Comparison Of Rascal Flatts And Aka Pygmy Culture
It is evident that fathers across all cultures are different along with their way of parenting their
offspring s, but ages also change or stay the way we parent our offspring s and the kind of care we
offer them. The care that Rascal Flatts is providing his daughter is very similar to the one of Aka
Pygmy culture. He says I hope you never look back, but you never forget, All the ones who love you,
in the place you live which shows traits of the hunter and gather community by the long term kinship.
Ties of kinship are vitally important in all hunting and gathering groups and social interaction usually
organized around kinship roles which include nuclear and extended in this case Rascal Flatts daughter
is considered nuclear. It is clear that

Cost Of Art Education
Pablo Picasso once said Every child is an artist. The problem is how to remain an artist once he grows
up. Think about this, when a child is young they are given crayons and paper to occupy their time;
mothers sing to their babies or play them classical music. From a young age we are taught to create,
and we really are all artists. We create until creation is deemed nonessential, and the art projects we
work into our everyday routine are demoted to electives. Funds for Education have been cut in over
80% of U.S. schools in the last 10 years, and the first programs to leave are often art education.
Harvard President Drew Faust recently wrote. The same classes we as a nation are deeming
unnecessary are mandatory in countries that rank consistently ... Show more content on

School System needs to stop defunding art programs because art is important in our history. Without
art, we would have less interpretation of our history. In any history class we study the artists of each
time period and how they interpreted their times. Most of what artists do is tell stories, they help us
make sense of the world. It can connect us to the past, present and the future. Throughout history our
greatest minds have often merged discovery and art, the geniuses we learn about in history aren t only
math matachins or scientists, but artists on top of that. Einstein stressed the importance of having a
creative mind, once saying I m enough of an artist to draw freely from my imagination, which I think
is more important than knowledge. Knowledge is limited. Imagination encircles the world. Without art
we would have a much more narrow view of our past, and future generations will have a narrow view
of our current events. Sure, you could say that we still have a history without art; but without photos,
paintings, and sculptures would we really fully grasp our past? By cutting our generation off from art
education we are cutting off future generations from learning too. Without artists to document our
history, our great grandchildren will be without that connection to what s going on today. While art
connects us to the past, and the world s history, it connects us to so much

John Nash Schizophrenia
John Nash is a renowned mathematician most recognized for his theory of equilibrium and life
struggle with schizophrenia. A Nobel Prize laureate and quite the living legend, John Nash completed
his graduate studies in mathematics at Princeton University ( People and Events: John Nash (1928 ),
1999). He later worked on the faculty at MIT before returning to Princeton as a Professor/researcher (
Big Ideas. Big Thinkers. John Nash, 2003). Though Hollywood is often responsible for depicting
mental affliction and above par intellect as intrinsically congruous (common examples include Silence
of the Lambs and Mr. Brooks), this is not the norm. John Nash is considered an anomaly when
analyzing schizophrenia; most clients with schizophrenia are of ... Show more content on

Most patients who decide to stop taking their pills or abandon their treatment plan do not usually get
better. However, it important to note that when Nash initially stopped his treatment plan, he functioned
relatively poorly for many years ( Leo Torrey, 2002). In the 1980s, Nash started to improve and
became more engaged with the world around him ( People and Events: John Nash (1928 ), 1999). He
even received the Nobel Prize in economics in 1994, at the very ripe age of 66 ( People and Events:
John Nash (1928 ), 1999)! Nash is now exploring mathematics at an office in Princeton and has
remarried his wife ( People and Events: John Nash (1928 ), 1999). It is unclear how he improved yet it
is important to shy away from the idea of random miracle recoveries. Old age tends to bring on a
remission of symptoms. Dr. Nash has not received a miracle cure but rather has had a partial remission
of his symptoms related to his advancing age (Leo Torrey, 2002). Furthermore, John Nash has learned
to almost actively reject his hallucinations. He is quoted in A Straight Look at Schizophrenia, as
saying, if one makes an effort to ërationalize one s thinking then one can simply recognize and reject
the irrational hypotheses of delusional thinking (Keefe, 2002). It appears that his illness has left him to
cope in a way that his genius mind can handle. He understands his disorder and conceptualizes the

Arguments Against Utilitarianism
Utilitarianism: For and Against
Utilitarianism is a moral theory that is centered around the concept of happiness. Although there are
many varieties of the theory, utilitarianism is generally thought to be the view that the morally right
action is the action that produces the most good. Happiness is considered to be an act that people seek,
and an ultimate goal for human beings. Classical utilitarianism focuses on the concept of happiness
and actions, as well as their consequences that impact others, not just an individual. English
philosophers Jeremy Bentham and John Stuart Mill have two different approaches to utilitarianism. I
will explain the development of utilitarianism from both Jeremy Bentham and John Stuart Mill,
discuss two objections ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the most general sense, I believe in the idea that actions are right if they are useful or beneficial for
the majority. The strengths of utilitarianism are ones that make sense to me. The two major strengths
of utilitarianism, as an ethical theory, stand out to me. The first strength being that it provides an
answer for every ethical situation a person could be placed in. In every situation, it is important to
always work to promote the most good in a situation. The second strength being that it has a moral
core that appears to coincide with ethical intuition in most people. Humans work to promote the good
for humanity and also work to alleviate suffering. Utilitarianism shows that ethics is not so much
about following rules as acting in a manner that coincides with the values that one finds important in
ethical action. Although I value the importance of those listed above, I also understand the criticisms
of utilitarianism. I think that utilitarianism, though appealing because it ensures the greatest amount of
happiness for the most people, is not completely

San Diego Togetherness
The University of San Diego is the most picturesque and interesting school I have ever seen. The
amazing campus flows on top of the massive hills and above the amazing city of San Diego. From any
building or road on campus, you can get a view unattainable anywhere else in the world. The attribute
though, that separates this university from all others, is the history behind it. The rich religious history
gives every part of the campus meaning, not found at many other universities in America. These
religious beliefs give the University of San Diego and academic feel unrivaled by any other school.
The togetherness that is brought by religion is something that is very uncommon in today s world.

