The Second Great Awakening Essay
In the 1830 s, 1840 s, and beyond, There is a Second Great Awakening. The Second Great Awakening
had a decided impact on American society. In the following I will describe what the Great Awakening
was and how it changed life in America.
In essence, the Great Awakening was a religious awakening. It started in the South. Tent camps were
set up that revolve around high spirited meetings that would last for days. These camp meetings were
highly emotional and multitudes of people were filled with the Spirit of God. These meeting, were
sponsored mainly by Methodist, Baptist, and Presbyterians, and met social needs as well as spiritual
needs on the frontier. Since it was hard for the Baptist and Methodist to sustain local churches, ...

This reform was an attempt to defend Calvinism, (predestination) views against the new liberal ideas
created by the Enlightens views. .Threatened by the spread of Unitarian ideas, a younger generation
attempted to reshape New England Puritanism.
The first great practitioner of the new evangelical Calvinism was Lyman Beecher. Beecher led
thousands to accept their sinfulness and surrender to God.
Beecher had to confront the new and more radical revivalism in Western New York which was led by
Charles G. Finney. Finney challenged the Calvinist doctrines. He appealed to emotion instead of
reason. Finney wanted people to feel the power of Jesus. He had adopted an extreme view that said
Christians could be totally free of sin or be as perfect as their Father in Heaven. During Finney s
revivals, it was not uncommon for people to fall to the floor in fits of excitement. Finney left behind
him strong and active churches. Eastern opposition gradually weakened.
During The Second Awakening new religious views were popping up everywhere. The Unitarians
believed that the all powerful, mysterious God was actually a Deity who was the benevolent master
architect of a rational universe. Mormonism also began. Mormonism, also known as the latter Day
Saints, believed that Christ would appear in the New World and that the children of Levi were present
in the New World.
With these new religious ideas

Essay Biological Explanations of Criminal Behaviour
Crime theories are still in a development stage; it is an evolutionary process that continues to this day.
Crime is still a complex and misunderstood phenomenon with no concrete evidence when it comes to
human behavior. Throughout time there have been endless amounts of crime theories, few of which
revolve around biological explanations. We have Cesare Lombroso and the Positive School who
thought that criminals were genetically different from the rest of the general population, that they were
biologically aggressive, had criminal traits and/or born as criminals. There is also William Sheldon s
theory of body types, called the somatotype theory, that argued the mesomorph body type to be the
most prone to commit crime or deviant behavior. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Sheldon created the idea of the three different body types and concluded mesomorphs, the more
muscular and athletic body type, is more prone to commit crime and deviant behavior. Although he
did not take into consideration that many prisoners lift weights while in prison and that the more
muscular individuals usually win the fight (Cartwright, 2012). The twin adoption studies were used by
behavioral geneticists to identify genetic and environmental influences underlying human behavioral
and physical variations. Although there were many detractors of the twin adoption studies themselves
and their results. There were troubles finding subjects which lead to a reduced power of result and
inconsistency of the methods used for the operation. In contemporary biological explanations there are
still works appearing and being developed, such as, the role of DNA, nutrition, body chemistry and
ecological factors in human behavior (Gado, 2004). Most of these are either still being developed, like
DNA, or were discredited along with the works of Lombroso, like nutrition. Although biological
explanations may not have made a momentous improvement since the 18th century, arguments within
biological explanations have expanded. There are many theories that argue if human behavior is
predetermined at birth, or learned by influences. Nature versus nurture,

Pros And Cons Of Enlightened Absolutism
Enlightened Absolutism A number of rulers in 18th century Germany began enacting enlightened
reforms of their own. Including increased religious tolerance, an abolition of torture and increased
freedom of the press. Whether these reforms were a result of the increased pressure on German rulers
from the bourgeoisie to introduce enlightened policies, or whether they were simply the result of the
Royals being influenced themselves by enlightened thinkers remains unclear. However, what is clear
is that even these enlightened despots continued to harbour a belief in their own divine right to rule
(Coy, 2011). Their measures to implement enlightened reforms were often only carried out with one
hand, while the other continued to adopt a more conservative ... Show more content on

A close friend of Voltaire, during his rule Prussia became a hub for the great minds of the time and his
palace in Potsdam hosted ballet and operas. As a young man he had a keen interest in culture and
wrote poetry and prose in French, he once wrote that Machiavelli s principles of remorseless
pragmatism were no longer suitable in the much gentler enlightened age. However, just one year later
he found himself on the throne of Prussia and proceeded to ruthlessly wage wars and exploit
diplomatic opportunities with the aim of building Prussia into a great power. He provoked the war of
Austrian Succession by invading the province of Silesia, which he subsequently won, doubling the
Prussian population and cementing Prussia s place as the greatest of the German states. After the end
of the war of Austrian Succession, Friedrich the Great began to embrace more enlightened ideas, he
was markedly more tolerant in matters of religion allowing the citizens of Prussia to practice as they
wished and he heavily promoted education reform and published the findings of many scholars (Gates,
no date). Despite his demonstrations of, and indeed conviction for, enlightenment the reign of
Friedrich the Great was most memorable for his demonstrations of power and military prowess

Essay on 1980s
This report is to inform you on the decade of the 1980s. People s jobs, income, ideas, opinions
changed so much from 1980 to 1989.
Fewer Americans belonged to labor unions in the 1980s. In 1980 there were nearly 21 million union
members; that number had declined to 17 million by 1985. The most important aspect of a job for the
majority of Americans was a feeling of accomplishment, beating out high pay by a better than 2 to 1
margin. In the mid Eighties, 88% of Americans said they were satisfied with their jobs. In spite of this,
less than 40% expected to remain in their current job for more than five years. Most Americans didn t
think it would be difficult to get another job. This indicated general optimism about the economy and

