The Influence Of The Mass Media In The Media
Mass media has a huge influence on communities across America. There are numerous mass media
platforms like the internet, tv, magazines, and radio. Through the use of this platforms, messages are
able to be given to the public at a huge and rapid rate. Information can at times, however, be
misleading. Due to the fact that the media has a huge influence on the views of people, it is often used
as a way to deteriorate the image of a certain group or individual, underrepresenting them in the
entertainment business. In the 1950 s African Americans were underrepresented in the media,
accounting for 6% of tv characters. Their numbers increased to 16% in the 1980 s (Rodriguez 13).
That, however, has not been the case for the Hispanic/ Latino community. The Hispanic / Latino
community are underrepresented in the mass media, being portrayed negatively in their moments in
the media. This research began on November November 7, 2017. Online databases and books were all
acquired through the Augsburg University Library. I looked for peer reviewed sources in order to
make my research as credible as possible. The population interest were Latinos and the media during
after the 1950 s. The process began by reading all sources and identifying the most relevant
information to my topic. As information was gathered, some of the sources that were of little to no use
were taken out of the research. When going through the information gathering while reading, there
was a lot of focus given on the data and its analysis done by the researchers. Once information was
gathered on one source, I would move onto the next. To organize the information gathered, it was
classified by focus. In example, if in two sources news coverage was the topic, they would be grouped
together. Once the information was organized and sorted out, the information was compared and
analysed. Than it would be put into the actual research paper. The research done gives a general
representation of the representation of Latinos on the media. In some states, this would not apply as
they have local Latino tv channels, ran by the community itself. Some of this information was
included in the research itself.
Latinos have always been underrepresented in the

Essay Assignment #2 The LGBT community in the United States has always had massive difficulty
fitting into our society. For many years they put up with constant mistreatment and other forms of
abuse coming from the those who do not agree with their lifestyle. They have for long advocated for
the acceptance of their existence and punishment for crimes committed against them. One of the
hardest battles the community has had to face was the right to marry in a society that still holds the
values of a traditional relationship which is between a male and female. The struggle was quite harsh
but it all paid off by 2015 when the supreme court granted gay couples the right to marry. This
historical decision did not go without outcry and criticisms. Most of the dissatisfaction came from
those who hold very religious values and beliefs that claims homosexuality is a sin. Religion has
always been a part of the American way of life since the nation s founding and with that
homosexuality has been demonized throughout our society. Now that gay couple possess the legal
rights to have a marriage license, religious companies and/or stores are now denying service to LGBT
couples as they believe it sinful on their behalf to even take part. Many people gay or straight who
fought for gay rights believe these is pure discrimination and that stores should not have the right to
deny service for any customer for any reason. However, this belief is unconstitutional and goes

from these outpatient settings tends to go unreported therefore affecting the accuracy of any research
that would be based on this information. For this reason I would not recommend this as an effective
skin cancer prevention strategy.
While the strategies mentioned in this section can still be used to prevent skin cancer, they have some
defects that prevent them from being the main prevention strategies. Some of them are as a result of
them having a short term benefit but long term disadvantage such as the Resurfacing Procedures while

Through this strategy, children acquire important knowledge and vital skill on the dangers of exposing
their skin to ultraviolet radiations from the sun and some of the ways they avoid these radiations. The
idea informing this strategy is so as to provide awareness as well as education about skin cancer from
very young age so that children can acquire the right habits right from an early age.
This strategy is a high priority because according to medical studies protection from the sun s
ultraviolet radiation is usually very important in childhood because sunburns that have been developed
early during the life time of a person can often lead to the emergence of skin cancer their adulthood. It
is estimated that approximately 80% of the sun damage on the skin a person during their lifetime
usually happens during their childhood.
An example of where this skin cancer preventive strategy was applied was in The SunWise School
National Program took place between1999 to 2000 and it targeted a school setting of primary and
secondary school levels and the target population was K 8 graduate students (Geller AC, Cantor M,

Supernatural Elements In Macbeth
It is not often that Shakespeare coming alive on the big screen makes it any better, but Justin Kurzel
managed in Macbeth (2015) to both be true to the classic and contribute with his own modern twist,
both technically and plotwise.
Shakespeare can be interpreted in many different ways. Justin Krezel has chosen a very modern
interpretation, which tries to make Macbeth s actions more clearly understood by the viewer, by
introducing the idea of Macbeth having post traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), as a product of many
wars and a lost child.
The story is about the tragic hero Macbeth who succumbs to his ambition and desire. The plot is
initiated when he faces the Weïrd sisters prophesies that he will become king of Scotland. First, he is

The movie features beautiful depictions of the Scottish nature. Furthermore, the big contrasts in colour
create a very artistic, scenic movie. This contrast of colours is very modern and sophisticated. This is
most dramatically presented in the final scene, where Macbeth finds The Weïrd sisters in order to have
his faith predicted once again. Here, since we are outside, the colours are cold and the weather is
foggy. Later when Macduff s soldiers walk in, the fog turns black and the colours red toned. In the
end, the movie is solely monochromatic red, and the film ends with the whole screen gradually turning

3. Political/Philosophical act
Mahmoud Darwish wrote A State of Siege in 2002 as an emotional reaction to the second Intifada. Or
in other words, as a testimony to the tragedies on the political and humanitarian level that his people
have suffered. Darwish considers that it is both a philosophical and political fact that it is necessary to
refuse the status quo and fixity; he even considers it to be the engine for his survival. He refuses to
accept the circumstances given after the second Intifada, and this political act is clear in the complete
book length poem entitled A State of Siege : Because reality is an ongoing text, lovely, white, without

In other words, it is when people use the image to show their approach and attitudes towards life in
their community and in the world. Or as Lakoff and Johnson said in their book concerning this
subject: a culture may be thought of as providing, among other things, a pool of available metaphors
for making sense of reality . The cultural approach of metaphors is what made Mandelblit analyze the
translation of metaphors from a cognitive perspective, which focuses on the cultural beliefs and values
of the source language and of the target language, especially when it is the case between two very
different languages. Arabic and English are languages that are very distinct and on several levels;
especially on the linguistic and cultural level. However, even if both languages are different, the
differences in economic, political and environmental factors among numerous societies may be
completely important, human societies are connected by a similar biological history. The reality in

Point Of View In The Man From Mars By Margaret Atwood
Authors use point of view to send a message. Using different forms of point of view sends different
messages to the reader. By using point of view effectively, authors can invoke different feelings,
emotions, and thoughts in a reader. In The Man from Mars, Margaret Atwood uses the third person
limited point of view to create the feeling of ambiguity seen throughout the short story. This point of
view allows the reader to feel the same sense of mystery, danger, and fear that the main protagonist,
Christine, feels towards the strange man stalking her. Because of the point of view, the story has this
impact. If told from the 1st, 2nd, or 3rd person omniscient point of view, the story would be vastly
different. By using the 3rd person limited point of view in The Man from Mars, Margaret Atwood
allows the reader to feel same sense of mystery that the main character feels while also getting in
touch with Christine s inner thoughts.
In the 1st person point of view the reader sees the story unfold from the perspective of the narrator.
Many novels use this convention such as classics like Catcher in the Rye and Treasure Island. This
point of view allows the reader to sympathize with the narrator/main character and place themselves in
the lives of these characters. Because of this, however, 1st person narration is limited and biased. The
narrator can only know what is taking place around them and even then, the narrator can be
considered unreliable due to being able to change certain

A New World Order For The United States
A New World Order
The 20th century brought with it a plethora of technological advancements that acted as a catalyst for
an important and lasting shift in the United State s perception of its role in the world. Technological
advancement in travel and communication changed the American people s views of the world,
therefore changing the direction of American foreign policy. This shift in foreign policy would
eventually lead the United States into the grips of two horrific wars on the European continent.
However, these wars would provide the necessary environment for the country to establish itself as the
leader of the international system a title it would desperately need tin order to attempt to create a new,
less conflict ridden global order. Though World War I set the stage for the United States to assume a
global leadership role, which then set the stage for a second world war, it is not to say that the United
States ever wanted anything to do with a European war in the first place. I argue that the U. S. failures
to prevent World War I and World War II was due to a series of actions and events beginning at the
turn of the century (a domino effect) that made it impossible to avoid joining either war once they
began.
Samuel Morse s telegraph revolutionized long distance communication, making it possible for near
instant communication, even across such a vast space like the Atlantic Ocean. Equally important as the
telegraph, advancements in the capabilities of the steam