Physician assisted suicide involves a doctor purposely and knowingly providing knowledge or means

serious cancers or disease that have no cure, usually suffer the pain in hospital bed till time comes for
them to permanently be free from pain. This process offers an immediate relief to those patients.
Should physician assisted suicide be permitted in Canada? Physician assisted suicide should not be

The On The Foreclosure Crisis
The last five years have been a rollercoaster for the average American homeowner. I personally know
many people who were unable to keep their homes. Most of the reasons were extenuating loss of job,
decline in business, death of family ultimately resulting in no longer being able to afford the
mortgage. Unfortunately there were some very irresponsible decisions that contributed to the
foreclosure of homes, for example, financing huge second and third mortgages to pay for frivolous
activities and items. With the last half decade of hard lessons learned for previous home owners many
are looking to venture into the market again with some more creative financing options. Many sellers
are turning to options such as rent to own or seller carrying the contract with a down payment as well
as buyers borrowing against existing retirement and life insurance accounts. The rent to own option is
one that very desirable for potential home buyers as well as sellers. They are able to live in the home
that they desire to own and all rent payments that are made are put towards to the future mortgage
similar to a buying a car. The future buyers pay a certain amount each month to live in the house, and
at the end of a set period generally within three years they have the option to buy the house. Each
month of rent they pay is income for the seller, while a portion of it goes toward a down payment to
eventually purchase the home. Both future buyer and seller need to be very clear about the

Improving The Poor Or Third World Countries
Reflecting upon things I am most passionate about or involved in I instantly thought of working with
children and the elderly, then I thought of those who I showed no interest in working with. Initially,
volunteering to help the poor or third world countries came to mind. First, while I am a caring person,
I did not think to help those in poverty before in the community because I myself grew up in a low
income family surviving off food stamps or welfare, so I thought if I am capable of coming out on top,
then others are as well. However, I did not think of the support I got along the way. I did not think of
how not everyone gets accepted for food stamps, or that if a family does that the amount is not
reasonable since I have seen families only receive sixteen dollars who need far more than that.
Second, when it comes to third world countries the saying goes, Out of sight, out of mind. I did not
want to live life thinking this way anymore, so it was time to make a change. To put it differently, I
reflected upon Karen Armstrong s negative version of the Golden Rule mentioned in the sixth step,
Action, Do not do to others what you would not like them to do to you (Armstrong ). In like manner, I
would not want to be cast to the side in my time of need, neither should I do that to others.
The first hands on experience I received was volunteering with Old North Methodist Church at Oak
Hill Middle School. The church works with an organization named Fair Trade Market, which

Critique of Title IX
What if you were told that a law was made to remove discrimination of sexes in sports and education,
or that man and woman are both given equal opportunities as far as an athletic or educational career?
Would you then agree or disagree with the ideology that both sexes are still treated different even
though this law was created and the opportunities that were promised aren t precisely
indistinguishable? Title IX does not accurately protect sexual discrimination; it doesn t give equal
opportunities, and is unjust as far as benefits between male and female sports. Although this law

In order to comply with Title IX the schools had to effectuate with what s called proportionality. (CBS

athletes that is female. Therefore setting a balance between the schools ratio and the athletic ratios and
also enforcing Title IX. The problem that balancing caused was that the school had to add more
women sports which cost more money to the school, or choose to cancel some of the schools male
sports. Subsequently, the schools had to do what was best for the school and to avoid going into debt
for sports the male sports had to be put on the burner. Many schools cut male wrestling, track and
field, tennis, and gymnastics teams instead of adding women sports. Jason Lewis a gymnasts whose
team was eliminated said that the number of men s teams are dwindling because colleges are dropping
what are called the minor men s sports, the ones that don t draw crowds or make money, and investing
more and more in just one sport football. The Fact that just twenty three years ago, there was 107 men
s gymnastics teams in this nation, now there are only 20 teams left just so happens to prove Lewis s
statement to be true.(CBS news) Finally, Title IX says that equal benefits should be given to both men
and women in the sports and education industries, but there are people who disagree with this
statement. Title IX was not made for the intent of giving women a beneficial

What Was The Influence Of Foreign Films In The 1940 s
In the early 1940 s, foreign films were made and created an important impact to filmmaking all around
the world. Foreign films allowed viewers to see different cultures and traditions of other countries.
Most of these films were shot in black and white with subtitles to go along against the background.
They were sometimes grainy and did not have as good sound quality as Hollywood films had because
they were produced with such a small budget. This transition of new camera techniques and editing
began to end the Production Code era and started what was known as the neorealism movement in
Italy. Films with subtitles are not very mainstream nowadays, although, people loved foreign films
with subtitles post war because mostly everyone was reading newspapers, letters and books during
that generation. These foreign films were often played in art houses and they were very trendy for the
newer generation because they were more truthful than the Hollywood films and what could be seen

