What Are The Characteristics Of The Dutch Republic
In this time, the Dutch Republic will let you publish any book and will let anyone say what they think
no matter if it is against the government or anyone or anything. That is a trait of the Dutch Republic
that no other country would let that happen, they will probably kill the person that published a
controversial book if anyone did so out of the Dutch republic. The Dutch are also very open to new
ideas and opinions, like the ideas that the Earth orbits the Sun and that the Earth is round. Also the
Dutch really like painting, science and basically learning, they are open to any idea and will try to
come up with their own ideas too and try to help each other with their ideas. They are also a very
supporting community, especially in the science ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Also there are lots of artists like the Golden Boy Rembrandt and lots more, but a very big difference
between our artists and the artists in France is that our artists can paint for more people not only the
church, they could paint for the Regenten or for people with enough money to pay them, of course that
doesn t assure you to become some kind of superstar for appearing in a Rembrandt painting because
you might not appear in the front or even be seen. The Dutch Republic is also widely known for the
smartness and intelligence of the Dutch and their people, they most probably have a very high IQ :).
They are very smart because they really like learning and they learn a lot and their intelligence and
open mindedness makes them learn faster and more things in the same time as other people might
learn half what they learn in the same time because they are really open minded and they are also very
intelligent and creative. Also people really like each other in the Dutch Republic and they get really
well with each other, they don t care if they are jewish or muslim or christian or of any religion, they
treat them the same way as they treat their

Theme Of Flowers For Algernon
One in 25 Americans live with a serious mental illness, in the story Flowers for Algernon the author,
Daniel Keyes tells the story of Charlie Gordon a mentally disabled man that neurosurgeons try to help
by doing an operation to raise his IQ and test his brain using a mouse named algernon that had the
same operation as him and does the same tests as him to see how much charlie s IQ has improved but
when a sudden turn in events occurs and algernon dies, charlie expects a sudden end. Daniel Keyes,
the author for Flowers For Algernon , creates the theme, changing the way of nature can lead to
consequences.

the present time) to the increase of human intelligence. This quote shows that Dr.Strauss and nemur
doubted the capability of increasing the intelligence in a human subject but, continued the experiment
anyways which lead to charlie getting his hopes up and becoming smarter then it suddenly stops
working and charlie goes back to him old self and even worse has a sudden end to life itself. Also In

he was highly intelligent he finally felt smart but slowly started to feel himself becoming mentally

down his confidence like their was no chance. Daniel Keyes also uses the experiment to portray the

Hi Brain Reflection
Hi Brain, Yesterday I participated in an amazing webcast with one of the Governors of the Fed, Gov.
Lael Brainard. She spoke for a a good amount of time about her role at the fed and then eventually
opened it up for questions. I was able to ask about the growing opportunity in marketplace lending.
She was really interested in the question and said that she foresaw a more prominent role of this new
lending in the economy. I was also able to get her contact information (albeit behind a locked door
where I know someone who will pass along the question and the subsequent response). I wanted to
know if you had anything you would like me to ask her! Lastly, I have a meeting with one to the
directors of the Grinnell Endowment. She emailed me asking

Why Can Hipsters Be Considered A Counterculture
Hipsterism has become an extremely popular counterculture in society. According to Zev Borow, the
hipster culture primarily focuses on individuality , uniqueness , and free thinking (Borow). Hipsters
have also been known to have a passion for music, food, social life, and style. Although hipsters are
often misunderstood to some people in society, they love what they do and have fun while doing it
which is what matters the most. The hipster counterculture has had a huge impact on society by
providing a platform for people to express themselves.
The modern day hipster movement became popular in the early 90 s (Smith). This counterculture didn

The fact that the hipster counterculture was created for those who don t fit in or feel they don t acquire
a sense of belonging in a typical mainstream culture says something in itself (Mckenzie). One big
reason as to why hipsters has since become popular is because they provide a safe haven for those
who are fond of individuality and for those who don t affiliate with the mainstream crowd. Giving
them freedom to freely express themselves without societal pressures on them. Due to the hipsters
reject to traditional society, many critics have now attached negative connotations to the word.
Making anybody who claims to be a hipster looked down upon. Since then society has viewed hipsters
as arrogant, [demanding] and direct people that nobody like to associate with (Mckenzie). Along with
that hipsters are also viewed as people who give off the vibe that they just don t care (Fletcher).
Although, critics give hipsters many negative feedback, when you get to know a real hipster and not
some poser, they are actually down to earth, expressive people (Mckenzie). The hipsters way of life is
different from the norm making it more comfortable to people. Not always trying to fit in and trying to
be updated is a big stress relief off many people who chose to become

Differences Between Stand By Me And The Goonies
There are many 1980 s movies about kids going on adventures, but Stand by Me and The Goonies are
two movies that took the idea of the average adventure movie and made it more relatable to many
different audiences. They are both about young, outcasted children, primarily boys, going on a life
changing adventure with their close friends, but the movies are narrated differently. Stand by Me and
The Goonies offer two very different approaches to the classic coming of age genre; the storylines
differ greatly because Stand by Me is more serious and realistic, while The Goonies is hilariously
unrealistic and more about the fun of the adventure. Unlike The Goonies, Stand by Me has many more
serious moments, making this movie more relatable to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The characters in Stand by Me are also very realistic and relatable to the average person. Even though
The Goonies are about kids who are outcasts, the kids in Stand by Me are closer to the actual
definition of an outcast, which is someone who has been rejected by society. Specifically the character
Chris Chambers, who is a perfect example of an outcast. Because his family has a bad name, he has
been labeled as the problem child in the town. Although he has done many bad things, he is blamed
for things that he has not done, which makes him relatable to many children. In The Goonies, the kids
are relatable in a way but Stand by Me s characters go deeper than that. The Goonies is a hilariously
unrealistic movie about a group of young friends searching for a treasure filled pirate ship, setting off
many booby traps, and running away from money hungry criminals. In this movie, a group of young
boys find a treasure map in an attic and go on an adventure to save their neighborhood from being
replaced by a golf course. Although there are a few moments in this movie that could be serious, those
moments are quickly changed back to the movie s normal humerus and fun loving demeanor. In The
Goonies there are many ridiculous booby traps that the famous pirate One Eyed Willie set up that the
group of friends ran into multiple times. The very first

