Individualism In The Play Sure Thing
Throughout time each and every single individual of the human kind have been taught the art of
individualism. Selling the idea of independence and self sufficiency, civilization after civilization have
manipulated the life of its members setting labels that serve as the stigma of the community and
creating social taboos to oppress individuals as components of the greater scheme that is society. The
believe of individualism, the big banner that says it is fine to be different have become the current
most followed idea, the question is whether or not such individualism exist or it is nothing more than a
created fantasy use to shape the existence of a race. For instance, the civilize system we live in today,

Both plays give the reader a unique vision of the location they are taking place. The play Trifles
illustrates its settings in a small time kind of environment; the characters point out some aspects of
farmers lifestyle. For instance, Mrs. Hale mentions, There s a great deal of work to be done on a farm.
Farmers wives have their hands full (Glaspell, 604). Suggesting the busyness of days at this scenario,
and there was no time to get involved in their neighbors businesses. Gives the impression that small
town people at the time were no really the social type, everyone was busy doing their work. Specially
women that had to take care the house chores, they did not have time to go out have coffee with their
friends and gossip about their entertained lives. While in Sure Thing , the readers see more of city
lifestyle. Two stranger that meet at a Café, start talking and find out they been going to the same Café
for a while now and never ran into each other before; as Bill says, City life. We probably pass each
other in the street every day. Right in front of this place, probably (Ives, 2). Furthermore, the fact that
Betty is in the Café reading a book by herself on a Friday night shows an independent woman, free to
do as she pleased. Nevertheless, Bill founds it a bit strange Sort of a sad occupation for a Friday night,

Growth Attenuation Therapy Ethical Issues
In 2006, Growth Attenuation Therapy, the administering of high doses of estrogen to severely disabled
children in order to stunt their growth, was introduced. It is of ethical concern because neither the
medical community nor the parents, know all of the implications and ramifications and yet, this
treatment continues to be in practice. The issue resurfaced last summer when a study by the Pediatric
Endocrine Society resulted in an article published March 22nd 2016 in the New York Times, which
indicated that a noteworthy population was receiving this treatment. The ethical issue lies in the
doctors and parents not necessarily being informed voters . For example, one of the doctors, listed as
treating a patient, had never before actually administered ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It is imperative that there be an open discussion overtly identifying the issues and discussing them
without prejudice (Johnson 2012 p. 265) Under specific circumstances, families may have the right to
use medical advances to improve their overall quality of life however, this slippery slope must be
controlled by the leaders in the medical community. Doctors and committee members need to be
aware of both sides of each issue and combine the priorities they have as medical professionals, with
the related socio political priorities. Additionally, doctors should have experience administering and
monitoring such treatment prior to accepting patients for Growth Attenuation Treatment. FDA
regulations and guidelines, for use of estrogen, would need to be established and an oversight
committee would be formed to ensure the process remains ethically sound. In order to act as an
exemplary follower, you ll need to practice exercising, independent, critical thought and by becoming
actively engaged in organizational affairs. (Johnson, 2012 p. 293) Furthermore, the medical
professionals would need to publicly declare that caution should be exercised regarding the treatment
s use, due to a lack of existing data. This would alert the public to the importance of their being
educated consumers and it might help to better align the expectations of all involved, with the range of
possible outcomes. It is premature to determine the ethical nature of Growth Attenuation Treatment.

Circa Survive History
Over the past ten years, Circa Survive has held the torch for the post hardcore realm. They ve toured
with Thrice, Coheed and Cambria, Saves the Day, Dredg, Minus the Bear, and The Used, to name a
few. They ve outlasted bands in their realm, such as Thursday, The Receiving End of Sirens, Fear
Before (the March of Flames), Dear and the Headlights, and My Chemical Romance. And they ve
even given voice to lesser known artists with opening acts like Good Old War, Foxy Shazam, Touché
Amoré, Balance and Composure, Now, Now, O Brother, and Portugal. The Man. Circa Survive is also
frontman Anthony Green s longest lasting group. For a man that appears to be everywhere, from The
Sound of Animals Fighting, to Zolof the Rock Roll Destroyer, to his solo projects, and to wherever
Saosin is at these days, it s the one project of his that has remained stable. For all five founding
members of Circa Survive to remain in the band for an entire decade is quite an admirable task that
truly shows their unity and dedication to making music together. It s a feat that very few bands can say

A Description of Christian Teachings about the Roles of Men and Women
The family is our basic social unit. It is the smallest and most common group in our society. It is found
in every country and in every age throughout history. Sociologists often distinguish between two types
of family.
The first is the nuclear family which is where husband and wife live alone with their children.
The second is the extended family, which consists of several generations possibly living in the same
house and having relatives living in the neighbourhood.
Christians believe that family is of great importance.
In Genesis it says: Living as a family prevents loneliness.

