2. The Weaver Festival Phenomenon By Yoshimoto Summary
Yoshimoto embraces magic realism to highlight Japanese views on grief by interweaving The Weaver
Festival Phenomenon and the scenic images of this event to convey the sorrowful mood (Yoshimoto
147). Yoshimoto describes the Weaver Festival Phenomenon as the boundary between dream and
waking blurred (Yoshimoto 140). Yoshimoto utilizes imagery through the observations of her grieving
characters to produce the image of confusion and hesitation exhibited by many people in a grieving
state of mind globally. Yoshimoto s depiction of grief within Japanese society highlights what
Japanese society considers to be out of norm for their social harmony. However, Yoshimoto contrasts
Japanese society s belief that there cannot be any interruption, like grieving the death of a loved one,

Urara and Satsuki experience the phenomenon at the same place and time allowing them to understand
each other in a higher and unspeakable level. Magic realism established in the novella through the
Weaver Festival Phenomenon is explained by Urara as the dimension we re in time, space, all that

changes the dimension and gravity of where they stand represents the chaos and whirlwind of
emotions that will occur when being with an individual s past. The em dashes furthers this since
Yoshimoto conveys the thought process of Urara as she tries to explain what it will feel like. The event

protractor, 2 sheets of paper.
B. Procedure
Experimental Method
As a result of trail and error method we find the angle for the third pulley and the mass that should had
be suspended from it. This will balance the forces deployed on the strings due to the other two masses.
While the third force is defined as the equilibrant (⃗) Since it is the force
that establishes the equilibrium. It is also the negative of the resultant ⃗ =
4. ⃗ = ⃗ + ⃗. We
gathered and recorded the mass and the angle required for the third pulley to enable to put the system
into the equilibrium in table 1.
To enable to determine the system is in equilibrium we use the following specifications.
Ring Method of Finding Equilibrium
For this method the ring should be centered over the post when the system is in equilibrium. So we
tack the center post down so it will flush with the top surface of the force table and it will be no longer
comptent to hold the ring in the position. We also pulled the ring slightly to the one side and release it
to enable to inspect that the ring returns to the center. Then if not, adjust the mass or/and the angle of
the pulley until the ring constantly returns to the center when it is pulled slightly to one side.

6. Essay on The Choosing Of A Landfill Site
The Choosing of a Landfill Site
There is currently much debate on the desirability of landfilling particular wastes, the practicability of
alternatives such as waste minimisation or pre treatment, the extent of waste pre treatment required,
and of the most appropriate landfilling strategies for the final residues. This debate is likely to
stimulate significant developments in landfilling methods during the next decade. Current and
proposed landfill techniques are described in this information sheet.
Types of landfill
Landfill techniques are dependent upon both the type of waste and the landfill management strategy. A
commonly used classification of landfills, according to waste type only, is described below, together
with a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This strategy is the most commonly used for nuclear wastes and hazardous wastes. It is also used in
some countries for MSW and other non hazardous but polluting wastes.
B) Containment and collection of leachate
Inflow of water is controlled but not prevented entirely, and leakage is minimised or prevented, by a
low permeability basal liner and by removal of leachate. This is the most common strategy currently
for MSW landfills in developed countries. The duration of a pollution risk is dependent on the rate of
water flow through the wastes. Because it requires active leachate management there is currently
much interest in accelerated leaching to shorten this timescale from what could be centuries to just a
few decades.
C) Controlled contaminant release
The top cover and basal liner are designed and constructed to allow generation and leakage of leachate
at a calculated, controlled rate. An environmental assessment is always necessary to that the impact of
the emitted leachate is acceptable. No active leachate control measures are used. Such sites are only
suitable in certain locations and for certain wastes. A typical example would be a landfill in a coastal
location, receiving an inorganic waste such as bottom ash from MSW incineration.
D) Unrestricted contaminant release
No control is exerted over either the inflow or the outflow of water.

