A Wrinkle In Time Quotes
Not I, nor anyone else can travel that road for you. You must travel it yourself. It is not that far. It is
within reach. Perhaps you have been on it since you were born, and did not know. Perhaps it is
everywhere on water and land. Walt Whitman. In other words, you can not make others do everything
for you because when you re alone you won t have them to rely on for guidance or to comfort you,
sometimes you just have to do it yourself. You may already have what you need, or you may need to
search or work towards it. Meg Murry from the novel A Wrinkle in Time can relate to this quote in
many ways, she struggles with doing stuff by herself, instead of relying on others. Meg the protagonist
of the novel has countless attributes and characteristics that show who she is, have helped her change
as a person, and throughout her journey also including helping her achieve heroic acts . 2 Meg is a
young self critical person that is constantly criticizing herself and being negative. Everyone tells her
how she will be alright and how everything will work out, but she completely disagrees and thinks she
is dumb, ugly, over emotional, a delinquent, and a person that everyone hates, except for her family
For example Meg said, I don t want him to grow up to be dumb like me. (p11) An another example is
A delinquent, that s what I am, she thought grimly. (p6) Seemingly, Meg has a great lack of
confidence, does not fit in and is very unsure about everything. She feels she is

Argumentative Report On Forensic Evidence
The Hypothesis that we are showing is that John Smith came to a complete stop on 6900 South Desert

Persuasive Essay About Texting And Driving
Texting while driving puts many driver s lives in danger daily. Many people feel that staying
connected to the outside world and answering a quick message is more important than focusing on the
road ahead or saving lives by paying attention. It can harm others on the road who are doing nothing
other than trying to make it to their destination safely, which is nothing you should ever be punished
for. If people would open their eyes (and keep them on the road) to the dangers of texting while
driving, car accidents take place every year would decline rapidly and the roads would be much safer
to drive on. Distracted drivers need to know the position they put others in as well as themselves but
unfortunately most of them don t ever see what they re ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The person texting believes that since they are not under the influence, they are more in control of
their driving but that is completely wrong because in turn they actually pay less attention to
where/how they are driving. Just for one second can you imagine that your sister, or brother, or
mother, or father tells you, I will be right back, I am just going to run to the store. but they never come
back. Next imagine receiving a phone call, or a knock at the door and that horrifying news is someone
in your family was hurt or even killed as a result of texting while driving. I don t think people truly
understand the gut wrenching pain and feeling that comes along with this type of life altering news.
Then of course you have people thinking that banning texting while driving is not fair because it is
violating their freedom of speech, but do you think it s fair that someone else s life has to be taken or
severely changed due to a stupid action? There is no justifiable explanation that you could use when
arguing that

Use of Generalist Fair Use Defence in Australian...
The objective of the Copyright Act 1968 (Cth) is to protect those who create works, such as artistic
works or literary works, as well as those other subject matter, such as films or sounds recordings, from
those who would serve to exploit or profit from their labor, skill and creativity. But, what about those
who use these protected works and other subject matter for interests different to the above? Such as
for educational purposes or for broadcasting? Under the act, there are listed many defences to protect
an individual or a corporation from infringement of copyright, or in other words, directly or indirectly,
infringing those exclusive rights that the copyright owner possess, also listed under the act . These

(GATT), first signed in 1947, and Agreement on Trade Related Aspects of Intellectual Property

the United States, this area is legislated by the Copyright Act 1976 (USA). This piece of legislation
will be discussed below when dealing with fair use defences. It is clear, that on an international scale,
the importance of protecting intellectual property is paramount. Works of an individual s skill,
independent thought and labour needs to be protected, to prevent exploitation, rip offs, and encourage
future individuals to create new works or other subject matter other than works.
The Copyright Act 1968 (Cth), as stated above, was introduced in response to the growing need to
protect individual s creative works or other subject matter from commercial or other exploitation. It

Salary disclosure is an unnecessary waste of time and resources and should not be done by companies.
Hence, I am fully in favour of salary confidentiality.
Employee 8: Gaurav Nagpal
Position: Office Administrator
Working with Pune University in the same capacity as my present position, I have seen both types of
organizations functioning. In my view, salaries being disclosed lead to many power struggles but can
also result in a rise in worker commitment.
In my view, I think salaries being secret is a better option since the latter of the 2 possibilities is a
rarely occurring phenomenon.
Employee 9: Namrata Shirodkar
Position: Secretary
I believe wholeheartedly in the policy of salary confidentiality. Salary disclosure can cause conflict
within an organization and should be avoided.

Sacred Violence In The Lottery By Shirley Jackson
Ted Bailey of the University of Miskolc, interpreted Shirley Jackson s, The Lottery in his work Sacred
Violence in Shirley Jackson s The Lottery . In this work, Bailey reasons that The Lottery is a story
which encompasses violence through tradition, an agricultural fertility ritual, and scapegoating. In the

characters, Old Man Warner stands for the voice of an older generation who does not believe in new

The Water Crisis In Flint
The water crisis in Flint, Michigan shocked and outraged many Americans. It was true, a simple water
source change from one source to another in the city of Flint turned into a State of Emergency as
declared by the governor. Toxic water from the Flint River had filtered into thousands of homes in the
town near Detroit. Keeping lead out of the drinking water is something modern society view as a
fundamental and common sense action. As such, countless citizens wondered how something like this
could ever happen in the United States. Indeed, the missteps by the city of Flint, Michigan must be
examined in terms of both decision making and chemistry in order to make appropriate adjustments
for the future.

Essay On The Conch Shell In Lord Of The Flies
A group of young British boys is stranded on an island with little to no supplies, besides a silly shell,
and a fire to keep their hope alive. In William Golding s Lord of the Flies, a group of British boys
were shot out of an airplane and landed on a strange island, all separated from each other. It is a very
interesting novel which includes a series of intense and sad events that all play a part in leading the
group of boys to their rescue off of the island. The group of boys has also come across multiple items
which represent a larger and influential idea towards the reader. The fire, conch, and the specs which
belong to Piggy. The symbolic conch shell in Lord of the Flies evolved its meaning throughout the
novel seeing that it first represented order, became power, and ultimately a loss of civilization through
the course of the book.
To begin, throughout the beginning of Lord of the Flies, the conch shell becomes a symbol of order
and unity. After their tragic plane crash, one element that brought the boys together was the conch
shell. One of the main characters, Ralph, used the conch shell to call anyone else who is on the island,
which resulted in the other boys being found and a tribe being formed. When Ralph was voted chief,
he started to create rules that were based around the conch. Ralph picked up the conch and began to
explain the rules, And another thing. We can t have everybody talking at once. We ll have Hands up

