The Berlin Wall As A Physical Symbol Of The Political,...
Assess the significance of the Berlin Wall as a physical symbol of the political, social and economic
repression in East Germany, particularly East Berlin
The Berlin Wall was a tangible physical symbol of escalating Cold War tensions between the
democratic West and communist Eastern bloc, and its construction facilitated repressive political,
social and economic impacts in East Berlin. On 13 August 1961, the Berlin Wall was suddenly sealed
overnight separating the Soviet occupied eastern sector from the Allied occupied western sectors of
Berlin and has remained in place until its fall on 9 November 1989. The Berlin Wall was a significant
step in solidifying the oppressiveness of Soviet style socialism in the German Democratic Republic
(GDR), reinforced by the Stasi as the main vehicle in perpetuating political repression. As a result of
closing the Berlin Wall, infringements upon social liberties and the suppression of human rights arose
in East Berlin. The Wall represented the GDR s unworkable socialist regime modelled around a
planned economic system as well as the consequential devastating economic decline to East Berlin
and the GDR.
At the pinnacle of hostility and ideological conflict between the Soviet Union and the West, the Berlin
Wall closed the remaining gap in the Iron Curtain, confirming the GDR s political stance and
oppression. To the West, the Wall created influential propaganda evidencing East Germany as a
disastrous state with citizens unwilling to live

The Impact of Electric Vehicles on Greenhouse Gas...
The rising levels of atmospheric greenhouse gases (GHG) caused by the increased use of fossil fuels
for energy services notably transportation, heating, and the generation of electricity is known to be one
of the foremost drivers of climate change. The United States is responsible for one fourth of the world
s total greenhouse gas emissions, representing only 5% of the world population and it becomes the
world s single largest emitter of atmospheric greenhouse gasses (EPA, 2011) . Since 1970, the U.S.
share of net import of crude oil and consumption had been increased significantly and the majority of
the imported liquid based petroleum fuels were used for U.S. transportation sector (EIA, 2010). Today,
the transportation is the second ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
According to the American Clean Energy and Security Act (ACES), the U.S. work towards an
economy wide CO2 cap and trade reduction program to reduce CO2 emissions to 17% below 2005
levels by 2020 (Morrow, Gallagher, Collantes, Lee, 2010).
As part of the United States planned greenhouse gas emissions reduction strategy, it is necessary for
U.S. to consider the effect of new electricity services coming to the transportation sector. One such
service that is gaining widespread interest is the electrification of personal transportation (also referred
to as passenger cars ) using Plug in Electric Vehicles (PEV s). The advantage of electrification of
personal transportation leads to improved air quality and to reduce the U.S s GHG contribution to
global climate change.
In 2007, Electric Power Research Institute (EPRI) and the Natural Resources Defense Council
(NRDC) made a collaborated study on penetration of plug in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEV) and
published it as Environmental Assessment of Plug In Hybrid Electric Vehicles (PHEV), Volume 1:
Nationwide Greenhouse Gas Emissions . The EPRI well to wheels study is based on the data which is
primarily collected from the 48 states of U.S.A. This study compared the well to wheels GHG
emissions per mile for three distinct vehicle types: Conventional gasoline

Canada s Residential Schools On Aboriginal Children
Aboriginal children cannot forget what happened to them in the past. In 1870s, above 150 000
aboriginal children took from their parents to attend Canada s Indian Residential Schools until 1970s
(CBC News, 2010, p 49). The most goals for those schools learned aboriginal children the culture of
European people (CBC News, 2010, p 49). Unfortunately, aboriginal parents have not choice even if
they want to send their children to schools or not (CBC News, 2010, p 49). According to CBC News if
aboriginal children tried to breakout from schools and coming again to their families, they will send
back to their schools by Indian agents (2010, p 49). Moreover, there are negative aspects of Canada s
Residential Schools on aboriginal children, such as they beaten and physically abused if they speak
their native language, do not pay attention in class, or there is no reason (CBC News, 2010, p 50). As a
result, the Truth and Reconciliation Commission (TRC) began in 2009, to gather information about
what happened to aboriginal children on Canada s Indian Residential Schools and share their stories
with all Canadians (CBC News,2010, p 46). The TRC done enough for the survivors of the aboriginal
children in Canada s Residential Schools: collect a historical record, financial compensation, apology,

Faustus, By Dr. Faustus
At the play s outset, Dr. Faustus is in his study contemplating what academic discipline is the most
fulfilling. He reviews a number of disciplines in his mind, such as logic and medicine (which he
believes he is already adequately distinguished in), and law and theology (which he believes to have
inherent inadequacies). Dr. Faustus s route from religion to magic seems to be forcedly cobbled
together in order to elicit a certain emotion towards sophists as a whole, and Marlowe laboriously
thrusts Dr. Faustus into becoming an embodiment of the term thinker in its Momentarily pejorative
context. Faustus is represented on the surface as a free thinker who perhaps thought too much and too
freely in his time, and though Faustus s story was often hailed as a perfect depiction of free thought in
excess, Marlowe seems to be more interested in Faustus s eventual inversion of his epoch s notion that
religion is the necessary vehicle to morality and decency. Faustus is depicted at the play s beginning as
an individual bent on self gratification. His diverse interests and talents, if we are to take his
proclamations of expertise as true, imply that he is not only a very adept individual, but also a rather
insatiable one. This will of course be the downfall of Faustus, however the foreboding nature of even
this first scene carries implications regarding the text s treatment of free thinking, existential
experimentation, and non conformant exploration. Dr. Faustus ventures to the

Memory Foam Essay
Mattresses come in many sizes, shapes, styles and firmness levels. Consumers often feel overwhelmed
when they see the sheer number of options available to them. Following is some information on the
major types of mattresses available today, along with the benefits and drawbacks of each option.
Memory Foam Mattresses
Memory foam mattresses remain the preferred choice of consumers in America, when rating
mattresses on average user satisfaction. For this reason, individuals often turn to this type of mattress
when they want to replace an existing one. In fact, they are often referred to as the ideal all around
mattress for any person, and this helps to explain why approximately 85 percent of individuals now
sleep on this type of bed every night. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This offgassing produced a chemical smell that is unpleasant. This problem can easily be eliminated
by allowing the mattress, pillow or pad to air for a minimum of 24 hours before putting a cover or
sheet over it. This helps to remove the smell. For those who forget to take this step, there is no need
for concern, as the smell doesn t cause a reaction in those individuals using the bed.
Memory foam should not be used with young children. As the memory foam is very soft, carbon
monoxide could become trapped in the bedding. This leads to concern about Sudden Infant Death
Syndrome (SIDS), a syndrome that results in the death of young infants.
One thing to consider when choosing this type of mattress is the type of construction. Some
individuals wish to have a traditional foam or gel infused mattress, yet others prefer one made using
plant based foam. Budget does play a role in which brand is selected, yet manufacturers understand
how popular this type of bed has become and now offer a wide range of products spanning a range of
price points. When two similar mattresses are found, it s best to look at other factors, like customer
service and reliability, when choosing. Don t hesitate to go with a lesser known brand or a lower
quality of mattress, if the bed will only be used occassionally or for a short period of

Geological Disposal Of Nuclear Waste Disposal
If properly executed, nuclear waste disposal need not result in any negative effects on humankind or
our environment. The goal is to build a storage site that is capable of safely storing spent fuel until the
fuel is no longer radioactive. Current radioactive waste is stored at above ground facilities in
vulnerable cooling pools. The long term storage of radioactive waste ought to be in deep underground
engineered facilities. This is known as geological disposal. Geological disposal is the world s
preeminent option when approaching the rapid growth rate of nuclear waste. While numerous
countries have found this to be agreeable, it has become extremely hard to sell local communities on a
site. It is widely believed that if the general public accessed the same information that researchers
have, the community would not fear discussing nuclear waste. Researchers know that geological
disposal s many barriers keep the waste safe from leakage. The scientific community, after decades of
research, has decidedly agreed that geological disposal is the safest option for long term storage of
high level waste and Sweden, a country known for its strict environmental laws, is in the process of
building its disposal sites thanks to their hard work helping its citizens understand where their fears of
nuclear waste stem from and slowly dismissing them.
The general population seems to believe that radioactive waste remains a liquid essentially

