Healthcare in Under-Developed Countries
Healthcare in Under Developed Countries
The author of this response is asked to answer for and to a series of questions related to healthcare
providing and availability in under developed countries. The author will explain, in order, responses to
the question of what the challenges are in under developed countries, will speak to research generated
strategies about how to address those challenges, and will offer strategies for how a nurse can
advocate for health care at the global level. The assignment asks whether one nurse can make a
difference and the answer to that is certainly in the affirmative.
Challenges in Under Developed Nations
There are number of factors that make healthcare in certain nations difficult to impossible to keep
fluid and proper for the citizenry involved. There are obvious examples like locations and amounts
hospitals and doctor offices but there are also other major examples that some people gloss over or
miss entirely. One example is countries or area that are lacking in infrastructure including roads,
plumbing and supply delivery lifelines. Another example would be a dearth in qualified nurses and
doctors due to circumstances like sub standard schools and colleges, presuming they are even present
in the first place. Yet another example would be government graft and incompetence further bungling
or sabotaging the process whereby the government should be helping the healthcare system of their
people rather than harming it based on corruption or

The Issue of Overfishing
In contemporary society, human society is progressing rapidly on various fronts. Nevertheless at the
same time, the problem of overfishing is becoming increasingly worrisome and attract extensive
attention of the society. In this essay, I will address overfishing and propose some possible causes of
this phenomenon which can give contribution to some solutions. Introduction
This issue of overfishing covers vast fields, such as science, humanity, economy, society and nature.
The term optimum , in regard to the yield from a fishery, is difficult to be defined, precisely and
fixedly. Generally speaking, we can describe it as follows: (Niles E. Stople, January 2009, FishNet
USA)
Will provide maximum effectiveness benefit to the Nation, particularly in relation to food production
and recreational opportunities, and giving consideration to the protection of marine ecosystems
In case of an overfished fishery, provides for reconstructing to a level consistent with producing the
maximum sustainable yield in such fishery
Overfishing s status as the focus of public concern mainly results from its negligible but harmful
influence on individuals, collective, and even the whole world. One of the world s significant fishery
in the East China Sea is damage by overfishing and growing levels of contamination, recent research
has shown, confirming the fear of fishermen and environmentalists. (Xinhua on GOV, Lu Hui, ed. 16

The Great Influenza By John M. Barry
The book The Great Influenza: The Story of the Deadliest Pandemic in History, written by John M.
Barry, covers the progression of the Spanish influenza, especially in the United States. Barry focuses
not only on the influenza itself, though, but also on the social influences that allowed the virus to
flourish. The book covers how medical practices in the United States had risen up just in time to
combat the virus, but, due to societal issues and the war, the doctors struggled in areas where they
should have been successful. Although medicine today is comparatively more advanced, that is a more
recent change than one would like to think. For instance, not even 150 years ago, Hippocrates and
Galen would have recognized and largely agreed with most medical practices. Barry addresses this
topic of medical advancement at the beginning of his book by producing a well researched, albeit a
little too long, history of western medicine. He provides examples of how medicine evolved from the
teachings of Hippocrates, Galen, and Vesalius to a more modern form of medicine. This was done in
order to explain how prepared the medical community was in the face of this impending virus. Unlike
the other epidemics, the people of the early 19 century should have been prepared to face the influenza
with all of their exciting and new medical equipment and practices, but there was something in their
way of advancement universities. While this new group of medical warriors, as

Peteetneet Schoolhouse Museum Analysis
When the opportunity to attend the local Peteetneet Schoolhouse Museum transpired, many historical
facts would be discovered. Upon arrival the large two story stone building resembled something from
a pioneer movie. The museum guide quickly came to escort myself through the exhibit and shared her
mass amount of information. The historical building housed the information of local Mormon settlers
and the steady cultural clash between the Ute, Paiute and Navajo Indians. Along with interesting
information and artifacts, the museum brought to life the struggles of early settler s. Ms. Colleen
Wilson, told of her personal involvement in the restoration of the building that she once attended for

through the museum and see multiple acts of violence between the various groups, an issue that is not
completely resolved to this day. In 1972 the College University of Utah, announced its mascot as the
Ute viewing it as a tribute to the local natives. Many of the Ute Indians do not appreciate the mascot
and find it demeaning and embarrassing. The constant conflict between natives and settlers has and
will be an ongoing contest. A new sensitivity of consideration has appeared for those native to Utah
and leaves a deeper sense of compassion for them. The museum had many more items of interest,
including a writing room with oil lamps from 1000 B.C. to the first electric lamp of 1879. A fashion
room held clothing trends from 1910 to the 1970 s. A room was also preserved to provide spectators a
look at an original classroom. The two hour visit to Peteetneet Museum was both enjoyable and
educational, the guide bursting with stories and information. It was impossible to leave without a love

Saving Private Ryan Critique
Valory and venturesomeness in the spirit of brotherhood
The visual and the realistic arts in Spielberg s best ever
The critics all over the world with their holistic approach endeavor to find the pros and cons of a 3
hour classic masterpiece directed and created by the gods of the theatrical arts. The modern world
tends to be sufficed by the major events and their results in History but no one understands that texts
are just one form of expression. As actions speak louder than words, Steven Spielberg in his 1998
realistic and heart pounding Saving Private Ryan portrayed the most deadly and the biggest invasion
campaign in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Spielberg s realism acts here as an evidence to the genuine war situation as history cannot be trusted
through words but can only be trusted and felt through visuals. The plot of the movie is first set in a
boat as forty men reach a shore and are exterminated in a matter of seconds which shows the intent to
create a psychological effect on the minds of their audiences. Other monumental scenes are when
Private Caparzo takes charge of a German girl from a German family in order to protect her. Scenes
like these are illustrated to depict the intervensionalist side of US for a paternalistic cause similar to
their control of Philippines. Spielberg s idea of risking lives of eight men for one man has overturned
the idea of social Darwinism. As social Darwinism promotes the idea of survival of the fittest that
same idea is applied here as, Private Ryan s survival in the war should be dependent on his fitness but
instead the fitness of eight men are put on the line for his survival.
However, putting our superficial analytical approach beside and using our holistic approach, its quite
evident that Spielberg tries to make this war look like all American as he ignored the contributions of
other nations in the D Day landing on the Omaha beach specifically. On the other hand, Spielberg s
best ever can also be criticized on the basis of

Orbital Parameters Of Earth And Mars
Question 5
It is assumed that Earth and Mars are in Circular orbits. The initial relative phase angle is stated to be
30o. Calculate the transfer orbit of a time of flight (TOF) 120 day. The orbital parameters such as ΔVs
must be calculated. In addition, the propulsion considerations must be evaluated for the case when
mission is to be Evaluate the orbital parameters, ΔVs and propulsion parameters when the mission is
to be executed by a 500 kg spacecraft, which utilizes 450 s specific impulse propellant.
Assumptions:
Orbits are coplanar. Initial position of earth is taken as reference direction and epoch of the mission
Data:
2The total Time period of Earth = 365 days
1Hence, the time period of Mars = 365 x 1.881 = 686.565 days
3Distance of Earth from Sun = 149.5 x 106 kilometers
4Distance of Mars from Sun = 227.8 x 106 kilometers
5Initial position of planets: 7After 120 days position of planets:
8Change in position of Earth = 120/365 = 0.32876 = 32.876% of the complete orbit.
Change in angular position of Earth = 0.32876 x 360o = 118.356o
Final position of Earth with reference direction = 118.356 + 0 = 118.356o
Change in position of Mars = 120/686.56 = 0.17478 = 17.478% 0f the complete orbit.
Change in angular position of Mars = 0.17478 x 360o = 62.9219o
Final position of Mars with reference direction = 62.9219 + 30 = 92.9219o Transfer ellipse:

The Theories Of Eating Disorders
Most people have tried various diets to lose weight or wished for our body shape to change. For most
people, diets will only work for the short term and as we age we tend to put on more weight. For
individuals who are fixated on losing weight or changing their body shape; can lead to an eating
disorder. Eating disorders (ED) have been defined as syndromes characterised by significant
disturbances in eating behaviour and by distress or excessive concern about body shape or weight.
Eating disorders that are most common are anorexia nervosa (AN) and bulimia nervosa (BN). AN

A dysfunction family was defined as the characteristics of anorexic families as being enmeshed,
overprotective, rigid and conflict avoidant (Minuchin et al (1978). This has led to family therapists
suggesting that adolescents may develop an ED to gain independence in their family life and hope that
it will unite their family instead of conflict. Oppenheimer et al (1985) has suggested that the onset of
an ED may be as a result of sexual abuse in an individual s past. This model suggests that an ED
develops as a result of a woman rejecting her new body shape in puberty, as she attempts to avoid the
feminine shape. Although, sexual abuse for the onset of an ED doesn t have strong evidence; although
sexual abuse been disclosed by many sufferers. In conclusion, this essay has looked at research for the
onset of an ED from a biological, socio cultural and psychological viewpoint. The evidence available,
even though it is not conclusive, suggests that an ED can be triggered in several ways. An ED may be
triggered by only biological; but could be triggered by the other two variables of socio cultural and