I mentioned earlier that caring for the needs of family members is very important. This includes
children and looking after their spiritual and emotional needs as well as their physical needs. The roles
of men and women within families should be shared. The need for discipline should be shared to and
both parents should set codes of practice and examples. Parents need to enable their children to be
responsible and expose them to different situations. Children should be able to respect their parents
and their decisions: Exodus 20:12, Respect your father and mother, so that you may live along time in
the land I am giving you.
If parents create a stable background to bring a child into, then a sense of security and self worth is
also created.
There are three elements in family life and these are freedom, discipline and love.
Parents need to be consistent in terms of freedom and discipline and in doing so parents need to say
what they mean and mean what they say, Proverbs 23:22, Listen to your father; without him you
would not exist. When your mother is old, show her your appreciation.
In terms of discipline parents should always be specific when the reprimand their children. This is
important because it will enable the children to fully understand why they should not do a specific
thing. Above all families should show loyalty,

Horrors Of War In Wilfred Owen s Dulce Et Decorum Est
A person cannot truly comprehend a situation if they have never experienced it first hand. Writers,
however, can use their words to help paint a picture of said situations for those that wish to further
understand them. One example of such, is Wilfred Owen s Dulce et Decorum Est. Owen wrote this
poem to inform the public of the horrors of battle, specifically in World War I. He desperately tried to
warn civilians of the truths of combat and why it doesn t always feel honorable to die for your country.
When analyzed further, Owen is also warning his fellow citizens not to believe everything the
government tells them. In the first stanza, Owen describes a regiment marching through sludge,
something not unusual for soldiers at the time. In the second stanza, however, he introduces a new
threat, mustard gas. The speaker exclaims: Gas! GAS! Quick, boys! (Owen L9). As most of the
soldiers are putting on their gas masks, one fails to do so. The speaker is left watching the man
struggle: flound ring like a man in fire or lime...guttering, choking, drowning. (Owen L12 16). After
watching his fellow soldier succumb to the hellish effects of the gas, the speaker could not erase the
images from his memory. In the last stanza, he chastised the people at home who romanticize war and
challenged them to think about how admirable it is to watch a man die: the white eyes writhing in his
face, His hanging face, like a devil s sick of sin (Owen L19 20). Nationalism plays a huge role

According to the First Amendment of the U.S. Constitution, one of the basic principles our country is

A second document that perfectly personifies the achieving of equality amongst individuals, is from
Malcolm X s The Ballot or the Bullet. Malcolm X, like many great orators, uses a number of literary
techniques in his speech to persuade the audience of his argument. One example of how Malcolm does
this, is seen as he states No, I m not an American. I m one of the 22 million black people who are the
victims of Americanism. One of the 22 million black people who are the victims of democracy,
nothing but disguised hypocrisy. Immediately following this, again states So, I m not standing here
speaking to you as an American, or a patriot, or a flag saluter, or a flag waver no, not I. I m speaking
as a victim of this American system. And I see America through the eyes of the victim. I don t see any
American dream; I see an American nightmare (Breitman 26). As can be seen, Malcolm uses a more
sympathetic approach to gaining support, or specifically speaking, an emotional appeal. By using his
personal reference, like the declaration, he become one with the audience in a peer to peer
relationship. This intern

computer generated characters, or actors portraying happy and satisfied patients. The FDA requires
prescription drug makers to provide risk information in any promotion that qualifies as a product

Determine who regulates compounding pharmacies under the current regulatory scheme, what the
Food and Drug Administration (FDA) could / should have done in this scenario, and whether the FDA
should be granted more power over compounding pharmacies
The FDA and Compounding pharmacies
Who regulates compounding pharmacies under the current regulatory scheme?
The first element that we must address is what is compounding. Compounding is a practice in which a
licensed pharmacist, a licensed physician, or, in the case of an outsourcing facility, a person under the
supervision of a licensed pharmacist, combines, mixes, or alters ingredients of a drug to create a
medication tailored to the needs of an individual patient. Compounded drugs are not FDA approved.
This means that FDA does not verify the safety, or effectiveness of compounded drugs. Consumers
and health professionals rely on the drug approval process to ensure that drugs are safe and effective
and made in accordance with Federal quality standards. (The Food and Drug Administration) What