The No Child Left Behind ( Nclb ) Act Launching America s...
In 2001, President George W. Bush signed the No Child Left Behind (NCLB) Act launching America
s education system into an era of standardized testing as a method of holding states and schools
accountable for student achievement. With this recent surge of high stakes standardized testing,
teachers are held to increasingly higher expectations of quality instruction and meeting these
standards. However, schools are unprepared in achieving the goals of NCLB resulting in years of
struggle to improve student success in testing due to flaws in the traditional grading system. Current
schools and teachers lack proper grading practices that are inadequate of accurately representing
student achievement. With the increased focus on standards, it is imperative that schools begin to
implement an effective grading system so that all students and parents are provided accurate feedback
of students abilities.
There are myriad unforeseen consequences when schools use the traditional grading system. For the
past century, traditional grading practices and policies that have contributed to much of the failure of
student achievement. The use of the traditional grading system has slowly led to the major issue of
grade inflation. Most often students grade tend to be inflated with the help of non academic factors
such as homework, participation and student effort. High school teachers tend include effort as part of
the grade, giving high grades to students who work in class despite whether they

The Life and Times of Claude McKay Essay
The life and Writings of Claude McKay
Introduction
Every literary period can be defined by a group of writers. For the Harlem Renaissance, which was an
extraordinary eruption of creativity among Black Americans in all fields of art, Claude McKay was
the leader. Claude McKay was a major asset to the Harlem Renaissance with his contributions of such
great pieces of writings such as If We Must Die and The Lynching. McKay wrote in many different
styles. His work which vary from dialect verse celebrating peasant life in Jamaica, to militant poems
challenging white authority in the United States, to philosophically ambitious novels about the effort
of blacks to cope in western society ( Claude McKay 1375) ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

These two pieces of writing were published by Walter Jekyll, a publisher who encouraged McKay to
write poetry rooted in Jamaican folk culture and with Jamaican Dialect. These pieces of writing
differed from the traditional form of writing he learned in his schooling, but gave McKay his first
piece of recognition. These two pieces of writing were so successful that they allowed McKay to be
the first black writer to receive the medal from the Jamaican institute of Arts and Sciences. McKay
used the money that he received from this award to go to America to study agriculture (Masiello 245).
McKay came to the Tuskegee Institute in Alabama to study agriculture but left within two months. He
transferred to Kansas State and stayed there until 1914 when he lost interest in the field of agriculture
and returned to his writing (Masiello 245). McKay then had a few years with little success, this was
when he initially moved to Harlem. In 1914, he married Eulalie Imelda Edwards, the marriage ended
within six months (Ali 201). From 1914 to 1919, McKay was not very successful as a writer, and only
had his work published under the pseudonym Eli Edwards ( Claude McKay 1375). He was also forced
to work medial jobs such as a dining car waiter on the Pennsylvania Railroad. These hard times later
rendered the novel Home to Harlem (Hathaway 290).
McKay s situation soon improved;

foolish. He thinks his strategies can easily manage the humans and can change their entire life. At
beginning of the book, Screwtape explains the difficulties that human faces in their lives. Because
humans have free will, they constantly make decisions between good and evil, or between God and
Satan. Since humans free will makes them weak and prone to temptation, Screwtape unwillingly
admits that free will is also a problem for devils. The humans constantly faces temptation and God
rewards them for resisting it through out their lives. If humans

Chris Krakauer s Non Fiction Book Into The Wild
Imagine this: a young adult vanishes without a trace to venture off into the wild and discover himself.
With the bearings of a modern day bildungsroman, such a story may not seem uncommon; after all,
young adult novels and films have both glorified and censured the youthful adventure tale,
perpetuating an image of adolescents (particularly young males) as courageous yet foolhardy
individuals who adamantly desire self discovery. Such depictions may not be far from reality, as
demonstrated by the story of Chris McCandless in Jon Krakauer s non fiction book Into the Wild.
Krakauer presents a relatively objective account of 24 year old McCandless s brief sojourn in the
Alaskan wilderness and the events leading to his death, offering opinions from individuals who
criticized the young man s arrogance and foolhardiness as well as those who extolled McCandless as a
noble, brave hero. To establish an extreme and unyielding stance on Chris McCandless viewing him as
either a righteous idealist or an inexperienced dunderhead would disregard McCandless s nuanced
personality and his sensitive familial circumstances. When one takes into account McCandless s
estrangement from his family and his worship of author Jack London s The Call of the Wild, it
becomes clear that while McCandless was an ignorant and overconfident hypocrite who was unable to
survive in the wild, he genuinely adhered to his beliefs and was not wholly responsible for his own
death. McCandless s unusual family

The Between Socialism And Communism
As the cultural Marxist ideology used by liberals in the United States today originates from Europe,
understanding what politicians represent will go some way to avoiding further American decline, the
slide into a police state and the belief that Obama is a Messiah.
The coming 2016 election is arguably the most important ever held. Consequences from the results
decide the future of the United States and in which direction it will shift, towards European liberal
fascism and equality based Human Rights, alternatively, a return to the constitution.
Not understanding leads to an inability to explain the difference between socialism and communism,
or equality as an abstract. The well fed social justice warriors of today have replaced the poverty class
revolutionaries of yesteryear, with cultural Marxism, explained in an American context. The aims
remain radical and utopic, as do the politicians behind the agenda.
Failure to understand European ideologies is why Bernie Sanders, posing as a Democrat, but a lifelong
Maoist, can pass himself off as a socialist in the Democrat party. The disguise is what allows former
Alinsky radical, Hillary Clinton, a multimillionaire progressive, to run as a Democrat.
The key to understanding ideologies therefore, lies in viewing politics as circular, not linear, with the
centre at the top and the right and left of extremism meeting at the bottom. The choice is the Gestapo
or KGB, concentration camps or slave labour camps and all ending without

Perihelion Distances
Space is extremely vast, and planets are tiny specks by comparison to the distance between them,
which means that a random object flying through the solar is extremely unlikely to collide with Earth,
and only a small number of the objects in our solar system even have the possibility of coming near
Earth. First, it is necessary to understand how astronomical orbits are defined. Three key terms, as
explained by WSU s introductory astronomy course, are the semi major axis, the perihelion distance,
and the aphelion distance. The semi major axis is half of the elliptical orbit s main axis, and is also the
object s average distance to the sun, the perihelion distance is the closest distance the object ever gets
to the sun, and the aphelion distance is the farthest. It is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The remaining objects are all referred to as near Earth asteroids, and are classified as either Atens,
with a semi major axis less than 1 AU and an aphelion distance greater than 0.983 AU, Apollos, with a

semi major axis greater than 1 AU and a perihelion distance between 1.017 AU and 1.3 AU (Dunbar,
2004). Dunbar (2004) also describes one final classification for near Earth asteroids, which are
potentially hazardous asteroids, defined as having a minimum orbit intersection distance of 0.05 AU
and having a minimum diameter of around 150m (Dunbar 2004). All of these classifications are
necessary in order to look at the objects in our solar system, and to determine which objects pose a
serious risk and need to be monitored, as well as objects which could become dangerous if their orbit
is slightly changed by an unexpected collision or gravitational

