The Influence Of The English Language
French is the eleventh most widely spoken language in the world. It is the official language of
33 countries in the world and it is spoken in two of the G7 countries. 200 million people around
the world understand, speak, read or write French and the language is the mother tongue of 75
million people. French is the official language of postal services across the world and is one of the
official languages of the International Red Cross. The French speaking Africa represents an area
larger than the USA. French is the most widely taught second language after English and over
20,000 English words have their origins in French. In terms of number of words, French is the
second largest language after English. In the humanities and the social sciences many of the most
important writings have come from France.
Students and researchers who know French have access to these works for several years before
they are translated into English. Many significant works are never translated and remain accessible
only to those who know the language.
Historically France and the French language have had an enormous influence over American
society. France was the United States first ally. French thought played a dominant role among the
founders of the United States in the 18th century, and it continues to shape America today through
the influence of such intellectual currents as post structuralism and post modernism. In the
humanities and the social sciences, many of the most important writings have

Salutary Neglect In America
Salutary Neglect Between 1690 and 1760, the colonist went to little problems from the British.
Salutary Neglect was an idea which could be beneficial to the colonies. The concept of this idea
was that America could experience self government and people could make their own rules. The
Salutary Neglect make the colonies violate the Navigation Act and allowed the colonies to feel
being independent. The colonies had their own legislatures which made their own laws.
Proclamation of 1763 was ordered on October 9,1763 by King George III, which was after Britain
obtained French territory in America. The job was to create a newly gained territory in America
and get a better relationship between the natives and the Europeans. They achieve this goal by
regulating trade, settlement and buying land on the western frontier. The colonist thought that if
they had fought a war to defend the land makes it theirs. The British wanted the colonist to maintain
control of the land. The colonist used to move west of the proclamation line as a form of rebellions
that foreshadowed the American Revolution.
Iroquois Confederacy was a band of five tribes from upper New York in the 17th and 18th century.
The representatives were the Cayuga, Onondaga, Oneida, Mohawk and Seneca which they call
themselves the people of the lighthouse . The group was identified by non aggression pact between
the five tribes, recognition of shared concern which brought them closer. The complex of the group

A Study On Seismic Wave
CHAPTER 2
REVIEW OF LITRETURE
2.1 Introduction
Most of today s producing naturally fractured reservoirs were discovered accidentally, they were
found by somebody who are looking for some other type of reservoir. Significant volume of
hydrocarbon resides in these reservoirs. But these are abandoned particularly in fields because
improper testing and evolution or because the wells did not intersect the natural fractures (Aguilera,
1998). Attempts have been made to quantify properties of such reservoir (Chaki et al., 2014). It has
been long recognized that the presence of naturally occurring fracture network can lead to
unpredictable heterogeneity and anisotropy within many reservoirs. In past geophysicists acquired
and processed P wave reflection data at short offset, which automatically implied relatively small
angular ray coverage. So seismic anisotropy, which is defined as directional dependence of elastic
properties of earth remains unnoticed. But with the advance of methodologies, acquiring long
offset and multi component data become feasible and cost effective, anisotropy showed up. Seismic
wave propagation in heterogeneous medium is discussed by Chabak et al., 2012. On a smaller
scale, stresses in the Earth can cause rock to fracture in a consistent manner. If these fractures are
aligned, the rock will be anisotropic with the fast direction parallel to the fractures and the slow
direction perpendicular to them. In ideal cases, these observations can provide

Swot Analysis Of Skullcandy
Shakera Butler
BUA450
Skullcandy Skullcandy was founded in 2003 by Rick Alden in Park City, Utah. The idea came to
him in 2001 when he was riding on a ski lift while listening to music. His phone rang and he had to
change his headphones over to the phone. That s when he told himself he wished there was
headphones that you could use both on a Mp3 player and a cell phone. In 2002, he created his
first prototype called Link, that were a hit. His company grew fast that he started to make
headphones to go inside helmets, MP3 equipped backpacks, and watches. Today you will also find
Bluetooth speakers and gaming headsets.
Strengths
Alden was one the first people to create a microphone and a button on the headphones that allowed
individuals to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The main weakness of Skullcandy is that they struggle to maintain grown. At one point of time,
there were so many orders coming in that production could barely keep up. It was also hard for
them to come out with new designs while trying to fix minor glitches in other products, and keep
up with production. Up until a couple of years ago, Skullcandy only had two suppliers; core
channels and big box retailers. They cared about loyalty and reputation to their core channels of
specialty shops. With these stores, there isn t a lot of them so most of their sales came from
retailers, and if that fails the company can too.
Opportunities
Skullcandy can expand their company to across the world. Beats by Dr. Dre is being sold
international through Apple. If Skullcandy explores the new markets and the developing ones, it
could exceed the company. There is a constant demand for headphones every day, they seem to
be essential to people s life. Just like any other headphone company there always wants for new
designs and products. Apple s iPhone is always changing every year, and everybody gets all
excited for it. They have changed from headphone with a cord to wireless headphone pods that
you just stick in your ear. With new products and production comes materials. Materials to produce
headphones such as copper have risen in price. Skullcandy and other companies have the power to
negotiate it lower. More cheaper materials, the more products they can produce and

Black Bears And The Black Bear
A typical West Michigan backyard has tendencies to be a visiting place from some of nature s
finest species. A raccoon, opossum, or even white tailed deer is very likely. A new likely
species? A black bear. The imagination of seeing one of the most potentially dangerous species
is actually becoming a reality in many locations all over the area. Many have reported aggressive
tendencies from the black bear population. Reports of attacks are emerging throughout the state.
Some experts say there is no trend of black bears migration to more southern areas of the state,
yet others have projected that Indiana and Illinois will have some sort of black bear population.
For the moment, it seems as if we won t have to prepare ourselves for black bears, but the future
may hold new residents to the southern counties of Michigan. Black bears are being spotted
almost everyday in territories that are somewhat surprising. The concern for other species are
now taking place, and questions are being asked about the risk of other local species. Is there a
trend of black bears migrating south? Each year there are seems to be more evidence that black
bears are on the move to the southern part of the state. Michigan Radio reports that this a trend
for the past 5 to 10 years for young male black bears to roam south (As spring begins, para. 5).
Even though there are growing numbers of sightings, many can conclude they won t be established
in West Michigan for quite some time. If a time comes to

Taking a Look at the Ipad Mini
Tablet Computer IPAD MINI Tablet PC is another mobile PC for mobile users. The tablet form
factor is typically smaller than a notebook computer but larger than a smart phone. It is highly
compact and easy to carry. Tablet PC mainly uses the screen for both input and output. Additional
features may include speakers, microphones and cameras. It is a wireless personal computerin the
form of a notebook and that allows a user to hand write notes with a stylus or digital pen on a
touch screen. Most tablets are slightly smaller and weigh less than the average laptop. While
some tablets include fold out keyboards, others, such as the Apple I Pad, only offer touch screen
input. Many tablets now support multi touch input, which allows you to perform gestures with
multiple fingers, such as pinching an image to zoom out, or spreading your fingers apart to
zoom in. Tablets without physical keyboards allow you to enter text using a pop up keyboard
that appears on the screen. Since tablets do not use a traditional keyboard and mouse as their
primary forms of input, the user interface of a tablet is different than a typical laptop. For
example, instead of double clicking to open a program, most applications open with a single tap.
Instead of clicking on a scroll bar to scroll through a window, most tablet applications allow you to
swipe up and down anywhere within a window to scroll through the content. Since tablet PCs
provide a different interface than traditional computers, they

The Problem Of Homeless Families
Homeless Families
Before I began the research I had already known that single parent homelessness is a n extremely
emotional and heart breaking problem. In seventh grade my family and I went on vacation to
New York City and I remember seeing a good of homeless people on street corners, but what
surprised me the most was seeing younger people who appeared homeless. It s a obvious answer, I
m against homelessness and family homelessness even more. It truly is heartbreaking to see little
children who are forced to grow up because their parents cannot provide for the family. It s like
animal shelter commercials, only the heartless can t feel for them. That s what makes it interesting,
how they do it and live their lives without a home. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
These families live together in any shelter they can find. They try to get a spot in shelters but
there is not enough shelter space to fit every homeless family so they have to resort to living on
the streets. The reason I say that it is socially underrated is because the money dedicated is
falling, how can a problem be fixed if the needed resources begin to disappear? In the words of
the National Coalition for the Homeless, the federal support for low income housing has fallen
forty nine percent from 1980 to 2003 (National Low Income Housing Coalition, 2005). Even if
family homelessness is a subtopic of the extremely broad topic of homeless does not mean that it
isn t important, however it still sits in the shadow of general homelessness. In the first source,
Homeless Families with Children , published by the National Coalition for the homeless in July
of 2009, I found many statistics related the dimensions, causes, consequences, and policy issues
about family homelessness. This article mainly consisted of logical appeals with very little
emotion added into the article. One of the most eye opening logical appeals used in the article is
the ratio of homeless children to kids with homes. The National Center on Family Homelessness
estimates, that one in 50 children in the United States are homeless. (1) This really shows that
family homeless really is a rising problem in the United States. So wouldn t more job openings fix

Personal Narrative about Skiing Essay
The coat of armor I adorned, made of down feathers and a nylon shell, yielded no protection
against the daggers of that cold winter air. As I peered out toward the horizon, I saw nothing but
tree tops, and some snow capped mountain tops in the distance. With my feet bound to freshly
waxed skis, the only thing stronger than my skipoles was my determination to get down the
mountain.
I turned to my right, only to see the immediate drop off of the ski slope. As I crept up a little
closer to the edge, I noticed an incline that before now was only known to me through pictures of
cliff diving, or an exaggerated road runner and coyote cartoon.
With a deep breath of that icy cold air that seemed endless at the time, I pushed myself off the ...

