The National Deaf Education Project was founded in 1998 by Lawrence Siegel. Lawrence M.
Siegel has been an advocate and attorney for special education cases beginning in 1979 (National
Deaf Education Project). He received his B.A. and M.A. degrees from the University of
California at Berkeley (National Deaf Education Project). He has strong beliefs regarding the Deaf
community and culture and the Deaf s rights and liberties as Americans. Specifically, he believes
that communication and language is a right for human beings and should become a necessity for
learning. He established the NDEP to become the model and articulate a plan for communication in
the educational setting for deaf and hard of hearing students in the United States (National Deaf
Education Project). The board of the NDEP consists of representatives of Gallaudet University and
collaborators of the project of the American Society for Deaf Children, the Conference of
Educational Administrators of Schools for the Deaf, the Convention of American Instructors of the
Deaf, Gallaudet University, and the National Association of the Deaf (Gallaudet). This organization
continues to aid in reforming the communication systems for the deaf and hard of hearing in public
educational systems. Lawrence Siegel has succeeded in an abundance of fiets for deaf and hard of

3. The Real Tragic Hero Of Sophocles Antigone

English 102
9 December 2014
The Real Tragic Hero in the Play Antigone A tragic hero according to Aristotle is someone who is
of high nobility, and has a major internal character flaw. That flaw will eventually by the characters
ultimate demise which is most likely death. If their demise doesn t end in a death the tragic hero
usually goes through a catharsis. The most common flaws of a tragic hero are hubris, pride, and
stubbornness. Tragic heroes can be found throughout most tragedy themed plays and they can help
the audience relate or feel for the character has they go through there ups and downs throughout
majority of the play. An example of play that has a definite tragic hero is the play Antigone by
Sophocles. Antigone and Creon are both the main characters in this play but only one is the true
tragic hero of this play. Creon perfectly fits majority of a tragic hero definition according to
Aristotle. Antigone barely meets a few of the aspects of a tragic hero, which is why tragic hero of
the play Antigone by Sophocles is Creon the King of Thebes.
Around the fifth century B.C. tragedies were a very new and popular form of playwriting
amongst the people of Ancient Greece. One of the first playwrights of Ancient Greece that
mastered the art of writing tragedies was the well know Sophocles. One of Sophocles famous plays
is called Oedipus the King which was the model for the guidelines used in the book Poetics which

Enterococcus Faecalis In 1899, Thiercelin found a new gram positive diplococcus that he named
enterocoque, suggesting that he believed that this bacterium had something to do with the
intestines. He also described finding this bacterium in patients who had enteritis, appendicitis and
meningitis (Murray). In 1906, Andrewes and Hoarder isolated this same bacterium from a patient
suffering from endocarditis and they also discovered a relationship with urinary tract infections.
They named it Streptococcus faecalis, again because of similarities to the human intestinal tract
(Murray). Other early 20th century instances of infection where S. faecalis has been associated but
not known to be definitively causative include wound infections after World War I, osteomyelitis,...

Immigration in 19th and 20th Century America During the late nineteenth and early twentieth
centuries, many American nativist groups opposed free unrestricted immigration. Although racism
is a main reason, there were many others. Economic, political, social and moral standards seemed to
be threatened by these newcomers. The immigrants were unfamiliar of the language and customs
that we take for granted in our everyday lives. The fear that gripped the nation was why people
reacted so strongly against immigrants. The people feared change might distort the course of our
prospering country. We did not want to become what those immigrants were fleeing. Many

This was not a single view, but a reflection of how the entire nativist nation felt. Many political
changes were also being made during this abstract time period. Immigrants were new to our
elaborate and tangled web of politics. In fact many nativist Americans didn t understand our
political system all to well. Many people had the conception that immigrants were too half witted to
follow American politics. After all they were not even born here. Immigrants tended to vote in
blocks together. In document 7, according to magazine writer, E.A. Ross thought that foreigners
were underhanded and corrupt. They polluted everything good about our pure and honest political
system. Ross gives a clear exaggeration on how the foreigners managed to change the outcome of
an election. From intimidation at the polls, ballot frauds, vote purchases, and saloon influence. Also
the support of the vicious and criminal. This is clearly a stretch on the reality of the situation. He
contradicts himself at the end by saying its root is the simple minded foreigner . With all this
criminal masterminding to change an election outcome, its foundation are immigrants who do not
completely understand our political system. Thats fails to make any sense to me whatsoever. Most
immigrants wanted a better future for their families and that was all. Social changes played a huge

6. Jane Goodall s Theory Of Primate Behavior
Anthropologists over time recognized several physical and behavioral traits that connect humans to
other primates, but can primates learn to manipulate tools, imitate, cooperate, communicate, and
reason somewhat like humans? By studying the various characteristics of primate behavior among
their various societies, many scientists are able to induce a stronger understanding of human
relations among primates and further our knowledge and understandings about evolution. The
existence or nonexistence of cultural patterns in subhuman primates may best be determined by
observations amongst different primategroups in their natural habitats. culture is dependent upon

easily among their social groups, for example, the chimpanzee can very much strategically

We ve seen the imagery what seems like daily here in the United States, decapitated bodies
hanging off a bridge on a major Mexican Highway, a banner above displaying drug cartel

broken and blood smeared windows with bloody sheets covering the bodies of those who were

since the official declaration of war made by President Felipe Calderon in 2006. It s estimated that

