Music And Children With Attention Deficit Hyperactivity...
Music and Children with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder Abstract These are some of the
reason that compelled me to choose this topic and focus on music as therapy for children with ADHD.
Medical Aspect of Music as Therapy for ADHD Music has been seen to help many children with
learning disabilities as it activates the brain so extensively helping the kid to focus. Music therapy has
been found to help the victims of brain trauma and children with ADHD. For the children with ADHD,
music is seen to bolster their attention and focus as well as reducing hyperactivity and more
importantly strengthening their social skills. Normally, in children who have ADHD, dopamine is in
low supply. Music is one of the social aspects that can help a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

It makes the affected children restless and almost continuously active. The research as to what causes
ADHD is still ongoing with scientist suggesting some factors such as genes, exposure to
environmental toxins for example increased level of lead at an early age, and brain injuries. The
symptoms associated with this condition include inattention, hyperactivity, and impulsivity. It is a
condition that has affected the learning and concentration of many children in school since it is
characterized by students making careless mistakes in school work, problems in sustaining attention
and the difficulty to follow instructions given (National Institutes of Health, 2016). These are some of
the reason that compelled me to choose the topic and focus on music as therapy for children with
ADHD. One of that main reasons why I took interest in this topic was finding out one of my nephews
was diagnosed with ADHD. Having a first had look at ADHD is difficult, teaching in a classroom of
eight children who were diagnosed with ADHD was already normal for me, but once you see it
change the life of one of your loved ones was one of the hardest things my family has encountered. He
was prescribed 10 milligrams of Focalin, which is used as a stimulant for the central nervous system.
This medication is used to treat ADHD, but it has a few harsh side effects which include loss of
appetite, fevers, and stomach pain. Observing my nephew on this new medication

American Chemical Corporation
Context
The business environment leading up to 1979 was a very challenging one as the U.S. economy was
still on the heels of a period of high inflation, low growth and high unemployment that started in the
1970s. The deep recession hit almost all sections of the economy. Real gross national product (GNP)
fell by 2.5 percent while the unemployment rate rose above 10 percent and almost one third of
America s industrial plants lay idle.

For the period from 1980 to 1984, all data of sales, depreciation and manufacturing and other costs are
given in the case (Exhibit 8). The period covering 1985 1989 the following assumptions were made:
1. Sales are assumed to not exceed 38,000 tons due to the 40,000 ton capacity constraint and a margin
for unsellable output. Price per ton growth rate is assumed at 8% through 1989, as stated in the case. 2.
Variable Costs: power cost per KWH growth rate of 12% year on year, graphite and salt expense
growth rate of 5% and 6% annually as plant production expected to remain constant 3. Fixed Costs:
labor, maintenance and other fixed costs to grow at 10%, 8% and 0.04% year on year based on the
average growth rate from 1980 1984. 4. Selling costs and R amp;D would remain roughly 0.7% and
2.8% of sales. 5. Net working capital would remain at 9% of sales based on AR staying at 10% of
sales, inventory staying at 4.5% of sales, and accounts payable constant at 5.5% of sales. 6. The case
stated that annual capital expenditure would be within $475k and $600k. Looking at the capital
expenditure in 1983 and 1984, spending would peak at $600k. Based on this, it is assumed that an
ongoing capital expenditure of $600k annually would be spent from 1985 1989. 7. There will be no

The Strangers That Came And Town By Ambrose Flack
Freedom is a birthright for all humans, we should always feel accepted to speak our minds and
be who we are. In his short story, The Strangers that Came to Town , Ambrose Flack is
showing that true freedom is about being accepted. He shows this through the characterization
of Mrs. Duvitch, Mr. Duvitch and Andy.
Mrs. Duvitch s quiet and reserved nature made her the ideal victim of rumors. The less people knew
about her the more room left for their imaginations. For example she is said to be the victim of an
obscure skin disease and that every morning she shook scales out of the bed sheet (3). The rumors
began to cease after her dinner party with Andy s family where her true nature began to be revealed.
Following the dinner party, Andy s mother invites her to a tea party
Where her delicate manners, and the fine needlework which engaged her, won the approval of the
local housewives who were present (15). Showing her embroidery skills helped her connect with the
ladies of the town. Embroidery is a way she expresses herself and after feeling comfortable with the
ladies she revealed that side of her. When she felt accepted by the ladies,
Mrs. Duvitch was finally confident enough to invite them to her house. After a while Mrs.
Duvitch found courage to ask these people into her house (16). Opening our homes to someone takes a
great deal of trust. Our homes are our safe place where we can be ourselves.
To the Duvitch s their home meant a lot more to them

Marxist View Of The Distribution Of Power Within Society...
The essay will analyse and critique the Marxist view of the distribution of power within society and
the political system. It will then summarise how we commonly define a liberal democracy and what
are its recognisable features within a pluralist context such as in Britain. Finally, it will ask how
Marxists might view the above as affecting participation in such a political system. Overall this essay
will outline the uneven distribution of power Marxism sees in a capitalist, liberal democratic society;
the class conflict this is based on, and the negative, repressive effect this has on political participation.
Marxism views human society as resting on an economic base and a superstructure. The natural basis
for Marxist critique of society ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
23). Here he confirms how politics, through the state, acts as a vehicle for the elevation of bourgeois
interests, cementing their power above that of the proletariat.
One implicit critique of the economic determinism of Marxism came from within the analysis itself.
Gramsci believed the role of civil society (schools, family, church) was as important as economics and
the modes of production. He thought that without greater acknowledgement of the role ideology,
consciousness and cultural hegemony played in society, the dominant capitalist ideology could not be
understood and thus its power challenged. However, as De Orellana says (De Orellana, 2015) though
Gramsci was harshly critical of what he called the vulgar historical materialism and economism of
Marxism, as a Marxist he assumed the fundamental importance of the economy .
A liberal democracy can be defined by a democratic recognition of the rights and freedoms of the
individual, with the law limiting unbridled exercise of political power, by means of regular elections,
freedom of; speech, association, religion and rule of law etc. By common recognition, pluralism is
now considered to be part and parcel of liberal democratic societies. Coming from within the
structural functionalist paradigm of sociological theory proponents of this view hold that political
power in democratic societies is dispersed among several competing veto groups, with the state a
neutral arbitrator to ensure competition is fair and

Resistance Body Exercise
It is considered common knowledge that physical activity is the key to a healthy life, both physically
and mentally. When someone is trying to get in shape or stay in shape they generally start doing two
things, eating healthier and exercising. When they are not feeling the best mentally, they can exercise
to release endorphins, improving mood. But what does exercising actually do for your body and what
is resistance training? More specifically what impact does resistance training have on your overall
health, cardiovascular, musculoskeletal and mental health. According to Richard Weil (2015),
resistance training is, any exercise that causes the muscles to contract against an external resistance

Why We Should Not Legalize Marijuana
In a study for the Cato Institute, Jeffrey A. Miron, senior lecturer on economics at Harvard University,
estimate that legalizing drugs would save the government approximately $41.3 billion annually on
expenditures related to the enforcement of prohibition (Ghosh 2010). Marijuana is believed to be the
nation s number one cash crop, exceeding the combined value of wheat and corn. This leading cash
crop is legal in nine states now allowing adult users recreational marijuana and 29 states have
approved medical marijuana programs. However, many anti legalization advocates say that the use of
marijuana often leads young people to experiment with harder drugs such as, heroin, crack, etc.

