Building A Target Conformant And Flexible Enterprise...
Introduction: In order to build a target conformant and flexible Enterprise Architecture, and to put it in
a perspective, it is very important to analyse and visualize various academic and industrial frameworks
and comprehend and define its concepts. Various definitions describe different architectural processes,
systems, technologies, components and their relationships (Taleb et al, 2012a).The following section
discusses three industrial and three academic frameworks which provide different viewpoints of
Enterprise Architecture.

The importance of culture and organizational structure and the integration between them is discussed
in depth as well, in order to state the factors that need to be focused on for design of an enterprise.
Bernard has further elaborated on various organization models and scrutinized them to justify the
distinction between organization and enterprise. Associated risks and process of estimating the cost
and benefits are eventually explored, covering several important aspects of EA.
Evaluation
Enterprise Architecture is defined as a coherent whole of principles, methods, and models that are
used in the design and realization of an enterprise s organizational structure, business processes,
information systems, and infrastructure (Lankhorst et al, 2012). Over time, EA has become an integral
part of organization s strategy rather than being a mere guideline, (Vaidyanathan, 2005) motivating
organizations to design business aligned enterprise systems. The author s representation of EA as a
strategy, business and technology driven process and its meta disciplinary role thus seems accurately
described. Decisions taken are often incomplete without an adequate decision supporting frameworks
(Narman, 2012). Several organizations have adopted EA frameworks in order to maintain links with
other systems and ultimately create integrated systems, similar to building blocks that fit together
(Shah and Kourdi, 2007). The author s knowledge

The State Of The Electoral College
Tyranny naturally arises out of democracy. These words from the Greek philosopher Plato summarize
the most fundamental concern of the delegates to the Constitutional Convention when they considered
what the best way to conduct presidential elections would be. While, in concept, democracy sounds
like the fairest form of government, in practice, it is less than ideal. Fear of tyranny of the majority
prompted discussion over how the president should be elected. The Founders chose the Electoral
College which incorporates democracy, federalism, and republicanism for presidential selection,
because it provided for the best balance of power. The Electoral College was the product of no small
amount of debate during the Constitutional ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
While he agreed that the sense of the people should operate in the choice of the [president], he made
clear the importance of afford[ing] as little opportunity as possible to tumult and disorder. This would
require the will of the people to be tempered by an intermediate body of electors. Not only would this
be a compromise between the competing ideas in the Constitutional Convention, it would prevent any
one group from having undue discretion when it came to electing the most powerful person in
government. Of these competing ideas, two are prominently reflected in the Electoral College. The
first is democracy, an idea largely advanced by Alexis de Tocqueville in Democracy in America.
Democracy, loosely defined as the direct representation of people in government, seems the most
logical way to conduct an election. The second is federalism. Understanding how this could become
problematic, the founders decided to include states in the election process. According to Federalist 68,
this would allow the people of each State [to] choose a number of persons as electors...who shall
assemble...and vote for some fit person as President. This balance of individual and state discretion
would soon be codified in Article 2, Section 1 of the Constitution.
The Electoral College has remained steadfast in our ever changing world. What

Essay On Nash Argues That Civilization Created Wilderness
1. How is wilderness an idea? How could it have a history?
The idea of wilderness is a human based construct. It is highly subjective, scalable, and represents
different things to different people. Wilderness can be defined many ways, from a widely uncultivated
land, to a deeply personal experience, and anywhere in between. It depends entirely on the historical
context assigned to it by humans. To Eastern cultures, wilderness was seen as a connection between
oneself and the universe. To Western cultures, wilderness was a dangerous, uncivilized place.
Wilderness can be considered as having a history because it is history. The wilderness existed long
before the early days of humanity (in fact, the wilderness is where scientists often go when looking for
answers about various aspects of the Earth s history), but it was humanity who associated various
philosophies to the wilderness. If wilderness is a place untouched by humans, then the places touched
by humans, referred to as civilization in this assignment, must be intricately intertwined with
wilderness one cannot exist without the other.

There was no concept of wilderness before humans. Humans began in the wild. However, due to
advancements in agriculture and domestication, man was set apart from nature for the first time. This
separation between man and nature grew, to where humans began to perceive certain aspects of nature
as a dark, unknown entity of wildness , which was full of savage creatures and other unknown
dangers. These fears instigated a feeling of superiority based on a need for dominance over the
wilderness. Man lived in, and with, nature until this separation, when the concept of wilderness began.
Hence, the assertion, civilization created

Homelessness Effect
When homeless people are faced with these factors their they will face even worse situations. In
addition, the causes and effects of homelessness are often interchangeable. This part will explain how
these factors bring the effect on individual, community and society. Homelessness damages people s
possibility and capability of motivation and it can bring emotional health problems such as depression,
bipolar disorder and schizophrenia. A study reveals that 20 25% of homeless people, compared with
6% of the non homeless, have severe mental illness. (National Coalition,2009). This situation causes
even more harm for women as the researchers found homeless women are more likely to need support
for mental health problems than men. (St Mungo s ,2016). This situation can lead more homeless
people to be alcoholics and have a high dependency on drugs. Accounting for just over a third of all
homelessness deaths is an abuse of drugs and alcohol. (Homelessness: ... Show more content on

