The Role Of Context In King Henry Iv Part 1
Essay Format (Not Speech Yet) Introduction (100) Respective to the context, Shakespeare has
successfully composed his play, King Henry IV Part One, and thus had the ability to manipulate his
text into representing one particular view through various representations of people and politics.
Shakespeare s play utilises the power of words as a tool for manipulating characters to direct and
influence the responders view. Dramatic and language devices utilised by Shakespeare have clearly
been portrayed to achieve his purpose and representation of contextual influences. Overall, King
Henry IV Part One espouses the alteration of historical events to dramatise political situations and
their impact on individuals and society. Context How context can affect representation (300) The
context, whether it may be personal, social, cultural and/or historical, greatly affected the
representation of Shakespeare s King Henry ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This has been effectively represented through Hotspur, as he undertakes roles as political deceivers to
manipulate and sway events in his favour. Within the beginning act of the play, Hotspur embraces
excuses and utilises political deceptiveness to shift the blame of withholding prisoners from Henry IV
onto another party. Hotspur reinforces that the individual who are in control of the prisoners was,
Fresh as a bridegroom ... He was perfumed like a milliner (Act 1, Scene 3, Lines 33 35). Shakespeare
s use of similes highlight a defensive tone for Hotspur, portraying that he is easily provoked and
arrogant by his way to divert himself out of trouble by manipulating certain events. Also, through
Shakespeare utilises nominative determinism to display Henry Percy as Hotspur as within the play, he
is seen to be very hot headed and quick to jump to a response to protect

The Greek Of Greek Tragedy
Luke Allis, Greek Theatre
Ancient Greek tragedy is still relevant today because the themes and issues expressed within it are still
present in the 21st century such as undeserved suffering, death and relationships. The greeks produced
many great works of art and theatre as well as revolutionising politics, ethics, aesthetics and
philosophy with philosophers such as Plato and Aristotle and their theories such as their theories on
form and Catharsis.
Many people suggest that modern day theatre and performance is derived directly from Ancient Greek
Theatre and Myths. Just life we do with politics, ethics, aesthetics and philosophy look to the greeks
as the founders and while it is possible that this is true this itself is also a myth. The ancient greek
empire ended almost 150 years BC, about 2066 years ago. In that time a lot of information regarding it
and it s theatre has been lost or distorted (such as the destruction of The Library Of Alexandria) and
thus we can t be certain that the information is 100% correct which means that this itself is a myth, we
have evidence that points towards theatre originating from Ancient Greece but we can t be certain
because there is also evidence pointing toward it originating from various other cultures from around
the world such as the Egyptian Coronation Festival Play 3100 BC (History of theatre timeline,
Glencoe.com) or primitive tribal dances and religious rituals dating even earlier than that.

Biological Weapons Vs Nuclear Weapons
Terrorists would be more likely to utilize a biological weapon over a nuclear weapon against the
United States for multiple reasons. The creation process, required funding, and resources needed to
obtain possession of a biological weapon, compared to a nuclear weapon, are easier. As stated by
Kostadinov and Galabova, with their features bio agents are ideal as a terrorists weapons undoubtedly
proved by performed bioterrorism assessment (Kostadinov, 2010, p. 303). The use of a biological
weapon is the, for lack of a better term, best choice for terrorists to use against their enemies. The
biggest goal they are going for is to inflict the largest amount of fear throughout the population as
possible. It is a very scary thing to know that the

Panhandling Research Paper
A filthy, grotesque mound of bones and skin concealed with disheveled, ratty clothes. A matted tangle
of knots sits atop its head, pleading eyes stare into the soul begging for help through an extended
hand. A beggar, a hobo, a scavenger. A woman. Unbeknown to passers, she has a child and no one to
help support her. From unequal opportunity and a loved burden thrown onto her, hoping others hearts
will sway them to spare change. Change that will have to feed two mouths, provide for two. Yet the
city council feels the need to impose regulations which will hinder many who have hopes of getting

A study done on youth was conducted by the Palette Fund, True Colors Fund, and the Williams

away because of rejection of their sexual orientation or gender identity, they were forced out by
parents, physical, emotional, or sexual abuse at home, and financial or emotional neglect from their
family (page 4, Serving Our Youth). In short, they couldn t stay home. They couldn t stay home, yet
the city is faulting them for trying to live a better life. The city is hindering their opportunities at

Sixth Mass Extinction Paper
The sixth mass extinction is on the way and could be as massive as the extinction that wiped out the
dinosaurs (Kolbert, 2014). Before learning more about the sixth mass extinction, you ll have to first
understand what biodiversity is and what will happen when you tamper with it. According to Anup
Shah, author of Why is Biodiversity Important? Who Cares, biodiversity means the variety of life on
Earth or in an ecosystem. Every species plays an important role in the ecosystem or in the world, no
matter how big or small. A way to incorporate this into easier terms is the food chain or food web.
Without a certain species in the cycle, you ll be losing another species and so forth (Shah, 2014). Loss
of biodiversity was declared at the first Earth ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Altering the biodiversity could cause the loss of an environment such as the Malayan field rat incident
in the Chiew Larn islands. Laurance, William wrote the article, Islands of Extinction, which speaks of
the Chiew Larn and how the reservoir was flooded. Larger animals perished due to the fact of how
small Chiew Larn islands were during the flood. Chiew Larn island measures from 1 hectare, 2.5
acres, to 60 hectares, 148 acres. Some large animals such as tigers, deer, and elephants might have
disappeared into the forest surrounds the reservoir. Because of this flood, it was easier for the Malayan
field rat to come and invade the Chiew Larn islands. One of William colleague, Tony Lynam, traveled
and did an experiment on the Chiew Larn islands after the flood. Tony s experiment was to use baited
live traps to capture small mammals left on the island and ear tags them. The result that Lynam had
discovered was astounding because the native mammal species had vanished within 10 hectares of the
area (Laurance, 2014). The tragic change of the environment had lost the once healthy and plentiful
biodiversity in the area. This is the start of an invader known as the Malayan field rat. A Malayan field
rat, an adaptable species, can be compared to the well and common known black rat. The Malayan
field rat lives near human settlements and agriculture. Luke Gibson, a Ph.D. student at the

