Lack Of Money For Extracurricular Activities Amongst...
1) List three national stories or issues that you think could be localized to Columbia. Lack of money
for extracurricular activities amongst underprivileged kids Affordable housing in college communities
and beyond Gender inequality amongst salary 2) In a couple of paragraphs, explain the issue on which
you d like to focus. Why is it particularly newsworthy for Columbia? I would like to focus on the lack
of money for extracurricular activities amongst underprivileged kids. I think this is a very important
issue that is never talked about in the news and one that needs to be brought to life. When most people
get to the extracurricular activities section of a college application, they just list all the things that they
were able to do and don t put any thought in it. It looks great, because it shows that you can not only
do your school work, but balance other activities as well. But what we don t understand is that many
kids never get that chance to participate in these activities, and therefore they don t get to fill out that
section and they get left behind. Take football for a small example. It looks great on a resume because
it is time consuming and takes a lot of willpower. It shows that you can work with a team and if you
are a distinguished athlete with some awards, you might even get some money to go play it in college.
But the sport is expensive, a cost that some families can t afford to take on. It is estimated that the gear
alone costs $650, not to

Earthworms
How Does Temperature Effect Earthworms?
Introduction
When one thinks of earthworms usually one thinks about slimy and nasty creatures that are only used
for fishing. Wrong! If there were no worms on earth, farms and many plants could not be properly
maintained. This paper will explain how important earthworms are to the earth and to our
environment. In addition, this paper will cover the origin of an earthworm, the anatomy and other
important characteristics. Origin The origin of earthworms were said to be on earth around 200
millions ago. Their ancestors were marine worms, existing before there was even soil on this planet
and vegetation. These worms underwent a slow process of adapting themselves to a new ... Show

Earthworms slowly bring soil to the surface and cover objects on the ground. This is one reason why
archaeologists have to dig down underneath the ground to find fossils. Night crawlers burrows can go
as far as 15 feet underground. Night crawlers have something that no other animal has. They have five
pairs of hearts. The hearts pump blood with the earthworm s muscular contractions. Only two main
blood vessels make up the earthworms body. The ventral blood vessel sends blood to the rear end of
the worm. The dorsal vessels pumps blood to the front end of the body and blood travels through the
ventral vessels into the capillaries on the body wall and the many other organs. Anatomy The body of
the earthworms is considered slimy and weird. Earthworm s body contains 80% water and 70%
protein. Fat makes up anywhere from 1 to 17 percent. The body divided into 100 segments. These
segments contain a pair of metanephridia, which drain the adjacent anterior segments. The bristles
help the earthworm hold its ground when trying to be pulled from its burrow. For instance, a bird pulls
off 6 to 7 segments; therefore new segments will grow back. Earthworms are invertebrates, which
mean they have no backbone. The mucus on the body helps the worm travel through their burrow
smoothly. As the earthworm travels underground the mucus holds the dirt from collapsing on the
worm.

Gun Violence In America
Gun Violence in the United States of America
Every day there is another story in the news about excessive gun violence, accidents with guns
involving children who found loaded guns in the house or unnecessary gun violence by police forces.
Due to the US allowing and making it so easy for citizens to have guns and for their security forces to
shoot without strict rules or consequences, lots of innocent people are killed without having any way
to defend themselves.
ICCPR
US is in violation of their human rights obligations under article 6 of the ICCPR right to life because it
s not protecting the lives of its citizens, it is allowing excessive gun violence (by police forces) and it
has insufficient violations of guns by people who are not even supposed to possess guns. The US is
especially in violation because it fails to control its police department on the use of gun violence.
The International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights (ICCPR) is an international treaty, which
entered into force 23 March 1976. The United States of America signed the treaty in 1977 and ratified
it in 1992. The main purpose of the ICCPR is to protect human rights, as it protects civil, political,
economic, social and cultural rights. The ICCPR addresses the right to life and that nobody should be
deprived of that right. However, the current gun violence in the United States is taking away the right
to life.
The body who interpreters the ICCPR is the Human Rights Committee, this is laid

The Song Of Wandering Aengus, By William Yeats And Seamus...
William Yeats and Seamus Heaney are both considered as the best Irish poets. Although, they are both
Irish, however, they did not always agree on the same topics. In the poem The song of wandering
Aengus written by W.B Yeats which was a one of a kind poem that shared the same theme as the poem
Digging which was written by Heaney. Regardless of the common theme, these two poems are
different for the reason that Yeats s poem refers more to cultural identity whereas Heaney s poem talks
more about family identity, mostly about his father.
The Song of Wandering Aengus poem gives the reader a great introduction to one of the famous myths
of Ireland: the mythology of love and beauty, and his infatuation with a beautiful girl. I went to blow
the fire a flame, / But something rustled on the floor, / And someone called me by my name:/It had
become a glimmering girl (lines 10 13). In these lines, Yeats mentioned the word fire which represents
enlightenment and inspiration in the Irish culture. In addition to, it also represents Yeats desire to
breath life into Ireland s literary and cultural identity as he is the enlightened one. Where he
transitioned the trout into life which shows the reflection of his desire. However, Heaney s poem
Digging does not related in anyway to the Irish mythology or culture that was referred to in the few
lines in The Song Of Wandering Aengus . Seamus Heaney prefered to cover the idea of family in his
poem and avoided the cultural identity

Popol Vuh “The Mayan Creation” Popol Vuh was an integral
Popol Vuh The Mayan Creation Popol Vuh was an integral part of the Mesoamerican society that had
been enlightened with the western biblical judiciousness. The Mesoamericans, which were called
Quiché people, believed that their Ancient World was fashioned from the same matter and aspects as
that of the Western Judeo Civilizations. There are numerous transactional meanings between the
biblical stance and the creation story of the Quiché. Many narratives have been borrowed from the
bible and reconstituted back into the five stories of the Quiché demonstrating that their belief system
was greatly influenced by an outside source. In Dennis Tedlock s translation of the Popol Vuh, the

In the passage, these two young boys entered the Dark House and are given two tests by a certain god
named One and Seven Death inorder to see if they can be tempted by worldly postions. The tests dealt
with temptation and overcoming one s fear. Unfortunately, One and Seven Hunahph could not resist
their temptations and were beheaded for their deeds.
One Hunahph s head is placed in the fork of a Calabash tree and his body is buried with his brothers.
This Calabash tree bore no fruit until the head of One Hunahph is inserted in its branches, and
produced an abundant amount of fruit. This clearly is representative of the Garden of Eden, when God
told Adam and Eve not to eat from the Tree of Knowledge, and the immaculate conception of Mary
when Jesus was born. The Blood Women is being depicted as that in the same as Eve. Blood Women s
father told her not to eat from the Calabash tree for it had the head of One Hunaphu in it and it looked
just like the fruit that was born onto the tree. At the Calabash tree, the head of One Hunaphu tempted
the Blood Women by telling her, she does not want merely a bone [piece of fruit] of the tree (Norton
1752; Popol Vuh). Through the persuasive language of One Hunaphu, the Blood Women reached for
the piece of fruit but instead of receiving the fruit, One Hunaphu spit into the palm of the woman s
hand (Norton 1752; Popol Vuh). The women received, not only wisdom from the tree, but also
received the gift of child to be born

