A Sociological Issue On South Africa
In South Africa race took a shift from biology to culture. Because is of its many diverse indigenous
groups, race was no longer a difference between Afrikaners and the English but with Zulus, Xhosa and
Tswanas. Language was used as a determinant of race. Dubow argues that not much scientifically
constructed race has been done in South Africa despite the fact that race has deep seated roots. This is
because many dismissed race as being scientific as it began to appear to be a sociological issue.
Science was then pushed aside and race was now seen as a social and intellectual construct (Dubow,
1995: 2 5) from natural science to solely social science resulting from everyday experiences. When we
say race is a social construct we disregard any possibility of it being that of a scientific one. It is not
something that we are born with because of our culture (Erasmus, 2005: 9), instead, simply out, race is
a bunch of meanings that we attach to people. We do not dispute the fact that there are differences
among people. Those differences just run much deeper. By saying race is a social construct this is not
to say that it doesn t exist seeing that it affects our lives; it determines our real life experiences. Saying
it is socially constructed means that race is a learnt behaviour and what can be learnt can easily be
unlearnt. We say it is constructed because it was used as a basis of division by powerful people who
felt superior. Its implications as a construct are still very

Federalism And The Separation Of Powers
Federalism is a way of organizing a nation so that two or more levels of government have formal
authority over the same area and people, ensuring that one does not become too powerful and aids in
the separation of powers. Liberty is a state of freedom within a society from oppressive restrictions
imposed by authority on one s way of life, behavior, or political views. Although these two political
science terms are different, they correlate and interact with one another in the American Government
and are still relevant to contemporary policy issues faced today. James Madison s The Federalist No.
47 doctrine exemplifies this: In order to form correct ideas on this important subject, it will be proper
to investigate the sense in which the preservation of liberty requires that the three great departments of
power should be separate and distinct.
Madison based the concept of federalism on the French lawyer Montesquieu s theory of the separation
of powers. This theory states: Were the executive power not to have a right of restraining the
encroachments of the legislative body, the latter would become despotic; for as it might arrogate to
itself what authority it pleased, it would soon destroy all the other powers. Madison, along with the
other Founding Fathers, took heed to this warning and created the three branches (executive,
legislative, and judicial). Although this system does provide a distinct separation, it does not call for
absolute separation. Instead, the

My Papas Waltz And My Father s Song
Every one of us has a childhood, some of us may experience a memorable one, while some of us want
to erase it from our memory. Everyone also has their own personal feelings towards a father s figure
due to their personal experiences they have as a child. The poems My Father s Song, by Simon J.
Ortiz, and My Papa s Waltz, by Theodore Roethke, are two similar poems written about a father and
child relationship. My Papa s Waltz creates a debate whether the father son relationship is sweet
loving memory or a confession of childhood abuse. The two poems are spoken from the child s point
of view during a memorable event in their childhood. The poems My Father s Song and My Papa s
Waltz both share a theme of admiration each kid has looking upon their father and a warm memory.
The writers use a variety of poetic devices such as tone, word choice, imagery, and figurative
language. Firstly, In My Father s Song, the tone is nostalgia, it s a perfect demonstration of emotion
the speaker feels about his father. My Papa s Waltz, poem s tone is playful and light created by the
pleasant rhythm iambic, which makes the poem short and sweet. The tone is promoted through word
choice, Both writers use similar word choice to strengthen the theme of admiration. In the poem, My
Papa s Waltz, gives us a both and negative feeling, he uses words such as Still clinging to your shirt
this shows that he hangs onto his father s shirt, not wanting to let go after his father waltzing him off
to bed. His descriptions of the dance give us a fun, playful feeling. Despite the fact the waltz is tough,
he still loves his dad. In My Father s song, the speaker remembers his father s voice. The speaker
describes his experience as His voice, the slight catch, the depth from his this thin crest, the tremble of
emotion in something he has just said to his son, his song (Ortiz 3 7). The speaker remembers every
detail about his father. The child misses his father and cared profoundly about him, especially more
tonight Wanting to say things, I miss my father tonight (1 2)
Thirdly, Both writers use a lot of imagery in their poems, they use a big amount of imagination to tell
their experiences. Each poem is developed out of

The Extinction Of The Dinosaurs Extinction
Imagine you were a dinosaur, living 65 million years ago. One day, you are going around doing what
you do on a normal basis, when suddenly you see a giant object coming towards the ground a few
hundred miles away from you. Then suddenly, it goes black as gases block out all light except for one
light coming rapidly towards you. Other dinosaurs are running away from the light as you start
following them. You look behind you to see the light is quickly catching up to you as suddenly it
catches you. You feel immense pain and then you are dead. I believe that the mass extinction of the
dinosaurs sixty five million years ago was caused by an asteroid ten kilometers wide striking just off
of the coast of the Yucatan peninsula, that caused smoke to block out the sun and for fireballs to shoot
across the sky. About 65 million years ago, an asteroid is said to have crashed off the coast of the
Yucatan peninsula. This crash is what some scientists believe to be the reason the dinosaurs went
extinct. The first to believe that impact was the cause of the extinction were the father son duo of Luis
and Walter Alvarez. They think that because of the crash the sun was blocked out by dense clouds of
dust. The crash also most likely didn t kill just the dinosaurs but, according to PBS, ...caused the
extinction of just the dinosaurs, but of up to 70 percent of all plants and animals living at the time. The
asteroid was also most likely not traveling very slowly. It is believed it was

Abstract
This paper explains the development in the human computer interaction by using the analytics
technologies. The analytics technologies act as a decision support system for the further development
in the human computer interaction. These analytical systems help us to identify the potential uses and
help us to correct if any flaws are present in the existing ones. In this paper, we use dashboards for the
analytical tools where these can be used in various domains like hospital, schools, industry and many
places in the industry by the management and helps to drive towards decisions which can be used to
improve their methods of interaction with the computing system. Based on these observations we
identify the issues related to these two fields of the interesting research area.
Introduction
The HCI and Analytics is a vast scope subject with a lot of research going on as it is a new field of
interest. This field involves a lot of data analytic technologies applied on top of the human computer
interaction technologies. For the analytics to be performed efficiently we use concepts like data
warehousing, mining and build our decision support systems and do analysis on the

Extracellular Compartments Essay
1. Extracellular compartment(ECF) is affecting the early fluid loss.
2. The loss of sodium ions contributes to dehydration because it s causing the fluid to shift out of the
bloodstream and into cells.
3. Some of the early signs of dehydration Mr. K.B. is showing are dizziness, sunken eyes, dry mouth,
low blood pressure, and his pulse and respirations are rapid.
4. The expected pH level would be greater than 7.45 after the early vomiting.
5. Due to the loss of fluid and electrolytes the body will be compensate by increasing thirst, increasing
heart rate, constricting the cutaneous blood vessels leading to pale and cool skin, producing less urine
and concentration the urine (Gould, VanMeter, Hubert 2014)

The serum sodium levels appear to be higher than normal because the water is shifting from the ECF
into the intracellular compartments (ICF).
8. High serum sodium levels affect ICF because it s causing the ICF levels to increase, which is
affecting how the cells are operating. This cause hypovolemia and the decrease of blood pressure.
Because of the shift in the ICD, the cells will swell causing it to decrease its ability to function
followed by a ruptured cell.
9.
a. If fluid loss is continuing to happen, the blood volume will decrease as well, causing dehydration,
meaning ECF will shift to ICF.
b. If fluid loss is continuing to happen the, cell function will decrease as well or it ll stop working
properly as the fluid increases inside the cell and it may cause the cell to rupture.
c. If fluid loss is continuing to happen, the kidney may over work itself. Because of the dehydration,
the kidney is trying to compensate by making concentrated urine.
10. Because of Mr.K.B history, potassium imbalance may have more serious effects on him because
he has a history of heart problems, and an abnormal level of potassium may causes cardiac
arrhythmias and may progress to a cardiac arrest. (Gould, VanMeter, Hubert

