The Glue For Successful Medical Device Companies
There will always be situations were some employees, managers, and even entire departments do not
equally pull their weight equally as other departments. Fair workload distribution goes a long way, but
if team members are slacking and not taking their job seriously, it trickles down throughout the
company in a negative manner. However, in a high demand industry the work never really stops, so
someone has complete the job.
Individuals that do their best to exceed expectations and goals are the glue for successful medical
device companies. They make sure everything is process oriented and all functions of distribution are
utilized at maximum potential. It may be unfair, yet the more efficient employees become over worked
and less enthused ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Rules should apply to everyone equally or the drive and will of a good team will begin to diminish
exponentially.
Consistent contribution and consistent accountability are generally needed from all employees at all
places of occupation, especially with surgery equipment. When one s morale decreases or ethical
standards are not as strong, everyone suffers, not only from a working stand point, but from a mental
stand point as well. When this gets to a certain level the turnover rate at most jobs eventually
increases. Estlund explains how recent estimates suggest that American businesses lose approximately
$300 billion per year as a result of the loss of productivity, absenteeism, turnover, and increased
medical costs due to the increased stress at work (Estlund, 2003).
In our society, being held accountable might make one think twice about being negligent in certain
situations. Rules are created to protect and to regulate, nevertheless, when they are not followed
correctly or at all, negative effects eventually occur. If there is no consequence to rebellious acts
towards the rules for some individuals, but extreme consequences for others illustrates that the
transparency of accountability is cloudy.
Management needs to set up checks and balances amongst themselves, as well as for the workers.
Working around medical parts used for surgery further complicates the situation. A very high standard

Analysis Of The Stimulus Material Given I Saw A...
From reading the stimulus material given I saw a relationship between the disappearance of language
and technological advancements. In the Self Portrait Along the Borderline Between Mexico and the
United States by Frida Khalo a painting that shows the differences between Mexico and America in
the 1900s, there appears to be a difference of culture between America and Mexico. America is more
modern, as Mexico is more classic. America s modernization is shown in the different factories in the
background, and Mexico s classicism is shown through the ancient Mexican temple in the
background. As stated in Vanishing Voices , written by Russ Rymer, As modern inventions like cars
enters their world, the Seris tend to adapt their language rather than import Spanish words. Erica
Barnett uses an abandoned car as a hothouse to grow mangroves to replenish an estuary (21). Rymer is
stating that with new technologies, people need to adapt. I believe that not only do people need to
adapt, but also governments need to be more accustomed to advances in technology. With the
introduction of the Internet many governments need to change. This change would come through
passing different laws which would censor the Internet and in doing so, limit freedom of speech,
because this is widely controversial in the US. I began to look at why this is so controversial.
According to Andrea Leadsom, a Conservative Member of Parliament for South Northamptonshire,
the Internet should be censored for the kids.

Shoemaker Levy 9 Research Paper
Soon after being discovered, the comet, Shoemaker Levy 9 began to make it s mark on Jupiter and
even bigger impact on Earth. In 1994 a recently identified comet crashed into the gaseous surface of
what we call Jupiter. Not only did this happen thirteen years ago, but we can still see evidence of the
comet s impact to this day. In March of 1993 a small group of astronomers known for discovering
many other comets laid eyes upon the soon to be Shoemaker Levy 9 comet. Their names being David
Levy and Eugene and Carolyn Shoemaker gave way to the comet s name, Shoemaker Levy 9. The 9
however, was added to symbolize that they had numbered the comets they had discovered before and
this one happened to be the ninth Shoemaker Levy comet. This comet began

Why Is Forbidden Books Banned
Forbidden Books: Why banning books is never a good idea.
Numerous books have been prohibited by various people and countries all over the world, however, is
it really intelligent to do so? At the very least, I personally believe that it s a completely ridiculous
idea and that an approach of such likes should be lost. Everybody, regardless of their background or
living status, have a right to read what they desire for. Without question, books are one of the great
human inventions which originate from the will to record one s ideas, findings and memories to pass
down to future generations.
First of all, the possession of someone s freedom and the right to choose and read is essential,
therefore the banning of particular books, to me, is nonsense. However, it is understandable that many
books consist of uncomfortable explicit content which ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This book was published in 1988 and was banned for its content, which offended countless Muslims
due to the fact that it portrayed Islam as a deceptive religion which was sexually deviant. It is also
known how there were many gruesome incidents situated around the problem concerning the book.
Examples include a Japanese translator of the book being stabbed to death as well as an Italian
translator encountering yet another assault, which resulted in a serious injury. Clearly, it can be seen
how easily the antagonism developed into an irreparable situation. Therefore, allow me to affirm how
books should not have the option of being banned to avoid predicaments likewise.
In the end, I find books to be a valuable source of information and beliefs that cannot, and should not,
be bound by the chains of selfishness. Furthermore, people are privileged to read and express their
thoughts in freedom. Thus, I believe that a person s choice of books should never be affected by
anyone and should be chosen accordingly by the person

The Discovery Of Polio Vaccine Essay
In the early 1900s, scientists and medical personnel did not have an answer to poliomyelitis, otherwise
known as polio. However, a breakthrough was reached when Jonas Salk managed to developed the
first vaccine, which he brought to the public in 1955 after testing the drug on himself, family, and
others. Salk developed a killed virus vaccine through tissue culture methods discovered by the
scientist John Enders. Unfortunately, Salk s vaccine was not the cure that the scientific community,
and the world, had hoped for, as the results of the vaccine took a critical turn for the worse shortly
after release. According to Naomi Rogers, Cutter Laboratories, one of the original mass producers of
Salk s polio vaccine, released many faulty vaccines which resulted in greatly diminishing Salk s
reputation:
Both Salk s and the Foundation s reputations were briefly tarnished by what became termed the Cutter
incident. Within fifteen days of Francis s April 1955 report, the Foundation s worst fears seemed to be
realized when cases of paralysis were reported among children who had received the vaccine. After
federal officials from the Communicable Disease Center established that these cases were the result of
vaccination from a batch prepared by Cutter Laboratories of Berkeley, California, Surgeon General
Leonard Scheele halted the vaccination program for a week. (Rogers 180)
The fears brought upon by the Cutter incident led to the rise of alternative research, in particular that