contrary, medical marijuana is important to a lot of people. According to a Discovery Health article,
marijuana has been extremely successful in relieving nausea, which is extremely good news for cancer

The Theories of Bandura versus Erikson
How does an infant develop into an adult? The answer is not as obvious as it seems. There are a
variety of factors that contribute to human development. A person not only grows physically but also
cognitively and socio emotionally. This paper will explain two theories; one cognitive and one socio
emotional; about human development. The two theories will be described, compared, contrasted and
individually evaluated based on the strong points and limitations. The first theory examined is Albert
Bandura s social cognitive/learning theory. A child does not automatically know how to interpret their
environment, but they can learn about the world around them and how to manipulate their
surroundings by observing people around them. According to Bandura (2002), Viewed from the
sociocognitive perspective, human nature is characterised [sic] by a vast potentiality that can be
fashioned by direct and vicarious experience into a variety of forms within biological limits (pp. 271
272). Although a large amount of learning from watching other people happens in childhood, a person
can acquire new skills or knowledge at any point in their life with the help of other people. The second
theory examined is Erik Erikson s eight stages of psychosocial development. Each stage in Erikson s
theory involves a conflict/crisis that a person must work through to evolve their personality. Rosenthal
(1981) explains that, Each stage arises because a new dimension of social interaction

Ufo In Mushiro Analysis
UFO in Kushiro by Haruki Murakami takes its start from the Kobe earthquake in 1995. There is no
doubt, that many people have got affected by what just happened, either directly or indirectly, as of in
case of a couple Komura and his wife. Komura lives far away from Kobe in Tokyo, and has no danger
to be feared of, except that his wife was acting weird past five days, watching news without a break to
eat, to drink, and bath. Komura seems to be invisible to her; she does not react at all at his presence.
Since there is not much he can do about it, Komura tries to live his life as if nothing would happen.
However, in sixth day his wife left the house with a note, stating that even if he is handsome and good
husband, living with him became unbearable, since he is just a chunk of air. That was probably ...

tomorrow there could be an earthquake; you could be kidnapped by aliens; you could be eaten by bear.
Nobody knows what s going to happen. That is exactly what happened to him he was not aware that
one of the disasters will change his life, taking away a piece of him, his wife. She is warning him to
live a life right now as tomorrow Komura possibly can follow his wife. The conversation between
Komura, Keiko and Shimao carries the essence of the whole story. The small trip (not even much

Deathstroke Vs Deadpool Comparison
If you were given a piece of every superhero s powers known to man, which powers would make you
the most superior? Deadpool (of the Marvel Universe) can be classified as the most powerful of all
mutants, whereas, Deathstroke (of the DC universe) makes it to the top 5 list of strongest metahumans
in his own reality. Both characters were products of a scientific lab gone wrong. If both of their
universes were to merge, who would triumph in a battle between these two iconic characters?
Deadpool and Deathstroke are similar in terms of being anti heroes, however, Deadpool is superior to
Deathstroke because he has more athletic capabilities, has a variety of combat methods, and his
chances of survival are higher.

The same health regeneration ability of Wolverine was given to Deadpool. However, unlike
Wolverine, Deadpool s health regeneration is quick enough that he is quite literally immortal. In the
Marvel comic, Deadpool Kills the Marvel Universe #1 , Sue of the Fantastic Four uses her powers to
blow up Deadpool s head. As she turns away, Deadpool was able to regrow his head and stab her from
behind (Bunn). Also, in the Marvel comic, Deadpool: Suicide Kings , the Punisher is able to cut off
both of Deadpool s arms and even decapitate him. Right as Daredevil and Spider man jump in to stop
the Punisher, Deadpool was able to escape the scene regenerated of any injuries (Barbieri, Benson,
Crystal). Deadpool was able to regenerate all limbs and organs in a matter of seconds to save his life.
This nails the idea that Deadpool is in fact, immortal. Some of the most strategic heroes and villains of
the Marvel Universe have not been successful in killing Deadpool. Deathstroke, on the other hand, can
regenerate health, but it does not allow him to regrow limbs unlike the far superior capabilities of
Deadpool. As seen on the television show Arrow, Deathstroke was shot in the eye with Green Arrow s
Arrow. Later on in the seasons, Deathstroke never regrows that eye and uses an eye patch (CW). If
any serious injuries are inflicted on Deathstroke s limbs or organs, it could mean the end of his life.
One quick stab to the heart with Deadpool s sword would kill Deathstroke. This further concludes that
in a deathmatch involving Deadpool vs. Deathstroke, the one to survive would be

Clean Meat Is Wrong
Because of this breakthrough, Scharfenberg believes people abiding by their religion s strict rules on
food, such as Jews and Muslims, can consume meat without it being ethically condemned by their
religion. This isn t to say people of religions which condemn certain products are now cleared to eat
these foods, it is a matter of interpretation to what they believe is haram, or forbidden. Many Muslims
who do not consume bovine and swine meat believe that clean meat is ethically clean, but it still
originates from a sacred animal.
Many concerns with clean meat are related to the cost, but the prices are, falling about 15 to 20
percent per month, as the company improves yields and finds less expensive nutrients. Within the next
several years, as prices decrease, clean meat products will become publicly available through stores
around the world. Cause and effect could eventually drive slaughterhouses into the ground, halt
climate change, and change how the world views what they are eating, changing how we perceive the
human diet for eternity (Scharfenberg).
Katie Engelhart, reporter at NBC Left Field, and Nicholas Köhler, freelance journalist, report that to
take a small step in reducing CO₂ gas emissions, campaigns like Meat Free Monday, are encouraging a
minimum of one meatless meal per week. Some celebrities endorsing the campaign are former Vice
President Al Gore, Simon Cowell, Gwyneth Paltrow, and Alec Baldwin. Influential celebrities and

The Internet and computer age has enabled people to work faster and more efficiently, with practically
unlimited access to information. As much as the technology boom has made our lives easier, as with
most good inventions, there is some negativity that must be dealt with. The dissemination of
information on the global network has put personal privacy at risk. Obviously, we are not going to

measures must be taken to keep the public, or government, from abusing the Internet and computer

Out hunting their human counterparts and scaring passerby, the grey wolf has long been considered a
menace. As a predator, many people refuse to view them as a creature to be protected and in an
attempt to reduce their population, Congress declared open season on their species, leading their
almost being hunted nearly to extinction. At their lowest point, they numbered in at about 1,400

are a few programs put in place whose purpose is to maintain/swell the numbers of Canis Lupus in

The Impact and History of Learning Disorders on Children...
The Impact and History of Learning Disorders on Children
In his 1954 majority opinion in Brown v. Board, Chief Justice Warren laid out concisely the
fundamental role that education would play in postwar America:
Today, education is perhaps the most important function of state and local governments. Compulsory
school attendance laws and the great expenditures for education both demonstrate our recognition of
the importance of education to our democratic society. It is required in the performance of our most
basic public responsibilities, even service in the armed forces. It is the very foundation of good
citizenship. Today it is a principal instrument in awakening the child to cultural values, in preparing