This is the first time this had happened in modern times. Interracial marriages accounted for only
1.3% of the total in 1982. Three fourths of all first marriages occurred in a religious setting the other
third were done by eloping. A 1983 survey of 100,000 adults showed that 48% of married men and
38% of married women had affairs. This had increased the rate of divorce.
In 1984, some level of government employed 18 million Americans. The federal government
employed 2.9 million. The Postal Service employed nearly 750,000 people this year. During this time,
the average household spent $21,788 a year, paying for taxes, mortgage or rent, car payments, food,
and clothing.
A 1984 study showed that 53% of 18 year old girls were having sex. A similar study showed that 66%
of 18 year old boys were doing to the same. Less than half of both boys and girls used any protection.
This caused 4 out of 10 teenage girls to become pregnant before they were 20. Most young girls were
single mothers between the ages 18 29.To add to this, nearly half of the 892,000 teenage pregnancies
ended in abortion. Teenagers with poor school grades were more likely to be sexually experienced,
while those with good grades were less likely.
In the Eighties, kids were not in very good physical condition. Only 2% of 18 million kids passed the
Presidential Physical Fitness test in 1984. Only about one in three met the Amateur Athletic Union s

When Is Homework Beneficial
Is Homework Beneficial? Imagine having a full time job where you did not get paid, could not quit,
and have at least a few hours of paperwork to complete each night. This is what students go through
everyday with homework. Homework is assignments sent home from school for students of all ages to
finish by a certain due date, for a grade. In the past decade, controversies over the amount of work
kids and teens are given has lead many to study the benefits of homework to see if the work teachers
assign is actually helping students academically and improving test scores. It has grown to an extreme
amount, prevents kids and teens from getting the things they need in life, gets in the way of a good

As stated by an online source, Parents worry their children may not get into a good college without a
rigorous amount of work ( Introduction to Do Students Have Too Much Homework?: At Issue ).
Younger children particularly do not yet have the skills to manage and complete their school work on
their own, so parents have to take time out of their schedules to help their kids do the work. Not only
that, but routine family meals and quality time is often impossible to fit in, especially when there is
more than one in the family that has homework. Ponte mentions, some argue that homework teaches
kids responsibility and organizational skills valuable for success (Ponte). In actuality, however, the
only thing homework really tests students on is how good they are at organizing their time by
sacrificing what they need to allow time for schoolwork. Children should instead learn responsibility
from things like chores. Most parents do not require their kids to stay up even later after their
homework to do laundry, which they will definitely need to be able to do in life. Less homework
leaves more time for enforcing pertinent responsibilities and practicing life

Analysis Of The Poem Sahgal
Sahgal aptly suggests her faith and hope through the symbolic limbless beggar. The beggar, who looks
a great bone arch, more insect than animal , a monster ant with eyes glaring with intelligence (13) is
the reality many shudder to face. He is the living evidence of man s inhumanity to man as he asserts
his rights, his hands are chopped off by his land lord and he gets no redress from the political leaders
who are all land lords at heart. The mutilation does not intimidate his spirit and he remains a fearless
fighter for freedom. When Nishi s servants try to drag him to the vasectomy camp, he thrashes out,
handless and crippled though, and flings himself out of their reach. Ironically, Rose, who warms him

There are, still a few occasions when the reader is force fed with facts. For instance, Sonali s
grandfather s account of his mother s murder in the name of Sati running to nearly twenty pages (119
to 136) sounds more like a scholarly dissertation on a subject of sociological importance rather than an
authentic rendering of a personal tragedy. The long quotations from the Bombay courier or the List of
Hindoo Widows immolated no doubt establish the veracity of the information given about Sati but the
episode loses a degree of its impetus and ceases to grip the reader. The novel Rich Like Us, shows that
the Sahgal has grown enormously both in her awareness of the manifestation of human relationship,
and sophistication of the presentation of her thematic concerns. In this novel, Sahgal copes effectively
with the portrayal of what is wrong with the contemporary society, with the delineation of the moral
dilemmas as well as with the aesthetic difficulties of conveying a positive message of action in the
fictional format. What Nayantara Sahgal does in Rich Like Us is to highlight the need for intellectual
and practical action to bring about efficacious changes in the contemporary society. In this age of ours,
where in the midst of hectic activity, technical turmoil and jet travel the basic passivity of men
prevails Rich Like Us, an earnest effort to arouse people to induce them to participate emotionally and

Truth about Autonomous Cars Vehicles that drive themselves is a concept that is often thought about
in futuristic movies or science fiction novels. Throughout, history mankind has been fascinated with
robots and cars that could work without humans. Advanced technology is getting closer to making
these futuristic ideas the real thing. Living in an advanced technological time would society be ready
for this to happen and how far away is this from becoming a reality? One of the biggest challenges
facing autonomous cars is legal issues. As of right now computer technology and artificial intelligence
face numerous legal battles. Most people have heard of the technology that Google is creating in an
attempt to make a driver less car. As the technology gets more attention in the news Google s
driverless car has become a very opinionated and sensitive topic. People often ask questions like What
if Google s car hit someone? Who would be at fault for the accident Google or the owner of the car?
These questions are currently being debated at the state and federal levels. As of right now states are
actively seeking to regulate autonomous cars much more than the federal government is. Currently
only California, Florida, Nevada and the District of Columbia have successfully created

