Government Control In The Government Of 1984 By George Orwell
In the book 1984, George Orwell describes the life of a man named Winston who works for the Ever
prevalent INGSOC. INGSOC is a society controlling government that is split into three parts. The
inner party, the outer party, and the proles. INGSOC is omnipotent and all controlling of every aspect
of people s lives. This dictatorial society is horrifying to the minds of americans who have nearly total
freedom in their actions and thought. However, with recent changes in government policy on
surveillance, war, education, and the increase of fear of outsiders, it begs the question. Is America
becoming 1984? In the book 1984 by George Orwell, the citizens of Oceania are so fearful and hateful
of the other countries being Eurasia and Eastasia, that they have a daily Two minutes hate which the
government uses to enforce the hate of foreign people upon the population. Included in this
government produced distaste, they have created a Hate Week . A whole week dedicated to hating and
watching propaganda against the party s current enemy. While America does not have nearly as much
propaganda and active government allocated hate for other peoples, American racism and distaste of
foreign peoples, mainly those being of mexican, muslim, and middle eastern races, has grown. In
america, few peoples face more prejudice and hate than muslim americans. So much hate crime and
fear surrounds muslims that they have even developed a word for it, Islamophobia . Islamophobia may

Generalized Anxiety Disorder ( Gad )
Generalized Anxiety Disorder (GAD) is one of the most diagnosed mental disorders today, and can
often be closely linked to concurrent symptoms or disorders including physiological, behavioral, other
anxiety disorders, depression and substance abuse. (Merino, Senra Ferreiro, 2016) (Cacioppo
Fregberg, 2013, p. 688). GAD most notably produces symptoms of excessive worry and anxiety
related to non specific risks, which often leads to functional decline both socially and professionally
(Roberge et al., 2015). GAD reveals instances of links to biological origins such as heredity and
biochemistry, as well as, ties to an individual s cognitive development and socioeconomic
environment (Cacioppo Fregberg, 2013).
GAD s potentially interwoven origin marks significant challenges for diagnosis and treatment.
Patients often leave the opportunity for diagnosis of GAD to the primary caregiver (Roberge et al.,
2015). Primary care professionals must be able to attribute physiological symptoms to psychological
conditions in many of these cases to prevent missed or misdiagnosis, as well as correctly evaluate
potential psychological disorders akin to GAD. The Roberge et al. (2015) research article indicates the
need for increased efforts in preparing primary care professionals to properly screen and diagnose
patients with GAD.
Preferred treatment for GAD includes medication and cognitive behavioral therapy, but more
extensive therapy may be called upon in some instances of recurrence or

Delta rice mill case study
identify problems in operations
Looking at the operational system at Delta Rice Mill Operations, there are obviously some problems
existing there.
Firstly, they are having problem in their equipment of production. As it is mentioned in the case study,
the Delta Factory was acquired in 1976, it is a long period of time and slowing down in capacity is an
unavoidable thing. The old and unreliable equipment would lead to the breakdown in production
frequently. Moreover, the old system would cost the company high in maintaining. Hence, the old and
unreliable equipment lead to inability of meeting the demand, it ... Show more content on

Moreover, the arbitrary set of rules and corporate policy has been further modified at Delta Rice Mill
due to old, unreliable equipment. For the next reason, the problem bases on worker s willing to work
on or dedicate one line to each size. Actually, it may decrease the productivity in some cases. Last but
not least, the Delta Rice Mill want to increase their sales and remain the product s quality as well as
ensure to be on time for every shipments all time of year. For those mentioned reason above, if Delta
Rice Mill wants to rise their performance in production and reduce the cost, they have to deal with
those dilemmas as well.
Solutions:
In the first solution for up to date infrastructures, we found out that there are two ways to deal with.
Replacing the production system is he first way. In this case, we just replace the parking line but not
processing line. However, as a result it will rocket the cost in investment and it may need a longtime
to get the money back. Thus it is just suitable for a long term solution planning. The other key for this
issue, we should make a comparison between the total cost of the current production system with
overtime work hours with the total cost of the regular work hours however Delta Rice Mill will tend to
produce a same amount of production for every months with no overtime work hours. On the other
hand, the

Edmund Spenser Research Paper
Edmund Spenser was born into a relatively poor family in East Smithfield, London, England in 1552
(there remains a degree of ambiguity to the exact date of his birth). This information is acquired from
sonnet lx. in the Amoretti where he speaks of having lived 41 years, as of 1595. Although he was
related to an affluent and noble Midlands family of Spencer, his own immediate family was not
particularly wealthy. There also remains some ambiguity to the specificities of Spenser s childhood,
though it is known that he was entered as a poor boy in the Merchant Taylor s grammar school, where
he studied primarily Latin, with specks of Hebrew, Greek, and music thrown in sporadically. Edmund
Spenser began his illustrious writing career as early as 16, as there are poems of his found in a
miscellany, by the name of Theatre for Worldlings, that are accredited to being ... Show more content

This expansive knowledge of the traditional forms and themes of lyrical and narrative poetry offered
sufficient foundations for the formulation of his own highly original compositions. Without the study
of the Roman epic poet Virgil s Aeneid, the 15th century Ludovico Ariosto s Orlando furioso, and,
later, Torquato Tasso s Gerusalemme liberate, Spenser would not of been able to create his heroic, or
epic, poem The Faerie Queene. Without Virgil s Bucolics, and the later tradition of pastoral poetry in
Italy and France, Spenser would not have came up with and written the The Shepheardes Calender.
Lastly, without the Latin, Italian, and French examples of the highly traditional marriage ode and the
sonnet and canzone forms of Petrarch and succeeding sonneteers, Spenser could not have written his
most notable lyric, Epithalamion, and its accompanying sonnets,

Putting Constitutional Protections in the Backseat for...
A country born of laws, rights and citizenship with the idea of a free people to govern over
themselves, was the original intent of the American experience. However, America did not inherit
traditional bonds of a national identity, so it had to rely on a few cultural foundations that became
critical in deciding who belonged in the American experience. The pillars seemed to be a common
language of English, a religion based on a broad view of Christianity, and the notion of a traditional
family. As more people were included politically, more people were excluded culturally if they did not
conform to some version of those three expected characteristics. This weeks reading demonstrates
how Constitutional guarantees take a backseat in the wake ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