Moreover, Loffreda mentions that the media is broadcasting an inaccurate appearance of Laramie and
overdraws the crime of Matt Shepard. She considers the media and many people as religious or
political leaders who are now talking about the Matt Shepard case as fake hypocrites. Loffreda
expresses her negative impression towards the people who show up to the protests after the incident,
states that there was a tremendous outpouring of support the vigils, the parade and a lot of people not
all of them, not even a substantial portion, but some of the people if they had known that Matt was gay

The human race is known for the anger and violence that each individual is capable of releasing. A

there have been certain people who have taken their violent urges and released them on a grander

romantic comedies with some elements of action. Torakku Yaro, with the first directing and the second

Sugawara plays Momojiro Hoshi, a truck driver who drives around Japan, along with his colleague
Kinzo Matsushita. All ten of the films follow a similar formula. Momojiro falls in love with a woman,
but ends up having to help her relationship with another man, while the ending always features a truck

Zatoichi (27 films, 1962 2003)
This particular title became globally known to the public through Takeshi Kitano s 2003 movie, The
Blind Swordsman: Zatoichi . However, that was just the tip of the iceberg. Before Kitano s movie,
there have been 26 more.
Let us take things from the beginning though. Our hero s first appearance was in a small story by Kan
Shimozawa, titled Zatoichi, although the concept, as a whole, was based on a secondary character of
this story, a blind gambler. He could guess what the dice would bring almost every time. According to
the Library of Congress, the story was included in a book titled Futokoro Techo, which was first
published in Japan by Chuo Koronsha in 1961.
The idea to write a Zatoichi movie came from Shintaro Katsu, who came to be the man behind the
hero, since he was the leading actor in all of the initial 26 movies (and director in the last) and also in
the TV series. The production company that took on the project was Daiei Studios.
The films were set during the Tokugawa era, where, except for some samurai that were under
government service, the rest of the samurai were forbidden to carry any weapon. It was the reason
Zatoichi carries his sword disguised as a cane, a rather popular weapon at that time, named

Write about the ways in which Steinbeck presents either Crooks or Curley s wife. To what extent does
he create sympathy for either of these characters? Of Mice and Men is set in 1930 s America in the

the ideas of equality, life, liberty and happiness. Steinbeck uses Crooks, and to some extent Curley s
wife to challenge the perception of equality and sometimes the language used is, by modern standards,
racist and misogynistic. There is an irony in the fact that the people judging Crooks are less intelligent

When Lennie first enters, Crooks is at first defensive as he is not used to visitors invading his personal

and Crooks reveals a slightly sadistic streak. He metaphorically, dances all over the slow witted

George, he is all alone, he enjoys tormenting Lennie Crooks face lighted with pleasure in his torture.
(Steinbeck, 1937, p75). Perhaps this was one of the few opportunities he had to sharpen his mind, and
he seized it. However, he was quick enough to realise the danger when Lennie was upset and backed
down immediately. This was undoubtedly self preservation, as Lennie was a big man whom had
recently mangled Curley s hand, but he may have realised he had gone too far and wanted to rectify
the situation. Steinbeck uses Crooks conversation with Lennie as a means for Crooks to vocalise his
position. Lennie asks why he is not welcome in the bunk room and Crooks is aware of the fact he has

What Is Active Assisted Range Of Motion
Active Assisted Range of Motion is utilized under certain conditions. It is most often used when a
client has a weakness due to pathology or injury. The therapist would help assist the client as the client
actively moves the joint through a pain free range of motion, indicating pain when it arises. The use of
light pressure touch over the joint capsule can add palpation of tissue for analysis during active
assisted ROM.
Active ROM testing is conducted first or Active Assisted ROM testing, when called for, followed by
passive ROM testing. Passive testing allows the therapist to ascertain any adhesions or excessive
mobility within the joint s range. During this passive motion the individual being tested should remain