Cheating Scandals In College Sports
Since collegiate athletics have begun, there have been all kinds of cheating scandals involving the big
time college sports. College sports today are filled with preventable, scandalous acts made by college
coaches and administrators. An example of this would be the case of fake paper classes at the
University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. I personally believe that the NCAA should not have
imposed any sanctions or allegations amongst the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill for
academic integrity violations, threatening to take away titles, and making athletes ineligible to
compete.
Cheating scandals in collegiate athletics have been happening since the beginning of the NCAA,
ranging from paying players to play, recruiting violations and other cases of academic cheating. One
of the greatest scandals of all time was when the Southern Methodist University football team was
sentenced to the athletic program s death penalty (termination of the program) for paying athletes to
play football for their school (Ribock, 2012). Louisville s case of recruiting violations has been the
most recent. The Cardinals (Louisville) were found to have had athlete held parties with drugs, alcohol
and strippers that were paid over $10,000 in the time period of 2010 to 2014 by former Assistant
Coach Andre McGee, who left after the case opened in 2014. These outrageous parties were held to
persuade the new basketball recruits to attend their school. This case came to a close in

Persuasive Essay On Texting While Driving
Most people believe that only texting is harmful while driving, but talking on the phone may be just as
harmful. While most believe that talking on a cellular device is harmless, it is in fact, a distraction.
The roads would be a much safer place for drivers if the amount of distractions were limited.
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration reveals that there are several reasons why talking
on the phone while driving should be illegal in all states. One of these reasons is that car accidents are
one of the most prevalent causes of death in the United States; and distraction is the number one cause
of car accidents (Currin). Many people think that as long as you talk on the phone using a hands free
device, it is perfectly safe. While many people agree with this, that is not the case. It is not the act of
driving with only one hand that is the problem, but it is that the driver must multitask when processing
the information that the caller is saying. This is especially a concern with emotional conversations
(Svenson and Patten 182).
Some drivers believe that as long as you keep your eyes on the road, it is fine to answer and make
phone calls while driving. This point is not valid, because distraction can be anything averting
concentration, not just looking away from the path of travel (Svenson and Patten 182). Drivers must
become more aware of this problem, especially in our advancing technological age. Many people may
suggest that conversing with a passenger poses the same risks as talking on the phone. This is a valid
point, but David Strayer, a cognitive scientist at the University of Utah, agues that having a passenger
in the vehicle actually promotes safer driving since there are four eyes on the road instead of only two.
Adams writes that Strayer says that passengers tend to stop talking when the demands of driving
increase. The helpfulness of having another set of eyes in the vehicle with the driver does not carry
over with teenaged driving (Adams).
Some might say that as long as the person operating the vehicle is a good driver, his driving skills
should not be affected by talking on the phone while driving. Contrary to popular belief, talking on the
phone while driving, even with a

The overall competitive forces working on the Warehouse Club industry are fairly average. The
highest pressure in the industry comes from industry rivalry and the availability of substitutes. Buyer
bargaining power, supplier bargaining power, and threat of entry are relatively weak. Costco controls

The current strategy Costco s is implementing is working. They should continue to build new
warehouses both in the U.S and overseas. They should continue to attract new members and strive to

increase sales. Jim, on a more personal level, should begin to groom those under him to ensure his
company has continued success and that someone can effectively take his place after he is no longer

5. What actions do you think management at Sam s Club should take to boost revenue growth and
overall financial performance? (10 points)
In order for Sam s to continue to perform it may be necessary for them to imitate some of Costco s
strategy and begin to stock more luxury products. This will expand their clientele by appealing to a
more upscale class of consumers and in effect could steal some of the markets that Costco s operates
in. If implemented correctly, this would effectively improve their overall financial performance.

Don Quixote Satire
Throughout the satire Don Quixote, Cervantes selectively uses humor to emphasize a point in which
he openly disagrees with. Cervantes takes advantage of this humor when he specifically retells the
Marcela and Eugenio s tragic story. In Marcela s story, Marcela becomes a shepherdess in order to
avoid marriage. However her decision leads to one of her suitors killing himself leading to public out
roar. On the other hand, Eugenio retells a story involving his love Leandra. Leandra accidently falls in
love with a soldier who happens to live in her village, however he robs and entombs Leandra in a
cave. Yet, Eugenio feels betrayed by Leandra that he decides to live as a shepherd. When telling the
story, Cervantes limits his humor to certain characters and actions, signaling to the reader when he
agrees or disagrees with a concept. Cervantes uses the contradicting stories to comment on the
detrimental class system plaguing seventeenth century Spain. The contradictory factors involved in
Marcela and Eugenio s story, such as suitors ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Importantly the article explains that Marcela s story comments on the expectancy of society. Jehenson
states that, My interpretive purpose is to show that Cervantes unconventional handling of both the
pastoral genre, and of Marcela within this pastoral episode, are fraught with purposeful ambiguity
(Jehenson 17). Throughout Don Quixote, Cervantes does not handle Marcela similarly to the other
women of the novel. The only time the reader encounters Marcela is during the funeral for a quick
moment before she mysteriously disappears into the forest. Most of the information about Marcela are
rumors spread by the other shepherds; therefore her appearance serves to contradict the rumors spread
by the suitors. Yet Marcela still continues to be a mysterious figure in the

China s Recent Urban Planning
Study Context and Data Sources
2.1 Beijing s Recent Urban Planning
Beijing is the capital of China and one of the most populous cities in the world. The current population
as of 2014 was over 21 million. The area of Beijing Metropolitan Area (BMA) is 16,410 square
kilometers. According to land use dataset of Beijing Institute of City Planning, the total urban area as
of 2012 was 1,675 square kilometers. The BMA currently comprises 16 administrative subdivisions,
as presented in Figure 1.
Figure 1 The Beijing Metropolitan Area Since the latest administrative boundary adjustment of
Beijing in 1958, there have been five urban master plans drafted in 1958, 1973, 1982, 1992 and 2004.
Each master plan was associated with a planned overall land use map. Individual land parcels in the
map were assigned with a land classification of either urban (residential, commercial, industrial,
public green land, and mixed use land) or non urban (farmland, forestland, and wetland) (Long, Gu,
Han, 2012). The maps guide the future urban development, and actual land uses should conform to the
land classification plan.
Since the beginning of the 1990s, the BMA has experienced an unprecedented increase in population
growth and urban development. By the year 2003, Beijing s population and urban built up area had
already surpassed the capacity set forth in the 1992 2010 Master Plan, seven years ahead of the plan s
scheduled expiration date. To address new challenges and plan for greater

Snakes are Infected with Ophidian Paramyxovirus Virus
Ophidian paramyxovirus is a virus that affects snakes, particularly in the family Viperidae; it
compromises the immune system, which can lead to mortality through secondary bacterial infections.
This negative sense, single stranded RNA virus infects the respiratory system and can be transmitted
through feces, respiratory tract secretions, fomites, or vectors such as mites; as such, in captivity, good
husbandry practices are critical to prevent transmission of this disease. Paramyxovirus is a viral
pathogen. The natural host and origin for this virus is unknown, but it is possible that it is not a viperid
(5). The first reported outbreak of paramyxovirus in snakes was in a group of Brazilian lancehead
vipers in a serpentarium in Switzerland (1). These vipers were originally from Brazil, so it is likely
that the origin of the virus is found in Brazil (5). The virus itself is an RNA virus consisting of a
filamentous particle enveloped in a spiked membrane, and can be between 140 and 321 nanometers in
diameter. The virus replicates at an optimal temperature of 30°C, so the disease is a particular concern
in colder seasons (3). This virus is easily transmitted between individuals, particularly when they are
housed close to each other. It is most often transmitted through respiratory secretions (2). It can also
be transmitted through aerosols, such as sputum, and oral and cloacal secretions. The virus may persist
in water and may be spread through feces. It can also be

