Artifical Intelligence Research
Describe the overhead transparencies metaphor proposed by Hatch. Do you believe that artificial
intelligence research can solve this problem? Language consists of many constituents and each of
them is full of disagreements and irregularities. At this stage Hatch et el. is trying to find a pattern
amongst these irregularities of components. Scholars did not reach an end for language its, there is no
conclusive definition for language, Which could show us that we do not know language fully or even
near fully. Hatch is saying why do not we try to put all SLA theories on transparencies and place them
over each other over overhead projector and try to consistency among them. She suggesting that we
should into language through its different angels instead of focusing on each angle alone. Focusing on
grammar alone may get some result that are not applicable to vocabulary teaching and instead we
should shift our attention to a bigger domain which the whole language. Artificial intelligence can
help in teaching language but it is not going to resolve the problem of language teaching fully. Simply
because artificial thinking is human product and up till now humans do not understand SLA fully
therefore, how could we expect that their product will surpass them. Why can t second language
educators, foreign language educators, psychologists, theoretical linguists, anthropologists, and
applied linguistics agree on acquisition/learning theories according to Long? Use Long s

African American Literature And Religion
Throughout history it can be easy to see that religion/faith and spirituality have been a big influence
on African American Literature. Religion and faith in African American Literature comes in many
forms depending on the author, but generally, this theme tended to relate to the desire for freedom.
Quite often authors wrote in prayer form, asking for God s assistance to help them make it through
their time of misery, to help them get through life as a slave. Faith in African American Literature was
vital to the unity of the African American slaves. Spirituality as well, as faith, brought a feeling of
community amongst the separated African American slaves. The African Americans religious practices
were an essential and foundational aspect of the world that the slaves created for themselves inside the
plantation, which was a cruel, cold, and unfair world forced upon the slaves. ... Show more content on

The point that is brought about among the texts is not necessarily the differences among the Christian
faith or African faiths or the Muslim faiths and how each affected the African American slave. The big
picture seen in the text is that faith and religion did in fact have a great positive effect among the
slaves and also had an effect on the environment that the slaves were pressed into during the lineage of
the black Americans from the 1800s until now.
Religion and Spirituality was in continues to be such a prominent theme in African American
Literature because religion and spirituality was/is so important in their everyday lives. I think that
without religion, many would have succumbed to their woes and their inhuman spiritual strength

In The Code Book, By Simon Singh
In the Code Book, by Simon Singh he talks about how the exchange of digital information over the
internet has become the most used way to send messages and mail. The use of cryptography is being
used to encrypt emails or important messages. Paper mail has slowly decreased because of everyone
using the internet to do everything and making it easier for someone to intercept an important message
. However, when sending the information or message thru paper mail it is more difficult for someone
to intercept the message, but if using the internet if you don t send it encrypted it can be easy for the
message to be read by someone else.
In The Dark Game by Paul Janeczko he talks about how spies would send messages about their

Transnational Corporations As The Movers And Shapers Of...
Transnational Corporations as the Primary movers and shapers of the World Economy: A critical
consideration
Transnational corporations (TNC s) have often been regarded by many commentators as the dominant
institutions within the contemporary global economy, and popular discourse has regularly painted
TNC s as amoral financial behemoths that transcend state boundaries and plunder the earth s resources
at will. Dicken (2007), in his examination of TNC s, attempted to allay some of the misconceptions of
TNC s, particularly the notion that such enterprises are truly global in form.
The concept of globalization is one that has pervaded public and academic discourse throughout the
last three decades. The term is seldom unheard in any ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
One of the features of economic globalization is what is known as economic interdependency i.e. an
economic downturn in one country can have negative effects on trading partners in other nation states.
One such example of this interdependency was during the 1970 s when OPEC (organisation of
petroleum producing countries) increased the price oil. This price hike increased the cost of energy
production, which caused price inflation in many other countries. Manufacturing and transport became
costlier, so profits dropped, and unemployment rose in many countries because of the inflated price of
production, so enormous pressure was heaped on the welfare systems and many investors lost
confidence (Martell, 2010).
Another prime example of global economic interdependency was the financial crises that occurred in
the United States during the latter stages of 2007. Various factors, including the sub prime mortgage
crises, had contributed to this financial catastrophe, which lead to the stock market falling 15% below
its peak in 2007 (Grynbaum, 2008:C1, C7), and another dip in 2008 was indicative of an economic
recession. The idea that the world s strongest economies could flourish independently was soon
proved to wrong (Ritzer Dean, 2015). Since US is a consumer of many of the worlds goods, nations
that usually export their

Genetic Discrimination In Australia
only lead to discrimination with insurance coverage but also with employers. Once the genetic
information is part of the individual s medical record, it may then be accessed by others. Cases of
employers having used genetic information as part of the selection process have been found in
Australia. Genetic discrimination has even been detected in the armed forces where a young man was
asked to provide documentation that showed he was not predisposed to Marfan syndrome, of which he
had a family history. Genetic discrimination is probably the biggest concern for individuals when it
comes to the cause and effects of genetic testing upon society. Some of this concern roots from the
extreme examples of world leaders and prevalent scientists in the ... Show more content on

If the genetic information is only accessible to the individual then there is a decreased chance of such
discrimination occurring because the information is disclosed to who the individual wishes to. Genetic
information can raise questions about personal responsibility, personal choice versus genetic
determinism, and concepts of health and disease. Personal factors, family values, and community and
cultural beliefs can mould the reactions to these issues. For example the response to the genetic
information and suggestion from physicians after the test will be drastically different in a society
where traditions and religion determine life choices, such as India, than to a more individually liberal
society like the USA. Even in a progressive society that has had specific ethnic groups for multiple
generations disparities with medical technology are common. A study conducted, using the national
representative data, in the USA with the sample that consisted of 1724 men and women of non
Hispanic whites, Latinos, and African American background. Results exposed significant differences
by racial/ethnic groups in knowledge and concerns about the potential misuse of genetic testing.
Significantly higher levels of mistrust in a physician and the medical system was a common thread
within minorities. The genetic tests can be a way of ridding anxiety attached to the assumed
inheritance of genetic disease due to family background whilst for others the genetic test reveals their
reality. The results can have a great deal of a psychological impact upon the individual. The possibility
of developing a genetic disease alone can create anxiety within some. The psychological impact from
the results revealed is another issue that society is concerned about. A