A hard or bone to bone end feel, occurring when the therapist would not expect to feel such hard
resistance, can indicate changes in the osseous tissue, joint capsule or misalignment after a fracture.
On the other end of the spectrum, an unrestricted end feel yielding a high level of pain, may indicate
bursitis and inflammation of the joint capsule.
A very common experience among manual therapists, is a bouncy end feel, which may include the
sensation of a contractile spasm. This is a sudden and the hard cessation of movement, including pain,
followed closely by a bouncy sensation that may include spasms in specific muscles involved with the
range of motion. This type of end feel may indicate a responsive muscle guarding intended to prevent
further injury.
A restricted, yet springy end feel near the end of range of motion of a joint, with or without pain, can
indicate changes to inert tissues. Such as, cartilage or the meniscus of the tibiofemoral joint. Where
the individual would not be able to fully extend the joint.
A soft, yet soggy end feel can indicate edema within the joint or joint capsule. This soggy feel may
indicate an acute ligament injury, usually accompanied by moderate to severe pain. A sprain, for
example, of an ankle may also include a strain to one or more muscle tendons.
In conclusion, there are a few ROM testing patterns that occur

Samuel Clemens Writing Style Analysis
We learned about a lot of authors this past semester. Ranging from all genres and from all centuries,
but there were some that stood out to me in a positive and a negative light. One thing I noticed in all of
the different authors was the mood that they wrote in. Each one had their own signature on how they
liked to write. For instance my least favorite author of the bunch Edgar Allen Poe was very dark and
mythical in his writing. That s the first thing that comes to my mind when I hear his name, that and his
mustache. That s one of the reasons Edgar is my least favorite. Mark Twain, or Samuel Clemens was
my favorite out of the bunch and was the complete opposite to Edgar. Its seems easy to find the
differences of the two and a lot harder ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
To start, and to touch on it again, they have extremely different writing styles. Mark Twain is very
light and humorous while edgar is dark and gloomy. This is evident in virtually every one of their
pieces. In Huckleberry he constantly has jokes throughout the story. Nothing like edgar which I feel
like he doesn t know what a joke is. In the short story Tell Tale Heart, the narrator stabs the old man
and he remarked about how he could feel the heart suffering and the sheer pain he had. He connected
that to when he had his family die he could almost feel their pain they were going through. He said he
had no remorse for the act. When I read that it startled me on how dark Edgar makes his stories. This
is one of the main reasons I dislike Edgar. I don t enjoy reading a story on fictional death and
darkness. I d rather read a more adventurous story coming from twain.Another smaller difference they
have that is evident in their writing is the point of view they write from. Edgar is famous for being one
of the few authors to write in first person. It sets his works apart because of the detail he can get into
with his dark stories, which is completely different to Twain. In Huckleberry Finn the point of view is
third person omniscient. The difference between the two makes for a completely different theme of the
story. Edgar can go for a more personal theme whilst Twain has more of a life lesson for a society.
Lastly, Edgar does a great job on almost structuring his writing and making everything seem complex
and make my mind wander as I read. I find this to be a strength of his but also a weakness. It s hard to
follow and makes me second guess myself as what the actual reason is behind the story. This is
another bonus to Twain, he makes the story one directional with some hidden meaning but, it makes

Southern Speech In Tennessee Williams The Glass Menagerie
Williams s Southern origin is essential to the poetic qualities of his language, as many critics have
pointed out. Williams is particularly noted for his long line, which achieves the most surprising effects
through a repetition in the fashion of Gertrude Stein (Migid, 1964, p.282), by using archaic words,
introducing unexpected literary bookish words and ironically elegant phrase turns, which brings about
a stylized representation of the Southern diction, which is more conscious, more vague, but also much
more imaginative than the Northern speech. Being a Southern writer, Tennessee Williams was
accustomed to and in full harmony with the natural rhythm and melody of Southern speech, which is
heard particularly in the voices of women, as he himself pointed out. Stark Young (1945, p.505), a
Southern critic, heard in The Glass Menagerie behind the Southern speech in the mother s part... the
echo of great literature, or at least respect for it. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Amanda in The Glass Menagerie is too wordy, she never stops talking; Vee s dialogue in Orpheus
Descending that symbolizes her sexual frustration is breathtaking; whereas Alma s obsession with the
spiritual in the first part of Summer and Smoke is reflected in her ethereal speech about the Gulf
Wind. Even the most illiterate characters created by Williams are as poetic in their speech as the most
educated and cultivated ones. Thus, Stanley Kowalski, the brutish character in A Streetcar Named
Desire has his unique rhythms, characterized by repetitions and inflections; Serafina in The Rose
Tattoo manages to be very eloquent by using monosyllabic words only; Val in Orpheus Descending,
talking about a little bird, gives a speech which at the same time is both lyric, heightened and being in
line with his character, simple but accompanied by some kind of a strange

