Lenin And Philosophy By Louis Althusser
Marwa Answar
Introduction to Political Ideas
Prof. Marasco
February 11, 2017
Take Home Exam #1
In his essay Lenin and Philosophy Louis Althusser argued that in order for Capitalism to survive
over time, it has to find the solution to the problem of reproduction. Based on the ideas that
strengthen capitalist forms of production have to frequently adapt to the ideas from generation to
generation of workers and their employers. For Althusser, educationplays a huge part of this
reproductive process because through the education system that different generations learn the
things that will be needed in a Capitalist society which he called it the know how and good
behaviors (132). So, not only do these things includes skills and knowledge, ... Show more content

of their students. Accommodating them towards an acceptance of reality and, by insinuation, an
acceptance of hegemony. Through social learning Althusser argues a Capitalist class is able to

The Use Of Strange Places In slade House And Jordan...
Title: The Use of Strange Places in David Mitchell s Slade House and Jordan Peele s Get Out
Published in 2015, Slade House is a horror mystery written by David Mitchell. While their
storylines are quite different, the book has many similar fear inducing tactics used in Jordan
Peele s Get Out. The methods used in these two stories are what University of York professor,
John Bowen would classify as gothic motifs. These motifs break down into groups he has labeled
as clashing time periods , power and constraint , terror versus horror , a world of doubt , and
strange places (Bowen). In particular, professor Bowen describes strange places in gothic fiction as
somewhere other, different, and, mysterious (Bowen). He also claims that they are, often
threatening or violent, sometimes sexually enticing, and, often a prison (Bowen). The novel, Slade
House and the film, Get Out are both considered Gothic text because they contain the crucial
aspects of the strange places motif.
The places in Slade House are strange because they lack consistency. The author, David Mitchell,
first introduces the motif immediately when Nathan Bishop and his mother Rita, arrive in Slade
Alley. Nathan himself describes the alley as somewhere a tramp might live in a cardboard box
(Mitchell 6). Slade House itself is a strange place because it is an expansive plot of land located in a
small alley way. It is not possible that such a place could fit where it is and each of the four
protagonists

Secular Life Analysis
I can truly say that writing this piece has been one of the hardest tasks. In writing, I discovered
things about myself that I had difficulty in coming to terms with; how do I write what I really
feel without worrying about what others might think, I thought. I wrote a lot and erased a lot
more, over and over again. I feared the judgement of people, for in my life I have experienced
rejection, negative looks, insults, and alienation due to my faith. I decided to write about this
very personal subject because I am tired of people expressing their secular views and blaming
Christianity for all kinds of problems, then looking at me like if I am part of why the world is
going down the drain. I came to the conclusion that I will remain strong in... Show more content on

This society has reached the point where life no longer has any value, no rules and is sensitized to
violence and cruelty. Politics of the extreme left and far right have only polarized our society even
more. In the issue of abortion an innocent life can be taken legally, like when the germans killed
Jews legally, like when blacks were lynched here legally. At one point abortion was illegal and
now it is not, now parents do not even have to know their children are having abortions. If it is
not bad then why hide it? And if we are so sexualized, then why are we not responsible for the
side effects of one night stands and unplanned pregnancies? If I tell my friends to not have an
abortion they look at me like I am crazy, as if it is normal to kill their babies with or without
remorse or consequences because it is legal. In this world, ending a life is just a phone call away
and a trip to the murder s office, with the butcher that calls himself a doctor. How can this world
implore me to accept their ways if the reality is that it leads to broken people, to babies killing
babies and babies having babies, but its all good because freedom does not foresee consequence.
Just like Martin Luther King Jr. I have a dream for a better tomorrow for our children and all
humanity. Martin Luther King Jr. stated, I have a dream today! I have a dream that one day on
the red hills of of georgia the sons of former slaves and the sons of former slave owners will be
able to sit down together at the table of brotherhood. I have a dream that my four little children
will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin but by the

Consumerism In The United States
1.Some people argue that it is acceptable for people in the United States to consume at high levels
because their consumerism keeps the world economy going. What are the weaknesses in this idea?
Although America s consumerism may seem to help the economy of less fortunate countries, this
rampant depletion has become financially and ecologically unsustainable. Globally, 86% of
consumption expenditures comes from the 20% of the world s people in first world countries,
while the poorest 20% account for only a meager 14%. It seems that consumption has become a
function of our culture. Only by generating and selling goods does capitalism currently work; and
the more produced and purchased the more we have progress and prosperity. Additionally,

an example, because we know a person s country of origin will determine their wealth or lack there

with education. The difference in jobs for someone with their GED and someone with their

Director, Human Resources. Explain/justify your responses. (2 Marks)
i) The age distribution projection is the first external factor Johnny should be aware of and
consider. For example, Canada s population and workforce are aging, which means there will be a
reduced number of workers between the ages of 15 24. This will cause the overall workforce
population to age causing human resource professionals to spend more time creating a work
environment that supports multigenerational employees. This will require human resources to focus

i) Deal with employees by stating the company s response to pro unionization carefully. The
responses should be written to maintain consistency to avoid threatening or promising employees

employees with recognition and appreciation (Steen, Noe, Hollenbeck, Gerhart, Wright, 2013,

3. Why is job analysis often referred to as the corner stone of HR activities? (2 Marks)
Job analysis is often referred to as the corner stone of HR activities because almost every HR
management process includes some type of information gathered from job analysis. Job analysis
provides knowledge for the following HR processes: work re design, workforce planning, selection,
training and development, performance management, career planning, and job evaluation (Steen,
Noe, Hollenbeck, Gerhart, Wright, 2013, p.66 67). The information job analysis provides, acts as
the building blocks to these HR activities, thus bringing an understanding to job analysis being
referred to as the corner stone .

Observation Studies Of Evaluation And Institutional Research

Observation Studies in Evaluation and Institutional Research
Observation Methodology Paper
PSYC 724C
James Campbell
When is it appropriate to use the observation method to conduct research on subjects? Clearly, a
number of questions that researchers want or need to address relating to human behaviors or
actions cannot be addressed or answered by traditional research methods. One of the best ways to
answer a number of these questions is the use of observation. Observational research is best used
when the following factors are recognized and accommodation made to address them: Such factors

Can the participants provide the answers needed in the research questions being study?
Do the observers provide enough time to truly record the real responses of the participants?
Does the environment help or hinder the observer s observations? Will this environment best

Does the questions being asked totally represent the perspectives of the group being observed? Are
the social interactions at the observation rich enough to represent the complexity of the questions

Greasy Lake Essay
Greasy Lake Essay
In the short story Greasy Lake written by T.C. Boyle, the story is about three friends who
believe they are bad . On a particular night they go out looking for trouble, and trouble is what
they find. The tone of this story is serious, dark, and very graphic. This story is full of literary
devices. Metaphors and similes come thick and fast on the shores of Greasy Lake, and Boyle never
contents himself with one when he can offer two or three. The comparisons for their abundance, are
neither aimless nor without purpose; they enable us to see the referent from strategic points of
view. For this essay I will analyze the unnamed narrator whom is the protagonist in the story. The
story opens up with the narrator describing ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The narrator references the history of Greasy Lake saying the Indians referred to it as Wakan
(clarity of the waters). But now the narrator describes the lake as fetid and murky, the mud banks
glittering with broken glass and strewn with beer cans and charred remains of bonfires, As the boys
pull up in there parents station wagon they notice a 57 Chevy and a Chopper leaned against its
kickstand. Digby misidentifies the Chevy as one of there friends cars and they start honking
their horns and beaming their bright headlights at the car in order to interrupt the mischievous
act Tony has going on, hopefully pumping his girlfriend. All three hop out the car. The driver
gets out and mistakenly loses the keys in the grass in the process, walking up to the car they
notice there is a difference in that 57 Chevy and that of their friends Tony s but its to late. The
cars owner, a real greasy character by the name of Bobby, is a man of action who is indeed
looking for a fight. He gets the best of all three friends until the narrator gets hold of a tire iron.
The tire iron brings a turn of events. The narrator hits the greasy character on the ear and believes
he has killed him. The girl gets out of the 57 Chevy,

