The War On The Home Front
In a very short amount of time, America went a serious of events which had great influence on the
home front. Those two events were WWII and the Cold War. Civil rights, the cultural norms, and
society at large, had changed greatly during a short amount of time due to these events. The United
States was fight a war on two fronts, both at home and overseas. The wars overseas had great
influence and impact on the successes that would come over time on the home front. Without these
wars and times of trials and tribulations, the civil rights movement and society as a whole, would most
likely have not had made as large of a shift as it did. During WWII, two groups that had it very rough
on the home front, was African Americans and women. Both of these groups faced many challenges,
but both seen the war as a gateway into regular, white male society. With the advent of WWII, African
Americans saw a further opportunity to press their cause. Hundreds of thousands went to war, with the
expectation that their service would earn them equal rights, once and for all. (Many Rivers to Cross)
When reflecting on the past though, African Americans have fought in every American war since the
revolution, and yet they were still bound by unjust laws. (October 8th Lecture) Both groups had
already overcame many diversities in the pasts, but were faced with an opportunity to possible
triumph over the ones they had left. African Americans before the war, also had little chance of

Differences Between Television And Television
After going over how meaning is made in television, in chapter seven, Mittell goes over how these
meanings on television can impact the way that we, as viewers, think about our lives and the world.
Mittell goes over the two most popular approaches that are usually used to understand the relationship
of the meanings conveyed through television and the real world, as a way to escape the world and as a
reflection of the world. The escapist and direct reflection approaches, according to Mittell, are not
accurate. The escapist approach, which states that people watch television to escape from real life,
falls short when considering the news, sports, talk shows, and other reality television programs due to
their connection to real life. The direct reflection approach, which states that programming on
television is true to viewers lives, fails to take into account fantasy programs and the representation
distortion that happens in non fiction programs. Mittell argues that the best way to understand the
relationship between television meanings and the way television viewers see the world is to use the
refraction approach. The refraction approach states that television meanings refract the world, where
programs alter the world around it and its meanings through particular techniques and forms like
cinematography and editing. An important term in Mittell s refraction approach is representation.
Mittell defines representation as, taking facets of the real world and presenting them

Christopher Columbus:
Explorer and navigator Christopher Columbus was born in 1451 in the Republic of Genoa, Italy. His
first voyage into the Atlantic Ocean in 1476 nearly cost him his life. Columbus participated in several

The Pros And Cons Of Animal Cloning
When the subject of cloning is brought up, many people expect to see an exact replica of a person,
including the same age. However, there is much more to cloning than creating an identical person
from the original. A clone is defined to be a cell or organism that is genetically indistinguishable to the
original cell or organism from which it is acquired (Rogers, 2015). Cloning was introduced in 1903 by
Herbert J. Webber, who was an American plant scientist and used cloning in reference to plants that
had been assembled through asexual propagation by horticultural methods. Plants that are propagated
asexually, whether from twigs or cuttings of other parts or from bulbs or buds, are exact genetic
replicas of their parent plant (Rogers, 2015). In nature, cloning happens all the time. Thesis: There are
many different topics to cloning other than the subject that began the idea of cloning. Over the years,
the topics of human cloning and animal cloning have been discussed bringing debate on ethical issues
and whether there are any advantages or disadvantages.
Animal cloning is a process by which a complete organism is replicated from a single cell extracted
from the parent organism and in a manner in which they are genetically the same (Cloning, 2017).
Meaning, that the cloned animal is an exact copy of its parent; both contain the identical DNA
(Cloning, 2017). More specifically, in reproductive cloning, researchers remove a mature somatic cell,
such as a skin cell, from

The Other Woman Analysis
I saw, The Other Woman, written by, David Ives, at the UCM Blackbox Theatre on November 3,
2017. Connor Bosworth directed the show, and did a great job. The story surrounds an author who is
met by his sleepwalking wife. She seems to be a completely different person, and when she wakes up
in the morning she doesn t remember a thing. He writes about his nights with her in his story, and lies
to his wife saying that nothing happened. She seems to know what is going on, though she never
admits it, and becomes depressed. Then a month passes without a sound, until we re met by her
sleeping alter ego once again. The husband responds as he normally does, trying comfort her, then she
reveals that she isn t actually sleep walking this time. They get in an argument, but she starts going
back and forth between her sleep walking persona and her awake one until she ends up in the former,
who asks to sleep with his as they had before his awake wife got depressed, but this time he refuses to
give in. Crap, this was supposed to be without spoilers, my bad.
The reason I practically told the entire story in the last paragraph is because this was by far my
favorite of the one acts. After all, the first element on Aristotle s six elements is plot, and the plot of
this show genuinely intrigued me, which isn t an easy task. It had a balanced mix of mystery and
subtle clues as to what is happening, that I was constantly wondering, and trying to guess, as to what
was going to happen next.

The Importance Of Legal Permanence For Children In Foster...
For nearly four decades, child welfare policy and practice have focused on the achievement of legal
permanence for children in foster care. We are now at a crossroads in advancing our understanding of
a 21st century child welfare system. As this paper will detail, we are now at a point where there are 2.8
children living in federally funded Title IV E adoptive and guardianship homes for every child living
in Title IV E subsidized foster care. In the United States, when a child or youth achieves legal
permanence through adoption or guardianship, legal custody of the child is transferred from the state
to adoptive parents or guardians. When children are adopted, parental rights are terminated whereas in
cases of guardianship, parental rights may or may not be terminated. ... Show more content on

Tape Recorder Essay
INTRODUCTION: Tape recorder was invented for recording sound by Fritz Pfleumer in 1928 based
on the invention of magnetic wire recording by valdemar poulsen in 1898.The first tape recorder from
AGE was the magnetophon K1, demonstrated in Germany in 1935.Eduard schuller of AGE built the

The I Had The Heart Of A Lion
Our childish hearts could never fathom such words like courage. It has meant so little to our innocent
ears. Courage could never entertain our childish whims. It s not until we reach full maturity, when a
word like courage takes hold of our character. Our entire being and definition of courage is then
molded into something more meaningful. It becomes more than the monsters under our bed or the
tower steel slide you re afraid of. Courage becomes so much more once you experience it.
At the tender age of five, I was the most courageous child, so I thought. While most children quaked
at the thought of leaving their mother s side, I roamed like a free bird. I stretched my wings out and
went where I pleased. I feared nothing but God himself. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Not only for myself, but for the other victims. As they were chopping me down with words, I used
them to build a stronger foundation. After the countless blows I endured from my tormentors, I was
finally strong enough to stand up for myself. Something others never had the courage to, I had the
courage to do now. The fear I wore like a leash was now gone. It took everything in me not to break. I
had to be brave for myself and the other people in my position. Every ounce of courage from every
victim was now a part of me. I spoke the fire that ignited the peace inside of the bullies. My voice didn
t tremble, nor did my body. There was no need to be scared of them anymore. Even with the odds
against me and all the terrible things that could have happened, I continue to be strong. Courage is
knowing when to walk away and throw in the towel. It s when you stand up for what you believe in
when the odds are not in your favor. Courage can either make or break you as a person.
Admittedly, I never knew what courage meant until I stood in front of hundreds of people in an
auditorium. I was a grain of sand and they were the sea, coming to consume every part of me. Now I
quaked like the small children I laughed at and my mother wasn t at my side. There was no place to
hide, I was completely exposed to the sea of people. I don t know what it was, but all of a sudden the
spotlight dimmed a little. The sea of people became a lazy river, and I could

Brazil Power In South America
Although, Brazil has not fully attained the international power that its leaders covet, Brazil s
diplomatic capabilities through foreign policy, immense territorial size, and increasing economic
power has allowed them to establish their current position as a rising international power.
The foundation of Brazil s acquisition of dominance in the international community began during the
1990 s when President Fernando Henrique Cardoso opted to shift their foreign policy from autonomy
through distance to autonomy through participation (Vigevani and Cepaluni, 2007, p. 1311). As a
result of this, Brazil s prior hesitation to participate in international affairs started to dissipate. Another
reason this shift in foreign policy was important is because the historical protectionist economic

