to attract their buyers and consumers. For every television channel I have ever
watched throughout my life the commercials have always been significantly louder than the actual
show I am viewing; not just for these two channels, but I did notice it more when actually having to
pay attention. Why does this annoying thing constantly happen every channel I choose to watch? The
answer to this question: marketing purposes. It is in the companies best interest on becoming
successful with the product they are attempting to sell by turning the volume up on their commercials
louder than the actual television show because it attracts the viewers and manipulates them in to
paying attention to them. People are not watching television shows to see the commercials; maybe

Examples Of Trask Family In East Of Eden
In the novel East of Eden, families are a big part of the novel and a major theme. The aspects of the
father son relation, especially the conflict caused by a father s preference for one child over another, is
one of the main plots in the story. The Trask family parallels the biblical characters Cain and Abel in
many ways. This is an important detail in understanding the meanings behind the novel, as well as the
connections the author makes to his own family through the Hamilton family.
In the first generation of the Trask family, Cyrus expresses preference for Adam over Charles. And
Charles feels this disapproval and resents it deeply. Charles s resentment comes to a head when Cyrus

The Hamiltons are a large and have two loving parents. In contrast, the Trasks are small and divided.
These family traits can be explained by looking at the influence of their fathers. Samuel is a good

and passes along these characteristics to them. Cyrus, however, is not a good father. His fooling
around in the army causes his first wife to kill herself. He then marries Alice because he feels that he
can easily control her and and she can do housework. He favors Adam over Charles, causing a rift
between the two boys. Cyrus is also a liar, basing his life around a time in the army that never actually
happened. It is Cyrus sins and lies that divide the Trask family. Steinbeck illustrates the importance of
the father in determining the dynamic of a family. One father passes along his love, while another

High Quality Healthcare At Today s National Health Service
High quality healthcare in today s National Health Service (NHS) is defined by NHS England (2013)
as having three essential components. Firstly clinically effective care that is seen by patients not just
clinicians; secondly that care is safe; and third, care that delivers a positive experience for the patient.
As quality care is the focus for NHS England, it advocates NHS employees all working towards this
goal. Having a common purpose promotes a sense of direction (Storey and Holti, 2013), and Ham, C.
(2014), report that the systems used within the NHS, along with leadership and culture within the
organisation, need to be transformed and aligned so that quality of care is the organising principle.
Add to this the financial challenges faced (Bevan 2010) and the health professionals today have a
difficult time ahead in trying to harmonise all factors in their pursuit of quality care for their patients.
Bevan also adds the challenge that when trying to energise the whole healthcare workforce, what skills
will be needed? ; And additionally cites that to deliver excellence in healthcare in the context of cost
and quality, there has to be a sustainable and systematic approach to improvement methods. Of the
three factors equating to quality, enriching the patient experience may be seen as the newcomer
compared to clinical effectiveness and safety (Churchill and Warden, 2014), having been highlighted
by Lord Darzi in 2008 (DoH, 2008). In addition reports and reviews from Keogh

How Does Arthur Conan Doyle Use The Observant Character Of...
The basis of detective fictions is a well developed and observant character that is able to walk the
audience and outside perspectives through the case. In this case, Arthur Conan Doyle utilizes the
observant perspective of Watson to describe the actions of Sherlock Holmes. Doyle characterizes
Sherlock through underscoring vocabulary and the first person understanding of Watson. A series of
analytical language and descriptive literary devices such as juxtaposition to portray the effects of Irene
Adler on the near perfect character of Sherlock Holmes. Doyle begins the passage by emphasizing
THE woman to Sherlock Holmes in order to introduce an impacting character within the selective and
closed off life of Sherlock. The emphasis on THE resembles her as an overbearing character that has
establish a lasting impact on Sherlock as even he does not mention her under any other name. The lack
of emphasis on her name, but rather her mark on Sherlock, is utilized to present an ambivalent feeling
within Sherlock in which he can t identify her as a flaw or test of himself. Doyle proceeds by
clarifying the idea of her overbearing image by characterizing her as the dominant image for the
whole of his sex in order to reemphasize her presence in Sherlock s highly selective and egoistic
memory. Furthermore, Doyle utilizes the close relationship of Watson to clarify that it was not any
emotion akin to love in order to introduce the idea of reason rather than emotion, specifically love. In
addition, this is the first time THE woman [ s] name is mentioned to slowly introduce the character
and ease into the rest of the story and flashback of their encounter. Further on, Doyle continues the

structures are still too tall (Rodrigues, 2007, p.711). This is important as employee motivation is
positively correlated with customer satisfaction happy employees make happy customers (Rodrigues,
2007, p. 698). Success is not attainable in the absence of happy employees. Employees are the most
important asset held by an organization. Employees are crucial to an origination s strategy as they are

The components of the two theories are very different yet they seek to accomplish the same goal to
motivate employees (Bobic, 2003, p.245). Based on this, both theories have their place in the strategic
architecture of an organization. The following text will analyze the components of theories X and Y to
verify the added value of each. Theory X is based on the following assumptions.
It is a manager s job to drive and support motivation through the organization of resources, by
directing and controlling employee behavior (McGregor, 2000, p.2).
Humans by nature lack the ability to motivate themselves in the absence of the manager s pressure and
leadership (McGregor, 2000, p.2).
Without the intervention of management employee will only do the bare minimum required of them
(McGregor, 2000, p. 2).
Employees are lacking of ambition , disliking of responsibility and prefer to be led (McGregor, 2000,
p.2).
Employees will not willingly engage in activities which result in the achievement of organizational
needs in the absence of management s guidance as they are inherently self centered (McGregor, 2000,
p.2).
Employees are by nature resistant to change (McGregor, 2000, p.2).
Motivating factors are based on meeting the individual employees safety and physiological needs
(Bobic, 2003, p.244).
Managers need to set clear rules and expectations for employees in order to drive success