Now, a little bit of pressure onto my right leg, and I m back on my original course. I see a tree
that was once in the far off distance, now rapidly approaching with speed of an oncoming train.
With a look of confusion that I can only describe as the look of a deer in the headlights, I twisted
my body to the right in hopes to avoid the oncoming danger, that devil dressed in the needles of a
blue spruce.
As my upper body shifted to the right, everything from my waist and below stayed true to the
course, including the ski poles. I ran over the handle of my ski pole, with my stomach. The pole
was pushed up into my lower abdomen, propelling me off of the slope entirely, I was airborne. I
landed on my back, completely out breath, and dazed to the point I had no recollection of where
I was. The next moment was particularly scary for me, all I can recall was the ringing of a
whistle in my ear, and the red lights flashing from the ski patrols snowmobiles. Unsure of any
injuries, the ski patrol had braced my back and neck, strapped me to a board, and began to tow me
down the mountain.
I spent the next three hours in the lodge under the watchful eye of a very pleasant paramedic,
who prescribed me the perfect blend of warm blankets and hot chocolate. The throbbing pains
finally ceased, and I was able to stand up under my own power. I slowly staggered out the door,
eternally grateful to the paramedics and ski patrol that came to my

##titudes Of Civilization In William Golding s Lord Of The...
We all consider ourselves civilized. We think this because we are sophisticated and cultured, and
have laws and order. In Lord of the Flies, William Golding explores a scenario where schoolboys
enter a lawless and orderless paradise. Through his depiction of characters, Jack, Roger, and the
naval officer, he reveals his attitudes towards civilizationand civilized behavior. Golding shows that
civilization and society are only masks, a constraint for human s true selves because no one is truly
civilized, but instead innately uncivilized and savage.
From the beginning of the novel, Golding uses Jack Merridew s development and actions to
present his attitudes of civilizations and its constraints. Jack begins as a normal choir boy, with
respect to rules and against uncivilized behavior: We ve got to have rules, and obey them. After
all, we re not savages. We re English and the English are best at everything. (42) He believes in
civilized actions and following rules, which is continually contrasted by his behavior in later
chapters. He neglects his duty to keep the signal fire going, and he doesn t follow the rules of
the conch. However, the one duty he doesn t neglect to do, is hunting. But the way Jack feels
about doing it, does change. Jack, Simon, and Ralph all go on the first adventure trip of the island,
and they find a pig without even searching for one, but it is Jack s responsibility to hunt and kill it,
as he was designated as one of the hunters. However, he

Descriptive Essay On The Day Of A Dog
The turbulent winds smashed into my face as I struggled to pull my dog to the cover of the
large oak tree. All of a sudden, a large gust of wind lifted my dog into the air, snapping her old
and tattered leash! I screamed in horror as she was flung into the choppy river. Stunned, I could
only watch in panic as my dog s head bobbed up and down in the water, while she frenetically tried
to keep herself afloat...
Unaware of the dreadful events that were about to unfold later in the day, I rolled over in my cozy
bed, but was abruptly shaken out of my tranquil sleep by the sound of my dogs shrill, loud bark
and the slivers of light which pierced through my eyelids. Drowsily, I opened my eyes to see my
little dog anxiously circling around my rumpled bed. I looked out of the ever so slightly tinted
window at the rising sun and wondered to myself why I wake up early to walk my dog. I got out of
bed and quickly put on my clothes as I know that the deafening bark will prolong due to her
urgency to ease herself. I walked over to the window hoping for a sudden change in the weather so
I could go back to sleep, as my dog hates to go out on rainy days, but to my dismay it was still a

the sound of the bustling traffic from the busy city. The soothing splashing sounds, which came

busy city noise. Which created a peaceful safe haven for many little creatures. Sporadically, calm
winds blew through the park, causing the thin carpet of leaves on the ground to flutter and dance

The Importance Of Medieval Music
We ask ourselves, does medieval music need to be protected against certain types of scholarly
approaches? In the 14th century to 15th century it was important for the people to follow certain
approaches and interpretations with music. Many men and women withdrew from the materialistic
world, and devoted themselves to church; they devoted themselves to lives of prayer or theology.
In, Elizabeth Eva Leach s article, Gendering the Semitone, Sexing the Leading Tone: Fourteenth
Century MusicTheory and the Directed Progression, Reading and Theorizing Medieval Music
Theory: Interpretation and Its Contexts, and in Sarah Fuller s article, Concerning Gendered
Discourse in Medieval Music Theory: Was the Semitone Gendered Feminine? these summaries

life for people living in the 14th century through 15th century . These authors both have a different
viewpoint of how masculinity and feminine were influenced under the power of the church and
composers who exemplified these ideals, and brought the compositions out of church and spread it
across Western Europe. They both agreed that music and semitones were influenced by gender, but
disagreed how feminine and masculine affected people in a certain approach. Music of the
medieval era included liturgical music used for church and chants, and consisted a lot of voice
exchanges from instruments and choral music. Composers had a strict way

Compare and Contrast Any Two Theories of Leadership Essay
Compare and contrast any two theories of leadership
In the following essay I will look at leadership, its definition and compare and contrast two theories
behind it. I will firstly see if there is a distinction between leadership and management as suggested
by John
Kotter(1990) who goes on further to stress that organisations require both a leader and a manager
but the function can be provided by a single individual. I will then look at some definitions of
leadership such as that by Bryman(1999), The process of influencing the activities of an organized
group in its efforts toward goal setting and goal attainment . The two leadership theories which I
will compare and contrast are transactional and transformational. I will also ... Show more content

Transactional leadership relies on the workers behaviour being influenced by means of reward by
the leader.
There is co dependency between the leader and the worker, one has to offer the other something
for a desired outcome. A real life example of transactional leadership is the use of commission in
the sales industry. Performance to the leader s requirement or expectation is rewarded. This could
be seen as one of the advantages of this type of leadership, that is it provides a clear idea of what is
required. Watch any episode of the BBC television programme The Apprentice and this theory is
clearly demonstrated throughout. The main disadvantage becomes clear, the assumption is
everyone is motivated by monetary rewards and this is simply untrue.
In contrast transformational leadership is the infusion of motivation and inspiration into the
workers to do the work by their leader as suggested by Anita(2008) You have to look at
leadership through the eyes of the followers and you have to live the message. What I have
learned is that people become motivated when you guide them to the source of their own power
and when you make heroes out of employees who personify what you want to see in the
organisation. The election campaign that was run by the now US President,
Barak Obama, was transformational. Obama influenced the voters with his charisma and motivated
them by addressing issues that appealed to them. This highlights

Essay on Smoke signals
The movie Smoke Signal is a story that portrays what a Native American really means. It is a
movie based on story written by Sherman Alexie. Thomas is the narrator of the story. It s just not
a simple movie but it has meaning to it, which is the best thing about the movie. It shows the life
of Indians and how their life was and what they had to deal with. The movie has two main
characters name Victor and Thomas. The movie starts with a house that goes on fire and the man
(Arnold Joseph) Victor s father saves Thomas and Victor from the fire Victor the main character
plays the role of a typical Indian who has hatred towards his father for leaving him and his mother

he was a baby, his dad always wanted to help him and he did went back to save his life. This hits on
his mind and he decides to get help for the lady. His thoughts about his dad changes. At the end of
the movie Victor disperses the remains of his father in the river and forgives him for what he did
before.
I really like the movie and the story was very different than any other movies. Sherman s way of
writing the stories seems very unique and could not tell what would happen next in the movie.
When Victor knew about his father s death I was thinking he would not go to Phoenix to get his
remains since he had hatred towards him but he decides to go which was surprising. It was always
funny how Thomas kept telling stories about different stuffs to Victor even though he knew Victor
don t like to hear them. The author has tried to show the culture of Indians, the thoughts of people,
how they dealt their life through his stories which I really found interesting and something
different to learn. The author has showed how life was back then and I liked the fact he tried to
show what impact it can have to a child s mind if he sees his father drinking alcohol and tormenting
his mother

Analysis Of Ihara Saikaku s Life Of A Sensuous Woman, And...
In Ihara Saikaku s story, Life of a Sensuous Woman, and Mary Wollstonecraft s work, Vindication
of the Rights of Woman , the issue of double standards in gender are examined. Both pieces offer
a perspective into the lives of women during their respective times and show how some standards
that are considered favorable for men, are looked down upon for women. In particular, the two
works examine how women were treated differently based on their education, their social status
and even their sexual history. Saikaku looks at these issues in a different lens from Wollstonecraft,
based on his experiences as a man living in Japan in the 17th century. Their experiences shape their
works and show how the issue of double standards of genderspan culture, time and geography.
In Wollstonecraft s work, she addresses the differences between men and women as being
something that should be considered negligible, but instead is used to practically enslave one half
of the population. The work details how women are akin to playthings when they lack an
education, and that for her to truly be herself and practice her own free will, she must be
knowledgeable. However, there are many different kinds of education, Wollstonecraft points out.
Men received a formal education, consisting of a proper teaching of many subjects, while also
aiding the young men in personal growth. Women, on the other hand, received a much less formal
education. In their day to day lives, women observed, they leeched off

My Reflection Of Leadership
During my last spring semester at Fort Hays State University, I became aware that in order to
finish my bachelor s degree, I would have to take one more class prior to walking across the
stage at graduation in May. At that time, I was just ready to be done, so I hoped for something
fast and easy. When I saw the requirements for this class, I knew that wasn t going to be the case
at all. I saw the number of books I would read and the number of papers I would write and I am
not going to lie, I felt like I was going to be overwhelmed. However, when this class started, I
became more excited about it. I received my books and skimmed through briefly and could not
wait to get my nose into them. Each one sounded like something I could gain great knowledge
from. My greatest expectation from this class was to be able to develop myself both
professionally and personally. Before I ever started taking classes in Leadership Studies, there
was so much I didn t know about myself. I was always shy and thought of myself as more of a
follower than a leader. Ever since I started taking these leadership courses, I have learned that I
can be both a follower and a leader, depending on the situation. This class, I hoped, would further
educate me not only in more about leadership, but more about myself and who I could be. Along
with what I ve learned about myself, in this final reflection paper, I will also explain what really
worked for me in this specific course, new knowledge that I have

Great Expectations Analysis
Every character was written has a backstory that contributes to the plot. In Charles Dickens ,
Great Expectations, every character from Pip to Molly has a secret that adds to the storyline.
Great Expectations sets in the early nineteenth century, therefore social class is everything.
Passed down from generation to generation, family businesses have kept the family from moving
up in society. For Pip, the protagonist, that s all he truly wants; Pip wants to become a
gentleman and become worthy of his love, Estella, despite being a poor orphan and an
apprentice of a blacksmith. Similar to Dickens rough childhood, Pip didn t want this family or
their struggle to define him. However, even the rich have their problems. For example, Miss
Havisham lets her past affects how she lives on a day to day basis. One unfortunate event has led
her to live her life in sorrow and depression and it affects everyone around her, especially her
adopted daughter, Estella. Even, the convict, Abel Magwitch, lets his past encounters command his
future actions. Under the consequences, Charles Dickens, characters from Great Expectations, like
Pip, Miss Havisham, Estella, and Magwitch, have all let their past affect their future, as a result, the
plot.
It all started with Dickens himself, he had a rough childhood that was somewhat similar to the
main character, Pip. Both were raised in England and put to work at a very young age. However,
Dickens had parents, but his father was in prison and his