A Lab Report On Plant Growth And Growth
Background:
For my lab report we were given 4 plants to grow. The plants chosen were corn, sorghum, cotton and
radish.Corn and sorghum are monocots and cotton and radish are dicots.
Corn:
Corn is in the grass family known as poaceae
sorghum: sorghum is in the grass family known as poaceae
cotton: cotton is in the mallow family known as the Malvaceae. There are many types of cotton
radish: radish is in the mustard family known as Brassicaceae
Introduction:
For this lab you and your partner were to plant 4 different crops (corn, cotton, sorghum, and a flower
or vegetable of your choice). Radish was the fourth crop chosen to grow. The experiment was to see
the difference in growing stages in all four of these plants in a 10 week period. The height and
growing stage for each plant and seed was to be recorded. This lab is important because it gives the
students the ability to gain hands on experience on growing plants and being able to identify their
structures. Understanding what a plant needs such as: water, soil, fertilizer, and proper temperature,
would allow you to grasp the idea of plant growth and development. Due to us being in south Texas,
the temperature is not always suitable for growing plants. I assumed that the temperatures would be
rather high therefore allowing our plants to grow at a decently fast pace. I believe the radishes would
be the first plants to produce its fruit, then cotton, sorghum, and corn. I also believe that corn would be
the tallest

The Lion King Film Analysis
The social implications children s animated movies portray is a strong example as to why there are
strong societal standards around gender, sexuality, race, and class. Most children s films are
completely heterosexual and the majority of children s films portray male characters of more
importance than female characters. Children s film also portray characters of color to be in a lower
class, to be of less importance, and are even portrayed as villains. These social implications influence
the ideas that male dominance, heterosexual dominance, and white dominance make up individuals
who are of more importance in society. Both the animated movies Shark Tale and The Lion King show
extreme measures of racism, sexism, and how upper class ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In one sense, Oscar can be viewed as privileged due to his gender but because he is black and in a
lower class, he still is not a member in society that s viewed as being a part of the top of the reef.
Oscar s gender does give him an advantage but his race and class changes the extent of his privilege in
his process to try and make it to the top of the reef. This is an example of the way that being
intersectionally marginalized can affect a person s entire life style.
The Lion King and Shark Tale both have characters that are portrayed as both black and lower class.
In The Lion King, the hyenas, the villains of the movie, are portrayed as black and the actors used for
the characters are all black as well. The hyenas live in the Elephant Graveyard, which is clearly
portrayed as the inferior location in the film. It s portrayed in a dark, dirty, and poor manner in
comparison to Pride Rock, which would be considered the higher class area in the film. The
individuals that live in Pride Rock, the higher class area, also discriminate and talk very badly about
the Elephant Graveyard and those living there, implying elitism within those who are higher class. The
animals in Pride Rock specifically make it clear that only individuals that live in Pride Rock are to be
leaders of the kingdom. This also portrays elitism within the upper

Connelly s The Echo Park is the twelfth book in the police procedural series featuring Los Angeles

the methodology in the police department and the position of the investigator as an official functioning

Comparison Between Call Of Duty And Minecraft
Introduction I like to play video games because it gives me a rush when you do something right or

Britain s Victory Of The Falklands War
Britain s victory in the Falklands War undoubtedly contributed to the Conservative Party s election
victory in 1983. However, it should not be considered essential to this triumph. Historians such as
Helmut Norpoth have suggested that the Falklands factor significantly increased the popularity of the
Thatcher administration and resulted in her re election. Dennis Kavanagh noted the effect on the war
on Margaret Thatcher s image and emphasised the importance of this during the election campaign.
Nevertheless, the Conservative success in 1983 must be attributed primarily to the pre war
circumstances including the poor public perception of the Labour Party following their tenure in office
prior to 1979 and Thatcher s social and economic policies. The Conservative victory was not down to
a singular event, but a combination of events that all affected her image and her perception by the
British electorate. Had Labour been a stronger opponent, the Conservatives may not have won in
1983. The most valid conclusion drawn is that of Peter Riddell; the 1983 election was a result of
opposition weaknesses and the dividing role of the Alliance rather than the Falklands factor.
The Falklands conflict was, in the opinion of both Thatcher and many historians believed to be a key
reason for Thatcher s re election. The fact that the Conservatives had a jump in support of 11 per cent
between February and July 1982 showed that the conflict was beneficial to the party, despite initial

the Nazi regime during World War 2. Of the millions of Jewish people that lost their lives there were
many that did resist and did escape the Nazism and Nazi racial policy that was conducted on the
Jewish lives throughout the war. There were different ways the Jews did resist through different
dimensions of wellbeing, through uprising in the ghettos and camps in a stretch to revolting against
their German captivators whilst secretly keeping their spiritual and religious beliefs as something that
the Nazis could never physically take from them. The Jews showed resistance to German control also
by escaping the camps, and creating Armies and Partisan Groups to fight back. In the findings I was
able to establish an understanding of the different ways during the war the Jews managed to create
upheaval and resist German authority and the fact that a percentage were able to resist.
Uprising in the Ghetto

control for the German army to win the war. In a bid to win the war, Germany captured and forced

Divorce In New York
The Basics of Getting a Divorce in New York
The laws pertaining to getting a divorce in New York apply to everyone who meets the residency
requirement, including same sex couples who married in New York or married legally in another state.
The simplest grounds for divorce according to Tully Rinckey are the condition in which the couple has
lived apart for at least one year with a separation agreement. Other grounds include cruel and inhuman
treatment, abandonment of one spouse by the other for more than one year, one spouse being
imprisoned for more than three years and adultery.

Who Gets Custody of the Child?
Whatever is in the best interests of the child is the number one priority of New York divorce law when
it comes to child custody. Rinckey says the goal is to provide the child with the most stable
environment possible, which means one or both parents may be awarded custody. There are many
things to consider before making this judgement such as the child s age, emotional attachment to one
parent, physical and mental health and each parent s lifestyle including the ability to provide food,
shelter, medical care and clothing. Parents may submit a child custody plan to the court if they both
agree on it.

