New York City Narrative
People call New York City, the city of dreams, and I agree with them. I ve lived in Queens, New York
for 11 years exactly. While I have lived there I have experienced the most exuberant time of my life. I
empathically think that New York is the place to be when you are feeling lethargic and sluggish.
The bright lights are flashing, and Manhattan is glowing with life. There is the Empire State Building
that stands tall, and the Statue of Liberty is beautiful at night. New York had many places for me to
discover and each time it was an adventure. For example, every time on Christmas my family went to
see the big Christmas tree in the middle of Manhattan. About 1,000 people come to see the tree, and it
would be a miracle to not get lost. Even

Conrad Patterson Case Study
Sometimes second place is enough. Conrad Patterson, owner of 318 Sweet Shop, took a second place
win as just the confidence booster he needed to pursue his passion. For as long as Patterson could
remember, his mother, Linda Faye Stephenson and Uncle Larry Wallace, have baked and cooked in
professional and home settings. He would watch them bake and cook and at times would bake with
them. Following in his family s direction, Patterson attended Northwest Louisiana Technical College
(NWLTC) where he sharpened his culinary skills that he learned from his family and from working in
various restaurants. Patterson was hungry for knowledge while at NWLTC. Every chance he got, he
would take the old books the school wanted to discard and take them

Chapter five of Crispin Sartwell’s ‘Six Names of Beauty’...
Chapter five of Crispin Sartwell s Six Names of Beauty discuss the Japanese aesthetic of Wabi sabi.
Sartwell begins the chapter by describing a harmonica that he started playing at the age of fourteen.
During the recount, which included a detailed description of an old CD, Sartwell shows an evident
appreciation for the aged item and it s imperfection. The damage on its surface its crackles and skips
traces my intense relation to it, and gives it a kind of old time sounding authenticity. His description of
an old blues CD and the evident appreciation for the crackles and skips , is essentially wabi sabi. But
before explaining one of the most important aesthetic principle in Japanese aesthetics, Sartwell
describes the language as ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
An appreciation of wabi is an affirmation of the world and a certain sort of refusal of its
transformation for declaration. As an aesthetic, it s a a way of seeing imperfection as itself embodying
beauty.
Sabi, meaning loneliness , refers to the solitude as both a state of aloneness in persons and a s a
spareness of objects. It can also be considered as a subjective state that is appropriate to the experience
of wabiL a kind of desolation or meditative depression that can be sweet. Sabi is a quality of stillness
and solitude, a melancholy that is one of the basic human responses to and sources of beauty,
Wabi sabi is an aesthetic of poverty and loneliness, imperfection and austerity, affirmation and
melancholy. It is the beauty of the withered, weathered, tarnished, scarred, intimate, coarse, earthly,
evanescent, tentative, ephemeral. It is a broken earthenware in contrast to a Ming vase, a branch of
autumn leaves to a dozen roses, a lined and bent old woman in contrast to a model, a mature love as
opposed to an infatuation, a bare wall with peeling paint in contrast to a wall hung with beautiful
paintings. It is also a trap. Wabi sabi is an ever intensifying consciousness of the need to a lapse of
consciousness, an ever broadening elation of the ordinary in which the ordinary loses its ordinariness.
It is a form of beauty that overcomes the differences of beauty and ugliness, even as it overcomes the
differences of ordinary and extraordinary. The

My essay is about masculinity in the Iliad and how gender...
The War Versus Oneself
During the time period in which the Iliad took place there was a great emphasis put on masculinity.
Five specific qualities were required to obtain the venerable title of a hero. Firstly, one must be born
unto noble birth. For instance, a man born from the social status of a servant would cause the man to
be immediately looked down on for his rankings among his higher status social counterparts.
Secondly, the hero must attain strength. Without strength, the man cannot prove himself victorious
throughout battles causing him either death or the unthinkable characteristic of humiliation which in
turn causes the man more pain than death itself. Thirdly, a man must encompass courage. If a soldier

Agamemnon sees himself in control and plans to stay in control. Lastly, it is certain that both Achilles
and Agamemnon attain power. Agamemnon s power lies in his control over his country while Achilles
power rests in his physical strength and courage. Though Achilles and Agamemnon share similarities
and differences both of their personalities strive for the same goal which inevitably is the glory of war.
As a result, these characters follow the heroic code which in turn will bring the glory of war. In book
nine Achilles is faced with a dilemma between the glory of war and a life of peace and longevity.
When Achilles is tempted to take on a life of easiness he knows in his conscious that his fate does not
lay there. Thus, the importance of the heroic code tempts him back to his destined position. In book
nine Achilles makes it clear despite his anger that he will return. He states, I will not think of arming
for bloody war again, not till the son of wise King Priam, dazzling Hector batters all the way to the
Myrmidion ships and shelters, slaughtering Argives, gutting the halls with fire (9.795 798). It is
evident, regardless of Achilles anger towards Agamemnon, that he feels the heroic code luring him
back where he is most content. Conversely, Agamemnon s final goal is also to achieve the glory of
war regardless of the fact that he will not tempt to risk his life. When riches are obtained it is
inevitable

Describe The Working Conditions In The 1800 s
Six days a week I worked from siren to siren. This quote describes what it was like to work at a
plantation, it explains how it was on a regular day working on a plantation in Hawai i. Sugar was
starting to grow in Hawai i during the reign of Kamehameha III. At first there were many plantations
but then only a few grew larger and continued to produce. The larger plantations often bought the land
of the smaller ones that were not successful. These large plantations needed workers to manage the
machinery, so Kamehameha III had the idea to look abroad for workers. These workers came from
near and far to work on the plantations to get paid $3 a month. Plantation life in Hawai i in the 1800 s
was demanding. The living conditions were dreadful, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the first source it says, the workers had to share a one room house and that one house that they
shared was unsanitary. The first source also states, their houses were on the fields and had little to no
shade. They would only get a pre dawn bowl of rice that had to last them the whole day, this shows
that the workers didn t have a lot to eat. In the article it stated, the wake up call was at 5:00 in the
morning and all of them had to be at the fields by 5:30 a.m. Second, the working conditions were
terrible. According to source one, the workers had to hike to get to the fields and then spend 10 to 12
hours working on the fields. For the 10 to 12 hours that the people worked, they only received $3 a
month and were charged for many necessities, this means that the workers didn t have a lot of money.
If they worked more than 10 hours, the workers get paid more. Third, the different races were also
treated differently. The management and skilled jobs were held by whites. The camp policemen were
mostly Portuguese and Hawaiian. The asians got the hardest jobs, this means that the . Japanese cane
cutters were paid $0.99, while the filipino cane cutters were paid $0.69. Filipino string bands would

Report on: The Development of the Brazilian Insurance Industry

Executive summary
The aim of this report is try to evaluate how the insurance industry has developed in Brazil since it
began its operation in 1808, operating in the begging only with maritime insurance through company
named Boa Fé. During that time Brazil was still a colony of Portugal and Boa Fé Company had the
role to insure ships transporting valuable goods ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In 2012, that market grossed U.S. $ 252.4 billion in direct premiums of insurance, health insurance,
pension contributions and savings bonds. Such awards and contributions served to increase provisions
amounting to R$ 420 billion, which represented 5.69 % of GDP. Provisions have also secured the
payment of compensation of claims, welfare benefits and redemption of pension plans and
capitalization of R $ 135.2 billion in 2012 (3.05% of GDP). The importance of the sector exceeds, by
far, the numeric expression. Indeed, everyday life, as we know since the Industrial Revolution, would
be impossible without insurance. The companies could not take risks as they do at present, so your
investment would be severely restricted and, with them, the future expansion of the economies. Entire
markets would collapse: just imagine what would happen with the sale of cars, with the credit market
and the trade if there was not the support of insurance. The insurance industry, increasingly
supplements the State in providing critical services in health and social security, and in doing so,
allows the state to focus attention and resources on meeting the needs of the poorest sectors of the
population.
Nowadays The Brazilian insurance industry is living it golden ages. Brazil for the past two decades
has become one of the most attractive places for insurance