Do you like it Paris? Caitlin held the Gucci dress up for her to see. Oh my God! Paris squealed. She
admired the beauty in front of her. The Gucci dress that is. It was one of a kind. It was a stretch jersey
with an open back. Her little black dress. When she tried it on, it was form fitting but it looks sexy on
her. It also shows a lot of cleavage. She admired her 5 3 frame in the seven foot mirror. She smiles at
herself, noting the light shining its way back through her eyes. Girl, you are wearing that dress. Caitlin

Advantages And Disadvantages Of Ultrasound
Ever since the beginning of medicine, diagnostic procedures were mainly invasive, meaning that the
patient was cut open, resulting in an excruciating amount of pain for the diagnosis of some simple
conditions, such as pneumothorax and appendicitis. This practice was usual for centuries up until the
early 20th century where the use of waves, electromagnetic or not, in medicine began.
One type of the waves used was the ultrasound wave. The ultrasound waves, are sound waves with a
frequency higher than that of the audible human hearing range (Rouse, What Is Ultrasound?
Definition from WhatIs.com ). The idea of first applying the ultrasound for medical diagnostic
purposes accord simultaneously in more than one country in the world, however the best documented
one was in 1957 in Glasgow, Scotland by the Scottish physician Professor Ian Donald ( The

Weighing both the positives and the negatives of the ultrasound all together, it has still made a major

It portrays Christ as judging the world by fire, which is similar to 1 Corinthians 3:13, each one s work

test what sort of work each one has done. Also, while looking closely at Christ s face, I realized that
his right eyebrow is more arched and peaceful, while the one on the left is angled downward and
severe. This technique of showing the Justice and Mercy of God on the face of Christ is commonly
used in the Eastern Churches. In addition, this technique correlates with a verse in the Old Testament
which says, On the Day of Judgement there will be mercy seen by those who have shown mercy and
severe justice to those who have been severe. Furthermore, it is significant that Christ is portrayed as

History And Safety Regulations Of Ancient Egyptian Women
Menstruation is a natural and necessary process that has been occurring since human beings can
remember. Because of this necessary process, forms of sanitary protection have been concocted to
meet the needs of women to care for themselves during their menstrual bleeding period. There have
been numerous approaches used by women from all over the world and over the years. Of the
numerous materials, used to collect and dispose of menstrual waste, two have remained most popular,
the pad and the tampon. While many might use, and be familiar with their use in their menstrual
hygiene, not much is known about what is put in or on them and the regulations surrounding them.
This paper hopes to shed a light on the history and safety regulations surrounding the popular
menstrual hygiene products pads and tampons. This papers hopes to answer whether these products
are safe.
Some of the earliest records we have concerning menstrual hygiene solutions are those of ancient
Egyptian women. Egyptian records, that date back to the 15th century B.C., reveal that women, often
wealthy, used internal plugs made from soft papyrus or wool. Poorer women, who might not have
been able to afford soft papyrus or wool were recorded to have used softened aquatic grasses (Farage
101). Their Greek counterparts, as written by Hippocrates, a famous ancient Greek physician, were
said to have created internal plugs as well from lint wrapped around a small piece of wood. The

Growing brain
The brain grows at a faster rate than any other part of the body. By age 5, child s brain weighs 90% of
average adult brain weight, whereas total body weight is merely 30%.
One reason is due to increase in the number of interconnections among cells. These interconnects
allow for more complex communication between neurons, permit rapid growth of cognitive skills.
Amount of myelin (protective insulation that surrounds parts of the neurons) increases, which speeds
the transmission of electrical impulses along brain cells but also adds weight to the brain.

