Tobacco Advertising Is Illegal but Alcohol Is Not. Is This...
COMM 3P14 Media Industries Tobacco Advertising is Illegal, but Advertising for Alcohol is not, Is
This Hypocritical? Rebecca Stewart 4574927 Russell Johnston Seminar 3 November 11, 2012
Advertisements are a vital part of any company s marketing strategy, and are used to inform or
persuade an audience about a certain product or service. In fact, North American companies are
among the world s highest advertisers (Boone et al., 2010, 502). Today, an average consumer is
exposed to hundreds of advertisements every day. It is when these companies attempt to promote a
dangerous product that restrictions must be, and have been put in place. For several years, Canada s
regulations on tobacco advertisements have become stricter, while ... Show more content on

Marketers should make responsible decisions, and not just focus on generating profits, because it is
legal. Ads should address audiences not just as consumers who care about material interests but as
citizens who care about social virtues and the public good (Hove, 2009, 35). The idea of advertising
alcoholic beverages is unethical. While there are mild restrictions in Canada regarding alcohol
promotions, there is a demand for more. Some provinces run ads that promote responsible drinking, or
the dangers of drinking and driving in an attempt to shed light on alcohol abuse (Boone, 2010, 525).
However, these attempts do not cancel out the multitude of beer and liquor advertisements in today s
media. Some alcohol advertisements include the ideology that drinking a certain brand of beer will
influence their social class, or improve their quality of life in some way. This is extremely
controversial. An article from the South African Journal of Psychology notes, there are no laws against
[alcohol] advertisements; however, responsible corporate and professional action, would prevent the
use of these advertisements from a social and moral standpoint (Dubihela amp; Dubihela, 2011, 209).
Clearly, an ethical dilemma is present. The Canadian Radio television and Telecommunications
Commission is one organization that has viewed alcohol advertisements critically. Since 1968 they
have required broadcasters to report the number of alcohol related

Mathematical and Musical Harmony
For most people, mathematics is an unsolvable puzzle characterized by the impression of numbers and
calculations taught in school. It is often associated with feelings of rejection and disinterest. To the
general population mathematics appears to be to be strictly rational, abstract, cold and soulless. Music,
however, is involved with emotion, with feelings, and with life. It exists in all daily routines. Everyone
has sung a song, pressed a key on a piano, or blown into a flute, and therefore, in some sense, made
music. People can easily interact with it. Music is a way of expression and a part of everyone s
existence. The incentive for investigating the connections between these two apparent opposites
therefore is in the least ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This proportion can not only be found in geometric forms (for example the length of a diagonal related
to the length of an edge in a regular pentagon), but also in nature (for example the length of the trunk
in relation to the diameter of some particular trees, such as the
Norway spruce). Due to its consideration as well balanced, beautiful and dynamic, the golden section
has found various applications in the arts, especially in painting and photography, where important
elements often divide a picture s length or width (or both) following the golden proportion. However,
such a division is not necessarily undertaken consciously, but results from an impression of beauty and
harmony. Diverse studies have discovered that this same concept is also very common in musical
compositions. The golden section expressed by Fibonacci ratios is either used to generate rhythmic
changes or to develop a melody line Examples of deliberate applications can be found in the widely
used Schillinger System of Musical Composition or concretely in the first movement of Béla Bartók s
piece Music for Strings, Percussion and Celeste , where, for instance, the climax is situated at bar 55
of 89. Furthermore, Rothwell s study has revealed examples of the golden proportion in various
musical periods. While the characteristics of the examined compositions varied greatly, the importance

Teenage Stereotypes
Lazy, Disrespectful, Selfish, Technology Crazed. These are just a few of the words that come to mind
when the typical adult describes the everyday teenager. To some, these descriptions are taken as a
given fact and lack recognition of the issue this poses to the individuals on the receiving end of such.
This is the exact issue present in discrimination and stereotyping. For years, a specific group of
individuals has been reduced to the negative connotations presented against them by every other group
that lacks such quality such as their race, gender, appearance, age ...etc. Every instance applicable
contains the common ground in which the other groups fail to recognize the harm in their superficial
classifications of one another due to narrow minded tendencies. This is the basis to every single form
of discrimination. An incredibly oppressed group who is by far, no stranger to these circumstances are
teens who continuously receive the hostility of adults for simply belonging to their age group. Present
day teenagers have come to be placed in an inaccurate box that classifies them as a selfish, immature
group by adults due several factors, the most prominent being the media and the form it introduces
teens to the average adult. The constant incorrect portrayal of teens in movies, t.v. and other platforms
has caused adult audiences to believe these classifications and thus, cause several issues to be inflicted
upon teens in several areas of their lives that calls for

The Importance Of Government Intervention In Healthcare
Healthcare is a widely debated topic that affects millions of people in this country, whether one is for
universal healthcare or against it. Millions of people across this country have had to deal with
healthcare one way or another. Having the government intervene in such matters makes things
complicated from Cost to HIPPA and Interventions. The purpose of this paper is to discuss why
government intervention should be limited in terms of healthcare.
The first major reason why government intervention poses a problem for most people is the cost. Most
people do not have the means to deal with healthcare without some type of intervention from the
government but the type of intervening they need may cost them more than they were ready to take
on. As costs increase, we hear or read almost daily that some 39 to 40 million people are without
insurance for medical care. (Grosse). This is due to the rising in cost that the government has put on its
citizens. While the government tries it s best to ensure that everyone is well covered there are still
certain situations that cause people to have to pay tremendous amounts of money out of pocket for
medication and supplies necessary for them. A recent government report stated that for Medicare
alone, more than $2 billion dollars is lost every month due to waste, mismanagement, and fraud.
(Grosse). This causes family across the country to have to make up for this loss by paying for it
themselves, and due to the mismanagement of our

Compare and Contrast Excalibur to Malory:
Introduction
Le Morte d Arthur is the cautiously assembled fable of the fluctuation of this legendary English
monarchy. Which like most kingdoms in that era; are suspect to fall due to domestic and foreign forces
that pledge to destroy them. This myth s power come from Malory s electoral allusion s, such as the
introduction of Arthur s rule and Henry s rule over the kingdom. The relevance for any civilization or
the focus of which forces are necessary to end the kingdom s reign by way of Malory s uninviting
perspective. The fable is held together by its undeviating philosophy of doom and terror as well as the
portrayal of complex personalities. Compare
Arthur, is the son of King Uther and is raised by another family. Who soon takes his rightful place as
king. As a young lad, Arthur extracts the magical sword Excalibur from the stone and rules his
kingdom wisely. He also seeks and utilizes counsel from Merlin the magician. He is considered a great
king, but is often caught in battles or at war with other Kings. Once Arthur marries Genevere and is
given the Round Table , which seats 150 merry men. Genevere s honorable mannerism acts as a moral
compass for the men at the Round Table. She was fair and impartial when compensating or penalizing
the knights. However, just like most fables the treachery comes from within the kingdom. With

