Why Is Law Enforcement Important
Law Enforcement
Angela Primiano
CRJ 201
Instructor: Donald Mason

Every society has rules to go by and laws that must not be broken and along with that is the criminal
justice that even gives the criminal rights. Criminals in the United States are to be given their rights
and not to have harm to them in any way under the justice system as they may be freed from their
prosecution and their case be acquitted if found in their favor if an act of unjust or immoral conduct
has been found. Law enforcement professionals must execute justice by upholding the law in an
ethical and constitutional manner. The United States Department of Justice seeks to prevent or resolve
community conflicts and tensions arising ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Bandura believes that people decide whether or not to adopt what behavior s they observe (Bandura,
1977). There is a common perception that a criminal is has suffered a deprived childhood, or is from a
broken home and lacks a good education etc, but this is not true fact as there is all kinds that go astray
and for no apparent reason. As someone may have a good life and has made it big and all of a sudden
that is not good enough for them and they decide that embezzling millions from their company they
work for is a good ideal for unknown reasons. Law enforcement professionals use criminal theory to
understand criminal actions as Sutherland s major sociological contribution to criminology was a
differential association theory as it was similar to the importance to the strain theory and social control
theory. The individual s social relationship explains the deviance of these theories. Both biological and
classical theories, poses no obvious threats to the humane treatment of those identified as criminals.
(Gaylord, 1988:1) In the 1939 edition of Principles of Criminology, the first statement of the theory of
differential association appears and in the fourth edition as he presents his final theory. As follows his
theory has 9 basic postulates. 1. Criminal behavior is learned.
Criminal behavior is not inherited and does not invent criminal behavior.
2. Criminal behavior is learned through

Taking a Look at Mental Illnesses
Mental illnesses are a serious matter that affect a person as much as someone with a physical illness.
Mental illnesses are medical conditions that affect a person s mental health. They are as serious as
other disorders such as diabetes and should be treated as so. The amount of talk by those who aren t
well informed and often assume has created many misconceptions about mental illnesses. In order to
successfully make those around people with mental illnesses to be aware of the harm these disorders
cause a person these misconceptions need to be cleared. Mental illnesses need to be treated like the
threat they indeed are like real illnesses.
Mental illnesses are conditions in which a person s mental health is affected to a point that they aren t
able to cope with life s expectations. An example is a common known disorder known as depression,
when someone experiences depression they may feel like they no longer want to thrive and be happy
in their life. This happens due to the amount of brain activity the disorder causes to diminish.
According to www.nimh.nih.gov when a person has depression he or she may expirience being very
tired, a loss of interest in activites once enjoyed, and thoughts or attemp of suicide. Depression is
caused by a couple of factors are genes and brain chemistry which is irregular to normal people. Stress
is a major factor that affects those with the mental illness because they are not able to cope with it like
the majority of people. The fact is

Opinion Today Newsletter Summary
I began to scroll through the emojis on my phone. Yes, there were women s faces, and tiny women s
bodies. But for the women actually engaged in an activity or profession, there were only archetypes:
the flamenco dancer in her red gown, the bride in her flowing veil, the princess in her gold tiara. There
was a set of ballet dancers complete with bunny ears and black leotards, their smiles indicating that,
gosh, they were so grateful to God and everyone, really, for this opportunity to pose for Playboy.
There was a woman getting her hair cut, and another with her arm out, Valley Girl, osmosis ditz, as if
to say, Tenure? What is tenure? That sounds like an injury! Ow i!
Where, I wanted to know, was the fierce professor working her way to tenure?
Where was the lawyer? The accountant? The surgeon? How was there space for both a bento box and
a single fried coconut shrimp, and yet women were restricted to a smattering of tired, beauty centric
roles?
This was not a problem for our male emoji ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
When my friend and I met up for drinks, we talked about this disparity, and the smaller one on our
screens. Scrolling through the options, we rejected the dancer and the unicorn and, in lieu of anything
else, settled on a penguin. My friend was, we agreed, a penguin. Not a creature of mythical
imagination, but something real. I d read, I told her, a recent report about several hundred thousand
penguins trapped by a collapsed glacier in Antarctica. Thousands had died, but the ones that survived
did so only through perseverance regularly traveling some 40 miles across barren nothingness to reach
the ocean.
She, and the women like her, we agreed, were creatures that persevered like crazy, and often against
all odds.

Outsourcing damages the American economy by sending jobs...
Outsourcing damages the American economy by sending jobs overseas. Outsourcing can be defined as
the contracting of a business process to a third party . In the USA, outsourcing is thought of as a bad,
dirty word, spoken about in hushed tones and secrecy amongst upper classmen and business moguls.
As stated by W. Rivkin, Professor of Business Administration at Harvard Business School, The off
shoring phenomenon has implications for policymakers, business leaders, and members of the
workforce (Hanna, J. How Many U.S. Jobs Are Offshorable? ). Politicians give people their false
assurances and empty promises to stop it, and businesses feel the need to down play their involvement
in it. Phrases like Only Buy American and Jap is Crap ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Setting up and operating a textile factory for example, comes at a fraction of the comparable cost back
in the USA or UK. Also, these businesses simultaneously look to amplify the quantity and type of
products/goods on offer to their consumers, of which, many of them are also offered by their partners
and competitors. In turn, this has tended to gear such businesses to ruthless cost saving exercises such
as redundancies, cutting existing workforce etc. Consequently, traditional corporate red tape goes out
of the proverbial window and things take a turn for the worse as companies compete to offer the latest
and cheapest products to the masses, sparking an almost all out war amongst them. The result of this
is; staffing, health and safety, and regulatory adherence all find themselves taking a back seat to profit
margins, and usually it is to areas of the world where needs or necessities sadly, almost always get
trumped by prudence and vigilance. All this, in the name of saving a few bucks .
The outsourcing of non core business and services has risen in recent years. The top benefactor of this
rise has been India. Corporations have found a profusion of well trained, English speaking workers to
cram into call centers and customer service jobs. This is even happening in high skill positions like
hospital X rays technicians also. India is seen as the pioneer in outsourcing jobs

2. Literature Review
2.1 Introduction
The literature review of this research will contain different elements in order to give a full in depth
review into the Chinese automobile industry s development and the Volkswagen Group (VW) in
particular. The role of Government and the Open Door Policy, foreign direct investment (FDI) from
VW, Resource based Theory are the main issues that will be discussed in the following chapter. I have
chosen these elements because they are essentials factors to the Chinese automobile industry.
Regarding the role of the government, the government has been heavily influential in the development
of the automobile industry all around the world (Zhaotao, 2015). Good examples of Asian government

