Hb 4446
HB 4446 is positive for Michigan condominium associations as many developers have drafted onerous
provisions in condominium documents that do not allow for the board of directors to take necessary to
protect condominium associations action unless a 2/3 co owner vote is a obtained and numerous other
requirements are satisfied. HB 4446 will address the following issues:
Anti Lawsuit Provisions Decrease Property Values
Michigan residents purchase condominiums with the expectation that the condominium documents
will be enforced equally against all co owners as a means to increase property values and preserve the
aesthetic character of the community. If the board of directors of a condominium association cannot

314663 (Mich Ct App June 24, 2014), the Michigan Court of Appeals held:
The Association contends that the prelitigation approval provision would deny [it] the right to even
defend itself in any litigation brought by anyone for any purpose. This interpretation is incorrect. The
provision does not preclude the Association from defending itself in the face of a lawsuit. Rather, it
sets a condition under which the Association may act on behalf of the owners for the purpose of
litigation. A vote could be conducted to spend money on a defense should the Association be sued, or
the owners could choose to default, just like any other defendant is free to choose.
However, as indicated above, this is not really a choice as an association does not have realistic
chance of being able to take the necessary action to respond to the complaint in such a short time
period. By way of example, if a one hundred (100) unit association is sued for $1,000,000. The
association has twenty one (21) days to file an answer, but fails to either a) find a location and/or
schedule a meeting in time or b) holds the meeting, but cannot obtain a quorum of members. The
twenty one (21) days elapses and the circuit court clerk enters a default against the association. Each
co owner would be forced to pay $10,000 to satisfy the default judgment merely because the board of
directors was prevented from hiring an attorney to defend the lawsuit. Accordingly, HB 4446 would
prevent these types of situations from taking place and provide the board of directors of a
condominium association with authority to defend a

Leading Indicators
The assigned readings for Unit 2 (Chapters 2, 3 and 6) cover the effects of workplace accidents,
accident theories, and workers compensation. In professional safety practice, the topics covered in this
unit generally include a discussion of safety metrics . Measuring safety performance is a mixed bag of
calculating and reviewing data associated with lagging indicators and leading indicators . By
definition, lagging indicators are output oriented, easy to measure and calculate, but not improvable
since they are measures of what already occurred (i.e., losses in the form of accidents, property
damage, or loss of life). In contrast, leading indicators are input oriented and represent preventative
measures taken to improve overall safety and reduce the occurrence of incidents and injuries.
Lagging indicators allude to the health of a company s safety program and performance in the form of
past accident and incident statistics, such as lost workers compensation costs, injury frequency, injury
severity, OSHA recordables, near misses, spills/releases or Experience Modification Rate (EMR). In
general, lagging indicators have been traditionally used to indicate trends toward better safety
compliance and adherence to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Leading indicators are proactive activities that are aimed at identifying and correcting hazards to aid in
preventing adverse events, looking for and correcting areas of weakness in a safety program (i.e.,
training, communication, etc.) and trying to eliminate risk through preemptive inspections, audits and
employee attitudes and perceptions. Leading indicators are focused on future safety performance and

the pretty norm, and consequently discrimination against less attractive people.
The next section of the paper is the legal environment, wherein the authors initially discuss the

important civil rights laws Title VII of the Civil Rights Act, the Age Discrimination in Employment

appearance discrimination in the narrow sense examined herein of attractiveness. In the analysis of
Title VII, the authors define and differentiate, a disparate treatment discrimination case from a

Socio Political Allegory in Park Chan Wook s Oldboy
10 December 2015
Abstract One of Director Park Chan Wook s most renowned works is the film Oldboy (2003). At face
value, this film appears to be a regular mystery thriller film. However, after further analysis, there are
many parallels to contemporary Korean history and society. These parallels, or allegories, become
more apparent upon review of the film. The film contains references to Korea s tumultuous history
and contemporary culture, highlighting the multiple disappointments felt by the Korean people (Seth).
The main character Oh Dae su also stands in for the average Korean citizen while his adversary, Lee
Woo jin, represents upper class citizens, or chaebols, in Korea. After analyzing these points, this paper
argues that Oldboy does in fact serve as a socio political allegory for problems faced in contemporary
Korea. Problems that are addressed include democratization, class structure and privilege, capitalism,
and the importance of power and money in Korea (Kim).
Socio Political Allegory in Park Chan Wook s Oldboy While films are primarily for entertainment,
they often also stand as an excellent medium for spreading awareness about social issues. It is often
seen in cinema that a small point or effect actually has a much larger meaning. Historically, directors
have used to raise awareness and spread knowledge about social issues.

The Futility Of Chasing The American Dream By F. Scott...
To pursue a goal which is by definition unattainable is to condemn oneself to a state of perpetual
unhappiness (Emile). Such as in this case, a person should not set a goal that is out of their reach.
They will only cause everlasting misery to themselves. Perhaps nowhere else is this theme more
valuable than in the text, The Great Gatsby. In the text, F. Scott Fitzgerald displays the futility of
chasing the American dream through symbolism and characterization. In the novel, one of the main
characters, Jay Gatsby sets his sights on a ceaseless journey to find his lost love, Daisy Buchanan. On
his journey he partakes in embodying the American dream. Gatsby begins to work hard to improve his
life; compared to East Egg, the more privileged citizens who always have been wealthy for
generations. Gatsby lives on West Egg, which is considered for the more adventitious citizens. He has
worked hard for his money trying to prevail in life. Although the way that he obtained his wealth can
be questionable for their virtuous conduct; the reason why he has done this can be appeared as
romantic. He devotes his life to ensuing Daisy his heart. When Gatsby embodies the American dream,
he transforms himself into the man he hopes Daisy would want. For Gatsby to obtain this dream he
had to change his name; James Gatz to Jay Gatsby. Jay Gatz that was really, or least legally, his name
(Fitzgerald, 2004, pg. 98). Jay Gatz was a poor man; he lives in poverty. When he first met Dan Cody,

In Depth Analysis Of Emicho And His Crusaders
The first crusade started in 1096 B.C. when Pope Urban II called for the for a holy war. This was the
beginning of the first crusade. What originally was supposed to be the taking back of Jerusalem led to
the death of thousands of Jewish people. This with previous persecution of the Jews, by Christians, led
to even more persecution of Jews. Pope Urban II called for a holy war in 1095. Urban wanted the
Christians to take over the holy city of Jerusalem. He also said the Islamic people committed crimes
against Christendom. When he called for this crusade he expected to have trained soldiers partake in
the war and taking over of Jerusalem. What he didn t expect were thousands of untrained peasants, but
that s what he got. Pope Urban ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Pros And Cons Of Co-Sleeping Or Crib-Sleeprs
Co sleeping or crib sleepers that is the question for new parents. There are people that feel that co
sleeping is irresponsible and that parents who share a family bed are putting their baby s life at risk.
(Onderko, 2016) The American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) recommended against bed sharing in
2005 stating that it is linked to the increase in sudden infant death syndrome (SIDS).
There are not a one size fits all approach to where the baby should sleep, and how long they child
should sleep there. It really depends on the comfort of the child and the parent. Some babies can sleep
more peacefully in their cribs where they are alone and are able to move about. While other babies