Themes Of Poem In Born A Crime By Trevor Noah
In Born A Crime, Trevor Noah [uses] a narrative writing style and a lighthearted tone when [retelling]
the tangled racism integrated in his childhood experience. The book progresses in a mostly linear
fashion, beginning with a childhood anecdote and his unlawful birth, and ending with the horrifying
attempted murder of his mother. In the second chapter, Noah explains that as a half white, half black
child who violated any number of laws, statutes, and regulations I was born a crime. Not only does the
statement exploit the personal hatred inflicted upon Noah for simply existing, but also exposes the
effect of racism on innocence. As the book progresses, Noah shares specific anecdotes and
experiences to project to the reader the impact of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Because life in South Africa differs so drastically from life in America, understanding the other side s
perspective becomes challenging. In the interest of making the South African concepts
understandable, Noah makes connections to Western World ideas such as Planet of the Apes and
Hollywood and includes how people would say [it] in America for clarity (120 121). Consequently,
the book forms a bridge between South African and American culture to demonstrate that many of the
world s problems are one in the same. For example, at one point in the book, Noah gets pulled over,
and when asked if he knows why, Noah correctly responds, Because you re a policeman and I m a
black person? (229). Since Americans have only seen Noah as a successful comedian, the book allows
them to understand the hardships, struggles, and efforts that shaped him. In order to successfully
connect with such a distant audience, Noah takes advantage of both the reader s logic and emotions.
First, Noah uses rationale to explain the existence of social problems among people of color. He coins
the term the black tax to point out that so many black families spend all of their time trying to fix the
problems of the past (66). Backed with historical facts about apartheid, Noah s explanation of the
social injustices helps the audience understand the concept of privilege. Moreover, Noah appeals to
the reader s emotions by providing vivid narrations of such injustices. While Noah s mother took him
to ice rinks and drive ins and suburbs people within their community thought she was crazy because
those were the things of white people (

The And Its Impact On The Future
The man, a little being compared to the Universe, often feels threatened by wars, comets, natural
phenomena and all those dates that contain repeating numbers that seem to bring the end of the world,
but truly the end comes? To this day, many predictions about the end of the world have emerged, but
none has come true, that is why it has always existed and will probably continue to exist that doubt
about what will happen to the world in the future. The end has been predicted by scientists, ancient
civilizations, different religions, and many others. For example, Nostradamus was one of the most
famous scientists that wrote many prophecies and events about the future, his predictions are known
worldwide and have impacted societies; as him, there are other scientists such as Isaac Newton,
Stephen Hawking, and Richard Noone. Moreover, the Mayans, an ancient civilization, known as one
of the most advanced civilizations in the field of mathematics, astronomy, physics and arts; they are
also known for predicting that the world would end of December 21, 2012. Perhaps, this was one of
the most famous prophecies in recent times. Also, different religions such as the Jehovah s Witnesses
has predicted many times the end of the world. The impact of this topic is very well known, many
people have been influenced greatly. Even Hollywood have been carried away by those predictions
and theories, creating movies such as The day after tomorrow or 2012 , where they show what would

Descriptive Essay On Hunting
INTRO: I never thought I would feel so awful after pulling that trigger and watching that innocent
animal give it s life to me. I was only ten years old and my life was certainly impacted forever.
Nowadays, many people think that pulling the trigger of a gun is not hard at all. In reality, it might be
pretty easy. It is the aftermath on the other hand that will leave an internal scar, changing a person
forever. On my first deer hunt, a young buck stepped out of the dense willow clusters with it s head
down, giving me a shot. Soon I would be faced with the tough decision of taking the life of an
innocent animal. Meanwhile, on my first turkey hunt, there too I would soon be changed forever.
BODY PARAGRAPH #1: It was a cool and crisp evening that nipped at the tips of my toes and
fingers. I could smell the fresh snow from the previous night s dusting that blanketed the landscape
like a pearly white canvas. The sun was about to set and soon I would be out of daylight. That means
no deer this year. Shortly, a buck would come in and I would pull the trigger.
I perched myself up in a tree stand overlooking a massive river valley. This is the place where deer
come down and across in order to get to the fields for feeding. The towering tree stand soared over
many small trees. I glanced over the railing, looking down at the snowy forest floor many feet below.
It was a frightening height. Pull your gun up. I ll work my way back around to try and push some deer

The Problem Of Weight Watchers
Introduction and Problem Statement
Weight Watchers has faced a number of issues in the past several years, many of which are highlighted
in the case study for this assignment. The company was able to reach a financial high point earlier this
decade in 2011 when it recorded a record breaking 1.8 billion in revenues. However, the company s
finances have slowly dwindled ever since then, culminating in losses for seven straight quarters and
low stock prices at the beginning of 2015. The core of the problems it was facing were relatively
straightforward. The weight loss industry was changing, and Weight Watchers was having difficult
changing along with it. Specifically, the company had troubles modernizing its business model to
account for the digital age as represented by increasing online options for weight loss. This fact was
compounded by the reality that there was greater competition, including that from organizations
whose primary business was to capitalize on digital technology to attract customers. Technologies
such as mobile devices, mobile applications, cloud computing, and social media had made
considerable strides in the way that people were monitoring and attempting to lose weight. Weight
Watchers, however, had had only marginal success using these technologies, and faced the undesirable
situation in which its methods were becoming rapidly outdated.

The vision of Weight Watchers has always been fairly basic in nature. The company

How Quebec Affected Canada
Quebec has made mistakes like building the Hydro Quebec without the permission of natives on
traditional land and by doing so, Quebec started to believe that if they left Canada in the first place,

though Quebec is in Canada, they are not recognized as well as the English Canadians because they
are the ones who lead/control everything going on in the country no matter how many prominent
people come from Quebec or how many Quebecois soldiers risk their lives at war for Canada. Canada