Orientalism Is Defined As A Way Of Viewing Eastern Cultures
Orientalism is defined as a way of viewing Eastern cultures in contrast to European and more Western
cultures. Orientalism often leads to a distorted view of these cultures, often depicting the people as
overly exotic, mysterious, or amoral. Such is the case with Shakespeare s Antony and Cleopatra. This
play was written during a time when Shakespeare was turning his attention away from claustrophobic
city life and focusing more on the world. He moves the setting of his play from Europe to Egypt, more
specifically Alexandria, the city in which Cleopatra resides. While other locations are used in the play,
the focus seems to be on Egypt and the culture there.
Just like the Europeans of Shakespeare s time, the Romans in the play viewed Cleopatra and the race
of people she represented as mysterious and were curious about them, yet were wary at the same time.
There was a combination of both xenophobia and xenophilia among the people of Europe, and these
mixed emotions are detailed in the contrast between the Roman s view of Cleopatra and the way she
actually behaves during the play. There is a difference between the Egyptian culture in the minds of
the Romans within the play and the culture that is actually depicted in the play, but there is a clear
influence of the European views of the Egyptian lifestyle in Shakespeare s work. Despite this
influence however, Cleopatra proves the stereotypes wrong by being more Roman than Mark Antony.
The Romans put a strong emphasis on

Writings Involvement with Self and Society The self is expressed in a multitude of ways ranging from
speeches to television as well as writing. Not only that but as human beings it is instinctual to make an
observation and write it down, but we tend to add our own personal view as to what we believe, or
interpret something entirely else from the observation. By reading Karen Ho s Biographies of
Hegemony and Jean Twenge s An Army of One: Me essays as well as Robert Thurman s Wisdom it is
evident that each employed a distinctive argument and method to explain their views on what they
wrote but what each of them shared in common was how their writing allowed their ... Show more

in actuality these people who run our countries finances may not be the smartest . They [investment

By Ho showing the mindset behind these people to the public she helped bring society to the
realization that the investment bankers although obtained knowledge at these elite institutions they,
investment bankers, are not very different from the rest of society. The students, investment bankers as
well as the rest of society are placed on a level playing field and in turn Ho brings them all together as

Henry Turner Movie Essay
Sigmund Freud was the first psychologist to suggest that everyone has a large unconscious. He also
identified three parts of the personality: the id, ego, and superego. Freud said that the id operates on
pleasure principle , the ego operates on reality principle , and the superego operates on moral principle
. A great showcase of the different parts of the personality can be found within the movie Regarding
Henry. In this movie Henry Turner falls victim to an armed man in his local convenience store. After
the accident Henry s personality, and life in general, undergoes a drastic change. In my opinion, Henry
s natural state is his id. In this movie, Henry Turner appears to be largely controlled by his id. One of
the first big examples of this is when he leaves the house late at night by himself to go purchase
cigarettes. Henry goes out at a dangerous hour because he feels the need for a cigarette and this is
what results in him being shot. Another example of him using his id is when he lashes out at his
caretaker, Bradley. Henry loves Bradley but when Bradley tries to tell him that it s time to go back
home Henry is overcome by emotions and lashes out. He screams at Bradley, which is very out of ...

The id is what causes your impulsive actions, the ego is what makes you step back and rationalize, and
the superego is what controls your morals. Henry Turner spends a large majority of the movie
operating on his superego. It makes him more loving and compassionate, contrary to how he acted
while operating on his id. After the accident, his natural state is definitely his superego. This film
helps to show how easily our personalities can be affected by certain events. It also shows that people
seem to become a much better person when operating on their superego, not their id. It is much better
to be thoughtful and rational than

Suspension Bridge at Location D Essay
I think a suspension bridge would be the best type of bridge to build from location D. This is because
suspension bridges typically can span distances from 2,000 to 7,000 feet long location D spans a
distance of 4,200 feet across an ocean bay where long ships come and go. The other bridges would not
be adequate enough to connect Hebron Island with the mainland. For example, an arch bridge cannot
be connected numerous times in the ocean without structural support from the ground, and can only
span short distances usually less than 800 feet. A beam bridge would not be a suitable option either
because they typically can only span distances below 200 feet, and connecting many beam bridges
together would not work either, because long ships ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Though sturdiness is a major advantage, a significant drawback to building a suspension bridge is the
costs. Steel is an expensive material to construct long, massive suspension bridges out of. Our bridge
will have to span a long distance of 4,200 feet and constructing a bridge of steel for such a great
distance will definitely be pricey. The costs of building a suspension bridge is very high and they tend
to be the most expensive type of bridge to build. In addition, over time, steal is a material that can
deteriorate quickly due to corrosion as stated by the Understanding Bridges video. Proper inspections
need to be conducted often to ensure the safety of the passengers traveling on the bridge.
When building the bridge, weather conditions are a major factor to take into consideration. For
example, when it is windy, a suspension bridge will sway from side to side or even bounce up and
down, making transportation dangerous for those traveling on the bridge. The Tacoma Narrows Bridge
is a very good example of this type of structural failure. It was built to withstand winds up to 120 mph
but it collapsed in a wind of only 42 mph after oscillating back and forth repeatedly. Since suspension
bridges are susceptible to wind, it is always a challenge for engineers to keep the vertical and lateral
swayings within safe limits. Transporting the equipment to build a bridge above such a huge mass of
water

Tetralogy of Fallow is a surgically, treatable disease characterized by all or a combination of at least
four congenital birth defects. It accounts for 10% of all congenital heart defects that modify the
formation of the heart. It also alters the way blood flows through the heart. Tetralogy of Fallow is
usually diagnosed at birth or infancy and with surgery a child can live a relatively normal life. The
prefix tetra means four and the term fallot is named after a French doctor who first discovered the
disease in the 1800 s. Appropriately named after the discovery, Tetralogy of Fallow came about
because of the four heart defects observed. One major complication that manifest from Tetralogy of
Fallow is a lack of oxygen flowing out of the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This obstruction causes a decrease in oxygen perfusion to the lungs also resulting in cyanosis.
Newborns with severe narrowing are cyanotic. A characteristic murmur is usually always present.
Severe pulmonary stenosis causes heart failure. The third defect is Right Ventricular Hypertrophy,
which causes a thicker than normal right ventricle. Right ventricular hypertrophy occurs because the
heart pumping action becomes harder creating an increase in the hearts work load. Subsequently, this
causes a thicker and more muscular heart muscle. This defect causes also causes a reduction in oxygen
flowing to the body. The left side of the heart may be underdeveloped from increased work load on the
right side of the heart. The fourth and last defect involves an overriding aorta. According to the
American Heart Association, this occurs when the artery that carries oxygenated blood is displaced
and arises above both ventricles. Therefore, oxygen poor blood flows straight into the aorta (Jacobs
9/2012). The major complication with an overriding aorta as it relates to Tetralogy of Fallow is a
deficit in blood flow makes it difficult for oxygenated blood to reach the lungs to gain oxygen for the
body tissues. The normal flow of blood through the heart is disrupted. Even though, Tetralogy of
Fallow is a congenital heart condition with four abnormal defects implicated as the cause, with early
interventions it