2.2 The role of the Government and Open Door Policy
Deng Xiaoping set in prepare the change of China s economy when he declared a new Open Door
Policy in December 1978. Mr. Deng understood that China required Western technology, innovation
and investment, therefore he opened the path for outside organisations who needed to set up in China
(News.bbc.co.uk, n.d.). At first, four Special Economic Zones (SEZs) were farmed in South China
with tax incentives to draw in outside speculation into the nation.
As the nation is a developing economy, the government has to play a critical role to guide and control
the nation (Nove and Gerschenkron, 1963). For instance, the part of government in enhancing general
financial and social welfare ought not be expelled or belittled, even in developed, mature economies
(Reich, 1989). Developing markets are countries that are investing in more productive capacity. They
are moving far from their conventional economies that have depended on agribusiness and the export
of raw materials. Leaders of developing countries want to create a better quality of life for the citizens.
Subsequently, they are rapidly industrialising and embracing a free market or mixed economy
(Amadeo, 2016). Developing economies frequently seek to restructure their economies along market
oriented lines and offer a wealth of opportunities in trade, technology transfers, and FDI (Heakal,
2015). Emerging markets are important because they drive growth in the

Child Nurse Personal Statement
Throughout my childhood and teens I have grown up watching shows such as causality and holby city
which inspired me dramatically as it allowed me to gain more knowledge and understanding about a
hospital environment. From then I knew I wanted to be a child nurse and I wanted it to be part of my
everyday life. As soon as I started researching the role of a child nurse, I knew it was the perfect
career for me as children s nurse. I work in a care home where I have learnt basic caring skills and
some new skills that I would use as a nurse. I have also improved my communication skill and have
learnt to adapt my way of communication to be able to suit the needs of the different individuals. I
have also learnt to listen to families of the residents by taking note and taking action of the concerns.
Being part of a team has taught me to communicate with colleagues about the care of resident and
issues in the care home and I have learnt how to act upon an emergency situation. I also enjoy that
none of my shifts are the same and look forward to the challenge in child nursing. In unpleasant
situations I have learnt to put my own views and feelings to the side and focus on the needs and
beliefs of the residents I m working with. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Leo Fender Research Paper
August 10, 1909 in Anaheim, California, an amazing soon to be mechanic and creator of the most
famous guitar company in the world was born, Clarence Leonidas, better known as Leo Fender. The
funny thing about Leo was that he never learned to play the guitar, he was only a mechanic. He started
his mechanic hobby when he was just fourteen. Fender showed interest with electronics at a very early
age. It all started when his uncle who ran an automotive electric shop sent him a box that contained
car radio parts and a battery. A few months later, Leo visited his uncle s shop in Santa Maria,
California. He was fascinated with everything, especially the radio his uncle had built from spare parts
that was bursting loud music. Leo says that very radio made a lifelong impression on him. If it weren t

build six of those PA systems. (A PA System is an electronic sound amplification and distribution

public, etc.) Some of his most famous designs are still used today like these four examples: In 1950,
Fender made his most popular guitar design the Telecaster, it was the first mass produced solid body
electric guitar made. A year later (1951), he made the Fender Precision Bass, this set the for most
electric bass guitars, and the Fender Bassman amplifier. Three years later (1954), he made the Fender

contestants on the History Channel s show Alone were allowed to choose 10 items form a supposed

water filter and purification systems. Firearms were not allowed of course, and apparently the metal
pot size could not exceed 2Quarts. The maximum amount of Paracord/cordage was 20 meters (66
feet), and they were only allowed five pounds of emergency rations if they chose to carry rations. The
contestants could also carry a Gillnet but the size was restricted to 6 meters (19 feet). What Gear Made

Items not counted as part of the 10 allowed were bear spray, a pack, and an emergency flare (History
Channel, 2015). When you get to choose what to carry, but are limited on what you can carry, you
have to pick wisely. Shelter, fire, water, and food are your priorities. When you can carry a shelter
with you, you probably should, because it can save time and energy, both of which are always in short
supply in the wilds. You can add forest debris to harden the shelter, but having a tarp on hand means
you have a quick shelter for that first night that can be improved upon with your time. Fire starting
materials are important, as well as a metal pot to boil water in and to prepared food with. A sleeping
bag for cold weather, while heavy to carry would be considered an essential item in cold weather, if
you had the choice. A Bivy bag may not be essential because the contestants could have chosen a
ground cloth, or extra tarp that could act as a cover and the tarp/ground cloth would have multiples
uses. A sharpening stone is a good idea, and it takes up little space and no appreciable weight is

British Petroleum ( Bp )
BP is a British multinational oil and gas company; whose headquarters is on London. BP developed its
reach in America by buying up companies like Standard Oil of Ohio, ARCO and Amoco (Tharoor).
Twenty years ago, BP was nothing like the powerful multinational corporation it is today (PBS:
Frontline). BP became this powerful company by using an ideology known as run to failure. In other
words, use things until they break in order to save money (PBS: Frontline). Over the years, many oil
companies have faced legal problems regarding the meeting of environmental standards, most notably
was British Petroleum (BP). In recent memory, British Petroleum (BP) has been facing troubles year

known to be a dangerous place to work. In other words the refinery was falling apart (PBS: Frontline).
On March 23, 2005, 15 people were killed and 170 were injured in an explosion at BP s Texas City
refinery (Schorn). It was the worst workplace accident in this country since 1989 (Schorn). BP, like
Amoco, considered replacing an antiquated blowdown drum used to collect gasoline. However, BP
decided to bank a saving of $150,000 and just repair the blowdown drum, because capital expenditure
was very tight (Schorn). According to many experts, this savings was the direct cause of the 2005
explosion. On March 23, 2005, BP employees began restarting a unit that had been down for repairs.
The blowdown drum began to fill with gasoline, but it overflowed and sent a geyser of gasoline into
the air (PBS: Frontline). The cloud of gas created from the drum was ignited by an idle truck. The
blast that followed destroyed several office trailers full of workers parked nearby (Schorn). After the
blast, several investigations were performed by Chemical Safety Board and Secretary of State James
Baker to discover the cause of the explosion. The investigation

Examples Of Colonial Colonization
Colonization itself is immoral the basic concept is the haves take from the have nots. Whether with
religious or secular intentions when an area is colonized the conquered people lose their homes,
livelihood, and quite often their culture. Even then the conquering nation is still maintaining power
through force rather than any allegiance on the part of the conquered. The premonition that
colonization could in anyway resemble something moral is a delusion. One example of immorality is
in the secular colonies. They were set up as a get rich quick scheme which took advantage of the
American Indians and imported slaves. They took the land and rights to the land away from the