The Meaning Of Life In Siddhartha
iddhartha LAP
Topic #8
Abid Ahmad
Everything we do in the world is absolutely pointless. We as humans are irrelevant specks in the vast
universe that go about our repetitive lives for no apparent reason. At the end of the day, it makes no
difference how much good or bad we do in the world. This is the ignorant view of the world that fails
to see the perfect harmony in which we all live our lives. The redundant cycles that we try so hard to
get away from are part of our overarching connectedness as humans. As parts of a whole, all of us
have a role to play in making our lives better for ourselves and others. Our role is the very meaning of
life, and we should embrace it wholeheartedly. The novel Siddhartha by Hermann Hesse stresses this
cyclical unification through various circular constructions throughout Siddhartha s life. Siddhartha had
to deal with many individual stages of his life that seemed pointless. These cycles almost drove him to
the point of suicide, but he was saved by the river which acted as a symbol for his entire life, as a
united whole. This was the gateway to his attainment of enlightenment, allowing him to feel closer to
everyone around him. Siddhartha began as an affluent Brahmin s son, coveted by all close to him. His
family and friends greatly admired the level of intuition and intellect that Siddhartha had possessed.
Govinda, his best friend, constantly adored him and followed in his footsteps. In this life, Siddhartha
began the

Pension Funds and Pension Crisis
Pension Funds and the Pension Crisis Introduction Pension funds are any plans, funds or schemes
which provide retirement income. These funds are important to shareholders of listed and private
companies and they are particularly important to the stock market which is dominated by large
institutional investors. This essay discusses the idea of pension funds and the pension crises. It defines
the issues of pension funds, talks about the various pensions, categorizes them, and discusses the
pension crisis and its implications to the US in particular and to the world in general. Pension Funds
Pension funds are any plans, funds or schemes which provide retirement income. The money in them
varies from some offering very little making it not worthwhile for their holder to retires, whilst others
pay more than the employee has earned in his lifetime. Examples of the former are the present day
crisis with Chicago teachers who have found that their pension is giving them as little as 42,000 per
year ((NYT Times (September 19, 2012) Next School Crisis for Chicago: Pension Fund Is Running
Dry). Examples with the latter are the absurd instances of Yonkers, where policemen in their 40s are
retiring on $100,000 pensions (more than their top salaries), or in California, where payments to
Calipers, the biggest state pension fund, soared while financing for higher education was cut (ibid).
The largest 300 pension funds collectively hold about $6 trillion in assets (Global Investment

Advantages And Disadvantages Of An Analog Signal
An analog signal is a continuous signal in which the time varying signal is a representation of some
other time varying quantity i.e. in an audio signal, the instantaneous voltage of the signal varies with
the pressure of the sound waves
Analog signal processing is a type of signal processing conducted on which continuous analog signals
by some analog means
The difference between the analog and digital signal processing is that analog signal has continuous
values unlike the digital which has discrete values. Now a days, signal processing plays an important
role in many of applications. The mostly used physical quantities which represent analog quantities
are current, voltage or charge. These quantities are affected by certain external forces ... Show more

As the signal is transmitted over long distances, the noise become dominant. The effects of noise
create signal loss and variation. It is not possible to recover.
Distortion in Analog Signal Defined to be the change of shape in signal sent from the source to the
destination which is due to the addition of noise in our required signal.
Thermal Noise Noise due to random motion of electrons cause thermal noise. Due to this noise signal
s shape distorted.
Attenuation is loss of energy in the signal as it is transmitted from the one point to other point. This
occurs in case the signal has to be sent over a long distance. To remove this effect we use amplifiers
which amplify the signal. But there is a problem that when we amplify the given signal the noise also
gets amplified.
Digital signal processing is the numerical manipulation of signals, usually with the measure, filter,
produce in continuous analog signals. It is characterized by the use of digital signal to represent these
signals as discrete time and frequency, or other discrete domain signals in the form of a sequence of
numbers to permit the digital processing of these

Hisssss! The tram slid to a stop, hovering slightly above the track.
Welcome to Station 7. An electronic voice said over the intercom. Enjoy your stay in Nia.

In the center of White Point Garden at the Charleston Battery, beholds a statue thats beautiful art
conveys a very powerful message to the public that cannot be ignored. The Confederate Defenders of
Charleston monument very clearly conveys a sense of power, but with more analyzation, a deeper
meaning is found through description, visuals, and appeals. Created by Herman A. MacNeil, the
statue, standing at thirteen feet tall, is a bronze statue that features a male warrior with a sword and a
shield protecting a woman behind him standing on a octagonal platform. Around the base of the statue
there is pictures of warriors fighting and the words: To the Confederate Defenders of Charleston Fort

shining straight towards the monument. When designing the monument, it is believed that Herman A,
MacNeil had the intention of showing how strong those in the confederacy were, and that they would
protect the confederacy as a whole during any issues that could arise. When looking at the statue, the
first thing noticed is the semi unclothed man with a shield and sword at the very front, and I feel that
the designer placed him in that position to show that the confederacy at the time of the Civil War was
extremely powerful. There is also a lady standing behind the man, presumably the mans wife, and she

Persuasive Essay On Wild Boars
Wild boars were originally brought over by the Spanish in 1539 as food aboard their ships and in the
new lands, but now they re taking over much of the US. There are an estimated five to six million wild
boars in the United States with an estimated one million in Florida alone. Spreading rapidly with no
intention of slowing down, these wild boars are causing devastation to the native environment
throughout the United States with their destructive habits. The US government has precautions put
into place to try and control aspects of the boar population, but they re negating it with regulations that
are benefiting the boars rather than the general population and native species. There are measures that
need to be put into place in order to control the wild boar population and the destruction that comes
with them.
The native Flora and Fauna of the United States is being threatened by numerous invasive species, one
of which is considered to be the most destructive. The wild boar is known to dwell in 35 states and is
costing the US an estimated $1.5 billion each year in damages. Eating almost everything it sets its
eyes on, boars dig up anything it desires to eat in a process called rooting. When a wild boar does a
rooting behavior to dig up food it destabilizes the soil surface which leads to surface erosion. The
surface erosion removes the top layer of soil that is responsible for having the richest organic matter
leading to the soil losing nutrients needed to support plant life. Wild board also feed on a large
quantity of native vegetation leaving the native plants not enough time to fully recover before being
trampled over again by the damaging heathens. Males also tusks small trees removing the bark layer
on an area of the tree in order to mark their territory and display their dominance. This tusking
behavior causing serious harm to trees and has the potential to kill the tree. There is a phloem layer
under the bark of a tree that comes up when boars do their tusking behavior. Nutrients such as water
and minerals travel up the Phloem layer of the tree from the roots to the leaves, but if the phloem layer
is removed from a portion of the tree it restricts the nutrients distributed throughout the tree and leads