Frankenstein Critique
As Mary Shelley wrote Frankenstein, she poured much time into portraying her characters and making
them believable and life like. Her scenes are painted with beautiful, descriptive words that are colored
with vivid emotions and applicable morals. Her life experiences were strategically placed in her
writing to convey a sense of reality and completion of plots and subplots. Her experience with failed
love ties in with the emotion that she expresses the loneliness of Frankenstein s creation. She develops
her characters with passion and enhanced style.
Shelley does a very interesting job of developing her characters throughout Frankenstein. The way
that she uncovers and develops the monster is done very well. It s very fascinating how she ... Show

Chapters four through eight is an example of this. It s very lengthy and a long read.
Shelley has a lovely style of writing throughout the novel. It is very smooth and poetic. She uses
similes to describe thing like the weather or how someone feels. Sentences like, This noble war in the
sky elevated my spirits. and,
Did I request thee, Maker, from my clay
To mould me Man, did I solicit thee
From darkness to promote me? show off this poetic style she shows throughout.
Shelley uses passages like this throughout the novel. It is in a poetic style that really adds to the mood
of the book.
The idea of different narrators for different views on scenes displays a variety of style which are
associated with the main narrators: highly descriptive and rational told by Victor, and tragic and
moving by the monster. The style is rich in vocabulary and is very highly descriptive, especially with
the landscape, which also sometimes mirrors the character s feelings. I discovered more distinctly the
black sides of Jura, and the bright summit of Mount Blanc; I wept like a child: Dear mountains! my
own beautiful ale! how do you welcome your wanderer? Your summits are clear; the sky and lake are
blue and placid. Is this to prognosticate peace, or to mock at my unhappiness?
Mary Shelley relates Frankenstein to her personal life. Throughout her life, she experienced many
hardships including the loss of many children due to sickness and

Arrogance In China
The relationships between China and the West has been, throughout centuries, one of the most
fluctuating due to the arrogance found on both sides. Emperor Qianlong states his relationship with
Europe as one sided (Emperor Qianlong Mandate to King George III), based on how Qianlong boldly
says that the west needed China s products while china, itself, claimed that they already had
everything. This was to say if it did not benefit China in any way or form requests for further trade or
import/export was not instated or acted upon by the Emperor. Still, they did allow the trading of China
s manufactured goods, such as silk, tea, and porcelain, for silver (England and China: the Opium
Wars, 1839 60 June 2006) at the city of Macao and of Canton, ... Show more content on

Qianlong s bold way of assessing the western nation s culture and traditions, calling them barbaric
even, stems from his reaction, from his point of view, of how the West wanted to divide China up to
suit their own needs and wants. He especially resorts to sarcasm about how tiny England is (paragraph
5, pg.2) and plays to his own arrogance that Your England is not the only nation trading at Canton
(Emperor Qianlong Mandate to King George III, 2). Although this is true, due to trading with the
Dutch, Spanish, (etc.), yet he did not have to go as far as insulting how the lonely remoteness (Boston:
Houghton Mifflin 1913 (Letter dates 1793)) of England is and how they don t have the land mass and
remoteness of the Middle Kingdom. Then to add further insult Qianlong ordered the return of
Ambassador Macartney immediately and slightly threatened the British Empire (Emperor Qianlong
Mandate to King George III, 4 ) that if they did proceed to trade where they were not supposed to they
would be expelled quickly. Reading the article Qianlong is a very proud, fearless Emperor that had the
guts to say no to Britain, getting his point across to King George that China would not bow down to
them and give them everything they want, that China would not be assimilated into the Western
culture and be used for Europe s own ends, yet Qianlong put into a way which made the Crown
harden itself against China resulting in their deep animosity toward the Middle

1. The thing that motivated and sustained the long distance commerce of the Silk Roads, Sea Roads,

network, as well as the accumulation of wealth, especially among merchants who participated in the

Should I Invest in Jc Penney
Should I Invest in JC Penney Nadia shelchkov Wilmington University Abstract This paper explains

This means that JC Penney turns over their inventory 2.5 times during year. TJX turns over their
inventory 5 times during the year, in fact TJX is the only competitor whose turn over inventory
average is above the industry average. As stated in Fundamentals of Corporate Finance by Stephen A.
Ross, the Beta indicates the amount of systematic risk present in a particular risky asset relative to that
in an average risky asset (427). The Beta for JC Penney and TJX is above industry average that means
that these companies would have a greater expected return. Systematic risk or market risk is the risk
that affects a large number of assets. Examples of systematic risk are inflation or increasing the
interest rate, or any uncertainties in the economy but not the company s performance. Unsystematic
risk is the risk that mainly associated with specific companies or may be some competitors and
suppliers. The systematic risk affects the whole market and cannot be controlled by investors.
Unsystematic risk however affects the company and is controlled by the company s performance.
When investors invest money into a company they must research all aspects of that company so they
are aware of the unsystematic risks they may encounter. JC Penney is an unfavorable choice for
investors because the company analysis indicates that the company is unprofitable. Along with the bad

Romantic Period Comparison The romantic period and its literature is solely based off of reform and
change. At the time, slavery was very prodominit in the Americas, but the people profiting from their
virtues in England were oblivious to the conditions the slaves had to endure. On the other hand,
women were fighting their oppressions at home. This was not a case of poor living conditions, like the
slaves, but trying to break away from social standards and stereotypes placed upon them. At the time,
the main way to get out information and spread a cause was through literature, because it reached the