The Extinction Of The Wolf Populations
In the past several years news organizations have reported that the wolf populations have been
dwindling and researchers are attempting to bring the wolf populations back to what they should be.
The population on Royal Isle has been struggling to survive. Many populations are suffering on the
island and researchers are struggling to make the population hit a point where they are able to survive
without overpopulating or under populating. The wolf population in upper Michigan has now hit a
high where people are starting to hunt them to protect wildlife. It used to be a very small population
but now it is thriving which will cause adverse consequences. This is also a struggle in Yellowstone
National Park. People have a lot of different ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The animals who ate off of the scrapes from wolf kills now have to go to other places to find protein
and food (Kluger). Once the scientists thought that the population was getting to low the new pack
was introduced. Once the new pack was introduced the other animal populations got more under
control. The coyotes were brought back down to a manageable size which helped the other
populations come back to normal range. This is a good sign because now the environment can go back
to the way it should be and be lush again. Now that the wolf population is back to where it should be,
other concerns have come into the topic. The grey wolf is a protected species that cannot be hunted in
any way. This is causing problems with the locals. Many farmers feel that they need to protect their
livestock by whatever means necessary. With the wolves being protected they cannot shot them like
they would back in the older times. The wolf population that was introduced back in 1995 is from
Canada though. They are also considered an experimental group because they are being observed.
This causes concern to the civilians living near the wolves. The wolves in the experimental group can
be shot or killed to protect livestock but the protected group cannot. If the protected group is killed
there would be consequences. This leaves a question every time a wolf is shot as to whether or not the
wolf is

Causes Of The Arab Malaise
4. Samir Kassir describes Arabs perpetual sense of malaise, or despair, and argues that it is possible
for the Arab states to become secular democracies and adopt the principles of equality and justice.
This is characterized by, chronic rates of illiteracy, inordinate disparities between rich and poor,
overpopulation of cities and desertification of land . Some of the causes of the Arab Malaise is the
gaze of the western other, feelings of being left behind, sense of powerlessness and geography.
The gaze of the western other, is a condescending gaze that reaffirms the inferiority of Muslim
societies, preventing everything even escape and inability to overcome insurmountable condition,
(Kassir). Further, Arab Malaise is worsened by the fact that Arab societies used to be comparable to
East Asian, Latin American and Sub Saharan African states. However, to Arabs, that is no longer the
case with all states except for the Arab societies moving toward democratic and technologically
advanced societies. The third cause of Arab Malaise is the sense of powerless to act and affirm
existence in face of other s domination that Arabs feel. This sense of powerlessness was reinforced by
Iraq US intervention where Arab community was unable to fight against American intervention. Also,
when Israel was established in Palestinian territory, the Palestinians could not fight back because of
the strong American unfailing support of Israel, making Israel capable of literally do anything it wants,
(Kassir, 8). Geography was also an important factor in creating malaise. The Arab world is situated
between two continents and has its own sense of tradition, and identity, however, Arabs are constantly
reminded of colonial powers and presence on their territory today through the presence of Israel. The
defeat against Israel in 1948 (Nakba) was a great humiliation and blow to the Arabs because it
signified that colonial rule was to be perpetually present in the Arab World for centuries to come.
Finally, the existence of oil in the region is a source of instability and malaise. The oil attracts western
powers and increasing West involvements leading the new hegemony of the United States in the
Middle East (Kassir, 76).

Book of Sand
1. The book had affected the narrator to a great extent. At first he did not care for the book, until the
stranger selling Bibles said the number of pages in this book is literally infinite. No page is the first
page; no page is the last . This intrigued the narrator s mind. After he had bought the book, he began
investigating. He noted down things in the book. He began losing sleep from the investigation and
when he actually got sleep, his dreams were about the book. As it states in the short story, At night,
during the rare intervals spared me by insomnia, I dreamed of the book . He had grown an obsession

However at this point he had already lost his friends and the things he valued. The book had taken up
a great extent of his time that could not be taken back, because unlike The Book of Sand, his life was
not infinite. 6. The literary device used is a metaphor. I think this because when the narrator says the
best place to hide a leaf is in the forest , he is referring to a way to hide The Book of Sand. At first he
considered destroying the evil thing. Although he thought that the burning of an infinite book might be
similarly infinite, and suffocate the planet in smoke . Therefore he thought to hide the book in plain
sight. Hiding a leaf in the forest is like hiding a book in a library. He hid the book on one of the library
s damp shelves in the basement and tried not to notice where exactly he put it. He did this so he and
anyone else wouldn t be able to find the monstrous book. He didn t want to be a prisoner of the book
anymore. The book had ruined his life and took away time, the most precious thing we have in life. He
didn t want to be trapped by the isolation of the book and so he hid it where it could never be

Arguments Against Protest
Garbage littering the streats, buildings slowly withering away in flames, glass shattered everywhere
while smoke turns the sky black, as city officials try to put together the pieces of whats left of their
city. All this is a classic scene of the aftermath after a protest. While having the right to freedom of
speech, and the ability to express them openly, there is still a right and wrong way to do so. Protesting
is the least effictive and most harmful. Although many argue that protesting is manageable and
proffiecent, protests casue more issues than bennifets because they hurt people and property, send bad
messages to the communities and waste people s time and resources. In the process of protesting many
people get hurt and injured while property gets destructed and destroyed. This alone should be the red
light, signally that protest does no good. A recent example would be the Trump Inauguration, more
than two police officers and one civilian were taken to the hospital (Krieg). Why are we endangering
the people that protect us, when all of this could be solved by not protesting. Not only does it endanger
police but in puts civilians at risk. These major cities where protest take place are homes to thousands
of people, and when protesters are in action ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Innovative Approaches to Corporate Management Essay
Innovative Approaches to Corporate Management
A company is only as strong as its weakest link. In order for it to succeed in today s competitive
market, the company will have to depend on the acquisition and application of good, relevant
knowledge on which to base its decisions. For that to happen, good and sound decision making has to
be a part of everyday business. Therefore, corporate managers have taken innovative approaches to
corporate management by creating consistency and unity towards a purpose, along with an
environment where both the company and employees can excel.
Experienced managers have come to realize how they impact their subordinates and that most

In the article, It s your ship: A Navy commander s grassroots leadership (2003), a Navy commander,
Captain D. Michael Abrashoff, took command of his ship, the USS Benfold, encountering very low
morale throughout the ship. He utilized what he called his grassroots leadership strategy to raise the
ship to be the best ship in the Pacific Fleet. While in command, he incorporated three principles that
he used as guidelines for his leadership strategy.
First, Create discipline through purpose (Unknown, 2003). Abrashoff did away with the diversity and
instituted a unity program to help the crew focus on the ship s common purpose and become a team
through communication and support of each other.
Basically, he wanted to instill in them that there is no I in team.
Second, Listen and communicate aggressively (Unknown, 2003). Here he interviewed the crew
extensively, asking about family and personal background. He told them what he needed from them
and asked them what he could do for them to help them achieve their goals. In doing so, he was able
to produce an environment where anyone could critique anyone else on the ship through proper
communication channels.
Finally, Be a champion for your team (Unknown, 2003). If the crew needed something and it was
within his power to obtain it, he would give it to the crew. They eventually came to believe that they
owned the ship. No longer was it a your ship

Analysis of To His Coy Mistress by Andrew Marvell and Sonnet by Elizabeth B. Browning
This assignment will examine two poems that were written before 1914. The two poems I will be
focussing on are To His Coy Mistress by Andrew Marvell and Sonnet by Elizabeth B. Browning. In
the essay I will be looking at how both poems emphasise love but yet have very different approaches
as in the coy mistress the persona is trapping his mistress into falling in love with him and uses tactics
to try and have a sexual relationship with her. However in the sonnet the persona has a stronger love
for her lover as the poem is more spiritual and her idea of love is on a higher level she does not refer

His attitude becomes more intimate as he tells her how he could spend ages on each part of her body.
An hundred years should go to praise Thines eyes, and on thy forehead gaze . This evidently would
have made his mistress have a different view of him as he is complimenting her. The poet uses
numbers in this section as a distraction as he is taking her away from the popular theme of time
destroying beauty which is a very different slant to the Carpe Diem theme. These type of poems often
begin with a warning that beauty does not last forever e.g. Robert Herrick s To the Virgins to make
much of time Gather ye rosebuds while ye may, Old time is still a flying . Marvell however is using
Time as a measure for her beauty. The effect is to make his mistress relax. She is being flattered and so
will be more willing to listen to what he has to say.
Marvell gives a relaxed attitude to this section of the poem by using enjambment. We would sit down,