Trickster-God-Creator
Tricksters appear in the mythology and folklore of many cultures around the world. Although the
power and relative divinity of each Trickster varies from tradition to tradition, Tricksters have
important roles in the creation, development, and sometimes destruction, of each culture. The Coyote
of Native North American traditions is often depicted as assisting the Great Mystery or Great Spirit in
the creating and populating of the world (Leeming). In the Greek myths Hermes is initially a sly infant
who captures a tortoise with his untruths and fashions the first lyre from its shell, but eventually
transitions to a place amongst the Olympic pantheon as the messenger of the gods. In the Norse myths
of the Scandinavian countries, Loki is a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Coyote is sometimes purely self concerned, such as in the Sioux story of Coyote, Iktome, and the
Rock (Leeming 50 2), providing the subject for cautionary morality tales. He is also often the victim
of his own pride, such as his attempt to stay awake by propping open his eyes in order to be the first to
arrive at Spirit Chief s lodge at dawn and receive a new name. Coyote falls asleep anyway, retains his
name, and creates a permanent slant in his eyes (Dove 17 26). At other times, however, Coyote is
selfless and miraculous. In the tale of Montezuma and Coyote in Canoes, from the Papago tradition of
Arizona, after the Great Mystery has made the earth, and people have been made to populate it, led by
Montezuma, Coyote comes to the great leader of men and instructs the chief to build a canoe.
Montezuma doesn t understand why he would need a canoe, but before long a flood of Biblical
magnitude washes away the land, and only Coyote and Montezuma survive to lead the new people the
Great Mystery creates to repopulate (Leeming 110 11). It would seem easier to allow even the chief to
perish in the flood if Coyote really is purely the self important Trickster so often depicted, but he
seems intuitively to know that Montezuma will be a better leader to teach the people all the things
they would need to know to survive (111). Similarly, in the story of Coyote and the Footrace, Coyote
allows his own son to be killed in order to teach the rituals for burial of the dead

My Love Of Theatre
I have been a performer my entire life, and want to continue to impact those around me through
theater. In my life, I have not yet encountered such a raw reflection of human life and emotions. My
love of theater began at a young age, and since then I have seen how the twists and turns of plays and
musicals can deeply impact an audience. My freshman year I actually performed at my school s
brother school and played Celisse in Godspell. My sophomore year I played Mrs. Harcourt in
Anything Goes, my junior year I was the Wardrobe in Beauty and the Beast, and this year I was the
Bird Woman in Mary Poppins. My favorite performances, however, is Spring Sing, a student run
production where classes compete for bragging rights. I have been an actor in Spring Sing since my
freshman year and my class hopes to win this year!
Being able to express myself through song, acting, and dance is a form of meditation for me. It is a
time where I am able to completely forget about my own anxieties and focus on the worries of the
character. Roles are static until you make them come alive, and that is where there is room for creative
expression.
My greatest skill is knowing how to improvise on and off stage. Being able to improvise is one of the
most important skills an actor can learn. I have been in improv club since my freshman year of high
school, and truly believe that it has helped me with my communication skills and self confidence.

Nature Vs. Nurture Argumentative Analysis
Nature versus Nurture debate
Nature versus nurture is controversial debate that has been ongoing for several years about whether
behaviors are caused by inherited traits or are they influenced by the environment. When Genie the
wild child was found, she represented a tabula rasa blank state of learning due to the limited basic
skills she had, and incapability to speak. Hence, psychologists examined the nature versus nurture
argument through Genie. The early stages of growth are fundamentally crucial for children because
they need human contact, affection, and interaction to fully develop a sense of self and be fully
integrated into society. The absence of proper socialization during those critical periods caused Genie
to develop differently than the rest.
Genie was a victim of severe abuse and neglect by her father, Clark Wiley, she was discovered at the
age of 13 in her family s home, she was strapped down to her potty chair and isolated in a dark
bedroom for the first years of her life (McMahan, 2014). Genie walked in an inhuman way, she couldn

with children in school, explore their surroundings, if there is too much guilt in the children s action,

children at this stage will learn to read, write, and to do sums (McLeod, 2008). If this stage is not
encouraged by formal agents of socialization, then the child will begin to feel inferior, therefore he/she

Five Forces Analysis Of Nestle
Industry Environment Five Forces I. Threat of New Entrants Moderately High The food processing
industry is very large and competitive; it is not uncommon for firms within the industry to do quite
well. As a result, many companies enter into the market every year in an attempt to gain a portion of
the profitable market. Luckily for Nestlé, the company has been around for decades and boasts a long
history of quality products and consumer satisfaction, which has allowed the company to obtain a
considerable share of the market. It is demonstrated in accelerated investment activity in the 2000 s
which indicates long term commitment in markets where Nestle operates, and construction of 16
factories from 1993 2006 in China to meet consumer demand. As a result, new entrants into the
industry must attempt to seize a portion of Nestlé s market share in order to survive. However, over
the years, new entrants with healthier alternatives have threatened the status quo in markets like Asia,
Africa and the United States. Economies of Scale Nestle enjoys massive economies of scale because
of its size. Nestle has increased production while maintaining low cost through fewer factories. This
strategy has positively contributed to Nestle working capital. This advantage of economies of scale is
made possible because of Nestle s unmatched number of factories around the world. The Swiss giants

Earl Warren s Due Process Model

ushering in an era of increased sensitivity to the rights of the accused.
Chief Justice Earl Warren used the Due Process Model in order to make his decisions on these very

Criticism Of Piecemeal Social Engineering
the state from the ground up. It is radical. Piecemeal social engineering, however, does not have the
same idealized society as the end point, or at least, sees it as something in the far distance. Piecemeal
is far less risky, for several reasons that Popper points out in his critique. Firstly, because piecemeal
social engineering looks at solving the most urgent evils of society, and not just trying to get rid of all
of them, with the goal of creating a heaven on earth, it is a method that can be applied to at any
moment (Popper 148). Small changes that improve happiness is much easier to do than trying to fully
eliminate suffering. An example of this type of improvement would be call centers for parents with
sick children. This would allow the parents to call and get support from a registered nurse or doctor,
without having to wait in long lines at the hospital, or adding to those long lines. Piecemeal is about
solving issues that are occurring right now, and by doing that, is bettering society. This also makes this
method faster that utopian, which takes generations for the blueprint to be seen though, instead of
smaller aspects being fixed right away. There are many other issues that are connected to the long
timeframe of utopian social engineering takes. Popper points out that making a heaven on earth is not
something that can be done in one or more generations. The leader who starts the plan, will not be the
same one there when the state finally reaches the final