What Is The Impact Of The Great Recession On Payout Policy
This paper uses panel data analysis to assess the impact of the great recession on payout policy in the
USA. It uses three multivariate linear and nonlinear regression technics to study the relationship
between the payout variable, pre identified payout determinants and the GR. The following regression
model is considered as used by Denis and Osbov (2008): 〖PV〗_(i,t)=β_(i,0)+β_(i,n) 〖X 〗
_(i,t)+ε_(i,t) (1) 〖X 〗_(i,t) is a vector of explanatory variables and includes all the relevant factors
identified in section 3.2. Table 2 in the appendix provides a summary of these variables, their
measures, empirical evidence and expected sign. 〖PV〗_it is the payout variable analysed as only
dividends, only repurchases, both or total payout. The paper ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Nonlinear Models The second analysis technique uses a probit and logit models with the payout
variable taking a value of 1 if the sample firm uses the respective payout category in year t, and 0
otherwise. This is used by Fama and French (2001) and DeAngelo et al. (2006) and allows to measure
the marginal propensity for the different payout categories while capturing the behaviour of firms that
omit or initiate payout payments. We estimate a fixed effect logit model where the log likelihood of
the probit model and the random effect logit model do not converge. Using fixed effect logit limits our
work because the analysis considers only the explanatory variables within the subsample of firms that
changed their payout policies during the sample period (Renneboog and Trojanowski, 2005). This
excludes 22.1% of the original sample from the estimation procedure. We also use a multinomial logit
estimation procedure to explain the likelihood that a firm decides on a specific payout category during
the GR because we were unable to apply a multinomial probit estimation as used by Renneboog and
Trajanowski (2011). As such, the independence of irrelevant alternatives (IIA) assumption may be
violated by our outcome categories. We test for this violation using Hausman McFadden test of IIA
assumption. The dependent variable in these models takes four possible

Barbara Mcclintock Biography
Barbara McClintock was born on June 16, 1902, in Hartford, Connecticut (Tracy). When she was
born, the terms gene or genetics did not exist (Keller 1). Yet, by the time she was finished with her
work, advanced terms in genetics, such as transposable elements had come about. McClintock was
born to Thomas and Sara McClintock. Thomas came from a poor background but became a doctor. He
also had an interest in science, which may have been where Barbara s interest originated (The Editors
of Encyclopædia Britannica). In contrast, Sara McClintock came from a much wealthier, more
prestigious background; her ancestors could be traced to Pilgrims on the Mayflower (Tracy). After her
marriage, Sara, who became a mother of four, was a piano teacher to bring in more money for the
family. At the age of three, Barbara was sent to live with her aunt and uncle for three years (Tracy).
She enjoyed her time with the extended family and returned to Thomas and Sara after three years ...

A professor at the university had given her a special invitation to take a graduate level genetic course

she received a master s degree (The Editors of Encyclopædia Britannica). McClintock did not achieve
this degree the way she wanted to, however. McClintock s main interest was in genetics, but that
department (plant breeding) did not accept women (Keller 35). Instead, McClintock chose another
path, majoring in cytology, minoring in genetics and zoology, in the botany department (Keller 35).
McClintock went above and beyond what she had to do in order to graduate. She audited many
courses and took many additional courses, just for the sake of learning more (Keller

Leaving The Eu Case Study
Introduction
On Thursday 23rd June, 2016, the UK held a vote on whether to leave or remain within the European
Union. The decision made as a result of the vote was to leave and subsequently the SMEs located
within the UK were left to consider what challenges and opportunities could emerge from this
monumental event that was dubbed by the media Brexit . They realised that by voting to leave the
European Union, the UK will face serious consequences which could present challenges in facilitating
localised and globalised entrepreneurship opportunities (Chalmers and Menon, 2016).
When Theresa May triggered Article 50 in March, 2017; she ruled out any hope of the government the

Whilst not being outside the EU does not mean that the UK will be excluded from the single market, it
would be within the UK s best interest to negotiate a favorable trade agreement. Exclusion will not be
a barrier to trade but rather an inconvenience, that if approached strategically could enable the UK to
broker a unilateral free trade policy that allow for speedier negotiations with other countries outside
the EU. Possible tariffs on exports to the EU could be a challenge however the upside is that there is
an opportunity to trade with other countries.
According to an government commissioned review conducted by industry chief Jürgen Maier, Brexit
could put the UK at the forefront of technologies such as robotics, artificial intelligence, 3D printing,
augmented and virtual reality (Monaghan, 2017). The 246 page review contains a detailed plan of of
measures that will boost UK growth and productivity through the manufacturing sector which will
increase exports and earning potential, ushering in the 4th industrial revolution worth over £455bn
over the next decade (Monaghan, 2017).
Human Resources Brexit could alter the dynamics of the relationship with the rest of the world as the
EU is one of the world s largest markets comprising of £11 billion worth of trade stemming from its
advanced technologies and highly skilled educated workforce (Baldwin and Lopez Gonzalez, 2015).

The Pros And Cons Of Multitasking
Having single pointed focus and no multitasking In today s modern hustle and bustle, people are very
much preoccupied by their work, are always in hurry, engrossed in busy schedules and easily get
agitated so much so that people have ingrained and imbibed a word to describe their efforts to respond
to the many pressing demands on our time: Multitasking. Used for decades to describe the parallel
processing abilities of computers, multitasking is now shorthand for the human attempt to do
simultaneously as many things as possible and as quickly as possible. But more recently, ill effects of
multitasking have begun to emerge. Numerous studies have shown the sometimes fatal danger of
using cell phones and other electronic devices while driving, for example, and several states have now
made that particular form of multitasking illegal ! Dr. Edward Hallowell, a Massachusetts based
psychiatrist who specializes in the treatment of attention deficit hyperactivity disorder and has written
a book with the self explanatory title CrazyBusy, has been offering therapies to combat extreme
multitasking for years; in his book he calls multitasking a mythical activity in which people believe
they can perform two or more tasks simultaneously. In one recent study, Russell Poldrack, a
psychology professor at the University of California, Los Angeles, found that multitasking adversely
affects how you learn. Even if you learn while multitasking, that learning is less flexible and more

The Samurai s Role In Feudal Japan
Many people today think of the Samurai as a stereotype of a Ninja warrior (even Teenage Mutant
Turtle Ninja warriors are on television) sneaking around at night with precise sword skills. However,
the samurai were a noble, well respected class of warriors who lived in feudal Japan from the 10th to
the 18th century. They first began during the Heian period when the Japanese government was
establishing an army of professional soldiers from 794 to 1185 and later came to power under the first
Shogunate.
In fact, the samurai were famous for their fighting style and weaponry, disciplined training, their high
position of power in Japanese society, and their philosophy of Bushido. Although the samurai were not