Of course, with a focus on academic achievement came increased scrutiny of academic failure. The
two main past impediments to universal education appeared to be near resolution all children were
now able to attend school and schools existed for all children to attend. And yet, what did it mean that,
despite the increased access to and importance of primary education, some children were still failing?
And how has our understanding of the reasons for failure changed since we first began to be
concerned by it?
The changing perceptions of attention deficit disorder in particular offer a tantalizing window into
modern debates over learning disabilities and academic achievement. ADHD is a disorder whose
depiction is both characteristic of other learning disabilities that entered the national consciousness
after World War II, and it is a disorder uniquely positioned among learning disabilities as one that is
treatable by medication. The treatment of atypical behavior as a medical illness especially with drugs
is a culminating feature of what child guidance historian Theresa Richardson calls the medicalization
of maladjustment that was unique to the child guidance movement in the first half of the twentieth
century and under girds today s mainstream child psychology. It also puts ADHD in a difficult
position to evaluate historically it is at once a part of popular advice

Criminalization and the Perceived Deviance of Latinos
There are different context in which labeling has specifically been used in the readings; however, there
is an overarching theme in that the labels serve to undermine and to subjugate Latinos, Asian
Americans and African Americans. The readings primarily focused on the criminalization and the
perceived deviance of Latinos and Latino youth.
In the book Punished by Victor Rios, he presents the argument that the consistent labeling by every
state run institution that cast young Latinos as criminals or cast at risk youth expected to commit
crimes is symptomatic of the social structures that creature the criminalization process of young
Latinos. Non state institutions as well as parents, who often seek help from them, are often advised to

5) and has actually made concessions that play into the labeling of community members as good
immigrant and bad immigrant. The labels of good and bad immigrant only helps to further normalize
the criminalization and dehumanization of people based on their migrant status. The logical
consequence of adopting a good immigrant and a bad immigrant binary is agreement that the
undocumented are criminals and thus the natural and race neutral solution must be to punish and
deport the undocumented for their reputed transgression not to challenge the underlying structural
reason people migrate. (Gonzales, p. 151) This leads to the fragmentation of the migrant population
and often leads to the splitting of families. The short term victories in immigration reform with the
onset of bills such as DACA (Deferred Action for Children Act) playing on the depiction of parents
forcing illegal migration on their children and the institutional recognition of it not being the child s
fault that their parent were criminals continues to deny the larger societal structures that continue to
only perpetuate deferred consequence under the guise of progress.
In Hector Tobar s book The Barbarian Nurseries, the labeling that occurs is that of undocumented

the bad immigrant come into play in societal structures. Because of white privilege and

Hally s Optimism In Master Harold And The Boys
Some people in the world may view a glass half empty, and some half full. This can be used to tell a
lot about somebody. Throughout the play Master Harold and The Boys Hally and Sam s characters are
introduced, and there are numerous times when Sam s positivity will outshine Hally s negativity, or
vice versa. Hally s pessimistic attitude shows a clear juxtaposition to Sam s optimism. This is seen
through Sam trying to make sure Hally has something good in his life to remember, Hally being
verbally negative about the comic books, later on physically and verbally attacking Sam, and Sam
attempting to stay calm and positive. There are not many of Hally s childhood memories shown
throughout the play, let alone happy ones. The happy ones that were shown, though, were from Sam.

After having Hally attack Sam, Sam manages to stay calm through it, and in the end, he ends up

When the deadline for Iraq to withdraw from Kuwait was broken on January 12, 1990 the United
States Congress authorized the use of military force on Iraq for their actions against their neighbor
Kuwait. The UN created a coalition force which included over 30 nations led by the United States in
order to liberate Kuwait. The United States had amassed its forces along with the coalition forces in
Saudi Arabia on the border surrounding Kuwait and Southern Iraq before starting the Air Campaign
which decimated Iraqi forces on the ground and air. On the Morning of January 17, 1991 the Air
Campaign code named Operation Desert Shield began starting the war to liberate Kuwait. US aircraft
along with coalition forces began bombing strategic sites in Iraq to include: aircraft, anti aircraft
facilities, and command communication faculties. The ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

that the US and Coalition forces used such as M1 Abrams tank, cruise missiles, stealth fighters and

not far behind them. One Hundred hours after the Ground Campaign started on February 27, 1991
President Bush declared Kuwait liberated and the US forces along with the Coalition forces started
pulling back and moving more into a defensive posture protecting the borders until peace negotiations

Examples Of Assertiveness In Julius Caesar
Assertiveness
William Shakespeare wrote the Tragedy of Julius Caesar where he tells the story of: The ides of March
and the downfall of Julius Caesar, Marcus Brutus, and Gaius Cassius.
Marcus Brutus is known for participating in the assassination against Julius Caesar in the play: The
Tragedy of Julius Caesar. At the time, Rome was led by the mighty tyrant Julius Caesar, who had
returned victorious from battle against Pompey. Such people as Marcus Brutus and Gaius Cassius
Longinus were afraid that Caesar would not see fit as the crown of Rome and struck him from his life.
Caesar s right hand, Marc Antony stood up for Caesar s beliefs and hunted the conspirators down, and
returned the favor.
In The Tragedy of Julius Caesar by William Shakespeare, Marcus Brutus is an example of
assertiveness where he rather would choose his 0wn opinions over his fellow conspirators.
Throughout the text, there are different areas where assertiveness is being used. (62 65, I, I, 827)
Into what dangers would you lead me, Cassius, That you would have me seek into myself for that
which is not in me In the translation of modern language, this quote would be translated into: What
kind of danger could you lead me into Cassius? That I don t already have inside me or around me.
Brutus is telling Cassius, during the scenario. Caesar has risen to power, and Cassius fears that this
power will lead to the downfall of Rome, therefor an assassination attempt must be made.Brutus is

Comparison Of Rita Hayworth And The Shawshank Redemption
In Rita Hayworth and the Shawshank Redemption, Stephen King writes about what it is like to be a
prisoner for life, and how being in prison can change a person and their morals. Throughout the book,
the narrator, Red, constantly discusses hope and it is the key to enduring each day in Shawshank
Prison by applying anaphora and symbolism. Red portrays the suffering that Andy faces in prison and
how it was through his mental and physical strength that he was not only able to survive in prison but
also escape. It was all because of hope. Using hope to tell the story King is able to paint a picture of
mental strength and the struggles that a prisoner would face. Red explains this by saying that the
prison was cold, grey, and repressive. Prisons ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

of hope is in a prison system. This quote is said by Red. It is important that Red said this quote
because it is the first time that Red shows any signs of believing in hope. It is all because of Andy that
Red believes in hope and is able to look forward to the future outside of prison instead of believing