Memory Distortion
Memory vs. Experience Do we really know what is true to remember? Do we really remember the
actual memory? Although some people do not believe that people can mentally delete parts of a
memory, many cases prove this method of memory distortion. The perception people remember that
they had within a memory is what forms the factual pieces of a memory. During the recall and
retrieval process, a memory is replayed consistently, but the more times it is replayed, the more times
new and inaccurate information is added to the memory. We do not choose between experiences; we
choose between memories of experiences. Our memory is tampered with by the many factors that
interfere with the encoding process of memory, therefore, changing the memory altogether.
Experimental work on memory distortion has caught the consideration of the more extensive
emotional wellness field, of the legitimate calling, and of the overall population. One reason is this: In
the most recent decade, hundreds if not a great many of patients have risen up out of psychotherapy
charging their fathers and moms, their uncles and granddads, their previous neighbors, their previous
instructors and specialists, and endless others, of sexually manhandling them years prior. The patients

In the early 19th century, there was an increase of Japanese immigrating across the states. The first
wave of Japanese immigrant settled in Kingdom of Hawaii where they were hired as contract laborers
and worked in plantations. The second wave of immigrant came to California in the1890s. According
to Kitano, the census identified more than 110,000 Japanese on the West Coast by 1920. To elaborate,
the Japanese immigrants came as single males, and employment for them consisted of physical
difficult labor, long hours of work with bad conditions, and low paying jobs. The generations of the

major interactions revolved around their families and their community. Most of them acquired just

7. (4 pts) Explain your allergic (inflammation) response to the bee sting. How will this response affect
your BP? After being stung by the bee, one indicator that you are having an allergic reaction in this
case is extreme redness of the skin. The bee sting injected allergens into your body and your body
overreacts trying to fight off the allergens and cause an allergic reaction. There are minor allergic
reactions and more severe ones. In this case if my body is turning red everywhere, and not just where i

which should not be taken lightly.

How The Garcia Lost Their Accents By Julia Alvarez
Who am I? Who are we? Where do I belong? What is self identity? These are a few questions that
people will ask themselves within their lifetime. Self identity is the way in which one person identifies
themselves within a social environment. In How the Garcia Lost Their Accents by Julia Alvarez, we
are able to see four girls who move from the Dominican Republic to the United States where they
begin to lose their heritage and values of being Spanish women, and create new lives. When moving
to a new country one recreates their identity through language, they endure the struggle of not fitting

A Report On Verification Of Forces
DDPD in February 2013 also commenced preparations for the verification of its combatants with the

According to UNSG reports (January 2013:2), the agreement reached between the parties at a Joint
Commission meeting, on 15 October 2012, to verify additional LJM combatants and conduct a desk
review of the entire verification exercise. This was supposed to be done by 15 November 2012 but
regrettably remained unimplemented.
The UNSG reports on UNAMID (January, 2014:2) reports that on 20 November 2013, the
Government and LJM informed UNAMID that they had entered into a bilateral agreement on security
arrangements outside and separate from the Doha Document . The agreement, which was reached
without consultation with the Ceasefire Commission, provides for the integration of between 3,000
and 4,000 LJM combatants (about three LJM Battalions) into the Sudanese Armed Forces and
government police. The remaining 12,570 of the 15,000 combatants declared by LJM are to undergo a
disarmament, demobilization and reintegration process in accordance with the DDPD. Hence an
agreement marks the end of the verifications disagreement of the LJM forces.

Examples Of Superior Court Cases
1. What type of cases you heard and how are District Court cases different from Superior Court cases?
At Superior Court I went to courtroom 4C and 3C. I heard cases about felony such as breaking and
entering a house, possession of drugs, fraud, larceny, probation violation, possession of stolen goods,
and injury to property.
At District Court I went to courtroom 1C and 1D. I heard cases about misdemeanor such as assault
inflicting injury, simple assault, impaired driving, speeding, and revocation driver s license.
In district court, criminal cases begin with a complaint filed by the police, or private individual in the
clerk s office. District Court heard Misdemeanor offenses and conducts preliminary hearings to

2. The difference in how Prosecuter, Defendants and Defense Attorneys conduct themselves?
At District Court:
Prosecuter
The prosecuter asks who has an attorney to the people that wait in the courtroom. If someone do not
have a lawyer the State will provide one. He also calls the parties name in dispute to start the hearing,
says the number docket to the judge and reads the indictment. He is seated in his desk all the time.
Defendants
The defendants are dressing regular clothes. They still have freedom and can leave the courtroom
finishing the hearing. All defendants are in the same courtroom waiting for their turn. They usually
stand up in front at the judge and besides their lawyers when starting the hearing. Sometimes, the
judge advices them or make questions to them.
Defense Attorney
Defense attorney and client are stand up in front of judge. Usually the defense attorneys plea guilty to
their client and makes an arrangement with the judge. The defense attorneys sometimes present a

Difference Between Chinese Culture and Western Culture
Intercultural Communication and the Conflicts between Chinese Culture and Western Culture
Abstract
There are many matters of cultural conflicts in intercultural communication of Chinese culture and
western culture, and it seriously affects the course of communication. So, it is necessary for us to find
the in depth reason and make some plans on how to improve the ability of intercultural
communication. This is the right way to avoid the cultural conflicts. There are several culture
conflicts: the conflicts on privacy, the conflicts on the sense of time, the conflicts on traditional
cultures, the conflicts on table custom. The reasons are: the difference in the mode of thinking, the
difference in behavior, the difference in the concept of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
B. The conflicts on the sense of time
The sense of time of western people is closely related with money. The idea that Time is money has
formed in their thought. So, they set a high value on their time. In the daily time, western people have
a meticulous plan about their time and they have a good habit of coming to date on time. In western
countries, if you want to call on someone, you must inform them or date with them before you come
and you should tell them your coming purpose, the time and the place. After both of you discuss about
it, you can make it out. But, Chinese people use their time at their pleasure. Usually, Chinese people
will not do things as the western people, and western people usually feel unsuitable on this course.
Most western people spend their time in working and studying, they seldom spend a lot time in eating
or doing something else. But Chinese people spend much time on other things. For example, when
western people come to KFC to have a meal, they eat their food as soon as possible, but, the Chinese
people in KFC show another situation. They eat their food slowly and chat with each other. They do
not think this is a way to waste time.
C. The conflicts on traditional cultures
Chinese people pay special attention to modesty. When they communicate with others, they often
respect others but look down upon themselves. They think this is a virtue and this is a polite
phenomenon with Chinese characteristics. When others praise

The Negative Effects Of Pornography
With the surge of wider spread accessibility to the internet on mobile phones and laptops comes a
surge in the accessibility and viewing of pornography. Much research has been done to study how
such an increase in pornography consumption is impacting the marriage relationship. Some findings
have indicated that users incur serious negative effects, including a 25% higher divorce rate, are 101%
more likely to be unfaithful to a spouse, and were 12% less likely to describe their marriage as very
happy (Doran Price, 2014). Interestingly, various studies have also noted that the effects may be
different for men than they are for women, stating that for women who viewed pornography in ranges
between 2 3 times a month and once a day or more, their marital quality was actually higher than
those who never viewed pornography... (Perry, 2017). Considering such contradictory findings, it can
be difficult for couples to know how pornography use plays into a healthy marriage, if it does at all.
Pornography use, at the very least, has been shown to create conflict and stress between spouses if the
non using partner is more religious or has negative views surrounding pornography. Is has also been
linked with lower self esteem in women. The affects of this activity must be viewed not only through
an individual lens, but through a couple s view. Taking such a view may reveal that regardless of the
empirical outcomes of porn use, perceptions, even, can have a serious negative impact

Volatile Organic Compounds
Overview
The Edwards Air Force Base located in Antelope Valley in Southern California was built to test new
aircraft and help integrate them into the U.S. Air Force. The site became a flight test center after World
War II. As an air base, many chemicals and fuel are stored here and throughout its history there have
been spills and improper disposals. This became an environmental hazard when the contaminants
began to seep into the ground. The EPA, the Air Force, and two state agencies signed a Federal
Facility Agreement in 1990 to address this issue.
Activities That Led to Pollution

volatile organic compound suspected of being a carcinogen and is a known hepatotoxin. Some of the
less harmful contaminants include landfills that may contain unexploded artillery, weapons or other
munitions related materials. Perfluorinated Compounds (PFCs), an unregulated group of chemicals,
has also been found and is being investigated at different sites on the base.