Reasons Why College Athletes Should Be Paid
I believe that college athletes should be paid for many reasons. One reason why they should get paid is
because they put themselves on the line. They also put on an incredible show for the people so that
means more money. The third explanation why these athletes should be paid is because they would
help begin a sense of financial awareness. Another statement of why they should get paid is because
this is the main way that colleges get money. The last and final explanation on why these athletes
should get paid is because they work harder than regular students. All these reasons are why they
should get paid. First of all, many of the athletes put themselves on the line and they put an incredible
show for the people so that means more money. A college athlete may get a scholarship to go to a
college to be able to play sports, but what would happen if they get hurt or cuty from a team. They
might lose their dream of becoming something big in life or they might not accomplish a dream they
wanted to be successful in. These athlete s career can end any second and they do it for the people.
According to Marc Edelman he states that Not only do they miss class, but they are absent for
nationally televised games that make a lot of money and receive millions of viewers . These means
that these athletes are missing their school time to make an entertaining event for millions of viewers.
These athletes are the main cause of why these people want to got to a certain

History is often a speculation of reality, but architecture and ruins from the past are a great tool in

arrival of Europeans by individuals who aptly used the landscape surrounding them and maximized
the benefits they reaped. During this time they were able to achieve great advances in not only in their

barren landscape unfamiliar to the human touch, but, in fact, the land of well developed societies

Proinflammatory Muscle Synthesis
TNF α is secreted primarily from the myeloid cells and is a potent proinflammatory cytokine. This
cytokine results mainly in the release of the inflammatory cytokines, IL 1β, and IL 6 (Chen and
Goeddel 2002), and was the first WAT derived inflammatory cytokine involved in the initiation and
progression of insulin resistance (Hotamisligil, Shargill et al. 1993, Tilg and Moschen 2008). Though
it was originally believed that TNF α was secreted by adipose tissue, a majority of it is secreted by
adipose tissue resident macrophages (Weisberg, McCann et al. 2003). In mice, it was proven that those
lacking TNF α or its receptors, which are positively correlated markers, were protected against insulin
resistance (Kern, Saghizadeh et al. 1995, Uysal, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
2000, Vozarova, Weyer et al. 2001). Subcutaneous adipose tissue releases less IL 6 when compared to
visceral adipose tissue. IL 6 has been associated with being marker for visceral adiposity (Fried,
Bunkin et al. 1998). Two different studies have given two different results to the role that IL 6 plays in
obesity and diabetes. The first study stated that higher IL 6 levels are present in those patients with
insulin resistance that is related to obesity (Bastard, Jardel et al. 2000, Vozarova, Weyer et al. 2001).
However, the second study states that IL 6 levels do indeed correlate with fat mass and adiposity,
while not confirming that they correlate with insulin action or responsiveness (Kern, Ranganathan et
al. 2001). IL 6 has an anti inflammatory effect during exercise and it can increase the skeletal muscles
level of glucose, which in turn leads to myogenesis, hypertrophy of muscles, and AMPK mediated
fatty acid oxidation (Starkie, Ostrowski et al.

burned books are well intentioned parents and citizens of the united states, and they were convincing
their children to burn their comic books. Frederic Wertham, psychiatrist born in germany, worked in a

the comic books are the cause of children becoming criminals. For nearly a month children gathered

The And Social Impacts Of The Industrial Revolution
Becoming more and more popular, 24 states have adopted Right To Work Laws which prohibit
employers and unions from making agreements which would require current, or future, employees to
join a union in order to work for the company. This law has created a controversy which spans across
topics such as personal and employer freedoms, to fiscal responsibility of the government and tax
payers money.
History of Unions and Right To Work
The first recorded labor strike in the US occurred when New York journeymen tailors protested a
wage reduction in 1768. In response to economic and social impacts of the industrial revolution,
unions began rapidly forming in the mid 19th century. The main focus of the unions was to defend
against cheap labor , improve safety conditions, and demand shorter workdays. National Labor groups
began to form at this time as well. The Knights of Labor emerged as a major force in the late 1880s,
but eventually collapsed because of poor organization, disagreement of goals, lack of effective
leadership, and opposition from employers and government forces.
The National Labor Relations Act of 1935 (better known as the Wagner Act) was the single most
important piece of labor legislation enacted in the United States in the 20th century. Its purpose was to
prohibit employers interference with the autonomous organization of workers into unions.
Sponsored by New York Senator Robert F. Wagner, the Wagner Act established the federal

ship afloat. Brunel realised that the ship would need more than one propulsion system; since twin
screws were still very much experimental, he settled on a combination of a single screw and paddle
wheels, with auxiliary sail power. Using paddle wheels meant that the ship would be able to reach
Calcutta, where the Hooghly River was too shallow for screws. Brunel showed his idea to John Scott
Russell, an experienced naval architect and ship builder whom he had first met at the Great
Exhibition. Scott Russel examined Brunel s plan and made his own calculations to see if it could be
done. He calculated that it would have a displacement of 20,000 tons and would require 8,500
horsepower (6,300 kW) to achieve 14 knots (26