Electoral Fraud And Electoral Process
Elections put power in the hands of citizens by giving them the ability to choose and replace their
leaders. They are a potent tool for holding leaders accountable and peaceably resolving political and
societal conflict. Because elections determine political winners and losers, however, electoral
processes from voter registration through results reporting have long been targeted for manipulation
by dishonest regimes and political actors, especially in Congo (Brazzaville). Such manipulation or
sometimes the threat of it weakens public confidence in democratic processes, erodes the legitimacy
of governments, and undermines the will of the people. Suspicions of electoral fraud can catalyze
polarization or trigger conflict.
The country of the Congo (Brazzaville) needs to work to build public confidence in elections by
improving the performance and accountability of electoral management bodies, strengthening
meaningful and peaceful political competition, and supporting citizen oversight of electoral processes.
Robust citizen oversight of elections is critical not only because it can help deter and detect electoral
malfeasance, but also because it helps to engage citizens in democratic processes and build trust in
election outcomes.
Background
The potential for fraud overshadows elections around the world, even in long established democracies.
Fair and competitive elections are essential mechanisms for providing public accountability,
transparency, and representation. They

Descriptive Essay On A Restaurant
Smell As I walked in the door, aromas flooded my nostrils; my day as a waitress had begun.
Immediately, bacon sizzling on the grill grabbed my attention then resumed filling the kitchen and the
street air outside with a salted, hickory twist. Taking a deep breath and opening the door to the
waitress station revealed a pot of freshly brewed coffee, its creamy perfume tangled with the bacon
from the kitchen had encased the small town diner. My first customer was an older man. The stench of
his breath was appalling, consisting of only the toxic odor of alcohol which remained from a night of
heavy drinking. A quick ticket, a cup of plain coffee, and a couple sticks of fresh mint gum on the
house set him on a more vibrant route; this, of course, gave him a more tolerable fragrance for the day.
Glancing out the window, I noticed thick, black smoke billowing from the Whitewater Valley train: its
passengers exited, covering their ears to shield from the blare of the horn. As the door opened, the
dense, charcoal fog dragged in along with the new customers. Though, the kitchen buzzed with the
creation of orders before long. As my day ended, I walked out of the diner to my junky old car. The
interior reeked of fruity strawberry and black ice air fresheners, which unsuccessfully attempted to
mask the metallic stain of rust and old gasoline. The A/C was broken, but the crisp, fresh breeze
cooled me as the sun began to wave goodnight to the woodland surrounding the road.

friends. Maybe I even sort of liked her. I don t know, I never really got the chance to know her. She

Social Ineptitudes In Catcher In The Rye
Literature is a powerful tool that allows readers to gain perspectives and to experience firsthand the
thoughts and emotions of characters in any work. Often, it is through these works that a person can
learn a great deal towards becoming a better member of society. However, despite Holden s affinity
for the subject of English and his ability to perceive the nuances of some of the characters from books
he has read, Holden still seems unable to learn from the experiences of these characters. Most
tragically though, it is the characters with whom he tends to associate more and with whom he feels
more of a connection that demonstrate his social ineptitudes, because these characters are in such
similar situations to him. These characters are dealing with common social issues like sexuality,
emotionality, and alienation issues that Holden experiences time and time again yet he does not learn
from the struggles these characters are experiencing, and thus is incapable of applying them to his own
life. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Rock N Roll Music Comparison
To compare Chuck Berry s Rock N Roll Music with Elvis Presley s Hound Dog would be similar to
comparing a granny smith to a golden delicious. Both are apples, and look fairly similar but have a
noticeable difference in texture and taste after the first bite. With almost a decade between both songs,
the exterior shows two songs which are noted as strong contributors to the genre of rock n roll,
following very similar conventions and a focus on the same audience. Yet with a keen ear some
significant changes between the instruments and utilization thereof can be heard. Both songs are
arguably very similar, with a few minor changes that can make a significant difference. One of the
most notable differences is heard almost instantly in the instruments used. Although both songs utilize
the usual suspects, guitar, bass and drums alongside a strong vocal. Yet, a smooth sounding piano can
be heard in the background of Rock n Roll Music providing a consistent and fast riff in the
background. This is substituted in Hound Dog with hand clapping providing a quick and catchy beat.
What this accomplishes is a much more informal feel to Hound Dog, as if something you would hear

Existentialism and its Role Today
The Good Life is an expression representing how one would like to live out their life. In other words,
how that person achieves happiness. The three more relevant theories that correlate to the Good Life
are Daoism, Stoicism, and Existentialism. Since each person defines their happiness differently, each
person has their own opinion as to whether or not what is read to be correct or not. The goal is to at
least shine a light to what everyone seems drawn towards. Existentialism is an important theory to
consider in order to achieve the Good Life. Although existentialism may not appeal to everyone as a
reliable theory to achieve the Good Life, it does elaborate as to how existentialism can be used to

Today, teens are always finding something to do. Whether it be relationships, love, sex, honesty,

Probably yes. Under Minnesota s dog owner s liability statute, section 347.22, a dog owner will be
held to be strictly liable for the full amount of injuries sustained by an affected party, if their dog,
without provocation, attacks or injures an individual who is acting peacefully in any place where the
individual has a lawful right to be. Minn. Stat. Ann. § 347.22 (West, Westlaw through the end of the

The court in Morris found that the injuries sustained by the plaintiff were the direct and immediate
result of the dogs actions, and although no physical contact occurred, the dog s actions caused the
plaintiff to dismount his bicycle quickly, in order to avoid an imminent attack, causing him to fall and
sustain injuries. Similarly, our client never made physical contact with the dogs, sustaining her injuries
when she was thrown from the sled, making direct contact with a tree. Although no physical contact
occurred, the phrase attacks or injures insinuates actions by a dog that directly and proximately
produces injury to the individual the dog attacks or injures. Lewellin, 465 N.W.2d at 65. While one
might challenge that it would be easier to establish direct causation between ones injuries and a dogs
actions through direct contact with the plaintiff, the statute s language merely establishes an
immediate implication by a dogs non hostile behavior, in order to consider the dogs actions be covered
under the language of or injures. While there was no physical contact between Staycia and the sled
dog s, the dogs quick, veering off the fairly narrow path into the woods, caused Staycia to be thrown
through the air, against a tree, invoking a direct and immediate result of the dogs actions of upsetting
the sled. These facts invoke the statute s

Similarities Between Macbeth And Banquo
A homograph is a word that is spelled the same but can be pronounced differently or have different
meanings. Different pronunciations of the word are used based on the context of the sentence it is in.
This same idea is also true of people. Two people can have the exact same experiences, yet react to it
in completely different ways. Characters in literature often reflect this same phenomenon, foil
characters with identical aspects who react differently to circumstance. In Shakespeare s tragic play
Macbeth, Banquo serves as a foil character to Macbeth emphasizing Macbeth s unchecked ambition, a
fatal flaw, that leads to his ultimate moral decline. At the beginning of the story, Shakespeare
establishes the foil between Macbeth and Banquo to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
By encouraging Macbeth not to fear his prophecy, Shakespeare establishes that his foil Banquo also
has a sense of ambition. Unlike Macbeth, however, Banquo has the ability to control his ambition.
These opening scenes establish a foil between Banquo and Macbeth in order to show their shared
positive characteristics prior to Macbeth s moral decline. After Macbeth and Banquo receive
prophecies, the foil characters start to diverge as Banquo s takes the moral path of goodness while
Macbeth takes the immoral path towards his ultimate decline. Banquo and Macbeth have the
opportunity to pursue the same path, but because of his unchecked ambition, Macbeth deviates from
Banquo s path of good morals. Immediately after the witches tell their prophecies, Banquo s mindset
is wary and rational. He warns Macbeth that, oftentimes, to win us to our harm, / the instruments of
darkness tell us truths... (1.3.125 126). Banquo is not obsessed with the prophecies and the idea that
one day his ancestors will be kings. On the other hand, Macbeth speculates, Two truths are told, / as
happy prologues to the swelling act / of the imperial theme. (1.3.130 132) Because two of the three
prophecies have come true, Macbeth is blinded by his ambition and seems to fantasize about the idea
of being king. These contrasting reactions show that Macbeth takes a