The scientific method is a process for experimentation used to explore observations and answer
questions. It is used unconsciously by many on a daily basis and understanding how to apply the
method can be valuable in making decisions and solving problems. For this assignment, I have chosen
to use the scientific method to demonstrate how to organize my cluttered apartment to fit two storage
units thus eliminating two bills and lowering my debt.
First I will ask a question or make an observation such as how will I fit two storage units into my
small apartment ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I would then test my hypothesis again and realize I can accept it. Finally, a conclusion must be
reached to wrap up the scientific method. By following the steps, I find that I would be able to fill my
apartment much better, save or make money, and make numerous donations. I also found that these
moves could be done much faster if I had help, so informing friends and family of my decision would
also work. For an even smoother outcome, I would have to be sure that all the materials I would need
were readily available. I would need paper and pens, a camera, and measuring tape for the initial part
of my experiment. I would have to make a list of places to donate to and make sure they are able to
give me receipts for tax purposes. There are also those in need that could use some of the extra items I
have to make it through the upcoming winter. Making a schedule of my availability helps ensure I
have enough time to focus on this project without running into other schedules. Adding a deadline and
some goals can help motivate one to stay on task so as not to push the project to the side and increase
debt.
The scientific method can easily be used in everyday life and in some instances is required in order to
get thru the day successfully. I would guess that we are taught throughout our lives to perfect such
methods and we became so used to the perfection that we can now apply the method without laying
out the steps but it helps to write them down to

Does Harper Lee Present The Prejudicial Issues In To Kill...
Harper Lee s To kill a Mockingbird explores the prejudicial issues which plague over the town
Maycomb. Harper Lee uses the trial of Tom Robinson a black man accused of rape on a young white
girl, Mayella as a central theme to portray the prominence of racial discrimination in Maycomb. The
racial prejudice is also widely shown through the characterisation of Atticus. Having Scout as the
narrator allows Harper Lee to highlight the gender inequity through a youthful unbiased perspective.
The chauvinistic attitudes and prejudiced views of most of the town s folk leaves Maycombs social
hierarchy in an unfair order, victimising many of the town s people due to their socially non

Harper Lee demonstrates the gender inequity In to Kill a Mockingbird through the description and
words of the female narrator, Scout. The prejudice of Maycomb is shown so clearly, even an innocent
child like Scout can see the raging extent of gender prejudice that surrounds her. Scout having traits
that are more masculine in quality automatically makes her an outcast and disliked by Maycomb s
many conforming ideals. Scouts innocence allows the novel to develop through an unbiased
perspective. Women had little to serve in juries and there was the constant expectation all women had
to act and dress like a Lady. Aunt Alexandra an evident example of having strong beliefs on how
separate genders should behave, constantly scolding Scout for wearing her overalls and behaving too
tomboyish. I was not so sure, but Jem told me i was being a girl, that girls always imagined things,
thats why other people hated them so, and if i started behaving like one i could just go off and find
some to play with. (4.119) Scout is raised to believe boys were better than girls, raised in a bigoted
and heavily bias community, scout finds it a difficult and unfair experience trying to understand the
unjust perceptions of the adults around her. Having Scout narrate the whole novel allows Harper lee to
highlight the gender inequity in Maycomb.
Harper lee demonstrates the social inequity through Boo characterisation and Maycombs peoples rigid
behaviours and socially discriminating codes.

The Role Of Government In An Autocratic Government
In an autocracy government, power is ruled by one person and the leader has an absolute authority
over politics and business sectors. If businessmen invest their money in any business, the head of the
government must be satisfied, who is the autocratic leader, otherwise it would be no way to survive.
Unfortunately, today some parts of the world still struggling having autocratic leaders and their people
are in turmoil in terms of investing because there is not a stable government. However, some argue
that autocratic governments are stable environments for business because since one person has the
control and the leader might not get involved for levying mass taxes on businesses or monopolizing

Descriptive Essay On The Ocean City
If you ever find yourself in ocean city Maryland, you may be overwhelmed by the different types of
people on the beach. The time of day you are the beach changes the entire experience itself. It can
switch from a relaxing day soaking up the sun to virtually being in the middle of a beach brawl. The
craziness of ocean city never appears to end.
After traveling for 3 hours, my family arrived at our beach house in Ocean City Maryland. After
making a quick trip for groceries, we decided to go to bed and set alarm clocks for early in the
morning. After a good nights sleep, I woke up to the pleasant smell of bacon and eggs. After feasting
on a delightful breakfast, my brothers and I began to get ready for the beach. We went down the
creaky wooden stairs of our beach house and unlocked the storage room located beneath the home. I
decided to carry both of the floral umbrellas while my brothers took the portable beach chairs. After
grabbing all of our gear, we headed back up the weathered stairs and towards the distant sand dunes.
As we approached the entrance of the sand dunes, the satisfying sounds of the ocean s waves started to
become closer and closer. Once we traveled closer, the vivid orange sun began to ascend from the
deep sea. At this early point in the morning, the sand walkway enclosed by dunes, hadn t heated up
from the sun, so the sand had a soothing feeling of cool sand between each toe. Upon reaching the
shore, we noticed that not many beachgoers had set up their

Character Analysis Of The Pit And The Pendulum
The Pit and the Pendulum Character Analysis Essay Edgar Allen Poe s The Pit and the Pendulum uses
horror and suspicion to build up not only the storyline, but the persona of the narrator in which is also
the prisoner. The characteristics of the prisoner ties within the story to create trippy feelings of fear
and unassertiveness of whether or not he is truly safe. From the trials that the prisoner has faced, his
characteristic of resourcefulness, pessimistic, and terror are revealed and play a salient part of his slick
escape. The prisoner exemplifies resourcefulness which is shown through his actions of survival.
Despite his unstableness, he still manages to remain clever in such a frightening situation. Poe asserts
that the prisoner is resourceful considering he uses the hem of his robe to plot out his area: I tore a part
of the hem from the robe, and placed the fragment at full length, and at right angles to the wall. In
groping my way around the prison, I could not fail to encounter this rag upon completing the circuit.
(Poe 3). Being that he uses his resources to find his way around the tomb, he learns that he is among a
treacherous pit which could mean death. This action alters the whole course of the story due to the
possibility of the prisoner falling into the pit. The prisoner continues to show signs of resourcefulness
in the toughest situations: Observing that I remained without motion, one or two of the boldest leaped
upon the frame work and smelt at the surcingle. This seemed the signal for a general rush. Forth from
the well they hurried in fresh troops. They clung to the wood, they overran it, and leaped in hundreds
upon my person. (Poe 8). Using the rats as a pathway to his freedom from the pendulum, his quick
thinking saved his life. With that being said, the prisoner uses his traits of resourcefulness to escape
without letting fear block his tactics. Poe reveals the prisoners aspect of showing pessimistic traits
through his thoughts of seeing the worst outcome of events. The prisoner states, It was not that I
feared to look upon things horrible, but that I grew aghast lest there should be NOTHING to see. At
length, with a wild desperation at heart, I quickly unclosed my

Why The Uk Should Join The Eurozone
A question reviewed on numerous occasions, weather the UK should join the Eurozone, considering
what a currency union intakes, the benefits and costs, a judgment can be entailed weather the
Eurozone would be a valid investment for an economy such as the UK. Exchange rate, capital risk,
interest rates or any monetary policy and fiscal policies, shall be taken in to account when formation a
judgment to weather the UK should become a member of the Eurozone. The heart of this case is
revolved around interest rates and to whether it shall cause a great impact on the financial sector of the
economy, as the UK largest revenue resource is from there banking sector.
A currency union is where more than two economies share the same currency, without having any
additional economic and monetary union, in which resulting in a single market and custom union.
The Eurozone is the economic region formed by those member countries of the European Union that
have adopted the euro. (Perry, S. 1994).
Optimum currency union is a theory published by Mundell in 1961, the theory is used to debate is a
certain area has the requirements to become a currency union, one of the final stages in economic

How Charles Dickens’ Life Influenced Oliver Twist Essays
How Charles Dickens Life Influenced Oliver Twist
The range of his creative activity is, in the first place, limited to the world of his youth (Cecil 169).
This quote explains many people. What has previously happened to a person has a tremendous impact
on them. It can affect their decisions, emotions, and life. The life of a person can sometimes be seen
quite easily through what they do. Artists often reveal what their life has been like through the works
that they create. The same can be said about writers. Events in authors past often show up in his
works. The above quote is, in fact, made in regard to Charles Dickens.