Communities are affected by homeless people in various ways. Homelessness can often have a
negative impact on local communities as homeless people have to find some places to live and sleep,
places where they will stay can be benches outside, behind buildings, on the street and the parks.
Therefore, the brand value or image of the community can be reduced by homelessness on the street.
Unfortunately, tourists or non homeless people can feel uncomfortable or in danger when they walk by
them. In addition, Public public facilities can be abused or overused by people in this situation.
Regardless of age and other circumstances of homelessness it is obvious that homelessness has a huge
impact on the development of society. The society has to pick up the cost for homeless individuals to
provide basic services or care services for them such as treatment of illness, mental counseling,
providing accommodation and food to eat (Impact

The Nature of Online Communities Essay
The Nature of Online Communities
What brings people together on the internet? Is it the desire to find a friend and a community or is it
the other extreme of finding someone to argue with and release all the anger that has built up inside?
Do people not like who they are in real life and find the internet as a place to have a new identity, the
person that they have always wanted to be? Or, is it what Rheingold states in his article The Virtual

The Effects Of Cancer Paved The Road For My Life
Research Experience I was forced to leave my childhood an a early age. My mother was diagnosed
with cervical cancer when I was eight years old. This moment I became the parent to my mother to
nurse my mother back to health following her surgery and radiation treatments. My mother s life was
spared thanks to advancing medical treatments. Intimately witnessing the impact of cancer paved the
road for my passion in biomedical research. Ten years later, I began my journey at Mills College,
where I obtained a B.A in Biochemistry and Molecular Cell Biology. While at Mills College, I was
confronted with another reality when I learned my father was diagnosed with testicular cancer. After
immediate surgery and chemotherapy, his cancer was eliminated. Taking part in connecting science
with medicine for medical advancements aimed to benefit human health became my focus and
obtaining experience in the biomedical research became imperative. Metabolic Integration in
Salmonella enterica: My first research experience began with a summer internship at the Bacteriology
department in the University of Wisconsin, Madison investigating the compensatory mechanisms
involved in metabolic integration. Specifically, the overarching goal was to identify the changes and
alternative pathways required to sustain life of Salmonella enterica strain containing a thiamine, B1,

The Liberal Party won the 1906 election by a landslide victory and accomplished much to improve the
living and working conditions within England. Shortly after the First World War had passed the
Liberal Party s support declined greatly, but why? Dangerfield believed that the state of the Liberal
Party was that they were doomed to fail prior to the outbreak of war in 1914. Despite the Liberal Party

An Analysis Of Frankenstein And The Modern Prometheus By...
An analysis of Frankenstein; or, the modern Prometheus by Mary Shelly
The title of the book, Frankenstein; or, the modern Prometheus is a reference to the story about
Prometheus in Greek mythology. Prometheus was a titan who sided with the other titans to join the
Greek gods in their war against the titans. Since I have not read that story, I do not know much else
about what happened but I assume that Shelly´s novel will be somewhat similar in the sense that
someone will side with his friends and join the enemy. The title itself is fairly long. That is probably
the reason that it is more known as just Frankenstein. The whole title is certainly interesting. The book
is so famous that everyone knows about it and I would probably have read it eventually anyway just
because of that. But the extended title made it even more interesting. Greek mythology is usually
pretty interesting and that title implies that Mary Shelly wrote her own version of the story. ... Show

the only ones becoming tied up with these goals, ladies additionally fall into these issues. Men are not
by any means the only ones who have received this unsafe state of mind towards connections,

Youth Violence Research Paper
Back in the old days, violence was a seldom occurrence. As years passed, however, it became more
and more common. In today s time, violence is just a part of everyday life and is happening among all
age groups of people. Shockingly, the biggest spike in violence has happened among teenagers and
young children. While there are many factors associated with this increase in youth violence, one of
the biggest key components is that cartoons, such as Tom and Jerry, Scooby Doo, and Teenage Mutant
Ninja Turtles, contain a lot more violence than they used to.
Tom and Jerry is a very well known cartoon that has been around for a long time. Although most
people probably see nothing wrong with the show, it is actually filled with all sorts of violence. In
every episode of Tom and Jerry, Tom, the cat, tries to capture and eat Jerry, the mouse. As if that is not
bad enough, the whole time that Tom is trying to get Jerry they are constantly beating and hitting each
other. There are not many moments in any of the episodes where Tom and Jerry are not attempting to
kill each other. An example of this is shown in one show where Tom has a gun and is shooting at Jerry

can go and do whatever they want, because the people in the cartoons they watch are doing it. In one
particular show of Scooby Doo the group is trying to figure out who has been haunting a house. To
figure out who it is, they set a booby trap to apprehend the person, and then they tie them to a chair so
they can not escape. This is just one way that Scooby Doo subconsciously teaches children that it is