Isotope Anomalies Across The Frasnian Famennian Extinction...
Isotope anomalies across the Frasnian Famennian extinction boundary:
Implications for resolving Late Devonian mysteries
Abstract
The cause of the Late Devonian mass extinction near the Frasnian Famennian boundary remains
uncertain. Anomalies of stable isotope values have been observed at the Frasnian Famennian boundary
commonly, indicating the abrupt changes of environments during the crisis. These changes include
marine anoxia possibly triggered by land plant evolutions, global cooling, and global warming
probably induced by multiple bolide impacts. In this study, the variations of isotope compositions are
summarized to investigate the possible major causes of F F mass extinction.
Introduction
The transition from the Frasnian to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Verzer and others (1998) complied 87Sr/86Sr values during the Devonian. They found that the values
increased from the end of Middle Devonian to Famennian, and a spike of 87Sr/86Sr occurred around
the Frasnian Famennian boundary (Figure 1). Heavy strontium isotope (87Sr) commonly occurs in
continental rocks (Hurley, 1968). Thus, maximum values at the boundary indicate higher intensity of
continental weathering and enhanced delivery of terrestrial influx into marine.
Increased terrestrial influx could have served as nutrients for algae and plankton and stimulated high
bioproductivity at surface water. The oxygen in surface water would have been over consumed by
respiration and decaying of marine organisms, which was thought to trigger marine anoxia (Algeo et
al., 1995). In this process, lighter isotope of carbon was preferentially taken up by aquatic organisms
and therefore removed from the system, producing heavy carbon anomalies (Wang et al., 1996).
Consequently, positive excursions in δ13C values were observed across the F F boundary (Figure 2).
In addition, higher bioproductivity would bring about elevated burial rate of organic carbon (Wang et
al., 1996; Chen et al., 2002)
As reported by Wang and others (1996), the positive δ13C excursions coincide with positive shifts of
δ34S around the F F boundary (Figure 2), providing direct evidence for

Analyzing Maus A Survivor s Tale
Art Spiegelman s Maus II A Survivor s Tale, is a well known graphic novel that depicted the
holocaust. Rewriting a story about the holocaust in the form of a graphic novel or comic as some
might describe it, probably seemed unusual and childish. Comics and graphic novels were seen as
lacking the educational equivalent people would refer to when researching or reading about that
specific point in history. Having a large amount of books relating to the holocaust over the years has
only made it repetitive because we are aware of Auschwitz and its terrible events. Art Spiegelman did
a fantastic job in retelling the story of his father s survival in Auschwitz. He also shows the reader his
unique relationship with his father. Maus not only shares ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Spiegelman helped portray Vladek s experience with diagrams of the camps, crematorium plans, an
actual photo of Vladek and a manual for repairing shoes. By using these visual aids in the novel, it
helped the reader to have a better historical understanding of the context and a face to his father s
name. It also assisted the reader in imagining a setting where this all took place. For example, in
chapter two, page 60 we see the diagram of Vladek explaining to the readers how he fixed boots and
considered himself a shoemaker. Here we can see the quick thinking that he used to get himself out a
situation that could have turned sour for the most part. He used his judgement and resourcefulness to
assist him against the German soldiers and turned himself into an asset for them. On page 61 on the
bottom right corner we see how his talents in repairing shoes also rewarded him with food. On page
64 in the top middle panel, shows us the diagram of what types of things Vladek would save to trade
for food or vodka. He explains to Art that he would save his cigarettes to trade for one portion of day s
bread in order to send it to his mother Anja to keep her alive. Vladek also worked with a number of his
fellow Jews in order to survive. Without the support of each other, very few wouldn t have endured
Auschwitz and the holocaust. In chapter three, page 86 we are shown the Jews packed into a

The Emergency Economic Stabilization Act Of 2008 And...
On October 3, 2008 President George W. Bush signed the Emergency Economic Stabilization Act of
2008, otherwise known as the bailout. The Purpose of this act was defined as to, Provide authority for
the Federal Government to purchase and insure certain types of trouble assets for the purpose of
providing stability to and preventing disruption in the economy and financial system and protecting
taxpayers, to amend the Internal Revenue Code of 1986 to provide incentives for energy production
and conservation, to extend certain expiring provisions, to provide individual income tax relief, and
for other purposes (Emergency Economic Stabilization Act). In my paper I will explain and show the
relationship between the Emergency Economic Stabilization Act of 2008 and subprime lending, the
collapse of the housing market, bundled mortgage securities, liquidity, and the Government s efforts to
bailout the nation s banks.
Subprime lending became prevalent in the early 2000 s when property values were sky rocketing and
many Americans thought they would fulfill their home ownership dreams, by obtaining loans they
may not otherwise qualify for. A subprime loan is a loan offered to an individual who does not qualify
for a loan at the prime rate due to their credit history. Subprime loans have higher interest rates
because of the risk that the lender is taking. During the early 2000 s the housing market was great for
homebuyers, since interest rates where low and property values

Hampton Roads area from before the turn of the 20th century under the operation of several different
railway companies. From the 1920 s to through the 1940 s buses gradually replaced the streetcars.
Extending the Tide to Virginia Beach would improve the overall transportation network. The project
will also help foster the growth of transit oriented development and extending the light rail will also
keep the door open for consideration of future transit expansion. Some of the benefits of the expansion
will include better transportation into the city, and provide a better energy source and better air quality
and an increase in tourist attractions. The Commonwealth of Virginia s Department of Rail Public
Transportation is studying possible extensions to The Tide in several different directions within the

Hampton Roads Transit, the Hampton Roads Transportation Planning Organization, and local cities

Economic Systems In The United States
There are many different economic systems around the world that are tailored to fit the needs of each
and every country. Command Economy, Mixed Economy, Market Economy, Traditional Economy and
Free Enterprise are a few. These systems help round and establish our world today and create our
future.
Command Economy is one of the few types of economic systems that are used worldwide. For this,
the government controls the economy and may even determine what sorts of work individuals do. This
type of economy tends to develop when a country finds itself possessing a large amount of valuable
resources. The government then regulates the resources, usually they will own everything involved in
the industrial process. Some advantages would be that the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Dominican Republic Dictator Rafael Trujillo
Dominican Republic Dictator: Rafael Trujillo
Brief History
When studying the history of the Dominican Republic, one can observe the tensions between different
ethnicities, the several occupations, the many struggles due to military rule, the fights that demanded
independence, and the powerful dictators who left major impact on the country. In fact, according to
political scientist Howard J. Wiarada, the Dominican Republic is just a small representation of Latin
America.
After the brutal revolts against its motherland, Spain, the Dominican Republic finally declared its
independence in 1821. But the independence was shortly lived, because in the following year, Haiti
dominated the country, oppressing the citizens under their rule. Fortunately, the Dominican Republic
was able to declare independence for the second time in 1844, but the country was still not in rest.
After President Pedro Santana was elected, he returned the country to Spanish rule. In effect, the

Essay about On Emotion and Value in David Hume and Max...
On Emotion and Value in David Hume and Max Scheler
ABSTRACT: While some philosophers tend to exclude any significance of emotion for the moral life,
others place them in the center of both the moral life and the theory of value judgment. This paper
presents a confrontation of two classic positions of the second type, namely the position of Hume and
Scheler. The ultimate goal of this confrontation is metatheoretical particularly as it concerns the
analysis of the relations between the idea of emotion and the idea of value in this kind of theory of
value judgment. In conclusion, I point to some important theoretical assumptions which underlie the
positions of both thinkers despite all the other differences between them. In at least ... Show more

Hume on Passion and Value
The relation between passion and value in Hume s philosophy has been repeatedly discussed. (3) In
contrast to some contemporary writers, Hume devoted a lot of effort and space to the theory of passion
before presenting his, based on emotion moral theory, in Book III of the Treatise. (4)
However, as I believe, Hume s philosophy on the whole, contains not one, but two theories of passion.
One of them is a theory of the genesis of passions from pains and pleasures. The second theory, on the
other hand, refers to the group of passions which are after N. Kemp Smith called primary passions;
and I will call it the descriptive theory of passion. The Treatise is dominated almost exclusively by the
theory of genesis but the role of the descriptive theory in Enquiries is more important, and particularly
in those places where Hume argues against hedonism and egoism in his theory of motivation. On the
theory of genesis, passions are produced from pains and pleasures either directly or indirectly which,
as it is well known, leads to Hume s distinction between direct and indirect passions. According to the
descriptive theory, however, the situation is quite different. In their existence, the primary passions do
not depend on pleasures and pains, on the contrary, pains and pleasures are produced by them. There is
an interesting tension between these two theories in Hume s philosophy but this problem cannot be
discussed here.