The Death Penalty Is The Punishment Of Execution
The death penalty is the punishment of execution, administered to someone legally convicted of a
capital crime (law.cornell.edu, 2015). The first Congress of the United States authorized the federal
death penalty on June 25, 1790 (deathpenalty.org, 2011). The death penalty can also be referred to as
capital punishment, however capital punishment also includes a sentence to life in prison, as opposed
to strictly executions. A convict can be sentenced to death by various methods including lethal
injection, electrocution, gas chamber, firing squad, and hanging. After the death penalty was
established, many debates have arisen arguing that these methods violate several of the United States
Amendments. Select cases have been accused of violating the Sixth, Eighth, and Fourteenth
Amendments. It is important to note that the judiciary goes through a series of processes prior to
deciding a sentence for a capital crime. Many factors influencing the verdict include proportional
analysis, individualized sentencing, method of execution, and classes of people not eligible of the
death penalty. This paper will discuss brief descriptions of the methods used for executions,
economical issues, the Supreme Court s opinion regarding the death penalty, as well as important
factors that make up the proportional analysis, individual sentencing process, method used, and

Central Land Issues Of The United States
Central Land Issues
In the United States, Long Island is one of the most densely populated regions where land is a hot
commodity. The population as of 2014 was over 7.8 million. As a result, of many people living in a
fixed area a large amount of waste starts to develop. Waste is being left behind after many human
activities. If nonbiodegradable products are not disposed of properly; the vast population growth is
forcing the further building of homes and roads which is encroaching upon natural habitats.
Since humans are moving into the natural habitats plant species are dwindling in numbers. Which
alters the habitats for which birds relied on for a camouflaged and protected home? Migratory birds
are also moving to other areas due to the land pollution. Human waste, cigarette butts, snack wrappers,
and beverage containers are all contributing to the growing land pollution.
Other pollution sources include chemical plants, coal fired power stations, oil refineries, nuclear waste
disposal activity, large animal farms, plastic factories, and metal production factories. The soil
becomes contaminated by many chemicals and pathogens; this passes on to humans through direct
contact via food and water. Overuse of pesticides and chemical fertilizers causes toxins to enter the
food chain.
There are critical environmental issues that result from land pollution. People live and work in areas
where land waste is dumped. Some toxic chemicals coming from waste causes deformities and are

Presentation In The Military
Presentations can be unforgettable. They cause us to envision possibilities and contemplate the future.
Unfortunately they can also be unforgettable in how they make us suffer. They can be tedious. Both
examples were apparent during my 24 year career in the military.
Bovee and Thill state, Planning oral presentations are much like planning any other business message:
You analyze the situation, gather information, select the right medium, and organize the information
(p.434). Presentations in my organization accomplish this and other times don t. Usually one can tell
when this has been done and when it hasn t. Several are effective and others aren t.
There are basic reasons why specific presentations capture attention and certain don t. One of the
biggest problems with presentations in our workplace is, redundancy. They pound the same
information repeatedly. There have been presentations delivered, where person decided that a word or
point needed to change that would create little to no difference in the presentation; however, we would
be required to view another presentation of the same material, occasionally less than a month after
having it presented. This goes against one of Bovee and Thills purpose for a message, Will anything

The Pros And Cons Of Performance-Based Budgeting
Budgeting is a process to plan budget which is used to describe fiscal expectation, expenditure and
future planning of an individual, organization or government within a given period of time (Olawale,
et al. 2012). Up until now, there are many methods of budgeting for governments such as traditional
(line item) budgeting, zero based budgeting, and performance based budgeting. Due to its simplicity,
the traditional budgeting which listed groups of expenditure using last year s data such as office
supplies, salary, electricity bill and used incremental approach on them (Navin, 2003) has become the
most popular one in many countries. However, many people criticize this budgeting method because
many believe that this budgeting method is ineffective and inefficient . As a result, since 1990s, many
countries have reformed their budgeting method to performance based budgeting which use

Burtynky s Irony In Relation To The Sublime
A resolution to this problem, and a further refinement of Burtynsky s relation to the sublime, appears
in Timothy Morton s discussion of irony. Morton writes that, Irony involves distancing and
displacement, a moving from place to place, or even from homey place into lonely space (Morton 98).
This description of irony provides useful tools for understanding how Burtysnky s photographs in OIL
function in relation to the sublime. Though these descriptors typify many of Burtysnky s photographs,
examining his aerial photographs of the Alberta Oil Sands, such as Alberta Oil Sands #10 Fort

Returning to Benjamin, he writes that, Even the most perfect reproduction of a work of art is lacking

on the ubiquity and lack of authenticity that occurs with mass image production and reproduction,
Bitumen shares some of these concerns, tracing the development of modern proliferation of images
from the first imagining techniques of Joseph Nicéphore Niépce, to the photochrome postcards (32) of
late 19th century, up to video sharing websites. The speaker of Bitumen looks to construct a timeline
of image mediation alongside the aestheticization of catastrophe. Even calamitous weather events,
which Bitumen ties to the unseasonable (34) weather that results from global warming, becomes a

