Fashion of the Elizabethan Era
Fashion of the Elizabethan Era
The Elizabethan era was a time period centered around the life of Queen Elizabeth I s reign (1558
1603). This period in time is considered the peak of English history and is the beginning of when
people began to think and believe differently. That brought along changes in the way people dressed.
How people, particularly rich ones, dressed was just another way for them to express themselves.
Social classes are also very much prominent in the era. These social classes influenced the fashion of
the Elizabethan era. This is shown in men s and women s clothes, shoes, hats, and accessories in the
sixteenth and seventeenth centuries. (Whitmore, Deanne)
In the 1500 s men s clothing was generally black ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It prevented the good shoe from getting dirty. They were eventually banned in some places because
women could fall while walking in them. Women s hats in the 1500 s were, however, very different
than men s. (Head over heels 1500s)
The hats women wore in the era were very diverse. They would sometimes just be wraps, but other
times, they would be huge things sitting atop the head. One of the smaller head ornaments they would
wear was the curved French hood. It looked like a hood that was falling off of the back of someone s
head. Another smaller head covering was the gable hood. It was pentagon shaped, heavily starched
scarf worn on top of a woman s head. They would sometimes use wire framing inside the scarf which
was very decorative. One of the biggest hats women wore in the 16th century was the horned head
dress. This was a truly fantastic invention. It had two extensions, one to each side of the head,
extending out to each shoulder. Draping off the extensions was some sort of sheer material usually
decorated with jewels. For women accessories weren t very prominent in the beginning of the century
because Britain was still a member of the Catholic Church, which banned jewelry, but when the
country broke away from the church and the ban was lifted. Towards the end of the century, women
began to wear the occasional strand of pearls or a small necklace with gems in it.

Essay On Dual Federalism
Federalism is a division of power in a central government and their regional governments.
(Learners.org, Federalism US vs. The States). The first system of federalism is dual federalism. Dual
federalism is the state government has their own responsibilities and the national government has their
own responsibilities. Dual federalism was mainly based around the Tenth Amendment which states
that anything that isn t in the Constitution are reserved to the states. It is kind of like a tug of war, the
state governments are on one side and the federal government on the other. The rope is pulled back
and forth, and at one time one side sees to be winning, but then the rope gets pulled back to the other
side. In the dual federalism, each government ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the past, the Congress and the House have forced the state governments to meet in certain
enviromental standards. (Sparknotes Editors, Federalism, page 2)
In the early 1970s, the US knew that they needed a change in federalism so they called it new
federalism. New federalism gave the states some power while knowing that the federal government is
the highest power. At this time, the state government regained some power. Richard Nixon started to
support this type of federalism during his presidency, and every president since Nixon has continued
to support new federalism.(Sparknotes Editors,Federalism,page 1)
Examples of when the National Government has withheld funding to the States to making them
comply was in World War II when the people were relying on the federal money and when the
government was relying on the states to follow federal policies. ( Sparknotes Editors, Federalism, page
1). Another example is when the government gave out block grants to give money on a fairly good
purpose with no excuses. (Sparknotes Editors, Federalism, page

Pharyngeal Phase
Pharyngeal Phase Despite the fact that the pharyngeal phase of swallowing is the most complex, from
start to finish the entire phase takes less than one second. Sensory receptors at the back of the tongue
and anterior faucial pillars are stimulated by the sensation of the bolus, and trigger the pharyngeal
phase of swallowing. Additionally, the oropharynx detects and relays sensation information related to
the viscosity and consistency of the bolus, which then influences the physiology of the pharyngeal
swallow. Nevertheless, the swallow is also under volitional control, as one can be triggered without
stimulation to the posterior oral structures (Logemann 1997; Corbin Lewis, Liss, Sciortino, 2005).

During quiet breathing, the diaphragm contracts upon inhalation, causing the abdomen to depress and
the ribcage to expand. Due to the pleural connection between the ribcage and the lungs, the expansion
of the ribcage forces the lungs to expand as well. As the volume of the lungs increases, air rushes in
through diffusion. Upon exhalation, the diaphragm relaxes, causing the ribcage and lungs to recoil
without muscular assistance. Air rushes back out of the lungs, exiting through the mouth and nose.
Forced breathing (such as during exercise) and speech breathing require greater muscle involvement
for both the inhalation and exhalation portions of the respiratory cycle. Speech breathing involves
rapid, forceful inspirations, and proportionally less time is spent inhaling than spent exhaling (Owens,
Metz, Farinella, 2011). The muscles of forced inhalation (see Appendix B) assist by increasing the size
of the thoracic cavity, allowing more air to enter the lungs. In addition, the muscles of forced
inhalation contribute to the checking action that maintains support of the ribcage, preventing collapse
(Taylor, 1960). The muscles of forced exhalation (see Appendix B) force the diaphragm upward,
compressing the ribs, and thereby allowing the speaker to control the flow of air necessary for

How Did Bob Marley Impact The World
If someone was asked to name the first famous reggae artist that came to mind, the majority of people
would say one name, Bob Marley. Robert Nesta Marley, commonly known as Bob Marley, is
undoubtedly the most famous reggae artist of all time. Additionally, he is responsible for bringing
reggae to the masses, and he did this through his unique style, raspy voice, guitar playing and
drumming. Bob Marley is known around the world for not only his music, but also his greater
message of peace. Furthermore, Marley became a cultural icon, as he encouraged others to rebel
against racism and violence in the world. Although Marley is known for spreading positive messages

Early Life and Career Marley was born on the North side of Jamaica to a white Naval Officer Norval
Marley and his mother Cedella Marley. When Bob Marley was young, his father Norval dropped him
off at a elderly couples home in Kingston Jamaica, it was that last time Marley would see his father as
he never returned. Moreover, Marley spent roughly a year and a half in Kingston which would prove
to have a lasting impact on his life. While in Kingston, Marley was drawn to the vast musical culture
and immersed himself within it. Furthermore, he experimented with instruments and reggae music in
general. In his youth, those around Marley knew he was special as they believed he had magical
powers and that he could tell fortunes. He was constantly asked to read palms, but after his stint in
Kingston Marley changed. When people would ask Marley to read their palms he would respond by
explaining to them that those days are over and that he is now a musician. (Dorsey, 1998). At age
eleven Bob befriended a long time companion in Bunny Wailer. Their friendship blossomed just as
fast as their love of music, they soon moved to Kingston together to try and start their musical career.
In 1963 Marley met Joe Higgs, a man who gave him music lessons and had a large influence on
Marley and his future music career. Additionally, Higgs introduced Marley and Bunny to their future
band mates and they came up with the name The Wailers . Once the

The Last Message From Earth
THE LAST MESSAGE FROM EARTH is a sci fi thriller that features a compelling plot with a strong
moral dilemma. The script merits consider, but there are still areas that would benefit from more
development.
First, the goal is clear and the stakes are high. The opening sequence is strong with the disappearance
of young Danny. Immediately the audience is emotionally invested in the outcome.
The script does a good job of establishing the goal for the parents. The structure works well. The
opening establishes the ordinary life of Amelia and John Hart. It s clear they are scientists or
engineers. There s a solid inciting event that immediately pulls the audience into the story with the
disappearance of Danny.
The second act is propelled ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Even in a short, there could be an added scene that shows Amelia re building the machine, as well as
showing her physical and emotional struggle with building it. Perhaps a montage could highlight the
stages of the progress, as well as showing Amelia sleeping with the Teddy Bear until she completes
the machine. One might have her try it and it doesn t work. This would elevate the struggle and
anticipation. Then she figures it out. However, it s not entirely clear how she would be able to recreate
the exact same spot where Danny is.
The teddy bear is a nice plant and symbolic of the parents inner conflict. It s a nice visual reminder of
Danny. The use of the teddy bear also provides for a clever payoff when Amelia find finds the thumb
drive. However, one small note about the Teddy Bear. It might be more emotionally engaging if the
Teddy Bear is given to Danny when he s born vs. first seeing the teddy bear when he disappears.
What s not clear is the motivation for Agent Roger to help the parents. Consider showing his struggle
with his decision, or maybe he pulls out a picture of his own son. The audience will understand his
moral dilemma. They will understand he s thinking about what he would do if it were his son.
Rogers helps, but reports them missing. One assumes he s trying to cover his tracks by reporting them
gone, but hoping they already escaped. However, it s not entirely clear. Or perhaps he thought they
would escape through the side exits. Try to