Agriculture In America
Agriculture is our wisest pursuit, because it will in the end contribute most to real wealth, good
morals and happiness. Thomas Jefferson. Education and agriculture have always been a major key
in the lives of many Americans. In early years many Americans lived on family farms producing
food and fiber. Planting and harvest times determined when children would attend schoolbecause
older siblings needed to be home to assist with crops. Most food came from family farms instead of
a grocery store, as they do now. Today s youth have no idea how difficult growing and harvesting
crops for a family truly is. Millions of people depend on farmers for their food source. So how do
we create farmers? The easiest way is to introduce students to... Show more content on

Moving For Children
Moving is a stressful time for everyone, but it is especially daunting for children who may not
fully understand what is happening. Easing the transition for young children makes moving a
smoother and happier process for all involved. Here are some tips for helping your kids adjust to
the moving process.
Toys and Treasures
While moving is a great time to clean house and get rid of clutter, think twice before donating
unused toys. Instead, pack them up and place them in storage. This way you ll have then after your
move and can reintroduce them to your children in the new home. Finding old treasures in the new
home lends comfort to children.
Pack Smart
Wait as long as you can to pack up your children s favorite toys since they will need something to
play with throughout the move. When you do start packing toys, do so when your children are
sleeping or away from home. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
While there is nothing wrong with adding some new decor, it is comforting for children to have
their familiar bed and bedroom furniture in the new home. If possible, try to arrange your child s
bedroom furniture the same way in the new home as it was in the old one.
Unpack With Purpose
Focus on unpacking and organizing your kid s bedrooms first. This allows them to have a homey,
comfortable space immediately in the new home. When you begin unpacking the rest of the house,
do so methodically. Only unpack what you can put away immediately. Unpacking too soon is
chaotic and results in stressful clutter. Find a home for everything you unpack as soon as you take
it out of the box.
Perhaps the most crucial trick for moving with children is to stay as calm and upbeat as possible.
Your children take their cues from you, so project a confident and happy demeanor about your
move. Soon you will all be comfortably settled into your new home and resuming your old

Essay on The Role of Media During the Vietnam War
During the Vietnam War, Americans were greatly influenced by the extensive media coverage of
the war. Before the 1960 s and the intensification of the war, public news coverage of military
action was constrained heavily by the government and was directed by Government policy. The
Vietnam War uniquely altered the perception of war in the eyes of American citizens by bringing
the war into their homes. The Vietnam War was the first U.S uncensored war resulting in the
release of graphic images and unaltered accounts of horrific events that helped to change public
opinion of the war like nothing it had ever been. This depiction by the media led to a separation
between the United Statesgovernment and the press; much of what was reported flouted... Show

After a disastrous battle in 1963, in which the U.S. had lost numerous helicopters and their aboard
crew, the press identified strategic blunder and saw reluctant Vietnamese infantrymen as the reason
for the failed mission. The U.S. government tried to depict the mission as successful, indicating a
major point of divide between the government and the media, the media turned to the word of
angry South Vietnamese officials, angry U.S advisors, and hostile American pilots who risked their
lives daily without recognition as their basis of evidence regarding the incident and incidents to
come. Another question was left to be raised, where were these televised materials coming from?
In accordance with the actual content; much of what was recorded was done by the US Army
photographic agency beginning after much controversy caused by the filming of burning the
village of Cam Ne by American troops.
Furthermore, Americans placed trust in the presence of pictures, for they could see it happen.
Because it was a visual medium, television depicted the raw horror of war and primarily focused
on the negative. In addition, media recognized the potential for television to exploit the war s

The Pros And Cons Of Edward Snowden
Influential resources
The question as to whether Edward Snowden is a patriot or a traitor can most certainly be deemed a
debatable topic. To answer this question, one must conduct thorough, wide ranging exploration
using outstanding source materials to gain a high degree of insight, analysis and review.
An exceptional source is an article from SIGCAS Computers Society which is the ACM Special
Interest Group that addresses the social and ethical consequences of widespread computer usage .
It is a reliable source as it specializes on such topics (SIGCAS Computers Society. 2017).
This article focusses on Snowden s intentions and the impact of his actions on the NSA,
discussing both sides of the case. He wholeheartedly believes his intentions are good, but the
consequences will both harm and help the people and country he loves. (Verble, J, 2014). This is
the key message of this source; there are both, positive and negative outcomes of the case which
must be considered for one to make an informed opinion as to whether he is a patriot or a traitor.
The author conveys a neutral viewpoint on the Snowden case. What would really sour the opinion
of the American public is if Snowden leaked information to the Chinese or Russians. In an
interview with The New York Times in October 2013, Snowden claimed he took no documents to
Russia because it wouldn t serve the public interest, and that all documents were distributed to
journalists in Hong Kong. (Verble, J, 2014). Here,

Marxism And The Communist Manifesto
The debate between how society is formed and how it should be formed has always been a point
of contention among people. When a society is formed, there is a constant struggle between the
proletariat, the working class population, and the bourgeoisie, the upper class of society with
significant capital. One of the better known ideologies is Marxism, which explains how a nation
should form itself to develop a communist society. Karl Marxillustrates his ideas of Marxism in The
Communist Manifesto. A point of controversy within the Communist Manifesto addresses how
nationalism does not help form the communist state but rather rhetorically seeks to deny the sense
of nationality. The writings of Benedict Anderson are about how the nation state manifests itself
through the spread of nationalism in his book, Imagined Communities. In Anderson s book,
nationalism helps create a community and a sense of unique identity for the population within that
community. Marxism shares a common ground with Anderson s imagined political community,
despite denying the existence of nationalism within the emergence of communist communities.
Marxism denies the emergence of nationalism when describing the collective actions of the working
class. First off, the proletariat have an imagined community, meaning that everyone in it shares a
deep comradeship with each other (Anderson 7). The Communist Manifesto states how
Communists are further reproached with desiring to abolish countries and

The American Foundation For The Blind
Reading is done by a good majority of everyone, most every day. How many words does a person
read in one day? That answer differs person to person. One could be a publisher, book critic,
reading for a living; or one could be a plumber or carpenter and still do some instructional reading,
but much less than the aforementioned occupations. Readingis an essential skill in our daily lives.
Blind individuals have Braille script to read, and there also are those that also have technology
able read aloud to them. Regardless of how reading is done, it is used by everyone in many
ways. There are quite a few factors that can affect how well a person can read. The American

The Last Of The Tudor Dynasty Essay
Nicknamed the Virgin Queen, I, Elizabeth Tudor, have been the one of the longest reigning and
most beloved monarchs of my time. Married to my duty, my people and my country, longing for
no other love, though this means I am to be the last of the Tudor dynasty. Calculated, cunning,
beautiful and brilliant, my life, and reign will be spoken of for years to come. Though born into
royalty, life has been turbulent to say the least, from a young age being shown the wonders and
terrors of the throne. Throughout the span of my life moving from princess, to lady to Queen,
showing that women can indeed be great rulers is a significant consequence of my rule. In order
to understand and appreciate my reign as Queen one must examine my childhood, rise to the
throne and the accomplishments of my rule. My father, Henry VIII had three children, my elder
sister Mary, myself and youngest Edward . Both Edward and I grew up Protestant and without
mothers so we grew quite close. At the age of four Katherine Champernowne, later to become
Katherine Ashley, became my primary caretaker. Katherine was a well educated woman whose
affection and kindness greatly influenced me throughout my life. My third step mother was
Catherine Howard, who was attentive and often playful. The first public dinner with her she had
me sit beside her, a great honor, it was a momentous occasion for my young self. Unfortunately she,
like my own mother, was condemned to death for adultery, when I was only eight years old.

August Wilson Fences Analysis
Fences by August Wilson
August Wilson is ranked as one of the critical voices in American theatre. His plays are a
revelation of remarkable talent that mentions on the African American lifestyle and experience and
simultaneously creates a global appeal. Fences, one of his plays is a reflection of his rhetorical
aims of using art in changing the existing relationship between the blacks and society as proof that
the African Americanculture is fit for offering sustenance.
Fences by August Wilsongets its title from the main character, Troy. In the beginning, he builds a
fence for his wife as he engages in a conversation with Bono, his friend. The fence is completed
by the end of Act 1 and Bono, and his wife had previously placed a bet that he would buy her a
new refrigerator if the fence would be successfully built. Set up in Pittsburgh, PA on an African
American section between the late 1950s and 1960s, the play rotates around father and son
conflict. Troy is a garbage collector of African American origin and was once a famous ballplayer
within the Negro Leagues before inclusion of the blacks in the American leagues. His son Cory has
a talent for athletics sports and targets to win a college scholarship from football.
Cory pleads with his father to allow him to quit his job at the grocery store to be fully involved
in football. Nevertheless, his father does not accept which bars Cory from joining the high
school team. This shows that Troy is not sensitive to Cory s wish, but on the contrary, he has the
will to fight for his rights which sees him rise to become a garbage truck driver in the city. It is
sad that he denies his son the opportunity of becoming a sportsperson. To make matters worse,
Troy cheats on his wife Rose but show compassion to his brother Gabriel who is mentally
disturbed. Gabriel got a head wound when he took part in the World War II, and his friendship with
Bono is firm.
Troy has a mistress, Alberta who unfortunately passes on while giving birth and the mistreated
Rose takes in the child. However, Rose refuses ever to obey Troy again. The commitment of
Gabriela to asylum leaves Troy and Cory entirely apart after Cory mentions that Gabriel s

Lab Report Photosynthesis
I.Introduction
Photosynthesis is the process by which plants use light to synthesize food from H2O and CO2
within the thylakoid and the stroma of the cells. In order for photosynthesis to occur, light must be
present. Light reactions occur within the thylakoids of the chloroplasts by absorbing light and H2O
and producing oxygen gas, ATP, or Adenosine triphosphate, and NADPH, or nicotinamide adenine
dinucleotide phosphate. The oxygen gas is released back into the atmosphere while ATP and
NADPH are inputs of the Calvin Cycle within the stroma. The Calvin Cycle uses these two
molecules, in addition to carbon dioxide gas, to produce ADP, or Adenosine diphosphate, NADP+,
and glucose molecules. Photosynthesis is represented by the following equation: ... Show more

The leaf with the highest rate of photosynthesis was the darkest leaf, the purple cabbage. The leaf
with the lowest rate of photosynthesis was the lightest leaf, the iceberg lettuce. We can conclude
that the rate of photosynthesis was much higher in the purple cabbage because darker leaves
contain more chloroplasts. Therefore, photosynthesis occurs much more quickly. Notably, these
results support the stated hypothesis. An error that might have affected the data as a whole was the
fact that the calculated rate of photosynthesis for the iceberg lettuce was negative. In addition to
this, a few of the other percentages decreased as time passed. This means that the chloroplasts
would have been going through cellular respiration. This inconsistency might have transpired from
a mechanical error within the spectrophotometer. The control tubes, the boiled and dark tubes, of
all 3 leaves were necessary in order to determine if the chloroplasts were the organelles of the cell
that were causing one leaf to photosynthesize quicker than another because it was imperative for the
chloroplasts to be exposed to light and temperatures that would not denature them. Therefore, we
are able to conclude that the chloroplasts located within the leaves were the organelles that were
causing the varying rates of photosynthesis in this

Continuity Theory Vs Disengagement Theory
This week s discussion included reading about theories of aging and watching the documentary
titled Backing Out of Time. In the following discussion I will compare and contrast two theories
of aging as it relates to the role of caregiver, one thing I learned that I did not know previously, and
what one piece of information will most likely affect my nursing practice. The two theories I have
chosen to compare and contrast are the Disengagement Theory and the Continuity Theory. The
Disengagement Theory is based on the premise that older people will inevitably decline with age,
become less active with the outer world and become engrossed with their inner lives. The
Continuity Theory is based on the hypothesis that personality characteristics become more apparent
with age or remain the same throughout life, people age successfully and maintain roles and adapt...