Crime is still a complex and misunderstood phenomenon with no concrete evidence when it comes to human behavior. Throughout time there have been endless amounts of crime theories, few of which revolve around biological explanations. We have Cesare Lombroso and the Positive School who thought that criminals were genetically different from the rest of the general population, that they were biologically aggressive, had criminal traits and/or born as criminals. There is also William Sheldon s theory of body types, called the somatotype theory, that argued the mesomorph body type to be the most prone to commit crime or deviant behavior. ... Although he did not take into consideration that many prisoners lift weights while in prison and that the more muscular individuals usually win the fight (Cartwright, 2012). The twin adoption studies were used by behavioral geneticists to identify genetic and environmental influences underlying human behavioral and physical variations. Although there were many detractors of the twin adoption studies themselves and their results. There were troubles finding subjects which lead to a reduced power of result and inconsistency of the methods used for the operation. In contemporary biological explanations there are still works appearing and being developed, such as, the role of DNA, nutrition, body chemistry and ecological factors in human behavior (Gado, 2004). Most of these are either still being developed, like DNA, or were discredited along with the works of Lombroso, like nutrition. Although biological explanations may not have made a momentous improvement since the 18th century, arguments within biological explanations have expanded. There are many theories that argue if human behavior is predetermined at birth, or learned by influences. Nature versus nurture, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Including increased religious tolerance, an abolition of torture and increased freedom of the press. Whether these reforms were a result of the increased pressure on German rulers from the bourgeoisie to introduce enlightened policies, or whether they were simply the result of the Royals being influenced themselves by enlightened thinkers remains unclear. However, what is clear is that even these enlightened despots continued to harbour a belief in their own divine right to rule (Coy, 2011). However, just one year later he found himself on the throne of Prussia and proceeded to ruthlessly wage wars and exploit diplomatic opportunities with the aim of building Prussia into a great power. He provoked the war of Austrian Succession by invading the province of Silesia, which he subsequently won, doubling the Prussian population and cementing Prussia s place as the greatest of the German states. After the end of the war of Austrian Succession, Friedrich the Great began to embrace more enlightened ideas, he was markedly more tolerant in matters of religion allowing the citizens of Prussia to practice as they wished and he heavily promoted education reform and published the findings of many scholars (Gates, no date). • 19. Britain s Victory Of The Falklands War Britain s victory in the Falklands War undoubtedly contributed to the Conservative Party s election victory in 1983. However, it should not be considered essential to this triumph. Historians such as Helmut Norpoth have suggested that the Falklands factor significantly increased the popularity of the Thatcher administration and resulted in her re election. Dennis Kavanagh noted the effect on the war on Margaret Thatcher s image and emphasised the importance of this during the election campaign. Nevertheless, the Conservative success in 1983 must be attributed primarily to the pre war circumstances including the poor public perception of the Labour Party following their tenure in office prior to 1979 and Thatcher s social and economic policies. The Conservative victory was not down to a singular event, but a combination of events that all affected her image and her perception by the British electorate. Had Labour been a stronger opponent, the Conservatives may not have won in 1983. The most valid conclusion drawn is that of Peter Riddell; the 1983 election was a result of opposition weaknesses and the dividing role of the Alliance rather than the Falklands factor. The Falklands conflict was, in the opinion of both Thatcher and many historians believed to be a key reason for Thatcher s re election. The Problem Of Weight Watchers Introduction and Problem Statement Weight Watchers has faced a number of issues in the past several years, many of which are highlighted in the case study for this assignment. The company was able to reach a financial high point earlier this decade in 2011 when it recorded a record breaking 1.8 billion in revenues. However, the company s finances have slowly dwindled ever since then, culminating in losses for seven straight quarters and low stock prices at the beginning of 2015. The core of the problems it was facing were relatively straightforward. The weight loss industry was changing, and Weight Watchers was having difficult changing along with it. Specifically, the company had troubles modernizing its business model to account for the digital age as represented by increasing online options for weight loss. This fact was compounded by the reality that there was greater competition, including that from organizations whose primary business was to capitalize on digital technology to attract customers. Technologies such as mobile devices, mobile applications, cloud computing, and social media had made considerable strides in the way that people were monitoring and attempting to lose weight. Weight Watchers, however, had had only marginal success using these technologies, and faced the undesirable situation in which its methods were becoming rapidly outdated. Although the power and relative divinity of each Trickster varies from tradition to tradition, Tricksters have important roles in the creation, development, and sometimes destruction, of each culture. The Coyote of Native North American traditions is often depicted as assisting the Great Mystery or Great Spirit in the creating and populating of the world (Leeming). Coyote is sometimes purely self concerned, such as in the Sioux story of Coyote, Iktome, and the Rock (Leeming 50 2), providing the subject for cautionary morality tales. He is also often the victim of his own pride, such as his attempt to stay awake by propping open his eyes in order to be the first to arrive at Spirit Chief s lodge at dawn and receive a new name. Coyote falls asleep anyway, retains his name, and creates a permanent slant in his eyes (Dove 17 26). At other times, however, Coyote is selfless and miraculous. In the tale of Montezuma and Coyote in Canoes, from the Papago tradition of Arizona, after the Great Mystery has made the earth, and people have been made to populate it, led by Montezuma, Coyote comes to the great leader of men and instructs the chief to build a canoe. Montezuma doesn t understand why he would need a canoe, but before long a flood of Biblical magnitude washes away the land, and only Coyote and Montezuma survive to lead the new people the Great Mystery creates to repopulate (Leeming 110 11). It would seem easier to allow even the chief to perish in the flood if Coyote really is purely the self important Trickster so often depicted, but he seems intuitively to know that Montezuma will be a better leader to teach the people all the things they would need to know to survive (111). In my life, I have not yet encountered such a raw reflection of human life and emotions. My love of theater began at a young age, and since then I have seen how the twists and turns of plays and musicals can deeply impact an audience. My freshman year I actually performed at my school s brother school and played Celisse in Godspell. My sophomore year I played Mrs. Harcourt in Anything Goes, my junior year I was the Wardrobe in Beauty and the Beast, and this year I was the Bird Woman in Mary