How Has Chivalry Changed In The Middle Ages
The act of chivalry has changed dramatically since the middle ages and since The Canterbury Tales
was written. In The Knight s Tale , Chaucer writes about the quest for love between two men who are
in love with the same woman. This quest ends in death for one man and love for the other man.
Chivalry in the middle ages included Knights that were expected to be warriors and attendants to the
King. Knights were expected to fight to the death for love and then represent the kingdom because of
their good deeds. Modern chivalry has changed radically from knightly tasks to gentlemanly acts
towards women. Today men are expected to be polite and respectful towards not only women they are
interested in but to everyone they encounter. Chivalry has become less extreme and therefore less
prevalent in today s society but it is still present in some cases. ... Show more content on

He was to be an ornament in his Lord s court: affable and restrained, eloquent, and skilled in the

appreciated in medieval times. Typically knights fought to the death for a woman s love. In The
Knight s Tale , Chaucer tells the story of Palamon and Arcite and their quest to win the heart of Emily.
Both Palamon and Arcite are thrown in jail after Theseus, lord and ruler of Athens, conquered Thebes.
Palamon and Arcite were found wounded but not dead and were said to be of royal blood so they were

Marina Budhos Characters
When it comes to family you must never give up no matter no matter what the task or how long it
takes, and it is expected that you will go through some mood changes along the way. It is very
ubiquitous that in a novel authors use various characterization techniques to divulge an innovation in
their main character(s). Marina Budhos uses her novel Ask Me No Questions to set an example. In the
novel, it is clear that Nadira is the main character, and Nadira goes through a change of dynamism and
emotion due to Budhos methods. Budhos uses characterization methods to reveal a change in Nadra.
To start off, early in the novel Nadira has built up some envy because Aisha is better than her. The
author used the internal dialogue technique to show the change in Nadra when she says.... She s the
quick one...whom Abba treats like a firstborn son, while I m the slow wit second born who just
follows along . A little burn of envy sears through me right now . It is inferred that Nadira thinks of
Aisha as the favorite child , and she is the one that s just average . She always knows what to say and
when in order to cheer up Abba and Ma. Nadira feels as if she couldn t vie with Aisha when she wants

the story that starts the buildup of her resentment towards Aisha near the end of chapter 4. Nadira
resents Aisha because she is acting perfectly on purpose so Aisha can treat Nadira badly, and Abba and
Ma won t notice because of the way Aisha acts towards them. That is another way that Bush s uses

The Crime Of Computer Forensics
Computer Forensics
In a world where technology is increasingly becoming the way of life, it was only a matter of time
before crime was no longer just in the streets but happening online as well. Criminals now get a new
approach to carry out their crimes with the use of computers. Since technology is more like a murder
mystery than catching the bad guy in the act, a new discipline of forensics needed to be put into place.
This is known as computer forensics. Forensic science is any science used for the purpose of law. In
the case of computer forensics it is the discipline that combines elements of law and computer science
to collect and analyze data from computer systems, networks, wireless communications, and storage
devices in a way that is admissible as evidence in a court of law (U.S. Cert, 2008). Meaning if you do
something illegal on the Internet it can be found. Since the widespread use of computers, computer
crime has caused an increase in computer investigations during the twenty first century. Some reasons
for investigation include: identity theft, such as stolen social security and credit card numbers, to find
evidence of a cheating spouse, to investigate hackers on a computer system, to find evidence of child
pornography, and much more.
History of Computer Forensics
The 1970s were when military investigators first started finding instances of computer related criminal
activity and needed a more comprehensive approach for solving these technical crimes.

Multi-Tiered System Of Support (MTSS)
School districts are facing increasing pressure to adopt universal screening, progress monitoring, and
data based assessments (Civic Impulse, 2016; Every Student Succeeds Acts, 2015; Individuals with

Multi Tiered System of Support (MTSS) framework. MTSS uses data based decision making to
inform instruction and interventions that target academic, social, emotional, and behavioral skills from
early childhood to secondary education (Jimerson, Burn s Van Der Heyden, 2016). An important

Treatment For Adult Male Sex Offenders

Research I Treatment for Adult Male Sex Offenders October 27, 2014 Dr. Chacha Abstract
Introduction The reason for this study is to explain the different types of treatment for adult male sex
offenders. The reason for conducting this research is the interest in getting these offenders effective
treatment. Literature Review History of Sex Offender Treatment Until the mid 1980s the treatment of
sex offenders was conducted primarily in civil commitment programs in a few state hospitals, prisons,
and outpatient clinics scattered around the country. Sex offenders were often treated using a variety of
psychodynamic and client centered techniques. A major shift in the field came in 1983 with the
publication of an article that presented for the first time a relapse prevention model designed for
sexual offenders (Pithers, Marques, Gibat, Marlatt, 1983). Pithers and Marques adapted the work
pioneered by Marlatt for alcoholics. Relapse prevention is essentially a self control model that teaches
the individual to identify and recognize a unique pattern of thoughts, feelings, and situations that
precede and lead to relapses. Relapse in the case of sex offenders is a re offense. This pattern has a
signature quality to it. It is tailored to the cognitive, affective, and situation markers that are unique for
each individual. Once the pattern is fully understood, the individual learns

The First Letter of Apostle Paul’s to the Corinthians Essay
The first letter of Apostle Paul s to the Corinthians that we have access to is normally known as the
book of love, or the book that gets read at weddings (Powell, 273). But when you get down to the nitty
gritty of this epistle to the Corinthians, Paul is addressing many problems that congregation had and
that churches today face.
Before we get into the actual letter and the occasion and purpose of this letter, I want to review a little
of what we know of Corinth and its culture and history. Corinth was the capital of Achaia (Powell,
275) and it has been estimated that in Paul s day the population of Corinth was about 250,000 free
persons, plus as many as 400,000 slaves (Barker, 1732). There are four things I want to touch on about

The temple dedicated to Aphrodite, the goddess of love, whose worshipers practiced what is known as
religious prostitution, is one of the more infamously known. About a quarter of a mile north of the
theater stood the temple of Asclepius, the god of healing and, in the sixth century BCE, the temple of
Apollo stood in the center of the city. In addition to all of these Grecian temples, the Jews had
established a synagogue; the inscribed lintel of it has been found and is in the museum at old Corinth
today (Barker, 1732). Its immorality: Corinth, like any large commercial city, was a center for much
immorality. The worship of Aphrodite fostered prostitution in the name of religion. At one time there
were 1,000 sacred prostitutes serving her temple (Barker, 1732). So widely did the immorality of
Corinth become known that the Romans would use the expression to act like a Corinthian referring to
engaging in sexual promiscuity (Powell, 278).
With all this in mind, no wonder Paul s first recorded letter to the Corinthians dealt with numerous
problems.
The Intended Audience: In the salutation of 1 Corinthians (1:2), Paul addresses the letter to the church
of God in Corinth, to those sanctified in Christ Jesus and called to be holy, together with all those

