Unit 1 Tort Law
PA 310 Unit 1 Causes of Action Tort laws are laws that offer remedies to individuals harmed by
the unreasonable actions of others. Tort claims usually involve state law and are based on the
legal premise that individuals are liable for the consequences of their conduct if it results in
injury to others. Tort law only requires 4 elements to be shown. The first one is that the tortfeasor
owes the injured party a duty to do something or not to do something; two is that tortfeasor
breached the duty, based on the applicable standard of care that he/she is owed; three is that
tortfeasor action or inaction is the proximate cause of the injured party s injury; four is the injured
party has in fact suffered some type of injury (physical,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

boyfriend s death, appellant falsely reported the automobile as stolen. This resulted in the
respondent husband s arrest and detention in a police cell. Appellant was subsequently found
liable for false imprisonment of respondent husband and ordered to pay him compensatory and
punitive damages. The reason why I choose this case for financial distress is because the parent s

The Challenge of Educational Equity
If two people are swimming and one is drowning, is it appropriate to administer life saving
strategies to both or just the individual in need? Most would answer emphatically that the best
choice is to provide resources to the one that requires them. However, exchange an individual who
is drowning with student equity of access to excellence andJustdebate will likely ensue. Yet, just as
seen in the drowning analogy, equal student treatment is not always appropriate. It does not ensure
equity of access. Duke (2010) points out that equal opportunity ... may be insufficient to make up
for the accumulated effects of poverty, racial bias, and other social hurdles. Public school is an
extension of a manmade construct, government. As Tawney instructs, because men are men, social
institutions property rights, and the organization of industry, and the system of public health and
education should be planned, as far as possible, to emphasize and strengthen, not the class
differences which divide, but the common humanity which unites them. (Jackson, 1992, p. 15)
So it is appropriate that the creation and administration of public schools should provide for the
educational needs of its constituents in a matter that explicitly recognizes as well as programs for
their varying needs. While the mission is clear, the method and the challenges to that

Cannibalism, The Act Of Ingestion Of Human Flesh By Humans
Cannibalism, or anthropophagy, is the act of ingestion of human flesh by humans. the idea of
people eating other parts of other people is something that wherever and whenever humans have
conformed to their environment and had formed societies. Cannibalism isn t fake, you may see it in
books, on television shows and movies but the fact is that you can see this concept or this way of
life throughout history. The concept of cannibalism, its ethical encumbrances, and its cultural
expression in history and myth are unquestionably universal. To be human is to think about the
possibility of cannibalism. Anthropophagy is hard wired into the architecture of human
imagination. This human imagination is usually conceptualized through common folklore and
common stories and the cannibalistic image is expressed by Cannibal giants, ogres, bogies, and
goblins. The idea of cannibalism may strike people as something that would rarely happen and you
don t see it today but the truth is that this barbaric ideology was rampant throughout the world
through many eras of history. It could state in your history textbook that You can see cannibalism
in societies in tribes and in many other places of the world in the past but you can even see it
today, but there is a very small amount of places throughout the world you can see this unruly act.
Cannibalism isn t just eating ones flesh out of having sustenance but throughout history you can see

Descriptive Essay On Fort Fisher
Fort Fisher is one of the most beautiful places in Brunswick County. Many people travel from all
over to see the historical site. Myself, I m not much of a history person. The Aquarium here is
what really captivates me. The wildlife here and everything they do for these animals is amazing.
So much can be learned from walking through this aquarium. So many species reside here, all
different, and all special. Before entering the adventure that awaits, there are rather large fish
statues at the front of the aquarium. They are surrounded by water and it seems people have
been throwing coins in the make wishes. Upon entering the building, the first area is the fresh
waterways. As entering, there is another statue, but this time, a life size crocodile. Going
through, there is the sound of waterfalls, and the sound of mist being sprayed into the air to keep
the humidity level consistent. Walking farther in the area, the first thing that caught my eye
was a bald eagle on my left. This one hurt his left wing and could no longer fly. He was beautiful,
nonetheless. Continuing in the fresh waterways area, there are many different species of
freshwater fish. One that may catch many people s eyes is the longnose gar. It is a very odd
looking fish as it has a very long and skinny nose, and quite large, so they have a very large tank
as well. Next to the freshwater fish, this area moves on to reptiles. The next one are the snakes to
be exact. A total of five species residing in one tank.

Popular Culture Analysis There has never been a time when popular culture has been more
pervasive and influential in American society. With advances in technology and creative
innovation, outlets for popular culture have expanded greatly and are virtually innumerable.
Through the consumption of television, music, magazines, movies, newspapers, blogs, and memes
to name a few, American citizens and others around the globe are inundated with ideals and
images that work to mold their collective psyche by impacting every facet of their daily lives and
by providing a critique of modern day society. Perhaps much of the influence of popular culture lies

Genetic Disease And The Medical World
Genetics plays a large role in the medical world, specifically when dealing with disease. Some
genetic diseases remain a mystery as to their specific origins, but this only highlights the
importance of continued research and an accurate and complete knowledge of one s family
medical history. This paper will cover one inherited genetic disease for which there is no cure, Fatal
Familial Insomnia( Self management of Fatal Familial Insomnia. Part 1: What is FFI? , 2006, p.
65). This particular disease was chosen due to its severity, swiftness with which it ends life, and its
ability to exist undetected without symptoms for decades unless one s family history is known.
Fatal Familial Insomnia, (FFI), is a neurodegenerative priondisease classified as a Transmissible
Spongiform Encephalopathy, (TSE), meaning that it is genetically transmitted (Belay, 1999, p.
284). FFI is autosomal dominant (Xie et al., 2013, p81 90), meaning that an individual with A or
AA alleles, a component of a gene pair, could carry this gene (Ireland, 2013). The capital, A or
AA , denotes a dominant genetic trait (Ireland, 2013). The carrier will usually only present with
one mutated gene and one normal gene in these cases which would be symbolized as, Aa ,
meaning the genotype is heterozygous, one dominant coded allele and one recessive (Ireland,
2013). Due to this 50 50 presentation of the gene itself, the likelihood of passing an autosomal
dominant disorder or gene to offspring is also 50 50. The