The Pros And Cons Of The Colonization Of Mars
If the human race is to continue for another million years, we will have to boldly go where no one has
gone before, said Stephen Hawking in 2008. The interplanetary migration of our species has been a
stimulating prospect for ages, and, as technology is advancing by the minute, we are only getting
closer to its realization. For this prospect, Mars is the sole candidate. There are many reasons why this
is so, and there are many reasons as to why we should undergo the colonization of Mars now. But why
Mars in particular? Because it is the nearest celestial body that also happens to be very similar to
Earth. A day on Mars only forty minutes longer than a day on Earth, which, to plant and animal life,
would be familiar. Not only that, but Mars axis tilts similarly to how Earth does, which means that
Earth and Mars have similar seasonal patterns. These two aspects would provide colonists familiarity
rather than alienation. Not only this, but Mars is the closest planet to Earth that is potentially
inhabitable. (Venus is closer to Earth than Mars but highly uninhabitable.) Most interestingly, Mars
has sizeable reservoirs of ice mostly beneath its surface, which then could be uprooted and thus
usable. No other celestial body within the Sun s liveable boundary (called the Goldilocks zone ) have
these conveniences, making Mars the best option for interplanetary habitation.
Pursuing Mars colonization now would directly improve modern technology and life. Alexander

Theme Of Reputation In The Crucible
Reputation is extremely important in a town where social standing is tied to one s ability to follow
religious rules. Your good name is the only way you can get other people to do business with you or
even get a fair hearing. Of course, reputation meant nothing when a witchcraft accusation was staring
you in the face. But reputation is what made the Reverend hale begin to doubt whether the accused
individuals were actually guilty. And it was for the sake of his reputation and his friends reputations
that John Proctor refused to sign a false confession. He would, quite literally, rather die. Although
John Proctor goes to his death falsely condemned as a witch, he gains his reputation and respect
among those who matter, like his wife, because he refuses to falsely identify his friends and
neighbours as witches. The loss of Abigail s reputation toward the end of the play shows that
characters in The Crucible eventually earn the reputations they deserve, despite the personal tragedies
that might take place along the way. Having a good reputation is very important in The Crucible. It
means you can be accepted by society. If you do not have a good name, you will be completely
rejected. John Proctor would no longer be thought of a morally straight and righteous person.
Reverend Parris would lose all his respect and not be accepted by society. Judge Danforth would be
constantly questioned and lose his job. Keeping and maintaining your good name is an overwhelming
theme in The

Toyota s Nature Of Strategy Implementation Essay
Toyota s Nature of Strategy Implementation: The Toyota Motor Company has always been one of the
most popular auto mobile manufacturing companies in the world. Some of Toyota s organization
standards have been a motivation to numerous organizations. Some of them are to make familiarity
with the issues, build up capacity to take care of the issue, make move conventions, make framework
mindfulness at all levels and urge the capacity to educate. Toyota reported a noteworthy change in
their hierarchical structure as a major aspect of their persistent change strategy. Toyota has been

TCF7L2 Case Study
Discussion
TCF7L2 has been shown to be associated with T2MD in multiple ethnic groups. In the past two years
common single nucleotide polymorphism (SNP), rs7903146, located in intron 3 of the TCF7L2, has
been shown to be one of the most convincing susceptibility variants for T2DM. In the present report,
we examined the association betweenrs7903146 of the TCF7L2and serum leptin and ghrelin level, in
control and T2D subjects.
It is important to consider that TCF7L2 is expressed in different tissues, having important roles in
glucose metabolism such as gut, brain, liver, skeletal muscle, fat, and bones )24(.
The recent researches also have shown that leptin and ghrelin plays an important role in maintaining
the energy balance of the organism ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the current study, there is a significant negative correlation between leptin and ghrelin, , meaning
when one increases, the other decreases.
Some other studies also have shown a negative correlation between leptin and ghrelin levels in the
body (37,38).
In our study population, there is a significant association between the T allele of the rs7903146 and
T2D. The odds ratio of T allele in the present study was (CI 95%; 0.26 (0.12,0.57), 1.36, p=0.26).
The OR obtained in this study is higher than almost all other ORs in the previous studies in other
populations, showing the importance of this SNP in Iranian population.
In our study, the frequency of TT genotype of the SNP examined was significantly higher in T2D
subjects, compared to the control subjects (50.6 vs. 15.6%, respectively; p 0.001), while the CC and
CT genotype frequency of SNP, rs7903146 were higher in control than patient subjects. The risk for
T2D was significantly higher for the TT genotype, compared with the CC genotype, resulted in odds
ratio of (95% CI: 0.12(0.42,0.32), 2.15, p 0.001)
In line with our allele frequency results, Amoli et al. (39) also reported Allele and genotype
frequencies were significantly different between patients and controls TT vs. CT + CC [p 0.0081 OR
3.4 95%CI (1.27 11.9)] and T vs. C allele [p0.02 OR 1.4 95%CI (1.03 1.9)].

The Pros And Cons Of Fukushima
In an attempt to cool down the reactors, the scientists that works at Fukushima filled each containment
barrier with sea water and a mixture of boric acid. The Boric acid is often used as a flame retardant
and a neutron absorber and is commonly found involved with nuclear reactors because of its high
cross section for neutron capture. It is often referred to as a neutron poison. The brown on the mixture
decreases the chances of increased thermal fission because it sorbs some of the thermal neutrons.
Fission chain reactions are often powered by the probability the free moving neutrons will result in
fission. By adding boric acid to a coolant, the odds thats a neutron will cause additional fission is
greatly reduced. Unfortunately, when ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
And not only did the radiation affect farming and land, but it also had devastating effects on the ocean
s ecosystem. Because of the Fukushima nuclear meltdown, the Pacific Ocean experienced more
discharge of radioactive waste than any other ocean in the world. The immediate effects were
devastating for fishers. Around 56% of all of fisher s catches had noticeable traces of cesium. Because
of such drastic conditions, drastic measures were taken to ensure safety of Japanese citizens. Fishing
was banned off some coasts of the countries for months before it became regulatory again. The
possible threat of radiation poisoning was so great because many were afraid that it would lead to the
regular indigestion of low levels of radiation which can be extremely harmful to the body s internal
organs, causing ionization to the body s cells that lead to cancer. But in a article published in 2015 by

Impressionist Works Of Claude Monet
(1) Impressionist chooses themes from everyday life and painting outdoors. The goal was to get a
representation of a spontaneous and direct world, and for that they focused on the effects of natural
light on objects. They mainly focus on light, moment and the space. The abstract impressionist used
reason and intellect, divided into figurative and non figurative, the non figurative had no known forms
they are pure images coming from the author s mind. It is mechanical and can be cold. Figurative
abstraction uses real forms but distorted and simplified even to lose its basic characteristics it is free
might please the eye, because the author seeks to convey our emotions without seeking cosmetic
beauty are simplified geometrics forms , without any apparent order nor purpose. This being said one
can conclude that Claude Monet s (an impressionist) painting Coquelicots has been called landscaping
painting because it reflects a scene from nature. His painting doesn t show great detail on people s
faces nor does shows details on things , rather his painting focuses on the moment that the artist tries
to express in his work. Through Claude Monet s painting one can easily guess the time in history
where the painting took place. On the other hand, Mondrian s painting Broadway Boogie Woogie even
though belongs to a different period in the art moment, it s painting shows clear similitudes to Claude
Monet s Coquelicots . Broadway Boogie Woogie also comes from the artist

Women s Suffrage, Gender Equality, And The Right To Vote
Women s Suffrage This essay is about women s suffrage, gender equality, and the right to vote.
Women fought for a long time and women never stopped trying. Let s talk about some of the strategies
women used to earn the right to vote. There is many different ways women protested, here are just
some of the steps they took to get their rights. Do you think things have to be equal to be fair? Let s

further objection involved property. In 1900, few women were householders or lodgers, if the vote

Socrates The Apology
The Apology is a piece of writing, where Socrates is addressing all of his accusers about the all of the
wrongdoings that he has been accused of having a part in. The story starts off in a courtroom, where
Socrates is addressing the men of Athens about the persuasive words of his accusers (Plato 1).
Socrates states that he is a man of old age, being over seventy years old (1). He states that this trial is
the first time he has ever been in a court of law, and he asks them to excuse any language that he may
repeat (1). The Apology is a great piece of literature that gives the arguments of Socrates, in his
defense, to the two accusation brought on him by his accusers. The first of the two charges brought