Positive And Negative Impacts Of A Family Member Passing Away
Our lives do not always go as planned and sometimes events happen that are not expected or wanted,
but we have to find a way to cope with it, especially if it is something that can not be changed. Every
person in the world can relate to this feeling or situation happening at least once in their lifetime, most
people many more. The events of our lives can vary from positive to negative and range from
marriage to a family member passing away, along with everything in between. Depending on the
situation and outcome, we will have different ways to accept and understand because not all humans
are exactly alike. Our futures are not set in stone and one little decision or mistake can change the
whole outcome of life for some people. With that in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
With this in mind, in Hawthorne s Scarlet Letter two of the main characters are Hester and
Dimmesdale. Both made some choices that were not really accepted by society. When Hester and
Dimmesdale made their mistake they probably were not expecting to be caught. Out of lust, more than
likely just living in the heat of the moment, there was no thinking before the act. However, since a
child was brought into the picture that was not Hester s husbands, the town knew that Hester had
committed adultery and Hester would have to deal with the consequences. Being the father of the
child and not wanting to get caught, especially for the reason that he was a minister, Dimmesdale tries
to keep his wrongdoings a secret because all of the townspeople look up to him. The town expects
Dimmesdale to be perfect and make no mistakes, but as a human he does, so Dimmesdale tries to
cover everything up to support his created image. If Dimmesdale would have confessed, it would
result in a loss of his job and trust of the people, which Dimmesdale would not allow happen. Since
Dimmesdale was not willing to face the consequences of the mistake, he thought best to just hide the
fact of what happened and move on with life. Hester did not have a choice to hide like Dimmesdale

Foreshadowing In The Chocolate War
The Chocolate War by Robert Cormier is a book that provides a sneak peek behind the scenes at the
harmony before the havoc. The book provides a look at how one person fights through the battle of
finding oneself, trying to fix a mistake they made, and how it affects those around them. The Chocolate
War begins with the line They murdered him. An opening that, at first lead to confusion, then became
an enormous point of foreshadowing in the story. The author begins by creating a sensory image of our
characters playing football, getting injured, and leading the reader to believe that this is what the story
would be about. The book really is leading the reader into a complex cast of characters ranging from a

difficult tasks that could potentially get those students in trouble. The Vigils consist of Archie Costello

every possible thing to stay in the Vigils good graces such as handing out Archie s assignments. At this
point it seems as though the teachers have no chance at getting their school back, until the persistent
headmaster Brother Leon steps in to ask Archie and the Vigils for help selling the excessively ordered
20,000 boxes of chocolate at $2 a box. That s when The Chocolate War begins. Any time Archie hands

assignment stands. Jerry Renault just so happened to be one of the unlucky freshman chosen for an

Homeless Minors
In the past couple of years, the number of homeless individuals have been on the rise in Nevada. In
this mass increase, the population mostly consists of homeless individuals under the age of eighteen.
These minors are mostly unaccompanied, with no adults to teach them right or wrong. Being homeless
and on the streets, it gives the minors less chances in life and it also influences them to act out
negatively in society. The number of homeless teens have been skyrocketing and the problem is that
with the amount we have now it might be hard to control in the future. In Clark County, there has been
a vast increase in the number of homeless individuals. The number of homeless people has increased
from 7,443 to 7,509 in the past year. (Amaro). ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The homeless minors have no one to look up to as a role model and have limited amounts of
resources. This can result in the minors doing deviant actions such as stealing. In the past month, there
has been many cases of young adults and minors breaking into neighborhood houses and robbing
families. Around a month ago, there was a situation that I witnessed where this young teen was going
around a neighborhood stealing items from various houses. During that time, I was also notified that
these types of situations have been occurring a lot recently. Aside from this incident, a couple months
back a teen went into my aunt s shop and attempted to steal some of her belongings. This problem not
only affects society, but mainly the minors who are committing these crimes. Whether or not these
homeless individuals do the right thing or the wrong they still get punished for being homeless. All
they want to do is pass you along, so they can get on to their next problem. A lot of the time if you are
homeless they would arrest you for basically being homeless (Elko Daily Free Press). This can result
in the teens having negative influences throughout their most impressionable times in their life. Being
exposed to such environments at a young age will affect their ways as they grow older. The minors
who are homeless usually do not have efficient amounts of resources for them to use. Even though,

China Between The Republic Of China
After The Chinese Civil War ended in 1950, a separation of old China between the Republic of China
(ROC, commonly known as Taiwan ) and the People s Republic of China (PRC, commonly known as
China ) created legal and political dilemmas (Hsieh, 2016). They both declare the island of Taiwan is
an integral part of their territories. Until the 1990s, Taiwan was able to conquer her diplomatic
isolation by expanding the international trade and investment flows to all of her business partners
regardless of official government recognitions (Chow, 2016). The nation s per capita income rises
from $1,869 to $46,500 in nearly four decades since 1979, higher than that of the United Kingdom.
Taiwan is the world s twentieth largest exporter, having the relatively low underclass population (1.5
percent of the population). In 2016, her foreign exchange reserves are estimated to reach the world s
top five, at approximately 433.5 billion US Dollar (Waldron, 2016).
However, the rapid development of China s economy and her enormous market potentiality give the
Chinese government leverages to influence Taiwan s international relationships; in fact, Taiwan s
exports to China, Hong Kong, and Macau combine more than one third of her total exports, and
Beijing makes no secret of her intention to take advantage of this dependence (Subba, 2016). For
instance, instead of using Republic of China , Taiwan was forced to use the name of Chinese Taipei to

Professional Athletes Paid
Have you ever thought that a professional athlete gets paid too much money? Professional athletes pay
is important because there are other jobs that have a bigger impact on the economy than these athletes.
When compared to salary for soldiers or teachers, professional athletes are overpaid in spite of the fact
that they can negatively influence our youth. The first problem is that the youth look up to these
athletes and they like to mock their behaviors. Today in our economy, professional athletes have a
huge impact on our youth. The actions that are performed by these players are closely examined by

On average an athlete makes five million dollars a year (Crite.) That s a lot of money, but what do they
for that money that benefits the community? Teachers on average are only making fifty five thousand

paid by tax money collected from taxpayers (KeithLee.) Which this is understandable since they are

why teachers should be getting less money than professional athletes. The country is paying teachers
just enough just to keep them around (National.) Which that seems like they think teachers are
unworthy of a higher salary. When compared to salary for soldiers or teachers, professional athletes
are overpaid in spite of the fact that they can negatively influence our youth. So, professional athletes
get paid too much. For the little they do for the economy and as much as what soldiers and teachers
do, they deserve a higher salary. The youth also is not benefited by them, but they are benefited from
these soldiers and teachers. If we don t realize the issue about these athlete s pay, our economy will

Michelangelo s David Essay
When thinking of sculptures, one of the first that comes to mind is David. This statue was created of
marble between 1501 and 1504 and stands over 14 feet high. David is a symbol that represents
strength and anger. The statue had intended political connotations for the ruling of the Medici family.
Michelangelo used David as model of heroic courage to demonstrate that spiritual strength can be
more effective than arms . Michelangelo insisted that David should stand as a symbol of the republic
and act as a warning that Florence shall be governed justly and bravely . This was the first time since
antiquity that a large nude statue be exhibited in a public place.