Sea Stars
I understand why you may think sea stars are not important, however they are a keystone species and
essential in their environment. If you are not sure what a keystone species is, it is a species that has a
key role in sustaining the life of other organisms in an economic system (Ferrer, 2015). Many species
of the rocky intertidal communities depend upon the sea star. Sea stars feed on sea urchins, which
control the population. Without sea stars all other organisms would vanish except for mussels (Phelan,
2010). A sea stars role as a keystone species is maintaining an ecosystem by eating species that
quickly reproduce such as urchins and mussels. The urchin population would multiply in large
amounts hurting the kelp forests that they themselves ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
You see Aunt Gertrude, the complete fallout of sea stars will have a domino effect on other organisms
in the ocean eventually cutting into the food chain which would be a disaster once reaching us
humans. Sea stars are not the only keystone species; it can be any species that sustains the life of other
organisms in an environment. It is crucial to make sure these species are surviving and thriving. The
loss of such an important character affects all the organisms in that environment. If we begin to loose
biodiversity our planet will slowly deteriorate. More species means more growth and life on Earth. It
also enables us with resources to recover more efficiently from natural disasters (Why is Biodiversity
Important?). Each species relies on the next as a source of survival. The removal of a keystone species
may eventually cause extinction of many other species, which would eventually result in the
deterioration of our planet. Biodiversity is important to our planet for the purpose of sustaining all life

Fracking And Its Effects On The Environment
If given the opportunity to help the nation become energy independent, while increasing jobs in your
area, most people would happily accept. This opportunity would also be boosting the economy, both
locally and nationally, all without the environmental impact of carbon emissions. Does the decision
become a no brainer? But what if this new found energy dependence comes with hidden costs other
than carbon emissions? Would you still want this opportunity in your area? This is what experts and
passionate amateurs alike have been debating about fracking, also known as hydraulic fracturing..

for many. In 2012 alone the fracking industry supported 2.1 million jobs. (Economy) There is also a
lot of potential for growth, according to Purdue University economist, Wallace Tyner. In the article
The Liberal War On American Energy Independence , author Arthur Herman conveys that Tyner
suggested that between 2008 and 2035 that fracking will add around $473 billion dollars each year to
U.S. economy. (Herman) Fracking has already had an impact on foreign oil dependency, and it is
definitely for the better. The New York Times reported In 2011, the country imported just 45% of the
liquid fuels it used, down from a record high of 60 percent in 2005. (Krauss) This is a crowning
achievement for many of the big supporters of fracking. Production could eventually reach to 10
million barrels a day, making us a real competitor of Saudi Arabia. (Krauss)

Maximizing Naitonal Security Through Foreign Policy
Foreign policy can be understood as a set of political goals that aims to outline how a particular state
will interact with others For Beach (2012), Foreign policy actions can be undertaken using a variety of
different instruments, ranging from adopting declarations, making speeches, negotiating treaties,
giving other states economic aid, engaging in diplomatic activity such as summits, and the use of
military force . No matter which instruments are used, the primary objective of states in outlining their

States within the international system are said to be existing under the same conditions as there is no
effective overarching authority mediating disputes between nations (Waltz 1979). Realists argue that
states are compelled to seek power in order to ensure their own security. They posit that the primary
national interest of all states is national security. Though there have been different strands of realism
within IR theory, they are all united in their subscriptions to the concepts of survival and self help
(Dunne Schmidt, 2011).
Due to realists depicting the international realm as anarchic, the first priority of state leaders is to
ensure the survival of the state. Because there is no guarantee that states can ensure their safety from
external threats, the use of force which can escalate to war is seen as a legitimate tool of statecraft
such force can be used to start wars or be used as an element of coercive diplomacy (Art Cronin,
2003). For realists, the possibility of states using force against one another is ever present, generating
insecurity between them. But anarchy is not the only factor that generates insecurity between states.
First, most states possess some form of offensive capability which they can use against rivals. Second,

Synthesis Of Music Essay
To what extent does music act as a mnemonic device for musically untrained participants when trying
to recall song lyrics?
Introduction
A quantitative experimental investigation was undertaken to determine if musical structure acted as a
mnemonic device, especially for remembering song lyrics. The version of the song (sung or spoken)
formed the independent variable, whereas the dependent variable was the amount of words recalled.
Previous studies suggest that melody assisted with recalling the lyrics if the melody provided
rhythmic, poetic and thematic constraints. Researcher Kilgour (2000), found that song lyrics, when
spoken, were not recalled as efficiently as they were if sung with rhythmic intonations and beat.
Studies show that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
If this investigation was to be repeated on a comparable group of participants and the results were
similar, you are then able to call this investigation reliable. Conversely, if it was to be repeated again,
similar results would be predicted to occur. Due to the fact of the data not being reliable, it cannot be
considered valid. The investigation does not test the participant s recall ability outside of the
controlled environment, as the investigation took place in a laboratory. This cannot be stated as a true
reflection of someone s memory outside the laboratory, therefore the research lacks external validity.
This particular investigation lacked in internal validity, due to the deficiency of sample size, age
range, gender equality and background bias. Therefore, the generalisation cannot be made for the
general public. Some extraneous variables from this investigation include; participants knowing the
lyrics prior to the recall test, the participant s health, the participant s ability to participate in tests and
conceivably if the participants have consumed breakfast on the day of the investigation. Due to these

Gullivers Travels Comparison Between Book and Movie Essay
Gullivers Travels Comparison Between Book and Movie It is common in today s media driven society
to reach into the past for inspiration and ideas. A trend has developed where original works are
transformed into other mediums. For example: books are turned into movies and/or plays, movies are
turned into weekly sitcoms, and cartoons will spawn empires (Disney). These things happen so often
that an audience rarely stops to question the level of authenticity that remains after these conversions.

Cobwebs and dust obscure the sign at first, but Gulliver breaks down the barrier and wipes the sign to
reveal that he has found the Room of Answers. He enters the room and asks if the man there can tell

himself. This second Gulliver states You know the way home, but you ll never find it because deep in
you heart, you don t want to to which the original Gulliver replies That s not true!
The scene described above appears to be quite critical to the plot development in the movie. However,
this appears nowhere in the original text. The viewer must ask him/herself why this was added and the
consequences of the change. The movie version of this story portrays Gulliver as a travel that has been
gone for eight consecutive years and had been searching for his way home the entire time. He merely
falls into unfortunate circumstances that prevent this return. In the book, however, it is less clear that
Gulliver desires to be home at all. He very rarely speaks of his family and seems to have little emotion
at being reunited with them after each journey or when he leaves them again. The movie s alternate
portrayal of Gulliver seems incongruent with the added scene. Instead, this extra scene would appear
to make more sense if the character of Gulliver was depicted as he was in the book.

Wealth Inequality In South Dakota
In order to understand what could cause wealth inequality, the income in South Dakota will be
examined. While it is well understand that income distribution and wealth distribution are two
separate entities, the two are related and generally cause one another. In South Dakota, from the 1970
s to the mid 2000 s the household income of the bottom fifth grew by 24.3% (in real dollars) however,
the income of the top fifth grew by 91.7%. In addition, if the timeframe is shortened to the 1990 s to
the mid 2000 s the bottom fifth had a decrease in income of 12.5% yet, the top fifth still experienced
25.7% growth. As a result, South Dakota experienced the second highest change in income inequality
during these periods (McNichol). The dramatic change ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The answer? There is no single answer when it comes to wealth in South Dakota. Between the
impoverished regions of the reservations and the large wealth of the average farm and numerous small
business, the distribution is difficult to accurately measure. Income taxes in South Dakota would not
be very effective based on the aforementioned facts. Another solution could be implementing a capital
gains tax. However, once again, South Dakota has a tremendous amount of money in agricultural real
estate totaling over 67 billion dollars (South Dakota Transfer of Wealth Update Technical Report).
While there is a great amount of money there, capital gains would be unable to tax this. In addition,
the lack of capital gains taxes has brought a great deal of financial centers to the state, benefiting the
population. Consequently, proposing a capital gains tax could cause these companies to leave and
South Dakota might be left worse off. Property taxes could be one solution to redistribute this vast
amount of wealth however, South Dakota already ranks 36th highest out of all the states in property
taxes (Kieren). An increase in property taxes would therefore be difficult to propose and pass in the
legislature. So what based on all of this information should South Dakota do anything? The answer, is
maybe to do nothing. Wealth inequality is certainly a growing issue nationwide but, in South Dakota it
doesn t appear to as drastic as a problem. Furthermore, the complications of an agriculture economy
makes solutions complicated. South Dakota may have some wealth inequality but, for now, it doesn t