The abuse of power transcended national boarders as the U.S. government turned a blind eye to
American troops engaged in the unleashed and unchecked torture of prisoners of war. The use of
torture is not in the national interest, as it has been found that the intelligence gained through torture is
unreliable. Like the Japanese after Pearl Harbor, America consistently presses or even oversteps its
Constitutional boundaries in times of national security. The cultural foundations deeply ingrained in
the American experience provide little relief towards an amicable concept of Rooted
Cosmopolitanism. Southern California is an outlier, geographically dethatched with an aura of
modernity. Rapidly advancing modernization and an influx of religious diversity emerged in tandem;
the effect Christianity molded to secular exigencies shaping a pluralistic state. However, Southern
California reflects a religious model independently formed, largely out of reach from the grip of
ripened American values and democratic traditions prevailing in the eastern part of the country. The
distasteful reality, in which Roof did not address, is what would happen if Southern California bred
the emergence of a religious practice similar to that of polygamy in Utah? Society and the Courts have
fiercely preserved traditional American values, and would without doubt precipitously intervene.
Perhaps, religious pluralism flourished so well in Southern California because, as Roof cited,

Genghis Khans Effect On The Management Of Conquered...
Genghis Khans effect on the Management of conquered civilizations.
The Mongol empire was one of the most prevalent, feared, and influential empires to ever gallop
across this earth. They were revolutionaries of there time. There military tactics, horsemanship, and
leadership system all helped maintain and profligate an immense powerhouse that reaped havoc on
anyone standing in there path. However it was there governance and leadership after they had
conquered these lands that was most surprising

Temujin s ability to unify these radically polar people was the jumping off point in the reign and
legacy of the Mongol empire. His sheer capability and practices were then engrained into successors
that was most impressive. The Mongolian Empire speedily conquered staggering amounts of land in
only a finite amount of time, but their most imposing obstacle was finding a way to govern these
foreign lands. Genghis Khan was the first to integrate the Mongols into these societies, and with their
expert military skills, they overthrew surrounding nations and captured their lands. Genghis knew that
he couldn t adopt an umbrella policy for vastly differing nations, so the Mongols who occupied each
subjected nation reigned over the people and installed different governmental structures that suited
particular societies. One of his monumental creations that defined ruling structure, was that of his
Yasa. This was essentially a guide on the ethics and precedence s of the Mongols. It created stability
within Mongol s that allowed them to focus on maintaining their grip on other colonies without
infringing too much upon the culture.
The Golden horde was the main military reckoning of the Mongols and is what allowed them to take
over and acculturate into such expansive quantity of terrain in such brief amount of time. The Golden

Derek Curtis Bok
Derek Curtis Bok, not only known for his prominent status of serving as dean of Harvard Law School,
but serving as president of Harvard University for twenty years. Bok wrote a particular essay named
Preparing for a Career in which he discusses both liberal arts and vocational programs in the education
system. In Preparing for a Career Bok s main idea he engraves into the essay is the fact that vocational
and liberal arts program should consolidate into one program to produce better, prepared, hybrid
students. Bok throughout the essay continues to explain the characteristics liberal arts and vocational
programs contain by putting himself in their perspective views. As Bok s essay progresses so do his
views on vocational and liberal arts ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The first point Bok brings up in the vocational program is the fact that the students in vocational
programs are focused on perfecting the competent skills needed in their career. This gives the students
in the vocational program an advantage since they will graduate with the skills needed to hit the
ground running and have a better chance than liberal arts students in acquiring a job. Bok mentions a
downfall about vocational programs in which vocational focuses so much on the skills students don t
learn the essential traditional skills of college. Bok then continues on to give the liberal arts side of his
perspective, in which he states, The most important step that Arts and Sciences faculties can take is
simply to do a better job of achieving the traditional goals of liberal education (Derek Bok, 42). Bok
believes the advantage of liberal arts is the key fact that students learn the abilities vocational students
don t such as communication, critical thinking, problem solving, self discipline, creativity, and human
relation skills. The two disadvantages Bok mentions is that liberal arts students will have a more
difficult time acquiring a job during the first ten years of work compared to vocational students and
liberal arts professors disregard the need to teach skills that will be learned on the job. Bok has a
neutral point

Chaldeans In America
A refugee is generally thought of as an individual who flees their country due to (but not limited to)
racial, religious, or ideological persecution. These people often leave war torn countries where
violence and tyranny strips the very freedoms and opportunities that are the inalienable backbone of
the United States. It is no surprise, then, that immigrants from every stretch of the planet have settled
in America, freely practicing their beliefs and often playing a critical role in the entrepreneurial
development of our capitalist foundation. One such group is the Chaldeans. Hailing from small
villages in the north of Iraq a place historically referred to as Mesopotamia where the ancient
Babylonians once made their home, the Chaldeans are a Catholic group of people who speak Aramaic,
the language of Christ. Throughout the last century, the introduction of Saddam Hussein and the ...

Learning and Memory Essays
xxLEARNING AND MEMORY Learning is the process of gaining knowledge or skills through study,
experience or teaching. It is a process that depends on experience and leads to long term changes in
the possible behaviour of an individual in a given situation, in order to achieve a goal. Memory is a
property of the human mind. It describes the ability to retain information. There are different types of
classifications for memory based on duration, nature and retrieval of items. The generally accepted
classification of memory is based on how long you can remember an item or experience (memory
retention), and identifies three types of memory: sensory memory, short term memory, and long term

from its curved shape, which supposedly resembles that of a seahorse. Doctors and scientists dispute
the exact role of the hippocampus, but agree that it has an essential role in the formation of new
memories about personally experienced events. Some researchers prefer to consider the hippocampus
as part of a larger medial temporal lobe memory system responsible for declarative memory. When a
long term, declarative memory is made, certain neuronal connections in the temporal lobe are
strengthened, and others are weakened. These changes are fairly permanent, however some may take

Concert Critique #1 I have never been personally a fan of the romantic orchestra music but going to
listen to a concert live is breathtaking. I attended the Fayetteville Symphony Orchestra, Masterpieces
concert with music director Fouad Fakhouri performing Igor Stravinsky s Symphony of Psalms and
Gustav Mahler s Symphony No.1 in D major. There was a full stage of musicians and a complete
choir to back it up.
The first half of the performance was a complete orchestra of woodwinds, strings, drums, brass,
excreta and a four part choir. Overall the performance took no longer than thirty minutes to play the
three part Symphony of Psalms. This Symphony was much shorter than I was ... Show more content