Rhetorical Analysis Of Gregory Crewdson s Natural Wonder
Gregory Crewdson s untitled photograph from the series Natural Wonder presents an eerie close up of
a scene taking place in the woods. The attention of the audience is brought to a small fox who lies on
its back, dead. Surrounding the fox are an abundance of overgrown grape vines. Perched atop the fox
are three birds who stare questioningly at the site around them. Behind the copious amount of leaves
and grapes is a somewhat cheerful looking, white background containing buildings and smoke, a
noticeable difference from the forest scene which is more apparent to the audience. Through his
placement of objects, use of color, and change of scenery, Crewdson expresses the negative effects of
industrialization on wildlife. Crewdson uses placement of objects by making the dead fox the central
theme of this photograph to delve into the feelings of the audience. Because foxes are animals with
great knowledge of the woods, it would be unlikely for them to suddenly die while in their natural
habitat. This leads the audience to wonder what might have happened to cause the fox s death which
can be symbolized by the birds above the fox who seem to be wondering the same thing. Although
birds symbolize freedom, they are staying behind to witness the destruction of the land around them.
Crewdson also places the leaves and overgrown grapevines of the photograph in an unorderly way.
This shows that the forest is not being taken care of causing the loss of this fox. The audience feels

amount of cash they should hold in their reserve in order to be able to cover the potential loss.
Although the term Value at risk has not been used till the1990s, the origins of its measure lie further
back in time. The arithmetic behind the VaR were developed by Harry Markowitz (1952) in his studies
of effects of asset risk, return, correlation, and diversification on probable investment portfolio returns
which contributed to the modern portfolio theory. In fact, the trigger of the use of VaR came from the
crisis that tormented the financial market and the regulatory responses to these crises. After the great
depression of 1929, the Securities Exchange Act established in 1934 the Security Exchange
Commission (SEC), a federal government agency in charge of regulating stocks and options
exchanges. Since the SEC initially required banks to keep their borrowing below 2000% of their
equity capital, Banks developed risk measures and control devices to ensure that they meet the capital
requirements. In the 1970, the introduction of financial derivatives markets and floating rate
exchanges have significantly increased the volatility, which is the risk, in the financial markets. The
latter was confirmed by the failure in 1995 of Barings, the British investment bank, by the
unauthorized trading in Nikkei (Japan s stock market) financial derivatives (futures and options) by

The Body Found By Sid Bennett
Many kids grow up watching Disney movies, and young girls who idolize Ariel from The Little
Mermaid hope that mermaids might be real. In the mockumentary Mermaids: The Body Found,
directed by Sid Bennett, the idea of mermaids is explored when the actors proclaim that mermaids
were found among beached whales due to Navy Sonar tests (IMDB par 2). Bennett mixes fact with
fiction in an attempt to get people to relate to the beached whales. He makes a mockumentary that is
believable to many due to how closely it resembles a real documentary, complete with actors posing as
credible scientists. Despite having no evidence, people want to believe that myths such as mermaids
do exist. Bennett s purpose of the film is to convince people to care about how the Sonar tests affect
whales by trying to make it seem as if mermaids are going through the same thing. However, he is
unsuccessful because he fails to make a connection with the audience, does not have enough credible
information on mermaids, and does not focus enough on the whales themselves. During the
mockumentary, an anecdote is told about a mermaid who sacrifices himself to Megladon, a huge,
prehistoric shark, for his family so they can get away and stay safe (Mermaids n.p.). This is an attempt
to make the audience feel empathetic towards the mermaids and to relate to them. It is human nature
to protect young children and in the past it was the man s job to protect his family. However, this is

The Progression Of Vaccination
It is perceived to be a social standard in society to uphold high beliefs in vaccinations. Medical
professionals as well as historic scientific research support the progression of immunization and its
historical triumph against infection and disease. For example, English physician Edward Jenner
pioneered the smallpox vaccine, which opened the doors for more ventures into the world of
vaccinations. Due to the advancement in technology of the 21st century, we are able to address more
diseases and create new components for vaccines to help find innovative ways to distribute them and
test effectiveness. The progress in science has always been the driving force for the development and
improvement of an effective vaccine. With the second golden age

Ordinary People Sparknotes
In the book Ordinary People by Judith Guest the person I relate with most is going to be Conrad
Jarrett. Conrad is the son of Calvin and Beth. In the story Conrad was in a boating accident with his
brother which caused his brother s death and Conrad blamed himself for his death. Then Conrad a year
later tried to commit suicide and it forced him to have to spend time in a hospital to get better. When
Conrad gets out he still feels little purpose in life and no motivation. He starts to see Dr. Berger to help
him recover from everything he has been through. My relation with his problems isn t exactly the
same but I can relate in a way. My stepdad had a car accident and the car accident caused his death.
Me and my family were devastated when we found out. It can really change a lot when a family
member dies.
In chapter 13 Conrad gets into an argument with his mother. Beth hears from Lazenby s mother that
Conrad quit the swim team. Beth is mad because he quit and didn t tell them about it. Conrad says that
he just spends his time at the library, Conrad is getting angry and says that he would have told them if
he thought they cared. Then Conrad ends up telling Beth to go to hell. I can relate to Conrad in this
chapter because of him getting in arguments with his parents because I seem to do it every now and
then. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I can relate because I do the same I wake up then I just think of everything I have to do and whatever
is on my mind. Conrad also had a passion for a sport that he liked but didn t have fun because he didn

used to have a passion for basketball and I always wanted to be better but I didn t like the people I
played with but I just played through that so I could do what I loved so that s how Conrad s situation