Silicon Valley did not start with that name and in fact it only started when eight men built a company,

What A Star That A Jerk
Introduction
The ability to identify and solve a workplace problem is an integral managing ability. Cliffe et al. s
article, What a Star What a Jerk, (2001) focuses on a manager in a new position who is having
problems with an aggressive, but talented, employee. Though the difficult worker in the article is a
subordinate, I view the manager, Jane, as the cause of most issues. Jane demonstrates that she is not
manager material by running to her old co worker with every problem, gossiping about her
subordinates, complaining about basic managerial duties, and handling insubordination poorly.
Through her behavior as a manager, Jane reminds me of Susan , a manager whom I recently had to
suffer through working under. Although my situation is not exactly like that in the article, I understand
how it feels to work for someone who acts inappropriately, causes conflict in the workplace, and lacks
crucial leadership skills.
Unifying With A New Team
Jane s biggest mistake in her new position is keeping herself connected to her old position through
communication with Rick, which ultimately disables her from fully merging into her new position.
Similarly, after Susan transferred to our store, she was constantly on the phone with a manager from
the store from which she transferred, sometimes ignoring incoming phone calls from customers and
talking poorly of employees on phones by the front door where she could be heard. Her resistance to
leaving her comfort zone made her seem withdrawn

Two Interrogation Cases Watched in Class

Tuttle. Mr. Tuttle was being charged with attempted unlawful sexual conduct with a minor. He was

Joshua was the focus of a sting operation and has been featured on the television program To Catch a

away from the true history of the game they play. Controversy still today runs around the sport today
about fines, punishments and record breaking. The past two decades of Major League Baseball have

took the right direction in the situation making an example of this group of players and especially
Rodriguez (Quinn, Fish, and Gomez). This no tolerance policy could hopefully put a stop to the use of
steroid in this great sport and get the game back to its original form.
One of the most controversial subjects in Major League Baseball is that of hall of fame voting. Players
who have tested positive should not be eligible for the hall of fame ballot. This is a great honor for
players who are truly great and play the game the right way. The hall of fame has no room for players
who try to gain unfair advantages through performance enhancing drugs. One of the greatest players
of all time, Pete Rose, was denied from the Baseball Hall of Fame do betting on his games. This
shows how seriously the voters take being inducted. Players who have tested positive for steroids
should be banned from the hall of fame, which is what Major League Baseball is moving toward.
Another issue is players who have broken records and tested positive for steroids during the period
they broke the record. Although increased speed and arm strength have also been linked to the use of
steroids, home run statistics have glaringly

Miss Emily wanted Homer Barron all for herself. It was often seen that Barron lacked affection

contextual clues reveal that maybe Miss Emily used the arsenic on Homer Barron. To hide herself

Analysis Of The Gilded Age

political, and economic history, weaving them together into a cohesive narrative. Critics mention her
lack of footnotes (but are quick to point out that her extensive for further reading sections help to