The Philosophy Of Political Science
Ohlone College The philosopher, Thomas Hobbes, started out with the philosophy of political science
while on his trips and visits neighboring countries outside of England to listen to other scientists
discuss and learn about different forms of government. While studying, Thomas Hobbes wondered
about why people allow themselves to become ruled by the government and would be the ideal form
of government best for England. He answered that questioned by stating that since people were
naturally wicked and shouldn t become trusted to govern themselves because they were selfish
creatures and would do anything to better their position and social status, it would be best to have an
absolute monarchy, which would stop the people when left alone to go back to their own evil impulse
to be led into the right direction and leadership to make sure the country doesn t go into turmoil. To
support this viewpoint, Thomas Hobbes asked the question, If men are naturally in a state of war, why
are they carrying arms and need keys to lock their doors. In other words, even when the country is at
peace, people are still using things which can get them a better advantage over others and keeping
their own interests a secret from others arms to protect their interests and a lock to lock away their
secrets so no one can get to it. According to Thomas Hobbes, the reason that this is the case is because
people are selfish and evil and that they must protect their interests

The Tipages And Advantages Of Calcium Silicate Bricks
Calcium silicate bricks are also called sand lime. They are often confused with concrete bricks but
these are much harder and would not scrape quite so easily. Calcium silicate bricks are manufactured
by mixing lime, sand or crushed silicaceous together, with enough water to allow the mixture
completely hydrated to be moulded under high pressure. The bricks are then moved in and steam in
autoclaved for three to fourteen hours to speed the chemical hardening. Pigments can be added during
the mixing stage. In their natural state, calcium silicate bricks are white to a creamy off white colour,
but the addition of ochres (buff or cream colours), iron oxides (pink, red, brown or black) or chrome
oxide (green) can enable a very wide variety of colours to be produced. It easily to cut thus increase its

1000kg/m3, but it is rigid and sustainable for use of building material.

Bloodstain Pattern Analysis Lab
Bloodstain pattern analysis (BPA) is the interpretation of bloodstains at a crime scene in order to
recreate the actions that caused the bloodshed. Analysts examine the size, shape, distribution, and
location of the bloodstains to draw about what happened. BPA uses principles of biology (behavior of
blood), physics (cohesion, capillary action and velocity) and mathematics (geometry, distance, and
angle) to assist investigators in answering questions like:
From where did the blood originate from?
What was the cause of the bloodshed? (weapons used)
From what direction was the victim wounded?
What were the positions of the victim/ attacker during the bloodshed?
Did anyone/anything move around after the bloodshed?
How many possible ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Blood drops are falling freely and only moving because of the pull of gravity on it. At low velocities,
larger bloodstains are produced. Usually, low velocity bloodstains are a result of blood dripping from
a victim. Dripping blood often falls at a 90 angle. This causes a circular bloodstain to form on the
surface that hits it lands upon. The droplets range from 4mm 10mm. However, this usually happens if
the victim is not moving and completely still. If droplets are falling from a moving object or person,
(walking or running) they fall to the ground at an angle (see angle of impact) and the direction of the
movement can be established. Spines often appear on bloodstains left behind and can be caused by
drops repeatedly landing in the same place, by the distance the drop falls (larger spines indicate larger
distance), or by the surface upon which the blood lands (rough surfaces cause more spines to form).
Low velocity blood may also be found in the trail of a person who is bleeding and larger pools of
blood may indicate where the person

Examples Of Justice In No Country For Old Men
In the novel No Country for Old Men by Cormac McCarthy, there is a battle between two versions of
justice. In typical western narratives, the Sheriff is the strong hero who perseveres through battle with
the antagonist, and the good guys always win. However, this novel disrupts this usual ending with the
introduction of a unique antagonist, Chigurh. Chigurh breaks the mold of the typical old western
villain in how he manages to outsmart the law and escape. His escape is a disastrous blow to the
system of justice the Sheriff has spent his life trying to maintain. Through this, the author displays a
twisted, unhappy version of justice in Chigurh and how it compares to Sheriff Bell s typical, objective
notion of justice on the western frontier. This interpretation showcases that sometimes justice is not
between only good and bad, and good does not necessarily always win. With its alternative versions of
justice, the novel illustrates the changing morality of the western frontier, the weakness of moral
driven justice and how these opposing views create individual interpretations of justice compared to
an objective standard.
The Sheriff can be characterized as the hero of this novel. As a law enforcement official, he represents
an objective, straightforward idea of justice. This point of view sees justice as black and white: there
are good guys and bad guys, and the good guys always overcome the bad guys. This ... Show more

Chigurh exemplifies, not all villains play by the

Teaching New Meanings For The Sorority Environment
You quickly become what you surround yourself with. This concept was a constant reminder my
mother gave me when I moved off to college. As a senior, I find this advice to hold very true when I
reflect on the organizations that I have been a part of. My sorority, Zeta Tau Alpha, has had the biggest
influence on not only my character, but my language as well. What first seemed like jargon has now
become primary language. From learning new meanings for everyday vocabulary to different
intonational patterns, my language has adapted to the environment that I have surrounded myself with
for the past three years. Within a sorority, there are various terms that are held secret due to our ritual
ceremonies; however, there are also numerous terms that we will use in everyday language. These
terms are average words that are used throughout the day by a vast majority of the world population.
However, when the words are used in the sorority environment, they take on a completely new
meaning. In other words, they are semantically altered. A primary example is the transition of the
words big and little from adjectives to proper nouns. Instead of defining an object s size, these terms
are now used to name your big and little sister in the sorority. I remember getting asked my freshman
year, Are you going to rush? I immediately thought, Rush where? As I transitioned into the Greek
community, I quickly realized that the term rush changes meaning and now means going through
sorority or

Response to 13, 1977, 21 by Jonathan Lethem
Alyssa M. Gonzalez
13, 1977, 21
In Jonathan Lethem s personal narrative essay, 13, 1977, 21 , Lethem reflects on when he was 13
years old, in the year 1977, where he watched the film Star Wars 21 times. But the essay is not
actually about the Star Wars film. It is about the way Lethem used going to the movies to remove
himself, or hide from the realities of his life, such as his mother s illness and awkward pre teenage
years.
The first few sentences of Lethem s essay is where he blatantly tells the readers that he s watched Star
Wars twenty one times in four months. He then uses the next three paragraphs to reflect on the
circumstances surrounding his trips to the movie theater in the summer of 1977 and trying to ... Show