Personal Identity In Fashion
I, a Personal Project Fashion is historically known as a form of expression, and with style, one can
portray their self identity. Growing up I was clinically labeled as obese for my age, fluctuating
between gaining and losing weight almost to this day. Since I value fashion and style immensely not
being able to be comfortable with my body, and in hand with myself, had a negative impact on my
daily life. Also, the negative attitude that came with being overweight in society and not fitting into
the criteria of the ideal body didn t help on my self value and self esteem. An impact so significant that
I changed the direction of my future career in working in the fashion industry because I thought that
my appearance wouldn t have worked in my favor in the fashion and couture world of size zero
models. Although my parents taught me to be relentless when it came to my dreams and to never
undervalue myself, their lessons and words of wisdom weren t going to change how I perceived the
world to think. Had I gone through that phase of my life nowadays, it would ve carried on a different
course. With all the pro self love and embracing your curves movement that s been on social media
now, there is a positive attitude of one and their body, in any shape and form. I couldn t be happier
with the current trends of having a healthy body to be fit, versus to lose weight to be skinny. Hip Hop

Value Chain Analysis By Jim Riley
Jim Riley published study notes about value chain analysis and he teaches that value chain analysis
describes the activities that take place in a business and relates these activities to an analysis of the
competitive strength of the business. This paper includes comparing and contrasting two articles. The
first article is The 7 Steps of Software Development Case Study Chapter 1 but the second one is Value
Chain Analysis by Jim Riley. Also, these two articles will be applied to the company Pep Boys, which
I chose to do the value chain analysis to. Since I do not work yet, I chose Pep Boys because my close
friend works there as a vice president of marketing. There are seven traditional steps that can go bad in
a software development project but if you follow all these steps than your software project is going to
be in a better shape and it should not have that many crashes. The first step is preliminary
investigation or analysis, where software developers and project managers clarify the requirements to
project sponsors. Second is specification and requirements analysis, which involves taking the
requirements and describing them in a way meaningful to programmers. The third step is design or
architecture, which gets into more low level details. The next step is where the program is built, also
called as development or coding. The fifth step is testing and documentation, which makes sure that
the program functions as required and that the program s functionality is

Why A Parrot Owner Or Just Preparing For Bring One Home
Whether you are an experienced parrot owner or just preparing to bring one home, there are many
important factors that must be considered. Owning a parrot is an incredible commitment. It requires 24
hour responsibility and an awareness of factors that most people never give a second thought to. Some
of these factors can mean life or death to a parrot. We still do not know very much about how our day
to day living affects our feathered companions, so it s important to remain up to date and continue
your research every day. Parrots have a very sensitive respiratory system. They have a set of lungs as
well as air sacs that are distributed throughout the body. This makes their breathing extremely efficient
and incredibly sensitive to chemicals and fumes. Scented candles, plug in home deodorizers, hair
products and perfumes, cigarettes, etc. can cause great harm and even death when used in the same
room as a parrot. If it smells strongly to you, it could be harming your parrot. On the other side of that,
there are many products that we cannot smell that can be just as harmful. PTFE/non stick coated
cookware, space heaters, self cleaning ovens, etc. have the potential to off gas and release very
harmful fumes that can kill parrots in a matter of seconds. Many products are being manufactured with
non stick parts that are not listed in their manuals/warning paperwork. This is where doing your
research is imperative. If you own your house, there are other dangers to consider. Pest

Camelot Eulogy
I started working at Camelot s Books two years ago. It s the only job I ve ever enjoyed. I don t make a
lot of money, but I never have to pay for books. If anything interesting ever happens to me, I am going
to write a book myself. I tell this to Thomas, but he only laughs.
Thomas says I don t owe my family anything. Not even a eulogy. He says, but sometimes you have to
be the bigger person.
Thomas asks what my mom did for a living and I tell him that she was a professor. She taught

Thin Client Computer Lab Project
Introduction Computers are an integral part of 21st century life, and as such technology education is
recognized as part of the Illinois Learning Standards (ISBE, 2008). A computer lab is an efficient way
to deliver access to computers and the Internet to students. Traditional labs, like the one at Dvorak
Technology Academy, are populated with complete, standalone computer systems. In network terms
these are fat clients , because each workstation is a complete system, with its own memory and disk
space and performing most if not ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
A thin client lab will allow Dvorak to extend its financial resources by saving on new computer
resources and extending the life of existing assets. In addition, computer lab fat clients require
substantial maintenance to keep the systems in working order. While CPS s computer support systems
help with this task through programs like Deep Freeze, routine hardware maintenance as well as
software installs and updates not covered by CPS can be a significant drain on technology coordinator
resources. A thin client architecture can reduce the workload of the technology coordinators by
centralizing management and reducing the kinds of workstation maintenance that needs to be done.
Finally, thin client networks are very scaleable. If, in the future, web based applications or
productivity applications require more processing power than is currently available in the lab,
additional servers can be added to the system to handle the added load instead of upgrading all of the
workstations. As classroom desktop computers are upgraded, the older classroom machines can be
used as additional workstations in the lab, or replace failing lab systems, or deployed in a new lab.

Phantom Limb
The author starts off by recalling his personal experiences with phantom limbs. A young boy had a
phantom limb phenomenon. The term phantom limb was first used by Silas Weir Mitchell in 1872.
Phantom limb seems to occur because of the images created by the images of the body and makes the
person always believe that it is all there even after an amputation. The body is basically trying to make
sense of the amputation. It is not actually caused by incorrect neural activity. It is actually more built
from the part of the brain that creates the mental image of the body. Turns out on 90 percent of
amputee actually have a phantom limb experience. Researchers have tried to treat phantom limb with
the mirrors and Virtual Reality.
A phantom limb can actually be very painful and debilitating to a person and hinder their daily life.
Severe pain can also cause the patient to reject the use of a prosthetic limb in place of the amputated
one. Sadly most people do not find relief in many of the pain therapy options offered. Often if there
was any pain right ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
We have sadly not found a permanent solution to the problem but are working towards it. As of now,
though, we use mirrors and virtual reality techniques to try and alleviate the pain of phantom limbs. So
far we can say that the brain is partially involved in the problem. It seems that it want to believe it is
still there because it is just supposed to be. We know it is supposed to be there because of the
neuromatrix or our neurosignature. The neurosignature is basically the blueprint of our own body. It is
created from the time or birth and even infants who are born without limbs seem to have the phantom
limb experience. This is a social and individually debilitating problem because of the severe pain and
sometimes confusion if the parietal lobe is damaged. It is so painful most people cannot even find
relief from therapy

The Gun Laws And Banning The United States
Amar Redzepagic 10/3/15
The gun laws and bans in the United States are not helping to make things better or decrease our crime
rate or solve anything instead we need better background checks to make sure we are not giving guns
to the wrong people. A study published in the Harvard journal of law and public policy discovered that
the nations with more guns tend to have a lower crime rate (Snyder, Michael. N.p., 12 Aug. 2013.
Web. 26 Mar. 2015.). This proves that people tend not to commit a crime if they know that people
around them are armed and ready to fire also they know that if they go to a country with a lower
percentage of gun ownership they are not taking as much risk because there aren t that many guns in
the area.
Are all these bans and laws really necessary? The nine European nations with the lowest rate of gun
ownership have a murder rate that is three times higher than the nine European nations with the
highest rate of gun ownership (Snyder, Michael. N.p., 12 Aug. 2013. Web. 26 Mar. 2015), I think guns
are actually helping us, overall guns are used eighty times more to prevent crimes rather than used in
them. In the United States about 200,000 women protect themselves against sexual assault using guns
every year. (Snyder, Michael. N.p., 12 Aug. 2013. Web. 26 Mar. 2015). The city of Kennesaw,Georgia