Informative Speech About Voodoo
It has been almost 6 months now that my girlfriend and I came back from a trip to New Orleans.
This is a town rich in history, amazing food, the locals were some of the friendliest people and
the music of the city truly seemed to act as a heartbeat that gave the city life. However,
something that truly caught my eye, were all the voodoo shops. One of their oldest cemeteries is
home to the tomb of the Voodoo Queen Marie Laveau. Unfortunately when we went, they weren t
giving tours. When most in modern society most hear the word Voodoo; they probably think
about what they ve seen on movies... witch doctors, dolls that are used to curse Indiana Jones in
the Temple of Doom or evil possession of people s bodies through spirits. However, that really isn t
the case, for a religionthat a lot of people really don t know a lot about, the religion of Voodoo or
Vodun. The name was derived from the god Vodun of the West African Yoruba people who lived
in 18th and 19th century Dahomey. The African people were shipped as slaves to Haiti and other
islands. Slaves practiced this religion but were also forced by the masters who owned them to
practice Christianity. Which if you fast forward to modern times, you will see that most adults in
Haiti and some cities in the Southern States of North America not only still practice Voodoo but
are also Roman Catholic. Though not a new religion, this religion has a lot of history and similar
beliefs of other religions. The interpretation of death and the afterlife is interesting. Before, I
touch on this its, important to know that community and the people is very important when it
comes to Voodoo as a religion. In the event of a death the community gets really involved, if a
loved one is dying, the family all tries to come together for prayer. People, who practice Voodoo,
don t believe that death is the end. When death occurs, they believe that certain rituals need to be
done to help the soul. Loved ones of the deceased perform a Rite of Reclamation which is to call
back the spirit. A priest or priestess, which are called houngan or mambo; serve as healers,

Pathophysiology Of Addison s Disease
Pathophysiology
Addison s disease is also known as Adrenocortical Insufficiency, which means the adrenal cortex
does not produce enough hormones (Understanding Medical Surgical Nursing, 2015). Addison s
disease occurs when the adrenal glands, above the kidneys, don t make enough hormones that are
essential to normal body functions (Understanding Addison s Disease, n.d.). The most common
cause of Addison s disease is due to the adrenal cortex being abnormally small or atrophied. This
causes the adrenal cortex to not produce as many hormones (Understanding Medical Surgical
Nursing, 2015). If the disease is primary, the pituitary gland may be sending out elevated levels
of ACTH (adrenocorticotropic hormone) to try to get the adrenal cortex to produce more
hormones. When the disease is secondary, the ACTH does not stimulate the adrenal cortex to
produce more hormones (Understanding Medical Surgical Nursing, 2015). Only 1 out of 100,000
people actually have Addison s disease; making it very rare. Addison s disease occurs in men and
women of any age (Understanding Addison s Disease).
Etiology, Causes, and Risk Factors
Some people believe that Addison s disease is autoimmune disease. They think the gland sort of
terminates itself. Diseases such as tuberculosis, AIDS, cancer, and fungal infections are thought to
cause the self destruction of the adrenal cortex. Hashimoto s thyroid and bilateral adrenalectomy
may also cause Addison s disease. Secondary Addison s disease

Byke Essay
To encourage a greater bike mode share, our solution is to create an app called Bykes that would
be used as an aide to bikers whenever they wanted to plan bike trips and ride along routes. The
main feature of the app is that it will route bike riders from their origin to their destination while
keeping them on designated bike lanes and trails as much as possible. The service will ask each
user what their comfort level is before the route is chosen, and then the algorithm will choose a
path that best reflects this comfort level. With a more experienced biker, the service will route
them on a more direct path, but that path might include roads that have a higher traffic volume or
roads that lack dedicated bike lanes. The more experienced... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

This will allow the roads to be rated on actual users experiences and allow for iteration of the
quality of these roads over time. The comfort rating will be dynamic instead of static. In addition
to this survey, users can also input the location of specific hazards along bike routes. This
includes hazards such as potholes or obstacles in the path, a rough pavement condition,
construction, and more. Construction was one of the more prominent issues that arose in our
Google Form survey, which makes sense because construction normally occurs at the edges of
the roadway, which is where bike lanes are often located. An example of this is seen in Figure 3.
Figure 3: Construction blocking a bike lane (Gatoona 2012). It s important to take these
obstacles into account when routing bikers, because the hazards will often cause the riders to
swerve into traffic, which will not provide for a safe and comfortable biking experience. Sources
of Data Initially, the roads will need to be evaluated for their comfort levels so they can be
properly matched with bikers that need a certain minimum comfort level. Two methods can be
used to assist in this evaluation: Bike Level of Service (BLOS) and Level of Traffic Stress (LTS).
These are two different ways of quantifying the comfort levels of the roads for bikers. They include
variables such as vehicle volumes, speed

Primate Observation Essay
On Friday, March 31, a observation study was conducted at the L.A. Zoo. The time of arrival for
the observation was at 11:48 am and the end of the observation was at 2:42 pm. The weather
condition at the zoo was very sunny with a mild gust of wind every so often, which is a perfect
weather condition to conduct a study. The main reason for conducting this observation study was to
study and gather information about the many different types of primatethat are located at the zoo.
To see how different or similar each primate is to one anotherin different aspects. The first primate
that was observed at the L.A. Zoo was the Orangutan or by it s scientific name Pongo. The
observation began around time of 12:54 pm and ended around 12:44 pm. This... Show more content

For the Orangutan in the zoo each enclosure they had a total of three orangutan in each pen, most
were all adults, except one which was a young juvenile. As well as it is appear to be that none of
these orangutan are a part of a subgroup because some, if not all isolated themselves from others.
In which is very common according to Lang C. (2005), Adult males and independent adolescents
of both sexes range alone while adult females range with their dependent and weaned offspring
(Primate Factsheet pongo, para. 1). So the zoo s orangutan act very similar to the wild ones.
Next the differences is how are they physically built between in each others. For the orangutan, if
they are standing they are about 5 feet tall, however including arm and leg span due to how they
are built to climb and swing to places their body size will be seven feet tall. Another difference
was that they had no tail due to they ancestors evolution to who they are now, which remove the
chance of having the ability to have a prehensile tail in the process. The last physically difference is
their hands. They have all fingers and thumbs, but they don t use their thumbs to grab; they use
mostly their fingers to grasp objects. Which make them who they are

The Allegorical Nature of The Lottery, by Shirley Jackson
Hit it! Hit it! Hit it! Don t lose your aim, because if you lose it, you lose the way. A birthday party
without a piГ±ata just doesn t seem to be a birthday party. There s a joy that tiptoes up and takes
over the whole party when the expectation of candy, the ability for young children to handle a bat
and destroy something, and parents can mess with the little children. The element of danger and
malice all in good fun is in the air and it makes a giddy happiness that is addictive to the point
where they are giggling and laughing before they know they are or the reason why they are.
Handling a bat blindfolded while laughing hysterically is a time that nobody should miss. In The
Lottery, by Shirley Jackson, things are done the way they have always been done, even if there is
no reason why. Certain people remember where the rituals created, and certain people seem to know
why they are important. Yet tradition is important, so they continue. The Lottery is an excellent
example of an allegorical short story. Jackson uses symbolism through the description of the
characters, significant objects, and the actions in the story.
Consider two important symbols in the story the box and the stool. The postmaster, Mr.
Summers, followed by Mr. Graves, carried the three legged stool and put it in the center of the
square. He set the black box down on it. The old box is black. Black is associated with power,
elegance, formality, death, evil, and mystery. Neither the box nor the stool