The Dreamers By Dave Isay
What really defines a dreamer? Is it the children who have unrealistic dreams of playing in the big
leagues or is it someone who has a plan and will go out of his or her way to achieve it? Both of these
options can be true. Dreamers are special in this world because they have hope for something they
believe in. Nothing is more fascinating than seeing an individual who never gave up and worked
extremely hard to reach their goal. Having read only three sections so far, I have explored the
individual s purpose and passion for the work they pursue. The Dreamers section has made me
analyze what I have and want with my future career. Overall, the elements of the book defining
dreamers explains the meaning of a risk taker, the hard work and dedication involved, and the passion
it takes to reach your goals.
Dave Isay strongly connects with his readers in the Dreamers section of Callings. Adventure and
purpose surround this section especially with the bridge tender, street astronomer, and the NBA referee
story. Defining a dreamer can be determined in many ways. As said before, adventure and purpose are
the main components of a dreamer. The information gained from this section is that dreamers have this
sense of hope and passion for the calling they pursue no matter what it is. Individuals such as Herman
Heyn lived out their dream by performing certain tasks. Herman made a living by working as a street
corner astronomer and never worked a day in his life because he

What Role Does Diophantus Play In The Evolution Of Algebra
Algebra is the basis of all math and its advancement took place in three major steps. The first stage of
algebra is rhetorical algebra dating back to before 275 BCE. Rhetorical algebra was a form of algebra
that contained no symbols so to them +, , and*, did not exist. It was usually explained orally or written
on scribes. They were able to do things such as find squad and cubed roots, solve linear equations, and
explain fractions. As well as recognizing irrational numbers and identifying that quadratics had two
answers. The next phase in algebra s evolution was Syncopated math. This was most popularly used
between 275 BCE 1600. Diophantus played a crucial role in this stage by being the first to develop
algebraic notations and abbreviations.

Arguments Against Animal Testing
In this world today we don t think about much. There are multiple things going on behind the scenes,
and we re oblivious to it all. One of those things being animal testing, animal testing is a big problem
in today s society, not many people know what s going on in hiding. Animals can feel pain just like us,
and with some of these experiments, the pain an animal can experience is tremendous. Therefore,
animals should not have to suffer excruciating pain for our beauty products or medicine when there
will always be a first human tester, especially when there are multiple times the test could pass on
animals but not on humans.
Animals can feel pain just like us, no matter what some of us think any living, breathing or moving
thing can feel pain. With animal testing comes a lot of failures on animals which can turn out to be
horrendous. The pain levels animals can feel is beyond the scale of a human s pain tolerance. With that
animals are similar to humans yet very different, which make it harder to trust the drugs and or beauty
products that are being tested on these animals for us. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

How Does Alison Bechdel Use The Labyrinth In Fun Home
In Fun Home, the author, Alison Bechdel uses Greek myths to allude to her relationship with her

Alison and Bruce. The myth of Daedalus infamous labyrinth was built to imprison the horrible
Minotaur, and the story of his son Icarus s death due to his father s desire to escape his prison.
Throughout the entire graphic novel, Bechdel intertwines references to these myths to reinforce the

Or just disappointed by the design failure? (12). Alison assumes that Bruce cares more about how she
dresses, and how his house looks than about her. This leads into the use of the next myth, the myth of
the labyrinth, as it suggests that Bruce plays the role of Daedalus more than Alison. The most
prominent example of this is when Bechdel relates her house and how it s cared for to Daedalus
greatest feat of architecture. Early on Bruce is referenced as the Daedalus of décor (6), and performs
like Daedalus, with dazzling displays of artfulness (9). When Alison was a child, she felt herself to be
someone trapped in the labyrinth, slowly inching their way towards death, and impossible to escape

but it is Bruce himself. He built his mansion in a similar manner to the labyrinth; it demands fear,
intimidation to its attention to detail, and quite literally the ability to act as a labyrinth (20). In this
metaphor as Bruce as Daedalus, that means Alison plays the Minotaur, as by making Alison act and

One of the biggest changes was farming, it was a huge thing before the industrial revolution. It just got
better after. One of the big inventions was the steel plow. The midwestern soil was to thick for normal
iron plows. John Deere made the steel plow to cut through that soil for more farming land. Another
invention was the mechanical reaper. This made farming faster by having the crops mechanically

Pill Bugs And Crickets Lab Report
Abstract:
The purpose of this experiment was to measure the metabolic rate of pill bugs and crickets. I indirectly
measured the metabolic rate of each organism by calculating their respiration rates. In crickets, gas
exchange is accomplished via a tracheal system [Contreras, Bradley, 2010]. Pill bugs have pleopods,
gill like respiratory organs [Gibbs, Smigel, 2008]. My hypothesis was that the crickets will have a
faster respiration rate than the pill bugs. I used a respirometer to measure the oxygen consumption of
pill bugs and crickets. After plotting the data, I used the slope to obtain the respiration rate. The
respiration rate per gram of organism for the pill bugs was 0.0025 mL/min./g. The respiration rate per
gram of organism ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Pill bugs, Armadillidium vulgare, are terrestrial isopods [Gibbs, Smigel, 2008]. Thus, they are not
very well adapted to land [Gibbs, Smigel, 2008]. Water loss is a reoccurring theme because terrestrial
isopods lack cuticular lipids and the elaborate spiracular apparatus of insects [Gibbs, Smigel, 2008].
Most of the water loss is evaporation from the respiratory organs [Gibbs, Smigel, 2008]. The
respiratory organs are called pleopods, and are gill like organs located on the ventral abdominal
segments [Gibbs, Smigel, 2008]. Interestingly, pill bugs are capable of conglobation, the ability to roll
up in a ball [Gibbs, Smigel, 2008]. In addition to protection from predation, conglobation may also
conserve water [Gibbs, Smigel, 2008].
In this experiment, I will be comparing the metabolic rates of two different species. Because they are
two different species, and differ in physiology, I will expect to see a difference in metabolic rate. More
specifically, I expect crickets to have a higher metabolic rate, due to their efficient respiratory system.
Materials and Methods:
The lab handout provided by the instructor was used as a guideline to conduct this experiment. The
only difference was the organism used and data collection period. For this experiment, pill bugs and
crickets were utilized. Also, data was collected for a period of 12 minutes.

The Constitution Understood Essay
The Jeffersonian Republicans are characterized by their strict interpretation of the constitution, in stark
contrast with the Federalists loose or broad interpretation. The Federalists believed that anything the
constitution did not forbid it permitted, contrary to the Jeffersonian view that anything it did not
permit it forbade. The Federalists advocated the necessary and proper clause, and their faith rested
heavily in the virtue of implied powers. The Jeffersonian party believed that all powers not
specifically granted to the central government were reserved to the states, disregarding the implication
of inferred powers. In the late 1700 s both Jefferson and Madison organized an opposition to
Hamilton, a federalist. During ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This is a direct reference to the supporters of the Federalist Party and its loose interpretation of the
nation s charter. In this statement Jefferson expresses a belief that the Federalist Party is threatening
the Union. nbsp; nbsp; nbsp; nbsp; nbsp; One of the major aspects of the Federalist argument is that
anything not forbade in the Constitution is permitted, while the Republicans commend the contrary.
Jefferson displays his support for the latter, while speaking with, Presbyterian minister, Samuel Miller.
Regarding the governments intermeddling in religious institutions he proclaims no power to prescribe
any religious exercise, or to assume authority in religious discipline, has been delegated to the general
government . This further shows his support of the states and their rights; he goes on to say it must
then rest with the states, as far as it can be in any human authority... . nbsp; nbsp; nbsp; nbsp;
nbsp;James Madison, as did Jefferson, supported states rights. Similar to the issue of government and
religion, Madison in an address to congress vetoed an Internal Improvement Bill, based on the fact
that this power is not granted in the constitution. He stated the power to regulate commerce among the
several states cannot include a power to construct roads and canals . He continued in saying that such