The Low Water Levels in Lake Bridgeport
Lake Bridgeport was built in 1930 for flood control, water storage and recreation. Tarrant County
owns the land and water that makes the lake. There is a spillway that takes water through the Trinity
River to Eagle Mountain Lake and Lake Worth. This year has been a rough year for Lake Bridgeport
with three digit temperatures and draining water to the other lakes. Since one of the purposes to build
Lake Bridgeport was for storage, The Tarrant County water district approved to let out 20,000 acre
feet of water from Lake Bridgeport to prevent the other lakes to be low. But 2013 is anything but a
normal year. Today, what once was a scenic lake is covered in chest high weeds. Boaters and
fisherman enjoy going to Lake Bridgeport during the summer. But in the summer of 2013 the boat
ramps were unusable so the number of residents going to the lake dropped. There are dead fish
floating to the shoreline as well as many other wildlife animals. The lake tested positive for Zebra
Mussel larva, which is shell like creatures that are very sharp and stick to boats, anchors and docks.
The Mussels are very dangerous for the lake environment, but they also eat bacteria so they could help
the lake water clear up. If no water is drained out of Lake Bridgeport then the residents of Eagle
Mountain Lake and Lake Worth could possibly run out of drinking water.
Problem: The Lake is the place to be on a hot summer day, but how is it supposed to be any fun when
the lake is drying up each day.

The Economic Problem Of The Market Economy
The economic problem faced in the market economy is that there are an unlimited amount of wants
with a scarce amount of resources. They only current solution is to make decisions as the desire of
satisfying all wants is not possible. Economics is the about the allocation of limited resources in the
best possible way in order to satisfy needs (items essential for survival food and shelter) and wants
(not necessities, but provide satisfaction and assist achievement of higher standard of living). In order
to choose where to allocate resources, four fundamental questions must be attempted to be answered:
1. What to produce? 2. How much to produce? 3. How to produce? 4. How to distribute production?
And with the usage of potential answers, opportunity cost (the loss of other alternatives when one
alternative is chosen) occurs with every decision made. Individual consumers, business firms and the
government are faced with the economic problem and must observe choices whilst considering the
opportunity cost of these decisions which makes different economic factors such as individuals,
businesses and the government address this problem in diverse ways. There are four fundamental
questions, which assist addressing the economic problem when businesses need to prepare to produce
goods and services: 1. What to produce? 2. How much to produce? 3. How to produce? 4. How to
distribute production? Question one simply means that because of limited resources and unlimited

Happiness In The Alchemist
By following your dreams is it possible to achieve great happiness? As the famous Dalai Lama would
say, Happiness is not something ready made. It comes from your actions. This quote supports the
statement of by following your dreams it is in fact possible to achieve great happiness. The Alchemist,
by Paulo Coelho tells the story of a boy named Santiago and how he embarks on a journey in order to
find his treasure. This journey started with a dream that he had in which a little boy took him to the
pyramids in Egypt and told him that there is treasure waiting there for him. He later chooses to go

believe in, something to aim for. That itself is providing happiness because he has something to keep
him going and keep him wanting to continue his dream. It s not the dream come true that makes life

the destination, however without a destination (your dream) the journey is without direction and loses

Book Reports On The Alchemist
Between the summer reading choice and novel synopses, The Alchemist was most interesting to me,
but I didn t know what the alchemist was. So I researched on it before I read this book. The alchemist
is a person who studies how to transfer metal into gold, so I thought, according to the subject the story
would be about a journey of studying how to transfer lead into gold. But my prediction was
completely wrong until now. Transforming lead into gold takes just a few parts of the story. The main
character, Santiago is a shepherd who is well educated. He is well educated because he was preparing
for a prestige. I didn t get why Santiago wants to be a shepherd. The shepherd was a humble career,
and prestige was a good career. Shepherds were mostly not educated. The merchant s daughter asked
him how did you learn to read. From that question, I learned that Shepherd is not educated. The only
good thing about Shepherd is traveling. Just because of the dream, it is not right to change career. If I
was Santiago, I would just keep preparing prestige. The dream is a quiet appealing to one s taste, but

can be built. The final part of the paper is dedicated to recommendations and conclusion.
Dilemma/ Struggle of Established Firms
The idea of implementing radical/ disruptive innovation in mature firms is discussed in the article of
Richard Leifer; Gina Colarelli O Connor and Mark Rice, Implementing radical innovation in mature
firms revealing the fact that there is increasing evidence of breakthrough innovation in the competitive
marketplace today, but there is uncertainty on whether it is worth risk taking today?!
And especially large established firms face this dilemma; they have grown excellent at managing
operational efficiencies and building customer loyalty. But will they be able to take wise decision
when it comes to radical innovations and face the chaos associated with commercialization of
breakthroughs. Subsequently, some companies actually made it possible, for example IBM, with a

Outline and evaluate Bruce and Young s theory of face...
The face recognition model developed by Bruce and Young has eight key parts and it suggests how we
process familiar and unfamiliar faces, including facial expressions. The diagram below shows how
these parts are interconnected. Structural encoding is where facial features and expressions are
encoded. This information is translated at the same time, down two different pathways, to various
units. One being expression analysis, where the emotional state of the person is shown by facial
features. By using facial speech analysis we can process auditory information. This was shown by
McGurk (1976) who created two video clips, one with lip movements indicating Ba and other
indicating Fa . Both clips had the sound Ba played over the clip. ... Show more content on

It is also unclear if it is the brain injury itself that causes the result and if it is the same for healthy
people.
There was a study done by Young, Hay, and Ellis (1985) that uses people with no medical issues. They
asked people to keep a diary record of problems they experienced in face recognition. They found
people never reported putting a name to a face while knowing nothing else about that person. This
supports the model as it suggests that we cannot think of a person s name unless we know other
contextual information about them.
Prosopagnosia is a condition where a person cannot recognise familiar faces, but only the features, not
the whole face. The condition contradicts the model as it suggests that the process are most likely not
separate. As most patients had severe problems with facial expression as well as facial identity, this
suggests they are processed separately. The model can also be seen as reductionist, as it only gives a
vague description of what the cognitive system does. However, there is research that does support the
concept that there are two are separate paths for processing face recognition and facial expression.
One being Humphreys, Avidan, and Behrmann (2007) who studied three participants with
developmental prosopagnosia. All three had poor ability to recognise faces, but their ability to
recognise facial expressions was similar to that of healthy

Summary Of Presidential Power By Richard Neustadt
In the excerpt Presidential Power, Richard Neustadt argues that ability to persuade, lead, and bargain
is the sources of presidential power. He wrote, His strength or weakness, then, turns on his personal
capacity to influence the conduct of men who make up the government. His influence becomes the
mark of his leadership... Presidential ...means nothing but the president. Power means his influence.
The president s ability to lead people means that people give him/her power. Neustadt recognizes how,
in form, all presidents are leaders, nowadays, explaining how many other people or entities seek
guidance and leadership, and that the president, as the Great Initiator is the most suited person to
deliver it. Yet, Neustadt argues that this

The Green Children Of Woolpit
The Green Children of Woolpit is a twelfth century mystery that has been around for centuries. Many
people have speculated and formed theories on where these children had come from. No theory has
been proven true, but the theories range from malnutrition to something such as extraterrestrial
visitors. This strange phenomenon can be explained. These children that visited England, are aliens
from a different world. The evidence that the children give the people from England describes a land
that is not on planet Earth. The Green Children of Woolpit is a twelfth century mystery that started in
Suffolk, England. During this time, this area was the most agriculturally productive in all of rural
England. The village of Suffolk had belonged to the powerful Abbey of Bury St. Edmunds. In Suffolk,
two green skinned children were found at the mouth of an old wolf pit where the final wolf had been
rumored to perish. The two children were found by reapers working at a nearby farm. They spoke in
an unfamiliar language and wore strange clothing that was unknown to the people of England. The
children were soon accepted into the household Sir Richard de Caine at Wilks. After a while both
children became ill and things looked bleak for the both of the strange children. The boy had
eventually passed, while the girl soon miraculously recovered. The girl s skin even turned back to a
normal color. After the boy s passing, the girl took lessons and learned to speak English. She learned