Rubiks Cube
How many of you have ever tried to solve this? I wouldn t be wrong if I say all of you, once in your
lives have tried to solve it, and I do know that you all tried to answer questions you didn t know.
What if I said the secret of the future is in a Rubiks Cube? Since the beginning of humanity
people ask themselves Where did I came from? , What am I doing where? and Where am I going?
and after all of these years we still did not know, or we only thingwe don`t know. Somethings are
just so complex that we stop trying to achieve when they actually could be easier than you think.
Trying something new or unknown to us is always a difficult task. The oldest and strongest

Not being in control means not being in charge of the outcome of whatever it is inside that box,
and this is why we are so scared about facing the unknown. Now, try to imagine this cube as the
Unknown. You don t know how to solve it, you don`t know how it works, but someway, if you
view it from a different angle, you can find its pattern and give it a meaning. Put it in a box .
When dealing with faceless things, always imagine them as things you already know and try to fit
them in a box you already have. Keep in mind that things usually are much easier than they seem
and giving up should always be the last circumstance. Replace the fear of the unknown with
curiosity. It is part of the process of evolution facing the faceless, and if you don t take risks you
will never find yourself, or find meanings for your life. I am not saying that it is easy, but it is
necessary. Get out of the box and try new things. The unknown is a door for something different,
and maybe if you open it, you will find a whole new world of experiences. The future is the
unknown, and the only secret to achieve it is to take risks and never stop trying.

German forces attained the country of Poland from all different directions, including air forces,

An Definition Of Moral Theory
Another moral theory, also born of Deontological Perspectives, comes from WD Ross. In contrast
to Kant, who stated that moral positions can be deduced by reason and are absolutely binding, Ross
believes that we determine moral positions through intuition of the rightness or wrongness on the
action. This intuition allows us to determine what our duties are while these duties are not
dependent on the outcomes or circumstances, but how we rank these duties is dependent on a
situation. In turn, this creates what Ross refers to as Prima Facieduties. Prima Facie duties are
duties that are obligatory duties that can be trumped by other duties depending on our situation.
Ross gives an example of seven of these prima facie duties in his writings: beneficence, non
maleficence, justice, self improvement, fidelity, reparation, and gratitude. These duties arise
because we intuit them to be true and binding duties. In Ross s view, all of these duties are
binding, but he does not exclude, as Kant does that these duties may overlap and run contrary to
one another in any given situation. We can only act in accordance with what our perception is of
the situation and try to do our best, but we may often fail as a result. While this theory is superior
to Kant in that it does allow for more universal applicability and wiggle room to fit various cultures,
the main issue with Ross s theory is that it relies on the intuition of flawed humans to determine self
evident duties and does not

Sex, Sexual, And Sexual Sexuality Essay
Secrets Desires
Our society has socially excepted explicit language as well as sexual undertones as a way of
introducing sex and pornography to our young people and mature adults alike. There are hidden
secret sexual desires simply because we are taught that if our sexual thoughts or desires are
different from others we are strange. Women were taught that they are damaged if they are to
engage in watching pornography or engage in altered sexual desires that are outside of the vanilla
spectrum. According to Concepcion, C. M. (1999) To deny any women any form of sexual
expression, including the enjoyment and production of pornography can stunt sexual development
and thereby, stunt the development of our sexuality, forces women to question our intuition and
police our desires .
Men and Women are being sexually inhabitied by the expression of engaging in sexual content
such as pornography by not being able to explore their needs under those circumstances they aren
t able to explore their needs, desires, and sexual needs. The issue might form when women began
to think of sexual freedom as a choice to please partners just to grab satisfaction of something
missing from their lives, allowing them to long for a touch within a conscious and unconscious
state of mind. Some would argue that the behavior would be the result of a missing father or a
mother who didn t respond with proper maternal instinct a child might have needed. There are so
many avenues that expand beyond

The Happy Accidents Of The Swing Analysis
Some men would never commission a painting to idolize their mistress, however Baron de St.
Julien felt as though he needed to immortalize his forbidden love in a painting and Jean Honore
Fragonard was the only artist of the time to agree to this request. Jean Honore Fragonard s The
Swing also known as The Happy Accidents of the Swing is a stupendous example of the Rococoera
because of how dainty and light it was which is ironic because of its adulterous themes. How
Fragonard portrayed St. Juliens vision made men of the Enlightenment uncomfortable and enraged
with the artwork because it made men look immoral and foolish.
Jean Honore Fragonard s claim to fame was The Swing, but who was he before he became
prominent in the art community? He was born in Southern France, but as a child, him and his
family moved to Paris. In Paris, he first started out as a clerk but soon garnered an interest in art
and promptly switched over to a career in art. Specifically, he worked in the studio of Jean
SimГ©on Chardin, where he most likely learned the basic properties of art, and later became the
apprentice of François Boucher, where he learned the Rococo style.1 However, before he could
become the apprentice of Boucher, Fragonard studied more advanced techniques in Italy and
France because Boucher saw potential in him, but did not want someone who was so
inexperienced under his wing. Later, Fragonard entered into a Prix de Rome competition in 1752
and won with his creation Jeroboam

The Turning By Tim Winton Analysis
Tim Winton s novel the turning has 17 short stories throughout it. Some of these stories connect
through the character and theme in many ways. Two of Winton s stories that connect well through
character and theme are long clear view and damaged goods . This text will be analysing these two
short stories and showing how they connect by finding out what characters are the same or similar
and how the themes connect.
Winton s short story long clear view is about Vic Lang, a boy who has recently moved from the
city to a country town and is faced with the issues of responsibility. Vic doesn t like it in country
town however their family didn t have a choice because his father was a police officer. He was

a short period but the family doesn t move with him so he is not home for weeks at a time.
Consequently, Vic becomes the man of the house and has a lot more responsibilities such as
chopping fire wood, doing the dishes and looking after his baby sister. Most of his time was at
school or completing homework. Taking on these responsibilities causes him to stress a lot you re
overwhelmed with school work (page 192), the only time where he is relaxed is when he is
staring down the barrel of his dad s rifle. Winton manipulates the reader to feel sympathy for Vic

The hunting community ensures that wildlife populations of game species are sustainable from
one generation to the next (Gibbons 1). Land can only feed and house so many animals before all
life naturally dies off and kills the surrounding area. Once animals are over populated something
must be done to restore balance to the ecosystem. Natural selection in the environment is not
enough for many animals to keep populations at a manageable rate. This is where hunters come in,

Each environment can only handle so many animals before the environment crumbles and the over
populated animals starve to death and overlap into other animals food and kill off many other
animals. Wildlife levels have been on the rise and are now at a point of overflowing their carrying
capacities (Emmons 3). So the need for controlling animal populations is growing. Thanks to the
increase of population of humans, we are taking more and more land which is making many
environments become much smaller or disappear. With the shrinking environments it becomes
easier to reach the carrying capacity because the carrying capacity shrinks due to the limited
environment they can access. Hunting is now a necessary mechanism for the population control of
many wildlife populations (Emmons 3). It is safer and easier for people to open hunting in many
places then it is for the government to trap and move animals to different locations where they
would survive better. Hunting promotes a better ecological balance so that forests and other
landscapes can thrive as a whole along with all of the animals that rely on the same land as those
that are over populated. Hunters not only help the environment by controlling populations, they
work with conservation and ecological groups to build and conserve wildlife and land. Hunters and

Development Of A Mentoring Program
Hybrid Assignment 3
In today s volatile business world, it is vital for organizations to engage employees both
intellectually and emotionally. Through mentoring, employees identify themselves as a vital part of
the organization while creating a heightened level of ownership. Mentoring programs are of great
value to any company. In most cases, these programs are considered essential. By developing and
implementing a mentoring program, the learning process for employees is accelerated. It is said
that mentoring can accomplish things that training cannot (Johnson). Even though, developing a
mentoring program is not an easy task, the benefits outweigh the challenges. A mentoring program
will help alleviate high employee turnover and assist in building a pipeline of diverse employees.
The development of a mentoring program begins by deciding on whether it should be a formal or
informal program. On one hand, a formal mentoring program includes 1. Connection to a strategic
business objective of the organization 2. Established goals 3. Measurable outcomes 4. Expert
training and support 4. Direct organizational benefits and 5. Mentoring engagements lasting 9 12
months ( Business mentoring matters , 2012). On the other hand, an informal mentoring program
includes: 1. Unspecified goals 2. Unknown outcomes 3. Self selection of mentors and mentees 4. No
expert training or support 5. Long term mentorship and 6. Indirect organizational benefits ( Business
mentoring matters , 2012).