Injera
As soon as I walked through the doors of Ras Ka, I felt a sense of home. The aroma of berbere and
niter kibbeh wafting through the room. The setting was quaint and inviting, only four tables to choose
from. The kitchen was open to the sitting area, a see through curtain acting as the door. The owner,
Hannah, welcomed us. Hannah was wearing a colorful netela, a traditional Ethiopian shawl. My
family and I sat down on a back bench and ordered a traditional herbal tea. The taste was bitter and
bland. While I had a hard time swallowing the dirt like tea, I enjoyed the aesthetic of the spices and
herbs. A serving platter of Injera timatim FitFit was placed in front of us. Injera is traditionally made
of tef and used like a tortilla to enjoy lentils and mixed vegetables. The injera was bland with a
spongey texture. However, the neutral flavor of the injera balanced the prominently spicy flavor of the
Ras Ka sauce. Traditionally, Ethiopian cuisine contains wat, a fiery spice. Ras Ka displays the
traditional eating customs of Muslim and Christian populations in Ethiopia by remaining a fully vegan
and vegetarian restaurant. Many Muslims and Christians in Ethiopia avoid consuming pork, and often
beef and chicken. The platter was loaded full with tomatoes, lentils, green peppers, and onions. The
prominent agriculture of Ethiopia was directly ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

the dish. Unlike many spicy Latin American dishes, the spices in the Ras Ka sauce never overpowered
the vegetables, only added extraordinary flavor. As I dined on injera and lentils, I felt as though
Hannah s mother and grandmother had prepared the dish for me. I was captivated by the taste, I was

The Journey Of Saint Louis
It all started one bitterly cold Sunday afternoon. We were packed and ready to roll for our week long
trip. The adventure to Florida took us nearly two entire days. On our way there, while we were there,
and on the way back; we overcame several challenges. My mom (Sharyl), my step dad (Kyle), my
little brother (Connor), my other little brother (Chase), my mom s friends (Deb and Ticker), and their
children (PJ and Zach), left for our trip on a Sunday afternoon right after my mom was done with
work. We made sure to double, even triple, check everything to make sure we had everything that we
thought we would need for our trip. While we were on our way to Saint Louis for our first stop, we

I also listened to music and talked to my girlfriend for the majority of the ride. For the rest of the ride,
I enjoyed the company of everyone else. I played I Spy with my little brothers. I remember him saying
that his color was blue, when almost all the road signs were blue. We stopped for lunch at around 2:30
and filled up on gas and purchased our snacks. I remember we had just stopped to go to the bathroom
about five minutes earlier. I had felt like I didn t have to go, so of course I didn t go. I quickly realized
that was a bad idea when I finally felt like it was time for me to go. Well, my step dad wouldn t stop to
let me go, so I could either go in a bottle or wait till we stopped for supper. I decided to wait since I
thought that we would be stopping very soon, but I was very wrong. I had to wait almost 5 hours just
to use the bathroom! When we finally stopped to for supper, I really had to go. I swear I was in the
bathroom for a good five minutes, just going number one. We had finished eating our supper and was
ready to go back on the road by 10:00. For the rest of the ride to Valdosta, most of us slept or at least
did everything that they could to attempt it. We had to stop for gas one more time, before finally
arriving in Valdosta at around one in the morning. I remember that the hotel wasn t very nice and the
beds were very small. I enjoyed being able to take a shower, after not being able to for a

Ivan the Terrible Essay
Ivan IV was a complicated man, with a complicated past, in a complicated country, in a complicated
time; his story is not an easy one. Ivan the terrible, the man, could never be completely understood in
a few words, nor in a few pages, and only perhaps in a few volumes. A man of incredible range his
dreadfulness could only be matched by his magnificence, his love by his hatred.
Ivan life began in the same fashion it would continue: in a tempest. His father murdered when he was
three years old, his suspected murderer Ivan s uncle. Following this disaster Ivan succeeded to the
throne. His mother, Jelena Glinsky, crowned herself regent and protector , an ambitious choice that
would prove deadly to her self, and detrimental to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
But on the other side Ivan was, a avowed scholar; such a devoted Christian that he gained callouses on
his forehead from penance and prayer.
In 1547 Ivan was crowned Tsar of all Tsars. It was also time for Ivan to take a wife. He held what was
little more than a beauty contest amongst the noble women. Ivan was charmed by the beautiful
Anastasia Romanovna, and married her soon after. It was against all odds a love match; there would
be 13 years of happy marriage, although only two children would survive to adulthood.
During these happy years of marriage Anastasia acted as quieting force in Ivan s life. It was in these
years that Ivan would consolidate Russia, he ruled advisory counselor, and dispel corruption and
excesses from his courtiers. It is a misconception that Ivan is known as the terrible, a glitch in
translation. Ivan was known as Grozny , the awesome, and it was in these years that he earned the
title.
In 1153 Ivan suddenly became ill, he demanded allegiance to his oldest son Dmitri. The boyars
balked. Ivan recovered but his mistrust of the nobility grew. Dmitri was dropped into a river and
drowned, Anastasia died in 1560. These two events snapped Ivan s mind out of the harmony it for
thirteen had enjoyed. It also marked the beginning of the second half of Ivan s reign, split like so much
else about Ivan s person.
Ivan peace gone, he threatened to abdicate the

Economic And Economic Development Of The United States
Introduction Despite its status as a major economic power, the United States exhibits several features
that create cause for concern. Whereas the U.S. economy largely depends on adjustments in capital
structures over time, individual firms and industries play critical roles in determining an economic
future. Firm and industry leverage further depend on a reconciliation of debt and equity flows. More
broadly, economic policies rooted in the philosophy of neoliberalism influence the macroeconomic
factors of gross domestic product (GDP) and foreign direct investment (FDI) while excess returns on
investment (ROIs) promote instability in market functions by affecting performance across firms and
industries. Based on these observations, the economic future of the U.S. depends on the shaping of
fiscal and monetary policies that create space for uncertainty as they would also guarantee more stable
employment over time. Macroeconomic Conditions of the U.S. The United States has macroeconomic
features that pertain to capital structure and choice across firms over time (Cook Tang, 2010). Capital
structures adjust because of how economic booms and busts affect choice. Economic recovery after a
recession depends on the speed at which capital structures adjust. However, a condition for economic
recovery in the U.S. depends on the size of individual firms and how they define a debt ratio (Cook
Tang, 2010). Capital structures also have a relation with labor especially concerning the

Hamlet’s Astounding Success Essay
Hamlet s Astounding Success
What secret formula did the playwright William Shakespeare use in the recipe for the tragedy Hamlet?
Why, this play has been the rage for 400 years! Let s analyze the reasons for its success.
A.C. Bradley tells in his book of criticism, Shakespearean Tragedy, the extreme importance of the
character of Hamlet to the rating of the play:
Naturally then, the tragedy of Hamlet with Hamlet left out has become the symbol of extreme
absurdity; while the character itself has probably exerted a great fascination, and certainly has been
the subject of more discussion, than any other in the whole literature of the world. (94)
In total agreement with Bradley are other critics, one ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