Dante’s Inferno in Milton´s Paradise Lost
Many arguments have been made that Dante s Inferno glimmers through here and there in Milton s
Paradise Lost. While at first glance the two poems seem quite drastically different in their portrayal of
Hell, but scholars have made arguments that influence from Dante shines through Milton s work as
well as arguments refuting these claims. All of these arguments have their own merit and while there
are instances where a Dantean influence can be seen throughout Paradise Lost, Milton s progression of
evil and Satan are quite different from Dante. Dante s influence on Milton is noted by many scholars
and is very apparent in several instances throughout Paradise Lost, however, Milton shows a
progression of evil through his own vision of Satan and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In his article, he discusses many of the authors previously mentioned such as Samuel, Hollander, and
Gurteen, and develops his own ideas about Milton s use of Dante s form of punishments. He makes
note of the fact that when Satan returns to Hell after successfully tempting Eve...he hears a universal
hiss as he and his crew transform into serpents which is clearly an allusion to that which the thieves
undergo in Cantos 24 and 25 of Dante s Inferno.
Other scholars agree that there is some flicker of Dante through Paradise Lost but argue that, although
there are instances where it seems clear of the influence, Milton and Dante s versions of Hell and
Satan are quite different.
In S. Humphreys Gurteen The Epic of The Fall of Man: A Comparative Study of Caedmon, Dante and
Milton he says, the influence of Dante s strong imagination, however, is evident throughout Paradise
Lost. It is not plagiarism, it is not imitation, it is the effect that must necessarily follow from the
contact of one powerful imagination, strong intellect, and deeply erudite mind, on that of another, in
many respects, his equal. (Gurteen, 383) While he explores

The Matter And Procedure At 3 Pemberton Square

On Friday, September 23, 2016, I visited the Suffolk Superior Courthouse located at 3 Pemberton
Square in Boston. The judge is Hon. Heide Brieger.
The case was about a woman, Meaghan Fitzpatrick, suing Wendy s, JBM Souderton (Wendy s meat
supplier), and Willow Run Foods. She claimed that there were bones in a burger she bought from
Wendy s, which caused her having to go through multiple oral surgeries, pain, and years of
psychological discomfort.
The case continued from Thursday and started with the defendant s attorney, Christopher Duggan,
questioning the witness for Wendy s, a middle age man who works at JBM as a manager. The witness
testified about the meat making process in JBM, and was then cross examined by the plaintiff s
attorney, Matthew Fogelman. Mr. Fogelman then called the plaintiff, Meaghan Fitzpatrick, to the
witness stand. She testified about what happened after she bite the burger and what she had go through
afterwards. The trial then proceeded to closing statements.
The Witnesses
The defendant s witness was a JBM manager with decades of experience in the industry. He testified
that the process of meat making in JBM is extremely rigorous with multiple level of inspection and
above standard equipment. He showed the jury the entire beef making process by drawing on a board.
The lawyer has also submitted the final grind as an exhibit to prove that any bone bigger than a certain

The Position of Women in Pakistan
What steps should be taken to improve the role of minorities women in Pakistan s economy
No nation can rise to the height of glory unless your women are side by side with you. We are victims
of evil customs. It is a crime against humanity that our women are shut up within the four walls of the
houses as prisoners. There is no sanction anywhere for the deplorable condition in which our women
have to live.
― Muhammad Ali Jinnah
Introduction:
The appearance of women in country s evolution and pace of their growth is simply cannot be
neglected but the truth remains that their stature is not being positively bestowed in Pakistan until
now.
As we know, that Pakistan is an underprivileged country and still contending for economic
immobility, safety, education and health commitments for its people. There are endless problems of
exploitation and unfairness in almost every face of life. Unluckily, its judgement for graft is seventh in
the world. Women are one of the most defenseless groups that we directly cannot discount
The important aspects that supremacy women of Pakistan towards prostrate dignity, there are many
perception and details that provide a means to it. For instance:
 They dint bear equal stature at birth; baby boys are consistently desired and greeted into a moderate
family of Pakistan.
 Girls are not considered as dynamic and self assured human beings who can earn a creditable
earning and can live in regard to their own best.
 In educating

Reflection Of Art
Art is all around the world and everywhere we go and has been since the beginning of time. Most of
the early artworks was visual arts, such as paintings, sculptures, printmaking and many other things.
The purpose of art is the creative way to express our emotions to empower or inspire people, or it
could bring out different emotions within ourselves, depending on how you look at it. Many of the art
pieces have a story to tell or it can express the state of mind and feeling of the artist when the art was
produced. Art is here today and will be tomorrow as well because art is now a part of our society. For
my three pieces of artworks to write about, I chose an artist that has many art pieces in many galleries.
His style is absolutely creative and different. Nothing like I ve ever since before. The first painting I
observed is by an artist who has been a street artist since 1985, Gary John. He grew up in Seattle but
moved to Venice, California in 2003 and began selling his art pieces on the boardwalk. One art piece
of his that I found interesting is 31st street in 3 D , 2015. The 41 x 29 inch art is drawn on a paper of
what looks like an architectural plan. John drew a big 3 D, old school television with an antenna right
in the center of it with black paint. On the left side of it, he drew with red paint, repetition of circles
and lines with an arrow on the top. With the same red paint, he drew a simplified outline of a house.

The Biological Significance Of The Properties Of Water Essay
The Biological Significance Of The Properties Of Water
The human body 15% lipids, 12% proteins but by far the biggest % is water which makes up a
massive 70% of the human body. This is the equivalent of 49kg in an average male adult human of
mass 70kg. This is a good indication of just how important water is in the human life. Without water
we would not be able to life and Earth is therefore the only planet in this galaxy with life as we know
it except for Mars where ice has been discovered so water may have been present once.
Water is a polar molecule, meaning that it has a positive and a negative pole. This is due to the fact
that the water is an oxygen atom covalently bonded to 2 separate ... Show more content on

It is this cohesion that allows water to travel up tree trunks to the highest branches on trees, if the
cohesion was weaker the water would simply flow back down the xylem vessels due to gravity,
therefore without this property of water tall trees and plants would die.
This cohesion of the water creates a surface tension on the surface of water in for example, a pond. In
a pond small insects such as pond skaters which are relatively dense can float on the water and live on
the surface of the water. Without the tension such organisms would have no habitat and would die.
Water also acts as a good temperature buffer to stabilise experiments within cells. Due to the hydrogen
bonds produced bonds between the water molecules water is given the following properties relating to
heat and temperature :
1. Relatively high heat capacity
2. Relatively large latent heat of vaporisation
3. Relatively large latent heat of fusion
These three properties are very similar and basically mean that a relatively large amount of energy
required to change the temperature or state of water. The specific heat capacity of water is 4184J/kg,
over 40 times that of sodium chloride. This means that a lot of energy is required to change the
temperature of water and it is that fact that makes this property very useful in enzyme action. Enzymes

Missing in action (MIA) is a casualty classification assigned to armed services personnel and other
combatants who are reported missing during wartime. They may have been killed, wounded, become a

because most army personnel in countries were not routinely issued with ID tags. As a result, if
someone was killed in action and his or her body was not recovered until much later, there was little or
no chance of identifying the remains. Around the First World War ID tags were then made as source of
identification, some were made of aluminum. Although wearing ID tags proved to be highly

II. Government Policy Before the War
President John F. Kennedy s started off the Vietnam War by sending over 2,000 military advisers to
South Vietnam in 1961 to mark the beginning of twelve years of American military combat. U.S. unit
combat began in 1965. The number of US. Troops steadily increased until it reached a peak of
543,400 in April 1969. The total number of Americans who served in South Vietnam was 2.7 million.
Of these, more than 58,000 died or remain missing, and 300,000 others were wounded. The US.
Government spent more than $140 billion on the war. Sadly on November, 22nd, 1963 he was
assassinated. Lyndon Baines Johnson stepped into office as the 36th President of the United States. On
July, 20th, 1954, In Indochina there was conference that produced a set of documents known as the
Geneva Accords. These agreements temporarily separated Vietnam into two zones, a northern zone to
be governed by the Viet Minh, and a southern zone to be governed by the State of Vietnam.
III. The United States Involvement with the Vietnam War
The role of the US was minimal during the Second World War then progressed into full commitment
in the Vietnam War. In 1950, the U.S. government established a Military Assistance and Advisory

Chris Servheen, the Grizzly Bear Recovery Coordinator for the US Fish and Wildlife Service, has said
that the grizzly bears have met every criteria set forth towards their recovery plan. Since meeting these
criteria, it may be time to have them removed from the Endangered Species List (delisted). Delisting
means that the bears won t be protected by the Endangered Species Act (ESA). As it can be seen from
the grizzly delisting public comments that I agreed with, I am against having the grizzlies delisted.