Olympic Stadium Controversy
Introduction
This controversy revolves around the stadium meant to be the host for the Tokyo 2020 Olympic
Games. With the preparations for the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo, one of the preparations was to
build a new stadium to host the games and in 2012, Zaha Hadid Architects (ZHA) won the stadium
commission through an international competition (Dezeen, 2015a). Soon after ZHA bid won, they
started work on the site and after two years, and after Japan had won the bid to host the 2020
Olympics, the controversy began with the main argument against the project being that the
architectural design was over budgeted and that it could not be financially sustainable. As a result,
ZHA had to revise their design in 2014 with a new design that addressed the previously voiced
criticism. However, with criticism still raging on, Japan Sports Council (JSC) canceled the firm s
plans in July 2015, after Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe weighed into the issue by announcing
that the design plans will be scrapped as a result of spiraling costs and that the project would be started
from scratch. This issue ended up being referred to as the Tokyo 2020 Olympic stadium controversy
and one of the major architectural controversies of 2015 (Dezeen magazine, 2015b). This paper, ...

My Experience At The University Of Oklahoma
According to the literal definition, hard work is a broad term that encompasses a vast amount of the
human population. I believe that the term is thrown around so often that it has almost become
meaningless. In my mind, hard work is throwing yourself into difficult situations and remaining both
dedicated and determined to conquer the task. Although the desired outcome is not always reached,
hard work remains an important value that allows us to show our full potential. I have been constantly
put in tough situations throughout my life and if it were not for my dedication and hard work, I would
not have made it to where I am today.
Being enrolled at the University of Oklahoma is a huge accomplishment. The journey began 14 years
ago when I enrolled in kindergarten at Jenks East Elementary in Tulsa, Oklahoma. As I grew older,
classwork gradually became harder and the fun activities, such as recess, came to a screeching halt in
the sixth grade. Starting with seventh grade, school just became a daily task that I had to force myself
to get through. However, I began receiving high school credit that year and so I told myself that I had
to do well in order to make it to the next level, college. When high school came around, I had to pay
attention to every class because it had the ability to permanently stain my transcript. I knew my
transcript was an important part of the college enrollment process, so I did everything that I could in
order to create an image that would appeal to

Representative Democracy In America
Many people believe that America is a democracy; these people are not wrong; however, the more
accurate term would be a representative democracy . The reason behind this is, as opposed to every
citizen going to the polls and voting on each public issue, we have elected officials that vote based on
their constituents preferences. Since it is the people that elect these representatives, it is critical that
public opinion be taken into consideration. However, regardless of how we gather our data, bias often
makes it difficult to accurately gauge public opinion. Public opinion can be defined as the collective
opinion of many people on some issue. When it comes to elections, party members attempt to estimate
a candidate favorability by polling the public using different techniques such as: calling, online
surveys, panels, and exit polls. However, when trying to get the statistically most accurate result, party
member must be weary of biases like biased questions, undercoverage, and sampling bias. ... Show

The terminator engine was very advanced for its time. The engine was a 4.6 dual overhead cam v8.
Sitting on top the engine was a supercharger. This was the first mustang in production to be powered

body. In a engine more air is key to more horsepower. This is so because oxygen is one of the biggest
factors in combustion. Combustion is how a engine runs. With that being said a supercharger is a
system that forces more air into the engine to make it faster. With all this going into the engine the car

Count Almasy s character lives in the desert among imperial explorers and in the desert environment
full of natives who bring to life classic stereotypes full of ignorance and white prevalence and power.

Concussions In The National Football League
From what I ve researched and what I ve experienced, I don t think it s worth the risk ( Chris Borland
). This quotation from former San Francisco 49er, Chris Borland, exemplifies the concern for the
increase in occurrence of concussions in the National Football League. A concussion is defined as a
type of traumatic brain injury caused by a blow to the head ( NFL Concussions ). The debate on who
is truly responsible for the injury s increasing presence in the NFL continues to be disputed in the
league today. Whether the blame is to be placed on the administrative personnel of the league or the
players and their actions, change is the one common denominator in the stances taken by both sides.
The National Football League is not doing enough ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The fact that a use of a more efficient test for diagnoses of the injury has not been implemented into
the league s concussion protocol provides support for this argument. Improper education of the true
amount of risk involved that will affect a player in the long term displays the carelessness of the
league s front office. Almost every athlete that remains connected to the NFL has a family that relies
on them for income and support. By discerning the safety of its very own employees, of which the
league would cease to exist without, the NFL is putting the lives and welfare of the players and their
families at risk. Money must become a secondary concern when one is dealing with a person s safety
on the football field. The league cannot continue to put the lives of its employees at risk in order to
avoid money loss. The National Football League is not doing enough to prevent concussions from
continually occurring in the league today and a change in policy is mandatory in order to provide a
safe environment for its players. Nothing matters more than a person s

However, I also learned a lot of new information, and still have questions about some of what I

were around, and that these glaciers contained 39 thousand cubic miles of water. I also learned that the
glaciers left chatter marks, grooves in bedrock caused by glacial plucking, on the top of Bear
Mountain, 1280 feet above sea level, which meant that 17 million cubic miles of ice covered North
America, equaling about 68 thousand trillion tons. I also learned that a coral stone quarry was found

I knew that both lateral and terminal moraines are formed when rocks and sediment are moved by
glaciers, and that these moraines are left on the sides and front of glaciers, respectively. To me, this
suggests that the rocks could only be deposited in lateral moraines, or in the terminal moraines if the
glacier stops, changes directions drastically, or decreases in weight severely. If none of this occurs, the
boulders will continue to be pushed. Therefore, the boulders mark the farthest outreach of one glacier,
as long as no smaller glaciers occurred afterwards. One question that I have is: how long did it take for
the largest glaciers to retreat to approximately the size of our glaciers today, if it ever did? Even
though the movie repeatedly showed an digital animation showing the amount of snow and ice

Drama therapy is defined as an intentional and systematic application of drama/ theatre processes,

established from psychotherapy and the tools to achieve these goals are derived from theatre
Children use drama as therapy spontaneously, with no outside direction or pre imposed structure.