There is no more exalted ranking than the above. Richard A. Lanham in the essay Superposed Plays
maintains that no other English tragedy has generated the literary comment which this play has
produced: Hamlet is one of the great tragedies. It has generated more comment than any other written
document in English literature, one would guess, reverent, serious comment on it as a serious play
(91). Robert B. Heilman in The Role We Give Shakespeare relates the high ranking of Shakespeare to
the innumerableness of the parts :
But the Shakespeare completeness appears graspable and possessable to many men at odds with each
other, because of the innumerableness of the parts: these parts we may consider incompletenesses,
partial perspectives, and as such they correspond to the imperfect (but not necessarily invalid) modes
of seeing and understanding [. . .] . (10)
Indeed, the reader finds a wide variety of parts from beginning to end of Hamlet. This is seen in the
fact of over 20 characters with speaking roles; and in their variety of occupations from king to grave
digger; and in the 20 different scene changes; and in the differentiation

Comparing The Time Period Of Joseph Hansberry s The Sun
As you begin to compare the time period in which A Raisin in the Sun was written, the 1950s, and
now, you can find many similarities and differences regarding racial equality in the Chicagoland, even
more specifically the south side. The Younger family, deriving from the African American descent, in
Lorraine Hansberry s play, has trouble finding happiness when they are surrounded by successful
white people, while they are stuck living in a two bedroom apartment and struggle to make ends meet.
In the 1950s, it was much harder for African Americans to find jobs where they could make a
substantial living to provide for their families, but in today s society the opportunities for the black
race have improved immensely, although a problem with their pay grade still persists. On the other
hand, the two time periods are similar in the respect that the environment on the Southside of Chicago
today is very similar to what it was like almost 60 years ago. Additionally, just like in the play, police
force continues to be an issue, whether that be because they favor a certain race, or police brutality;
shooting people with the wrong intentions. More problems that exist today include, gang violence,
protests, and segregated schools in the poorer black communities. While the Chicagoland continues to
struggle with problems regarding racial equality, they have made many improvements such as the
development of organizations to keep children off of the streets and out of trouble as well as

Tex Mex Food History
ZOOM
Tex Mex food is fusion on American and Mexican food. This type of food is very popular, especially
in the United States. Authentic Mexican food started in Mexico. The word Tex Mex was used to
describe Mexican descendants living in Texas, also known as Tejanos. As more and more people
settled in Texas, the popularity of Mexican food grew and grew. People started attempting to make it
themselves in their own kitchens, using Texan ingredients like beef and wheat flour. Beef and wheat
flour are two things not common in Mexico. Mexican restaurants in Texas started to use more gringo
elements into their dishes, like ground beef in enchiladas. This resulted in a new invention, a delicious
invention, of Tex Mex food. Traditional Mexican food use plenty ... Show more content on

Mexican inspired fare such as tacos, quesadillas, and nachos. Another Tex Mex restaurant is Chili s
Grill and Bar. Chili s is family friendly chain serving classic Tex Mex and American fare in a
southwestern style setting. Tex Mex and authentic Mexican food may be very different but they are
still the same type of foods. Food brings people together. Here food definitely did bring people
together. Without the Mexicans and the Texans, we might not have the food that we love so much

we consume almost daily. Queso dip, chimichangas, the enchilada have been Americanized. But we

I Think About The Word Ethics
When I think about the word ethics the first thing that comes to mind is what is it, and what does it
mean to me? Ethics itself is how one conducts themselves in what they deem is an appropriate
manner. It is the basis of our moral decisions and makes us who we are as people and influences our
choices. There are different components in ethics that consist of, acting out of duty, good intentions,
consequences, utility or outcome of one s actions and striving to be a virtuous person. The one that
stands out the most and influences my behavior is virtue. Whether it is my thoughts or actions I try to
remain virtuous in my behavior. Doing the right thing because that is what is morally right is how I
make my decisions. I would rather go out of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Overcoming these vices and still maintaining a virtuous attitude shows true strength and virtuous
character. This, I also believe, stands out as one of the important aspects of virtue. Even when difficult
vices are set in front of you to choose along with the good, being virtuous would result in picking the
right choice because it is simply that, the right thing to do.
Augustine Aurelius, more commonly known by the name Saint Augustine, was quite astonishingly one
of the most important and influential thinkers in history as we know it. Although he had extremely
pessimistic views, his way of thinking towards contemporary political theory shaped his following and
ideas into what is known about him today. Many critics target Augustine s pessimism, arguing that his
fixation on sin and longing for the heavenly city deny the value of this worldly politics. (Lamb, 2014)
Born in Tagaste in 354, he was particularly exposed to varying cultures and religion. Living in North
Africa throughout his childhood, he saw and recognized the coexistence of these cultures and religions
around the time of Emperor Constantine. The edict of religious tolerance took the forefront around
1313, and this inspired him to search for the truth. He set out to reach this goal after examining and
reading the works of Cicero. His exhortation to love wisdom was what sparked the inspiration of
Augustine to explore different doctrines that were presented at the time of his life.

Essay On What Role Did George Washington Play In...
George Washington became the first president of the United States in 1789, and Thomas Jefferson
became the third president of the United States in 1801, shortly after. The United States of America
was a brand new country and there were still quite a few kinks to solve in the government.
Establishing a stable government was important for a baby country like the United States, and George
Washington and Thomas Jefferson helped do that during both presidential terms. George Washington
played a large role in implementing a strong and secure government through many parts of his
presidency. As soon as George Washington was appointed to being President and sworn into office,
the first members in Congress were also elected to begin their duties. Immediately ... Show more

As soon as Thomas Jefferson began his journey as the President of the United States, Jefferson
brought an end to the Alien and Sedition Acts, brought forth by John Adams. The passing of the Alien
and Sedition Acts by John Adams and the rest of the Federalist party caused hostility toward the
government, so with the termination of the acts, the government began to regain its calmness.
Jefferson also bought the Louisiana Purchase in presidency term. The Louisiana Purchase, bought
from France at the total cost of $15 million, encouraged the citizens of the United States to expand
west. The expansion caused the economy to flourish, making the government more financially stable.
Jefferson also created a democratic non aristocratic government. The idea was that in order to be a
better government, the government should govern less, so that is what the government did. This form
of government made sure that not one person rose to absolute power and in doing so, it kept the
interests of the people in mind, so the people were happy. Another accomplishment of Thomas
Jefferson s presidency was the death of the Federalist party. Seeing as the government no longer was
divided, it was more stable. Thomas Jefferson s eradication of the Alien and Sedition Acts caused
more stability in the government through ending the hostility the acts were bringing to the people.
Because of the end of the Alien and Sedition Acts, the people were less hostile, which caused the
government to become more stable. When Jefferson purchased the Louisiana Purchase, it caused
many people to spread out west. The buying of the Louisiana Purchase contributed to the stability of
the American government by bringing forth financial aid as the economy thrived. The creation of the
democratic non aristocratic government made the government more stable because the people of the