Thomas Hobbes Theory That Absolute Monarchy Is The Best...
Human nature signifies the set of principles that define how mankind operates on a daily basis.
Generations have often debated the nature of man, with both optimistic and cynical views.
Government represents the organized structure that controls man. In Leviathan, Thomas Hobbes
advocates for an absolute monarchy to keep citizens well behaved because man is inherently self
interested. John Locke, on the other hand, depicts in Second Treatise of Government that a bipartite
political society is the ideal form of government because we are in a state of nature and are free to do
as we please. Hobbes theory that absolute monarchy is the best form of government because man is in
a constant state of war is a sound assertion because humans have conflicting desires that create a state
of war, humans form government to alleviate the state of war, and absolute monarchy provides the
most efficient means of providing security that is absent in a state of war. Hobbes articulates a
materialist view of man, which asserts life is but a motion of limbs, (Leviathan 3) and that all men are
composed of the same materials. It thereby follows that men, or simply matter in motion, desire the
same things because they are composed of the same things. Man s similarities go beyond merely his
composition. Man relies on certain necessities in order to maintain life. These necessities, such as the
need to eat food and drink water, correspond to all of mankind. Therefore, in order to preserve life,

Production Of A Product Line
Abstract Everything that needs to be manufactured requires a precise Bill of Materials (BoM) which
described exactly what specific items, components or parts composed the products that has been
specified / ordered. For complex configured products, such as mass produced passenger cars, the
vehicle that is ordered by the client is configured to his / her requirements on the basis of an all
possible option in a configurable BoM i.e. the 150% BoM from which all possible configured BoM
variants or the 100% BoMs can be created. The 150% BoM is just another name for a variant
structure, or more specifically, a configurable BoM which contains the art of the possible of a product
line. A variant BoM contains more parts and assemblies than actually needed to assemble the (final)
product the 150% of the parts. In Manufacturing terms, variant BoMs can be used specifically for
Assembled To Order or ETO (Engineered To Order). Variant management helps to find the best
combination of standard components and custom components which balances customer s product
requirements and product costs. This paper will give information on the process towards creating
integrating the variants within the PLM for WARMAN and ISOGATE brand products. In the Engineer

Speak, Memory by Vladamir Nabokov
To some degree, every artist creates his or her own artistic life preserver, and in doing so resequences
and conserves their own artistic DNA so that it may be transferred onto another generation. Vladimir
Nabokov s memoir Speak, Memory, is not only that preserver, but the tug boat that it holds onto,
heavy and cramped with the memories and history that Nabokov retells his readers against the currents
of time. Speak, Memory operates thematically, not chronologically. Nabokov returns anew to his early
childhood and pulls in, as it were, the memories associated with certain themes. Then he turns,
changes directions, and sets off again. One such theme that resonates throughout the novel is that of
exile and deteterritorialization, both ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
(79) Even early on in his childhood, Nobokov found those comfortable products of Anglo Saxon
civilization as nothing more than useful necessities. The extinct tradition learning that is taken on by
him is private multilingual tutorship, even if now it seems like a very pluralistic one as it included
both Russian, English and French at the same time. It is this because of this multilingual education
that Nabokov encounters less wonder in terms of cultural conflicts that usually plights other exiles.
Nabokov s traditional aristocratic background accentuates many of his experiences abroad, he
internalizes spiritual deteterritorialization and finds enjoyment within it. But it is also this spiritual
deterritorialization that follows Nabokov throughout his life that makes his account of his life seem
more artistic and disconnected, even if there is a profound emotional impact on the reader in the end.
While some moments in his life might evoke sympathy, like his retelling of his father s death, or make
readers to take a side, such as the incident with Nesbit during his time in Cambridge, Nabokov keeps
the reader at a distance by concealing his feelings in rhetoric. An example of this is the short
biography (173) of his father. Using vivid details to describe his father, one can feel the spiritual
resonance the experience had on Nabokov. And behind it all there was yet a very special emotional
abyss that I was

Macbeth Blood Quotes
Is Macbeth really a good person? In Macbeth, by William Shakespeare, the main character Macbeth is
married to his wife Lady Macbeth. Macbeth is first the Thane of Glamis then becomes the Thane of
Cawdor and then becomes the king of Scotland. Macbeth starts off as a nobody and then becomes a
tyrant. The tragic hero evolves throughout the play seen through the blood motif. Macbeth goes from
being brave to guilty to brave because of Lady Macbeth s greed for power.
At first, blood represents Macbeth s bravery because he is willing to do anything to protect his
country. Macbeth shows his bravery by fighting and killing enemies during war: For brave Macbeth
(well he deserves that name),/Disdaining Fortune, with his brandished steel,/Which smoked with
bloody execution (I. ii. 18 20). The use of the blood motif signifies Macbeth s bravery. Macbeth uses
his sword to kill many people who may hurt Scotland. Macbeth is extremely brave in this situation
because he is killing people and fighting in a war which is extremely dangerous and risky to himself.
Blood also signifies Macbeth s bravery because he fights for Scotland. When Macbeth walks into the
room his nobles are asking, What bloody man is that? (I. i. 1). The blood represents Macbeth s bravery
because he ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

represent Macbeth s guilt from having the murderers kill Banquo. Macbeth believes that he is in blood
(III. iv. 168). The use of blood represents Macbeth s guilt from killing his good friend Banquo.

Violence In Titus And Lavilleus
The human propensity for violence and revenge captivate, yet baffle audiences of literature. This
animalistic trait interwoven with human behavior is an ancient one and has survived the test of time,
despite our societal developments; wherein the need for survival and constant violence has sharply
declined. However, this intricacy of human nature remains and with it suffering brought on by a never
ending cycle violence that is only perpetuated by more violence. Not only that, but what we call evil
also continues to intrigue audiences and social scientists alike. This inescapable drawback of human

The violence of his action in killing both his children pertains to his honor as a father and the rules
that society has emplaced upon him. This expectation is understood when Titus asks Saturninus
whether or not the killing of Lavinia after her rape was an action he should conduct and why, to which
Saturninus answers: Because the girl should not survive her shame, / And by her presence still renew
his sorrows. (5.1.41) Notice that the reason for her death is tied to the father, who will be reminded of
her shame every time he sees her, and that there is an societal expectation that he do so. Shakespeare
gives his insight into how society also effects the cycle of violence, which can best be described by
William Goode in his article Force and Violence in the Family, in which he describes the societal
impacts on a father:
He is socialized not to kill, but that very socialization makes him care deeply about principles and
honor, fairness and possessions, fidelity and self respect; indeed, these emotional commitments are so
great that he will risk or even give his life for them. It cannot be so surprising that he will also murder
for them. (Goode