To Kill A Mockingbird Social Roles
The criticism brought on by social roles negatively impacts one s views on themselves and their
actions. Maycomb s strict social roles have lowered somes self esteem and has trapped people in a
certain personality or financial stance. These social roles can get in a person s head and change their
views and actions in result. An example of this is shown at the school where Scout explains to Miss
Caroline about the Ewells, He s one of the Ewell s...They come the first day every year and then they
leave... You re supposed to mark em absent the rest of the year (27). The Ewells have always left the
first day of school because that s who they are and who they will always be, but how are the children
supposed to better themselves if this social role has been placed on them since birth. This normal
behavior of the Ewells restricts the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
When a child is stereotyped as trash just because of their families wealth, it obviously takes a toll on
them mentally and physically. Dolphus Raymond is often looked at as one who does not care about
social roles and goes against them, but his actions are very much affected by them. This is his
response to when Scout asks him why he drinks cola out of that sack, It helps folks latch onto a
reason, when I come to town, which is seldom, if I weave a little and drink out of this sack, folks can
say Dolphus Raymond s in clutches of whiskey that s why he won t change his ways, he can t help
himself... (182). Social roles have made him hide away from the criticism. It also makes him pretend
he is a drunk so he can escape cruelty because he is too afraid to tempt the strict norms of Maycomb.
The criticism these characters have been through can affect their actions and confidence. Each
character, Burris Ewell, Walter Cunningham and Dolphus Raymond, are all in different situations but
all have had a negative experience with social roles. Yet, an individual s experience with social roles
can be a little different than a whole

The Religion And Its Origins
This chapter was exactly like Vavova s chapter as it was defending morals from debunkers. The author
merely formed a defense for keeping his religious beliefs.
The author had four parts of his argument. He introduces the arguments and claims that he can defend
religion. In the introduction, the author puts out a hypothetical situation where a person, Fred, believes
in evolution and God. Fred can see that evolution does not include whether not God is involved. The
author claims that this is similar to a debunking argument, but he can defend a religious belief. The
author then goes over the structure of his argument and requests patience from the reader on the
matter.
In the second part of his argument, the author explains religion and its origins. According to
psychologists, folk theories are universal processes of human thought and we have found a lot of
them. However the fact that we have folk theories does not explain why we have them. Debunking
does not argue about whether cognitive evolution is true, it argues around the implications if it were
true. Belief forming processes must be truth tracking. However, does that meant that evolution forces
us into skepticism? The author doesn t believe so, because of the possibility of a Milvian Bridge.
Natural selection would help if it selected for the truth. Targets of beliefs should be causes of beliefs,
making them remote and proximate. This is his detailed account of a Milvian Bridge. The author then
goes on to define reason

Wayne Williams Essay
Wayne Williams was charged with murdering two people in Atlanta, Georgia. Shockingly enough, he
was also linked to the killing of ten other boys. The way the evidence effected this trial is what makes
the case so well known. There were 28 different types of fibers linking Williams to the murder
victims. That can be an overwhelming amount of evidence. This case happened in the 1980s and the
evidence presented in the case was crucial to proving Williams guilt. While investigations were going
on to determine how victims died, there was a discovery of fibers on the victims bodies. The goal of
the investigator was to determine if any fibers in Wayne Williams home or person matched those

There were 28 fiber types linked to 19 items from the house, bedroom and vehicles of Wayne
Williams. The prosecution responded that there were so many fiber matches between the Williams
household and the victims that it was impossible for the victims not to have been in Williams home
and cars. So the big question: were the fibers so common that they could have been picked up
anywhere, or did they link Williams to the murder? The problem with fiber evidence is that fibers are
not unique. They are not like fingerprints. They are not considered solid evidence, because there are a
lot of what ifs? The fibers linked this case in the first place, but who s to say they make Williams the
murderer. Personally, I think there is too much play room with fibers. Apparently the matching fibers
were taken only from victims. Only one individual red cotton fiber was found at the Williams home.
Could this be found in somewhere else, also? I think so. Not one fiber from any victim was found
anywhere near the carpet in the Williams house. After studying this case, I do think that Wayne
Williams committed the murders, but I do not think that the fiber evidence is reliable. Unfortunately,
the fibers could be found elsewhere so how does that pin point Williams as the

Nosocomial infections refers to infections acquired during hospitalization, with symptoms usually
occurring within forty eight hours after admission. The origin of nosocomial infections can be
attributed to the following: Bacterial flora already present in the patient; Microorganisms from the
environment through transmission from: carriers colonized at admission, admitted to wards without
undergoing surveillance, isolation or eradication of the germ(s); patients who have developed the

The increase in infection related health activity is the result of a gradual increase in specific risk
factors such as antibiotic pressure and the greater complexity of patients conditions. Despite their
strong impact, both socially and economically, the surveillance systems and programs currently
deployed for the prevention of nosocomial infections are quite dishomogeneous and, in many
situations, do not exist at all. There are two main discriminating factors in this critical situation. The
first relates to the chronic lack of funds for a serious policy of prevention, particularly in terms of an
effective screening process. The second concerns the lack of accurate knowledge and widespread
awareness on the part of health care operators who are apparently unable to see the problem, in its

In this experiment, Eisenberger, Master, Inagaki, Taylor, Shirinyan, Lieberman, and Naliboff further
research the hypothesis that attachment figures may act as safety signal to an individual during a
threatening experience observing changes in neural mechanism to support this theory, specifically the
ventromedial prefrontal cortex, the neural region involved in signalling safety and reducing stress and
threat. The researchers inflicted painful stimuli upon female participants who were involved in a long
term romantic relationships and observed activity in the participants respective ventromedial
prefrontal cortex as the participants were shown control images and images of their loved ones. The
results to this experiment were that the participants themselves reported less pain while viewing
partner pictures, reduction in pain related neural activity and increased activity in the ventromedial