College Success
For many years, the idea of success in life has been simple enough: a person embarks in school
for twelve years, follows up with college, and that will lead to them having a successful life and
career in adulthood. Meant to be a natural progression , for many, college was just the next step in
life and simply made sense. There weren t many other choices to be made in that regard. You
wanted a good life? You went to college. You wanted money? College. You do not want to work at
McDonald s for the rest of your life? College. You want a guaranteed future? College.
But this is, unsurprisingly, not an option and future open to many, but not to all and it is not so
simple to come by for many. Social class, race, location, the type of education received, and an
individual s personality all often play a part in a person s ability to get that next step in life to
better themselves. Even upon acceptance, success is not guaranteed to a person at all times, a
lesson I initially learned in a difficult manner. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Rod-Shaped Cell Case Study
1. Under a microscope, you can see a rod shaped cell that is rapidly swimming forward. What do
you automatically know about the bacterium s structure?
How would the bacterium use its flagellum for chemotaxis?
Bacillus is a rod shaped cell. The flagellum on the surface of the bacterium can detect nutrients in
the environment and they are drawn to it when the nutrient concentration is high. It spins its
flagella to swim towards the nutrient. The movement responding to chemical gradient is called
chemotaxis. When the bacterium feels the decrease in nutrient concentration, it will change its
direction and orient to move where it can get a high nutrient source. If it detects a potential toxic
chemical it will draw away and spin and swim away ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This is a virus that may cause the formation of papillomas and deadly malignant tumors. A
common term for a papilloma is a wart. The epithelium, or epithelial layer that these warts are
found on is the layer of tissue that lines the outer surface of the body, skin and mucous
membranes, as well as hollow organs, like the stomach or uterus and the body glands. However,
the virus itself infects the basal, or bottom most portion of the epithelium, when the epithelium is
traumatized by something like a cut or micro abrasion. When it touches the area of the skin or
mucous membranes that have a papilloma to any area of your damaged skin, it is a way to get
infected. It can get you infected even without visible wart. HPV may occur by having contact
with people showing no signs of the disease. HPV can cause deadly disease, notably cervical
cancer. This is a malignant tumor of the cervix. HPV has also been implicated with massive
amounts of warts growing in respiratory tract, suffocating people to death and also cancers affecting

Wonder Woman Hero
Spider Man and Wonder Woman are not similar to the stereotypical heroes at the time, but they
still had the attributes of a true hero. In the past, Stan Lee had thought of a superhero that would
be similar to teenagers. Stan Lee wanted to construct a hero that people could relate to, and in the
end he created Spider Man. Spider Man simply had the same abilities as a spider. Then in 1941,
Wonder Woman made her first appearance from the mind of William Moulton Marston
. William
supported women s rights since his college days, and he wanted to have equality for each gender
in all human activities. In addition, people believed that comics were bad for kids, but William
believed not. Wonder Woman s set of skills is that she could fly, had immense speed, strength, and
smarts. Additionally, Wonder Woman also wielded a lasso that could make anyone tell the truth if
caught by it, and this lasso is inspired from William s polygraph, which was able to detect lies.

1 Executive Summary
Lately with the development of distributed computing, issues services that utilizes web and require
enormous amount of data come to forefront. For Organizations like Facebook and Google the web
has developed has a vast, distributed data repository for which handling by conventional DBMS is
not sufficient. Rather than extending on the hardware capabilities, a more realistic approach has
been accepted. Technically, it is an instance of scaling through dynamic adding servers from the
reasons increasing either information volume in the repository or the number of users of this
repository. In this scenario, the big data problem is frequently examined and in addition explained
on a technological level of web databases.
Dealing with this issue was more and more difficult using relational database technology.
Pioneering work from large companies generated tremendous interest and open source NoSQL
database projects formed to leverage the work of the pioneers. Today, the use of Key/Value
database based on NoSQL technology is increasingly viewed as a practical alternative to relational
databases, particularly as more organizations recognize that working at scale is all the more
effectively accomplished running on clusters of standard and a schema less data model

Alternative Outcome Analysis Of The Battle Of Fredericksburg
Alternative Outcome Analysis of the Battle of Fredericksburg
SSG Ian J. Watterson
U.S. Army
Abstract
This paper will examine the Battle of Fredericksburg through the research of analytical papers,
historical articles and technical reports by conducting the four steps of battle analysis. It will
analyze the effects of the use and dismissal of intelligence assets and disciplines when applied to
the planning of a territorial battle campaign. Using terrain analysis it will discuss how the choice of
advantageous terrain can sway the outcome of a battle. It will also discuss how timing and
momentum can be critical to our overall military planning. Finally, it will present an alternative
outcome to the battle by establishing the utilization of intelligence assets available to both
commanding generals and how altering critical decision points would have presented a significantly
different result.

the audience believe that the camera is viewing things through the shark s eyes, he uses a camera

do nothing but scream, splash and attempt to believe he can escape from the sharks clutches. Alex is
dragged down violently as he tries to gasp for breath; he is finally dragged and lost to the depths

Similarities Between Ruildk And Angkor Wat
To begin with, the Colosseum and Angkor Wat have very different distinction in their designs and
construction techniques. First of all, the two buildings were constructed in different time period.
The Colosseum began construction in 69 CE under the order of King Vespasian, whereas Angkor
Wat was built later in the early 9th century under King Surayavarman II`s command (Cartwright,
2012 and Lee, 2013). Secondly, the type of stones that were used to build the Colosseum and
Angkor Wat are different. According to Lee (2013), the early Khmer civilization first started
building the temple by finding clay from the surrounding region and convert those into bricks but
later changed to using all stone blocks instead in their quest to build the temple... Show more

First of all, both buildings suffer from the natural cause and their old ages. Built over a thousand
years ago, the Angkor Wat has withstood tremendous raining and countless storms that seem to
weaken its infrastructure over the years. The same goes to the Colosseum, it has been noted to
be severely damaged by lighting and earthquake (Britannica, 2014) Second of all, the reason for
the damages of both building is because of the falls of their early civilization. As stated by
Corfield (2009), after a major attack from the Siamese, King Ponhea Yat had decided to moved
the capital city from Siem Reap to Phnom Penh to avoid being invaded thus leaving the Angkor
Wat behind. As for the Colosseum of Rome, after the gladiator fight has stopped, the amphitheater
has gradualy lost its popularity and started being neglect by the Roman people (Cartwright,
2012). Last but not least, the Colosseum and Angkor Wat are also being damaged by vandalism
and inappropriate behavior from foreign visitors. The amount of headless statues inside Angkor
Wat keeps increasing because of Vandalism (Perlez, 2005). The colosseum as well is a victim of
vandalism and is in the process of restoration (BBC,