How McCabe and Mrs Miller and Blade Runner Subvert Their Genres and Defy Audience
Expectations
Two genres which have always been Hollywood staples are science fiction and the western. The
genres can be seen in films made as early as Le Voyage Dans la lune (Georges Melies 1902) and The
Great Train Robbery (Edwin S. Porter 1903). On the surface the two genres are very different,
however if one looks closely at them they are similar in many ways. Both genres usually feature
uncharted frontiers, strong silent protagonists, frightening savages (played by either space aliens or
Native Americans) and damsels in distress. The formula for these two genres was established many
decades ago and in recent years it takes a film that defies and ... Show more content on

One important change from traditional western is the cold, the film is set in winter in a cold climate
and Beatty goes around bundled up like a bear in a thick fur coat. The viewer can almost feel the wind
whipping through the poorly built houses and the residents shivering. Altman features the snow and
the weather prominently in his film, this is in stark contrast to a traditional western which takes place
in a warm state and in which the climate is rarely an issue. Another difference is the way in which
Altman peoples his film with realistic characters whose flaws he makes clear to the audience. This is
not an idealized west peopled by beautiful looking movie stars, even Beatty, sporting a thick beard,
and Christie are willing to look less attractive than usual for their parts. The people who live in Altman
s West have had difficult lives. They have poor hygiene and poor social skills. These realistic
characters include the workers McCabe uses to build his whorehouse as well as the whores he first
brings to town, while Altman treats these people sympathetically and their appearance and actions are
realistic it is clear that they are not prime examples of human beauty, intelligence and cleanliness. This
use of realistic characters is not always the case in idealized westerns such as High Noon (Fred
Zinneman 1952) starring the movie star lawman Gary Cooper (Will

Arlington County Giftedness
Arlington County does an excellent job adhering to most of Moon s 9 points:
1. The definition for Arlington County goes with what the state and federal government adheres to and
bases its assessments on the most current possible manner. They recognize the diversity by putting the
information in all different languages. In addition,
The Office of Gifted Services reflects this philosophy and complies with Virginia Regulations
Governing Educational Services for Gifted Students based on the following concepts:
a. Giftedness is developmental; it is potential which must be nourished.
b. Gifted students share some characteristics with all other children.
c. There is variability among the gifted.

Social Effects Of Socialization
Everyone in the world sees and has different opinions on an issue. Due to this people choose a party to
express their beliefs and what should be done even if it doesn t cover all their believes. But even
people can change their party and believes overtime due to socialization. Which is affected by
virtually anyone like family, friends, political actors, and even policies the government establishes.
As everyone is growing up they all experience different types of socialization and I am not an
exception. I grew up with many types of Socialization and some had a bigger effect than others. But
overall my socialization has been affected by my family, friends, church, and media. Even though at
first i didn t know they had an affect on they way I think. I later began to realize that they do. Like that
of my earliest political memory when in my old house I was watching tv and on the it, it was talking
about the 2008 election and I remember seeing polls and the support every candidate had and one of
them I remember seeing was Obama. My grandpa was also there with me and was saying that the
Obama was winning in the poles. Even though I didn t really know what was going on I thought it was
pretty cool and went for Obama because everyone I knew liked him. Here you can see that family had
an effect on me because they agreed with obama and because of this I also agreed with him even
though i really didn t know much about him and politics. Even now they are affecting me especially

The Influence Of Globalization On Contemporary...
Globalization is a social process independent of man s will. It is also a dynamic development process
with inner contradictions and a dual nature. Although it provides a rare historic opportunity for many
countries to develop, it also creates differences, competition and conflicts of interest. Globalization s
contradictions and dual nature also exert a complicated influence on contemporary international
relations.
While globalization deepens mutual dependence and further promotes this era s trend toward peace
and development, its nature of imbalance has led to the rise of power politics in the same period,
complicating the process of multipolarization.

However, since the current globalization process took shape at a time when the old international order
had not yet undergone fundamental change, the Western developed countries remain dominant. They
are the biggest beneficiaries while the developing countries are in an adverse situation. Thus the
imbalance of forces in the international structure has been aggravated. In 1999, the developed
countries, whose populations account for only 20 percent of the world total, possess 80 percent of the
global GDP and 81.2 percent of the total volume of world trade. The political and economic strength
of a vast number of developing countries has weakened relatively rather than strengthened within a
certain period. Hegemonism and power politics will intensify for a considerable period of time and
new interventionism will likely run wild. The imbalance in the globalization process means that the
multipolarization of international politics will follow a long and tortuous road.
In the process of globalization, a vast number of developing countries are faced with more and more
challenges on the issue of national sovereignty. Effectively safeguarding national economic security
has become a new task for these countries.
In the process of globalization, different countries have different circumstances and standing. The
developing countries, including China, are faced with unprecedented challenges and

Copyright And Copyright Infringement Trials
Intellectual properties are anything that is created by the mind. This includes inventions, designs,
books, etc. Many people protect their intellectual by copyrighting their work. Copyrights are
trademarks or patents, and give the owners of the work the right to claim their work and protect it
from theft. Use or reference of famous work is permitted when it is for transformative or limited use.
This work be considered fair use and many copyright infringement trials have been dismissed because
of this. Copyrights are an important tool to ensure that copyrighted work that is referenced mentions
the original inventor, rather than stealing their invention and claiming it as their own.