How Art Can Be Considered Many Things
Art can be considered many things. It can be considered a sculpture, a painting, a song, a movie, but it
could also be considered a carefully thought out plan.
Art lives through time, and among the criteria of what constitutes the best in Art is that it refuses to be
forgotten. Da Vinci s Mona Lisa , Van Gogh s Starry Night , or even Campbell s Soup Cans by Warhol
have not, as of yet, been forgotten. Much like memorials, which are made with the intention of living
through time by depicting a singular, particular moment of history. Art aims to be remembered, not
forgotten. But memorials, unlike art, tend to commemorate horrific events, tragedies, and losses
almost exclusively. Consider the USS Arizona Memorial, the Lincoln Memorial, ... Show more

to write about. But, he writes, that novelist Don DeLillo considered the acts of violence as something
grander and greater than the mere novel (Appleyard 1). Appleyard also includes a quote from artist
Damien Hirst, who had gotten into trouble for saying something similar . Hirst had said, [t]he thing
about 9/11 is that it s kind of an artwork in its own right. It was wicked, but it was devised in this way
for this kind of impact. It was devised visually... You ve got to hand it to them [the terrorists] on some

Inherit the Wind by Jerome Lawrence and Robert E. Lee
One of the most controversial plays of its time is hands down, Inherit the Wind. The main debate
throughout the play is the debate between science and religion. A bit of a background for those that are
naive to the topic in this time period to follow. Small towns such as Hillsboro were very prone to
streamlined views in every possible topic of extremities such as religion to minor topics relative to
eateries, gossip, and small town politics. Lawrence and Lee do an exceptional job representing and
setting the scene of this town by painting the history of the play s main characters. They make a strong
point about the lack of strayed opinion as everyone is primarily religious in views and science is
taught according to the bible. In a sense it is wrong for one to have a mind or speak about views that
clash with what has been widely accepted in Hillsboro. Drummond is a notorious criminal defense
lawyer who openly voices his opinions about one s ability to think and have a valid opinion about racy
topics; anything that comes to mind. He is deemed atheist and uses his wit and knowledge of the
world to humiliate his nemesis (Brady). Drummond stems his argument from the townspeople s
tunneled vision of religion. He dissects the bible in its entirety and exposes its truths to all. The

The Theory Of Leadership And Management
Introduction
In the past few years there has been a noticeable increase our countries appetite for training, self help,
and literature on the subject of leadership. Books and programs taken from the theories and practices
of coaches, athletes, chief executives, and even Charles Shultz s animated character, Snoopy are
abundant in every bookstore and coffee shop in America. While leadership is not a new concept, it is
certainly being promoted as an essential factor in our business cultures and personal lives. This
analysis of leadership takes a look at some of the classical models and theories and compares them to
contemporary approaches.

What about public opinion? As quoted in Barnard (1996) from the Encyclopedia of the Social
Sciences, Whether authority is of personal or institutional origin it is created and maintained by public
opinion, which in turn is conditioned by sentiment, affection, reverence, or fatalism . The implications
of authority to leadership are just as critical as motivation and decision making. In general terms,
without public support, leaders.
Contemporary Approaches
There are four contemporary approaches discussed here in our Unit 2 reading sociotechnical systems
theory, quantitative management, organizational behavior, and systems theory. They are to help an
individual are group organization. All of these approaches should be taken into consideration when
striving to compete in competitive business environment.
I think organization behavior is the most important because the approach is the systematic study of
knowledge about how people as individuals and as groups act within organizations. The dynamics of
group behavior and of the formation and suitability of any group need to be understood and
implemented well, in order to achieve a harmonious working environment. Organization behavior is a
contemporary approach that also studies and identifies management activities that promote employee
effectiveness by examining the complex and dynamic nature of individual, group and organization
processes.

Essay on Proper Use of Police Discretion
Proper use of discretion is probably the most important measure of a police officer or department.
Rich Kinsey (retired police detective)
Police officers are faced each day with a vast array of situations with which they must deal. No two
situations they encounter are ever the same, even when examines a large number of situations over an
extended period of time. The officers are usually in the position of having to make decisions on how
to handle a specific matter alone, or with little additional advice and without immediate supervision.
This is the heart of police discretion. As we shall find, the exercise of discretion by police has benefits

Although the Chief of police is not in the field, he/she will still have to use discretion in making very
important decisions that will affect the community and the police department.
The Chief of police may use discretion in a criminal investigation by deciding that some information
should not be shared with the public. In addition, the Chief of police might even give a decision on
which information to be shared to the public. The duty of the Chief of police is to protect the public

the most important duties of the Chief of Police is to re assure the public of their safety and so, he

Therefore, while trying to keep the public safe and trying to inform them of the investigations about

Exploring The Role Of Hades In Greek Mythology
In Greek mythology, Hades was regarded as the oldest son of Cronus and Rhea, although the last son
regurgitated by his father. He and his brothers Zeus and Poseidon defeated their father s generation of
gods, the Titans, and claimed rulership over the cosmos. Hades received the underworld, Zeus the sky,
and Poseidon the sea, with the solid earth long the province of Gaia available to all three concurrently.
Hades was often portrayed with his three headed guard dog Cerberus and, in later mythological
authors, associated with the Helm of Darkness and the bident. Many do not know but Hades is not
only the god of the Underworld but the dead and riches.
In Greek mythology, Hades the god of the underworld, was a son of the Titans Cronus and Rhea. He
had three sisters, Demeter, Hestia, and Hera, as well as two brothers, Zeus, the youngest of the three,
and Poseidon. Upon reaching adulthood, Zeus managed to force his father to disgorge his siblings.
After their release, the six younger gods, along with allies they managed to gather, challenged the
elder gods for power in the Titanomachy, a divine war. The war lasted for ten years and ended with the
victory of the younger gods. Following their victory, according to a single famous passage in the Iliad
(xv.187 93), Hades and his two brothers, Poseidon and Zeus, drew lots for realms to rule. Zeus
received the sky, Poseidon received the seas, and Hades received the underworld, the unseen realm to
which the souls of the dead go upon leaving the world as well as any and all things beneath the earth.