Trichloroethene has been associated with hepatotoxicity. Exposure also produces decreased appetite,
gastrointestinal irritation, headaches, skin irritation. Chronic exposure produces ataxia (loss of full

Tetrachloroethene is a group 2A carcinogen. This means that it is likely a probable carcinogen. It is
also a Central Nervous System depressant and due to its fat solubility it can enter through the skin and
cause irritation. Acute exposure to tetrachloroethylene can cause incoordination drowsiness, dizziness,

Theories Of Durkheim
Émile Durkheim is widely considered to be one of the founders of the science of sociology. Towards
the end of his book, The Rules of Sociological Method, he writes that a science cannot be considered
definitively constituted until it has succeeded in establishing its own independent status (150), a
statement that strongly suggests that with this work Durkheim is trying to definitively constitute[]
(150) sociology as a science. Contrary to this sentiment, Durkheim appears to rely on already
established sciences and scientific methods. Though he is definitely founding something new,
Durkheim fundamentally relies on the methods of traditional science to give sociology credibility
within the scientific community and beyond. One of the most obvious way Durkheim does this is
through his use of heightened and scientific language. He describes sociological principles as being
empirical postulate[s], the product[s] of a legitimate induction (Durkheim 149), and claims that one of
the key characteristics of sociology is that it ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In showing the similarities between the two sciences Durkheim necessarily implies that sociology is as
legitimate of a science as biology. In Chapter III, Rules for the Distinction of the Normal from the
Pathological (144) Durkheim focusses on establishing the differences between what is normal and
what is pathological in sociology by discussing how health and sickness are determined within the
biological sphere. Every sociological phenomenon, just as every biological phenomenon, although
staying essentially unchanged, can assume a different form for each particular case (147), therefor
making every sociological phenomenon as real and as scientific as every biological phenomenon. This
comparison also serves to separate sociology from philosophy, a distinction which Durkheim
considers to be the first characteristic[] of the sociological method

is a must. I will display cognitive flexibility by using strategic thinking having multiple plans to cover

I will practice dispositional flexibility by remaining optimistic at all times, encouraging my
subordinates along the way, expressing the importance of the task and inspiring everyone to remain
motivated. This in return will motivate my peers and supervisors, giving them a piece of mind during
stressful or unpredictable situations. Lastly, I will utilize emotional flexibility, to not only manage my
own emotions but the emotions of others. This can require me to take different approaches to
individuals on my team due to multiple personalities. If my subordinates remain emotionally stable
my peers will feel more comfortable working alongside me and my team, thus allowing the leaders to

Barack Obama s Speech On Human Rights

Research Paper: Hillary Clinton
I chose to analyze a speech Hillary Clinton made on human rights, or more specifically, women s
rights. Although I wouldn t want Hillary Clinton for a president, I definitely can agree with everything
she was advocating in this particular speech. She explains the ways in which women s rights should be
equivalent to human s rights, but are currently not, in China. The issues she was addressing are not
issues that we have often in America today; they are shocking and overlooked. If there is one message
that echoes forth from this conference, let it be that human rights are women s rights and women s
rights are human rights once and for all. On September 5, 1995, 180 countries came together in
Beijing China to hear first lady Hillary Clinton s speech about women s rights. This speech was the
United Nations Fourth World Conference of Women. The target audience for this speech is
governments and other organizations that can help meet the goal of making women s rights human
rights. She addressed problems that every single country faced concerning the liberties of women, and
why it was important that they receive these freedoms. The speech was courageous and considered
path breaking too many in its demand for action. The great challenge of this conference is to give
voice to women everywhere whose experiences go unnoticed, whose words go unheard. Hillary
Clinton has become famous for the statement:

India s Issue Of Kashmir
India thinks that Kashmir is not the issue for an international concern and India does not consider UN
s take on any political action over Kashmir. India s apprehension of Kashmir is reasonable somehow
because India has fought three times with Pakistan regarding Kashmir s issue. On the contrary,
resolution does not come through military action. According to India, if India is ready to establish
Kashmir as a democratic province with all the privileges of an autonomous, there is no guarantee to
Kashmir will be under the Indian union. Because there are lots of terrorist groups are fighting against
India. Pakistan is supporting them by providing materials as well as financial backing (Schofield, V.
2000).
The war between Pakistan and India in 1965 and 1999 see also (Bose, S. 2009) has shown that India
and Pakistan are increasing their military power and facing the challenges. On the other hand, China is
behind the Pakistan. So India is worrying if USA and China extend their support to Pakistan and
Pakistan prepares to attack Kashmir. Indian central politics are also responsible for improving
Kashmir case. Sonia Gandhi (leader of Indian Congress) is a liberal and her party wants a dialogue

This led to the development of Belbin s Self Perception Inventory which initially identified eight
distinct team roles (the ninth role of specialist was identified after the initial research). In 1981, Belbin

This inventory was derived from past versions. The 9 Belbin Team Roles are:
Completer/Finisher, Chairman/Co ordinator, Monitor/Evaluator, Implementer, Resource Investigator,
Plant, Shaper, Team worker, and Specialist.
Belbin believed individuals have a preferred team role, alongside a secondary team role which would
only show itself if the preferred team role was being played by another staff member or there was a
gap in the team in which a role was not being played. Belbin suggested therefore, that the team role
composition of a team may determine if it is successful or if it fails.

of development before they can achieve maximum effectiveness, stating this process may be
subconscious. The five stages of group development Tuckman proposes are: Forming,

Adoption Is An Option That Is Not Discussed
REVIEW OF LITERATURE
Per Steven Ertelt, adoption is an option that is not discussed nearly enough in the public debate about
choice. With adoption, everybody wins. The unaborted, adopted child gets the chance to live, and a
chance to live in a place with loving, caring people. The adoptive parents in return benefit from having
a child of their own. Studies even show that children who were born out of wedlock but are raised by
adoptive parents flourish in many categories. The adoptive children tend to attain higher levels of
education, higher self esteem, and even enjoy better health. Adoption is also beneficial for the birth
mother because she benefits from knowing she made the right decision to give life. Despite adoptions
advantages, it has fallen on hard times. Research shows there has been a decrease in adoptions since
the legalization of abortions in 1973. Before abortions were legalized, 8.7 percent of children born out
of wedlock were placed up for adoption, and now statistics show that number to be around one
percent. One matter of concern for the pro life movement is that women facing crisis pregnancies
often have false ideas about adoption. Pregnant women think of adoption as the abandonment of their
child, and see abortion as a much easier alternative (Ertelt n.p.).
According to Kevin Mcgovern, for most of the twentieth century, adoption provided a pretty good
outcome when a girl or woman became pregnant and was unable to raise her child. In an era where