Reasons For The Compromise Of 1877
Following the Compromise of 1877, many supporters of black rights, such as freed slaves or
radical Republicans, believed that conditions for freed blacks were worse than they had been when
they were enslaved. Though there were definitely upsides to freedom from slavery, many
conditions blacks lived under either didn t change or got worse after the Compromise. For example,
the removal of the military from the South allowed the southern government to pass laws limiting
blacks rights, meaning the social, political and economic conditions after the compromise were
similar to the ones they had lived with under slavery; the legalization of segregation made it more
difficult for blacks to influence white perception of their race; and violence against blacks
increased, and white protection of them decreased, as many saw them as less valuable once they
had been released from slavery. The compromise ended the reconstruction, which meant that the
military presence in the south, which had been virtually the only thing keeping a semblance of
order, was removed. This resulted in widespread and often unpunished violence against blacks. It
also left the southern government free to operate by itself, and measures were quickly taken to
limit the rights of blacks. Education budgets were cut, sharecropping regulations were changed in
order to favor plantation owners, and the right to vote was taken away from blacks. Blacks were
free from slavery, but they had nearly the exact same

The Pardoner of The Canterbury Tales Essay
The Pardoner of The Canterbury Tales
How can a man exact vengeance on God if there is nothing a mortal can do to hurt Him? The
Pardoner was born sterile, which resulted in abnormal physical development. He blames God for his
deformities and attempts to attack God by attacking the link between God and mankind the Church.
In The Canterbury Tales, Chaucer indirectly depicts the characters through the stories they tell. The
tale is a window upon the person that tells it. However, the Pardoner s tale seems to contradict this
situation. The Pardoner, an immoral man, tells a moral story because he believes that doing this
will further his ultimate objective revenge upon God for his anomalous physical attributes. He had

The Pardoner s tale has an important theme, Radix malorum est cupiditas, which translates to
Greed is the root of all evil. However, the Pardoner does not practice what he preaches. His vocation
, which involves selling false pardons and relics for a profit, is a contradiction to his theme. And
thus I preach against the very vice/ I make my living out of avarice (243). The Pardoner continues
with his tale and condemns gluttony, drinking, gambling, and swearing, but then declares that he is
guilty of each one. It is evident that the Pardoner is a hypocrite and that he has no intention of
changing.
In the tale, three young rioters discover that a good friend has died and they mistakenly believe
he was killed by a man named Death. They pledge that they will find Death and avenge their
friend. As they embark on their quest, they pass by an old man and criticize his age. They inquire

Essay about Aseptic Processing Contamination Case S
Richard L. Friedman s main argument in Aseptic Processing Contamination Case Studies and the
Pharmaceutical Quality System is: The author concludes that the sterile dosage form contamination
issues can emerge in the deficient design concepts and the daily operations of the pharmaceutical
industry determine safety and efficacy of drug products by analysis of 8 case studies. In this paper,
the following system deficiencies are mentioned: production system, packaging and labeling
system, facilities and equipment system, material system, and lab control. What I learnt from this
paper is the importance of supplier audit, rational design of validation method and facilities design.
Firstly, supplier audit is important. Although the author... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The good quality of the vendor s product can also help the customer to guarantee their finished
product quality.
Secondly, the rational design of validation method is very important. In the case study 1 Aseptic
Processing of a Sterile Active Pharmaceutical Ingredient (API) , the process simulation (i.e., media
fill) program was not adequately representative of the actual manufacturing process. The process
simulation validation program is used to detect and diagnose an existing source of contamination.
However, some companies do not realize this usage, and the process simulation validation program
designed does not reflect the actual situation of production. Not just only for the simulation
validation, other validations, like analysis methodology validation, equipment performance
qualification, also exist this kind of problem, that is, the method used to validate/qualify does not
have a sufficient sensibility and representativeness. Many engineers do not know how to design the
validation method; even they do not like to perform the validation, but FDA mandates to perform
validation, so some of engineers copy with it just for FDA inspection, not for keeping the quality
of production. It is clear to cause the waste of manpower, material and financial resources. Good
validation design cannot only help to maintain a robust quality

Political Theory Essay
John Hultgren
10/30/2014
Essay Foucault is a very famous name when it comes to political theory. In our contemporary theory
politics course, one of the required reading materials was Foucault s Discipline and Punish.
Foucault had these very strong ideas about punishment, especially about, the modern penal system
or otherwise known as prison. Foucault was very analytic about discipline and punishment prior to
the eighteenth century. In the beginning of Discipline and Punish, Foucault explains how prior to
the eighteenth century, punishment was something that was used as severe torture to the human
body, as well as explaining how when people were punished, punishments usually were public
and or ceremonial. Foucault had strong ideas and he mentioned some very important terms to
make his argument. To help the reader of this essay, some very important key terms will be
defined. These key terms include, knowledge, power, discipline, panopticism, and politics.
Hopefully these key terms can help the reader understand Foucault s beliefs and ideas, as well as
the second part of the essay where Foucault s ideas will be related to modern day pop culture.
Two very important terms that are the foundation of Foucault s work are, knowledge and power.
The root of Foucault s analytic would be those two previous words. Foucault does not view power
as a negative thing, because he believes it is something that is always going to exist. Foucault

Law Enforcement Workforce Challenges
Maintaining the law enforcement workforce levels is one of the most prominent challenges facing
law enforcement in the 21st century. Henceforth recruiting candidates to law enforcement is one of
the most significant challenges facing law enforcement agencies in the 21st century, regardless of
whether the agency is large or small. Studies routinely demonstrate these challenges are magnified
due to diminished candidate pools of candidates considering law enforcement as a career, increased
attrition rates, increased responsibilities, low compensation and social media atmosphere not
conducive to law enforcement Unfortunately, these challenges have not escaped the Johnson