David is extremely buff, a quality that was highly revered during the Greek and Roman eras, and he
shows off the male body very well. He is in a slight contraposto stance, where the artist illustrates the
natural counterbalance of the body through the bending of the hips in one direction and the legs in
another direction.
The well defined muscular build is the ideal form to our culture today. Personally I strive to better
myself to be physically strong and muscular in appearance. Though David is a male model, he makes
a gorgeous physical role model for me. His facial expression is tense and determined, as it should be
before the battle of Goliath. Determination, fighting for what one stands for, is noble and stunning.
Unlike the David of Donatello, Michelangelo s David is not shown after conquering his enemy.
Instead, he is portrayed as an extremely athletic and manly character; the sculpture even depicts a
worried look cast upon David s face and the carved marble veins seem to pulse with anticipation as he
contemplates the upcoming fight. Cast over David s shoulder is his sling, and the stone is clutched in
his right hand. Michelangelo s David depicts the ideal youth who has just reached manhood and is
capable of great physical and intellectual feats, which is part of the classical tradition. Michelangelo s

Analysis Of The Film The Flies By F. Scott Fitzgerald
Artistically speaking, this film is beautiful. There was a lot of thought put into every detail from the
actors to the camera shots. The film seems to flow in beautiful manner from one scene to the next.
One piece of art in the film is the use of symbols. Each symbol is delicately placed in order to make
sense to any viewers that can pick up on them. One symbol is Nick s obsession with his Peace Lily. It
represents his obsession with the job. It is the only other thing he cares for because its needs are
simple and by the books. When he breaks it, it is supposed to symbolize his change of heart; that
somebody has taken the place of the lily. Another symbol in the film is the number 3. There are 3
murders that take place before people believe Nicholas. There are 3 people Nick tries to talk to in
order to get out of being sent to Sanford. Many lines are repeated 3 times over. This could be in
reference to fairytales always using the number 3, since this plot seems far fetched like a fairytale.
However, it could also be in reference to the trilogy of films that Wright and Pegg made together.
Then, there is the swan symbol. Swans typically symbolize grace, beauty, and peace. In the film,
though, the swans symbolize an overbearing distraction. Nicholas is constantly surrounded by them in
the hotel he stays at, which is rightly called The Swan Hotel . He is also charged with the task of
catching an escaped swan. This causes him to miss many chances to catch the perpetrators of

The Forces of Evil in Beowulf In Heaney s Beowulf, Beowulf has to fight three large forces of evil
that terrorize the citizens and himself in order to restore the balance between good and evil. The first
example of a force of evil in Beowulf is the monster Grendel. Before Beowulf shows up in Denmark,
Grendel has been terrorizing the mead hall there, killing the men who guarded it, the God cursed brute
was creating havoc: he grabbed thirty thirty men from their resting places and rushed to his lair
(Heaney 121 123). Grendel continues terrorizing the Danes for twelve winters before any sort of help
shows up. When Beowulf shows up to the Danish lands, he waits for Grendel to strike before making
his move to fend himself from Grendel s brutishness, His talon was raised to attack Beowulf/ He was
bearing in with open claws when the alert hero s comeback forestalled him utterly (745 748). Grendel
was ready to strike down Beowulf where he rest but Beowulf was able to protect himself from his
vicious attacks. After Grendel was slain by Beowulf, the balance was shifted towards the good and
Beowulf is showered with praise after defeating a large force of evil: You have won renown: you are
known to all men far and near, now and forever (1221 1222). After defeating the beast that no one else
could that had terrorized the people for many winters and restoring balance, King Hrothgar
compensates Beowulf with glory and riches. Another example of a force of evil in Beowulf is

My Writing And Writing Style Essay
Like transforming from a caterpillar to a butterfly, my writing style transformed from something
mediocre to something quite exceptional. In high school, even when I took advanced placement
English and Literature courses, I was never good at writing. My writing would lack structure,
reasoning, syntax, and a well defined thesis statement. My inadequate grades on writing assignments
lowered my self esteem, so I assumed I would never enjoy writing papers because I believed I could
never improve. However, since attending a university my writing style has improved far beyond my
expectation. My EN 101 course enhanced my understanding of the different ways I could approach
my writing. Also, it enhanced my comprehension of outlines to complete assignments. Investing
quality time into my writing made a substantial difference because I became a stronger writer.
Through the late nights, constant revisions, and agonizing head traumas, I learned that my writing is
truly spectacular whenever I incorporate well defined thesis statements, provide sufficient supporting
evidence, and maintain a clear focus in my assignments. My papers used to lack purpose and
organization because I did not know how to write a thesis statement, which is a road map for any
academic essay. After I submitted my second essay assignment for EN 101, I learned how to write a
well defined thesis statement that introduces my main ideas. The paper entitled The Secrets of Virtual
Scammers! contained a well defined

London Is The International Capital Of The World
It s safe to say that London is the international capital of the world, nestled perfectly in between the
west and the east, it has the ability to have an effect on the entire world culturally, politically, and
economically. It is for these reasons that London has emerged recently as the financial center of the
world. As regulation and immigration issues have slowed down New York, London has attracted
companies and investors that are looking for a save haven in turbulent times, London is seen as an
attractive location for foreign investment because it is seen as a very stable and secure city. Perhaps
the most attractive product that this international hub provides to foreign investors is real estate.
According to Financial Times, prime London housing prices have risen 73 percent from March 2009
to November 2014, this kind of substantial increase in property value is exactly what international
inventors are looking for (Norwood). Looking at Forbes study surveying where international investors
are putting their money proves this statement, 63% of investors increased their property portfolios in
the U.K. with London leading all European cities with 43% followed by Paris with 19% and Frankfurt
with 14% (Rapoza). Chief Executive of the Association of Foreign Investors in Real Estate said this
about the attractiveness of London, It s very easy to invest in London, there are no restrictions, the tax
regime is good for foreign investors. And it s an international city so it attracts

Essay on Economic Growth and Development
Economic growth is a necessary but not sufficient condition of economic development.
There is no single definition that encompasses all the aspects of economic development. The most
comprehensive definition perhaps of economic development is the one given by Todaro:
Development is not purely an economic phenomenon but rather a multi dimensional process involving
reorganization and re orientation of the entire economic and social system.
Development is a process of improving the quality of all human lives with three equally important
aspects. These are:
1. Raising peoples living levels, i.e. incomes and consumption, levels of food, medical services,
education through relevant growth processes.
2. Creating ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Amartya Sen defines economic development in terms of personal freedom, freedom to choose from a
range of options. While economic growth may lead to an increase in the purchasing power of people,
if the country has a repressed economy, there is lack of choice and hence personal freedom in
restricted. Hence once again growth has taken place without any development.
While economic growth may result in an improvement in the standard of living of a relatively small
proportion of the population whilst the majority of the population remains poor. It is how the
economic growth is distributed amongst the population that determines the level of development.
Taking into consideration the trickle down theory of economics by
Lewis, if the growth in economy is not sufficient to satisfy the needs and wants of the upper sections,
nothing or very little shall trickle down to the lower sections in the hierarchy of society. Thus, the gap
between the rich and poor widens and though economic growth has impacted a certain section of
society, this cannot be considered development. Another example is an increase in the defence output
of a nation, which accounts for an increased GDP but does not in any way contribute to economic
development.
Economic growth is not enough in itself to measure economic development as even if there has been a
leap in the income of people in a particular nation,

