Theme Of Madame Bovary
In Madame Bovary, Flaubert manipulates the settings in order to illustrate the progression of Emma s
deteriorating state of mind. Each location within Emma s world holds a distinct reality and expectation
she must live according to, due to the strong influence it has on her state of mind. Within each city
Emma undergoes specific types of emotions and attachments that essentially become the drive to her
great depression. Tostes, Yonville, Rouen, and Paris bind together for a single purpose in order to
display the overall theme of dissatisfaction and repression, which ultimately become the reason for
Emma s ironic death.
The city of Tostes commences the start of Emma s journey by serving as an actual representation of

THe ball serves as a reflection upon her perfectionism and idealism, cultivated in a separate, outside
world she s left only to imagine. It mirrors her extreme naivete when she observes each and every
detail of the ball such as, the clear complexion that is heightened by the pallor of porcelain, the
shimmer of satin, and the veneer of old furniture (35). Emma s distinctive vivid imagination results in
an interference within reality when Charles discovers the cigar case with a green silk border (37) on
their way home from the ball at La Vaubyessard. For Emma, the case comes to symbolize all the
allure, sentimental relationship of the ball itself, and the universe of highborn simplicity and
extravagance it represents. Despite the fact that, she sees the physical, subtle elements of the ideal
setting of the ball, she doesn t consider the entanglements of what this sort of way of life may bring
desire, triviality, or depression. The unfulfilled desires experienced from the sumptuous ball result in
Emma s frustration increasing as she comes to notice that her longing for an upscale lifestyle soon
become diminished by the deterioration of her state of

Beowulf Embodies Heroic Ideals Essay
In Beowulf the classic epic, Beowulf, the hero of the epic, and other major characters reflect heroic
ideals and beliefs of courage, generosity, unquestioning loyalty and devotion. Courage is most evident
throughout Beowulf Beowulf does not back down from any challenge that stands in his way whether it
be Grendel, Grendel s mother, or the dragon. His bravery is most evident in his preparation for his
fight with Grendel, Beowulf, took off his shirt of armour, the helmet from his head, handed his
embellished sword, best of irons to an attendant,... He chose to bravely fight his foe, man to beast
without weaponery for he knew it would be cowardly to defeat Grendel with a sword and armor when
Grendel himself had none. Even in his ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Beowulf s men show unquestioning loyalty as they submit their lives to their lord. The night of
Beowulf s fight with Grendel, the men are told by Beowulf to sleep (in the mead hall) and they
bravely do, showing immense trust and devotion as they are aware of that they could very well
increase their chance of dying when Grendel attacks if they follow as Beowulf instructs (to sleep as
opposed to standing guard through the night). Beowulf remains loyal to King Hrothgar and as he
promised to purge the mead hall of its murderous foes, he fulfills his pledge by killing not only
Grendel, but also Grendel s mother. Beowulf in turn is also loyal to his men as he states to King
Hrothgar, ...if I at your need I should go from life, you would always be in a father s place for me
when I am gone: be guardian of my young retainers, my companions, if battle should take me. Nor
does Beowulf forget his king as he also requests that Hrothgar send the rewarded treasures and gifts to
Hygelac if Grendel s mother defeats him. Wiglaf, portrayed as the only worthy one of Beowulf s
company that joined him at his battle with the dragon, also showed loyalty in his aiding his Beowulf in
fighting the dragon (as others cowardly shy away from the fight) and followed Beowulf s instructions
for carrying out his funeral and other processions after Beowulf s death, and in his speech to the

ISO 9001 is a universal quality management standard that sets requirements for quality management
systems and can be adopted by organizations in any industry and of any size. It helps the organization
which use it achieve customer satisfaction through efficient processes [ISO, 2015]. ISO 9001: 2015 is

Figure 2.0 Flowchart for implementing ISO 9001: 2015
2.1 Flowchart analysis:
Implementing ISO 9001 QMS in an organization begins with the decision to establish the QMS
having appraised the organization. The next step is to get the management involved and committed to
the cause after which an implementation team is setup to manage the process. Most often after this
stage, the management backs off leaving the responsibilities to the implementation team alone causing
challenges in the implementation.
The implementation team then checks the context of the organization against the customer
requirements and defines the organization s quality management standard (QMS) from there. An
awareness campaign is done to inform everyone in the organization about the QMS implementation
and then staff are trained to meet the requirements. Roles are assigned and an operations plan is then
created. At this stage, the process plan is documented and then process is carried on.
An internal audit takes place to check the conformance of the process and products to standards. The
results of the audit are put up for management review and then corrections are made where needed.
External audits also take place and then customer feedback is harvested and put in place for