On April 27, 1584, Raleigh dispatched a journey led by Phillip Amadas and Arthur Barlowe to search
for the Eastern coast of North America. They arrived on Roanoke Island on July 4, and almost
immediately recognized relations with the local citizens, the Sectoans and Croatans. Barlowe returned
to England with two Croatans named Manteo and Wanchese, who were able to explain the
government and natural features of the region to Raleigh. Based on this knowledge, Raleigh prepared
a second journey, to be led by Sir Richard Grenville.
Greenville s convoy departed Plymouth on April 9, 1585, with five major ships: the Tiger (Grenville
s), the Roebuck, the Red Lion, the Elizabeth, and the Dorothy. Consequently, a harsh rainstorm off the
shore of Portugal divided the Tiger from the rest of the convoy. The captains had an unforeseen event
plan if they were divided, which was to get together up again in Puerto Rico, and the Tiger reached in
the Baye of Muskito (Guayanilla Bay) on May 11.
While anticipating for the additional ships, Grenville recognized relations with the Spanish there while
concurrently engaging in some privateering in opposition to them, and also built a fort. The Elizabeth
arrived almost immediately after the fort s creation. Eventually, Grenville worn out off anticipating or
the remaining ships, and departed on June 7. The fort was discarded, and its site remains unknown.
When the Tiger sailed through Ocracoke Inlet on June 26,

The World Wide Web as Social Hypertext
Something curious is happening on the World Wide Web. It is undergoing a slow transformation from
an abstract, chaotic, information web into what I call a social hypertext.
Initially, I didn t pay much attention to the Web. After all, it was just a new take on distributed
information server systems such as WAIS[8] and Gopher[1]. True, it was easier to use than WAIS, and
the ability of Web browsers to display formatted text and graphics with embedded links made it more
attractive and engaging than either WAIS or Gopher. But there was nothing really new; it was an
incremental advance, a new combination of well known functionality. So I mentally categorized the
Web as just the latest fashion to sweep the internet.
In this I was quite ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The difficulty is that I may not have time to comment on it, or I may glance at it and find it
uninteresting, and so I am left in an awkward position. The same issues arise, mutatis mutandis , in
sharing one s own work. In short, the ability to find out what someone else is doing, without mutual
knowledge of what s happening, is a boon to both parties. This non mutuality of knowledge is one of
the characteristics that makes social hypertext different from more direct forms of communication.
While the non mutuality and socially driven search strategies are important practical outcomes of the
transformation of the web into social hypertext, I believe that in the long run it is the use of web pages
for personal portrayal that will have the most profound effects. Note that while personal portrayal is a
new type of usage of the web, it is very ordinary behavior in the real world. People go to considerable
effort and expense to manage their appearance. Portrayal management ranges from the ways in which
people act in public [4, 5], to the clothes they wear [7] and the goods they possess and consume [2].
The World Wide Web is one of the first venues where individuals can construct portrayals of
themselves using information rather than consumer goods as their palette. For the first time,
individuals can project huge amounts of detailed information about themselves to a mass audience
they are no longer limited to assembling montages of consumer items that at best

Comparing Empires (Persia vs Rome)
Jacob Anderson
World Civ I
Empires
Persia Rome
The foundations of an ancient empire are shaped by many characteristics originating in a civilization s
social, philosophical, and theological values. Collectively these will bring about an empire that has
aspects which will classify them in distinctive ways. The aspects that will be compared between Persia
and Rome are the motives for expansion, methods of expansion, the administration, the impact on
those conquered and the original empire, and the reasons for the decline of each empire. When
combined, these aspects predispose the individual overall shape of ancient Rome and Persia. Both
empires began with conquering larger rulers and creating vast empires which had never been seen ...

Having the satraps lessened the attempt of independence as well as having an administration made up
of locals helped keep revolts down. The impact of expansion on the core Persian Empire was
generally looked at and received in a positive manner. Increasing populations created more cities and
more job opportunities allowed many Persians the luxury of making more money as the empire grew.
The bulk of the empire was still mostly farmers, however. One of the largest influences on the core
empire was Zoroastrianism. This was advocated by both Cyrus and Darius, Darius used it in order to
claim divine right to kingship. This new religion spread very quickly through high ranking Persians
(Bentley and Ziegler, 174). Zoroastrianism preached for people to enjoy this life but to live well for
the afterlife (Stearns, Zoroastrianism: The Major Persian Religion, 43 45). This allowed people to
have fun in this life and still be able to have eternal bliss; when people are having fun and happy they
are less likely to challenge their rulers. Cyrus and Darius both tolerated ethnic and theological
diversity. They did not try to force Persian culture on the conquered people. It seemed as though the
Persians just wanted to have the right to tax and have control of the land and its riches. The Seleucids,
Parthians, and Sasanids also advocated this policy. Although this policy worked quite well in allowing
for fluid execution of ruling,

This suggests that Hank s parents, like many people in modern society, will not find happiness
because they live with insatiable desires and therefore will not get the feeling of satisfaction in their
lives. The characterization of Hank himself also shows how people in the contemporary society
always want more. For example, when Hank woke up from his dream about his socks, he realized that
nothing good or special or wonderful has happened to him. (7) This shows that Frank is idealistic and
has superfluous expectations in life. Also, Hank has a nice girlfriend who cares about him and loves
him, but he still thinks about how he would leave her even though there are no reasons for him to do
so. When his girlfriend asks him if he was happy, he says, Sometimes I am. Mostly, I guess I just feel
like I can t be really happy. Just missing something important. (7) Another passage would be when his
girlfriend asked him if he likes her, he answered: sometimes I like you and maybe I think I even love
you a little. And sometimes I hate you. (7) We can see that Hank is uncertain about his feelings for his
girlfriend and if she is the person that he wants to be with. Those are typical examples of a person who
is not sure about what he wants and believes that there is always something better waiting for him.
The thing that is missing for Hank is simply appreciating what he already possesses. From this
reasoning, it is clear that great

Being the first true group of digital natives, it is no surprise that the children of Generation Z tend to
take in information instantaneously and lose interest just as quickly, especially when it comes to
learning in the classroom. Perhaps this is because few classrooms utilize any of the 21st century
technologies that are often needed to maintain students interest, and for good reasons too. In many
works of science fiction, technology is portrayed as inherently evil, and readers are often told stories
of the the potential uses of technology that range from bizarre to troublesome, to downright
horrendous. However, with so many new learning technologies being created and made available to
the public, such as the 3D printer, touch board electronic desks, virtual reality gear, and the entirely
virtual classroom, which is still under development, students are soon going to see a change in not

The Generation Of Offset Curves
Introduction
Metalworking is one of the oldest occupations of humankind. At the beginning of last century
metalworking machine tools were invented and these were controlled by an operator who performed
all the movements of the tool in order to obtain the final parts. Nowadays, metalworking using
machine tools is one of the most important activities to support industries development and the most
important of these industries is the automotive industry.
The main purpose of this paper is to investigate the generation of offset curves, considering both naive
approaches and more sophisticated approaches such as the Voronoi diagram. The paper starts by
explaining some basic concepts of offset machining, insisting on the most important types of
compensation. The next section includes a discussion on different ways of representing curves in a
computer program, starting with two dimensional curves and ending with non uniform rational B
spline curves (NURBS).
The basics of offset machining
Definition 1.1 A Computer Numerical Control (CNC) machine is a machine tool that uses
programmed commands (alphanumeric codes) to control its movements and functions. The
applications of CNC machines include drill press, sheet metal press, milling machine, laser, grinding,
welding machine etc.
The most fundamental operation that can be performed with a CNC machine is to remove all the
material that lies within some boundary. A CNC machine makes use of mathematics and various

Equine Therapy For Children With Disabilities
Furthermore, research is demonstrating the promise that equine therapy holds for children with
intellectual disabilities. When compared to traditional intervention methods, equine therapy is a bit
more cost effective, meaning more families can afford equine therapy. With this in mind, it shows
promise of becoming a standard form of early intervention for individuals with disabilities (Holmes et.
al. 120). As the child ages, research is showing more and more support for equine therapy. It was
mentioned previously how equine therapy can help a child in the classroom. Research shows that
equine therapy can help a child in nearly every aspect of his or her life. Equine therapy proved in one
study that it helps children with intellectual disabilities with their balance, thanks to the stimulating
movements of the horse (Biery et. al. 1). Motor skills have improved after just a few sessions in
equine therapy, whether it be riding or hippotherapy (Snider et. al. 1). In addition, researchers have
found that social skills have improved with equine therapy (Bass, Dunchowny llabre 1266). The
reason for the improvement in social skills is because in therapeutic riding lessons, children are given
the chance to interact with other individuals who are similar to them. This creates a bond between the
students. Individuals in hippotherapy gain social skills because of the interactions they have with a
therapist, and the bonds formed with the horse. All of these researchers have