Metaphors Of A Magnifico By Wallace Stevens Essay
Modernist poetry is too abstract to convey any meaningful social or political message. Do you agree?
Modernist poetry is not too abstract to convey any meaningful social or political message because it
depends on the readers how they read it or analysis it. If the readers read the poem carefully and think
afar, then the poem conveys meaningful social and political messages. However, the poem Metaphors
of a Magnifico by Wallace Stevens convey both social and political messages where the social
message that he conveys to the reader is to work in group rather than working individual in the society
and the political message that the poet conveys to the readers is that in order to write a book or poem,

readers that in order to have a good and better community, the people in the community have to work

informs the readers that the ideas of twenty people are better compared to idea of a single person. The

The Influence Of The Baroque Period
People used to describe the Baroque period as grand, joyful, exuberant and dynamic. The term
Baroque originally represented an irregular, oddly shaped pearl in Italian. The Baroque took the
design of the Renaissance and transformed it into its own interior style. As with the Renaissance, the
Baroque was born in Rome, date from the late 16th century. While in some parts of the world,
especially Germany and colonial South America, certain culminating achievements of Baroque did not
appear until the 18th century.
The popularity and success of the Baroque age was informed by the tensions of the Reformation and

Great quantities of windows are applied in the interior, including windows on the ceilings and walls.

Have you ever noticed that people and animals can relate with each other in many different ways? It s
probably never even crossed your mind. But,now you are reading my story and that thought will cross
your mind every second, every minute, and every hour of your life. In my three paragraphs I will

If you were asked What is a painter? the first word that will come out of your mouth is person. But
people aren t the only living thing able to paint . Monkey Master is a perfect representation of how
people relate to animals because in this story a monkey named Congo can paint. Congo was a monkey

humans because when artists or regular people are in the middle of their artwork and it was suddenly

Sofia Coppola s Lost In Adaptation
Lost in Adaptation Whitewashing has cast white actors to play the role of historically non white
characters since the birth of the film industry. From Mickey Rooney playing a Japanese landlord in
Breakfast at Tiffany s to Ghost in the Shell for casting Scarlett Johansson in an originally Asian role,
there is no doubt that this casting practice will be stopped. But why is whitewashing in Hollywood
still prevalent in Hollywood despite its disapproval?
Discussed in Corey Atad s article, Lost in Adaptation, the director, Sofia Coppola is guilty for gutting
the historical and racial background in her The Beguiled. Based on the novel by Thomas P. Cullinan
(1966), and the adapted film by Don Siegel (1971), The Beguiled is a story set in the South during the

Examples Of My Personal Interpretation Of The American Dream
Every single person interprets the american dream differently. However there is one thing that remains
the same in every one of our American Dreams. The American Dream is the hope for a better life and
wanting to be successful, whether being successful is having your dream job or just living in a place
you feel safe and secure. My personal interpretation of the american dream is that in America we all
have the chance to receive and education and become anything you want to be. But there are some
things that prevent us from living our dream. The first thing that can prevent us from living our dream
is location. Maybe you don t even live in America but want to go there some day, because you have

The Importance Of Gender Equality
A controversial topic that still brings about heated debated is gender equality. Furthermore, the
movement historically consisted mostly of women fighting for equal rights. Fifty years after the
ratification of the nineteenth amendment, American women began lobbying for the Equal Rights
Amendment. Phyllis Schlafly s What s Wrong with Equal Rights for Women?, was a passionate
publication highlighting disadvantages women would suffer if the amendment succeeded. The article
spotlights adverse effects that would consequently befall the everyday married women and mother.
Although the article roused the typical American family to stop the ratification of the Equal Rights
Amendment, the text is detrimental to the progress of the gender equality movement because it
dictates that people should be content with conventional gender roles, which completely disregards the
genuine goal of equality. Despite the fact she advocates women s rights, her views on religion, family
and sex are unprogressive and traditionalistic. Schlafly initially introduces the audience to the topic of
religion, and employs it in a manner that leaves the current day reader exasperated. All people have
encountered religion at some point in their lives, and have definitive emotions about it. She starts by
explaining that women, not men, have babies and that its simply the way God made us (1). While her
use of logos here is effective, she alienates her non religious readers with the mention of God.

Edvard Munch
This paper will explain the growth of the simplistic impressionist, Edvard Munch, and how he slowly
started to take part in the art movement against the bourgeois. Munch was always heavily interested in
death and illness due to childhood experiences, and portrayed that in his art. He was an intelligent and

understand it fully. He worked with an abundance of mediums, making him a well experienced artist

The Toy Story Films From Pixar
The Toy Story films from Pixar are remembered fondly for their clever settings, good drama, and
memorable characters. These films pretty much have what every good movie can be expected to have.
One of the most fondly remembered characters of this film trilogy is the lead protagonist, Sheriff
Woody. In Toy Story, a film where children s toys secretly come to life when no human is around to
witness them, Woody is the favorite toy of his own kid, Andy, who spends most of his spare time
playing with him in particular, taking him throughout his home and treating the toy like a close friend,

Patients are becoming armed with devices that can empower, monitor, track and even measure their
disease progression creating interventions when necessary to optimize the health and response time to
disease. New devices and tools technology into a smartphone for example, have the potential to
become an extension of a patient s health care provider and already change the way in which patients
interact with the medical system. These various devices can allow public health officials to better
monitor and screen for diseases in large populations and ultimately help improve preventive strategies
and access to care for millions of Americans. This is all a critical part of improving outcomes for
patients going forward.
As pharmacists we are aware that the management of COPD is multi pronged approach. Treatment
focuses on monitoring changes and relieving symptoms, improving function/exercise tolerance and
ongoing vigilance. There exists however, variables needed to assess and monitor the disease, reduce
risk factors, such as smoking and air pollution, stabilize care to prevent disease progression and
manage exacerbations and comorbid conditions. This could not be accomplished without the infusion
of the healthcare technologies. (17).

Nymph Callisto Analysis
This visual description is of the oil painting by Frenchman François Boucher Jupiter in Guise of Diana
and the Nymph Callisto dated 1759 is an oil painting 57.79 × 69.85 cm (22.8 × 27.5 in) on canvas,
which hangs in the Nelson Atkins Museum of Art in Kansas City, Missouri. The focal point of this
work is the two voluptuous female figures in the center of the bottom half of the canvas. The women
appear to be gentle lovers, gazing each into the others eyes; their expressions are soft and loving, and
their bodies relaxed. Their lightly toned skin colored with a subtle pink flush along with their curvy
bodies make the figures look and feel soft, beckons the viewer to reach out to touch them. Their
sensual appearance enhanced by the pale pink and ivory palette used to render their forms, so gently
blended the change in tone throughout the images no brushstrokes are visible.
Callisto, a beautiful fully nude young blond nymph reclines, across the lap of Jupiter, in the guise of
Diana, her right arm extended lazily across Diana s right forearm, her hand, holding an arrow, gently
touches an angelic putti. Tucked between their bodies is a satiny ivory white gown, atop a velvety
smoky blue dress and leopard skins. The detail of the pelt is so expertly rendered an observer wants to
stroke it, fine brushwork defines the fur, dark umber spots on golden ground.