The poll taken in 2012 showed drug use is also steadily increasing across the board; the highest
representation of people using drugs would be those in the 18 25 age range, where 23% of 18 20
year olds who were polled stated they had tried a recreational drug. 19.7% of 21 25 year old
polled stated they had tried recreational drugs. The surprising statistic is in the above 50 age range,
where there is a steady increase in drug use with about 7 percent polled stating they had used drugs.
There is clearly a high demand for recreational drugs in the United States, and because of this
drug cartels all through Mexico and South America have thrived for decades. This essay will
explore some of the reasons why Mexican Cartels have thrived in the new Millennium creating a
drug trade that is estimated to bring The Cartels over 3 billion dollars in profits this year alone. It
will also explore the tactics used by both the United States and Mexico in combatting the illicit drug

Although dams can have negative outcomes, they are not the only projects with destructive effects.
Roads and highways also produce unintentional harm. In the 1970s, when Amazonian deforestation

easier access into the rainforest, the government built the Trans Amazonian Highway ( Tropical ).
This accessibility did not just allow easy entry for the official loggers, the highway also created the

9. Freedom in Dostoevsky s Notes from Underground Essay
Freedom in Dostoevsky s Notes from Underground
In Dostoevsky s Notes from Underground, the Underground Man proposes a radically different
conception of free action from that of Kant. While Kant thinks that an agent is not acting freely
unless he acts for some reason, the Underground Man seems to take the opposite stance: the only
way to be truly autonomous is to reject this notion of freedom, and to affirm one s right to act for
no reason. I will argue that the Underground Man s notion of freedom builds on Kant s, in that it
requires self consciousness in decision making. But he breaks from Kant when he makes the claim
that acting for a reason is not enough, and only provides an illusion of freedom. When faced with
the two options of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
So far, the Underground Man and Kant are in agreement. However, Kant believes that the
endorsement of desires consists of having a reason to act on that desire, a reason based on what
we perceive as some good. The type of good is unspecified it could anything from the satisfaction
of egoistic aims to the betterment of the human race. What is important is that we establish for
ourselves what type of good on which to base our reasons. Free action is impossible unless we
formulate our reasons independently; more specifically, we must decide for ourselves what is a
good reason for acting. Although the Underground Man agrees that we must formulate our own
reasons, he rejects the notion that reasons based on any concept of a perceived good can ever
really be our own.
This rejection of reasons as a basis for autonomy stems from his belief that freedom is virtually
impossible in a largely deterministic and evolutionary universe, where everything is determined
by the laws of nature to which he constantly refers. The Underground Man believes that the
feeling of freedom engendered by acting for a reason as opposed to acting blindly is an illusion.
He says of men with limited consciousness that Г¬they take immediate and secondary causes for
primary ones, and in this way they are more quickly and easily convinced than others that they have

10. Pros And Cons Of The Electoral College
There are some that would argue that the Electoral College should not be abolished. Williams
argued, According to 2013 census data, nine states California, Texas, New York, Florida, Illinois,
Pennsylvania, Ohio, Georgia, and Michigan have populations that total roughly 160 million,
slightly more than half the U.S. population. It is conceivable that just nine states could determine
the presidency in a popular vote (Williams). Consequently, without the Electoral College, nine states
can possibly determine the results of an election. Those that support the Electoral College think that
electionsshould be by state instead of a vote per person. The Electoral College can keep
unqualified candidates from winning an election and therefore, become president. Talents for low
intrigue, and the little arts of popularity, may alone suffice to elevate a man to the first honors in
a single State; but it will require other talents, and a different kind of merit, to establish him in the
esteem and confidence of the whole Union, or of so considerable a portion of it as would be
necessary to make him a successful candidate for the distinguished office of President of the United
States. It will not be too strong to say, that there will be a constant probability of seeing the station
filled by characters pre eminent for ability and virtue (Williams). He supports the idea that the
Electoral College keeps unqualified candidates from becoming the president. He also talks about

The United States has a very long history of military actions that helped expand its power in both
peacetime and war to a much higher status. After independence, the United States took military
control of the North American continent, acquiring territory from the native peoples, and from
other countries such as Britain, France, Mexico, and more countries. Not only seizing territory but
also offering help to any allies who needed it. The Roosevelt Corollary written by Theodore
Roosevelt in 1904, is a great example of how the expansion of American influence has spread
throughout North and Latin America, and also Asia. In the corollary, it basically says that if a
nation cannot help keep up with its standard, as well as having chronic wrongdoing, the
intervention of the United Stateswill have to occur. Mainly this document is speaking to Latin
America and the Caribbean /Central America. In the last few decades of the19th century, it was a

14. Pepsi Cola As A Carbonated Soft Drink Essay
Introduction
History has shown us that America was built on the back of positive rivalries (StreetAuthority,
2014). Competition increases the growth of industries through regular innovation but they also use
other tricks to get an upper hand on each other, for example: Microsoft and Apple, Ford and
General Motors, or PepsiCo (NYSE: PEP) and Coco Cola (NYSE: KO) (StreetAuthority, 2014).
Pepsi is a carbonated soft drink produced and manufactured by PepsiCo (NYSE: PEP). PepsiCo
Inc. was established by the merging of Pepsi Cola and Frito Lay. Its World Headquarters is
located at Purchase in New York. PepsiCo is an American multinational company which also
manufactures snacks, food and beverages with sales/revenue of more than 66.42 billion and
having employees over 274,000 by the end of year 2013 (Forbes, PepsiCo , 2014). In 1890, Mr
Caleb Bradham, a pharmacist and drugstore owner invented a new drink called Pepsi Cola
derived from two major ingredients, Pepsin and Kola nuts. Pepsi Cola became so popular that
customer named it as Brad s Drink (Pepsico, n.d.).
Coca Cola was started in 1886 by Dr John S. Pemberton, a pharmacist in Atlanta. Coca Cola sales
was $46.25 billion with employees over 130,600 as reported by the end of year 2013. Its
Headquarters is located in Atlanta at Georgia (Forbes, Coca Cola, 2014).