Pearl Harbor Bald Eagle Times #58 To the readers of the Bald Eagle Times newspaper and anyone
involved in the daily issues: As a newspaper reporter, I do my best to publish the cold hard truth,
without any introduction of bias towards anyone that may or may not have been involved, whether
that bias be directly or indirectly. This means a great deal of work on my part, and often I delay my
reporting of the news until I am sure that all the facts I have reported are correct. It also means that
before you get the truth, there are mobs of stories claiming to have nothing but the truth as told to me
by a witness or the inside scoop or the real deal. These newspapers are usually full of bologna,
exaggeration, what the readers want to hear, and other shenanigans. Thus is the case of the story that s
about to be told. It is the story of the December 7, 1941 attack on the American naval base in Pearl
Harbor, Hawaii, by the Japanese Empire. Although I was there, I still delayed my reporting until I was
sure I had all my facts straight. In this instance, however, I was not able to keep this article free of the
interjection of bias. This story, and more I fear are to come, are completely accurate, but not free of
the interjection of bias, though it was minimized. However the story is 100% fact. The empire of japan

My Sister Is A Two Time Breast Cancer Survivor Essay
My sister Kate was laying on a stretcher in the hallway of her local hospital with a badly broken ankle.
Her ankle was shattered, splintered, destroyed. And this was good news!
Kate s ankle was broken because she had slipped on snow covered ice during a blinding New England
snow storm, referred to by New Englanders as a Nor easter, while walking from her office to her car.
She was laying on a stretcher in the hospital hallway because many others in her town had met with
misfortune during this storm and were also in the hospital awaiting care and there was no room for
Kate except for where she lay. This was good news because Kate was in the hospital for something
other than the breast cancer she had been battling over the past several years. Good things can come in
odd packages sometimes.
My sister is a two time breast cancer survivor. The first time was an early diagnosis and routine
treatment that was successful. The second time was an aggressive, dark, menacing monster that was
dangerous and spreading. After chemotherapy, radiation and a complete mastectomy she had a long
road back to her normal self; or what would become her new normal. Kate is now healthy, active and
thriving but she has to keep an eye out for any sign that the monster is returning.
Kate s cancer journey was terrifying enough on its own but it lead me to my own terrifying journey.
Kate s breast cancer was not the only occurrence in my family. My maternal grandmother had

How Does Andy Warhol Show Signs Of A Death Effect
The main body of this paper compares Andy Warhol s auction data from 1985 to 1996 to Richard
Agnello s avant garde and general art market indexes for signs of a Death Effect. Compared against
both the avant garde and general art market, Warhol shows signs of a slight Death Effect.
This appendix examines Roy Lichtenstein s market for signs of a Death Effect as well. Lichtenstein
was older than Warhol and the usual artist whom the literature suggests can demonstrate a Death
Effect. Heinrich Ursprung and Christian Wiermann (2008) find that the ideal age to exhibit a death
effect is between 60 and 70 because younger artists are not well enough established and the market
already anticipates the death of older artists. To analyze Lichtenstein s ... Show more content on

The year after Lichtenstein s death was the only year Lichtenstein and the general market diverged. By

Lichtenstein s market generally followed the Dow Jones Industrial Average around Lichtenstein s

The Bedouin
The prophet Muhammad, born in 570 AD in Mecca, was raised by his uncle Abu Taleb as part of the
Quraysh tribe. When he was 25, Muhammad married a 40 year old business women, Khadijah, while
living out his days as a merchant. As the state of life in Mecca could at times be overwhelming,
Muhammad discovered a cave in Hira, which he used to disconnect from Mecca through meditation.
During a routine visit to the cave, Muhammad was visited by an angel, in human form, who revealed
Muhammad as God s messenger, urging him to relay the words of Allah to the citizens of Mecca and
beyond. Concerned about the possible reaction of his fellow Bedouins, who were grounded in their
polytheistic, ancestral tribes, Muhammad did not begin preaching God s word ... Show more content

The Bedouin had little interest in conventional religion, as speculation of supernatural higher powers
did not make any impact on their difficult environment (Reading 3, page 15). Because of their harsh,
nomadic lifestyle, the Bedouin instead evolved a chivalric code, which, seeing as they were extremely
communal, stressed the importance of protecting and avenging the tribe (Reading 3, page 15).
However, this chivalric code, known as Muruwah, only encouraged bravery and selflessness within
the context of the tribe, paying no attention to universal human rights (Reading 3, page 16). As such,
there were great acts of violence committed between various tribes, who following their own special
brands of Muruwah, were obligated to defend any actions of their tribal brethren. The prophet
Muhammad, a Bedouin himself, saw that the barbarity of the tribes was not conducive to prosperity in
Arabia. In his final sermon at mount Arafat in Mecca, prophet Muhammad relayed to listeners his
message, at one point saying, every Muslim is a brother to every Muslims and Muslims constitute one
brotherhood (Reading 2, page 11). The concept of brotherhood spoke clearly to the Bedouin, as it was
inline with their cultural traditions. Because the prophet was one of them and his message of stressing
community related to them, the Bedouin bought into the monotheistic religion of Islam. Moreover,
because members of the same tribe could not fight amongst each other, Bedouins who converted to
Islam brought about peace, ending the senseless violence between each

In the late 1800s Otto von Bismarck, the Chancellor of Prussia predicted that some damned foolish
thing in the Balkans would start another war. That is exactly what happened when Archduke Franz
Ferdinand of Austria Hungary visited the Balkans and was shot; this sparked World War 1. The killing
of the Archduke, however, is not the only reason for World War 1. There were actually four underlying
causes that led to World War 1: Militarism, Alliances, Imperialism, and Nationalism. All four of these
causes played their own part in leading to World War 1 and set off a chain of events that left Europe

BACKGROUND
As energy flows from a liquid, its temperature drops. The entropy, or random ordering of its particles,
also decreases until a specific ordering of the particles results in a phase change to a solid. If energy is
being released or absorbed by a substance remaining at the same temperature, this is evidence that a
dramatic change in entropy, such as a phase change, is occurring. Because all of the particles of a pure
substance are identical, they all freeze at the same temperature, and the temperature will not change
until the phase change is complete. If a substance is impure, the impurities will not lose energy in the

second ring stand beneath the test tube assembly. Place a wire gauze with ceramic center on the lower
ring. Set a third 600 mL beaker, which should be empty, on the gauze and raise the beaker toward the
test tube assembly until it surrounds nearly one half of the tube s length. The beaker will pass through
the ring clamp without gauze, and the test tube should not touch the bottom or sides of the beaker. The
top clamp keeps the beaker from tipping when the beaker is filled with the hot water.
PART 2 MELTING A SOLID: QUICK TEST
9. Check the temperature of the water for the hot water bath. When it is 85°C, turn off the burner or
hot plate. If the temperature is already greater than 85°C, shut off the burner or hot plate, and add a
few pieces of ice to bring the temperature down to 85°C. Then, using beaker tongs remove the beaker
of hot water from the burner. Using tongs or hot mitts carefully pour the water into the empty beaker
until the water level is well above the level of the solid inside the test tube. Set the empty beaker on
the counter. You will use it again in step 20.
10. Begin timing. The second the water is poured, one member of the lab group should begin timing,
while the other reads the initial temperatures of the bath with one thermometer and sample with the
other thermometer.