More importantly, the long term health of the grizzlies can be assured by maintaining a population
number of a several thousand. This include expanding their potential living area and connecting the

importation of bears to address genetic problems. It requires the importation of two bears every ten
years into the Greater Yellowstone Ecosystem to address genetic problem. Importing these bears into
the ecosystem is not likely to provide necessary gene flow due to the low success of transplants in
habitat that is already occupied. Also, the delisting plans does not seem to consider the degree and the
pace of habitat change occurring in the region. For example, there is a current loss for whitebark pine

There has been an overwhelming discussion about influence made on Vladimir Putin s worldwide and

The First Form Of English Language
Editor Doug Larson once remarked, If the English language made any sense, lackadaisical would have
something to do with a shortage of flowers. Even at an early stage, all English learners realize how
complex and versatile the English language can be. Due to its extensive lineage and consistent
reformation, the English language holds a highly diversified panorama of linguistic landscape. Dating
back as early as 410 A.D., the fall of the Roman empire, neighboring countries and tribes vigorously
fought for the rule of England (Literature). In the act, they transformed human interaction and left
imprints of influence not only in monarchy or social paradigms, but in linguistic advancements as
well. The English language has been a hybridized substance molded in the hands of war, exploration,
and cultural innovation. The first form of English was developed during the Anglo Saxon period
which was initiated by the arrival of the Jutes, Saxons, and Angles to England around 449 A.D. The
mixture of the inhabitants Celtic and Latin based dialects in addition to the languages of the three
Germanic tribes, created what is now known as Old English (History). As the Anglo Saxons were
slowly converted to Christians, the number of written religious texts also increased which caused a
linguistic and cultural impact (Durkin). Philip Durkin stated that the impress of the literary culture of
Latin Christianity was one of the primary reasons why researchers were able to

What It Is For The Anthropology Of Religion
In 1966 Geertz described religion as (1) a system of symbols which acts to (2) establish powerful,
pervasive, and long lasting moods and motivations in men by (3) formulating conceptions of general
order of existence and (4) clothing these conceptions with such an aura of faculty that (5) the moods
and motivations seem uniquely realistic (Geertz, 1966 :4), a quote which Asad refers to as perhaps the
most influential, certainly the most accomplished, anthropological definition of religion to have
appeared in the last two decades (Asad, 1983 :237). In this essay I intend to briefly outline what it is
Geertz aims to achieve with his approach, concentrating mainly on his focus on symbols and
identifying the contributions this idea has given to the anthropology of religion. I will also touch upon
the similarities and differences between Geertz s (1966) definition and that of Asad (1983).
Geertz s describes his definition of religion as a universal one but geared to focus on the particular;
one that can be applied to all religions, and once identified as a religion we can distinguish a
separation between religion and other entities i.e. politics, therefore allowing us to discuss the
relationship which intertwines them. Geertz describes culture as a system of inherited conceptions
expressed in symbolic forms by means of which men communicate, perpetuate, and develop their
knowledge about and attitudes toward life (Geertz, 1966 :3), thus the ways of which we understand

Stereotypes In Lap Dance
In mainstream media and film, strippers are given a very narrow representation when they re even
included in a storyline at all: The women and men who make up the sex industry tend to be painted
with a broad brush, being portrayed as morally corrupt. It s implied that they either joined the industry
because of their negative traits, or that those traits were developed during their time working in it. This
harmful stereotype is pretty consistently perpetuated, and done so through both male and female
characters. The film being used here to provide a few examples of this stereotype is Lap Dance (Greg
Carter), a 2014 film about a woman who begins working as an exotic dancer to supplement her
income. When the main character Monica is first introduced in the film, she learns her father has
cancer. Soon after, the doctor informs Monica and her fiancé Kevin that insurance is no longer

Yet, homework does have an advantage, it can build good study habits and grades. Homework helps
boost test scores tremendously. Since it s a practice assignment, students get a view of what they ll be

can fully understand their new lesson when provided with homework. Everyone knows that by
practicing something, they can get better at it. This is the same idea with homework, students practice,
and eventually get pleasing grades. Although all grade levels can benefit from homework, it is really
beneficial to high schoolers. If a country like the U.S were to decrease the amount of homework
assigned to high school students, test scores would likely decrease unless additional supports were
added (O, Furniture). Unlike other countries, homework is a major part to lead to success. This proves
that students, especially high school ones, need homework to achieve the desirable scores they want.
Homework is also a great way to study for a test. Beyond achievement, proponents of
homework...claim it can help students develop good study habits so they are ready to grow as their
cognitive capacities mature (Cooper). Studying is a huge part in getting a pleasing grade in the

informal and underground economy by Richardson, C. and Pisani, M. are covered to demonstrate the
unique economy the Rio Grande has. Poverty rates at a national and local level are compared. Studies
by Richardson, C. and Pagan, J. are used for their statistical information regarding unemployment in
the Rio Grande Valley from the years 2000 until today. Counterarguments regarding positive effects in
the Rio Grande are considered. Conclusion reached is that immigration in the Rio Grande Valley does
have a negative effect, although it is needed, to a certain point in employment and economy; however
a positive impact has been experienced in education.
How Mexico s Violence Affects the RGV Mexico is a country where the economy has been low for
years, and the violence has been high causing their people to seek jobs, and safety elsewhere.
Immigration from Mexico to the United States has always taken place. Mexicans cross the border,
either legally or illegally, in search of the American dream. However, since the war against the drug
cartels started, back in the year 2000 or so, job opportunities in Mexico keep decreasing, and families
struggle to bring food to their tables.

Shocked, Lila and Sam realize that the only way to find out the truth is to go to the motel themselves.
Posing as a married couple, Sam and Lila check into the motel and search Marion s room, where they
find a scrap of paper stuck in the toilet with $40,000 written on it. While Sam distracts Norman, Lila
sneaks into the house. Sam suggests to Norman that he killed Marion for the money so he could buy a
new motel. Realizing Lila is not around, Norman knocks Sam unconscious and rushes to the house.
Lila sees him approaching and hides in the cellar where she discovers a woman sitting in a rocking
chair with her back to her. She calls to the old woman and discovers that it is in fact a mummified
corpse. Seconds later, Norman rushes in wearing his mother s clothes and a wig and brandishing a
knife. He tries to attack Lila, but Sam subdues him just in time. After Norman s arrest, a forensic
psychiatrist tells Sam and Lila that Norman s dead mother is living in Norman s psyche as an alternate
personality. After the death of Norman s father, the pair lived as if they were the only people in the
world. When his mother found a lover, Norman went insane with jealousy and murdered them both.
Consumed with guilt, Norman erased the crime by bringing his mother back to life in his own mind.
He stole her corpse and preserved the body. When he

The concept that national culture turns the populations behaviour of distinct national states (territories)

Gender And Optical Illusions
Introduction Paragraph
In my science fair project I tested whether gender matter in the way people see optical illusions. I
tested this because it sounded fascinating, and also interesting. Optical Illusions now in day, it s used
in many ways. They can be used as a way to trick people, to learn about sensory perception, and to
learn about how the brain perceives lighter values and dark values.
Research Summary
Optical illusions fool our brains by taking shortcuts, because the brain can t take everything at once.
Our brain is able to perceive lighter values more quickly than dark values. Our sense of light and dark
becomes unreliable during this.
Cognitive Illusions have four different categories of illusions which are Distorting, ambiguous, ...