Persuasive Essay On Hard Work
It s common to think that hard work is the key that will help people move up in the world, and that is
true for the most part. However what is one supposed to do when there s a roadblock that is difficult to
overcome? There are factors that may all together or by one at a time cause someone to not achieve
that pay that wish. Due to education and wealth, discrimination, worker abilities and monopoly power,
the opportunities of equal pay isn t always obtainable to workers.
First factor of income quality, not every citizen has the best education they can get for that high paying
job, and not many has the funds to get that job they really desire. In our world, not everything can be
as fair for those who strive for success. Consider this, many people start at working minimum wage
which is about nine dollar an hour. For one waitress addressed in a PBS news article by Paul Solman,
that one waitress only earned $2.13 an hour before taxes. It is stated by many who are struggling with
minimum wage that it is not enough to live on. As the cost of living increases, the minimum wage
becomes insufficient in covering bills and cost. As a result of this situation, there are inspiring students
who are unable to go further with their education and move up in life. Being stuck near the poverty
line creates a situation where as much as those workers desire to progress in their career, insufficient
funds and the lack of education keeps them from doing so as many higher paying jobs require

Paganism In Beowulf
¬By definition, a Pagan is a person who has religious beliefs other than those of the main world
religion. The epic poem Beowulf was passed down verbally from generation to generation with
enlightening Pagan teachings and elements. Christian elements were not included in the poem until a
Christian monk added them when it was put as written text. However, the Christian aspects collide
with the Pagan elements found in the poem. Beowulf was originally told with only Pagan elements. In

such as dragons and magic. We do not hear anything about saints, angels, or any particular dogmatic

Things such as magic, unnatural creatures, and strange scenarios play a huge role in their faith.
However, Christians believe that things such as dragons, witches, magic and the dark arts are of Satan.
While the Pagans view the dragon as a fire breathing, greedy creature keeping treasure in its lair, the
Christians view it as the devil making the setting of hell. The equivalent of Beowulf in the Christian
faith would be Jesus Christ. He came into the world (lair) and freed us from sins (hell). Pagans view
Beowulf as having superhuman powers that let him overcome any trial he may face. For example of
Beowulf s strength, he lifted the giant s magical sword when nobody else could. His strength is
matched by Christian faith with the story of Jesus was resurrected and came out from the tomb he was
buried in. Beowulf fought for peace in the land of Geatland and Danes. Christ made peace with
everyone. They both share qualities of the desire for peace. The biggest comparison between Beowulf
and Jesus Christ is when they both died to save other people. According to Christian belief, Christ was
crucified to save everyone from death. Beowulf was killed by the dragon in order to save someone
else and to calm his soul from the loss of his village. Christ also found his true followers when he was
carrying the cross and they came to help him. Just like in Beowulf how Wiglaf is Beowulf s
companion because he fights by his side through thick and thin.

Alinsky s Rules For Radicals Analysis
Alinsky s rules for radicals were written by Saul Alinsky in 1972. The rules were created to develop a
process for organization. Alinsky s rules were broken into two different types, tactics with 13 rules and
ends and means with 11 rules. The four rules I chose to discuss were from the tactics list of rules.
Alinsky s rules for radicals are applicable in many ways and also are somewhat biased. The first rule I
chose was the seventh rule of tactics, Alinsky states, A tactic that drags on for too long becomes a
drag. Commitment may become ritualistic as people turn to other issues. . I agree with the purpose of
this rule because people need variety in an organization or else they get bored. People need any kind
of variations of work that they can get within an organization over a prolonged period of time in order
to stay productive and efficient. Variation also allows for the members of an organization to gain

I agree with this rule because we, as human beings, are prone to over complicate a simple situation.
For example, we look at a situation, we then get overwhelmed by it, then, when the situation is over,
we feel as though we shouldn t have been worried about the situation at all. A Biblical example of this
tactic is in Genesis 3, starting in verse 1 by saying Now the serpent was the most cunning of all the
wild animals that the Lord God made and finishing in verse 15 by the Lord saying to the serpent He
will strike your head and you will strike his heel (HCSB). At first, the serpents description makes him
seem very intimidating but within the same chapter the serpent was told how he will meet his ends,
which discredits any prior intimidation that the serpent had. This tactic is true for all organizations

Maybe the terrorists want it though. They seem to like mass destruction. Heres another fact: It would
only take a couple bombs to destroy the US. This is not even counting wind carrying radioactive dirt
and dust miles away. If a bomb was dropped in the UK, people on the east coast of the US could suffer
radiation poisoning. Secondly, thermonuclear bombs, or hydrogen bombs, work by using the energy of
a fission bomb to compress and heat fusion fuel. This means that it has incredible nuclear fallout, and
if only a few were dropped, we would go into nuclear winter, no crops would grow, and everything
would die. Even if they were dropped in the same place at the same time on the other side of the
world, the nuclear winter would engulf the world in a shade, essentially turning it into a giant
snowball and causing another ice age. Going back to the question on the table, will there be a WWIII?
Maybe, if North Korea makes a big mistake. The USA cannot nuke North Korea because some of the
fallout would land onto China, South Korea, and Russia. We do not want to go to war with Russia,
neither China. If we go to war with Russia, then the world ends, if we go to war with China, its allies
would join in and our allies would join in and the world would end. The geography of North Korea is
perfect for them because we would have to resort to foot combat and carpet bombing, which is not

Elizabeth Jennings Diversity
The present doctoral research project intends to analyze and study diversity in unity in the poetry of
Elizabeth Jennings who is the only woman poet of the 1950s The Movement. Unity is in a sense that
the poets of the 1950s have been classified under the common grouping The Movement. Unity implies
the traits, themes, sensibilities, techniques these nine Movement poets have in common. Here diversity
is in a sense that Jennings is the sole female poetess with her conviction in the dignity of being human
one driven by her Roman Catholic outlook among the unity of male Movement poets. Jennings being
a woman poet differs from her male counterparts in terms of theme, language, sensibility, conventions,
faith, outlook, Confessionalism, Romanticism, and Mysticism and with the similar and diverse themes
of Movement poetry.
The Movement as a whole is unified in a sense with its common traits, themes, techniques among the
group members. Common traits and similarities with the poets of the Movement group make Jennings
a part of the Movement grouping and the uncommon features makes her diverse from the group.
The path Jennings poetry took was acutely influenced ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Though she denies being a confessional poet there are some autobiographical elements in her poetry
which find resemblance to her personal life and there is a revaluing of new confessional poetry as an
important progression in 20th century poetry. Therefore her poetry can be evaluated from feminist and
confessional point of view also. Jennings poetry can be evaluated from diverse angles like the
Movement Poetry, Catholicism, Feminism, Romanticism and redefining poetry of new
Confessionalism. Finally the project aims to bring into the fore what undercurrent of life she s been
successful in divulging and what not and exploring in depth her lesser known works and identifying
them as vital to her