Ideal Utopia Research Paper
There are two things that operate this world: order and production. The world runs smoothest when
these two things are at their maximums. Thus, an ideal utopia would include methods to facilitate
work as well as to ensure societal integrity. These goals can be reached through the adoption of
artificial intelligence, the development of a fiscal military state, and the conservation of goods,
resources, and energy. The critical issue in human societies is the lack of efficient management. This
stems from corruption, ignorance, deceit, complacency, laziness, and indifference. Confirmation bias
has the potential to wreak havoc on groups of people, because everyone knows that there is nothing
worse than being wrong. Humans are apt to make errors, and over long periods of time these errors
accumulate and compound into irreparable mistakes. Consequently, it is impossible for humans to ever
govern a utopia. Machines, however, are not prone to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Conservation seems to contradict my previous statements on the military industrial complex, but in
fact they go hand in hand. By stressing conservation, consumer demand can be artificially augmented,
thus putting a larger emphasis on production. For instance, if a ration were put on eggs and butter
(despite there being no shortage of those products), the price of those items would increase. However,
in reality, there is really a surplus of eggs and butter, which at any point could flood the market, drive
prices into the ground, and teach people a valuable lesson on why eggs and butter should not be
trusted. As a result, the illusion of a lack of resources is just as powerful as not actually having those
goods. In relation to the military, it is possible to artificially keep the demand for robots high in spite
of a surplus of fighting drones. This is necessary if production is to

Teenagers In Creon By Sophocles Antigone
When a teenager rebels they do so because they are under minded by authority. One example is
illustrated in Persepolis, Mrs. Nasrine, Marjane s maid, is distraught over her son s life having a worth
of a plastic key (Satrapi 99). Mrs. Nasrine s son is promised luxuries in the afterlife if they die in war
(Satrapi 100). This simple view of a teenager s life and their usage leads teenagers to rebel. Marjane s
cousin, Shahab also recalls seeing the teenagers being thrown into the field and faced with immediate
death (Satrapi 101,102). Iranian teenage boys are shown to be simply fodder to the Iran Iraqi War and
while they hold the future of a nation, the regime only sees them as pawns. The idea of teenagers

In Persepolis, Marjane s teacher claims since the Islamic Republic has been found there has been no

experience with her Uncle Anoosh, a prisoner under the Shah but executed by the Islamic Republic
(Satrapi 144). Marajane was faced with immediate applause from her classmates and praise from her
father (Satrapi 144, 145). Support is shown as a symbol of agreement and thus her classmates and
father supporting her depicts her rebellion as justified. Primarily, more necessary in the case of her
classmates as they would have been lied to from authority which can be noted as brainwashing.
Support of a teenager s rebellion can be shown again with Joshua Wong s activism. Joshua s parents,

Exploring Factors Affecting the Quality of Life for...
Australia is a vast land with a diverse environment and communities isolated by great distances. Its
peoples have a diversity of culture, educational and economic circumstances, health needs, services,
and social structure. Therefore the welfare issues experienced and the impact these have to lifestyle
within Australia s different populations would also differ in relation to these factors. This is certainly
true for Rural Australia.
The biggest factor impacting Rural Australia has been the changes to the economic viability of
primary production, one of the largest sources of income for Australia (Australian Government, 2008),
affected by globalization, deregulation, privatisation and reduction/withdrawal of services, rising ...

This tightening of expenditure continues on throughout the community. Business may cease
sponsorship of the local football teams and individuals may cut back on patronage of local restaurants.
Local charities and churches may notice a reduction in donations. It isn t just the newly unemployed
and the businesses that are affected. The general community begins to experience a fall in optimism
for the future. Economic downturn with the resulting sense of hopelessness and despair is a major
factor contributing to the high rate of rural suicides. A lot of people who get put on the economic
scrapheap through no fault of their own feel an enormous sense of worthlessness (Human Rights and
Equal Opportunity Commission,1999, p.5).
The newly unemployed can find it hard to gain other employment in the region as most rural areas
rely on one major industry for employment. Another problem is that many of the people employed in
primary production areas are likely to have limited education or skills and so find changing careers
difficult without assistance.
Education in Rural Australia is not necessarily valued or available in the same way it is in
metropolitan areas. Many children need to travel great distances or live away from home to access
secondary and particularly tertiary education. The high cost of living away from home, lack of

For this experiment we researched the dimension of the tennis ball and basketball. The dimension of
the tennis ball is 2.700 inches. The dimension of the basketball is 29.5 inches.
A reason that a tennis ball is explained best by Tara Thackery. The motion of energy defines kinetic
energy. According to Exploratorium, when you throw a tennis ball and it lands on the floor, it gains
kinetic energy. The molecules in the tennis ball begin to stretch apart. Then, they squeeze back
together. As this process occurs, the ball gains more energy and is able to bounce off the ground.
A reason that basketball bounces is best explained ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
We think that the height will change because the type of ground used could modify the outcome of the
experiment. To measure the bounce of the ball we used a three feet measuring stick. The results will
be measured in inches.
CONSTANTS:
The constants in this experiment is the type of ball being used in each experiment. Also the time of
day in this experiment was a constant.
CONTROL:
The control group in this experiment is the different heights cause by the balls in the different
environment.