Other people were not at school because they were sick, which caused me to find other people to do it
instead of the ones I had planned to do it with. Also, sometimes the place I was going to use had
people in it, which caused me to look for another place and sometimes to postpone. And I learned that
putting 5 people in a room is not the best way to do the optical illusions, because some people talk to
each other even though they are not allowed to. If I did this experiment again, I would fix every single

Porgy And Bess Sparknotes
Porgy and Bess is a play written by three Caucasian men. The play was written in the 1920s 1930s.
Around this time racism was strong as ever. White people already didn t think much of us. It took
place in a small town in South Carolina called Catfish Row. The apartments sat close to a beach.
Throughout the play, there was plenty of ways that portrayed African American in a negative way.
Porgy and Bess is the epitome of how Caucasians thought of African Americans and the way we live.
Throughout my paper I m going to express how white people judged African Americans, Where did
Porgy and Bess come from, and The names of the characters and how degrading the authors are
making African Americans out to be. The names of the characters go a long way. Some of their names
have meaning to them, the meaning of their names are literally the role they play. And the time the
play was written.
Gershwin labeled the play as a folk opera. It was written in the year of 1935 by a Jewish man. Which
makes it interesting to study the kind of impact it had on the African Americans at that time. Gershwin
had the African

Yoga Research Papers
Yoga
San Francisco State University
First thoughts that come into my head when I think about yoga are body flexibility, body movements
and relaxation. Though yoga is more than that, it has deeper connections to the mind body. Connecting
with the mind body is a great communication to have because knowing what our bodies feel helps us
figure out if we are tired, hungry, or hurting. Finding the connection between the mind and body is one
of the best breathtaking moments. This being said, there are plenty of benefits that yoga has to offer.
For example, yoga helps us with balancing a healthy lifestyle, because we become aware of the
outcomes from practicing yoga. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
There are quite a few different yoga posses and each one has a benefit towards the mind body
connection. As of 2011, 1,300 poses had been described and 200 had been video graphed (Rockwood,
Media, 2009). As a beginner it can be tough to perform some poses since there are different ones with
different names. Also, it may be challenging to do complete certain poses if we are not familiar with
how to precede a pose. For example, when I first tried yoga I had no clue what was going on or how to
remain in a certain position. Though not being familiar with the different poses that were being
practice during my first yoga class, helped me relax my body and tension that I was holding on. In a
way that I was able to listen to the teacher and just be mindful. Yoga poses have been catalogued since
before written history. Depictions of yoga poses were found engraved on soapstone seals in the ruins
of the cities of Mohenjo Daro and Harappa, which flourished at least 5,000 years ago in the Indus
River Valley (Rockwood, Media, 2009). Yoga poses have been around for a while and they are being
practice in today s life style. Seems to be famous since many people from different ages are studying
and practicing it. For example, college students may practice yoga to help reduce stress since
balancing schoolwork and personal life might cause stress. Yoga can be practice at any age single

Use of Force
Use of Force One night, a small town patrol officer stops a car driven by two teenagers. The officer
believes that one of them might be responsible for a string of recent burglaries. The teens are
questioned, and the officer becomes angry at their responses. Over the objections of the teenagers,
both teens are pulled out of the car and shoved around a little. They are both told that they are under
arrest and the officer begins to place handcuffs on them. Both fight back and both are beaten badly
(Bruno, 2010). The question is what legal recourse is available to the families of the teens if any? Let
me first start by discussing the use of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Now that I have discussed the use of force and whether it is excessive or not I will begin to answer the
original question posed. Does the family of the teens have any legal recourse available to them, and if
so what is available to them? The answer to this is yes the families definitely have legal recourse
available to them for a number of reasons. The first mistake the officers made was pulling over the
teens because they thought they might have been involved in a recent string of burglaries. That right
there is a violation of the teens Fourth Amendment to have probable cause to stop them in the first
place. Police officers have to have probable cause or more than a hunch to pull someone over. The
scenario said nothing about the car was pulled over because maybe a witness saw the car leaving the
scene of the crime, or maybe the officer had a description of the suspect and they matched it, he just
thought they might be involved. Secondly, they did question the teens and because of their responses
the officer becomes angry and pulls the teens out of the car. The officer had no right to pull the teens
out of the car because of what they said.

  • 2. The Influence Of The Mass Media In The Media Mass media has a huge influence on communities across America. There are numerous mass media platforms like the internet, tv, magazines, and radio. Through the use of this platforms, messages are able to be given to the public at a huge and rapid rate. Information can at times, however, be misleading. Due to the fact that the media has a huge influence on the views of people, it is often used as a way to deteriorate the image of a certain group or individual, underrepresenting them in the entertainment business. In the 1950 s African Americans were underrepresented in the media, accounting for 6% of tv characters. Their numbers increased to 16% in the 1980 s (Rodriguez 13). That, however, has not been the case for the Hispanic/ Latino community. The Hispanic / Latino community are underrepresented in the mass media, being portrayed negatively in their moments in the media. This research began on November November 7, 2017. Online databases and books were all acquired through the Augsburg University Library. I looked for peer reviewed sources in order to make my research as credible as possible. The population interest were Latinos and the media during after the 1950 s. The process began by reading all sources and identifying the most relevant information to my topic. As information was gathered, some of the sources that were of little to no use were taken out of the research. When going through the information gathering while reading, there was a lot of focus given on the data and its analysis done by the researchers. Once information was gathered on one source, I would move onto the next. To organize the information gathered, it was classified by focus. In example, if in two sources news coverage was the topic, they would be grouped together. Once the information was organized and sorted out, the information was compared and analysed. Than it would be put into the actual research paper. The research done gives a general representation of the representation of Latinos on the media. In some states, this would not apply as they have local Latino tv channels, ran by the community itself. Some of this information was included in the research itself. Latinos have always been underrepresented in the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Persuasive Essay On LGBT Olabode Adimula LLA 201 Essay Assignment #2 The LGBT community in the United States has always had massive difficulty fitting into our society. For many years they put up with constant mistreatment and other forms of abuse coming from the those who do not agree with their lifestyle. They have for long advocated for the acceptance of their existence and punishment for crimes committed against them. One of the hardest battles the community has had to face was the right to marry in a society that still holds the values of a traditional relationship which is between a male and female. The struggle was quite harsh but it all paid off by 2015 when the supreme court granted gay couples the right to marry. This historical decision did not go without outcry and criticisms. Most of the dissatisfaction came from those who hold very religious values and beliefs that claims homosexuality is a sin. Religion has always been a part of the American way of life since the nation s founding and with that homosexuality has been demonized throughout our society. Now that gay couple possess the legal rights to have a marriage license, religious companies and/or stores are now denying service to LGBT couples as they believe it sinful on their behalf to even take part. Many people gay or straight who fought for gay rights believe these is pure discrimination and that stores should not have the right to deny service for any customer for any reason. However, this belief is unconstitutional and goes ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