Lack of money for extracurricular activities amongst underprivileged kids Affordable housing in college communities and beyond Gender inequality amongst salary 2) In a couple of paragraphs, explain the issue on which you d like to focus. Why is it particularly newsworthy for Columbia? I would like to focus on the lack of money for extracurricular activities amongst underprivileged kids. I think this is a very important issue that is never talked about in the news and one that needs to be brought to life. When most people get to the extracurricular activities section of a college application, they just list all the things that they were able to do and don t put any thought in it. It looks great, because it shows that you can not only do your school work, but balance other activities as well. But what we don t understand is that many kids never get that chance to participate in these activities, and therefore they don t get to fill out that section and they get left behind. Take football for a small example. It looks great on a resume because it is time consuming and takes a lot of willpower. It shows that you can work with a team and if you are a distinguished athlete with some awards, you might even get some money to go play it in college. But the sport is expensive, a cost that some families can t afford to take on. It is estimated that the gear alone costs $650, not to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Earthworms How Does Temperature Effect Earthworms? Introduction When one thinks of earthworms usually one thinks about slimy and nasty creatures that are only used for fishing. Wrong! If there were no worms on earth, farms and many plants could not be properly maintained. This paper will explain how important earthworms are to the earth and to our environment. In addition, this paper will cover the origin of an earthworm, the anatomy and other important characteristics. Origin The origin of earthworms were said to be on earth around 200 millions ago. Their ancestors were marine worms, existing before there was even soil on this planet and vegetation. These worms underwent a slow process of adapting themselves to a new ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Earthworms slowly bring soil to the surface and cover objects on the ground. This is one reason why archaeologists have to dig down underneath the ground to find fossils. Night crawlers burrows can go as far as 15 feet underground. Night crawlers have something that no other animal has. They have five pairs of hearts. The hearts pump blood with the earthworm s muscular contractions. Only two main blood vessels make up the earthworms body. The ventral blood vessel sends blood to the rear end of the worm. The dorsal vessels pumps blood to the front end of the body and blood travels through the ventral vessels into the capillaries on the body wall and the many other organs. Anatomy The body of the earthworms is considered slimy and weird. Earthworm s body contains 80% water and 70% protein. Fat makes up anywhere from 1 to 17 percent. The body divided into 100 segments. These segments contain a pair of metanephridia, which drain the adjacent anterior segments. The bristles help the earthworm hold its ground when trying to be pulled from its burrow. For instance, a bird pulls off 6 to 7 segments; therefore new segments will grow back. Earthworms are invertebrates, which mean they have no backbone. The mucus on the body helps the worm travel through their burrow smoothly. As the earthworm travels underground the mucus holds the dirt from collapsing on the worm. Temperature Temperature is an important aspect ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Gun Violence In America Gun Violence in the United States of America Every day there is another story in the news about excessive gun violence, accidents with guns involving children who found loaded guns in the house or unnecessary gun violence by police forces. Due to the US allowing and making it so easy for citizens to have guns and for their security forces to shoot without strict rules or consequences, lots of innocent people are killed without having any way to defend themselves. ICCPR US is in violation of their human rights obligations under article 6 of the ICCPR right to life because it s not protecting the lives of its citizens, it is allowing excessive gun violence (by police forces) and it has insufficient violations of guns by people who are not even supposed to possess guns. The US is especially in violation because it fails to control its police department on the use of gun violence. The International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights (ICCPR) is an international treaty, which entered into force 23 March 1976. The United States of America signed the treaty in 1977 and ratified it in 1992. The main purpose of the ICCPR is to protect human rights, as it protects civil, political, economic, social and cultural rights. The ICCPR addresses the right to life and that nobody should be deprived of that right. However, the current gun violence in the United States is taking away the right to life. • 5. The Song Of Wandering Aengus, By William Yeats And Seamus... William Yeats and Seamus Heaney are both considered as the best Irish poets. Although, they are both Irish, however, they did not always agree on the same topics. In the poem The song of wandering Aengus written by W.B Yeats which was a one of a kind poem that shared the same theme as the poem Digging which was written by Heaney. Regardless of the common theme, these two poems are different for the reason that Yeats s poem refers more to cultural identity whereas Heaney s poem talks more about family identity, mostly about his father. The Song of Wandering Aengus poem gives the reader a great introduction to one of the famous myths of Ireland: the mythology of love and beauty, and his infatuation with a beautiful girl. I went to blow the fire a flame, / But something rustled on the floor, / And someone called me by my name:/It had become a glimmering girl (lines 10 13). In these lines, Yeats mentioned the word fire which represents enlightenment and inspiration in the Irish culture. In addition to, it also represents Yeats desire to breath life into Ireland s literary and cultural identity as he is the enlightened one. Where he transitioned the trout into life which shows the reflection of his desire. However, Heaney s poem Digging does not related in anyway to the Irish mythology or culture that was referred to in the few lines in The Song Of Wandering Aengus . Seamus Heaney prefered to cover the idea of family in his poem and avoided the cultural identity ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Mesoamericans, which were called Quiché people, believed that their Ancient World was fashioned from the same matter and aspects as that of the Western Judeo Civilizations. There are numerous transactional meanings between the biblical stance and the creation story of the Quiché. The tests dealt with temptation and overcoming one s fear. Unfortunately, One and Seven Hunahph could not resist their temptations and were beheaded for their deeds. One Hunahph s head is placed in the fork of a Calabash tree and his body is buried with his brothers. This Calabash tree bore no fruit until the head of One Hunahph is inserted in its branches, and produced an abundant amount of fruit. This clearly is representative of the Garden of Eden, when God told Adam and Eve not to eat from the Tree of Knowledge, and the immaculate conception of Mary when Jesus was born. The Blood Women is being depicted as that in the same as Eve. Blood Women s father told her not to eat from the Calabash tree for it had the head of One Hunaphu in it and it looked just like the fruit that was born onto the tree. At the Calabash tree, the head of One Hunaphu tempted the Blood Women by telling her, she does not want merely a bone [piece of fruit] of the tree (Norton 1752; Popol Vuh). Through the persuasive language of One Hunaphu, the Blood Women reached for the piece of fruit but instead of receiving the fruit, One Hunaphu spit into the palm of the woman s hand (Norton 1752; Popol Vuh). The Extinction Of The Wolf Populations In the past several years news organizations have reported that the wolf populations have been dwindling and researchers are attempting to bring the wolf populations back to what they should be. The population on Royal Isle has been struggling to survive. Many populations are suffering on the island and researchers are struggling to make the population hit a point where they are able to survive without overpopulating or under populating. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The animals who ate off of the scrapes from wolf kills now have to go to other places to find protein and food (Kluger). Once the scientists thought that the population was getting to low the new pack was introduced. Once the new pack was introduced the other animal populations got more under control. The coyotes were brought back down to a manageable size which helped the other populations come back to normal range. This is a good sign because now the environment can go back to the way it should be and be lush again. Now that the wolf population is back to where it should be, other concerns have come into the topic. The grey wolf is a protected species that cannot be hunted in any way. This is causing problems with the locals. Many farmers feel that they need to protect their livestock by whatever means necessary. With the wolves being protected they cannot shot them like they would back in the older times. The wolf population that was introduced back in 1995 is from Canada though. They are also considered an experimental group because they are being observed. This causes concern to the civilians living near the wolves. The wolves in the experimental group can be shot or killed to protect livestock but the protected group cannot. If the protected group is killed there would be consequences. This leaves a question every time a wolf is shot as to whether or not the wolf is ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 8. Causes Of The Arab Malaise 4. Samir Kassir describes Arabs perpetual sense of malaise, or despair, and argues that it is possible for the Arab states to become secular democracies and adopt the principles of equality and justice. This is characterized by, chronic rates of illiteracy, inordinate disparities between rich and poor, overpopulation of cities and desertification of land . Some of the causes of the Arab Malaise is the gaze of the western other, feelings of being left behind, sense of powerlessness and geography. The gaze of the western other, is a condescending gaze that reaffirms the inferiority of Muslim societies, preventing everything even escape and inability to overcome insurmountable condition, (Kassir). Further, Arab Malaise is worsened by the fact that Arab societies used to be comparable to East Asian, Latin American and Sub Saharan African states. However, to Arabs, that is no longer the case with all states except for the Arab societies moving toward democratic and technologically advanced societies. The third cause of Arab Malaise is the sense of powerless to act and affirm existence in face of other s domination that Arabs feel. This sense of powerlessness was reinforced by Iraq US intervention where Arab community was unable to fight against American intervention. Also, when Israel was established in Palestinian territory, the Palestinians could not fight back because of the strong American unfailing support of Israel, making Israel capable of literally do anything it wants, (Kassir, 8). Geography was also an important factor in creating malaise. The Arab world is situated between two continents and has its own sense of tradition, and identity, however, Arabs are constantly reminded of colonial powers and presence on their territory today through the presence of Israel. The defeat against Israel in 1948 (Nakba) was a great humiliation and blow to the Arabs because it signified that colonial rule was to be perpetually present in the Arab World for centuries to come. Finally, the existence of oil in the region is a source of instability and malaise. The oil attracts western powers and increasing West involvements leading the new hegemony of the United States in the Middle East (Kassir, 76). Arab ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