Human Geography And Development Studies
In today s world people, places, societies and environments are constantly changing. Both natural and
human created events, shape the world and create strong relationships between the environment and
society. Human geography and development studies are two fields seeking to analyse these
interrelationships and answer key questions about major issues in the world such as poverty, inequality
and conflict. Human geography is largely about studying the spatial aspects of relationships between
people and society whereas development studies focusses more on the way societies function,
focussing on issues such as poverty and inequality as well as the way in which developing nations
function compared to developed nations. Through examples of poverty and inequality this essay will
explain the ways in which development studies and human geography overlap and the ways in which
they are different in their analyses.
Human geography is defined as The study of interrelationships between people, places and
environment and how these vary spatially and temporally across and between locations (Castree,
Kitchin and Rogers, 2013). It looks at how society shapes the environment and vice versa. Although
physical geography and human geography are separate fields they both concentrate on spatial
processes; physical geography more on the natural and physical sciences and human geography on the
way in which human lives are shaped by processes in nature (Castree et al., 2013). A key principle of

Major Feminist Criminological Perspectives

these three perspectives will be mention and contrast from each other. Finally, these three perspectives

In other words, if a woman commits a crime should receive the same punishment that men receive
when he commits the same type of crime. At the same time, these liberal females challenged the
prevailing assumption that males and females have a different role in society. Another significant
feminist criminological perspective is Radical Feminism. This aspect deals with the way in which the
capitalist economic system fosters crime through the creation of a patriarchal and sexist society. This
perspective is that women have to stay at home as an unpaid housekeeping, and men have the right to
control women. In other words, women have to follow all the instructions and rules that her husband
establishes at the house. By this perspective, women s can exercise control over their bodies and the
restructuring family relationship in order to eliminate male domination. However, radical feminist
does not believe that women s liberation will increase female crime rates. Another important feminist
criminological perspective is Socialist Feminism. This view identifies the oppression of women as a
symptom of the patriarchal capitalist system. This aspect considered

The serial killer is a person that goes on to kill multiple people over a period of time. There has been
many serial killers throughout history. The serial killer is a means of escape from human civilization.
A human civilization that deals with social norms, responsibilities, and dullness of life.
First of all, the serial killer is a means of escape from human civilization s social norms. Social norms
are the expected ways people are supposed to act around other people. They are unwritten laws people
try to follow every day. The serial killer escapes and defies these social norms by living a life of their

well in Bruce A. Evans 2007 film Mr. Brooks. Earl brooks is a known businessman. His life is boring,
and builds a strange fetish of murder to keep him entertained. When Mr. Brooks is murdering his

human civilization s social norms, responsibilities, and dullness of life. The serial killer is clearly a
means of escaping human civilization. An alternative reason for escaping human civilization can be
because of peoples mind set, be away from big groups, and even escape judgement. The serial killer

A Brief Look at Mary Magdalene
As an influential biblical figure, Mary Magdalene has been the subject of numerous works of art. She
has been represented in a variety of tropes and styles; which were subject to the religious, political,
and social standards of the time. Giacomo Galli s Saint Mary Magdalene was painted in the early
seventeenth century in Italy, at the beginning of the Baroque era. By contorting Magdalene s body,
bathing her in light and encompassing her in darkness, Galli was able to present the viewer with an
image representative of her divided identity.
Galli likely chose to paint the Magdalene because she was one of the most popular saints in Baroque
Italy. As Susan Haskins (author of Mary Magdalen: Myth and Metaphor) notes, from the thirteenth
century, the penitent Magdalene became the most popular image of the saint in Italy, as the perfect
example of a reformed sinner. Magdalene s ______ demonstrated a realistic path of personal
improvement. Her reputation, at the time, revolved around her supposed past as a prostitute.
Historically, this meant that she was cured of a physical ailment and not of prostitution. However, as it
was believed that Magdalene s transformation from prostitute to apostle made her accessible to the
Catholic community, the church exemplified this notion in order to make Magdalene a suitable role
model for repentance.
Religiously charged Baroque paintings of the seventeenth century, such as Galli s Saint Mary
Magdalene, were created by two distinctly

The Lack Of Responsibility Of The Teacher s Union

agree on the base that the school system has been broken. There have been solutions proposed, such as
George W. Bush reform act No Child Left Behind, but we hadn t seen a drastic change in the system.
The biggest question that is raised is that what changes, as flawed as the system looks, should be
implemented to the system to benefit and excel each and every student in our nation. Is the problem
from the lack of responsibility of the teacher s union as Waiting for Superman argued or is there more

In reality, charter schools only take away funding from the public schools whom already lack funding.
Though Waiting for Superman outline the issue of why public schools failing as a minor importance
and simple to solve, the problem is immense and pleads for a change. Lack of funding being the main
issue, it is in a chain connection with overcrowded schools and thus leading to students not getting the
proper aid to surpass their grade level. Low funded school means that teachers will get laid off, which
will increase class size, increase the burden on the teacher, and after school programs will be
minimized. If the class is overcrowded a teacher wouldn t be able to teach students according to
curriculum. This means that teachers are only going to teach and not be able to help other students
because of the time and funding constraint. According to (U.S. Department of Education, 2011) more

areas that are overpopulated. Based on the Congressional Budget Office s projection made on 2012,

The Negative Factors Of People With Disability In The 20th...
The thing about living with any disability is that you adapt; you do what works for you . Stella Young
Disability is a defined as a physical or mental condition that restrain someone s movements, senses, or
activities. Before the twentieth century, the negative attitude towards a person with disability were not
healthy, sickening, and abnormal. For many centuries, society viewed people with disability an
incompetent, not being able to help themselves. They also viewed disability as a reminder of death. In
the book the psychological and social impact by Marini, I., Stebnicki, M. A. (2012) on mental illness
the author elaborates on how society viewed disability as a reminder of death. The author mentioned
that the loss of body part or physical function constitutes the death of a part, the anxiety associated
with death is rekindled at the sight of a person with disability, and that disability groups are a reminder
of our mortality. Things took a turned for a changed though, in the 20th century there have been
multiple changes on how society views a person with a disability. People with disability in the 20th
century are more respected and are better accommodated prior to the 20th century. Despite the
positive attitude towards people with disability, there are many disability related factors that still
influences some negative responses to disability. Level of severity, degree of visibility, and the degree
of cosmetic, are some of the disability related factors that influences response to disability. When
someone have a disability, the level of severity plays an enormous role on how the person is viewed.
The more severe a disability is, the more negatively it is perceived. Marini, I., Stebnicki, M. A. (2012).
Many people can in fact agree to this statement. A person that have been diagnosed with a severe
disability, often will feel like a burden to society, peers and even family. The reason behind this is
because with a severe disability, the person that acquired the disability might not be able take care of
themselves, physically or financially. Also, they might not be able to provide for their family the way
they use to before acquiring the disability. A person that have acquired a severe disability might