Who Built The Temple Of Athena Nike And Parthenon
There are many architects that have built incredible structures. They used a range of styles and designs
to build such structures. Some of the styles and designs were turned into realties, others were not so.
Of the architects who turned their style and designs into realities, are Anthemius of Tralles and
Isidorus of Miletus, who built Hagia Sophia as a church. However, Hagia Sophia would be converted
to a mosque. Another architect is Kallikrates, who built the Temple of Athena Nike and Parthenon,

William Shakespeare s Power Of Power
What does it take to stay in power in Ancient Rome? Power is inequitably distributed between those
who rule and those who are subjects. However, one individual controlling many citizens is a tenuous
circumstance. Controlled chaos, hyperbolized real life theater, maintains the power of leaders by
promoting a sense of fear, unpredictability and helplessness amongst constituents. Many Roman
leaders perceive their hold on power to be tenuous at best, and this insecurity also drives rash actions.
On the other hand, powerful leaders rely on certain structures that serve their power. Indeed, these
structures also support the illusion and confusion. This tension, between the unordered and ordered
demonstrates the psychotic and ruinous character of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Tacitus notes, These and the like sentiments suited the people, who craved amusement, and feared,
always their chief anxiety, scarcity of corn, should he be absent (Annals, 15.36). Just as many of
Trimalchio s guests are dependent on his food, many laypeople in Rome are dependent on Nero s
handouts, giving him absolute control over their psyche. Nero finds what people need and then seeks
to control that need for his own benefit. To build his own house he exerts tremendous control by
taking away something that matters to the populace. Seutonius writes, He also coveted the sites of
several granaries, solidly built in stone...having knocked down their walls with siege engines, he set
the interiors ablaze. (Seutonius, Book VI, p. 38). Nero is blatantly aware that these citizens need grain,
but his needs trump theirs and also his exercise of power makes him stronger in this instance. Along
with this notion of control and psychological power, Nero also introduces an element of
unpredictability to prey on his populace further. Tacitus writes of the great fire, A disaster followed,
whether accidental or treacherously contrived by the emperor, is uncertain, as authors have given both
accounts, worse, however, and more dreadful than any which have ever happened to this city by the
violence of fire (Annals, 15.38). That writers allude to Nero s possible

Diversity at Deloitte
Gender amp; Diversity Plan and Policies
When talking about equality opportunities implemented by companies, we can make a differentiation
between two different models, the liberal and the radical one.
The liberal model, described by Jewson and Mason, is emphasized on a philosophy of sameness ,
where people should have access to and be assessed within the workplace as individuals, regardless of
social category.
In the other hand, the radical approach is focused on a positive discrimination where employment
practices are deliberately manipulated in order to obtain a fair distribution of those disadvantaged
groups in the workplace, and it is also focused in achieving not only equality of opportunity but also
equality of outcome. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Mexican Pottery Research Paper
Mexicans brought new ideas, designs, and techniques to the world of pottery dating back to the time
of the Aztec Indians. Initially, Mexican pottery was developed for the needs of their culture and has
changed throughout history. The glazing and decorative techniques separate them from other cultures
showing unique styles. Mexican Pottery is mostly known by where it is from, and some of the more
popular works come from Puebla, Oaxacan, and Mata Ortiz. Because pottery does not decay, ancient
pieces have been found showing us a glimpse of Mexican art history.
Dating all the way back to the Aztecs, Mexican pottery has been sculpted by hand to serve many

Finally, since training is the basis of BSC, employees demanded to learn and develop new skills need

The Importance Of Being An Educated Person
School provides a place for mental, physical, and ethical development. Character is taught and learned
in many settings: in the classroom, in the hallways, in the lunchroom, and on the sports field As, Diane
Ravitch stated in her essay The Essentials Of A Good Education . So, now I wonder what does it mean
to be an educated person. Well, today I am going to give you an explanation of what it means to be an
educated person in my own opinion. I will also be narrating one particular experience from my own
life which lead me to the conclusion of this term. My experience is in reference to my job; which has
made me expand my knowledge. Further more this made me the educated individual I am today.
(Ravitch 111,112).
In my early adolescence I considered education being just solely a term referring to public high school
and college classes. I was taught in order to have a good future I had to graduate from both and land a
good paying job. So, due to this expectation of graduating from college; I always would and look up
to people with a degree. I classified anyone else with out a degree into a category who was beneath
someone who had a college education. This speculation that any one with out a degree was stupid was
later proved wrong. After, I had a first hand experience I was able to understand the importance of real
life situations. The interesting thing about my development as an individual; I am constantly able to
learn new skills as long as I have an open mind. This leads

Winter At Valley Forge Analysis
Decision for Valley Forge
In Winter at Valley Forge, 1777 1778, I made a choice that I wouldn t be able to change afterwards. I
thought that Paris is more excited for the revolution than all of the United States together. That is not a
good thing. Valley Forge was only 18 miles northwest of Philadelphia. This is where we will watch the
British. I have decided to re enlist for three reasons which are because the army needs more soldiers,
the conditions at camp, and what would be life back at home.
My whole family took part of Boston Tea Party in 1773 without me. This leads to the Declaration of
Dependence in 1776. That is when I knew I should re enlist because I can sense another war coming .

There was no informed consent given to the participants to be part of the dataset. It is evidence that

Kirkegard and Bjerrekaer collected data from people who answered at least 1,000 questions on

Schultze Mason (2012) states that children are a vulnerable population that should be protected from

The reason is that some of the OKCupid s questions could be very personal, and parents and guardians

To remedy this situation, we must go back to getting consent. However, children should not be

Secret Sorrow Sorrowful Woman Essay
There are many differences between A Secret Sorrow and A Sorrowful Woman . One difference is the
problems that the two women face. In A Secret Sorrow Faye deals with a physical problem, the
inability to produce children. In A Sorrowful Woman on the other hand the unnamed wife deals with a
psychological problem, making it more complex and difficult to fix. Another difference is the role the
men play in the stories. Kai, from A Secret Sorrow has a forceful role, he plays the role of the average

Sorow is more easily received because its romantics. It s a romantic story of love triumphing over
sorrow. It comes comlete with a a fairy tale ending and a long marriage. A Sorrowful Woman is rather
unromantic and said. In a way its somewhat pathetic and causes readers to be confused and frustrated

contempt for her own child and sees motherhood as a burden all while neglecting a devoted and
understanding husband. Its especially hard to enjoy such a story after reading about a woman so
distraught after fidning out that she cant have childen that she thinks she is unworthy of love. A Secret
Sorrow is romantic and more humanist while A Sorrowfull Woman seems cold and confusing. It s
easy for childhood fairy tales to manifest and influence authors in their adult lives. Both Van Der Zee

What Is Chaucer s Use Of Satire In The Canterbury Tales
The Canterbury Tales is a story in which Geoffrey Chaucer began writing in 1836 and never finished.
The author was very sneaky as he mentioned ways to mock the Church. He wasn t fond of how
corrupt the Church and religion in general was becoming in his day an age. All that mattered was
money, not the people. Chaucer utilizes his satirical comments and remarks against the Prioress, the
Monk and the Friar to show that the Church has become detrimental, in lieu of being a place of hope
and charity. The Prioress, who took the vow of poverty and charity seemed to care about her
appearance and valued animals over people. This is what Chaucer found satirical about her role as a

repentance for those who believe they ve sinned. He boasts about it too, and doesn t cry for those who
donate. Chaucer displays this to show that the Friar is giving an excuse to take the money, and the
satire shows in the way he is described, as if this is truly what a friar is all about. His tippet was stuck

knows every tavern in town, and that it s better knowing the barmaids and hosts rather than being