15. The American Society Moves Forward Into The Contemporary Era
As the American society moves forward into the contemporary era, advertising grew from small
telecast into an argument and suggestion. It is utilized as a form of communication in order to
encourage, persuade, or manipulate a broad audience ( What is the Purpose ). A prominent example
could include advertisements on Television for universities and institutes such as University of
Phoenix and Grand Canyon University. These advertisements, explicitly targeting students, are
attempting to promote the idea of the American dream in the society, which is the notion of every
U.S. citizen having an equal opportunity to achieve wealth, success, and happiness through hard
work and perseverance by attending these particular schools. A majority of Americans perceive a
college education as the ticket to the American dream ( Student Loan Debt ). The interpretations
portrayed ,from these college advertisements, grants the observer a window into American beliefs
about the idea of the American dream in society and the false perceptions of it. A primary example
can be seen in Mantsios s Class in America 2009 article, where he talks about a common
misconception that the United States is a fundamentally classless society (Mantsios 624). The
advertisements claim that the American dream is obtainable by attending these particular schools
and getting an education because every person has an equal opportunity, however, that is not the
reality of it. The notion of the American dream is a myth

these acts provide the stepping stone in computerizing all of Americans health records. It leads to
the question though, should we computerize all Americans health records using the EMR system in
5 years? Should we Transition to an EMR System?
I believe that having Americans health records on paper have many limitations which can be
corrected by using an EMR system. There are definitely some pros and cons of having an EMR
system but I do believe the advantages outweigh the disadvantages. As a nation, we are all trying
to move towards a more unified health care system. Having all medical records under an EMR

disadvantages of using an EMR system in a health facility.

Time in Andrew Marvell s, To His Coy Mistress Sex and lust have changed greatly over time,
especially since the late 1600s. In the poem, To His Coy Mistress by Andrew Marvell the
relationship between sex and time is rather passionate, but shifts as Marvell metaphorically
describes time. The horrifying tone put on the metaphors, allusions, and the hyperboles play an
important role in the understanding of Marvell s meaning on sex and lust of the speaker s lady
over time. The idea that each sex act shortened someone s life has come a long way. On the other
hand it is believed that the message Marvell was trying to address was how the cold lady
threatened the speakers love for her. Another idea is that the poem is based on death, and how
everything will one day die, rather than the passionate approach. I will prove how these 2 ideas
are wrong. In lines Marvell introduces the relation between time and the lady at fault, the speaker
wants to love her but it is difficult, Had we but world enough, and time, This Coyness, lady, were
no crime (Mays 739). Marvell shows how if they had time she would not be at fault, more
specifically their sexual acts, and lust for one another would be the opposite of sinful. Marvell

information that benefit every participant and the Silicon Valley serves as an example. There

23. Paley s Design Argument Analysis
Analysis Essay 1 HUMN 1029
By: L.A. Graham Singh
Based on my interpretation of William Paley s The Argument from Design, it sounds as though
Darwin s objection to the argument is invalid from the start. Darwin s objection says that there
doesn t necessarily need to be a designer, creation could happen by chance through evolution or
mutation. While the latter part of his argument is completely valid; things can be created through
evolution and mutation, the problem with his argument is that there would still have to be a
reason that the former being evolved or mutated. Some kind of event would have had to of taken
place in order to spark the change in that being. Paley s argument primarily uses a watch as his
example, explaining that it was ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
A law presupposes an agent, for it is only the mode according to which an agent proceeds; it
implies a power, for it is the order according to which that power acts . In other words, a law
implies an outside power consistently intervening in the creation of something. If this power does
not exist, than the law does not exist either. If a law of nature intervened to cause the evolution or
mutation that Darwin argues could be the reason of our existence, then he would be contradicting
himself because a law of nature by default, indicates a higher power s hand in creating, and

A Reflection at the Center for Inclusion and Campus Involvement: Social Justice Pre Practicum
Unlike my mental health pre practicum which was an off campus endeavor at Aspire Health
Partners, my social justice, and advocacy prepracticum took place on the campus of Rollins at
the Center for Inclusion and Campus Involvement (CICI). Working this semester for CICI was
an eye opening experience. For over four months, I was able to abide by CICI s mission
statement which consists of the following values; inclusion, courageous leadership, authenticity,
and social change. My endeavors were directed towards the LGBTQ community at Rollins, but I
was also able to work with incoming students with Title IX and Buzz to help the new students
understand how to be safe in campus. My professional and personal values remained congruent
with the social justice and social advocacy mission values of CICI, and afforded me the chance to
see the ethics of my mental health counseling program in action. Accordingly, my values stand as
self determination to encourage social justice and social change on behalf of my clients. It
behooves me to highlight how meaningful this value subsists for me since this was one of the
central purposes that inspired me to pursue a career in mental health counseling. As a gay man, I
realized that the LGBTQ community needs many advocates for their rights and for society s
acceptance, especially for the LGBTQ youth of today. Therefore, I recognized that counseling was

Noise Barriers: White Noise
NR 452
Erika Howe
Chamberlain College of Nursing
Professor Anthony Young White Noise in Post Partum
Assessment
Hospital noise is more than an annoyance. It disrupts patient sleep, creates spikes in blood pressure,
and hinders wound healing and pain management. The post partum unit at North Fulton Hospital
has installed a traffic light device that reinforces awareness of the need for a quieter atmosphere by
monitoring the noise level and turning from yellow to red as it rises. Even with this added device,
noise consistently gets the worst marks on patient surveys. Noise reduction efforts really gained
momentum recently, when Medicare began basing a portion of hospital reimbursement on quality
measurements including patient ratings of the quality of care (Landro, 2013). Additional measures
need to be put in place in order to improve quality care by reducing distracting noises. White noise
amplified through an intercom or machine will make the typical sounds become less obtrusive or
obvious to the patient.