The ideal samurai lived by the unwritten code of conduct later known as Bushido. Bushido means the
way of the warrior and was developed in the 800s and the 1100s. The Bushido code has seven virtues.
Gi (Rectitude) is to do what is right given the situation at hand based upon reason and judgment. The
Samurai believed violence is to be avoided if at all possible, but if it can t be avoided, do what must be
done in the full faith that your actions are blessed. Anything less is failure. When killing is the only
option [in battle], they would engage in it as though they were striking their opponent down with the
right hand of god himself. Yuuki means brave, courageous energy. Bushido distinguishes between
bravery and courage. Courage The samurai were brave and believed that fear causes your brain to
down down your ability to do parasympathetic tasks like complex sword fighting techniques. To be
brave is to do something despite the fact that you are frightened. To show courage is to do something
that scares you precisely because you know you must because it is the right thing to

The Myths Of Rising College Cost
Tuition charges have increased by a national average of 20% between 2008 and 2012 (Hiltonsmith
Draut, 2014). Higher education stakeholders, such as students, parents, public policy makers, have
expressed their worries about the rising tuition as it has triggered a public concern about college
affordability (Mumper Freeman, 2011). For public colleges and universities, it was the first time that
they have witnessed that tuition as a share of total revenue surpasses the state funding for public
institutions nationwide in 2012 (U.S. Government Accountability Office, 2013). It imposes challenges
to public higher education institutions to shift their dependence of revenue from state appropriations to
tuition and other sources (Mulhern, Spies, Staiger Wu, 2015).
A number of researches have investigate the myths of rising college cost (Archibald Feldman, 2012;
Baumol, 1995; Bowen, 1980; Douglas Keeling, 2008; Heller, 2011; Martin, 2011; Mumper Freeman,
2011). In summary, the major factors that attribute to the rising college cost are: (1) the decline in state
financial support for public higher education with the increasing support for other items (Mumper
Freeman, 2011); (2) higher education institutions set their goals to be academic excellence, prestige,
and influence. To achieve these goals, they tend to generate revenue source and there is no limit for
the money they can generate. So they raise all the money they can and spend all the money they
raised. Raising

Pompey s Use Of Evil In Measure For Measure
In this short passage of Measure for Measure, the theme is evil is persuasive. Shakespeare uses
repetition to convey this idea. Evil is being represented by Pompey who Elbow calls, O thou caitiff, O
thou varlet, O thou wicked/ Hannibal! (2.1.156 157). The words caitiff, varlet, and wicked are
repeated many times throughout the passage to give emphasis to Pompey s evil, cheating character.
Pompey is brought to court to explain why he used Elbow s wife as a prostitute by pimping her out to
Master Froth. He uses persuasion to try to get away of imprisonment for his crime. First he says, Once
sir? There was nothing done to her once (2.1.128) He starts the conversation by trying to say that what
he did was a good thing, or else it would not have happened more than once. Then, instead of just
telling Escalus what happens, he says, I beseech your honour, ask me? (2.1.130) He is dying ... Show

Only an honest Christian would take an oath upon a bible, so he uses this idea to trick everyone in
believing in what he is saying. He then refers to Froth as Master, a word usually used in reference to
God. Early in the passage Pompey says, How could Master Froth do the constable s wife any/ harm?
(2.1.42 43). One can again relate Froth to God, as not only is he being called Master, but he is being
seen as someone who can do no harm, only good. Pompey seems to portray Elbow s wife s
prostitution as a sacrifice to God (Froth). However, he is completely aware that he has committed a
crime. This awareness can be understood in his repetitive use of the word beseech, which mean to
implore. When someone is imploring, he or she is asking for mercy and only someone who has does
not deserve mercy will ask for it. Therefore, Pompey knows he needs to ask for mercy because it will
not simply be handed to

My Computer s Death After The World Wide Web
Once upon a time, my computer burned out and shut down before my very eyes, leaving me without
so much as a goodbye or any sense of closure. Instead, I sat on my computer chair mystified and
heartbroken. After all these years, why couldn t it have told me it wasn t feeling the same? At first I
denied the possibility of my computer being gone. It s tired. It needs to rest, I would say to my
parents, whom tried to assure me it was as gone and never rebooting. It was only then that I started to
accept my computer s death as my fault. I hadn t been listening to its alerts for a Norton Security
update and I was using it at all hours of the day without giving it a moment s rest, resulting in its
heinous fate. I never payed attention to my computer, because I was too busy using it for the internet,
my mind completely absorbed on the many dalliances of the World Wide Web. To say my computer s
ability to let me access media was impactful on my life is an understatement....considering how much
I mourned its passing. Truthfully, media content allowed me comfort. Unlike other teenagers at the
time, I was never attached to social media hubs like Myspace or Facebook. In fact, I hardly ever used
these platforms beyond playing games. Although that could be explained away as a result of my own
social anxieties at the time; the fact of the matter was that I wasn t interested. In the beginning, namely
freshmen and sophomore year, I tried my best to be like the other kids.

School counselors the work environment they typically work with students on social skills and study

The Importance Of Youth Work Activities
During our time studying in the Solomon Islands and Vanuatu critical decisions regarding youth work
practice were made. One of these decisions was staying to wait for our boat to the island of Savo.
Many of the group woke up early to be at the port in time to catch our boat to be told that we would be
waiting at least another hour. During the wait the group found a comfortable spot and relaxed. After
the hour ended the group went back to the port in time to catch the boat however, we ended up waiting
another 45 minutes there as the boat needed fuel. Although waiting in humid 30 degree heat is
difficult, patience and resilience were shown by all group members and it provided an important
learning opportunity for me which I will take into my youth work practice. This wait was not our first
nor last in the Pacific Islands and by the end of the trip I understood what island time was.
By waiting for the boat without complaint the group embraced the relaxed Pacific Islander culture.
This had positive effects throughout the day as once we had left the port, the day ran smoothly. Any
issue with the wait may have caused tension between the group and Paul or David who were our tour
guides for the day. This was not the first time the group had been kept waiting on the trip, although we
had only been there for a few days. The first was on our initial night in Honiara at the church, in which
the service started 45 minutes to an hour late. During this wait I asked the young person I was

The Rise and Fall of Richard the Third Essay

ignore such subjects due to the bonds and hidden reasons that many of the authors of the middle ages
had towards Richard. In keeping an objective approach towards Richard III, the study of his rise and
fall will be taken in the perspective of his royal acts and administration of England. Public sentiment
over such things as the scandal surrounding the princes did have an effect over the rule of Richard, but
there are many other underlying aspects that could have extended Richards rule, and changed the way
history looks back on him.