Both of these theories can influence a care givers role. If a person ages and becomes disengaged
the care giver may have a harder time caring for that person. Or if the care giver believes the
disengagement theory is how people are supposed to age. I feel like some people think that old
people are just supposed become less active and fade into the background. If a care giver treats
an older adult as such they may be destine to follow the path of the disengagement theory. The
continuity theory on the other hand, is what people hope will happen as they age. People want
to remain active and engaged even at an older age. When I was a home health aide, I ran into
many different types of people. As a care giver, the older adult that is active, personable and
outgoing is easier to care for. I am an outgoing and active person and I would always try to get my

Analysis Of Raiders Of The Lost Ark
The film Raiders of the Lost Ark was directed by Steven Spielberg in 1981. It is the first film in a
series of films that follow the adventures of archaeologist and professor Indiana Jones. Some
proclaim the Raiders of the Lost Ark is one of the best action/adventure movies of all time. Since
its release, the film has grossed $389 million worldwide and is ranked #40 on the top rated movies
list on IMDB.
Mise en Scene:
Raiders of the lost Ark takes place in 1936. When comes down to the settings, lighting, music,
costumes and the way everyone acts in this film, everything works together to get an overall feel
that the time really is the 1936. The costumes look like outfits people would really wear in that time
and the music sounds right for that era.
Right in the opening scene viewers see Indiana Jones walking through the jungle with some men.
Although his face is not shown for the first couple of minutes you can tell that the man in the
fedora is an important character. It s never specifically mentioned that it is a jungle but there are
animal noises and plants in the background. Also, the lighting looks natural almost as if the sun is
shining through a thick canopy of trees. All the men look a little tired and their faces and clothes
look dirty. From the way the music sounds and the way they all look you can tell that they are on
some kind of quest, searching for something for what seems like a while.
One of the best scenes in the film was when Indiana Jones, Sallah,

What Is Intrinsic And Extrinsic Motivation
The only way to do great work is to love what you do (as cited in Bloxham, 2011). This is the
famous quote from Steve Jobs who is a CEO of apple company. It indicates that most people will
choose their occupation based on their interested, which is not depended on how much money they
will earn. There are two types of motivations, which are intrinsic and extrinsic motivation. Intrinsic
motivation can be defined as internal factors that serve their satisfaction and enjoyment. Extrinsic
motivation is the opposite of intrinsic drives, which is that people act in a certain way because of
external incentives. The most common form of external motivation is financial rewards. In today s
society, many people commonly use money as an extrinsic motivation in order to contribute better

which is when the babies make loud noises, attempt to grab, or bite any things ( Intrinsic

Ticketmaster v. Tickets.com (2003 U.S. Dist. LEXIS 6484) Background Ticketmaster ( TM ) and
Tickets.com ( TC ) were full service ticketing companies serving local markets across the United
States. In the late 1990s, TM sued TC for deep linking, whereby TC allegedly listed TM events on
its website and linked visitors to TM s website just before the point of purchase. TC countersued
under Sections 1 and 2 of the Sherman Act claiming TM s exclusive contracts unreasonably

Typically, all companies proposed long term exclusive contracts across all four distribution
methods. The length was generally 3 10 years with the average being 5 6 years. Thus, on
average around 20% of venue contracts came up for bid each year3. According to TC, it
competed with TM for every large venue contract that came up for bid since 19984. The relevant
price a venue pays a ticketing company is the split of the C H fees. For example, suppose the
average per ticket C H fee for Staples Center is $15. During the RFP process, Staples Center
negotiates with each ticket company over the share of the C H fee Staples would keep and the
share that would go to the ticket company. The amount of C H fees that goes to the ticket
company is the relevant price paid by Staples Center for ticketing services. Thus, of a $15 C H
fee, if Staples Center gets $7 and Ticketmaster gets $8, the relevant price paid by Staples for
ticketing services is $8. If Staples chooses the Paciolan self supply option, it pays a licensing fee
and then keeps the entire $15 C H fee for itself. Sometimes up front payments are made to a venue
such as lump sum payments (e.g., $1 million upon contract signing), cash advances, or low interest
loans that are paid back to the ticket company by future C H fees. In addition to contracts with
individual venues, both TM and TC competed for long term exclusive contracts with

This paper challenges the obsession with outcomes as part of the current preoccupation with
accountability. The paper recognizes and concurs with the importance of setting and trying to meet
clearly defined targets. But it argues that many crucial and equally important developments
inadvertently can be overlooked in the quest to quantify.
The word of the week is outcomes. The subtext is accountability. No one can deny that these two
imperatives are driving most agendas these days. Performance measurement for the private, public
and voluntary sectors is a booming business. Private firms, governments and voluntary
organizations are under pressure to demonstrate that they are functioning in a cost effective and
efficient manner.
The concern for accountability is being fuelled by many factors. The private sector always has
been interested in outcomes. The bottom line actual output at the end of the day is the primary
driving force. The private sector must account to its customers and shareholders. In fact, there is
growing discussion about the need to relate to an even broader audience of interested parties,
typically referred to as stakeholders.
The requirement to perform effectively and efficiently is nothing new. But the pressures appear to

Voting Age To 16 Research Paper
The voting age has been a controversial topic for years now. In Indiana, voters have to be 18
before the next General, Municipal, or Special Education to register to vote. Other states allow
you to be younger than 18 when you register as long as the voter is 18 when they are actually

16 year olds are not educated enough to make a decision on who should run our country. For
example, at Central High School, a student cannot take a Government class until their senior year,
unless the student is graduating early. Therefore, the student would not get a concept of politics
unless they had been previously educated by an outside source. The average 16 year old is either
a sophomore or junior. If the voting age was moved to 16, not only would the teenager be
uneducated for their first election, but they would not be educated until their senior year. Along
with the lack of a political education at school, the student has to endure outside opinions that
could potentially swat the student s political opinion. These outside sources, such as parental
views, TV ads, friends opinions, etc., make it hard for the inexperienced teenagers to have a
mind of their own (Debono, Meaney). The average teenager grows up in a household with a
family; a family that has views of their. These views have been instilled in their lives from birth.
Once this has happened, the teenager s first response to anything is what they ve always know and

##er Affect And Queer Temporality In Charlotte Bronte s...
Both the scholarly community and the public alike recognize Jane Erye as a feminist classic, a
bold social commentary penned by a daring woman intent on shedding light on the hypocrisy
that riddled Victorian English society. Indeed, the rise of the character Jane Eyre from a
suppressed and maltreated orphan to a woman capable of grasping at independence and whose
husband needs her as much as, possibly even more, than she needs him, appears on the surface
to be a tale meant to empower any female. However, there is a limit to how much light Charlotte
BrontГ« deigns to shed, and its feeble rays fall short of a dank, gloomy, and locked room on the
third floor of Thornfield Hall. In The Maniac Bellowed : Queer Affect and Queer Temporality in
Charlotte BrontГ« s Jane Eyre, Carolyn Marjorie Davis asserts that the arms of BrontГ« s feminism
do not embrace women who fail to fulfill certain standards of domesticity and femininity, namely,
they do not embrace Bertha Mason, the mad and muscular, foreign and forgotten wife of Edward
Rochester. Davis analyzes how the elements of queerness, in the form of gender nonconformity, in
Bertha s character, as well as her ethnic background, make her intolerably other in relation to the
gender conforming, Angelo Saxon characters, and claims that the incarceration and eventual death
of Bertha represent Charlotte BrontГ« s own imperialistic and hegemonic prejudices. A careful

Uncontrolled Periodontitis Case Studies
In conclusion, the clinical assessment, as a whole, determined that the patient has controlled
generalized, severe, diffused gingivitis, and uncontrolled severe periodontitis. Treatment notes
indicate that the periodontitis was diagnosed as controlled, but the recent jump from a periodontal
case type II to a periodontal case type IV is indicative of uncontrolled periodontitis. Determination
was made by the inflammation present, bleeding index, color of the free and attached gingiva,
radiographs, probe depths, recession, and CAL mentioned above. Treatment plan modifications

Over the years, the documentation of the patient s oral health has remained fairly consistent. Chaz s
home care indicates he possess a good attitude towards oral hygiene and is highly motivated. He
claims to brush two times a day, floss once a day, and uses Listerine mouth wash two times daily,
yet his plaque index was fairly high, reaching 57%. At his final appointment the increase in plaque
accumulation could be related to the patient s recent injuries. Experiencing constant pain could
detour, distract, or change the motivation he once had to perform the necessary hygiene procedures
to keep his periodontal condition from increasing. After examining his technique with string floss
and our test drive electric tooth brushes, I noticed that when brushing he focuses the most on the
mid and incisal edges of the teeth rather than the gum line. Remembering our recent lecture from
Dr. Parker and how he emphasized that, with geriatrics, the technique is not as important as simply
getting the job done; I recommended to the patient to focus on keeping half of the brush head on

What Role Does Functionalism Play In American Politics
The most significant concept and issue to date is politics in regards to religion. Remarkably,
however, religious talk in American politics actually escalated in the late 20th century, even as the
public s engagement with traditional religion was waning. As new religiously motivated voting
blocs emerged, politicians adjusted their rhetoric and actions accordingly. Religious political talk
became assertive and remains prominent to the present day (Domke). Therefore politics, have
existed for centuries to protect the interest of the ruling class, and how society governs itself the
rules and regulations it lays down, and the various methods it uses to advance, encourage, and
impose those rules. It is the act of an individual or group trying to gain power which often creates