Mr. Fakhouri had also explained how this is one of his favorite pieces and just had to have his
orchestra perfect, as they did successfully.
After a minor wobble of the director stand, a few adjustments and giggles, Symphony No.1 in D major
began. The first movement started off with an eerie introduction, with the first two notes morphing
into a birdcall as well as main theme but a very magical sound. It made for a very soothing, romantic
time. Throughout the piece I felt as if it told a story as most music does, what I came to believe it was
a love story. The Allegro begins in the cello with the second Wayfarer song, Ging heut morgen Ubers
Feld, (I Walked this Morning over the Field). With a light and happy tone in the beginning as if two
lovers had just met, this was the main theme of this movement. Suddenly there was a deep, heavy part
maybe one of despair in paradise but that only lasted for a short period as it came to a victorious
ending of happily ever after. (Kahn)
The second movement Scherzo, gave more of an elegant, royal ball sound. Where the women dress in
gowns and the men in tuxedos, while drinking wine and dancing the night away. This movement has
the rhythm of the Landler, an Australian folk dance. It conforms to the classic minuet and trio form
though Mahler takes the first section beyond the standard repeat structure. The first three notes of the
Scherzo and the Trio recall the birdcall theme from the first movement. If

clarity;
For treated water, the clarity would be very clear because of how many times it has been cleaned and
filtered again and again. For the river is probably clear because of how many times the river has been
flowing through the tree roots and rocks by blocking the dirt, pee, and poo behind. Unlike the river,
the tank water does not flow through any substances but it does get cleaned by the owner. The pond

The pH of the river is probably in a range from 6 to 8 because it is very clean and can be used a
drinking water. The pond water is in a range from 7 to 10 because it does not look drinkable. The tank
water is 4 to 6 because of the fish poop and pee in that water.
Phosphates;
The pond water might have been affected by the rain because when it rains then there is a lot is
Phosphates in the water and if it doesn t then the water is fresh. There might be the tiniest bit of
Phosphates in the treated water because it has been treated various times. For the river water, the
Phosphates might be affected the same way as the pond water because it is once again open outside.
There might be high levels of phosphates in the tank water because of the food and what is inside it.

Benefits of Physical Education in Elementary and Early Childhood Settings
The need for quality physical education in elementary schools is an important needed foundation for
young children to maintain a future healthy lifestyle. The benefits of having physical education in
elementary schools are endless. For example, physical education helps fight childhood obesity, lower
the risk of heart disease and type 2 diabetes, and promote active children to be active adults. However,

However, they noted that schools without the funds to hire properly trained physical education
teachers will have to rely on current staff members to cover the new physical education classes
(Borland, 2011). Unfortunately, this becomes a problem in most schools, because teachers feel like
there is not enough time to focus on physical education because they are burden by producing test
scores also. However, it is not a lost cause. Teachers can implement physical education in their
classroom in simple methods of the lesson they are teaching. For example, in math, teachers can have
students count their jumps, while they jump up and down, or do jump in jacks when spelling out
words. Schools are evaluated on test scores for core curriculums like math, writing, and reading, not
body and fitness. Understandably, those subjects are very important as well as physical education.
Research has shown that there are ways to alleviate the budget constraints for physical education.
There are four grants in particular to help. One is the Carol M. White Physical Education Program, the
main program by the federal government for elementary schools. The grant is given to community
organizations that distribute funds to assist schools with their physical education and after school
programs. The funds are given to Local Education Agencies, or LEAs, that then distribute money to
schools in

Wifi Research Papers
Wi Fi, also known as wireless fidelity is a wireless technology based on the 802.11 network. Wi Fi is
an excellent technology that makes it possible for computers and personal digital assistants (PDA s) to
connect to the internet wirelessly. This technology makes it possible for users to access data online
whenever they are near an access point, which is commonly referred to as a hotspot . While there are
both advantages and disadvantages of Wi Fi technology, I believe that the advantages outweigh the
disadvantages and that Wi Fi will get better, faster, and more secure in time. During the late 90 s the

Identity theft is huge and a lot of hotspot locations are vulnerable to attacks. As security gets better,
hackers too learn new and faster methods to hack hotspot connections to gain users valuable
information. T Mobile and AT T, the largest providers of Wi Fi hot spots in coffee shops, bookstores
and airports, don t require encryption of data traveling wirelessly between laptops and the Internet.
Neither do hotels and municipalities with free Wi Fi hookups in public areas. If you re using Wi Fi in a
public place and you re not getting hacked, it s only because there s nobody around bothering to do it,
says Robert Graham, CEO of consultancy Errata Security (Acohido, 2007). Wi Fi users need to be
aware of both pros and cons. While users aren t limited to location as they are with cables connecting
them, they are limited when it comes to securing their connection at a hotspot. Users need to be aware
of this and take advantage of the information that s out there so they can help protect personal
information from getting into the wrong hands. Wi Fi has come along way since the late 90 s, and as
long as users stay aware of both the good and bad that come with this technology, hotspots will
continue to expand over the globe.
Some people call it stealing, while others call it borrowing. Most users call it free loading , and it s

Book Review Of Fahrenheit 451, By Ray Bradbury
Fahrenheit 451, written by Ray Bradbury, centers around Guy Montag, a fireman ; one who burns
books. In this book, books are outlawed, and anyone who owns books has their house burned, along

1990 s, but the exact location or year is not stated in the book. In the book, the United States is on the
brink of war with another country, although the country is never named. The book begins with Montag

also discovers the book that Montag brought home, which then makes him reveal to her, after Beatty
has left, that he s been keeping a secret library. Montag requests that Mildred reads the books with
him, and that they can start a new life by doing so.
After reading for an afternoon, Mildred doesn t find any enjoyment from reading, and she questions
why she should do it. Montag, on the other hand, saw someone die for these books, so he keeps
looking for something special in them. He then remembers that he once had an encounter with a
retired english professor named Faber, who gave Montag his address for the files the firemen keep of
the people in town. He goes to Faber s house so he can be taught to understand what he s reading.
What eventually happens is that Faber and Montag devise a plan; to print copies of books and plant
them in houses that belong to firemen all around the country, to slowly lower the amount of firemen
until there aren t any left. To find out the firemen s weaknesses, Faber gives Montag a device he can

Drug Cartels in Mexico
The Mexican drug cartels have been a cancer that has grown through out Mexico. Influenced by
Colombian cartels, such as the Pablo Escobar s Medellin and the Cali Cartel. In 2008, over 5,600
people were killed in Mexico; many were torture/or beheaded (Hixson, 2009). It has stretched from
the border town of Tijuana all the way to the beaches of Cancun. Many people have been robbed,
tortured, kidnapped, injured, and murdered through out the domestic drug war that is going on in
Mexico. Police officers have been known to take bribes from different drug traffickers, which has
given more power to the drug cartels. Even some politicians have been accused of being backed by

off from the cartel and began independently building capacity in the drug trade and violent crime in

Cartels have different ways of gaining money other then just distributing drugs, such as kidnapping
which has recently become very popular. In early 2008, a wave of kidnappings spread across the state
targeting the children of prominent businessmen (Kellner amp; Pipitone, 2010). For example in May
2008, Nicolás Martínez Reyes, the son of a wine supplier, was kidnapped from El Pescador del Pargo,
a busy seafood restaurant in downtown Aguascalientes where he was dining with a group of friends.
Martínez Reyes was held captive for 35 days. His kidnappers tortured him and cut off one of his
fingers before his father agreed to pay the ransom (Kellner amp; Pipitone, 2010). The drug cartels
have no boundaries to where they will go for money, these organizations seem to have no compassion.
The police and public have tried to stand up to the cartels but have had no success (Kellner amp;