As a result, a lot of information from these outpatient settings tends to go unreported therefore affecting the accuracy of any research that would be based on this information. For this reason I would not recommend this as an effective skin cancer prevention strategy. While the strategies mentioned in this section can still be used to prevent skin cancer, they have some defects that prevent them from being the main prevention strategies. Some of them are as a result of them having a short term benefit but long term disadvantage such as the Resurfacing Procedures while other like funding more research do not guarantee effectiveness to prevent skin cancer. Through this strategy, children acquire important knowledge and vital skill on the dangers of exposing their skin to ultraviolet radiations from the sun and some of the ways they avoid these radiations. The idea informing this strategy is so as to provide awareness as well as education about skin cancer from very young age so that children can acquire the right habits right from an early age. This strategy is a high priority because according to medical studies protection from the sun s ultraviolet radiation is usually very important in childhood because sunburns that have been developed early during the life time of a person can often lead to the emergence of skin cancer their adulthood. It is estimated that approximately 80% of the sun damage on the skin a person during their lifetime usually happens during their childhood. An example of where this skin cancer preventive strategy was applied was in The SunWise School National Program took place between1999 to 2000 and it targeted a school setting of primary and secondary school levels and the target population was K 8 graduate students (Geller AC, Cantor M, Miller DR, et al(2002). • 5. Supernatural Elements In Macbeth It is not often that Shakespeare coming alive on the big screen makes it any better, but Justin Kurzel managed in Macbeth (2015) to both be true to the classic and contribute with his own modern twist, both technically and plotwise. Shakespeare can be interpreted in many different ways. Justin Krezel has chosen a very modern interpretation, which tries to make Macbeth s actions more clearly understood by the viewer, by introducing the idea of Macbeth having post traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), as a product of many wars and a lost child. The story is about the tragic hero Macbeth who succumbs to his ambition and desire. The plot is initiated when he faces the Weïrd sisters prophesies that he will become king of Scotland. Political/Philosophical act Mahmoud Darwish wrote A State of Siege in 2002 as an emotional reaction to the second Intifada. Or in other words, as a testimony to the tragedies on the political and humanitarian level that his people have suffered. Darwish considers that it is both a philosophical and political fact that it is necessary to refuse the status quo and fixity; he even considers it to be the engine for his survival. • 7. Point Of View In The Man From Mars By Margaret Atwood Authors use point of view to send a message. Using different forms of point of view sends different messages to the reader. By using point of view effectively, authors can invoke different feelings, emotions, and thoughts in a reader. In The Man from Mars, Margaret Atwood uses the third person limited point of view to create the feeling of ambiguity seen throughout the short story. This point of view allows the reader to feel the same sense of mystery, danger, and fear that the main protagonist, Christine, feels towards the strange man stalking her. Because of the point of view, the story has this impact. If told from the 1st, 2nd, or 3rd person omniscient point of view, the story would be vastly different. By using the 3rd person limited point of view in The Man from Mars, Margaret Atwood allows the reader to feel same sense of mystery that the main character feels while also getting in touch with Christine s inner thoughts. In the 1st person point of view the reader sees the story unfold from the perspective of the narrator. Many novels use this convention such as classics like Catcher in the Rye and Treasure Island. This point of view allows the reader to sympathize with the narrator/main character and place themselves in the lives of these characters. Because of this, however, 1st person narration is limited and biased. The narrator can only know what is taking place around them and even then, the narrator can be considered unreliable due to being able to change certain ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 8. A New World Order For The United States A New World Order The 20th century brought with it a plethora of technological advancements that acted as a catalyst for an important and lasting shift in the United State s perception of its role in the world. Technological advancement in travel and communication changed the American people s views of the world, therefore changing the direction of American foreign policy. This shift in foreign policy would eventually lead the United States into the grips of two horrific wars on the European continent. However, these wars would provide the necessary environment for the country to establish itself as the leader of the international system a title it would desperately need tin order to attempt to create a new, less conflict ridden global order. Though World War I set the stage for the United States to assume a global leadership role, which then set the stage for a second world war, it is not to say that the United States ever wanted anything to do with a European war in the first place. I argue that the U. S. failures to prevent World War I and World War II was due to a series of actions and events beginning at the turn of the century (a domino effect) that made it impossible to avoid joining either war once they began. Samuel Morse s telegraph revolutionized long distance communication, making it possible for near instant communication, even across such a vast space like the Atlantic Ocean. Isotope anomalies across the Frasnian Famennian extinction boundary: Implications for resolving Late Devonian mysteries Abstract The cause of the Late Devonian mass extinction near the Frasnian Famennian boundary remains uncertain. Anomalies of stable isotope values have been observed at the Frasnian Famennian boundary commonly, indicating the abrupt changes of environments during the crisis. These changes include marine anoxia possibly triggered by land plant evolutions, global cooling, and global warming probably induced by multiple bolide impacts. In this study, the variations of isotope compositions are summarized to investigate the possible major causes of F F mass extinction. Introduction The transition from the Frasnian to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Verzer and others (1998) complied 87Sr/86Sr values during the Devonian. They found that the values increased from the end of Middle Devonian to Famennian, and a spike of 87Sr/86Sr occurred around the Frasnian Famennian boundary (Figure 1). Heavy strontium isotope (87Sr) commonly occurs in continental rocks (Hurley, 1968). Thus, maximum values at the boundary indicate higher intensity of continental weathering and enhanced delivery of terrestrial influx into marine. Increased terrestrial influx could have served as nutrients for algae and plankton and stimulated high bioproductivity at surface water. The oxygen in surface water would have been over consumed by respiration and decaying of marine organisms, which was thought to trigger marine anoxia (Algeo et al., 1995). In this process, lighter isotope of carbon was preferentially taken up by aquatic organisms and therefore removed from the system, producing heavy carbon anomalies (Wang et al., 1996). Consequently, positive excursions in δ13C values were observed across the F F boundary (Figure 2). In addition, higher bioproductivity would bring about elevated burial rate of organic carbon (Wang et al., 1996; Chen et al., 2002) As reported by Wang and others (1996), the positive δ13C excursions coincide with positive shifts of δ34S around the F F boundary (Figure 2), providing direct evidence for ... Rewriting a story about the holocaust in the form of a graphic novel or comic as some might describe it, probably seemed unusual and childish. Comics and graphic novels were seen as lacking the educational equivalent people would refer to when researching or reading about that specific point in history. Having a large amount of books relating to the holocaust over the years has only made it repetitive because we are aware of Auschwitz and its terrible events. It also assisted the reader in imagining a setting where this all took place. For example, in chapter two, page 60 we see the diagram of Vladek explaining to the readers how he fixed boots and considered himself a shoemaker. Here we can see the quick thinking that he used to get himself out a situation that could have turned sour for the most part. The Purpose of this act was defined as to, Provide authority for the Federal Government to purchase and insure certain types of trouble assets for the purpose of providing stability to and preventing disruption in the economy and financial system and protecting taxpayers, to amend the Internal Revenue Code of 1986 to provide incentives for energy production and conservation, to extend certain expiring provisions, to provide individual income tax relief, and for other purposes (Emergency Economic Stabilization Act). In my paper I will explain and show the relationship between the Emergency Economic Stabilization Act of 2008 and subprime lending, the collapse of the housing market, bundled mortgage securities, liquidity, and the Government s efforts to bailout the nation s banks. Subprime lending became prevalent in the early 2000 s when property values were sky rocketing and many Americans thought they would fulfill their home ownership dreams, by obtaining loans they may not otherwise qualify for. A subprime loan is a loan offered to an individual who does not qualify for a loan at the prime rate due to their credit history. Subprime loans have higher interest rates because of the risk that the lender is taking. During the early 2000 s the housing market was great for homebuyers, since interest rates where low and property values ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Dominican Republic Dictator Rafael Trujillo Dominican Republic Dictator: Rafael Trujillo Brief History When studying the history of the Dominican Republic, one can observe the tensions between different ethnicities, the several occupations, the many struggles due to military rule, the fights that demanded independence, and the powerful dictators who left major impact on the country. In fact, according to political scientist Howard J. Wiarada, the Dominican Republic is just a small representation of Latin America. After the brutal revolts against its motherland, Spain, the Dominican Republic finally declared its independence in 1821. But the independence was shortly lived, because in the following year, Haiti dominated the country, oppressing the citizens under their rule. On Emotion and Value in David Hume and Max Scheler ABSTRACT: While some philosophers tend to exclude any significance of emotion for the moral life, others place them in the center of both the moral life and the theory of value judgment. This paper presents a confrontation of two classic positions of the second type, namely the position of Hume and Scheler. The ultimate goal of this confrontation is metatheoretical particularly as it concerns the analysis of the relations between the idea of emotion and the idea of value in this kind of theory of value judgment. In conclusion, I point to some important theoretical assumptions which underlie the positions of both thinkers despite all the other differences between them. In at least ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Hume on Passion and Value The relation between passion and value in Hume s philosophy has been repeatedly discussed. (3) In contrast to some contemporary writers, Hume devoted a lot of effort and space to the theory of passion before presenting his, based on emotion moral theory, in Book III of the Treatise. (4) However, as I believe, Hume s philosophy on the whole, contains not one, but two theories of passion. One of them is a theory of the genesis of passions from pains and pleasures. The second theory, on the other hand, refers to the group of passions which are after N. Kemp Smith called primary passions; and I will call it the descriptive theory of passion. The Treatise is dominated almost exclusively by the theory of genesis but the role of the descriptive theory in Enquiries is more important, and particularly in those places where Hume argues against hedonism and egoism in his theory of motivation. On the theory of genesis, passions are produced from pains and pleasures either directly or indirectly which, as it is well known, leads to Hume s distinction between direct and indirect passions. According to the descriptive theory, however, the situation is quite different. In their existence, the primary passions do not depend on pleasures and pains, on the contrary, pains and pleasures are produced by them. There is an interesting tension between these two theories in Hume s philosophy but this problem cannot be discussed here. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