Analysis Of All Summer In A Day By Ray Bradbury
The short story All Summer in a Day by Ray Bradbury shows how regret can be derived from the evil
of human nature. In the beginning of the story, it explains how the children are on Venus and it only
rains, except from when the sun comes out for a few hours every seven years. Margot is different from
the children and is constantly bullied for it, wishing to go back to Earth, despite resulting in the loss of
thousands of dollars from their families. When the teacher leaves the room, the other children lock
Margot in a closet, right before the sun comes out. Once the sun vanishes, they realize the mistake
they had made.
One piece of evidence that supports this claim is towards the beginning of the story, the narrator talks
about how Margot doesn t

History And Formation Of Enron
History and Formation of Enron Enron was formed through the merger of Houston Natural Gas
(HNG) of Houston, Texas and InterNorth of Omaha, Nebraska. HNG covered the Florida and
California market, their pipelines running from east to west. InterNorth catered the Iowa and
Minnesota market, their pipelines running from north to south. HNG was formed in 1920, providing
gas to retail customers in Houston. The company sold its retail gas business in 1920 and ventured into
the gas exploration and production business. In the year 1984, HNG had $3.7 billion in assets, over $2
billion in sales and booked profits of $123 million. In 1984, InterNorth had revenues of $7.5 billion.
The reason behind the merger was that InterNorth faced the threat of a buyout by corporate raiders as
it had low debt and high revenues. The conservative operations and low debt of InterNorth made it a
target for corporate raiders who planned to use its cash reserves and borrowing capacity to extract
funds for themselves. On the other hand, HNG had borrowed heavily to expand its pipelines in the
Florida and California markets. Therefore, merging with Houston Natural Gas made perfect sense as it
fended off corporate raiders. In May 1984, InterNorth acquired HNG for $2.4 billion, under the
leadership of Sam Segnar who was the CEO of InterNorth at that time. The negotiations for HNG
were handled by John Wing and he was able to negotiate a price for HNG shares which was 40%
higher than the ongoing market price.

The Orion Research Paper
I chose the Orion constellation because after doing some research, I found that the history of this
constellation was very interesting. The Orion constellation looks like a man holding a weapon and a
dead lion, so it was named after a hunter in Greek mythology. The Orion is located on the celestial
equator and it consists of seven stars known as Betelgeuse, Rigel, Bellatrix, Mintaka, Alnilam,
Alnitak, and Saiph, but it s brightest stars are Rigel and Betelgeuse. This constellation is most visible
between January and March at evening time and can be seen all across the world.

Environmental Degradation and Its Effect on Indian Economy

ENVIRONMENTAL DEGRADATION AND ITS EFFECT ON INDIAN ECONOMY
The environmental problems in India are growing rapidly. The increasing economic development and
a rapidly growing population that has taken the country from 300 million people in 1947 to more than
one billion people today is putting a strain on the environment, infrastructure, and the country s
natural resources. Industrial pollution, soil erosion, deforestation, rapid industrialization, urbanization,

Nearly 12 million hectares of pasturelands are also substantially degraded. Thus, a total of 132 million
hectares representing 40 per cent of the country s total landmass have productivity well below their
potential (Tejwani Yadav, 1998).
Causes of land degradation
The main causes of land degradation are deforestation, ignorance of soil conservation practices,
extension of cultivation to marginal lands, improper crop rotation, imbalanced fertiliser use, surface
irrigation ironically designed to increase land productivity, rapid growth in population, paucity of
land, economic pressures and poverty.
Air Pollution The World Health Organization estimates that about two million people die prematurely
every year as a result of air pollution, while many more suffer from breathing ailments, heart disease,
lung infections and even cancer.Fine particles or microscopic dust from coal or wood fires and
unfiltered diesel engines are rated as one of the most lethal forms or air pollution caused by industry,
transport, household heating, cooking and ageing coal or oil fired power stations. There are four
reasons of air pollution are emissions from vehicles, thermal power plants, industries and refineries.
The problem of indoor air pollution in rural areas and urban slums has increased. A latest example
industrial pollution is the leak of chlorine gas in Mumbai. On July 14, 2010 nearly 76 people were

PPLS sold legal expense insurance that provided for partial payment of legal fees in connection with

Premiums were typically paid on a monthly basis either by automatic charges to the member s credit

noncancelable except for fraud, nonpayment of premiums, or upon written request by a member. The
annual membership persistency rate in 1998 was high; approximately 75% of members at the
beginning of the year and new members during the year continued to be enrolled in the program at the
end of the year. At March 31 1999, PPLS had 648,475 active members, and membership had been
increasing at about 40% per year. PPLS marketed its memberships through a multi level program that
encouraged buyers to become salespeople. Members that sought to become sales associates paid the
company a fee, typically $65, to cover the cost of training materials, training meetings, and home
office support services. Registered sales associates sold the company s services to their friends and
business associates. The most successful even recruited and developed their own sales force. In 1998
PPLS generated 76% of its annual sales from the roughly 150,000 members registered as sales