They had news that the Woodvilles were conspiring against Gloucester in order to take control of
England immediately. While parliament anxiously awaited Gloucester s explanation for his actions,
Richard did not meet with much adversity from the people upon his arrival to London. They felt he
was doing his duty, as no one suspected him of aspiring to anything but regent. Richard was then
formally installed as Protectorate of England, but Richard realized that his power would not last
forever, possibly four to five years.
In prior years, Richard had gained much public support and accolades for his part in fighting Scotland.
He uses this support in his next step of a move for the throne. In the past there had been rumors of
Edward the IV being illegitimate, now there was evidence that Edward s son was illegitimate as well,
as Edward IV had not been legally wed to Elizabeth when they had Edward V. Upon hearing this
news, Richard chose to proceed with caution, only telling chief political players and asking their

with Scotland. When Edward IV wanted a crushing blow to the Scots, Richard realized that it would
be too costly and at the same time England had already accomplished a great feat. Richard pushed

How Stirling Engine Is A Type Of Heat Engine Essay
Abstract: Stirling engine is a type of heat engine that operates by cyclic compression and expansion of
working fluid of different temperature to convert heat energy into mechanical work. The concept of
Stirling engine was introduced to overcome the problem of explosion and wastage of heat energy in
steam engine. The key working principle of Stirling is a fixed amount of gas is sealed inside the closed
space .
Stirling engine can work on any solid or liquid fuel with very low exhaust emission. It operates
without noise, have low cycle torque variation and a flat part load characteristics. With this type of
advantageous attributes, Stirling engine come into sight for use in automotive application.
Nevertheless, Stirling engine has very less realistic practical application in automotive. The reason
behind that is easily availability of liquid fuel and internal combustion engine. Stirling engines are

Tudor Succession Problems Essays
Tudor Succession Problems
The Tudor period is unique in that it is marked by succession difficulties in every generation. The
Tudor dynasty was plagued by poor health, short lives and a shortage of male claimants to the throne.
For three successive monarchs the throne passed not from ruler to child, but from sibling to sibling
and three consecutive monarchs died childless. Henry VIII s search for a suitable male heir to his
throne had far reaching ramifications. This period is distinctive in that it would start the precedent of
determining the succession by statute in consultation with Parliament. The parliamentary enactments
and wills that he had created complicated the succession issue for future generations in the attempt to

Even if his Beaufort line could be considered for the throne, Henry s mother would be in line to
succeed before him. It was in fact remarkable that Henry VII ever succeeded to the throne and
England accepted him as king for Henry VII was a former attainted exile who did not have a strong
hereditary claim to the throne. But it was his victory at Bosworth field that brought him the throne, not
his descent; his weak hereditary claim gave his accession some semblance of legitimacy. Bosworth
helped him consolidate his dynasty for it not only eliminated some of the other principle claimants to
the English throne, it was regarded by contemporaries as an expression of divine will, as Henry would
tell parliament the true judgement of God in granting him victory over his enemy in the field. In order
to further consolidate his claim Henry married Elizabeth of York. He did so partially at the request of
Parliament, partly because he could not afford the political price of going back on his pre Bosworth
promise and most importantly to prevent anyone with ambitions for the throne from marrying
Elizabeth, who had the stronger claim. However the succession was by no means secure in Henry VII
s reign. When Henry VII s heir Prince Arthur died prematurely on April 2, 1502 Prince Henry was
only ten, and if he were not to survive there remained only his sisters Margaret and Mary. Henry VII

Harshness Of Life In John Steinbeck s Of Mice And Men
On February 27, 1902, in Salinas County, California, an American Novelist named John Steinbeck
was born. He had an early appreciation for the land, in particular, California s Salinas Valley, which
would be a big impact on his writing later on. Steinbeck s life is very similar to the book he would
write, Of Mice and Men, which takes place in his hometown Salinas, and also has the same theme of
Steinbeck s life. Steinbeck experienced harshness in his life, drifting out of schools for six years until
he dropped out for good. There are many themes found in the novel Of Mice and Men by John
Steinbeck, but the most significant theme is the harshness of life, which frequently appears and
develops throughout the novel.
The harshness of life theme is shown right at the start of the book with two examples. The first
example appears on page five when Lennie tries to cover up killing a mouse to George. George sees
that Lennie is holding something and when he asks what it is, Lennie says Jus a dead mouse, George. I
didn t kill it. Honest! I found it. I found it dead (5). This proves the harshness of life because Lennie
could not control what he wanted. And in life, in order to succeed and live a good life, you are going
to have to be able to control what you want. Another example of the harshness of life occurs when
Lennie was talking about him petting the mice and how it s not under his control to stop it. He says I d
pet em, and pretty soon they bit my fingers and I pinched their heads a little and then they was dead
(10). This is a great example of the harshness of life because it shows killing. Lennie kills the fluffy
animal, but he did not want to. Steinbeck shows with these two examples that harshness of life doesn t
have to include only human beings, it also can be animals.
The reason why George and Lennie travel together is in fact because of the harshness of life. When
George is talking to Slim about Lennie and how they are together now, he says, I turns to Lennie and
says, Jump in. An he jumps. Couldn t swim a stroke. He damn near drowned before we could get him
(40). George was being a jerk to Lennie and ended up having to save his life. This is a big harshness
of life because George was a jerk to