Financial Analysis JET2 Task 3 A1. Capital Structure Recommendation A sound capital structure
needs to be in place for Competition Bikes to maximize its shareholder return and expand. A good
capital structure would ensure adequate funding and future business stability. However, adequate
funding involves capital financing which also has its own risks. If bonds are issued, the company
would have to pay interest on them but if sales projections aren t met, this could have a huge negative
impact on shareholder earnings. Also dividends could be impacted if no shares issued to cover growth
or expansion costs because profits will have to be spread among larger number of shares. To provide a

The total earnings per common stock is $.16 for years 9 13. 2. Discuss capital budget areas that raise
concern. 9% Bonds Income before taxes was hugely lowered because of the significant amount of
interest paid to the bonds. This caused the total income paid for common stock after paying the
income taxes to be the lowest in all structures. Also, these bonds means more debt was added to the
company. The more bonds the greater the amount of debts. For a firm with such amount of debts, will
likely find itself struggling to manage cash flow because of the many payments with interests no
matter how much the income will be. As a result, this option provided the lowest earnings per
common share in years 9 13 of $.103. 50% Preferred stock (5%, $50 par), 50% Common stock This
option provided for zero interest payment on bonds. The company will be able to keep all earnings
before interest in taxes because interest on bonds will be paid. The company will have the most net
income out of all structures which resulted to $.203 for years 9 13 of earnings per common share. It is
the recommended option to consider. 20% 9% Bonds, 80% Common Stock This option is a mixture of
bonds and common stock which provides a much better form of financing the business than having
only bonds. The main reason is because it reduces interest rates to be paid on bonds while increasing
income before taxes. With this option, the

The Reformers During Andrew Jackson
The Reformers During Andrew Jackson s term as president, many people seemed to be more involved
in wanting to change people s lives and equalize politics. Jackson believed that a common man should
have the right to have a voice in democracy. (Grubb) Therefore, once Jackson was elected president
people began focusing on the crisis in the American society. Several reformers stated their
perspectives on different things that America can improve on whether it was about abolition, mental
health care, education, religious reform, or women s rights.
Slavery has been a continuous altercation in abolishing it or keeping it. William Lloyed Garrison
preached about abolition of slavery stating that slavery does not define Christians. Slaves have the
right to have the same exact rights and freedom as a normal white American. As slavery was still
going on, William questions what Christianity has done for our slave population. In a religious point
of view, slavery is a national sin that must be removed. William compares how slavery would be for a
white person versus an African American and states, The argument that these white slaves are
degraded would not then obtain. You would say: It is enough that they are white and in bondage, and
they ought immediately to be set free. (William Garrison) William sets a growing sense of social
responsibilities by trying to get America to look at slavery in the eyes of a Christian. The American
society today has drastically changed into everyone

Reflection Paper On Reading Skills
From working with Joe for the past few weeks, I noticed there were a few different reading skills that
he could use some practice with. One of the first things I noticed while working with Joe was his
fluency while reading. During the running records I had done with Joe, I was able to listen to his
reading pace, and noticed that he only took pauses when he needed to take a breath. I also noticed that
he used no expression while reading; not even when there was quotation marks present. Another
reading skill that Joe lacked was good use of a decoding strategy. When Joe was presented with a
word he didn t know, he would use picture cues, but when that didn t work, or when illustrations were
minimal, Joe would simply skip over the word. When I asked Joe what he liked to do when he came
across a word he didn t know he said, I don t know . I got a similar answer when I asked him if he
knew what his teacher, and friends did when they came across a word they didn t know. This
observation showed me that Joe could really benefit from having a decoding strategy presented to him
in a minilesson. On the first day of co teaching; my partner and I focused on teaching a decoding
strategy, so we could practice that strategy if needed while doing a fluency exercise the next time we
met. Taberski mentions how working with words, and decoding strategy will help students move from
hesitancy to fluency (pg 87). Both Alexa and I thought that our learning partners could benefit from

Due Process Essay
Due Process
The phrase innocent until proven guilty has been quoted for many years. In our society, we have
labeled the accused person either guilty or not guilty without giving that person or persons their rith of
due process. Webster s New World College Dictionary Fourth Edition says: Due Process is the course
of legal proceedings established by the legal system of a nation or state to protect individual rights and
liberties. Due Process will allow an accused person time to go through the court proceeding, in hope
of proving his or her innocence or guilt. Due Process will give the individuals who have been accused
of a crime the right to a fair and public trial, the right to be at the trial, the rith to an impartial jury, and

A jury trial is made up of twelve citizens of the community who have been randomly selected to serve
on the jury. The jury had been given the authority to judge the facts of the case, and them apply the
law that was given by the judge to those facts, and render a verdict of guilty or not guilty.
During the jury trial, the accused person will be represented either by a paid lawyer of his or her
choice or by a court appointed one. During the trial it is solely upon the prosecution to prove the guilt
of the accused person, and it is up to the accused person and his representation to rebut the
information the prosecution presents. When the jury has heard all of the evidence against the accused
person, they will decide on whether the person is guilty or not guilty. If the accused person is found
guilty by the jury, he or she will be sentenced according to the law. If the accused person is found not
guilty by the jury, he or she will be able to return back into society as a free person.
As we can see, due process has changed our justice system from hastily prosecution to time
consuming investigation of all the facts. We should stop pre judging the accused person until all of the
facts are made known unto us. Due process has given all accused citizens an equal opportunity to tell
their story, and the right to question the evidence that was brought against them. Even though due
process has guaranteed the accused person his or her right to be heard