The Problem Of Plastic Surgery
Valeria Lukyanova, a Romanian young woman had more than a hundred surgeries in order to look like
Barbie. She decided to have a huge number of plastic surgeries, regardless of the price, just to reach
her ideal physical appearance. As shocking as it can be, these examples make people realize that looks
are very important in our society and that plastic surgery is therefore becoming a little too common.
Today a real addiction to plastic surgery might be threatening our world.
Plastic surgery is spreading more and more nowadays due to better knowledge in medicine but also to
the changes in people s attitudes and state of mind. It used to be a way to help people in real need but
is now used for small details people want to change, because their look mostly determines their level
of self esteem. In fact, beauty is taking a lot of importance and so does sexiness . The image of the
perfect human given by the media has been changing the way people see themselves. Plastic surgery
has become more common because it is an easy way to change physical appearance. However, the
number of eating disorders has also increased but for people who can afford it, it is always more
convenient to get an operation.
Plastic surgery should not be as common because it makes people fake in a way. It occurs when
people are obsessed with their looks and will have as many surgeries as they can to be as close to their
perfection as they can be. It can be said that there is an addiction to plastic surgery

Relationship Between A Manufacturer And A Distributor
Writing Assignment #2
The relationship between a manufacturer and a distributor is a crucial part in the success of a business
alliance or partnership. It is necessary to pay close attention to the relationship between manufacturers
and distributors in terms of trust, alliances and conflict. Manufacturers and distributors should select
each other appropriately and wisely because each member of the supply chain has different
expectations for the other. The most common two paths for a manufacturer to enter the market through
distribution are exclusively and non exclusively. Information on relations and channel paths is
significant because it will be easier be able to include them in my other projects and classes
throughout the rest of academic and professional careers.
The most vital concepts I learned in IDIS 340 is how important it is for manufacturers and distributors
to choose the right business partners. Market share is the main driver for manufacturers, so they must
turn their attention to distributors that have a wide range of access to the market. Profitability is the
primary focus of distributors so they should choose manufacturers that have a strong market brand,
supply the appropriate products to meet the market s demands, and offers a technical sales team.
Sharing common goals and visions is perhaps the most significant element in choosing how to align a
manufacturer and distributor.
After aligning with proper distributors, manufacturers have expectations that they

An Evidence Vitro For The Influence Of Bisphenol A On Uterine
Synopsis of An evidence in vitro for the influence of bisphenol A on uterine leiomyoma 1.
Introduction
Uterine fibroids are the most common noncancerous growths of the uterus also known as leiomyomas
or myomas. They are not usually associated with an increased risk of uterine cancer and almost never
develop into cancer but are considered as a common cause of hysterectomy.
Gynecological researchers consider that the increase in the incidence of this type of tumor is related to
the presence of exogenous estrogens in the environment, classifying these uterine fibroids as
hormonally responsive tumors.
The use of phenolic estrogens in the manufacture of plastic, resins, and several others, created a risk
for the human and environment since the exposure and pollution due to these chemicals has increased
significantly. Among these phenolic estrogens is Bisphenol A (BPA) which is considered to influence
the development of uterine fibroids. However, the role of environment estrogens in the promotion of
the growth of uterine fibroids, and its mechanism of action are not completely established.
The authors of this paper performed a series of evaluations and observations expecting to identify the
effect and mechanism of BPA on uterine leiomyoma (UL) cells. In this study UL cells were exposed to
different concentrations of BPA to observe the cell, the protein expression was monitored for changes
in expression of estrogen receptor alpha (ERα), insulin like growth factor 1 (IGF 1)

his father s experiences in the holocaust in the form of a graphic novel. Spiegelman describes his
father s present day life and their interactions, to give the reader a view of a holocaust survivor s life:
before, during, and after the holocaust. Art and his father, Vladek, are the two protagonists of the
comic and each chapter begins and ends with Art s experience while writing the novel, while the bulk
of each chapter is filled with Vladek s flashbacks to his experiences during the holocaust. Each

what give the image its power (81). They are shaded with big black circles around them that make her

faces in the chapter. Vladek is told a few months later that the family must be relocated. He says, All