Edward Taylor Research Paper
The Puritans were a group of people that emigrated from England and settled in North America. They
were a highly religious group of people with a variety of literary works. The Puritans had no single
voice that represented them, but instead a variety of voices that represent their group. The Puritans and
their literary works were the prominent between 1620 to 1783. The purpose of Puritan literature was
to apprise both his neighbor and his fellow Englishman across the sea of recent events taking place in
the colonies (Warner, 588). Edward Taylor was an incredibly prominent Poet during this time period,
writing many different poems and sermons. He was an orthodox, reactionary, New England Puritan
Minister, ably caring for his congregation and vigorously defending the American Federal Theology.

Many prominent poets from the Puritan era would use biblical themes and biblical language.
Examples of poets who used biblical language were Anne Bradstreet and Roger Williams who would
merge the language of the Bible, the Old World, and the New World (Johnston, 126). Edward Taylor
followed suit with this idea and often The voice of Edward Taylor...is a sensuous voice (Johnston,
126) . This is well demonstrated in his poem I am the Living Bread. Taylor described God and the
heavens as luxurious in the lines , In this sad state, Gods Tender Bowells run Out streams of Grace:
and he to end all strife The purest Wheate in Heaven (Taylor, 19 21). In these lines Taylor uses vivid
imagery to describe the biblical figure of God. The words purest , tender , and Grace have highly
extravagant connotations that create a mood of luxury. This characterizes God as a magnificent and
divine being. Taylor is focusing on the theme of god and is describing him in a sensuous

is fascinating to me. I, just like many other staff members, am extremely passionate about making the
community a better place for everyone. I have been playing this game for 7 years and this is my 6th
year being involved in the hcf community. I have seen much bias, discrimination, and overall hate
towards people just because they are not known enough. But in my eyes, everyone within the hcf
community is an equal, and should be treated like one. This means giving second chances for
improvement or change if requested, banning a famous player even though I may get hate, or even just
moving people in teamspeak evenly, to be sure no one gets upset. I strive to provide the best playing
experience possible for any player regardless of his or hers ranking within the community. If our
players are happy, than I am happy. I will make sure that each player who joins the network will be
met with kind words and best regards. I plan to help as many people possible through simple actions

Overview of Normocytic Anemia
Normocytic This is the term that describes a red blood cell that is of normal size. They usually also
have hemoglobin content (medical dictionary.thefreedictionary.com/Normocytic) Normochromic
anemia, Also known as normocytic anemia. This is the most frequent type of anemia most often
happening to males over 85 years old. It is a common problem that occurs to men and women over 85
years old. Symptoms include and are caused by: a reduced production of normal sized red blood cells
even though presence of hemoglobin in the red blood cells is within the standard range; an increased
production of HbS as is seen in sickle cell diseases; greater destruction and loss of red blood cells; an
increase in plasma volume that is not compensated by anything else; a B2 (riboflavin) deficiency; and
a B6 (pyridoxine) deficiency. (Brill Baumgardner 2000). Marked leukocytosis A significant increase
in the white blood cell count (the leukocyte count) that is above the normal range in the blood.
Inflammatory, it is often the result of infections and therefore exists in certain parasitic infections. It
can also occur after strenuous exercise, and following convulsions such as epilepsy, emotional stress,
pregnancy and labor, anesthesia, and epinephrine administration. Leukocytosis falls into five
categories: 1.Neutrophilia (the most common form; in which neutrophils are elevated)
2.Lymphocytosis (which lymphocyte count is elevated) 3.Monocytosis (leukocytosis in which

The Daniel Gill, the chairman and CEO faces the possibility of changing the organizational structure
of Europe, Asia/Pacific, and the Western Hemisphere. The current organization includes an
International Division which oversees production and marketing for countries outside the United
States. The goal of changing the organizational structure of these three regions is to increase sales
growth internationally and decentralize responsibility away from headquarters to field operations.