Reflection Paper On Spelling
Spelling: I was able to observe Nick s spelling growth over the course of my 8 week experience. My
mentor teacher did not administer class spelling tests, because the students are at various positions in
the spelling module. Instead, Nick and four other classmates are taken to the back table of the
classroom (shown in the diagram in Appendix A) to complete spelling work on their whiteboards. The
group that Nick is in is known as the advanced students in the class, and they get spelling words that
are in the 3rd grade curriculum. Because the work is completed on whiteboards and then erased, I do
not have any record of Nick s spelling scores. Although I do not have any physical documentation of
Nick s spelling performance, I was able to monitor Nick s spelling performance every time the
spelling work was conducted. Typically, he would get the entirety of the spelling list correct, except
for one or two words that were incorrect. These mistakes were consistently problems with medial
vowels in lengthy words. One thing that I found interesting was that Nick would actually sound out
the word while writing it. The words that he recognized with automaticity would be jotted down
immediately with accuracy. The unfamiliar words would leave Nick contemplating the order of the
letters (usually the medial vowels) and literally sounds the word out loud to himself. My mentor

The Environmental Impact Of Electric Vehicles
Over the last several years, electric vehicles and hybrid electric gasoline vehicles have been gaining
popularity as a more environmentally friendly transportation option. Experts agree that the recent
innovations in technology are impressive, but some question the veracity of the statements made about
emissions and environmental impact of electric cars and hybrids. Currently, electric vehicles are
expensive to produce and create more emissions than gasoline vehicles during the manufacturing
process. However, over the entire life of the car electric vehicles claim to have a lesser effect on the
environment than gasoline cars. If true, then it is possible that greenhouse gas pollution and global
warming could be significantly reduced over time. As the United States continues to develop more
effective ways to generate and store renewable energy, electric cars will become more significant.
There have been numerous studies done on the effect of electric cars on the environment, but not all of
them agree. Some only analyze part of the broader issue, while others seem to have obvious biases as
the center of their argument. One article, Electric Vehicles: Just How Green Are They? by Pamela
Worth explains that the average gasoline powered vehicle gets 29 miles per gallon. Worth uses this
statistic to show that after production, electric vehicles are cleaner than the average gasoline powered
vehicle in all areas of the United States (Worth). Another piece, Gasoline vs

March, 10 2015
The Great Schism The Great Schism of 1378 was caused when the papal court, which was based in
Rome, elected an Italian Pope named Pope Urban VI. The French cardinals refused to accept the
Italian Pope so they announced that his election was invalid and elected a new Pope, Pope Clement
VII. Urban VI began to show absence in self control when he criticized the cardinals for their luxury
and laziness and when he revealed his plan of reforming the Church. Urban VI s violent and abusive
treatment towards the cardinals caused them to fear for their lives and believe he was mentally ill; this
lead to the turn against the cardinals to abandon Rome. At Anagni on August 2 the dissidents
published a manifesto in which they pronounced his election null and void, on the ground that
pressure from the Romans had made a free election impossible (Great Western Schism). When they
took away the position as Pope from Urban they elected his rival which was Clement VII. ... Show

With all that s happened in the turning tides of the political climate in Washington DC, I find a
misquote of an original Albert Einstein quote to be appropriate:
Everything should be as simple as it can be, but not simpler.
It s obvious we live in a divisive time. But lately I ve started to wonder if we live in an oversimplified
one as well. I wonder if our heightened emotions have mistakenly led us to believe things were much
more straightforward then they are. We feel so passionately about so much. And the louder our voices
get, the deeper our convictions go. We are certain unity is possible. (If only the other side who could

It s simple.
But it s not. For me, at least. And feeling this way has led to me feeling ... Show more content on

Still, it does make it more lonely.
But the thing is, I m not convinced I am the only one. I think there are a lot of us. At least I hope there
are. I hope there is an undercurrent of insurgents who are not allowing a political party to determine
where we belong and what we believe. Who see the humanity in those who take the same positions we
do, and in those who are bitterly opposed. Who believe to simplify the cause is to undermine the
cause. And that to reduce the issues to the lowest common denominator is to reduce the personhood of
those who don t agree with us.
We are the new revolutionaries who know that nothing is as simple as it appears, that things are more
murky than maybe either side feels comfortable admitting, and that the act of not belonging anywhere
is in and of itself belonging and taking a stand somewhere. This too takes courage, self reflection, and
conviction. We are not copping out, selling out, or flaking out. We are leaning in, we are tuning in, and
we are giving in to something larger than our need to feel comfortable. We are learning to live in the in
between.
So. Is anyone with

The Habits Of Time Management In High School
Time management had always been a problem for me. Stemming back to high school, I would
procrastinate on everything I had to do. From studying for exams to getting my drivers license,
procrastination always took over my responsibilities. While it was a terrible habit to have, I was able
to bounce back from my stupid mistakes back in high school. This, unfortunately, was not the same
story in college.
In my first quarter at UCSB, I vowed to change my nasty habits of procrastinating on all my
responsibilities. Throughout the course of the quarter, I was doing fairly fine; getting decent grades on
exams, doing my homework, and even finishing readings before they were due. While I was doing
better than I expected, it was primarily due to the fact that I was fairly dedicated to my work, and not
that I was managing my time any better than I did in high school. In other words, I was still
procrastinating, but the topics were not yet too difficult to truly affect my GPA. That is, until my first
finals came around. One thing that future first year students need to understand is that finals weeks is
not just one week; the grind starts on week ten, otherwise known as dead week . This is one bit of
information that did not come across to me on my first attempt at my college finals. As one could
easily guess, I spent my entire dead week having fun, sleeping, and watching television. At the time, I
did not think that I was doing any harm to myself, as I would still have a day to study

Lewis God Almighty Chapter 1 Summary
Lewis begins chapter two with God Almighty, by questioning the meaning of God s omnipotence. He
asserts that God s omnipotence means that God does not have the power to do anything but God does
have power to do anything that is consistent with his nature. God has the power to do all that is
intrinsically possible, not to do the intrinsically impossible. We may attribute miracles to him, but not
nonsense. Lewis then suggests that not even God s omnipotence could create men with free wills
without at the same time creating a relatively independent and unavoidable nature. Lewis establishes a
universe where free souls can communicate with one another and have free will. That man, possessing
this free will, may take advantage of the laws of