  • 2. The Berlin Wall As A Physical Symbol Of The Political,... Assess the significance of the Berlin Wall as a physical symbol of the political, social and economic repression in East Germany, particularly East Berlin The Berlin Wall was a tangible physical symbol of escalating Cold War tensions between the democratic West and communist Eastern bloc, and its construction facilitated repressive political, social and economic impacts in East Berlin. On 13 August 1961, the Berlin Wall was suddenly sealed overnight separating the Soviet occupied eastern sector from the Allied occupied western sectors of Berlin and has remained in place until its fall on 9 November 1989. The Berlin Wall was a significant step in solidifying the oppressiveness of Soviet style socialism in the German Democratic Republic (GDR), reinforced by the Stasi as the main vehicle in perpetuating political repression. As a result of closing the Berlin Wall, infringements upon social liberties and the suppression of human rights arose in East Berlin. The Wall represented the GDR s unworkable socialist regime modelled around a planned economic system as well as the consequential devastating economic decline to East Berlin and the GDR. At the pinnacle of hostility and ideological conflict between the Soviet Union and the West, the Berlin Wall closed the remaining gap in the Iron Curtain, confirming the GDR s political stance and oppression. To the West, the Wall created influential propaganda evidencing East Germany as a disastrous state with citizens unwilling to live ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The rising levels of atmospheric greenhouse gases (GHG) caused by the increased use of fossil fuels for energy services notably transportation, heating, and the generation of electricity is known to be one of the foremost drivers of climate change. As part of the United States planned greenhouse gas emissions reduction strategy, it is necessary for U.S. to consider the effect of new electricity services coming to the transportation sector. One such service that is gaining widespread interest is the electrification of personal transportation (also referred to as passenger cars ) using Plug in Electric Vehicles (PEV s). The advantage of electrification of personal transportation leads to improved air quality and to reduce the U.S s GHG contribution to global climate change. In 2007, Electric Power Research Institute (EPRI) and the Natural Resources Defense Council (NRDC) made a collaborated study on penetration of plug in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEV) and published it as Environmental Assessment of Plug In Hybrid Electric Vehicles (PHEV), Volume 1: Nationwide Greenhouse Gas Emissions . The EPRI well to wheels study is based on the data which is primarily collected from the 48 states of U.S.A. In 1870s, above 150 000 aboriginal children took from their parents to attend Canada s Indian Residential Schools until 1970s (CBC News, 2010, p 49). The most goals for those schools learned aboriginal children the culture of European people (CBC News, 2010, p 49). Unfortunately, aboriginal parents have not choice even if they want to send their children to schools or not (CBC News, 2010, p 49). According to CBC News if aboriginal children tried to breakout from schools and coming again to their families, they will send back to their schools by Indian agents (2010, p 49). Moreover, there are negative aspects of Canada s Residential Schools on aboriginal children, such as they beaten and physically abused if they speak their native language, do not pay attention in class, or there is no reason (CBC News, 2010, p 50). As a result, the Truth and Reconciliation Commission (TRC) began in 2009, to gather information about what happened to aboriginal children on Canada s Indian Residential Schools and share their stories with all Canadians (CBC News,2010, p 46). • 5. Faustus, By Dr. Faustus At the play s outset, Dr. Faustus is in his study contemplating what academic discipline is the most fulfilling. He reviews a number of disciplines in his mind, such as logic and medicine (which he believes he is already adequately distinguished in), and law and theology (which he believes to have inherent inadequacies). Dr. Faustus s route from religion to magic seems to be forcedly cobbled together in order to elicit a certain emotion towards sophists as a whole, and Marlowe laboriously thrusts Dr. Faustus into becoming an embodiment of the term thinker in its Momentarily pejorative context. Faustus is represented on the surface as a free thinker who perhaps thought too much and too freely in his time, and though Faustus s story was often hailed as a perfect depiction of free thought in excess, Marlowe seems to be more interested in Faustus s eventual inversion of his epoch s notion that religion is the necessary vehicle to morality and decency. Faustus is depicted at the play s beginning as an individual bent on self gratification. His diverse interests and talents, if we are to take his proclamations of expertise as true, imply that he is not only a very adept individual, but also a rather insatiable one. This will of course be the downfall of Faustus, however the foreboding nature of even this first scene carries implications regarding the text s treatment of free thinking, existential experimentation, and non conformant exploration. Following is some information on the major types of mattresses available today, along with the benefits and drawbacks of each option. Memory Foam Mattresses Memory foam mattresses remain the preferred choice of consumers in America, when rating mattresses on average user satisfaction. For this reason, individuals often turn to this type of mattress when they want to replace an existing one. In fact, they are often referred to as the ideal all around mattress for any person, and this helps to explain why approximately 85 percent of individuals now sleep on this type of bed every night. ... This problem can easily be eliminated by allowing the mattress, pillow or pad to air for a minimum of 24 hours before putting a cover or sheet over it. This helps to remove the smell. For those who forget to take this step, there is no need for concern, as the smell doesn t cause a reaction in those individuals using the bed. Memory foam should not be used with young children. As the memory foam is very soft, carbon monoxide could become trapped in the bedding. This leads to concern about Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS), a syndrome that results in the death of young infants. One thing to consider when choosing this type of mattress is the type of construction. Some individuals wish to have a traditional foam or gel infused mattress, yet others prefer one made using plant based foam. Budget does play a role in which brand is selected, yet manufacturers understand how popular this type of bed has become and now offer a wide range of products spanning a range of price points. The goal is to build a storage site that is capable of safely storing spent fuel until the fuel is no longer radioactive. This is known as geological disposal. Geological disposal is the world s preeminent option when approaching the rapid growth rate of nuclear waste. While numerous countries have found this to be agreeable, it has become extremely hard to sell local communities on a site. Researchers know that geological disposal s many barriers keep the waste safe from leakage. The scientific community, after decades of research, has decidedly agreed that geological disposal is the safest option for long term storage of high level waste and Sweden, a country known for its strict environmental laws, is in the process of building its disposal sites thanks to their hard work helping its citizens understand where their fears of nuclear waste stem from and slowly dismissing them. I personally believe that the NCAA should not have imposed any sanctions or allegations amongst the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill for academic integrity violations, threatening to take away titles, and making athletes ineligible to compete. Cheating scandals in collegiate athletics have been happening since the beginning of the NCAA, ranging from paying players to play, recruiting violations and other cases of academic cheating. • 9. Persuasive Essay On Texting While Driving Most people believe that only texting is harmful while driving, but talking on the phone may be just as harmful. While most believe that talking on a cellular device is harmless, it is in fact, a distraction. The roads would be a much safer place for drivers if the amount of distractions were limited. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration reveals that there are several reasons why talking on the phone while driving should be illegal in all states. One of these reasons is that car accidents are one of the most prevalent causes of death in the United States; and distraction is the number one cause of car accidents (Currin). Many people think that as long as you talk on the phone using a hands free device, it is perfectly safe. While many people agree with this, that is not the case. It is not the act of driving with only one hand that is the problem, but it is that the driver must multitask when processing the information that the caller is saying. This is especially a concern with emotional conversations (Svenson and Patten 182). Some drivers believe that as long as you keep your eyes on the road, it is fine to answer and make phone calls while driving. This point is not valid, because distraction can be anything averting concentration, not just looking away from the path of travel (Svenson and Patten 182). Drivers must become more aware of this problem, especially in our advancing technological age. Many people may suggest that conversing with a passenger poses the same risks as talking on the phone. This is a valid point, but David Strayer, a cognitive scientist at the University of Utah, agues that having a passenger in the vehicle actually promotes safer driving since there are four eyes on the road instead of only two. Adams writes that Strayer says that passengers tend to stop talking when the demands of driving increase. The helpfulness of having another set of eyes in the vehicle with the driver does not carry over with teenaged driving (Adams). Some might say that as long as the person operating the vehicle is a good driver, his driving skills should not be affected by talking on the phone while driving. • 14. Snakes are Infected with Ophidian Paramyxovirus Virus Ophidian paramyxovirus is a virus that affects snakes, particularly in the family Viperidae; it compromises the immune system, which can lead to mortality through secondary bacterial infections. This negative sense, single stranded RNA virus infects the respiratory system and can be transmitted through feces, respiratory tract secretions, fomites, or vectors such as mites; as such, in captivity, good husbandry practices are critical to prevent transmission of this disease. Paramyxovirus is a viral pathogen. The natural host and origin for this virus is unknown, but it is possible that it is not a viperid (5). The first reported outbreak of paramyxovirus in snakes was in a group of Brazilian lancehead vipers in a serpentarium in Switzerland (1). These vipers were originally from Brazil, so it is likely that the origin of the virus is found in Brazil (5). The virus itself is an RNA virus consisting of a filamentous particle enveloped in a spiked membrane, and can be between 140 and 321 nanometers in diameter. The virus replicates at an optimal temperature of 30°C, so the disease is a particular concern in colder seasons (3). This virus is easily transmitted between individuals, particularly when they are housed close to each other. It is most often transmitted through respiratory secretions (2). They are a potent tool for holding leaders accountable and peaceably resolving political and societal conflict. Because elections determine political winners and losers, however, electoral processes from voter registration through results reporting have long been targeted for manipulation by dishonest regimes and political actors, especially in Congo (Brazzaville). Such manipulation or sometimes the threat of it weakens public confidence in democratic processes, erodes the legitimacy of governments, and