The tone could be described as witty, but also nostalgic. Along with reflecting on his trips to the movie
theater, Lethem reflects on his awkward pre teen years, where it was speculated by his parents that he
was gay, and he followed a girl to her ballet class.
I m totally unsure, but I believe Lethem numbered each paragraph to go along with the significance of
numbers in his essay. The title itself, 13, 1977, 21 , begins to make sense once he introduces the events
of 1977, where he watched a film 21 times, at the age of 13. These three numbers are very significant
to him because he thinks of the twenty one times he watched the movie as him maturing, almost like a
Bar Mitzvah, at thirteen years old. Lethem also believed watching the movie twenty times would be
too mechanically round , and that adding the one more time would be more realistic. He also ends the
essay at paragraph twenty one the amount of times he went to see Star Wars.
Lethem s twenty one trips to the movie theater to see Star Wars was not entirely his
fascination with or liking of the movie. He used the Astor Plaza as a hiding place from the gradual
loss of his mother to natural illness, and already absent father. Watching the film so many times in the
summer of 1977 helped Lethem cope with his pre teenage struggles, and he describes it as when he
invented himself in the vacuum collision of

Event: a collection or set of one or more simple events in a sample space
Probability of an event: the sum of the probabilities of the simple events
Random experiment: an action or process that leads to one of several possible outcomes

Robert E. Lee s Second Battle Of Bull Run
Perhaps the most iconic and most widely respected of all Civil War commanders, General Robert E.
Lee was Born January 19, 1807, in Stratford Virginia. At the age of 18, Robert secured an appointment
to the United States Military Academy at West Point, and graduated second in his class in the year
1829. Two years after, he married Mary Anna Randolph Custis, who was a descendent from George
Washington. After many jobs, he worked his way up to General of the Confederate Northern Virginia s
army. In a matter of months, Lee was able to turn the tide of the war in the Confederacy s favor. His
army had a complete confidence in Robert E. Lee, but continually suffers from his tendency to push
his army farther than they can possibly go. General Robert E. Lee also won a battle called the Second
Manassas, which is also known as the Second Battle of Bull Run. This battle was fought August 28th
through 30th, 1862, and his decisive strategies led to the victory over Maj. Gen. John Pope s Army of
Virginia, even though they were badly outnumbered. The battle started with Thomas J. Jackson s
flank, capturing a Union s supply depot. Following that, he withdrew a few miles and took defensive

China s negative outlook on teen pregnancy can be concluded to the individuals around her as why she
believes what she does. Parents affect their children s views on many topics concerning various
aspects, and it seems as if China s parents have created a negative outlook on teenage pregnancy.
China says, I will never be like those breeders that bring their puffed up squalling little red faced
babies to class (Boyle 558). Her negative outlook has obviously been skewed as she believes teens
become pregnant based off of their own choice and not the product of chance. She does not seem to
understand that all the right steps can be taken to avoid pregnancy when having sex, but still the
woman can become pregnant. Her take on this subject can be attributed to believing the views of her
privileged community, families who have never been affected by teen pregnancy, and therefore, can
not give an accurate representation of their lives or how teen pregnancy may have helped their life for
the better. The quote shows her naive nature as the education on teen pregnancy does not seem
evident, but instead the words of her parents and those unaffected by teen pregnancy and taken in and

anyone that she was pregnant. Now she appears as a hypocrite as she is the one who is a

Ancient Egyptian Civilization
The ancient Egyptian civilization is arguably the oldest civilization in the world. It is believed to have
emerged around 5,500 years ago, although some scholars have estimated an even earlier date. During
the predynastic period the Egyptians were not united, but as the Sahara desert expanded many people
began moving their settlements around the Nile River. These settlements started coming together to
form towns. As these towns progressed they developed many new ideas to help the society run
smoother. However the total unification and start of the ancient Egyptian civilization did not happen,
until Hierakonpolis expanded and conquered Naqada. The ancient Egyptian civilization was now
created. Since this civilization was one of the first in the world, there was no structure to start with. In
order to function as a thriving civilization, the Egyptians had to accomplish agricultural, architectural,
medical, and educational advancements. The ancient Egyptian s advancements in agriculture is one of
the driving forces that lead to the success of their empire. The Egyptian civilization came together
because of the need for fertile soil and a constant supply of water. Although the Nile was a constant
supply of water, the Egyptians still needed to find a way to bring the water to their crops. Murray
shows the reason why irrigation was needed, In Egypt, 6000 years ago, when the latest rainy interlude
began to wane, neolithic tribesmen from both sides flocked into the Nile Valley

Internalization And Philosophical Introspection In Dorothy...
Internalization and Philosophical Introspection Contradictory to my previous rubric, the second rubric
that I created is one which focuses on internalization, or more specifically, philosophical introspection.
Introspection is another modernist literary quality that emerged after the start of World War I. The first
war had a large impact on society and that particular generation at the time, as losses were large
during the war, and grew even larger with the outbreak of influenza. To The Lighthouse by Virginia
Woolf and The Tunnel by Dorothy Richardson both are included in this rubric. To The Lighthouse is
entirely philosophical introspection and inner turmoil. The novel is narrated in third person
omniscient, therefore we are not limited to one unreliable character to recount the story. Each
character in the novel had a specific personal issue that was thought over in the text. Plot wise,
nothing happened in the novel except for the passing of time, a few deaths, and the war. All of which
were spoken of using less than two sentences. Contrary to the previous rubric, this modernist novel
was more focused on the intrapersonal connections of the characters and their inner dialogue instead
of events. In The Tunnel, the reader is faced with a strong female protagonist who arguably has just as
much philosophical introspection as the characters in To The Lighthouse. Richardson utilizes Miriam s
position in society to make a critique of how the modern woman at this time was