The two divisions were often on different pages and experienced communication challenges. This
created several pricing difficulties making it even harder to globally market the products. To further
the problem, the ID felt as though their R D received less than sufficient manufacturing resources,
which limited the ability to forecast the global market. Difficulties in communication slowed R D,
decision making, and required a major change in the organizational structure. Gill decided to increase
the capabilities of the ID and give specific regions more power in the decision making process.
Regionalization: New structures were formed in order to approach the ID problems. The
organizational reconstruction focused on speed of results, process to be driven by B L executives, and
input from as many B L employees as possible. A significant amount of time and money was
dedicated to creating a task force that was goal was to evaluate organizational structure. They
concluded that it was necessary for a fine tuning of the current organization structure, a regional
structure, a product region matrix, and a global product structure. Eventually the idea regionalization
was adopted by the Advisory Committee. The ID was to be dissolved and replaced by headquarters in
Europe, Middle East and Africa, Asia Pacific, and the Western Hemisphere. Jobs in the ID were
reallocated to different divisions and new products were developed according to align with the region
s needs.

With reference to your own process, discuss and analyse how the use of mask affected your approach
to creating character. Compare how it differs from working without mask, assessing benefits and any
perceived drawbacks. Discuss its potential effect, if any, on your work in non mask theatre.
In this essay I will argue that the use of mask is vital in creating a believable and consistent character
for performance. The techniques used in masks not only help to define a character but also help an
actor improve their improvisation techniques.
Jacques Lecoq wanted to explore the hidden gestures, emotions and underlying states of a character,
which we express through mimages [109: 2002, Bloomsbury] I incorporated both the mimages and his

Draco would then scoff before dropping it elsewhere.
When making my mask, I wanted to create one that oozed authority with a hint of smarminess. I was
ultimately surprised by the outcome, my end product was a trickster. The raised eyebrow however led
to a smirk which ultimately led to the name Draco; a genus of reptiles, very apt for my character.
However, the eviller Draco became the more drastic a counter mask had to be. As our piece was
dedicated to stealing a picture of Zefron Zac Efron , when ripped, Draco had to flip suddenly.
I drew upon the counter mask exercises we had developed in rehearsals. Changing everything that
made Draco who he was. His ever present sneer faded into a frown and a wail.
To achieve Draco s mannerism and voice I charged my mask. Copying the arched eyebrow on the
mask I found a nasally voice with an added scoff at the end. I then began to work on my inner
dramatic monologue.
I wanted to keep in mind that Draco thought himself above everyone else hence a simple inner
monologue; I am surrounded by idiots...peasants, they should be quivering in my mere presence.
Getting the temperament of Draco however was difficult. Despite embodying the arlecchino mask I
wanted Draco to keep an air of authority, the temperament I chose for Draco was Choleric This way
follow me, follow me this way now! .
All the exercises and techniques I used to develop Draco greatly helped me in perfecting his character,
from Lecoq s 7 states to chekov s centres.

Essay on Walt Whitman
Walt Whitman
In parting with traditional poetic formalities, Walt Whitman alleviated a burden that impeded his
ability to achieve full poetic expression. To Whitman, the strict boundaries that formal meter,
structure, and rhyme imposed set limits on his stylistic freedom. This is not to say that these limits
prevented Whitman from conveying his themes. Rather, they presented a contradiction to which
Whitman refused to conform. In Whitman s eyes, to meet these formal guidelines one would also have
to sacrifice the ability to express qualities and passion of living men. Thus, Whitman contested
traditional poetic protocol because it added a layer of superficiality that concerned itself with creating
perfect rhythmical, metrical, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This meant that stanzas consisted of a predetermined amount of lines or that the poem had a
predetermined amount of stanzas. Augmenting this formal structure were predetermined rhyme
schemes (such as abab cdcd efef gg in Shakespearean sonnets). Based on the above, we can describe
traditional poetic etiquette as adhering to the suggested formal patterns predetermined by the tradition
of British poetry. Just in reaching the above conclusion, a problem arises that all poets, not just
Whitman, face when trying to conform to this style. This problem is that all of these rules are
cumbersome. It is difficult for a poet to convey the theme of a poem when he or she is concerned with
whether or not each word fits into a designated formal pattern. Yet, some would argue that this is what
makes poetry such an elegant art form. Surely, Whitman recognized the genius found in Shakespeare s
sonnets and other constitutive examples of traditional British poetry. However, whether or not
Whitman recognized the genius of great traditional British poets, is inconsequential. What did matter
was whether or not Whitman felt that this style was appropriate for him. The answer is no. Whitman
found problems not simply with the fact that clinging to the traditional style might be burdensome
(surely this would not have been an insurmountable task for Whitman), but his main issue with
traditional style concerned the ornamental effect of formal regularity:

American Youth in the 1960s
America has in a short time been established as a nation that symbolizes acceptance and change. It has
progressed into a country of equality that finds its foundation in its personal freedoms and the
progressive movement of technology, politics, economics, social views, ethics and so forth since the
American Revolution. It has been changing rapidly since the influx of immigrants that came here
before the Revolution. The 1950s were a happy time. I Love Lucy and Leave It To Beaver were on
television. The Everly Brothers, Jerry Lee Lewis, Chuck Berry and Elvis Presley were popular acts in
music. The youth movement of the 1960s was necessary in order for America to progress in social,
political, economic, and technological ways that could further America from the 1950s into a new era
of personal identity and freedom of expression. It was a time of fathers going to work, mothers staying
home and tending to the housework, and kids hanging out in the suburban neighborhoods. The 1950s
were the end of World War II which brought back many young serviceman to the states to start
families and get jobs. This inflow of young and eager men put a lot of money into industry and goods
not available during the war. This created a boom in the economy. Suburbs started to pop up
everywhere because all these young men and their families needed housing. Levitt Co. was the reason

Questions On Conflict Management On The Workplace
Conflict Management: How to resolve conflict in the workplace?

Introduction
Conflict happens in any working relationship and it should not be avoided or ignored. Diversity is the
cause of conflict in the workplace because in almost every organization there is different cultures and
nationalities, and employees with different experiences, values, beliefs, and opinions. When conflict

In my second research article by Heathfield (2016), she provides actions that should be avoided when

Abolishing The Penny Essay
The penny, also known simply as the one cent coin, was first made about 230 years ago in 1787. The
first penny ever made was 100% copper and it was heavier and larger than the usual penny today. The
design itself was suggested by the famous Benjamin Franklin ( A Brief History of the U.S. Cent ).
Lately, people have talked about the idea of abolishing the penny, but others disagree. The penny
should not be abolished. Granted, pennies waste time. MoneyCrasher.com had this to say: Often, when
we pay with cash at a store, the total amount doesn t end in a multiple of $0.05... [so] we have to either

To begin, nickels cost more than pennies. An article on The Spruce says this: [The] Mint can make 5
pennies and still lose less money than making 1 nickel (Headley). This quoted information is basically
saying that it would cost less for five pennies to be made compared to just one nickel. The cost
difference is actually about 1.4 cents, which doesn t seem like much, but it may become a larger
problem when the money amount adds up in the end. Furthermore, if the penny were abolished and
the nation would be stuck using nickels, then the Mint would lose even more money. A popular
argument for the abolishment of the penny is that it wastes the money for the Mint. This is partly true,
but if the pennies were entirely eliminated, more nickels would be in demand, which would cost the
Mint more. Twenty nickels, which equals a dollar, costs about $1.54 to make, compared to a dollar
amount of pennies, which costs $1.26 to make. With all the pennies abolished, the number of nickels
made would have to double, which would subtract more money from the Mint, leaving them with
even money savings less than before

Important Data Compression Techniques For Reducing The...
Abstract: one of the important data compression techniques for eliminating the duplicate copies of
repeating data is the data deduplication, and has been widely used in cloud storage to reduce the
amount of storage space and save bandwidth. This method is useful when there are number of copies
that having the duplication in private cloud, which will reduce the amount of repeated files after
applying this technique we will be obtaining the files with no duplication .To protect the
confidentiality of sensitive data while supporting deduplication, the convergent encryption technique
has been proposed to encrypt the data before outsourcing. To better protect data security, this paper
makes the first attempt to formally address the problem of authorized data deduplication. Different
from the traditional deduplication systems, the differential privileges of users are further considered in
duplicate check besides the data itself. We also present several new deduplication constructions
supporting authorized duplicate check in private cloud architecture. As we are using the private cloud
architecture which makes our processing removal of the duplicate files easily. more than that security
that is been provided in this is mostly high . Security analysis demonstrates that our scheme is secure
in terms of the definitions specified in the proposed security model. As a proof of concept, we

I Know why the Caged Bird Sings Censorship
Some books in the society should be censored while some should not be. Most books are worth
reading however, most ones are prohibited in society and should not be read. Maya Angelou, I Know
why the Caged Bird Sings is an autobiographical novel and it has been banned within the last three
decades. In the book, Maya Angelou was going through a rough time since she was raped and bullied.
Living as Maya is rough, she keeps going back and forth and doesn t know where to settle down to
live her life peacefully. Maya Angelou finally settled down at the age of 13 and was contented to live