The Importance Of Being Ernest
The Importance of Being Earnest Character Analysis:
In Oscar Wilde s The Importance of Being Earnest, Wilde is mocking the Victorian society as a whole.
In a society where affirmed progress was key, it was critical for artists like Oscar Wilde and the Ozark
Actors Theatre to have a clear cut expression of the incomplete perception of life in the nineteenth
century England. Wilde s onslaught on the conduct of the current times is an effort to accomplish the
author s revelation that art has the capability to rule life, at a time when civilization measures progress
by factual research. Wilde choice to adopt the English language as the means to alter society whether

Algernon s subordinate outlook of Lane also illustrates his egotistic properties. At the start of the play,
Algernon is talking to Lane about his life, but when Lane starts to say something about his life,
Algernon expresses leisurely I don t know that I am much interested in your family life... (Algernon).
As the stock characters of Algernon and Lane methodically follow the mold of master and servant in
this hilarious story, their habitual behavior evolves into the source of humor and parody. The yes sir,
no sir demeanor of Lane is blended with his profitable endeavors to gain wits with his employer,
building the tone between Algernon and Lane antagonistic. By using Lane s character, Oscar Wilde is
belittling the demeanor of the Victorian noble who consider themselves of extra importance to society.
His intelligent representation of Lane suggests there is no discrepancy in understanding between upper
and middle class individuals. OAT satirizes the upper class idea of progress by making short remarks
about the importance of reading, the effectiveness of modern education, and the emergence of social
cleverness. Jack combats social cleverness by stating that, everybody is clever now a days... (Jack) In
addressing cleverness, Oscar Wilde berates those Victorians who merely hide behind this reality of
development.
OAT s satire of the Victorian emphasis on the human quality of earnestness is the bedrock this entire
work. The title The Importance of Being Earnest is a paradox because Wilde does not have a
congruent view with Victorian society on the magnitude of the importance of being serious. The
paradox of the title embodies the satirical nature of the text. Wilde shows

1. Benefits to human intervention:
Providing animals to a secure environment where humans will not interact with the animals.
Creation of animal protection law
Risks to human intervention:
Destruction of habitat
Increase in pollution
Overexploitation
Introduction of invasive species
2. Climate change would have an impact on all members of the food chain. There would be lots of
habitat loss and animals would have to try to move to a different location for food and then the
animals that hunted those animals would have to find a new food source and some plants would be
affected and die off because they cannot move. This would affect the diversity because then the

7. The increase of ocean temperatures would cause the coral to go through something called coral
bleaching. Coral bleaching is what happens when there is a loss of the algae on the coral. The increase
in ocean temperatures damages the algae and soon kills the coral too. An increase in ocean
temperature would mean that the coral would die, and all the species that used coral for food and
shelter would die off along with it.
8. The longer growing seasons or two harvests, have affected the biodiversity of agricultural lands by
allowing there to be more diversity between all the crops. This is a positive outcome, however, if the
farmer is monocropping, then that will damage the health of the soil. 9. A species such as the
Massasauga rattlesnake would be drastically affected by increased water levels in their habitats.
Snakes slither along the ground and would therefore be at a disadvantage in water. Some snakes have
adapted and become able to swim, but the Massasauga rattlesnake does not, and if it were to do so,
that would take a very long time to do so, possibly they would be extinct before then. Their dens are

Traditional and Alternative Teaching
Chapter 1 INTRODUCTION
THE PROBLEM AND ITS BACKGROUND It is well known that children learn in various ways and
have their own individual styles and strategies. Some may enjoy group works, others individual
works. Some may prefer teacher instructions with worksheets and firm direction, rather than self
generated research projects. There are numerous ways children learn, but how does the surrounding
environment, affects a child s learning ability and influence the learning strategies that employ? Our
society these days are divided into two different ways of thinking on the education. Some may believe
that alternative methods are better than the traditional methods of teaching but yet these two methods
are both a successful ways. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
With the view of functionalist, Skinner (1953) developed his theory of learning on the concept of
operantconditioning . He offer the organism operates in the environment doing whatever it does.
According to Skinner , while operating, the organisms encounters stimuli to which he referred as
reinforcing stimuli.
Cognitive Leaning Theory A founding father of Cognitive Learning Theory, GagnE (1985) contended
that it is more realistic to assume that there are different kinds of learning, arranged in a hierarchy,
with one sortbeing the prerequisite for the next. For example, solving an algebraic problem depends
on understanding algebraic function, which depends on knowing basic mathematical skills and
computations, which depends on recognizing simple numbers and symbols. For GagnE, simple
conditioning only provided the basis for more advance kind of learning. He built on the behaviorist
model by adding processing or cognitive component to Skinners model.
Conceptual Framework For a better understanding of the study, the conceptual framework is presented
in the paradigm below which consist of independent and dependent variables.
Figure 1: Paradigm of the Study The research paradigm of the study in figure 1 has the dependent
variables which consist of the subjects, materials and classrooms. While the independent variables

Class Structure In Brave New World
The futuristic dystopian novel Brave New World by Aldous Huxley is about a government and how
they control the citizens using conditioning, class structure, and the use of the drug soma.
Conditioning plays a big role because it helps teach children what their role in society is. It constantly
teaches the children what is right and wrong whether they are awake or sleeping. Class structure also
plays a role in how they control the citizens and how they live their life. Some classes are more
oppressed than others, like the Epsilons and Deltas who are used for manual labor because they have
little to no intelligence. To add, the governments use soma to control the citizens because it increases
serotonin in the brain and it helps escape from reality. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Soma is a hallucinogen that whenever someone takes it, they instantly become happy and more
carefree. The characters use this drug as an escape from the world. They don t want to feel pain or
sadness, they constantly want to feel the need of being joyful and happy. The government uses soma
as a way to gain social stability. Stability, said the Controller, stability. No civilization without
stability. No social stability without individual stability (Huxley, 42). Stability is a major role that is
needed in this kind of society. Without stability, the society will be in shambles. However, so many
people in the community loves soma, because many people constantly become distressed with topics
they aren t used to. For example, when two characters named Lenina and Bernard go to a Reservation,
Lenina says, But it s terrible, Lenina whispered. It s awful. We ought not to have come here. She felt
in her pocket for her soma only to discover that, by some unprecedented oversight, she had left the
bottle (Huxley, 111). Soma has become addicted throughout the community, and people can t go one
moment out of their norm. Lenina goes on saying, Oh, I wish I had my soma (Huxley, 116). Lenina is
constantly wanted soma whenever she pinpoints something wrong than her norm. This is because she
was conditioned to feel this way. A gramme in time saves nine, said Lenina, producing a bright
treasure of sleep taught wisdom (Huxley, 89). The term sleep taught wisdom is meaning that she
remembers this from hypnopaedia, and with the use of bright treasure , she thinks that the government
is always right. However, the government is controlling the community and Lenina portrays the
perfect character who believes that the government is always

The De Tomaso Pantera that launched in 1971 provided an Americanized version of an Italian styled