Allusions In The Crucible
You were supposed to destroy the Sith, not join them! You were supposed to bring balance to the
force, not leave it in darkness! This is what Obi Wan screamed at Anakin before leaving him to burn
almost to death on Mustafar. While this accusation makes sense from a Jedi point of view, from the
Buddhist point of view, it is entirely unfounded. The Jedi, through their millennia of non virtuous
actions, earned the non virtuous actions that happened to them. In fact, Anakin was just used as the
instrument of karma in Revenge of the Sith. The Jedi are held up on a pedestal throughout the entire
saga, but they are not perfect heroes. Just during the course of the movie, the Jedi lied and committed
divisive speech, both of which are principle verbal non virtues. There are many times that they lie, not
only amongst themselves, but also to the Chancellor and the Senate. Their biggest lies were in their
omissions of information about their inability to access the force as easily, and when they told Anakin
to lie to the Chancellor and spy on him. While the Chancellor is the antagonist of the film, that doesn t
change the fact that when the Jedi forced Anakin to spy on his beloved friend, they were committing a
non virtuous act. They were willing to commit these non virtues because they had grown ... Show

The bad things that happened to the Jedi order were the results of their millennia of non virtuous acts.
The Jedi, throughout their many years of power, committed almost every single non virtue, and did
many of them with the wrong views and with a harmful intent due to their arrogance. So Anakin was
just an instrument of karma that actually cleansed the bad karma that the Jedi had built up. In that way,
he fulfilled the prophecy, bringing balance to the force by balancing the karma of the Jedi. Therefore,
the true blame for the destruction of the Jedi lies with the Jedi, not

Scary Story Essay example
Scary Story I looked up at the black sky. I hadn t intended to be out this late. The sun had set, and the
empty road ahead had no streetlights. I knew I was in for a dark journey home. I had decided that by
traveling through the forest would be the quickest way home. Minutes passed, yet it seemed like hours
and days. The farther I traveled into the forest, the darker it seemed to get. I was very had to even take
a breath due to the stifling air. The only sound familiar to me was the quickening beat of my own
heart, which felt as though it was about to come through my chest. I began to whistled to take my
mind off the eerie noises I was hearing. In this kind of darkness I was in, it was hard for me to believe
that I could be ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I took a glance around and found myself looking right into a pair of dark, glassy eyes peering at me
through the bushes. I knew I was not seeing things at that moment. Were those the evil eyes of a
goblin lurking waiting for it s next meal? My breath became too rapid for me to be able to whistle. I
took a big gulp and decided to step on it and quicken my pace. I would never get home at this rate.
The same moment I decided to quicken my speed, a deer burst through the night. I screamed,
stumbled and hit the ground with a loud thump. I sat on the moist ground for a moment to try to
recover but my heart began to throb as if it was beating within my throat. It was just a deer I told
myself, I had to be brave. Trying to get myself together I began to feel this hot puffs of air on the back
of my neck. It s the goblin! I screamed as I rapidly rose to my feet. My head spun like an owl as I
went to look for what was behind me. I looked to the ground and discovered a little white dog. You
scared me to death little guy. What is a cute little puppy like you doing in a dense forest like this? I
said to him. I was relieved it was only a dog instead of the ghastly goblin, but I only made it half way
home by then. As I proceeded on the white little dog followed me. I felt more at ease now that I had
him following me but he would not be considered much of a watch dog to most

Hamlet Tragedy Analysis
Hamlet, despite being an introspective look at grief as well as a cautionary tale of the human
condition, is first and foremost a tragedy. The Tragedy of Hamlet, Prince of Denmark, by William
Shakespeare, is a play written in the early 17th century that follows the Senecan formula: a
playwriting method originating in Rome which accentuates points of revenge, honor, the supernatural,
suicide, and blood. This formula is evident throughout the play but is fully realized in the character of
Hamlet. He is a tragic hero, bound to revenge, goaded by the ghost of his father, who with each
decision moves closer to his inevitable death. Hamlet has many observable traits. He is intelligent,
emotional, temperamental, and bold but his tragic flaw is that of overthinking. Though Hamlet is
driven by instinct to right the wrong done to his father, he does not act as such. He carefully calculates
all of his advances against his antagonists and spends a considerable amount of time explaining to the
audience what complications certain issues present. O all you host of heaven! O earth! What else? And
shall I couple hell? Oh, fie! Hold, hold, my heart, And you, my sinews, grow not instant old, But bear
me stiffly up. Remember thee! Ay, thou poor ghost, whiles memory holds a seat In this distracted
globe. Remember thee! Yea, from the table of my memory I ll wipe away all trivial fond records, All
saws of books, all forms, all pressures past That youth and observation copied there, And thy
commandment all alone shall live Within the book and volume of my brain, Unmixed with baser
matter. Yes, by heaven! O most pernicious woman! O villain, villain, smiling, damnèd villain! My
tables! Meet it is I set it down That one may smile, and smile, and be a villain. At least I m sure it may
be so in Denmark. (writes) So, uncle, there you are. Now to my word. It is Adieu, adieu. Remember
me. I have sworn t. (I.v.94 1130) In Hamlet s long soliloquy he belabors the idea of fate and its
unfairness. After stewing over his villainous uncle and mother, he finally commits himself to
vengeance by the ghost s suggestion. This action in particular is the one that sets him on the path to his
death. Hamlet s tendency to overthink can most notably be