Eventually, they saved him from the factory. Charles grew up and put himself through the education
he could manage to find. He got a job as a lawyer s apprentice, and then he worked as a parliamentary
reporter. Dickens began to do some freelance writings for several magazines. He eventually became
the editor of a magazine and an author of his own novels.
Throughout Dickens journey through life, the poor laws of Great Britain were closely intertwined. The
first major impact that his childhood experiences had on him was his exposure to the factory system.
The Industrial Revolution created large urban areas with a central factory that employed most of the
area s people. The factory was full of lower class people in unsanitary conditions. In the days of
Dickens factory experience the old poor laws were in effect. This helped Dickens situation greatly. His
father lived in a fairly nice and sanitary prison, and was given time to find the money he owed. The
old poor law system of giving aid to the poor helped to save the Dickens family. When Dickens grew
up and was a parliamentary reporter, the new poor laws were about to be passed. Dickens realized that
the new poor laws would bring doom to many families. The new poor laws did not help the poor but
worsened their condition in order to drive them to work.

Rape Culture And Its Effect On Society
The term rape culture was coined by feminists in the United States in 1970. The term itself was
designed to illustrate the ways in which society blamed victims of sexual assault, and how the
normalization of male sexual violence was acceptable. Rape culture can stem from the acceptance of
rape as a daily occurrence, manifested as a male prerogative. There is a hesitation by the authorities to
go against the patriarchal cultural norms, hence linking nonconsensual sex to the cultural disposition
of society. The patriarchal perspective of rape culture, embedded with gender inequality and misogyny
are passed through generations which ultimately leads to the extensive institutional and social
acceptance of rape. Actions which advocate sexist ideals are utilized to justify and validate normative
misogynistic perceptions. Rape culture sexualizes violence inflicted upon women, as it serves as a
continuum of a society which views a women s body to be sexually available by default, deriving
from the overall domination and objectification of a female. The underlying cause of rape culture is
localized as it based upon the social aspects of culture. For example, countries with a prolific war
culture tend to emphasize violence and masculinity, and therefore rape is viewed as a normal facet of
society. I intend to parallel the element of rape culture to the enforcement of social rules and the
conditioning of gender roles. I plan on analyzing the notion that within the encompassment of

Persuasive Essay On Drinking In College
Miley Cyrus sings, Red cups and sweaty bodies everywhere, hands in the air like we don t care, cause
we came to have so much fun now. (as cited in Davis et al, 2013). As such an influential role model
for many college students, Miley promotes carless drinking in her hit song We Can t Stop . The rates
of students who drink in college are very high and are leading to further problems. As found on
College Drinking Prevention.gov, According to the 2015 NSDUH, 58.0 percent of full time college
students ages 18 22 drank alcohol in the past month compared with 48.2 percent of other persons of
the same age (par. 1). College drinking in the United States is leading to an increase in alcohol related
deaths, suicides, and academic issues. To decrease the rate of unhealthy college drinking in the United
States, the legal drinking age should either be lowered, or the professors in the colleges and
universities should make their students workloads heavier.
Unhealthy and irresponsible drinking taking place by college students is causing further issues in their
lives. According to the National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism, the use of alcohol in a
campus setting is a ritual that the students consider an initiation to the start of their college careers.
(par. 2). College drinking leads to other health and social problems including deaths, suicides,
academic issues, drug use. Studies by the National Council on Alcoholism and Drug Dependence
(2015) show that each year, more than 600,000 students between the ages of 18 and 24 are assaulted
by another student who has been drinking, 95% of all violent crime on college campuses involves the
use of alcohol by the assailant, victim or both, and 90% of acquaintance rape and sexual assault on
college campuses involves the use of alcohol by the assailant, victim or both. (Par. 16). College
students, especially the ones consuming alcohol, are the main stakeholders in this situation. Whether
they are participating in the use of alcohol or not, it still affects them one way or another. Friends and
family members are affected because if something happens to their loved one using alcohol they will
be directly affected. Possible outcomes of careless drinking include car

Not Belonging In Shakespeare s As You Like It
To belong is to have an affinity to a place or person. In this way, not belonging may be even more
important than belonging as often individuals must be alienated in order to truly accept and understand
their own identity. Such a notion is explored within the Shakespearean play, As you Like it, written in
1603. The text clearly illustrates the way in which not belonging to people, place and society is even
more important that belonging as it allows an individual to gain a heightened understanding of the
value of belonging and identity. Not belonging to people can lead individuals to gain a deeper
understanding of the value of belonging. As seen in As You Like it, several characters are forced to
experience alienation in order to understand ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This idea is evident in the play as several characters who are isolated from The Court are able to
deepen their understanding of identity. Shakespeare uses the character of Duke Senior to illustrate
such an idea. The Duke is banished from the court by his younger brother and placed into exile in the
Forest of Arden. It is through this displacement into the natural world and his experiences in tongues
in trees, sermons in stones, books in running brooks and good in everything , that the Duke is able to
truly develop his identity. The personification of nature as the teacher implies that the Duke has been
taught about a new sense of identity. This demonstrates that the Duke s alienation from the court has
allowed him to become a part of the natural world and in turn enrich his own identity and sense of
self. In a similar way, the character of Jaques is able to deepen his understanding about the values of
belonging through his alienation from the court. However, this alienation is by choice not force. As the
rest of the group prepare for marriage with dance and food, Jaques chooses not to return to the court
believing he is for other than for dancing measures . This juxtaposition of behaviour illustrates to the
audience the deeper meaning Jaques is determined to find not only in himself but in a world away
from the court. Not belonging has allowed Jaques to understand the truth about the court of painted
pomp . The use of the alliteration highlights to the audience the realisation that Jaques has come to

Bilingualism In Richard Rodriguez s Hunger Of Memory
I was 13 years old the first time I traveled to the Czech Republic to visit some family. My family there
spoke very little (if not any) english, so I always wondered the fun of communicating with them by
speaking Czech. I told myself on the plane ride back to the US that I would learn Czech in order to
talk with my family the next time. The second time I went to Europe, we not only went to the Czech
Republic, but to Italy, Switzerland, Austria, Germany, and Poland. I was so excited to use the little bit
of Czech I learned; not to mention, I was excited to hear all the different languages. By the time I
came back to Europe, most street signs had English subtitles, as well as most food products. My
family even knew fluent English! The memory ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Academic research displays that, students who are bilingual have advantages, not only in their literacy
development, but in the development of problem solving skills and other areas of cognition (US
Department of Education). Since learning and using more than one language is beneficial to students,
couldn t it be beneficial to everyone? A simple Spanish menu in every English restaurant could make
an impact on anyone in the daily public. For those like Rodriguez, I think learning more than one
language should not feel forceful nor fearful, but an optional opportunity for more knowledge in
another culture and identity. Personally, I felt less fear and pressure to learn czech when I saw the
English subtitles. The subtitles helped me understand the Czech language more when I compared it to
my own English language. However, I forgot most of my Czech language within a few months in US.
The US simply does not hold many opportunities to retain other

U.s. Foreign Policies During The Arab Spring
Review of U.S. Foreign Policies to Egypt after the Arab Spring
Our initial response to the 2011 revolution was appropriate. You suggested Mubarak to resign and
declared U.S. support for the revolutionists. The decision reversed our long time Middle East policy
favoring stability over democracy, but it served our national interest. It forestalled a Syria style civil
war as we dissuaded the Egyptian Army from suppression. Such a war can jeopardize our use of the
Suez Canal as a crucial route to deploy our naval forces.
Unfortunately, our subsequent policies only undermined the stability in Egypt and our influence in this
area. We have used the International Monetary Fund (IMF) loans to persuade both the SCAF and
President Morsi to accelerate their political and economic reform. However, this project was not
accepted by the Egyptian leaders who were reluctant to initiate political reforms that may undermine
their domestic support and increase their national debt. The delay of IMF aid weakened the Egyptians
power to stabilize its rickety economy and pacify its poor civilians. Consequently, the Egyptian
leaders sought alternative sources of funding from Libya and the Gulf States, which decreased our
voice in the politics of Egypt.
When President Morsi was abdicated in the 2013 coup d état by the military, the U.S. took an
ambiguous policy. You condemned the coup and demanded the power to be returned to democratically
elected leaders. To materialize your criticism, we

Hillary Clinton Women s Rights Are Human Rights Speech...
In the past, women didn t have as many rights as men. They were seen as men s possessions who were
only allowed to cook, clean, and make babies. Women weren t allowed as many privileges as men
such as voting. But as the years went by, changes were made. Women were granted many of the same
privileges as men, but they were still being mistreated in some perspectives. On September 5, 1995 in
Beijing, China, Hillary Clinton delivered a speech about this issue at the United Nations Fourth World
Conference for Women in front of 180 countries. Her speech was called Women s Rights are Human
Rights . She gave this speech to express her concern over the mistreatment women have been facing.
Clinton directed her speech to governments and other organizations to argue why they need to help
improve women s rights. Clinton uses ethos, pathos, and logos to persuade her audience that women
should be treated equally. Clinton uses ethos in her speech to persuade her audience by showing them
your credibility. Ethos is an effective way to persuade an audience. This helps to show the audience
that the speaker knows what they re talking about. As First Lady and Senator, Clinton shows she has
credibility on the topic by saying Over the past 25 years, I have worked persistently on issues relating
to women, children, and families. Over the past two and a half years. I ve has the opportunity to learn
more about the challenges facing women in my own country and around the world (Clinton 2).