Margaret Atwood for incorporating questions a reader has while reading the novel and somehow

the reader to question the story s reliability, Atwood does exactly that. Offred often brings up that what

Perhaps Margaret Atwood wanted to transfer this message to her readers or maybe she just wanted to
allow the reader to easily follow this devastating tale. In any case, this technique worked well for me
throughout the span of the novel.

Cloud Computing And Google App Engine Development
Cloud Computing and Google App Engine development
About cloud computing:
Cloud computing is a term coined for a recent trend towards service oriented cluster
computing/processing based on certain SLA and other benefits. It provides simplified and automated
process for configuring, deployment, maintenance and easy process to manage the resources. The
offering of different clouds (Azure, google, AWS etc.) may differ, but what s common among them is
Virtualization and performance isolation for per user/application.
Cloud computing can broadly be classified into 3 broad categories:
Software as a service SaaS describes a system in which high level functionality software as an on
demand is hosted by a cloud and shared to end client using thin client application via internet. The
main feature of SaaS systems is that the API offered to the cloud client is for a complete software
service. The SaaS Cloud provider may charge end user based on number of users or number of
requests hit on hosted API. Example Sales Force.
Platform as a service PaaS refers to the availability of scalable services through an interface from
which restricted network accessible, applications written in high level languages (Java,.net, python
etc.) can be created. Two examples of PaaS systems are Google App Engine (GAE) and Microsoft
Azure.
Infrastructure as a Service IaaS describes a services for provisioning virtualized operating system

the appropriate diagnosis and treatment of ADHD continue to exist (The Pharmacological and Non

Organizational Behavior ( Ob )
Organizational behavior (OB) is the study of how people interact within groups and can be used to
achieve a covenant relationship within organizations similar to the relationship that God has with His
people. Personalities have a significant role in OB and personality tests create value by allowing
organizations to determine ahead of time where potential conflict may arise between employees. The
Jung Typology Test classifies people into one of the sixteen personality types determined by Isabel
Briggs Myers and one of the four temperaments defined by David Keirsey. This discussion examines
the effect of my ISTJ personality type and SJ temperament on myself and those around me on a
personal and professional level. The analysis covers the strengths, weaknesses, and sources of conflict
associated with each individual aspect of the ISTJ personality introverted, sensing, thinking, and

lessons I have learned regarding the use of OB in workplace improvement efforts, as well as specific

King Henry As A Good King In William Shakespeare s Henry V
What does it mean to be a king as compared to a man? William Shakespeare s work Henry V attempts
to answer this question with a title character who is both. King Henry s morality, defined by his deeply
complex character, rests precariously on the title he is defined by: should he be judged solely as a king
or also as a man? The label makes a difference. Through his actions and leadership during the play,
Henry proves himself to be a good king, one worthy of respect and admiration. However, at the same
time, the same actions do not always reveal a particularly good or virtuous man. Highlighting the
disparity between the two roles, Shakespeare intended for King Henry to be admired and respected as
a good king but not necessarily as a good man.
To understand this distinction, one must first recognize that the qualities that make up a good king
often diverge from those attributed to a good man. For example, to be considered a good man, one
might try to be forgiving and tolerant; however, to be a good king, one often has to be exactly the
opposite. Why does this make sense? It is not because a king is naturally unforgiving or refuses to take
the high road; instead, he has a higher purpose than to be kind to those immediately around him. To be
a good king, one cannot be an emotional creature, but instead be a calculating one. He should put the
needs of his kingdom above all other things, including his own desires or whims. A good king
recognizes that he must serve, protect, and