How Did Newton s Laws Change Beliefs About Force And Motion
Beliefs about force and motion before Newton s Laws were very different than beliefs after them. One
belief, which was from Galileo, resolved that any two things that fall together, fall at the same time,
even if they are as heavy as an elephant. Another belief was from Rene Descartes. It stated that a ball
traveling, which is uninterrupted, will keep going in a straight line. Beliefs before Newton s Laws
were exceedingly different than what they are now. Newton s Laws of Motion changed beliefs about
force and motion drastically forever. The first law of motion states that an object at rest stays at rest
(Newton/Slideshow). This law is also called the Law of Inertia. Inertia is an object s intransigence to
changes with/in, which is why the first law is called this name. Newton s Laws have drastically
changed beliefs about force and motion forever. Newton s Second Law is about momentum, mass, and
acceleration. It states, When a net force acts on an object, it produces a change in the momentum of
the object in the direction in which the force acts (Newton/Slideshow). Normally, mass stays the same,
so Fnet equals mass times acceleration. Also, An object accelerates when the sum of all forces acting
on it is not zero (Slideshow). Newton s Second ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It states, When one body exerts a force on a second body, the second body also exerts a force on the

opposite reaction (Newton/Slideshow). The full momentum of connecting objects is conserved (they
remain the same) when the forces are acting between them (kinda slideshow ish). Forces will always
come in action reaction pairs. Action reaction pair forces will always act on different objects

The Bandura Study Essay
The Bandura Study
A) The Bandura study aimed to see if children copying aggression that they see in adults. In the study
a male or female model was aggressive toward a bobo doll, the children were then observed to see if
they imitated any behaviour shown by the model, or if they were/weren t aggressive. There were also
2 control groups, one of which had seen a non aggressive male/female model and another group was
observed after seeing no model.
The results showed that the children were more aggressive when they had seen the aggressive model.
Boys were, on average, more aggressive than girls. The gender of the model also had an affect on the
behaviour of the children. Boys were more ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This may have made the child more aggressive than it would usually have been which would show
that child as being more aggressive and so affecting the results. There was also a big cultural change
in the years following Banduras study. When this study took place there were very stereotypical views
of men and women, this means that the children may have been reluctant to copy the behaviour of the
aggressive female model, but were more likely to copy the behaviour of the aggressive male model,
because society at the time expected more aggression from men. Girls may also have been less
aggressive at that time because it was what was expected from society and vice versa with the boys.
2. Another problem with snapshot studies as they really go against the point of developmental
psychology. They don t look at how children develop and change over time, a snapshot just looks at
one aspect over a very short period of time. Generalisations are then made of all children and young
people, from the results of a few children of a certain age. In the Bandura study he used children of a
nursery age and observed them for only 20mins; the results are then seen has having big implications
on television and computer games. The results could have been like they were because children of that
age are impressionable or that they feel that they have to copy adults more than older children,

Difference Between Faith And Knowledge
I enjoyed reading Pascal s wager so much that I decided to write my paper on him. I m going to dig
deeper into his background and answer key questions like what is the relationship between faith and
knowledge? Is faith in god justified? Why? How? In matters of faith and relationship with God, is the
question of the existence of God even relevant? Why or Why not? I am going to answers these key
questions in the upcoming paragraphs. I will briefly explain the argument of Pascal s wager and the
reasoning behind it. Is there a God? Should I believe in God? People think about this question
everyday. Pascal is famous, among other things for his wager argument. It was a groundbreaking
theory at that time. It s basically a risk vs ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I will continue to defend Pascal s argue that if you look at the bigger picture, it s better to believe in
God than it is not to believe. Pascal wanted us to make a choice. He was a mathematician and
physicist. He developed the rules for probability, which we still use today. Which makes a lot of sense
because Pascal basically paved the way for gambling. We will answer an important question, What is
the relationship between faith and knowledge? Knowledge is both objective and subjective.
Knowledge is attained through reason, faith is belief based without evidence, something that cannot be
seen. Everything we know is a matter of perception. Science and history is a great example of
knowledge and the bible is an example of faith. It makes me think back to one of our earlier classes
that we were talking about Locke s argument that we are born with a blank sheet of paper ideas and
knowledge come to us through our experiences and senses. Descartes on the other hand believed that
we are born with ideas/knowledge and you use experience to remember them. My view is that the
relationship between faith and knowledge is that you should have faith only in knowledge, which you
could then attain enlightenment through that because knowledge is wisdom. The older you get, the
more wisdom you received. Pascal goes on to mention on page 357, Who then will

Persuasive Essay On Garage Door Opener
Many homeowners use power strips with surge protectors to protect their computers, televisions, and
other home electronics. Buying low cost surge protectors for expensive home technology is a wise

electronics: your garage door opener. If the control board is damaged by a power surge, your garage

manually open and close your garage door, which is an inconvenience. On the other hand, the damage
may cause your door to function erratically, which makes it unsafe. How Power Surges Occur A

The Importance of Ethics in the Workplace Essay
The Importance of Ethics in the Workplace
In their personal and professional lives, people can and, unfortunately, sometimes do go against their
moral and ethical standards. Ethical standards are what it means to be a good person, the social rules
that govern our behavior. Ethics in business is essentially the study of what constitutes the right and
wrong or the good or bad behavior in the workplace environment. A business is an organization whose
objective is to provide goods or services for profit. The organization has a group of people that work
together to achieve a common purpose. The moral challenges that these men and women face each
day along with a whole range of problems that could occur, are why ethics plays such an important ...