Taking A Personality Test And Seeing If They Match With...
The purpose of this paper is about taking a personality test and seeing if they match with someone s
career choices. There is a famous one that is mostly used was developed by Carl G. Jung and was later
modified by Isabel Myers Briggs. This test is common to be used by someone that is trying to find
their career path before college and some employers use it to see if someone is a fit in their company.
But can a test like this can really define that a career is perfect for someone or can it tell an employer
if they could be a good employee. They can give someone an idea on possible careers path but that
person would have to be happy with their choice. The test could help someone to determine what
careers that could be the most fulfilling or rewarding and are most successful in. One of the reasons
why someone would take this type of test to see what possible careers they may be good at. One of the
thing that this type of test looks at is to see what personalities would work well together. If they
employees cannot work well with each other then it would cause conflict in the work place and it
would disrupt the place of business. Conflict can happen in a place of business from team members to
different departments. It can even happen between employee and boss or direct department supervisor.
Extrovert types tend to speak out and what is on their mind where an introvert will more than likely
have their own conclusion. So it could be a conflict of personalities of an extrovert

Ohio V. United States in Violations from the Constitution
Both the fourth and fifth amendment protect the privacies of individuals from governmental intrusion.
Appellant Boyd complained that she was denied her constitutional right to testify. The right to testify
comes from many amendments and clauses in the constitution such as the due process clauses, the
Fifth, and Fourteenth amendment. The court held that the search for and seizure of evidence within an
accused s possession might well result in compelling the accused to be a witness against himself.
Then, the court reasoned that the search was unreasonable ab initio and it makes it a violation of the
fourth amendment. Justice Black mentioned in his concurrence that if something is obtained illegally,
it cannot be used again the appellant. The Boyd s case was not the only case mentioned in the Mapp v.
Ohio opinion. Additionally, Weeks v. United States (1914) was a case that determined the warrantless
seizure of items from an individual is a violation of the Fourth Amendment. The police seized a few
papers from Freemont Weeks s home and he was charged with transporting lottery tickets through the
mail. These papers were taken from his home without a warrant. Weeks asked that his papers be
returned to him. This case is another example of the violation of the fourth amendment. The opinion
giving in this case agreed that the constitution protects the rights of the citizens unless someone
committed a crime. Therefore, the government has the permission to restrict someone s

African Americans After Reconstruction Dbq
Reconstruction DBQ Reconstruction after the civil war gave African Americans an extremely limited
amount of freedom compared to the equality and freedom that slavery had denied them. Though they
were free in theory, in practice, they were not as free at all. At times, they were so restricted that they
were basically treated like slaves, even though that isn t what they were called after reconstruction.
Their freedoms in practice were not the humane freedoms they dreamed of; their sphere of freedoms
had increased very minimally compared to what they had as slaves. Some of what they had to face
now was arguably even more brutal than what they had to face as slaves. After the Civil War, freedom
for African Americans were only lip deep (Doc ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The brutal treatment of blacks (Jim Crow laws) and the race inspired violence all started with the
freedoms and equality that were denied to the blacks after Reconstruction, since that movement was
ultimately a failure on its part. The Civil Rights movement, guided by important and influential
leaders such as Martin Luther King Jr. and Rosa Parks, began to fight these prejudiced sentiments. It
can clearly be seen through this movement (which happened many years after Reconstruction) and
other credible sources that blacks were truly unable to reach the freedom and equality that they
deserved after the Civil War. If they had been given more freedoms and more equality sooner, the
Civil Rights movement may not have even occurred, since racial inequality between whites and blacks
caused the Civil Rights movement to begin in the first

The Effects Of Instant Messaging While Reading A Passage
Bowman, Levine, Waite, and Gendron (2010) discuss their research on the effects of instant
messaging while reading a passage. This study contains all of the elements of a true experiment, and
their results conclude that it is more challenging to finish a passage efficiently while also focusing on
instant messaging (Bowman et al., 2010). Bowman et al. s (2010) article enhances a readers
understanding of the meaning of multitasking and affirms the assumption that multitasking is a
challenging feat and one that people should refrain from using to complete tasks. Taylor s (2011)
article, similarly, discusses the usage of multitasking and the effects on its users. However, Bowman et
al. s article is an empirical study, and Taylor s is an ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Taylor (2011) cited Nass s study, which also used college undergraduates as participants. These
researchers generalized their findings to the greater population even though the study was testing the
multitasking ability of college students doing a school related activity. Another similarity is Bowman
et al. (2010) discusses how multitasking uses different areas of the brain depending on the tasks that
are simultaneously being done. Taylor (2011) similarly describes the conditions in the brain that
process the different types of tasks that are being done successively as a result of attempting to
multitask. Additionally, Bowman et al. s (2010) research and Taylor s (2011) article discuss similar
effects of multitasking. For example, Bowman et al. and Taylor find that simultaneously switching
between tasks results in needing more time to complete it. These two similarities join the two articles
together in a way that they can both enhance the readers understanding of the true meaning and
implication of multitasking.
There are also a few differences that can be found between Taylor s (2011) article and Bowman s et al.
(2010) article. These difference include Bowman et al. s empirical study versus Taylor s informal
article, Taylor s lack of an experimental design, and Taylor s explanation of serial tasking. The first
major distinction is that Bowman et al. s article is an empirical study. It has all of the

Judging To Kill A Mockingbird by Harper Lee
Judgment has become part of everyday life, something you need to get used to. To Kill a Mockingbird
by Harper Lee a historical fiction. Whether it was Scout, Jem or, any of the Maycomb citizens they
always had judge everybody and anybody that came in there sight. Being even racist against the black
happen every day, judging them by their looks and skin color was the ways many people in Maycomb
function. Throughout the novel the characters judge each other though first impressions, social class
and behavior. Social class judgment has occurs in the story many in the story many of times. One
example would be when Jem judges Maycomb citizens by who they like and do not like. The thing
about it is, our kinds of folks don t like the Cunninghams, the Cunnighams don t like the Ewells, and
the Ewells hate and despise the colored folks. (258). Social class was being judged here and that is one
of many social class judgment in this story by the characters. Another social class judgment would be
when Miss Caroline was being judged on her wealth and her looks by Scout. Miss Caroline was no
more than twenty one. She had bright auburn hair, pink cheek, and wore crimson fingernail polish.
(18). Scout judges on the way Miss Caroline looks and the ways she looks shows her wealth. There
was also another social class judgment in the book when the trial was starting and the colored folks
have to sit in the balcony. The colored balcony ran along three walls of the courtroom... (186 187).