Therefore, they would sell the Pantera under the sign of the cat. Just in case you don t remember, the
Lincoln Mercury dealer network used a cougar as a mascot in the 70s. This was a perfect fit with the
Italian panther moniker.
Pantera Problems and Solutions
Elvis Presley owned a 1974 bright Yellow Pantera. It s said, [he opened fire on the automobile] when
it refused to start at his Memphis, Tennessee, home. The reasons behind the multiple issues
surrounding the first full production Panteras are attributed to a rush to production.
The sports car went from an idea on paper to cars rolling off the assembly line in less than a year.
Airflow was a big shortcoming in these sports cars. The engine overheated easily due to an undersized
radiator with poor airflow across its core.
Airflow was also an issue for the interior cabin. Drivers and passengers complained about oppressive
temperatures in the tight interior cabin. This issue was amplified when the engine began to overheat.
Owner s also complained about driver comfort.
The intrusion of the left front wheel well into the foot area made the car difficult to drive. This is
especially true if you have large feet. Jay Leno owns a 1971 Pantera. He s on record of saying he has
to take his shoes off to drive the car.
All Panteras came with Ford s ZF manual transmission. It utilized an Italian style gated shifter that
looked better than it operated. Although the ZF five speed is considered durable and reliable,

Homeless Vehicle Project With David Lurie
Since the wealthy class decided whether or not what was considered fine art, many contemporary
artists began to rebel against these practices and began creating work that not only included lower
class members of society but also addressed many of the issues they were facing in their societies such
as homelessness. During the mid 1980s, many contemporary artists began taking their works out of
the museums and galleries and started presenting them in the city streets, poverty stricken ghettos and
urban communities. By doing this they were able to reach a broader audience outside of high class
society. Artists such as, Krzysztof Wodiczko, was one of the first artist to take his work out of the
museums and into the streets.
Wodiczko began making art work pertaining to many important social issues. His work titled
Homeless Vehicle Project with David Lurie (Kalb Pg.106) tackles the issue of homelessness in New
York. Wodiczko vehicles were begun and developed in the conjunction with the homeless people who
were to use to them. . This concept was based on the design of an, enlarged shopping car that provided
the users with storage space, shelter and mobility. (106) These vehicles were to serve a purpose much
greater than art, it was to address the issue of homelessness in community. As stated previously the

High School Is A Time Of Great Fun
Sophomore year at my school, Greenbrier School District, is our first year of High School. We are the
dreaded underclassman of the school. We get the boos at the pep rallys, we get the worst lunch tables,
we get the bad parking spots, and worst of all when we mess up everyone knows and finds out. Every
High Schooler wants to be cool and liked by everyone especially the cooler Seniors. Everyone
experiences in their life the time of being the Sophomore the rookie and when you mess up at that
time it seems to affect you more than any other time. We feel the most vulnerable when we are the
weaker people, even the smallest things seem to hurt us the most.
High School is suppose to be a time of great fun. In my small town of Greenbrier, Arkansas with a
population of about five thousand people, our Friday night sports are everything. First Security, a local
bank, tailgates before most games, people line up to get good seats, they deck out in panther gear, and
everyone is always smiling and having a good time. At school before the games we have huge pep
rally s where all 3 grades come together and yell and support the Panthers. A person from the team
playing that night speaks about the games and how hard everyone has worked for tonight. No one is
ever sitting and everyone finds it enjoyable. School pride is of great value to Greenbrier students.

Character Analysis of Sir Toby Belch in Shakespeare´s...
Comedy is by far the most influential factor in deciding whether or not a story is entertaining to its
audience, due to its ability to create a more relaxed and pleasurable environment in the plot. From the
playful awkwardness of Anne Shirley, to the witty banter of detectives Tommy and Tuppence, it is
evident that comedic characters have always been appreciated and acknowledged in literature. Sir
Toby Belch is but one of many amusing characters, and is by far one of the most humorous. While
Shakespeare s Twelfth Night is surrounded around an issue of romantic entanglement, Sir Toby s very
presence is enough to lighten the mood and accentuate the comedic theme of the story through his
creation of problems and unique personality. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This is one of the most amusing scenes in the play, followed by Belch s famous attempt at getting Sir
Andrew to accost Olivia s chamber maid; Maria which resulted in utter confusion. In addition, Sir
Toby also delivers several witty and comedic comments to divert the attention from a supposedly
serious love affair between Malvolio and Olivia to the events taking place behind the ever famous box
tree. Here s an overweening rouge (II v 27) and O for a stone bow to hit him in the eye! (II v 43) are
samples of the remarks made by Sir Toby while he observes Malvolio in hiding. Although all these
examples were mere results of a drunken night or craving for fun on Sir Toby s part, as an audience
they were received as cheerful moments in the play that amended their attention from the surrounding
melancholy. It also demonstrates his unique capability to amuse onlookers no matter how intense a
situation is, and trumps his unappealing and carefree attitude. Furthermore, another of the countless
reasons why Sir Toby Belch is the most enjoyable character in Twelfth Night is pertaining to his
whimsical and absurd personality that is like none other s in the play. This intrigues the audience and
compels them to enjoy every moment that he appears on stage, seeing as though a dull statement from
Sir Toby has not yet been found in his dialogue. Approach, Sir Andrew. Not to be abed after midnight

His effectiveness rests on the fact that he has developed the practical essence of Marxism to a pitch of
clarity and concreteness never before achieved. He has rescued this aspect of Marxism from an almost
total oblivion and by virtue of this theoretical action he has once again placed in our hands the key to a

underlying this book to understand the essence of Marx s method and to apply it correctly. In no sense
do we aspire to improve on it. If on a number of occasions certain statements of Engels are made the

The buffalo woman is the catalyst for all events succeeding her prophecy. Without her, Sundiata would

focuses more on Sogolon than Maghan, even though Sundiata s birth is reliant on both of them. This
gives Sogolon and immediate air of importance and power. The buffalo woman predicts that Sogolon,
will be an extraordinary woman if you manage to possess her (8). Here, the buffalo woman asserts the

Organic Foods And Organic Food
In 1980, the US Department of Agriculture (USDA) took an interest in organic farming, publishing a
report titled Report and Recommendations on Organic Farming. (Organic Debate, 2014) As organic
foods have been growing rapidly in the last 20 years there has been a lot of talking about whether or
not organic foods are healthy. As people today have been eating a lot more of organic foods they are
having arguments stating that organic food is not what they say on the labels. Although people think
that organic food is not what the farmers say it is, it still helps people with there health and provides a