Massachusetts Bay Colonies Dbq
In the spring of 1630, John Winthrop and his group of Puritan immigrants arrived on the shores of the
Massachusetts Bay. There they founded the Massachusetts Bay Colony, an exclusively Puritan
settlement based on the strict religious ideas of the colonists. As the colony expanded from the 1630s
to the 1660s, these strict Puritan ideas and values influenced its economic development by putting the
focus of the colony on the religion instead of on the creation of a settlement for monetary or expansive
profit, its political development, by and its social development, by regulating the way other religions,
women, and education were treated. While some of the other new colonies in America were founded

Their government was to allow no religious freedom, much like that of England. Though the Puritan
colonists had left England to flee religious persecution, they continued with the persecution of other
religions in their own colony. Nathaniel Ward states, He that is willing to tolerate any religion, or
discrepant way of religion, besides his own, unless it be in matters merely indifferent, either doubts of
his own or is not sincere in it... (Doc F). His words, and the beliefs of the colonists, show that only the
Puritan religion was socially acceptable. This resulted in a split between many of the Puritan colonists.
When Roger Williams, a prominent Puritan preacher spoke out about religious freedom, he was exiled
from the colony. Anne Hutchinson, whose strong religious convictions were also at odds with Puritan
theology, was banished from the colony, along with her family and group of followers, and
excommunicated from the church. Hutchinson s treatment was even harsher than Williams s, however,

KLANG! The most satisfying sound that a baseball player can hear. That is the sound of a solid hit
that every player dreams on getting every time they are up to bat. Now, a lot of people do not get how

Rigoberta Menchu Literary Analysis
The Guatemalan Civil War was a period filled with constant battles between the national government
and the indigenous Maya population. In I, Rigoberta Menchu: An Indian Woman in Guatemala, we
witness Menchu s compelling narrative highlighting indigenous life during the Guatemalan Civil War.
Since publication, her narrative has achieved world acclaim as it was awarded the Nobel Peace in
1992. Such acclaim, however, has incited critics to question her narrative, as does anthropologist
David Stoll in Rigoberta Menchu and the Story of All Poor Guatemalans. Although the questioning of
historical accounts is valid, David Stoll s challenge of Menchu serves no purpose other than to
discredit Menchu s personal narrative. Therefore, I find Menchu ... Show more content on

She recollects earning only a meager 20 centavos for picking 35 pounds of coffee a day. However,
Stoll claims that Rigoberta never experienced working on the plantations as her father was not poor by
local standards . Yet, regardless of her level of poverty, Menchu was still impecunious as she was
living at the edge of the Altiplano mountains cultivating crops for the entirety of her day to simply
provide for her family. Stoll continues to say that Menchu provides an inaccurate representation of her
village as it was a more fluid society than conveyed . He states that the indígenas were learning better
ways to make a living and were not working in plantations as much, instead, they were going to
school in record numbers . Therefore, Stoll attempts to discredit the persona of Menchu as a humble
indigenous woman who overcame a multitude of obstacles in order to tarnish her entire narrative as a
false account in his desperate search for public recognition. Lastly, to disrepute Menchu, Stoll
attempts to disgrace the peasant movement she and her family were heavily involved with. He
denounces the protesters from Comité de Unidad Campesina (CUC), by criticizing their decision of
carrying Molotov cocktails in their occupation of the Spanish embassy. Stoll asserts that it should not

Paper #1
Joan Didion Analysis
Within writing, authors have to find a way to hook and interest the reader in many ways. Many
authors use rhetorical appeals when writing. Rhetorical appeals are logos, pathos, ethos, and kairos.
These appeals help one to appeal to character, logic, emotion, time and more. When writing, the
author has to consider the writer, the reader, the medium, and the text for the work in which they
would like to create. When considering all of these concepts, the author is able to create a good
persuasive writing. The author Joan Didion uses many rhetorical appeals such as, pathos, logos and
ethos. Didion s main purpose for writing this passage is to persuade people ... Show more content on

Didion uses logos to tell her reader about the condition itself. The statement, Migraine gives some
people mild hallucinations, temporarily blinds others, shows up not only as a headache but as a
gastrointestinal disturbance, a painful sensitivity to all sensory stimuli, an abrupt overpowering
fatigue... (Didion). This statement gives many facts about the pain of migraines. This statement can
also be considered pathos because Didion uses many descriptive words to allow the reader to feel the
pain of a migraine. Another example of logos is when Didion begins to talk about former presidents
Thomas Jefferson and Ulysses S. Grant. While she is talking about these two presidents she states the
fact that they both suffered from migraines which is a proven fact. Didion calls her migraines a
physiological error which can be a fact about why migraines occur. Didion also uses logos when she
states, The chemistry of migraine, however, seems to have some connection with the nerve hormone
named serotonin, which is naturally present in the brain (Didion). This quote from the passage is an
example of logos because it states the facts and reasons as to why migraines may occur and how it
connects to the brain. Within the fourth paragraph of Didion s passage are many other examples of
logos. This paragraph gives an in depth explanation if how the actions of a migraine may occur.
Finally, another example of logos is used when she considers

Aristophanes Voices Concerns for Ancient Greek Culture in...
Aristophanes was not a proponent of the majority of Athenian culture, as well as other aspects of
Greek life as whole. He despised the political, educational, and societal views that remained persistent
throughout Athens. While his plays may be comedies, he uses them in an assortment of ways. His
plays are used to demonstrate a purpose far beyond that of entertainment. He uses his writing for
voicing the problems that lie in Ancient culture.
Aristophanes uses each play to reveal certain issues that he felt should have been dealt with. His plays
featured satire, farces, and even comical dialogue. His plays were written with clarity and were quite
lyrical. Using plays as vessels for opinion is defined best by saying that The ... Show more content on