Objective : Preparation of pure diphenyl via crystallization of crude diphenyl dissolved in ethanol.
Structural Formula of Organic Substances Involved :
Diphenyl Ethanol
Apparatus : Round bottom flask (100 mL), measuring cylinder (50 mL), conical flask (50 mL), filter

The condenser also functions to maintain the temperature throughout the heating process and thereby
maximizing the accuracy of the experimental results. The addition of boiling chips in the heating
process to dissolve the diphenyl serves to minimize the possibility of the occurrence of bumping, i.e.
sudden explosive boiling whereby large bubbles erupt from the heated solution. Instead, a steady
stream of small air bubbles is produced with the addition of the chips.
Subsequently after complete dissolving of the crude diphenyl, an additional 15 mL of ethanol is added
to ensure that all the crude diphenyl is dissolved. A small amount of decolourising charcoal is added to
the solution mixture. The decolourising charcoal serves to remove any impurities in the mixture, by
adsorbing substances responsible for colouration of the solution on its surface via its activated
properties. A small amount is used as the desired product may be adsorbed as well if a large amount is
used instead.
The mixture is filtered via a preheated stemless glass funnel immediately after boiling for 10 15
minutes. This is to prevent any early crystallization of the mixture since its crystallization temperature
is quite low. The use of preheated apparatus for filtration is also to minimize premature crystallization
of the mixture. Filtration of the mixture while it is still hot is to

What Led to the Decline of Indentured Servitude and the...
The decline of indentured servitude and the rise of chattel slavery were caused by economic factors of
the English settlers in the late 17th century. Colonists continually tried to allure laborers to the colony.
The head right system was to give the indentured servant a method of becoming independent after a
number of years of service. Colonists chiefly relied on Indentured Servitude, in order to facilitate their
need for labor. The decreasing population combined with a need for a labor force, led colonists to
believe that African slaves were the most efficient way to acquire a labor force that would satisfy their
needs.
Before the 1680 s, indentured servitude was the primary source of labor in the newly developed
colonies. There ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

The process of gathering this information was quiet difficult and that s why we decided to take an
alternative route in determining this numbers. First of we got the total population of the U.S. from the
Census and then the percentage of people having smartphones for given years in which from that point
we got the total population of Florida and the total percentage of the market age group that was
specified . In which we than got the total from both calculations and divided them and that s how we
got the number of sales for smartphones. In the process of calculating the sales of iPads we got the
number of iPads sold for given years in the U.S. in which we then multiplied that number by the
percent of Florida market share. We finally got the total sales from Net pads form a websites that
estimated that they sale approximately 600 of their products each year. When we final got all the total
calculations for each individual device we than added them up and that was our number for the market
share for high tech devices in Florida. The next step was to get the total number of high tech devices
and multiply it by two for the given factor that we also have the exterior market (potential customers
outside Florida).
Finally we got all our number and determine the slope, and the intercept in order to find out the
forecast for the next

Essential Care Needs in Nursing and Midwifery
Essential care needs present specific requirements for an individual s survival. The Nursing and
Midwifery Council (2010), suggest nurses should be able to consider patient s essential care needs and
aid them with these needs when patients are not able to help themselves. Allowing nurses to make the
patient feel comfortable, during periods when they may be undergoing distress or discomfort. Nurses
have to deliver essential care such as making sure patients are eating sufficient amounts of food,
keeping hydrated and assisting with hygiene needs. Arnett (2013) emphasises care needs are unique to
each individual and vital for preserving patients health and well being. This links into Roper Logan
Tierney (1999) model of activities of daily living identifying 16 activities essential to maintaining
human life, including: eating and mobilising. Fulfilment and maintenance of these 16 activities
indicate an individual is healthy and gives a focus for nurses to deliver targeted patient centred care.
This is emphasised in Essence of Care (Department of Health, 2010) which reaffirms meeting
essential needs of patients is the main focus point of nursing in contemporary practice. The Essence of
Care is made up of 12 categories which health care professionals focus on in order to provide
thorough patient centred care. These categories include: bladder, bowel, continence care and personal
hygiene. Kitson et al (2013) identified the nurse s role as being one of promoting good patient

Perks Of Being A Wallflower Psychological Analysis
Abstract Perks of Being a Wallflower is a film about a 15 year old teenager boy, Charlie, who deals
with his first love, flashbacks of his Aunt and his own mental illness. Psychological background of
Charlie gives shape to his current behavior. Actors made the film realistic. When Charlie had mental
breakdown, Logan Lerman embraced its character wholeheartedly. However, the film is messy as the
directors put together many psychological problems in one scene making it difficult to figure out the
psychological patterns. It would have been better if the writers organized some of the scenes more
carefully. On the other hand, the film is still the best among other psychological films based on
teenagers. Introduction The purpose of the report is to arrive at some hypothesis about the main
character Charlie, his behavior, personality and capabilities after doing some psychological research as
the film was mainly based on him. Our major aim of this report is to understand how theories and
concepts are applied to the main character Charlie in the film. The film focuses on the problems and
diseases that teenagers face and they are unaware of it. For example, Charlie was suffering from

The Bluest Eyes By Toni Morrison
Society s perception of women is based on certain characteristics; Toni Morrison demonstrates this
through her characters. Claudia, the youngest character, represents innocence that is conflicted
between her own sensible judgment and what is expected of her. Pauline internalizes expectations, and
lives accordingly, but lacks self identity. Having no sense of self she finds herself seeking validation
from those who should not affect her. The Bluest Eyes by Toni Morrison focuses on the hardships that
women of color face when seeking acceptance from society. She depicts how detrimental it is to
believe that a woman s self worth is determined by society s unrealistic standards of beauty and
femininity. It is said that beauty is in the eyes of the beholder, but in reality there seems to be only one
standard to beauty. Although it was never stated in the novel that light skin was the epitome of beauty,
it was very much imposed upon the female characters. When Claudia receives a fair skinned doll she
is perplexed by how the women around her respond to it. The loving gift was always a blue eyes baby
doll. I knew that the doll represented what they thought was my fondest wish they force the doll upon
her, and in a larger sense it represents the passing of the torch. Claudia doesn t understand the women
s fascination with the doll, and feels inferior to it because she knows no one has ever stared at her in
that manner. Her confusion turns into rage as she tears apart the doll

The Influence Of Architecture In Ancient Greece
One geographical factor that impacted Rome was agriculture. The soil on the Italian Peninsula was
rich because of the volcanic ash. The soil and the mild climate helped the Romans grow surplus olives
and grain. (Robinson, N, n.d.) For example, having a reliable food production allowed the population
to grow, and trading in olives helped the Romans economy to expand even more. Without agriculture,
Rome might have slipped into insignificance without leaving its footprint in history. (Robinson, N,
n.d.) One geographical factor that impacted Greece was mountains and the seas. The mountains
worked as barriers to separate their different locations creating regionalism, which meant different

n.d.) A unique cultural characteristic in Greece was religion and the arts. Religion was personal, direct,
and present in all areas of life. (Cartwright, M, 2013) The ancient Greeks were very religious people.
They worshipped many gods and believed they appeared in human form with superhuman strength

Athene, Apollo, Poseidon, Hermes, Hera, Aphrodite, Demeter, Ares, Artemis, Hades, hephaistos, and
Dionysos. (Cartwright, M, 2013) Gods became in charge of specific cities. For example, Aphrodite
was in charge of the city called Corinth and Helios was in charge of the city Rhodes. (Cartwright, M,