These words from the Greek philosopher Plato summarize the most fundamental concern of the delegates to the Constitutional Convention when they considered what the best way to conduct presidential elections would be. Fear of tyranny of the majority prompted discussion over how the president should be elected. This would require the will of the people to be tempered by an intermediate body of electors. Not only would this be a compromise between the competing ideas in the Constitutional Convention, it would prevent any one group from having undue discretion when it came to electing the most powerful person in government. Of these competing ideas, two are prominently reflected in the Electoral College. The first is democracy, an idea largely advanced by Alexis de Tocqueville in Democracy in America. Democracy, loosely defined as the direct representation of people in government, seems the most logical way to conduct an election. The second is federalism. Understanding how this could become problematic, the founders decided to include states in the election process. According to Federalist 68, this would allow the people of each State [to] choose a number of persons as electors...who shall assemble...and vote for some fit person as President. This balance of individual and state discretion would soon be codified in Article 2, Section 1 of the Constitution. The Electoral College has remained steadfast in our ever changing world. What ... Essay On NashArgues That Civilization Created Wilderness 1. How is wilderness an idea? How could it have a history? The idea of wilderness is a human based construct. It is highly subjective, scalable, and represents different things to different people. Wilderness can be defined many ways, from a widely uncultivated land, to a deeply personal experience, and anywhere in between. It depends entirely on the historical context assigned to it by humans. To Eastern cultures, wilderness was seen as a connection between oneself and the universe. To Western cultures, wilderness was a dangerous, uncivilized place. Wilderness can be considered as having a history because it is history. The wilderness existed long before the early days of humanity (in fact, the wilderness is where scientists often go when looking for answers about various aspects of the Earth s history), but it was humanity who associated various philosophies to the wilderness. If wilderness is a place untouched by humans, then the places touched by humans, referred to as civilization in this assignment, must be intricately intertwined with wilderness one cannot exist without the other. 2. However, due to advancements in agriculture and domestication, man was set apart from nature for the first time. This separation between man and nature grew, to where humans began to perceive certain aspects of nature as a dark, unknown entity of wildness , which was full of savage creatures and other unknown dangers. These fears instigated a feeling of superiority based on a need for dominance over the wilderness. Man lived in, and with, nature until this separation, when the concept of wilderness began. Homelessness Effect When homelesspeople are faced with these factors their they will face even worse situations. In addition, the causes and effects of homelessness are often interchangeable. This part will explain how these factors bring the effect on individual, community and society. Homelessness damages people s possibility and capability of motivation and it can bring emotional health problems such as depression, bipolar disorder and schizophrenia. A study reveals that 20 25% of homeless people, compared with 6% of the non homeless, have severe mental illness. (National Coalition,2009). This situation causes even more harm for women as the researchers found homeless women are more likely to need support for mental health problems than men. (St Mungo s ,2016). This situation can lead more homeless people to be alcoholics and have a high dependency on drugs. Accounting for just over a third of all homelessness deaths is an abuse of drugs and alcohol. Therefore, the brand value or image of the community can be reduced by homelessness on the street. Unfortunately, tourists or non homeless people can feel uncomfortable or in danger when they walk by them. In addition, Public public facilities can be abused or overused by people in this situation. Regardless of age and other circumstances of homelessness it is obvious that homelessness has a huge impact on the development of society. The Effects OfCancer Paved The Road For My Life Research Experience I was forced to leave my childhood an a early age. My mother was diagnosed with cervical cancer when I was eight years old. This moment I became the parent to my mother to nurse my mother back to health following her surgery and radiation treatments. My mother s life was spared thanks to advancing medical treatments. Intimately witnessing the impact of cancer paved the road for my passion in biomedical research. Ten years later, I began my journey at Mills College, where I obtained a B.A in Biochemistry and Molecular Cell Biology. While at Mills College, I was confronted with another reality when I learned my father was diagnosed with testicular cancer. After immediate surgery and chemotherapy, his cancer was eliminated. Taking part in connecting science with medicine for medical advancements aimed to benefit human health became my focus and obtaining experience in the biomedical research became imperative. Metabolic Integration in Salmonella enterica: My first research experience began with a summer internship at the Bacteriology department in the University of Wisconsin, Madison investigating the compensatory mechanisms involved in metabolic integration. An Analysis OfFrankenstein And The Modern Prometheus By... An analysis of Frankenstein; or, the modern Prometheus by Mary Shelly The title of the book, Frankenstein; or, the modern Prometheus is a reference to the story about Prometheus in Greek mythology. Prometheus was a titan who sided with the other titans to join the Greek gods in their war against the titans. Since I have not read that story, I do not know much else about what happened but I assume that Shelly´s novel will be somewhat similar in the sense that someone will side with his friends and join the enemy. The title itself is fairly long. That is probably the reason that it is more known as just Frankenstein. The whole title is certainly interesting. The book is so famous that everyone knows about it and I would probably have read it eventually anyway just because of that. But the extended title made it even more interesting. Greek mythology is usually pretty interesting and that title implies that Mary Shelly wrote her own version of the story. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Youth Violence ResearchPaper Back in the old days, violence was a seldom occurrence. As years passed, however, it became more and more common. In today s time, violence is just a part of everyday life and is happening among all age groups of people. Shockingly, the biggest spike in violence has happened among teenagers and young children. While there are many factors associated with this increase in youth violence, one of the biggest key components is that cartoons, such as Tom and Jerry, Scooby Doo, and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, contain a lot more violence than they used to. Tom and Jerry is a very well known cartoon that has been around for a long time. Although most people probably see nothing wrong with the show, it is actually filled with all sorts of violence. In every episode of Tom and Jerry, Tom, the cat, tries to capture and eat Jerry, the mouse. As if that is not bad enough, the whole time that Tom is trying to get Jerry they are constantly beating and hitting each other. The Religion AndIts Origins This chapter was exactly like Vavova s chapter as it was defending morals from debunkers. The author merely formed a defense for keeping his religious beliefs. The author had four parts of his argument. He introduces the arguments and claims that he can defend religion. In the introduction, the author puts out a hypothetical situation where a person, Fred, believes in evolution and God. Fred can see that evolution does not include whether not God is involved. The author claims that this is similar to a debunking argument, but he can defend a religious belief. The author then goes over the structure of his argument and requests patience from the reader on the matter. In the second part of his argument, the author explains religion and its origins. According to psychologists, folk theories are universal processes of human thought and we have found a lot of them. However the fact that we have folk theories does not explain why we have them. Debunking does not argue about whether cognitive evolution is true, it argues around the implications if it were true. Belief forming processes must be truth tracking. However, does that meant that evolution forces us into skepticism? The author doesn t believe so, because of the possibility of a Milvian Bridge. Natural selection would help if it selected for the truth. Targets of beliefs should be causes of beliefs, making them remote and proximate. This is his detailed account of a Milvian Bridge. Despite their strong impact, both socially and economically, the surveillance systems and programs currently deployed for the prevention of nosocomial infections are quite dishomogeneous and, in many situations, do not exist at all. There are two main discriminating factors in this critical situation. The first relates to the chronic lack of funds for a serious policy of prevention, particularly in terms of an effective screening process. The second concerns the lack of accurate knowledge and widespread awareness on the part of health care operators who are apparently unable to see the problem, in its complexity, as a factor that impacts on all health care processes, be that at regional or hospital level. How Art CanBe Considered Many Things Art can be considered many things. It can be considered a sculpture, a painting, a song, a movie, but it could also be considered a carefully thought out plan. Art lives through time, and among the criteria of what constitutes the best in Art is that it refuses to be forgotten. Da Vinci s Mona Lisa , Van Gogh s Starry Night , or even Campbell s Soup Cans by Warhol have not, as of yet, been forgotten. Much like memorials, which are made with the intention of living through time by depicting a singular, particular moment of history. Art aims to be remembered, not forgotten. Small towns such as Hillsboro were very prone to streamlined views in every possible topic of extremities such as religion to minor topics relative to eateries, gossip, and small town politics. Lawrence and Lee do an exceptional job representing and setting the scene of this town by painting the history of the play s main characters. They make a strong point about the lack of strayed opinion as everyone is primarily religious in views and science is taught according to the bible. In a sense it is wrong for one to have a mind or speak about views that clash with what has been widely accepted in Hillsboro. Drummond is a notorious criminal defense lawyer who openly voices his opinions about one s ability to think and have a valid opinion about racy topics; anything that comes to mind. He is deemed atheist and uses his wit and knowledge of the world to humiliate his nemesis (Brady). Drummond stems his argument from the townspeople s tunneled vision of religion. He dissects the bible in its entirety and exposes its truths to all. The individual human mind. In a child s power to master the multiplication table there is more sanctity than in all your shouted Amens! , Holy, Holies! and Hosannahs! An idea is a greater monument ... As quoted in Barnard (1996) from the Encyclopedia of the Social Sciences, Whether authority is of personal or institutional origin it is created and maintained by public opinion, which in turn is conditioned by sentiment, affection, reverence, or fatalism . The implications of authority to leadership are just as critical as motivation and decision making. In general terms, without public support, leaders. Contemporary Approaches There are four contemporary approaches discussed here in our Unit 2 reading sociotechnical systems theory, quantitative management, organizational behavior, and systems theory. They are to help an individual are group organization. All of these approaches should be taken into consideration when striving to compete in competitive business environment. I think organization behavior is the most important because the approach is the systematic study of knowledge about how people as individuals and as groups act within organizations. The dynamics of group behavior and of the formation and suitability of any group need to be understood and implemented well, in order to achieve a harmonious working environment. Organization behavior is a contemporary approach that also studies and identifies management activities that promote employee effectiveness by examining the complex and dynamic nature of individual, group and organization processes. Exploring The RoleOf Hades In Greek Mythology In Greek mythology, Hades was regarded as the oldest son of Cronus and Rhea, although the last son regurgitated by his father. He and his brothers Zeus and Poseidon defeated their father s generation of gods, the Titans, and claimed rulership over the cosmos. Hades received the underworld, Zeus the sky, and Poseidon the sea, with the solid earth long the province of Gaia available to all three concurrently. Hades was often portrayed with his three headed guard dog Cerberus and, in later mythological authors, associated with the Helm of Darkness and the bident. Many do not know but Hades is not only the god of the Underworld but the dead and riches. In Greek mythology, Hades the god of the underworld, was a son of the Titans Cronus and Rhea. He had three sisters, Demeter, Hestia, and Hera, as well as two brothers, Zeus, the youngest of the three, and Poseidon. Upon reaching adulthood, Zeus managed to force his father to disgorge his siblings. After their release, the six younger gods, along with allies they managed to gather, challenged the elder gods for power in the Titanomachy, a divine war. The war lasted for ten years and ended with the victory of the younger gods. Following their victory, according to a single famous passage in the Iliad (xv.187 93), Hades and his two brothers, Poseidon and Zeus, drew lots for realms to rule. Zeus received the sky, Poseidon received the seas, and Hades received the underworld, the unseen realm to which the souls of the dead go upon leaving the world as well as any and all things beneath the earth. Perplexing Economic Welfare Inproviding economic security, the United States is failing compared to the democracies of European countries. The United States has the most inefficient welfare system in the Western world (Patterson, 2013). In the United States, it is hard for people to qualify for assistance in a public assistance program, as