The Bombing of Koenigsberg
PROLOUGE
The Empire of Prussia, a nation of greatness and its capital, Koenigsberg. Throughout history the
Germans and the Prussian are renowned for their strength and greatness. Even feared by some but then
came the World War. Germany was sent spiraling into poverty and inflation. German and Prussian
dignity was diminished. Soon after came the Second World War, for some time these Germanic
countries regained the world s power which turned to fear and hatred. Koenigsberg was such a
wondrous city and Gilbert Beilschmidt had the pleasure to live there with his younger brother,
Ludwig. The Beilschmidt family was a respectable one, not the richest of Prussia but they had a strong
German spirit. With the birth of their first son, Gilbert, they lost their respect. Gilbert brought disgrace
to the family. He was born healthy and without problem but in looks he disappointed. A son born with
white hair and bloody red eyes to parents of blonde hair and blue eyes was a horrible thing to come to
the Beilschmidt family. Gilbert s father was convinced his mother had been sleeping around. Du
Schlampe! Ich bin eine Hure heiraten! You bitch! I am married to a whore! shouted his father day and
night.
Deine Mutter ist eine Hure und du bist ein Bastard bist! Your mother is a whore and you are a bastard
son! words Gilbert heard from both his father and form boy he grew up around. No true German
parent wished for their child to play with the bastard albino son of a whore so Gilbert grew

Mind Control Methods in 1984 Essay
Mind Control Methods of 1984 and Today. Everyone wants more money. That s why people go to
college to make more money. That s why people rob banks to get more money. That s why people do
unethical business moves, to receive more money. We are living in a money hungry society. People
want more money because they know that money is power. This power allows us to change, shape and
mold society into exactly what we want. This forming and shaping can make a society more
productive which means more profitable. Yet, it is impossible to sit back and hope that a society will
conform to what will make you rich. Every society, whether real or fiction, uses mind control
methods, to get what they want. In the book 1984, mind control is ... Show more content on

At Winston s job in the ministry of truth, he re writes history to show that Big Brother is always
correct. Winston has constant reminders that Big Brother , the leader of the Inner Party, is always
watching and regulating his daily events. The Inner party makes such rules, so that the lower parties
become weaker and weaker and less chance of rebellion. The spirits and pocket of the people are
empty. This is good for the Inner Party because it keeps them in power, which is in turn richer. Yet,
Winston rebels against Big Brother and wont let the government control him in such a way. Winston is
viewed as the last humanist. He is interested with the basic God given rights of humans. Whether it is,
keeping a secret diary to preserve the truth, having forbidden sexual affairs or denouncing the party by
refusing to adhere to their false facts, Winston stands up for his beliefs until he can take no more. In
today s society, we are plagued by mind control methods as well. These are more subtle than those in
1984 but still have the same premise. The mind control methods used are aimed to achieve the same
goal as in 1984, that goal being power. Since we live in such a narcissistic and materialistic society,
power entails having money. The more money you have, the more powerful one can be. By using

Influence On Western Civilization
Influence of Greece on western civilization
Throughout history, there has been many to hold the title of the greatest and most influential western
civilization. It is believed that Greece more specifically Ancient Greece is the first truly western
civilization and has had a part in the following fields of education. Philosophy being what many
would argue to be the second biggest contribution of Greece. With the first thought coming to my
mind being Aristotle, Socrates, and Archimedes. These philosophers not only contributed to the field
of philosophy; but to science, mathematics, literature, and poetry.
Democracy being possibly the most important influence on all societies. The democracy spoken of is
commonly credited to the fundamental of Athenians Greece by the philosopher Aristotle in 350 B.C.E.
the constitution set up an outline of governance that set term limits from life to 10 years and needing
to be a citizen to serve such terms. This also sets up how to be a citizen and a way for to slaves to
become a citizen. The constitution served as an outline for future democracy s constituents like that of
the united states constitution. I mean the democracy of the Athenians. We see more to admire, and less
to condemn, in that great, extraordinary people, than anything which history affords. (Paine)
Mr. Burke is so little acquainted with constituent principles of government, that he confounds
democracy and representation together. Representation was a thing unknown in the

Megamind Comparison
The plot of the 2010 animated film Megamind begins with two alien babies from different planets
being sent to earth when their planets are being destroyed. One baby ends up being a superhero similar
to superman, Metroman. The other becomes a super villain and the main character of the movie
Megamind. Megamind believes growing up that since his circumstances weren t so great he would
become the greatest villain of all time but he is always defeated until one day he is believed to have
finally killed his arch nemesis Metroman. He soon becomes bored without the routine fights he had
with Metroman and creates a new hero to fight. The new hero he creates named titan ends up being
truly evil. Megamind now finds himself in the position for the very first time of ... Show more content

At the very beginning of the movie when both planets are being destroyed you find that both alien
children are put in space pods to be sent to earth. One child is a handsome and looks human who is
Metroman, while the other child is blue (Megamind) and has a big head. Each space pod is different
while the human looking child has a smooth ride in a fancier pod to earth the blue child is having a
rough ride. You then see Metroman land in a wealthy home while Megamind lands in a prison. This is
an example of the different environments both children landed in were completely different. While
Megamind was a born genius and grows up to be smart he still didn t reach his full potential which is
shown by his inability to pronounce words like school or Metrocity. While Metroman was given all
the tools to succeed. It is the very example of both genes and environment mattering when it comes to
intelligence. Megamind may be book smart but he is very low in intelligence when it comes to people.
In the Psychology textbook Schacter and Gilbert summarize it to, Relative intelligence it generally
stable overtime, but absolute intelligence