By adopting elements of UCC, the Onling gaming community web portal can provide all the
information that users need, without forcing them to research external information sites, therefore
becoming far more self serving and robust. Web Portal Design Web portals in the past were seen
primarily as gateways as was stated earlier, thereby limiting the creative control administrators could
have over the design of the web site. Due to the shift in functionality of web portals however, as well
as the added value of UCC, it has become increasingly challenging to design web sites where users
can find exactly what they are looking for (Fang, et al, 2004). Prominent gaming portals IGN (Fox

History Of The Byrds
BYRDS
Introduction
These Byrds don t fly, but they still have the skills. Many of the band members had a decent amount
of trouble to form the band and to create songs, but the big trouble they had was all of the drug abuse
in their lives. Even with all the drug abuse, they still had fun while creating songs and albums (Shirley,

Career
When they first started they had a huge amount of people started liking them, and then they started
getting hits and before they knew it, they got accepted in the folk rock hall of fame. When they got
into the hall of fame they made a song about it, but as soon as they did, they got rid of it because they
thought is was bragging to much (Shirley, 1997).
Famous
Before the Byrds signed to the one off contract, the Ex folkies caught up with the beatles craze. Even

What is the disease that can affect 23 million people and kill 800 people in the span of a winter with in
the United States alone? (CDC, 2105) This same illness has around 3,000 people admitted into british
hospitals yearly. (CDC, 2105) Norwalk virus, also called Norovirus after the renaming in 2002, is the
most common stomach bug but is still very dangerous. This virus has killed more than 200,000
children in developing countries and affects so many people within one winter, which is why the
Norwalk virus is called the Winter Vomiting Illness. (food safety, 2105) The Norwalk virus is very
preventable, but can do damage.
History
To understand what Norwalk is you have to look at it s history. Norwalk has been around for hundreds
if not thousands of years and is almost impossible to track where the illness had originally came from.
Norwalk was first accurately recorded in the outbreak of Norwalk, Ohio 1968,

Current Diagnostic Criteria For Angela s Manic Episode
Current diagnostic criteria for Angela s manic episode is described through criterion A D in the
following. Criteria A requires the individual to meet at least a one week period of distinct abnormal
and persistently elevated, expansive, or irritable mood and abnormal and persistently increased goal
directed activity or energy. Angela has currently been experiencing this particular episode for ten day
now and has demonstrated symptoms of increased activity for example the West Coast fight that the
booked and the amount of money she has put into textbooks. Criteria B requires that during this time
Angela must be experiencing at least three of the listed symptoms that represent a significant degree
of noticeable change from her usual ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Angela meets this particular requirement because of the delusions and hallucinations features and her
current need to be hospitalized because of the threat she is hearing from the voices to herself and the
verbal threats she is currently making to the counselor about placing a hit on him. Criteria D notes that
the physiological effects of the episode must not be attributed from substance use. According to the
narrative, Angela does have history of alcohol use and marijuana use but the narrative adds that her
current behaviors do not seem to be related to the episode. Additional v/z codes include topics that I
would want to bring up in counseling. For the code relating to Angela s personal history of self harm, I
feel as if this would be one of the primary topics that I would like to incorporate due to her tendencies
to make suicidal gestures with pills. I would like to explore more into her coping mechanisms and
ensure safety nets for future self harming thoughts and/or behaviors. I have also included the code
relating to Angela s psychosocial circumstances because I believe she is experiencing a clinically
significant discord with her parents and much of her delusions are focused on her irrational beliefs of
what her parents truly want for her for example, Angela believes that her parents only want to
hospitalize her for the disability

2014 General Social Survey
My research hypothesis for this study is, if someone has a higher total family income, then they will
be less likely to believe that the government should do more to help improve the standard of living
rather than individuals should help themselves. The independent variable that I will be identifying and
researching will be total family income which is coded as INCOME06 in the General Social Survey
codebook. The dependent variable that I will analyze and discuss is coded as HELPPOOR in the 2014
General Social Survey codebook and labeled with the question, should the government do more to
improve standard of living? On the other hand, the null hypothesis for this study is that there is no
support between the relationship of total family income ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As you can see in Table 1, the independent variable, total family income, had a total of 224 missing
responses. Table 3 shows our dependent variable, should the government improve standard of living,
unfortunately there was a large number of missing data which is totaled to 900 respondents. Lastly, the
control variable, age, in Table 5, shows that there were only 9 missing responses for this variable. A
missing response could mean that an individual refused to answer, did not know, or are inapplicable
(IAP). As the dependent variable showed a large number of missing data, almost all of that missing
data was IAP. The three variables each have their on unique aspect to them, but they are rather straight
forward. Age and total family income are very concrete and definite answers given by a respondent, as
the questions are straightforward. Should the government improve standard of living, on the other
hand, is a little different. This variable, HELPPOOR, is based on attitude and must be though about a
little more than the others. HELPPOOR is set up as a Likert scale. Using this scale, you determine

Effect of caffeine, nicotine, alcohol, epinephrine on Daphnia
03 31 2006
RESULTS:
In this experiment the effect of different hormones on heart rate of _Daphnia_ was examined. It was
investigated which substances act as stimulants and which substances act as depressant. Initially,
_Daphnia_ was placed on depression slide under the microscope and the average heart rate was
determined. Subsequently, _Daphnia_ was treated with different type of hormone and the effect on
Daphnia heart rate was observed. It was investigated which substances act as stimulants and which
substances act as depressant. Daphnia was treated with aged water, caffeine, ethyl alcohol, nicotine,
and epinephrine, and their effect on heart rate of Daphnia was observed. The results are posted on
table 1:

Heart rate of daphnia fell from an average of 274.455+/ 26 beats per minutes to an average 246.868+/
71 heart beats per minute. After performing Mann Whitney U statistical test, this difference in heart
rate was found to be statistically not significant.
In last procedure, the effect of epinephrine on Daphnia heart rate was observed. The result is posted on
figure 5:
Figure 5: Effect of Epinephrine on average heart rate of Daphnia
From figure 5 it can be seen that before the addition of epinephrine, Daphnia had an average heart rate
of 277.663+/ 18 heart beats per minutes. However, when epinephrine was added, the average heart
rate was decreased to 291.467+/ 57 heart beats per minute. However, after performing Mann Whitney
U test, it was found that after the addition of epinephrine, no significant difference was observed in
Daphnia s heart beats.
Mann Whitney U statistical testing was performed to see if the result obtained for the difference in
heart rate of Daphnia before and after the addition of stimulant was significant. The statistical test for
the difference in heart rate of daphnia observed after the addition of aged water is shown on table 2:

Esterification Of 3-Methylbutyl Ethanoate Lab Report
Esterification of 3 MethylButyl Ethanoate Results Distillation range: 97 102°C Ester has a fruity odor,
smells very much like banana. Discussion Results table: Observations Process Observations Reflux
When adding 3 methyl 1 butanol, sulphuric acid and ethanoic acid heat were produced by the
colourless mixture, which pertained a smell of sulphuric acid. Once heating began, the solution
quickly changed to orange and continued to rapidly change to a darker colour. After approximately six
minutes, it began to bubble and the colour was now a dark red colour, very similar to the shade of a
cherry. At this point, the liquid began to vaporise, rising up to the condenser about a third way before
it was condensed to a liquid which ran back down the condenser to the pear shaped flask. The strong
smell of the sulphuric smell began to fade, the smell it was replaced with still smelt strong and bad but
to a less extent. The mixture remained a dark red colour for the remaining duration of the reflux
process, continually bubbling. Separation/Purification The initial substance was a dark red colour,
similar to the colour of a cherry. When added to approximately 20mL of water, the mixture changed to
a yellow colour, forming an insoluble layer. The bottom layer, which was soluble was predominately
clear but pertained the original colour of the mixture at the bottom. There was a clear distinction
between the two layers. When the Sodium Carbonate was added to the organic mixture, it appeared