What was the importance of Muhammad for the success of the Arab conquests?
The role of Prophet Muhammad, as both a temporal and religious leader was undeniably an important
factor in the success of the Arab conquests. These events took place between 622 and 750, first
involving the establishment of a new unified polity in the Arabian Peninsula, then leading to a Muslim
Empire which stretched from central Asia to North Africa and was one of the largest the world has
ever seen. This overwhelming success merits explanation, yet this is difficult to establish with
certainty, due to the small number and poor quality of surviving sources. Muhammad s main role was

Hourani attributes most of the success of the early conquests to the specific role played by
Muhammad. Muhammed did not play the role of political leader in the Umma or conquests, but took
the position of supreme arbitrator. However, he may have been involved in military leadership; a text
from Syria written between 632 and 634 mentions that a false prophet [had] appeared among the
Saracens... with Sword and Chariot . However, the arabs military success can also in part be attributed
to the warlike nature of their society, which had been apparent in the constant skirmishes which had
previously beset the tribal society. This is a particularly useful source, as the wall of ignorance means
that many of the sources we can access were written by the victors or were passed through Isnad
(word of mouth). The fact that this source does not originate from the victor enhances its reliability.
The motivating force of Islam, and thus the ideas first established by Muhammad, played a crucial
role in the conquests. The new aim shared by many Muslims, to convert the entire world to Islam, was
the most important reason for the initial Arab conquests. This led to an enthusiastic and motivated
army, which facilitated its success. Muhammad continued to inspire Arabs to work together and fight
successfully long after his death. Rather than reckless

Illegal immigration has been around ever since borders were created to divide the world. The reasons
for illegal immigration, stretch from escaping unstable governments, seeking job opportunities, and

The atkins diet is a low carbohydrate diet. The atkins diet claims that a person can lose weight by
getting rid of most carbohydrate consumption. Americans in general lead high carbohydrates lives.
Controlling carbohydrate intake could have benefits to someone s health if they are able to replace the
bad carbohydrates with the good carbohydrates. Atkins diets also have a higher protein intake as well.
Also, Atkins diet user s insulin becomes lower due to the amount of carbohydrate that are being
consumed.
The benefits of the Atkins diet are weight loss, maintenance of weight loss without hunger, good

The third reason it is imperative for the emperor to regard the warnings is to strengthen character. The

Dieter s job involved a repetitive task: using a straight pole with a hook on the end to pull out the
polystyrene bin liner from each empty kiwifruit bin as it passed by on the conveyor line. After this
task, the bins moved along on the conveyor at a slow and steady pace until they reached a stacking

ready for moving along to be loaded on to trucks for transport back to the orchard. Here they were

19. Population Growth in South Florida and Salt Water Intrusion
Introduction
Rapid population growth in South Florida has significantly increased the demand for water and the
strain on the fresh groundwater supplies has triggered more saltwater intrusion to the Biscayne aquifer.
Saltwater intrusion has been one the main contaminant that continues to endanger the Biscayne
aquifer. It has occurred as a result of the followings: the over pumping by wells, the construction of
drainage canals, and the lowering of the water table by drought. Ongoing efforts by South Florida
water agencies to protect the aquifer from saltwater intrusion include groundwater monitoring, water
management and conservation.
The Biscayne Aquifer
An aquifer is defined as underground layers of rock saturated with water that can be brought to the
surface through natural springs or by pumping. Named after Biscayne Bay, the Biscayne aquifer is a
coastal, unconfined aquifer because its top portion is the water table and it merges with the floor of

Braveheart Movie Review History, despite its wrenching pain, cannot be unlived, but if faced with
courage, need not be lived again (Maya Angelou). No matter how hard a scriptwriter and director try
to be historically correct while trying to creating a scene the viewers will enjoy, something will almost
always be historically inaccurate. Braveheart the movie released in 1995, is based in the 13th century
off the legendary life of Scottish hero William Wallace was no exception. During the film, against all
odds William Wallace led a rebellion against the English in May 1297, and surprisingly won at
Stirling Bridge, but later lost at Falkirk. Unfortunately on August 5, 1305 Wallace was captured near
Glasgow, and then later convicted as a traitor to the king. After ... Show more content on