Trademark is a sign, design, or expression used in order to set a business apart. Trademarks serves as
two primary functions. The first is to provide protection to manufactures and traders by not allowing

Recombinant Dna Techniques Essay
In this experiment, individuals were able to use recombinant DNA techniques such as cloning to alter
the DNA of a certain strain of yeast called Saccharomyces Cerevisiae. By the use of cloning, scientists
are able to analyze and compare the genetic material of a specific organism to another. In this lab, the
recombinant DNA techniques are used to transform AmpS E. Coli to AmpR E. Coli. This was done by
using an insert, a vector, and a host. The insert was S. Cerevisiae genomic DNA, E. Coli plasmid was
the vector, and E. Coli was the host. The technique of gel electrophoresis was also used to determine
whether the DNA was cut or not with restriction enzymes. Uncut sequences of the DNA were sent to
an outside laboratory for sequencing. Then when the sequencing was complete, computer programs,
such as BLAST, were used to determine whether or not the genomic insert originates from a gene and
if the yeast codes for a protein that could be found within the human genome. Introduction
Saccharomyces Cerevisiae, more commonly known as baker s yeast or brewer s yeast, is very
favorable to use in biotechnology because of the wide range of environmental conditions it could live
in. S. Cerevisiae is capable to live from freezing temperatures to about 55◦C, proliferate from 12◦C to

Rolling Stone felt that he would be a good person to ask about how to make a classic song. Jay Z
references different songs and ideals on what he thinks makes a classic song, but is he really the right

Today, songs have to be able to appeal to the demographic that primarily listens to those radio stations
that play the top songs in the country or the world. That is the main way for an artist to gain popularity
and get the rest of their music out there. The problem with that philosophy is that artists more often
than not have to give up some kind of creative control to achieve their goals. Which means they must
follow certain trends in the music industry at any given time in order to gain or sustain their
popularity. Just because songs get a lot of air play on the radio, does not mean that they are always the
best song when it comes to quality and meaning in the lyrics. Jay Z attested to this in his essay in
Rolling Stone. A song like Can I Live is so full of emotion to me it was better than Hard Knock Life or
Empire State of Mind, but it lacked that accessibility. (Carter). That is saying a lot considering Empire
State of Mind alone has gone platinum five times since its release in 2009. People overall want to hear
songs that make them feel good or that bring up good memories and are easy to remember. That is
why most songs on the radio are up beat with catchy hooks. The music becomes like an infection and
the more a person hears a certain song, the more likely they are to buy it. The problem is that people

Historically, crime and criminals have always caught the attention of law abiding citizens. Whenever
there is mention of serial killers or unsolved murders or abductions, psychological profiling, floats to

Plasma Membrane Lab Report
The Effects of Temperature and Detergent on the Plasma Membrane
Introduction
The Effects of Temperature and Detergent on the Plasma Membrane
Introduction
The fluid mosaic model developed by S.J Singer and Garth Nicolson in 1972 explains the structure of
the membrane. It shows this through the explanation of the phospholipid bilayer which contains
hydrophobic tails and a hydrophilic heads as well as the peripheral and integral proteins which help to
hold the structure. The fluid mosaic model also says how the membrane is in a fluid form rather than
solid because of the constant movement within the membrane (Biology Online, 2008).
The cell membrane is a semi permeable protective layer which protects the cell from the outside
environment by only allowing in and out of the cell only what is needed in order to survive. The cells
that make up the red beetroot contain a compound called betacyanin which is the cause for the red
pigment of the beetroot (Carter Edwards, 2011). The betacyanin is found within the vacuoles of the
cell and is soluble in water (Cellular membrane structure and function, n.d.). The proteins within the
membrane of the cell denature when subjected to high temperatures which causes the membrane to
break apart allowing the betacyanin within the cell to release causing a red pigment to release from the
beetroot. The higher the temperature and the longer at which the beetroot is exposed to it, causes more
pigment to release ( Beetroot Cell

So this raises the question, is using forced labor acceptable if it is for the overall good of the company,
customers, and economy? The International Labor Organization defines forced labor as all work or
service, which is exacted from any person under the menace of any penalty and for which said person
has not offered himself voluntarily. ( Understanding the Role of Labor Recruiters.... ). Apple used
forced labor; they faced many problems in 2012 dealing with forced labor and awful working
conditions. Workers in Apple factories received pay for only a part of the time they worked, and the
pay given was only about $1 an hour. Workers described the conditions as excessive overtime without
a single day off a week, living together in crowded dorms and exposure to dangerous chemicals, and
standing so long our legs swell where we can t walk after a 24 hour shift (Duell). Apple threatened to

Theme of Hope Hope in the face of adversity, hope in spite of the depression and mere survival they
must endure, hope in the face of death and fear. One of the major themes that Cormac McCarthy
emphasizes in The Road is hope: hope for a better world, hope that there are still good people out
there. McCarthy uses the son as a symbol of hope throughout the novel to engage and grasp the

McCarthy utilizes food as a sign of hope. Throughout the novel the father and son are constantly
fighting the struggle of running low on food. When they find the bunker of food the text is full of short
sentences Canned hams. , Corned beef which emphasizes the father s joy and almost disbelief of how
hopeful the future will be with the abundance of good. The way the father also repeatedly says oh my
god, when throughout the book he maintains a fairly non religious view, shows how it finding this
food gives the father hope. Other than the boy the father has hope in very few things. But one thing
which is shown throughout The Road is the father s sense of morals. The father always reassures the
boy and himself that they are the good guys which gives them the hope to keep persevere because they
are, to the father, keeping goodness in the world alive, carrying the flame. Cormac McCarthy presents
the cannibals as a lost hope in The Road. They are almost only referred to as the bad guys and are
described as if they are animals with no hope other than to survive. Choe 3 In the father s dream an

Heart Of Darkness Vs Apocalypse Now Essay
Apocalypse Now vs. Heart of Darkness A Scene Analysis We never realize how important something
is to us until it s lost, and the characters in both Apocalypse Now and Heart of Darkness are no
exception. Heart of Darkness by Joseph Conrad is a novel about a character named Marlow, who is on
a ship along with a sea crew. He shares his adventures in Africa as his curiosity about the man named
Kurtz motivates him to search for him. Meanwhile, Apocalypse Now takes a twist on the tale, taking
place during the Vietnam War. Captain Willard is a soldier part of the U.S. forces sent to search
Vietnam to search for Kurtz, a man who has gone rogue from the army and kept himself hidden from
others, and execute him. Heart of Darkness and Apocalypse Now both illustrate a similar scene, the
helmsman s death along with Clean s and Chief s death in respective stories, as well as deviate from
each other while retaining identical meanings that bring together an underlying message between these
two stories. Good and evil are comparable to a wolf in sheep s clothing, or in Heart of Darkness,