Charles Perrault s Cinderell The Little Glass Slipper
Young children are exposed to princes and princesses through books, television shows, or films. The
charm depicted in these characters has made them so appealing to young children that becoming an
actual prince or princess is practically every kid s fantasy. Some parents and educators find these
characters appropriate and harmless to be shown to kids; however, many may argue that these
characters have a negative influence on kids. In three different versions of the classic fairy tale
Cinderella Charles Perrault s Cinderella: Or, The Little Glass Slipper,
The Grimm Brothers Ashputtle, and Tanith Lee s When The Clock Strikes, The most well known story
of all demonstrates that Princes and princesses do not serve as good role models because they give
children the impression of unrealistic standards of beauty by promoting poor self image, they impose
false hope that every relationship ends happily, and they teach unrealistic morals.
Princes and princesses are portrayed in a way that puts so much emphasis on physical beauty which
increases poor self esteem in young children. Princes and princesses always show importance to their
appearance. In the short story Cinderella, author Perrault presents the two step sisters as being
completely immersed in their looks. The narrator notes that: I shall wear my red velvet with the lace
trimming, said the eldest, There s always my diamond necklace said the youngest (54). This particular

Barbie Doll Patriarchy
The two poems that I chose to write about are Barbie Doll by Marge Piercy and homage to my hips by
Lucille Clifton. In Piercy s biography says, Her description of the girlchild in Barbie Doll is a not so
thinly veiled reference to herself. Piercy, however, did not sacrifice herself to patriarchy s image of
what an ideal woman should be; rather, she made herself into a crusader for women s rights ( Barbie
Doll 33). The quote helps me to understand Piercy s views for this poem. She felt that she did not fit
into the image of the perfect women of how society was seeing, but she would not let a man control
her life. Instead, she became an advocate for women s rights. Lucille Clifton introduction for her

Douglas writes the article Young Women Learn Harmful Gender Stereotypes from Reality TV that, I
think, is most relevant in the 21st century. The author says, Any feminist, female or male, who has
seen ABC s The Bachelor was repulsed. For those who have missed this fine media offering, a
carefully selected lunk of a guy in the most recent case, Aaron is presented with a harem of 25 also
carefully selected young women, all slim, all conventionally pretty and most blonde (Douglas, para.
1). A show such as The Bachelor does not represent real women. The media tries to portrait a perfect
looking woman, which majorities are white on the show. In Clifton s poem, she frees herself from the
stereotype of what women should look. In her poem homage to my hips, the speaker says, these hips
have never been enslaved, / they go where they want to go / they do what they want to do (ln. 8 10).
Additionally, Douglas says, The show is not about Aaron, it s about the 25 young women. Female
viewers see an array of personas, identifying with some and rejecting others, as they calibrate what
kind of woman succeeds in a world where appearance and personality still powerfully determine a
woman s fate (para. 8). To me, it says that a women who watches those type of show do not care about

The Gaze On Women s Cinema
Abigail Brill
Long Proposal
24 February 2015
The Gaze on Women in Cinema
Cinema has a very powerful influence on us, whether we are aware of it or not. Cinema tells us, in a
way of reflection, how we are to act and respond as a society. For example, in movies women with
body hair are portrayed as shamed, unhygienic, and usually rejects to sexual advances. I ve started to
recognize these consistent stigmas, but this is just one example of what I believe makes the male gaze
so successfully prevalent in American cinema.
Starting in the 1970s, women have been portrayed in film through various misogynistic lenses: the
male gaze, voyeurism, and sexual objectification; these lenses are still rampant today in modern
American film. Apparently, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
These films are not creative; they are mere replications of an era in film started as early as the 1960s.
American film has been using the enticing appeal of women s bodies to subtlety promote aggressive
voyeurism since films such as Hitchcock s Rear Window, and David Lynch s film Blue Velvet.
Voyeurism and spectatorship are exemplified in Hitchcock s film Rear Window from 1954. The film is
focused around the situation of the main character, Jeff, looking through his binoculars into a woman s
apartment across from him. The film employs a powerful photographic lens with its use of cut shots
that only show Jeff s optical perspective.
Hitchcock uses a standard eyeline match pattern, cutting from a shot of Jeff looking to a shot of what
he sees. Since there is no establishing shot that shows both Jeff and the opposite apartment, the
Kuleshov effect operates here: our mind connects the two images. More specifically, the second shot
represents Jeff s optical viewpoint, and this is filmed from a position on his end of the axis of action.
The camera has not crossed a line. We are strongly restricted to what Jeff sees and what (he thinks) he
knows.
(Bordwell)
As Rear Window continues, we see the objectification build up more and more intensity through its
technical uses and editing. Jeff s character attaches another lens to his camera to further magnify

How to choose and apply face powder?
Powder has been living in female beauticians from the time of ancient Egypt, and for centuries its
formula has evolved from a powdered clay, chalk and flour to the fine texture with caring ingredients.
The powder can be used not only as an independent makeup tool, but also to fix the foundation and

effect, or haze.
First, determine the type of texture: loose powder use at home and apply with a very large brush all

An Analysis of Succession Planning as a Strategy for...
1. INTRODUCTION
Built on the idea of change, the roots of succession planning (SP) lie within anthropology and the
study of kinship (Fox, 1967, pp. 16 7, 1993; Fortes, 1970, p. 305; Parkin, 1997, pp. 22 3, 127). Early
work into business succession by authors such as Christensen (1953), Gouldner (1954), Trow (1961),
and Guest (1962) helped to fuel its dissemination into a wider management context, which in the
present day encompasses leadership planning, change management, human resources, and indeed
almost any area of business involving change. While it may not have received as much attention in the
general management literature as one might expect, it is unarguably a critical issue for any
corporation, team, or individual, to consider ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The clear message that can be gleaned from all this is that succession planning is a global issue, yet it
is an area where comparatively little rigorous research has been carried out, particularly with respect
to methods of application. The aim of this paper is to synthesize the available evidence in order to
provide a broad reflection of how succession planning affects various types of businesses, to report on
approaches towards the use of succession planning including barriers against it and financial and legal
matters, to identify evidence relating to best practice, and to highlight gaps where further work might
justifiably be carried out.

adequate utilization and development of human resources (Burack, amp; Gutteridge, 1978; Fitzgerald,

Herodotus wrote the most about Cyrus, and his birth story written by him is the one most accepted, on
the other hand this birth story could also be called a folk story as it mentions Cyrus as having
superhuman qualities.
According to Herodotus, Astyages, who was the king of the Median Empire, gave his daughter to an
ally in Persis named Cambyses. While his daughter was pregnant, Astyages dreamt of the baby
overthrowing him and destroying his success when it grew older. Astyages then ordered his grandson
to be killed, but that order was not carried out as his chief advisor gave the baby to a Shepard. 10 years
later, Astyages was unexpectedly reunited with his grandson when he went to discover what he
believed to be a random child with superhuman qualities. Astyages was convinced by his chief advisor
to let Cyrus live. Another birth story is written by Ctesias (another Greek historian), who claimed that
Cyrus was not royal. Instead, he was born into a nomad tribe from Mard. His mother (Argste) dreamt
of her unborn son becoming a great king. Cyrus was born and grew up as a servant of Astyages, and