Per a quote from Lieutenant Gov. Mary Fallin in Oklahoma: It s hard at times to find people that will
take the high road, and that s why we see so many of the scandals we ve seen, like WorldCom and
Enron, said
Fallin. It s not what happens to you that determines where you are in life, but its how you respond to
what happens to you. (Smith, 2005, 7)
What a valuable employee, Sue definitely took the high road and handled that dilemma with integrity.
Each person has many reasons for being ethical. Some reasons can be: inner beliefs, habits, virtue
because it is its own reward, personal advantages, it s good business, there is approval, being an
ethical person can lead to self esteem, the admiration of loved ones and the respect of peers. There is
also religion because it is believed that good behavior can please or help serve a deity. Ethical actions
can fit in with upbringing or training. Ethics starts with the individual employee choosing the right or
wrong decision.
The second ethical dilemma that our group provided was one that dealt with sexual harassment.
Sexual harassment encompasses a wide range of unwelcome sexual conduct. Per Title IV of the Civil
Rights Act of 1964 this is the first paragraph on the EEOC web page about sexual harassment:
Unwelcome sexual advances, requests for sexual favors, and other verbal or physical conduct of a
sexual nature constitutes

Natural Gas has been touted as a much Greener Fuel as compared to Oil and Coal. However some
experts dispute the fact that Natural Gas is cleaner and say that if you consider the lifetime impact
from the mining of Gas to its use it may be more harmful to the environment than Oil. Natural Gas
leads to Air Pollution due to some Gas that escapes into the Air and it?s not possible to capture all the

Furthermore, the deliberate increase in terrorism in USA can be traced to huge amount of money been

fossil fuel energy, Natural Gas Energy has much impact in depleting, and does not form a sustainable
answer to man?s energy questions. Natural Gas is highly combustible and it can lead to explosions if
not carefully handled. This is the reason that it is not used in vehicles more. Also it exists mostly in the
gaseous state which makes handling it more difficult than Oil.

Drifters Bruce Dawe Analysis
Good Morning and Welcome Year 11 students to the Poetry Seminar. My name is Will and I am here
to present to you an Australian poem which represents belonging. The poem that I have chosen to
analyse is Drifters by Bruce Dawe. Today I will be discussing how the poem relates to belonging, two
important figurative devices within the poem and an extrapolation of the taught poem migrant hostel
which also explores the idea of belonging. Firstly, how the poem relates to belonging. The poem
Drifters represents belonging by the family not being able to settle as they keep on moving houses and
communities. Belonging to a place is linked to belonging in a family. Everyone in this family is
affected by the father s decision to relocate. To belong in this family, movement is required, despite
individual desires. Family members often have to compromise or sacrifice what they want in order to
belong in their family. Some members request to establish a permanent sense of home while others
don t. This is shown in the opposite opinions of moving within the family based on how they fitted in
the town they were living in for example the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

This shows that the family is not in a place long enough to be able to grow a healthy crop. These
berries represent the family as they also appear to be happy at the start of the poem as they were
settled in their home, loving life however after the father announces that they would be moving,