Conrad comes to the conclusion that we should understand what s truly bad and good in the world and
the importance of what we have and through his use of reversal of colors and Marlow s personality
respectively from the Helmsman s death. CoppolaCoppla expands this approach from the deviations
made through the movie, as Clean s death by bullets and his tape by his family signifying the evil
overrunning the good. Meanwhile, the Chief s grieving and rage to the show the sorrow after losing
what we lost in the harsh world surrounding around us . The underlying meaning that both authors try
to convey together is that we must be considerate of our actions. What people and ourselves do to each
other may be evil, and as a result, we lose the good things that are precious to

Comprehensive Sex Education In Schools Essay
The girl looked down at the pregnancy test, seeing those two straight lines, almost staring into the
scared eyes of the sophomore in high school. One time, one mistake, and the girl s life would be
changed forever. In order to prevent devastating situations like this from happening, students need to
be properly educated. If this girl would have learned how to safely use a condom or alternate forms of
birth control, this crisis may have been averted. Teenage pregnancy and STD s can be prevented if
educated properly. Since comprehensive sex education leads to declining pregnancy and STD rates,
school s sex education curriculum must incorporate a more comprehensive based focus.
Comprehensive sex education delays the initiation of sex which leads to decrease teenage pregnancy
rates. Jennifer Grossman Ph.D. in counseling psychology states in schools with comprehensive
programs, 16% fewer boys and 15% fewer ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
According to the Department of Health and Human Services in 2014, 76% of US public and private
high schools taught students abstinence as the most effective method to avoid pregnancy, HIV, and
other STDs (American 1). In ¾ of US high schools, just saying no remains getting taught as the most
effective way to avoid pregnancy and STDs. Abstinence programs are not effective in delaying
pregnancy and STDs. If the way this program continues to be taught remains so ineffective, schools
need to discontinue teaching this subject that way. If students do not know how to use a condom or
how to get on birth control, teens are at an increased risk of STDs. STDs, sexually transmitted
diseases, are an extremely serious issue. While some STDs, like herpes, can be cured with treatment,
other STDs, like HIV, can turn into a bigger problem and lead to death. If teenagers get educated about
how dangerous, and disgusting, these STDs can be, adolescents will avoid STDs at all

Northern Mesopotamia And. Cahokia And Monte Alban
Small communities in southern Mesopotamia evolved to one of the earliest states due to
environmental changes that occurred between the Ubaid and Uruk periods. These environmental
changes such as the creation of Arabo Persian Gulf increased population in certain regions, which in
turn increased competition, warfare, and optimal settings for trade. All this lead to some of the earliest
states being formed in Southern Mesopotamia.
Cahokia and Monte Alban are two examples of primary states that were formed in Mesoamerica due
to their competition level. Monte Alban used strategic warfare tactics to get control over regions that
were rich in resources in order to do create a sustainable state. On the other hand because of Cahokia s
lack of control over distant regions, their state destructed in a very short time period, concluding that
competition was the main reason for early state formation.
In the later years of Northern Mesopotamia civilization, the climate changed dramatically causing the
collapse of several states in the region. Volcano eruptions, increased degree of dryness, and other
changes in the climate destroyed the agriculture in the area causing people to relocate to other states.
This article solidifies the view that environmental changes are the only reason states formed in certain
regions in the first place.

Leadership Team Building in the Project Environment Essay
Introduction
Team building benefits the team as a whole. When people who rarely work together are forced to
communicate, they can discover that they enjoy the interaction and continue to network and bond with
different people back at the office. For many, working in team is difficult, for others is easier than
working alone, not many people are able to respond to the commitment involved in working in a team
environment. And there are usually time imbalances that are generated within work teams. Those who
previously may not have been getting along will have to forget their differences in order to overcome
an obstacle and their dislike is diminished as they work together for a common goal.

Leadership : it allows motivation and encouragement and therefore it enable members to be clear
about the goals that are to be achieved. The leaders are those that display the target and transmit it to
the entire group, establishing the required performance to achieve goals.
Compensation: each member must perceive that receives (not only in financial terms) the recognition
he or she deserves, often the success may decrease if the team does not feel that is receiving the right
rewards, like bonuses or allowing them to strengthen their commitment to the team .
Commitment: once team members establish links with other members who are identified with the
team vision a sense of belonging is generated and it creates engagement, a feature that represents
much more cohesion between team members.
It is important to consider that having clear and shared goals is the greatest incentive for the team not
only to work well together, but being effective and focused. Promoting teamwork involves developing
motivational strategies that involve the participation of all members, where each member understand
that their contribution is necessary and required to achieve the team s objectives. (Heathfield, 2014)
Moreover, we can say that people who participate in a team have some of the following
characteristics:
Knowledge of the team s vision and mission in which they participate.
Interest in what happens in the life of the team.
Contribution to expected results.

She presents the social reality as it experienced by human beings especially women. Her modern
heroines stood against the traditional way of life and patriarchal values. In all her novels she shows the
struggle in martial life. Her most famous novel That Long Silence is the best example to show the
psyche of females, it present the suffocated life story of Jaya who play as a role of wife, mother but
felt lonely. She hates the character of Sita and wants to break down that role. Jaya was liberated and
modern but she was the victim of traditional rules, she was an unsuccessful writer. Her sincerity or
work and love never been appreciated and she has no one to share feelings so she ultimately adapt

Statistics and Compute Mean Sum
Ch.7 # 14 Evolutionary theories often emphasize that humans have adapted to their physical
environment. One such theory hypothesizes that people should spontaneously follow a 24 hour cycle
of sleeping and waking even if they are not exposed to the usual pattern of sunlight. To test this
notion, eight paid volunteers were placed (individually)b in a room in which there was no light from
the outside and no clocks or other indications of time. They could turn the lights no and off as they
wished. After a month in the room, each individual tended to develop a steady cycle. Their cycle at the

Faith In Conspiracy Theories
What if we didn t really land on the moon and Abraham Lincoln was a time traveling extra terrestrial

believable, but it s interesting how easy it is to get so involved in them that one doesn t know what or
whom to trust anymore. In the dictionary, conspiracy is defined as, a secret plan by a group to do
something unlawful or harmful. People have faith in conspiracy theories because they find a certain
comfort in knowing that they cannot be proven wrong (or correct), and humans need compensation on
the unknown or shady and what better way to compensate than to blame the government. One theory