Barack Obama s Speech On Human Rights

I chose to analyze a speech Hillary Clinton made on human rights, or more specifically, women s
rights. Although I wouldn t want Hillary Clinton for a president, I definitely can agree with everything
she was advocating in this particular speech. She explains the ways in which women s rights should be
equivalent to human s rights, but are currently not, in China. The issues she was addressing are not
issues that we have often in America today; they are shocking and overlooked. If there is one message
that echoes forth from this conference, let it be that human rights are women s rights and women s
rights are human rights once and for all. On September 5, 1995, 180 countries came together in
Beijing China to hear first lady Hillary Clinton s speech about women s rights. This speech was the
United Nations Fourth World Conference of Women. The target audience for this speech is
governments and other organizations that can help meet the goal of making women s rights human
rights. She addressed problems that every single country faced concerning the liberties of women, and
why it was important that they receive these freedoms. The speech was courageous and considered
path breaking too many in its demand for action. The great challenge of this conference is to give
voice to women everywhere whose experiences go unnoticed, whose words go unheard. Hillary
Clinton has become famous for the statement:

An analysis of Schools of Psychotherapy as they relate to Anger Management
Anger is a basic human emotion that transcends cultural boundaries. However, despite its universality,
an exact definition agreed upon by all people is lacking (Norcross Kobayashi, 1999). Physiologically,
brain centers in the amygdala are connected to anger processing. Because the information processing
that takes place in this brain structure is primitive, anger can be triggered inappropriately and without
the individual s knowledge of the cause. In psychodynamic terms, past events and experiences
suppressed in the unconscious can be the source of generated anger. In cognitive behavioral terms,
anger is described as an interaction of behavior, cognition, and ... Show more content on

However, by exploring the various characteristics of the different schools of psychotherapy,
similarities and compatibilities become apparent, which can lead to a more integrative and eclectic
approach to anger management.
The Psychodynamic Approach
The psychodynamic approach can be traced to Sigmund Freud in the late 19th century and the early
part of the 20th century. He first concentrated on a cathartic method to release repressed emotions
associated with past experiences and then began to focus on a free association method and the
development of transference (Messer, 2001). Underlying the psychoanalytic perspective is the idea of
the unconscious. The unconscious is where past experiences and true emotions are hidden.
Manifestation of an undesirable trait, such as anger, along with excessive use of defense mechanisms
lead to the assumption of a deeper conflict hidden within the unconscious. Psychodynamic techniques
try to gain access to the unconscious and make the patient aware of the underlying conflict (Phares
and Trull, 2001). Among the emphases of psychodynamic therapy are a focus on the evocation and
expression of emotion to uncover the patient s unconscious issues, the importance of emotional insight
in which the patient can experience and comfortably understand his emotion, a concentration on a

in an out of stock liability improvement of 15% and actual sales were within 1% of budget

of a group of people that differentiates them from another group of people. It is the overall attitude,
customs and beliefs that distinguishes one culture from another. Culture is something that is actually
transferred from one generation to another not through genes but through language, material objects,
rituals that we daily perform, through institutions and through art and drama. For example greeting
guests by kissing both cheeks with hugs and serving Arabian tea with dates is in Arab culture. Holiday
on Fridays is observed all the Muslim countries all over the world this is Islamic culture in Islamic
countries. In this essay I will ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Sometimes it s between different religions and sometimes between Native American minorities. But it
s not just colonization that resulted in cultural conflicts but also because of conflicting values, racism
of who is superior. Cultural diversity can sometimes bring ethical or political issues with it. Usually
the problem arises because of minority culture sometimes clashing with the majority. The term
liberalism means the freedom of speech and freedom to live one s life according to their own cultural
practices. In liberal states each individual has the right to be treated equally, justice is equal for all
irrespective of cast creed or color as every single individual has his own political views, color,
religion, dress code etc. Whereas discrimination takes place when one group is treated differently from
another based on his looks, clothes, his social status.
The concept of cultural encounter can very well be seen in the short story One out of many . The story
is well written and fulfills all the requirements of the theme. It is a story about a young man Santosh
who travels to Washington USA with his employer. There he sees a totally different world before him
and is unaware of what to do. Everything he sees looks to him as totally opposite of what he came
from. The language, dressing, working style, and living style everything is new for him. The author of
one out of many takes a lot of care while giving

Roller Coaster Research Paper
The theme of my roller coaster is a snake. The coaster is called the Slithering Serpent. The materials
that I used to create my roller coaster are: popsicle sticks, paper, paint, rocks from my backyard,
ribbon, a bag and a half of hot glue sticks and a sharpie.
Potential energy is created from the combination of mass, gravity, and height. Ever notice how many
roller coasters start out with a tall hill? This is meant to build as much potential energy as possible. It s
like stretching a rubber band as far as you can. The farther you stretch it, the farther it will fly when
you let go. Once your coaster gets over the hill, it then starts to gain kinetic energy. This is the type of
energy that helps to push you through whatever twists and turns

Cancer Screening
Care Services and Cancer Screenings
There are a wide variety of cancer types. They all have several things in common, however. Each
cancer starts with cells that become abnormal or cancerous. These cells reproduce and form a mass of
cancerous cells. This mass is called a tumor. When the cancerous cells spread, or metastasize, they can
impact other tissues, organs, and systems of the body. A second commonality among cancers is that
when they are detected early, they are easier to treat and the treatments are more likely to work. In
many cases, a cancer that is caught early can be completely destroyed.
The primary way to detect cancer is through cancer screenings. Screening are simply routine checks
that take place prior to body showing signs ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The benefits far outweigh those risks, but it is still important to be informed. Some of the risks of
cancer screenings include false positive results that lead to great emotional turmoil and/or needless
treatment; false negative results, which give a person undue confidence in their health when they
actually have a serious condition; and actual damage to the body during the test, such a punctured
colon during a colonoscopy.
It is also important to remember that screenings can only detect cancer. They are not a cure, and even
if the cancer is detected, it does not mean that the cancer will always be eradicated. Early detections
does significantly increase the odds of success, however.
Senior care services can help your senior loved one keep up on their annual exams and schedule
screenings as necessary. Further, they are able to provide the transportation to and from appointments.
This is particularly important with screening such as a colonoscopy where anesthesia is used. Senior
care personnel can also be there to provide care for your loved one while they are recovering from
these procedures, as some can be quite

Analysis of Bladerunner Essay
Introduction
In the science of studying media and communication, there are many different ways of approaching
the subject in which you are going to analyse. That is to analyse advertisements, texts, TV series, films
etc. and other media. My task for this assignment is to give an analysis of a film of my choice. A film
is a quite complex medium to analyse; thus it is important to have analysis quot;tools quot; or some
criteria to follow. In my analysis I am asked to consider the use and resolution of binary opposition
and through analysis of narrative structure. In my assignment I am going to consider how the couple is
represented, and how the narrative structure and binary oppositions have influence on the plot of the
story. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
According to Todorov (in O Shaugnessy, 1999, p. 107) there is a basic standard to narratives. In the
start of the narrative, there is a stable situation (equilibrium) that is disrupted (disequilibrium) by a
quot;villainous force quot; (Todorov in Taylor, L., amp; Willis, A., 1999, p. 76). This stable situation is
restored in the end of the narrative. Or as O Sullivan et al. says quot;A meets B; something happens;
order returns quot; (O Sullivan et al., 1994, p. 195).
According to Turner quot;most films start by establishing the lines of conflict which will determine or
motivate the events and actions of the story quot;(1988, p.85). The opening sequence of Blade Runner
displays the main conflict. Holden, who is a human interrogator, is killed by the replicant Leon. These
are opposing forces that set the main conflict or the plot of the story.
However, this theory is not too easy to apply to Blade Runner. The movie does not start with what
Todorov calls equilibrium (O Shaughnessey, 1999, p 107). In BR the equilibrium is quite diffuse.
Even though the situation is going to get more unstable throughout the movie, there is a lack of
stability, or plenitude, here. Deckard is in the middle of the chaos existing in Los Angeles in 2019, in a
hostile atmosphere.
The disequilibrium starts when Roy and Leon (two replicants) enter the eye laboratory of the Tyrell
Corporation. It is the first time in the film we encounter the replicants cold and