The Effect Of Child Interaction On Brain Development
The authors of this article, Martha Ann Bell, Annie Bernier, and Susan D. Calkins (2016) set out to
find whether or not early care giving experiences have an effect on brain development. The authors
hypothesized that good childcare, or nurturing, would have a positive effect on synapse formation in
the brain. The authors noted that there has not been a lot of research on the effects of mother infant
interactions on child development thus far. The only cases done at large are those of the severe
situations of child neglect and abuse. They were inspired by Greenough, Black, and Wallace s (1987)
influential propositions pertaining to the experience dependent nature of brain development (Bell et.
al, 2016). There is remarkable plasticity present ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The sample size was not big enough, toward the end they had under 200 participants in the study. For
a study s results to have much more of a significant impact the sample size has to be quite large. This
was hardly a big study. As for the methods section, they only filmed the mother for two minutes
playing with her infant. Infants brain activity cannot be properly examined with just a two minute
interval of playing with their mother. This short time of interaction can hardly detect a significant
effect on an infant s brain activity. With that being said, this longitudinal study should have gone up
until the age of at least 2 or 3, this study does not really delve into the complete effect of infant mother
interaction if it doesn t show how it effects these children in the future. The authors also found small
sample size as a limitation, stating that the covariates were modest in magnitude due to small sample
size and therefore resulted in a lower statistical power. They also a agreed that the two minute
evaluation wasn t long enough and suggested a few hours as sufficient to detect some sort of positive
correlation. They also believed the controls implemented, previous power and key sociodemographics
held constant in the regression models , may have led to the small magnitude between infant EEG
power and maternal behaviors. These were the only limitations they discussed which they believe

Analysis Of Rosa Parks And The Civil Rights
On December 1, 1955, Ms. Rosa Parks, a 42 year old African American woman who worked as a
seamstress, boarded a Montgomery, Alabama city bus to go home from work. She sat near the middle
of the bus, right behind the seats reserved for whites. Soon all of the seats in the bus were filled. When
a white man entered the bus, the driver followed the standard practice of segregation and insisted that
all four Blacks sitting just behind the white section give up their seats so that the man could sit there.
Ms. Parks quietly refused to give up her seat and move to the back of the bus.
This story is a familiar one, retold over and over as a symbol of the civil rights. There are dozens of
books about Rosa Parks that have been published, many of them for children. Literature written for
and about African American children can now be found on many bookstore shelves and in public and
school libraries throughout the United States, and the characters in these books are often historical
figures like Rosa Parks. Others reach back to the arrival of the African in America and to the
continuous struggle and development of African Americans that is evident even today. Some books
reach even further back, taking child readers to the continent of Africa before there was an America.
The stories of these characters also display the different regions, class levels, and family structures of
African Americans.
Literature written for children and young adults can be used as one of the strategies

Why I Want To Be Cheer Essay
The moment I knew I wanted to do cheer the rest of high school was during fishbowl. While I was
cheering to the loud, enthusiastic crowd, I had realized I was much happier cheering on the sidelines
than in the stands, or anywhere else. I just wanted to be cheering because cheer is very fun, and I love
everything about being on the team. It values team building and highly emphasizes school spirit. I am
very dedicated and excited about cheer because it involves skills that I naturally pick up on quickly
and/or I can work on in a fun, yet ambitious way. What makes a good team member is someone who
looks out for everyone and is there for you no matter what. Someone who is always willing to help out
the team and team mates individually as well.

Pegasus in Modern Culture
In Greek mythology, Pegasus was the son of Poseidon and Medusa, having sprung from the blood of
Medusa as it dropped into the sea after her head was severed by Perseus. He was captured by
Bellerophon at the water of his fountain and was ridden by him when he killed Chimera. Bellerophon
showed disrespect to the Gods as he attempted to ride Pegasus to Mount Olympus and Zeus sent an
insect to sting Pegasus and Bellerophon was thrown back. Pegasus found sanctuary on the sacred
mountain, where he carried Zeus thunderbolts and was ridden by Eos, the goddess of dawn. Under his
feet sprang the sacred springs of the Muses on Mount Helicon.

a rotating platform with seats for passengers. The seats are traditionally in the form of wooden horses,
which are often moved mechanically up and down to simulate galloping. One particular carousel is
named Flying Horses, located in Martha s Vineyard, in Massachusetts. It was the first carousel ever
built. The name, Flying Horses, relates to Pegasus, because Pegasus could fly, and also the fact that all
the seats are horses. The creators of this carousel either indirectly or directly based it off of Pegasus,
the flying horse.