Trafficking And Organized Crime During Latin America
In the last decades, narco trafficking and organized crime had emerged as the main security threats
in Latin America. Deviant globalization increase their power by establishing connections with
similar organizations in other parts of the world, like cocaine distribution networks, for example.
This perceived danger increases the pressure on the governments for effective solutions, and some
of them consider that these problems had overwhelmed the capabilities of the local police.
Consequently, the intervention of military forces would be necessary to secure the stability of the
countries. However, the use of force as the only solution is the outcome of a misunderstanding of
the root causes that generates them. This paper presents the research for a general pattern in the
region that is helpful to understand how the civil society perceives the failures of governance and
how the networks of illegal activities exploit this perception.
What is the relation between weak national governance and security threats in Latin America?
This research establish weak governance as an enabler for the emergence of security threats in Latin
America related to transnational organized crime. Lack of effective action of the administration to
provide basic services and proper conditions for the population resulted in alternate ways to get
them, with the consequent undermining of the institutions and norms.

Jane’s Path to Prosperity Essay
Jane s Path to Prosperity
In The beginning of Jane Eyre, Charlotte Bronte introduces Jane as an orphan girl who is residing
at Gateshead with Mrs. Reed and her children. Bronte walks us through the episodes of Jane s life
as she moves to Lowood, Thronfield, Moor House, and finally to Ferndean. Throughout these
stages, Bronte will show how charity was depicted through the interactions that Jane had. Through
these perspectives we will see that the results of how charity was regarded, based on the nineteenth
century concepts and views that Bronte discusses, point out the significance of charity in Jane Eyre.
Charlotte s focus on charity in her novel revolves not only around giving money to orphans, but

Bronte s views on charity are first seen through the actions in the Reed household. Jane is an
orphan girl left to be taken care of by her uncle. However, her uncle passed away when she was
very young and she remains in the custody of the bitter Reeds. The reason as to why they are
bitter is because they are greedy and disregard Jane in all they do. In spite of the fact that she is
poor and has no family that cares for her, they harass and mock her instead of giving her love and
care. From an incident at the beginning of the novel, we can clearly see how Jane is mistreated.
When Jane is a girl of about nine years old, we learn that she has an interest in reading books.
She feels that reading will allow her to experience some of the excitement in the books
considering that she isn t part of the Reed family and is excluded from everything else that they
do. Even by engaging herself with reading some of their books, which were scarcely used by the
Reeds, Jane had to be punished for laying hands on their so called property because in their views,
since she s poor, she s unfit to touch them. We can see how cruel the Reeds are when John
confronts Jane for using their books:
You have no business to take our books; you are a dependant, mama says; you have no money:

various practices that give numerous individuals a sense of purpose in the world and allows these
individuals to understand things beyond their reach. However, while reading the articles from
Nones on the Rise, it is evident that there is an increase in the number of individuals who claim
unaffiliation to any religionin the United States. Nones gives the facts and figures of the Americans
who do not place themselves in any religious category, with an approximate one in five of the
public claiming no affiliation. But there are some individuals who denote themselves as spiritual
or religious in some way. The entire article is an intriguing one because it breaks everything
down, from what it means to be unaffiliated religiously to the composition of the unaffiliated, the
demographics of the unaffiliated and theories as to why there is an increase in the numbers of the
years. It is interesting to see how people view themselves when it comes to their beliefs. The
article discusses a couple of reasons behind the increase of unaffiliated Americans. It is thought
that the growth is a result of newer generations replacing older generations. It is evident that elders
are more likely to proclaim religion than young adults. This is not the only factor. In addition to the
general replacement, the decrease of religious commitment among some of the individuals is also

The Importance Of Life In Captivity For Animals
Life in captivity for animals is comparable in some situations to humans living inside of a prison.
The restrictions that are imposed on these animals while in captivity are unbearable living
conditions that affect the animal both mentally and physically. The animals understand that this
is not their home which leads to the breakdown of their psyche. One example of this comes from
a zoo in the United Kingdom. In the year 1979, the Bristol Zoo gained a new animal which
would become one of their biggest attractions. Misha the male polar bear caught the eye of the
public with his unusual and odd behavior. Researchers that studied animal rights in the late
twentieth century linked this behavior to Misha s enclosure at the zoo. Researchers came to the
conclusion that the prison like living conditions that Misha encountered was the cause of his
psychotic appearance. The public had described him as looking like a beast who was breaking
down as a result of the captivity instead of an average polar bear in a zoo. The zoo was able to
view Misha through surveillance during this entire process, similar to humans living in a prison or
an asylum. According to the article by Andrew Flack, Following media attention from animal
rights organizations and the media between 1985 and the early 1990s, Misha s psychotic
appearance in a repeatedly evoked image of the prisons and asylums of the past, where surveillance,
spectacle, and suffering collided to alter the natures of the beasts within

Recession cycles are thought to be a normal part of living in a world of inexact balances between
supply and demand. What turns a usually mild and short recession or ordinary business cycle
into an actual depression is a subject of debate and concern. Scholars have not agreed on the
exact causes and their relative importance. The search for causes is closely connected to the
question of how to avoid a future depression, and so the political and policy viewpoints of
scholars are mixed into the analysis of historic events eight decades ago. The even larger
question is whether it was largely a failure on the part of free markets or largely a failure on the
part of government efforts to regulate interest rates, curtail widespread bank failures, and control
the money supply. Those who believe in a large role for the state in the economy believe it was
mostly a failure of the free markets and those who believe in free markets believe it was mostly a
failure of government that compounded the problem. Current theories may be broadly classified
into three main points of view. First there are the monetarists, who believe that the Great
Depression started as an ordinary recession, but that significant policy mistakes by monetary
authorities (especially the Federal Reserve), caused a shrinking of the money supply which greatly