Medea s Manipulation In Jason And The Argonauts
Medea is quite often called Euripides s magnum opus for a multitude of reasons, and the fleshing out
of Medea is one of the most prominent. He created a juxtaposition portraying Medea as both a victim
of society and a cold, cunning, manipulative killer. This brought the issues of slavery, women s rights
and equality to light in ancient Greece. Euripides s masterpiece drama builds on Medea s important
role in Jason and the Argonauts. Now, however, Medea is Jason s antagonist, murdering his new wife,
children and father in law. Medea does this through careful manipulation and scheming, using her
intelligence, cleverness and cunning to create plots deadly to those around Jason in order to exact her
revenge. Unfortunately for Medea, that same ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
She then receives their blessings, with the chorus, knowing that her vengeance will be just. With her
speech to the women of Corinth, she preys on their emotions and the history of disrespect and
mistreatment of women in order to gain their support for her schemes. Within her next few lines, she
is Creon and his emotional ties to his children in order to stay in Corinth for one more day, in order for
her to enact her revenge on Jason. Medea continues her manipulative rampage through to Aegeus,
where she uses the same strategy of evoking empathy, this time using her eminent exile, while at the
same time offering a deal to end his childlessness. She manipulates him through his emotions and by
enticing him with a potion that will end his childlessness in order to secure herself a home in case her
scheming puts her into danger. Aegeus, like Jason and Creon, accepts her deal, and Medea s
manipulation succeeds again. Right after securing her safety, she encounters Jason again. She
apologizes for disagreeing with him and not accepting his logic earlier, and offers her apologies. Yet
again Medea uses her children as bargaining chips in order to manipulate emotions, this time
convincing Jason to let them deliver the cursed gifts to his new wife. Jason accepts the apologies and
the gifts, sentencing his new wife and father in law to

Analysis Of The Movie Ava
Ava had found herself in more than a few situations that had left her cheeks bright red with
embarrassment and shame, but this topped all of them by far. It was bad enough that her bronzed,
nubile body was marred by the grime and dirt that seemed to infest every spot upon the floor of the
locker room. In fact, it was bad enough that her rival, who had just beat and humiliated her in front of
an audience, was now being pleased by Ava s tongue. However, the worst part of it all, as she lay there
with her tongue tween Aida s folds and her breasts being toyed with like they were stress balls, was
that she was enjoying it.
Despite just how terrible and messed up all of it was, Ava couldn t help but feel her arousal growing
by the minute. Her ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
What she had not really counted on was the extensive experience of her opponent, which was not
wholly known to her, or simply just how easy her plan was to decipher.
So, instead of really resisting her opponent, all Ava was doing was playing exactly into the Valkyrie s
hands. And it was to this end that when Aida began to hurl obscenities and threats like alms to a
beggar, she quickened her pace. If everything went according to plan, Aida would flow between
orgasms until the entire experience began to hurt and exhaust rather than pleasure.
Aida moaned out as she began to finish once more, her whole body twitching and writhing against the
admittedly talented tongue of the girl below her. It was always somewhat astonishing to her just how
easy it was to use her conquered foes. She played them like a fiddle, and Ava was no different. The
dumb brunette was, as her phone displayed, just another in a long line girls who had been reduced to
unabashed sluts. The whole idea reminded Aida that one picture of her foe s humiliation was hardly
enough to remind her of just how complete the process had been. As she teetered over the edge of her
second orgasm she grabbed a fistful of her conquered foe s hair, pulling her back just enough to
encapsulate her mouth as she commanded Smile! before snapping a picture and returning Ava to her
place. Looking at the photo, she was pleased at how easily Ava had given in, a wide grin on the