What Are The Characteristics Of The Dutch Republic In this time, the Dutch Republic will let you publish any book and will let anyone say what they think no matter if it is against the government or anyone or anything. That is a trait of the Dutch Republic that no other country would let that happen, they will probably kill the person that published a controversial book if anyone did so out of the Dutch republic. The Dutch are also very open to new ideas and opinions, like the ideas that the Earth orbits the Sun and that the Earth is round. Also the Dutch really like painting, science and basically learning, they are open to any idea and will try to come up with their own ideas too and try to help each other with their ideas. The Dutch Republic is also widely known for the smartness and intelligence of the Dutch and their people, they most probably have a very high IQ :). They are very smart because they really like learning and they learn a lot and their intelligence and open mindedness makes them learn faster and more things in the same time as other people might learn half what they learn in the same time because they are really open minded and they are also very intelligent and creative. Specifically the character Chris Chambers, who is a perfect example of an outcast. Because his family has a bad name, he has been labeled as the problem child in the town. Although he has done many bad things, he is blamed for things that he has not done, which makes him relatable to many children. In The Goonies, the kids are relatable in a way but Stand by Me s characters go deeper than that. The Goonies is a hilariously unrealistic movie about a group of young friends searching for a treasure filled pirate ship, setting off many booby traps, and running away from money hungry criminals. In this movie, a group of young boys find a treasure map in an attic and go on an adventure to save their neighborhood from being replaced by a golf course. Although there are a few moments in this movie that could be serious, those moments are quickly changed back to the movie s normal humerus and fun loving demeanor. In The Goonies there are many ridiculous booby traps that the famous pirate One Eyed Willie set up that the group of friends ran into multiple times. The very first ... Bush signed the No Child Left Behind (NCLB) Act launching America s education system into an era of standardized testing as a method of holding states and schools accountable for student achievement. With this recent surge of high stakes standardized testing, teachers are held to increasingly higher expectations of quality instruction and meeting these standards. However, schools are unprepared in achieving the goals of NCLB resulting in years of struggle to improve student success in testing due to flaws in the traditional grading system. Current schools and teachers lack proper grading practices that are inadequate of accurately representing student achievement. With the increased focus on standards, it is imperative that schools begin to implement an effective grading system so that all students and parents are provided accurate feedback of students abilities. There are myriad unforeseen consequences when schools use the traditional grading system. For the past century, traditional grading practices and policies that have contributed to much of the failure of student achievement. The use of the traditional grading system has slowly led to the major issue of grade inflation. Most often students grade tend to be inflated with the help of non academic factors such as homework, participation and student effort. For the Harlem Renaissance, which was an extraordinary eruption of creativity among Black Americans in all fields of art, Claude McKay was the leader. McKay used the money that he received from this award to go to America to study agriculture (Masiello 245). McKay came to the Tuskegee Institute in Alabama to study agriculture but left within two months. He transferred to Kansas State and stayed there until 1914 when he lost interest in the field of agriculture and returned to his writing (Masiello 245). McKay then had a few years with little success, this was when he initially moved to Harlem. In 1914, he married Eulalie Imelda Edwards, the marriage ended within six months (Ali 201). From 1914 to 1919, McKay was not very successful as a writer, and only had his work published under the pseudonym Eli Edwards ( Claude McKay 1375). He was also forced to work medial jobs such as a dining car waiter on the Pennsylvania Railroad. These hard times later rendered the novel Home to Harlem (Hathaway 290). At beginning of the book, Screwtape explains the difficulties that human faces in their lives. Because humans have free will, they constantly make decisions between good and evil, or between God and Satan. • 13. Chris Krakauer s Non Fiction Book Into The Wild Imagine this: a young adult vanishes without a trace to venture off into the wild and discover himself. With the bearings of a modern day bildungsroman, such a story may not seem uncommon; after all, young adult novels and films have both glorified and censured the youthful adventure tale, perpetuating an image of adolescents (particularly young males) as courageous yet foolhardy individuals who adamantly desire self discovery. Such depictions may not be far from reality, as demonstrated by the story of Chris McCandless in Jon Krakauer s non fiction book Into the Wild. Krakauer presents a relatively objective account of 24 year old McCandless s brief sojourn in the Alaskan wilderness and the events leading to his death, offering opinions from individuals who criticized the young man s arrogance and foolhardiness as well as those who extolled McCandless as a noble, brave hero. To establish an extreme and unyielding stance on Chris McCandless viewing him as either a righteous idealist or an inexperienced dunderhead would disregard McCandless s nuanced personality and his sensitive familial circumstances. When one takes into account McCandless s estrangement from his family and his worship of author Jack London s The Call of the Wild, it becomes clear that while McCandless was an ignorant and overconfident hypocrite who was unable to survive in the wild, he genuinely adhered to his beliefs and was not wholly responsible for his own death. • 14. The Between Socialism And Communism As the cultural Marxist ideology used by liberals in the United States today originates from Europe, understanding what politicians represent will go some way to avoiding further American decline, the slide into a police state and the belief that Obama is a Messiah. The coming 2016 election is arguably the most important ever held. Consequences from the results decide the future of the United States and in which direction it will shift, towards European liberal fascism and equality based Human Rights, alternatively, a return to the constitution. Not understanding leads to an inability to explain the difference between socialism and communism, or equality as an abstract. The well fed social justice warriors of today have replaced the poverty class revolutionaries of yesteryear, with cultural Marxism, explained in an American context. The aims remain radical and utopic, as do the politicians behind the agenda. Failure to understand European ideologies is why Bernie Sanders, posing as a Democrat, but a lifelong Maoist, can pass himself off as a socialist in the Democrat party. The disguise is what allows former Alinsky radical, Hillary Clinton, a multimillionaire progressive, to run as a Democrat. The key to understanding ideologies therefore, lies in viewing politics as circular, not linear, with the centre at the top and the right and left of extremism meeting at the bottom. This cytokine results mainly in the release of the inflammatory cytokines, IL 1β, and IL 6 (Chen and Goeddel 2002), and was the first WAT derived inflammatory cytokine involved in the initiation and progression of insulin resistance (Hotamisligil, Shargill et al. 1993, Tilg and Moschen 2008). Though it was originally believed that TNF α was secreted by adipose tissue, a majority of it is secreted by adipose tissue resident macrophages (Weisberg, McCann et al. 2003). The And Social Impacts Of The Industrial Revolution Becoming more and more popular, 24 states have adopted Right To Work Laws which prohibit employers and unions from making agreements which would require current, or future, employees to join a union in order to work for the company. This law has created a controversy which spans across topics such as personal and employer freedoms, to fiscal responsibility of the government and tax payers money. History of Unions and Right To Work The first recorded labor strike in the US occurred when New York journeymen tailors protested a wage reduction in 1768. In response to economic and social impacts of the industrial revolution, unions began rapidly forming in the mid 19th century. The main focus of the unions was to defend against cheap labor , improve safety conditions, and demand shorter workdays. National Labor groups began to form at this time as well. The Knights of Labor