Social Attitudes In The Great Gatsby
I felt a haunting loneliness sometimes, and felt it in others young clerks in the dusk, wasting the most

was published on April 10, 1925. In The Great Gatsby, Fitzgerald sheds light on the different
personalities between the aged rich families and the modern rich families. An example of the
sophistication of Gatsby are the elaborate parties he throws for the people he invites, while on the
other hand, Tom and Daisy have a simple dinner with only a few people over. The emptiness one
might feel at any time in their life cannot be fulfilled with money but only with other friends
surrounding one. Gatsby is characterized as a very elaborate man sophisticated in his ways. He is
always seen throwing extravagant parties with only the best of the best belongings in his home. One
week ends his Rolls Royce became an omnibus, bearing parties to and from the city between nine in
the morning and long past midnight, while his station wagon scampered like a brisk yellow bug to
meet all trains. ( Melville, p.39). Nick explains the bizarre lifestyle that Gatsby had with all his parties.
Although, throughout Gatsby s life, the reader is able to see the emptiness he feels without Daisy. I,m
just going to wait here and see if he tries to bother her about that unpleasantness this afternoon. She s
locked herself into her room, and if he tries any brutality she s going to turn the light out and on again.
(Melville, p.144). Here, the reader recognizes the love Gatsby has for daisy. He is willing to wait all
night in order to be sure of her protection. Gatsby has called off all of his parties and fired all of his
servants just to spend time with daisy. In doing this, Gatsby shows great qualities that one should look
for in another person: love, loyalty, trust, and a kind heart. Unfortunately, these attributes led to

Identify and evaluate how a knowledge of human resource management can improve a manager s
efficiency and effectiveness in managing cultural change Contributors:

Introduction
Though an examination of human resource management theories, the authors of this document intend
to demonstrate how a practical application of this knowledge can assist in effectively managing the
process of cultural change in an organization. This will be done through a case study of the company
John Lewis. It will outline their current organizational model, examine the impact of and their reaction
to, the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Hofstede s model has been criticized as having a limited theoretical framework because the surveys he
used were not designed with his work in mind, but rather, were for IBM s internal purposes
(McSweeney, 2002, cited by Magnusson et al 2008, p. 186). Its vaidity has also been questioned in the
absence of a feminine perspective, largely because his surveys were mainly of white middle class men
from one company ( Moulettes, 2007, p.443 445). Until the beginning of the world economic
recession in September 2008, John Lewis s model could have been considered a very successful one.
However, given the current economic climate, John Lewis has been forced to review their
organizational structure with a view to the company s survival in the future. For the first time in John
Lewis s history, partners have had concerns about their job security. Two events signalled a change in
the outlook. Firstly, the company s decision to close the Stevenage distribution plant which had
become obsolete with the introduction of the new automated Milton Keynes plant. 200 partners were
made redundant by the closure of the Stevenage plant. Secondly, as a result of the overall decline in
the company s performance in 2009, it was decided to make another 40 partners from the head office
redundant. This has changed the overall mood of the partners, creating feelings of insecurity and
questioning the model and their relationship to it. This kind of dissent in the ranks could have

Racial Stereotypes of Blacks in the Media
Racial Stereotypes of Blacks in the Media The media and stereotypes are two separate entities.
However, many times these two matters commingle. The lines begin to blend and soon people may
not be able to distinguish between these two affairs. The stereotypes are so welded into what is shown
in the media. A stereotype is a generalization of a group of people. In and of themselves, stereotypes
are not damaging. Stereotypes become damaging when they distort the view placed on a group of
individuals. Unfortunately, the media warps their views on people to the general public for their own
gain based on the stereotypes they manifest. The Black race is one that has been greatly affected by
these stereotypes. Many believe that there are no biases ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
(14 15). Thoughts of blacks lacking intelligence lasted through the years because blacks were still
being casted in roles like those of Amos n Andy. Shipler mentions that Family Matters , a more recent
show, presents blacks once again as mentally inferior (301). Steve Eurkle one of the main characters
repeatedly gets into bad situations cause by his stupidity. The in studio audience laughs as he exclaims
his punch line, Did I do that?! Comedy shows are light hearted and good natured, but the audience
must remember that one Black character s incompetency is not typical of all Black people. The
stereotypes soon transcend television and enter reality. A Country of Strangers mentions a survey that
was conducted. The National Opinion Research Center surveyed about 1,200 Americas in 1990. The
questions asked about intellect. The results showed that 53.2 percent rates [blacks] as less intelligent
and 40.5 percent saw [blacks] as equally intelligent [as whites] (Shipler 278). The results show that
the American public buys into the stereotypes that the media display. What is even sadder is the fact
that the survey in Shipler s book also found that Blacks were viewing themselves as less intelligent
than Whites. Approximately one third of the Blacks surveyed believed their intelligence to be lower
than Whites

Breakdown of the Mortgage Supply Chain
Executive Summary
This report reviews the current financial crisis by looking at the lack of quality management through
the mortgage supply chain. The crisis represents a failure of proper regulation and visibility
throughout the mortgage supply chain. Only careful management of these quality issues through all
financial institutions and through all aspects of the financial supply chain will remedy the past issues.
This is a difficult task but not impossible. This report will discuss each section of the mortgage supply
chain and how the weaknesses in the integration caused the financial crisis. Proposed legislation will
be explained in detail. Several recommendations will be proposed, both short term and long term,
which I believe ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As a result, credit underwriting tightened nationwide as the capital of many banks declined sharply.
Residential Mortgage Debt
Figure 1 shows the Outstanding First Lien Residential Mortgage Debt in all sectors as of 2007. The
Agency Mortgage Backed Securities represent the high credit, low loan to value, safe loans
administered by governmental agencies such as; Fannie Mae, Freddie Mac and Ginnie Mae. The right
side of the exhibit shows the Non Agency Backed Securities which make up three areas of mortgage
where the government is not willing to lend. Jumbo loans consist of those loans which exceed the
maximum allowed loan limits which differ from state to state. This level is set forth by the
government and is any loan $417,000 or greater in North Carolina. The Alt A loans are intended for
those borrowers who do not fit in the conforming guidelines but who have a better credit rating and
history than a sub prime borrower. Alt A loans would consist of loans for investment properties,
second homes, or high loan to values for borrowers who would otherwise be considered conforming.
The third section of this exhibit makes up the sub prime borrowers who have less than stellar credit
but are willing to pay a higher down payment and a higher rate to get a mortgage loan. As you can see,
the sub prime sector makes up the majority of the non agency loans. Also note that most of

Pros and Cons of High Fructose Corn Syrup Essay
High Fructose Corn Syrup
Abstract:
High fructose corn syrup is a commonly used artificial sweetener in foods. High fructose corn syrup is
a hydrolyzed version of ordinary corn syrup, which is produced via a steeping process. It is so widely
used because it is both economically favorable and it helps to preserve food for extended periods of
time. However, the drawbacks of high fructose corn syrup include issues like potential obesity,
diabetes, loss of liver function, malnutrition, and cancer. The fact that the producers of high fructose
corn syrup can deceive people that HFCS is harmless makes matters worse.
High fructose corn syrup (HFCS) is an artificial sweetener commonly used in the United States. As its
name implies, this ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As corn will naturally ferment, it is bathed in water containing sulfur dioxide. The water is kept at an
elevated temperature at about 120 Fahrenheit for the 40 hour duration of the steeping process. George
Inglett indicates that during that time, the corn absorbs water, swelling to its maximum size, and
starches are loosened from the protein matrix (79). Soluble components in the corn are also removed
during steeping. The steepwater is often recovered, allowed to ferment, and used to make antibiotics in
its fermented form. The second major step is milling. After the steepwater is drained, the kernels are
sent to degerminating mills. Here, the kernels are torn apart and the oil containing germ is freed in
centrifuges. The oil containing germs are ground to separate the starch and gluten from the coarser
particles. These two elements are separated with centrifuges, and the extraction of water completes the
process of recovery. Finally, the starch and gluten are refined to make pure corn syrup. By extracting
different portions of the corn at different times, other products can be produced from basic corn like
corn oil, feeds, starches, antibiotics, and other sweeteners.
Producing corn syrup is the simple part of making high fructose corn syrup. It took the sugar industry
many years to figure out how to increase the fructose content and thus the sweetness of corn syrup.