The Odyssey is the epic that has been read time and time again, by varying ages, digging its way

create a much different tale than Homer s other work, the Iliad, provided. The epic is not about

who uses his wits, not his weapon. In the Odyssey, the characters balance Homer provides

Agamemnon was stabbed to death by the vengeful tag team. Agamemnon s son, Orestes,
unleashed vengeance upon his mother and her lover. Agamemnon s family is a foil for
Odysseus family life. Odysseus family loves him very dearly and has done no wrong as he was

plan to keep the suitors off her back. Telemachos on the other hand has to deal with the suitors
who are trying to marry his mother and have been dishonoring his father, Odysseus, eating their

Summary OfIndian Is Beautiful By Homero Aridjis
It may seem hard to believe but there are still indigenous people out there still suffering from
corruption and oppression from their very own government. However the indigenous people are
not fighting them alone. In 1994 Chiapas Mexico, a movement began by a group that called
themselves the Zapatistas. The Zapatistas wanted change for the indigenous people for all the
years of oppression they have suffered by the government. Indian Is Beautiful a chapter by Homero
Aridjis gives examples on why indigenous peoplesvoices don t get recognized. He also talks about
how Mexico tried to be part of the future of the United Stateseconomy, by not having indigenous
people being involved in their economy is preventing them to grow. The Governments in Mexico
ignore the indigenous people as if they don t exist.
An essay named Indian Is Beautiful by Homero Aridjis he examines what indigenous people go
through by their government. He gives examples such as toxic dumps, highways being constructed,
military raids, and tourist complexes. This shows how the indigenous peoples homes don t get a
recognition for their space by the government or companies by them coming in and taking over. It
is time that our ethnic groups become part of the Mexican body economic and politic (143,144). In
this quote, it talks about on how the indigenous people become part of society to contribute for it

Educators Should Try to Reform the Culture Essay

Resistance To Fight The Resistance Of The Holocaust
The word Holocaust evokes an undeniably bitter, terrifying and inhumane memory of the world s
history which should never happen again. The Holocaust occurred during WW2, between 1939
and 1945, and was introduced and organized by Adolf Hitler, the German leader of the Nazi Party
at that time. It is remembered as the killing of about six million Jewsin Europe. While the Nazis
were in power, Jews were hated and believed to jeopardize the purity of Germany, so they
persecuted them and passed many anti Jewish laws. For example, Jews were obliged to wear a
star of David either on an armband or a badge so they could be identified. Then, they were
arrested by the thousands, forced to live in ghettos, and later brought to concentration camps.
Some were labor camps, in which many Jews died due to starvation, forced hard labor or
diseases. However, by the early 1940 s there were new death camps that had gas chambers to help
get rid of them, like in Auschwitz. However, it is important to note that not all Jews stayed put

Low Frequency Noise And Its Effects On Community Health
Environment consist of noise from aircraft, motor vehicle, and trains which collectively
contribute to the noise created in the surrounding. In urban setting, car horns, boom cars, car
alarms and public transit system may be the concern. In suburban setting noise pollution can be
initiated from leaf blowers, barking dogs, and other power equipments. adverse health effects
appear in relation to total noise exposure from all sources rather than a single source. Low
frequency noise is strong immediate concern because of its pervasive nature as it arises from
multiple sources. Adverse health effects from low frequency noise are more severe than any other
form of community noise. VULNERABLE GROUPS The vulnerability may be referred to the
susceptibility of a person, society, group, society or system to the physical or emotional injury or
attack. Also, it has been described to the degree at which the people, resources, property system and
cultural, environmental and social, and economic activity are susceptible to harm, destruction or
degradation on being exposed to an agent or a factor. Groups at risk as mentioned in the literature
are the children, the elderly, the chronically ill and people with hearing impairment. The other
group of people is those of sensitive persons, shift workers, people with mental illness like
schizophrenia or autism, fetuses and neonates and people suffering from tinnitus5.

The Issue Of The Wild Tigers
From 100,000 to 3,500.
A hundred years ago, there where over 100,000 (Tigers) in the wild, with more than 40,000 in
India alone. Currently the total number of tigers worldwide is calculated at fewer than 3,500.
(Fraser) The population has dramatically dropped; the main reason is the healing powers of the tiger
bone. The beautiful and beneficial species for decades have been killed for their bones and skin.
There are many different tiger subspecies such as: Amur tiger, Bengal tiger, Siberian tiger,
Sumatran tigers and many more, unfortunately today there are only a few subspecies left. The high
demand for the bones and skins of tigers have not yet settled down, the black market continuously
hunts the unprotected animals. Although the issue is global, it has been unknowingly neglected
from the modern society. Many believe that the species are not endangered when they visit a zoo,
but the information states otherwise. The wild tigers are decreasing in numbers, and some predict
that in no time the species will be extinct. The lack of information one withholds, prevents them
from helping and improving the living conditions of wild tigers. In order to increase the population
of endangered tigers, we should use social media to raise awareness of the current extinction rate
and in correlation with the Government create a protection plan, regarding their territory and for
those who do harm the animals, will face serious consequences.
With the global summits that are hosted

Stereotypes and Stereotyping of Native Americans in The...
The Last of the Mohicans and Stereotyped Native Americans
[1] Native Americans were part of this country long before our founding forefathers. They were the
people that Christopher Columbus found inhabiting this land. There is even evidence to show that
they have been on the American continents for thousands and even tens of thousands of years. Yet,
somehow the European powers dominated these people, forcing them from their land to make it
ours. In the early part of the twentieth century, a new industry began to develop; we call it the film
industry. Along with the industry came movies that were made and are still made for the
amusement of a mass audience. Some flaws did come with this industry, and among them was the

Filmmakers showed what they felt had already been conventional to their beliefs about Native
Americans. In the film The Last of the Mohicans (1920) these two contrasting roles of Native
Americans dominate most of the plot. The fiend is Magua, and the noble savage is Uncas. These
two roles that are shown of Native Americans have some historical ground, but what makes one
side good and the other bad? Is it because that is how society wants to see them? And does the
director s representation of the two sides gain them acceptance in American culture? In the history
of America, Native Americantribes often became associated with similar tribes with similar
beliefs. This is true of the two tribes in The Last of the Mohicans. The Huron, who according to
the historical events of Fort William Henry are the Iroquois and the Mohicans are historically
associated with the Delaware. The Huron in the various versions of The Last of the Mohicans,
come to represent the Iroquois who were allied with the French, and were seen as evil in the eyes
of the British. The Mohicans, historically come to represent the noble Delaware, who were allied to
the British. These tribes get grouped together, the Huron [became] condensed into the same entity
as Maquas, Mingoes and Mohawks and contrasted with the superior virtue of the Delawares and
Mohicans (Clark 122). These tribes were constantly intermixed