He creates a private and individual peace treaty with the Spartans, and he finally receives his peace.
His land and his home become war free (The Acharnians, lines 195 204).
The Acharnians were appalled that Dikaiopolis had signed a peace treaty. They form a mob and head
to his home. There, they insult him and they threaten his life. But the whole time this is going on,
Dikaiopolis is mocking them. He is insulting them because of how foolish they really are. Dikaiopolis
doesn t understand why they want to fight so much.
He takes every opportunity to advocate their stupidity by comically refuting their actions toward him
and his family. Dikaiopolis says, Comedy too can sometimes discern what is right. I shall not please,
but I shall say what is true, (The Acharnians, lines 500 501). He means that he is going to say
whatever he feels is right, and in the end, no matter what actions the Acharnians take, there isn t
anything they can do to stop him from laughing at what they do.
Aristophanes uses Dikaiopolis as an agent of conveyance. The Peloponnesian War had devastated the
Greek world in the 5th century (Perry, pg. 70), and this play was written to solidify Aristophanes
agreement with this statement. By choosing the Acharnians for this play, he chose a people that the
Athenians could relate to; a beaten down group of individuals whose only hopes of regaining pride
rested in their efforts to win the war.
When this play was written, the Peloponnesian War

Amusing Ourselves To Death Neil Postman Analysis
In 1985, when Neil Postman penned, Amusing Ourselves to Death, CNN, and the twenty four hour
news cycle existed in its infancy and televangelism was still unscathed by the Jim Baker and Jimmy
Swaggart scandals. A B movie actor sat in the Oval Office. Conceivably most importantly, television,
the love child of the photograph and the telegraph, had reached maturity to become fully entrenched in
American culture after thirty some years (p. 100). Newscasters, preachers, and politicians had become
celebrities. The information presented on the tube was deficient in meaningful content and lacked
context. Nevertheless, the public s level of amusement rode high. Television s capacity to manipulate
public persona and information on the news, in religion, and in politics creates a vaudeville
atmosphere on these modes of public discourse.
First, when it comes to the news, Postman raises the fact that television is a business that sells its time

How To Increase Oil Prices In America
We the American people have seen rising oil and gasoline prices continuously over the last few
decades. Each year is slightly higher than the last. However, we have seen a few instances where oil
and gasoline prices have spiked rapidly enough to invoke the American public to stop spending or cut
back. The first time in recent history was after the hurricanes Katrina and Rita in 2005. Then, in July
2008 we saw a massive jump to the current record high national average of $4.50 per gallon of
gasoline. Oil at this time was over $115 per barrel of light sweet crude which is the oil that American s
use in their gasoline. Currently the US oil and gasoline prices continue to increase. In the last month
gasoline alone has risen almost 17 cents a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Thus, if the reason for the panic in oil prices is Libya then there really isn t one. Considering that most
of Libya s export goes to Europe and it s also in the form of Bent crude oil which American doesn t
even use. In comparison Egypt and Tunisia during their revolutions didn t loose any oil exports. So
again even as a whole the conflict in the Middle East isn t a valid reason for this jump in oil prices.
These events can have an effect on oil prices. However the evidence only points to a partial effect, not
as much as some people would have you believe. The next most common used cause for the increase
of oil prices is the explanation of supply and demand. Currently the world uses 85 million barrels a
day, and currently the supply per day is only 80 million barrels (source). To reflect, the current market
price of oil is roughly $105 per barrel. For those that say supply and demand is the main reason why I
have a question. Why if the difference is 5 million barrels per day is the price per barrel of oil only
$105? When in 2008 the difference between supply and demand was only 1 million barrels. At this
time the price of oil was greater than $120 per barrel and gasoline was closing in on $5 per gallon.
Although regardless of the amounts the markets drive the price supply and demand does have its
place. We are using more and more oil and gasoline and that will eventually drive the

The Development Of The Psyche
As a child, people are in the most delicate phase of life. They are a freshly budded lily, absorbing all
the light, moisture, and nutrients possible in order to bloom into an adult. These essential fertilizers
predominantly come from their parents, who nurture them into the person they will become. This unit
commonly consists of a mother and father. The mother a symbol of intimacy and maternal comfort,
and the father a symbol of strength and stature. The balance of this yin and yang is extremely
important for the development of the psyche. Having a fatherless childhood or a childhood with a
degenerate father is common in today s society. The effects of not having a father figure ripple through
childhood and lay roots in the subconscious. There are two types of a fatherless childhood. Some grow
up without a father in their life entirely, without any knowledge of who he may have been. Others
grow up with a father in their life that does more destructive impact than constructive impact. Some
may say that a destructive parent is still a parent to their child, but arguably a parent without
constructive development to their spawn is not a parent at all. This hollow in a child s life leaves a
space for destructive energy to breed. Many challenges adults face within themselves reflect back into
their childhood. The subconscious is the seed left over from the lily s bloom, which died along with
childhood innocence. The fight to gain back said innocence is the ultimate struggle.

It is also used in making switches and various other electronic apparatus. It is also used in make
thermometers and barometers because of its greatest density of 13.534 gm cm to power of 3, it does
not need a large tube to measure the pressure and thermometer. Like in a barometer if we use water
then we would need a tube of 10.4m to measure the atmospheric temperature but if we use mercury
we can measure the atmospheric temperature in a tube on only 0.76m. In a thermometers because of
its large range of the boiling and melting points, it helps us to measure a large range of temperature. It

dental amalgam because when it is mixed with amalgam powder, the compound it creates is soft
enough to press on the tooth. it also becomes hard very fast which helps it to withstand the force of
biting. But it has raised question on whether it is safe and U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA)
evaluated the research and told it is safe for people above 6 years of age. **** One of the
disadvantage of mercury is that it is toxic in nature due to which it has to be handled with care. Due to
which it can result in death of people if they get mercury poisoning and if it is not treated in time. Due
to mercury we are now able to make thermometers and barometers which has helped the people a lot.