Empathy In Tom Wright s Black Diggers
Theatre is not only presented as a piece of art, but as a tool of social reform to express the feelings of
humans and contemporary notions of society. Plays are designed to reflect significant issues of a
society, on which they were created. The play Black Diggers by Tom Wright, uses certain devices and
forms of symbolism to emphasise not only the historical relations between Indigenous and non
Indigenous Australians, but to link ideas to contemporary issues to provoke ideas of empathy. Wright
creates a series of character encounters, to express how an Indigenous racial identity is perceived by
society and compare a period of discrimination and infringement of rights to how it is expressed at
war during World War 1. This provokes ideas of repentance ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Upon returning, Nigel went on the wireless (Wright 2015, Pg. 88) expressing his opinions behind
appalling brutality and savage butchery that took place in massacres against Aboriginal people.
Journalists responding to Nigel show difficulty in accepting his split identity as a proud aboriginal
Australian, and former soldier expressing that his opinions on his own community have been
disregarded although he had once been a respected soldier. Later, Nigel eventually becomes a sad
figure, walking against the flow of a busy city footpath, wearing a sandwich board, which reads
TARZAN THE APE MAN. He hands out flyers, but no one takes them, (Wright 2015, Pg. 90) serving
as a reminiscent reminder of his wasted potential, and he apologises, Sorry Dad and takes swig from a
bottle. Later, the play ends with Nigel in an asylum, as he talks to a psychiatric nurse, he can see the
big world... he doesn t want to join in he doesn t belong as he feels disheartened with the way
everything turned out in terms of being an ex serviceman. Nigel s legacy is intended to convey how
racial identity had affected social status, where Wright uses Nigel s nostalgic outcome to provoke
empathy and sentiment. In 1949, Harry had become a poor derro , (Wright 2015, Pg. 86) who is
begging for money, where he encounters Stan (a non indigenous ex serviceman) dressed in a suit and
all and acknowledges that his time in the war were great days. This encounter is provided by Wright to
juxtapose between the two comrades who were once equals , and now Harry has become
disadvantaged due to his racial identity. Ern and Norm experience psychological and physical
difficulties upon returning from the war, being augmented by additional trauma of returning to a life
filled with racial discrimination. These character experiences are shown by Wright

The Outsiders In The Nineteenth Century
In this small world we live in, everyone is connected. Whether one knows it, or not, we all impact
each other in some way, shape, or form. Such was the case for the outsiders who impacted a wide
variety of civilizations on the European and Asian continent. More specifically, groups such as, the
Vikings, Mongols, and Ottomans, upon entering the vast western region affected the citizens socially,
politically, and economically. During the eighth century, Europeans became aware of threats from the
north. Vikings raided the countryside eventually invading areas such as Britain and Ireland, Iceland,
Greenland, and Normandy. As stated by Alcuin in a letter to Ethelred, King of Northumbria, they left
fear in their wake: Lo, it is nearly 350 years that we and our fathers have inhabited this most lovely
land, and never before has such terror appeared in Britain as we have now suffered from a pagan race,
nor was it thought that such an inroad from the sea ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Similar to the Vikings and the Mongols, the Ottomans ravaged the countryside. However, unlike the
other outsiders, the Turks used a system to convert young men to the Islamic religion, and then forced
them to train, creating loyal soldiers. This system was called the devshirmeh system. The Ottoman
Decree also instituted schools. Moreover, every community is authorized to establish public schools of
science, art, and industry. Only the method of instructions and the choice of professors in schools of
this class shall be under the control of a mixed council of public instruction, the members of which

Hard Times And Pride And Prejudice Essay
The novels Hard Times (1854) written by Charles Dickens (1812 1870) and Pride and Prejudice
(1813) written by Jane Austen (1775 1817) are two very distinct literary works, written and published
in two completely different eras. While Austen wrote Pride and Prejudice in the Georgian era, Dickens
s novel Hard Times is a part of the Victorian age. These novels represent disparate worlds, that of rigid
and utilitarian aspects on one hand and domestic concerns over marriage and property on the other.
These novels represent women in a certain light, quite different from the each other, but the same. This
paper thus aims to analyse the portrayal of female characters by Dickens and Austen in the
aforementioned novels, in view of their gender identities ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This is an opposition with which Dickens makes extended ironic play later in the story, when Sissy
becomes the homemaker, the most settled and the most respectable member of the Gradgrind family.
She is,at the beginning of the book, not only of questionable parentage but a virtual orphan. From this
situation there develops an ironic opposition between the ties of blood and those of affectiom, for
Sissy, deprived of a family by blood, is supported by the extended, unorthodox family of the circus
people and she eventually becomes Gradgrind s honorary and truest daughter. Her love is undying and
is not affected by his loveless teaching. Her devotion brings about family feeling in her new father and
sister as when, in Louisa s grave trouble, the once deserted girl shone like a beautiful light upon the
darkness of the other (Dickens, 248). Sissy becomes the motherly, sisterly and daughterly heart of the
adoptive family and her very nickname signals her familial role throughout the story, as the
archetypical sister. However, the reward for this depiction of virtue is confined within the family.
Although Sissy grows from child to woman in years, she does not move, like most of Dickens s good
women, beyond the roles of a surrogate mother, daughter and sister to sexual maturity. Initially, the

George Pullman s Influence On Social Darwinism
Social Darwinism is a term to describe the idea that humans compete for existence just like the rest of
the animal kingdom. Darwin used this term to attempt to rationalize racism, capitalism, and
imperialism. It simplifies the human s desire for power. Now it is widely discredited and scrutinized
because its a rejection of compassion and social responsibility. (1)
These tycoons of business figured out how to use social darwinism to their benefit. They were ruthless
in the business world but were credited for creating big business and a booming economy in the US.
The so called robber barons were nothing but businessmen who knew what they were doing and used
it to their advantage.
George Pullman was an American industrialist and inventor. His father moved buildings out of the
way of the Erie Canal. George took over the business in 1853. Later he won a contract with the state
of New York to move 20 buildings out of the way. After this he came up with the idea to manufacture
and lease railroad cars on the growing railroad industry. After being unsatisfied with sleepers and
passenger cars, he created the Pullman Sleeper. These cars were immediately successful ... Show more

Let There Be Light And There Is Light
And God said, Let there be light, and there was light (Genesis 1:3). This sentence can be the most
famous sentence that has ever been written. When the light was created, the faith of the universe, earth
and humanity were completely redesigned. The control of our universe was given to its owner, light.
We were born into a universe that light governs us. However, we couldn t realize it in a short span of
time. After that moment, the perception of humanity towards light, a mysterious phenomenon, has
altered a lot; nevertheless, light has never lost its meaning of being fundamental for anything related to
human, conversely, we discovered beyond what we knew about it.
Light exhibited its significance since the existence of early humans. Thousands of years ago, humans,

Sean Vander Meulen remarks, Light is one of the fundamental forces. It is one part of the council that
governs our universe. (Vander Meulen). We learned that light is in this council after scientific
discoveries. Before these discoveries about light, we knew that light was important for sight and art;
however, scientific perspective provided much more information about light. Other than technological
developments, we learned the role of light in the universe. According to scientific discoveries of
Albert Einstein, speed of light is the speed limit in our universe, and there is nothing that can move
faster than light or reach it. This is not about how big the energy needed is, or the friction force. Even
if we will be able to provide too much energy to a spaceship someday, it won t be able to reach the
speed of light. That is a law in our universe, and it is an unbreakable one. With this new discovery, our
understanding of light completely changed again; hence, it became the fundamental limit in our
universe, from just a tool for our technological