A patient experience case study was done at St. Francis Hospital to address the specific issue of
noise. Over a nine month period this facility incorporated many innovations to successfully target
this problem. Direct feedback from patients determined that a combination of many actions helped
to make the noise reduction successful. This included white noise machines in rooms, quiet voices
by all staff members, signs on doors as a reminder to keep noise levels decreased, and dimming
lights during night shifts ( Transforming Care , 2014). In order to create this culture of quiet,
collaborative efforts need to be made and would ultimately contribute to higher satisfaction scores at

26. The Theatre Of The Lounge
Led by a group of actors into the theatre from the lounge, I saw a number of different theatrical
elements that were distinguished from other conventional theatre. The very first item that
caught my attention as I entered was a line of racks for coat hangers. Normally they would not
be one of the first objects an audience would notice in the house. The actors naturally guided the
audience to hang their coats on the hangers. As I went further into the space, I realized the
audience seats did not face the stage; the platform in which performance usually takes place on
was veiled by black curtains, visually creating a wall. This creation of the new wall yet did not
induce me to raise a question on where the actors would act; its answer was evidently shown. The
house was stripped down to a bare, flat ground, encircled by the audience chairs. I did not see any
specially raised platform that highlighted any actors presence. Nor did I see any decorative set
design, apart from two pillars and a bench in between, which distinctly differentiated the acting
region from the spectator region. I did see a blue tape on the ground that physically defined the
stage area. However, sitting in the front row, the tape mark was so close that I could easily step on
it. Meanwhile, instead of preparing themselves at the backstage for the play to start, the actors
walked around and interacted with the audience members through informal conversation. They all
wore their casual clothing; if I did not

27. The Persuader
I was once scammed online, by a scammer who I was trying to buy a limited edition virtual card.
The thing is when a victim is scammed the first thing he/she would do is blaming the scammer.
However, whose fault is it, the persuader or the victim? In order for persuaders to be able to win
they must gain people s trust, desire and belief. I believe in processes of gaining those things,
persuaders usually lie about certain things to be able to benefit themselves. Who is it to blame if
I trusted a doctor who said he/she could cure my cancer from faith healing and prayers and I die?
In this case it s the persuader s fault because he/she is faking and lying in order to steal from
someone. I think it is the victims/customers responsibility to be... Show more content on

Of course it is also the victim s fault for being naГЇve and credible. However, I think if you are
conned into giving someone $3000 is a crime freely. For example, some people fake as doctors
to scam people. They might say something like I could cure your mother s breasts cancer by
prayer of course it sounds stupid, but with the desire of the victim, they are likely to be less
aware and more credible. The responsibility should be the person who didn t deliver his/her
promises. In this case, I believe the persuader is the one responsibility for this case because he is
faking/lying who he is and what he promises by faking his identity and could be ruining someone
life, happiness and hope. However, I also think the victim should educate themselves or think
carefully before trusting. Con artists who prey and victimize others should undoubtedly be
punished, but we should encourage people to educate themselves so as to make these crimes.
On the other hand salesman who successfully convinces you into buying something is a very
similar case, however I think they are less of a crime, because they are not completely faking it,
at least they are promising the possible outcome like the protein powder. In this case I think the
fault should be more towards the victims because I believe they should know that some
salesmen don t even know their products so they lie and exaggerate about their products. Also,
they are playing with your brain and your desire. Most salesmen only care about money, which is
why they are trying to persuade you. I think victims should educate themselves more because if
their products is really good, they wouldn t even need to come to you and persuade to sell. In
cases where both victims and persuaders are wrong is something like a teacher offers his/her
students bribery, but the teacher keep asking for more money, in this case I

28. Nietzsche Nihilism
The 1859 publication of Darwin s On the Origin of Species had dramatic consequences, among
them the creation of doubt about God s place in a world where species independently evolve and
continually change. Darwin had not merely questioned God; he had shaken one of the core
Christian beliefs: that God had created a flawless and unchanging earth. When Darwin s ideas
were not scientifically disproven, the basis of Christianity itself was called into question. That
questioning continued as scientific discovery advanced. The traditional view and place of God
became less and less applicable to modern life, triggering an onset of nihilismin many as the
foundations of their lives were chipped away by scientific progress. Scholars and... Show more

Gooding Williams identifies two essential reasons for this desertifying effect of Christian
Platonic values on life. First, they identify as wrong or sinful certain aspects of human life that
Nietzsche thinks are vital (34). For example, this vaue system discourages willing and value
creation by claiming all authority in those areas. As a result, these instincts are repressed in
humans, who would rather will nothingness than not will, finally resulting in a denial of life,
which is seen as unhealthy by Nietzsche (Nietzsche, On the Geneaology of Morals 163). Second,
they favor ... the universal rule of one and only one value scheme, blocking efforts by individuals
to exercise their natural wills to power by creating their own values (Gooding Williams 35).
Out in that desert, the camel sheds his load, and becomes the lion spirit. Unlike the obedient, load
bearing camel, the lion asserts his own will and lordship in its own wilderness (Nietzsche, Thus
Spake Zarathustra). In order to truly become his own master as he desires, the lion must triumph
over the dragon, representative of the God and value system he is deserting, which claims that
[a]ll values have already been created, and all created values do I represent (Nietzsche, Thus Spake
Zarathustra). Since both lion and dragon claim sole authority over the creation and valuation of all
possible values, one must defeat the other:

29. Why Is Animal Testing Unnecessary
An estimated 100 million animals are used every year in the United States for scientific and
commercial testing. Animals are used to develop medical treatments, determine how toxic
medications are, check the safety of products for human use, and health care uses. Animal testing is
unnecessary and should be banned because of how they treat the animals, Animal testingis pointless,
and because of how they suffer and die. Now to start off, my first reason is how they treat the
animals. Currently millions of mice, rats, rabbits, cats, dogs, and many other animals are stuck in
tiny cages in laboratories across the country. Many animals every year die in cruel chemical, drug,
food, and cosmetics tests as well as in medical training exercises and curiosity driven medical
experiments at universities. Animals also suffer and die in classroom biology experiments and
dissections. Some animal tests include forcing mice and rats to inhale toxic fumes, force feeding
dogs pesticides, and pouring chemicals into rabbits eyes (Experiments on Animals: Overview)....