Lenders And Credit Loans Online Payday Loans
Lenders who offer bad credit loans, including online payday loans, personal installment loans and auto
title loans, have come under increasing attack in recent years. The Consumer Financial Protection
Bureau, or CFPB, has been the most vocal critic of these lenders. The CFPB published its proposed
regulations for short term, small dollar loans in June 2016. Included in the 1,341 pages of new rules
and explanations is a section that deals specifically with lenders who offer online payday loans.
Despite the pending proposed regulations and the criticism leveled at the lenders, however, the
number of borrowers seeking an online payday loan continues to increase.
Why Payday Loans Online Continue to Increase Despite Criticism of the Industry
In recent years, many states and municipalities have passed laws that have made it difficult or
impossible for payday lenders to operate a traditional storefront. However, as multiple witnesses
pointed out during testimony before the U.S. House of Representatives Committee on Financial
Services, outlawing a product is not the same as eliminating the demand for the product. In simple
terms, people want the ability to borrow small amounts of money when they need to handle a financial
emergency, and if they cannot deal with a lender who has a store, they will turn to a lender who offers
online payday loans.
However, there are other reasons for the increasing number of people looking for an online payday
loan. Unlike stores, websites are open

The poem is an apology to her parents.
In the first two stanzas, she is talking directly to her parents. The speaker is apologizing to her parents
for the work that she placed out and saying she is sorry for not doing better than what she had just
done. I apologize/ for disappointing you. is her saying she is sorry. She also said three lines over and
over again, which were not good enough , not pretty enough , and not smart enough . Those three
things made her not feel she was good enough and it psyched her bad enough to not continue with life.
At the end of the second stanza, she says in my father s dream which automatically shows that she is
doing it for her family. She was given an opportunity to bring more honor to her family by going to
college and graduating it, but sadly she was not able to get that far. She thinks that she brought
dishonor to her family by not being able to keep her perfect four point grade average. It is not easy at
all to keep it there so she must have done a great job to get that far, but not even that was able to

The Book of Jonah Essay
It is thought that Jonah, the fifth of the Minor Prophets, lived during the reign of Jeroboam II, when
the kingdom was divided. (Lockyer, 198) Although the Book of Jonah is quite short, just two and one
half pages, it is not short on themes. Because there are so many themes it is hard to classify or to
determine its primary message. (Anchor 936 and New Interpreter s 490) These themes range from
running away, praying, second chances, anger, and God s compassion and mercy, to name a few. The
following will provide a brief explanation of each theme, previously mention, as it relates to the Book
of Jonah.
The first theme, running away and its consequences can be found in Chapter 1:1 2:1. Jonah is called
by God to go to Nineveh and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Verse 5 states that each sailor cried to his god, which tells the reader that the sailors were pagans;
therefore, the later interpretation is more likely. (New Interpreter s 496) The sailors cast lots to see
whose fault it is for this situation. Using chance to find the perpetrator insinuates that it took divine
intervention to single out Jonah. (New Interpreter s 498) The sailors ask Jonah who he was and where
did he come from and Jonah s answer was I am a Hebrew. He also stated I worship the Lord, the God
of heaven who made the sea and the dry land. The sailors believe that Jonah has brought the storm to
them and asks What have you done? and What shall we do with you? (New American 1011) Feeling
the weight of his guilt of running away from God, Jonah tells the sailors to throw him overboard. They
comply unwillingly. Now the Lord still had a mission for Jonah and so he sent a large fish to swallow
him up, which is where he stayed for three days and three nights. Certainly, the safest and simplest
thing Jonah could have done would have been to go to Nineveh and preach against the city; therefore,
running away is never a better answer.
The second theme, prayer, occupies the majority of Chapter 2, specifically verses 3 10, the Psalm of
Thanksgiving . This is thought to have been a later addition to the story, due to the fact that Jonah had
not been saved yet. (Anchor 939) However,

Argument Of Desire Satisfactionism
In this essay, I will argue for Restricted Actual Desire Satisfactionism as the best argument for the
theory. My argument proceeds in 4 sections: In the first section, I will articulate Lukas argument for
self regarding restriction and why idealized restriction does not work well. In the second section, I will
show that Lukas argument for self regarding restriction is not the best form of argument for Desire
Satisfactionism, for the restriction that only desires which are relevant to well being are counted can
encompass irrelevant desires as well. In the third section, I will offer a response on Lukas behalf.
Finally, in the fourth section, I conclude that this rejoinder is unsuccessful. According to Desire
Satisfactionism, one s well being ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Drawing from Kagan s benefit argument, I agree with him that the things that increase one s well
being must make positive changes to one s mind and body. The crucial point for a theory of well being
is to understand from individual being s point of view how one well being is increased. If we study
how can one s well being be increased through one s life, this is akin to looking only at the outside and
failing to understand that if the internal cease to exist, there would be no external. Thus, the proper
object of the theory of well being should be the person. Following from the argument of Restricted
Actual Desire Satisfactionism, it seems to exclude too much as it cannot account for the case of why
people would intensely desire for the team they support to win. One can bite the bullet and conclude
that instead of no increase in well being at all, there is a slight increase. Instead of person and his life
being separated in different spheres, one should see the person in the center and slowly extending to
life being the outer circle. What would concern the person would have high amounts of increase or
decrease in the well being, and what would concern the life would have little increase or decrease in

The Season Of The Nhl Hockey Season
The entire 2004 2005 NHL Hockey season was on ice, cancelled due to a lockout announced by
Commissioner Gary Bettman because the players union would not accept any proposal that included a
salary cap during contract negotiations. Could the cancelled season have been prevented? Would there
be an agreement for the 2005 2006 NHL season and beyond? If both sides in the negotiations could
not reach an agreement and salvage the season, how must the two parties overcome the barriers
(Trotschel, Loschelder, Huffmeier, Schwartz, Gollwitzer, 2011) to end the lockout? A thorough
analysis of the terms, barriers and powers delineated throughout the negotiation process will show that
a more effective negotiation process would have prevented the cancellation of the 2004 2005 NHL
Hockey season.
On September 15, 2004, Gary Bettman, representing the interests of the league and team owners,
announced that the NHL players were being locked out from participating in the upcoming hockey
season (Malhotra Hout, 2006). Gary Bettman was authorized and empowered by the team owners to
declare such a decision in the event the two parties could not come to a contract agreement during
negotiations. Bob Goodenow, executive director of the players union, led negotiations on behalf of the
players. Though many issues were addressed in negotiations, the primary issue was over salary cap.
The owners insisted on a cap on salaries and the players refused to accept any agreement that included
a cap.

Comparing Satire In A Modest Proposal And The Daily Show
In A Modest Proposal, by Jonathan Swift, and the television program The Daily Show, the methods of
satire are used. Both of these works use humor to get their idea across to their audience. However,
their purpose and impacts have different effects. The style in A Modest Proposal attempts to fix the
circumstances is in reality a grotesque way of fixing the problem at hand. A young healthy child well
nursed is... a most delicious nourishing and wholesome food.... Swift begins his proposal by
suggesting the children should be given another use, or rather; have them help the rest of their country
by contributing during these difficult times. However, later on in his proposal, it is evident he does not
want to offer a way for children to help, but

Toyota Motor Corporation is one such stock that as a finance manager I would recommend to buy and

Undocumented Immigrants Should Be Legal
America is a nation of immigration but America also faces the problem of illegal immigration. In
America the debate of whether undocumented immigrants should be able to get full amnesty is still a
controversy. Even though illegal immigrants did make an illicit action, many see the United States as
an opportunity for a better future. In addition, undocumented immigrants should be granted citizenship
because it will benefit the United States. Creating an amnesty for the students will help the United
States by improving the economy, create more jobs and decrease deportation.
Granting citizenship to illegal immigrants will benefit the United States in the economy. Legalizing
immigrants will help them earn more money than they already do. This means that immigrants will
pay more taxes and consume more. When people start consuming more goods there is a higher
demand, necessitating more jobs. Authorizing immigrants will allow them to pay federal taxes and
state tax. Many immigrants already pay taxes only 30 to 50 percent of immigrants don t report taxes.
According to the Center for American Progress, immigrants don t report taxes, because they fear to get
discovered and deported (Lynch, 2013). Passing the reform will increase tax profit to $116 billion in
federal and $68 billion in state and local taxes (Lynch, 2013). Increasing tax profit will benefit
citizenship because taxes will decrease on each individual. Creating an amnesty for immigration will