  • 2. The Glue For Successful Medical Device Companies There will always be situations were some employees, managers, and even entire departments do not equally pull their weight equally as other departments. Fair workload distribution goes a long way, but if team members are slacking and not taking their job seriously, it trickles down throughout the company in a negative manner. However, in a high demand industry the work never really stops, so someone has complete the job. Rules should apply to everyone equally or the drive and will of a good team will begin to diminish exponentially. Consistent contribution and consistent accountability are generally needed from all employees at all places of occupation, especially with surgery equipment. When one s morale decreases or ethical standards are not as strong, everyone suffers, not only from a working stand point, but from a mental stand point as well. When this gets to a certain level the turnover rate at most jobs eventually increases. Estlund explains how recent estimates suggest that American businesses lose approximately $300 billion per year as a result of the loss of productivity, absenteeism, turnover, and increased medical costs due to the increased stress at work (Estlund, 2003). In our society, being held accountable might make one think twice about being negligent in certain situations. Rules are created to protect and to regulate, nevertheless, when they are not followed correctly or at all, negative effects eventually occur. If there is no consequence to rebellious acts towards the rules for some individuals, but extreme consequences for others illustrates that the transparency of accountability is cloudy. Management needs to set up checks and balances amongst themselves, as well as for the workers. Working around medical parts used for surgery further complicates the situation. • 3. Analysis Of The Stimulus Material Given I Saw A... From reading the stimulus material given I saw a relationship between the disappearance of language and technological advancements. In the Self Portrait Along the Borderline Between Mexico and the United States by Frida Khalo a painting that shows the differences between Mexico and America in the 1900s, there appears to be a difference of culture between America and Mexico. America is more modern, as Mexico is more classic. America s modernization is shown in the different factories in the background, and Mexico s classicism is shown through the ancient Mexican temple in the background. As stated in Vanishing Voices , written by Russ Rymer, As modern inventions like cars enters their world, the Seris tend to adapt their language rather than import Spanish words. Erica Barnett uses an abandoned car as a hothouse to grow mangroves to replenish an estuary (21). Rymer is stating that with new technologies, people need to adapt. I believe that not only do people need to adapt, but also governments need to be more accustomed to advances in technology. With the introduction of the Internet many governments need to change. This change would come through passing different laws which would censor the Internet and in doing so, limit freedom of speech, because this is widely controversial in the US. I began to look at why this is so controversial. According to Andrea Leadsom, a Conservative Member of Parliament for South Northamptonshire, the Internet should be censored for the kids. ... Numerous books have been prohibited by various people and countries all over the world, however, is it really intelligent to do so? At the very least, I personally believe that it s a completely ridiculous idea and that an approach of such likes should be lost. Everybody, regardless of their background or living status, have a right to read what they desire for. Without question, books are one of the great human inventions which originate from the will to record one s ideas, findings and memories to pass down to future generations. First of all, the possession of someone s freedom and the right to choose and read is essential, therefore the banning of particular books, to me, is nonsense. Clearly, it can be seen how easily the antagonism developed into an irreparable situation. Therefore, allow me to affirm how books should not have the option of being banned to avoid predicaments likewise. In the end, I find books to be a valuable source of information and beliefs that cannot, and should not, be bound by the chains of selfishness. However, a breakthrough was reached when Jonas Salk managed to developed the first vaccine, which he brought to the public in 1955 after testing the drug on himself, family, and others. Salk developed a killed virus vaccine through tissue culture methods discovered by the scientist John Enders. Unfortunately, Salk s vaccine was not the cure that the scientific community, and the world, had hoped for, as the results of the vaccine took a critical turn for the worse shortly after release. According to Naomi Rogers, Cutter Laboratories, one of the original mass producers of Salk s polio vaccine, released many faulty vaccines which resulted in greatly diminishing Salk s reputation: Both Salk s and the Foundation s reputations were briefly tarnished by what became termed the Cutter incident. Within fifteen days of Francis s April 1955 report, the Foundation s worst fears seemed to be realized when cases of paralysis were reported among children who had received the vaccine. After federal officials from the Communicable Disease Center established that these cases were the result of vaccination from a batch prepared by Cutter Laboratories of Berkeley, California, Surgeon General Leonard Scheele halted the vaccination program for a week. We as humans are irrelevant specks in the vast universe that go about our repetitive lives for no apparent reason. At the end of the day, it makes no difference how much good or bad we do in the world. This is the ignorant view of the world that fails to see the perfect harmony in which we all live our lives. The redundant cycles that we try so hard to get away from are part of our overarching connectedness as humans. As parts of a whole, all of us have a role to play in making our lives better for ourselves and others. Our role is the very meaning of life, and we should embrace it wholeheartedly. The novel Siddhartha by Hermann Hesse stresses this cyclical unification through various circular constructions throughout Siddhartha s life. Siddhartha had to deal with many individual stages of his life that seemed pointless. These cycles almost drove him to the point of suicide, but he was saved by the river which acted as a symbol for his entire life, as a united whole. This was the gateway to his attainment of enlightenment, allowing him to feel closer to everyone around him. Siddhartha began as an affluent Brahmin s son, coveted by all close to him. These funds are important to shareholders of listed and private companies and they are particularly important to the stock market which is dominated by large institutional investors. This essay discusses the idea of pension funds and the pension crises. It defines the issues of pension funds, talks about the various pensions, categorizes them, and discusses the pension crisis and its implications to the US in particular and to the world in general. There are an estimated five to six million wild boars in the United States with an estimated one million in Florida alone. Spreading rapidly with no intention of slowing down, these wild boars are causing devastation to the native environment throughout the United States with their destructive habits. The US government has precautions put into place to try and control aspects of the boar population, but they re negating it with regulations that are benefiting the boars rather than the general population and native species. There are measures that need to be put into place in order to control the wild boar population and the destruction that comes with them. The native Flora and Fauna of the United States is being threatened by numerous invasive species, one of which is considered to be the most destructive. The wild boar is known to dwell in 35 states and is costing the US an estimated $1.5 billion each year in damages. Eating almost everything it sets its eyes on, boars dig up anything it desires to eat in a process called rooting. When a wild boar does a rooting behavior to dig up food it destabilizes the soil surface which leads to surface erosion. The surface erosion removes the top layer of soil that is responsible for having the richest organic matter leading to the soil losing nutrients needed to support plant life. Wild board also feed on a large quantity of native vegetation leaving the native plants not enough time to fully recover before being trampled over again by the damaging heathens. Males also tusks small trees removing the bark layer on an area of the tree in order to mark their territory and display their dominance. This tusking behavior causing serious harm to trees and has the potential to kill the tree. There is a phloem layer under the bark of a tree that comes up when boars do their tusking behavior. He was an intelligent and open person in a way that he was able to display his emotions in his work, with others being able to understand it fully. He worked with an abundance of mediums, making him a well experienced artist and up to date, making his work very interesting and diverse. The focal point of this work is the two voluptuous female figures in the center of the bottom half of the canvas. The women appear to be gentle lovers, gazing each into the others eyes; their expressions are soft and loving, and their bodies relaxed. Their lightly toned skin colored with a subtle pink flush along with their