Swift s ‘Gulliver s Travel’ and Voltaire s ‘Candide’ Essay
Swift s Gulliver s Travel and Voltaire s Candide
Swift s Gulliver s Travel and Voltaire s Candide are typical literature works during the Enlightenment
period. Both authors use satire in their works. Satire is literary form which means irony. Therefore,
they have some similarities. They both want to expose human vices through satiric tone. Due to
different personal styles, there are many differences between two novels.
Two novels use satire to criticize human weakness. In Gulliver s Travel , Swift makes up a horse
society Houyhnhnm and a brutal animal Yahoo. Gulliver has to admit that human beings are yahoos

status of yahoo is under a depressed atmosphere. When Gulliver backs home, he is still struggling to

Swift s sharp criticism makes the novel isn t as fun as Candide . However, it makes reader think over
the purpose of his criticism.
On the contrary, Voltaire s Candide is full of black humor. Although Candide goes through a lot of
ridiculous circumstances and suffers a lot, the unexpected content makes his voyage funny. In Gulliver
Travel , the observation of horse society and comparison between yahoo and human are important
components of Swift s satire. In Candide , every character expresses the satiric tone of Voltaire.
Pangloss, teacher of Candide, always believe that Everything is for the best in this best of all possible

Introduction: If there is a high amount of hydrochloric acid in the stomach, and an antacid is
consumed, the antacid will absorb excess acid in the stomach. This reduction of hydrochloric acid is
absorbed by antacids that neutralize stomach acid (Vodopich). The purpose of this experiment is to
determine how commercial antacids perform in absorbing acids. The hypothesis is that the antacid in
Tums will reduce the amount of hydrochloric acid inside the stomach.
Methods: For this experiment, the independent variable is the commercial antacid and the dependent

Who Is The Parson In The Canterbury Tales
The Parson of Chaucer s Canterbury Tales In Chaucer s Canterbury Tales, the author reveals the true
motives of the Parson, a man overcome with godly love. Though Chaucer usually makes even the
most evil of souls seem decent, he makes certain there is no other way to describe this person except
as lawful and honest. The Parson sets a good Christian example in his character as a whole. Initially,
Chaucer describes the Parson as a holy minded man of good renown (487), a statement that may bring
to mind other characters who seem good, but are truly evil at their core. Though this may seem a
likely case in the first few lines of the Parson s introduction, instead he is found to be a man who lacks
money, but makes up for it in his godliness (489). He is lowly of service and instead of moving to
London to make an easier living (517), the Parson prefers to remain in his village and watch over his
fold (520) because he views the townspeople as his sheep and himself as the shepherd. ... Show more

Detrimental Effects of Beauty Pageants
There is an ongoing debate on the detrimental effects that beauty pageants can have on their
contestants. Judged solely on physical beauty, beauty pageants have been around for quite some time.
The first pageant, the Miss America pageant, was held in 1921. Miss Universe and Miss USA soon
followed, and by the 1960 s beauty pageants were part of American culture. Viewed as a positive and
potentially rewarding competition, pageants have now recently had a drastic turn of view. Advocates
of beauty pageants put forth that beauty contests develop self esteem and confidence (Ending the
Hypersexualization of Girls). However, beauty pageants can be a highly destructive concept that can
put too much pressure on its contestants to look perfect, put parents in a financial crisis, and quite
frankly, be simply unhealthy. As well as participation in beauty pageants, there is a rage of them on
television as well. Television images and broadcasts have had a huge impact on it s participants and
the type of messages they internalize about what is normal . (Could Child Beauty Pageants Be Banned
in the USA?). Children, as well as teens, view what they see on television as what they must become.
Beauty pageants are very undermining to the participants emotional health, the pressure to look
perfect, and it s countless negative effects they possess. The long standing opinion in the
psychological community about beauty pageants is that they are not in the best interest of the
participant

Analysis Of Le Guin Rhetorical Devices
Analysis of Rhetorical Devices Not only does Le Guin apply rhetorical appeals in her speech, but she
also incorporates a multitude of rhetorical devices, such as sententia and antithesis. Le Guin utilizes
sententia when she states, Because you are human beings you are going to meet failure (Le Guin line
30). Le Guin attempts to tear down separation by gender and bring people together on common
ground by concluding that males and females are both bound to face failure because everyone is
simply human. To this end, she aims to halt comparison between genders as well as the notion that
women are always secondary to men. In effect, Le Guin follows up with the rhetorical device
antithesis to build upon her use of sententia. Le Guin uses antithesis in this section to help her
emphasize the point: You will find you re weak where you thought yourself strong (Le Guin lines 31
32). Her illustration of antithesis further exemplifies the notion that gender does not matter when it
comes to the struggles and failures of life, which all humans, regardless of gender, indisputably face.
Le Guin ultimately deploys the rhetorical devices sententia and antithesis in unison to end contrast and
conflict between genders and unite men and women alike. In addition to sententia and antithesis, Le
Guin also employs parallelism and allusion in her speech. First, Le Guin exhibits parallelism in
multiple places throughout her speech. Her most effective demonstration of

The Social Aspect And Environment
The social aspect and environment is one of the biggest reasons why people do what they do. Their
interactions with others have contribute to their motives, drives and even thoughts, as if one person
can help mold another into who they are. In a society, there are different communities made up of
people of different races, religion and gender. In each of these communities, different morals and
values are emphasized which affects everyone in the community and influences them as a whole. The
closer the community, the more influences they have on each other whether they are good or bad.
Respected scholars Clifford Shaw and Henry D. McKay began researching the juvenile courts records
and they realized high rate of crimes weren t just based on a certain type of individual but where the
individual lived and the structure of the neighborhood and how they were connected to the community
which is called social disorganization. Social disorganization relies on many factors including
residential instability and poverty.
Social Disorganization beings with Robert Park and Ernest Burgess s Concentric Zone Model Theory,
it shows the five different zone: Central Business District, Zone in Transition (highest crime), Zone of
Workingmen s Homes, Residential Zone and Commuter Zone ( Professor Burgess theorizes that urban
areas grew from the inner core (Business District) towards outer areas (Commuters Zone). Zone 2 is
the highest level of crime where there is residential instability,

Effective Instructional Strategies to Ensure Fifth Grade Mathematics Readiness

The purpose of this literature review is an exploration into effective instructional strategies to ensure
fifth grade mathematics readiness. This two part study investigates what teachers consider to be key
elements in instructional design and implementation to support mathematics curriculum across the
elementary grade levels. It will also investigate specific mathematics skills that teachers believe
should be taught and reinforced each year from kindergarten through fifth grade.

Unless a learner enters a grade with a full proficiency of the skills learned in prior years, that learner
must be retaught or face the very real risk of falling even further behind.
While reteaching is seen in a negative context, one in which students need remedial instruction to help
them become proficient in heir current grade level skills, it is also seen as an effective instructional
tool in the mathematics classroom. Incorporating curriculum review in daily instruction assists
educators in finding deficiencies in foundational mathematics skills and addressing those needs in a
timely manner.
Early Numeracy in the Lower Elementary Grades Standardized testing has become a controversial
topic. Contrasting opinions either support or oppose the use of standardized testing to truly measure a
learner s proficiency. These tests base their content on what a learner should know by their respective
school year. When a learner reaches the end of the fifth grade year, but is performing below average
on their state s standardized test, one cannot help but wonder where the breakdown has occurred. The
natural response is to want to locate the disconnect in a student s learning pattern and correct this for
future students. By beginning early numeracy skills in early elementary grades, specifically
kindergarten and first grade, students are beginning the scaffolding they need to successfully transition
to subsequent grade levels. Using student centered instructional