After twenty years, ordinances legitimizing enslavement were commonplace in almost every colony
and the practice had morphed into bondage for life, or more properly, chattel slavery.5 These practices
were immoral; they had no place in a respectable society.
The pernicious tendency to view the Africans through the white supremacist lens quickly became
dominant and was a concomitant of this chattel slavery. This was punctuated by the knowledge that
Europeans were never enslaved while most enslaved people were Africans.6 The skin color of the
enslaved became a facile marker that fit in well with the culturally supremacist view of the European
colonists. IMPORTATION
In this section I try to show how the African Slave System, after gaining a foothold went on to become
the most important part of the economy of the new Nation:
As the profitability of the colonists agricultural enterprises quickly rose, it was essential to procure a
sufficient number of workers since labor shortages were a constant headache.7 Enslavement of the
Indigenous Peoples had become steadily more problematic and by the 1750 s this practice had ceased
altogether.8 European workers were both expensive and tended to leave their employers to start
plantations of their own, or to return home. Therefore, a more reliable source of economically viable
labor became a necessity, and that baleful need coincided with the rise of the Trans Atlantic Slave
Trade from Africa.

Inside J.R.R. Tolkien s The Hobbit
The Hobbit is an extravagant novel that tells the heroic story of the Bilbo Baggins. Although this
fictional novel is a fun and intense adventure story, the author s themes are directed towards everyday
life. Some of the themes that this novel entails are, the calling of becoming a hero, the trails that shape
a person s character, and the helpers in a person s life that shape a person to be able to reach their full
potential. J.R.R. Tolkien uses this novel to express these everyday themes.
The calling of a hero is one of themes that Tolkien expresses through the character Bilbo Baggins. A
hero is directly defined as a person who is admired for great or brave acts of fine qualities. Fine
qualities can consist of things such as strength, athletic ability, and also things like knowledge and
people skills. Everyone has the ability to be a hero. The author wants to send the message that heroes
can be made out of anyone. Becoming a hero isn t about having skills and abilities, it s about
answering the call for a hero and using those things to impact the people around them. Tolkien created
Bilbo to be a hobbit that keeps to himself inside of his home. Bilbo s qualities were brevity and
intelligence. Bilbo always has had the abilities to become a hero, but answering the call and taking the
actions to be a hero was what set Bilbo apart from other hobbits. An up stander is hero everyday.
Everyone has the ability to be brave enough to be an up stander no matter what class, race or

The Effects Of Birth Control On Children
When focusing on the public s opinion on the use of birth control, research and analysis of polls show
that on average, the overall relevant public ranges from ages 15 19 or 18 and older, which would
indicate that they are teenagers post puberty or adults. Most of those surveyed were American females,
which is likely because they are most directly impacted by birth control, considering that they are the
ones taking it, receiving information about it at their doctor s, etc. The relevant public also includes
religious groups; Catholics are the most relevant religious group, as it is the one that throughout the
introduction and usage of birth control has been the most vocal (Gallup, 2012). Also, while females
are the ones taking the birth control, men are another group to consider, as they are closely tied to the
effects of using birth control.
Gallup s study titled Contraception Debate Divides Americans, Including Women includes all of the
subgroups of the public mentioned above. When answering the survey just based on gender, men and
women held similar views in that they both believed equally that even if working for a religious based
employer, birth control should be covered in women s health plans (Gallup, 2011). Yet, when party
affiliation was considered, less men in both parties were in favor of the issue than women. Catholics
believed birth control should not be covered, and this remained the same when party affiliation was
considered (Gallup, 2011). This shows that

Unanimous Verdict vs. Majority Rules Verdicts
The use of a jury is the traditional method within the common law for deciding the facts in any dispute
between parties. The role of a jury is to determine question of fact. The jury is in a powerful method
because ultimately, it determines whether a person is guilty or innocent. In civil cases, the main
function of the jury is to find the facts having regard to the evidence, and assess damages. The number
of jurors used in a civil trial is less than that used in a criminal trial. Another important difference is
that the verdict does not have to be unanimous, meaning that a judge will accept a majority decision of
a civil jury.
Unanimity has long been considered as essential and fundamental part of jury trials. Unanimous

The Problem Of Bad Debts
INTRODUCTION
The accumulation of huge NPA in banks has assumed great importance. The depth of the problem of
bad debts was first realised only in early 1990s. The magnitude of NPAs in banks and financial
institution is over Rs. 150000 cr.
So gross NPA reflects the quality of the loans made by banks, net NPA shows the actual burden of
banks. Now it is increasingly evident that the major defaulters are the big borrowers coming from the
initiative to reduce NPAs in a time bound strategic approach.
Public sector banks figure prominently in the debate not only because they dominate the banking
industries, but also since they have much larger NPAs compared with the private sector banks. This
raises a concern in the industry and academia because it is generally felt that NPAs reduce the
profitability of a banks, weaken its financial health and erode its solvency.
For the recovery of NPAs a board framework has evolved for the management of NPA under which
several options are provided for debt recovery and restructuring. Banks and FIs have the freedom to
design and implement their own policies for recovery and write off incorporating compromise and
negotiate settlements.
DEFINITION
An asset, including a leased asset, becomes non performing when it ceases to generate income for the
bank.
A non performing asset (NPA) was defined as a credit facility in respect of which the interest and/ or
instalment of principal has remained past due for a specified period of time.

The Swimmer
The Swimmer
The Swimmer was originally a short story written by John Cheever. The story on the surface is about a
wealthy man named Ned Merrill who decides to swim home to his wife Lucinda and two daughters
using a string of swimming pools. However, when he arrives home he comes to an empty house.
Using an in depth analysis, it is revealed that his journey is actually his decline in status, and effects of
alcoholism. Ultimately it could be argued that the story shows the dangers of wealth and alcoholism.
Ned Merrill s wealth has stripped him of a purpose and as a result he finds thrills in distractions, such
as affairs, or he creates false purposes. The greatest false purpose he conjures is when he decides to

lemonade stand. After Ned drinks two cups, Kevin tells him it is going to cost him 20 cents. Ned
promises him he will repay him the next day. Based on Ned s current financial status that promise
knowingly will go unfulfilled. The scene in the empty pool specifically builds Ned s character. Ned is
stubbornly set on his goal to swim every pool, and his haste encounters with insignificant people
shows his disconnection. However, with Kevin he takes a brief moment to connect with the boy.
Kevin reveals to Ned his inability to swim well and in response Ned builds his confidence by
indulging in pretend swimming. This moment reveals Ned s humanity. The audience believes the
moment is fleeting because once they reach the end of the pool Ned reverted back to wanting to
complete his goal instead of staying there to play with boy. However, Ned s humanity swiftly returns
when it seems as though the boy intends to jump off the diving board and Ned prevents such actions.