The Typographic Mind By Neil Postman
In the beginning of chapter four, The Typographic Mind, Neil Postman delivers an impressive
narrative argument about the impact of print information culture on 17th and 19th century minds.
Postman makes a few claims with respect to the contrasts between the written and spoken word. In
this essay, there are four qualities of the typographic mind: attention span, listening ability, knowledge
of issues, and literary language. First, Postman discusses attention span in reference to America s first
debate between Stephen Douglas and Abraham Lincoln on August 21 1858. Attention span means the
length of time during which a person can concentrate on a subject or idea. Postman first illustrates
about people with disciplined minds who are able to attend and listen to a 4 5 hour lecture. People at
that time can listen and gather information, so they are able to comprehend and structure sentences.
One debate lasted three hours while another in 1858 went seven. Postman guarrateeds that Douglas
and Lincoln who wrote speeches in advance are pure print and they have the power of typography to
get the audience attention because their language was clear. The audiences who attended the debate
must have had an equally extraordinary capacity to comprehend lengthy and complex sentences
aurally (45). Much of it seemed either blindingly obvious, or like the moanings of a killjoy who can t
bear that television is entertaining and that people are unable to process it through the ear , therefore

Benefits Of Co-Production In Canada
There is a wide range of benefits that a production company can advantage from when it comes to
small scale production, and/or following a path of co production. It can stretch from communal nature
to having more artistic independency on a project to financial management. The Journals of Knud
Rasmussen, a film made by an Inuit production company presents these advantages. By using this
approach these production companies have more accessibility, and international success. This film acts
as a prime example to why films made in Canada can benefit from small scale production, and co

The smaller crews allow for the rotation of roles, a closer intimate crew, and democratic decision over

and this limits the creative freedom of the filmmaker. In Baltruschat s article she says, there has been
an increase in the opportunity of co production due to the demand for new indigenous films, and
television content. It is the new markets for this media that has opened up this opportunity, and the use

Trump s plan will improve the United States, but can do some damage to the U.S. Currently, the
United States is in twenty trillion dollars in debt. The main question is: Is Trump the right man for the

and what mess it is creating? Basically, a trade agreement between the USA, Mexico and Canada
formed by Bill Clinton, and it has let many Americans without jobs because most of them have gone
to Mexico. That is the main reason Donald J. Trump hates this agreement and how it has destroyed the
United States economy to bits and pieces. Additionally, what makes Trump fierce is that China has
been stealing American trade secrets for many years. He clearly stated, If China does not stop its
illegal activities, including its theft of American trade secrets, I will use every lawful presidential
power to remedy trade disputes, including the application of tariffs consistent with Section 201 and
301 of the Trade Act of 1974 and Section 232 of the Trade Expansion Act of 1962 (Fernandez 3).
Clearly, this shows that Trump is serious about his job and doesn t care if he is dealing with China.
China has been stealing all our trade secrets and Barack Obama didn t do anything about it. In brief,
this clearly shows that our future President has the characteristics and personality of a true leader that
is ready for this great battle.

newly elected president, Donald J. Trump, has shown through his economic plan that he will bring

Catherine Earnshaw Essay
As represented in Catherine Earnshaw s early characterization, the social and cultural ideals of the
time period are heavily reinforced through Catherine s defiant individualism and love for the initially
lowly Heathcliff, which contrasts with the civility and propriety of the people around her. Despite
being set solely in the Yorkshire Moors in England, the delicate social hierarchy of class is clearly
seen in the residents of both Wuthering Heights and Thrushcross Grange, in which Wuthering Heights
lacks the class, refinement, and civilization of the latter. Despite the era s social expectations of
women as submissive and demure individuals expected to marry into a wealthy family, Catherine
rejects these very standards through her fierce love for Heathcliff ... Show more content on

With this description, Catherine emphasizes the social values of the eighteenth century through her
willingness to defy authority and reason, pitting her against the strict societal expectations of the era.
However, the exposure of Catherine to Thrushcross Grange as she stays at the manor to recover from
the injury to her ankle, prompts a transformation in her romanticist character that openly explores the
cultural values of the Yorkshire Manors. The civility of the Lintons in Thrushcross Grange transforms
the once defiant and youthful Catherine into a mature and well groomed lady that develops an internal
conflict between her love for the well mannered and wealthy Edgar Linton and the lowly Heathcliff.
In Brontë s novel, Catherine emphasizes her characterization in a scene where she laments this
internal conflict saying, I ve no more business to marry Edgar Linton than I have to be in heaven; and
if the wicked man in there had not brought Heathcliff so low, I shouldn t have thought of it. It would
degrade me to marry Heathcliff now; so he shall never know how I love him (Brontë

The Expansion Of Modernity By Ferdinand T ÓŚ Nnies
Most theorists agree that the expansion of modernity has resulted in the decline in the natural will
based type of community, and has paved the way for less of a need for the Gemeinschaft type of
society and the rise the Gesellschaft association, in which the individuals engage in impersonal and
contractual arrangements, rather than a meaningful, emotionally invested relationship with others.
Modernity is intrinsically disorderly because it encourages individuals to experiment, to hope, to
gamble, and to be ambitious. Its social life lacks the predictability and the certainties that characterize
societies governed by tradition. Individual creativity is exchanged for the security of calculable social
obligations and the sense of belonging that emanate from fixed social bonds (Savage and Warde,
1993, p.150). Essentially, individuals give up a sense of belonging in order to experience what that
have not, and could not in a traditional community. They give up the security of being a part of a
group in order to gain individual creativity.
THEORIES
Ferdinand Tӧnnies is seen as the theorist with the most direct influence over later sociological work
and communities. He wanted to eliminate the spatial contexts and superiority of neither village nor
city life when analyzing communities, in attempt to identify the main features and quality of each way
of life. He coined the terms Gemeinschaft and Gesellschaft, which would later be used by one of the
founders of modern sociology, Max

In this essay I will be outlining consumerism and claims that a consumer society is always a throw

may make us feel like we fit in buying new gadgets and clothes and also give us that sense of
belonging but we don t take into account what happens to the old items and packaging. People do not

We often question how our food and clothes can be sold so cheap, this all comes down to where it is
made or grown. Our clothes are made overseas in factories by women and in some cases even children
in unsuitable conditions. They work long hours and don t get paid much in return, it is said to be less
than what they can afford to live on and made to work extra hours. This is why large stores like
Primark and Asda can sell their clothes at such little cost. Some of the workers are said to be working
60 to 90 hours every week for as little as £17 per month. (Making social lives pg.88) The workers in
the factories are grateful for their small wage and would struggle if the factories were to close and
business was took elsewhere.
The growth of consumption has caused a large increase in rubbish. This is due to people having more
choice when out shopping. Many years ago women stayed at home and men went to work but now
that both men and women are out earning there is a lot more disposable income which ends with
people buying luxuries and upgrading items they already have. This results in the old ones being
thrown away. People are constantly upgrading and renewing items to better models. Mobile phones
bring out new models every year which people feel the need to buy to keep up with the trend and
because they want the newest gadgets on the street. Pcs have changed to laptops which gives the pc no