Being located in the Western Hemisphere results in Brazil having to compete with the hemisphere s
and world s most powerful leader, the United States. Even though Brazil continues to displace the U.S.
as a dominant power in South America, the potential that Brazil possess as a global force is often
overshadowed by the U.S. Though their overall relationship remains positive, at times, this creates
hemispherical tension between the two nations. One of the most notable cause of tension stemmed
from Brazil s desire to obtain a permanent seat on the United Nation Security Council being
undermined from the U.S. s lack of support (Snow, 2014, p. 218). This served as a reminder that
similarly to China, who was hesitant on having two Asian rivals, India and Japan, have a permanent

Kosovo is a southern province of Serbia, the core of the former Yugoslavia. Slobodan Milosevic is
currently president of Yugoslavia. He has been president in Serbia since 1989. In 1989, President

In mid March, KLA accepted the peace deal, but the Serbs refused. Milosevic then escalated the crisis
by launching another large scale offensive in Kosovo. NATO s current air strike s today is the
principal objective in stopping and bringing down Milosevic. Up to a 100,000 ethnic Albanian men in
Kosovo of fighting age have vanished and may have been killed by Serbian forces. Serbian forces
have so far displaced 1.5 million ethnic Albanian men, women, and children in Kosovo . The air
campaign is working, but not as quickly as we hoped . We have conditions we have to follow

second, no casualties on their side; and third, do it fast #8212;before public opinion at home collapses
completely. Ground troops are precisely what it would have taken from day one to achieve the West s
premier purpose: stopping mass slaughter and mass expulsion. The alliance went for bombing. To
avoid being hit, NATO s planes flew high, killing many of the civilians they came to protect. Ninety
percent of Yugoslavia s population is of Albanian rather than Serb origins. Kosovo

musician bringing forth ideas that would be later seen in music after his death. Berg had somewhat of
a troubled childhood, but that did not stop him from becoming a successful musician. He was also
apart of the Second Viennese school. Alban Berg was a composer whose music broke tradition and is

Wozzeck−perhaps the most frequently performed theatrical work in the atonal idom represents Berg s
first attempt to deal within the framework of opera ( Alban Berg 1). He gained recognition as a
composer of international standing but also a degree of financial stability (Jarman 319). A well known
work for the violin was the Kammerkonzert. This song demonstrates Berg s love for intricate formal
designs and his interest in using apparently abstract, mathematical schemes as structural determinants
(Jarman 319). The Lyrische Suite for the string quartet was also one of Berg s compositions. It is the
most completely documented demonstration of the extent to which such extra musical considerations
act as compositional determinants (Jarman 319). Jarman says that Kammerkonzert and the Lyrische
Suite are songs that mark Berg s gradual adoption of the 12 note sytem (319). Another famous opera
work is Lulu. On one level Lulu is a number opera consisting ... of a sequence of arias, ensembles,
cavatinaas, ballades and other forms traditionally associated with vocal music, all of them clearly
identified by Berg in the score. (Jarman 321). Violin Concerto was a work of highly personal,

How do individual differences (e.g., personality, value,...
ANALYTICAL ESSAY How do individual differences (e.g., personality, value, perceptions, attitudes,
motivation and performance) affect team dynamics? The importance of groups and teams have
become a major focus in the business world today. Organizations have started to realize that the
evolution from an individual to a team management approach is a priority in present day. The reality is
that much of an organization s work is accomplished directly or indirectly through teams, which are
used as means of growing effectiveness and efficiency. Any organization is constantly changing and

By being open in a team, the other members will be able to communicate their ideas and be confident
about it. Conscientiousness refers to the degree to which a person is organized, systematic, punctual,
achievement oriented, and dependable. Conscientiousness is the one personality trait that uniformly
predicts how high a person s performance will be across a variety of occupations and jobs. This
personality trait makes it easier to work in a team and keep all members on board. Once they are hired,
conscientious people not only tend to perform well, but they also have higher levels of motivation to
perform, lower levels of turnover, lower levels of absenteeism, and higher levels of safety
performance at work. Extraversion is the degree to which a person is outgoing, talkative, sociable, and
enjoys socializing. Extraverts do well in social situations, and, as a result, they tend to be effective in
job interviews. Part of this success comes from preparation, as they are likely to use their social
network to prepare for the interview. (Roberts, B. W., Walton, K. E., Viechtbauer, W,2006). Extraverts
have an easier time than introverts do when adjusting to a new job. Moreover, they are not necessarily
model employees. For example, they tend to have higher levels of absenteeism at work, potentially
because they may miss work to hang out with or attend to the needs of their friends. Agreeableness is
the degree to which a person is affable, tolerant, sensitive,

in the digital age . Although the actions of the United Nations are not legally binding, it is evident that

Court ruling in 1972 that ruled warrantless wiretaps illegal, much of this action has been turned
around by post 9/11 legislation such as the Patriot Act which has increased the amount of surveillance

Changes in the Role of Women Between the Sixteenth and the...
Over long periods of time change is often inevitable. One such instance of change throughout history
is that of family members and their role in not only the family, but also in society as a whole.
Although changes can be seen in the roles of every family member, it can be argued that the role of
women in the family, especially that of mothers, changed the most. Between the sixteenth century and
the twentieth century, the role that mothers played in the family and in society changed greatly. Since
the sixteenth century, one of the most important roles of mothers, or women in general, was to have
children. Although most women accepted this role and believed it was their duty to have children, not

One common way in which the number of births was limited was by marrying late. Although this
provided some reduction in the number of children a woman had, once she was married she would
begin to have children at regular intervals.
While in general women during this time period gave birth to many children, social class had an
impact on just how many children a mother had. Prior to the nineteenth century, poor women had
fewer children than wealthy women even though at the time their role was the same; to procreate.
Some reasons as to why wealthy women had more children than poor women include health, loss of
husbands, and breast feeding. Poorer women were less likely than wealthy women to have enough to
eat. A lack of nutrients could result in amenorrhea and miscarriages as well as other reproductive
problems. Also, with the staggering death rates, women were likely to lose their husbands before they
reached menopause. While wealthy women would sometimes remarry for economic or social reasons,
poor women would commonly remain widows. Finally, wealthy women were likely to put their babies
out to wet nurses while poor women would usually nurse their own children. Breast feeding actually
reduces fertility after child birth leading to longer intervals between pregnancies for poor women. By
the nineteenth century, the role of mothers had not changed in regard to the responsibility of bearing
children. However, what did change was their role in deciding

The Film Thor ( 2011 ) Directed By Kenneth Branagh
Sierra Burow
4/16/15
SCAN 3202 The film Thor (2011) directed by Kenneth Branagh is a piece of contemporary expressive
culture that draws from many various components of Norse mythology. Of the mythological
characters being used, the most prominent in the film are Thor, Odin, Frigg, Sif, and Heimdall. The
contemporary depictions of these characters parallel and diverge their depictions in original old Norse
mythology sources in numerous ways. These original sources include but are not limited to The Prose
Edda by Snorri Sturluson and The Poetic Edda translated by Carolyne Larrington, both being revered
and treasured by scholars and Norse fans alike. The contemporary portrayals of Norse mythological
characters in the film Thor took the form they did for a variety of reasons, the foremost being Judeo
Christian influence, followed by the objective to create a film that is contemporary and relatable to a
wide demographic. In Marvel s 2011 film, Thor could be described as a cross between an alien,
superhero, and a God. However according to Norse myth, he is a God that presides over the air,
including wind, storms, rain, and therefore crop growth and fertility. He is the most valiant of the
Gods despite his inevitable doom in Ragnarok; he is committed to protecting humanity, hyper
masculine, and wields a powerful hammer that boomerang s back to him when he throws it and helps
him in his duty to protect humanity against evil (Lindow 486 (Thor s Hammar)). Thor primarily

Conflicting Parties Case Study Analysis
Conflicting Parties Case Study Analysis
When working in tight quarters, there are countless ways of unintentionally impeding on a colleague s
work habits. Due to a shared office, Brian and Jon are no exception. While striving to complete work
tasks through the means each is comfortable with and accustom to, each individual s work style habits
imposes on the other s. Unfortunately due to space limitations, separating Brian and Jon to two
separate offices is not a possibility. However, through thoughtful conflict resolution, Brian and Jon can
negotiate the means to more forward working together, without continuing to distract the other with
their own work style.
Conflict Resolution In broad terms, conflict resolution refers to the process two or more individuals
utilize in order to reach an agreement to a dispute or debate (Miall, Ramsbotham Woodhouse, 1999).
While there are many specific components to conflict resolution, the application of each facet is
strongly tied to the specifics of each individual conflict. In the case of Brian and Jon s office space
conflict, the pair should examine the relevant concepts of fractionation, framing, reframing, and
common ground. Ultimately, if the two colleague s cannot reach an agreement(s) on how to move
forward working together, mediation can be utilized as a last resort.