What Is The Argumentative Essay On The Lord Of The Flies
Lord of the Flies Research Paper
Wartime frequently brings out the worst in people, with its capacity for damaging mental and physical
health, quality of life, and families. In William Golding s Lord of the Flies, the subject of war is
ironically shown through the experiences of children. In particular, when children are unexpectedly
exposed to war, they are emotionally damaged later in life and become accustomed to acts of violence.
The children s exposure to war enables violent behavior. William Golding also has full power over
how the characters in his book are perceived and behave, and his experience in the military in WWII
is reasoning behind the plot and character behavior. In William Golding s Lord of the Flies, both the
author s and the children s exposure to World War II works to fuel the violent actions on the island.
William Golding has extensive experience as a general in World War II, and his perception of the war
influences his novel. In Golding s words, When I was young before the war, before the War, I did have
some airy fairy views about man... but I went through the war and that changed me (Golding 11).
Golding explains that his views about the behavior of men changed when he went through World War
II. The author s previous experiences correlate with the actions of the children and plot during this
time period. In Violence in William Golding s Lord of the Flies , Dedria Bryfonski states, Golding
found his voice and theme in the horrific experiences of

The Cultural Impact Of Electricity And The World We Live
In today s world nothing is more important than the gadgets we use on a every day to day basis. What
we take for granted sometimes is the thing we use most and most importantly we use to charge
everything most of the time is some type of electricity. I hope to provide a clear and concise paper that
details and gives the cultural impact of electricity and the world we live. This paper will hit on three
topics reconstruction to the beginning of where man first began to harness electricity, how man used
this electricity to change the course of history as we know it, and the positives as well as the negatives
of electricity and the world we live in.
Electricity is a form of energy involving the flow of electrons. All matter is made up of atoms, and an
atom has a center, called a nucleus. The nucleus contains positively charged particles called protons
and uncharged particles called neutrons (Joseph, 2002)The nucleus of an atom is surrounded by
negatively charged particles called electrons. The negative charge of an electron is equal to the
positive charge of a proton, and the number of electrons in an atom is usually equal to the number of
protons (Joseph, 2002).When the balancing force between protons and electrons is upset by an outside
force, an atom may gain or lose an electron. When electrons are lost from an atom, the free movement
of these electrons constitutes an electric current (Joseph, 2002). To understand electricity one must
know that it is not an invention but a

Delivery of low molecular drugs using chitosan and its derivatives
1. Introduction
The primary focus of this term paper consists of two parts. First, review chitosan based drug delivery
system for the delivery of traditional low molecular weight drugs based on a review paper titled
targeted delivery of low molecular drugs using chitosan and its derivatives (Advanced Drug delivery
reviews, 2010). Second, critique an original research paper about hydrotropic oligomer conjugated
glycol chitosan as a carrier for tumor targeted paclitaxel delivery, which was published in Journal of
Controlled Release in 2013 (title: Enhanced drug loading and therapeutic efficacy of hydrotropic
oligomer conjugated glycol chitosan nanoparticles for tumor targeted paclitaxel delivery).
Chitosan, a linear aminopolysaccharide composed of randomly distributed (1→4) linked D
glucosamine and N acetyl D glucosamine units, is obtained by the deacetylation of chitin, a structural
element in the exoskeleton of crustaceans, which is the second most abundant natural biopolymer after
cellulose (Fig. 1). The most easily exploited sources of chitin are the protective shells of crabs and
shrimp. The primary aliphatic amines of chitosan can be protonated under acidic conditions (amine
pKa is 6.3). Fig 1. Chemical structure of chitosan

Unemployment Is A Key Macroeconomic Indicator
Unemployment is a simple term in itself but the concept is not as clear cut as it may suggest.
Unemployment is a key macroeconomic indicator used by policymakers to determine the economy s
performance relative to it s productive potential (OECD, 2014). However, for it to be a reliable
indicator there must be a commonly accepted definition to allow for comparison. The United
Kingdom follows the internationally agreed definition of unemployment set by the International
Labour Office (hereinafter: ILO) as Anybody who is without work, available for work and seeking
work. This includes those who have actively sought work in the last 4 weeks, available to start work in
the next 2 weeks, or is waiting to start work in the next 2 weeks (Geneva 1982, Cited by International
Labour Office). The Labour Force Survey (hereinafter: LFS) is a sample survey covering a three
month period that is consistent with the ILO definition, this allows for cross country comparisons. It is
a direct assessment of unemployment is used to establish those that are employed, unemployed or
economically inactive. Another means of unemployment measurement is the Claimant Count, it s a by
product of administrational data collected by records of those on job seekers allowance. For the sake
of this essay I will not be focusing on the Claimant count due to it underestimating unemployment
figures as seen in below in Figure 1. Figure 1: Quarterly changes in Unemployment and the Claimant

The Demonstration Of Leadership By Craig Johnson Essay
Demonstration of Leadership Craig Johnson wrote an article in November 2008 to evaluate the most
controversial tenure of Carly Fiorina, the former Chief Executive Officer of Hewlett Packard (HP),
using the ethical leadership construct. In the article, Johnson generates several questions that relate to
leadership and management practices. The evaluation of HP s former Chief Executive Officer is
influenced by the fact that the company experienced a decline in productivity within a short period
after the CEO entered the organization. Actually, Fiorina entered a largely successful firm and
introduced significant changes within a short time duration, which had considerable impacts on the
firm s operations. The dramatic changes that were introduced within a short time culminated in the
decline of the value of the company s stock within five years and the eventual unceremonious removal
of the CEO. This paper provides a response to the article through examining how it demonstrates
leadership.
Analysis and Discussion As previously mentioned, the article by Craig Johnson examines the rise and
fall of Carly Fiorina, HP s former Chief Executive Officer who was unceremoniously removed
following the tremendous impact that her dramatic changes had on the firm s productivity and success.
At the turn of the millennium, Carleton Fiorina was the most powerful businesswoman in the United
States who rose quickly through the ranks at AT T and Lucent Technologies (Johnson, 2008, p.188).

Cardiovascular Regulation Of Plasma Volume
In order to study the kidney s regulation of plasma volume, osmolality, and pH, the changes in urine
flow rate, specific density, and urine pH of adult human subjects were measured. Subjects were
assigned one of four beverage options: water, Gatorade, Coke, or nothing. Beverages of different
compositions were used to study what effects does fluid intake have on urine volume and
composition. Subjects fasted five hours prior to the experiment, in which the subjects were required to
void and test their own urine every thirty minutes for 120 minutes after ingesting the beverage they
were assigned. The urine volume, specific gravity, and urine pH were measured for each void. The
subjects were instructed to fast five hours prior to the experiment and were allowed to drink only eight
ounces of water if necessary (Manuguid et al., 2015). Avoiding food or drink rendered the subjects in a
similar physiological state at the start of the experiment. This is important because the consumption of
food or drink shortly before the experiment may affect the volume and composition of the urine
voided, which would have affected the results. If a subject had ingested a considerable amount of fluid
an hour before the experiment, their urine volume for their first void could have been greater than
expected. The amount of liquid the subjects ingested depended on their body weight. As a result, the
amounts of liquid ingested varied within the drinking groups. At T0, the subjects were in a state of

Pros And Cons Of The Poliovirus And Vaccine
Hi Antoinette, great post with a lot of detailed information. During my research of the poliovirus and
vaccine, I was in complete shock. As we know the food and drug administration (FDA) regulates and
approves our vaccines for public use. In 1955 the FDA approved and provided licensure for the polio
vaccine for public use within two hours (Gale, Null, 2015). This was the fastest vaccine approved by
the FDA ever. Although this resulted in a nightmare and many children and adults were affected with
many different forms of paralysis and some even lost their life as a result, there was still some good
that came from the poliovirus vaccine.
In 2016 the FDA gave breakthrough status and approval, which will allow hundreds of patients to be