Blood Clotting And Human Life
Physiology is the study of how body of living things function. There are many issues in this topic but
the issue of blood clotting is a unique area of study. Blood clotting is also known as blood coagulation
and it has two definitions which vary because of its occurrences. Blood clotting is first defined as
natural sealing of an injured part of the body by blood for the purpose of preventing blood loss. The
second meaning of blood is concentration of blood in one part of the body like in lungs or veins. Many
researchers and physician concentrate more on veins clotting (inner clotting) of blood because it is a
threat to lives of many people. However, the paper will explore the two types of blood clotting and
come up with a conclusion on how the two types of blood clotting occur and how they are threat to
human life. The general objective of the paper is to research on the whole concept of physiology blood
clotting in human beings.
Research questions Some of the research questions are as follows;
How do the two types of blood clotting occur?
How is veins blood coagulation a threat to human life?
What is the difference between outer blood clotting and veins blood clotting?
Is there treatment for blood clotting?
How is outer blood clotting a benefit?
Literature review Researchers and scholars have written more on this topic and they have expressed
different views on both types of blood clotting. Physicians argue that body outer blood clotting which

Social Work Reflection Paper
During my time at my practicum, I have not experienced any practice related ethical dilemmas. In
fact, as I am writing this, I have only been on the phones once since I just recently completed training.
For this assignment, I am going to use a hypothetical dilemma based on things I have witnessed
during my observation shifts, my knowledge of Headquarters Counseling Center, and my role as a
social work intern. The emotional reactions I discuss will be true of how I feel while imaging the
situation. At Headquarters, our primary focus is suicide prevention. As a social work intern, I see what
the agency does at many different levels. Answering the phones, though, is just beginning for me.
Counseling on the hotline will be my main job at my internship, so I will be discussing a dilemma
based on the phone counseling portion of my work. This is actually a situation I have thought about,
and I am worried about finding myself in, so I thought it would be good to work through it for this
assignment and hopefully feel more prepared when the time comes. When talking to suicidal others
(people who are calling us because they are concerned that someone else in their life is suicidal) on
the hotline, it is extremely important for us to assess the level of seriousness of the situation and
counsel the caller through the process as well. Often times, these callers want us to either call the
suicidal person for them, teach them the skills to help their friend/family member/etc. on their own, or
want us to call 911 to check on them. We reserve calling dispatch for when it is completely necessary.
However, what if it is necessary but the suicidal person refuses the help? The following is a specific
situation I have been thinking about and applying this ethical dilemma to. I receive a suicidal other
call from a woman in a different part of the state who is worried about a friend in Lawrence. The
friend has told her he is suicidal, that he plans to shoot himself in the head, and that he plans to do it
the same evening. She had not heard from her friend in several hours, since he told her about his plan,
and she is does not know of any friends or family he may have in town that could check on him.

Chaos in Ukraine
War, chaos, depression, and corruption are some of the words to describe the chaos in Ukraine. Since
the 3 billion Eurobond lent to Ukraine by Russia weren t paid off the money, revolution was sparked
within the citizens of Ukraine and slowly erupting into something many people fear will start another
catastrophic event in Europe. Even with the strong support of NATO, the North Atlantic Treaty

and the citizens are divided in half, the east and west, one side wanting to merge with Russia and the
other wanting to merge with E.U.. And with Russia already annexing Crimea, which is located below
Ukraine and Russia has tens of thousands troops lined up on the border and NATO not knowing what
they should do, Ukraine is up in flames. Also with the president of Ukraine Yanokovych leaving and
rejecting office unofficially to escape, leaving the balance of Ukraine in the hand of new president
Oleksandr Twrchynov in charge of the disaster of what is now leading to an official civil war. The
question is who is going to take action and when? NATO wanting to prevent a potential World War
really doesn t have any idea what they should do. And what does Russia even want from Ukraine?
E.U. is trying to do everything possible to not take action, but from news reporters perspectives, these

Blue Collar Brilliance And The Pursuit Of Happyness
Everyone has a dream, but not everyone has the courage to pursue their dream because of the fear of
failing. Blue Collar Brilliance by Mike Rose and The Pursuit of Happyness directed by Gabriele
Muccino discusses where dedication takes a person in life. In the article of Blue Collar Brilliance
Rose, discusses the life of two successful individuals who have no education but are very dedicated to
their work. The Pursuit of Happyness discuss the life of a struggling man who is not able to support
his family, but never leaves the hope of one day becoming successful. Blue Collar Brilliance and The
Pursuit of Happyness share a common theme of, it does not matter whether a person has an education
or not; it takes a lot of dedication to succeed. Both authors claim that everyone can be successful in
their job as long as a person has patience and dedication. Composer Rose and Muccino both make an
effective argument about dedication to their audience by providing real life experiences of an
individual.
The similarities between Blue Collar Brilliance and The Pursuit of Happyness is to get their audience
to see what a person goes through in order to be where they are at now. Authors Rose and Muccino
have a very strong pathos by providing life experiences of individuals. The Pursuit of Happyness,
Muccino, begins the movie with Chris Gardner life being a slippery slope. Muccino shows all the

Tale Of Two Cities Symbolism Analysis
You might be thinking, What is Dickens s hint of magic. Well, in the book A Tale of Two Cities by
Charles Dickens, written in 1859, Dickens uses symbolism to give the readers a hint about what will
come later on in the story. Charles Dickens had written this book with the setting during the French
revolution. During this period in the book France was against its unequal hierarchy; mostly stated by
the peasants who couldn t earn money and poor who hated the rich because they thought the rule of
being born into a class was unfair. The Revolution initially started when the Bastille, a prison where
Dr. Manette was first imprisoned by the Evremonde brothers because Manette could have spread the
word about their wrongdoings, was taken down. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Because this group lacks a right way to earn money, they try to do different jobs which could even be

occupation of being a resurrection man to earn extra money. One example of this is his rusty hands.
Cruncher s rusty hands get spotted by his son, and then little Jerry says, Always rusty! His fingers are
always rusty! muttered Young Jerry. Where does my father get all that iron rust from? He doesn t get
no iron rust here(Dickens 43)! Jerry s fingers do not actually have rust; they have sand and grime from
when he goes to dig up graves. Because he doesn t get it from his house, as young Jerry stated, it
indicates that he isn t honest and that he is doing all this behind his family s back. Dickens also uses
Jerry s muddy boots to foreshadow the scene where Jerry Cruncher s illegal money earning job is
exposed. As Jerry Cruncher wakes up to his wife praying, which he hates, he throws his muddy boot at
her, then the narrator says, After hailing the morn with this second salutation, he threw a boot at the
woman as a third. It was a very muddy boot, and may introduce the odd circumstance connected with
Mr. Cruncher s domestic economy, that, whereas he often came home after banking hours with clean
boots, he often got up next morning to find the

Home Depot Research Paper
While not at the beach or on vacation, summer can be a great time to get a little work done around the
house. Whether you are improving property value or just making your house a home, there is a lot to
be done. When it comes to the nicer weather, most common improvements happen to the exterior of
the home. You can improve the interior at any time, but the exterior can only be done in the right
weather. This is the main reason that as soon as the snow melts, most people start to fix up the outside.
Not only does the spring weather make you want to be outside, but it also inspires many of us to start
fixing the things that others see. Since exterior appearances are important to many of us and the fact
that we value what others think about us, we put a lot into the exterior of our homes. ... Show more

There are many reasons to fix up the exterior of your home. No matter what your reasons are, spring
and summer are the times to get the outside of your home in top shape. In a recent trip to the Home
Depot (mainly to get ideas on what to write about for this site), I started trying to find out what some
of the top summer projects are by asking the employees and contractors in the area. Here is a list of
the five most common summer fix ups they see on a regular basis. Decks and Patios One of the top all
time summer projects is a new deck or patio. When it gets to be summer time, people think of
barbeques and outdoor parties. Whether they are just family get togethers or block parties with friends,
neighbors, or coworkers, these bring about the desire to build a bigger and better deck. This is a fairly
simple project that requires more time and effort than

Year of Wonders by Geraldine Brooks Essay
The premise of the novel (Year of Wonders) could be seen as the antithesis of a journey as the
villagers voluntarily agree to undertake a quarantine, which means they literally cannot go anywhere.
In what way does this text represent a journey?
Though the characters in Year of Wonders are unable to take a physical journey due to their actions,
their circumstances cause them to embark on many spiritual, mental and emotional journeys through
the course of the novel. Anna Frith, for instance, is forced during the plague year to overcome the
deaths of her sons and family, and take upon many new roles that she otherwise would not have. The
text also takes the reader on an imaginative journey. With characters that show human failings and its