Examples Of Satire In The Simpsons
The Simpsons: Equal Opportunity Satire While there are many different perspectives on whether the
popular animated show The Simpsons depicts Christianity in a favorable, unfavorable or apathetic
light, my personal opinion is that the signature satirical style of the show is actually a strategy to
please the widest audience, whether religious or not presenting equal opportunity satire. Their
unapologetic and unabashed way of making fun of anything and everything is what has allowed the
show to continue for so many seasons and also allow the viewer to draw their own conclusions. The
diverse characters represented in the series advocate a wide range of different perspectives, ranging
from the atheistic to the theistic. In the 1992 episode, Homer the Heretic, where the plotline can be ...

On one hand, Christians would see the fact that the Simpson home burned and that Homer was saved
by Flanders as divine retribution and a second chance by God for Homer s refusal to attend weekly

simply another instance of people using easily explained natural phenomena to reinforce their biases
and confirmation bias when Homer reinforces his belief in God by being saved by Flanders
(Confirmation Bias). Nevertheless, the show accommodates many different cultures and beliefs.
Pinksy says individually, family members represent a spectrum of belief, from Homer s fear based neo

English Language Learners Paper

This paper will describe my learning experiences working with English Language Learners (ELL)
who were in the first grade; the students age ranges were from 6 to 8 years old. The students attended
an elementary school that provided a curriculum specifically to fit their learning needs; the school
develops lessons from an English only model. Restrepo Gray (2007) suggested that English only
models allow ELL students to learn lessons only in English with teacher s aids or paraprofessionals
offering occasional support to them in their native language. During my learning experience, I will

teachers have aims in mind, they are able to write more detailed lesson plans with variations to the
lesson. I will also discuss with students the next learning experience, which will be Science. The
activity will include the life cycle of flying bats. I will initially use a flip chart to write down words the
students sang during their brain break. I will write down bat, dip, pad, and tub. Then, I will ask
students to look at my mouth as I sound out each word. After that, students will be asked to raise their
hands and come to the flip chart to point out the word once I call them. I will make anecdotal notes of
students who participated or not; students who will not participate I will make observation if the
students failed to participate because of lack of understanding or disengaged. Further, I will prompt
and reassure to make model sounds to pronounce the words. I will orally model sounds of the words
with deep expression on the beginning and ending sounds. Teachers who work with ELL students
must receive in depth training in attempt to understand the significance of modeling tasks for students

Barbara Ehrenreich Serving In Florida Rhetorical Analysis
Title
Introduction Paragraph
In Barbara Ehrenreich s essay Serving in Florida, derived from Ehrenreich s book Nickel and Dimed:
On (Not) Getting By in America, the author conveys through a undercover experiences of working
low wage jobs in Florida, that minimum wage jobs are harsh working conditions and lead to
uncomfortable and a unpleasant way of living. Her essay also helps to reveal that the conditions that
minimum wage jobs create, is the thin line between bearly having somewhere to live and being
completely homeless. This will be proven by not only her experience, but also supported by
primary/secondary sources.

Meditation Session At The Vajradhara Buddhist Center
I am very excited about this field experience. It has been the one I have been looking forward to all
semester. I chose to attend an Introduction to Meditation session at the Vajradhara Buddhist Center. I
chose this for my Religious Service because I have always wondered what the teachings of Buddhism
are. The Vajradhara Center offers these introduction sessions every Wednesday at 7 p.m. I went to the
Week 1 session on November 4th, the first Wednesday of the month. I found out about this session just
by googling Buddhist centers Charlotte, NC . This center has many great reviews on various websites,
so I thought it was a great fit. About to have the experience of going to a Buddhist Center, I think I am
really expecting to enjoy this session, mostly because I have always been intrigued by the teachings
and morals of Buddha and how they can be achieved through meditation. I have grown up non
religious, which I think makes this experience more interesting because I have nothing to compare it
to. I expect this session to be sort of intimidating at first because it is a new experience. I also believe
that I will not be very comfortable, at first, while meditating. Through research, I hope to find out
ways to adjust and to fully understand why meditation is important in Buddhism. Most importantly, I
am excited to attend this session.