Scottish are known greatly for the wearing of plaid kilts, or a garment resembling a knee length skirt
of pleated tartan cloth, traditionally worn by men as part of Scottish Highland dress. So through out
the whole movie you see Scottish men wearing these kilts. No problem right? Well this is historically
incorrect kilts did not become popular for men to wear until the 17th century. The wardrobes of the
English Soldiers were not any better though. In the movie all the soldiers are wearing matching
uniforms, this did not become popular until the 17th century also. Soldiers in the 13th century would
be wearing whatever they could get their hands on because most of the soldiers were so poor they did
not even have two pennies to rub together. Although the wardrobes were 4 centuries ahead of their
time the director may have had a great reason behind it. The wardrobes may have been done this way
so the audiences can tell between the Scots and English during battle, because most people know
Scots for the kilts and English for the leadership during the middle

When presented with the word community I think comradery, a group of people whom give one a
sense of belonging. According to Webster s dictionary a community is defined as a body of people
having common rights, privileges, or interests, or living in the same place under the same laws and
regulations. According to that definition I felt like it was easy for me to identify with various
communities all at once. My ethnic background, involvement, and gender have all played huge role in
this self identification. I feel as if I am part of a series of communities not only on my college campus

The inclusion on the Act of the definition prevents such an interpretation, due to the fact that it is only
a person s status as a sex worker that is protected. There are four attributes that involve activity ,
namely breastfeeding , political activity , trade union activity and religious activity .9 The Court
compared the definition of lawful sexual activity with these four, and found that only religious activity
is defined in the Act. Such a definition implies that religious activity has categories of activity or non
activity, whereas lawful sexual activity has no such definition and is defined only in the form of status
. Hence, it may be concluded that the attribute cannot be extended beyond status as a lawfully
employed sex worker 10 to include the category of activity the engaging in prostitution on the
premises. Thus the Appeal Tribunal erred in this regard.
In applying the test in section 10(1)11 one must identify the characteristics relevant in the comparator.
The court applied Purvis,12 and state that circumstances that are the same or not materially different

According to our textbook, healthy relationships allow us to gain an overall better quality of life. They
lead to many beneficial attributes, such as, a longer lifespan, a more determined mindset, an active
lifestyle, a stronger support system, and an educated mentality. Whereas, individuals who display a
poor emotional tone in relationships experience the opposite. For instance, they get a poor quality of
sleep, they have little to no motivation to carry out tasks, and overall they lead a much more negative
lifestyle than those who portray a healthier tone in relationships.

When managing interpersonal conflicts the best possible outcome would be attainable by using the
Win Win method because it is able to accommodate the individual needs of all parties involved in a
conflict. The most logical reason as to why this is one of the most effective ways when it comes to
relieving disagreements is because it requires you to understand the others underlying meanings in
their evident messages. Contrasting the Win Win approach, there are three other less successful
techniques in order to sway a conflict. A Win Lose situation is when one individual/group gets their
aspirations granted, while the other individual/group suffers an absolute loss. Also, in a conflict that
practices the Lose Lose technique is when neither of the two individuals involved is satisfied with the
outcome. The last optional method employed in a conflict is compromising. This is a way for both
individuals involved to have only some of their requests met. Meanwhile, each individual separately
forgoes the remainder of his or her requests. However, sometimes the Win Win approach is not always
attainable or realistic, so one may opt for the next best approach, compromise. This is often
implemented when there is not enough time/desire to understand each other s wants. Also, when the
other party involved is clearly noncompliant in employing a Win Win problem solving method, we
may stray more toward the decision to compromise

We are introduced to Melba Pattillo Beals at a young age from her written recollection of old
memories of her not having a fair life before she entered Central High. Once Melba signed her fate to
integrate she faced numerous problems which were threatened days and nights, deadly situations, and
horrifying incidents that got worse once the nine fully integrated. Eventually white segregationists hit
their mark when they infiltrated school grounds in search of the black students, and by doing so, they
made President Eisenhower choose to send the 101st Airborne Division Guards to protect the kids.
The choice had angered many, so the 101st Airborne Division Guards were sent away to be replaced