Oxidation Of Benzoin To Benzil
This experiment performed the second step in a multistep synthesis. The reaction carried out was
an oxidation of benzoin to benzil using a recyclable copper catalyst, cupric acetate. The cupric
acetate acted as an electron acceptor in a redox type reaction. The benzoin donated an electron to
cupric acetate and formed the Cu+ ion while becoming a benzoin radical cation. The benzoin
radical cation lost a hydrogen to the Cu+ ion forming acetic acid. Another redoxcycle between
Cu2+ and the benzoin radical took place, forming a second Cu+ ion and the benzoin cation lost a
proton to another acetate ion to form the product benzil. The benzoin was oxidize to benzil as well
as the Cu+ ion was oxidized to Cu2+ using the ammonium nitrate, which was

History And Evaluation Of Total Quality Management
CHAPTER ONE INTRODUCTION
1.1: History and Evaluation of total quality management.
Total quality management (TQM) is a management philosophy developed by Deming based on his
experiences in US industry before and during the Second World War. The successive
implementation of TQM by Japanese industry, but not by the USA, is widely credited for the
former s marvelous post‐war economic modernization and the current massive trade inequity
between the two countries. Deming (1986) published a book entitled Out of the Crisis , in which
he summarized his ideas and encouraged US industry to implement them as the Japanese had done
so successfully. The TQM philosophy has also been promoted by a number of prominent writers,
principally Crosby (1979, 1984), Ishikawa (1983, 1985) and Juran (1988, 1989).
Although TQM was originally intended for the industrial sector, Deming (1986) pointed out in the
preface to his book Out of the Crisis that his management principles could be applied equally well
in service industries. The service industries, he emphasized, include government provisions,
education and the delivery . In fact, whenever an organization has a series of activities directed
towards a clear final result, it has business processes which can be examined and developed by
TQM techniques.
There are number of researchers in the field of education including, Byrnes (1992), Bonsting (1992),

The Importance Of Cultural Differences In Health Care
Today s society is a mix of all the nations, languages, traditions, beliefs and cultures. The diversity
of values is what makes society stronger, interesting, more or less acceptable to some forms of
foreign influence in one way or another. In general, the assimilation process into society goes with
an intermittent level of success, cultural differences arise when dealing with certain aspects of life.
In healthcare, people are interacting within very close physical distance, discussing intimate health
details, present at the at happy (childbirths) or tragic (death) moments, where stress can bring
patients and their families to an edge, those deep rooted cultural differences can be seen without
any cultural shields.
Cultural sensitivity and awareness is a very important aspect of modern healthcare. It works well if
staff members are aware of another cultural viewpoint and able to integrate it while providing care
(Burkhardt Nathaniel, 2014). Nursing staff, in particular, spend more time with patients than any
other provider in the health care system. Therefore, they should pay close attention when attending
to patients born in different countries, raised in in different cultures or patients whose views are
distinctly different from the caregiver s perspective.
In the emergency department, patients represent all different levels of society, gender, and sexual
orientation. Nursing staff must be aware that some patients do not see certain treatment modalities
as acceptable

of Apocalypto Set in Mexico s Yucatan peninsula (Central America), during the 16th century,
Mel Gibson s, Apocalypto follows the journey of a Mayan villager by the name of Jaguar Paw .
This adaptation of the Mayan Empire illuminates a prophecy, surrounding Jaguar. The movie
was historically accurate as far as Mayan Empire culture and the sacrificial process. The
appearance of the Mayans in this film was spot on. They had stretched ear lobes, long hair,
outlandish headdresses, burn scars, and tattoos. It didn t delve into the every day life enough for it

All in all, the movie was fun to watch. It was exciting and had a lot of great action. I liked it
about ten times better than I originally thought I was going to. I wish it would have more
accurately portrayed how the warriors would have captured the village members instead of them
being violently hammered to death. Apocalypto helped me to better understand the Maya
sacrifices, but I still question the way they rolled the sacrifices decapitated heads down the
pyramid temple. Bibliography 1. Various. MAYA, A History of The Mayans. MAYA, A History of

Julian Charriere
Panorama: Behind the scenes by Julian Charriere demonstrates how humans have manipulated the
state of nature considerably, to the extent where we are compelled to create our own vision of
nature. At first, the video administers the impression of a still image which consists of a
conventional mountain covered in snow. As the video continues, the audience detects a white man
pouring a white substance on the mountain. At this point, we recognize that this mountain is an
illusion created with soil while the snow is comprised of flour and fire distinguisher foam. The
purpose of this art piece is to lure the audience into the exposure of the truth about climate change.
Julian Charriere shot this piece with the intention to mislead the audience in viewing the mountain
by using their expectations against them. Notably, in 2016, studies have shown that this year was
the hottest year in history. As we continue to witness the seasons change on our planet, we are more
so blindly contributing the deteriation of it. Granted, the terms indirect and blindly are... Show more

A fact that we fail to realize, is that humans are the biggest contributing factor to climate change.
Since the industrial revolution, we have emitted about 375 million tonnes of carbon dioxide into
the atmosphere, thus depleting our ozone layer drastically. Because of this, the sun s rays are
becoming harsher, hence the frequent occurrence of unusual nature activity and natural disasters.
Some examples are: droughts are becoming more evident in certain areas of the world, while
glaciers are melting at such an alarming rate. Ironically, we have reached a point where our natural
resources are disappearing before our eyes; consequently, we have resorted to creating copies of
them, so to feed our guilt. This is what artist Julian Cherriere is emulating with his

will have to live with it forever. At the end of this book, Percy took a path on which he basically
had the world on his shoulders. He saw the Goddess of the hunters carrying the sky on her
shoulders, and Percy had to take the burden from her so she could fight the God of war. Percy
described it saying it felt like his bones were going to be shattered any second. Many of the

Public Green Spaces At The Mouth Of Mill Creek
[Introduction]
Cincinnati s riverfront is misused and neglected. Once the backbone of the city s economic
activity, much of it now lies vacant and abandoned. Scarred by the derelict remains of its industrial
past and cut off from the city by roads and railways, these sites are largely forgotten by the public
and show little signs of their untapped potential.
The landscape is in clear need of repair.
In some other locations, sections of the waterfront have been converted into riverfront parks. While
such public green spaces are an important factor in the success of a city, we should not be content
with merely building a standard park. Cities should use the elements given to them in their
landscape to create placemaking spaces unique to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In reality, there is no evidence of residential or recreational activities taking place in the area. In
some places the riverfront was used as a construction material dump site, with evidence of the waste
being burned on site.
Non commercial use is hampered by a lack of accessible and legal ways into the site. The site is
currently almost completely blocked off by railroads and raised roadways, with the exception of a
private road entrance on the east end, making trespassing required to access the riverfront. In
addition, the banks along the river are steep and highly susceptible to erosion. No access to the
water is possible with these conditions.
The site is completely within the flood zone and temporary flood protection only exists a fourth of
a mile beyond the site. The area along the river and mill creek is in the floodway, meaning even
minor flooding affects the area. The rest of the site is within the 100 year floodplain, meaning it
has annual flood probability of 1%.
[Proposal]
The landscape itself can serve as protection from flooding. By raising the elevation along the
riverfront, water is held back from the city. This can be done with a series of berms. When
looking at FEMA s flood maps we can see that already there are two natural exceptions to the
floodplain. On the site there are two existing berms excluded from the floodplain zone providing
protection to the area beyond them.
Innately, the landscape can be employed as

Debate Controversy Regarding Free Speech And Hate Speech
Recent events have found UC Berkeley embroiled in controversy regarding Free Speech; debate

give speeches on campus. Protests on Sproul Plaza have been planned by students who feel that
these speakers are espousing hate speech which especially targets marginalized communities on

Hydration Of Magnesium Sulphate
Introduction
Magnesium sulphate is used for a variety of purposes i.e. bath salt and as a laxative. It is a
hydrated salt and is required to be stored in a sealed container to maintain the water. Magnesium
sulphate in a solution is sprayed on plants or poured on soil, as magnesium is vital for plant growth
and respiration, it forms part of the chlorophyll molecule which is utilised by plants to convert
sunlight into energy.
This experiment was performed to determine the degree of hydration for a sample of magnesium
sulphate, the sample was heated in a crucible for ten minute periods and weighed between periods
until three concordant results were gathered.

that may have occurred during the experiment.