Anabolic Steroid Use And Anabolic Steroids
Why do athletes get so hooked on this so called Steroid ? I m interested in this question, because that s
the question that truly caught my attention the most and, also keeps me wondering. If people who use
it have seen improvement, why do they keep using it. The anabolic steroid also known as the anabolic
androgenic steroid is a drug that athletes use to give more muscle mass to the body and create more
testosterone in the body. If traced back to the 1940 s steroids first appeared in Germany. Athletes had
begun to use this substance as early as 1950 at the olympic games during the Cold war. Website
http://Cesar.com states, From that point until the early 1970 s, steroids became increasingly popular
among not just Olympic athletes, but also professional sports players and high school athletes (Cesar).
Steroids truly have developed into something that everyone wants to get to achieve the perfect body or
create a better physique.
In the article Body Image, Disordered Eating and Anabolic Steroid Use in Female Bodybuilders by
Gary S. Goldfield, he mentions how women and men often suffer from bulimia nervosa because of
their eating habits. Especially bodybuilders, because of competing they have to look and be lean, so
they diet harshly for their body fat levels to be low and more muscle definition to be seen.
Competitive bodybuilding is a sport that requires participants to be exceptionally lean and
mesomorphic, thus participants may be vulnerable to developing

The Allegheny Woodrat ( Neotoma Magister )
Introduction
The Allegheny woodrat (Neotoma magister) is a small mammal that is endemic to the United States.
They live in the eastern part of the United States in deciduous forests. Their species can be found from
the Appalachian Mountains through the interior Highland regions, including western Connecticut to
northern Alabama (Castleberry et al 2006). Woodrats are restricted to areas that have rocky structures
such as caves, fissures, and boulder piles and live within the spaces between rocks (Castleberry et al.
2006). Rocky habitats are good living spaces for them because the crevices provide protection from
predators and also create a den environment for young to develop. Since rocky areas are usually
distributed in patches throughout an environment, woodrats are considered to be metapopulations
because their populations are separated (Castleberry et al. 2002). Other animals that can be found
using the same rocky habitats for denning, roosting, or nesting include the Rafinesque s big eared bat
(Corynorhinus rafinesquii), Townsend s big eared bat (C. townsendii), common raven (Corvus corax),
long tailed weasel (Mustela frenata), eastern small footed myotis (Myotis leibii), eastern spotted skunk
(Spilogale putorius), and American black bear (Ursus americanus) (Castleberry et al. 2006). The
different types of species that live in the community creates competition and leaves woodrat
populations vulnerable. Competition and predators are examples of factors that