Some of the big reasons are how 30 HIV vaccines, 33 spinal cord damage drugs, and over 700
treatments for stroke have been created in animals that work for animals, yet none of these work on

defend vivisection) was asked if medical progress could have been achieved without animal use.
His written reply was I am sure it could be. And my last reason is how even some of the animal
testing workers agree that most of the tests are not very important. Despite many Nobel prizes
going to vivisectors (alive cutting), only 45% agree that animal experiments are important (33

It is intriguing to notice throughout art history the relationship between the artist and the patron.
Many famous and outstanding works of art only exist because of the wealthy patron behind the
work. From early renaissance sculpture to baroque style painting, patrons become increasingly
interested in commissioning art as a way of exhibiting their great power and influence whilst
maintaining an image of poise and regality. Donatello s Equestrian Monument of Erasmo da Narni,
(Gattamelata), (1443 1453) is a bronze sculpture made to commemorate the military
accomplishments during Gattamelata s lifetime. Although the sculpture was constructed after his
death, Donatello represents the general as youthful and stern. Anthony van Dyck s painting, Charles

The horse and Erasmo both are rendered with precision, flow, and with an accurate anatomical
representation. Detail is apparent in the muscular bodies which keeps a natural connection
between the horse and his rider. Although the subject rises above us, his disposition stays true to
life. Donatello chose to show a youthful Erasmo in his prime and hardened from battle. This
further establishes himself as a confident leader. He holds a baton diagonally in his right hand
giving the statue forward momentum. He presses onward even in death. The bronze statute sits on
a plain marble base that is arranged upon a limestone pedestal which includes the relief sculpture
of the angels and battle armour. The entire work is approximately 3.71 meters high (Stokstad, 631)
with the base and statue in a slightly deteriorated condition in present day. Donatello achieved his

34. Essay On The Singer Solution Of Almsgiving
Money makes the world go around. Peter Singer, professor of bioethics, came out with the
Singer Solution to World Poverty, that whatever money you re spending on luxuries, not
necessities, should be given away. While that formula sounds simple, it is obviously easier said
than done. The benefit of Singer s solution would finally be equality for all people. Although the
drawback to this formula would be asked in this question, Why should the wealthy give money
they worked hard for? People can only give and do so much until it is over the top and out of
control. The Singer Solution of almsgiving would help the entire world there is no cut off to who
should be given the money, not just the homeless in first worldcountries or individual third world
countries. As this idea benefits everyone, the world would stand behind the idea of Communism.

Although people should put away money for unexpected days, they should also give away what
they can. Studies show that humans become happier when they give to others. Singer s idea of a
luxury could be defined as something different in comparison to someone else. To one, a luxury
may be anything other than food and water while to another, a luxury can be defined as a dream
vacation. St. Lucy s Priory High School and female education could be seen as a luxury, because
in some parts of the world, girls are not allowed to be educated. If my parents gave away the
luxury money for me to come to this school, I would have a completely different educational and

The Witches Dance is a modern dance that has a lot of free movement mostly shown by the
smooth mysterious arm movements. In the context of the play, the dance takes place in a
swamp where Edward Bloom is told his future by a witch. First, the dance steps and movements
were way to slow which made the dance drag on and not look skillful. Throughout the dance, the
main witch simply walked around the stage slowly waving her hands back and forth which is
not impressive to watch because one assumes anyone would be able to perform that movement.
Furthermore, I understand that the scene was supposed to be slow and mysterious, but I think
more skillful maneuvers such as slow controlled spinning could have added to the
impressiveness of this dance piece. However, I think the dancers did do a great job in the
extension of their arms and legs from their body. Each of the witches had long capes connecting
to the end of their arms so the long extension looked really impressive and really dramatized the
mysteriousness of the dance. I think the main witch did the greatest job of extending her arms with
the crystal ball which alluded to the significance of the crystal ball. All in all, the dancers in The
Witches Dance were disappointing because they did not use fast speeds, turns, or any other skilled

The Modern PC Is a Model Of Hyper efficient Production And Geopolitical Sensitivities

When a customer in the U.S. clicks on Hewlett Packard Co. s Web site to purchase one of its

China run by a less familiar name, Quanta Computer Inc.
Although virtually unknown to consumers, Quanta is the world s biggest maker of laptops. As part

Outsourcing to low cost, high quality Taiwanese manufacturers has helped make Dell and H P the
world s top two PC companies in terms of sales. International Business Machines Corp., which
outsourced less than half of its laptop production, according to Merrill Lynch, and operated its own
factory in China, consistently lost money on its PCs. It sold the business this year to China s
Lenovo Group Ltd., which has used Taiwanese companies to make most of its notebooks in China.
But the relationship between U.S. computer firms and their third party manufacturers can be tricky.
In the struggle to retain an element of control over their suppliers, H P, Dell and others play
contract manufacturers against each other to keep prices falling and ensure no supplier gains too
much leverage.
Roger Bahalla, director of H P s laptop supply chain strategy, says H P typically works with a