France had undoubtedly suffered the most since most of Northern France had been a battlefield.
Germany had invaded her for the second time since 1870 when Alsace Lorraine had been taken over
by Germany. Georges thought that by stripping Germany of everything he would make sure that there
was not another war again. He had three main demands: Germany must return Alsace Lorraine to
France, pay reparations to France to cover the cost of rebuilding the parts of France that had been

Woodrow Wilson had bought over the Fourteen Points which was a list of things to happen in Europe,
which he hoped, would prevent a future war. Two of these include parts of countries to be made into
new countries and for a League of Nations to be set up.
Orlando was not happy about the way he was treated at Versailles. After the Secret Treaty of London,
Italy had been promised the Adriatic Coast. He expected France and Britain to keep their promise

An Essay on Clinical Negligence
An Essay on Clinical Negligence We have always thought of causation as a logical, almost
mathematical business. To intrude policy into causation is like saying that two plus two does not equal
to four because, for policy reasons, it should not. (Charles Foster NLJ 5/11/2004 page 1644).
To what extent do you consider that Charles Foster is correct in that causation and clinical negligence
should be a mathematical business and the courts have, by introducing matters of policy, confused
what should be a logical approach?

Arguments Against Just War Theory
The just war theory has been considered one of the greatest oxymorons. How could an act that
involves so much bloodshed and destruction be considered just? And how could peace be achieved
through such violence? It is said that All who take the sword shall perish with the sword (Aquinas
484). Does that then mean that all wars should be condemned along with all who partake in it?
According to St. Thomas Aquinas, not all acts of war can be justified; however, there are certain
instances when a state should take up arms against another that threatens the peace and the safety of
any group people. Yet, the battles and wars waged must not be of malicious intent, such as to
humiliate, revenge, or simply destroy the other side. Therefore, it is the right of a nation to protect its
people against an enemy and to take military actions if a direct threat is made against them, and if
those military actions are executed solely for the purpose of the restoration of peace and the protection
of those in danger, then any blood shed shall not be on the hands of those defending, but instead they
shall hold the tools needed for peace.
Throughout time, it seems as though nations and leaders have constantly had to call to arms their
militaries and brace their countries against nations abroad, and in ... Show more content on

Literary Analysis Of Saki s The Interlopers
Saki, in The Interlopers, says that our animalistic human nature traps us in blindness, but when we re

Humans as a whole, have an animalistic nature to them. Saki starts the story with one of the main
character going on a hunt. Saki states, [A] man stood one winter night watching and listening, as
though he waited for some beast of the woods to come within the range of his vision, and, later, of his

In other words, Saki says that we, as humans, have an animalistic nature. This animalistic nature traps
us in blindness. Saki has a theme of blood throughout the story. Saki states, [A] s boys they had

before, this is slightly ironic, being that the bloodlust was in boys; boys who are supposed to be
innocent and honorable. He continues with, Georg, who was nearly blinded with the blood which
trickled across his eyes (8). According to the Merriam Webster dictionary, bloodlust is the desire to
kill or maim others ; In order to kill things, you need to see them. Saki goes on to stating, No, I can
scarcely see anything; there is so much blood caked round my eyes, said Georg, and in any case I don

other words, they are being blinded by their animalistic nature. Georg s animalistic human nature has
blinded him in hatred, which has caused him to not be able to see the similarities between him and
Ulrich. This blindness leaves when we re raised in a kind civilization. Saki starts the story with the
two souls coming face to face with each other, which is what they ve been wanting for a long time.

Five Key Fundamentals Of Psychoanalysis
Psychoanalysis has many concepts that are complex for the lay reader to grasp instantaneously. To
understand what working through it, some background information is considered necessary. This
section introduces the relevant terminology and concepts.
Current psychoanalytic theory and practice has its origin in the writing of Freud (Etchegoyen, 2005).
The aim of analysis is to effect structural changes in the patient. Psychoanalysis consists of five key
fundamentals: (a) resistance (b) the transference of the patient and the counter transference of the
analyst, (c) the verbal material provided by the patient according to the principle of free association,
(d) interpretation, and (e) working through. Thus it relies on the work of psychoanalyst and the work
of the patient from the approach of the scientific realism (the idea that all objects, events and
processes are real). Scientific realism can be contrasted with the rational positivist approach of

Psychoanalysis was concerned with psychic events and the patient s emotions and feelings. The school
of ego psychology, object relations and self psychology were chosen for contrast in this thesis, as each
of these schools has evolved from Freudian psychoanalysis, emphasizing a variety of levels of
expansion of the psyche.
According to Kukla (2001), the ideologies of reality theory evolution are called the logic of
justification . He detained that theories are evaluated in terms of their virtuosity , or principles that can
be certified to them. Of these, the truth value of a theory is the most significant. Kukla wrote,
however, that the concrete truth value can be intricate to determine. Instead, other theoretical virtues
are used in the justification (evaluation) of a theory as an approximation to its truth value (Haig,