As one of the many components of conflict resolution, fractionation is a concept which should be

Disadvantages Of Uk Constitution
The quotation given by Alder has been in debates for some decades now and this is what my essay is
about. Starting with an introduction of constitution the classifications will be described. Then giving a
short history of UK constitution it will be followed by its sources. Then giving a summary of recent
debates on this topic, essay will take form of arguments and concluding with my opinion.
A constitution is mechanism of fundamental principles governing how members of a group or
organisation should behave, who has the power etc. Any organisation from a small club to any biggest
union can have a constitution. The constitution of a country is a little different, although it is still,
essentially, a set of rules governing how the country operates ... Show more content on

Conventions are also known named as customs and have no weight legally but politically acts as
gravitational force in many decisions. Very basic example of a convention is that legally queen can
refuse the royal assent to any bill, passed through parliament, however due to convention she does not.
Many scholars have even debated on this like Dicey, Marshall and Jennings who said conventions are
flesh on dry bones of law and oil to the wheels of law. 6
Should the constitution of UK be codified or not is a very deep and difficult argument. The basic
theories for the constitution are Formalist and Substantive. Formalists say that the constitution should
establish the government bodies and provide clear framework of rules so that individuals are clear
about their rights and the way to act. Whereas Richard Epstein characterises Substantive theory that
constitution should also be designing the fundamental values such as democracy and human rights and
provide protection to individuals.7
There is a vast debate on topic that what should be added into the constitution and some basic and
common points from arguments at a glance are

The Key Features Of Stuttering
Key Features of Stuttering
Stuttering is a speech disorder that occurs when the fluency of speech is involuntarily interrupted
(Belyk et al., 2014). According to scientific literature, typical symptoms of stuttering include
prolongations of speech sounds, sound and syllable repetition, fast tempo, lengthy pauses, intrusion of
irrelevant sounds, the use of interjections, and physical signs of struggle (Andrade et al., 2014).
Additionally, stutterers can develop secondary behaviours including negative perceptions leading to
avoidance of certain social situations (Maguire et al., 2004). Negative emotional responses can cause
debilitating cognitive and social impacts (Andrade et al., 2014). Stuttering typically develops in
childhood and the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Additionally, Watson is male and his mild condition presented itself in childhood. Despite the trend for
spontaneous recovery, Watson has yet to experience partial or complete recovery. Overall, many of the
typical symptoms of stuttering are present in Watson s case.
Aetiology
Despite the intensive efforts in the scientific community, the aetiology of stuttering remains largely
unknown. Suspected factors of influence include dopamine hyperactivity, disordered sensory
feedback, linguistic deficits, anticipation of speech difficulties, generalized motor deficits, speech
specific motor deficits, environmental factors, and genetic factors (Max et al., 2004). Currently, it is
widely agreed upon that genetic factors have a substantial role in the aetiology of stuttering. Studies in
twins have shown an increased rate of stuttering in monozygotic twins than in dizygotic twins 77%
prevalence versus 32% prevalence (Felsenfeld et al., 2000). In addition to genetic factors,
environmental factors include birth events, traumas or illnesses, stress, and peer influences (Felsenfeld
et al., 2000).
On the contrary, Michaela believes that both genetics and environment play a rather minimal role in
stuttering. Scientific literature suspects that genetics have a profound influence on stuttering.
However, a family history for Watson was conducted, and revealed a lineage absent of stuttering.
Watson has not displayed any symptoms of

Radar In World War Two
One of the most important technological achievements of World War Two was the invention of radar.
For the first time in history, commanders could see hundreds of miles past their own vision and
develop strategies to counter enemy movements. Radar had enormous effects on the outcome of World
War Two and was a determining factor in how naval and aerial strategy developed into what it is
today. Applicable in both offensive and defensive strategies, radar can be used as an early warning
device or as a helping mechanism for aerial bombers and naval ships to find their targets more
effectively. Defensively, radar played a large role against aerial and naval attacks throughout the war.

Suddenly, poor weather conditions and the darkness of night were no longer problems for naval
leaders and fighters. Radar allowed ship commanders and airman to see without light, and be more
precise with their targets. The ability to attack at night was immensely different from previous wars.
Previously, the darkness made fighting impossible due to lack of technology for targeting. With radar,
this was now possible. To attack from the air or by ship at night was a formidable threat to ships and
land bases. Radar was used to locate enemy ships and launch planes accurately from large distances.
Attacking without ever seeing the enemy was also now a normal element to naval warfare. From using
radar to launch planes at an enemy hundreds of miles away to using it to find the coordinates of enemy
ships and using naval gunfire, seeing the actual enemy was no longer necessary. One instance where
radar played a formidable role in an attack was at the battle of Midway. Midway was the turning point
in the war where Japan lost two of their aircraft carriers due to radar locating their exact locations
(Lambert). With this information American forces were able to send dive bombers to the exact
coordinates to destroy the vital Japanese carriers. Also using radar for reconnaissance was a
determining factor for the offensive campaigns. Being able to detect where the enemy is and where
they are going to be made the planning of operations more adjustable to change. The use of radar
required a broad communication chain in order to inform leaders of the findings. With the increased
communications, radar findings could be announced to the whole fleet and its commanders. Increasing
the pre battle intelligence by increasing communication, commanders could use the radar finding and
direct ships and aircraft

Tariff In America
Tariffs have a great need to be fully increased across the board, first of all. If the tariffs were more
costly the money it will costs to outsource the services or products sold by companies will eventually
here in America to then start using more Americans to produce similar goods needed to make the
companies goods and services. I understand it s always better way to have any country use their own
locals to do the work in general to get things instead of getting out of the foreign companies to make

jobs to other countries with cheaper labor cost. It is believed that it will continue to add to the
unemployment rate and increase the money lost from the U.S. economy and not coming back. Tariffs
have proven that they can keep the jobs in the U.S. and the money will stay too, which will be spent
on in stores, in local restaurants, housing, entertainment, groceries and other stuff. In the past and at

The Movie Signs Of 2002
I m reviewing the movie Signs from 2002 by M.Night Shyamalan. This is a Science fiction movie
because involves aliens, but it doesn t show them very much. This story takes place mainly on a farm,
and a small town where the main character lives. The main character, and owner of the farm is Rev.
Graham Hess. Hess is not a Reverent any more. On the farm he is alone because he lost his family on
a car accident. The loss of his wife was hard, but he had to be strong for his son and daughter. The guy
that killed his wife was a person he knew.
The story starts when on a morning the son of Hess discovered some signs on the crops. They thought
that was really weird, so they called the police. The police just starts telling them that people could

Graham Hess). Joaquin Phoenix ( Merrill Hess). M.Night Shyamalan as ( Ray Reddy). I think the
choose this character because they are really good actors. Even do the actors are good the movie is
bad. The movie is bad because is supposed to be about aliens, but it doesn t show them very much.
Also because the end has nothing to do with the beginning. So this movie is just terrible because is
terrible.
I don t know why anyone should see this movie. I think this because it has nothing to do about aliens.
I said this because is not actually what I expected. I say this because I expected action or a war, but
that didn t happen. Also because it didn t show the aliens. In my opinion is also very boring because it
doesn t gets the attention of the viewers. It doesn t get the attention of the viewers because it doesn t
get into the interesting part. So this is a horrible movie.
In my opinion I think no one would like this movie because is really bad. The people that like aliens
would not like this movie because it has nothing to do with them. The rating of this movie is PG 13. In
my opinion I don t think why this movie it rated PG 13 because is not even scary. I also think this
movie is really boring like I said before. My final review grade is **/***** because is not that good.
So if you like alien s movie don t watch this one. Also is really bad