Vernacular Architecture Identity Essay

How is identity shaped through our design, production and use of architecture?
Theme The idea of the vernacular architecture as identity
The search for a cogent Australian architectural idiom.
The idea of the vernacular is strong in Australian architecture and is often defined in terms of the city
and the bush .
Central Questions: What is vernacular Architecture? Has there ever been and Australian architecture?

Memmot (2007) explains how Indigenous building methods, based on semi permanent structures
utilized original styles, local materials and, like their culture. They were poetically wedded to the
distinct sense of place for which this isolated continent is renowned. Indigenous architecture is pure
vernacular (Memmot 2007). While this is respectfully acknowledged, this essay will examine the
period after European settlement, during which Australian architecture has sourced the bulk of
materials and styles internationally and has never been purely vernacular (Drew 2006). For example,
while corrugated iron is seen as Australian it was produced in the steel mills in England and heavily
used throughout Britain and the British Empire. Drew (2006) discusses how it is accepted that since
1788, Australian vernacular buildings have always contained a plethora of international influences
both stylistic and material and were never truly original or unique in the same manner of Indigenous
vernacular shelters. Consequently, the aim is to find architecture which possesses vernacular elements
that overshadow the universal, international elements. To substantiate the arguments and isolate a
period in Australia s history, two case studies from the Mid 20th century will be examined The Rose
Seidler House (figure 2), by Harry Seidler and the Curry House 2 (figure 3), by Bruce Rickard.

The Impact of Digital Technology on Today s Children
In a world dominated by technology, it is appropriate for adults to have concerns about the impact it is
having on children. While most of this concern does stem from the experiences of their own childhood
when there was less technology, more play time outside, and life was just simply much easier, the fact
of the matter is that the children today and the future generations to come are going to grow up in a
technological realm. Today, children as young as four years old, are regularly using digital technology
on multiple different platforms such as the Internet, mobile devices, and gaming consoles. A 2013
Nielsen Connected Devices report found that in households that have a tablet and/or computer and
with children under 12 years of age, 70% of the children used the tablet; 70% of those children used it
for entertainment purposes, and 57% used the tablet for educational purposes. The report, of course,
raises the obvious question of rather or not early exposure of digital technology can have negative
effects on child development especially regarding their brains. In truth, there is no easy answer
because like most things in life, there are both good and bad attributes to it and the exact same thing
can be applied in this situation. For instance, while technology can be used for positive educational
purposes, there are also serious psychological concerns.

Similarities Between Elizabethan And Modern Education
Elizabethan and Modern Education
The Elizabethan Era, the Golden Age of English history, ended with the death of Queen Elizabeth I,
but its approach to education lingered centuries beyond that. During the Elizabethan times, education
was completely dependent upon a person s social status and gender, as well as the whims of the sitting
monarch. Although that is not the case anymore, similarities can be drawn between Elizabethan and
modern education. In fact, Elizabethan education and modern education share more similarities than
differences.
The first similarity is that there were many different levels of education. Students learned how to read
and write in English and how to do sums, in what was known as a Petty School , the most elementary
level of education ( What Every Schoolboy Knows. ). These were not actually schools. A Petty School
was actually the house of an educated housewife who would teach children for a small price (
Elizabethan Era England Life. ). Along with learning how to read and write in English, they also
learned catechism and lessons on behavior ( Elizabethan Era England Life. ). From the ages 7 to 14,
children who were non noble went to Grammar Schools, which prepared them for university, where
courses were taught in Latin. Latin was considered the language of the educated throughout Europe,
so students were expected to become proficient in it ( What Every Schoolboy Knows. ).
Between the ages of 7 and 10, they were taught by Ushers, who taught them parts of speech, verbs,
sentence structure, and how to translate English to Latin ( Elizabethan Era Daily Life: Food,
Education, Marriage, Family, Fashion. ). During this time, they were taught with the Horn Book and
the Elizabethan Alphabet. The Horn Book was considered to be the most important tool used in the
Grammar Schools. It was a piece of parchment that was normally pasted onto a wooden board with a
handle, and covered with a plate of transparent horn, which made it both durable and inexpensive. The
horn book displayed the alphabet in both small and capital letters, and the Lord s Prayer in English.
The mark of the cross was also included, so the alphabet was known as Christcross row ( Elizabethan
Education. ).

I Am A Believer Of Growth Is Essential For Long Term Success
I am a believer in the idea that a mindset of growth is essential for long term success. Constantly
trying to become a stronger and better version of oneself, along with an attitude of continual learning
is a key element in becoming successful. It is this notion that describes my process through college,
and my decision to pursue a career in medicine. By the end of my freshman year, I had dabbled in
many fields, but was still unsure of the life I wished to pursue. I ve always had a passion and desire to
help others, and began to discover I had a talent in leading and motivating others. While growing up in
a tight knit community, many of my friends fell into the trap of crime and drugs. I was able to organize
various programs and retreats for these friends, and helped them overcome their obstacles, and escape
the addictions that afflicted them. I was able to see first hand the positive effects a group of motivated
individuals can accomplish when working together. This led me to seek out other institutions that had
a vision parallel to my passion for service.
My passion and zeal to find a purpose led me HUDA Clinic in early 2013, an institution that provides
free healthcare and medication to the impoverished community of Detroit. Within a few months, I was
promoted to Chief Volunteer Coordinator. This responsibility helped pave a path both academically
and (professionally??) for the remainder of my college career. As chief volunteer coordinator, I had a

Positive And Negative Effects On Colonial America
Julia DeVincenzo Between the sixteenth and mid eighteenth century, Tokuwaga Japan and the
colonization of America by Spain led the world in silver production. The increase in silver prompted
an extensive variety of consequences. Silver mining became extremely popular especially during
Ming China, where it was used as currency, in which all domestic taxes and trade fees were to be paid
in. Although silver served as a great way to facilitate trade, the increase in demand led to social
disputes and a decline in the economies of many countries. Based on the documents, the rapid incline
in demand for silver proved to have both positive and negative effects on colonial America, Japan,
China, and the world around them. Contrary to most Chinese thoughts, the production of silver hurt
the economy of Ming China. Document 3, for example, states that the scarcity of the silver coin is
what s damaging the harvests. Wang Xijue, a court official, believes there is too much silver being
used for taxes, that there is not enough left to care for the plantations. He Qiaoyuan, also a Ming court
official, describes how much profit the country could make if it opened up its doors to trade with the
Europeans (document 7). However, the unregulated flow of silver into Ming China ultimately hurt the
economy. With similar beliefs to that of Xijue, Ye Chunji, a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Safety Mindset
Growth Mindset in Safety
Introduction
Safety is an important function of our daily lives and requires the same attention we give other
functions and processes within our daily job routines. Over the years as we continue to do our jobs and
the same processes we can become less safe by using short cuts to make a process easier for ourselves.
Also, the equipment we use begins to age and breakdown and cause unsafe conditions. Safety
professionals use many different types of safety programs to combat safety related issues or problems
one may encounter on a job site. Employee involvement is the most important part of any safety
program. Without employee involvement safety programs are not as successful, because employees
are sometimes not aware of the process and steps in place to protect them.
Industries across the United States develop different ways to protect their employees. Resiliency is an