  • 3. The Greek Of Greek Tragedy Luke Allis, Greek Theatre Ancient Greek tragedy is still relevant today because the themes and issues expressed within it are still present in the 21st century such as undeserved suffering, death and relationships. The greeks produced many great works of art and theatre as well as revolutionising politics, ethics, aesthetics and philosophy with philosophers such as Plato and Aristotle and their theories such as their theories on form and Catharsis. Many people suggest that modern day theatre and performance is derived directly from Ancient Greek Theatre and Myths. Just life we do with politics, ethics, aesthetics and philosophy look to the greeks as the founders and while it is possible that this is true this itself is also a myth. The ancient greek empire ended almost 150 years BC, about 2066 years ago. In that time a lot of information regarding it and it s theatre has been lost or distorted (such as the destruction of The Library Of Alexandria) and thus we can t be certain that the information is 100% correct which means that this itself is a myth, we have evidence that points towards theatre originating from Ancient Greece but we can t be certain because there is also evidence pointing toward it originating from various other cultures from around the world such as the Egyptian Coronation Festival Play 3100 BC (History of theatre timeline, Glencoe.com) or primitive tribal dances and religious rituals dating even earlier than that. Before learning more about the sixth mass extinction, you ll have to first understand what biodiversity is and what will happen when you tamper with it. According to Anup Shah, author of Why is Biodiversity Important? Who Cares, biodiversity means the variety of life on Earth or in an ecosystem. Every species plays an important role in the ecosystem or in the world, no matter how big or small. A way to incorporate this into easier terms is the food chain or food web. Altering the biodiversity could cause the loss of an environment such as the Malayan field rat incident in the Chiew Larn islands. Laurance, William wrote the article, Islands of Extinction, which speaks of the Chiew Larn and how the reservoir was flooded. Larger animals perished due to the fact of how small Chiew Larn islands were during the flood. Chiew Larn island measures from 1 hectare, 2.5 acres, to 60 hectares, 148 acres. Some large animals such as tigers, deer, and elephants might have disappeared into the forest surrounds the reservoir. Because of this flood, it was easier for the Malayan field rat to come and invade the Chiew Larn islands. One of William colleague, Tony Lynam, traveled and did an experiment on the Chiew Larn islands after the flood. Tony s experiment was to use baited live traps to capture small mammals left on the island and ear tags them. The result that Lynam had discovered was astounding because the native mammal species had vanished within 10 hectares of the area (Laurance, 2014). The tragic change of the environment had lost the once healthy and plentiful biodiversity in the area. This is the start of an invader known as the Malayan field rat. Nonlinear Models The second analysis technique uses a probit and logit models with the payout variable taking a value of 1 if the sample firm uses the respective payout category in year t, and 0 otherwise. This is used by Fama and French (2001) and DeAngelo et al. (2006) and allows to measure the marginal propensity for the different payout categories while capturing the behaviour of firms that omit or initiate payout payments. We estimate a fixed effect logit model where the log likelihood of the probit model and the random effect logit model do not converge. Using fixed effect logit limits our work because the analysis considers only the explanatory variables within the subsample of firms that changed their payout policies during the sample period (Renneboog and Trojanowski, 2005). This excludes 22.1% of the original sample from the estimation procedure. We also use a multinomial logit estimation procedure to explain the likelihood that a firm decides on a specific payout category during the GR because we were unable to apply a multinomial probit estimation as used by Renneboog and Trajanowski (2011). As such, the independence of irrelevant alternatives (IIA) assumption may be violated by our outcome categories. We test for this violation using Hausman McFadden test of IIA assumption. Thomas came from a poor background but became a doctor. He also had an interest in science, which may have been where Barbara s interest originated (The Editors of Encyclopædia Britannica). In contrast, Sara McClintock came from a much wealthier, more prestigious background; her ancestors could be traced to Pilgrims on the Mayflower (Tracy). After her marriage, Sara, who became a mother of four, was a piano teacher to bring in more money for the family. The Pros And Cons Of Multitasking Having single pointed focus and no multitasking In today s modern hustle and bustle, people are very much preoccupied by their work, are always in hurry, engrossed in busy schedules and easily get agitated so much so that people have ingrained and imbibed a word to describe their efforts to respond to the many pressing demands on our time: Multitasking. Used for decades to describe the parallel processing abilities of computers, multitasking is now shorthand for the human attempt to do simultaneously as many things as possible and as quickly as possible. But more recently, ill effects of multitasking have begun to emerge. Numerous studies have shown the sometimes fatal danger of using cell phones and other electronic devices while driving, for example, and several states have now made that particular form of multitasking illegal ! Dr. Edward Hallowell, a Massachusetts based psychiatrist who specializes in the treatment of attention deficit hyperactivity disorder and has written a book with the self explanatory title CrazyBusy, has been offering therapies to combat extreme multitasking for years; in his book he calls multitasking a mythical activity in which people believe they can perform two or more tasks simultaneously. • 13. The Myths Of Rising College Cost Tuition charges have increased by a national average of 20% between 2008 and 2012 (Hiltonsmith Draut, 2014). Higher education stakeholders, such as students, parents, public policy makers, have expressed their worries about the rising tuition as it has triggered a public concern about college affordability (Mumper Freeman, 2011). For public colleges and universities, it was the first time that they have witnessed that tuition as a share of total revenue surpasses the state funding for public institutions nationwide in 2012 (U.S. Government Accountability Office, 2013). It imposes challenges to public higher education institutions to shift their dependence of revenue from state appropriations to tuition and other sources (Mulhern, Spies, Staiger Wu, 2015). A number of researches have investigate the myths of rising college cost (Archibald Feldman, 2012; Baumol, 1995; Bowen, 1980; Douglas Keeling, 2008; Heller, 2011; Martin, 2011; Mumper Freeman, 2011). In summary, the major factors that attribute to the rising college cost are: (1) the decline in state financial support for public higher education with the increasing support for other items (Mumper Freeman, 2011); (2) higher education institutions set their goals to be academic excellence, prestige, and influence. To achieve these goals, they tend to generate revenue source and there is no limit for the money they can generate. So they raise all the money they can and spend all the money they raised. The words caitiff, varlet, and wicked are repeated many times throughout the passage to give emphasis to Pompey s evil, cheating character. Pompey is brought to court to explain why he used Elbow s wife as a prostitute by pimping her out to Master Froth. He uses persuasion to try to get away of imprisonment for his crime. First he says, Once sir? There was nothing done to her once (2.1.128) He starts the conversation by trying to say that what he did was a good thing, or else it would not have happened more than once. Pompey seems to portray Elbow s wife s prostitution as a sacrifice to God (Froth). However, he is completely aware that he has committed a crime. How Stirling Engine Is A Type Of Heat Engine Essay Abstract: Stirling engine is a type of heat engine that operates by cyclic compression and expansion of working fluid of different temperature to convert heat energy into mechanical work. The concept of Stirling engine was introduced to overcome the problem of explosion and wastage of heat energy in steam engine. The key working principle of Stirling is a fixed amount of gas is sealed inside the closed space . Stirling engine can work on any solid or liquid fuel with very low exhaust emission. It operates without noise, have