I think this because when the narrator says the best place to hide a leaf is in the forest , he is referring to a way to hide The Book of Sand. At first he considered destroying the evil thing. Although he thought that the burning of an infinite book might be similarly infinite, and suffocate the planet in smoke . Therefore he thought to hide the book in plain sight. Hiding a leaf in the forest is like hiding a book in a library. He hid the book on one of the library s damp shelves in the basement and tried not to notice where exactly he put it. He did this so he and anyone else wouldn t be able to find the monstrous book. He didn t want to be a prisoner of the book anymore. Arguments Against Protest Garbage littering the streats, buildings slowly withering away in flames, glass shattered everywhere while smoke turns the sky black, as city officials try to put together the pieces of whats left of their city. All this is a classic scene of the aftermath after a protest. While having the right to freedom of speech, and the ability to express them openly, there is still a right and wrong way to do so. Protesting is the least effictive and most harmful. Although many argue that protesting is manageable and proffiecent, protests casue more issues than bennifets because they hurt people and property, send bad messages to the communities and waste people s time and resources. In the process of protesting many people get hurt and injured while property gets destructed and destroyed. This alone should be the red light, signally that protest does no good. A recent example would be the Trump Inauguration, more than two police officers and one civilian were taken to the hospital (Krieg). Why are we endangering the people that protect us, when all of this could be solved by not protesting. Not only does it endanger police but in puts civilians at risk. Browning This assignment will examine two poems that were written before 1914. The two poems I will be focussing on are To His Coy Mistress by Andrew Marvell and Sonnet by Elizabeth B. Browning. In the essay I will be looking at how both poems emphasise love but yet have very different approaches as in the coy mistress the persona is trapping his mistress into falling in love with him and uses tactics to try and have a sexual relationship with her. However in the sonnet the persona has a stronger love for her lover as the poem is more spiritual and her idea of love is on a higher level she does not refer to the ... An hundred years should go to praise Thines eyes, and on thy forehead gaze . This evidently would have made his mistress have a different view of him as he is complimenting her. The poet uses numbers in this section as a distraction as he is taking her away from the popular theme of time destroying beauty which is a very different slant to the Carpe Diem theme. These type of poems often begin with a warning that beauty does not last forever e.g. Robert Herrick s To the Virgins to make much of time Gather ye rosebuds while ye may, Old time is still a flying . Marvell however is using Time as a measure for her beauty. The effect is to make his mistress relax. She is being flattered and so will be more willing to listen to what he has to say. Marvell gives a relaxed attitude to this section of the poem by using enjambment. We would sit down, and think which way To walk, and pass our long Loves day . Although some people do not believe that people can mentally delete parts of a memory, many cases prove this method of memory distortion. The perception people remember that they had within a memory is what forms the factual pieces of a memory. During the recall and retrieval process, a memory is replayed consistently, but the more times it is replayed, the more times new and inaccurate information is added to the memory. Node 3 decrypt the last layer of the encryption and finds a GET request for Twitter that then passes it on to the destination server. The server then processes the request and delivers the desired web page in response. Tyco International Case Study Tyco International, a global company that was founded and established in Princeton, New Jersey during the early 1960 s and has expanded since to provide products and services to customers in over 60 different countries. According to their website, Tyco brings together best in class product, technology and service capabilities across controls, fire, security, HVAC, power solutions and energy storage, to serve various end markets including large institutions, commercial buildings, retail, industrial, small business and residential (Tyco). Unlike many other companies, Tyco International made a name for themselves within their first decade of business and even managed to be enlisted in the New York Stock Exchange. Following these accomplishments, the company purposely slowed its growth in order to organize itself and be more effective. They recontinued expansion during 1992, the same year Dennis Kozlowski became CEO of the company. Between the years 1991 2001, Tyco International acquired more than 1,000 companies, many of whom had respectable reputations. Throughout all the years that Dennis Kozlowski was CEO, Tyco International recorded revenue in range of billion dollar amounts. He was highly compensated for his hard work and commitment, but his desire for more ultimately led to his downfall. During the Fall of 2002, Dennis Kozlowski and his Financial Adviser, Mark H. Swartz, were indicted for a $600 million fraud scheme. According to The New York Times, both men created ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 31. Barack Obama s Speech On Human Rights Joseph Arellano 27 May 2016 Friday 10:00AM Research Paper: Hillary Clinton I chose to analyze a speech Hillary Clinton made on human rights, or more specifically, women s rights. Although I wouldn t want Hillary Clinton for a president, I definitely can agree with everything she was advocating in this particular speech. She explains the ways in which women s rights should be equivalent to human s rights, but are currently not, in China. The issues she was addressing are not issues that we have often in America today; they are shocking and overlooked. If there is one message that echoes forth from this conference, let it be that human rights are women s rights and women s rights are human rights once and for all. On September 5, 1995, 180 countries came together in Beijing China to hear first lady Hillary Clinton s speech about women s rights. This speech was the United Nations Fourth World Conference of Women. The target audience for this speech is governments and other organizations that can help meet the goal of making women s rights human rights. She addressed problems that every single country faced concerning the liberties of women, and why it was important that they receive these freedoms. The speech was courageous and considered path breaking too many in its demand for action. The great challenge of this conference is to give voice to women everywhere whose experiences go unnoticed, whose words go unheard. Hillary Clinton has become famous for the statement: ... • 33. India s Issue Of Kashmir India thinks that Kashmir is not the issue for an international concern and India does not consider UN s take on any political action over Kashmir. India s apprehension of Kashmir is reasonable somehow because India has fought three times with Pakistan regarding Kashmir s issue. On the contrary, resolution does not come through military action. According to India, if India is ready to establish Kashmir as a democratic province with all the privileges of an autonomous, there is no guarantee to Kashmir will be under the Indian union. Because there are lots of terrorist groups are fighting against India. Pakistan is supporting them by providing materials as well as financial backing (Schofield, V. 2000). The war between Pakistan and India in 1965 and 1999 see also (Bose, S. 2009) has shown that India and Pakistan are increasing their military power and facing the challenges. On the other hand, China is behind the Pakistan. So India is worrying if USA and China extend their support to Pakistan and Pakistan prepares to attack Kashmir. Indian central politics are also responsible for improving Kashmir case. Sonia Gandhi (leader of Indian Congress) is a liberal and her party wants a dialogue with Kashmir and Pakistan both. But recent Prime Minister Narendra Modi (BJP) doesn t want to negotiate with this case. Pakistani Argument After 1947, Pakistan felt that Pakistan is deprived because Kashmir has a majority of Muslim people and they have a right to choose their future ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 34. Importance of Individual Goals Essay Using my social care work placement (Sense Scotland) as a reference, I have compiled a report which fully covers effective team working in care settings. The report consists of a three part structure, which documents: the factors which contribute to good team working, the importance of interpersonal skills, and the contribution of performance review and goal setting to the success of any organisation. PART ONE: Individual, Team, or Group Methods of Working Within my placement organisation, staff members will generally work as part of a team as well as having an individual role. For the team to be efficient all members must know their own role within the team, liaise with each other, and look to improve individual strengths and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This led to the development of Belbin s Self Perception Inventory which initially identified eight distinct team roles (the ninth role of specialist was identified after the initial research). In 1981, Belbin s Self Perception Inventory was included in his book Management Teams: Why they succeed or fail . This inventory was derived from past versions. The 9 Belbin Team Roles are: Completer/Finisher, Chairman/Co ordinator, Monitor/Evaluator, Implementer, Resource Investigator, Plant, Shaper, Team worker, and Specialist. Belbin believed individuals have a preferred team role, alongside a secondary team role which would only show itself if the preferred team role was being played by another staff member or there was a gap in the team in which a role was not being played. Belbin suggested therefore, that the team role composition of a team may determine if it is successful or if it fails. Bruce Tuckman, an educational psychologist