When I signed up for French, I naturally but incorrectly assumed that I would learn about all things
French. But my second language study started as many high school students did: it was the mid 80 s
and my high school teacher was using the audiolingual method. The class consisted of the arduous
task of memorizing vocabulary, conjugating verbs, and decoding simple sentences with no cultural
context whatsoever. While I didn t find French to be particularly difficult, I wasn t enthusiastic about
rote memorization. When I was given an opportunity to drop French in order to join a select choir, I
didn t think twice. My mid 1980 s high school didn t really push second language study, so I figured
that this was the end of my foray into language study. Perhaps it just wasn t for me...

  • 2. Government Control In The Government Of 1984 By George Orwell In the book 1984, George Orwell describes the life of a man named Winston who works for the Ever prevalent INGSOC. INGSOC is a society controlling government that is split into three parts. The inner party, the outer party, and the proles. INGSOC is omnipotent and all controlling of every aspect of people s lives. This dictatorial society is horrifying to the minds of americans who have nearly total freedom in their actions and thought. However, with recent changes in government policy on surveillance, war, education, and the increase of fear of outsiders, it begs the question. Is America becoming 1984? In the book 1984 by George Orwell, the citizens of Oceania are so fearful and hateful of the other countries being Eurasia and Eastasia, that they have a daily Two minutes hate which the government uses to enforce the hate of foreign people upon the population. Included in this government produced distaste, they have created a Hate Week . A whole week dedicated to hating and watching propaganda against the party s current enemy. While America does not have nearly as much propaganda and active government allocated hate for other peoples, American racism and distaste of foreign peoples, mainly those being of mexican, muslim, and middle eastern races, has grown. In america, few peoples face more prejudice and hate than muslim americans. So much hate crime and fear surrounds muslims that they have even developed a word for it, Islamophobia . Islamophobia may be spreading ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Generalized Anxiety Disorder ( Gad ) Generalized Anxiety Disorder (GAD) is one of the most diagnosed mental disorders today, and can often be closely linked to concurrent symptoms or disorders including physiological, behavioral, other anxiety disorders, depression and substance abuse. (Merino, Senra Ferreiro, 2016) (Cacioppo Fregberg, 2013, p. 688). GAD most notably produces symptoms of excessive worry and anxiety related to non specific risks, which often leads to functional decline both socially and professionally (Roberge et al., 2015). GAD reveals instances of links to biological origins such as heredity and biochemistry, as well as, ties to an individual s cognitive development and socioeconomic environment (Cacioppo Fregberg, 2013). GAD s potentially interwoven origin marks significant challenges for diagnosis and treatment. Patients often leave the opportunity for diagnosis of GAD to the primary caregiver (Roberge et al., 2015). Primary care professionals must be able to attribute physiological symptoms to psychological conditions in many of these cases to prevent missed or misdiagnosis, as well as correctly evaluate potential psychological disorders akin to GAD. The Roberge et al. (2015) research article indicates the need for increased efforts in preparing primary care professionals to properly screen and diagnose patients with GAD. Preferred treatment for GAD includes medication and cognitive behavioral therapy, but more extensive therapy may be called upon in some instances of recurrence or ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Delta Rice Mill Essay example Delta rice mill case study [Pick the date] identify problems in operations Delta rice mill case study identify problems in operations Looking at the operational system at Delta Rice Mill Operations, there are obviously some problems existing there. Firstly, they are having problem in their equipment of production. As it is mentioned in the case study, the Delta Factory was acquired in 1976, it is a long period of time and slowing down in capacity is an unavoidable thing. The old and unreliable equipment would lead to the breakdown in production frequently. Moreover, the old system would cost the company high in maintaining. Hence, the old and unreliable equipment lead to inability of meeting the demand, it ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Moreover, the arbitrary set of rules and corporate policy has been further modified at Delta Rice Mill due to old, unreliable equipment. For the next reason, the problem bases on worker s willing to work on or dedicate one line to each size. Actually, it may decrease the productivity in some cases. Last but not least, the Delta Rice Mill want to increase their sales and remain the product s quality as well as ensure to be on time for every shipments all time of year. For those mentioned reason above, if Delta Rice Mill wants to rise their performance in production and reduce the cost, they have to deal with those dilemmas as well. Solutions: In the first solution for up to date infrastructures, we found out that there are two ways to deal with. Replacing the production system is he first way. In this case, we just replace the parking line but not processing line. However, as a result it will rocket the cost in investment and it may need a longtime to get the money back. Thus it is just suitable for a long term solution planning. The other key for this issue, we should make a comparison between the total cost of the current production system with overtime work hours with the total cost of the regular work hours however Delta Rice Mill will tend to produce a same amount of production for every months with no overtime work hours. On the other hand, the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Edmund Spenser Research Paper Edmund Spenser was born into a relatively poor family in East Smithfield, London, England in 1552 (there remains a degree of ambiguity to the exact date of his birth). This information is acquired from sonnet lx. in the Amoretti where he speaks of having lived 41 years, as of 1595. Although he was related to an affluent and noble Midlands family of Spencer, his own immediate family was not particularly wealthy. There also remains some ambiguity to the specificities of Spenser s childhood, though it is known that he was entered as a poor boy in the Merchant Taylor s grammar school, where he studied primarily Latin, with specks of Hebrew, Greek, and music thrown in sporadically. Edmund Spenser began his illustrious writing career as early as 16, as there are poems of his found in a miscellany, by the name of Theatre for Worldlings, that are accredited to being ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This expansive knowledge of the traditional forms and themes of lyrical and narrative poetry offered sufficient foundations for the formulation of his own highly original compositions. Without the study of the Roman epic poet Virgil s Aeneid, the 15th century Ludovico Ariosto s Orlando furioso, and, later, Torquato Tasso s Gerusalemme liberate, Spenser would not of been able to create his heroic, or epic, poem The Faerie Queene. Without Virgil s Bucolics, and the later tradition of pastoral poetry in Italy and France, Spenser would not have came up with and written the The Shepheardes Calender. Lastly, without the Latin, Italian, and French examples of the highly traditional marriage ode and the sonnet and canzone forms of Petrarch and succeeding sonneteers, Spenser could not have written his most notable lyric, Epithalamion, and its accompanying sonnets, ... • 6. Putting Constitutional Protections in the Backseat for... A country born of laws, rights and citizenship with the idea of a free people to govern over themselves, was the original intent of the American experience. However, America did not inherit traditional bonds of a national identity, so it had to rely on a few cultural foundations that became critical in deciding who belonged in the American experience. The pillars seemed to be a common language of English, a religion based on a broad view of Christianity, and the notion of a traditional family. As more people were included politically, more people were excluded culturally