This is also shown through her learning of medicine under Elinor Mompellion, as the death and
suffering around her act as a catalyst for her to undertake these studies, so that she may fight the
plague in some way.
Anna also undertakes a spiritual journey over the course of the book. Her learning of the villages
Rector, Michael Mompellion s true thoughts near the novels end, as well as her realisations on the
nature of some of the other villagers causes her to question her Christian faith and its restrictions it
places on her in the society she lives in. This can be seen in her accepting view of the Muslim faith in
the epilogue.
Year of Wonders can also be seen as taking the reader on an imaginative journey. Through reading the
book we can imagine ourselves in the time at which the characters live, faced by their same decisions.
Geraldine Brooks has helped further this in a number of ways. The story is told in a first person
perspective, allowing the reader to understand Anna s feelings and attitudes. Period dialogue is used to
help transport the reader into the time and place in which the novel is set. Geraldine Brooks has paid
particular attention into giving the majority of the characters secret failings for instance, the Rectors
beliefs causing him to punish his wife, and Aphra, Anna s Mother s decline into madness and
superstition. This has the effect of making them seem more human

How Did The Rise Of Islam Influence Western Europe
The rise of Islam brought many important changes to Europe, both physically and culturally. Through
the many conquests of Muhammad and his successors, Muslim dominion, by the middle of the eighth
century, included all of the southern and eastern Mediterranean, as well as Spain. Spain would serve as
a point of invasion for Islamic forces into Western Europe and it would continue to serve as an Islamic
state up until 1492 when its last territory (Granada) fell to Christian forces. Muslim control of the
regions south and east of the Mediterranean led to their domination of the Mediterranean sea and all
the European trade that went on there. All of this contributed to a deep mistrust of Islam from
Europeans, which would make way for the persecutions

Ficciones, by Jorge Luis Borges Essay
In life it is necessary to have fantasy, because without it, life would be dull and meaningless. Life
would be so different without dreams, since they are what motivate humans to keep on moving
forward in order to achieve their goals. This is what Jorge Luis Borges is trying to explain to the
reader in the book Ficciones which is very confusing, but also very deep in meaning. These stories
demonstrate a theme of reality vs. fiction which is fascinating because in many of the readings fantasy
is required at some point to accomplish a purpose or goal. Each unique story hides a meaning in the
text which is a lesson to be learned. The confusion that is caused is similar to a labyrinth in which the
reader gets lost. The message is hidden ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Reality becomes so insignificant to even remember. Hladik, protagonist of The Secrete Miracle, is a
man bound to be persecuted on account of his ethnicity and political ideals. Similar to the United
States, a country where so many cultures and backgrounds are crammed together, where at one point
or another, the feeling of oppression or, at the very least, discrimination is sensed by many. Once the
reader understands that the protagonists is human, and suffers, cries, laughs, hungers, loves like them,
the bait is taken and comparison occurs between the readers real lives with the very realistic lives of
those in the stories. A man determined to accomplish, another locked away at a Nazi camp awaiting
execution the readers, wrapped in a comfortable cocoon. The events in the stories force the reader to
make a connection with the protagonist and with the experiences they are going through. In the
struggle to accomplish, the Nameless man, from that unknown country, whose language is untainted
by Greek, the reader is thrust into a realization of sorts. In the opening of the story the reader
comprehends that this man is supernatural since his wounds heal miraculously. He was not astonished
to find that his wounds had healed; he closed his pallid eyes and slept, not through weakness of flesh
but through determination of will, ( Ruins 57) The man is so determined to have a pupil, that he
conceives one out of his dream, slowly transitioning