For example, politics provide a way to govern society. Therefore functionalism, believes that the
government has four main purposes: planning and directing society, meeting social needs,
maintaining law and order, and managing international relations. According to functionalism, all
aspects of society serve a purpose. Functionalists view government and politics as a way to
enforce norms and regulate conflict. Functionalists see active social change, such as the sit in on
Wall Street, as undesirable because it forces change and, as a result, undesirable things that might
have to be compensated for. Functionalists seek consensus and order in society. Dysfunction
creates social problems that lead to social change. For instance, functionalists would see monetary
political contributions as a way of keeping people connected to the democratic process. This would
be in opposition to a conflict theorist who would see this financial contribution as a way for the rich

Art and Video Game
Historically video games have been considered a novelty or technical subject, but in recent year
given the increase in technology video games have been able to show that they are more. While
not a traditional art form, video games do have an artistic basis. Video games are increasingly
becoming more story and visually based. With these increased artistic elements it is increasingly
becoming harder to deny that video games are art, but maybe they are not the art defined by a
traditional definition. Critics state that that video games do not have the artistic values that art has
but perhaps there needs to be a new definition of what art is to include video games. Art can be

Saints Row, a game some would argue immature do to its use of juvenile humor and phallic
weapon choices, is in fact a great example of video games maturing as an art form. As seen
throughout the history of movies, there is a pattern of genre creation and criticism of the genre
through spoofs and satirical works. Saints Row is an example of this development in video
games, criticizing the gangster crime genre made notorious by Grand Theft Auto. This
development in the genre is an example of a genre referring back to itself and poking holes in
some of its conventions, a key element of a maturing medium. Traditionally art has been
produced by a single artist, a major criticism of the notion that video games, a collaborative
effort of a team, could be considered an art form. This criticism is limited to mainstream video
games, though, since many independently developed video games are the works of a small
team, as few as two, and they display the most artistic characteristics. Not burdened by the heavy
costs of triple a game development indie developers are able to put their hearts into their games
and produce wonderfully artistic games and not worry about if it will sell to the widest audience.
These games are evidence of the artistically heights video games can achieve. Video games are a
collaborative art form created by a team instead of a singular artisan (Hall). That is not to say that

Hockey Is The Root Of The Racism
Hockey fans are the root of the racism in hockey. For many decades Canadians have known
hockey as being their national sport. There are black Canadians, Asian Canadians, and Aboriginal
Canadians. What are the differences between those Canadians citizens but the pigment of their
skin? There is racism in hockey it is just not as clear as other forms of racism. Canadais so
welcoming and is a very diverse counrty. Hockey fans are so cruel and reluctant for change in
their world. The focus of this paper is on the lack of diversity in hockey. What will be examined is
the differences between black and white people, society s perception on hockey, Canada s history
with the sport and diversity. The overall question is: is it the sport or is it the people? Some
people may argue that Canada is one of the most multicultural countries in the world especially
in sports, but how deeply do Canadians embrace this diversity? Racism in sports occurs because
of both individual and team sports. This is main cause of the reported incidents in the media. It
is not the sport itself that induces racism it is the organizers and players that bring racism into
sports. However, without the involvement of people/society there would be no sport at all.
Therefore, it is very important that we make people more aware that there needs to be a notion of
fair play (telegraph). Hockey fans are protectionists by nature. We have to defend our game against
any ill perception toward it. , said local hockey

The Causes Of The Tiananmen Square Protest Of 1989
On June 5, 1989, soldiers and tanks from China s People s Liberation Army physically oppressed
the student led protesters. The events surrounding this day are referred to as the Tiananmen Square
Protest of 1989, a democracy movement calling for political and social reforms in the Republic of
China. The deaths that occurred as a consequence of the Tiananmen Square Protest was not the fault
of the students, but rather, the disastrous situation of China beforehand, the common belief that
demonstrations would succeed, and the government s obstinate decisions. China was already
suffering from harsh living conditions prior to the massacre, in which these conditions pushed the
students to act. To begin with, the country had been under intense economic pressure. After
changing into a capitalist based economy, the economy increasing changed due to rising inflation,
declining wages, and rising unemployment rates. To complicate things, the government
deregulated prices of many products. The Chinese feared inflation would occur with the removal
of price controls, and used all their savings to purchase items ahead of time. As a result, the
biggest department store sold two hundred times its usual monthly income. Labour unrest grew,
and between 20 to 30 million were laid off in state enterprises that year. By 1989, people were
ready for political reforms. Even though China s economy was growing, there were strict
limitations on daily aspects of one s life. The rising inflation and

Submitted on: November 26, 2014 Discuss the structural factors which contributed to the onset of
the Arab Spring in 2011. Based on what you learned about the origins of revolutions in this class,
was this wave of contention inevitable?
The term Arab Spring has emerged in academic literature as well as in the general media from
about early 2011. It refers to the awakening of some Arab nations and the movements to replace
authoritarian regimes with democratic ones. The theme of spring and awakening seems to have
been borrowed from the 1989 reform movements in the former Eastern block nations, such as in
the former German Democratic Republic or Hungary. However, this comparison has been
criticised by some analysts since both the circumstances which have led to these movements as
well as the outcome of these reform efforts seem to differ quite a lot. Yet, the Arab Spring term
seems to be still widely used and even found an extension in the creation of the term Arab Winter
which refers to events that happened in 2012 in some Arab countries during which these reform
movements seemed to have cooled off and particular nations, such as Egypt, attempted to go back
to the status quo of the pre 2011 era.
The term Arab Spring has been

Speech-Language Pathology Program Analysis
My goal is to maintain a GPA of 3.25 or higher to keep my place in the speech language pathology
program. Marywood University was my first choice college and I couldn t be happier that I m
here. I committed to come to Marywood because of the speech program, the atmosphere, the stress
on service, and the importance of education. The reasons I can here parallel the Core Values of
Marywood. They also put me on the right track to accomplish my own goals. I wantto serve others,
get an education, and become a welcoming friend to all who need one. When I found out that
Marywood had a 5 year speech program I couldn t be happier. What could be better than getting a

in my application, went for interviews, and now I am a Maxis Gillet myself! Service has always
been a big part of my life and being a Maxis Gillet furthers my passion. It allows me to serve a
new group of people and experience new opportunities. All of the clubs I joined offer service
opportunities. I think it s amazing that every club and athletic team participates in something. I am
very involved with activities on campus and I love when I hear that other people are having a good
time.
Last but not least is education. I aspire to be a well rounded speech pathologist and Marywood
offers me multiple ways to accomplish this. By attending a liberal arts college, I will get educated in
many areas, not just in speech pathology. Although it may seem like a lot to handle, it really is
worth it. Marywood is preparing me for the rest of my life. Overall, Marywood s values parallel my
goals. I want to be a well rounded speech language pathologist, I want to serve others, and I want
to be a kind and welcoming person. Marywood is putting me on the exact track that I want to be

Reflection On Track And Field
On April 4, 2017 I started my first Track and Field season at Mosinee Middle School and learned
a very valuable lesson, but let s not get ahead of ourselves we have to start from the beginning.
Probably sometime in February I was in 7th grade Social Studies and I heard on the
announcements that there were Track and Field sign ups coming up. Mr. Rheinshmidt, our vice
principal, stated on the loudspeakers, There will be Track Sign ups in the creske gym lobby this
Thursday. I thought to myself... what would I be good at in Track?... shotput?... Discus? I was
brought back from deep thought as my Social Studies teacher started talking after the
announcements were done. As soon as I heard this, I knew that I would be in Track that spring.
That day at lunch I asked my friends whether or not any of them were interested in joining Track
and Field that season... but none of them were which made me lonely and wistful. I begged and
begged them to join but they kept saying no. Please join Track. I ll be so lonely if you don t, I
told them beggingly. No, we said we didn t want to, they stated sternly. I didn t let this stop me
though I pestered them until one of them finally said that they would join. Because of this I was
ecstatic that I would not feel lonely. Even though I ended up making even more friends in Track
than just hanging out with the friend I pestered to join. The next day, was Track and Field sign

Stigma In Dallas Buyers Club
Erving Goffman maintained that negative labels are often stigmatizing. He believed that
stigmas result in a spoiled identity. Goffman coined the term stigma to describe the labels
society uses to devalue members of certain social groups (pg. 107). He identified three categories
or types of stigmas: abominations of the body, blemishes of individual character, and tribal.
When a person became aware of a certain stigma they had been labeled to, Goffman noted three
ways to manage it: hide the stigma, distance themselves from the stigma or try to correct it, and
embrace or accept the stigma. The movie Dallas Buyers Club offers a chance to see several
stigmas brought to light, and the way that each was handled. For instance there are examples of HIV
/AIDS, homosexuality, feminism, and criminal activity that are prevalent and shape the way the
movie is organized. Dallas Buyers Club is based on a true story of Ron Woodruff, a Texan
redneck, who is outspokenly homophobic, works as an electrician, and lives in a small unit in a
trailer park. Ron first appears at the Rodeo, where riding and gambling seem to be his favorite
pastimes along with promiscuous sex, consuming copious amounts of alcohol and snorting
cocaine. One day at work, he suffers a substantial injury that mandates his blood be drawn. He is
diagnosed with HIV (and later contracts AIDS), sending his life into a downward spiral of
isolation and dilemma. The doctors inform Ron that not only is he HIV positive, he

For the foregoing dispute are both economic and philosophical differences. Supporters Kozol
since the 60s has been steadily thinning their number are of the opinion that the differences
between schools for the top and schools for the lower classes, by definition, undemocratic, and
that the U.S. should strive for absolute equality, even if it will have to cut funding schools in
more affluent areas, and support special programs for gifted children. Opponents Kozol also
believe that all this is fraught with egalitarianism that runs counter to the spirit of American life. Is
not it should seek to ensure that children fully realize their potential even if it means to throw in
the rear of their peers academically worse? Is it fair to take away money from successful schools
and throw into the bottomless abyss? Kozol well articulated this position: These people see the
word must all be equal, and read them as no one should be better than others (Kozol, 2005c). The
U.S. spends more on education than most countries in the world, but are polarized with an
educational system where high end schools attract students worldwide and public schools without
sufficient care for the poor and recent migrants. The education expert Jonathan Kozol states that the

Palmata Case Study
A study by Ritchie, 2006 illustrated how a temperature increase initiates a temporal shift within
A.palmata mucus isolates, from beneficial bacteria to dominance by members of the genus Vibrio,
suggesting that protective mechanisms employed by this species are lost under warmer
conditions. Increased temperatures lowering coral resistance, thus, increasing disease
susceptibility is well documented (Bruno, 2007; Muller et al, 2008), as is the rise in ocean heat
content (Figure 3). Figure 3: Time series showing seasonal and annual average of global upper