  • 2. Birth Control On Culture And Society Birth control is a huge issue in our social world. Through the many perspectives birth control can connect individuals with society. There is a whole culture set around birth control, the media affects an individual s thoughts, and conflict theory can also affect people s views on contraception. Culture and society have many factors from a social perspective. They consist of objectives, beliefs, behaviors, and any other common traits between a group of people. Of course, culture is not fixed. People are free to choose and change their minds as time passes by. American culture from today is vastly different from 100 years ago. Some of the changes are due to the advancement of technology and new inventions. Birth control is one invention to have an effect on culture. Many people condemn the usage of any form of birth control. Birth control includes hormonal methods, barrier methods, and natural methods. A symbol of maturity can be seen in these methods of contraception. For example, for a teenager boy to receive a condom (barrier method) from his father before going on a date symbolizes the boy ending his childhood and entering adulthood. Also, the condom to the boy symbolizes the trust the father has given to his son. The father believes that his son will be responsible and fully trusts in him to make the right decision. Another way contraception can be a symbol is when a girl decides to use birth control pills. The usage of these pills symbolizes her ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Effects Of Gambling On The United States Gambling in the United States has been fought over for years. The outcomes of gambling have been good, however they have also been bad as well. Between land ownership over where gambling can occur and the outlaw of gambling itself, it has not been an easy topic of discussion. Within these disputes, most of them include conflicts amongst Native Americans and our federal government. In an article from the California Research Bureau stated by Roger Danstan, Indian tribes have used their position as sovereign entities to develop a number of gaming establishments. However, The growth of Indian gaming led to many court battles, including some important ones in California, ( Introduction of Gambling ). Native American territories play huge ... Through the Commerce Clause, Congress has carefully looked upon gambling. This allows gambling, however it could only be on land that belongs to the Native Americans. Aside from the current conflicts with gambling, there are revenues generated from it that contribute to our government. In the same article written by Roger Danstan, he goes on to clarify that, Illegal gaming is popular, though its popularity and prevalence are difficult to measure. An estimated $32 billion was wagered illegally in 1986, resulting in gross revenues of approximately $5.6 billion, ( Introduction of Gambling ). Illegal gambling tends to be the most popular of gambling because it mostly generates the highest revenues. It seems to offer a completely different way for the government and our nation to receive some sort of a steady income. There are many other forms of gambling in the United States other than just typical card games, the sub categories of gambling that aren t quite as popular as forms such as lotteries and casino gaming, include pari mutuel wagering and charitable gambling. Defined by Roger Danstan, Pari mutuel wagering refers to the type of gambling where the total prize pool is based upon the amount of money wagered. • 5. Importance to Be on Time in the Military Essay example It is important to be on time, both in the Army and in the civilian sector, for multiple reasons. Among these reasons, the ones that stand out to me the most are unprofessionalism, being fired, receiving adverse disciplinary actions, and failing your co workers/comrades. Being late or tardy to work can cause not only yourself but everyone at your place of employment problems. When being late or tardy, you are showing that you are not a professional. It can also be assumed that you do not care or respect your job the way you should or need to. I know that when I failed to show up for duty that I not only showed lack of responsibility but also a lot discipline. Not to mention that when everything is running behind and then we all have to end up staying way later than we would have had to stay in the first place. • 6. Faretta V. California Case Study The United States Constitution sets forth that the Sixth Amendment assures that in all criminal tribunals, the defendant shall enjoy the right to have the assistance of counsel for his defense. In addition to the right to counsel, the Sixth Amendment guarantees the right to waive assistance of counsel and the right to conduct one s own defense. The Faretta v. California case set aside a conviction because Faretta was convicted after the trial court proceedings which forced him to accept a public defender. The problem with the Sixth Amendment under the Supreme Court s jurisprudence regarding waiver of counsel needs to be refurbished. The initial stance that was introduced in Godinez v. Moran was too low for a defendant to conduct his/her defense. Issues were raised because defendants are supposed to adopt the right of self representation knowing and intelligently that he/she can in fact represent himself effectively in a court of law. With that being said, before a defendant accept a waiver of the right to counsel, the judge must first and foremost ensure that the defendant is mentally competent to make such a decision to represent himself and that such decision has been knowingly, intelligently, and voluntarily (Slogan, 2008). The Constitution does not allow trial to be conducted of defendants who lack mental competence process (Indiana v. Edwards). • 7. Essay Passion of the Christ The Passion of the Christ is one of many films about the life of Jesus but this particular one is different to the others. Released in 2004, directed by Mel Gibson and filmed in the ancient Aramaic language, `The Passion focuses mainly on the death of Christ and shows us the full extent as to what he suffered to save mankind. Before seeing The Passion of the Christ I hadn t heard much about it except that it was very violent and politically incorrect. In fact I hadn t seen or heard a review that said if it was good or bad or if it was well acted or if it was worth the watch. Even if you can t bear to watch the violence, which is so predominant throughout the movie, there is a lot of emotion, action and even horror that will keep any audience gripped. In this film Gibson uses the devil in the form of a person and he shows us how man is tempted by evil which results in jumps and frights better than most horror films out these days. As far as the violence is concerned, The Passion was very gruesome and disturbing to watch at some points. Some people think it is too much to see someone getting their skin ripped off with metal claws but I think it was a necessary part of the ordeal to which Christ was subjected and it brings home the enormity of what happened. Other films made his crucifixion out to be a graceful and peaceful death almost leaving out the fact that he was nearly flogged to death before even touching his cross. This is not the type of film where you can complain about the story line or say you didn t like the ending, but you do come with an expectation of how you would like them to portray the story. For me I was more than satisfied with how they did it but some more religious people might not like the way little things were changed from the Bible. In The Passion when Judas Iscariot hung himself he didn t say he was sorry to god but we could see that he regretted doing what he did and we knew he was sorry. Gibson also ... Moreover, I know large businesses are ruining the American dream because they leave no opportunity for small business growth, but for a few people, they believe that the American Dream is fine for small businesses to start because they believe that these businesses have an opportunity. Although you re not a survivor of one of the most horrific events in history, it does not mean you will have no feelings about it if you were to hear some stories. I call them stories because most books written of such detail are mere personal experiences and not factual, historical information. Speaking of personal experiences, I took the time to read a book about a man named Viktor Emil Frankl (26 March 1905 2 September 1997).