43. Mental Rotation of Images
Abstract The idea of mental imagery has always been a controversial subject in the field of
psychology. Many psychologists have argued that such a concept is impossible to measure
because it can not be directly observed. Though they are right about this, it is not impossible to
measure how quickly mental rotations of images are processed in our brains. Subjects in this
experiment were presented two shapes simultaneously, via computer screen, and asked to make
judgement, as quickly as possible, as to whether the two shapes presented were the same or mirror
images. Two different shapes were used in this experiment, each given as often as the other. During
each trial one shape remained stationary and the other was rotated with varying... Show more

Overall, when comparing the reaction times of pictures to letters, picture reaction times are said to
be generally greater. In conducting this experiment 20 right handed subjects were used, 10 male and
10 female. Subjects participated in this study either to earn course credit, or for payment of ten
dollars per hour. Three things were concluded from this experiment. First, picture rotations took
longer to perform than letter rotations. Second, there were no sex differences in reaction times for
either stimulus presented, and third, there was a linear increase in reaction times as angular
disparity of both stimuli sets increased (Desrocher, smith Taylor, 1995). As predicted this study did
replicate some previous findings. However, based on the data from this experiment sex differences
did not yield a significant difference in reaction times when presented with the different stimuli.
Concurrent with our data, both of the previously mentioned experiments concluded the same thing;
reaction times increased as angular disparity increased. Although the objectives in each experiment
were somewhat different, there has been a sufficient amount of evidence to support the hypothesis,
that reaction times will increase as the angular disparity of objects increase. Method Participants
Ten St. Johns University undergraduate students participated in this experiment to fulfill their

44. Women In Arthurian Mythology
Arthurian legends may seem to only depict knights in shining armor saving damsels in distress or
powerful kings with queens sitting idly by their sides, but upon closer inspection, those women
were not as delicate as initially portrayed. In fact, there were many influential women who played
critical roles in the men s decisions. Significant ones included the Lady of the Lake, the moon
goddess, Morgan Le Fay, the all powerful fairy, and Guinevere, the mere mortal that everybody
envied because of her beauty. All three were beautiful enchantresses characterized by being
shrouded in mystery, refusing to reveal the true intentions behind their deliberate actions. Yet
behind each, there were complex backgrounds of where they came from and how they came to be.
The Lady of the Lake was a hooded figure so shrouded by mystery, her name is not even known
to this day. Some speculated names were Nimue, Vivien, or even Morgan Le Fay. She was said to
be a water nymph ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In Cunneware, it meant female wisdom and in Welsh it meant white enchantress. Guinevere was
the daughter of King Leodegrance but was sent off to get married to King Arthur. Her love for
Arthur was said to have everything but passion which was why she took up a lover who was
also Arthur s best friend and best knight, Lancelot. This affair lasted for many years, but not
without suspicion from others, until Arthur stopped turning a blind and reluctantly sentenced her
to being burned at the stake. In the nick of time, Lancelot saved her from a horrible death and
leaves her to lock herself in the Tower of London where she wore the nun s veil and where she
was supposedly buried. Guinevere was a symbol of sovereignty. All who wanted to take power had
abducted her before their reign and had become rulers while all that lost her lost their power. For
example, this happened to Arthur, Lancelot, and Mordred. This is one of the reasons why many
people blamed Arthur s downfall on

45. Canad A Beneficial Thing
Canada in the early stages was not how it was today, especially in the area of multiculturalism.
Multiculturalism in Canada during the 1900 s was rare and not spoken of. In fact, the British
people in Canada were against it. They came up with laws like the Chinese Head Tax , the
Continuous Journey Regulation and residential schools in order to make it hard for foreigners to
come and live in Canada. After awhile, Canada decided to become an independent country and
separated from the British rule . With this change Canada had a different way of seeing immigrants.
They started to see that immigrants coming to Canada was a beneficial thing. Canada was the first
country in the world to adopt multiculturalismas an official policy. By doing... Show more content

Back then, Canada was an extension of the British rule and was ruled by the whites. Britain
being as powerful as they were in the 1900 s, had a vision of Canada being Home away from
home . In other words, the British wanted Canada to be for just the whites. With this mentality
put in their heads the Canadians started to enforce laws to try and keep Canada as white as
possible . One of them was the Chinese Head Tax which was a tax that was put on every Chinese
person that wanted to enter Canada. At the beginning, when the law was first put in place, it
only cost fifty dollars for every Chinese immigrant. However, as time went on the price
multiplied, as it rose to an astonishing five hundred dollars . This was a huge problem for the
Chinese as they did not make a lot of money, they found it very difficult paying for the head taxes.
This resulted in fewer Chinese immigrants coming to Canada, which was what the Canadians and
British wanted to happen. Another law Canada enforced was, the Continuous Journey regulation
which was introduced in the early 1900 s. This law only allowed entry to Asian passengers that
had sailed on a continuous journey from their home land to Canada. Enforcing this law the
government knew that not many Asians would stay on a cramped ship for several months due to
the spread of sicknesses and diseases, so they were satisfied with this law and were still motivated
to keep Canada s immigration levels low. Another act

46. The Effects Of Long Term Meditation Practices On The...
Abstract Substantial research has been done on the positive effects of long term meditation
practices on the promotion of cognitive functions. However, the effects of brief meditation practices
have not been as thoroughly researched. Accordingly, this study will further investigate the effects
of short term mindfulness based training (MT) on the multiple traits of attentional processing. I
hypothesize that brief MT can have similar results to that of long term practices, indicating that
meta cognition can be improved in a short period of time. This experimental study will compare a
MT group, a relaxation group, and a control group all made up of inexperienced participants on
their performance of higher order processing of attentional tasks. We predict that the MT group will
do better than the other groups on all tests administered, and that they will improve significantly
compared to their previous performance.
Key words: Meditation, Mindfulness, Meta cognition, Attention
Introduction
Many recent studies have validated that people who have practiced mindfulness based training and
/or meditation express greater cognitive flexibility. Mindfulness is a psychological state
characterized by full attention to a present experience without elaboration of thought or emotional
reactivity while focusing on the sensations of one s breath and body and maintaining relaxation.
Thus, MT heightens meta cognitive processing to an extent (Austin, 1998 as found in Zeidan,