Descriptive Essay On Dance
Bryan is a free spirit type‒all smiles and full of life. Despite his teaching position, he was one of the
youngest of the guys there at 21 years old. Having danced for nearly 6 years and teaching for 3, he has
found his place in dance more than anywhere else. It s a really great outlet for self expression, and its
something you can do when you grow older, he laughed. I just love the stylization and personality you
can infuse into your dancing. Chairs lining the entryway were quickly filled with personal belongings.
Although it served as an informal changing area, the most well prepared students came already
dressed with the necessary dance items in their bags. The dark colored outfits were especially
important. Not only did the class looked unified, but it also gave each student an expressive and
distinguishable style. Despite the routine of bringing these items, sweat towels, yoga mats, and other
items were available for the students to borrow from if they forgot their own. One student, in
particular, Anna, seemed to struggle with the simple weekly ritual of remembering her belongings. As
the students unrolled their yoga mats on the dance floor, Anna ran off to the bathroom to change and
scoured the designated lockbox in search of a mat she liked. Although Anna did not comply with the
standard behavior of the subculture, Bryan did not expect all of the students to be equally familiar
with the pre class routine. Anna was obviously the most recent addition to the class,

Mentally Retarded Criminals Should Face the Death Penalty...
On June 26, 1989, the United States Supreme Court, in the case of Penry v. Lynaugh, upheld the
imposition of the death penaklty on a mentally retarded offender, John Penry (Chan 1211). The Court,
also, held that the Federal Constitution s eighth amendment s cruel and unusual punishment clause is
not violated by the execution of mentally retarded defendants (Cook 869). I strongly concur with the
United States Supreme Court s decision. I do not believe that mentally retarded defendants should be
categorically exempt from the death penalty because of their retardation. I hold this position because
IQ test results are sometimes unreliable, there are different degrees of understanding of right and
wrong among mentally retarded ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
High reliabilities are especially needed for tests used for individual assessment such as in court cases
(Sattler 26).
Each IQ test incorporates a standard error of measurement, which is the variation between the
obtained score and the true score. This difference is sometimes as much as fifteen points. Thus, the IQ
score obtrained by a defendant is only one of many possible scores that may be achieved with
different sample questions or the same questions at a different time (Rumley 1334). Should a mentally
retarded defendant with an IQ of 70 be exempt from the death penalty when his score could range
anywhere from 85 to 55? I vehemently believe that a blanket exemption from the death penalty
because of an unreliable IQ score is wrong. In addition, Grossman states that the IQ s of mentally
retarded persons do not remain constant. Studies have shown great fluctuation in IQ scores for such
reasons as fatigue or illness. Numerous studies indicate that motivational factors can affect IQ scores
(Grossman 26 27). Certainly a defendant facing the death penalty would be highly motivated to do
poorly on an IQ test knowing that a score of 70 or below could save him from the death penalty.
Although the reliability of IQ test results is questionable, many states including Georgia, Tennessee,
Kentucky, Maryland, and New Mexico have enacted legislation categorically prohibiting the
execution of defendants who have an IQ of 70 or below

Analysis Of The Kite Runner
The Kite Runner Essay No one is born evil, the environment in which one is raised influences what
kind of person they will be. The Kite Runner, a historical fiction novel written by Khaled Hoesseni,
follows a young Afghani boy named Amir. Amir makes some regrettable decisions in his youth and
the guilt haunts him throughout his life as he searches for a way to redeem himself. Amir also grew up
with his friend/servant named Hassan. Hassan is a Hazara boy that lived in the mud shack behind
Amir s house. Amir is a very selfish and cowardly character, but he was not born with these character
traits, some factors can be attributed to Amir s selfishness or cowardice. Baba, Amir s father, would
always treat Hassan with the same amount of love and respect as he would Amir, if not more. This
angered Amir as he wanted Baba all to himself. In addition, Amir is somewhat of a shy person that
likes to keep his thoughts and emotions bottled up inside, which is not positive for anyone. Finally, the
juristic difference in social classes in Afghanistan that separate Amir and Hassan also contribute to
Amir s cowardice. Amir s upbringing and the society he lived in directly attribute to Amir s cowardice.
Baba treated Hassan as if he were his own child and this proves to be harmful to Amir. During the
winters in Kabul kite running was a staple activity and a family tradition for most. The tradition is no
different with Amir, every year he would fly kites with Hassan and Baba. Amir notes that,