1. What is the definition of Eugenics based on a video clip of Edwin Black?
According to Edwin Black, eugenics is the effort to create a white, blue eyed, blond haired, Nordic
master race in the United States, and wipe away the existence of everyone who did not fit that ideal .
Black goes further by explaining the implementation of this ideal, saying Now who did they want to
wipe away? They wanted to wipe away Mexicans, Italians. They wanted to wipe away the Asians the
Jews, those who they believed were feeble minded, the Deaf, the poor.
The Oxford University Press defines eugenics as the science of improving a human population by
controlled breeding to increase the occurrence of desirable heritable characteristics with a further and
rather illuminating explanation which states, Developed largely by Francis Galton as a method of
improving the human race, it fell into disfavor only after the perversion of its doctrines by the Nazis .
2. What did you learn exactly from Edwin Black that you may have not learned in American History?
If I had been asked when eugenics began in practice, I would likely have pointed at Nazi era Europe
prior to seeing Edwin Black s presentation. However, at the conclusion of his speech I found myself
shaken by the fact that eugenics was in practice in California before and during Nazi power. I had
thought of California as, in the past, a brave frontier, and at present, a shining beacon of

Romanticism In British Literature
Romanticism is British Literature was never a real movement and was a word used to put the most
distinctive writers who thrived in the last years of the 18th century and the first decades of the 19th
centuries into a group. The term Romantic literature was actually a little bit misleading since there
were no movements of romanticism back then. The writers back in that period did not call themselves
Romantic writers, not until August Wilhelm von Schlegel s Vienna lectures of 1808 through 1809
showed a vague difference between Classicism and Romanticism.
The examples of the French Revolution had an impact on the Romantic Movement in other ways.
Romanticism elevated the achievements of what it perceived as misunderstood heroic individuals and
artists that altered society and legitimized the individual imagination as a critical authority which
permitted freedom from classical notions of form in art. Other aspects of romanticism were
intertwined with Emotion, Lyric Poetry, and Self. Increased activity from the imagination was
achieved by more importance of the instincts and feelings of the authors. They generally called more
attention towards the emotion as it was a necessary add on to make logic and reason. When this
emphasis was added to the establishment of poetry, a very important transformation of focus
happened. Wordsworth s definition of all good poetry as the spontaneous overflow of powerful
feelings marks a turning point in literary history. By finding the best

Importance Of A Career In Pharmacy
Before Pharmacy 2100 began, I wasn t entirely sure what career I wanted to pursue but I knew I
wanted it to be in the healthcare field. As of now, my major is pharmaceutical sciences on a pre med

to take the pharmacy route or the medicine route. I was worried that I wouldn t like pharmacy because
I thought it was pretty boring and monotonous and definitely not something I would want to do every

that I can pursue with a pharmaceutical sciences degree than just pharmacy or medicine. Completing
the career research handout helped me to see all the different options I really have but hearing from
speakers was even more effective. Hearing from speakers allowed me to better visualize the jobs and

This essay aims to unveil the opinions, thoughts and perceptions of Greek fans as far as the causes of
violent incidents in the Greek football league are concerned. In the first part of this research project
some theoretical considerations about determinants of violence, crime and delinquency in general and
in sports are being analysed. For the purposes of this study I contacted a small scale case study

The drama of violence in sports and particularly in football is of major concern for the Greek
government, because of the 2004 Olympic Games that will be held in Athens. A great debate is on in
Greece these days, in order to institute measures for confrontation of football hooliganism. The
previous minister of sports Mr Lianis tried to implement the British model of hooliganism elimination
expensive tickets, denial of entrance and stigmatisation of fans that in the past showed aggressive
behaviour, severe financial penalties for football clubs that directly or indirectly tolerate these groups
of supporters but these measures where ineffective. Violent incidents still continued to occur in the
Greek football league. In June of 2004 the newly elected minister of sports Mr Orfanos started a new
scheme for confrontation of violent incidents in sports. But the same mistake was repeated for one
more time. The governmental bodies responsible for the implementation of this anti hooliganism
scheme Hellenic Ministry of Culture and Hellenic Football Association (E.P.O) did not take under
consideration the views and the perceptions of the Greek fans on this issue. As a result this new
scheme caused more frustration and disappointment to the majority of football fans. As Kalatzo, a well

Septic Shock Research Paper
Septic shock is the stage of sepsis when multiple organ failure is evident and uncontrolled bleeding of
the body occurs. Septic shock results from the complication of an infection where toxins initiate a full
body inflammatory response. Viral, fungal, and bacterial infections can all lead to septic shock, but the
most common causes of sepsis are gram negative bacteria and gram positive bacteria. Sepsis causes
severe hypovolemic shock and hypodynamic cardiac function to affect the body, platelets and clotting
factors are consumed and thus the body cannot clot blood. Capillary leak occurs and cardiac

Diagnosis is often made with a blood test. This type of test can determine if any of the following
factors are present: bacteria in the blood, problems with clotting due to low platelet count, excess
waste products in the blood, abnormal liver or kidney function, decreased amount of oxygen, or
electrolyte imbalance. Depending on your symptoms and the results of the blood test, there are other
tests that a doctor may want to perform to determine the source of your infection. Other tests that can
be performed include: urine test, wound secretion test (if you have an open area that looks infected),
mucus secretion test (to see what type of germ is behind the infection), or a brain and spinal fluid test.
In cases where the source of the infection is not clear from the tests, a doctor might want to get an

A product made by Citrix Systems actually simulates a Microsoft Windows desktop from a thin
400KB client. The Citrix product does have server capacity problems when sending multimedia over a
network, but basic word processing and accounting programs are practical over a Citrix network.
This transition has made it once again easier to operate in a centralized processing computing
environment. Today further enhancements to HTML are allowing more graphic intensive applications
to be created. Macromedia Flash, Shockwave, and ActiveX Controls are enhancements to HTML
which are allowing for a thin client application to have dynamic graphical interfaces. Load balancing
systems such as Coyote Point Systems Equalizers are allowing reliable networks with redundant
servers and application load spread over multiple servers. Lower telecommunication and standard
routing protocols such as BGP have allowed remote offices relying on network access to have
redundant routes to the internet or central servers.

Selecting computer hardware and software for a company is an important management decision. This
decision will have a direct impact on operational efficiency and competitive advantage. The most
important management and organizational issue to consider is total cost of ownership. In considering a

ownership is. In many cases a thin client design has a higher up

Plastic Surgery Is On The Rise

A Hideous Trend
Liposuction, breast augmentation, rhinoplasty: plastic surgery is on the rise. Without even realizing it,
young children, specifically girls, are taught by movies like Cinderella that they should prize beauty.
Society continuously values beauty as people of different races and cultures have gone to extremes
just for this elegance: from Chinese foot binding to inflexible corsets from the Victorian times. While
plastic surgery existed in ancient times, only recently has it been accepted by the majority of modern
day society. Thousands of hard earned dollars each year are used for these very elaborate surgeries.
This increase of money in plastic surgeons pockets results from the desire of having a perfect life,
wanting a younger look, and social media influences. As society itself becomes more and more
obsessed with the idea of perfection and no human having any flaw, females feel the pressure of
correcting any flaw on their bodies. This idea becomes reinforced in reality television shows,
advertisements, magazines, and newspapers. In advertisements, rarely does someone see another
person with a crooked nose or a wrinkled face. Rather, these people typically have a straight nose, full
face, and a slim body. Somewhere in the past few decades, humans have equated the perfect body with
the perfect life. A study completed at the University of Texas by Daniel Hamermesh suggested that
attractive people are

Akron Police Department Case Summary
CW went to 1261 Everton Dr, Apt 9 Akron, OH 44307 because they were called out by Akron Police

Both CW could tell that this was the correct address because there were 3 police cars that were sitting

workers were from CSB. CW Cold responded that they were. The officer then told CW s that there
were not 2 children, however, there was 3. The officer stated that there was one child in the bedroom
sleeping that they did not know was in the home. CW s were also told by the officer that Mr. Brian

called him down, however, suspected that he would get upset after entering the home. The officer also
said that he already knew that the kids were in the custody of CSB and that he would most likely not
be happy that the two CW s were at the home. The officer the led both the CW upstairs to apartment 9.