Peter Gibbon Definition Of A Hero

a term to constantly change as the world continued and grew quickly. More people started to relate to
the word hero, or achieve a status high enough be considered a hero with their extraordinary
achievements. A person who was considered a hero was expected to have no flaws, yet we all know no
human is flawless. As the world advanced, hero was slowly becoming old fashioned due to people in
modern times not relating to the word, or not becoming a hero themselves.
In older times, what made a hero a hero? In the article Heroes for Our Age, by Peter H. Gibbon,
heroes were considered to be a higher self and was made of excellence, bravery

Efficient Market Hypothesis an
The quote shows a strong relation to the efficient market hypothesis (EMH), as it implies that the costs
of capital are dependent from the amount of information given by the company. According to my
opinion, agency theory is a good explanation for costs of capital. Agency theory defines contracts as
under which one party #8211; called principal #8211; engages another party #8211; called the agent
#8211; to perform service on the principal #8217;s behalf. Concluding, the principal delegates
decision making authority to the agent. Both sides of the contract are utility maximisers and the agent
will not necessarily act in the principal #8217;s best interests. This leads to the rise of agency costs.
Agency costs are the welfare ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Then, comparability of information needs an explanation. This leads into either one standard for
accounting procedures or different standards with firms obliged to mention which standard they have
chosen. In the past, business fought constantly against the uniformation of standards and the problem
of the latter suggestion is that it needs skilled users to evaluate the impact of the different standards on
the financial statement. As only a limited group will be able to do this, the number of possible
financers is reduced. Capital could become more expensive since in free market systems a broader
supply of capital should result into lower prices for capital and the reverse effect is true. Further,
accounting has difficulties to clearly measure performance and the value of assets. Therefore, many
different methods exist as historical cost, present value, current replacement costs, net realisable value,
and deprival value accounting and all are reasonable in their approaches. Trust of the public means
more trust in managements #8217; behaviour. This is reflected in less monitoring and reduced bonding
costs. The former reduction is obvious and with good experience in more trustworthy relationships the
monitoring mechanisms should decrease. As these costs decrease, so should the costs of capital
decrease caused by a decrease of interest expense or dividend payout. A capital market #8217;s
development is dependent from investors #8217; trust

The Transition From Drilling On Shore
Overview This project is dealing with the transition from drilling on shore to more difficult tasks that
companies are taking upon them with drilling off shore into shallow and deep water. Since drilling for
easy oil has depleted, companies are pursuing sources for the heavy oil by moving to offshore drilling.
The project was originally approved in 2014, but since the approval of the project oil prices have
plunged more than 50% percent in 2015. XYZ s Houston refinery is located on the Texas Gulf Coast
and has a capacity of 200,000 bpd. It is capable of processing mix of light and heavy crudes. The
company for years has been considering an expansion project for the Houston based refinery, which
can provide the company with an advantage due to the favorable heavy crude prices and light oil from
the Middle East. The expansion would be beneficial because bringing the heavy oil from Mexico and
Venezuela have both low shipping cost and lesser travel distance to the refinery. The expansion project
would also benefit from the Trans Canadian pipeline when it s completed which would bring heavy oil
from the Oil Sands in Canada. Objective The Houston Refinery s current configuration refines light
crudes with some capacity to refine heavy crude oil. With the proposed expansion the objective is to
increase the capacity for the heavier crude oil at the refinery, the heavy crude oil would be brought in
by tankers from Mexico and off loaded at the refinery docks and piped into the

Planning Is An Unnatural Process
Planning is an unnatural process; it is much more fun to do something. The nicest thing about not
planning is that failure comes as a complete surprise, rather than being preceded by a period of worry
and depression.
The management of time and cost are fundamentally linked. The time that a project requires will
impact directly on the cost of undertaking the project. The monitoring of the project requires that both
cost and time are measured, and because these are fundamentally linked, controls must be in place to
monitor both. It is often the case that the project schedule will include budgets and these are derived
from the estimating process.
5.1 Cost Estimating
5.1.1 Definition of cost estimating
Cost estimating is the process used to quantify the cost of services, materials and resources required to
deliver a project.
An estimate should be robust and repeatable. The estimate should contain the source information used
to calculate the estimate, and associated assumptions.
5.1.2 Purpose of a cost estimate
The purpose of a cost estimate is to determine the likely cost of the project. It may have a number of
uses, for example to create budgets, to draft proposals, to tender for work, to get approval for research
studies Depending on its purpose, the scope and detail of the cost estimate will vary.
5.1.3 Cost estimating and the project lifecycle
Cost estimating has four main stages as shown in the figure below Figure 20: Cost Estimating Process

Medical Care At The United States
Summary Medical care in the United States is complex at the individual provider level, at the system
level, and at the national level. While managed care works to streamline medical services, and
integrate systems, integration within safety net hospital systems providers that deliver a significant
level of care to vulnerable patients (Ko Et Al, 2015) and community health centers is still undergoing
transition. Although policymakers have worked to promote integration in large hospital systems, and
have been widely successful, integration among safety net providers and health care centers for the
uninsured, Medicaid and underinsured populations remains largely fragmented. The study conducted
by Michelle Ko, Julie Murphy and Andrew Bindman, in late 2015, aimed to address the challenges of
integration between the two systems and propose ways to implement integration within safety net
hospitals and community health centers. In order to do so Ko Et Al designed a qualitative study in
which recognized leadership executives of five sites were interviewed on their experiences with
service integration. The interviews were projected to last up to an hour and consisted of open ended
question that allowed for participants to highlight what they felt were the challenges to successfully
implemented integrated systems within their organizations and what strategies they implemented to
effectively navigate the challenges. This study method allowed for the researchers to identify conflicts

War s Effect On American Children In America
Children were largely effected by the war and they were to grow up fast to cope with their

factory. The children were left with new responsibilities that many had never experienced before the
war. Many were to care for their siblings and take on more household chores. Children in America
were very a lot fortunate than other children across the Atlantic. In Britain, children had to grow up

Why I Want For An Engineer
Why I Want to be an Engineer Engineering has been of particular interest to me since I was an
underclassman in high school. During sophomore year in high school, I participated in a program
sponsored by the boy scouts of America called an engineering explorer post. The group met once a
week at a different engineering firm or classroom at the Rochester Institute of Technology to learn
about the different fields of engineering and their job. Through this program, I learned of my passion
for civil engineering. I love solving problems with math and science and helping people go on with
their everyday lives. The world needs engineers and I want to be one of them.
Throughout my childhood, I constantly asked my dad questions about traffic lights, bridges, roads,
and even the sand barrels at the end of a guardrail. I also had an obsession with creating structures
from Lego bricks. I also want to be an engineer so I can build a better world for our generation. I m
most interested in civil engineering because I want to design and construct bridges and roads. As the
infrastructure in America continues to deteriorate, there is a greater and greater need for civil
engineers. Infrastructure fascinates me and I feel creating the next generation of bridges and roads in
America is something I want to be involved with.
The engineering field is also filled with numerous research opportunities. I want to find a way to
design new infrastructure to last longer than the systems being replaced.