emerged as a major force in the late 1880s, but eventually collapsed because of poor organization, disagreement of goals, lack of effective leadership, and opposition from employers and government forces. The National Labor Relations Act of 1935 (better known as the Wagner Act) was the single most important piece of labor legislation enacted in the United States in the 20th century. Using paddle wheels meant that the ship would be able to reach Calcutta, where the Hooghly River was too shallow for screws. • 27. Economic And Economic Development Of The United States Introduction Despite its status as a major economic power, the United States exhibits several features that create cause for concern. Whereas the U.S. economy largely depends on adjustments in capital structures over time, individual firms and industries play critical roles in determining an economic future. Firm and industry leverage further depend on a reconciliation of debt and equity flows. More broadly, economic policies rooted in the philosophy of neoliberalism influence the macroeconomic factors of gross domestic product (GDP) and foreign direct investment (FDI) while excess returns on investment (ROIs) promote instability in market functions by affecting performance across firms and industries. Based on these observations, the economic future of the U.S. depends on the shaping of fiscal and monetary policies that create space for uncertainty as they would also guarantee more stable employment over time. Macroeconomic Conditions of the U.S. The United States has macroeconomic features that pertain to capital structure and choice across firms over time (Cook Tang, 2010). Capital structures adjust because of how economic booms and busts affect choice. Economic recovery after a recession depends on the speed at which capital structures adjust. • 31. I Think About The Word Ethics When I think about the word ethics the first thing that comes to mind is what is it, and what does it mean to me? Ethics itself is how one conducts themselves in what they deem is an appropriate manner. It is the basis of our moral decisions and makes us who we are as people and influences our choices. There are different components in ethics that consist of, acting out of duty, good intentions, consequences, utility or outcome of one s actions and striving to be a virtuous person. The one that stands out the most and influences my behavior is virtue. Whether it is my thoughts or actions I try to remain virtuous in my behavior. Doing the right thing because that is what is morally right is how I make my decisions. I would rather go out of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Overcoming these vices and still maintaining a virtuous attitude shows true strength and virtuous character. This, I also believe, stands out as one of the important aspects of virtue. Even when difficult vices are set in front of you to choose along with the good, being virtuous would result in picking the right choice because it is simply that, the right thing to do. Augustine Aurelius, more commonly known by the name Saint Augustine, was quite astonishingly one of the most important and influential thinkers in history as we know it. Although he had extremely pessimistic views, his way of thinking towards contemporary political theory shaped his following and ideas into what is known about him today. Many critics target Augustine s pessimism, arguing that his fixation on sin and longing for the heavenly city deny the value of this worldly politics. (Lamb, 2014) Born in Tagaste in 354, he was particularly exposed to varying cultures and religion. Living in North Africa throughout his childhood, he saw and recognized the coexistence of these cultures and religions around the time of Emperor Constantine. The edict of religious tolerance took the forefront around 1313, and this inspired him to search for the truth. He set out to reach this goal after examining and reading the works of Cicero. His exhortation to love wisdom was what sparked the inspiration of Augustine to explore different doctrines that were presented at the time of his life. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 32. Essay On What Role Did George Washington Play In... George Washington became the first president of the United States in 1789, and Thomas Jefferson became the third president of the United States in 1801, shortly after. The United States of America was a brand new country and there were still quite a few kinks to solve in the government. Establishing a stable government was important for a baby country like the United States, and George Washington and Thomas Jefferson helped do that during both presidential terms. George Washington played a large role in implementing a strong and secure government through many parts of his presidency. As soon as George Washington was appointed to being President and sworn into office, the first members in Congress were also elected to begin their duties. Immediately ... As soon as Thomas Jefferson began his journey as the President of the United States, Jefferson brought an end to the Alien and Sedition Acts, brought forth by John Adams. The passing of the Alien and Sedition Acts by John Adams and the rest of the Federalist party caused hostility toward the government, so with the termination of the acts, the government began to regain its calmness. Jefferson also bought the Louisiana Purchase in presidency term. The Louisiana Purchase, bought from France at the total cost of $15 million, encouraged the citizens of the United States to expand west. The expansion caused the economy to flourish, making the government more financially stable. Jefferson also created a democratic non aristocratic government. The idea was that in order to be a better government, the government should govern less, so that is what the government did. This form of government made sure that not one person rose to absolute power and in doing so, it kept the interests of the people in mind, so the people were happy. Another accomplishment of Thomas Jefferson s presidency was the death of the Federalist party. Seeing as the government no longer was divided, it was more stable. Thomas Jefferson s eradication of the Alien and Sedition Acts caused more stability in the government through ending the hostility the acts were bringing to the people. Because of the end of the Alien and Sedition Acts, the people were less hostile, which caused the government to become more stable. When Jefferson purchased the Louisiana Purchase, it caused many people to spread out west. The buying of the Louisiana Purchase contributed to the stability of the American government by bringing forth financial aid as the economy thrived. • 33. Analysis Of All Summer In A Day By Ray Bradbury The short story All Summer in a Day by Ray Bradbury shows how regret can be derived from the evil of human nature. In the beginning of the story, it explains how the children are on Venus and it only rains, except from when the sun comes out for a few hours every seven years. Margot is different from the children and is constantly bullied for it, wishing to go back to Earth, despite resulting in the loss of thousands of dollars from their families. When the teacher leaves the room, the other children lock Margot in a closet, right before the sun comes out. Once the sun vanishes, they realize the mistake they had made. One piece of evidence that supports this claim is towards the beginning of the story, the narrator talks about how Margot doesn t ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 34. History And Formation Of Enron History and Formation of Enron Enron was formed through the merger of Houston Natural Gas (HNG) of Houston, Texas and InterNorth of Omaha, Nebraska. HNG covered the Florida and California market, their pipelines running from east to west. InterNorth catered the Iowa and Minnesota market, their pipelines running from north to south. HNG was formed in 1920, providing gas to retail customers in Houston. The company sold its retail gas business in 1920 and ventured into the gas exploration and production business. In the year 1984, HNG had $3.7 billion in assets, over $2 billion in sales and booked profits of $123 million. In 1984, InterNorth had revenues of $7.5 billion. The reason behind the merger was that InterNorth faced the threat of a buyout by corporate raiders as it had low debt and high revenues. The conservative operations and low debt of InterNorth made it a target for corporate raiders who planned to use its cash reserves and borrowing capacity to extract funds for themselves. On the other hand, HNG had borrowed heavily to expand its pipelines in the Florida and California markets. Therefore, merging with Houston Natural Gas made perfect sense as it fended off corporate raiders. In May 1984, InterNorth acquired HNG for $2.4 billion, under the leadership of Sam Segnar who was the CEO of InterNorth at that time. The negotiations for HNG were handled by John Wing and he was able to negotiate a price for HNG shares which was 40% higher than the ongoing market price. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