curvy bodies make the figures look and feel soft, beckons the viewer to reach out to touch them. Both natural and human created events, shape the world and create strong relationships between the environment and society. Human geography and development studies are two fields seeking to analyse these interrelationships and answer key questions about major issues in the world such as poverty, inequality and conflict. Human geography is largely about studying the spatial aspects of relationships between people and society whereas development studies focusses more on the way societies function, focussing on issues such as poverty and inequality as well as the way in which developing nations function compared to developed nations. Through examples of poverty and inequality this essay will explain the ways in which development studies and human geography overlap and the ways in which they are different in their analyses. Human geography is defined as The study of interrelationships between people, places and environment and how these vary spatially and temporally across and between locations (Castree, Kitchin and Rogers, 2013). It looks at how society shapes the environment and vice versa. • 34. A Brief Look at Mary Magdalene As an influential biblical figure, Mary Magdalene has been the subject of numerous works of art. She has been represented in a variety of tropes and styles; which were subject to the religious, political, and social standards of the time. Giacomo Galli s Saint Mary Magdalene was painted in the early seventeenth century in Italy, at the beginning of the Baroque era. By contorting Magdalene s body, bathing her in light and encompassing her in darkness, Galli was able to present the viewer with an image representative of her divided identity. Galli likely chose to paint the Magdalene because she was one of the most popular saints in Baroque Italy. As Susan Haskins (author of Mary Magdalen: Myth and Metaphor) notes, from the thirteenth century, the penitent Magdalene became the most popular image of the saint in Italy, as the perfect example of a reformed sinner. Magdalene s ______ demonstrated a realistic path of personal improvement. Her reputation, at the time, revolved around her supposed past as a prostitute. Historically, this meant that she was cured of a physical ailment and not of prostitution. However, as it was believed that Magdalene s transformation from prostitute to apostle made her accessible to the Catholic community, the church exemplified this notion in order to make Magdalene a suitable role model for repentance. Low funded school means that teachers will get laid off, which will increase class size, increase the burden on the teacher, and after school programs will be minimized. • 36. The Negative Factors Of People With Disability In The 20th... The thing about living with any disability is that you adapt; you do what works for you . Stella Young Disability is a defined as a physical or mental condition that restrain someone s movements, senses, or activities. Before the twentieth century, the negative attitude towards a person with disability were not healthy, sickening, and abnormal. For many centuries, society viewed people with disability an incompetent, not being able to help themselves. They also viewed disability as a reminder of death. In the book the psychological and social impact by Marini, I., Stebnicki, M. A. (2012) on mental illness the author elaborates on how society viewed disability as a reminder of death. The author mentioned that the loss of body part or physical function constitutes the death of a part, the anxiety associated with death is rekindled at the sight of a person with disability, and that disability groups are a reminder of our mortality. Things took a turned for a changed though, in the 20th century there have been multiple changes on how society views a person with a disability. People with disability in the 20th century are more respected and are better accommodated prior to the 20th century. Despite the positive attitude towards people with disability, there are many disability related factors that still influences some negative responses to disability. Level of severity, degree of visibility, and the degree of cosmetic, are some of the disability related factors that influences response to disability. When someone have a disability, the level of severity plays an enormous role on how the person is viewed. The more severe a disability is, the more negatively it is perceived. Marini, I., Stebnicki, M. A. (2012). Many people can in fact agree to this statement. A person that have been diagnosed with a severe disability, often will feel like a burden to society, peers and even family. The reason behind this is because with a severe disability, the person that acquired the disability might not be able take care of themselves, physically or financially. Also, they might not be able to provide for their family the way they use to before acquiring the disability. A person that have acquired a severe disability might ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The group that Nick is in is known as the advanced students in the class, and they get spelling words that are in the 3rd grade curriculum. One thing that I found interesting was that Nick would actually sound out the word while writing it. The words that he recognized with automaticity would be jotted down immediately with accuracy. The Environmental Impact Of Electric Vehicles Over the last several years, electric vehicles and hybrid electric gasoline vehicles have been gaining popularity as a more environmentally friendly transportation option. Experts agree that the recent innovations in technology are impressive, but some question the veracity of the statements made about emissions and environmental impact of electric cars and hybrids. Currently, electric vehicles are expensive to produce and create more emissions than gasoline vehicles during the manufacturing process. However, over the entire life of the car electric vehicles claim to have a lesser effect on the environment than gasoline cars. If true, then it is possible that greenhouse gas pollution and global warming could be significantly reduced over time. As the United States continues to develop more effective ways to generate and store renewable energy, electric cars will become more significant. There have been numerous studies done on the effect of electric cars on the environment, but not all of them agree. The Great Schism Analysis Amelia Kasgorgis Ms. Argue Mission March, 10 2015 The Great Schism The Great Schism of 1378 was caused when the papal court, which was based in Rome, elected an Italian Pope named Pope Urban VI. The French cardinals refused to accept the Italian Pope so they announced that his election was invalid and elected a new Pope, Pope Clement VII. Urban VI began to show absence in self control when he criticized the cardinals for their luxury and laziness and when he revealed his plan of reforming the Church. Urban VI s violent and abusive treatment towards the cardinals caused them to fear for their lives and believe he was mentally ill; this lead to the turn against the cardinals to abandon Rome. At Anagni on August 2 the dissidents published a manifesto in which they pronounced his election null and void, on the ground that pressure from the Romans had made a free election impossible (Great Western Schism). It s obvious we live in a divisive time. But lately I ve started to wonder if we live in an oversimplified one as well. I wonder if our heightened emotions have mistakenly led us to believe things were much more straightforward then they are. We feel so passionately about so much. Who see the humanity in those who take the same positions we do, and in those who are bitterly opposed. Who believe to simplify the cause is to undermine the cause. And that to reduce the issues to the lowest common denominator is to reduce the personhood of those who don t agree with us. We are the new revolutionaries who know that nothing is as simple as it appears, that things are more murky than maybe either side feels comfortable admitting, and that the act of not belonging anywhere is in and of itself belonging and taking a stand somewhere. This too takes courage, self reflection, and conviction. We are not copping out, selling out, or flaking out. From studying for exams to getting my drivers license, procrastination always took over my responsibilities. While it was a terrible habit to have, I was able to bounce back from my stupid mistakes back in high school. This, unfortunately, was not the same story in college. In my first quarter at UCSB, I vowed to change my nasty habits of procrastinating on all my responsibilities. Throughout the course of the quarter, I was doing fairly fine; getting decent grades on exams, doing my homework, and even finishing readings before they were due. While I was doing better than I expected, it was primarily due to the fact that I was fairly dedicated to my work, and not that I was managing my time any better than I did in high school. He asserts that God s omnipotence means that God does not have the power to do anything but God does have power to do anything that is consistent with his nature. God has the power to do all that is intrinsically possible, not to do the intrinsically impossible. We may attribute miracles to him, but not nonsense. Lewis then suggests that not even God s omnipotence could create men with free wills without at the same time creating a relatively independent and unavoidable nature. (Paine) Mr. Burke is so little acquainted with constituent principles of government, that he confounds democracy and representation together. Representation was a thing unknown in the ...