if they did not conform to some version of those three expected characteristics. This weeks reading demonstrates how Constitutional guarantees take a backseat in the wake ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The abuse of power transcended national boarders as the U.S. government turned a blind eye to American troops engaged in the unleashed and unchecked torture of prisoners of war. The use of torture is not in the national interest, as it has been found that the intelligence gained through torture is unreliable. Like the Japanese after Pearl Harbor, America consistently presses or even oversteps its Constitutional boundaries in times of national security. The cultural foundations deeply ingrained in the American experience provide little relief towards an amicable concept of Rooted Cosmopolitanism. Southern California is an outlier, geographically dethatched with an aura of modernity. Rapidly advancing modernization and an influx of religious diversity emerged in tandem; the effect Christianity molded to secular exigencies shaping a pluralistic state. However, Southern California reflects a religious model independently formed, largely out of reach from the grip of ripened American values and democratic traditions prevailing in the eastern part of the country. The distasteful reality, in which Roof did not address, is what would happen if Southern California bred the emergence of a religious practice similar to that of polygamy in Utah? Society and the Courts have fiercely preserved traditional American values, and would without doubt precipitously intervene. Perhaps, religious pluralism flourished so well in Southern California because, as Roof cited, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. Genghis Khans Effect On The Management Of Conquered... Genghis Khans effect on the Management of conquered civilizations. The Mongol empire was one of the most prevalent, feared, and influential empires to ever gallop across this earth. They were revolutionaries of there time. There military tactics, horsemanship, and leadership system all helped maintain and profligate an immense powerhouse that reaped havoc on anyone standing in there path. However it was there governance and leadership after they had conquered these lands that was most surprising The Mongol people started out as many separated factions that were no more than a few hundred men. There were bitter rivalries and animosity between tribes and long power struggle for control of the Steppe. However it was not to stay this way ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Temujin s ability to unify these radically polar people was the jumping off point in the reign and legacy of the Mongol empire. His sheer capability and practices were then engrained into successors that was most impressive. The Mongolian Empire speedily conquered staggering amounts of land in only a finite amount of time, but their most imposing obstacle was finding a way to govern these foreign lands. Genghis Khan was the first to integrate the Mongols into these societies, and with their expert military skills, they overthrew surrounding nations and captured their lands. Genghis knew that he couldn t adopt an umbrella policy for vastly differing nations, so the Mongols who occupied each subjected nation reigned over the people and installed different governmental structures that suited particular societies. One of his monumental creations that defined ruling structure, was that of his Yasa. This was essentially a guide on the ethics and precedence s of the Mongols. It created stability within Mongol s that allowed them to focus on maintaining their grip on other colonies without infringing too much upon the culture. In Preparing for a Career Bok s main idea he engraves into the essay is the fact that vocational and liberal arts program should consolidate into one program to produce better, prepared, hybrid students. The first point Bok brings up in the vocational program is the fact that the students in vocational programs are focused on perfecting the competent skills needed in their career. This gives the students in the vocational program an advantage since they will graduate with the skills needed to hit the ground running and have a better chance than liberal arts students in acquiring a job. Bok mentions a downfall about vocational programs in which vocational focuses so much on the skills students don t learn the essential traditional skills of college. Bok then continues on to give the liberal arts side of his perspective, in which he states, The most important step that Arts and Sciences faculties can take is simply to do a better job of achieving the traditional goals of liberal education (Derek Bok, 42). Bok believes the advantage of liberal arts is the key fact that students learn the abilities vocational students don t such as communication, critical thinking, problem solving, self discipline, creativity, and human relation skills. The two disadvantages Bok mentions is that liberal arts students will have a more difficult time acquiring a job during the first ten years of work compared to vocational students and liberal arts professors disregard the need to teach skills that will be learned on the job. After a minor wobble of the director stand, a few adjustments and giggles, Symphony No.1 in D major began. The first movement started off with an eerie introduction, with the first two notes morphing into a birdcall as well as main theme but a very magical sound. It made for a very soothing, romantic time. Throughout the piece I felt as if it told a story as most music does, what I came to believe it was a love story. The Allegro begins in the cello with the second Wayfarer song, Ging heut morgen Ubers Feld, (I Walked this Morning over the Field). With a light and happy tone in the beginning as if two lovers had just met, this was the main theme of this movement. Suddenly there was a deep, heavy part maybe one of despair in paradise but that only lasted for a short period as it came to a victorious ending of happily ever after. (Kahn) The second movement Scherzo, gave more of an elegant, royal ball sound. Where the women dress in gowns and the men in tuxedos, while drinking wine and dancing the night away. This movement has the rhythm of the Landler, an Australian folk dance. It conforms to the classic minuet and trio form though Mahler takes the first section beyond the standard repeat structure. Now it is increasingly evident that the major defaulters are the big borrowers coming from the initiative to reduce NPAs in a time bound strategic approach. Public sector banks figure prominently in the debate not only because they dominate the banking industries, but also since they have much larger NPAs compared with the private sector banks. Theme The idea of the vernacular architecture as identity The search for a cogent Australian architectural idiom. Memmot (2007) explains how Indigenous building methods, based on semi permanent structures utilized original styles, local materials and, like their culture. They were poetically wedded to the distinct sense of place for which this isolated continent is renowned. Indigenous architecture is pure vernacular (Memmot 2007). While this is respectfully acknowledged, this essay will examine the period after European settlement, during which Australian architecture has sourced the bulk of materials and styles internationally and has never been purely vernacular (Drew 2006). For example, while corrugated iron is seen as Australian it was produced in the steel mills in England and heavily used throughout Britain and the British Empire. Drew (2006) discusses how it is accepted that since 1788, Australian vernacular buildings have always contained a plethora of international influences both stylistic and material and were never truly original or unique in the same manner of Indigenous vernacular shelters. Consequently, the aim is to find architecture which possesses vernacular elements that overshadow the universal, international elements. To substantiate the arguments and isolate a period in Australia s history, two case studies from the Mid 20th century will be examined The Rose Seidler House (figure 2), by Harry Seidler and the Curry House 2 (figure 3), by Bruce Rickard. • 29. Impact Of Digital Technology On Children Lunar Singsomphone English 105 014 Fall 2017 The Impact of Digital Technology on Today s Children In a world dominated by technology, it is appropriate for adults to have concerns about the impact it is having on children. While most of this concern does stem from the experiences of their