Rebecca Stewart 4574927 Russell Johnston Seminar 3 November 11, 2012 Advertisements are a vital part of any company s marketing strategy, and are used to inform or persuade an audience about a certain product or service. In fact, North American companies are among the world s highest advertisers (Boone et al., 2010, 502). Today, an average consumer is exposed to hundreds of advertisements every day. It is when these companies attempt to promote a dangerous product that restrictions must be, and have been put in place. Marketers should make responsible decisions, and not just focus on generating profits, because it is legal. Ads should address audiences not just as consumers who care about material interests but as citizens who care about social virtues and the public good (Hove, 2009, 35). The idea of advertising alcoholic beverages is unethical. While there are mild restrictions in Canada regarding alcohol promotions, there is a demand for more. Some provinces run ads that promote responsible drinking, or the dangers of drinking and driving in an attempt to shed light on alcohol abuse (Boone, 2010, 525). However, these attempts do not cancel out the multitude of beer and liquor advertisements in today s media. Some alcohol advertisements include the ideology that drinking a certain brand of beer will influence their social class, or improve their quality of life in some way. This is extremely controversial. An article from the South African Journal of Psychology notes, there are no laws against [alcohol] advertisements; however, responsible corporate and professional action, would prevent the use of these advertisements from a social and moral standpoint (Dubihela amp; Dubihela, 2011, 209). Clearly, an ethical dilemma is present. The Canadian Radio television and Telecommunications Commission is one organization that has viewed alcohol advertisements critically. • 3. Mathematical and Musical Harmony For most people, mathematics is an unsolvable puzzle characterized by the impression of numbers and calculations taught in school. It is often associated with feelings of rejection and disinterest. To the general population mathematics appears to be to be strictly rational, abstract, cold and soulless. Music, however, is involved with emotion, with feelings, and with life. It exists in all daily routines. Everyone has sung a song, pressed a key on a piano, or blown into a flute, and therefore, in some sense, made music. People can easily interact with it. Music is a way of expression and a part of everyone s existence. The incentive for investigating the connections between these two apparent opposites therefore is in the least ... This proportion can not only be found in geometric forms (for example the length of a diagonal related to the length of an edge in a regular pentagon), but also in nature (for example the length of the trunk in relation to the diameter of some particular trees, such as the Norway spruce). Due to its consideration as well balanced, beautiful and dynamic, the golden section has found various applications in the arts, especially in painting and photography, where important elements often divide a picture s length or width (or both) following the golden proportion. However, such a division is not necessarily undertaken consciously, but results from an impression of beauty and harmony. Diverse studies have discovered that this same concept is also very common in musical compositions. The golden section expressed by Fibonacci ratios is either used to generate rhythmic changes or to develop a melody line Examples of deliberate applications can be found in the widely used Schillinger System of Musical Composition or concretely in the first movement of Béla Bartók s piece Music for Strings, Percussion and Celeste , where, for instance, the climax is situated at bar 55 of 89. Furthermore, Rothwell s study has revealed examples of the golden proportion in various musical periods. While the characteristics of the examined compositions varied greatly, the importance of ... • 4. Teenage Stereotypes Lazy, Disrespectful, Selfish, Technology Crazed. These are just a few of the words that come to mind when the typical adult describes the everyday teenager. To some, these descriptions are taken as a given fact and lack recognition of the issue this poses to the individuals on the receiving end of such. This is the exact issue present in discrimination and stereotyping. For years, a specific group of individuals has been reduced to the negative connotations presented against them by every other group that lacks such quality such as their race, gender, appearance, age ...etc. Every instance applicable contains the common ground in which the other groups fail to recognize the harm in their superficial classifications of one another due to narrow minded tendencies. This is the basis to every single form of discrimination. An incredibly oppressed group who is by far, no stranger to these circumstances are teens who continuously receive the hostility of adults for simply belonging to their age group. Present day teenagers have come to be placed in an inaccurate box that classifies them as a selfish, immature group by adults due several factors, the most prominent being the media and the form it introduces teens to the average adult. The constant incorrect portrayal of teens in movies, t.v. and other platforms has caused adult audiences to believe these classifications and thus, cause several issues to be inflicted upon teens in several areas of their lives that calls for ... • 6. The Importance Of Government Intervention In Healthcare Healthcare is a widely debated topic that affects millions of people in this country, whether one is for universal healthcare or against it. Millions of people across this country have had to deal with healthcare one way or another. Having the government intervene in such matters makes things complicated from Cost to HIPPA and Interventions. The purpose of this paper is to discuss why government intervention should be limited in terms of healthcare. The first major reason why government intervention poses a problem for most people is the cost. Most people do not have the means to deal with healthcare without some type of intervention from the government but the type of intervening they need may cost them more than they were ready to take on. As costs increase, we hear or read almost daily that some 39 to 40 million people are without insurance for medical care. (Grosse). This is due to the rising in cost that the government has put on its citizens. While the government tries it s best to ensure that everyone is well covered there are still certain situations that cause people to have to pay tremendous amounts of money out of pocket for medication and supplies necessary for them. A recent government report stated that for Medicare alone, more than $2 billion dollars is lost every month due to waste, mismanagement, and fraud. (Grosse). The film seems to flow in beautiful manner from one scene to the next. One piece of art in the film is the use of symbols. Each symbol is delicately placed in order to make sense to any viewers that can pick up on them. One symbol is Nick s obsession with his Peace Lily. It represents his obsession with the job. It is the only other thing he cares for because its needs are simple and by the books. When he breaks it, it is supposed to symbolize his change of heart; that somebody has taken the place of the lily. Another symbol in the film is the number 3. There are 3 murders that take place before people believe Nicholas. There are 3 people Nick tries to talk to in order to get out of being sent to Sanford. Many lines are repeated 3 times over. This could be in reference to fairytales always using the number 3, since this plot seems far fetched like a fairytale. However, it could also be in reference to the trilogy of films that Wright and Pegg made together. Then, there is the swan symbol. Swans typically symbolize grace, beauty, and peace. Before Beowulf shows up in Denmark, Grendel has been terrorizing the mead hall there, killing the men who guarded it, the God cursed brute was creating havoc: he grabbed thirty thirty men from their resting places and rushed to his lair (Heaney 121 123). Grendel continues terrorizing the Danes for twelve winters before any sort of help shows up. When Beowulf shows up to the Danish lands, he waits for Grendel to strike before making his move to fend himself from Grendel s brutishness, His talon was raised to attack Beowulf/ He was bearing in with open claws when the alert hero s comeback forestalled him utterly (745 748). Grendel was ready to strike down Beowulf where he rest but Beowulf was able to protect himself from his vicious attacks. After Grendel was slain by Beowulf, the balance was shifted towards the good and Beowulf is showered with praise after defeating a large force of evil: You have won renown: you are known to all men far and near, now and forever (1221 1222). After defeating the beast that no one else could that had terrorized the people for many winters and restoring balance, King Hrothgar compensates Beowulf with glory and riches. • 23. My Writing And Writing Style Essay Like transforming from a caterpillar to a butterfly, my writing style transformed from something mediocre to something quite exceptional. In high school, even when I took advanced placement English and Literature courses, I was never good at writing. My writing would lack structure, reasoning, syntax, and a well defined thesis statement. My inadequate grades on writing assignments lowered my self esteem, so I assumed I would never enjoy writing papers because I believed I could never improve. However, since attending a university my writing style has improved far beyond my expectation. My EN 101 course enhanced my understanding of the different ways I could approach my writing. Also, it enhanced my comprehension of outlines to complete assignments. Investing quality time into my writing made a substantial difference because I became a stronger writer. Through the late nights, constant revisions, and agonizing head traumas, I learned that my writing is truly spectacular whenever I incorporate well defined thesis statements, provide sufficient supporting evidence, and maintain a clear focus in my assignments. My papers used to lack purpose and organization because I did not know how to write a thesis statement, which is a road map for any academic essay. After I submitted my second essay assignment for EN 101, I learned how to write a well defined thesis statement that introduces my main ideas. • 25. Essay on Economic Growth and Development Economic growth is a necessary but not sufficient condition of economic development. There is no single definition that encompasses all the aspects of economic development. The most comprehensive definition perhaps of economic development is the one given by Todaro: Development is not purely an economic phenomenon but rather a multi dimensional process involving reorganization and re orientation of the entire economic and social system. Development is a process of improving the quality of all human lives with three equally important aspects. These are: 1. Raising peoples living levels, i.e. incomes and consumption, levels of food, medical services, education through relevant growth processes. 2. Creating ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Amartya Sen defines economic development in terms of personal freedom, freedom to choose from a range of options. While economic growth may lead to an increase in the purchasing power of people, if the country has a repressed economy, there is lack of choice and hence personal freedom in restricted. Hence once again growth has taken place without any development. While economic growth may result in an improvement in the standard of living of a relatively small proportion of the population whilst the majority of the population remains poor. It is how the economic growth is distributed amongst the population that determines the level of development. Taking into consideration the trickle down theory of economics by Lewis, if the growth in economy is not sufficient to satisfy the needs and wants of the upper sections, nothing or very little shall trickle down to the lower sections in the hierarchy of society. Thus, the gap between the rich and poor widens and though economic growth has impacted a certain section of society, this cannot be considered development. Another example is an increase in the defence output of a nation, which accounts for an increased GDP but does not in any way contribute to economic development. Economic growth is not enough in itself to measure economic development as even if there has been a leap in the income of people in a particular nation, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