The Classical Theory Of Criminal Activity
It is only appropriate to believe that the severity of penalties given to an individual whom committed a
crime should be proportionate to the crime in which they engaged in, no more than what is necessary,
but enough in order to deter the offender from participating in another crime. This approach is applied
in such ways because it is believed that criminal activity is a rational choice, chosen because they
perceive it to be in their best interest. Criminals make a rational choice and choose to do criminal acts
due to maximum pleasure and minimum pain (Classical School of Criminology, 2012) Cesare
Beccaria contributed to the classical theory greatly, and introduced several attributions to the justice
system which advanced it immensely. Views were consistent with Beccaria s utilitarian beliefs that
sought to maximize the public benefit by achieving the greatest amount of good for the most people .
(Newman, Freilich 133 1997; Newman Margongiu, 1997) The Classical Theory has resulted in
positive advancements in the justice system for various reasons. Firstly, it is forward looking
utilitarian models designed to promote the public good (Freilich, J., 2014, 138), also, it embraces
scientific principles to achieve their goals and seek to temper harsh punishments of their times
(Freilich, J., 2014, 138). These are beneficial for the justice system because communities
independently choose the crime reduction strategy which they are comfortable with, and believe will

Anorexia Nervosa Is A Disorder Characterized By Abnormal...
Anorexia nervosa is a disorder characterized by abnormal eating behaviors. People with anorexia have
a fear of gaining weight which causes them to try and maintain a low weight. They will do anything to
prevent weight gain. This includes starvation and exercising too much. They do this because not only
do they have the fear of gaining weight they have a distorted body image which means even if they are
extremely thin they will believe that they are overweight. (Ehrlich, 2015). Anorexia is not really about
food and weight at its core. Many eating disorders are much more complicated than that and they run a
lot deeper than just appearance. The real cause of the disorder could be depression, loneliness,
insecurity or feeling out of control. Typically, things that just weight loss cannot cure. (Smith and
Segal, 2015). It is an emotional disorder that focuses on food. People with anorexia believe that their
self worth is tied to how thin they are. Anorexia is common especially in young woman in
industrialized countries where cultural ideals encourage woman to be thin. Anorexia is also affecting a
growing number of men, particularly athletes and those in the military who wish to be thin. (Ehrlich,

Summary Of The Girl With The Pearl Earrings
Johannes Vermeer painting of the girl with the pearl earrings, is often referred to as the Mona Lisa of
the north. The girl is believed to be his eldest daughter named Maria. In the article interpretation of the
girl with the pearl earrings, the writer acknowledges that this painting isn t a portrait but a study of the
girls head. The work can not be distinguished from other vermeer paints partly because of the term
tronie which means common type of art or works. Vermeer heads looked similar except for the girl
with the pearl earrings. The composition in this painting is different too, in most vermeer paintings
they have a dominant settings and you can clearly state what the setting is. The painting is pitch black
behind the woman s face which is usual for his paintings. Also the writer agrees that the unusual direct
contact between subject and spectator, and the slightly parted position of the lips, presents a sense of
intimacy which is also present in the allegory of the catholic faith. The writer believes that the most
significant part of the painting is the teardrop shaped pearl earrings that are in the painting. The theory
on the earrings is that there is a religious meaning to them. De Sales wrote a book that stated women
should protect their ears from unclean words, and that they should allow them to hear only chaste
words, The oriental pearls of the gospel. It seems that the pearl earrings in Vermeer s painting

group, the more likely different individuals with varied backgrounds are required. The influence of
volunteers allows youth teams and leagues to fill their needs (Bouchet and Lehe, 2010). Volunteer
recreational sports organizations are then charged with identifying and convincing a ... Show more

Regardless the reason for their involvement, the general disposition of these coaches presents an
opportunity for education and increasing efficacy. Volunteer coaches were sought to have an
intentional disposition to learning for reasons such as inquisitiveness, self efficacy, and open
mindedness (Griffiths and Armour, 2013). Additionally, the disposition of reciprocity for volunteer
coaches to gain knowledge included reasons of cooperation and mutual exchange of information
(Griffiths and Armour, 2013). The review of literature intends to display the research surrounding
volunteer recreational youth sport coaches, the motivators for participation, and the educational
opportunities for this population.
Terms and Definitions A key to defining this group and their responsibilities is to explain their status.
The term volunteer is defined as, persons who did unpaid work (except for expenses) through or for an
organization (USDL, 2015). The nature of a professional, or someone who is paid for their work,
demonstrates an implicit motivator in the payment. The duties and responsibilities that are performed
by the person whether the duties are assigned or created by the person also have a general connotation.
The collection of activities these individuals perform is known in the literature as volunteering

What s Wrong With Gay Marriage By Katha Pollitt
The essay written by Katha Pollitt, titled, What s wrong with gay marriage is an intriguing one. At
first, the author, explains the notion that marriage and procreation do not necessarily go hand in hand.
And later, she carefully interprets the true meaning of marriage; by stating that there is a separation of
church and state. Most importantly, the author speaks to her audience in a clear and logical manner;
without adding personal biases. Although the essay may seem to have deterministic view on social
behavior. Nonetheless, I believe that does not disqualify the series of argument which she makes.
Pollit expounds on the true meaning of marriage; by looking at the history of marriage. For a period of
time, polygyny was the rule; ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Rather, it is something deeper more genuine a union which does not need to follow social order. It is
about two people loving each other for how they naturally know how to. This makes the reader come
to the understanding that gay marriage is not an attention seeking behavior; but instead a sincere
desire for another. Pollit concludes by saying the only objection to gay marriage is based on religious
prejudice. Which means that there is no logical reasoning behind people disapproval of gay marriage.
Rather, it is merely something which someone else s god dislikes. At the end marriage is not defined
by religion; but instead interpreted by the government. Even if the holy book tells you to wed all the
people in apartment 3G your still not allowed to do so.
Regarding the controversial issue of same sex marriage. It seems that Pollit is trying to justify same
sex marriage by comparing it to a legal substandard marriage (A man can marry a woman no matter
how ill acquainted). And in the essay of gay Marriage societal suicide by Charles Colson, he takes the
same approach by disregarding all the issues of traditional marriage. Both of these essays are guilty of
distorting the readers perception of what is a good marriage by vastly exaggerating the

any two consecutive, greatly attached civilizations .there are many points of comparisons regarding
their building types, building techniques, materials and art. As long as the presence of differences
there are many similarities that actually exist.
If we started with the similarities between them, we would find out that they both concerned about
symmetry, using stonework (marble), columns, and esplanades. They brought up numerous statues and

Cry, the Beloved Country by Alan Paton
Alan Paton who was a South African author and anti apartheid activist wrote the novel Cry, the
Beloved Country, The novel publication in 1948 was just before South Africa institutionalized racial
segregation under Apartheid. Paton addresses the destruction of the tribal system in South Africa due
to white colonization by using the novel as a medium to illustrate is damage. Throughout the novel we
are exposed to the numerous problems resulting from the colonization. Communities are in collapse,
the land is bare, people are starving, and families are broken. These fictional communities and people
are based on the real problem Paton saw in South Africa. The concern of native crime by the whites is
a result of changes in the social ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The most dramatic lost is of Stephen own son. Absalom while in Johannesburg is corrupted by his
cousin and break into numerous white people s homes. Absalom is the only one of three found guilty
in the burglary that lead to the death of Arthur Jarvis because he is the only one to admit his mistake
while the other two, one being his cousin, denies any connection. Colonization and the unbearable life
established by whites in South Africa has lead to the lost of family and sense of community. The
Kumalo family serves are a prime example. They are act as individuals rather than a group in
Johannesburg and this ends with numerous broken relationships such as John to Gertrude, Gertrude
with her son, Absalom and his cousin. The family is battered and bruised as a whole, opposite of the
tribal system of the Ndotcheni community that values togetherness and family. The deterioration of
the tribal system can be stopped, but not without the help of the whites they must come together with
the blacks to solve both their problems such as white priests like Father Vincent and black priests like
Mismangu who lived and worked together to better themselves and those around them. It is not the
fact that the tribal community and valves are broken by the whites, but the tragedy is that they are not
mended again. The white has broken the tribe... It suited the white men to break the tribe. But is has
not suited him to build something in the place of what is broken (56).