Both species affected emphasise asexual fragmentation at the expense of dispersive sexual
reproduction therefore, recovery is further strained due to the reproductive strategies (Aronson
Precht, 2001). In addition to this, two pesticides commonly incorporated into African dust have
been found to interfere with the settlement of coral larvae (Virginia et al, 2003). Management
Strategies Responsive management plans are limited due to a lack of effectual diagnosis
methods. Protective statuses such as being listed on the IUCN can act as a buffer following
outbreaks, and it has been shown the decreased damage from human impacts via the designation
of Marine Protected Areas (MPA s) lowers disease prevalence in corals (Lamb et al, 2015; Groner
et al, 2015), yet despite this, implementing effective preventative and conservation methods remains
a cause for concern. Trial studies have shown antibiotic treatments to be successful in supressing
transmission of WBD, specifically with the use of Ampicillin and Tetracycline, although the latter
being less efficient (Kline, 2011) and Paromomycin has been shown to arrest the disease
completely (Sweet et al, 2014). Genetic research has shown that gene flow is regionally restricted
in both Acropora species; Hemond and Vollmer, 2010, identified mitochondrial DNA sequence data

Bastard, a child born out of wedlock, an illegitimate descendant that deserves to be slapped. Don
John, coined as Shakespeare s most passive villain is plagued by the society of Messina that
rejected him from the very moment of birth. Looking through the idea of predetermined roles in
life, we can come to realize the roots of Don John s agitation arises from his illegitimacy,
stacking him at the bottom of the social hierarchy. Here he feels obliged to act the part of the
villain, delegated by his very own blood. What exactly determines the words written on this label

happiness of the residents of Messina. Yet being a shakespearean comedy, focused on displaying
the comic and follies of misunderstandings, it can fairly said he lacks the depth and development of
some of Shakespeare s darker villains from tragedies, rendering him an underdeveloped and

In terms of number of words, French is the second largest language after English. In the humanities and the social sciences many of the most important writings have come from France. Students and researchers who know French have access to these works for several years before they are translated into English. Many significant works are never translated and remain accessible only to those who know the language. Historically France and the French language have had an enormous influence over American society. France was the United States first ally. French thought played a dominant role among the founders of the United States in the 18th century, and it continues to shape America today through the influence of such intellectual currents as post structuralism and post modernism. • 4. Salutary Neglect In America Salutary Neglect Between 1690 and 1760, the colonist went to little problems from the British. Salutary Neglect was an idea which could be beneficial to the colonies. The concept of this idea was that America could experience self government and people could make their own rules. The Salutary Neglect make the colonies violate the Navigation Act and allowed the colonies to feel being independent. The colonies had their own legislatures which made their own laws. Proclamation of 1763 was ordered on October 9,1763 by King George III, which was after Britain obtained French territory in America. The job was to create a newly gained territory in America and get a better relationship between the natives and the Europeans. They achieve this goal by regulating trade, settlement and buying land on the western frontier. The colonist thought that if they had fought a war to defend the land makes it theirs. The British wanted the colonist to maintain control of the land. The colonist used to move west of the proclamation line as a form of rebellions that foreshadowed the American Revolution. Iroquois Confederacy was a band of five tribes from upper New York in the 17th and 18th century. The representatives were the Cayuga, Onondaga, Oneida, Mohawk and Seneca which they call themselves the people of the lighthouse . The group was identified by non aggression pact between the five tribes, recognition of shared concern which brought them closer. The complex of the group as a form ... • 5. A Study On Seismic Wave CHAPTER 2 REVIEW OF LITRETURE 2.1 Introduction Most of today s producing naturally fractured reservoirs were discovered accidentally, they were found by somebody who are looking for some other type of reservoir. Significant volume of hydrocarbon resides in these reservoirs. But these are abandoned particularly in fields because improper testing and evolution or because the wells did not intersect the natural fractures (Aguilera, 1998). Attempts have been made to quantify properties of such reservoir (Chaki et al., 2014). It has been long recognized that the presence of naturally occurring fracture network can lead to unpredictable heterogeneity and anisotropy within many reservoirs. In past geophysicists acquired and processed P wave reflection data at short offset, which automatically implied relatively small angular ray coverage. So seismic anisotropy, which is defined as directional dependence of elastic properties of earth remains unnoticed. But with the advance of methodologies, acquiring long offset and multi component data become feasible and cost effective, anisotropy showed up. Seismic wave propagation in heterogeneous medium is discussed by Chabak et al., 2012. On a smaller scale, stresses in the Earth can cause rock to fracture in a consistent manner. If these fractures are aligned, the rock will be anisotropic with the fast direction parallel to the fractures and the slow direction perpendicular to them. In ideal cases, these observations can provide ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Swot Analysis Of Skullcandy Shakera Butler BUA450 Skullcandy Skullcandy was founded in 2003 by Rick Alden in Park City, Utah. The idea came to him in 2001 when he was riding on a ski lift while listening to music. His phone rang and he had to change his headphones over to the phone. That s when he told himself he wished there was headphones that you could use both on a Mp3 player and a cell phone. In 2002, he created his first prototype called Link, that were a hit. His company grew fast that he started to make headphones to go inside helmets, MP3 equipped backpacks, and watches. Today you will also find Bluetooth speakers and gaming headsets. Strengths Alden was one the first people to create a microphone and a button on the headphones that allowed individuals to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The main weakness of Skullcandy is that they struggle to maintain grown. At one point of time, there were so many orders coming in that production could barely keep up. It was also hard for them to come out with new designs while trying to fix minor glitches in other products, and keep up with production. Up until a couple of years ago, Skullcandy only had two suppliers; core channels and big box retailers. They cared about loyalty and reputation to their core channels of specialty shops. With these stores, there isn t a lot of them so most of their sales came from retailers, and if that fails the company can too. Opportunities Skullcandy can expand their company to across the world. Beats by Dr. Dre is being sold international through Apple. If Skullcandy explores the new markets and the developing ones, it could exceed the company. There is a constant demand for headphones every day, they seem to be essential to people s life. Just like any other headphone company there always wants for new designs and products. Apple s iPhone is always changing every year, and everybody gets all excited for it. They have changed from headphone with a cord to wireless headphone pods that you just stick in your ear. With new products and production comes materials. Materials to produce headphones such as copper have risen in price. Skullcandy and other companies have the power to negotiate it lower. More cheaper materials, the more products they can produce and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. Black Bears And The Black Bear A typical West Michigan backyard has tendencies to be a visiting place from some of nature s finest species. A raccoon, opossum, or even white tailed deer is very likely. A new likely species? A black bear. The imagination of seeing one of the most potentially dangerous species is actually becoming a reality in many locations all over the area. Many have reported aggressive tendencies from the black bear population. Reports of attacks are emerging throughout the state. Some experts say there is no trend of black bears migration to more southern areas of the state, yet others have projected that Indiana and Illinois will have some sort of black bear population. For the moment, it seems as if we won t have to prepare ourselves for black bears, but the future may hold new residents to the southern counties of Michigan. Black bears are being spotted almost everyday in territories that are somewhat surprising. The concern for other species are now taking place, and questions are being asked about the risk of other local species. Is there a trend of black bears migrating south? Each year there are seems to be more evidence that black bears are on the move to the southern part of the state. Michigan Radio reports that this a trend for the past 5 to 10 years for young male black bears to roam south (As spring begins, para. 5). Even though there are growing numbers of sightings, many can conclude they won t be established in West Michigan for quite some time. If a time comes to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 8. Taking a Look at the Ipad Mini Tablet Computer IPAD MINI Tablet PC is another mobile PC for mobile users. The tablet form factor is typically smaller than a notebook computer but larger than a smart phone. It is highly compact and easy to carry. Tablet PC mainly uses the screen for both input and output. Additional features may include speakers, microphones and cameras. It is a wireless personal computerin the form of a notebook and that allows a user to hand write notes with a stylus or digital pen on a touch screen. Most tablets are slightly smaller and weigh less than the average laptop. While some tablets include fold out keyboards, others, such as the Apple I Pad, only offer touch screen input. Many tablets now support multi touch input, which allows you to perform gestures with multiple fingers, such as pinching an image to zoom out, or spreading your fingers apart to zoom in. Tablets without physical keyboards allow you to enter text using a pop up keyboard that appears on the screen. Since tablets do not use a traditional keyboard and mouse as their primary forms of input, the user interface of a tablet is different than a typical laptop. For example, instead of double clicking to open a program, most applications open with a single tap. Instead of clicking on a scroll bar to scroll through a window, most tablet applications allow you to swipe up and down anywhere within a window to scroll through the content. Since tablet PCs provide a different interface than traditional computers, they ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 9. The Problem Of Homeless Families Homeless Families Before I began the research I had already known that single parent homelessness is a n extremely emotional and heart breaking problem. In seventh grade my family and I went on vacation to New York City and I remember seeing a good of homeless people on street corners, but what surprised me the most was seeing younger people who appeared homeless. It s a obvious answer, I m against homelessness and family homelessness even more. It truly is heartbreaking to see little children who are forced to grow up because their parents cannot provide for the family. It s like animal shelter commercials, only the heartless can t feel for them. That s what makes it interesting, how they do it and live their lives without a home. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... These families live together in any shelter they can find. They try to get a spot in shelters but there is not enough shelter space to fit every homeless family so they have to resort to living on the streets. The reason I say that it is socially underrated is because the money dedicated is falling, how can a problem be fixed if the needed resources begin to disappear? In the words of the National Coalition for the Homeless, the federal support for low income housing has fallen forty nine percent from 1980 to 2003 (National Low Income Housing Coalition, 2005). Even if family homelessness is a subtopic of the extremely broad topic of homeless does not mean that it isn t important, however it still sits in the shadow of general homelessness. In the first source, Homeless Families with Children , published by the National Coalition for the homeless in July of 2009, I found many statistics related the dimensions, causes, consequences, and policy issues about family homelessness. This article mainly consisted of logical appeals with very little emotion added into the article. One of the most eye opening logical appeals used in the article is the ratio of homeless children to kids with homes. The National Center on Family Homelessness estimates, that one in 50 children in the United States are homeless. (1) This really shows that family homeless really is a rising problem in the United States. So wouldn t more job openings fix the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 10. Personal Narrative about Skiing Essay The coat of armor I adorned, made of down feathers and a nylon shell, yielded no protection against the daggers of that cold winter air. As I peered out toward the horizon, I saw nothing but tree tops, and some snow capped mountain tops in the distance. With my feet bound to freshly waxed skis, the only thing stronger than my skipoles was my determination to get down the mountain. I turned to my right, only to see the immediate drop off of the ski slope. As I crept up a little closer to the edge, I noticed an incline that before now was only known to me through pictures of cliff diving, or an exaggerated road runner and coyote cartoon. With a deep breath of that icy cold air that seemed endless at the time, I pushed myself off the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Now, a little bit of pressure onto my right leg, and I m back on my original course. I see a tree that was once in the far off distance, now rapidly approaching with speed of an oncoming train. With a look of confusion that I can only describe as the look of a deer in the headlights, I twisted my body to the right in hopes to avoid the oncoming danger, that devil dressed in the needles of a blue spruce. As my upper body shifted to the right, everything from my waist and below stayed true to the course, including the ski poles. I ran over the handle of my ski pole, with my stomach. The pole was pushed up into my lower abdomen, propelling me off of the slope entirely, I was airborne. I landed on my back, completely out breath, and dazed to the point I had no recollection of where I was. The next moment was particularly scary for me, all I can recall was the ringing of a whistle in my ear, and the red lights flashing from the ski patrols snowmobiles. Unsure of any injuries, the ski patrol had braced my back and neck, strapped me to a board, and began to tow me down the mountain. I spent the next three hours in the lodge under the watchful eye of a very pleasant paramedic, who prescribed me the perfect blend of warm blankets and hot chocolate. The throbbing pains finally ceased, and I was able to stand up under my own power. I slowly staggered out the door, eternally grateful to the paramedics and ski patrol that came to my ... • 11. ##titudes Of Civilization In William Golding s Lord Of The... We all consider ourselves civilized. We think this because we are sophisticated and cultured, and have laws and order. In Lord of the Flies, William Golding explores a scenario where schoolboys enter a lawless and orderless paradise. Through his depiction of characters, Jack, Roger, and the naval officer, he reveals his attitudes towards civilizationand civilized behavior. Golding shows that civilization and society are only masks, a constraint for human s true selves because no one is truly civilized, but instead innately uncivilized and savage. From the beginning of the novel, Golding uses Jack Merridew s development and actions to present his attitudes of civilizations and its constraints. Jack begins as a normal choir boy, with respect to rules and against uncivilized behavior: We ve got to have rules, and obey them. After all, we re not savages. We re English and the English are best at everything. (42) He believes in civilized actions and following rules, which is continually contrasted by his behavior in later chapters. • 12. Descriptive Essay On The Day Of A Dog The turbulent winds smashed into my face as I struggled to pull my dog to the cover of the large oak tree. All of a sudden, a large gust of wind lifted my dog into the air, snapping her old and tattered leash! I screamed in horror as she was flung into the choppy river. Stunned, I could only watch in panic as my dog s head bobbed up and down in the water, while she frenetically tried to keep herself afloat... Unaware of the dreadful events that were about to unfold later in the day, I rolled over in my cozy bed, but was abruptly shaken out of my tranquil sleep by the sound of my dogs shrill, loud bark and the slivers of light which pierced through my eyelids. Drowsily, I opened my eyes to see my little dog anxiously circling around my rumpled bed. I looked out of the ever so slightly tinted window at the rising sun and wondered to myself why I wake up early to walk my dog. I got out of bed and quickly put on my clothes as I know that the deafening bark will prolong due to her urgency to ease herself. I walked over to the window hoping for a sudden change in the weather so I could go back to sleep, as my dog hates to go out on rainy days, but to my dismay it was still a sunny ... • 13. The Importance Of Medieval Music We ask ourselves, does medieval music need to be protected against certain types of scholarly approaches? In the 14th century to 15th century it was important for the people to follow certain approaches and interpretations with music. Many men and women withdrew from the materialistic world, and devoted themselves to church; they devoted themselves to lives of prayer or theology. In, Elizabeth Eva Leach s article, Gendering the Semitone, Sexing the Leading Tone: Fourteenth Century MusicTheory and the Directed Progression, Reading and Theorizing Medieval Music Theory: Interpretation and Its Contexts, and in Sarah Fuller s article, Concerning Gendered Discourse in Medieval Music Theory: Was the Semitone Gendered Feminine? these summaries consist a contrast why the authors argument why medieval music was an integral part of everyday life for people living in the 14th century through 15th century . These authors both have a different viewpoint of how masculinity and feminine were influenced under the power of the church and composers who exemplified these ideals, and brought the compositions out of church and spread it across Western Europe. They both agreed that music and semitones were influenced by gender, but disagreed how feminine and masculine affected people in a certain approach. Music of the medieval era included liturgical music used for church and chants, and consisted a lot of voice exchanges from instruments and choral music. Composers had a strict way ... • 14. Compare and Contrast Any Two Theories of Leadership Essay Compare and contrast any two theories of leadership In the following essay I will look at leadership, its definition and compare and contrast two theories behind it. I will firstly see if there is a distinction between leadership and management as suggested by John Kotter(1990) who goes on further to stress that organisations require both a leader and a manager but the function can be provided by a single individual. I will then look at some definitions of leadership such as that by Bryman(1999), The process of influencing the activities of an organized group in its efforts toward goal setting and goal attainment . The two leadership theories which I will compare and contrast are transactional and transformational. I will also ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Transactional leadership relies on the workers behaviour being influenced by means of reward by the leader. There is co dependency between the leader and the worker, one has to offer the other something for a desired outcome. A real life example of transactional leadership is the use of commission in the sales industry. Performance to the leader s requirement or expectation is rewarded. This could be seen as one of the advantages of this type of leadership, that is it provides a clear idea of what is required. Watch any episode of the BBC television programme The Apprentice and this theory is clearly demonstrated throughout. The main disadvantage becomes clear, the assumption is everyone is motivated by monetary rewards and this is simply untrue. In contrast transformational leadership is the infusion of motivation and inspiration into the workers to do the work by their leader as suggested by Anita(2008) You have to look at leadership through the eyes of the followers and you have to live the message. What I have learned is that people become motivated when you guide them to the source of their own power and when you make heroes out of employees who personify what you want to see in the organisation. The election campaign that was run by the now US President, Barak Obama, was transformational. Obama influenced the voters with his charisma and motivated them by addressing issues that appealed to them. This highlights ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