  • 2. Artifical Intelligence Research Describe the overhead transparencies metaphor proposed by Hatch. Do you believe that artificial intelligence research can solve this problem? Language consists of many constituents and each of them is full of disagreements and irregularities. At this stage Hatch et el. is trying to find a pattern amongst these irregularities of components. Scholars did not reach an end for language its, there is no conclusive definition for language, Which could show us that we do not know language fully or even near fully. Hatch is saying why do not we try to put all SLA theories on transparencies and place them over each other over overhead projector and try to consistency among them. She suggesting that we should into language through its different angels instead of focusing on each angle alone. Focusing on grammar alone may get some result that are not applicable to vocabulary teaching and instead we should shift our attention to a bigger domain which the whole language. Artificial intelligence can help in teaching language but it is not going to resolve the problem of language teaching fully. Simply because artificial thinking is human product and up till now humans do not understand SLA fully therefore, how could we expect that their product will surpass them. Why can t second language educators, foreign language educators, psychologists, theoretical linguists, anthropologists, and applied linguistics agree on acquisition/learning theories according to Long? • 3. African American Literature And Religion Throughout history it can be easy to see that religion/faith and spirituality have been a big influence on African American Literature. Religion and faith in African American Literature comes in many forms depending on the author, but generally, this theme tended to relate to the desire for freedom. Quite often authors wrote in prayer form, asking for God s assistance to help them make it through their time of misery, to help them get through life as a slave. Faith in African American Literature was vital to the unity of the African American slaves. Spirituality as well, as faith, brought a feeling of community amongst the separated African American slaves. The African Americans religious practices were an essential and foundational aspect of the world that the slaves created for themselves inside the plantation, which was a cruel, cold, and unfair world forced upon the slaves. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The point that is brought about among the texts is not necessarily the differences among the Christian faith or African faiths or the Muslim faiths and how each affected the African American slave. The big picture seen in the text is that faith and religion did in fact have a great positive effect among the slaves and also had an effect on the environment that the slaves were pressed into during the lineage of the black Americans from the 1800s until now. Religion and Spirituality was in continues to be such a prominent theme in African American Literature because religion and spirituality was/is so important in their everyday lives. In The Code Book, By Simon Singh In the Code Book, by Simon Singh he talks about how the exchange of digital information over the internet has become the most used way to send messages and mail. The use of cryptography is being used to encrypt emails or important messages. Paper mail has slowly decreased because of everyone using the internet to do everything and making it easier for someone to intercept an important message . However, when sending the information or message thru paper mail it is more difficult for someone to intercept the message, but if using the internet if you don t send it encrypted it can be easy for the message to be read by someone else. • 5. Transnational Corporations As The Movers And Shapers Of... Transnational Corporations as the Primary movers and shapers of the World Economy: A critical consideration Transnational corporations (TNC s) have often been regarded by many commentators as the dominant institutions within the contemporary global economy, and popular discourse has regularly painted TNC s as amoral financial behemoths that transcend state boundaries and plunder the earth s resources at will. Dicken (2007), in his examination of TNC s, attempted to allay some of the misconceptions of TNC s, particularly the notion that such enterprises are truly global in form. The concept of globalization is one that has pervaded public and academic discourse throughout the last three decades. The term is seldom unheard in any ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... One of the features of economic globalization is what is known as economic interdependency i.e. an economic downturn in one country can have negative effects on trading partners in other nation states. One such example of this interdependency was during the 1970 s when OPEC (organisation of petroleum producing countries) increased the price oil. This price hike increased the cost of energy production, which caused price inflation in many other countries. Manufacturing and transport became costlier, so profits dropped, and unemployment rose in many countries because of the inflated price of production, so enormous pressure was heaped on the welfare systems and many investors lost confidence (Martell, 2010). Another prime example of global economic interdependency was the financial crises that occurred in the United States during the latter stages of 2007. Various factors, including the sub prime mortgage crises, had contributed to this financial catastrophe, which lead to the stock market falling 15% below its peak in 2007 (Grynbaum, 2008:C1, C7), and another dip in 2008 was indicative of an economic recession. The idea that the world s strongest economies could flourish independently was soon proved to wrong (Ritzer Dean, 2015). • 6. Genetic Discrimination In Australia only lead to discrimination with insurance coverage but also with employers. Once the genetic information is part of the individual s medical record, it may then be accessed by others. Cases of employers having used genetic information as part of the selection process have been found in Australia. Genetic discrimination has even been detected in the armed forces where a young man was asked to provide documentation that showed he was not predisposed to Marfan syndrome, of which he had a family history. Genetic discrimination is probably the biggest concern for individuals when it comes to the cause and effects of genetic testing upon society. Some of this concern roots from the extreme examples of world leaders and prevalent scientists in the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... If the genetic information is only accessible to the individual then there is a decreased chance of such discrimination occurring because the information is disclosed to who the individual wishes to. Genetic information can raise questions about personal responsibility, personal choice versus genetic determinism, and concepts of health and disease. Personal factors, family values, and community and cultural beliefs can mould the reactions to these issues. For example the response to the genetic information and suggestion from physicians after the test will be drastically different in a society where traditions and religion determine life choices, such as India, than to a more individually liberal society like the USA. Even in a progressive society that has had specific ethnic groups for multiple generations disparities with medical technology are common. A study conducted, using the national representative data, in the USA with the sample that consisted of 1724 men and women of non Hispanic whites, Latinos, and African American background. Results exposed significant differences by racial/ethnic groups in knowledge and concerns about the potential misuse of genetic testing. Significantly higher levels of mistrust in a physician and the medical system was a common