¹ He was an Austrian neurologist and psychiatrist as well as a Holocaust survivor. My aim is neither to abridge the book for you, nor to clarify the ideas of existential treatment, so I will move here to my evaluation and reaction to Frankl s book. To start with, I need to repeat that this book is a superb read. For anybody new to the outrages of a death camp, the tale of human triumph even with such barbarities alone is justified regardless of the read. It also gives a rule to engage people to take liability for their life, and to make importance in it. It gives a model of living over the impact of condition. The initial stage is portrayed by the indication of shock. Frankl speaks of his entry via train at the notorious Auschwitz, when he and his kindred detainees underlying stun and frightfulness rapidly offered a path to the condition known as the delusion of reprieve , the conviction that they would be spared at last, that things couldn t be as horrendous as they appeared. • 10. Wages of Crime by R. T Naylor Introduction: Wages of Crime: Black Markets, Illegal Finance, and the Underworld Economy is a book by R. T. Naylor based on his views of organized crime and the government s stance and involvement. Naylor writes from a mostly democratic point of view and presents his thesis quite clearly. Naylor s thesis in this book is that organized crime is a convenient myth handed to society by the government. In this book Naylor sets up four important concepts: first on the black market operations of guerrilla groups, second on the modern arms market, then on money laundering, and finally the underworld trade in gold. Throughout the book he talks about the critique of the public perceptions of organized crime, a discussion of anti money laundering policies, and an analysis of terrorist financing. Summery At the start of his second chapter Naylor sets up the difference between the motives of insurgent groups versus criminal groups. Naylor claims Criminals commit economic crimes to make money. (pg. 45) and that is where motivation ends for them. The difference between insurgent groups is, money is merely a tool one that is necessary but not sufficient to achieve. Like the formally constituted governments they challenge, insurgent groups have political programs...they have control over armed forces, and they directly compete with the state for territory, population, and resources. Molecular Simulations on the Mechanical Response and Failure Behavior of a Defective Graphene: Cases of Stone Thrower Wales (5 7 7 5) defects G. Rajasekaran Rajesh Kumar and Avinash Parashar Department of Mechanical and Industrial Engineering Indian Institute of Technology, Roorkee 247667, India ABSTRACT Structural defects which are inevitable during the production, chemical and heat treatment processes can affect the mechanical properties of graphene and also defects can be deliberately introduced in graphene by ion beam irradiation to get required properties for specific applications. So, understanding the effect of defects on mechanical properties and failure behaviours of a graphene sheet is important for its applications. In this work, the effects of linear and angular orientation of different types of Stone Thrower Wales (STW 1 and STW 2) defects on the mechanical properties and failure behaviour of graphene membrane have been investigated in the frame of molecular dynamics. This work discussing about tuneable mechanical properties by amending the linear orientation of STW 1 and STW 2 defects at different angles in zigzag direction and armchair direction respectively. Anaheim high school students need to have longer hours in school to study for and get all the help they need and to make that happen there needs to be less summer vacation my argument is that KIPP students are smart and well educated because they have long hours of school and study for approximately 2 hours and read and listen to music for about the same time. Relation of Education Insanity (8). The scores show how students who had longer summer schools had a had low test scores and for those students who had less summer vacations and they had better test scores which is pretty impressive. The beginning is hard but when you try and you challenge yourself you start to believe in yourself and become a successful person. Rewarding students is great to show them they are important and they need to treat themselves from putting in great work, but does it really help encourage and motivates the students? I believe yes it does motivate the students because they look at it as a goal. And it may push them to try harder and be successful. • 13. Similarities Between Hunting And Hunting Hunting and fishing have been around since the beginning of the world. Soon humans would come along and carry on the practice of surviving and thriving this ancient way. Both hunting and fishing are skills that are still used today, but are not used so much as to survive but as a sport. What are the similarities and differences between hunting? Well for those of the readers that have not participated in either events or do engage but have never wondered about this question, hopefully this essay will answer all of your questions about the similarity and differences between hunting and fishing. To be prosperous in both hunting and fishing one must be able to determine the location of the animal you are stalking. While hunting may be easier to track the animal, fish can only move so much because they are stuck in a body of water. Both deer and bass prefer to stick in cover of bushes and fallen trees. Both bass and deer ¨bed during the day; however bass like deer will occasionally move in daylight. Deer can arguably be easier to find because of new technologies like scopes and rifles that can shoot at long ranges, but while bass fishing you are most of the time on a craft which is sitting on top of the water giving you an advantage of being able to see through the it to see the fish swimming. There is also new technology that uses sonar to map the bottom of the body of water and it can track fish movement. Both hunting and fishing require one to be able to read and ... The typical quest structure is as followed: an ideal happiness, disruption of the ideal happiness, tasks to reinstate happiness, and finally the reinstating of happiness. The cycle is never broken. In Neil Gaiman s Coraline, this quest structure is abandoned. Unlike the typical quest structure, the protagonist, Coraline, undergoes a coming of age quest in which the quest structure deviates from the typical structure. Coraline s quest signifies her coming of age when she overcomes what Freud calls her infantile complexes, which then allows her to break the typical quest structure by abandoning her childhood and embracing her adulthood. In response to Coraline s pestering about what she is allowed to do, her mother replies, I don t really mind what you do...as long as you don t make a mess (6) while her father asks Coraline to leave me alone to work (7). Throughout the beginning of the story, Coraline is constantly pushed away and made second to work leaving Coraline alone. This hardly makes for the ideal happiness that the typical quest structure begins with. Coraline starts off with a less than perfect setting that the protagonist loathes. Coraline starts off wishing for something else other than her current family, which contradicts the typical quest where the goal is to return to the ideal happiness the protagonist possessed in the beginning. The fact that Coraline starts off with a less than ideal happiness then leads to another deviation from the typical quest. In the typical quest, there is a disruption to the happiness that leads to distress and sets the quest arc in motion. In Coraline, the equivalent of the disruption that sets forth the quest arc is presented as something desired by Coraline. The first couple of interactions with the other world are something that Coraline had desired in the real world. An example of this is the parents and the world itself. The task was not as easy as I expected when explained in class; but, it was interesting and seeing as though I have learned over the years through my other classes that the average American spends somewhere near 8 hours of their day watching television, the marketing industry has a big advantage using commercials to attract their viewers and manipulate them into purchasing and using or consuming the product they are delivering to them through the television screen. I was unable to document a significant difference in the types of commercials shown during these programs in order to have much of a comparison, but there was enough alike about them to dissect them and really figure out the methods which broadcasting companies use in order to attract their buyers and consumers. For every television channel I have ever watched throughout my life the commercials have always been significantly louder than the actual show I am viewing; not just for these two channels, but I did notice it more when actually having to pay attention. Why does this annoying thing constantly happen every channel I choose to watch? The answer to this question: marketing purposes. It is in the companies best interest on becoming successful with the product they are attempting to sell by turning