  • 2. Fashion of the Elizabethan Era Fashion of the Elizabethan Era The Elizabethan era was a time period centered around the life of Queen Elizabeth I s reign (1558 1603). This period in time is considered the peak of English history and is the beginning of when people began to think and believe differently. That brought along changes in the way people dressed. How people, particularly rich ones, dressed was just another way for them to express themselves. Social classes are also very much prominent in the era. These social classes influenced the fashion of the Elizabethan era. This is shown in men s and women s clothes, shoes, hats, and accessories in the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries. (Whitmore, Deanne) In the 1500 s men s clothing was generally black ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It prevented the good shoe from getting dirty. They were eventually banned in some places because women could fall while walking in them. Women s hats in the 1500 s were, however, very different than men s. (Head over heels 1500s) The hats women wore in the era were very diverse. They would sometimes just be wraps, but other times, they would be huge things sitting atop the head. One of the smaller head ornaments they would wear was the curved French hood. It looked like a hood that was falling off of the back of someone s head. Another smaller head covering was the gable hood. It was pentagon shaped, heavily starched scarf worn on top of a woman s head. They would sometimes use wire framing inside the scarf which was very decorative. One of the biggest hats women wore in the 16th century was the horned head dress. This was a truly fantastic invention. It had two extensions, one to each side of the head, extending out to each shoulder. Draping off the extensions was some sort of sheer material usually decorated with jewels. For women accessories weren t very prominent in the beginning of the century because Britain was still a member of the Catholic Church, which banned jewelry, but when the country broke away from the church and the ban was lifted. Towards the end of the century, women began to wear the occasional strand of pearls or a small necklace with gems in it. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Essay On Dual Federalism Federalism is a division of power in a central government and their regional governments. (Learners.org, Federalism US vs. The States). The first system of federalism is dual federalism. Dual federalism is the state government has their own responsibilities and the national government has their own responsibilities. Dual federalism was mainly based around the Tenth Amendment which states that anything that isn t in the Constitution are reserved to the states. It is kind of like a tug of war, the state governments are on one side and the federal government on the other. The rope is pulled back and forth, and at one time one side sees to be winning, but then the rope gets pulled back to the other side. In the dual federalism, each government ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In the past, the Congress and the House have forced the state governments to meet in certain enviromental standards. (Sparknotes Editors, Federalism, page 2) In the early 1970s, the US knew that they needed a change in federalism so they called it new federalism. New federalism gave the states some power while knowing that the federal government is the highest power. At this time, the state government regained some power. Richard Nixon started to support this type of federalism during his presidency, and every president since Nixon has continued to support new federalism.(Sparknotes Editors,Federalism, page 1) Examples of when the National Government has withheld funding to the States to making them comply was in World War II when the people were relying on the federal money and when the government was relying on the states to follow federal policies. ( Sparknotes Editors, Federalism, page 1). Another example is when the government gave out block grants to give money on a fairly good purpose with no excuses. • 4. Pharyngeal Phase Pharyngeal Phase Despite the fact that the pharyngeal phase of swallowing is the most complex, from start to finish the entire phase takes less than one second. Sensory receptors at the back of the tongue and anterior faucial pillars are stimulated by the sensation of the bolus, and trigger the pharyngeal phase of swallowing. Additionally, the oropharynx detects and relays sensation information related to the viscosity and consistency of the bolus, which then influences the physiology of the pharyngeal swallow. Nevertheless, the swallow is also under volitional control, as one can be triggered without stimulation to the posterior oral structures (Logemann 1997; Corbin Lewis, Liss, Sciortino, 2005). Once the pharyngeal phase is triggered, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... During quiet breathing, the diaphragm contracts upon inhalation, causing the abdomen to depress and the ribcage to expand. Due to the pleural connection between the ribcage and the lungs, the expansion of the ribcage forces the lungs to expand as well. As the volume of the lungs increases, air rushes in through diffusion. Upon exhalation, the diaphragm relaxes, causing the ribcage and lungs to recoil without muscular assistance. Air rushes back out of the lungs, exiting through the mouth and nose. Forced breathing (such as during exercise) and speech breathing require greater muscle involvement for both the inhalation and exhalation portions of the respiratory cycle. Speech breathing involves rapid, forceful inspirations, and proportionally less time is spent inhaling than spent exhaling (Owens, Metz, Farinella, 2011). The muscles of forced inhalation (see Appendix B) assist by increasing the size of the thoracic cavity, allowing more air to enter the lungs. In addition, the muscles of forced inhalation contribute to the checking action that maintains support of the ribcage, preventing collapse (Taylor, 1960). The muscles of forced exhalation (see Appendix B) force the diaphragm upward, compressing the ribs, and thereby allowing the speaker to control the flow of air necessary for ... • 5. How Did Bob Marley Impact The World If someone was asked to name the first famous reggae artist that came to mind, the majority of people would say one name, Bob Marley. Robert Nesta Marley, commonly known as Bob Marley, is undoubtedly the most famous reggae artist of all time. Additionally, he is responsible for bringing reggae to the masses, and he did this through his unique style, raspy voice, guitar playing and drumming. Bob Marley is known around the world for not only his music, but also his greater message of peace. Furthermore, Marley became a cultural icon, as he encouraged others to rebel against racism and violence in the world. Early Life and Career Marley was born on the North side of Jamaica to a white Naval Officer Norval Marley and his mother Cedella Marley. When Bob Marley was young, his father Norval dropped him off at a elderly couples home in Kingston Jamaica, it was that last time Marley would see his father as he never returned. Moreover, Marley spent roughly a year and a half in Kingston which would prove to have a lasting impact on his life. While in Kingston, Marley was drawn to the vast musical culture and immersed himself within it. Furthermore, he experimented with instruments and reggae music in general. In his youth, those around Marley knew he was special as they believed he had magical powers and that he could tell fortunes. He was constantly asked to read palms, but after his stint in Kingston Marley changed. When people would ask Marley to read their palms he would respond by explaining to them that those days are over and that he is now a musician. (Dorsey, 1998). At age eleven Bob befriended a long time companion in Bunny Wailer. Their friendship blossomed just as fast as their love of music, they soon moved to Kingston together to try and start their musical career. In 1963 Marley met Joe Higgs, a man who gave him music lessons and had a large influence on Marley and his future music career. • 6. The Last Message From Earth THE LAST MESSAGE FROM EARTH is a sci fi thriller that features a compelling plot with a strong moral dilemma. The script merits consider, but there are still areas that would benefit from more development. First, the goal is clear and the stakes are high. The opening sequence is strong with the disappearance of young Danny. Immediately the audience is emotionally invested in the outcome. The script does a good job of establishing the goal for the parents. The structure works well. The opening establishes the ordinary life of Amelia and John Hart. It s clear they are scientists or engineers. There s a solid inciting event that immediately pulls the audience into the story with the disappearance of Danny. The second act is propelled ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Even in a short, there could be an added scene that shows Amelia re building the machine, as well as showing her physical and emotional struggle with building it. Perhaps a montage could highlight the stages of the progress, as well as showing Amelia sleeping with the Teddy Bear until she completes the machine. One might have her try it and it doesn t work. This would elevate the struggle and anticipation. Then she figures it out. However, it s not entirely clear how she would be able to recreate the exact same spot where Danny is. The teddy bear is a nice plant and symbolic of the parents inner conflict. It s a nice visual reminder of Danny. The use of the teddy bear also provides for a clever payoff when Amelia find finds the thumb drive. However, one small note about the Teddy Bear. It might be more emotionally engaging if the Teddy Bear is given to Danny when he s born vs. first seeing the teddy bear when he disappears. What s not clear is the motivation for Agent Roger to help the parents. Consider showing his struggle with his decision, or maybe he pulls out a picture of his own son. The audience will understand his moral dilemma. They will understand he s thinking about what he would do if it were his son. Rogers helps, but reports them missing. One assumes he s trying to cover his tracks by reporting them gone, but hoping they already escaped. However, it s not entirely clear. Or perhaps he thought they would escape through the side exits. The condenser also functions to maintain the temperature throughout the heating process and thereby maximizing the accuracy of the experimental results. The addition of boiling chips in the heating process to