thread within minorities. The genetic tests can be a way of ridding anxiety attached to the assumed inheritance of genetic disease due to family background whilst for others the genetic test reveals their reality. The results can have a great deal of a psychological impact upon the individual. The possibility of developing a genetic disease alone can create anxiety within some. The psychological impact from the results revealed is another issue that society is concerned about. A ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. Frankenstein Critique As Mary Shelley wrote Frankenstein, she poured much time into portraying her characters and making them believable and life like. Her scenes are painted with beautiful, descriptive words that are colored with vivid emotions and applicable morals. Her life experiences were strategically placed in her writing to convey a sense of reality and completion of plots and subplots. Her experience with failed love ties in with the emotion that she expresses the loneliness of Frankenstein s creation. She develops her characters with passion and enhanced style. Shelley does a very interesting job of developing her characters throughout Frankenstein. The way that she uncovers and develops the monster is done very well. It s very fascinating how she ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Chapters four through eight is an example of this. It s very lengthy and a long read. Shelley has a lovely style of writing throughout the novel. It is very smooth and poetic. She uses similes to describe thing like the weather or how someone feels. Shelley uses passages like this throughout the novel. It is in a poetic style that really adds to the mood of the book. The idea of different narrators for different views on scenes displays a variety of style which are associated with the main narrators: highly descriptive and rational told by Victor, and tragic and moving by the monster. The style is rich in vocabulary and is very highly descriptive, especially with the landscape, which also sometimes mirrors the character s feelings. I discovered more distinctly the black sides of Jura, and the bright summit of Mount Blanc; I wept like a child: Dear mountains! my own beautiful ale! how do you welcome your wanderer? Your summits are clear; the sky and lake are blue and placid. Is this to prognosticate peace, or to mock at my unhappiness? Mary Shelley relates Frankenstein to her personal life. • 8. Arrogance In China The relationships between China and the West has been, throughout centuries, one of the most fluctuating due to the arrogance found on both sides. Emperor Qianlong states his relationship with Europe as one sided (Emperor Qianlong Mandate to King George III), based on how Qianlong boldly says that the west needed China s products while china, itself, claimed that they already had everything. This was to say if it did not benefit China in any way or form requests for further trade or import/export was not instated or acted upon by the Emperor. Still, they did allow the trading of China s manufactured goods, such as silk, tea, and porcelain, for silver (England and China: the Opium Wars, 1839 60 June 2006) at the city of Macao and of Canton, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Qianlong s bold way of assessing the western nation s culture and traditions, calling them barbaric even, stems from his reaction, from his point of view, of how the West wanted to divide China up to suit their own needs and wants. He especially resorts to sarcasm about how tiny England is (paragraph 5, pg.2) and plays to his own arrogance that Your England is not the only nation trading at Canton (Emperor Qianlong Mandate to King George III, 2). Although this is true, due to trading with the Dutch, Spanish, (etc.), yet he did not have to go as far as insulting how the lonely remoteness (Boston: Houghton Mifflin 1913 (Letter dates 1793)) of England is and how they don t have the land mass and remoteness of the Middle Kingdom. Then to add further insult Qianlong ordered the return of Ambassador Macartney immediately and slightly threatened the British Empire (Emperor Qianlong Mandate to King George III, 4 ) that if they did proceed to trade where they were not supposed to they would be expelled quickly. Reading the article Qianlong is a very proud, fearless Emperor that had the guts to say no to Britain, getting his point across to King George that China would not bow down to them and give them everything they want, that China would not be assimilated into the Western culture and be used for Europe s own ends, yet Qianlong put into a way which made the Crown harden itself against China resulting in their deep animosity toward the Middle ... The Beta for JC Penney and TJX is above industry average that means that these companies would have a greater expected return. On the other hand, women were fighting their oppressions at home. This was not a case of poor living conditions, like the slaves, but trying to break away from social standards and stereotypes placed upon them. With the preparations for the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo, one of the preparations was to build a new stadium to host the games and in 2012, Zaha Hadid Architects (ZHA) won the stadium commission through an international competition (Dezeen, 2015a). Soon after ZHA bid won, they started work on the site and after two years, and after Japan had won the bid to host the 2020 Olympics, the controversy began with the main argument against the project being that the architectural design was over budgeted and that it could not be financially sustainable. As a result, ZHA had to revise their design in 2014 with a new design that addressed the previously voiced criticism. However, with criticism still raging on, Japan Sports Council (JSC) canceled the firm s plans in July 2015, after Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe weighed into the issue by announcing that the design plans will be scrapped as a result of spiraling costs and that the project would be started from scratch. In my mind, hard work is throwing yourself into difficult situations and remaining both dedicated and determined to conquer the task. Although the desired outcome is not always reached, hard work remains an important value that allows us to show our full potential. I have been constantly put in tough situations throughout my life and if it were not for my dedication and hard work, I would not have made it to where I am today. Being enrolled at the University of Oklahoma is a huge accomplishment. The journey began 14 years ago when I enrolled in kindergarten at Jenks East Elementary in Tulsa, Oklahoma. As I grew older, classwork gradually became harder and the fun activities, such as recess, came to a screeching halt in the sixth grade. Starting with seventh grade, school just became a daily task that I had to force myself to get through. Aristophanes uses each play to reveal certain issues that he felt should have been dealt with. His plays featured satire, farces, and even comical dialogue. His plays were written with clarity and were quite lyrical. Using plays as vessels for opinion is defined best by saying that The ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... He creates a private and individual peace treaty with the Spartans, and he finally receives his peace. His land and his home become war free (The Acharnians, lines 195 204). The Acharnians were appalled that Dikaiopolis had signed a peace treaty. They form a mob and head to his home. There, they insult him and they threaten his life. But the whole time this is going on, Dikaiopolis is mocking them. He is insulting them because of how foolish they really are. Dikaiopolis doesn t understand why they want to fight so much. He takes every opportunity to advocate their stupidity by comically refuting their actions toward him and his family. Dikaiopolis says, Comedy too can sometimes discern what is right. I shall not please, but I