47. The Seventh Man Short Story
The improbable idea of guilt rushes through everyone at one time or another. We often find
ourselves forgiving people or placing blame on ourselves for inadequate reasons. In the story
The Seventh Man by Haruki Murakami, the Seventh Man s best friend K is swept away by a
tsunami. For years, The Seventh Man refuses to forgive himself for the incident. At a young age,
he inhabits the quality to run from fear. Moving to a new town and changing his life, the
Seventh Man doesn t learn to forgive himself till 40 years later when seeing K s paintings. He
returns home and becomes at peace with his loss. At the time of the accident, The Seventh Man
was dealing with countless emotions in a brief time period, furthermore it is irrational for him to
have been able to save K. The Seventh Man should forgive himself for his failed efforts to save his
childhood friend. Written in the story The Moral Logic of Survival Guiltby Nancy Sherman, she
explains the feeling of remorse soldiers experience in war when a fellow soldier dies and they
were unable to save them. She calls this survival guilt. Soldiers in war regularly wonder why they
get to live when others tragically died. They have trouble comprehending what made them lucky
enough to live when they consider themselves no more of a hero than the next guy? In the same
manner, The Seventh Man felt a sense of responsibility for his friends death because he believed he
could have stopped it. He feels guilty for not withholding his moral to

48. Review Of Betty Friedan s The Feminine Mystique
In 1963, Betty Friedan published The Feminine Mystique which was revolutionary for that time
and exposed the happy homemaker myth . Ms. Friedan discussed how women feel it s
unfeminine to want to take an active part in society on equal footing as men. More specifically,
Ms. Friedan is quoted saying, a woman today has been made to feel freakish and alone and guilty
if she wants to be more than her husband s wife, her children s mother, if she wants to use her
abilities in society. This feeling has been coined as the problem with no name . Homemaker Rose
Garrity said, I felt inside very alienated from the world. I felt there was something horrifically

Friedan and NOW members caused radical feminists, such as lesbians and women of color, to feel
disconnected from the second wave feminist movement. Gloria Steinem says that Ms. Friedan
wanted to join society as it existed and that the younger members of the movement wanted to
transform society . Friedan was wary of lesbians and referred to them as lavender menaces .
Charlotte Bunch felt the control of women s sexuality was central to what happened in the women
movement . Her partner Rite Brown claims that the women of the movement treated lesbians how
men treated them [heterosexual women] . Brown goes on to claim that the lesbians left, if they did
not, they were thrown out. Women of Color felt disconnected from the movement in various ways.
Congresswoman Eleanor Norton stated, they associated white women with white men that meant
white privilege and mentions that black families could not raise their families if both the husband
and wife did not work, whereas white women had the leisure to sit at home, to which she says,
what do we have in common with those people? Women of color felt as though women s issues
were only those that concerned white women and did not consider what all women were dealing
with. Professor Beverly Guy Sheftall gave an example that living in public housing in Atlanta was
different than a professional woman trying to break the glass

49. A Summary Of The Ancient Greek And The Byzantine Empires
Both the Ancient Greek and the Byzantine Empires have a long and familiar history with
warfare, acclimated to crushing losses and sweeping victories. In Greece, military action has
fended off the Persian invaders and brought warring city states deep set rivalries. Within the
Byzantine Empire, conquest has brought Rome back into the Roman Empire. Despite both
civilizations high esteem in military conquest and glory, they had contrasting views of warfare
and how their respective armies went to work. The Greek Classical Terracotta volute krater,
attributed to the Painter of the Woolly Satyr, illustrates two messy front line battles in separate
registers. Meanwhile, from the Early Byzantine period, the silver Plate with the Battle of David
and Goliath depicts not so much a battle between two armies, but rather a dramatic yet
organized duel, over the course of 3 registers. From these two pieces, one could all but assume
one statement: of the artists and commissioners of the terracotta volute krater and the Plate with
the Battle of David and Goliath, only those of the former have seen battle. In the terracotta
volute krater, the viewer immediately sees from any angle that there is indeed a raging battle
afoot in the register occupying the body of the vase. The amazonachae, a battle between the
mythical Amazon (a race of warrior women) and Greeks, were a popular subject of works,
particularly in Athens. On one face of the neck of the vase, there rages a fight between centaurs
and Lapiths. Meanwhile, the Byzantine Plate with the Battle of David and Goliath depicts the
titular duel from the holy text. Despite drawing the viewer s eyes to the larger middle register
depicting the biblical fight, the silver plate s top register begins the plate s narrative: David is
confronting the giant Goliath. More importantly, among the two holding their hands out in
blessing (thumb to ring finger), David has the the blessing of God (depicted as a hand descending
from the sky). In this narrative, David s victory is assured; after all, he has the approval of God;
such is not the case in the amazonachae nor the centauromachia depicted on the volute krater, in
which victory is still uncertain. Needless to say, these works of art do not

The Yellow Wallpaper is a story surrounding the narrator s obsession with a wall with abstract
images while dealing with a psychological underlining issue. The story seems to depict a physician
that leaves her stranded in a room at night to deal with her hysteria, but the context of the story fails
to present any continuity of what was really going on. First and foremost, the narrator in this story
breaks open with lapses of time which exist to present her stay and the oppression she dealt with
while she was there. The story presents multiple journal inserts which leads to the conclusion that
the narrator suffered from hallucinations due to being prescribed opiates; further indicating that
medical malpractice took place with the reason... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
First and foremost, the narrator has no idea what she is taking, secondly, she never once had a
hallucination until weeks into her treatment. Lastly, the biggest concern is the fact that John is her
husband which creates a conflict of interest. These raise questions of concern that due to the
oppression she received during treatment John never bothered to question her reactions to the
drugs she was taking. Furthermore, why would the narrator openly allow her husband to treat her
for this type of condition? The text suggests that malpractice took place when the narrator says I