  • 2. A Wrinkle In Time Quotes Not I, nor anyone else can travel that road for you. You must travel it yourself. It is not that far. It is within reach. Perhaps you have been on it since you were born, and did not know. Perhaps it is everywhere on water and land. Walt Whitman. In other words, you can not make others do everything for you because when you re alone you won t have them to rely on for guidance or to comfort you, sometimes you just have to do it yourself. You may already have what you need, or you may need to search or work towards it. Meg Murry from the novel A Wrinkle in Time can relate to this quote in many ways, she struggles with doing stuff by herself, instead of relying on others. Meg the protagonist of the novel has countless attributes and characteristics that show who she is, have helped her change as a person, and throughout her journey also including helping her achieve heroic acts . 2 Meg is a young self critical person that is constantly criticizing herself and being negative. Everyone tells her how she will be alright and how everything will work out, but she completely disagrees and thinks she is dumb, ugly, over emotional, a delinquent, and a person that everyone hates, except for her family For example Meg said, I don t want him to grow up to be dumb like me. (p11) An another example is A delinquent, that s what I am, she thought grimly. (p6) Seemingly, Meg has a great lack of confidence, does not fit in and is very unsure about everything. She feels she is incapable ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Argumentative Report On Forensic Evidence The Hypothesis that we are showing is that John Smith came to a complete stop on 6900 South Desert BLVD, El Paso TX and coasted into the intersection. The prosecution is stating that John Smith accelerated through the intersection at a red light. Using the formulas approved by the Court I was able to prove that my hypothesis is more likely than the prosecutions. I used the Google Earth program to assist with plotting points and paths. This software is accepted in State and Federal Courts. Two recent precedents are United States v. Lizarraga Tirado, where the defendant claimed that the photo was hearsay. The court disagreed stating Such images are produced by high resolution imaging satellites, and though the cameras are more powerful, the result is the same: a snapshot of the world as it existed when the satellite passed overhead. Because a satellite image, like a photograph, makes no assertion, it is not hearsay. Also a state case Commonwealth v. • 4. Persuasive Essay About Texting And Driving Texting while driving puts many driver s lives in danger daily. Many people feel that staying connected to the outside world and answering a quick message is more important than focusing on the road ahead or saving lives by paying attention. It can harm others on the road who are doing nothing other than trying to make it to their destination safely, which is nothing you should ever be punished for. If people would open their eyes (and keep them on the road) to the dangers of texting while driving, car accidents take place every year would decline rapidly and the roads would be much safer to drive on. Distracted drivers need to know the position they put others in as well as themselves but unfortunately most of them don t ever see what they re ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The person texting believes that since they are not under the influence, they are more in control of their driving but that is completely wrong because in turn they actually pay less attention to where/how they are driving. Just for one second can you imagine that your sister, or brother, or mother, or father tells you, I will be right back, I am just going to run to the store. but they never come back. Next imagine receiving a phone call, or a knock at the door and that horrifying news is someone in your family was hurt or even killed as a result of texting while driving. I don t think people truly understand the gut wrenching pain and feeling that comes along with this type of life altering news. Then of course you have people thinking that banning texting while driving is not fair because it is violating their freedom of speech, but do you think it s fair that someone else s life has to be taken or severely changed due to a stupid action? In William Golding s Lord of the Flies, a group of British boys were shot out of an airplane and landed on a strange island, all separated from each other. It is a very interesting novel which includes a series of intense and sad events that all play a part in leading the group of boys to their rescue off of the island. The group of boys has also come across multiple items which represent a larger and influential idea towards the reader. The fire, conch, and the specs which belong to Piggy. The symbolic conch shell in Lord of the Flies evolved its meaning throughout the novel seeing that it first represented order, became power, and ultimately a loss of civilization through the course of the book. To begin, throughout the beginning of Lord of the Flies, the conch shell becomes a symbol of order and unity. After their tragic plane crash, one element that brought the boys together was the conch shell. One of the main characters, Ralph, used the conch shell to call anyone else who is on the island, which resulted in the other boys being found and a tribe being formed. • 11. The Philosophy Of Political Science Ohlone College The philosopher, Thomas Hobbes, started out with the philosophy of political science while on his trips and visits neighboring countries outside of England to listen to other scientists discuss and learn about different forms of government. While studying, Thomas Hobbes wondered about why people allow themselves to become ruled by the government and would be the ideal form of government best for England. He answered that questioned by stating that since people were naturally wicked and shouldn t become trusted to govern themselves because they were selfish creatures and would do anything to better their position and social status, it would be best to have an absolute monarchy, which would stop the people when left alone to go back to their own evil impulse to be led into the right direction and leadership to make sure the country doesn t go into turmoil. To support this viewpoint, Thomas Hobbes asked the question, If men are naturally in a state of war, why are they carrying arms and need keys to lock their doors. In other words, even when the country is at peace, people are still using things which can get them a better advantage over others and keeping their own interests a secret from others arms to protect their interests and a lock to lock away their secrets so no one can get to it. They are often confused with concrete bricks but these are much harder and would not scrape quite so easily. Calcium silicate bricks are manufactured by mixing lime, sand or crushed silicaceous together, with enough water to allow the mixture completely hydrated to be moulded under high pressure. The bricks are then moved in and steam in autoclaved for three to fourteen hours to speed the chemical hardening. Pigments can be added during the mixing stage. In their natural state, calcium silicate bricks are white to a creamy off white colour, but the addition of ochres (buff or cream colours), iron oxides (pink, red, brown or black) or chrome oxide (green) can enable a very wide variety of colours to be produced. Analysts examine the size, shape, distribution, and location of the bloodstains to draw about what happened. BPA uses principles of biology (behavior of blood), physics (cohesion, capillary action and velocity) and mathematics (geometry, distance, and angle) to assist investigators in answering questions like: From where did the blood originate from? Blood drops are falling freely and only moving because of the pull of gravity on it. At low velocities, larger bloodstains are produced. Usually, low velocity bloodstains are a result of blood dripping from a victim. Dripping blood often falls at a 90 angle. This causes a circular bloodstain to form on the surface that hits it lands upon. The droplets range from 4mm 10mm. However, this usually happens if the victim is not moving and completely still. If droplets are falling from a moving object or person, (walking or running) they fall to the ground at an angle (see angle of impact) and the direction of the movement can be