the volume up on their commercials louder than the actual television show because it attracts the viewers and manipulates them in to paying attention to them. • 16. Examples Of Trask Family In East Of Eden In the novel East of Eden, families are a big part of the novel and a major theme. The aspects of the father son relation, especially the conflict caused by a father s preference for one child over another, is one of the main plots in the story. The Trask family parallels the biblical characters Cain and Abel in many ways. This is an important detail in understanding the meanings behind the novel, as well as the connections the author makes to his own family through the Hamilton family. In the first generation of the Trask family, Cyrus expresses preference for Adam over Charles. And Charles feels this disapproval and resents it deeply. Cyrus, however, is not a good father. His fooling around in the army causes his first wife to kill herself. He then marries Alice because he feels that he can easily control her and and she can do housework. He favors Adam over Charles, causing a rift between the two boys. Cyrus is also a liar, basing his life around a time in the army that never actually happened. It is Cyrus sins and lies that divide the Trask family. High Quality Healthcare At Today s National Health Service High quality healthcare in today s National Health Service (NHS) is defined by NHS England (2013) as having three essential components. Firstly clinically effective care that is seen by patients not just clinicians; secondly that care is safe; and third, care that delivers a positive experience for the patient. As quality care is the focus for NHS England, it advocates NHS employees all working towards this goal. Having a common purpose promotes a sense of direction (Storey and Holti, 2013), and Ham, C. (2014), report that the systems used within the NHS, along with leadership and culture within the organisation, need to be transformed and aligned so that quality of care is the organising principle. Add to this the financial challenges faced (Bevan 2010) and the health professionals today have a difficult time ahead in trying to harmonise all factors in their pursuit of quality care for their patients. Bevan also adds the challenge that when trying to energise the whole healthcare workforce, what skills will be needed? ; And additionally cites that to deliver excellence in healthcare in the context of cost and quality, there has to be a sustainable and systematic approach to improvement methods. Of the three factors equating to quality, enriching the patient experience may be seen as the newcomer compared to clinical effectiveness and safety (Churchill and Warden, 2014), having been highlighted by Lord Darzi in 2008 (DoH, 2008). The basis of detective fictions is a well developed and observant character that is able to walk the audience and outside perspectives through the case. Doyle characterizes Sherlock through underscoring vocabulary and the first person understanding of Watson. The lack of emphasis on her name, but rather her mark on Sherlock, is utilized to present an ambivalent feeling within Sherlock in which he can t identify her as a flaw or test of himself. Doyle proceeds by clarifying the idea of her overbearing image by characterizing her as the dominant image for the whole of his sex in order to reemphasize her presence in Sherlock s highly selective and egoistic memory. Furthermore, Doyle utilizes the close relationship of Watson to clarify that it was not any emotion akin to love in order to introduce the idea of reason rather than emotion, specifically love. Recombinant Dna Techniques Essay In this experiment, individuals were able to use recombinant DNA techniques such as cloning to alter the DNA of a certain strain of yeast called Saccharomyces Cerevisiae. By the use of cloning, scientists are able to analyze and compare the genetic material of a specific organism to another. In this lab, the recombinant DNA techniques are used to transform AmpS E. Coli to AmpR E. Coli. This was done by using an insert, a vector, and a host. The insert was S. Cerevisiae genomic DNA, E. Coli plasmid was the vector, and E. Coli was the host. The technique of gel electrophoresis was also used to determine whether the DNA was cut or not with restriction enzymes. Uncut sequences of the DNA were sent to an outside laboratory for sequencing. Plasma Membrane Lab Report The Effects of Temperature and Detergent on the Plasma Membrane Introduction The Effects of Temperature and Detergent on the Plasma Membrane Introduction The fluid mosaic model developed by S.J Singer and Garth Nicolson in 1972 explains the structure of the membrane. It shows this through the explanation of the phospholipid bilayer which contains hydrophobic tails and a hydrophilic heads as well as the peripheral and integral proteins which help to hold the structure. The fluid mosaic model also says how the membrane is in a fluid form rather than solid because of the constant movement within the membrane (Biology Online, 2008). The cell membrane is a semi permeable protective layer which protects the cell from the outside environment by only allowing in and out of the cell only what is needed in order to survive. The cells that make up the red beetroot contain a compound called betacyanin which is the cause for the red pigment of the beetroot (Carter Edwards, 2011). The betacyanin is found within the vacuoles of the cell and is soluble in water (Cellular membrane structure and function, n.d.). The proteins within the membrane of the cell denature when subjected to high temperatures which causes the membrane to break apart allowing the betacyanin within the cell to release causing a red pigment to release from the beetroot. Workers described the conditions as excessive overtime without a single day off a week, living together in crowded dorms and exposure to dangerous chemicals, and standing so long our legs swell where we can t walk after a 24 hour shift (Duell). Apple threatened to fire employees if they left a 24 hour shift, even though by law, employees cannot work more than a 12 hour shift. On top of the threat of a worker losing their jobs, Apple also did not pay workers for their excessive, overtime hours. McCarthy uses the son as a symbol of hope throughout the novel to engage and grasp the attention of his readers. Hope is what progresses the novel, therefore without hope there is nothing. When they find the bunker of food the text is full of short sentences Canned hams. , Corned beef which emphasizes the father s joy and almost disbelief of how hopeful the future will be with the abundance of good. The way the father also repeatedly says oh my god, when throughout the book he maintains a fairly non religious view, shows how it finding this food gives the father hope. Other than the boy the father has hope in very few things. But one thing which is shown throughout The Road is the father s sense of morals. The father always reassures the boy and himself that they are the good guys which gives them the hope to keep persevere because they are, to the father, keeping goodness in the world alive, carrying the flame. Cormac McCarthy presents the cannibals as a lost hope in The Road. They are almost only referred to as the bad guys and are described as if they are animals with no hope other than to survive. Choe 3 In the father s dream an animalistic creature is scared off by the man and the boy, symbolizing how humanity after the end of the world is something to be afraid of. • 41. Northern Mesopotamia And. Cahokia And Monte Alban Small communities in southern Mesopotamia evolved to one of the earliest states due to environmental changes that occurred between the Ubaid and Uruk periods. These environmental changes such as the creation of Arabo Persian Gulf increased population in certain regions, which in turn increased competition, warfare, and optimal settings for trade. All this lead to some of the earliest states being formed in Southern Mesopotamia. Cahokia and Monte Alban are two examples of primary states that were formed in Mesoamerica due to their competition level. Monte Alban used strategic warfare tactics to get control over regions that were rich in resources in order to do create a sustainable state. On the other hand because of Cahokia s lack of control over distant regions, their state destructed in a very short time period, concluding that competition was the main reason for early state formation. In the later years of Northern Mesopotamia civilization, the climate changed dramatically causing the collapse of several states in the region. Volcano eruptions, increased degree of dryness, and other changes in the climate destroyed the agriculture in the area causing people to relocate to other states. This article solidifies the view that environmental changes are the only reason states formed in certain regions in the first place.