Bella Abzug Women
Not all women are capable of doing most jobs, but the same applies to men, and it took far too
long for this realization to flow across America. Not too long ago, it was even a struggle for
women to be able to take on the secondary positions in the workplace or any work at all. In her
book Bella!: Ms. Abzug Goes to Washington, Bella Abzug argued, the test of whether or not you
can hold a job should not be in the arrangement of your chromosomes (80). Fortunately, in today s
day and age it is uncommon for a womanto fail in a job search entirely because of her gender, but in
the past that was the case. Society created an idea that females were not good enough to hold their
own job, so the duty of providing for the family was left to their husbands. For years, the majority
of society did not realize that every individual has their own strengths and weaknesses, and neither
men nor women are automatically more qualified than the other. As Abzug was trying to

towards the Chinese grew, as unemployed Canadians could not compete with cheap Chinese

demonstrations against Asian labour. In 1907, there was a particularly large demonstration against
Asian immigrants in Vancouver s Chinatown.[4] In response to the demonstrations, Deputy

subject matter achievement, instructional experiences, and school environment. It covers twelve
different subject areas: the arts, civics, economics, foreign language, geography, mathematics,
reading, science, technology and engineering literacy, U.S. history, world history, and writing.
Each assessment takes 90 minutes. Currently it is a paper and pencil test, but it is moving into
computer based applications. It is conducted in a group setting and submitted to another party for
scoring. The results do not provide individual scores. The goal of this assessment is to represent a
report card for the nation as a whole. However, each state can get the data for its region. Educators
can use this information to collaborate and determine what general areas need improvement or

Instructor assignment #4: Media Plan for IZZE Sparkling Soda
The media we chose to put an emphasis on is radio, Internet and cable television. The percentages

chosen to place our advertisements on the weekday morning drive time from 6am to 10am and on
weekends from 7pm to midnight. The vehicles chosen for Internet are the websites iTunes, ESPN
and iHeart Radio. For Cable Televisionservices we have chosen the vehicles Spike TV, Food

According to the United Nations Report, 1.5 billion Internet users are male, while 1.3 billion
are female. This statistic supports our decision for choosing this specific medium. In Media
Mark, we searched both Other Regular Soft Drinks and Sparkling Water. We compared the two
reports and selected the highest reach/index numbers. The vehicles we found specific to our
target audience are iTunes, which has a reach of 35,600,000 and an index number of 135, ESPN
with a reach of 36,455,000 and an index number of 111 and iHeart Radio, which had a reach of
12,771,000 and an index number of 117. Other websites that we considered but did not choose
were Pandora (46,726,000/109) and NFL (17,898,000/110). From this research we were able to
determine that our target had an interest in music and sports. This further supports our decision to
place a larger emphasis on radio.
From the PowerPoint, we learned that Cable Television is a highly persuasive medium because
it offers sight, sound and motion. It also reaches a large audience and specifically captures the
attention of our hard to reach target (males 18 34). We chose Cable Television over other
mediums because it provides narrowcasting opportunities to focus in on specific targets. The
vehicles that we chose within this medium are Spike TV with a reach of 35,794,000 and an index