Civil War Summary
The 22nd and 28th Iowa Regiments left Hamburg in June of 1865. Their war was over.
On July 4, 1865 in Savannah, Georgia, the 22nd Iowa mustered out of federal service after a reading
of the Declaration of Independence and Emancipation Proclamation. That afternoon, in the aftermath
of this explicitly patriotic commemoration of the new improved United States: the encapsulation of
the Republican ideal of the conflict as a struggle to reassert the promise of the Revolution, Taylor
Peirce, the fervent abolitionist, watched as a mob of townspeople and drunken Union soldiers, some of
them perhaps his own comrades, assault the city s black fire brigade as it paraded in celebration of the

Our Law Enforcement and Safe Neighborhoods Act Analysis
On April 23, 2010, Arizona Governor Janice K. Brewer signed the Support Our Law Enforcement and

Arizona Senate Bill 1070 is considered one of the harshest anti immigration law due to it s
enforcements. Nevertheless, it is not the first law of it s kind. Geographically, Arizona is prime for an

Nature of the problem: The belief that illegal immigration is one of the key factors in Arizona s

advantages, one of the most important being that it provides important intervention resources.
The main purpose of this study was to compare the efficacy of graphic and gestural modes of
communication with a toddler with Angelman syndrome (Martin, Reichle, Dimian, Chen, 2013). The
participant was Adam, a 21 month old male with Angelman syndrome. Before the study started, Adam
was assessed in communication, cognition, and fine and gross motor skills. Adam did not engage in
vocal imitation or turn taking. His mother reported that Adam would sometimes vocalize to get her
attention, he would also protest, request, and express excitement. Adam s fine motor skills were
delayed, but he had adequate movements to produce gestures for the study.
Before the sessions started, the three researchers went through a role play training. This was done to
increase reliability and interobserver agreement between the researchers. The 44 sessions occurred at
the participant s house or at his day care center. The first session was a baseline probe and the rest of
the sessions were divided into five phases. The sessions were held two times per week for five

For many people risk is an accepted part of everyday life. Every day activities such as catching the
bus, travelling on holiday, playing football, setting up home and starting a family all carry some
element of risk.
Risk plays a part in our health, safety, security, well being, employment, education, daily activities,
using resources and equipment and in community participation. But some adults, for example disabled
people or older people, are often discouraged from taking risks.
Traditionally they are not encouraged to take risks in areas such as budgeting, planning, employment

Bealtaine Research Paper
The Festival of Bealtaine, also known as May Day, marks the beginning of the summer. It
encompasses the sunset of April 30th, which is May Eve, to the sunset of May 1st, which is the actual
May Day. The most significant time of this festival is between dawn and sunrise. It is a key element of
the annual cycle and is one of four of the True Quarters, which also includes Samhain, Saint Brigid s

Sharing policy is also playing an important role in performance improvement. Background: In order to

improvement at minimal cost because it entails only a small increase in die size (is due to a second
architectural state, additional control logic, and replication of a few key processor resources) due to
limited replication of physical processor resources. Microarchitecture choices and tradeoffs: To share
resources, we chose among possible sharing schemes that included partition threshold full sharing
Partition: In a partitioned resource, each logical processor can use only half the entries. Resource
partitioning is simple and low complex. It works best for the major pipeline queues in the in order

widespread support in favor of keeping the death penalty, leaving the nation divided on the issue. Both

Many of those who argue against the morality of the death penalty tend to be backed by Christian
beliefs. However, the Bible argues that justice needs to be fair and to the point. Show no pity: life for
life, eye for eye, tooth for tooth, hand for hand, foot for foot (The Holy Bible, Deuteronomy 19:21).
This quote argues that is it fair to take life from someone if they have taken someone else s life, and
that justice should be viewed as getting even . With all things considered, this way of thinking seems
completely justified, Another argument of those who are concerned about the morality of the death
penalty is that lethal injections are inhumane. In reality, death by lethal injection is one of the most fair
and most humane ways to die. Lethal injections work by first rendering the individual unconscious,
and then by using the chemical potassium chloride to stop the victim s heart (Lethal Injection).
Complaints about the amount of pain inmates suffer after undergoing lethal injection and unreasonable

other option out there, which makes it an absolutely ethical process. Even though some people may

Most of America¡¯s dairy cows have leukemia virus and after they graze in fields with pesticides their
milk contains a mixture of lethal chemicals (¡°Milk: The Deadly Poison¡±). Equally as important are
the hormones and antibiotics dairy farmers inject into their cows. One hormone, known as
recombinant bovine growth hormone, or rBGH, is injected into many cows to increase milk

another hormone closely connected with breast cancer (¡°The Case against Dairy¡±). Also, farmers are

Comparison Of The Catcher In The Rye By J. D. Salinger
On January 1, 1919, Jerome David Salinger the author of the iconic novel, The Catcher in the Rye was
born in Manhattan, New York. After receiving national attention for his masterpiece, Salinger became
somewhat of a hermit and led a reclusive life. For a reserved individual, such as J.D. Salinger, what
more suitable way is there to illustrate his own life experiences than a tale of a teenager who entices
the reader through his unique view of the world? Without a doubt, there are multiple parallels that can
be drawn between the lives of Holden and the author himself. In his younger days, J.D. Salinger
attended multiple public schools in Manhattan until his parents decided to enroll him at the McBurney

as Holden had flunked out of Pencey. According to Holden, there were A million reasons why. It was

unceremonious exits from Pencey and McBurney respectively, were eerily similar, the school that
Salinger would be sent to the next and eventually graduate from Valley Forge Military Academy

Mackenzie Mckee Of Teen Mom Three Argumentative Analysis
Mackenzie McKee of Teen Mom 3 is now under fire after posting a picture of her son, who is only 4