This hits on his mind and he decides to get help for the lady. His thoughts about his dad changes. At the end of the movie Victor disperses the remains of his father in the river and forgives him for what he did before. When Victor knew about his father s death I was thinking he would not go to Phoenix to get his remains since he had hatred towards him but he decides to go which was surprising. It was always funny how Thomas kept telling stories about different stuffs to Victor even though he knew Victor don t like to hear them. The author has tried to show the culture of Indians, the thoughts of people, how they dealt their life through his stories which I really found interesting and something different to learn. In Ihara Saikaku s story, Life of a Sensuous Woman, and Mary Wollstonecraft s work, Vindication of the Rights of Woman , the issue of double standards in gender are examined. Both pieces offer a perspective into the lives of women during their respective times and show how some standards that are considered favorable for men, are looked down upon for women. In particular, the two works examine how women were treated differently based on their education, their social status and even their sexual history. Saikaku looks at these issues in a different lens from Wollstonecraft, based on his experiences as a man living in Japan in the 17th century. Their experiences shape their works and show how the issue of double standards of genderspan culture, time and geography. In Wollstonecraft s work, she addresses the differences between men and women as being something that should be considered negligible, but instead is used to practically enslave one half of the population. The work details how women are akin to playthings when they lack an education, and that for her to truly be herself and practice her own free will, she must be knowledgeable. However, there are many different kinds of education, Wollstonecraft points out. In Charles Dickens , Great Expectations, every character from Pip to Molly has a secret that adds to the storyline. Great Expectations sets in the early nineteenth century, therefore social class is everything. Passed down from generation to generation, family businesses have kept the family from moving up in society. Similar to Dickens rough childhood, Pip didn t want this family or their struggle to define him. However, even the rich have their problems. For example, Miss Havisham lets her past affects how she lives on a day to day basis. One unfortunate event has led her to live her life in sorrow and depression and it affects everyone around her, especially her adopted daughter, Estella. Even, the convict, Abel Magwitch, lets his past encounters command his future actions. One of the better known ideologies is Marxism, which explains how a nation should form itself to develop a communist society. Karl Marxillustrates his ideas of Marxism in The Communist Manifesto. A point of controversy within the Communist Manifesto addresses how nationalism does not help form the communist state but rather rhetorically seeks to deny the sense of nationality. The writings of Benedict Anderson are about how the nation state manifests itself through the spread of nationalism in his book, Imagined Communities. In Anderson s book, nationalism helps create a community and a sense of unique identity for the population within that community. Marxism shares a common ground with Anderson s imagined political community, despite denying the existence of nationalism within the emergence of communist communities. The Calvin Cycle uses these two molecules, in addition to carbon dioxide gas, to produce ADP, or Adenosine diphosphate, NADP+, and glucose molecules. Photosynthesis is represented by the following equation: ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The leaf with the highest rate of photosynthesis was the darkest leaf, the purple cabbage. The leaf with the lowest rate of photosynthesis was the lightest leaf, the iceberg lettuce. We can conclude that the rate of photosynthesis was much higher in the purple cabbage because darker leaves contain more chloroplasts. Therefore, photosynthesis occurs much more quickly. Notably, these results support the stated hypothesis. An error that might have affected the data as a whole was the fact that the calculated rate of photosynthesis for the iceberg lettuce was negative. In addition to this, a few of the other percentages decreased as time passed. This means that the chloroplasts would have been going through cellular respiration. This inconsistency might have transpired from a mechanical error within the spectrophotometer. The control tubes, the boiled and dark tubes, of all 3 leaves were necessary in order to determine if the chloroplasts were the organelles of the cell that were causing one leaf to photosynthesize quicker than another because it was imperative for the chloroplasts to be exposed to light and temperatures that would not denature them. Therefore, we are able to conclude that the chloroplasts located within the leaves were the organelles that were causing the varying rates of photosynthesis in this ... • 33. Continuity Theory Vs Disengagement Theory This week s discussion included reading about theories of aging and watching the documentary titled Backing Out of Time. In the following discussion I will compare and contrast two theories of aging as it relates to the role of caregiver, one thing I learned that I did not know previously, and what one piece of information will most likely affect my nursing practice. The two theories I have chosen to compare and contrast are the Disengagement Theory and the Continuity Theory. The Disengagement Theory is based on the premise that older people will inevitably decline with age, become less active with the outer world and become engrossed with their inner lives. The Continuity Theory is based on the hypothesis that personality characteristics become more apparent with age or remain the same throughout life, people age successfully and maintain roles and adapt... Or if the care giver believes the disengagement theory is how people are supposed to age. I feel like some people think that old people are just supposed become less active and fade into the background. If a care giver treats an older adult as such they may be destine to follow the path of the disengagement theory. The continuity theory on the other hand, is what people hope will happen as they age. People want to remain active and engaged even at an older age. When I was a home health aide, I ran into many different types of people. As a care giver, the older adult that is active, personable and outgoing is easier to care for. It is the first film in a series of films that follow the adventures of archaeologist and professor Indiana Jones. Some proclaim the Raiders of the Lost Ark is one of the best action/adventure movies of all time. Since its release, the film has grossed $389 million worldwide and is ranked #40 on the top rated movies list on IMDB. Mise en Scene: Raiders of the lost Ark takes place in 1936. When comes down to the settings, lighting, music, costumes and the way everyone acts in this film, everything works together to get an overall feel that the time really is the 1936. The costumes look like outfits people would really wear in that time and the music sounds right for that era. Right in the opening scene viewers see Indiana Jones walking through the jungle with some men. Although his face is not shown for the first couple of minutes you can tell that the man in the fedora is an important character. It s never specifically mentioned that it is a jungle but there are animal noises and plants in the background. Also, the lighting looks natural almost as if the sun is shining through a thick canopy of trees. All the men look a little tired and their faces and clothes look dirty. From the way the music sounds and the way they all look you can tell that they are on some kind of quest, searching for something for what seems like a while. This is the famous quote from Steve Jobs who is a CEO of apple company. There are two types of motivations, which are intrinsic and extrinsic motivation. Intrinsic motivation can be defined as internal factors that serve their satisfaction and enjoyment. Extrinsic motivation is the opposite of intrinsic drives, which is that people act in a certain way because of external incentives. The most common form of external motivation is financial rewards. LEXIS 6484) Background Ticketmaster ( TM ) and Tickets.com ( TC ) were full service ticketing companies serving local markets across the United States. In the late 1990s, TM sued TC for deep linking, whereby TC allegedly listed TM events on its website and linked visitors to TM s website just before the point of purchase. TC countersued under Sections 1 and 2 of the Sherman Act claiming TM s exclusive contracts unreasonably restrained trade and maintained their monopoly in the ticketing industry. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Typically, all companies proposed long term exclusive contracts across all four distribution methods. The length was generally 3 10 years with the average being 5 6 years. Thus, on average around 20% of venue contracts came up for bid each year3. According to TC, it competed with TM for every large venue contract that came up for bid since 19984. The relevant price a venue pays a ticketing company is the split of the C H fees. For example, suppose the average per ticket C H fee for Staples Center is $15. During the RFP process, Staples Center negotiates with each ticket company over the share of the C H fee Staples would keep and the share that would go to the ticket company. The amount of C H fees that goes to the ticket company is the relevant price paid by Staples Center for ticketing services. Thus, of a $15 C H fee, if Staples Center gets $7 and Ticketmaster gets $8, the relevant price paid by Staples for ticketing services is $8. If Staples chooses the Paciolan self supply option, it pays a licensing fee and then keeps the entire $15 C H fee for itself. Sometimes up front payments are made to a venue such as lump sum payments (e.g., $1 million upon contract signing), cash advances, or low interest loans that are paid back to the ticket company by future C H fees. Both the scholarly community and the public alike recognize Jane Erye as a feminist classic, a bold social commentary penned by a daring woman intent on shedding light on the hypocrisy that riddled Victorian English society. Indeed, the rise of the character Jane Eyre from a suppressed and maltreated orphan to a woman capable of grasping at independence and whose husband needs her as much as, possibly even more, than she needs him, appears on the surface to be a tale meant to empower any female. However, there is a limit to how much light Charlotte BrontГ« deigns to shed, and its feeble rays fall short of a dank, gloomy, and locked room on the third floor of Thornfield Hall. In The Maniac Bellowed : Queer Affect and Queer Temporality in Charlotte BrontГ« s Jane Eyre, Carolyn Marjorie Davis asserts that the arms of BrontГ« s feminism do not embrace women who fail to fulfill certain standards of domesticity and femininity, namely, they do not embrace Bertha Mason, the mad and muscular, foreign and forgotten wife of Edward Rochester. Davis analyzes how the elements of queerness, in the form of gender nonconformity, in Bertha s character, as well as her ethnic background, make her intolerably other in relation to the gender conforming, Angelo Saxon characters, and claims that the incarceration and eventual death of Bertha represent Charlotte BrontГ« s own imperialistic and hegemonic prejudices. Saints Row is an example of this development in video games, criticizing the gangster crime genre made notorious by Grand Theft Auto. Based on what you learned about the origins of revolutions in this class, was this wave of contention inevitable? The term Arab Spring has emerged in academic literature as well as in the general media from about early 2011. It refers to the awakening of some Arab nations and the movements to replace authoritarian regimes with democratic ones. The theme of spring and awakening seems to have been borrowed from the 1989 reform movements in the former Eastern block nations, such as in the former German Democratic Republic or Hungary. However, this comparison has been criticised by some analysts since both the circumstances which have led to these movements as well as the outcome of these reform efforts seem to differ quite a lot. Yet, the Arab Spring term seems to be still widely used and even found an extension in the creation of the term Arab Winter which refers to events that happened in 2012 in some Arab countries during which these reform movements seemed to have cooled off and particular nations, such as Egypt, attempted to go back to the status quo of the pre 2011 era. • 50. Stigma In Dallas Buyers Club Erving Goffman maintained that negative labels are often stigmatizing. He believed that stigmas result in a spoiled identity. Goffman coined the term stigma to describe the labels society uses to devalue members of certain social groups (pg. 107). He identified three categories or types of stigmas: abominations of the body, blemishes of individual character, and tribal. When a person became aware of a certain stigma they had been labeled to, Goffman noted three ways to manage it: hide the stigma, distance themselves from the stigma or try to correct it, and embrace or accept the stigma. The movie Dallas Buyers Club offers a chance to see several stigmas brought to light, and the way that each was handled. For instance there are examples of HIV /AIDS, homosexuality, feminism, and criminal activity that are prevalent and shape the way the movie is organized. Dawkins and Kozol Essay darwin Running Head: DAWKINS AND KOZOL The Meme concept from Dawkins and the Educational Funding concept from Kozol Kevin Edmundson Oklahoma University LSTD 5013 Interdisciplinary Foundations The Meme concept from Dawkins and the Educational Funding concept from Kozol Introduction Jonathan Kozol, one of the most zealous advocates of the idea, wrote a series of books, which depict below the critical school, where children from poor, mostly belonging to national minorities families, teaching staff consists of an inexperienced youth, and indifferent to their cause losers who care only about maintaining discipline, stimulating the imagination of children are neglected. Kozol points out that... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... For the foregoing dispute are both economic and philosophical differences. Supporters Kozol since the 60s has been steadily thinning their number are of the opinion that the differences between schools for the top and schools for the lower classes, by definition, undemocratic, and that the U.S. should strive for absolute equality, even if it will have to cut funding schools in more affluent areas, and support special programs for gifted children. Opponents Kozol also believe that all this is fraught with egalitarianism that runs counter to the spirit of American life. Is not it should seek to ensure that children fully realize their potential even if it means to throw in the rear of their peers academically worse? Is it fair to take away money from successful schools and throw into the bottomless abyss? Kozol well articulated this position: These people see the word must all be equal, and read them as no one should be better than others (Kozol, 2005c). The U.S. spends more on education than most countries in the world, but are polarized with an educational system where high end schools attract students worldwide and public schools without sufficient care for the poor and recent migrants. The education expert Jonathan Kozol states that the U.S. education system is full of savage inequalities. In other words, it only matters how much is spent, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 53. Palmata Case Study A study by Ritchie, 2006 illustrated how a temperature increase initiates a temporal shift within A.palmata mucus isolates, from beneficial bacteria to dominance by members of the genus Vibrio, suggesting that protective mechanisms employed by this species are lost under warmer conditions. Increased temperatures lowering coral resistance, thus, increasing disease susceptibility is well documented (Bruno, 2007; Muller et al, 2008), as is the rise in ocean heat content (Figure 3). Figure 3: Time series showing seasonal and annual average of global upper ocean heat content for the 0 700m layer since 1955 (National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration) A suggested source of the WBD pathogen is African dust of which hundreds of millions of... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Both species affected emphasise asexual fragmentation at the expense of dispersive sexual reproduction therefore, recovery is further strained due to the reproductive strategies (Aronson Precht, 2001). In addition to this, two pesticides commonly incorporated into African dust have been found to interfere with the settlement of coral larvae (Virginia et al, 2003). Management Strategies Responsive management plans are limited due to a lack of effectual diagnosis methods. Protective statuses such as being listed on the IUCN can act as a buffer following outbreaks, and it has been shown the decreased damage from human impacts via the designation of Marine Protected Areas (MPA s) lowers disease prevalence in corals (Lamb et al, 2015; Groner et al, 2015), yet despite this, implementing effective preventative and conservation methods remains a cause for concern. Trial studies have shown antibiotic treatments to be successful in supressing transmission of WBD, specifically with the use of Ampicillin and Tetracycline, although the latter being less efficient (Kline, 2011) and Paromomycin has been shown to arrest the disease completely (Sweet et al, 2014). Genetic research has shown that gene flow is regionally restricted in both Acropora species; Hemond and Vollmer, 2010, identified mitochondrial DNA sequence data unique within A. cervicornis of the Florida Keys suggesting colonies within this area are highly genetically ... • 54. Why Is Don John A Villain Bastard, a child born out of wedlock, an illegitimate descendant that deserves to be slapped. Don John, coined as Shakespeare s most passive villain is plagued by the society of Messina that rejected him from the very moment of birth. Looking through the idea of predetermined roles in life, we can come to realize the roots of Don John s agitation arises from his illegitimacy, stacking him at the bottom of the social hierarchy. Here he feels obliged to act the part of the villain, delegated by his very own blood. What exactly determines the words written on this label of hero vs villain? How much comes from inner predisposition, from personal destiny, from mere interpretation? Is someone obliged to become a hero or villain by virtue of their existence, or are heroes and villains molded over time with... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... He was given a house to live in, yet never had a true home. He was taken under the family name yet would never be treated as a part of it. Even Don Pedro sook a more fitting companion to spend time with. Freely gifted to his brother, Don would never receive the same money, status or respect. Now I m sure you can come to see where the bitterness and spurn arose from, things he had no control over defined his life, fitting him with more than enough motivation to spoil the happiness of the residents of Messina. Yet being a shakespearean comedy, focused on displaying the comic and follies of misunderstandings, it can fairly said he lacks the depth and development of some of Shakespeare s darker villains from tragedies, rendering him an underdeveloped and arguably uninteresting antagonist. Melancholy and sullen by nature, he ironically believes that his brooding makes him appear strong, but it actually shows him to be a coward. Don John is too caught up in self pity to do anything that could better his life, so he simply lives to destroy the lives of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