This means a great deal of work on my part, and often I delay my reporting of the news until I am sure that all the facts I have reported are correct. It also means that before you get the truth, there are mobs of stories claiming to have nothing but the truth as told to me by a witness or the inside scoop or the real deal. These newspapers are usually full of bologna, exaggeration, what the readers want to hear, and other shenanigans. Thus is the case of the story that s about to be told. It is the story of the December 7, 1941 attack on the American naval base in Pearl Harbor, Hawaii, by the Japanese Empire. Although I was there, I still delayed my reporting until I was sure I had all my facts straight. In this instance, however, I was not able to keep this article free of the interjection of bias. The Bedouin had little interest in conventional religion, as speculation of supernatural higher powers did not make any impact on their difficult environment (Reading 3, page 15). Because of their harsh, nomadic lifestyle, the Bedouin instead evolved a chivalric code, which, seeing as they were extremely communal, stressed the importance of protecting and avenging the tribe (Reading 3, page 15). However, this chivalric code, known as Muruwah, only encouraged bravery and selflessness within the context of the tribe, paying no attention to universal human rights (Reading 3, page 16). As such, there were great acts of violence committed between various tribes, who following their own special brands of Muruwah, were obligated to defend any actions of their tribal brethren. The prophet Muhammad, a Bedouin himself, saw that the barbarity of the tribes was not conducive to prosperity in Arabia. In his final sermon at mount Arafat in Mecca, prophet Muhammad relayed to listeners his message, at one point saying, every Muslim is a brother to every Muslims and Muslims constitute one brotherhood (Reading 2, page 11). The concept of brotherhood spoke clearly to the Bedouin, as it was inline with their cultural traditions. Because the prophet was one of them and his message of stressing community related to them, the Bedouin bought into the monotheistic religion of Islam. Thus, an ideal utopia would include methods to facilitate work as well as to ensure societal integrity. The critical issue in human societies is the lack of efficient management. This stems from corruption, ignorance, deceit, complacency, laziness, and indifference. Confirmation bias has the potential to wreak havoc on groups of people, because everyone knows that there is nothing worse than being wrong. • 41. Allusions In The Crucible You were supposed to destroy the Sith, not join them! You were supposed to bring balance to the force, not leave it in darkness! This is what Obi Wan screamed at Anakin before leaving him to burn almost to death on Mustafar. While this accusation makes sense from a Jedi point of view, from the Buddhist point of view, it is entirely unfounded. The Jedi, through their millennia of non virtuous actions, earned the non virtuous actions that happened to them. In fact, Anakin was just used as the instrument of karma in Revenge of the Sith. The Jedi are held up on a pedestal throughout the entire saga, but they are not perfect heroes. Just during the course of the movie, the Jedi lied and committed divisive speech, both of which are principle verbal non virtues. There are many times that they lie, not only amongst themselves, but also to the Chancellor and the Senate. Their biggest lies were in their omissions of information about their inability to access the force as easily, and when they told Anakin to lie to the Chancellor and spy on him. While the Chancellor is the antagonist of the film, that doesn t change the fact that when the Jedi forced Anakin to spy on his beloved friend, they were committing a non virtuous act. They were willing to commit these non virtues because they had grown ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The bad things that happened to the Jedi order were the results of their millennia of non virtuous acts. The Jedi, throughout their many years of power, committed almost every single non virtue, and did many of them with the wrong views and with a harmful intent due to their arrogance. So Anakin was just an instrument of karma that actually cleansed the bad karma that the Jedi had built up. In that way, he fulfilled the prophecy, bringing balance to the force by balancing the karma of the Jedi. Therefore, the true blame for the destruction of the Jedi lies with the Jedi, not ... • 42. Scary Story Essay example Scary Story I looked up at the black sky. I hadn t intended to be out this late. The sun had set, and the empty road ahead had no streetlights. I knew I was in for a dark journey home. I had decided that by traveling through the forest would be the quickest way home. Minutes passed, yet it seemed like hours and days. The farther I traveled into the forest, the darker it seemed to get. I was very had to even take a breath due to the stifling air. The only sound familiar to me was the quickening beat of my own heart, which felt as though it was about to come through my chest. I began to whistled to take my mind off the eerie noises I was hearing. In this kind of darkness I was in, it was hard for me to believe that I could be ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I took a glance around and found myself looking right into a pair of dark, glassy eyes peering at me through the bushes. I knew I was not seeing things at that moment. Were those the evil eyes of a goblin lurking waiting for it s next meal? My breath became too rapid for me to be able to whistle. I took a big gulp and decided to step on it and quicken my pace. I would never get home at this rate. The same moment I decided to quicken my speed, a deer burst through the night. I screamed, stumbled and hit the ground with a loud thump. I sat on the moist ground for a moment to try to recover but my heart began to throb as if it was beating within my throat. It was just a deer I told myself, I had to be brave. Trying to get myself together I began to feel this hot puffs of air on the back of my neck. It s the goblin! I screamed as I rapidly rose to my feet. My head spun like an owl as I went to look for what was behind me. I looked to the ground and discovered a little white dog. You scared me to death little guy. What is a cute little puppy like you doing in a dense forest like this? I said to him. I was relieved it was only a dog instead of the ghastly goblin, but I only made it half way home by then. As I proceeded on the white little dog followed me. I felt more at ease now that I had him following me but he would not be considered much of a watch dog to most ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 43. Hamlet Tragedy Analysis Hamlet, despite being an introspective look at grief as well as a cautionary tale of the human condition, is first and foremost a tragedy. The Tragedy of Hamlet, Prince of Denmark, by William Shakespeare, is a play written in the early 17th century that follows the Senecan formula: a playwriting method originating in Rome which accentuates points of revenge, honor, the supernatural, suicide, and blood. This formula is evident throughout the play but is fully realized in the character of Hamlet. He is a tragic hero, bound to revenge, goaded by the ghost of his father, who with each decision moves closer to his inevitable death. Hamlet has many observable traits. He is intelligent, emotional, temperamental, and bold but his tragic flaw is that of overthinking. Though Hamlet is driven by instinct to right the wrong done to his father, he does not act as such. He carefully calculates all of his advances against his antagonists and spends a considerable amount of time explaining to the audience what complications certain issues present. O all you host of heaven! O earth! What else? And shall I couple hell? Oh, fie! Hold, hold, my heart, And you, my sinews, grow not instant old, But bear me stiffly up. Remember thee! Ay, thou poor ghost, whiles memory holds a seat In this distracted globe. Remember thee! Yea, from the table of my memory I ll wipe away all trivial fond records, All saws of books, all forms, all pressures past That youth and observation copied there, And thy commandment all alone shall live Within the book and volume of my brain, Unmixed with baser matter. Yes, by heaven! O most pernicious woman! O villain, villain, smiling, damnèd villain! My tables! Meet it is I set it down That one may smile, and smile, and be a villain. At least I m sure it may be so in Denmark. (writes) So, uncle, there you are. Now to my word. It is Adieu, adieu. Remember me. I have sworn t. (I.v.94 1130) In Hamlet s long soliloquy he belabors the idea of fate and its unfairness. After stewing over his villainous uncle and mother, he finally commits himself to vengeance by the ghost s suggestion. This action in particular is the one that sets him on the path to his death. Hamlet s tendency to overthink can most notably be ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