low cycle torque variation and a flat part load characteristics. With this type of advantageous attributes, Stirling engine come into sight for use in automotive application. Nevertheless, Stirling engine has very less realistic practical application in automotive. The reason behind that is easily availability of liquid fuel and internal combustion engine. Stirling engines are more expensive and most complicated than IC engine. In addition to that, it has low power density and sealing problems while working on high pressure and high speed. Moreover, It requires twice efficient cooling system compared to other engine of equivalent power. In past, there were plenty of experiments conducted to use Stirling engine in automotive section. But it was his victory at Bosworth field that brought him the throne, not his descent; his weak hereditary claim gave his accession some semblance of legitimacy. He had an early appreciation for the land, in particular, California s Salinas Valley, which would be a big impact on his writing later on. Steinbeck s life is very similar to the book he would write, Of Mice and Men, which takes place in his hometown Salinas, and also has the same theme of Steinbeck s life. Steinbeck experienced harshness in his life, drifting out of schools for six years until he dropped out for good. There are many themes found in the novel Of Mice and Men by John Steinbeck, but the most significant theme is the harshness of life, which frequently appears and develops throughout the novel. The harshness of life theme is shown right at the start of the book with two examples. The first example appears on page five when Lennie tries to cover up killing a mouse to George. George sees that Lennie is holding something and when he asks what it is, Lennie says Jus a dead mouse, George. I didn t kill it. Honest! I found it. I found it dead (5). This proves the harshness of life because Lennie could not control what he wanted. And in life, in order to succeed and live a good life, you are going to have to be able to control what you want. Another example of the harshness of life occurs when Lennie was talking about him petting the mice and how it s not under his control to stop it. He says I d pet em, and pretty soon they bit my fingers and I pinched their heads a little and then they was dead (10). This is a great example of the harshness of life because it shows killing. Lennie kills the fluffy animal, but he did not want to. Steinbeck shows with these two examples that harshness of life doesn t have to include only human beings, it also can be animals. The reason why George and Lennie travel together is in fact because of the harshness of life. When George is talking to Slim about Lennie and how they are together now, he says, I turns to Lennie and says, Jump in. An he jumps. Couldn t swim a stroke. He damn near drowned before we could get him (40). George was being a jerk to Lennie and ended up having to save his life. This is a big harshness of life because George was a jerk to ... • 25. The Typographic Mind By Neil Postman In the beginning of chapter four, The Typographic Mind, Neil Postman delivers an impressive narrative argument about the impact of print information culture on 17th and 19th century minds. Postman makes a few claims with respect to the contrasts between the written and spoken word. In this essay, there are four qualities of the typographic mind: attention span, listening ability, knowledge of issues, and literary language. First, Postman discusses attention span in reference to America s first debate between Stephen Douglas and Abraham Lincoln on August 21 1858. Attention span means the length of time during which a person can concentrate on a subject or idea. Postman first illustrates about people with disciplined minds who are able to attend and listen to a 4 5 hour lecture. People at that time can listen and gather information, so they are able to comprehend and structure sentences. One debate lasted three hours while another in 1858 went seven. Postman guarrateeds that Douglas and Lincoln who wrote speeches in advance are pure print and they have the power of typography to get the audience attention because their language was clear. The audiences who attended the debate must have had an equally extraordinary capacity to comprehend lengthy and complex sentences aurally (45). Much of it seemed either blindingly obvious, or like the moanings of a killjoy who can t bear that television is entertaining and that people are unable to process it through the ear , therefore ... Despite being set solely in the Yorkshire Moors in England, the delicate social hierarchy of class is clearly seen in the residents of both Wuthering Heights and Thrushcross Grange, in which Wuthering Heights lacks the class, refinement, and civilization of the latter. The civility of the Lintons in Thrushcross Grange transforms the once defiant and youthful Catherine into a mature and well groomed lady that develops an internal conflict between her love for the well mannered and wealthy Edgar Linton and the lowly Heathcliff. In Brontë s novel, Catherine emphasizes her characterization in a scene where she laments this internal conflict saying, I ve no more business to marry Edgar Linton than I have to be in heaven; and if the wicked man in there had not brought Heathcliff so low, I shouldn t have thought of it. • 29. The Expansion Of Modernity By Ferdinand T ÓŚ Nnies Most theorists agree that the expansion of modernity has resulted in the decline in the natural will based type of community, and has paved the way for less of a need for the Gemeinschaft type of society and the rise the Gesellschaft association, in which the individuals engage in impersonal and contractual arrangements, rather than a meaningful, emotionally invested relationship with others. Modernity is intrinsically disorderly because it encourages individuals to experiment, to hope, to gamble, and to be ambitious. Its social life lacks the predictability and the certainties that characterize societies governed by tradition. Individual creativity is exchanged for the security of calculable social obligations and the sense of belonging that emanate from fixed social bonds (Savage and Warde, 1993, p.150). Essentially, individuals give up a sense of belonging in order to experience what that have not, and could not in a traditional community. They give up the security of being a part of a group in order to gain individual creativity. THEORIES Ferdinand Tӧnnies is seen as the theorist with the most direct influence over later sociological work and communities. He wanted to eliminate the spatial contexts and superiority of neither village nor city life when analyzing communities, in attempt to identify the main features and quality of each way of life. He coined the terms Gemeinschaft and Gesellschaft, which would later be used by one of the founders of modern sociology, Max ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Our clothes are made overseas in factories by women and in some cases even children in unsuitable conditions. They work long hours and don t get paid much in return, it is said to be less than what they can afford to live on and made to work extra hours. This is why large stores like Primark and Asda can sell their clothes at such little cost. Some of the workers are said to be working 60 to 90 hours every week for as little as £17 per month. (Making social lives pg.88) The workers in the factories are grateful for their small wage and would struggle if the factories were to close and business was took elsewhere. The growth of consumption has caused a large increase in rubbish. This is due to people having more choice when out shopping. Many years ago women stayed at home and men went to work but now that both men and women are out earning there is a lot more disposable income which ends with people buying luxuries and upgrading items they already have. And how could peace be achieved through such violence? It is said that All who take the sword shall perish with the sword (Aquinas 484). Does that then mean that all wars should be condemned along with all who partake in it? According to St. Thomas Aquinas, not all acts of war can be justified; however, there are certain instances when a state should take up arms against another that threatens the peace and the safety of any group people. Yet, the battles and wars waged must not be of malicious intent, such as to humiliate, revenge, or simply destroy the other side. Therefore, it is the right of a nation to protect its people against an enemy and to take military actions if a direct threat is made against them, and if those military actions are executed solely for the purpose of the restoration of peace and the protection of those in danger, then any blood shed shall not be on the hands of those defending, but instead they shall hold the tools needed for peace.