own childhood when there was less technology, more play time outside, and life was just simply much easier, the fact of the matter is that the children today and the future generations to come are going to grow up in a technological realm. Today, children as young as four years old, are regularly using digital technology on multiple different platforms such as the Internet, mobile devices, and gaming consoles. A 2013 Nielsen Connected Devices report found that in households that have a tablet and/or computer and with children under 12 years of age, 70% of the children used the tablet; 70% of those children used it for entertainment purposes, and 57% used the tablet for educational purposes. The report, of course, raises the obvious question of rather or not early exposure of digital technology can have negative effects on child development especially regarding their brains. In truth, there is no easy answer because like most things in life, there are both good and bad attributes to it and the exact same thing can be applied in this situation. For instance, while technology can be used for positive educational purposes, there are also serious psychological concerns. The digital technology ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 30. Similarities Between Elizabethan And Modern Education Elizabethan and Modern Education The Elizabethan Era, the Golden Age of English history, ended with the death of Queen Elizabeth I, but its approach to education lingered centuries beyond that. During the Elizabethan times, education was completely dependent upon a person s social status and gender, as well as the whims of the sitting monarch. Although that is not the case anymore, similarities can be drawn between Elizabethan and modern education. In fact, Elizabethan education and modern education share more similarities than differences. The first similarity is that there were many different levels of education. Students learned how to read and write in English and how to do sums, in what was known as a Petty School , the most elementary level of education ( What Every Schoolboy Knows. ). These were not actually schools. A Petty School was actually the house of an educated housewife who would teach children for a small price ( Elizabethan Era England Life. ). Along with learning how to read and write in English, they also learned catechism and lessons on behavior ( Elizabethan Era England Life. ). From the ages 7 to 14, children who were non noble went to Grammar Schools, which prepared them for university, where courses were taught in Latin. Latin was considered the language of the educated throughout Europe, so students were expected to become proficient in it ( What Every Schoolboy Knows. ). Between the ages of 7 and 10, they were taught by Ushers, who taught them parts of speech, verbs, sentence structure, and how to translate English to Latin ( Elizabethan Era Daily Life: Food, Education, Marriage, Family, Fashion. ). During this time, they were taught with the Horn Book and the Elizabethan Alphabet. The Horn Book was considered to be the most important tool used in the Grammar Schools. It was a piece of parchment that was normally pasted onto a wooden board with a handle, and covered with a plate of transparent horn, which made it both durable and inexpensive. The horn book displayed the alphabet in both small and capital letters, and the Lord s Prayer in English. The mark of the cross was also included, so the alphabet was known as Christcross row ( Elizabethan Education. ). The ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 32. I Am A Believer Of Growth Is Essential For Long Term Success I am a believer in the idea that a mindset of growth is essential for long term success. Constantly trying to become a stronger and better version of oneself, along with an attitude of continual learning is a key element in becoming successful. It is this notion that describes my process through college, and my decision to pursue a career in medicine. By the end of my freshman year, I had dabbled in many fields, but was still unsure of the life I wished to pursue. I ve always had a passion and desire to help others, and began to discover I had a talent in leading and motivating others. While growing up in a tight knit community, many of my friends fell into the trap of crime and drugs. I was able to organize various programs and retreats for these friends, and helped them overcome their obstacles, and escape the addictions that afflicted them. I was able to see first hand the positive effects a group of motivated individuals can accomplish when working together. This led me to seek out other institutions that had a vision parallel to my passion for service. My passion and zeal to find a purpose led me HUDA Clinic in early 2013, an institution that provides free healthcare and medication to the impoverished community of Detroit. Within a few months, I was promoted to Chief Volunteer Coordinator. This responsibility helped pave a path both academically and (professionally??) for the remainder of my college career. • 33. Positive And Negative Effects On Colonial America Julia DeVincenzo Between the sixteenth and mid eighteenth century, Tokuwaga Japan and the colonization of America by Spain led the world in silver production. The increase in silver prompted an extensive variety of consequences. Silver mining became extremely popular especially during Ming China, where it was used as currency, in which all domestic taxes and trade fees were to be paid in. Although silver served as a great way to facilitate trade, the increase in demand led to social disputes and a decline in the economies of many countries. Based on the documents, the rapid incline in demand for silver proved to have both positive and negative effects on colonial America, Japan, China, and the world around them. Contrary to most Chinese thoughts, the production of silver hurt the economy of Ming China. Document 3, for example, states that the scarcity of the silver coin is what s damaging the harvests. Wang Xijue, a court official, believes there is too much silver being used for taxes, that there is not enough left to care for the plantations. He Qiaoyuan, also a Ming court official, describes how much profit the country could make if it opened up its doors to trade with the Europeans (document 7). However, the unregulated flow of silver into Ming China ultimately hurt the economy. With similar beliefs to that of Xijue, Ye Chunji, a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 35. Safety Mindset Growth Mindset in Safety Introduction Safety is an important function of our daily lives and requires the same attention we give other functions and processes within our daily job routines. Over the years as we continue to do our jobs and the same processes we can become less safe by using short cuts to make a process easier for ourselves. Also, the equipment we use begins to age and breakdown and cause unsafe conditions. Safety professionals use many different types of safety programs to combat safety related issues or problems one may encounter on a job site. Employee involvement is the most important part of any safety program. Without employee involvement safety programs are not as successful, because employees are sometimes not aware of the process and steps in place to protect them. For the past several years, my Spanish department has been working toward rewriting our curriculum to include comprehensible input and storytelling about complex issues like immigration, social injustice and identity. When I signed up for French, I naturally but incorrectly assumed that I would learn about all things French. But my second language study started as many high school students did: it was the mid 80 s and my high school teacher was using the audiolingual method. The class consisted of the arduous task of memorizing vocabulary, conjugating verbs, and decoding simple sentences with no cultural context whatsoever. While I didn t find French to be particularly difficult, I wasn t enthusiastic about rote memorization. When I was given an opportunity to drop French in order to join a select choir, I didn t think twice. My mid 1980 s high school didn t really push second language study, so I figured that this was the end of my foray into language study. Perhaps it just wasn t for me... However, by the end of my freshman year, I had a new interest in language and culture. This interest was not fueled by academic curiosity but rather by the simple desire to connect and understand others. I had begun dating a Mexican American boy and his family intrigued me.