51. College And Study Criminal Justice
I grew up in Dayton Ohio where drugs and crime is very high. I watched the people I grew up
with thrown in prison or murdered. At a young age I was moved around many different foster
homes because my father was in prison and so was my mother. I was always told I was never
going to amount to anything but be another street thug that ends up dead or in prison just as my
familyand friends. With all odds stacked against my success I decided to take a stance and be
different.
I ve always wanted to give back to my community so once I graduated high school I decided to go
to college and study Criminal Justice. When I first started college it was like throwing a mouse
into a cage of rats. I had my studies and I also now had bills. At that time, I had just turned 18, I
couldn t find a job and my mother couldn t afford to pay for my tuition. After my father was
released from prison he decided to better his life and vowed to take care of me when I started
college. So I called my father and informed him of the situation of my tuition he said don t worry
son I will take care of it. At that time, it was only $400 dollars extra that I owed. When it came
time to make the payment I couldn t get in touch with my father it was as he disappeared. I
became hurt, confused and penniless on why my father would abandon me in a time I needed
him the most, I was forced to drop out of college still owing them $400. After a while the late fees
added up and came up to a total of $1300. I still didn t

There time is scheduled based on the student grade levels. Since there is a teacher and two aides
in this classroom, each teacher is assigned a grade level lunch hour. For example, Mrs. Whaley

grade lunch hour and Mrs. Beaver has lunch during the fifth grade lunch hour. Both of the aides
are also assigned to a lunch duty. They are to supervise the playground during recess. Recess
duty is the only time of the day the aides spend time with genera education students. Both Mrs.

provides math instruction for every grade level (at different times in the afternoon), while Mrs.
Beaver and Mrs. Jordan provide additional math help. For example, Mrs. Jordan is able to sit in
during 3rd grade math instruction, but once the 3rd graders are done they go to a different table
to work on accelerated math with Mrs. Beaver and Mrs. Jordan goes to a different table to
provide students with math one on one. Often times, Mrs. Jordan works with individuals to
improve their math fact fluency. I was not surprised to know that the aides do not leave the
resource room at all throughout the day. Unless it is a Jr. Achievement Day, the aides are to
remain in the room with the students at all times. For a Jr. Achievement Day, the students we have
in the resource room are able to spend the entire day with their peers learning about business and
economics. During this time the aides and teachers are going from room to room to check up on
the students and make sure they are understanding and able to do the material they are being

54. When Mystical Creatures Attack By Kathleen Founds
Religious Elements
In the book When Mystical Creatures Attack by Kathleen Founds, many elements and ideas are
used to combine multiple stories together. One of the most important elements used throughout the
book was the use of religion. The book mentions God, the Devil, the Bible and many other aspects
and symbols that are components of religious faith. With the use of those religious elements we get
an understanding where two of the main characters, Laura Freedman and Janice Gibbs, stand on
their beliefs and how their beliefs influences their life. In addition, it also helps reveal the
underlying message of the book.
Laura Freedman can be described as a believer and follower of God whom resides to religion when
trying to find the holy meaning of life. One way this can be concluded is based on her use of a
religious symbol, the phoenix bird. According to an article at Catholic Saints website, the
phoenix is a bird that burns itself and later rises again, and will never die because it did not eat
the forbidden fruit . It is a Christian symbol that represents resurrection (Phoenix Christian
Symbol 1). The phoenix bird is initially mentioned by Ms. Freedman in the first story called
When Mystical Creatures Attack! . When given a prompt that read what is your favorite mystical
creature? and what is the greatest sociopolitical problem of our time? to her class, Ms. Freedman
answered her own question with a story titled How the Phoenix Got Ms. Freedman out of Texas . In

The Latin American nations shared the hatred of colonialism and fear of nuclear warfare with their
fellow Africans and Asians. The FO acknowledged that the legacy of anti colonialism, which they

many other issues. The Latin Americans differed in that they were decolonized a century earlier,
and had been spared close contact with major conflicts, therefore having little fear of war in the
sense that you would find fear in South East Asia, India or the Middle East. The motivation to join

In 1959, Fidel Castro was still figuring out how to align Cuba, and what Cuba s role in the world
would be. By late fall of 1959, the Eisenhower administration felt that the US could never do
business with the Castro Government on a basis which could be termed even reasonably
satisfactory. Castro had already indulged in anti American propaganda, nationalized U.S. property,
proclaimed Cuba s neutralism, and worked with Cuban Communists. By March 1960, Eisenhower
had approved of a plan for the overthrow of Castro. By May 1960, Cuba officially aligned itself
with the Soviet Union, and received assistance from the USSR to resist the United States. The failed
Bay of Pigs invasion occurred in April 1961, several months prior to Belgrade. A little over a
year following the Belgrade Conference saw the Cuban Missile Crisis unfold. Cuba saw the
USSR s actions in this crisis as acting against Cuban interests, and Cuba began to deemphasize
relations with the USSR and create closer ties with the NAM countries. While undeniably a
controversial candidate for non alignment, many of Cuba s values were closer to the NAM s basic
principles. The Non Aligned countries believed in strengthening their independence by pushing
back on economic and political colonialism, and bridging the gulf between the wealthy and poorer
nations of the planet. They were in full support of Cuba s stance, even supporting Cuban frustration