undermines the will of the people. Suspicions of electoral fraud can catalyze polarization or trigger conflict. The country of the Congo (Brazzaville) needs to work to build public confidence in elections by improving the performance and accountability of electoral management bodies, strengthening meaningful and peaceful political competition, and supporting citizen oversight of electoral processes. Robust citizen oversight of elections is critical not only because it can help deter and detect electoral malfeasance, but also because it helps to engage citizens in democratic processes and build trust in election outcomes. My first customer was an older man. The stench of his breath was appalling, consisting of only the toxic odor of alcohol which remained from a night of heavy drinking. A quick ticket, a cup of plain coffee, and a couple sticks of fresh mint gum on the house set him on a more vibrant route; this, of course, gave him a more tolerable fragrance for the day. Marina Budhos Characters When it comes to family you must never give up no matter no matter what the task or how long it takes, and it is expected that you will go through some mood changes along the way. It is very ubiquitous that in a novel authors use various characterization techniques to divulge an innovation in their main character(s). Marina Budhos uses her novel Ask Me No Questions to set an example. In the novel, it is clear that Nadira is the main character, and Nadira goes through a change of dynamism and emotion due to Budhos methods. Budhos uses characterization methods to reveal a change in Nadra. To start off, early in the novel Nadira has built up some envy because Aisha is better than her. The author used the internal dialogue technique to show the change in Nadra when she says.... She s the quick one...whom Abba treats like a firstborn son, while I m the slow wit second born who just follows along . A little burn of envy sears through me right now . It is inferred that Nadira thinks of Aisha as the favorite child , and she is the one that s just average . She always knows what to say and when in order to cheer up Abba and Ma. The Crime Of Computer Forensics Computer Forensics In a world where technology is increasingly becoming the way of life, it was only a matter of time before crime was no longer just in the streets but happening online as well. Criminals now get a new approach to carry out their crimes with the use of computers. Since technology is more like a murder mystery than catching the bad guy in the act, a new discipline of forensics needed to be put into place. This is known as computer forensics. Forensic science is any science used for the purpose of law. In the case of computer forensics it is the discipline that combines elements of law and computer science to collect and analyze data from computer systems, networks, wireless communications, and storage devices in a way that is admissible as evidence in a court of law (U.S. Cert, 2008). Meaning if you do something illegal on the Internet it can be found. Since the widespread use of computers, computer crime has caused an increase in computer investigations during the twenty first century. Some reasons for investigation include: identity theft, such as stolen social security and credit card numbers, to find evidence of a cheating spouse, to investigate hackers on a computer system, to find evidence of child pornography, and much more. History of Computer Forensics The 1970s were when military investigators first started finding instances of computer related criminal activity and needed a more comprehensive approach for solving these technical crimes. ... The reason for conducting this research is the interest in getting these offenders effective treatment. Literature Review History of Sex Offender Treatment Until the mid 1980s the treatment of sex offenders was conducted primarily in civil commitment programs in a few state hospitals, prisons, and outpatient clinics scattered around the country. Sex offenders were often treated using a variety of psychodynamic and client centered techniques. A major shift in the field came in 1983 with the publication of an article that presented for the first time a relapse prevention model designed for sexual offenders (Pithers, Marques, Gibat, Marlatt, 1983). Pithers and Marques adapted the work pioneered by Marlatt for alcoholics. Relapse prevention is essentially a self control model that teaches the individual to identify and recognize a unique pattern of thoughts, feelings, and situations that precede and lead to relapses. Relapse in the case of sex offenders is a re offense. This pattern has a signature quality to it. It is tailored to the cognitive, affective, and situation markers that are unique for each individual. Once the pattern is fully understood, the individual learns ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Before we get into the actual letter and the occasion and purpose of this letter, I want to review a little of what we know of Corinth and its culture and history. Corinth was the capital of Achaia (Powell, 275) and it has been estimated that in Paul s day the population of Corinth was about 250,000 free persons, plus as many as 400,000 slaves (Barker, 1732). The temple dedicated to Aphrodite, the goddess of love, whose worshipers practiced what is known as religious prostitution, is one of the more infamously known. About a quarter of a mile north of the theater stood the temple of Asclepius, the god of healing and, in the sixth century BCE, the temple of Apollo stood in the center of the city. In addition to all of these Grecian temples, the Jews had established a synagogue; the inscribed lintel of it has been found and is in the museum at old Corinth today (Barker, 1732). Its immorality: Corinth, like any large commercial city, was a center for much immorality. The worship of Aphrodite fostered prostitution in the name of religion. At one time there were 1,000 sacred prostitutes serving her temple (Barker, 1732). So widely did the immorality of Corinth become known that the Romans would use the expression to act like a Corinthian referring to engaging in sexual promiscuity (Powell, 278). With all this in mind, no wonder Paul s first recorded letter to the Corinthians dealt with numerous problems. Is it the children who have unrealistic dreams of playing in the big leagues or is it someone who has a plan and will go out of his or her way to achieve it? Both of these options can be true. Dreamers are special in this world because they have hope for something they believe in. Nothing is more fascinating than seeing an individual who never gave up and worked extremely hard to reach their goal. Having read only three sections so far, I have explored the individual s purpose and passion for the work they pursue. The Dreamers section has made me analyze what I have and want with my future career. Overall, the elements of the book defining dreamers explains the meaning of a risk taker, the hard work and dedication involved, and the passion it takes to reach your goals. Dave Isay strongly connects with his readers in the Dreamers section of Callings. Adventure and purpose surround this section especially with the bridge tender, street astronomer, and the NBA referee story. Defining a dreamer can be determined in many ways. As said before, adventure and purpose are the main components of a dreamer. The information gained from this section is that dreamers have this sense of hope and passion for the calling they pursue no matter what it is. The most prominent example of this is when Bechdel relates her house and how it s cared for to Daedalus greatest feat of architecture. • 42. Pill Bugs And Crickets Lab Report Abstract: The purpose of this experiment was to measure the metabolic rate of pill bugs and crickets. I indirectly measured the metabolic rate of each organism by calculating their respiration rates. In crickets, gas exchange is accomplished via a tracheal system [Contreras, Bradley, 2010]. Pill bugs have pleopods, gill like respiratory organs [Gibbs, Smigel, 2008]. My hypothesis was that the crickets will have a faster respiration rate than the pill bugs. I used a respirometer to measure the oxygen consumption of pill bugs and crickets. After plotting the data, I used the slope to obtain the respiration rate. The respiration rate per gram of organism for the pill bugs was 0.0025 mL/min./g. The respiration rate per gram of organism ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Pill bugs, Armadillidium vulgare, are terrestrial isopods [Gibbs, Smigel, 2008]. Thus, they are not very well adapted to land [Gibbs, Smigel, 2008]. Water loss is a reoccurring theme because terrestrial isopods lack cuticular lipids and the elaborate spiracular apparatus of insects [Gibbs, Smigel, 2008]. Most of the water loss is evaporation from the respiratory organs [Gibbs, Smigel, 2008]. The respiratory organs are called pleopods, and are gill like organs located on the ventral abdominal segments [Gibbs, Smigel, 2008]. Interestingly, pill bugs are capable of conglobation, the ability to roll up in a ball [Gibbs, Smigel, 2008]. In addition to protection from predation, conglobation may also conserve water [Gibbs, Smigel, 2008]. In this experiment, I will be comparing the metabolic rates of two different species. Because they are two different species, and differ in physiology, I will expect to see a difference in metabolic rate. More specifically, I expect crickets to have a higher metabolic rate, due to their efficient respiratory system. • 47. Relationship Between A Manufacturer And A Distributor Writing Assignment #2 The relationship between a manufacturer and a distributor is a crucial part in the success of a business alliance or partnership. It is necessary to pay close attention to the relationship between manufacturers and distributors in terms of trust, alliances and conflict. Manufacturers and distributors should select each other appropriately and wisely because each member of the supply chain has different expectations for the other. The most common two paths for a manufacturer to enter the market through distribution are exclusively and non exclusively. Information on relations and channel paths is significant because it will be easier be able to include them in my other projects and classes throughout the rest of academic and professional careers. The most vital concepts I learned in IDIS 340 is how important it is for manufacturers and distributors to choose the right business partners. • 49. An Evidence Vitro For The Influence Of Bisphenol A On Uterine Synopsis of An evidence in vitro for the influence of bisphenol A on uterine leiomyoma 1. Introduction Uterine fibroids are the most common noncancerous growths of the uterus also known as leiomyomas or myomas. They are not usually associated with an increased risk of uterine cancer and almost never develop into cancer but are considered as a common cause of hysterectomy. Gynecological researchers consider that the increase in the incidence of this type of tumor is related to the presence of exogenous estrogens in the environment, classifying these uterine fibroids as hormonally responsive tumors. The use of phenolic estrogens in the manufacture of plastic, resins, and several others, created a risk for the human and environment since the exposure and pollution due to these chemicals has increased significantly. Among these phenolic estrogens is Bisphenol A (BPA) which is considered to influence the development of uterine fibroids. However, the role of environment estrogens in the promotion of the growth of uterine fibroids, and its mechanism of action are not completely established. The authors of this paper performed a series of evaluations and observations expecting to identify the effect and mechanism of BPA on uterine leiomyoma (UL) cells. In this study UL cells were exposed to different concentrations of BPA to observe the cell, the protein expression was monitored for changes in expression of estrogen receptor alpha (ERα), insulin like growth factor 1 (IGF 1) ... Vladek is told a few months later that the family must be relocated. He says, All 12 of our household were given now to live in 2 ½ small rooms (82). Even though his family comes from wealth they don t receive any special privileges and they are forced to basically live on top of each other in 2 ½ rooms.