  • 2. Comparison Of Rascal Flatts And Aka Pygmy Culture It is evident that fathers across all cultures are different along with their way of parenting their offspring s, but ages also change or stay the way we parent our offspring s and the kind of care we offer them. The care that Rascal Flatts is providing his daughter is very similar to the one of Aka Pygmy culture. He says I hope you never look back, but you never forget, All the ones who love you, in the place you live which shows traits of the hunter and gather community by the long term kinship. Ties of kinship are vitally important in all hunting and gathering groups and social interaction usually organized around kinship roles which include nuclear and extended in this case Rascal Flatts daughter is considered nuclear. • 3. Cost Of Art Education Pablo Picasso once said Every child is an artist. The problem is how to remain an artist once he grows up. Think about this, when a child is young they are given crayons and paper to occupy their time; mothers sing to their babies or play them classical music. From a young age we are taught to create, and we really are all artists. We create until creation is deemed nonessential, and the art projects we work into our everyday routine are demoted to electives. Funds for Education have been cut in over 80% of U.S. schools in the last 10 years, and the first programs to leave are often art education. Harvard President Drew Faust recently wrote. The same classes we as a nation are deeming unnecessary are mandatory in countries that rank consistently ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... School System needs to stop defunding art programs because art is important in our history. Without art, we would have less interpretation of our history. In any history class we study the artists of each time period and how they interpreted their times. Most of what artists do is tell stories, they help us make sense of the world. It can connect us to the past, present and the future. Throughout history our greatest minds have often merged discovery and art, the geniuses we learn about in history aren t only math matachins or scientists, but artists on top of that. Einstein stressed the importance of having a creative mind, once saying I m enough of an artist to draw freely from my imagination, which I think is more important than knowledge. Knowledge is limited. Imagination encircles the world. Without art we would have a much more narrow view of our past, and future generations will have a narrow view of our current events. Sure, you could say that we still have a history without art; but without photos, paintings, and sculptures would we really fully grasp our past? By cutting our generation off from art education we are cutting off future generations from learning too. Without artists to document our history, our great grandchildren will be without that connection to what s going on today. While art connects us to the past, and the world s history, it connects us to so much ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. John Nash Schizophrenia John Nash is a renowned mathematician most recognized for his theory of equilibrium and life struggle with schizophrenia. A Nobel Prize laureate and quite the living legend, John Nash completed his graduate studies in mathematics at Princeton University ( People and Events: John Nash (1928 ), 1999). He later worked on the faculty at MIT before returning to Princeton as a Professor/researcher ( Big Ideas. Big Thinkers. John Nash, 2003). Though Hollywood is often responsible for depicting mental affliction and above par intellect as intrinsically congruous (common examples include Silence of the Lambs and Mr. Brooks), this is not the norm. John Nash is considered an anomaly when analyzing schizophrenia; most clients with schizophrenia are of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Most patients who decide to stop taking their pills or abandon their treatment plan do not usually get better. However, it important to note that when Nash initially stopped his treatment plan, he functioned relatively poorly for many years ( Leo Torrey, 2002). In the 1980s, Nash started to improve and became more engaged with the world around him ( People and Events: John Nash (1928 ), 1999). He even received the Nobel Prize in economics in 1994, at the very ripe age of 66 ( People and Events: John Nash (1928 ), 1999)! Nash is now exploring mathematics at an office in Princeton and has remarried his wife ( People and Events: John Nash (1928 ), 1999). It is unclear how he improved yet it is important to shy away from the idea of random miracle recoveries. Old age tends to bring on a remission of symptoms. Dr. Nash has not received a miracle cure but rather has had a partial remission of his symptoms related to his advancing age (Leo Torrey, 2002). Furthermore, John Nash has learned to almost actively reject his hallucinations. He is quoted in A Straight Look at Schizophrenia, as saying, if one makes an effort to ërationalize one s thinking then one can simply recognize and reject the irrational hypotheses of delusional thinking (Keefe, 2002). It appears that his illness has left him to cope in a way that his genius mind can handle. He understands his disorder and conceptualizes the information ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Arguments Against Utilitarianism Utilitarianism: For and Against Utilitarianism is a moral theory that is centered around the concept of happiness. Although there are many varieties of the theory, utilitarianism is generally thought to be the view that the morally right action is the action that produces the most good. Happiness is considered to be an act that people seek, and an ultimate goal for human beings. Classical utilitarianism focuses on the concept of happiness and actions, as well as their consequences that impact others, not just an individual. English philosophers Jeremy Bentham and John Stuart Mill have two different approaches to utilitarianism. I will explain the development of utilitarianism from both Jeremy Bentham and John Stuart Mill, discuss two objections ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In the most general sense, I believe in the idea that actions are right if they are useful or beneficial for the majority. The strengths of utilitarianism are ones that make sense to me. The two major strengths of utilitarianism, as an ethical theory, stand out to me. The first strength being that it provides an answer for every ethical situation a person could be placed in. In every situation, it is important to always work to promote the most good in a situation. The second strength being that it has a moral core that appears to coincide with ethical intuition in most people. Humans work to promote the good for humanity and also work to alleviate suffering. Utilitarianism shows that ethics is not so much about following rules as acting in a manner that coincides with the values that one finds important in ethical action. Although I value the importance of those listed above, I also understand the criticisms of utilitarianism. I think that utilitarianism, though appealing because it ensures the greatest amount of happiness for the most people, is not completely ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The attribute though, that separates this university from all others, is the history behind it. The rich religious history gives every part of the campus meaning, not found at many other universities in America. • 12. The On The Foreclosure Crisis The last five years have been a rollercoaster for the average American homeowner. I personally know many people who were unable to keep their homes. Most of the reasons were extenuating loss of job, decline in business, death of family ultimately resulting in no longer being able to afford the mortgage. Unfortunately there were some very irresponsible decisions that contributed to the foreclosure of homes, for example, financing huge second and third mortgages to pay for frivolous activities and items. With the last half decade of hard lessons learned for previous home owners many are looking to venture into the market again with some more creative financing options. Many sellers are turning to options such as rent to own or seller carrying the contract with a down payment as well as buyers borrowing against existing retirement and life insurance accounts. The rent to own option is one that very desirable for potential home buyers as well as sellers. They are able to live in the home that they desire to own and all rent payments that are made are put towards to the future mortgage similar to a buying a car. The future buyers pay a certain amount each month to live in the house, and at the end of a set period generally within three years they have the option to buy the house. Each month of rent they pay is income for the seller, while a portion of it goes toward a down payment to eventually purchase the home. Initially, volunteering to help the poor or third world countries came to mind. First, while I am a caring person, I did not think to help those in poverty before in the community