Argument in Favor of Euthanasia Essay
Introduction Today, medical interventions have made it possible to save or prolong lives, but should
the process of dying be left to nature? (Brogden, 2001). Phrases such as, killing is always considered
murder, and while life is present, so is hope are not enough to contract with the present medical
knowledge in the Canadian health care system, which is proficient of giving injured patients a chance
to live, which in the past would not have been possible (Brogden, 2001). According to Brogden, a
number of economic and ethical questions arise concerning the increasing elderly population. This is
the reason why the Canadian society ought to endeavor to come to a decision on what is right and

On the other hand, voluntary euthanasia is described as a situation in which the critically ill patient
requests from someone else to help them die. They may either influence someone to assist them in
suicide, or refuse life saving medical treatment (Ramabele, 2004).
Euthanasia and the Elderly Population When it comes to people s attitudes towards euthanasia, age
has a very strong impact. According to Brogden, elderly, terminally ill individuals are considered
vulnerable. They might be short of the ability and understanding of lessening the pain of their
symptoms, and could experience apprehension regarding the future and what the consequences of
their illness are (Blank et al, 2001). The elderly individual s decision making about euthanasia may
just be because of confusion, depression, dementia, or a number of other symptoms, however, these
could all be relieved with suitable treatment and support (Blank et al, 2001).
However, great pressure is experienced by elderly people to request euthanasia because many of them
already feel a burden to their families and caregivers (Brogden, 2001). Individuals may argue that
although medical technology can preserve their life, the financial burden and pain that is endured
could be so immense that it would be better off for the family, society, and even the patient them self if
they choose to die (Black

Rhetorical Analysis Of Queen Elizabeth
Queen Elizabeth I is considered to be one of the most powerful women in history. In 1588, as ruler of
England, she was faced with an invasion against Spain for control over trade in the new world. Her
Against the Spanish Armada speech was addressed to the English Army at Tilbury Fort to help
motivate and boost assurance, as well as showing support to her troops over the battle they were about
to face. With her passionate words and courageous way, Queen Elizabeth establishes a connection
with her soldiers; appealing to their patriotism and emotions through logos, pathos, and ethos.
Although she was uncertain of a famous victory , Elizabeth instills the reassurance they need to fight
against Spain and leading them to victory in the end. Elizabeth s relationship with her people is built
on faith and love, not fear or tyranny. In the beginning of her speech she addresses the soldiers as My
loving people. She refers to her troops as faithful and loving, showing the appreciation and loyalty that
she has for her soldiers. She feels she must acknowledge the important bond between herself and her
soldiers by showing them that she is not just a distant queen. To assure her troops of her faith in them,
she uses logos in her speech to encourage her soldiers to fight for the good of England. For example,
she lets them know by saying ... I have placed my chiefest strength and safeguard in the loyal hearts
and good will of my subjects. She uses repetition of the word I and We to show that she is not just a
queen but a fellow Englishman. ...to live or die amongst you all; to lay down, for my God, and for my
kingdom, and for my people, my honor and my blood, even the dust , shows that she is a part of the
people and will fight side by side with them to defend their country. This would be the first thing that
her soldiers fight for, a people and ruler relationship that is bound by love and trust. After she
established the bond, Elizabeth strengthens it with a promise and displays her own self courage.
Women in power were not always great leaders, and were seen as weak in war. To oppose the view of
women being weak in war, Elizabeth uses pathos in her speech to present herself as not only a queen
but a fighter as

Essay on Ritalin and Its Effects on Children
Thesis: Today there is a great debate concerning the diagnosis and treatment of ADD/ADHD and who
has the right to decide what happens. It is estimated that between 3 and 12 percent of the population
has to deal with conditions known as Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) or Attention
Deficit Disorder (ADD). This equals approximately 3 million children in the United States alone. Both
of these disorders (ADD and ADHD) exhibit the same traits leading them to be lumped together.

These disorders can be acquired may different ways. One of these ways is before birth. The use of
drugs, toxemia, infectious diseases, exposure to radiation, prematurity, and complicated delivery are
all causes of this disorder originating during pregnancy and delivery. Post delivery causes include
meningitis, encephalitis, seizures from fever, head injury, and lead toxicity. All of these conditions
lead to damage to the brain (About ADD/ADHD).
ADD and ADHD can also be looked at as developmental disorders. This is because some children
seem to outgrow these conditions as they get older. These people were sometimes labeled
underachievers when they were young, and now classified late bloomers since they have outgrown
their disorders.
Many drugs have been developed to treat ADD and ADHD. One of these drugs is Methylphenidate

Environmental Impacts Of Marine Biodiversity Essay
The state of Florida is known for its beautiful waters and diverse marine ecosystems. Millions of
people visit the state each year to vacation and enjoy Florida s many tourist attractions. One of Florida
largest attractions is its fishing. People come from all over the world to experience Florida s exciting
and productive fisheries. Florida is even called the fishing capital of the world. The state not only has
the largest number of recreational fisherman in the country it also has the second largest commercial
fishing industry. Commercial fishing in Florida has deep historical roots dating all the way back to the
1800s. In some parts of Florida whole towns and economies are centered around the commercial
fishing industry. This has led to depleted populations of several fish species in many of these areas.
The commercial extraction of large numbers of individuals from targeted marine populations and the
inadvertent by catch and habitat damage that results from that extraction have been identified as
among the most critical factors currently affecting marine biodiversity ( Brailovskaya 1236) Due to its
environmental impacts, there should be more regulation on commercial fishing including stricter size
limits, and bag limits on fish. Implementation of bycatch reduction technologies should be required of
all commercial fisherman and no fishing zones should be established.
State regulations and limits of different species have become very controversial and many people

Analysis Of The Story Shenzhen
Overview The story of Shenzhen always begins with lyrics from a song: In 1979, an old man drew a
circle at the South Sea of China written by Jiang Kairu ( A Story of Spring ). The old man, Deng
Xiaoping, still enjoyed a prestigious reputation among old generations because of opening China to
foreign investment and the global market, and supporting the market economy. If Shenzhen is the
circle, then for many people, Deng is the designer that drew it. As the first special economic zone
established in China, Shenzhen developed from a small town in Guangdong Province to a metropolis
with more than fifteen million people. The sudden increase in population from different areas makes
Shenzhen a diverse and vibrant city in China, and it ranks 22 in Global Financial Centres Index, even
above Beijing ( GFCI ).
Geography
Shenzhen belongs to Guangdong Province, the southmost Province on the mainland China. Although
Shenzhen is a coastal city about one degree below the Northern Tropic ( Shenzhen, China latitude
longitude ), it is still not the southmost city in Guangdong Province. Cities often have special names
that reflect its trait historically. Guangzhou, for example, is sometimes called the city of sheep due to
the ancient legend of five immortals riding on sheep who brought fortune and good harvest to the
farmers (citation). Shenzhen, on the other hand, had never showed any significance in history until it
became the Special Economic Zone. Lack in legendary tales did not

African Americans And African American Studies
The mission of the students around the country who fought for an education that would shed light on
African Americans. The progress the students created is seen today in American Universities ,and also
HBCUs, where (AAS)African American Studies is implemented into the curriculum. Before, the
dissection the formation of AAS, it should be noted that without the sacrifice from others I

There have always been African Studies, just not in the American Education System, black
intellectuals dedicated many years to understand African American History and their origin and their

discipline explains the connection between African Americans and white and other ethnic groups.