HB 4446 will address the following issues: Anti Lawsuit Provisions Decrease Property Values Michigan residents purchase condominiums with the expectation that the condominium documents will be enforced equally against all co owners as a means to increase property values and preserve the aesthetic character of the community. This interpretation is incorrect. The provision does not preclude the Association from defending itself in the face of a lawsuit. Rather, it sets a condition under which the Association may act on behalf of the owners for the purpose of litigation. A vote could be conducted to spend money on a defense should the Association be sued, or the owners could choose to default, just like any other defendant is free to choose. However, as indicated above, this is not really a choice as an association does not have realistic chance of being able to take the necessary action to respond to the complaint in such a short time period. By way of example, if a one hundred (100) unit association is sued for $1,000,000. The association has twenty one (21) days to file an answer, but fails to either a) find a location and/or schedule a meeting in time or b) holds the meeting, but cannot obtain a quorum of members. The twenty one (21) days elapses and the circuit court clerk enters a default against the association. Each co owner would be forced to pay $10,000 to satisfy the default judgment merely because the board of directors was prevented from hiring an attorney to defend the lawsuit. Accordingly, HB 4446 would prevent these types of situations from taking place and provide the board of directors of a condominium association with authority to defend a ... • 3. Leading Indicators The assigned readings for Unit 2 (Chapters 2, 3 and 6) cover the effects of workplace accidents, accident theories, and workers compensation. In professional safety practice, the topics covered in this unit generally include a discussion of safety metrics . Measuring safety performance is a mixed bag of calculating and reviewing data associated with lagging indicators and leading indicators . By definition, lagging indicators are output oriented, easy to measure and calculate, but not improvable since they are measures of what already occurred (i.e., losses in the form of accidents, property damage, or loss of life). In contrast, leading indicators are input oriented and represent preventative measures taken to improve overall safety and reduce the occurrence of incidents and injuries. Lagging indicators allude to the health of a company s safety program and performance in the form of past accident and incident statistics, such as lost workers compensation costs, injury frequency, injury severity, OSHA recordables, near misses, spills/releases or Experience Modification Rate (EMR). Socio Political Allegory Of Park Chan Wook s Oldboy Mehtasim Mahfuz CCS 394 Professor Pi Ju Liang Socio Political Allegory in Park Chan Wook s Oldboy 10 December 2015 Abstract One of Director Park Chan Wook s most renowned works is the film Oldboy (2003). At face value, this film appears to be a regular mystery thriller film. However, after further analysis, there are many parallels to contemporary Korean history and society. These parallels, or allegories, become more apparent upon review of the film. The film contains references to Korea s tumultuous history and contemporary culture, highlighting the multiple disappointments felt by the Korean people (Seth). The main character Oh Dae su also stands in for the average Korean citizen while his adversary, Lee Woo jin, represents upper class citizens, or chaebols, in Korea. After analyzing these points, this paper argues that Oldboy does in fact serve as a socio political allegory for problems faced in contemporary Korea. Problems that are addressed include democratization, class structure and privilege, capitalism, and the importance of power and money in Korea (Kim). Socio Political Allegory in Park Chan Wook s Oldboy While films are primarily for entertainment, they often also stand as an excellent medium for spreading awareness about social issues. It is often seen in cinema that a small point or effect actually has a much larger meaning. Historically, directors have used to raise awareness and spread knowledge about social issues. ... • 7. The Futility Of Chasing The American Dream By F. Scott... To pursue a goal which is by definition unattainable is to condemn oneself to a state of perpetual unhappiness (Emile). Such as in this case, a person should not set a goal that is out of their reach. They will only cause everlasting misery to themselves. Perhaps nowhere else is this theme more valuable than in the text, The Great Gatsby. In the text, F. Scott Fitzgerald displays the futility of chasing the American dream through symbolism and characterization. In the novel, one of the main characters, Jay Gatsby sets his sights on a ceaseless journey to find his lost love, Daisy Buchanan. On his journey he partakes in embodying the American dream. Gatsby begins to work hard to improve his life; compared to East Egg, the more privileged citizens who always have been wealthy for generations. Gatsby lives on West Egg, which is considered for the more adventitious citizens. He has worked hard for his money trying to prevail in life. Although the way that he obtained his wealth can be questionable for their virtuous conduct; the reason why he has done this can be appeared as romantic. He devotes his life to ensuing Daisy his heart. When Gatsby embodies the American dream, he transforms himself into the man he hopes Daisy would want. For Gatsby to obtain this dream he had to change his name; James Gatz to Jay Gatsby. Jay Gatz that was really, or least legally, his name (Fitzgerald, 2004, pg. 98). • 10. Thomas Hobbes Theory That Absolute Monarchy Is The Best... Human nature signifies the set of principles that define how mankind operates on a daily basis. Generations have often debated the nature of man, with both optimistic and cynical views. Government represents the organized structure that controls man. In Leviathan, Thomas Hobbes advocates for an absolute monarchy to keep citizens well behaved because man is inherently self interested. John Locke, on the other hand, depicts in Second Treatise of Government that a bipartite political society is the ideal form of government because we are in a state of nature and are free to do as we please. Hobbes theory that absolute monarchy is the best form of government because man is in a constant state of war is a sound assertion because humans have conflicting desires that create a state of war, humans form government to alleviate the state of war, and absolute monarchy provides the most efficient means of providing security that is absent in a state of war. Hobbes articulates a materialist view of man, which asserts life is but a motion of limbs, (Leviathan 3) and that all men are composed of the same materials. It thereby follows that men, or simply matter in motion, desire the same things because they are composed of the same things. Man s similarities go beyond merely his composition. Man relies on certain necessities in order to maintain life. These necessities, such as the need to eat food and drink water, correspond to all of mankind. Therefore, in order to preserve life, ... • 12. Speak, Memory by Vladamir Nabokov To some degree, every artist creates his or her own artistic life preserver, and in doing so resequences and conserves their own artistic DNA so that it may be transferred onto another generation. Vladimir Nabokov s memoir Speak, Memory, is not only that preserver, but the tug boat that it holds onto, heavy and cramped with the memories and history that Nabokov retells his readers against the currents of time. Speak, Memory operates thematically, not chronologically. Nabokov returns anew to his early childhood and pulls in, as it were, the memories associated with certain themes. Then he turns, changes directions, and sets off again. One such theme that resonates throughout the novel is that of exile and deteterritorialization, both ... The extinct tradition learning that is taken on by him is private multilingual tutorship, even if now it seems like a very pluralistic one as it included both Russian, English and French at the same time. It is this because of this multilingual education that Nabokov encounters less wonder in terms of cultural conflicts that usually plights other exiles. Nabokov s traditional aristocratic background accentuates many of his experiences abroad, he internalizes spiritual deteterritorialization and finds enjoyment within it. But it is also this spiritual deterritorialization that follows Nabokov throughout his life that makes his account of his life seem more artistic and disconnected, even if there is a profound emotional impact on the reader in the end. While some moments in his life might evoke sympathy, like his retelling of his father s death, or make readers to take a side, such as the incident with Nesbit during his time in Cambridge, Nabokov keeps the reader at a distance by concealing his feelings in rhetoric. An example of this is the short biography (173) of his father. Using vivid details to describe his father, one can feel the spiritual resonance the experience had on Nabokov. • 13. Macbeth Blood Quotes Is Macbeth really a good person? In Macbeth, by William Shakespeare, the main character Macbeth is married to his wife Lady Macbeth. Macbeth is first the Thane of Glamis then becomes the Thane of Cawdor and then becomes the king of Scotland. Macbeth starts off as a nobody and then becomes a tyrant. The tragic hero evolves throughout the play seen through the blood motif. Macbeth goes from being brave to guilty to brave because of Lady Macbeth s greed for power. At first, blood represents Macbeth s bravery because he is willing to do anything to protect his country. Macbeth shows his bravery by fighting and killing enemies during war: For brave Macbeth (well he deserves that name),/Disdaining Fortune, with his brandished steel,/Which smoked with bloody execution (I. ii. 18 20). The use of the blood motif signifies Macbeth s bravery. Macbeth uses his sword to kill many people who may hurt Scotland. Macbeth is extremely brave in this situation because he is killing people and fighting in a war which is extremely dangerous and risky to himself. Traditional and Alternative Teaching Chapter 1 INTRODUCTION THE PROBLEM AND ITS BACKGROUND It is well known that children learn in various ways and have their own individual styles and strategies. Some may enjoy group works, others individual works. Some may prefer teacher instructions with worksheets and firm direction, rather than self generated research projects. There are numerous ways children learn, but how does the surrounding environment, affects a child s learning ability and influence the learning strategies that employ? Cognitive Leaning Theory A founding father of Cognitive Learning Theory, GagnE (1985) contended that it is more realistic to assume that there are different kinds of learning, arranged in a hierarchy, with one sortbeing the prerequisite for the next. For example, solving an algebraic problem depends on understanding algebraic function, which depends on knowing basic mathematical skills and computations, which depends on recognizing simple numbers and symbols. Conditioning plays a big role because it helps teach children what their role in society is. It constantly teaches the children what is right and wrong whether they are awake or sleeping. Class structure also plays a role in how they control the citizens and how they live their life. Soma has become addicted throughout the community, and people can t go one moment out of their norm. Lenina goes on saying, Oh, I wish I had my soma (Huxley, 116). Lenina is constantly wanted soma whenever she pinpoints something wrong than her norm. This is because she was conditioned to feel this way. A gramme in time saves nine, said Lenina, producing a bright treasure of sleep taught wisdom (Huxley, 89). Social Attitudes In The Great Gatsby I felt a haunting loneliness sometimes, and felt it in others young clerks in the dusk, wasting the most poignant moments of night and life (Fitzgerald, p.xx). This is the feeling one might feel in their lives no matter how much money they have. F. Scott Fitzgerald wrote The Great Gatsby to portray the different social attitudes within the upper class. F. Scott Fitzgerald was born Francis Scott Key Fitzgerald on September 24, 1896 in St. Paul, Minnesota. He was 29 years old when The Great Gatsby was published on April 10, 1925. In The Great Gatsby, Fitzgerald sheds light on the different personalities between the aged rich families and the modern rich families. An example of the sophistication of Gatsby are the elaborate parties he throws for the people he invites, while on the other hand, Tom and Daisy have a simple dinner with only a few people over. The emptiness one might feel at any time in their life cannot be fulfilled with money but only with other friends surrounding one. Gatsby is characterized as a very elaborate man sophisticated in his ways. He is always seen throwing extravagant parties with only the best of the best belongings in his home. One week ends his Rolls Royce became an omnibus, bearing parties to and from the city between nine in the morning and long past midnight, while his station wagon scampered like a brisk yellow bug to meet all trains. ( Melville, p.39). Nick explains the bizarre lifestyle that Gatsby had with all his parties. Although, throughout Gatsby s life, the reader is able to see the emptiness he feels without Daisy. I,m just going to wait here and see if he tries to bother her about that unpleasantness this afternoon. She s locked herself into her room, and if he tries any brutality she s going to turn the light out and on again. (Melville, p.144). Here, the reader recognizes the love Gatsby has for daisy. He is willing to wait all night in order to be sure of her protection. Gatsby has called off all of his parties and fired all of his servants just to spend time with daisy. In doing this, Gatsby shows great qualities that one should look for in another person: love, loyalty, trust, and a kind heart. Unfortunately, these attributes led to Gatsby s death, ... This will be done through a case study of the company John Lewis. It will outline their current organizational model, examine the impact of and their reaction to, the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Hofstede s model has been criticized as having a limited theoretical framework because the surveys he used were not designed with his work in mind, but rather, were for IBM s internal purposes (McSweeney, 2002, cited by Magnusson et al 2008, p. 186). Its vaidity has also been questioned in the absence of a feminine perspective, largely because his surveys were mainly of white middle class men from one company ( Moulettes, 2007, p.443 445). Until the beginning of the world economic recession in September 2008, John Lewis s model could have been considered a very successful one. However, given the current economic climate, John Lewis has been forced to review their organizational structure with a view to the company s survival in the future. For the first time in John Lewis s history, partners have had concerns about their job security. Two events signalled a change in the outlook. Firstly, the company s decision to close the Stevenage distribution plant which had become obsolete with the introduction of the new automated Milton Keynes plant. 200 partners were made redundant by the closure of the Stevenage plant. Secondly, as a result of the overall decline in the company s performance in 2009, it was decided to make another 40 partners from the head office redundant. This has changed the overall mood of the partners, creating feelings of insecurity and questioning the model and their relationship to it. This kind of dissent in the ranks could have ... • 43. Racial Stereotypes of Blacks in the Media Racial Stereotypes of Blacks in the Media The media and stereotypes are two separate entities. However, many times these two matters commingle. The lines begin to blend and soon people may not be able to distinguish between these two affairs. The stereotypes are so welded into what is shown in the media. A stereotype is a generalization of a group of people. In and of themselves, stereotypes are not damaging. Stereotypes become damaging when they distort the view placed on a group of individuals. Unfortunately, the media warps their views on people to the general public for their own gain based on the stereotypes they manifest. The Black race is one that has been greatly affected by these stereotypes. Many believe that there are no biases ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... (14 15). Thoughts of blacks lacking intelligence lasted through the years because blacks were still being casted in roles like those of Amos n Andy. Shipler mentions that Family Matters , a more recent show, presents blacks once again as mentally inferior (301). Steve Eurkle one of the main characters repeatedly gets into bad situations cause by his stupidity. The in studio audience laughs as he exclaims his punch line, Did I do that?! Comedy shows are light hearted and good natured, but the audience must remember that one Black character s incompetency is not typical of all Black people. The stereotypes soon transcend television and enter reality. A Country of Strangers mentions a survey that was conducted. The National Opinion Research Center surveyed about 1,200 Americas in 1990. The questions asked about intellect. The results showed that 53.2 percent rates [blacks] as less intelligent and 40.5 percent saw [blacks] as equally intelligent [as whites] (Shipler 278). The results show that the American public buys into the stereotypes that the media display. What is even sadder is the fact that the survey in Shipler s book also found that Blacks were viewing themselves as less intelligent than Whites. Approximately one third of the Blacks surveyed believed their intelligence to be lower than Whites ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