It is obvious that writing plays a crucial role in a field such as social work. Many first year social work
majors often wonder why such emphasis is placed on writing so early in their studies. Social Work
majors must learn to write clearly, effectively, and appropriately because it will help them later on in
their careers.
Introduction and Objectives
As a first year social work major, I was interested to know the impact writing has on other graduate
students and professionals in my discourse community. Before I began my research, I knew that I
would be required to type papers related to practices in social work and field reflections, but I wanted
to know more about the professional writing I would need to be able to do further into my career. The
goal of this report is to show the importance of writing early in a social worker s career and to show
how writing effectively is crucial in the field of social work.
Method
To accomplish the goals of the report, I set out to interview other students and professionals in my
discourse community. I interviewed a graduate student, a current social worker, and a professor.

31. Four Aspects Of The Four Elements Of Classical Conditioning
Classical Conditioning is the repeated use of stimuli in combination with a repeated significant
psychological event to train the one being conditioned to anticipate the event in response to the
stimuli. The most basic example of this type of conditioning is train an animal to expect treats by
making use of their sense of sound and blowing a whistle or ringing a bell just before you give them a
treat each time. This will train the animal to associate the sound of the whistle or bell with the
reception of the forthcoming treat, and it will begin to salivate in anticipation of getting the treat
whenever it hears the sound.
There are four elements of classical conditioning. These elements of classical conditioning include
unconditioned stimulus, unconditioned response, conditioned stimulus, and conditioned response.
These four elements make up the classical conditioning procedure. An unconditioned stimulus in an
experiment is a stimulus that elicits a response from the subject of the experiment without any
previous conditioning. This can be anything that elicits an instinctual response that an organism might
have, such as the treat that the animal salivates over as described in the experiment in paragraph one.
An unconditioned response in any response regarding an unconditioned stimulus. In the case stated in
paragraph one, the unconditioned response would be the salivating of the animal in anticipation of the
treat. A conditioned stimulus is a stimulus that would have no

Different Times, Different Ideals The world is a very different place than it was 1,000 years ago. There
was a time in our history that women were not valued for anything other than their sexual function,
and they were expected to quietly tumble into the social image men created for them. Racism also was
commonplace and widely accepted, and violence was a casual occurrence of life then. This time
period is known as the Victorian Era. A very widely known children s book today was actually written
during this time period by J.M. Barrie Peter Pan. This novel created for children contains the Victorian
Era s socially accepted ideals relating to sexism, racism, and violence and the physical acts resulting
from the prevalence of these ideas at that time, which are most certainly outdated and considered
inappropriate for children in today s society despite the obviously uninformed popularity that remains
with this tale.
This book displays its sexism quite openly. There is an ongoing battle of two exceedingly different
sides of womanhood throughout the story. It encourages the engagement between a mother like figure
and a harlot. Throughout the novel, all the female characters must either be parental or crave the
companionship of a male character, which often results in jealousy. Wendy and Tinker, being the two
main female characters of the story, represent these two different types of women acceptable in the
Victorian Era.

and for driving without a driver s license in his Porsche 911 (Montaldo 2015: 1). It is rumored that

Skepticism is one of the most important debates in philosophy, skepticism could be describe as the
doubt or refusing attitude towards reality and knowledge. This idea of doubting knowledge has been
around since the 1st century BC with the foundation of the Greek skeptic school known as
Pyrrhonism. Since that time, the idea of skepticism has remained the same and many people from our
time still questioning themselves about reality; How can I be certain about reality, if I cannot even
trust my own senses? . One of the many examples of this belief is Rene Descartes and his famous
Dreaming Argument ; where he states that everything that we know is only part of a dream, a dream
where nobody wants to wake up because we feel comfortable on it and we are afraid that reality could