General Fund Enterprise Business System
Joseph Weiss (2012) tells us that planned organizational change is a process that moves companies
from a present state to a desired future state with the goal of enhancing their effectiveness. Yet the
process of changing can be painful and less than successful. This is the story of the USPFO for
California and their poor managing of two simultaneous transformational changes to the organization:
transitioning to the General Fund Enterprise Business System (GFEBS) and splitting and relocating
the organization to two distant locales. The strategic plan was ill fated and resulted in a
leadership/employee estrangement and a silent organizational civil war. The USPFO for CA needs to
focus on reestablishing trust and team building in order to become a functional organization again.
COMPANY OVERVIEW The USPFO for California has been located at Camp San Luis Obispo since
its establishment in 1928. Their mission is to provide financial, logistical and contractual support to
the California Army National Guard. The organization falls directly under the authority of The
Adjutant General (TAG) who answers to the Governor. There are four main divisions of the USPFO:
Comptroller, Logistics, Data Processing, and Contracting. The Comptroller Division encompasses,
Technician, Military, and Travel Pay, Budget and Fiscal (accounting), and Vendor Pay. Logistics
handles the ordering, issuing, warehousing and transportation of supplies. Data Processing deals with
all technology

Using Data Analysis And Record Keeping
Excel and access are two different programs that are used in data analysis and record keeping. They
both have their advantages and disadvantages of using them but over the years one has grown to
dominate the field of records and analysis. Access is made up of seven major components which are
relationships, queries, forms, reports, modules, tables and macros (Brady Monk, 2009). Due to this
complexity of divisions, using it becomes cumbersome the hence not the right tool for data analysis
unlike excel where you only enter the data in tables. Over the years excel has proven to be the perfect
platform to collect and analyze data on. This is due to constant improvements in data analysis
formulas, graphs, charts and analysis styles the latest one being pivot tables. The greatest advantage of
excel is that it is easily compatible with other business software s hence ability to offer better results.
Giving the ease of entering data in excel the first priority in the hierarchy of its advantages, other facts
that stand out in excel include building great charts using pie charts and graphs. This will help a lot in
the presentation of data collected. Use of conditional formatting is another fact that makes excel stand
out against access. This is because you have the ability to format orders differently depending on
customers or goods ordered. The last very important advantage of excel is the ability to analyze data
and identify different trends of different customers or goods

The Inferno By Dante And The Allegory Of The Cave
The significance and connotation of light seems to be driven by its relation to truth. Truth is some
thing that has been debated since the beginning of human thought. Even in western philosophy alone,
the meaning of light has changed, creating a one to question the sole symbol light can act as. Plato s
argument equates truth to light, while Dante s argument equates God to light. Dante argues that the
light is guiding, rather than definite. Through these two examples, I will show that light symbolizing
the equivalent of truth or searching for truth yields problems. To support my claim, I will look at The
Inferno by Dante and The Allegory of the Cave by Plato, whose interpretations of light appear to work
well with one another. First, I will analyze the significance of in a non religious context. Second, I will
analyze the significance of in a religious context. Thirdly, I will show why this metaphor of light yield
problems for the viewer of light.
In Plato s Allegory of the Cave, light represents a definitive truth. After seeing the form of the good ,
in the physical world, light is produced, paralleling, in the mental world, truth and understanding is
produced (Plato 211). Since seeing the light is only obtained seeing the Truth, Plato regards light as an
end rather than a means to find a higher truth. This light in The Allegory of the Cave prevents humans
from behaving awkwardly and appearing completely ridiculous (Plato 211). Plato argues that the light

What Is Data Visualization
1. Introduction The Electronic Health Records (EHR) has become pervasive. As a result, medical and
health professionals have to grapple with an abundance of digital data. There can be no doubt that we
need to systematically collect, organize, consolidate and present data to users such as healthcare
professionals, primarily in order to decrease cognitive load and improve efficiency in diagnosing and
treating patients. The visual representation of information can go a long way in alleviating information
overload and also in improving decision making within the clinical environment. However, factors
such as perception of visualization tools by healthcare professionals may impede their effective
implementation and reduce usefulness of these ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The paper focuses on challenges in data visualization in EHR and recommends possible remedies
using human centered design. 2. Visualization In general, the term Visualization is defined as the
development of a visual image in the human mind. However that is more than simply a graphical
representation of data or concepts, as visualization can work as a cognitive tool, and becomes a
powerful strategy in the construction of knowledge using human percipient and cognitive capacities.
This definition is based on the work of Stuart Card (Card 1999); he defines Visualization as being the
use of visual representations of abstract data, supported by computers and in order to extend the
cognition, in an interactive mode (Dulclerci Joao, 2010). Visualization can further assist humans with
their data analysis through visual representation of the information. This assistance is defined as
cognitive support. Ware defines visualization as a graphical representation of data and concepts ,
which is either an internal construct of the mind or an external artifact support decision making (Troy
Moller, 2004). Visualization is not only useful for data observation. It essentially contributes in a far
significant manner to the process of data analysis. When the input data is organized

Health Care Utilization
The Affordable Care Act was signed into law March 23, 2010 by President Barack Obama; however,
the constitutionality of the law remained in question. In a controversial 5 to 4 ruling, The U.S.
Supreme Court upheld the law on June 28, 2012. The ACA is thought by some as the United States
health care rescue, and as its downfall by others.
It is estimated that the ACA will provide new services to 64 million Americans, providing health care
coverage to 32 million previously uninsured. In addition to providing new health insurance coverage,
the ACA implemented several components that can expand access to health care. One policy ... Show

The aim of the ACA is to provide affordable health care to all Americans, but it still leaves some
issues unaddressed that will impact the access to health care. Covino (n.d.), Though the intentions of
the legislation are good, the Affordable Care Act does little to improve the actual health care delivery
system (para.1, page 2). According to the American Medical Association, we are facing an increasing
Physician shortage. As of 2010 we faced a shortfall of 13,700 physicians, the estimate is that number
will increase to 62,900 by 2015, 91,500 by 2020, and 130,600 by 2025 (Krupa, n.d.), with primary
care taking the largest impact. Health Care coverage will be of no benefit if there are no doctors to
treat the patients. An example of this occurred in 2002 when Thailand s 30 Bhat Scheme added (CNN
n.d.) 14 million people to the country s health care system, resulting in long waits and subpar service
(Your health is covered, but who is going to treat you?) Several factors contribute to the physician
shortage. Many physicians are reaching the age of retirement, the Association of American Medical
Colleges estimates nearly 15 million physicians will be eligible for Medicare in the coming years
(CNN n.d.). The increasing cost of malpractice insurance also deters many from pursuing a career in
medicine, and is forcing some doctors to retire. Also contributing to the physician shortage is a lack of
spots in residency programs. In 2011, more than 7,000 were left