dissolve the diphenyl serves to minimize the possibility of the occurrence of bumping, i.e. sudden explosive boiling whereby large bubbles erupt from the heated solution. Instead, a steady stream of small air bubbles is produced with the addition of the chips. Subsequently after complete dissolving of the crude diphenyl, an additional 15 mL of ethanol is added to ensure that all the crude diphenyl is dissolved. A small amount of decolourising charcoal is added to the solution mixture. The decolourising charcoal serves to remove any impurities in the mixture, by adsorbing substances responsible for colouration of the solution on its surface via its activated properties. A small amount is used as the desired product may be adsorbed as well if a large amount is used instead. The mixture is filtered via a preheated stemless glass funnel immediately after boiling for 10 15 minutes. This is to prevent any early crystallization of the mixture since its crystallization temperature is quite low. The use of preheated apparatus for filtration is also to minimize premature crystallization of the mixture. Filtration of the mixture while it is still hot is to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The decline of indentured servitude and the rise of chattel slavery were caused by economic factors of the English settlers in the late 17th century. The Nursing and Midwifery Council (2010), suggest nurses should be able to consider patient s essential care needs and aid them with these needs when patients are not able to help themselves. Allowing nurses to make the patient feel comfortable, during periods when they may be undergoing distress or discomfort. Nurses have to deliver essential care such as making sure patients are eating sufficient amounts of food, keeping hydrated and assisting with hygiene needs. Arnett (2013) emphasises care needs are unique to each individual and vital for preserving patients health and well being. This links into Roper Logan Tierney (1999) model of activities of daily living identifying 16 activities essential to maintaining human life, including: eating and mobilising. Fulfilment and maintenance of these 16 activities indicate an individual is healthy and gives a focus for nurses to deliver targeted patient centred care. This is emphasised in Essence of Care (Department of Health, 2010) which reaffirms meeting essential needs of patients is the main focus point of nursing in contemporary practice. The Essence of Care is made up of 12 categories which health care professionals focus on in order to provide thorough patient centred care. Perks Of Being A Wallflower Psychological Analysis Abstract Perks of Being a Wallflower is a film about a 15 year old teenager boy, Charlie, who deals with his first love, flashbacks of his Aunt and his own mental illness. Psychological background of Charlie gives shape to his current behavior. Actors made the film realistic. When Charlie had mental breakdown, Logan Lerman embraced its character wholeheartedly. However, the film is messy as the directors put together many psychological problems in one scene making it difficult to figure out the psychological patterns. It would have been better if the writers organized some of the scenes more carefully. On the other hand, the film is still the best among other psychological films based on teenagers. • 16. The Bluest Eyes By Toni Morrison Society s perception of women is based on certain characteristics; Toni Morrison demonstrates this through her characters. Claudia, the youngest character, represents innocence that is conflicted between her own sensible judgment and what is expected of her. Pauline internalizes expectations, and lives accordingly, but lacks self identity. Having no sense of self she finds herself seeking validation from those who should not affect her. The Bluest Eyes by Toni Morrison focuses on the hardships that women of color face when seeking acceptance from society. She depicts how detrimental it is to believe that a woman s self worth is determined by society s unrealistic standards of beauty and femininity. It is said that beauty is in the eyes of the beholder, but in reality there seems to be only one standard to beauty. Although it was never stated in the novel that light skin was the epitome of beauty, it was very much imposed upon the female characters. When Claudia receives a fair skinned doll she is perplexed by how the women around her respond to it. The loving gift was always a blue eyes baby doll. I knew that the doll represented what they thought was my fondest wish they force the doll upon her, and in a larger sense it represents the passing of the torch. Claudia doesn t understand the women s fascination with the doll, and feels inferior to it because she knows no one has ever stared at her in that manner. Miss Universe and Miss USA soon followed, and by the 1960 s beauty pageants were part of American culture. Viewed as a positive and potentially rewarding competition, pageants have now recently had a drastic turn of view. Advocates of beauty pageants put forth that beauty contests develop self esteem and confidence (Ending the Hypersexualization of Girls). However, beauty pageants can be a highly destructive concept that can put too much pressure on its contestants to look perfect, put parents in a financial crisis, and quite frankly, be simply unhealthy. As well as participation in beauty pageants, there is a rage of them on television as well. Television images and broadcasts have had a huge impact on it s participants and the type of messages they internalize about what is normal . (Could Child Beauty Pageants Be Banned in the USA?). Children, as well as teens, view what they see on television as what they must become. Beauty pageants are very undermining to the participants emotional health, the pressure to look perfect, and it s countless negative effects they possess. The long standing opinion in the psychological community about beauty pageants is that they are not in the best interest of the participant ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 32. Analysis Of Le Guin Rhetorical Devices Analysis of Rhetorical Devices Not only does Le Guin apply rhetorical appeals in her speech, but she also incorporates a multitude of rhetorical devices, such as sententia and antithesis. Le Guin utilizes sententia when she states, Because you are human beings you are going to meet failure (Le Guin line 30). Le Guin attempts to tear down separation by gender and bring people together on common ground by concluding that males and females are both bound to face failure because everyone is simply human. To this end, she aims to halt comparison between genders as well as the notion that women are always secondary to men. In effect, Le Guin follows up with the rhetorical device antithesis to build upon her use of sententia. Le Guin uses antithesis in this section to help her emphasize the point: You will find you re weak where you thought yourself strong (Le Guin lines 31 32). Her illustration of antithesis further exemplifies the notion that gender does not matter when it comes to the struggles and failures of life, which all humans, regardless of gender, indisputably face. Le Guin ultimately deploys the rhetorical devices sententia and antithesis in unison to end contrast and conflict between genders and unite men and women alike. In addition to sententia and antithesis, Le Guin also employs parallelism and allusion in her speech. First, Le Guin exhibits parallelism in multiple places throughout her speech. Her most effective demonstration of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 33. The Social Aspect And Environment The social aspect and environment is one of the biggest reasons why people do what they do. Their interactions with others have contribute to their motives, drives and even thoughts, as if one person can help mold another into who they are. In a society, there are different communities made up of people of different races, religion and gender. In each of these communities, different morals and values are emphasized which affects everyone in the community and influences them as a whole. The closer the community, the more influences they have on each other whether they are good or bad. Respected scholars Clifford Shaw and Henry D. McKay began researching the juvenile courts records and they realized high rate of crimes weren t just based on a certain type of individual but where the individual lived and the structure of the neighborhood and how they were connected to the community which is called social disorganization. Social disorganization relies on many factors including residential instability and poverty. Social Disorganization beings with Robert Park and Ernest Burgess s Concentric Zone Model Theory, it shows the five different zone: Central Business District, Zone in Transition (highest crime), Zone of Workingmen s Homes, Residential Zone and Commuter Zone ( Professor Burgess theorizes that urban areas grew from the inner core (Business District) towards outer areas (Commuters Zone). Zone 2 is the highest level of crime where there is residential instability, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Effective Instructional Strategies to Ensure Fifth Grade Mathematics Readiness Literature Review The purpose of this literature review is an exploration into effective instructional strategies to ensure fifth grade mathematics readiness. This two part study investigates what teachers consider to be key elements in instructional design and implementation to support mathematics curriculum across the elementary grade levels. It will also investigate specific mathematics skills that teachers believe should be taught and reinforced each year from kindergarten through fifth grade. Due to the constant changes to the national and state education programs, there has been an increase in the focus on language objectives and literacy skills in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Unless a learner enters a grade with a full proficiency of the skills learned in prior years, that learner must be retaught or face the very real risk of falling even further behind. While reteaching is seen in a negative context, one in which students need remedial instruction to help them become proficient in heir current grade level skills, it is also seen as an effective instructional tool in the mathematics classroom. Incorporating curriculum review in daily instruction assists educators in finding deficiencies in foundational mathematics skills and addressing those needs in a timely manner. Early Numeracy in the Lower Elementary Grades Standardized testing has become a controversial