  • 2. Unit 1 Tort Law PA 310 Unit 1 Causes of Action Tort laws are laws that offer remedies to individuals harmed by the unreasonable actions of others. Tort claims usually involve state law and are based on the legal premise that individuals are liable for the consequences of their conduct if it results in injury to others. Tort law only requires 4 elements to be shown. The first one is that the tortfeasor owes the injured party a duty to do something or not to do something; two is that tortfeasor breached the duty, based on the applicable standard of care that he/she is owed; three is that tortfeasor action or inaction is the proximate cause of the injured party s injury; four is the injured party has in fact suffered some type of injury (physical,... Rob Sr. and Bunny Sherman causes of action against Church of the Divine Light: Washington v. Farlice, 1 Cal. App. 4th 766 (Cal. Ct. App. 1991) Appellant provided financial assistance to her deceased boyfriend to purchase his daughter, respondent, and a car. In an effort to retrieve the car after the boyfriend s death, appellant falsely reported the automobile as stolen. This resulted in the respondent husband s arrest and detention in a police cell. Appellant was subsequently found liable for false imprisonment of respondent husband and ordered to pay him compensatory and punitive damages. The reason why I choose this case for financial distress is because the parent s of Rob Jr. provided financial assistance to the Church of the Divine to support their child while he was being held at the church. • 3. The Challenge Of Educational Equity Essay aa Type your title Precios Armstrong Discussion Board #2 EDL 700 Dr. Martin Dr. Shepard The Challenge of Educational Equity If two people are swimming and one is drowning, is it appropriate to administer life saving strategies to both or just the individual in need? Most would answer emphatically that the best choice is to provide resources to the one that requires them. However, exchange an individual who is drowning with student equity of access to excellence andJustdebate will likely ensue. Yet, just as seen in the drowning analogy, equal student treatment is not always appropriate. It does not ensure equity of access. Duke (2010) points out that equal opportunity ... may be insufficient to make up for the accumulated effects of poverty, racial bias, and other social hurdles. Public school is an extension of a manmade construct, government. As Tawney instructs, because men are men, social institutions property rights, and the organization of industry, and the system of public health and education should be planned, as far as possible, to emphasize and strengthen, not the class differences which divide, but the common humanity which unites them. (Jackson, 1992, p. 15) So it is appropriate that the creation and administration of public schools should provide for the educational needs of its constituents in a matter that explicitly recognizes as well as programs for their varying needs. Cannibalism, The Act Of Ingestion Of Human Flesh By Humans Cannibalism, or anthropophagy, is the act of ingestion of human flesh by humans. the idea of people eating other parts of other people is something that wherever and whenever humans have conformed to their environment and had formed societies. Cannibalism isn t fake, you may see it in books, on television shows and movies but the fact is that you can see this concept or this way of life throughout history. The concept of cannibalism, its ethical encumbrances, and its cultural expression in history and myth are unquestionably universal. To be human is to think about the possibility of cannibalism. Anthropophagy is hard wired into the architecture of human imagination. This human imagination is usually conceptualized through common folklore and common stories and the cannibalistic image is expressed by Cannibal giants, ogres, bogies, and goblins. The idea of cannibalism may strike people as something that would rarely happen and you don t see it today but the truth is that this barbaric ideology was rampant throughout the world through many eras of history. It could state in your history textbook that You can see cannibalism in societies in tribes and in many other places of the world in the past but you can even see it today, but there is a very small amount of places throughout the world you can see this unruly act. Cannibalism isn t just eating ones flesh out of having sustenance but throughout history you can see cannibalistic acts could have certain motifs and different ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Descriptive Essay On Fort Fisher Fort Fisher is one of the most beautiful places in Brunswick County. Many people travel from all over to see the historical site. Myself, I m not much of a history person. The Aquarium here is what really captivates me. The wildlife here and everything they do for these animals is amazing. So much can be learned from walking through this aquarium. So many species reside here, all different, and all special. Before entering the adventure that awaits, there are rather large fish statues at the front of the aquarium. They are surrounded by water and it seems people have been throwing coins in the make wishes. Upon entering the building, the first area is the fresh waterways. As entering, there is another statue, but this time, a life size crocodile. Going through, there is the sound of waterfalls, and the sound of mist being sprayed into the air to keep the humidity level consistent. Walking farther in the area, the first thing that caught my eye was a bald eagle on my left. This one hurt his left wing and could no longer fly. He was beautiful, nonetheless. Continuing in the fresh waterways area, there are many different species of freshwater fish. One that may catch many people s eyes is the longnose gar. It is a very odd looking fish as it has a very long and skinny nose, and quite large, so they have a very large tank as well. Next to the freshwater fish, this area moves on to reptiles. The next one are the snakes to be exact. A total of five species residing in one tank. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 8. Genetic Disease And The Medical World Genetics plays a large role in the medical world, specifically when dealing with disease. Some genetic diseases remain a mystery as to their specific origins, but this only highlights the importance of continued research and an accurate and complete knowledge of one s family medical history. This paper will cover one inherited genetic disease for which there is no cure, Fatal Familial Insomnia( Self management of Fatal Familial Insomnia. Part 1: What is FFI? , 2006, p. 65). This particular disease was chosen due to its severity, swiftness with which it ends life, and its ability to exist undetected without symptoms for decades unless one s family history is known. Fatal Familial Insomnia, (FFI), is a neurodegenerative priondisease classified as a Transmissible Spongiform Encephalopathy, (TSE), meaning that it is genetically transmitted (Belay, 1999, p. 284). FFI is autosomal dominant (Xie et al., 2013, p81 90), meaning that an individual with A or AA alleles, a component of a gene pair, could carry this gene (Ireland, 2013). The capital, A or AA , denotes a dominant genetic trait (Ireland, 2013). The carrier will usually only present with one mutated gene and one normal gene in these cases which would be symbolized as, Aa , meaning the genotype is heterozygous, one dominant coded allele and one recessive (Ireland, 2013). Due to this 50 50 presentation of the gene itself, the likelihood of passing an autosomal dominant disorder or gene to offspring is also 50 50. The ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 9. College Success For many years, the idea of success in life has been simple enough: a person embarks in school for twelve years, follows up with college, and that will lead to them having a successful life and career in adulthood. Meant to be a natural progression , for many, college was just the next step in life and simply made sense. There weren t many other choices to be made in that regard. You wanted a good life? You went to college. You wanted money? College. You do not want to work at McDonald s for the rest of your life? College. You want a guaranteed future? College. But this is, unsurprisingly, not an option and future open to many, but not to all and it is not so simple to come by for many. Social class, race, location, the type of education received, and an individual s personality all often play a part in a person s ability to get that next step in life to better themselves. The flagellum on the surface of the bacterium can detect nutrients in the environment and they are drawn to it when the nutrient concentration is high. It spins its flagella to swim towards the nutrient. The movement responding to chemical gradient is called chemotaxis. When the bacterium feels the decrease in nutrient concentration, it will change its direction and orient to move where it can get a high nutrient source. In the past, Stan Lee had thought of a superhero that would be similar to teenagers. Stan Lee wanted to construct a hero that people could relate to, and in the end he created Spider Man. Spider Man simply had the same abilities as a spider. Then in 1941, Wonder Woman made her first appearance from the mind of William Moulton Marston . William supported women s rights since his college days, and he wanted to have equality for each gender in all human activities. In addition, people believed that comics were bad for kids, but William believed