A Father, A Self Portrait, Prophets Hair
In class, I read three Asian Middle Eastern literature stories and poems that gave me a strong willed
perspective on the life of being a father figure. Those poems were A Father , Self Portrait , and
Prophets Hair . The authors of those poems gave me a different opinion on what is a father figure. A
father figure is someone who is not related to a person in a family way but treats you like he was your
father with the way he cares and protects you. Father figures are one extraordinary people. They make
us feel good and loved. They give us there opinions and views of life. Some people who are without
fathers for various reasons, look up to these people for guidance. These people help out with making
us grow up and be mature. That s why these people are called father figures. A Father is by author
Bharati Mukherjee. Mukherjee wrote A Father from the third person point of view with informal
diction. This view has made the reader feel as though they are part of the story, watching, and
observing. This style allows the reader to feel as though they are physically present in the story. A
Father is about the Bhowmick family living in Detroit, Michigan. They are adjusting too America
from there Hindu culture. Mr. and Mrs. Bhowmick are mentioned as their titles Mr. and Mrs.
throughout the entire story to place emphasis on their marriage. They had an arranged marriage in

is it art or vandalism? To be honest I think graffiti is a form of art because it is a way to express

and where they grew up. d my opinion there s kids out there who have talent better than some artists
for that matter and are these kids are not being recognized for it because people have this vision in
their heads that graffiti is a crime. Instead of being recognised and paid for their work they are getting
arrested. Although In my opinion i believe graffiti is a form of art, it is attractive to the eye and it has a
meaning to it. Graffiti is a form of self expression and, I think that self expression is a form of art.
Some artists paint on canvas while others paint on buildings, either way it is still someone s creativity
at work. There is much worse going on in the world that people should be worrying about more than
graffiti, but yes, technically it is vandalism, but it doesn t harm anyone in any way.

They built various temples for many of their gods, but only the two most honored had a temple at the
top of the Templo Mayor, meaning temple major, which was located at the center of Tenochtitlan. The
astounding pyramid was built in 1325 to honor the sun god Huitzilopochtli and the rain god Tlaloc
(Ancient 1). The Templo Mayor is believed to have been around 300 ft. high with two temples at it s
peak for their gods (McDowell 768). The Aztecs built many other pyramids with a temple at the top,
but the factor that determined an important pyramid was if the pyramid had a roof made of wooden
beams forming a point (Morgan 15). The average Aztec temple was approximately 200 ft. that rose in
terraces with a broad stairway leading to the top (Morgan 15). Art for the Aztecs was a way to honor
their gods, and for their own aesthetic pleasure. The artisans would organize themselves into guilds
based on what they were skilled in. Through metalwork, the Aztecs would make metal objects by
beating thin pieces of gold, silver, or copper, or they would make ornaments and jewelry by pouring
molten gold into basic molds. Their lapidaries carved and polished bright colored gems, such as jade,

would need her to tie her hair back. She also wears a knee length sapphire blue dress with short
sleeves, a keyhole neckline, with the dress tying around her neck in a bow. She also wears a pair of
black high heels. Heels and a clean dress are things that the poor people in the city aren t able to afford
or wear, showing her wealth. However, by the second act after Hope becomes the leader of the
rebellion after Bobby s death, she adds a few new pieces to her outfit in order to convey her new
allegiance to the disenfranchised poor people. One thing she puts on during the We re Not Sorry
number is a white bandana around her forehead, tying it in the back much like what is seen on people
practicing karate, and thus showing Hope as a fighter and not simply someone who benefits from
being rich. The final piece of clothing she puts on is during the final song, I See a River, where she
drapes herself in a light blue flag. As she dances and moves her arms, it billows behind her like a cape,
or a river, much as she sings about in the song. With these two costume additions to Hope during the
second act, it solidifies her shift in siding with the high class and her father to siding with the people to

Siddhartha Gautama Was A Great Leader
Siddhartha Gautama was the son of a king, pampered like a prince who abandoned the life of desire to
pursue Enlightenment. When I lived in Nepal, I went to school and studied Buddhism. There I learned
about his life and the philosophies he kept in practices. Also, I learned that he was a great leader, and
his great ideas such as the Four Noble Truths, Eightfold path, Nirvana, fundamental wisdoms, the
theory of karma and rebirth, the five precepts and Wheel of Dharma has influenced many people. I
learned about his great achievement and how he was able to create a whole new religion, which is now
known as the fourth largest religion in the world, by influencing people through his practices and
philosophy. From this experience, I learned firsthand that he is a great religious leader who left a
legacy not just on Nepalese culture, but on the whole world.
The founder of Buddhism was a man named Siddhartha Gautama. He was born in Nepal, just where I
was. To be more specific he was born in a prominent garden of Lumbini which soon rehabilitated to a
place of pilgrimage. Even then it wasn t sure that he was really born in Lumbini, it was a predication.
Some Buddhist from last some century had interrogated about the Siddhartha Gautama birth story, but
sighting them on confident ground when it rises to the later history of Lumbini (Irons). This was
proven by the memorial pillars there, which was created by Indian emperor Ashoka. King Asoka was
the king of Mauryan Dynasty and he was

Snow By Louis Macneeice Essay
A poem is an experience, not a thought. It is an experience both the author and the reader share with
one another. Authors of poems use tones, keywords, hidden messages, irony, and diction to create their
work. They use these tactics so the reader thinks about what they are reading and try evaluating what
the message is that the reader wants to get across. In the poem Snow by Louis MacNeice, he uses
these same characteristics to get the readers mind active in the words. Let s examine the poem Snow
and see what the meaning behind this poem is. To begin thinking about this poem, we should stop and
try to imagine the background of the poem. A tone could include mysterious, since the meaning is not
seen right away, but it could also be thoughtful because he allows us to think in a different way. We
know there is a main character which could be the author, but are not given his name. The setting is at
a house where the first snowfall is mixing with the flowers left from the summertime. The time period
is not given to us in the poem, so we are unsure of that. Finally, when thinking about why MacNeice
wrote this poem we can see there is a connection between the weather he is seeing outside and the
world around us. The title is very simple and can cause any reader to think the same thing. Snow
according the Merriam Webster Dictionary, the word snow has one main definition. Snow is the
precipitation in the form of small white crystals formed directly from the water vapor of the air at a
temperature less than 32 degrees. In other words, it is the frozen crystals that fall from the sky during
the winter season. Just by the title we should be able to tell what the poem will be about, but
MacNeice puts a turn on the wording of the poem to catch the reader off guard. This raises the
question if MacNeice wanted the poem to be about a snowfall, or does he have a deeper meaning
underneath the title? As the poem continues there will be more references at what the poem is about.
The first sentence gives the reader an oxymoron to think about. MacNeice talks about spawning snow,
which we could figure out from the title, but he also includes the thought of spawning pink roses
against a window. This can be confusing to

Why Is Austerity A Dangerous Idea
I decided to read the book, Austerity: The History of a Dangerous Idea by Mark Blyth, which is about
the turn to austerity in economic policy. The author argues that austerity is a dangerous idea for three
main reasons: Austerity cannot work in practice. It imposes a disproportionate burden on poorer
households. And, it ignores the fallacy of composition that says that all countries cannot be austere
simultaneously. This book is among the best descriptions of our path to crisis and it is highly
recommended to anyone who wants to understand the current economic situation in Ireland. The
author explains that the main reason he wrote this book is that he was fed up of people who were very
wealthy telling people who were not so wealthy that they ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He was an orphan child and was raised by his grandmother. He is now a political scientist and a
professor of International Political Economy at Brown University. So Blyth went from rags to riches,
as the saying goes. He is best known for the book her wrote in 2012: Austerity: The History of a
Dangerous Idea as he portrays a great set of sources and consequences of the current economic affairs,
and extremely detailed account of how we managed to arrive in this current situation. He also wrote
the book Great Transformations . He is a Watson Institute Faculty member and director at the
University of Undergraduate Programs in development studies and international relations. He is editor
of Routledge Handbook of International political economy and a co editor of the volume of
Constructivist Theory and Political Economy titled Constructing the International Economy . He is
currently working on a new book that questions the political and economics sustainability of liberal
democracy called The End of the Liberal World . Blyth is a member of the Warwick Commission on
International Financial Reform and also a member of the Editorial Board of the Review of
International Political Economy. His articles have appeared in journals such as The American Political
Science Review , Perspectives and Politics , Comparative Politics and World Politics . Mark Blyth has

Sidney Bechet Impact On Jazz
From Bechet to Marsalis: The Evolution of Jazz
Jazz: An overview
In the 20th century, Jazz was one of the most expressive forms of music around, as it was just starting
out and was born in a time where victims of oppression were beginning to stand up and rebel. In
comparison to classical music, Jazz is a very new genre of music. It s evolution is vividly evident in it
s contrast of instrumentation, dynamics, and the introduction of modal jazz which I will discuss later
on in this essay. One of the first jazz virtuoso s that appeared and had a significant influence on jazz,
was Sidney Bechet, on clarinet and saxophone.