Analysis Of The Experiment Management And The Worker
Since the publication of the experiment report management and the worker in 1939(Gillespie,
1991) the Hawthorne studies have been playing an important role in management, psychology and

Hawthorne studies have been subject to many criticisms but it produced the fundamental changes in
the development of management thoughts. The great contribution Hawthorne studies made to the
development of modern management these experiments are identified as the most important piece
of experimental industrial social science ever undertaken. For example, Buchanan and Huczynski
(2004) indicated that the Hawthorne research revolutionized social science thinking . In this essay
we are discussing management concepts used prior to Hawthorne studies, brief introduction of
Hawthorne experiment and its findings, how Hawthorne studies reshape the modern management
thinking in the sense of social science, criticisms on Hawthorne studies and conclusion. The
theories well before Organisational behaviour concerned on increasing productivity and efficiency
by introducing machinery and optimising time spent on tasks. Taylorisum continually appalled by
workers inefficiencies, and the workers tendency to take it easy on the job. The Taylorisum was

  • 2. Lenin And Philosophy By Louis Althusser Marwa Answar Introduction to Political Ideas Prof. Marasco February 11, 2017 Take Home Exam #1 In his essay Lenin and Philosophy Louis Althusser argued that in order for Capitalism to survive over time, it has to find the solution to the problem of reproduction. Based on the ideas that strengthen capitalist forms of production have to frequently adapt to the ideas from generation to generation of workers and their employers. For Althusser, educationplays a huge part of this reproductive process because through the education system that different generations learn the things that will be needed in a Capitalist society which he called it the know how and good behaviors (132). • 3. The Use Of Strange Places In slade House And Jordan... Title: The Use of Strange Places in David Mitchell s Slade House and Jordan Peele s Get Out Published in 2015, Slade House is a horror mystery written by David Mitchell. While their storylines are quite different, the book has many similar fear inducing tactics used in Jordan Peele s Get Out. The methods used in these two stories are what University of York professor, John Bowen would classify as gothic motifs. These motifs break down into groups he has labeled as clashing time periods , power and constraint , terror versus horror , a world of doubt , and strange places (Bowen). In particular, professor Bowen describes strange places in gothic fiction as somewhere other, different, and, mysterious (Bowen). He also claims that they are, often threatening or violent, sometimes sexually enticing, and, often a prison (Bowen). The novel, Slade House and the film, Get Out are both considered Gothic text because they contain the crucial aspects of the strange places motif. The places in Slade House are strange because they lack consistency. The author, David Mitchell, first introduces the motif immediately when Nathan Bishop and his mother Rita, arrive in Slade Alley. Nathan himself describes the alley as somewhere a tramp might live in a cardboard box (Mitchell 6). Slade House itself is a strange place because it is an expansive plot of land located in a small alley way. It is not possible that such a place could fit where it is and each of the four protagonists ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Secular Life Analysis I can truly say that writing this piece has been one of the hardest tasks. In writing, I discovered things about myself that I had difficulty in coming to terms with; how do I write what I really feel without worrying about what others might think, I thought. I wrote a lot and erased a lot more, over and over again. I feared the judgement of people, for in my life I have experienced rejection, negative looks, insults, and alienation due to my faith. I decided to write about this very personal subject because I am tired of people expressing their secular views and blaming Christianity for all kinds of problems, then looking at me like if I am part of why the world is going down the drain. I came to the conclusion that I will remain strong in... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This society has reached the point where life no longer has any value, no rules and is sensitized to violence and cruelty. Politics of the extreme left and far right have only polarized our society even more. In the issue of abortion an innocent life can be taken legally, like when the germans killed Jews legally, like when blacks were lynched here legally. At one point abortion was illegal and now it is not, now parents do not even have to know their children are having abortions. If it is not bad then why hide it? And if we are so sexualized, then why are we not responsible for the side effects of one night stands and unplanned pregnancies? If I tell my friends to not have an abortion they look at me like I am crazy, as if it is normal to kill their babies with or without remorse or consequences because it is legal. In this world, ending a life is just a phone call away and a trip to the murder s office, with the butcher that calls himself a doctor. How can this world implore me to accept their ways if the reality is that it leads to broken people, to babies killing babies and babies having babies, but its all good because freedom does not foresee consequence. Just like Martin Luther King Jr. I have a dream for a better tomorrow for our children and all humanity. Martin Luther King Jr. stated, I have a dream today! I have a dream that one day on the red hills of of georgia the sons of former slaves and the sons of former slave owners will be able to sit down together at the table of brotherhood. I have a dream that my four little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin but by the continent of their ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Consumerism In The United States 1.Some people argue that it is acceptable for people in the United States to consume at high levels because their consumerism keeps the world economy going. What are the weaknesses in this idea? Although America s consumerism may seem to help the economy of less fortunate countries, this rampant depletion has become financially and ecologically unsustainable. Globally, 86% of consumption expenditures comes from the 20% of the world s people in first world countries, while the poorest 20% account for only a meager 14%. It seems that consumption has become a function of our culture. Only by generating and selling goods does capitalism currently work; and the more produced and purchased the more we have progress and prosperity. Additionally, ... • 10. Greasy Lake Essay Greasy Lake Essay In the short story Greasy Lake written by T.C. Boyle, the story is about three friends who believe they are bad . On a particular night they go out looking for trouble, and trouble is what they find. The tone of this story is serious, dark, and very graphic. This story is full of literary devices. Metaphors and similes come thick and fast on the shores of Greasy Lake, and Boyle never contents himself with one when he can offer two or three. The comparisons for their abundance, are neither aimless nor without purpose; they enable us to see the referent from strategic points of view. • 11. Informative Speech About Voodoo It has been almost 6 months now that my girlfriend and I came back from a trip to New Orleans. This is a town rich in history, amazing food, the locals were some of the friendliest people and the music of the city truly seemed to act as a heartbeat that gave the city life. However, something that truly caught my eye, were all the voodoo shops. One of their oldest cemeteries is home to the tomb of the Voodoo Queen Marie Laveau. Unfortunately when we went, they weren t giving tours. When most in modern society most hear the word Voodoo; they probably think about what they ve seen on movies... witch doctors, dolls that are used to curse Indiana Jones in the Temple of Doom or evil possession of people s bodies through spirits. However, that really isn t the case, for a religionthat a lot of people really don t know a lot about, the religion of Voodoo or Vodun. The name was derived from the god Vodun of the West African Yoruba people who lived in 18th and 19th century Dahomey. The African people were shipped as slaves to Haiti and other islands. Slaves practiced this religion but were also forced by the masters who owned them to practice Christianity. Which if you fast forward to modern times, you will see that most adults in Haiti and some cities in the Southern States of North America not only still practice Voodoo but are also Roman Catholic. Though not a new religion, this religion has a lot of history and similar beliefs of other religions. The interpretation of death and the afterlife is interesting. Before, I touch on this its, important to know that community and the people is very important when it comes to Voodoo as a religion. In the event of a death the community gets really involved, if a loved one is dying, the family all tries to come together for prayer. People, who practice Voodoo, don t believe that death is the end. When death occurs, they believe that certain rituals need to be done to help the soul. Loved ones of the deceased perform a Rite of Reclamation which is to call back the spirit. • 16. Pathophysiology Of Addison s Disease Pathophysiology Addison s disease is also known as Adrenocortical Insufficiency, which means the adrenal cortex does not produce enough hormones (Understanding Medical Surgical Nursing, 2015). Addison s disease occurs when the adrenal glands, above the kidneys, don t