not. Wonder Woman s set of skills is that she could fly, had immense speed, strength, and smarts. Additionally, Wonder Woman also wielded a lasso that could make anyone tell the truth if caught by it, and this lasso is inspired from William s polygraph, which was able to detect lies. For Organizations like Facebook and Google the web has developed has a vast, distributed data repository for which handling by conventional DBMS is not sufficient. Rather than extending on the hardware capabilities, a more realistic approach has been accepted. Technically, it is an instance of scaling through dynamic adding servers from the reasons increasing either information volume in the repository or the number of users of this repository. In this scenario, the big data problem is frequently examined and in addition explained on a technological level of web databases. Dealing with this issue was more and more difficult using relational database technology. Pioneering work from large companies generated tremendous interest and open source NoSQL database projects formed to leverage the work of the pioneers. Today, the use of Key/Value database based on NoSQL technology is increasingly viewed as a practical alternative to relational databases, particularly as more organizations recognize that working at scale is all the more effectively accomplished running on clusters of standard and a schema less data model ... Watterson U.S. Army Abstract This paper will examine the Battle of Fredericksburg through the research of analytical papers, historical articles and technical reports by conducting the four steps of battle analysis. It will analyze the effects of the use and dismissal of intelligence assets and disciplines when applied to the planning of a territorial battle campaign. Using terrain analysis it will discuss how the choice of advantageous terrain can sway the outcome of a battle. It will also discuss how timing and momentum can be critical to our overall military planning. Finally, it will present an alternative outcome to the battle by establishing the utilization of intelligence assets available to both commanding generals and how altering critical decision points would have presented a significantly different result. Alternative Outcome Analysis of the Battle of Fredericksburg The Battle of Fredericksburg The Battle of Fredericksburg is remembered as the Confederate Army s most one sided victory in its campaign against the Union Forces of the North. It was also the first battle to occur shortly after President Abraham Lincoln had delivered his Emancipation Proclamation and the President was hard pressed for a victory to use to bolster public support for it. • 18. Similarities Between Ruildk And Angkor Wat To begin with, the Colosseum and Angkor Wat have very different distinction in their designs and construction techniques. First of all, the two buildings were constructed in different time period. The Colosseum began construction in 69 CE under the order of King Vespasian, whereas Angkor Wat was built later in the early 9th century under King Surayavarman II`s command (Cartwright, 2012 and Lee, 2013). Secondly, the type of stones that were used to build the Colosseum and Angkor Wat are different. According to Lee (2013), the early Khmer civilization first started building the temple by finding clay from the surrounding region and convert those into bricks but later changed to using all stone blocks instead in their quest to build the temple... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... First of all, both buildings suffer from the natural cause and their old ages. Built over a thousand years ago, the Angkor Wat has withstood tremendous raining and countless storms that seem to weaken its infrastructure over the years. The same goes to the Colosseum, it has been noted to be severely damaged by lighting and earthquake (Britannica, 2014) Second of all, the reason for the damages of both building is because of the falls of their early civilization. As stated by Corfield (2009), after a major attack from the Siamese, King Ponhea Yat had decided to moved the capital city from Siem Reap to Phnom Penh to avoid being invaded thus leaving the Angkor Wat behind. As for the Colosseum of Rome, after the gladiator fight has stopped, the amphitheater has gradualy lost its popularity and started being neglect by the Roman people (Cartwright, 2012). Last but not least, the Colosseum and Angkor Wat are also being damaged by vandalism and inappropriate behavior from foreign visitors. The amount of headless statues inside Angkor Wat keeps increasing because of Vandalism (Perlez, 2005). The colosseum as well is a victim of vandalism and is in the process of restoration (BBC, ... • 19. Reasons For The Compromise Of 1877 Following the Compromise of 1877, many supporters of black rights, such as freed slaves or radical Republicans, believed that conditions for freed blacks were worse than they had been when they were enslaved. Though there were definitely upsides to freedom from slavery, many conditions blacks lived under either didn t change or got worse after the Compromise. For example, the removal of the military from the South allowed the southern government to pass laws limiting blacks rights, meaning the social, political and economic conditions after the compromise were similar to the ones they had lived with under slavery; the legalization of segregation made it more difficult for blacks to influence white perception of their race; and violence against blacks increased, and white protection of them decreased, as many saw them as less valuable once they had been released from slavery. The compromise ended the reconstruction, which meant that the military presence in the south, which had been virtually the only thing keeping a semblance of order, was removed. This resulted in widespread and often unpunished violence against blacks. It also left the southern government free to operate by itself, and measures were quickly taken to limit the rights of blacks. Education budgets were cut, sharecropping regulations were changed in order to favor plantation owners, and the right to vote was taken away from blacks. In The Canterbury Tales, Chaucer indirectly depicts the characters through the stories they tell. The tale is a window upon the person that tells it. And thus I preach against the very vice/ I make my living out of avarice (243). The Pardoner continues with his tale and condemns gluttony, drinking, gambling, and swearing, but then declares that he is guilty of each one. It is evident that the Pardoner is a hypocrite and that he has no intention of changing. The restrictions that are imposed on these animals while in captivity are unbearable living conditions that affect the animal both mentally and physically. The animals understand that this is not their home which leads to the breakdown of their psyche. One example of this comes from a zoo in the United Kingdom. In the year 1979, the Bristol Zoo gained a new animal which would become one of their biggest attractions. Misha the male polar bear caught the eye of the public with his unusual and odd behavior. Researchers that studied animal rights in the late twentieth century linked this behavior to Misha s enclosure at the zoo. Researchers came to the conclusion that the prison like living conditions that Misha encountered was the cause of his psychotic appearance. The public had described him as looking like a beast who was breaking down as a result of the captivity instead of an average polar bear in a zoo. The zoo was able to view Misha through surveillance during this entire process, similar to humans living in a prison or an asylum. According to the article by Andrew Flack, Following media attention from animal rights organizations and the media between 1985 and the early 1990s, Misha s psychotic appearance in a repeatedly evoked image of the prisons and asylums of the past, where surveillance, spectacle, and suffering collided to alter the natures of the beasts within ... Not only but also isn t as dangerous as most drugs that are legal in America for example legal drugs like tobacco, alcohol and even household items like glue and paint that are being taken advantage of and used as drugs. Next, by legalizing marijuana in the United States we can reduce the costs of keeping marijuana illegal by billions of dollars and use that tax money on other important things and have police officers focus on the serious offenders rather than some young adult with possession of a harmless drug (marijuana). Lastly, skeptics about the legalization of marijuana having no benefits at all but I supported my argument by saying that out of all the legal or illegal drugs, marijuana is the least addictive and harmful as proven in the fifth paragraph. Marijuana is one of the most used drugs in the United States and I believe that it will continue being one of the most used drugs until it s made legal and it becomes regulated and ... • 36. Great Depression Great Depression From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia {draw:frame} Dorothea Lange s Migrant Mother depicts destitute pea pickers in California, centering on Florence Owens Thompson, age 32, a mother of seven children, in Nipomo, California, March 1936. The Great Depression was a severe worldwide economic depression) in the decade preceding World War II. The timing of the Great Depressionvaried across nations, but in most countries it started in about 1929 and lasted until the late 1930s or early 1940s.[1] It was the longest, most widespread, and deepest depression of the 20th century, and is used in the 21st century as an example of how far the world s economy can decline.