the eligibility criteria can be perplexing. Many programs are complicated and have no sliding eligibility scale. For instance, a person who makes $495 in monthly income could be eligible to receive a specific benefit, where another person making $500 in income a month could be ineligible (Patterson, 2013). The Handmaid sTale By Margaret Atwood I made that up. It didn t happen that way. Here s what happened. p. 301 It didn t happen that way either. I m not sure how it happened; not exactly. p. 303 I really admire Margaret Atwood for incorporating questions a reader has while reading the novel and somehow answering it through this writing technique. Unlike other authors who tell their story without room for the reader to question the story s reliability, Atwood does exactly that. Offred often brings up that what this is a retelling, a reconstruction of events encouraging the reader to actually analyze whether they believe her story or not. Cloud Computing AndGoogle App Engine Development Cloud Computing and Google App Engine development About cloud computing: Cloud computing is a term coined for a recent trend towards service oriented cluster computing/processing based on certain SLA and other benefits. It provides simplified and automated process for configuring, deployment, maintenance and easy process to manage the resources. The offering of different clouds (Azure, google, AWS etc.) may differ, but what s common among them is Virtualization and performance isolation for per user/application. Cloud computing can broadly be classified into 3 broad categories: Software as a service SaaS describes a system in which high level functionality software as an on demand is hosted by a cloud and shared to end client using thin client application via internet. The main feature of SaaS systems is that the API offered to the cloud client is for a complete software service. The SaaS Cloud provider may charge end user based on number of users or number of requests hit on hosted API. Example Sales Force. Platform as a service PaaS refers to the availability of scalable services through an interface from which restricted network accessible, applications written in high level languages (Java,.net, python etc.) can be created. Psychoactive drugs are some of the most life altering and dangerous medications on the market today. There are many prescribers who push these drugs on families who are not educated on the dangers and risks that these medications can present to children. According to a clinical report from Systematic Reviews, despite the extensive body of research into the epidemiology, pathophysiology and treatment of ADHD, less emphasis has been placed on methodologically sound comparative research questions evaluating and comparing different ADHD treatment options (The Pharmacological and Non Pharmacological Treatment). Because there is not enough research on how different treatments work compared to each other, it is hard to determine a perfect course of treatment for ADHD. Among psychiatric and pharmacological treatments, pharmacological treatment is the most commonly accepted method of treatment. Even though the use of psychoactive drugs is the most accepted method of treatment, controversies and public debate over the appropriate diagnosis and treatment of ADHD continue to exist (The Pharmacological and Non Pharmacological Treatment). There is not sufficient evidence to show that medication will be more effective or useful for treatment of ADHD. Because there is not a large benefit to the use of medications, different approaches for treatment should be considered to avoid the substantial side effects that can result from the use of psychoactive ... Organizational Behavior (Ob ) Organizational behavior (OB) is the study of how people interact within groups and can be used to achieve a covenant relationship within organizations similar to the relationship that God has with His people. Personalities have a significant role in OB and personality tests create value by allowing organizations to determine ahead of time where potential conflict may arise between employees. The Jung Typology Test classifies people into one of the sixteen personality types determined by Isabel Briggs Myers and one of the four temperaments defined by David Keirsey. This discussion examines the effect of my ISTJ personality type and SJ temperament on myself and those around me on a personal and professional level. The analysis covers the strengths, weaknesses, and sources of conflict associated with each individual aspect of the ISTJ personality introverted, sensing, thinking, and judging as well as assessing the personality type as a whole. Lastly, the discussion concludes with lessons I have learned regarding the use of OB in workplace improvement efforts, as well as specific areas where I can use OB to enhance my performance as an employee, co worker, and manager. Isabella Stewart GardnerMuseum Essay The Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum publically showcases Mrs. Gardner s collection in the greater Boston area. In this paper, I will examine the Gothic room s theme in relation to the placement of its objects. I will also evaluate the room s strengths and challenges in serving the public, and how the conventions employed in this room contribute to the general accessibility of the museum. Since, in her will, Mrs. Gardner rejected any alteration to the museum s walls, visitors can only rely on a limited amount of information cards when encountering an artwork, due to a lack of labels. It is for that reason that academics who visit the museum to do research might find the scarcity of information challenging. This process turns the museum visit into a treasure hunt of trying to locate a specific object listed on the sheet to learn more about it. While this differs from a normal display, it allows the patrons to interact with the art in a leisurely manner. It has the positive effect of entering a new world when one walks into the ... King Henry AsA Good King In William Shakespeare s Henry V What does it mean to be a king as compared to a man? William Shakespeare s work Henry V attempts to answer this question with a title character who is both. King Henry s morality, defined by his deeply complex character, rests precariously on the title he is defined by: should he be judged solely as a king or also as a man? The label makes a difference. Through his actions and leadership during the play, Henry proves himself to be a good king, one worthy of respect and admiration. However, at the same time, the same actions do not always reveal a particularly good or virtuous man. Highlighting the disparity between the two roles, Shakespeare intended for King Henry to be admired and respected as a good king but not necessarily as a good man. To understand this distinction, one must first recognize that the qualities that make up a good king often diverge from those attributed to a good man. For example, to be considered a good man, one might try to be forgiving and tolerant; however, to be a good king, one often has to be exactly the opposite. Why does this make sense? It is not because a king is naturally unforgiving or refuses to take the high road; instead, he has a higher purpose than to be kind to those immediately around him. To be a good king, one cannot be an emotional creature, but instead be a calculating one. He should put the needs of his kingdom above all other things, including his own desires or whims. A good king recognizes that he must serve, protect, and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