Similarities Between Captain America And Beowulf
When someone thinks of a superhero, they think of someone that is strong and immortal. Someone
that can t be defeated yet, they go into battle with as much bravery as someone that goes into battle
knowing they CAN be defeated. Every superhero has traits that make them great, but they also differ
in many things as well. Although Captain America and Beowulf are similar in their weaknesses,
strengths, and bravery, they also differ in their motivations, character traits, and heroics, making
Captain America the better hero. All superheroes have weaknesses. Whether it s physically or
mentally, they all have weaknesses that they struggle with that try to prevent them from being the best
that they can be. Captain America and Beowulf share a similar weakness of the ability to get mortally
wounded, due to the fact that they are both regular human beings. The advantage of Captain America
though is that, due to the soldier serum, Captain America s age is slowed down (Frost). This is so
important because this was a major factor in why Beowulf died. Because Beowulf was growing old,
he wasn t as strong as he used to be. Therefore he wasn t strong enough to fight the dragon (Beowulf
800 805). Unlike Beowulf, Captain America s slow aging advantage will allow him to have strength
and abilities that will allow him to fight for a long time. Just as superheroes have weaknesses, they all
have strengths too. Although it is said that Beowulf is, ...greater and stronger than anyone in this

Regulating Dietary Supplements Essay
According to the 2002 Harris poll, seven out of ten adults in the United States take vitamins, minerals,
herbs, or other supplements (Schardt 2). Due to media advertising, dietary supplements are becoming
more popular. Companies compete to have the best supplements. It is said that forty percent of
American adults take vitamin supplements and over the counter products, which total in several billion
dollars (Farley 2). Although many of the supplements claim to be healthy and help lose weight, the
dangers are endless. Dietary supplements can be illegally spiked and are not safe. Therefore, putting
regulations on dietary supplements and their safety hazards is necessary. To begin, the Federal Food
and Drug Administration does not have ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Mild symptoms are hardly reported to physicians and health agencies and consequently there are more
problems that remain undiagnosed (Schardt 5). The side effects experienced by the consumers believe
that their symptoms are normal and do not report them. A 2001 report by the U.S. Department of
Health and Human Services estimated that only about one out of one hundred adverse reactions are
reported to the FDA (Schardt 5). The FDA then has to prove that it poses a risk to the consumers
before the product is able to be banned. Also, the FDA has found 300 products that are frauds. These
products are usually in dietary supplements, sexual enhancement supplements, and bodybuilding
products. These products contained unapproved stimulants (Starling 1). Michael Levy, the FDA s
director in its Division of New Drugs and Labeling Compliance said, These products are
masquerading as dietary supplements they may look like dietary supplements but they are not legal
dietary supplements (Starling 1). Most adverse reports consist of liver damage, strokes, heart attacks,
kidney failures, and death. The Federal Food and Drug Administration noted that it had, worked with
industry to to recall more than forty products marketed for weight loss more than seventy products
marketed for sexual enhancement more than eighty products marketed for body building (Starling 1).

Our Screwed Up Punishment System
Anyone with a TV has heard about large criminal cases in which a man or women has attacked a
group of people. We are informed of the victims, the violence, and the amount of deaths. Any channel
at a certain point is talking about the crime, it then becomes the only thing people are talking about.
Cases such as Casey Anthony, George Zimmerman, James Holmes, and Ariel Castro are cases that
have been talked about on the news, talk shows, and late night. In this list not all have a mental illness
but because of what they have done society has grouped them together, they are evil people who
deserve to rot in hell. People no matter the reason should be punished for what they did. The way we
as a society see it is that these monsters should go ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The issue of this is that the inmates are not in the right state of mind to survive in a jail and therefore
look for ways to get out of it by killing themselves or others. When things like fights happen it makes
jail unsafe for both inmates and guards. This to me is important because if jails are full of people with
mental illnesses we are not helping them get better, we are letting them basically kill themselves and
not care for their well being. It is easy to see that the problem is the lack of unberstany of mental
illness because we live in a society that does not help other when they do something wrong; we
believe that they deserve what they get, and that shouldn t be the case. What I mean is that when a
person does something wrong and kill others or try to hurt other we see that person as an bertrand to
society and want nothing to do with them. What we do not take into consideration is that that person
can be mentally ill and have no control over what they have done. The article Mental Illness and
Violence talks about criminals that are violence and what factors play a large roll in a persons actions
and behavior. The factors that contribute to a person being violent come down to background,
emotions, and if they choose to use substances. The fact that in the article people with substance abuse
are likely to become violent and sent to jail without looking in to what is going on with them
mentality. It is seen that if

  • 2. New York City Narrative People call New York City, the city of dreams, and I agree with them. I ve lived in Queens, New York for 11 years exactly. While I have lived there I have experienced the most exuberant time of my life. I empathically think that New York is the place to be when you are feeling lethargic and sluggish. The bright lights are flashing, and Manhattan is glowing with life. There is the Empire State Building that stands tall, and the Statue of Liberty is beautiful at night. New York had many places for me to discover and each time it was an adventure. For example, every time on Christmas my family went to see the big Christmas tree in the middle of Manhattan. Sartwell begins the chapter by describing a harmonica that he started playing at the age of fourteen. During the recount, which included a detailed description of an old CD, Sartwell shows an evident appreciation for the aged item and it s imperfection. The damage on its surface its crackles and skips traces my intense relation to it, and gives it a kind of old time sounding authenticity. • 6. My essay is about masculinity in the Iliad and how gender... The War Versus Oneself During the time period in which the Iliad took place there was a great emphasis put on masculinity. Five specific qualities were required to obtain the venerable title of a hero. Firstly, one must be born unto noble birth. For instance, a man born from the social status of a servant would cause the man to be immediately looked down on for his rankings among his higher status social counterparts. Secondly, the hero must attain strength. Without strength, the man cannot prove himself victorious throughout battles causing him either death or the unthinkable characteristic of humiliation which in turn causes the man more pain than death itself. Thirdly, a man must encompass courage. If a soldier was frightened going ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Agamemnon sees himself in control and plans to stay in control. Lastly, it is certain that both Achilles and Agamemnon attain power. Agamemnon s power lies in his control over his country while Achilles power rests in his physical strength and courage. Though Achilles and Agamemnon share similarities and differences both of their personalities strive for the same goal which inevitably is the glory of war. As a result, these characters follow the heroic code which in turn will bring the glory of war. In book nine Achilles is faced with a dilemma between the glory of war and a life of peace and longevity. When Achilles is tempted to take on a life of easiness he knows in his conscious that his fate does not lay there. Thus, the importance of the heroic code tempts him back to his destined position. In book nine Achilles makes it clear despite his anger that he will return. He states, I will not think of arming for bloody war again, not till the son of wise King Priam, dazzling Hector batters all the way to the Myrmidion ships and shelters, slaughtering Argives, gutting the halls with fire (9.795 798). It is evident, regardless of Achilles anger towards Agamemnon, that he feels the heroic code luring him back where he is most content. Conversely, Agamemnon s final goal is also to achieve the glory of war regardless of the fact that he will not tempt to risk his life. When riches are obtained it is inevitable ... This quote describes what it was like to work at a plantation, it explains how it was on a regular day working on a plantation in Hawai i. Sugar was starting to grow in Hawai i during the reign of Kamehameha III. At first there were many plantations but then only a few grew larger and continued to produce. The larger plantations often bought the land of the smaller ones that were not successful. These large plantations needed workers to manage the machinery, so Kamehameha III had the idea to look abroad for workers. These workers came from near and far to work on the plantations to get paid $3 a month. Plantation life in Hawai i in the 1800 s was demanding. The living conditions were dreadful, ... Provisions have also secured the payment of compensation of claims, welfare benefits and redemption of pension plans and capitalization of R $ 135.2 billion in 2012 (3.05% of GDP). The importance of the sector exceeds, by far, the numeric expression. Indeed, everyday life, as we know since the Industrial Revolution, would be impossible without insurance. The companies could not take risks as they do at present, so your investment would be severely restricted and, with them, the future expansion of the economies. Entire markets would collapse: just imagine what would happen with the sale of cars, with the credit market and the trade if there was not the support of insurance. The insurance industry, increasingly supplements the State in providing critical services in health and social security, and in doing so, allows the state to focus attention and resources on meeting the needs of the poorest sectors of the population. • 9. Orientalism Is Defined As A Way Of Viewing Eastern Cultures Orientalism is defined as a way of viewing Eastern cultures in contrast to European and more Western cultures. Orientalism often leads to a distorted view of these cultures, often depicting the people as overly exotic, mysterious, or amoral. Such is the case with Shakespeare s Antony and Cleopatra. This play was written during a time when Shakespeare was turning his attention away from claustrophobic city life and focusing more on the world. He moves the setting of his play from Europe to Egypt, more specifically Alexandria, the city in which Cleopatra resides. While other locations are used in the play, the focus seems to be on Egypt and the culture there. Just like the Europeans of Shakespeare s time, the Romans in the play viewed Cleopatra and the race of people she represented as mysterious and were curious about them, yet were wary at the same time. There was a combination of both xenophobia and xenophilia among the people of Europe, and these mixed emotions are detailed in the contrast between the Roman s view of Cleopatra and the way she actually behaves during the play. There is a difference between the Egyptian culture in the minds of the Romans within the play and the culture that is actually depicted in the play, but there is a clear influence of the European views of the Egyptian lifestyle in Shakespeare s work. Despite this influence however, Cleopatra proves the stereotypes wrong by being more Roman than Mark Antony. The Romans put a strong emphasis on ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