With this popularity, jazz musicians decided to form larger ensembles, known as Big Bands . These
big bands would typically consist of trumpets, saxophones, trombones, drums, bass (or double bass),
piano and would usually have a soloist. These bands were like the symphony orchestras of jazz. A few
of the most popular big bands would ve been led by Chick Webb, Paul Whiteman, Glenn Miller, Ted
Lewis and an all female big band named Helen Lewis and her all girl jazz syncopaters . The popularity
of these groups was astounding. They were selling out venues everywhere and going on regular tours
across America. These bands would have some impeccably skilled jazz musicians as soloist s also
such as Bix Beiderbecke and Dizzy Gillespie. One big band that stood out from this era would be
Benny Goodman s big band. Their popularity was almost unbelievable. Benny himself was widely
known as the King of Swing and had some of the most dedicated fans at the time. Radio was the most
important aspect for Benny as his recordings would be heard by a wider audience. This ultimately led
to the crazy fan base he gained. For example, in their performance at the Stanley Theatre, it was
reported that most of the audience were dancing down the aisles to the music. People had never
experienced music like this before. It was almost like an explosion of life and freedom, caused by a
wave of new and exciting music. Goodman s performance at

Civil rights, the cultural norms, and society at large, had changed greatly during a short amount of time due to these events. The United States was fight a war on two fronts, both at home and overseas. The wars overseas had great influence and impact on the successes that would come over time on the home front. Without these wars and times of trials and tribulations, the civil rights movement and society as a whole, would most likely have not had made as large of a shift as it did. During WWII, two groups that had it very rough on the home front, was African Americans and women. Both of these groups faced many challenges, but both seen the war as a gateway into regular, white male society. With the advent of WWII, African Americans saw a further opportunity to press their cause. Hundreds of thousands went to war, with the expectation that their service would earn them equal rights, once and for all. (Many Rivers to Cross) When reflecting on the past though, African Americans have fought in every American war since the revolution, and yet they were still bound by unjust laws. (October 8th Lecture) Both groups had already overcame many diversities in the pasts, but were faced with an opportunity to possible triumph over the ones they had left. • 3. Differences Between Television And Television After going over how meaning is made in television, in chapter seven, Mittell goes over how these meanings on television can impact the way that we, as viewers, think about our lives and the world. Mittell goes over the two most popular approaches that are usually used to understand the relationship of the meanings conveyed through television and the real world, as a way to escape the world and as a reflection of the world. The escapist and direct reflection approaches, according to Mittell, are not accurate. The escapist approach, which states that people watch television to escape from real life, falls short when considering the news, sports, talk shows, and other reality television programs due to their connection to real life. The direct reflection approach, which states that programming on television is true to viewers lives, fails to take into account fantasy programs and the representation distortion that happens in non fiction programs. Mittell argues that the best way to understand the relationship between television meanings and the way television viewers see the world is to use the refraction approach. The refraction approach states that television meanings refract the world, where programs alter the world around it and its meanings through particular techniques and forms like cinematography and editing. An important term in Mittell s refraction approach is representation. Mittell defines representation as, taking facets of the real world and presenting them ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 7. The Pros And Cons Of Animal Cloning When the subject of cloning is brought up, many people expect to see an exact replica of a person, including the same age. However, there is much more to cloning than creating an identical person from the original. A clone is defined to be a cell or organism that is genetically indistinguishable to the original cell or organism from which it is acquired (Rogers, 2015). Cloning was introduced in 1903 by Herbert J. Webber, who was an American plant scientist and used cloning in reference to plants that had been assembled through asexual propagation by horticultural methods. Plants that are propagated asexually, whether from twigs or cuttings of other parts or from bulbs or buds, are exact genetic replicas of their parent plant (Rogers, 2015). In nature, cloning happens all the time. Thesis: There are many different topics to cloning other than the subject that began the idea of cloning. Over the years, the topics of human cloning and animal cloning have been discussed bringing debate on ethical issues and whether there are any advantages or disadvantages. Animal cloning is a process by which a complete organism is replicated from a single cell extracted from the parent organism and in a manner in which they are genetically the same (Cloning, 2017). Meaning, that the cloned animal is an exact copy of its parent; both contain the identical DNA (Cloning, 2017). More specifically, in reproductive cloning, researchers remove a mature somatic cell, such as a skin cell, from ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 8. The Other Woman Analysis I saw, The Other Woman, written by, David Ives, at the UCM Blackbox Theatre on November 3, 2017. Connor Bosworth directed the show, and did a great job. The story surrounds an author who is met by his sleepwalking wife. She seems to be a completely different person, and when she wakes up in the morning she doesn t remember a thing. He writes about his nights with her in his story, and lies to his wife saying that nothing happened. She seems to know what is going on, though she never admits it, and becomes depressed. Then a month passes without a sound, until we re met by her sleeping alter ego once again. The husband responds as he normally does, trying comfort her, then she reveals that she isn t actually sleep walking this time. They get in an argument, but she starts going back and forth between her sleep walking persona and her awake one until she ends up in the former, who asks to sleep with his as they had before his awake wife got depressed, but this time he refuses to give in. Crap, this was supposed to be without spoilers, my bad. The reason I practically told the entire story in the last paragraph is because this was by far my favorite of the one acts. After all, the first element on Aristotle s six elements is plot, and the plot of this show genuinely intrigued me, which isn t an easy task. It had a balanced mix of mystery and subtle clues as to what is happening, that I was constantly wondering, and trying to guess, as to what was going to happen next. ... • 11. The I Had The Heart Of A Lion Our childish hearts could never fathom such words like courage. It has meant so little to our innocent ears. Courage could never entertain our childish whims. It s not until we reach full maturity, when a word like courage takes hold of our character. Our entire being and definition of courage is then molded into something more meaningful. It becomes more than the monsters under our bed or the tower steel slide you re afraid of. Courage becomes so much more once you experience it. At the tender age of five, I was the most courageous child, so I thought. While most children quaked at the thought of leaving their mother s side, I roamed like a free bird. I had to be brave for myself and the other people in my position. Every ounce of courage from every victim was now a part of me. I spoke the fire that ignited the peace inside of the bullies. My voice didn t tremble, nor did my body. There was no need to be scared of them anymore. Even with the odds against me and all the terrible things that could have happened, I continue to be strong. Courage is knowing when to walk away and throw in the towel. It s when you stand up for what you believe in when the odds are not in your favor. Courage can either make or break you as a person. Admittedly, I never knew what courage meant until I stood in front of hundreds of people in an auditorium. I was a grain of sand and they were the sea, coming to consume every part of me. Brazil Power In South America Although, Brazil has not fully attained the international power that its leaders covet, Brazil s diplomatic capabilities through foreign policy, immense territorial size, and increasing economic power has allowed them to establish their current position as a rising international power. The foundation of Brazil s acquisition of dominance in the international community began during the 1990 s when President Fernando Henrique Cardoso opted to shift their foreign policy from autonomy through distance to autonomy through participation (Vigevani and Cepaluni, 2007, p. 1311). One of the most notable cause of tension stemmed from Brazil s desire to obtain a permanent seat on the United Nation Security Council being undermined from the U.S. s lack of support (Snow, 2014, p. 218). Wozzeck−perhaps the most frequently performed theatrical work in the atonal idom represents Berg s first attempt to deal within the framework of opera ( Alban Berg 1). He gained recognition as a composer of international standing but also a degree of financial stability (Jarman 319). A well known work for the violin was the Kammerkonzert. This song demonstrates Berg s love for intricate formal designs and his interest in using apparently abstract, mathematical schemes as structural determinants (Jarman 319). The Lyrische Suite for the string quartet was also one of Berg s compositions. It is the most completely documented demonstration of the extent to which such extra musical considerations act as compositional determinants (Jarman 319). Jarman says that Kammerkonzert and the Lyrische Suite are songs that mark Berg s gradual adoption of the 12 note sytem (319). Another famous opera work is Lulu. ANALYTICAL ESSAY How do individual differences (e.g., personality, value, perceptions, attitudes, motivation and performance) affect team dynamics? The importance of groups and teams have become a major focus in the business