make enough hormones that are essential to normal body functions (Understanding Addison s Disease, n.d.). The most common cause of Addison s disease is due to the adrenal cortex being abnormally small or atrophied. This causes the adrenal cortex to not produce as many hormones (Understanding Medical Surgical Nursing, 2015). If the disease is primary, the pituitary gland may be sending out elevated levels of ACTH (adrenocorticotropic hormone) to try to get the adrenal cortex to produce more hormones. When the disease is secondary, the ACTH does not stimulate the adrenal cortex to produce more hormones (Understanding Medical Surgical Nursing, 2015). Only 1 out of 100,000 people actually have Addison s disease; making it very rare. Addison s disease occurs in men and women of any age (Understanding Addison s Disease). Etiology, Causes, and Risk Factors Some people believe that Addison s disease is autoimmune disease. They think the gland sort of terminates itself. Diseases such as tuberculosis, AIDS, cancer, and fungal infections are thought to cause the self destruction of the adrenal cortex. Hashimoto s thyroid and bilateral adrenalectomy may also cause Addison s disease. Secondary Addison s disease ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Byke Essay To encourage a greater bike mode share, our solution is to create an app called Bykes that would be used as an aide to bikers whenever they wanted to plan bike trips and ride along routes. The main feature of the app is that it will route bike riders from their origin to their destination while keeping them on designated bike lanes and trails as much as possible. The service will ask each user what their comfort level is before the route is chosen, and then the algorithm will choose a path that best reflects this comfort level. With a more experienced biker, the service will route them on a more direct path, but that path might include roads that have a higher traffic volume or roads that lack dedicated bike lanes. The more experienced... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This will allow the roads to be rated on actual users experiences and allow for iteration of the quality of these roads over time. The comfort rating will be dynamic instead of static. In addition to this survey, users can also input the location of specific hazards along bike routes. This includes hazards such as potholes or obstacles in the path, a rough pavement condition, construction, and more. Construction was one of the more prominent issues that arose in our Google Form survey, which makes sense because construction normally occurs at the edges of the roadway, which is where bike lanes are often located. An example of this is seen in Figure 3. Figure 3: Construction blocking a bike lane (Gatoona 2012). It s important to take these obstacles into account when routing bikers, because the hazards will often cause the riders to swerve into traffic, which will not provide for a safe and comfortable biking experience. Sources of Data Initially, the roads will need to be evaluated for their comfort levels so they can be properly matched with bikers that need a certain minimum comfort level. Two methods can be used to assist in this evaluation: Bike Level of Service (BLOS) and Level of Traffic Stress (LTS). A birthday party without a piГ±ata just doesn t seem to be a birthday party. There s a joy that tiptoes up and takes over the whole party when the expectation of candy, the ability for young children to handle a bat and destroy something, and parents can mess with the little children. The element of danger and malice all in good fun is in the air and it makes a giddy happiness that is addictive to the point where they are giggling and laughing before they know they are or the reason why they are. Handling a bat blindfolded while laughing hysterically is a time that nobody should miss. In The Lottery, by Shirley Jackson, things are done the way they have always been done, even if there is no reason why. Certain people remember where the rituals created, and certain people seem to know why they are important. Yet tradition is important, so they continue. The Lottery is an excellent example of an allegorical short story. Jackson uses symbolism through the description of the characters, significant objects, and the actions in the story. Consider two important symbols in the story the box and the stool. The postmaster, Mr. Summers, followed by Mr. Graves, carried the three legged stool and put it in the center of the square. He set the black box down on it. The old box is black. Black is associated with power, elegance, formality, death, evil, and mystery. Neither the box nor the stool ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 30. An Definition Of Moral Theory Another moral theory, also born of Deontological Perspectives, comes from WD Ross. In contrast to Kant, who stated that moral positions can be deduced by reason and are absolutely binding, Ross believes that we determine moral positions through intuition of the rightness or wrongness on the action. This intuition allows us to determine what our duties are while these duties are not dependent on the outcomes or circumstances, but how we rank these duties is dependent on a situation. In turn, this creates what Ross refers to as Prima Facieduties. Prima Facie duties are duties that are obligatory duties that can be trumped by other duties depending on our situation. Ross gives an example of seven of these prima facie duties in his writings: beneficence, non maleficence, justice, self improvement, fidelity, reparation, and gratitude. These duties arise because we intuit them to be true and binding duties. In Ross s view, all of these duties are binding, but he does not exclude, as Kant does that these duties may overlap and run contrary to one another in any given situation. We can only act in accordance with what our perception is of the situation and try to do our best, but we may often fail as a result. While this theory is superior to Kant in that it does allow for more universal applicability and wiggle room to fit various cultures, the main issue with Ross s theory is that it relies on the intuition of flawed humans to determine self evident duties and does not ... Sex, Sexual, And Sexual Sexuality Essay Secrets Desires Our society has socially excepted explicit language as well as sexual undertones as a way of introducing sex and pornography to our young people and mature adults alike. There are hidden secret sexual desires simply because we are taught that if our sexual thoughts or desires are different from others we are strange. Women were taught that they are damaged if they are to engage in watching pornography or engage in altered sexual desires that are outside of the vanilla spectrum. According to Concepcion, C. M. (1999) To deny any women any form of sexual expression, including the enjoyment and production of pornography can stunt sexual development and thereby, stunt the development of our sexuality, forces women to question our intuition and police our desires . Men and Women are being sexually inhabitied by the expression of engaging in sexual content such as pornography by not being able to explore their needs under those circumstances they aren t able to explore their needs, desires, and sexual needs. The issue might form when women began to think of sexual freedom as a choice to please partners just to grab satisfaction of something missing from their lives, allowing them to long for a touch within a conscious and unconscious state of mind. The Happy Accidents Of The Swing Analysis Some men would never commission a painting to idolize their mistress, however Baron de St. Julien felt as though he needed to immortalize his forbidden love in a painting and Jean Honore Fragonard was the only artist of the time to agree to this request. Jean Honore Fragonard s The Swing also known as The Happy Accidents of the Swing is a stupendous example of the Rococoera because of how dainty and light it was which is ironic because of its adulterous themes. How Fragonard portrayed St. Juliens vision made men of the Enlightenment uncomfortable and enraged with the artwork because it made men look immoral and foolish. Jean Honore Fragonard s claim to fame was The Swing, but who was he before he became prominent in the art community? He was born in Southern France, but as a child, him and his family moved to Paris. In Paris, he first started out as a clerk but soon garnered an interest in art and promptly switched over to a career in art. Specifically, he worked in the studio of Jean SimГ©on Chardin, where he most likely learned the basic properties of art, and later became the apprentice of FranГ§ois Boucher, where he learned the Rococo style.1 However, before he could become the apprentice of Boucher, Fragonard studied more advanced techniques in Italy and France because Boucher saw potential in him, but did not want someone who was so inexperienced under his wing. • 35. The Turning By Tim Winton Analysis Tim Winton s novel the turning has 17 short stories throughout it. Some of these stories connect through the character and theme in many ways. Two of Winton s stories that connect well through character and theme are long clear view and damaged goods . This text will be analysing these two short stories and showing how they connect by finding out what characters are the same or similar and how the themes connect. Winton s short story long clear view is about Vic Lang, a boy who has recently moved from the city to a country town and is faced with the issues of responsibility. Vic doesn t like it in country town however their family didn t have a choice because his father was a police officer. He was transferred to the small town to work in the community. His dad is forced to transfer again after a short period but the family doesn t move with him