  • 3. The Issue of Overfishing In contemporary society, human society is progressing rapidly on various fronts. Nevertheless at the same time, the problem of overfishing is becoming increasingly worrisome and attract extensive attention of the society. In this essay, I will address overfishing and propose some possible causes of this phenomenon which can give contribution to some solutions. Introduction This issue of overfishing covers vast fields, such as science, humanity, economy, society and nature. The term optimum , in regard to the yield from a fishery, is difficult to be defined, precisely and fixedly. Generally speaking, we can describe it as follows: (Niles E. Stople, January 2009, FishNet USA) Will provide maximum effectiveness benefit to the Nation, particularly in relation to food production and recreational opportunities, and giving consideration to the protection of marine ecosystems In case of an overfished fishery, provides for reconstructing to a level consistent with producing the maximum sustainable yield in such fishery Overfishing s status as the focus of public concern mainly results from its negligible but harmful influence on individuals, collective, and even the whole world. One of the world s significant fishery in the East China Sea is damage by overfishing and growing levels of contamination, recent research has shown, confirming the fear of fishermen and environmentalists. • 4. The Great Influenza By John M. Barry The book The Great Influenza: The Story of the Deadliest Pandemic in History, written by John M. Barry, covers the progression of the Spanish influenza, especially in the United States. Barry focuses not only on the influenza itself, though, but also on the social influences that allowed the virus to flourish. The book covers how medical practices in the United States had risen up just in time to combat the virus, but, due to societal issues and the war, the doctors struggled in areas where they should have been successful. Although medicine today is comparatively more advanced, that is a more recent change than one would like to think. For instance, not even 150 years ago, Hippocrates and Galen would have recognized and largely agreed with most medical practices. Barry addresses this topic of medical advancement at the beginning of his book by producing a well researched, albeit a little too long, history of western medicine. He provides examples of how medicine evolved from the teachings of Hippocrates, Galen, and Vesalius to a more modern form of medicine. This was done in order to explain how prepared the medical community was in the face of this impending virus. Unlike the other epidemics, the people of the early 19 century should have been prepared to face the influenza with all of their exciting and new medical equipment and practices, but there was something in their way of advancement universities. While this new group of medical warriors, as ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Spielberg s realism acts here as an evidence to the genuine war situation as history cannot be trusted through words but can only be trusted and felt through visuals. The plot of the movie is first set in a boat as forty men reach a shore and are exterminated in a matter of seconds which shows the intent to create a psychological effect on the minds of their audiences. Other monumental scenes are when Private Caparzo takes charge of a German girl from a German family in order to protect her. Scenes like these are illustrated to depict the intervensionalist side of US for a paternalistic cause similar to their control of Philippines. Spielberg s idea of risking lives of eight men for one man has overturned the idea of social Darwinism. As social Darwinism promotes the idea of survival of the fittest that same idea is applied here as, Private Ryan s survival in the war should be dependent on his fitness but instead the fitness of eight men are put on the line for his survival. However, putting our superficial analytical approach beside and using our holistic approach, its quite evident that Spielberg tries to make this war look like all American as he ignored the contributions of other nations in the D Day landing on the Omaha beach specifically. By following the steps, I find that I would be able to fill my apartment much better, save or make money, and make numerous donations. I also found that these moves could be done much faster if I had help, so informing friends and family of my decision would also work. For an even smoother outcome, I would have to be sure that all the materials I would need were readily available. I would need paper and pens, a camera, and measuring tape for the initial part of my experiment. I would have to make a list of places to donate to and make sure they are able to give me receipts for tax purposes. There are also those in need that could use some of the extra items I have to make it through the upcoming winter. Making a schedule of my availability helps ensure I have enough time to focus on this project without running into other schedules. Adding a deadline and some goals can help motivate one to stay on task so as not to push the project to the side and increase debt. The scientific method can easily be used in everyday life and in some instances is required in order to get thru the day successfully. I would guess that we are taught throughout our lives to perfect such methods and we became so used to the perfection that we can now apply the method without laying out the steps but it helps to write them down to ... • 13. Character Analysis Of The Pit And The Pendulum The Pit and the Pendulum Character Analysis Essay Edgar Allen Poe s The Pit and the Pendulum uses horror and suspicion to build up not only the storyline, but the persona of the narrator in which is also the prisoner. The characteristics of the prisoner ties within the story to create trippy feelings of fear and unassertiveness of whether or not he is truly safe. From the trials that the prisoner has faced, his characteristic of resourcefulness, pessimistic, and terror are revealed and play a salient part of his slick escape. The prisoner exemplifies resourcefulness which is shown through his actions of survival. Despite his unstableness, he still manages to remain clever in such a frightening situation. Poe asserts that the prisoner is resourceful considering he uses the hem of his robe to plot out his area: I tore a part of the hem from the robe, and placed the fragment at full length, and at right angles to the wall. In groping my way around the prison, I could not fail to encounter this rag upon completing the circuit. (Poe 3). Being that he uses his resources to find his way around the tomb, he learns that he is among a treacherous pit which could mean death. This action alters the whole course of the story due to the possibility of the prisoner falling into the pit. The prisoner continues to show signs of resourcefulness in the toughest situations: Observing that I remained without motion, one or two of the boldest leaped upon the frame work and smelt at the surcingle. This seemed the signal for a general rush. Forth from the well they hurried in fresh troops. They clung to the wood, they overran it, and leaped in hundreds upon my person. (Poe 8). Using the rats as a pathway to his freedom from the pendulum, his quick thinking saved his life. With that being said, the prisoner uses his traits of resourcefulness to escape without letting fear block his tactics. Poe reveals the prisoners aspect of showing pessimistic traits through his thoughts of seeing the worst outcome of events. The prisoner states, It was not that I feared to look upon things horrible, but that I grew aghast lest there should be NOTHING to see. • 17. Rape Culture And Its Effect On Society The term rape culture was coined by feminists in the United States in 1970. The term itself was designed to illustrate the ways in which society blamed victims of sexual assault, and how the normalization of male sexual violence was acceptable. Rape culture can stem from the acceptance of rape as a daily occurrence, manifested as a male prerogative. There is a hesitation by the authorities to go against the patriarchal cultural norms, hence linking nonconsensual sex to the cultural disposition of society. The patriarchal perspective of rape culture, embedded with gender inequality and misogyny are passed through generations which ultimately leads to the extensive institutional and social acceptance of rape. Actions which advocate sexist ideals are utilized to justify and validate normative misogynistic perceptions. Rape culture sexualizes violence inflicted upon women, as it serves as a continuum of a society which views a women s body to be sexually available by default, deriving from the overall domination and objectification of a female. The underlying cause of rape culture is localized as it based upon the social aspects of culture. For example, countries with a prolific war culture tend to emphasize violence and masculinity, and therefore rape is viewed as a normal facet of society. I intend to parallel the element of rape culture to the enforcement of social rules and the conditioning of gender roles. I plan on analyzing the notion that within the encompassment of ... College drinking in the United States is leading to an increase in alcohol related deaths, suicides, and academic issues. To decrease the rate of unhealthy college drinking in the United States, the legal drinking age should either be lowered, or the professors in the colleges and universities should make their students workloads heavier. Unhealthy and irresponsible drinking taking place by college students is causing further issues in their lives. According to the National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism, the use of alcohol in a campus setting is a ritual that the students consider an initiation to the start of their college careers. (par. 2). College drinking leads to other health and social problems including deaths, suicides, academic issues, drug use. In this way, not belonging may be even more important than belonging as often individuals must be alienated in order to truly accept and understand their own identity. Such a notion is explored within the Shakespearean play, As you Like it, written in 1603. The text clearly illustrates the way in which not belonging to people, place and society is even more important that belonging as it allows an individual to gain a heightened understanding of the value of belonging and identity. Not belonging to people can lead individuals to gain a deeper understanding of the value of belonging. This idea is evident in the play as several characters who are isolated from The Court are able to deepen their understanding of identity. Shakespeare uses the character of Duke Senior to illustrate such an idea. The Duke is banished from the court by his younger brother and placed into exile in the Forest of Arden. It is through this displacement into the natural world and his experiences in tongues in trees, sermons in stones, books in running brooks and good in everything , that the Duke is able to truly develop his identity. The personification of nature as the teacher implies that the Duke has been taught about a new sense of identity. This demonstrates that the Duke s alienation from the court has allowed him to become a part of the natural world and in turn enrich his own identity and sense of self. In a similar way, the character of Jaques is able to deepen his understanding about the values of belonging through his alienation from the court. However, this alienation is by choice not force. As the rest of the group prepare for marriage with dance and food, Jaques chooses not to return to the court believing he is for other than for dancing measures . This juxtaposition of behaviour illustrates to the audience the deeper meaning Jaques is determined to find not only in himself but in a world away from the court. Not belonging has allowed Jaques to understand the truth about the court of painted pomp . The use of the alliteration highlights to the audience the realisation that Jaques has come to about the artificial nature of the court. Shakespeare uses this melancholy character to demonstrate that not belonging to a place allows an individual to gain a better perspective of the world and their purpose on it. I was so excited to use the little bit of Czech I learned; not to mention, I was excited to hear all the different languages. A simple Spanish menu in every English restaurant could make an impact on anyone in the daily public. For those like Rodriguez, I think learning more than one language should not feel forceful nor fearful, but an optional opportunity for more knowledge in another culture and identity. Personally, I felt less fear and pressure to learn czech when I saw the English subtitles. The subtitles helped me understand the Czech language more when I compared it to my own English language. • 21. U.s. Foreign Policies During The Arab Spring Review of U.S. Foreign Policies to Egypt after the Arab Spring Our initial response to the 2011 revolution was appropriate. You suggested Mubarak to resign and declared U.S. support for the revolutionists. The decision reversed our long time Middle East policy favoring stability over democracy, but it served our national interest. It forestalled a Syria style civil war as we dissuaded the Egyptian Army from suppression. Such a war can jeopardize our use of the Suez Canal as a crucial route to deploy our naval forces. Unfortunately, our subsequent policies only undermined the stability in Egypt and our influence in this area. We have used the International Monetary Fund (IMF) loans to persuade both the SCAF and President Morsi to accelerate their political and economic reform. However, this project was not accepted by the Egyptian leaders who were reluctant to initiate political reforms that may undermine their domestic support and increase their national debt. The delay of IMF aid weakened the Egyptians power to stabilize its rickety economy and pacify its poor civilians. Consequently, the Egyptian leaders sought alternative sources of funding from Libya and the Gulf States, which decreased our voice in the politics of Egypt. When President Morsi was abdicated in the 2013 coup d état by the military, the U.S. took an ambiguous policy. They were seen as men s possessions who were only allowed to cook, clean, and make babies. Women weren t allowed as many privileges as men such as voting. But as the years went by, changes were made. Women were granted many of the same privileges as men, but they were still being mistreated in some perspectives. On September 5, 1995 in Beijing, China, Hillary Clinton delivered a speech about this issue at the United Nations Fourth World Conference for Women in front of 180 countries. Her speech was called Women s Rights are Human Rights . She gave this speech to express her concern over the mistreatment women have been facing. Clinton directed her speech to governments and other organizations to argue why they need to help improve women s rights. Clinton uses ethos, pathos, and logos to persuade her audience that women should be treated equally. Clinton uses ethos in her speech to persuade her audience by showing them your credibility. Ethos is an effective way to persuade an audience. This helps to show the audience that the speaker knows what they re talking about. • 25. Lenders And Credit Loans Online Payday Loans Lenders who offer bad credit loans, including online payday loans, personal installment loans and auto title loans, have come under increasing attack in recent years. The Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, or CFPB, has been the most vocal critic of these lenders. The CFPB published its proposed regulations for short term, small dollar loans in June 2016. Included in the 1,341 pages of new rules and explanations is a section that deals specifically with lenders who offer online payday loans. Despite the pending proposed regulations and the criticism leveled at the lenders, however, the number of borrowers seeking an online payday loan continues to increase. Why Payday Loans Online Continue to Increase Despite Criticism of the Industry In recent years, many states and municipalities have passed laws that have made it difficult or impossible for payday lenders to operate a traditional storefront. However, as multiple witnesses pointed out during testimony before the U.S. House of Representatives Committee on Financial Services, outlawing a product is not the same as eliminating the demand for the product. In simple terms, people want the ability to borrow small amounts of money when they need to handle a financial emergency, and if they cannot deal with a lender who has a store, they will turn to a lender who offers online payday loans. However, there are other reasons for the increasing number of people looking for an online payday loan. Unlike stores, websites are open ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

(Lockyer, 198) Although the Book of Jonah is quite short, just two and one half pages, it is not short on themes. Because there are so many themes it is hard to classify or to determine its primary message. (Anchor 936 and New Interpreter s 490) These themes range from running away, praying, second chances, anger, and God s compassion and mercy, to name a few. The following will provide a brief explanation of each theme, previously mention, as it relates to the Book of Jonah. The first theme, running away and its consequences can be found in Chapter 1:1 2:1. Jonah is called by God to go to Nineveh and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Verse 5 states that each sailor cried to his god, which tells the reader that the sailors were pagans; therefore, the later interpretation is more likely. (New Interpreter s 496) The sailors cast lots to see whose fault it is for this situation. Using chance to find the perpetrator insinuates that it took divine intervention to single out Jonah. (New Interpreter s 498) The sailors ask Jonah who he was and where did he come from and Jonah s answer was I am a Hebrew. He also stated I worship the Lord, the God of heaven who made the sea and the dry land. The sailors believe that Jonah has brought the storm to them and asks What have you done? and What shall we do with you? (New American 1011) Feeling the weight of his guilt of running away from God, Jonah tells the sailors to throw him overboard. They comply unwillingly. Now the Lord still had a mission for Jonah and so he sent a large fish to swallow him up, which is where he stayed for three days and three nights. Certainly, the safest and simplest thing Jonah could have done would have been to go to Nineveh and preach against the city; therefore, running away is never a better answer. The second theme, prayer, occupies the majority of Chapter 2, specifically verses 3 10, the Psalm of Thanksgiving . This is thought to have been a later addition to the story, due to the fact that Jonah had not been saved yet. (Anchor 939) However, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