  • 8. Horrors Of War In Wilfred Owen s Dulce Et Decorum Est A person cannot truly comprehend a situation if they have never experienced it first hand. Writers, however, can use their words to help paint a picture of said situations for those that wish to further understand them. One example of such, is Wilfred Owen s Dulce et Decorum Est. Owen wrote this poem to inform the public of the horrors of battle, specifically in World War I. He desperately tried to warn civilians of the truths of combat and why it doesn t always feel honorable to die for your country. When analyzed further, Owen is also warning his fellow citizens not to believe everything the government tells them. In the first stanza, Owen describes a regiment marching through sludge, something not unusual for soldiers at the time. In the second stanza, however, he introduces a new threat, mustard gas. The speaker exclaims: Gas! GAS! Quick, boys! (Owen L9). As most of the soldiers are putting on their gas masks, one fails to do so. The speaker is left watching the man struggle: flound ring like a man in fire or lime...guttering, choking, drowning. (Owen L12 16). After watching his fellow soldier succumb to the hellish effects of the gas, the speaker could not erase the images from his memory. In the last stanza, he chastised the people at home who romanticize war and challenged them to think about how admirable it is to watch a man die: the white eyes writhing in his face, His hanging face, like a devil s sick of sin (Owen L19 20). Ranging from all genres and from all centuries, but there were some that stood out to me in a positive and a negative light. One thing I noticed in all of the different authors was the mood that they wrote in. Each one had their own signature on how they liked to write. For instance my least favorite author of the bunch Edgar Allen Poe was very dark and mythical in his writing. That s the first thing that comes to my mind when I hear his name, that and his mustache. That s one of the reasons Edgar is my least favorite. Mark Twain, or Samuel Clemens was my favorite out of the bunch and was the complete opposite to Edgar. Mark Twain is very light and humorous while edgar is dark and gloomy. This is evident in virtually every one of their pieces. In Huckleberry he constantly has jokes throughout the story. Nothing like edgar which I feel like he doesn t know what a joke is. In the short story Tell Tale Heart, the narrator stabs the old man and he remarked about how he could feel the heart suffering and the sheer pain he had. He connected that to when he had his family die he could almost feel their pain they were going through. He said he had no remorse for the act. When I read that it startled me on how dark Edgar makes his stories. This is one of the main reasons I dislike Edgar. I don t enjoy reading a story on fictional death and darkness. I d rather read a more adventurous story coming from twain.Another smaller difference they have that is evident in their writing is the point of view they write from. Edgar is famous for being one of the few authors to write in first person. It sets his works apart because of the detail he can get into with his dark stories, which is completely different to Twain. In Huckleberry Finn the point of view is third person omniscient. The difference between the two makes for a completely different theme of the story. Edgar can go for a more personal theme whilst Twain has more of a life lesson for a society. Lastly, Edgar does a great job on almost structuring his writing and making everything seem complex and make my mind wander as I read. I find this to be a strength of his but also a weakness. It s hard to follow and makes me second guess myself as what the actual reason is behind the story. This is another bonus to Twain, he makes the story one directional with some hidden meaning but, it makes you feel connected with him at the end of the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 19. Southern Speech In Tennessee Williams The Glass Menagerie Williams s Southern origin is essential to the poetic qualities of his language, as many critics have pointed out. Williams is particularly noted for his long line, which achieves the most surprising effects through a repetition in the fashion of Gertrude Stein (Migid, 1964, p.282), by using archaic words, introducing unexpected literary bookish words and ironically elegant phrase turns, which brings about a stylized representation of the Southern diction, which is more conscious, more vague, but also much more imaginative than the Northern speech. Being a Southern writer, Tennessee Williams was accustomed to and in full harmony with the natural rhythm and melody of Southern speech, which is heard particularly in the voices of women, as he himself pointed out. Although the shrine is known for containing a plethora of art, this essay will describe, interpret, and aesthetically judge two particular forms: Christ in Majesty , a 3,600 square foot mosaic that dominates the space above the altar of the great upper church, and the overall Romanesque Byzantine architecture of the structure. It portrays Christ as judging the world by fire, which is similar to 1 Corinthians 3:13, each one s work will become manifest, for the Day will disclose it, because it will be revealed by fire, and the fire will test what sort of work each one has done. Also, while looking closely at Christ s face, I realized that his right eyebrow is more arched and peaceful, while the one on the left is angled downward and severe. This technique of showing the Justice and Mercy of God on the face of Christ is commonly used in the Eastern Churches. In addition, this technique correlates with a verse in the Old Testament which says, On the Day of Judgement there will be mercy seen by those who have shown mercy and severe justice to those who have been severe. Furthermore, it is significant that Christ is portrayed as being strong and powerful, reiterating his role on the Day of Judgement. In contrast, the architecture of the church seems to depict what is described Romanesque Byzantine architecture. Romanesque architecture is defined by its massive size, thick walls, arches, piers, groin vaults, towers, and ornamented ambulatories. Poorer women, who might not have been able to afford soft papyrus or wool were recorded to have used softened aquatic grasses (Farage 101). • 31. What A Star That A Jerk Introduction The ability to identify and solve a workplace problem is an integral managing ability. Cliffe et al. s article, What a Star What a Jerk, (2001) focuses on a manager in a new position who is having problems with an aggressive, but talented, employee. Though the difficult worker in the article is a subordinate, I view the manager, Jane, as the cause of most issues. Jane demonstrates that she is not manager material by running to her old co worker with every problem, gossiping about her subordinates, complaining about basic managerial duties, and handling insubordination poorly. Through her behavior as a manager, Jane reminds me of Susan , a manager whom I recently had to suffer through working under. Although my situation is not exactly like that in the article, I understand how it feels to work for someone who acts inappropriately, causes conflict in the workplace, and lacks crucial leadership skills. Unifying With A New Team Jane s biggest mistake in her new position is keeping herself connected to her old position through communication with Rick, which ultimately disables her from fully merging into her new position. Similarly, after Susan transferred to our store, she was constantly on the phone with a manager from the store from which she transferred, sometimes ignoring incoming phone calls from customers and talking poorly of employees on phones by the front door where she could be heard.