so he is not home for weeks at a time. The hunting community ensures that wildlife populations of game species are sustainable from one generation to the next (Gibbons 1). Land can only feed and house so many animals before all life naturally dies off and kills the surrounding area. Once animals are over populated something must be done to restore balance to the ecosystem. Natural selection in the environment is not enough for many animals to keep populations at a manageable rate. This is where hunters come in, hunters help to lower populations in environments to allow other animals and life to thrive in a humane way that costs less than any other method of control. Each environment can only handle so many animals before the environment crumbles and the over populated animals starve to death and overlap into other animals food and kill off many other animals. Wildlife levels have been on the rise and are now at a point of overflowing their carrying capacities (Emmons 3). So the need for controlling animal populations is growing. Thanks to the increase of population of humans, we are taking more and more land which is making many environments become much smaller or disappear. With the shrinking environments it becomes easier to reach the carrying capacity because the carrying capacity shrinks due to the limited environment they can access. Hunting is now a necessary mechanism for the population control of many wildlife populations (Emmons 3). It is safer and easier for people to open hunting in many places then it is for the government to trap and move animals to different locations where they would survive better. Hunting promotes a better ecological balance so that forests and other landscapes can thrive as a whole along with all of the animals that rely on the same land as those that are over populated. • 37. Development Of A Mentoring Program Hybrid Assignment 3 In today s volatile business world, it is vital for organizations to engage employees both intellectually and emotionally. Through mentoring, employees identify themselves as a vital part of the organization while creating a heightened level of ownership. Mentoring programs are of great value to any company. In most cases, these programs are considered essential. By developing and implementing a mentoring program, the learning process for employees is accelerated. It is said that mentoring can accomplish things that training cannot (Johnson). Even though, developing a mentoring program is not an easy task, the benefits outweigh the challenges. A mentoring program will help alleviate high employee turnover and assist in building a pipeline of diverse employees. The development of a mentoring program begins by deciding on whether it should be a formal or informal program. On one hand, a formal mentoring program includes 1. Connection to a strategic business objective of the organization 2. Established goals 3. Measurable outcomes 4. Expert training and support 4. Direct organizational benefits and 5. Mentoring engagements lasting 9 12 months ( Business mentoring matters , 2012). On the other hand, an informal mentoring program includes: 1. Unspecified goals 2. Unknown outcomes 3. The Holocaust occurred during WW2, between 1939 and 1945, and was introduced and organized by Adolf Hitler, the German leader of the Nazi Party at that time. It is remembered as the killing of about six million Jewsin Europe. While the Nazis were in power, Jews were hated and believed to jeopardize the purity of Germany, so they persecuted them and passed many anti Jewish laws. For example, Jews were obliged to wear a star of David either on an armband or a badge so they could be identified. Then, they were arrested by the thousands, forced to live in ghettos, and later brought to concentration camps. Some were labor camps, in which many Jews died due to starvation, forced hard labor or diseases. However, by the early 1940 s there were new death camps that had gas chambers to help get rid of them, like in Auschwitz. However, it is important to note that not all Jews stayed put accepting their destiny. Many brave and determined Jews undertook some form of resistance to fight the injustices of the Nazis. An example is Hannah Senesh, a Jewish fighter who trained as a paratrooper so she could volunteer for an organized secret mission to rescue Jews in Hungarywho were expected to be transferred to death camps in Auschwitz. Currently the total number of tigers worldwide is calculated at fewer than 3,500. (Fraser) The population has dramatically dropped; the main reason is the healing powers of the tiger bone. The beautiful and beneficial species for decades have been killed for their bones and skin. There are many different tiger subspecies such as: Amur tiger, Bengal tiger, Siberian tiger, Sumatran tigers and many more, unfortunately today there are only a few subspecies left. The high demand for the bones and skins of tigers have not yet settled down, the black market continuously hunts the unprotected animals. Although the issue is global, it has been unknowingly neglected from the modern society. Many believe that the species are not endangered when they visit a zoo, but the information states otherwise. The wild tigers are decreasing in numbers, and some predict that in no time the species will be extinct. Total quality management (TQM) is a management philosophy developed by Deming based on his experiences in US industry before and during the Second World War. The successive implementation of TQM by Japanese industry, but not by the USA, is widely credited for the former s marvelous post‐war economic modernization and the current massive trade inequity between the two countries. Deming (1986) published a book entitled Out of the Crisis , in which he summarized his ideas and encouraged US industry to implement them as the Japanese had done so successfully. The TQM philosophy has also been promoted by a number of prominent writers, principally Crosby (1979, 1984), Ishikawa (1983, 1985) and Juran (1988, 1989). Although TQM was originally intended for the industrial sector, Deming (1986) pointed out in the preface to his book Out of the Crisis that his management principles could be applied equally well in service industries. The service industries, he emphasized, include government provisions, education and the delivery . In fact, whenever an organization has a series of activities directed towards a clear final result, it has business processes which can be examined and developed by TQM techniques. To better understand the decisions students are making about whether to attend protests, Chancellor Christ and myself need to examine and explore two theories of behavior, egoistic and affective, that will give us insight into how students make... Using this Rational Choice theory, we can design a flyer that could discourage students from attending the protests as well as one that could encourage students to attend the protests. In order to discourage students from attending the protests associated with Free Speech Week and Year, the flyer needs to appeal to students self interest in staying away from the protests. One way to do this is to highlight the ineffective nature of the protests themselves and promote alternative methods to advocating for change. The text on the flyer will say, PROTESTING WILL NOT HELP YOUR CAUSE in the font Arial Black as shown as it denotes seriousness and the color red will grab the attention of those who walk by. Following this will be a picture of a standoff between police in riot gear and student protestors. Underneath this the message on the flyer will say in the font Arial Black and black ink, UC Berkeley Administration will not tolerate disturbances in day to day campus scheduling, damages to campus property, or any disruptions during class time. Those who do will find themselves subject to academic probation by the UC Administration. Following this statement the flyer will say, Consider utilizing other methods for advocating change: Contact your Student ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 56. Hydration Of Magnesium Sulphate Introduction Magnesium sulphate is used for a variety of purposes i.e. bath salt and as a laxative. It is a hydrated salt and is required to be stored in a sealed container to maintain the water. Magnesium sulphate in a solution is sprayed on plants or poured on soil, as magnesium is vital for plant growth and respiration, it forms part of the chlorophyll molecule which is utilised by plants to convert sunlight into energy. This experiment was performed to determine the degree of hydration for a sample of magnesium sulphate, the sample was heated in a crucible for ten minute periods and weighed between periods until three concordant results were gathered. Aim To determine the mass/percentage of water within the magnesium sulphate sample. Hypothesis ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... These results support the hypothesis, approximately 50% of MgSO4 s mass will consist of water molecules, made prior to the experiment. The theoretical number of molecules of H2O is seven, however this experiment resulted in six molecules of H2O, and this may be due to multiple errors that may have occurred during the experiment. From the results gathered the formula of the hydrated salt is: MgSO4 + 6H2O пѓ MgSO4 + 6H2O The theoretical formula of the hydrated salt is: MgSO4 + 7H2O пѓ MgSO4 + ... The theories well before Organisational behaviour concerned on increasing productivity and efficiency by introducing machinery and optimising time spent on tasks. Taylorisum continually appalled by workers inefficiencies, and the workers tendency to take it easy on the job. The Taylorisum was criticised by many arguing that the fundamentals of scientific management were to abuse workers rather than to benefit them (Mullins, 2005). Prior to Hawthorne studies ...