described a simple, easy to understand theory of group development in 1965. Tuckman argued that in order to function more effectively teams go through a process of group formation. Initially, this was defined as having four distinct stages although over a decade later a fifth stage was included. Tuckman explained that all groups will pass through each stage of development before they can achieve maximum effectiveness, stating this process may be subconscious. The five stages of group development Tuckman proposes are: Forming, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 35. Adoption Is An Option That Is Not Discussed REVIEW OF LITERATURE Per Steven Ertelt, adoption is an option that is not discussed nearly enough in the public debate about choice. With adoption, everybody wins. The unaborted, adopted child gets the chance to live, and a chance to live in a place with loving, caring people. The adoptive parents in return benefit from having a child of their own. Studies even show that children who were born out of wedlock but are raised by adoptive parents flourish in many categories. The adoptive children tend to attain higher levels of education, higher self esteem, and even enjoy better health. Adoption is also beneficial for the birth mother because she benefits from knowing she made the right decision to give life. Despite adoptions advantages, it has fallen on hard times. Research shows there has been a decrease in adoptions since the legalization of abortions in 1973. Before abortions were legalized, 8.7 percent of children born out of wedlock were placed up for adoption, and now statistics show that number to be around one percent. One matter of concern for the pro life movement is that women facing crisis pregnancies often have false ideas about adoption. Pregnant women think of adoption as the abandonment of their child, and see abortion as a much easier alternative (Ertelt n.p.). According to Kevin Mcgovern, for most of the twentieth century, adoption provided a pretty good outcome when a girl or woman became pregnant and was unable to raise her child. In an era where ... • 36. Persuasive Essay On Hard Work It s common to think that hard work is the key that will help people move up in the world, and that is true for the most part. However what is one supposed to do when there s a roadblock that is difficult to overcome? There are factors that may all together or by one at a time cause someone to not achieve that pay that wish. Due to education and wealth, discrimination, worker abilities and monopoly power, the opportunities of equal pay isn t always obtainable to workers. First factor of income quality, not every citizen has the best education they can get for that high paying job, and not many has the funds to get that job they really desire. In our world, not everything can be as fair for those who strive for success. Consider this, many people start at working minimum wage which is about nine dollar an hour. For one waitress addressed in a PBS news article by Paul Solman, that one waitress only earned $2.13 an hour before taxes. It is stated by many who are struggling with minimum wage that it is not enough to live on. As the cost of living increases, the minimum wage becomes insufficient in covering bills and cost. As a result of this situation, there are inspiring students who are unable to go further with their education and move up in life. Being stuck near the poverty line creates a situation where as much as those workers desire to progress in their career, insufficient funds and the lack of education keeps them from doing so as many higher paying jobs require ... • 37. Paganism In Beowulf ¬By definition, a Pagan is a person who has religious beliefs other than those of the main world religion. The epic poem Beowulf was passed down verbally from generation to generation with enlightening Pagan teachings and elements. Christian elements were not included in the poem until a Christian monk added them when it was put as written text. However, the Christian aspects collide with the Pagan elements found in the poem. Beowulf was originally told with only Pagan elements. In the article The Essential Pagan Elements in Beowulf , it explains Pagan elements included in the story such as dragons and magic. We do not hear anything about saints, angels, or any particular dogmatic points (Moorman). In the Pagan religion when a hero or important ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Things such as magic, unnatural creatures, and strange scenarios play a huge role in their faith. However, Christians believe that things such as dragons, witches, magic and the dark arts are of Satan. While the Pagans view the dragon as a fire breathing, greedy creature keeping treasure in its lair, the Christians view it as the devil making the setting of hell. The equivalent of Beowulf in the Christian faith would be Jesus Christ. He came into the world (lair) and freed us from sins (hell). Pagans view Beowulf as having superhuman powers that let him overcome any trial he may face. For example of Beowulf s strength, he lifted the giant s magical sword when nobody else could. His strength is matched by Christian faith with the story of Jesus was resurrected and came out from the tomb he was buried in. Beowulf fought for peace in the land of Geatland and Danes. Christ made peace with everyone. They both share qualities of the desire for peace. The biggest comparison between Beowulf and Jesus Christ is when they both died to save other people. According to Christian belief, Christ was crucified to save everyone from death. Beowulf was killed by the dragon in order to save someone else and to calm his soul from the loss of his village. Christ also found his true followers when he was carrying the cross and they came to help him. Just like in Beowulf how Wiglaf is Beowulf s companion because he fights by his side through thick and thin. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 38. Alinsky s Rules For Radicals Analysis Alinsky s rules for radicals were written by Saul Alinsky in 1972. The rules were created to develop a process for organization. Alinsky s rules were broken into two different types, tactics with 13 rules and ends and means with 11 rules. The four rules I chose to discuss were from the tactics list of rules. Alinsky s rules for radicals are applicable in many ways and also are somewhat biased. The first rule I chose was the seventh rule of tactics, Alinsky states, A tactic that drags on for too long becomes a drag. Commitment may become ritualistic as people turn to other issues. . I agree with the purpose of this rule because people need variety in an organization or else they get bored. People need any kind of variations of work that they can get within an organization over a prolonged period of time in order to stay productive and efficient. Variation also allows for the members of an organization to gain additional experiences ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I agree with this rule because we, as human beings, are prone to over complicate a simple situation. For example, we look at a situation, we then get overwhelmed by it, then, when the situation is over, we feel as though we shouldn t have been worried about the situation at all. A Biblical example of this tactic is in Genesis 3, starting in verse 1 by saying Now the serpent was the most cunning of all the wild animals that the Lord God made and finishing in verse 15 by the Lord saying to the serpent He will strike your head and you will strike his heel (HCSB). At first, the serpents description makes him seem very intimidating but within the same chapter the serpent was told how he will meet his ends, which discredits any prior intimidation that the serpent had. This tactic is true for all organizations because despite how difficult a challenge may seem, people are more than likely willing to help if they are ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 39. Will There Be A Ww2 Essay Will there be a WWIII? Most likely not. Countries from around the world are trying to prevent this from happening, because if we have a WWIII, we would be our own demise. First off, There are so many nuclear warheads in the world, that we could blow up the whole earth. As it says in this article, from a scientist/mathematician There are an estimated total of 20,500 nuclear warheads in the world today. If the average power of these devices is 33,500 Kilotons, there are enough to destroy the total earth landmass. For comparison, the largest bomb ever detonated was 50 megatons or 50000000000000 pounds of TNT. If we can produce 1 pound of TNT per minute, it would take 1,902,540 YEARS to produce the same amount of force one bomb can ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Maybe the terrorists want it though. They seem to like mass destruction. Heres another fact: It would only take a couple bombs to destroy the US. This is not even counting wind carrying radioactive dirt and dust miles away. If a bomb was dropped in the UK, people on the east coast of the US could suffer radiation poisoning. Secondly, thermonuclear bombs, or hydrogen bombs, work by using the energy of a fission bomb to compress and heat fusion fuel. This means that it has incredible nuclear fallout, and if only a few were dropped, we would go into nuclear winter, no crops would grow, and everything would die. Even if they were dropped in the same place at the same time on the other side of the world, the nuclear winter would engulf the world in a shade, essentially turning it into a giant snowball and causing another ice age. Going back to the question on the table, will there be a WWIII? Maybe, if North Korea makes a big mistake. The USA cannot nuke North Korea because some of the fallout would land onto China, South Korea, and Russia. We do not want to go to war with Russia, neither China. If we go to war with Russia, then the world ends, if we go to war with China, its allies would join in and our allies would join in and the world would end. The geography of North Korea is perfect for them because we would have to resort to foot combat and carpet bombing, which is not preferable. If we ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Elizabeth Jennings Diversity The present doctoral research project intends to analyze and study diversity in unity in the poetry of Elizabeth Jennings who is the only woman poet of the 1950s The Movement.