Masculinity In Moonlight
Music plays in the background as a blue vintage car pulls into a driveway. The car stops, and so does
the music. The driver, a middle aged black man tosses a pack of cigarettes on the dashboard and steps
out of the car. This is the opening scene of Moonlight, written by Barry Jenkins and Tarrell Alvin
McCraney. Moonlight follows Chiron, an African American boy throughout three periods of his life,
portrayed by three different acts: Little, Chiron and Black. It is a film that influenced my perspective
on African American social life on multiple levels, specifically the presence of hyper masculinity, the
view on sexuality and the drugs in struggling communities. Moonlight is one of the few glimpses I ve
had of primarily black communities, and certainly the first glimpse of a gay African American boy
growing up in a black community I have seen in any form of mainstream media.
Prior to watching this movie, I didn t know much about many aspects of African American social life
in regards to sexuality, drugs and hyper masculinity. I thought that it was more or less similar to the
views on sexuality and hyper masculinity I have witnessed in my own life. The mainstream views on
masculinity and sexuality (specifically in boys) I have witnessed are primarily that being masculine is
a positive trait for boys, and that if one is not at least slightly masculine, they are either gay or joking.
In regards to the presence of drugs in struggling black communities, I only know of what I hear

Why Is Law Enforcement Important Law Enforcement Angela Primiano CRJ 201 Instructor: Donald Mason January 13, 2012 Every society has rules to go by and laws that must not be broken and along with that is the criminal justice that even gives the criminal rights. Criminals in the United States are to be given their rights and not to have harm to them in any way under the justice system as they may be freed from their prosecution and their case be acquitted if found in their favor if an act of unjust or immoral conduct has been found. Law enforcement professionals must execute justice by upholding the law in an ethical and constitutional manner. Bandura believes that people decide whether or not to adopt what behavior s they observe (Bandura, 1977). There is a common perception that a criminal is has suffered a deprived childhood, or is from a broken home and lacks a good education etc, but this is not true fact as there is all kinds that go astray and for no apparent reason. As someone may have a good life and has made it big and all of a sudden that is not good enough for them and they decide that embezzling millions from their company they work for is a good ideal for unknown reasons. Law enforcement professionals use criminal theory to understand criminal actions as Sutherland s major sociological contribution to criminology was a differential association theory as it was similar to the importance to the strain theory and social control theory. The individual s social relationship explains the deviance of these theories. Both biological and classical theories, poses no obvious threats to the humane treatment of those identified as criminals. (Gaylord, 1988:1) In the 1939 edition of Principles of Criminology, the first statement of the theory of differential association appears and in the fourth edition as he presents his final theory. As follows his theory has 9 basic postulates. 1. Criminal behavior is learned. Criminal behavior is not inherited and does not invent criminal behavior. 2. Criminal behavior is learned through ... Mental illnesses are medical conditions that affect a person s mental health. They are as serious as other disorders such as diabetes and should be treated as so. The amount of talk by those who aren t well informed and often assume has created many misconceptions about mental illnesses. In order to successfully make those around people with mental illnesses to be aware of the harm these disorders cause a person these misconceptions need to be cleared. Mental illnesses need to be treated like the threat they indeed are like real illnesses. Mental illnesses are conditions in which a person s mental health is affected to a point that they aren t able to cope with life s expectations. An example is a common known disorder known as depression, when someone experiences depression they may feel like they no longer want to thrive and be happy in their life. This happens due to the amount of brain activity the disorder causes to diminish. According to www.nimh.nih.gov when a person has depression he or she may expirience being very tired, a loss of interest in activites once enjoyed, and thoughts or attemp of suicide. But for the women actually engaged in an activity or profession, there were only archetypes: the flamenco dancer in her red gown, the bride in her flowing veil, the princess in her gold tiara. There was a set of ballet dancers complete with bunny ears and black leotards, their smiles indicating that, gosh, they were so grateful to God and everyone, really, for this opportunity to pose for Playboy. There was a woman getting her hair cut, and another with her arm out, Valley Girl, osmosis ditz, as if to say, Tenure? What is tenure? That sounds like an injury! Ow i! Where, I wanted to know, was the fierce professor working her way to tenure? Where was the lawyer? The accountant? The surgeon? How was there space for both a bento box and a single fried coconut shrimp, and yet women were restricted to a smattering of tired, beauty centric roles? This was not a problem for our male emoji ... Not a creature of mythical imagination, but something real. I d read, I told her, a recent report about several hundred thousand penguins trapped by a collapsed glacier in Antarctica. Thousands had died, but the ones that survived did so only through perseverance regularly traveling some 40 miles across barren nothingness to reach the ocean. Outsourcing can be defined as the contracting of a business process to a third party . In the USA, outsourcing is thought of as a bad, dirty word, spoken about in hushed tones and secrecy amongst upper classmen and business moguls. As stated by W. Rivkin, Professor of Business Administration at Harvard Business School, The off shoring phenomenon has implications for policymakers, business leaders, and members of the workforce (Hanna, J. How Many U.S. Jobs Are Offshorable? ). Politicians give people their false assurances and empty promises to stop it, and businesses feel the need to down play their involvement in it. Setting up and operating a textile factory for example, comes at a fraction of the comparable cost back in the USA or UK. Also, these businesses simultaneously look to amplify the quantity and type of products/goods on offer to their consumers, of which, many of them are also offered by their partners and competitors. In turn, this has tended to gear such businesses to ruthless cost saving exercises such as redundancies, cutting existing workforce etc. Consequently, traditional corporate red tape goes out of the proverbial window and things take a turn for the worse as companies compete to offer the latest and cheapest products to the masses, sparking an almost all out war amongst them. The result of this is; staffing, health and safety, and regulatory adherence all find themselves taking a back seat to profit margins, and usually it is to areas of the world where needs or necessities sadly, almost always get trumped by prudence and vigilance. All this, in the name of saving a few bucks . The outsourcing of non core business and services has risen in recent years. The top benefactor of this rise has been India. Corporations have found a profusion of well trained, English speaking workers to cram into call centers and customer service jobs. This is even happening in high skill positions like hospital X rays technicians also. India is seen as the pioneer in outsourcing jobs ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In other words the refinery was falling apart (PBS: Frontline). On March 23, 2005, 15 people were killed and 170 were injured in an explosion at BP s Texas City refinery (Schorn). It was the worst workplace accident in this country since 1989 (Schorn). BP, like Amoco, considered replacing an antiquated blowdown drum used to collect gasoline. However, BP decided to bank a saving of $150,000 and just repair the blowdown drum, because capital expenditure was very tight (Schorn). According to many experts, this savings was the direct cause of the 2005 explosion. On March 23, 2005, BP employees began restarting a unit that had been down for repairs. The blowdown drum began to fill with gasoline, but it overflowed and sent a geyser of gasoline into the air (PBS: Frontline). The cloud of gas created from the drum was ignited by an idle truck. According to Edwin Black, eugenics is the effort to create a white, blue eyed, blond haired, Nordic master race in the United States, and wipe away the existence of everyone who did not fit that ideal . Black goes further by explaining the implementation of this ideal, saying Now who did they want to wipe away? They wanted to wipe away Mexicans, Italians. They wanted to wipe away the Asians the Jews, those who they believed were feeble minded, the Deaf, the poor. The Oxford University Press defines eugenics as the science of improving a human population by controlled breeding to increase the occurrence of desirable heritable characteristics with a further and rather illuminating explanation which states, Developed largely by Francis Galton as a method of improving the human race, it fell into disfavor only after the perversion of its doctrines by the Nazis . 