world today. Organizations have started to realize that the evolution from an individual to a team management approach is a priority in present day. The reality is that much of an organization s work is accomplished directly or indirectly through teams, which are used as means of growing effectiveness and efficiency. Conscientiousness refers to the degree to which a person is organized, systematic, punctual, achievement oriented, and dependable. Conscientiousness is the one personality trait that uniformly predicts how high a person s performance will be across a variety of occupations and jobs. This personality trait makes it easier to work in a team and keep all members on board. Once they are hired, conscientious people not only tend to perform well, but they also have higher levels of motivation to perform, lower levels of turnover, lower levels of absenteeism, and higher levels of safety performance at work. Extraversion is the degree to which a person is outgoing, talkative, sociable, and enjoys socializing. Extraverts do well in social situations, and, as a result, they tend to be effective in job interviews. Part of this success comes from preparation, as they are likely to use their social network to prepare for the interview. (Roberts, B. W., Walton, K. E., Viechtbauer, W,2006). Extraverts have an easier time than introverts do when adjusting to a new job. Moreover, they are not necessarily model employees. Although changes can be seen in the roles of every family member, it can be argued that the role of women in the family, especially that of mothers, changed the most. Between the sixteenth century and the twentieth century, the role that mothers played in the family and in society changed greatly. One common way in which the number of births was limited was by marrying late. Although this provided some reduction in the number of children a woman had, once she was married she would begin to have children at regular intervals. While in general women during this time period gave birth to many children, social class had an impact on just how many children a mother had. Prior to the nineteenth century, poor women had fewer children than wealthy women even though at the time their role was the same; to procreate. Some reasons as to why wealthy women had more children than poor women include health, loss of husbands, and breast feeding. Poorer women were less likely than wealthy women to have enough to eat. A lack of nutrients could result in amenorrhea and miscarriages as well as other reproductive problems. Also, with the staggering death rates, women were likely to lose their husbands before they reached menopause. While wealthy women would sometimes remarry for economic or social reasons, poor women would commonly remain widows. Finally, wealthy women were likely to put their babies out to wet nurses while poor women would usually nurse their own children. Of the mythological characters being used, the most prominent in the film are Thor, Odin, Frigg, Sif, and Heimdall. The contemporary depictions of these characters parallel and diverge their depictions in original old Norse mythology sources in numerous ways. These original sources include but are not limited to The Prose Edda by Snorri Sturluson and The Poetic Edda translated by Carolyne Larrington, both being revered and treasured by scholars and Norse fans alike. The contemporary portrayals of Norse mythological characters in the film Thor took the form they did for a variety of reasons, the foremost being Judeo Christian influence, followed by the objective to create a film that is contemporary and relatable to a wide demographic. In Marvel s 2011 film, Thor could be described as a cross between an alien, superhero, and a God. However according to Norse myth, he is a God that presides over the air, including wind, storms, rain, and therefore crop growth and fertility. He is the most valiant of the Gods despite his inevitable doom in Ragnarok; he is committed to protecting humanity, hyper masculine, and wields a powerful hammer that boomerang s back to him when he throws it and helps him in his duty to protect humanity against evil (Lindow 486 (Thor s Hammar)). Starting with an introduction of constitution the classifications will be described. Then giving a short history of UK constitution it will be followed by its sources. Then giving a summary of recent debates on this topic, essay will take form of arguments and concluding with my opinion. A constitution is mechanism of fundamental principles governing how members of a group or organisation should behave, who has the power etc. Any organisation from a small club to any biggest union can have a constitution. Conventions are also known named as customs and have no weight legally but politically acts as gravitational force in many decisions. Very basic example of a convention is that legally queen can refuse the royal assent to any bill, passed through parliament, however due to convention she does not. Many scholars have even debated on this like Dicey, Marshall and Jennings who said conventions are flesh on dry bones of law and oil to the wheels of law. 6 Should the constitution of UK be codified or not is a very deep and difficult argument. The basic theories for the constitution are Formalist and Substantive. Formalists say that the constitution should establish the government bodies and provide clear framework of rules so that individuals are clear about their rights and the way to act. Whereas Richard Epstein characterises Substantive theory that constitution should also be designing the fundamental values such as democracy and human rights and provide protection to individuals.7 There is a vast debate on topic that what should be added into the constitution and some basic and common points from arguments at a glance are ... According to scientific literature, typical symptoms of stuttering include prolongations of speech sounds, sound and syllable repetition, fast tempo, lengthy pauses, intrusion of irrelevant sounds, the use of interjections, and physical signs of struggle (Andrade et al., 2014). Suspected factors of influence include dopamine hyperactivity, disordered sensory feedback, linguistic deficits, anticipation of speech difficulties, generalized motor deficits, speech specific motor deficits, environmental factors, and genetic factors (Max et al., 2004). Currently, it is widely agreed upon that genetic factors have a substantial role in the aetiology of stuttering. Studies in twins have shown an increased rate of stuttering in monozygotic twins than in dizygotic twins 77% prevalence versus 32% prevalence (Felsenfeld et al., 2000). In addition to genetic factors, environmental factors include birth events, traumas or illnesses, stress, and peer influences (Felsenfeld et al., 2000). For the first time in history, commanders could see hundreds of miles past their own vision and develop strategies to counter enemy movements. Radar had enormous effects on the outcome of World War Two and was a determining factor in how naval and aerial strategy developed into what it is today. Applicable in both offensive and defensive strategies, radar can be used as an early warning device or as a helping mechanism for aerial bombers and naval ships to find their targets more effectively. Suddenly, poor weather conditions and the darkness of night were no longer problems for naval leaders and fighters. Radar allowed ship commanders and airman to see without light, and be more precise with their targets. The ability to attack at night was immensely different from previous wars. Previously, the darkness made fighting impossible due to lack of technology for targeting. With radar, this was now possible. To attack from the air or by ship at night was a formidable threat to ships and land bases. Radar was used to locate enemy ships and launch planes accurately from large distances. Attacking without ever seeing the enemy was also now a normal element to naval warfare. From using radar to launch planes at an enemy hundreds of miles away to using it to find the coordinates of enemy ships and using naval gunfire, seeing the actual enemy was no longer necessary. One instance where radar played a formidable role in an attack was at the battle of Midway. Midway was the turning point in the war where Japan lost two of their aircraft carriers due to radar locating their exact locations (Lambert). With this information American forces were able to send dive bombers to the exact coordinates to destroy the vital Japanese carriers. Also using radar for reconnaissance was a determining factor for the offensive campaigns. Being able to detect where the enemy is and where they are going to be made the planning of operations more adjustable to change. The use of radar required a broad communication chain in order to inform leaders of the findings. With the increased communications, radar findings could be announced to the whole fleet and its commanders. • 29. Rhetorical Analysis Of Queen Elizabeth Queen Elizabeth I is considered to be one of the most powerful women in history. In 1588, as ruler of England, she was faced with an invasion against Spain for control over trade in the new world. Her Against the Spanish Armada speech was addressed to the English Army at Tilbury Fort to help motivate and boost assurance, as well as showing support to her troops over the battle they were about to face. With her passionate words and courageous way, Queen Elizabeth establishes a connection with her soldiers; appealing to their patriotism and emotions through logos, pathos, and ethos. Although she was uncertain of a famous victory , Elizabeth instills the reassurance they need to fight against Spain and leading them to victory in the end. Elizabeth s relationship with her people is built on faith and love, not fear or tyranny. In the beginning of her speech she addresses the soldiers as My loving people. She refers to her troops as faithful and loving, showing the appreciation and loyalty that she has for her soldiers. She feels she must acknowledge the important bond between herself and her soldiers by showing them that she is not just a distant queen. To assure her troops of her faith in them, she uses logos in her speech to encourage her soldiers to fight for the good of England. For example, she lets them know by saying ... I have placed my chiefest strength and safeguard in the loyal hearts and good will of my subjects. She uses repetition of the word I and We to show that she is not just a queen but a fellow Englishman. ...to live or die amongst you all; to lay down, for my God, and for my kingdom, and for my people, my honor and my blood, even the dust , shows that she is a part of the people and will fight side by side