  • 2. A Sociological Issue On South Africa In South Africa race took a shift from biology to culture. Because is of its many diverse indigenous groups, race was no longer a difference between Afrikaners and the English but with Zulus, Xhosa and Tswanas. Language was used as a determinant of race. Dubow argues that not much scientifically constructed race has been done in South Africa despite the fact that race has deep seated roots. This is because many dismissed race as being scientific as it began to appear to be a sociological issue. Science was then pushed aside and race was now seen as a social and intellectual construct (Dubow, 1995: 2 5) from natural science to solely social science resulting from everyday experiences. When we say race is a social construct we disregard any possibility of it being that of a scientific one. It is not something that we are born with because of our culture (Erasmus, 2005: 9), instead, simply out, race is a bunch of meanings that we attach to people. We do not dispute the fact that there are differences among people. Those differences just run much deeper. By saying race is a social construct this is not to say that it doesn t exist seeing that it affects our lives; it determines our real life experiences. Saying it is socially constructed means that race is a learnt behaviour and what can be learnt can easily be unlearnt. We say it is constructed because it was used as a basis of division by powerful people who felt superior. Its implications as a construct are still very ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Federalism And The Separation Of Powers Federalism is a way of organizing a nation so that two or more levels of government have formal authority over the same area and people, ensuring that one does not become too powerful and aids in the separation of powers. Liberty is a state of freedom within a society from oppressive restrictions imposed by authority on one s way of life, behavior, or political views. Although these two political science terms are different, they correlate and interact with one another in the American Government and are still relevant to contemporary policy issues faced today. James Madison s The Federalist No. 47 doctrine exemplifies this: In order to form correct ideas on this important subject, it will be proper to investigate the sense in which the preservation of liberty requires that the three great departments of power should be separate and distinct. Madison based the concept of federalism on the French lawyer Montesquieu s theory of the separation of powers. This theory states: Were the executive power not to have a right of restraining the encroachments of the legislative body, the latter would become despotic; for as it might arrogate to itself what authority it pleased, it would soon destroy all the other powers. Madison, along with the other Founding Fathers, took heed to this warning and created the three branches (executive, legislative, and judicial). Although this system does provide a distinct separation, it does not call for absolute separation. Instead, the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. My Papas Waltz And My Father s Song Every one of us has a childhood, some of us may experience a memorable one, while some of us want to erase it from our memory. Everyone also has their own personal feelings towards a father s figure due to their personal experiences they have as a child. The poems My Father s Song, by Simon J. Ortiz, and My Papa s Waltz, by Theodore Roethke, are two similar poems written about a father and child relationship. My Papa s Waltz creates a debate whether the father son relationship is sweet loving memory or a confession of childhood abuse. The two poems are spoken from the child s point of view during a memorable event in their childhood. The poems My Father s Song and My Papa s Waltz both share a theme of admiration each kid has looking upon their father and a warm memory. The writers use a variety of poetic devices such as tone, word choice, imagery, and figurative language. Firstly, In My Father s Song, the tone is nostalgia, it s a perfect demonstration of emotion the speaker feels about his father. My Papa s Waltz, poem s tone is playful and light created by the pleasant rhythm iambic, which makes the poem short and sweet. The tone is promoted through word choice, Both writers use similar word choice to strengthen the theme of admiration. In the poem, My Papa s Waltz, gives us a both and negative feeling, he uses words such as Still clinging to your shirt this shows that he hangs onto his father s shirt, not wanting to let go after his father waltzing him off to bed. His descriptions of the dance give us a fun, playful feeling. Despite the fact the waltz is tough, he still loves his dad. In My Father s song, the speaker remembers his father s voice. The speaker describes his experience as His voice, the slight catch, the depth from his this thin crest, the tremble of emotion in something he has just said to his son, his song (Ortiz 3 7). The speaker remembers every detail about his father. The child misses his father and cared profoundly about him, especially more tonight Wanting to say things, I miss my father tonight (1 2) Thirdly, Both writers use a lot of imagery in their poems, they use a big amount of imagination to tell their experiences. Each poem is developed out of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 6. The Extinction Of The Dinosaurs Extinction Imagine you were a dinosaur, living 65 million years ago. One day, you are going around doing what you do on a normal basis, when suddenly you see a giant object coming towards the ground a few hundred miles away from you. Then suddenly, it goes black as gases block out all light except for one light coming rapidly towards you. Other dinosaurs are running away from the light as you start following them. You look behind you to see the light is quickly catching up to you as suddenly it catches you. You feel immense pain and then you are dead. I believe that the mass extinction of the dinosaurs sixty five million years ago was caused by an asteroid ten kilometers wide striking just off of the coast of the Yucatan peninsula, that caused smoke to block out the sun and for fireballs to shoot across the sky. About 65 million years ago, an asteroid is said to have crashed off the coast of the Yucatan peninsula. This crash is what some scientists believe to be the reason the dinosaurs went extinct. The first to believe that impact was the cause of the extinction were the father son duo of Luis and Walter Alvarez. They think that because of the crash the sun was blocked out by dense clouds of dust. The crash also most likely didn t kill just the dinosaurs but, according to PBS, ...caused the extinction of just the dinosaurs, but of up to 70 percent of all plants and animals living at the time. The analytics technologies act as a decision support system for the further development in the human computer interaction. These analytical systems help us to identify the potential uses and help us to correct if any flaws are present in the existing ones. In this paper, we use dashboards for the analytical tools where these can be used in various domains like hospital, schools, industry and many places in the industry by the management and helps to drive towards decisions which can be used to improve their methods of interaction with the computing system. Based on these observations we identify the issues related to these two fields of the interesting research area. Introduction The HCI and Analytics is a vast scope subject with a lot of research going on as it is a new field of interest. This field involves a lot of data analytic technologies applied on top of the human computer interaction technologies. High serum sodium levels affect ICF because it s causing the ICF levels to increase, which is affecting how the cells are operating. This cause hypovolemia and the decrease of blood pressure. Because of the shift in the ICD, the cells will swell causing it to decrease its ability to function followed by a ruptured cell. 9. a. If fluid loss is continuing to happen, the blood volume will decrease as well, causing dehydration, meaning ECF will shift to ICF. b. If fluid loss is continuing to happen the, cell function will decrease as well or it ll stop working properly as the fluid increases inside the cell and it may cause the cell to rupture. c. If fluid loss is continuing to happen, the kidney may over work itself. Because of the dehydration, the kidney is trying to compensate by making concentrated urine. 10. If you are not sure what a keystone species is, it is a species that has a key role in sustaining the life of other organisms in an economic system (Ferrer, 2015). Many species of the rocky intertidal communities depend upon the sea star. Sea stars feed on sea urchins, which control the population. Without sea stars all other organisms would vanish except for mussels (Phelan, 2010). The loss of such an important character affects all the organisms in that environment. If we begin to loose biodiversity our planet will slowly deteriorate. More species means more growth and life on Earth. It also enables us with resources to recover more efficiently from natural disasters (Why is Biodiversity Important?). This opportunity would also be boosting the economy, both locally and nationally, all without the environmental impact of carbon emissions. Does the decision become a no brainer? But what if this new found energy dependence comes with hidden costs other than carbon emissions? Would you still want this opportunity in your area? History Of the U.S. Marine Corps Noncommissioned Officer 1958 Present Noncommissioned Officers are the backbone of the Marine Corps. Each leader is vastly different from the other. Some Marines enjoy being a corporal only because of the increase in rank and pay. A few become the tactless leaders junior Marines try to avoid. Fortunately, many others mature into Marines who strive to become the leader that other Marines wish to emulate. They know what it means to be a good leader. States within the international system are said to be existing under the same conditions as there is no effective overarching authority mediating disputes between nations (Waltz 1979). Realists argue that states are compelled to seek power in order to ensure their own security. They posit that the primary national interest of all states is national security. Though there have been different strands of realism within IR theory, they are all united in their subscriptions to the concepts of survival and self help (Dunne Schmidt, 2011). Due to realists depicting the international realm as anarchic, the first priority of state leaders is to ensure the survival of the state. Because there is no guarantee that states can ensure their safety from external threats, the use of force which can escalate to war is seen as a legitimate tool of statecraft such force can be used to start wars or be used as an element of coercive diplomacy (Art Cronin, 2003). • 16. Synthesis Of Music Essay To what extent does music act as a mnemonic device for musically untrained participants when trying to recall song lyrics? Introduction A quantitative experimental investigation was undertaken to determine if musical structure acted as a mnemonic device, especially for remembering song lyrics. The version of the song (sung or spoken) formed the independent variable, whereas the dependent variable was the amount of words recalled. Previous studies suggest that melody assisted with recalling the lyrics if the melody provided rhythmic, poetic and thematic constraints. Researcher Kilgour (2000), found that song lyrics, when spoken, were not recalled as efficiently as they were if sung with rhythmic intonations and beat. Studies show that ... The investigation does not test the participant s recall ability outside of the controlled environment, as the investigation took place in a laboratory. This cannot be stated as a true reflection of someone s memory outside the laboratory, therefore the research lacks external validity. This particular investigation lacked in internal validity, due to the deficiency of sample size, age range, gender equality and background bias. Gullivers Travels Comparison Between Book and Movie Essay Gullivers Travels Comparison Between Book and Movie It is common in today s media driven society to reach into the past for inspiration and ideas. A trend has developed where original works are transformed into other mediums. For example: books are turned into movies and/or plays, movies are turned into weekly sitcoms, and cartoons will spawn empires (Disney). These things happen so often that an audience rarely stops to question the level of authenticity that remains after these conversions. This second Gulliver states You know the way home, but you ll never find it because deep in you heart, you don t want to to which the original Gulliver replies That s not true! The scene described above appears to be quite critical to the plot development in the movie. However, this appears nowhere in the original text. The viewer must ask him/herself why this was added and the consequences of the change. The movie version of this story portrays Gulliver as a travel that has been gone for eight consecutive years and had been searching for his way home the entire time. He merely falls into unfortunate circumstances that prevent this return. In the book, however, it is less clear that Gulliver desires to be home at all. He very rarely speaks of his family and seems to have little emotion at being reunited with them after each journey or when he leaves them again. The movie s alternate portrayal of Gulliver seems incongruent with the added scene. Instead, this extra scene would appear to make more sense if the character of Gulliver was depicted as he was in the book. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