Jim Blatt s This American Life
Jim Blatt, who recently moved back to Boston after living in Charlotte for 12 years, joined TIAA

Analysis Of Jan Van Eyck s The Wedding Portrait
Jan Van Eyck began his career as an artist in 1422 and continued until his death in 1441. While Van
Eyck was active, he created many well known paintings. According to John Haber, Van Eyck was a
portraitist who was the first to paint in oils (pg.1). One of his most famous works is Wedding Portrait,
or Giovanni Arnolfini and His Bride. This painting depicts a man and a woman holding hands in
matrimony with many symbolic objects surrounding them. The painting was created in 1434 and
currently resides at the National Gallery in London. Haber states that The Wedding Portrait, confront
us with a reconstruction rather than a mere representation of the visible world (pg.1). Haber s quote
shows how that The Wedding Portrait has a complex ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Then he used the chandelier, curtains, and other accessories to bring visual pleasure to the viewer. The
objects in the painting are easily identifiable, so Van Eyck most likely used contour lines. He also
most likely used a multipoint perspective, because he gave the image a dramatic emphasis. He drew
the room dark with only the light from the window coming in. This can be seen as if God is shining
his light on their marriage, thus creating a dramatic effect. These elements found in the painting can
give the viewer a deeper understanding behind the complex meaning of Jan Van Eyck s Wedding
Portrait. Jan Van Eyck used composition throughout the work to give the viewer a better
understanding of the painting. As show in Figure 1, Wedding Portrait, an asymmetrical balance is used
in the painting. This means that if the painting were to be cut in half, it would not mirror or reflect
itself. There is no rhythm present in Wedding Portrait, because there is no repetition of elements. In
Figure 1, nothing seems to be out of proportion or scaled to a different size. The painting does seem to
have emphasis and accents, and unity throughout the work. The emphasis in the painting are Giovanni
Arnolfini and his wife, because as show in Figure 1, they are in the front of the painting to show that
they are the main focal point. The accents in art, are the lesser focal points of the painting. In Wedding
Portrait

Extraterrestrial Life Or Alien Life
For a long time, there has been a dispute on whether or not extraterrestrial life or alien life exists. The
discovery may not be in the near future, but it is more than likely to happen. Someday we might be
able to identify a planet and say that it is just like Earth. Finding life outside of Earth is within reach.
Extraterrestrial life is not a myth and there are many reasons why such as evidence from National
Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA), discovery of Earth like planets that orbit a sunlike
star, and discoveries on planets closer to Earth. Many scientists believe that we are one of many
species in the universe that exist on more planets than just Earth. It would be silly if someone did not
believe that there is life on some of the billions of planets to exist in our galaxy alone. NASA has
found evidence of another potential solar system. This is a collection of stars orbiting around a single
star and is located around 39 light years from Earth. Nasa s telescope team said it had found a system
of seven planets that were all similar in size to Earth (Gaffey). The planets formed farther out from
Trappist 1 and then moved inward. This makes it more likely that they could contain some form of
water. Volatile compounds (molecules that easily turn to gas) like water are usually concentrated
further out in star systems. The fourth, fifth, and six planets orbit in the star s habitable zone so they
are particularly likely to have liquid water on their surface. This

Schumpeter believe that management theory it Is becoming a collection of dead ideas. In other words,
he believe that most of what we learn today about management is outdated and do not accurately
describe how businesses operating in today s society. He opens his article by comparing management
theory to the reformation. At first the comparison seem unrelated but as I read along I realized that his
analogy was not so far fetched. The gist is that management theory is like the Catholic church because
in the 16th century the Catholic Church way of doing had numerous theological errors. So Martin
Luther, a Monk, came up with 95 these to fix the problem; his thesis gave birth to the modern world.
Schumpeter believe that Like the Catholic church, management theory needs to be reform. ... Show

The first theory is the idea that businesses are more competitive than ever. He states that popular
management theory books emphasize that we live in a world where businesses are always competing
with other businesses and that even a large corporation are constantly being disrupted. He argues that
what we are seeing in today s economy is consolidation. He states that since 2008 more than 30,000
deals a year worth 3% of the GDP is a result of consolidation. Schumpeter believe that the reason why
consolidation is so popular is because companies are enjoying record profits. I do agree with
Schumpeter that more company consolidating instead of competing. I constantly hear of large
companies taking over other companies. For example, Atena, one of America s largest insurance
company as partnered up with CVS

Low Carb diets are Reckless and Dangerous?
The Medical and sports nutrition establishment are horrified by the concept of low carbohydrate and
ketogenic diets. While studies are being released almost daily proving the superiority of low carb diets
for fat loss, the medical establishment warns against trying them as the long term health risks are
unknown . Apparently it is a case of better the devil you know than the devil you don t .
Dangerous because we don t know IF they re safe
This fence sitting attitude is an absolutely inexcusable disgrace! The devil we know a devil only
revealed as a result of the high carb recommendations is epidemic levels of obesity, diabetes, cancer,
heart disease and depression. Is there any possibility of the unknown risk being worse than the
sickness that the health department recommendations have caused? I think not!
There Might be Side Effects
It is the most patronising hypocrisy that the Medical community warn against using a treatment (low
carb dieting) PROVEN to cure a disease state

Technology And The Positive Effects Of Information Technology
Information technology is the study or use of systems, such as computers and smartphones, for
storing, retrieving, and sending information. In our society today, it has become more common to own
a smartphone. A survey ran in 2015 regarding the ownership of these devices demonstrated that 68%
of U.S. adults have a smartphone, rising about 35% since 2011, and tablet ownership is at 45% among
adults (PEW Research Center). As of right now technology is becoming a threat to the way we live.
Even though technology has created positive impacts in society, it has caused a barrier in human
interaction, inactivity in daily life, and has lead to the spread of false news on social platforms.
Technology affects the way individuals communicate, learn, and think. It helps define society and
determines how one interacts with others on a daily basis. Over the years, technological advancements
have contributed to the barrier in communication that society suffers from today. A study done by the
International Center for Media the Public Agenda (ICMPA) found that 1 in 4 people spend time
socializing online (Hampton). Through the growing popularity and usage of social media platforms, it
has become more simple to remain in contact with others through online platforms. Although it is
great to keep in touch with distant friends and relatives, many individuals have taken advantage of this
opportunity. A poll ran by Statista determined that the percent of Americans who has a social media