with them to defend their country. This would be the first thing that her soldiers fight for, a people and ruler relationship that is bound by love and trust. After she established the bond, Elizabeth strengthens it with a promise and displays her own self courage. Women in power were not always great leaders, and were seen as weak in war. They built various temples for many of their gods, but only the two most honored had a temple at the top of the Templo Mayor, meaning temple major, which was located at the center of Tenochtitlan. The astounding pyramid was built in 1325 to honor the sun god Huitzilopochtli and the rain god Tlaloc (Ancient 1). The Templo Mayor is believed to have been around 300 ft. high with two temples at it s peak for their gods (McDowell 768). The Aztecs built many other pyramids with a temple at the top, but the factor that determined an important pyramid was if the pyramid had a roof made of wooden beams forming a point (Morgan 15). The average Aztec temple was approximately 200 ft. that rose in terraces with a broad stairway leading to the top (Morgan 15). Art for the Aztecs was a way to honor their gods, and for their own aesthetic pleasure. The artisans would organize themselves into guilds based on what they were skilled in. Through metalwork, the Aztecs would make metal objects by beating thin pieces of gold, silver, or copper, or they would make ornaments and jewelry by pouring molten gold into basic molds. Their lapidaries carved and polished bright colored gems, such as jade, turquoise, and quartz, to create mosaics and jewelry, or to decorate objects such as clothing and weapons. The last form of art the Aztecs practiced was pottery, which was not made with a wheel but with simple tools. Women would use ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 39. Urinetown Costumes Analysis The costume design of Urinetown, done by Geraldine Brodt, not only uses the costumes of the main four characters in order to emphasize their class status but also uses colors of the outfits to demonstrate thematic importance within the grand scheme of the musical. Urinetown, The Musical has music composed and lyrics by Mark Hollman, book and lyrics by Greg Kotis, and the Brockport production is directed by Ruth Childs, scenic design by P. Gibson Ralph, lighting design by Gary Thomas Musante, costume design by Geraldine Brodt, and sound design by Paul Schreiner. The costumes of Bobby Strong and Miss Pennywise differ quite greatly from Hope Cladwell and Mr. Cladwell in showing visually what social class they occupy. Miss Pennywise, the woman ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... She is a brunette with mid length curly hair. Compared to a character like Miss Pennywise, Hope s hair is able to flow naturally without being tied up, showing she doesn t do much hard work that would need her to tie her hair back. She also wears a knee length sapphire blue dress with short sleeves, a keyhole neckline, with the dress tying around her neck in a bow. She also wears a pair of black high heels. Heels and a clean dress are things that the poor people in the city aren t able to afford or wear, showing her wealth. However, by the second act after Hope becomes the leader of the rebellion after Bobby s death, she adds a few new pieces to her outfit in order to convey her new allegiance to the disenfranchised poor people. One thing she puts on during the We re Not Sorry number is a white bandana around her forehead, tying it in the back much like what is seen on people practicing karate, and thus showing Hope as a fighter and not simply someone who benefits from being rich. The final piece of clothing she puts on is during the final song, I See a River, where she drapes herself in a light blue flag. As she dances and moves her arms, it billows behind her like a cape, or a river, much as she sings about in the song. With these two costume additions to Hope during the second act, it solidifies her shift in siding with the high class and her father to siding with the people to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 40. Siddhartha Gautama Was A Great Leader Siddhartha Gautama was the son of a king, pampered like a prince who abandoned the life of desire to pursue Enlightenment. When I lived in Nepal, I went to school and studied Buddhism. There I learned about his life and the philosophies he kept in practices. Also, I learned that he was a great leader, and his great ideas such as the Four Noble Truths, Eightfold path, Nirvana, fundamental wisdoms, the theory of karma and rebirth, the five precepts and Wheel of Dharma has influenced many people. I learned about his great achievement and how he was able to create a whole new religion, which is now known as the fourth largest religion in the world, by influencing people through his practices and philosophy. From this experience, I learned firsthand that he is a great religious leader who left a legacy not just on Nepalese culture, but on the whole world. The founder of Buddhism was a man named Siddhartha Gautama. He was born in Nepal, just where I was. To be more specific he was born in a prominent garden of Lumbini which soon rehabilitated to a place of pilgrimage. Even then it wasn t sure that he was really born in Lumbini, it was a predication. Some Buddhist from last some century had interrogated about the Siddhartha Gautama birth story, but sighting them on confident ground when it rises to the later history of Lumbini (Irons). This was proven by the memorial pillars there, which was created by Indian emperor Ashoka. • 41. Snow By Louis Macneeice Essay A poem is an experience, not a thought. It is an experience both the author and the reader share with one another. Authors of poems use tones, keywords, hidden messages, irony, and diction to create their work. They use these tactics so the reader thinks about what they are reading and try evaluating what the message is that the reader wants to get across. In the poem Snow by Louis MacNeice, he uses these same characteristics to get the readers mind active in the words. Let s examine the poem Snow and see what the meaning behind this poem is. To begin thinking about this poem, we should stop and try to imagine the background of the poem. A tone could include mysterious, since the meaning is not seen right away, but it could also be thoughtful because he allows us to think in a different way. We know there is a main character which could be the author, but are not given his name. The setting is at a house where the first snowfall is mixing with the flowers left from the summertime. The time period is not given to us in the poem, so we are unsure of that. Finally, when thinking about why MacNeice wrote this poem we can see there is a connection between the weather he is seeing outside and the world around us. The title is very simple and can cause any reader to think the same thing. Snow according the Merriam Webster Dictionary, the word snow has one main definition. Snow is the precipitation in the form of small white crystals formed directly from the water vapor of the air at a temperature less than 32 degrees. In other words, it is the frozen crystals that fall from the sky during the winter season. Just by the title we should be able to tell what the poem will be about, but MacNeice puts a turn on the wording of the poem to catch the reader off guard. This raises the question if MacNeice wanted the poem to be about a snowfall, or does he have a deeper meaning underneath the title? As the poem continues there will be more references at what the poem is about. The first sentence gives the reader an oxymoron to think about. MacNeice talks about spawning snow, which we could figure out from the title, but he also includes the thought of spawning pink roses against a window. This can be confusing to ... • 42. Why Is Austerity A Dangerous Idea I decided to read the book, Austerity: The History of a Dangerous Idea by Mark Blyth, which is about the turn to austerity in economic policy. The author argues that austerity is a dangerous idea for three main reasons: Austerity cannot work in practice. It imposes a disproportionate burden on poorer households. And, it ignores the fallacy of composition that says that all countries cannot be austere simultaneously. This book is among the best descriptions of our path to crisis and it is highly recommended to anyone who wants to understand the current economic situation in Ireland. • 44. Sidney Bechet Impact On Jazz From Bechet to Marsalis: The Evolution of Jazz Jazz: An overview In the 20th century, Jazz was one of the most expressive forms of music around, as it was just starting out and was born in a time where victims of oppression were beginning to stand up and rebel. In comparison to classical music, Jazz is a very new genre of music. It s evolution is vividly evident in it s contrast of instrumentation, dynamics, and the introduction of modal jazz which I will discuss later on in this essay. One of the first jazz virtuoso s that appeared and had a significant influence on jazz, was Sidney Bechet, on clarinet and saxophone. 20th Century New Orleans Sidney Bechet (1897 1959) Born into a middle class family in New Orleans, Louisiana, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... With this popularity, jazz musicians decided to form larger ensembles, known as Big Bands . These big bands would typically consist of trumpets, saxophones, trombones, drums, bass (or double bass), piano and would usually have a soloist. These bands were like the symphony orchestras of jazz. A few of the most popular big bands would ve been led by Chick Webb, Paul Whiteman, Glenn Miller, Ted Lewis and an all female big band named Helen Lewis and her all girl jazz syncopaters . The popularity of these groups was astounding. They were selling out venues everywhere and going on regular tours across America. These bands would have some impeccably skilled jazz musicians as soloist s also such as Bix Beiderbecke and Dizzy Gillespie. One big band that stood out from this era would be Benny Goodman s big band. Their popularity was almost unbelievable. Benny himself was widely known as the King of Swing and had some of the most dedicated fans at the time. Radio was the most important aspect for Benny as his recordings would be heard by a wider audience. This ultimately led to the crazy fan base he gained. For example, in their performance at the Stanley Theatre, it was reported that most of the audience were dancing down the aisles to the music. People had never experienced music like this before. It was almost like an explosion of life and freedom, caused by a wave of new and exciting music. Goodman s performance at ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