He also identified three parts of the personality: the id, ego, and superego. Freud said that the id operates on pleasure principle , the ego operates on reality principle , and the superego operates on moral principle . A great showcase of the different parts of the personality can be found within the movie Regarding Henry. In this movie Henry Turner falls victim to an armed man in his local convenience store. After the accident Henry s personality, and life in general, undergoes a drastic change. In my opinion, Henry s natural state is his id. In this movie, Henry Turner appears to be largely controlled by his id. One of the first big examples of this is when he leaves the house late at night by himself to go purchase cigarettes. Henry goes out at a dangerous hour because he feels the need for a cigarette and this is what results in him being shot. Another example of him using his id is when he lashes out at his caretaker, Bradley. This is because suspension bridges typically can span distances from 2,000 to 7,000 feet long location D spans a distance of 4,200 feet across an ocean bay where long ships come and go. The other bridges would not be adequate enough to connect Hebron Island with the mainland. For example, an arch bridge cannot be connected numerous times in the ocean without structural support from the ground, and can only span short distances usually less than 800 feet. A beam bridge would not be a suitable option either because they typically can only span distances below 200 feet, and connecting many beam bridges together would not work either, because long ships ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Though sturdiness is a major advantage, a significant drawback to building a suspension bridge is the costs. Steel is an expensive material to construct long, massive suspension bridges out of. Our bridge will have to span a long distance of 4,200 feet and constructing a bridge of steel for such a great distance will definitely be pricey. The costs of building a suspension bridge is very high and they tend to be the most expensive type of bridge to build. In addition, over time, steal is a material that can deteriorate quickly due to corrosion as stated by the Understanding Bridges video. Proper inspections need to be conducted often to ensure the safety of the passengers traveling on the bridge. When building the bridge, weather conditions are a major factor to take into consideration. For example, when it is windy, a suspension bridge will sway from side to side or even bounce up and down, making transportation dangerous for those traveling on the bridge. The Tacoma Narrows Bridge is a very good example of this type of structural failure. It was built to withstand winds up to 120 mph but it collapsed in a wind of only 42 mph after oscillating back and forth repeatedly. Since suspension bridges are susceptible to wind, it is always a challenge for engineers to keep the vertical and lateral swayings within safe limits. It accounts for 10% of all congenital heart defects that modify the formation of the heart. It also alters the way blood flows through the heart. Tetralogy of Fallow is usually diagnosed at birth or infancy and with surgery a child can live a relatively normal life. The prefix tetra means four and the term fallot is named after a French doctor who first discovered the disease in the 1800 s. This obstruction causes a decrease in oxygen perfusion to the lungs also resulting in cyanosis. Newborns with severe narrowing are cyanotic. A characteristic murmur is usually always present. Severe pulmonary stenosis causes heart failure. The third defect is Right Ventricular Hypertrophy, which causes a thicker than normal right ventricle. Right ventricular hypertrophy occurs because the heart pumping action becomes harder creating an increase in the hearts work load. Subsequently, this causes a thicker and more muscular heart muscle. This defect causes also causes a reduction in oxygen flowing to the body. The left side of the heart may be underdeveloped from increased work load on the right side of the heart. The fourth and last defect involves an overriding aorta. According to the American Heart Association, this occurs when the artery that carries oxygenated blood is displaced and arises above both ventricles. Therefore, oxygen poor blood flows straight into the aorta (Jacobs 9/2012). The major complication with an overriding aorta as it relates to Tetralogy of Fallow is a deficit in blood flow makes it difficult for oxygenated blood to reach the lungs to gain oxygen for the body tissues. The normal flow of blood through the heart is disrupted. Even though, Tetralogy of Fallow is a congenital heart condition with four abnormal defects implicated as the cause, with early interventions it ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 14. The Pros And Cons Of The Colonization Of Mars If the human race is to continue for another million years, we will have to boldly go where no one has gone before, said Stephen Hawking in 2008. The interplanetary migration of our species has been a stimulating prospect for ages, and, as technology is advancing by the minute, we are only getting closer to its realization. For this prospect, Mars is the sole candidate. There are many reasons why this is so, and there are many reasons as to why we should undergo the colonization of Mars now. But why Mars in particular? Because it is the nearest celestial body that also happens to be very similar to Earth. A day on Mars only forty minutes longer than a day on Earth, which, to plant and animal life, would be familiar. Not only that, but Mars axis tilts similarly to how Earth does, which means that Earth and Mars have similar seasonal patterns. These two aspects would provide colonists familiarity rather than alienation. Not only this, but Mars is the closest planet to Earth that is potentially inhabitable. (Venus is closer to Earth than Mars but highly uninhabitable.) Most interestingly, Mars has sizeable reservoirs of ice mostly beneath its surface, which then could be uprooted and thus usable. No other celestial body within the Sun s liveable boundary (called the Goldilocks zone ) have these conveniences, making Mars the best option for interplanetary habitation. Pursuing Mars colonization now would directly improve modern technology and life. Alexander Kumar explained ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 15. Theme Of Reputation In The Crucible Reputation is extremely important in a town where social standing is tied to one s ability to follow religious rules. Your good name is the only way you can get other people to do business with you or even get a fair hearing. Of course, reputation meant nothing when a witchcraft accusation was staring you in the face. But reputation is what made the Reverend hale begin to doubt whether the accused individuals were actually guilty. And it was for the sake of his reputation and his friends reputations that John Proctor refused to sign a false confession. He would, quite literally, rather die. Although John Proctor goes to his death falsely condemned as a witch, he gains his reputation and respect among those who matter, like his wife, because he refuses to falsely identify his friends and neighbours as witches. The loss of Abigail s reputation toward the end of the play shows that characters in The Crucible eventually earn the reputations they deserve, despite the personal tragedies that might take place along the way. Having a good reputation is very important in The Crucible. It means you can be accepted by society. If you do not have a good name, you will be completely rejected. Figurative abstraction uses real forms but distorted and simplified even to lose its basic characteristics it is free might please the eye, because the author seeks to convey our emotions without seeking cosmetic beauty are simplified geometrics forms , without any apparent order nor purpose. This being said one can conclude that Claude Monet s (an impressionist) painting Coquelicots has been called landscaping painting because it reflects a scene from nature. His painting doesn t show great detail on people s faces nor does shows details on things , rather his painting focuses on the moment that the artist tries to express in his work. Through Claude Monet s painting one can easily guess the time in history where the painting took place. Women fought for a long time and women never stopped trying. Let s talk about some of the strategies women used to earn the right to vote. There is many different ways women protested, here are just some of the steps they took to get their rights. Do you think things have to be equal to be fair? Let s find out. One reason why women suffered is because they would try to do everything they could do, and it progressed to other countries. Women would hold signs, have marches, have sit ins, have meetings, and would starve themselves to get equality. Women didn t feel like they were getting treated fairly. The first woman to lead the women s suffrage was Millicent Fawcett, and Carrie Chapman Catt. Grolier says This was formed in 1904, after a few years European countries decided to vote...... Accordingly Allice Paul organized the National Women