There is a spillway that takes water through the Trinity River to Eagle Mountain Lake and Lake Worth. This year has been a rough year for Lake Bridgeport with three digit temperatures and draining water to the other lakes. Since one of the purposes to build Lake Bridgeport was for storage, The Tarrant County water district approved to let out 20,000 acre feet of water from Lake Bridgeport to prevent the other lakes to be low. But 2013 is anything but a normal year. Today, what once was a scenic lake is covered in chest high weeds. Boaters and fisherman enjoy going to Lake Bridgeport during the summer. But in the summer of 2013 the boat ramps were unusable so the number of residents going to the lake dropped. There are dead fish floating to the shoreline as well as many other wildlife animals. The lake tested positive for Zebra Mussel larva, which is shell like creatures that are very sharp and stick to boats, anchors and docks. The Mussels are very dangerous for the lake environment, but they also eat bacteria so they could help the lake water clear up. • 18. The Economic Problem Of The Market Economy The economic problem faced in the market economy is that there are an unlimited amount of wants with a scarce amount of resources. They only current solution is to make decisions as the desire of satisfying all wants is not possible. Economics is the about the allocation of limited resources in the best possible way in order to satisfy needs (items essential for survival food and shelter) and wants (not necessities, but provide satisfaction and assist achievement of higher standard of living). In order to choose where to allocate resources, four fundamental questions must be attempted to be answered: 1. What to produce? 2. How much to produce? 3. How to produce? 4. How to distribute production? And with the usage of potential answers, opportunity cost (the loss of other alternatives when one alternative is chosen) occurs with every decision made. Individual consumers, business firms and the government are faced with the economic problem and must observe choices whilst considering the opportunity cost of these decisions which makes different economic factors such as individuals, businesses and the government address this problem in diverse ways. There are four fundamental questions, which assist addressing the economic problem when businesses need to prepare to produce goods and services: 1. What to produce? 2. How much to produce? 3. So I researched on it before I read this book. The alchemist is a person who studies how to transfer metal into gold, so I thought, according to the subject the story would be about a journey of studying how to transfer lead into gold. But my prediction was completely wrong until now. Transforming lead into gold takes just a few parts of the story. The main character, Santiago is a shepherd who is well educated. He is well educated because he was preparing for a prestige. I didn t get why Santiago wants to be a shepherd. The shepherd was a humble career, and prestige was a good career. Shepherds were mostly not educated. The merchant s daughter asked him how did you learn to read. From that question, I learned that Shepherd is not educated. The only good thing about Shepherd is traveling. Just because of the dream, it is not right to change career. If I was Santiago, I would just keep preparing prestige. Written and published 1886, this novella reflects on the individual, and societal behavior during the Victorian era. During the Victorian era people, were supposed to behave like a normal person. Certain behaviors were highly restricted for example, showing evil. Instead, they were expected to give respect for everyone. People who acted out against the norm during this period were usually sent to asylums because such behaviors were unacceptable. People in this society did just that, they behaved as if they were perfectly normal. This does not mean that their bad side did not exist. Instead, they hid their ... Through the eyes of the public, he is seen as a perfect, ideal Victorian man. He is a large, well made, smooth faced man of fifty, with something of a slyish cast perhaps, but every mark of capacity and kindness (31). Because of his status in society, Dr. Jekyll is obligated to hide his pleasures and show the society his caring, affectionate, and loyal virtues. Dr. Jekyll is benevolent and pleasant in his social interactions. He attempts to cover up his darker self by creating a courteous public persona. Everyone has a different persona when they are outside in the eyes of the public and when they are inside. Through Mr. Hyde, Dr. Jekyll reveals his destructive side. Transforming into Mr. Hyde gives Dr. Jekyll a freedom to act and behave without caring about the public s opinion or about the consequences of his actions. Dr. Jekyll is captured and locked up deep inside, he appears reasonably appropriate on the exterior but his inner reflections drives him towards immorality. As Dr. Jekyll privately turns into Mr. Hyde, not only is his appearance transformed, but also his behavior. This can be a similar caparison on people in today s society. The face recognition model developed by Bruce and Young has eight key parts and it suggests how we process familiar and unfamiliar faces, including facial expressions. The diagram below shows how these parts are interconnected. Structural encoding is where facial features and expressions are encoded. This information is translated at the same time, down two different pathways, to various units. One being expression analysis, where the emotional state of the person is shown by facial features. By using facial speech analysis we can process auditory information. This was shown by McGurk (1976) who created two video clips, one with lip movements indicating Ba and other indicating Fa . Both clips had the sound Ba played over the clip. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It is also unclear if it is the brain injury itself that causes the result and if it is the same for healthy people. There was a study done by Young, Hay, and Ellis (1985) that uses people with no medical issues. They asked people to keep a diary record of problems they experienced in face recognition. They found people never reported putting a name to a face while knowing nothing else about that person. This supports the model as it suggests that we cannot think of a person s name unless we know other contextual information about them. Prosopagnosia is a condition where a person cannot recognise familiar faces, but only the features, not the whole face. The condition contradicts the model as it suggests that the process are most likely not separate. As most patients had severe problems with facial expression as well as facial identity, this suggests they are processed separately. The model can also be seen as reductionist, as it only gives a vague description of what the cognitive system does. However, there is research that does support the concept that there are two are separate paths for processing face recognition and facial expression. One being Humphreys, Avidan, and Behrmann (2007) who studied three participants with developmental prosopagnosia. Most of the early artworks was visual arts, such as paintings, sculptures, printmaking and many other things. The purpose of art is the creative way to express our emotions to empower or inspire people, or it could bring out different emotions within ourselves, depending on how you look at it. Many of the art pieces have a story to tell or it can express the state of mind and feeling of the artist when the art was produced. Art is here today and will be tomorrow as well because art is now a part of our society. For my three pieces of artworks to write about, I chose an artist that has many art pieces in many galleries. His style is absolutely creative and different. Nothing like I ve ever since before. The first painting I observed is by an artist who has been a street artist since 1985, Gary John. He grew up in Seattle but moved to Venice, California in 2003 and began selling his art pieces on the boardwalk. One art piece of his that I found interesting is 31st street in 3 D , 2015. Without water we would not be able to life and Earth is therefore the only planet in this galaxy with life as we know it except for Mars where ice has been discovered so water may have been present once. It is this cohesion that allows water to travel up tree trunks to the highest branches on trees, if the cohesion was weaker the water would simply flow back down the xylem vessels due to gravity, therefore without this property of water tall trees and plants would die. In a pond small insects such as pond skaters which are relatively dense can float on the water and live on the surface of the water. Without the tension such organisms would have no habitat and would die. Water also acts as a good temperature buffer to stabilise experiments within cells. Dating back as early as 410 A.D., the fall of the Roman empire, neighboring countries and tribes vigorously fought for the rule of England (Literature). In this essay I intend to briefly outline what it is Geertz aims to achieve with his approach, concentrating mainly on his focus on symbols and identifying the contributions this idea has given to the anthropology of religion. I will also touch upon the similarities and differences between Geertz s (1966) definition and that of Asad (1983). Geertz s describes his definition of religion as a universal one but geared to focus on the particular; one that can be applied to all religions, and once identified as a religion we can distinguish a separation between religion and other entities i.e. politics, therefore allowing us to discuss the relationship which intertwines them. Geertz describes culture as a system of inherited conceptions expressed in symbolic forms by means of which men communicate, perpetuate, and develop their knowledge about and attitudes toward life (Geertz, 1966 :3), thus the ways of which we understand what ... The purpose of this research paper is to demonstrate that immigration to the Rio Grande valley has had a negative impact. White people already didn t think much of us. It took place in a small town in South Carolina called Catfish Row. The apartments sat close to a beach. Throughout the play, there was plenty of ways that portrayed African American in a negative way. Porgy and Bess is the epitome of how Caucasians thought of African Americans and the way we live. Throughout my paper I m going to express how white people judged African Americans, Where did Porgy and Bess come from, and The names of the characters and how degrading the authors are making African Americans out to be. There are quite a few different yoga posses and each one has a benefit towards the mind body connection. As of 2011, 1,300 poses had been described and 200 had been video graphed (Rockwood, Media, 2009). As a beginner it can be tough to perform some poses since there are different ones with different names. Also, it may be challenging to do complete certain poses if we are not familiar with how to precede a pose. For example, when I first tried yoga I had no clue what was going on or how to remain in a certain position. Though not being familiar with the different poses that were being practice during my first yoga class, helped me relax my body and tension that I was holding on. In a way that I was able to listen to the teacher and just be mindful. Yoga poses have been catalogued since before written history. Depictions of yoga poses were found engraved on soapstone seals in the ruins of the cities of Mohenjo Daro and Harappa, which flourished at least 5,000 years ago in the Indus River Valley (Rockwood, Media, 2009). Yoga poses have been around for a while and they are being practice in today s life style. Seems to be famous since many people from different ages are studying and practicing it. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Now that I have discussed the use of force and whether it is excessive or not I will begin to answer the original question posed. Does the family of the teens have any legal recourse available to them, and if so what is available to them? The answer to this is yes the families definitely have legal recourse available to them for a number of reasons. The first mistake the officers made was pulling over the teens because they thought they might have been involved in a recent string of burglaries. That right there is a violation of the teens Fourth Amendment to have probable cause to stop them in the first place. Police officers have to have probable cause or more than a hunch to pull someone over. The scenario said nothing about the car was pulled over because maybe a witness saw the car leaving the scene of the crime, or maybe the officer had a description of the suspect and they matched it, he just thought they might be involved. Secondly, they did question the teens and because of their responses the officer becomes angry and pulls the teens out of the car. The officer had no right to pull the teens out of the car because of what they said. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