established. Spines often appear on bloodstains left behind and can be caused by drops repeatedly landing in the same place, by the distance the drop falls (larger spines indicate larger distance), or by the surface upon which the blood lands (rough surfaces cause more spines to form). • 14. Examples Of Justice In No Country For Old Men In the novel No Country for Old Men by Cormac McCarthy, there is a battle between two versions of justice. In typical western narratives, the Sheriff is the strong hero who perseveres through battle with the antagonist, and the good guys always win. However, this novel disrupts this usual ending with the introduction of a unique antagonist, Chigurh. Chigurh breaks the mold of the typical old western villain in how he manages to outsmart the law and escape. His escape is a disastrous blow to the system of justice the Sheriff has spent his life trying to maintain. Through this, the author displays a twisted, unhappy version of justice in Chigurh and how it compares to Sheriff Bell s typical, objective notion of justice on the western frontier. This interpretation showcases that sometimes justice is not between only good and bad, and good does not necessarily always win. With its alternative versions of justice, the novel illustrates the changing morality of the western frontier, the weakness of moral driven justice and how these opposing views create individual interpretations of justice compared to an objective standard. The Sheriff can be characterized as the hero of this novel. As a law enforcement official, he represents an objective, straightforward idea of justice. This point of view sees justice as black and white: there are good guys and bad guys, and the good guys always overcome the bad guys. This ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... As a senior, I find this advice to hold very true when I reflect on the organizations that I have been a part of. My sorority, Zeta Tau Alpha, has had the biggest influence on not only my character, but my language as well. What first seemed like jargon has now become primary language. From learning new meanings for everyday vocabulary to different intonational patterns, my language has adapted to the environment that I have surrounded myself with for the past three years. Within a sorority, there are various terms that are held secret due to our ritual ceremonies; however, there are also numerous terms that we will use in everyday language. These terms are average words that are used throughout the day by a vast majority of the world population. However, when the words are used in the sorority environment, they take on a completely new meaning. In other words, they are semantically altered. A primary example is the transition of the words big and little from adjectives to proper nouns. Instead of defining an object s size, these terms are now used to name your big and little sister in the sorority. I remember getting asked my freshman year, Are you going to rush? I immediately thought, Rush where? As I transitioned into the Greek community, I quickly realized that the term rush changes meaning and now means going through sorority or ... Gonzalez 13, 1977, 21 In Jonathan Lethem s personal narrative essay, 13, 1977, 21 , Lethem reflects on when he was 13 years old, in the year 1977, where he watched the film Star Wars 21 times. But the essay is not actually about the Star Wars film. It is about the way Lethem used going to the movies to remove himself, or hide from the realities of his life, such as his mother s illness and awkward pre teenage years. The first few sentences of Lethem s essay is where he blatantly tells the readers that he s watched Star Wars twenty one times in four months. I m totally unsure, but I believe Lethem numbered each paragraph to go along with the significance of numbers in his essay. The title itself, 13, 1977, 21 , begins to make sense once he introduces the events of 1977, where he watched a film 21 times, at the age of 13. These three numbers are very significant to him because he thinks of the twenty one times he watched the movie as him maturing, almost like a Bar Mitzvah, at thirteen years old. Lethem also believed watching the movie twenty times would be too mechanically round , and that adding the one more time would be more realistic. He also ends the essay at paragraph twenty one the amount of times he went to see Star Wars. Lethem s twenty one trips to the movie theater to see Star Wars was not entirely his fascination with or liking of the movie. He used the Astor Plaza as a hiding place from the gradual loss of his mother to natural illness, and already absent father. Watching the film so many times in the summer of 1977 helped Lethem cope with his pre teenage struggles, and he describes it as when he invented himself in the vacuum collision of ... It is believed to have emerged around 5,500 years ago, although some scholars have estimated an even earlier date. During the predynastic period the Egyptians were not united, but as the Sahara desert expanded many people began moving their settlements around the Nile River. These settlements started coming together to form towns. As these towns progressed they developed many new ideas to help the society run smoother. However the total unification and start of the ancient Egyptian civilization did not happen, until Hierakonpolis expanded and conquered Naqada. The ancient Egyptian civilization was now created. Since this civilization was one of the first in the world, there was no structure to start with. In order to function as a thriving civilization, the Egyptians had to accomplish agricultural, architectural, medical, and educational advancements. The ancient Egyptian s advancements in agriculture is one of the driving forces that lead to the success of their empire. The Egyptian civilization came together because of the need for fertile soil and a constant supply of water. Although the Nile was a constant supply of water, the Egyptians still needed to find a way to bring the water to their crops. • 21. Internalization And Philosophical Introspection In Dorothy... Internalization and Philosophical Introspection Contradictory to my previous rubric, the second rubric that I created is one which focuses on internalization, or more specifically, philosophical introspection. Introspection is another modernist literary quality that emerged after the start of World War I. The first war had a large impact on society and that particular generation at the time, as losses were large during the war, and grew even larger with the outbreak of influenza. To The Lighthouse by Virginia Woolf and The Tunnel by Dorothy Richardson both are included in this rubric. To The Lighthouse is entirely philosophical introspection and inner turmoil. The novel is narrated in third person omniscient, therefore we are not limited to one unreliable character to recount the story. Each character in the novel had a specific personal issue that was thought over in the text. Plot wise, nothing happened in the novel except for the passing of time, a few deaths, and the war. All of which were spoken of using less than two sentences. Contrary to the previous rubric, this modernist novel was more focused on the intrapersonal connections of the characters and their inner dialogue instead of events. In The Tunnel, the reader is faced with a strong female protagonist who arguably has just as much philosophical introspection as the characters in To The Lighthouse. Richardson utilizes Miriam s position in society to make a critique of how the modern woman at this time was ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Efficient Market Hypothesis an The quote shows a strong relation to the efficient market hypothesis (EMH), as it implies that the costs of capital are dependent from the amount of information given by the company. According to my opinion, agency theory is a good explanation for costs of capital. Agency theory defines contracts as under which one party #8211; called principal #8211; engages another party #8211; called the agent #8211; to perform service on the principal #8217;s behalf. Concluding, the principal delegates decision making authority to the agent. Both sides of the contract are utility maximisers and the agent will not necessarily act in the principal #8217;s best interests. This leads to the rise of agency costs. Agency costs are the welfare ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Then, comparability of information needs an