shall say what is true, (The Acharnians, lines 500 501). He means that he is going to say whatever he feels is right, and in the end, no matter what actions the Acharnians take, there isn t anything they can do to stop him from laughing at what they do. Aristophanes uses Dikaiopolis as an agent of conveyance. The Peloponnesian War had devastated the Greek world in the 5th century (Perry, pg. 70), and this play was written to solidify Aristophanes agreement with this statement. By choosing the Acharnians for this play, he chose a people that the Athenians could relate to; a beaten down group of individuals whose only hopes of regaining pride rested in their efforts to win the war. Amusing Ourselves To Death Neil Postman Analysis In 1985, when Neil Postman penned, Amusing Ourselves to Death, CNN, and the twenty four hour news cycle existed in its infancy and televangelism was still unscathed by the Jim Baker and Jimmy Swaggart scandals. A B movie actor sat in the Oval Office. Conceivably most importantly, television, the love child of the photograph and the telegraph, had reached maturity to become fully entrenched in American culture after thirty some years (p. 100). Newscasters, preachers, and politicians had become celebrities. The information presented on the tube was deficient in meaningful content and lacked context. Nevertheless, the public s level of amusement rode high. Television s capacity to manipulate public persona and information on the news, in religion, and in politics creates a vaudeville atmosphere on these modes of public discourse. First, when it comes to the news, Postman raises the fact that television is a business that sells its time in minutes and seconds. While the thirty minute ... Even though the crisis was on the news nightly for around a year, most people had no knowledge of basic information about the Iranians. Yet, nearly everyone had an opinion, mostly based on the emotion based on watching the news and being informed . Perhaps this is better described as disinformation, not false or untrue, but fragmented, irrelevant and misleading. This is the inevitable result of TV news packaging serious discourse as entertainment, a vaudeville ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 33. How To Increase Oil Prices In America We the American people have seen rising oil and gasoline prices continuously over the last few decades. Each year is slightly higher than the last. However, we have seen a few instances where oil and gasoline prices have spiked rapidly enough to invoke the American public to stop spending or cut back. The first time in recent history was after the hurricanes Katrina and Rita in 2005. Then, in July 2008 we saw a massive jump to the current record high national average of $4.50 per gallon of gasoline. Oil at this time was over $115 per barrel of light sweet crude which is the oil that American s use in their gasoline. Currently the US oil and gasoline prices continue to increase. In the last month gasoline alone has risen almost 17 cents a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Thus, if the reason for the panic in oil prices is Libya then there really isn t one. Considering that most of Libya s export goes to Europe and it s also in the form of Bent crude oil which American doesn t even use. In comparison Egypt and Tunisia during their revolutions didn t loose any oil exports. So again even as a whole the conflict in the Middle East isn t a valid reason for this jump in oil prices. These events can have an effect on oil prices. However the evidence only points to a partial effect, not as much as some people would have you believe. The next most common used cause for the increase of oil prices is the explanation of supply and demand. Currently the world uses 85 million barrels a day, and currently the supply per day is only 80 million barrels (source). To reflect, the current market price of oil is roughly $105 per barrel. For those that say supply and demand is the main reason why I have a question. Why if the difference is 5 million barrels per day is the price per barrel of oil only $105? When in 2008 the difference between supply and demand was only 1 million barrels. At this time the price of oil was greater than $120 per barrel and gasoline was closing in on $5 per gallon. Although regardless of the amounts the markets drive the price supply and demand does have its place. We are using more and more oil and gasoline and that will eventually drive the ... • 34. The Development Of The Psyche As a child, people are in the most delicate phase of life. They are a freshly budded lily, absorbing all the light, moisture, and nutrients possible in order to bloom into an adult. These essential fertilizers predominantly come from their parents, who nurture them into the person they will become. This unit commonly consists of a mother and father. The mother a symbol of intimacy and maternal comfort, and the father a symbol of strength and stature. The balance of this yin and yang is extremely important for the development of the psyche. Having a fatherless childhood or a childhood with a degenerate father is common in today s society. The effects of not having a father figure ripple through childhood and lay roots in the subconscious. There are two types of a fatherless childhood. Some grow up without a father in their life entirely, without any knowledge of who he may have been. Others grow up with a father in their life that does more destructive impact than constructive impact. Some may say that a destructive parent is still a parent to their child, but arguably a parent without constructive development to their spawn is not a parent at all. This hollow in a child s life leaves a space for destructive energy to breed. Many challenges adults face within themselves reflect back into their childhood. The subconscious is the seed left over from the lily s bloom, which died along with childhood innocence. The fight to gain back said innocence is the ultimate struggle. ... It is one of the metal which is liquid in normal pressure and temperature. Which helps us to understand many parameters which are dependent on pressure and temperature. It was recognized as an element by A. L. Lavoisier in the 18th century. Some of the properties of the element are as follows. Chemical name Mercury Chemical symbol Hg Atomic number 80 Average mass number 200.59 Electronic shell configuration * 1s2 2s2 2p6 3s2 3p6 3d10 4s2 4p6 4d10 4f14 5s2 5p6 5d10 6s2 Freezing point 38.83 degree celsius Boiling point 356.73 degree celsius Density 13.534 g·cm−3 Isotopes of Mercury ... It is also used in make thermometers and barometers because of its greatest density of 13.534 gm cm to power of 3, it does not need a large tube to measure the pressure and thermometer. Like in a barometer if we use water then we would need a tube of 10.4m to measure the atmospheric temperature but if we use mercury we can measure the atmospheric temperature in a tube on only 0.76m. In a thermometers because of its large range of the boiling and melting points, it helps us to measure a large range of temperature. It also been used for making batteries. It can also be used to dental amalgams. Mercury is used to make dental amalgam because when it is mixed with amalgam powder, the compound it creates is soft enough to press on the tooth. it also becomes hard very fast which helps it to withstand the force of biting. But it has raised question on whether it is safe and U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) evaluated the research and told it is safe for people above 6 years of age. **** One of the disadvantage of mercury is that it is toxic in nature due to which it has to be handled with care. Due to which it can result in death of people if they get mercury poisoning and if it is not treated in time. Due to mercury we are now able to make thermometers and barometers which has helped the people a lot. Due to it has helped us to find ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