because I myself grew up in a low income family surviving off food stamps or welfare, so I thought if I am capable of coming out on top, then others are as well. However, I did not think of the support I got along the way. I did not think of how not everyone gets accepted for food stamps, or that if a family does that the amount is not reasonable since I have seen families only receive sixteen dollars who need far more than that. Second, when it comes to third world countries the saying goes, Out of sight, out of mind. I did not want to live life thinking this way anymore, so it was time to make a change. To put it differently, I reflected upon Karen Armstrong s negative version of the Golden Rule mentioned in the sixth step, Action, Do not do to others what you would not like them to do to you (Armstrong ). In like manner, I would not want to be cast to the side in my time of need, neither should I do that to others. • 17. Rhetorical Analysis Of Gregory Crewdson s Natural Wonder Gregory Crewdson s untitled photograph from the series Natural Wonder presents an eerie close up of a scene taking place in the woods. The attention of the audience is brought to a small fox who lies on its back, dead. Surrounding the fox are an abundance of overgrown grape vines. Perched atop the fox are three birds who stare questioningly at the site around them. Behind the copious amount of leaves and grapes is a somewhat cheerful looking, white background containing buildings and smoke, a noticeable difference from the forest scene which is more apparent to the audience. Through his placement of objects, use of color, and change of scenery, Crewdson expresses the negative effects of industrialization on wildlife. Crewdson uses placement of objects by making the dead fox the central theme of this photograph to delve into the feelings of the audience. Because foxes are animals with great knowledge of the woods, it would be unlikely for them to suddenly die while in their natural habitat. This leads the audience to wonder what might have happened to cause the fox s death which can be symbolized by the birds above the fox who seem to be wondering the same thing. Although birds symbolize freedom, they are staying behind to witness the destruction of the land around them. Crewdson also places the leaves and overgrown grapevines of the photograph in an unorderly way. This shows that the forest is not being taken care of causing the loss of this fox. Although the term Value at risk has not been used till the1990s, the origins of its measure lie further back in time. The arithmetic behind the VaR were developed by Harry Markowitz (1952) in his studies of effects of asset risk, return, correlation, and diversification on probable investment portfolio returns which contributed to the modern portfolio theory. In fact, the trigger of the use of VaR came from the crisis that tormented the financial market and the regulatory responses to these crises. After the great depression of 1929, the Securities Exchange Act established in 1934 the Security Exchange Commission (SEC), a federal government agency in charge of regulating stocks and options exchanges. Since the SEC initially required banks to keep their borrowing below 2000% of their equity capital, Banks developed risk measures and control devices to ensure that they meet the capital requirements. In the 1970, the introduction of financial derivatives markets and floating rate exchanges have significantly increased the volatility, which is the risk, in the financial markets. The latter was confirmed by the failure in 1995 of Barings, the British investment bank, by the unauthorized trading in Nikkei (Japan s stock market) financial derivatives (futures and options) by Nick Leeson, a young trader in Singapore. • 23. The Body Found By Sid Bennett Many kids grow up watching Disney movies, and young girls who idolize Ariel from The Little Mermaid hope that mermaids might be real. In the mockumentary Mermaids: The Body Found, directed by Sid Bennett, the idea of mermaids is explored when the actors proclaim that mermaids were found among beached whales due to Navy Sonar tests (IMDB par 2). Bennett mixes fact with fiction in an attempt to get people to relate to the beached whales. He makes a mockumentary that is believable to many due to how closely it resembles a real documentary, complete with actors posing as credible scientists. Despite having no evidence, people want to believe that myths such as mermaids do exist. Bennett s purpose of the film is to convince people to care about how the Sonar tests affect whales by trying to make it seem as if mermaids are going through the same thing. However, he is unsuccessful because he fails to make a connection with the audience, does not have enough credible information on mermaids, and does not focus enough on the whales themselves. During the mockumentary, an anecdote is told about a mermaid who sacrifices himself to Megladon, a huge, prehistoric shark, for his family so they can get away and stay safe (Mermaids n.p.). One belief, which was from Galileo, resolved that any two things that fall together, fall at the same time, even if they are as heavy as an elephant. Another belief was from Rene Descartes. It stated that a ball traveling, which is uninterrupted, will keep going in a straight line. Beliefs before Newton s Laws were exceedingly different than what they are now. Newton s Laws of Motion changed beliefs about force and motion drastically forever. The first law of motion states that an object at rest stays at rest (Newton/Slideshow). I m going to dig deeper into his background and answer key questions like what is the relationship between faith and knowledge? Is faith in god justified? Why? How? In matters of faith and relationship with God, is the question of the existence of God even relevant? Why or Why not? I am going to answers these key questions in the upcoming paragraphs. Pascal is famous, among other things for his wager argument. It was a groundbreaking theory at that time. It s basically a risk vs ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I will continue to defend Pascal s argue that if you look at the bigger picture, it s better to believe in God than it is not to believe. Pascal wanted us to make a choice. He was a mathematician and physicist. He developed the rules for probability, which we still use today. Which makes a lot of sense because Pascal basically paved the way for gambling. We will answer an important question, What is the relationship between faith and knowledge? Knowledge is both objective and subjective. Knowledge is attained through reason, faith is belief based without evidence, something that cannot be seen. Everything we know is a matter of perception. Science and history is a great example of knowledge and the bible is an example of faith. It makes me think back to one of our earlier classes that we were talking about Locke s argument that we are born with a blank sheet of paper ideas and knowledge come to us through our experiences and senses. Descartes on the other hand believed that we are born with ideas/knowledge and you use experience to remember them. My view is that the relationship between faith and knowledge is that you should have faith only in knowledge, which you could then attain enlightenment through that because knowledge is wisdom. The older you get, the more wisdom you received. Pascal goes on to mention on page 357, Who then will ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Per a quote from Lieutenant Gov. Mary Fallin in Oklahoma: It s hard at times to find people that will take the high road, and that s why we see so many of the scandals we ve seen, like WorldCom and Enron, said Fallin. It s not what happens to you that determines where you are in life, but its how you respond to what happens to you. (Smith, 2005, 7) What a valuable employee, Sue definitely took the high road and handled that dilemma with integrity. Each person has many reasons for being ethical. Some reasons can be: inner beliefs, habits, virtue because it is its own reward, personal advantages, it s good business, there is approval, being an ethical person can lead to self esteem, the admiration of loved ones and the respect of peers. There is also religion because it is believed that good behavior can please or help serve a deity. Ethical actions can fit in with upbringing or training. Ethics starts with the individual employee choosing the right or wrong decision. The second ethical dilemma that our group provided was one that dealt with sexual harassment. The poem that I have chosen to analyse is Drifters by Bruce Dawe. Today I will be discussing how the poem relates to belonging, two important figurative devices within the poem and an extrapolation of the taught poem migrant hostel which also explores the idea of belonging. Firstly, how the poem relates to belonging. The poem Drifters represents belonging by the family not being able to settle as they keep on moving houses and communities. Belonging to a place is linked to belonging in a family. Everyone in this family is affected by the father s decision to relocate.