topic. Contrasting opinions either support or oppose the use of standardized testing to truly measure a learner s proficiency. These tests base their content on what a learner should know by their respective school year. When a learner reaches the end of the fifth grade year, but is performing below average on their state s standardized test, one cannot help but wonder where the breakdown has occurred. The natural response is to want to locate the disconnect in a student s learning pattern and correct this for future students. By beginning early numeracy skills in early elementary grades, specifically kindergarten and first grade, students are beginning the scaffolding they need to successfully transition to subsequent grade levels. • 36. What Is The Argumentative Essay On The Lord Of The Flies Lord of the Flies Research Paper Wartime frequently brings out the worst in people, with its capacity for damaging mental and physical health, quality of life, and families. In William Golding s Lord of the Flies, the subject of war is ironically shown through the experiences of children. In particular, when children are unexpectedly exposed to war, they are emotionally damaged later in life and become accustomed to acts of violence. The children s exposure to war enables violent behavior. William Golding also has full power over how the characters in his book are perceived and behave, and his experience in the military in WWII is reasoning behind the plot and character behavior. In William Golding s Lord of the Flies, both the author s and the children s exposure to World War II works to fuel the violent actions on the island. William Golding has extensive experience as a general in World War II, and his perception of the war influences his novel. In Golding s words, When I was young before the war, before the War, I did have some airy fairy views about man... but I went through the war and that changed me (Golding 11). Golding explains that his views about the behavior of men changed when he went through World War II. The author s previous experiences correlate with the actions of the children and plot during this time period. In Violence in William Golding s Lord of the Flies , Dedria Bryfonski states, Golding found his voice and theme in the horrific experiences of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 37. The Cultural Impact Of Electricity And The World We Live In today s world nothing is more important than the gadgets we use on a every day to day basis. What we take for granted sometimes is the thing we use most and most importantly we use to charge everything most of the time is some type of electricity. I hope to provide a clear and concise paper that details and gives the cultural impact of electricity and the world we live. This paper will hit on three topics reconstruction to the beginning of where man first began to harness electricity, how man used this electricity to change the course of history as we know it, and the positives as well as the negatives of electricity and the world we live in. Electricity is a form of energy involving the flow of electrons. All matter is made up of atoms, and an atom has a center, called a nucleus. The nucleus contains positively charged particles called protons and uncharged particles called neutrons (Joseph, 2002)The nucleus of an atom is surrounded by negatively charged particles called electrons. The negative charge of an electron is equal to the positive charge of a proton, and the number of electrons in an atom is usually equal to the number of protons (Joseph, 2002).When the balancing force between protons and electrons is upset by an outside force, an atom may gain or lose an electron. When electrons are lost from an atom, the free movement of these electrons constitutes an electric current (Joseph, 2002). To understand electricity one must know that it is not an invention but a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 38. Delivery of Low Molecular Drugs Using Chitosan and Its... Delivery of low molecular drugs using chitosan and its derivatives 1. Introduction The primary focus of this term paper consists of two parts. First, review chitosan based drug delivery system for the delivery of traditional low molecular weight drugs based on a review paper titled targeted delivery of low molecular drugs using chitosan and its derivatives (Advanced Drug delivery reviews, 2010). Second, critique an original research paper about hydrotropic oligomer conjugated glycol chitosan as a carrier for tumor targeted paclitaxel delivery, which was published in Journal of Controlled Release in 2013 (title: Enhanced drug loading and therapeutic efficacy of hydrotropic oligomer conjugated glycol chitosan nanoparticles for tumor targeted paclitaxel delivery). Chitosan, a linear aminopolysaccharide composed of randomly distributed (1→4) linked D glucosamine and N acetyl D glucosamine units, is obtained by the deacetylation of chitin, a structural element in the exoskeleton of crustaceans, which is the second most abundant natural biopolymer after cellulose (Fig. 1). The most easily exploited sources of chitin are the protective shells of crabs and shrimp. The primary aliphatic amines of chitosan can be protonated under acidic conditions (amine pKa is 6.3). Fig 1. Chemical structure of chitosan Research showed that long circulating macromolecules (polymer drug conjugates) and nano sized particulates (such as micelles and liposomes) accumulate passively at the ... • 39. Unemployment Is A Key Macroeconomic Indicator Unemployment is a simple term in itself but the concept is not as clear cut as it may suggest. Unemployment is a key macroeconomic indicator used by policymakers to determine the economy s performance relative to it s productive potential (OECD, 2014). However, for it to be a reliable indicator there must be a commonly accepted definition to allow for comparison. The United Kingdom follows the internationally agreed definition of unemployment set by the International Labour Office (hereinafter: ILO) as Anybody who is without work, available for work and seeking work. This includes those who have actively sought work in the last 4 weeks, available to start work in the next 2 weeks, or is waiting to start work in the next 2 weeks (Geneva 1982, Cited by International Labour Office). The Labour Force Survey (hereinafter: LFS) is a sample survey covering a three month period that is consistent with the ILO definition, this allows for cross country comparisons. It is a direct assessment of unemployment is used to establish those that are employed, unemployed or economically inactive. Another means of unemployment measurement is the Claimant Count, it s a by product of administrational data collected by records of those on job seekers allowance. For the sake of this essay I will not be focusing on the Claimant count due to it underestimating unemployment figures as seen in below in Figure 1. • 40. The Demonstration Of Leadership By Craig Johnson Essay Demonstration of Leadership Craig Johnson wrote an article in November 2008 to evaluate the most controversial tenure of Carly Fiorina, the former Chief Executive Officer of Hewlett Packard (HP), using the ethical leadership construct. In the article, Johnson generates several questions that relate to leadership and management practices. The evaluation of HP s former Chief Executive Officer is influenced by the fact that the company experienced a decline in productivity within a short period after the CEO entered the organization. Actually, Fiorina entered a largely successful firm and introduced significant changes within a short time duration, which had considerable impacts on the firm s operations. The dramatic changes that were introduced within a short time culminated in the decline of the value of the company s stock within five years and the eventual unceremonious removal of the CEO. This paper provides a response to the article through examining how it demonstrates leadership. Analysis and Discussion As previously mentioned, the article by Craig Johnson examines the rise and fall of Carly Fiorina, HP s former Chief Executive Officer who was unceremoniously removed following the tremendous impact that her dramatic changes had on the firm s productivity and success. At the turn of the millennium, Carleton Fiorina was the most powerful businesswoman in the United States who rose quickly through the ranks at AT T and Lucent Technologies (Johnson, 2008, p.188). ... • 41. Cardiovascular Regulation Of Plasma Volume In order to study the kidney s regulation of plasma volume, osmolality, and pH, the changes in urine flow rate, specific density, and urine pH of adult human subjects were measured. Subjects were assigned one of four beverage options: water, Gatorade, Coke, or nothing. Beverages of different compositions were used to study what effects does fluid intake have on urine volume and composition. Subjects fasted five hours prior to the experiment, in which the subjects were required to void and test their own urine every thirty minutes for 120 minutes after ingesting the beverage they were assigned. The urine volume, specific gravity, and urine pH were measured for each void. The subjects were instructed to fast five hours prior to the experiment and were allowed to drink only eight ounces of water if necessary (Manuguid et al., 2015). Avoiding food or drink rendered the subjects in a similar physiological state at the start of the experiment. This is important because the consumption of food or drink shortly before the experiment may affect the volume and composition of the urine voided, which would have affected the results. If a subject had ingested a considerable amount of fluid an hour before the experiment, their urine volume for their first void could have been greater than expected. The amount of liquid the subjects ingested depended on their body weight. As a result, the amounts of liquid ingested varied within the drinking groups. At T0, the subjects were in a state of ... As we know the food and drug administration (FDA) regulates and approves our vaccines for public use. In 1955 the FDA approved and provided licensure for the polio vaccine for public use within two hours (Gale, Null, 2015). This was the fastest vaccine approved by the FDA ever. Although this resulted in a nightmare and many children and adults were affected with many different forms of paralysis and some even lost their life as a result, there was still some good that came from the poliovirus vaccine. In 2016 the FDA gave breakthrough status and approval, which will allow hundreds of patients to be treated ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