[2] The depression originated in the United States,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Recession cycles are thought to be a normal part of living in a world of inexact balances between supply and demand. What turns a usually mild and short recession or ordinary business cycle into an actual depression is a subject of debate and concern. Scholars have not agreed on the exact causes and their relative importance. The search for causes is closely connected to the question of how to avoid a future depression, and so the political and policy viewpoints of scholars are mixed into the analysis of historic events eight decades ago. The even larger question is whether it was largely a failure on the part of free markets or largely a failure on the part of government efforts to regulate interest rates, curtail widespread bank failures, and control the money supply. Those who believe in a large role for the state in the economy believe it was mostly a failure of the free markets and those who believe in free markets believe it was mostly a failure of government that compounded the problem. Current theories may be broadly classified into three main points of view. First there are the monetarists, who believe that the Great Depression started as an ordinary recession, but that significant policy mistakes by monetary authorities (especially the Federal Reserve), caused a shrinking of the money supply which greatly exacerbated the ... • 37. Bella Abzug Women Not all women are capable of doing most jobs, but the same applies to men, and it took far too long for this realization to flow across America. Not too long ago, it was even a struggle for women to be able to take on the secondary positions in the workplace or any work at all. In her book Bella!: Ms. Abzug Goes to Washington, Bella Abzug argued, the test of whether or not you can hold a job should not be in the arrangement of your chromosomes (80). Fortunately, in today s day and age it is uncommon for a womanto fail in a job search entirely because of her gender, but in the past that was the case. Society created an idea that females were not good enough to hold their own job, so the duty of providing for the family was left to their husbands. For years, the majority of society did not realize that every individual has their own strengths and weaknesses, and neither men nor women are automatically more qualified than the other. As Abzug was trying to emphasize, it should be genuine ability that determines who is... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Unfortunately, it has been proven through a multitude of research that the average female makes about 79% of the amount that their male counterpart would make. Even after achieving the victory of making jobs for women a norm, women still struggle with the male advantage. As Susan B. Anthony continued in Suffrage and the Working Woman, When she has attained ability to compete with them and to do just as well in every respect she is placed at work, if at all, on half pay (Anthony). Although some argue that the gender pay gap is nothing but a myth, the statistical facts show otherwise. While those in positions of power and privilege attempt to thrust this issue out of the picture, it remains a large problem that no woman should be unaware of. Unequal pay is a common issue for plenty of women for far too long, and must be ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 38. Canada s Drug Laws And Drugs Canada s drug regulations are covered by the Food and Drug Act and the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act. In relation to controlled and restricted drug products the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act establishes eight schedules of drugs and new penalties for the possession, trafficking, exportation and production of controlled substances as defined by the Governor in Council. Drugpolicy of Canada has traditionally favoured punishment of the smallest of offenders, but this convention was partially broken in 1996 with the passing of the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act.[1] Contents HistoryEdit Until 1908 the use of narcotics, opiates especially, in Canada was unregulated.[2] From the 1850s onwards, Chinese immigrants came to British Columbia in droves, establishing opium dens in their isolated communities. Canadian employers saw the Chinese immigrants as a source of cheap labour, and the government viewed opium consumption as another way to gain revenue, imposing a tax on opium factories in 1871. However, with the decline of the gold rush in the 1880s resentment towards the Chinese grew, as unemployed Canadians could not compete with cheap Chinese labour.[3] Additionally, Japanese immigration to Canada began to rise sharply, resulting in demonstrations against Asian labour. In 1907, there was a particularly large demonstration against Asian immigrants in Vancouver s Chinatown.[4] In response to the demonstrations, Deputy Minister of Labour Mackenzie King ... • 41. The Human Stain By Philip Roth The Human Stain Philip Roth Entry 1 Already I can tell that this book is more difficult than most other novels I have read. It seems as though Roth is in favor of using long sentences and complex vocabulary. I sometimes had to reread sentences a few times because there was difficult vocabulary I needed to look up and the sentences were long. I needed to read each sentence piece by piece to make sure I could understand what the author wanted to convey to the reader. Although the text seemed overwhelming when I read the first few pages; once I began reading sentences in increments I could more easily understand the text. I also thought that this would be the story of Coleman Silk being accused of racism from the short summary but it seems ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Now, further into the novel I can recognize the irony in the accusations against Coleman Silk. It has been made clear that Coleman Silk is only passing as a Jewish American. Coleman s secret is that he is a colored man hiding his identity. When Coleman went to college, a college for colored students, he faced racism from people all around him. Coleman hated being seen as inferior so he began living his life as a white man. It is terribly ironic that Coleman Silk became the type of person he hated most by an accident with the accusations of racism. Coleman could have made the racism accusations vanish by admitting who he really was but Coleman still chose to keep his secret. Entry 4 Coleman was described as a man who had worked hard to get to where he was before the spooks incident took away his career and wife. Then the reader learns that Coleman comes from a colored family and has been living his life as a white man since joining the U.S. Navy. I could understand why Coleman made that decision but when I learned that he had denounced his own mother and family I found Coleman to be completely despicable. Coleman s parents had worked to educate Coleman and his siblings well and Coleman was not even grateful for all they gave him. Coleman was so consumed with not being seen as inferior that he did not even hesitate to break his mother s heart. It was here in the novel that Coleman s narcissism, superior complex and ability ... • 42. Media Plan For Izze Sparkling Soda Instructor assignment #4: Media Plan for IZZE Sparkling Soda The media we chose to put an emphasis on is radio, Internet and cable television. The percentages for each are radio 40%, Internet 30% and cable television 30%. For radio we have strategically chosen to place our advertisements on the weekday morning drive time from 6am to 10am and on weekends from 7pm to midnight. The vehicles chosen for Internet are the websites iTunes, ESPN and iHeart Radio. For Cable Televisionservices we have chosen the vehicles Spike TV, Food Network and ION. There are numerous reasons why we decided to put the largest emphasis on radio. For one, our demographic is males 18 34 and according to the PowerPoint, we learned that males at that age are a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... According to the United Nations Report, 1.5 billion Internet users are male, while 1.3 billion are female. This statistic supports our decision for choosing this specific medium. In Media Mark, we searched both Other Regular Soft Drinks and Sparkling Water. We compared the two reports and selected the highest reach/index numbers. The vehicles we found specific to our target audience are iTunes, which has a reach of 35,600,000 and an index number of 135, ESPN with a reach of 36,455,000 and an index number of 111 and iHeart Radio, which had a reach of 12,771,000 and an index number of 117. Other websites that we considered but did not choose were Pandora (46,726,000/109) and NFL (17,898,000/110). From this research we were able to determine that our target had an interest in music and sports. This further supports our decision to place a larger emphasis on radio. From the PowerPoint, we learned that Cable Television is a highly persuasive medium because it offers sight, sound and motion. It also reaches a large audience and specifically captures the attention of our hard to reach target (males 18 34). We chose Cable Television over other mediums because it provides narrowcasting opportunities to focus in on specific targets. The vehicles that we chose within this medium are Spike TV with a reach of 35,794,000 and an index number of 120, Food Network with a reach of 56,594,000 and an ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