2. What did you learn exactly from Edwin Black that you may have not learned in American History? If I had been asked when eugenics began in practice, I would likely have pointed at Nazi era Europe prior to seeing Edwin Black s presentation. • 14. Romanticism In British Literature Romanticism is British Literature was never a real movement and was a word used to put the most distinctive writers who thrived in the last years of the 18th century and the first decades of the 19th centuries into a group. The term Romantic literature was actually a little bit misleading since there were no movements of romanticism back then. The writers back in that period did not call themselves Romantic writers, not until August Wilhelm von Schlegel s Vienna lectures of 1808 through 1809 showed a vague difference between Classicism and Romanticism. The examples of the French Revolution had an impact on the Romantic Movement in other ways. Romanticism elevated the achievements of what it perceived as misunderstood heroic individuals and artists that altered society and legitimized the individual imagination as a critical authority which permitted freedom from classical notions of form in art. Other aspects of romanticism were intertwined with Emotion, Lyric Poetry, and Self. Increased activity from the imagination was achieved by more importance of the instincts and feelings of the authors. They generally called more attention towards the emotion as it was a necessary add on to make logic and reason. When this emphasis was added to the establishment of poetry, a very important transformation of focus happened. Wordsworth s definition of all good poetry as the spontaneous overflow of powerful feelings marks a turning point in literary history. By finding the best ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The drama of violence in sports and particularly in football is of major concern for the Greek government, because of the 2004 Olympic Games that will be held in Athens. A great debate is on in Greece these days, in order to institute measures for confrontation of football hooliganism. The previous minister of sports Mr Lianis tried to implement the British model of hooliganism elimination expensive tickets, denial of entrance and stigmatisation of fans that in the past showed aggressive behaviour, severe financial penalties for football clubs that directly or indirectly tolerate these groups of supporters but these measures where ineffective. Violent incidents still continued to occur in the Greek football league. In June of 2004 the newly elected minister of sports Mr Orfanos started a new scheme for confrontation of violent incidents in sports. But the same mistake was repeated for one more time. The governmental bodies responsible for the implementation of this anti hooliganism scheme Hellenic Ministry of Culture and Hellenic Football Association (E.P.O) did not take under consideration the views and the perceptions of the Greek fans on this issue. • 19. Septic Shock Research Paper Septic shock is the stage of sepsis when multiple organ failure is evident and uncontrolled bleeding of the body occurs. Septic shock results from the complication of an infection where toxins initiate a full body inflammatory response. Viral, fungal, and bacterial infections can all lead to septic shock, but the most common causes of sepsis are gram negative bacteria and gram positive bacteria. Sepsis causes severe hypovolemic shock and hypodynamic cardiac function to affect the body, platelets and clotting factors are consumed and thus the body cannot clot blood. Capillary leak occurs and cardiac contractility is poor from cellular ischemia (Ignatavicius Workman, 2011). For a person to be diagnosed with septic shock, they must have symptoms ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Diagnosis is often made with a blood test. This type of test can determine if any of the following factors are present: bacteria in the blood, problems with clotting due to low platelet count, excess waste products in the blood, abnormal liver or kidney function, decreased amount of oxygen, or electrolyte imbalance. Depending on your symptoms and the results of the blood test, there are other tests that a doctor may want to perform to determine the source of your infection. Other tests that can be performed include: urine test, wound secretion test (if you have an open area that looks infected), mucus secretion test (to see what type of germ is behind the infection), or a brain and spinal fluid test. In cases where the source of the infection is not clear from the tests, a doctor might want to get an internal view of your body using X rays, computed tomography scan, ultrasound or a magnetic resonance imaging. X rays allow a doctor to get a good view of the lungs while a computed tomography (CT) scans provides a view of possible infections in the appendix, pancreas, or bowel areas. An ultrasound shows a view of infections in the gallbladder or ovaries and the magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) gives doctors a view of any soft tissue infections, such as spinal ... Thin Client vs. Fat Client Network Design Thin Client vs. Fat Client Network Design Considerations Introduction Network computing was created in an effort to allow users of a computer application to share data more easily than using stand alone computers. Clients on a client/server network store their application data on a central server. There are two categories of clients on a network. They were originally categorized by their hardware design, but today clients are categorized by the software application design and where the bulk of the processing is done and where the bulk of the application software is stored. A thin client, sometimes called a lean client, is a low cost, centrally managed computer. The term derives from the fact that small computers in networks tend ... The Citrix product does have server capacity problems when sending multimedia over a network, but basic word processing and accounting programs are practical over a Citrix network. This transition has made it once again easier to operate in a centralized processing computing environment. Today further enhancements to HTML are allowing more graphic intensive applications to be created. Macromedia Flash, Shockwave, and ActiveX Controls are enhancements to HTML which are allowing for a thin client application to have dynamic graphical interfaces. Load balancing systems such as Coyote Point Systems Equalizers are allowing reliable networks with redundant servers and application load spread over multiple servers. Lower telecommunication and standard routing protocols such as BGP have allowed remote offices relying on network access to have redundant routes to the internet or central servers. Part B #1 Selecting computer hardware and software for a company is an important management decision. This decision will have a direct impact on operational efficiency and competitive advantage. The most important management and organizational issue to consider is total cost of ownership. In considering a fat client or thin client network application design, managers must know what their total cost of ownership is. In many cases a thin client design has a higher up ... Without even realizing it, young children, specifically girls, are taught by movies like Cinderella that they should prize beauty. Society continuously values beauty as people of different races and cultures have gone to extremes just for this elegance: from Chinese foot binding to inflexible corsets from the Victorian times. While plastic surgery existed in ancient times, only recently has it been accepted by the majority of modern day society. Thousands of hard earned dollars each year are used for these very elaborate surgeries. This increase of money in plastic surgeons pockets results from the desire of having a perfect life, wanting a younger look, and social media influences. As society itself becomes more and more obsessed with the idea of perfection and no human having any flaw, females feel the pressure of correcting any flaw on their bodies. This idea becomes reinforced in reality television shows, advertisements, magazines, and newspapers. In advertisements, rarely does someone see another person with a crooked nose or a wrinkled face. Rather, these people typically have a straight nose, full face, and a slim body. Somewhere in the past few decades, humans have equated the perfect body with the perfect life. • 44. General Fund Enterprise Business System Joseph Weiss (2012) tells us that planned organizational change is a process that moves companies from a present state to a desired future state with the goal of enhancing their effectiveness. Yet the process of changing can be painful and less than successful. This is the story of the USPFO for California and their poor managing of two simultaneous transformational changes to the organization: transitioning to the General Fund Enterprise Business