High fructose corn syrup is a hydrolyzed version of ordinary corn syrup, which is produced via a steeping process. It is so widely used because it is both economically favorable and it helps to preserve food for extended periods of time. However, the drawbacks of high fructose corn syrup include issues like potential obesity, diabetes, loss of liver function, malnutrition, and cancer. The fact that the producers of high fructose corn syrup can deceive people that HFCS is harmless makes matters worse. High fructose corn syrup (HFCS) is an artificial sweetener commonly used in the United States. As its name implies, this ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... As corn will naturally ferment, it is bathed in water containing sulfur dioxide. The water is kept at an elevated temperature at about 120 Fahrenheit for the 40 hour duration of the steeping process. George Inglett indicates that during that time, the corn absorbs water, swelling to its maximum size, and starches are loosened from the protein matrix (79). Soluble components in the corn are also removed during steeping. The steepwater is often recovered, allowed to ferment, and used to make antibiotics in its fermented form. The second major step is milling. After the steepwater is drained, the kernels are sent to degerminating mills. Here, the kernels are torn apart and the oil containing germ is freed in centrifuges. The oil containing germs are ground to separate the starch and gluten from the coarser particles. These two elements are separated with centrifuges, and the extraction of water completes the process of recovery. Finally, the starch and gluten are refined to make pure corn syrup. By extracting different portions of the corn at different times, other products can be produced from basic corn like corn oil, feeds, starches, antibiotics, and other sweeteners. Producing corn syrup is the simple part of making high fructose corn syrup. It took the sugar industry many years to figure out how to increase the fructose content and thus the sweetness of corn syrup. Ordinary ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 47. The Allegheny Woodrat ( Neotoma Magister ) Introduction The Allegheny woodrat (Neotoma magister) is a small mammal that is endemic to the United States. They live in the eastern part of the United States in deciduous forests. Their species can be found from the Appalachian Mountains through the interior Highland regions, including western Connecticut to northern Alabama (Castleberry et al 2006). Woodrats are restricted to areas that have rocky structures such as caves, fissures, and boulder piles and live within the spaces between rocks (Castleberry et al. 2006). Rocky habitats are good living spaces for them because the crevices provide protection from predators and also create a den environment for young to develop. Since rocky areas are usually distributed in patches throughout an environment, woodrats are considered to be metapopulations because their populations are separated (Castleberry et al. 2002). Other animals that can be found using the same rocky habitats for denning, roosting, or nesting include the Rafinesque s big eared bat (Corynorhinus rafinesquii), Townsend s big eared bat (C. townsendii), common raven (Corvus corax), long tailed weasel (Mustela frenata), eastern small footed myotis (Myotis leibii), eastern spotted skunk (Spilogale putorius), and American black bear (Ursus americanus) (Castleberry et al. 2006). The different types of species that live in the community creates competition and leaves woodrat populations vulnerable. Competition and predators are examples of factors that ...