explanation. This leads into either one standard for accounting procedures or different standards with firms obliged to mention which standard they have chosen. In the past, business fought constantly against the uniformation of standards and the problem of the latter suggestion is that it needs skilled users to evaluate the impact of the different standards on the financial statement. As only a limited group will be able to do this, the number of possible financers is reduced. Capital could become more expensive since in free market systems a broader supply of capital should result into lower prices for capital and the reverse effect is true. Further, accounting has difficulties to clearly measure performance and the value of assets. Therefore, many different methods exist as historical cost, present value, current replacement costs, net realisable value, and deprival value accounting and all are reasonable in their approaches. Trust of the public means more trust in managements #8217; behaviour. This is reflected in less monitoring and reduced bonding costs. The former reduction is obvious and with good experience in more trustworthy relationships the monitoring mechanisms should decrease. As these costs decrease, so should the costs of capital decrease caused by a decrease of interest expense or dividend payout. A capital market #8217;s development is dependent from investors #8217; trust ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 32. The Transition From Drilling On Shore Overview This project is dealing with the transition from drilling on shore to more difficult tasks that companies are taking upon them with drilling off shore into shallow and deep water. Since drilling for easy oil has depleted, companies are pursuing sources for the heavy oil by moving to offshore drilling. The project was originally approved in 2014, but since the approval of the project oil prices have plunged more than 50% percent in 2015. XYZ s Houston refinery is located on the Texas Gulf Coast and has a capacity of 200,000 bpd. It is capable of processing mix of light and heavy crudes. The company for years has been considering an expansion project for the Houston based refinery, which can provide the company with an advantage due to the favorable heavy crude prices and light oil from the Middle East. The expansion would be beneficial because bringing the heavy oil from Mexico and Venezuela have both low shipping cost and lesser travel distance to the refinery. The expansion project would also benefit from the Trans Canadian pipeline when it s completed which would bring heavy oil from the Oil Sands in Canada. Objective The Houston Refinery s current configuration refines light crudes with some capacity to refine heavy crude oil. With the proposed expansion the objective is to increase the capacity for the heavier crude oil at the refinery, the heavy crude oil would be brought in by tankers from Mexico and off loaded at the refinery docks and piped into the ... • 34. Planning Is An Unnatural Process Planning is an unnatural process; it is much more fun to do something. The nicest thing about not planning is that failure comes as a complete surprise, rather than being preceded by a period of worry and depression. The management of time and cost are fundamentally linked. The time that a project requires will impact directly on the cost of undertaking the project. The monitoring of the project requires that both cost and time are measured, and because these are fundamentally linked, controls must be in place to monitor both. It is often the case that the project schedule will include budgets and these are derived from the estimating process. 5.1 Cost Estimating 5.1.1 Definition of cost estimating Cost estimating is the process used to quantify the cost of services, materials and resources required to deliver a project. An estimate should be robust and repeatable. The estimate should contain the source information used to calculate the estimate, and associated assumptions. 5.1.2 Purpose of a cost estimate The purpose of a cost estimate is to determine the likely cost of the project. It may have a number of uses, for example to create budgets, to draft proposals, to tender for work, to get approval for research studies Depending on its purpose, the scope and detail of the cost estimate will vary. 5.1.3 Cost estimating and the project lifecycle Cost estimating has four main stages as shown in the figure below Figure 20: Cost Estimating Process 5.1.4 Estimate Types ... • 35. Medical Care At The United States Summary Medical care in the United States is complex at the individual provider level, at the system level, and at the national level. While managed care works to streamline medical services, and integrate systems, integration within safety net hospital systems providers that deliver a significant level of care to vulnerable patients (Ko Et Al, 2015) and community health centers is still undergoing transition. Although policymakers have worked to promote integration in large hospital systems, and have been widely successful, integration among safety net providers and health care centers for the uninsured, Medicaid and underinsured populations remains largely fragmented. The study conducted by Michelle Ko, Julie Murphy and Andrew Bindman, in late 2015, aimed to address the challenges of integration between the two systems and propose ways to implement integration within safety net hospitals and community health centers. In order to do so Ko Et Al designed a qualitative study in which recognized leadership executives of five sites were interviewed on their experiences with service integration. The interviews were projected to last up to an hour and consisted of open ended question that allowed for participants to highlight what they felt were the challenges to successfully implemented integrated systems within their organizations and what strategies they implemented to effectively navigate the challenges. This study method allowed for the researchers to identify conflicts ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Even though the war was not fought on American soil, American children were still affected as their fathers and brothers left to go fight, and as their mothers were off to go to work in a factory. The children were left with new responsibilities that many had never experienced before the war. Many were to care for their siblings and take on more household chores. Children in America were very a lot fortunate than other children across the Atlantic. In Britain, children had to grow up fast and become an adult. • 37. Why I Want For An Engineer Why I Want to be an Engineer Engineering has been of particular interest to me since I was an underclassman in high school. During sophomore year in high school, I participated in a program sponsored by the boy scouts of America called an engineering explorer post. The group met once a week at a different engineering firm or classroom at the Rochester Institute of Technology to learn about the different fields of engineering and their job. Through this program, I learned of my passion for civil engineering. I love solving problems with math and science and helping people go on with their everyday lives. The world needs engineers and I want to be one of them. Throughout my childhood, I constantly asked my dad questions about traffic lights, bridges, roads, and even the sand barrels at the end of a guardrail. I also had an obsession with creating structures from Lego bricks. I also want to be an engineer so I can build a better world for our generation. I m most interested in civil engineering because I want to design and construct bridges and roads. As the infrastructure in America continues to deteriorate, there is a greater and greater need for civil engineers. Infrastructure fascinates me and I feel creating the next generation of bridges and roads in America is something I want to be involved with. The engineering field is also filled with numerous research opportunities. I want to find a way to design new infrastructure to last longer than the systems being replaced. ... The decision that capital punishment may be appropriate sanction in the extreme cases is an expression of the community s belief that certain crimes are themselves so grievous an affront to humanity that the only adequate response may be the penalty of death. The courts state that this majority of the population (thirty five states) allow and approve of such extreme measures.