System (GFEBS) and splitting and relocating the organization to two distant locales. The strategic plan was ill fated and resulted in a leadership/employee estrangement and a silent organizational civil war. • 45. Using Data Analysis And Record Keeping Excel and access are two different programs that are used in data analysis and record keeping. They both have their advantages and disadvantages of using them but over the years one has grown to dominate the field of records and analysis. Access is made up of seven major components which are relationships, queries, forms, reports, modules, tables and macros (Brady Monk, 2009). Due to this complexity of divisions, using it becomes cumbersome the hence not the right tool for data analysis unlike excel where you only enter the data in tables. Over the years excel has proven to be the perfect platform to collect and analyze data on. This is due to constant improvements in data analysis formulas, graphs, charts and analysis styles the latest one being pivot tables. The greatest advantage of excel is that it is easily compatible with other business software s hence ability to offer better results. Giving the ease of entering data in excel the first priority in the hierarchy of its advantages, other facts that stand out in excel include building great charts using pie charts and graphs. This will help a lot in the presentation of data collected. Use of conditional formatting is another fact that makes excel stand out against access. This is because you have the ability to format orders differently depending on customers or goods ordered. The last very important advantage of excel is the ability to analyze data and identify different trends of different customers or goods ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 46. The Inferno By Dante And The Allegory Of The Cave The significance and connotation of light seems to be driven by its relation to truth. Truth is some thing that has been debated since the beginning of human thought. Even in western philosophy alone, the meaning of light has changed, creating a one to question the sole symbol light can act as. Plato s argument equates truth to light, while Dante s argument equates God to light. Dante argues that the light is guiding, rather than definite. Through these two examples, I will show that light symbolizing the equivalent of truth or searching for truth yields problems. To support my claim, I will look at The Inferno by Dante and The Allegory of the Cave by Plato, whose interpretations of light appear to work well with one another. First, I will analyze the significance of in a non religious context. Second, I will analyze the significance of in a religious context. Thirdly, I will show why this metaphor of light yield problems for the viewer of light. In Plato s Allegory of the Cave, light represents a definitive truth. After seeing the form of the good , in the physical world, light is produced, paralleling, in the mental world, truth and understanding is produced (Plato 211). Since seeing the light is only obtained seeing the Truth, Plato regards light as an end rather than a means to find a higher truth. This light in The Allegory of the Cave prevents humans from behaving awkwardly and appearing completely ridiculous (Plato 211). Plato argues that the light destroys ... • 47. What Is Data Visualization 1. Introduction The Electronic Health Records (EHR) has become pervasive. As a result, medical and health professionals have to grapple with an abundance of digital data. There can be no doubt that we need to systematically collect, organize, consolidate and present data to users such as healthcare professionals, primarily in order to decrease cognitive load and improve efficiency in diagnosing and treating patients. The visual representation of information can go a long way in alleviating information overload and also in improving decision making within the clinical environment. However, factors such as perception of visualization tools by healthcare professionals may impede their effective implementation and reduce usefulness of these ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The paper focuses on challenges in data visualization in EHR and recommends possible remedies using human centered design. 2. Visualization In general, the term Visualization is defined as the development of a visual image in the human mind. However that is more than simply a graphical representation of data or concepts, as visualization can work as a cognitive tool, and becomes a powerful strategy in the construction of knowledge using human percipient and cognitive capacities. This definition is based on the work of Stuart Card (Card 1999); he defines Visualization as being the use of visual representations of abstract data, supported by computers and in order to extend the cognition, in an interactive mode (Dulclerci Joao, 2010). Visualization can further assist humans with their data analysis through visual representation of the information. This assistance is defined as cognitive support. Ware defines visualization as a graphical representation of data and concepts , which is either an internal construct of the mind or an external artifact support decision making (Troy Moller, 2004). Visualization is not only useful for data observation. It essentially contributes in a far significant manner to the process of data analysis. When the input data is organized ... Hcs 235 Health Care Utilization Paper Health Care Utilization HCS235 Health Care Utilization HCS 235 October 30, 2012 Health Care Utilization The Affordable Care Act was signed into law March 23, 2010 by President Barack Obama; however, the constitutionality of the law remained in question. In a controversial 5 to 4 ruling, The U.S. Supreme Court upheld the law on June 28, 2012. The ACA is thought by some as the United States health care rescue, and as its downfall by others. It is estimated that the ACA will provide new services to 64 million Americans, providing health care coverage to 32 million previously uninsured. In addition to providing new health insurance coverage, the ACA implemented several components that can expand access to health care. One policy ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The aim of the ACA is to provide affordable health care to all Americans, but it still leaves some issues unaddressed that will impact the access to health care. Covino (n.d.), Though the intentions of the legislation are good, the Affordable Care Act does little to improve the actual health care delivery system (para.1, page 2). According to the American Medical Association, we are facing an increasing Physician shortage. As of 2010 we faced a shortfall of 13,700 physicians, the estimate is that number will increase to 62,900 by 2015, 91,500 by 2020, and 130,600 by 2025 (Krupa, n.d.), with primary care taking the largest impact. Health Care coverage will be of no benefit if there are no doctors to treat the patients. An example of this occurred in 2002 when Thailand s 30 Bhat Scheme added (CNN n.d.) 14 million people to the country s health care system, resulting in long waits and subpar service (Your health is covered, but who is going to treat you?) Several factors contribute to the physician shortage. Many physicians are reaching the age of retirement, the Association of American Medical Colleges estimates nearly 15 million physicians will be eligible for Medicare in the coming years (CNN n.d.). The increasing cost of malpractice insurance also deters many from pursuing a career in medicine, and is forcing some doctors to retire. Also contributing to the physician shortage is a lack of spots in residency programs. In 2011, more than 7,000 were left ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 50. Masculinity In Moonlight Music plays in the background as a blue vintage car pulls into a driveway. The car stops, and so does the music. The driver, a middle aged black man tosses a pack of cigarettes on the dashboard and steps out of the car. This is the opening scene of Moonlight, written by Barry Jenkins and Tarrell Alvin McCraney. Moonlight follows Chiron, an African American boy throughout three periods of his life, portrayed by three different acts: Little, Chiron and Black. It is a film that influenced my perspective on African American social life on multiple levels, specifically the presence of hyper masculinity, the view on sexuality and the drugs in struggling communities. Moonlight is one of the few glimpses I ve had of primarily black communities, and certainly the first glimpse of a gay African American boy growing up in a black community I have seen in any form of mainstream media. Prior to watching this movie, I didn t know much about many aspects of African American social life in regards to sexuality, drugs and hyper masculinity. I thought that it was more or less similar to the views on sexuality and hyper masculinity I have witnessed in my own life. The mainstream views on masculinity and sexuality (specifically in boys) I have witnessed are primarily that being masculine is a positive trait for boys, and that if one is not at least slightly masculine, they are either gay or joking. In regards to the presence of drugs in struggling black communities, I only know of what I hear ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