Poppins. My favorite performances, however, is Spring Sing, a student run production where classes compete for bragging rights. I have been an actor in Spring Sing since my freshman year and my class hopes to win this year! Being able to express myself through song, acting, and dance is a form of meditation for me. It is a time where I am able to completely forget about my own anxieties and focus on the worries of the character. Roles are static until you make them come alive, and that is where there is room for creative expression. My greatest skill is knowing how to improvise on and off stage. • 30. Nature Vs. Nurture Argumentative Analysis Nature versus Nurture debate Nature versus nurture is controversial debate that has been ongoing for several years about whether behaviors are caused by inherited traits or are they influenced by the environment. When Genie the wild child was found, she represented a tabula rasa blank state of learning due to the limited basic skills she had, and incapability to speak. Hence, psychologists examined the nature versus nurture argument through Genie. The early stages of growth are fundamentally crucial for children because they need human contact, affection, and interaction to fully develop a sense of self and be fully integrated into society. The absence of proper socialization during those critical periods caused Genie to develop differently than the rest. Genie was a victim of severe abuse and neglect by her father, Clark Wiley, she was discovered at the age of 13 in her family s home, she was strapped down to her potty chair and isolated in a dark bedroom for the first years of her life (McMahan, 2014). • 31. Five Forces Analysis Of Nestle Industry Environment Five Forces I. Threat of New Entrants Moderately High The food processing industry is very large and competitive; it is not uncommon for firms within the industry to do quite well. As a result, many companies enter into the market every year in an attempt to gain a portion of the profitable market. Luckily for Nestlé, the company has been around for decades and boasts a long history of quality products and consumer satisfaction, which has allowed the company to obtain a considerable share of the market. It is demonstrated in accelerated investment activity in the 2000 s which indicates long term commitment in markets where Nestle operates, and construction of 16 factories from 1993 2006 in China to meet consumer demand. As a result, new entrants into the industry must attempt to seize a portion of Nestlé s market share in order to survive. However, over the years, new entrants with healthier alternatives have threatened the status quo in markets like Asia, Africa and the United States. Economies of Scale Nestle enjoys massive economies of scale because of its size. Nestle has increased production while maintaining low cost through fewer factories. • 33. Criticism Of Piecemeal Social Engineering the state from the ground up. It is radical. Piecemeal social engineering, however, does not have the same idealized society as the end point, or at least, sees it as something in the far distance. Piecemeal is far less risky, for several reasons that Popper points out in his critique. Firstly, because piecemeal social engineering looks at solving the most urgent evils of society, and not just trying to get rid of all of them, with the goal of creating a heaven on earth, it is a method that can be applied to at any moment (Popper 148). Small changes that improve happiness is much easier to do than trying to fully eliminate suffering. An example of this type of improvement would be call centers for parents with sick children. This would allow the parents to call and get support from a registered nurse or doctor, without having to wait in long lines at the hospital, or adding to those long lines. Piecemeal is about solving issues that are occurring right now, and by doing that, is bettering society. This also makes this method faster that utopian, which takes generations for the blueprint to be seen though, instead of smaller aspects being fixed right away. There are many other issues that are connected to the long timeframe of utopian social engineering takes. Popper points out that making a heaven on earth is not something that can be done in one or more generations. • 35. The Death Penalty Is The Punishment Of Execution The death penalty is the punishment of execution, administered to someone legally convicted of a capital crime (law.cornell.edu, 2015). The first Congress of the United States authorized the federal death penalty on June 25, 1790 (deathpenalty.org, 2011). The death penalty can also be referred to as capital punishment, however capital punishment also includes a sentence to life in prison, as opposed to strictly executions. A convict can be sentenced to death by various methods including lethal injection, electrocution, gas chamber, firing squad, and hanging. After the death penalty was established, many debates have arisen arguing that these methods violate several of the United States Amendments. Select cases have been accused of violating the Sixth, Eighth, and Fourteenth Amendments. It is important to note that the judiciary goes through a series of processes prior to deciding a sentence for a capital crime. Many factors influencing the verdict include proportional analysis, individualized sentencing, method of execution, and classes of people not eligible of the death penalty. This paper will discuss brief descriptions of the methods used for executions, economical issues, the Supreme Court s opinion regarding the death penalty, as well as important factors that make up the proportional analysis, individual sentencing process, method used, and determining classes of people who are not eligible for the death penalty. • 36. Central Land Issues Of The United States Central Land Issues In the United States, Long Island is one of the most densely populated regions where land is a hot commodity. The population as of 2014 was over 7.8 million. As a result, of many people living in a fixed area a large amount of waste starts to develop. Waste is being left behind after many human activities. If nonbiodegradable products are not disposed of properly; the vast population growth is forcing the further building of homes and roads which is encroaching upon natural habitats. Since humans are moving into the natural habitats plant species are dwindling in numbers. Which alters the habitats for which birds relied on for a camouflaged and protected home? Migratory birds are also moving to other areas due to the land pollution. Human waste, cigarette butts, snack wrappers, and beverage containers are all contributing to the growing land pollution. Other pollution sources include chemical plants, coal fired power stations, oil refineries, nuclear waste disposal activity, large animal farms, plastic factories, and metal production factories. The soil becomes contaminated by many chemicals and pathogens; this passes on to humans through direct contact via food and water. Unfortunately they can also be unforgettable in how they make us suffer. They can be tedious. Both examples were apparent during my 24 year career in the military. The Pros And Cons Of Performance-Based Budgeting Budgeting is a process to plan budget which is used to describe fiscal expectation, expenditure and future planning of an individual, organization or government within a given period of time (Olawale, et al. 2012). Up until now, there are many methods of budgeting for governments such as traditional (line item) budgeting, zero based budgeting, and performance based budgeting. Due to its simplicity, the traditional budgeting which listed groups of expenditure using last year s data such as office supplies, salary, electricity bill and used incremental approach on them (Navin, 2003) has become the most popular one in many countries. However, many people criticize this budgeting method because many believe that this budgeting method is ineffective and inefficient .