My argument proceeds in 4 sections: In the first section, I will articulate Lukas argument for self regarding restriction and why idealized restriction does not work well. In the second section, I will show that Lukas argument for self regarding restriction is not the best form of argument for Desire Satisfactionism, for the restriction that only desires which are relevant to well being are counted can encompass irrelevant desires as well. Drawing from Kagan s benefit argument, I agree with him that the things that increase one s well being must make positive changes to one s mind and body. The crucial point for a theory of well being is to understand from individual being s point of view how one well being is increased. If we study how can one s well being be increased through one s life, this is akin to looking only at the outside and failing to understand that if the internal cease to exist, there would be no external. Thus, the proper object of the theory of well being should be the person. Following from the argument of Restricted Actual Desire Satisfactionism, it seems to exclude too much as it cannot account for the case of why people would intensely desire for the team they support to win. One can bite the bullet and conclude that instead of no increase in well being at all, there is a slight increase. Instead of person and his life being separated in different spheres, one should see the person in the center and slowly extending to life being the outer circle. What would concern the person would have high amounts of increase or decrease in the well being, and what would concern the life would have little increase or decrease in ... Could the cancelled season have been prevented? Would there be an agreement for the 2005 2006 NHL season and beyond? If both sides in the negotiations could not reach an agreement and salvage the season, how must the two parties overcome the barriers (Trotschel, Loschelder, Huffmeier, Schwartz, Gollwitzer, 2011) to end the lockout? A thorough analysis of the terms, barriers and powers delineated throughout the negotiation process will show that a more effective negotiation process would have prevented the cancellation of the 2004 2005 NHL Hockey season. On September 15, 2004, Gary Bettman, representing the interests of the league and team owners, announced that the NHL players were being locked out from participating in the upcoming hockey season (Malhotra Hout, 2006). Gary Bettman was authorized and empowered by the team owners to declare such a decision in the event the two parties could not come to a contract agreement during negotiations. • 37. Social Work Reflection Paper During my time at my practicum, I have not experienced any practice related ethical dilemmas. In fact, as I am writing this, I have only been on the phones once since I just recently completed training. For this assignment, I am going to use a hypothetical dilemma based on things I have witnessed during my observation shifts, my knowledge of Headquarters Counseling Center, and my role as a social work intern. The emotional reactions I discuss will be true of how I feel while imaging the situation. At Headquarters, our primary focus is suicide prevention. As a social work intern, I see what the agency does at many different levels. Answering the phones, though, is just beginning for me. Counseling on the hotline will be my main job at my internship, so I will be discussing a dilemma based on the phone counseling portion of my work. This is actually a situation I have thought about, and I am worried about finding myself in, so I thought it would be good to work through it for this assignment and hopefully feel more prepared when the time comes. When talking to suicidal others (people who are calling us because they are concerned that someone else in their life is suicidal) on the hotline, it is extremely important for us to assess the level of seriousness of the situation and counsel the caller through the process as well. Often times, these callers want us to either call the suicidal person for them, teach them the skills to help their friend/family member/etc. on their own, or want us to call 911 to check on them. We reserve calling dispatch for when it is completely necessary. However, what if it is necessary but the suicidal person refuses the help? The following is a specific situation I have been thinking about and applying this ethical dilemma to. I receive a suicidal other call from a woman in a different part of the state who is worried about a friend in Lawrence. The friend has told her he is suicidal, that he plans to shoot himself in the head, and that he plans to do it the same evening. Well, in the book A Tale of Two Cities by Charles Dickens, written in 1859, Dickens uses symbolism to give the readers a hint about what will come later on in the story. Charles Dickens had written this book with the setting during the French revolution. During this period in the book France was against its unequal hierarchy; mostly stated by the peasants who couldn t earn money and poor who hated the rich because they thought the rule of being born into a class was unfair. Cruncher s rusty hands get spotted by his son, and then little Jerry says, Always rusty! His fingers are always rusty! muttered Young Jerry. Where does my father get all that iron rust from? He doesn t get no iron rust here(Dickens 43)! Jerry s fingers do not actually have rust; they have sand and grime from when he goes to dig up graves. Because he doesn t get it from his house, as young Jerry stated, it indicates that he isn t honest and that he is doing all this behind his family s back. Dickens also uses Jerry s muddy boots to foreshadow the scene where Jerry Cruncher s illegal money earning job is exposed. Since exterior appearances are important to many of us and the fact that we value what others think about us, we put a lot into the exterior of our homes. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... There are many reasons to fix up the exterior of your home. No matter what your reasons are, spring and summer are the times to get the outside of your home in top shape. In a recent trip to the Home Depot (mainly to get ideas on what to write about for this site), I started trying to find out what some of the top summer projects are by asking the employees and contractors in the area. Here is a list of the five most common summer fix ups they see on a regular basis. Decks and Patios One of the top all time summer projects is a new deck or patio. When it gets to be summer time, people think of barbeques and outdoor parties. • 43. Year of Wonders by Geraldine Brooks Essay The premise of the novel (Year of Wonders) could be seen as the antithesis of a journey as the villagers voluntarily agree to undertake a quarantine, which means they literally cannot go anywhere. In what way does this text represent a journey? Though the characters in Year of Wonders are unable to take a physical journey due to their actions, their circumstances cause them to embark on many spiritual, mental and emotional journeys through the course of the novel. Anna Frith, for instance, is forced during the plague year to overcome the deaths of her sons and family, and take upon many new roles that she otherwise would not have. The text also takes the reader on an imaginative journey. With characters that show human failings and its ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This is also shown through her learning of medicine under Elinor Mompellion, as the death and suffering around her act as a catalyst for her to undertake these studies, so that she may fight the plague in some way. Anna also undertakes a spiritual journey over the course of the book. Her learning of the villages Rector, Michael Mompellion s true thoughts near the novels end, as well as her realisations on the nature of some of the other villagers causes her to question her Christian faith and its restrictions it places on her in the society she lives in. This can be seen in her accepting view of the Muslim faith in the epilogue. Year of Wonders can also be seen as taking the reader on an imaginative journey. Through reading the book we can imagine ourselves in the time at which the characters live, faced by their same decisions. Geraldine Brooks has helped further this in a number of ways. The story is told in a first person perspective, allowing the reader to understand Anna s feelings and attitudes. Period dialogue is used to help transport the reader into the time and place in which the novel is set. Geraldine Brooks has paid particular attention into giving the majority of the characters secret failings for instance, the Rectors beliefs causing him to punish his wife, and Aphra, Anna s Mother s decline into madness and superstition. This has the effect of making them seem more human ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 44. How Did The Rise Of Islam Influence Western Europe The rise of Islam brought many important changes to Europe, both physically and culturally. Through the many conquests of Muhammad and his successors, Muslim dominion, by the middle of the eighth century, included all of the southern and eastern Mediterranean, as well as Spain. Spain would serve as a point of invasion for Islamic forces into Western Europe and it would continue to serve as an Islamic state up until 1492 when its last territory (Granada) fell to Christian forces. Muslim control of the regions south and east of the Mediterranean led to their domination of the Mediterranean sea and all the European trade that went on there. All of this contributed to a deep mistrust of Islam from Europeans, which would make way for the persecutions ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 45. Ficciones, by Jorge Luis Borges Essay In life it is necessary to have fantasy, because without it, life would be dull and meaningless. Life would be so different without dreams, since they are what motivate humans to keep on moving forward in order to achieve their goals. This is what Jorge Luis Borges is trying to explain to the reader in the book Ficciones which is very confusing, but also very deep in meaning. These stories demonstrate a theme of reality vs. fiction which is fascinating because in many of the readings fantasy is required at some point to accomplish a purpose or goal. Each unique story hides a meaning in the text which is a lesson to be learned. The confusion that is caused is similar to a labyrinth in which the reader gets lost. The message is hidden ... Hladik, protagonist of The Secrete Miracle, is a man bound to be persecuted on account of his ethnicity and political ideals. Similar to the United States, a country where so many cultures and backgrounds are crammed together, where at one point or another, the feeling of oppression or, at the very least, discrimination is sensed by many. Once the reader understands that the protagonists is human, and suffers, cries, laughs, hungers, loves like them, the bait is taken and comparison occurs between the readers real lives with the very realistic lives of those in the stories. A man determined to accomplish, another locked away at a Nazi camp awaiting execution the readers, wrapped in a comfortable cocoon. The events in the stories force the reader to make a connection with the protagonist and with the experiences they are going through. In the struggle to accomplish, the Nameless man, from that unknown country, whose language is untainted by Greek, the reader is thrust into a realization of sorts. In the opening of the story the reader comprehends that this man is supernatural since his wounds heal miraculously. He was not astonished to find that his wounds had healed; he closed his pallid eyes and slept, not through weakness of flesh but through determination of will, ( Ruins 57) The man is so determined to have a pupil, that he conceives one out of his dream, slowly transitioning ...