It is a condition that has affected the learning and concentration of many children in school since it is characterized by students making careless mistakes in school work, problems in sustaining attention and the difficulty to follow instructions given (National Institutes of Health, 2016). These are some of the reason that compelled me to choose the topic and focus on music as therapy for children with ADHD. One of that main reasons why I took interest in this topic was finding out one of my nephews was diagnosed with ADHD. Having a first had look at ADHD is difficult, teaching in a classroom of eight children who were diagnosed with ADHD was already normal for me, but once you see it change the life of one of your loved ones was one of the hardest things my family has encountered. He was prescribed 10 milligrams of Focalin, which is used as a stimulant for the central nervous system. This medication is used to treat ADHD, but it has a few harsh side effects which include loss of appetite, fevers, and stomach pain. Observing my nephew on this new medication ... • 4. The Strangers That Came And Town By Ambrose Flack Freedom is a birthright for all humans, we should always feel accepted to speak our minds and be who we are. In his short story, The Strangers that Came to Town , Ambrose Flack is showing that true freedom is about being accepted. He shows this through the characterization of Mrs. Duvitch, Mr. Duvitch and Andy. Mrs. Duvitch s quiet and reserved nature made her the ideal victim of rumors. The less people knew about her the more room left for their imaginations. For example she is said to be the victim of an obscure skin disease and that every morning she shook scales out of the bed sheet (3). The rumors began to cease after her dinner party with Andy s family where her true nature began to be revealed. Following the dinner party, Andy s mother invites her to a tea party Where her delicate manners, and the fine needlework which engaged her, won the approval of the local housewives who were present (15). Showing her embroidery skills helped her connect with the ladies of the town. Embroidery is a way she expresses herself and after feeling comfortable with the ladies she revealed that side of her. When she felt accepted by the ladies, Mrs. Duvitch was finally confident enough to invite them to her house. After a while Mrs. Duvitch found courage to ask these people into her house (16). It will then summarise how we commonly define a liberal democracy and what are its recognisable features within a pluralist context such as in Britain. Finally, it will ask how Marxists might view the above as affecting participation in such a political system. Overall this essay will outline the uneven distribution of power Marxism sees in a capitalist, liberal democratic society; the class conflict this is based on, and the negative, repressive effect this has on political participation. Here he confirms how politics, through the state, acts as a vehicle for the elevation of bourgeois interests, cementing their power above that of the proletariat. One implicit critique of the economic determinism of Marxism came from within the analysis itself. Gramsci believed the role of civil society (schools, family, church) was as important as economics and the modes of production. He thought that without greater acknowledgement of the role ideology, consciousness and cultural hegemony played in society, the dominant capitalist ideology could not be understood and thus its power challenged. However, as De Orellana says (De Orellana, 2015) though Gramsci was harshly critical of what he called the vulgar historical materialism and economism of Marxism, as a Marxist he assumed the fundamental importance of the economy . A liberal democracy can be defined by a democratic recognition of the rights and freedoms of the individual, with the law limiting unbridled exercise of political power, by means of regular elections, freedom of; speech, association, religion and rule of law etc. By common recognition, pluralism is now considered to be part and parcel of liberal democratic societies. • 8. The Theories of Bandura versus Erikson How does an infant develop into an adult? The answer is not as obvious as it seems. There are a variety of factors that contribute to human development. A person not only grows physically but also cognitively and socio emotionally. This paper will explain two theories; one cognitive and one socio emotional; about human development. The two theories will be described, compared, contrasted and individually evaluated based on the strong points and limitations. The first theory examined is Albert Bandura s social cognitive/learning theory. A child does not automatically know how to interpret their environment, but they can learn about the world around them and how to manipulate their surroundings by observing people around them. According to Bandura (2002), Viewed from the sociocognitive perspective, human nature is characterised [sic] by a vast potentiality that can be fashioned by direct and vicarious experience into a variety of forms within biological limits (pp. 271 272). Although a large amount of learning from watching other people happens in childhood, a person can acquire new skills or knowledge at any point in their life with the help of other people. The second theory examined is Erik Erikson s eight stages of psychosocial development. Each stage in Erikson s theory involves a conflict/crisis that a person must work through to evolve their personality. Rosenthal (1981) explains that, Each stage arises because a new dimension of social interaction ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Comparison Of Rita Hayworth And The Shawshank Redemption In Rita Hayworth and the Shawshank Redemption, Stephen King writes about what it is like to be a prisoner for life, and how being in prison can change a person and their morals. Throughout the book, the narrator, Red, constantly discusses hope and it is the key to enduring each day in Shawshank Prison by applying anaphora and symbolism. Red portrays the suffering that Andy faces in prison and how it was through his mental and physical strength that he was not only able to survive in prison but also escape. The charm depicted in these characters has made them so appealing to young children that becoming an actual prince or princess is practically every kid s fantasy. Some parents and educators find these characters appropriate and harmless to be shown to kids; however, many may argue that these characters have a negative influence on kids. In three different versions of the classic fairy tale Cinderella Charles Perrault s Cinderella: Or, The Little Glass Slipper, The Grimm Brothers Ashputtle, and Tanith Lee s When The Clock Strikes, The most well known story of all demonstrates that Princes and princesses do not serve as good role models because they give children the impression of unrealistic standards of beauty by promoting poor self image, they impose false hope that every relationship ends happily, and they teach unrealistic morals. Princes and princesses are portrayed in a way that puts so much emphasis on physical beauty which increases poor self esteem in young children. • 27. The Gaze On Women s Cinema Abigail Brill Long Proposal 24 February 2015 The Gaze on Women in Cinema Cinema has a very powerful influence on us, whether we are aware of it or not. Cinema tells us, in a way of reflection, how we are to act and respond as a society. For example, in movies women with body hair are portrayed as shamed, unhygienic, and usually rejects to sexual advances. I ve started to recognize these consistent stigmas, but this is just one example of what I believe makes the male gaze so successfully prevalent in American cinema. Starting in the 1970s, women have been portrayed in film through various misogynistic lenses: the male gaze, voyeurism, and sexual objectification; these lenses are still rampant today in modern American film. Apparently, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... These films are not creative; they are mere replications of an era in film started as early as the 1960s. American film has been using the enticing appeal of women s bodies to subtlety promote aggressive voyeurism since films such as Hitchcock s Rear Window, and David Lynch s film Blue Velvet. Voyeurism and spectatorship are exemplified in Hitchcock s film Rear Window from 1954. The film is focused around the situation of the main character, Jeff, looking through his binoculars into a woman s apartment across from him. The film employs a powerful photographic lens with its use of cut shots that only show Jeff s optical perspective. Hitchcock uses a standard eyeline match pattern, cutting from a shot of Jeff looking to a shot of what he sees. Since there is no establishing shot that shows both Jeff and the opposite apartment, the Kuleshov effect operates here: our mind connects the two images. More specifically, the second shot represents Jeff s optical viewpoint, and this is filmed from a position on his end of the axis of action. The camera has not crossed a line. We are strongly restricted to what Jeff sees and what (he thinks) he knows. He first concentrated on a cathartic method to release repressed emotions associated with past experiences and then began to focus on a free association method and the development of transference (Messer, 2001). Underlying the psychoanalytic perspective is the idea of the unconscious. The unconscious is where past experiences and true emotions are hidden. Manifestation of an undesirable trait, such as anger, along with excessive use of defense mechanisms lead to the assumption of a deeper conflict hidden within the unconscious. Psychodynamic techniques try to gain access to the unconscious and make the patient aware of the underlying conflict (Phares and Trull, 2001). • 42. Analysis of Bladerunner Essay Introduction In the science of studying media and communication, there are many different ways of approaching the subject in which you are going to analyse. That is to analyse advertisements, texts, TV series, films etc. and other media. My task for this assignment is to give an analysis of a film of my choice. A film is a quite complex medium to analyse; thus it is important to have analysis quot;tools quot; or some criteria to follow. In my analysis I am asked to consider the use and resolution of binary opposition and through analysis of narrative structure. In my assignment I am going to consider how the couple is represented, and how the narrative structure and binary oppositions have influence on the plot of the story. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... According to Todorov (in O Shaugnessy, 1999, p. 107) there is a basic standard to narratives. In the start of the narrative, there is a stable situation (equilibrium) that is disrupted (disequilibrium) by a quot;villainous force quot; (Todorov in Taylor, L., amp; Willis, A., 1999, p. 76). This stable situation is restored in the end of the narrative. Or as O Sullivan et al. says quot;A meets B; something happens; order returns quot; (O Sullivan et al., 1994, p. 195). According to Turner quot;most films start by establishing the lines of conflict which will determine or motivate the events and actions of the story quot;(1988, p.85). The opening sequence of Blade Runner displays the main conflict. Holden, who is a human interrogator, is killed by the replicant Leon. These are opposing forces that set the main conflict or the plot of the story. However, this theory is not too easy to apply to Blade Runner. The movie does not start with what Todorov calls equilibrium (O Shaughnessey, 1999, p 107). In BR the equilibrium is quite diffuse. Even though the situation is going to get more unstable throughout the movie, there is a lack of stability, or plenitude, here. Deckard is in the middle of the chaos existing in Los Angeles in 2019, in a hostile atmosphere. The disequilibrium starts when Roy and Leon (two replicants) enter the eye laboratory of the Tyrell Corporation. It is the first time in the film we encounter the replicants cold and ... • 44. Analysis Of Jan Van Eyck s The Wedding Portrait Jan Van Eyck began his career as an artist in 1422 and continued until his death in 1441. While Van Eyck was active, he created many well known paintings. According to John Haber, Van Eyck was a portraitist who was the first to paint in oils (pg.1). One of his most famous works is Wedding Portrait, or Giovanni Arnolfini and His Bride. This painting depicts a man and a woman holding hands in matrimony with many symbolic objects surrounding them. The painting was created in 1434 and currently resides at the National Gallery in London. Haber states that The Wedding Portrait, confront us with a reconstruction rather than a mere representation of the visible world (pg.1). Haber s quote shows how that The Wedding Portrait has a complex ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Then he used the chandelier, curtains, and other accessories to bring visual pleasure to the viewer. The objects in the painting are easily identifiable, so Van Eyck most likely used contour lines. He also most likely used a multipoint perspective, because he gave the image a dramatic emphasis. He drew the room dark with only the light from the window coming in. This can be seen as if God is shining his light on their marriage, thus creating a dramatic effect. These elements found in the painting can give the viewer a deeper understanding behind the complex meaning of Jan Van Eyck s Wedding Portrait. Jan Van Eyck used composition throughout the work to give the viewer a better understanding of the painting. As show in Figure 1, Wedding Portrait, an asymmetrical balance is used in the painting. This means that if the painting were to be cut in half, it would not mirror or reflect itself. There is no rhythm present in Wedding Portrait, because there is no repetition of elements. In Figure 1, nothing seems to be out of proportion or scaled to a different size. The painting does seem to have emphasis and accents, and unity throughout the work. The emphasis in the painting are Giovanni Arnolfini and his wife, because as show in Figure 1, they are in the front of the painting to show that they are the main focal point. The accents in art, are the lesser focal points of the painting. In Wedding Portrait ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 45. Extraterrestrial Life Or Alien Life For a long time, there has been a dispute on whether or not extraterrestrial life or alien life exists. The discovery may not be in the near future, but it is more than likely to happen. Someday we might be able to identify a planet and say that it is just like Earth. Finding life outside of Earth is within reach. Extraterrestrial life is not a myth and there are many reasons why such as evidence from National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA), discovery of Earth like planets that orbit a sunlike star, and discoveries on planets closer to Earth. Many scientists believe that we are one of many species in the universe that exist on more planets than just Earth. It would be silly if someone did not believe that there is life on some of the billions of planets to exist in our galaxy alone. NASA has found evidence of another potential solar system. This is a collection of stars orbiting around a single star and is located around 39 light years from Earth. Nasa s telescope team said it had found a system of seven planets that were all similar in size to Earth (Gaffey). The planets formed farther out from Trappist 1 and then moved inward. This makes it more likely that they could contain some form of water. Volatile compounds (molecules that easily turn to gas) like water are usually concentrated further out in star systems. The fourth, fifth, and six planets orbit in the star s habitable zone so they are particularly likely to have liquid water on their surface. This ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In other words, he believe that most of what we learn today about management is outdated and do not accurately describe how businesses operating in today s society. He opens his article by comparing management theory to the reformation. At first the comparison seem unrelated but as I read along I realized that his analogy was not so far fetched. The first theory is the idea that businesses are more competitive than ever. He states that popular management theory books emphasize that we live in a world where businesses are always competing with other businesses and that even a large corporation are constantly being disrupted. He argues that what we are seeing in today s economy is consolidation. He states that since 2008 more than 30,000 deals a year worth 3% of the GDP is a result of consolidation. Schumpeter believe that the reason why consolidation is so popular is because companies are enjoying record profits. I do agree with Schumpeter that more company consolidating instead of competing. I constantly hear of large companies taking over other companies. For example, Atena, one of America s largest insurance company as partnered up with CVS ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Technology And The Positive Effects Of Information Technology Information technology is the study or use of systems, such as computers and smartphones, for storing, retrieving, and sending information. In our society today, it has become more common to own a smartphone. A survey ran in 2015 regarding the ownership of these devices demonstrated that 68% of U.S. adults have a smartphone, rising about 35% since 2011, and tablet ownership is at 45% among adults (PEW Research Center). As of right now technology is becoming a threat to the way we live. Even though technology has created positive impacts in society, it has caused a barrier in human interaction, inactivity in daily life, and has lead to the spread of false news on social platforms. Technology affects the way individuals communicate, learn, and think. It helps define society and determines how one interacts with others on a daily basis. Over the years, technological advancements have contributed to the barrier in communication that society suffers from today. A study done by the International Center for Media the Public Agenda (ICMPA) found that 1 in 4 people spend time socializing online (Hampton). Through the growing popularity and usage of social media platforms, it has become more simple to remain in contact with others through online platforms.