s party which used strategies like mass marches and hunger strikes. The organization led to victory on August 26, 1920. In 1900, few women were householders or lodgers, if the vote were given to them, then it would have to be given also to men who were not householders or lodgers. However, one individual controlling many citizens is a tenuous circumstance. Controlled chaos, hyperbolized real life theater, maintains the power of leaders by promoting a sense of fear, unpredictability and helplessness amongst constituents. Many Roman leaders perceive their hold on power to be tenuous at best, and this insecurity also drives rash actions. On the other hand, powerful leaders rely on certain structures that serve their power. Indeed, these structures also support the illusion and confusion. Nero finds what people need and then seeks to control that need for his own benefit. To build his own house he exerts tremendous control by taking away something that matters to the populace. Seutonius writes, He also coveted the sites of several granaries, solidly built in stone...having knocked down their walls with siege engines, he set the interiors ablaze. This approach is applied in such ways because it is believed that criminal activity is a rational choice, chosen because they perceive it to be in their best interest. Criminals make a rational choice and choose to do criminal acts due to maximum pleasure and minimum pain (Classical School of Criminology, 2012) Cesare Beccaria contributed to the classical theory greatly, and introduced several attributions to the justice system which advanced it immensely. The work can not be distinguished from other vermeer paints partly because of the term tronie which means common type of art or works. Vermeer heads looked similar except for the girl with the pearl earrings. The composition in this painting is different too, in most vermeer paintings they have a dominant settings and you can clearly state what the setting is. The painting is pitch black behind the woman s face which is usual for his paintings. Also the writer agrees that the unusual direct contact between subject and spectator, and the slightly parted position of the lips, presents a sense of intimacy which is also present in the allegory of the catholic faith. The writer believes that the most significant part of the painting is the teardrop shaped pearl earrings that are in the painting. The theory on the earrings is that there is a religious meaning to them. • 40. The Backbone Of A Recreational Sport And Organization CHAPTER TWO: REVIEW OF LITERATURE Chapter Overview Introduction The backbone of a recreational sport and organization are the volunteers committed to the success and continuation of the organization. The most important group of individuals within a youth sports organization is volunteer coaches (Bouchet and Lehe, pg. 21, 2010). The diversity of a community organization requires many unique needs to be addressed and serviced. The greater the diversity of a group, the more likely different individuals with varied backgrounds are required. The influence of volunteers allows youth teams and leagues to fill their needs (Bouchet and Lehe, 2010). Volunteer recreational sports organizations are then charged with identifying and convincing a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Regardless the reason for their involvement, the general disposition of these coaches presents an opportunity for education and increasing efficacy. Volunteer coaches were sought to have an intentional disposition to learning for reasons such as inquisitiveness, self efficacy, and open mindedness (Griffiths and Armour, 2013). Additionally, the disposition of reciprocity for volunteer coaches to gain knowledge included reasons of cooperation and mutual exchange of information (Griffiths and Armour, 2013). The review of literature intends to display the research surrounding volunteer recreational youth sport coaches, the motivators for participation, and the educational opportunities for this population. Terms and Definitions A key to defining this group and their responsibilities is to explain their status. The term volunteer is defined as, persons who did unpaid work (except for expenses) through or for an organization (USDL, 2015). The nature of a professional, or someone who is paid for their work, demonstrates an implicit motivator in the payment. The duties and responsibilities that are performed by the person whether the duties are assigned or created by the person also have a general connotation. The collection of activities these individuals perform is known in the literature as volunteering (Stebbins, 2009, Wilson, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 41. What s Wrong With Gay Marriage By Katha Pollitt The essay written by Katha Pollitt, titled, What s wrong with gay marriage is an intriguing one. At first, the author, explains the notion that marriage and procreation do not necessarily go hand in hand. And later, she carefully interprets the true meaning of marriage; by stating that there is a separation of church and state. Most importantly, the author speaks to her audience in a clear and logical manner; without adding personal biases. Although the essay may seem to have deterministic view on social behavior. Nonetheless, I believe that does not disqualify the series of argument which she makes. Pollit expounds on the true meaning of marriage; by looking at the history of marriage. It is about two people loving each other for how they naturally know how to. This makes the reader come to the understanding that gay marriage is not an attention seeking behavior; but instead a sincere desire for another. Pollit concludes by saying the only objection to gay marriage is based on religious prejudice. Which means that there is no logical reasoning behind people disapproval of gay marriage. Rather, it is merely something which someone else s god dislikes. At the end marriage is not defined by religion; but instead interpreted by the government. Even if the holy book tells you to wed all the people in apartment 3G your still not allowed to do so. Regarding the controversial issue of same sex marriage. It seems that Pollit is trying to justify same sex marriage by comparing it to a legal substandard marriage (A man can marry a woman no matter how ill acquainted). And in the essay of gay Marriage societal suicide by Charles Colson, he takes the same approach by disregarding all the issues of traditional marriage. Both of these essays are guilty of distorting the readers perception of what is a good marriage by vastly exaggerating the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 47. Similarities Between Captain America And Beowulf When someone thinks of a superhero, they think of someone that is strong and immortal. Someone that can t be defeated yet, they go into battle with as much bravery as someone that goes into battle knowing they CAN be defeated. Every superhero has traits that make them great, but they also differ in many things as well. Although Captain America and Beowulf are similar in their weaknesses, strengths, and bravery, they also differ in their motivations, character traits, and heroics, making Captain America the better hero. All superheroes have weaknesses. Whether it s physically or mentally, they all have weaknesses that they struggle with that try to prevent them from being the best that they can be. Captain America and Beowulf share a similar weakness of the ability to get mortally wounded, due to the fact that they are both regular human beings. The advantage of Captain America though is that, due to the soldier serum, Captain America s age is slowed down (Frost). This is so important because this was a major factor in why Beowulf died. Because Beowulf was growing old, he wasn t as strong as he used to be. Therefore he wasn t strong enough to fight the dragon (Beowulf 800 805). Unlike Beowulf, Captain America s slow aging advantage will allow him to have strength and abilities that will allow him to fight for a long time. Just as superheroes have weaknesses, they all have strengths too. Although it is said that Beowulf is, ...greater and stronger than anyone in this world, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The issue of this is that the inmates are not in the right state of mind to survive in a jail and therefore look for ways to get out of it by killing themselves or others. When things like fights happen it makes jail unsafe for both inmates and guards. This to me is important because if jails are full of people with mental illnesses we are not helping them get better, we are letting them basically kill themselves and not care for their well being. It is easy to see that the problem is the lack of unberstany of mental illness because we live in a society that does not help other when they do something wrong; we believe that they deserve what they get, and that shouldn t be the case. What I mean is that when a person does something wrong and kill others or try to hurt other we see that person as an bertrand to society and want nothing to do with them. What we do not take into consideration is that that person can be mentally ill and have no control over what they have done.