While it is well understand that income distribution and wealth distribution are two separate entities, the two are related and generally cause one another. In South Dakota, from the 1970 s to the mid 2000 s the household income of the bottom fifth grew by 24.3% (in real dollars) however, the income of the top fifth grew by 91.7%. In addition, if the timeframe is shortened to the 1990 s to the mid 2000 s the bottom fifth had a decrease in income of 12.5% yet, the top fifth still experienced 25.7% growth. There is no single answer when it comes to wealth in South Dakota. Between the impoverished regions of the reservations and the large wealth of the average farm and numerous small business, the distribution is difficult to accurately measure. Income taxes in South Dakota would not be very effective based on the aforementioned facts. Another solution could be implementing a capital gains tax. However, once again, South Dakota has a tremendous amount of money in agricultural real estate totaling over 67 billion dollars (South Dakota Transfer of Wealth Update Technical Report). While there is a great amount of money there, capital gains would be unable to tax this. In addition, the lack of capital gains taxes has brought a great deal of financial centers to the state, benefiting the population. Consequently, proposing a capital gains tax could cause these companies to leave and South Dakota might be left worse off. Property taxes could be one solution to redistribute this vast amount of wealth however, South Dakota already ranks 36th highest out of all the states in property taxes (Kieren). An increase in property taxes would therefore be difficult to propose and pass in the legislature. So what based on all of this information should South Dakota do anything? The answer, is maybe to do nothing. Wealth inequality is certainly a growing issue nationwide but, in South Dakota it doesn t appear to as drastic as a problem. Why A Parrot Owner Or Just Preparing For Bring One Home Whether you are an experienced parrot owner or just preparing to bring one home, there are many important factors that must be considered. Owning a parrot is an incredible commitment. It requires 24 hour responsibility and an awareness of factors that most people never give a second thought to. Some of these factors can mean life or death to a parrot. We still do not know very much about how our day to day living affects our feathered companions, so it s important to remain up to date and continue your research every day. Parrots have a very sensitive respiratory system. They have a set of lungs as well as air sacs that are distributed throughout the body. This makes their breathing extremely efficient and incredibly sensitive to chemicals and fumes. Scented candles, plug in home deodorizers, hair products and perfumes, cigarettes, etc. can cause great harm and even death when used in the same room as a parrot. If it smells strongly to you, it could be harming your parrot. On the other side of that, there are many products that we cannot smell that can be just as harmful. PTFE/non stick coated cookware, space heaters, self cleaning ovens, etc. have the potential to off gas and release very harmful fumes that can kill parrots in a matter of seconds. Many products are being manufactured with non stick parts that are not listed in their manuals/warning paperwork. This is where doing your research is imperative. The term phantom limb was first used by Silas Weir Mitchell in 1872. Phantom limb seems to occur because of the images created by the images of the body and makes the person always believe that it is all there even after an amputation. The body is basically trying to make sense of the amputation. It is not actually caused by incorrect neural activity. It is actually more built from the part of the brain that creates the mental image of the body. Turns out on 90 percent of amputee actually have a phantom limb experience. Researchers have tried to treat phantom limb with the mirrors and Virtual Reality. A phantom limb can actually be very painful and debilitating to a person and hinder their daily life. The Gun Laws And Banning The United States Amar Redzepagic 10/3/15 The gun laws and bans in the United States are not helping to make things better or decrease our crime rate or solve anything instead we need better background checks to make sure we are not giving guns to the wrong people. A study published in the Harvard journal of law and public policy discovered that the nations with more guns tend to have a lower crime rate (Snyder, Michael. N.p., 12 Aug. 2013. Web. 26 Mar. 2015.). This proves that people tend not to commit a crime if they know that people around them are armed and ready to fire also they know that if they go to a country with a lower percentage of gun ownership they are not taking as much risk because there aren t that many guns in the area. Are all these bans and laws really necessary? This non mutuality of knowledge is one of the characteristics that makes social hypertext different from more direct forms of communication. The bulk of the empire was still mostly farmers, however. One of the largest influences on the core empire was Zoroastrianism. This was advocated by both Cyrus and Darius, Darius used it in order to claim divine right to kingship. This new religion spread very quickly through high ranking Persians (Bentley and Ziegler, 174). Zoroastrianism preached for people to enjoy this life but to live well for the afterlife (Stearns, Zoroastrianism: The Major Persian Religion, 43 45). • 36. The Generation Of Offset Curves Introduction Metalworking is one of the oldest occupations of humankind. At the beginning of last century metalworking machine tools were invented and these were controlled by an operator who performed all the movements of the tool in order to obtain the final parts. Nowadays, metalworking using machine tools is one of the most important activities to support industries development and the most important of these industries is the automotive industry. The main purpose of this paper is to investigate the generation of offset curves, considering both naive approaches and more sophisticated approaches such as the Voronoi diagram. The paper starts by explaining some basic concepts of offset machining, insisting on the most important types of compensation. The next section includes a discussion on different ways of representing curves in a computer program, starting with two dimensional curves and ending with non uniform rational B spline curves (NURBS). The basics of offset machining Definition 1.1 A Computer Numerical Control (CNC) machine is a machine tool that uses programmed commands (alphanumeric codes) to control its movements and functions. The applications of CNC machines include drill press, sheet metal press, milling machine, laser, grinding, welding machine etc. The most fundamental operation that can be performed with a CNC machine is to remove all the material that lies within some boundary. • 39. Equine Therapy For Children With Disabilities Furthermore, research is demonstrating the promise that equine therapy holds for children with intellectual disabilities. When compared to traditional intervention methods, equine therapy is a bit more cost effective, meaning more families can afford equine therapy. With this in mind, it shows promise of becoming a standard form of early intervention for individuals with disabilities (Holmes et. al. 120). As the child ages, research is showing more and more support for equine therapy. It was mentioned previously how equine therapy can help a child in the classroom. Research shows that equine therapy can help a child in nearly every aspect of his or her life. Equine therapy proved in one study that it helps children with intellectual disabilities with their balance, thanks to the stimulating movements of the horse (Biery et. al. 1). Motor skills have improved after just a few sessions in equine therapy, whether it be riding or hippotherapy (Snider et. al. 1). In addition, researchers have found that social skills have improved with equine therapy (Bass, Dunchowny llabre 1266). The reason for the improvement in social skills is because in therapeutic riding lessons, children are given the chance to interact with other individuals who are similar to them. This creates a bond between the students. Individuals in hippotherapy gain social skills because of the interactions they have with a therapist, and the bonds formed with the horse. All of these researchers have ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

There is a famous one that is mostly used was developed by Carl G. Jung and was later modified by Isabel Myers Briggs. This test is common to be used by someone that is trying to find their career path before college and some employers use it to see if someone is a fit in their company. But can a test like this can really define that a career is perfect for someone or can it tell an employer if they could be a good employee. They can give someone an idea on possible careers path but that person would have to be happy with their choice. The test could help someone to determine what careers that could be the most fulfilling or rewarding and are most successful in. One of the reasons why someone would take this type of test to see what possible careers they may be good at. One of the thing that this type of test looks at is to see what personalities would work well together. If they employees cannot work well with each other then it would cause conflict in the work place and it would disrupt the place of business. Conflict can happen in a place of business from team members to different departments. It can even happen between employee and boss or direct department supervisor. Appellant Boyd complained that she was denied her constitutional right to testify. The right to testify comes from many amendments and clauses in the constitution such as the due process clauses, the Fifth, and Fourteenth amendment. The court held that the search for and seizure of evidence within an accused s possession might well result in compelling the accused to be a witness against himself. Then, the court reasoned that the search was unreasonable ab initio and it makes it a violation of the fourth amendment. Justice Black mentioned in his concurrence that if something is obtained illegally, it cannot be used again the appellant. The Boyd s case was not the only case mentioned in the Mapp v. Ohio opinion. Additionally, Weeks v. United States (1914) was a case that determined the warrantless seizure of items from an individual is a violation of the Fourth Amendment. The police seized a few papers from Freemont Weeks s home and he was charged with transporting lottery tickets through the mail. These papers were taken from his home without a warrant. Though they were free in theory, in practice, they were not as free at all. At times, they were so restricted that they were basically treated like slaves, even though that isn t what they were called after reconstruction. Their freedoms in practice were not the humane freedoms they dreamed of; their sphere of freedoms had increased very minimally compared to what they had as slaves. Some of what they had to face now was arguably even more brutal than what they had to face as slaves. After the Civil War, freedom for African Americans were only lip deep (Doc ... It can clearly be seen through this movement (which happened many years after Reconstruction) and other credible sources that blacks were truly unable to reach the freedom and equality that they deserved after the Civil War. The authors hypothesized that good childcare, or nurturing, would have a positive effect on synapse formation in the brain. The authors noted that there has not been a lot of research on the effects of mother infant interactions on child development thus far. The only cases done at large are those of the severe situations of child neglect and abuse. For a study s results to have much more of a significant impact the sample size has to be quite large. This was hardly a big study. As for the methods section, they only filmed the mother for two minutes playing with her infant. Infants brain activity cannot be properly examined with just a two minute interval of playing with their mother. This short time of interaction can hardly detect a significant effect on an infant s brain activity. With that being said, this longitudinal study should have gone up until the age of at least 2 or 3, this study does not really delve into the complete effect of infant mother interaction if it doesn t show how it effects these children in the future. The authors also found small sample size as a limitation, stating that the covariates were modest in magnitude due to small sample size and therefore resulted in a lower statistical power. They also a agreed that the two minute evaluation wasn t long enough and suggested a few hours as sufficient to detect some sort of positive correlation. They also believed the controls implemented, previous power and key sociodemographics held constant in the regression models , may have led to the small magnitude between infant EEG power and maternal behaviors. Analysis Of Rosa Parks And The Civil Rights On December 1, 1955, Ms. Rosa Parks, a 42 year old African American woman who worked as a seamstress, boarded a Montgomery, Alabama city bus to go home from work. She sat near the middle of the bus, right behind the seats reserved for whites. Soon all of the seats in the bus were filled. When a white man entered the bus, the driver followed the standard practice of segregation and insisted that all four Blacks sitting just behind the white section give up their seats so that the man could sit there. Ms. Parks quietly refused to give up her seat and move to the back of the bus. This story is a familiar one, retold over and over as a symbol of the civil rights. There are dozens of books about Rosa Parks that have been published, many of them for children. Literature written for and about African American children can now be found on many bookstore shelves and in public and school libraries throughout the United States, and the characters in these books are often historical figures like Rosa Parks. Others reach back to the arrival of the African in America and to the continuous struggle and development of African Americans that is evident even today.