Communication Breakdown:
The Role of Interagency Communication in the Academic Achievement of Foster Youth
Farrah Mitchell
Ashford University
Chapter 1: Background Context Recent research has made clear that children in foster care represent
one of the most vulnerable populations in public education. Though there have been few national
studies studying the overall achievement of foster youth, various state and local investigations
invariably reveal a picture of personal struggle, over or under identified disabilities, developmental
delays, absenteeism, and chronic underperformance relative to peers who are not in foster care. In

Because of this mix of confusion, lack of effective cross agency communication, and incentives
brought about by a lack of viable alternate educational resources other than special education, studies
have found both underidentification and overidentification problems with foster youth and special
education services. Moreover, even those who are appropriately diagnosed often receive poorly
written individualized education plans (IEPs) that are often dropped or ignored when the student
moves to a different district (Vacca, 2008). One study found that in Oregon, although 39 percent of
foster youth had received IEPs, only 16 percent actually received services (White, Carrington, amp;
Freeman, as cited in Ayasse, 1995). Clearly, special education is a point of particular importance and
contention for students in foster care. Studies have quantified the negative impact on foster youth
through other means beyond academic performance and placement. Due to traumatic past experiences
with family, prenatal exposure to drugs and alcohol, neglect, abuse, or a combination of these and
other factors, foster youth display a high incidence of emotional or behavioral problems. Many foster
youth have difficulty developing fulfilling relationships, resulting in frustration. In one study that

The Importance Of Community Ligagement And Outreach...
Community engagement and outreach librarians are a relatively new and growing speciality in public
librarianship. The idea of outreach is not a new concept for libraries. The Offices for Literacy and
Outreach Services was established in the 1970s, formerly the Office for Literacy Services to the
Disadvantaged (McCook, 2011). While community engagement and outreach can have different
connotations, for the purposes of this paper, they are going to be used interchangeably, as the duties
and responsibilities for each type of librarian does not vary much in job postings. The ALA describes
outreach librarians as providers of equitable delivery of library services to all people through the
development of programs, policies, practices, and behaviors which make the library available to all
people (ALA, n.d. c). Many libraries are just hiring their first community engagement and outreach
librarians, such as The Verona Public Library (Newton, 2017). Community engagement and outreach
librarians seek ways in which to develop deep connections with the community organizations and
residents while being the face of the library. This staffing trend moves libraries away from their desks
and out into the community to reach community members where they are (Stevenson Domsy, 2016).
Scope and Tasks A big question in outreach is should the goal be focused on bringing people into the
library or bringing library services out into the community (M. Gehrke, personal communication,

Essay on The Social Dimension of Sending Remittances
Introduction
The social impact of remittances is a very important area of research and discussion within academia
and in the wider world. What is the effect of remittances on the senders, the receivers and the wider
communities in which both sides live?
This essay will attempt to address the issue of the social dimension of remittances by analysing the
debate on this issues through a number of examples of both the sender experience and the receiver
experience. In this way we are able to get a better picture of the power of remittances from a social
context and what it means to both sides.

I am a second generation British Yemeni born in Liverpool. As a child my parents moved our family
to Yemen to live. So from the age of 5 years old to the age of 9 years old I moved from inner city
Liverpool to a small village in Yemen. I didn t speak any Arabic at all when I arrived and by the time I
left at the age 9 I didn t speak any English at all.
I remember my time in Yemen very fondly, it was an extraordinary time of adventure and discovery
without television or radio. Due to my time in Yemen I developed a very strong connection to the
country, even though following my return to the UK, I didn t visit Yemen again for 17 years until I
went back to get married in 1998.
This bond I developed remains to this day, this has meant regular trips to visit family and friends
especially for my Yemeni born wife. As a mugtareb Arabic for migrant, I am expected from time to
time to remit money. Most of the time this money goes to my parents who spend 6 months of the year
in Yemen and 6 months in the UK. However I am also

Peter Olson s Ceramic Art
It is not unusual for ceramicists to employ photography as a means of documenting their works, yet
Philadelphia based artist Peter Olson s method of incorporating these two media on his exquisite clay
creations is arguably previously unseen. In each of his work, the artist cleverly unfolds a pleasant
surprise. As the audience closely examines Olson s signature kaleidoscopic surface decoration which
bears a resemblance to motifs found on Islamic artifacts and Greek vessels, images of modern streets
and people appear where floral design and mythological beings are expected to be. Photo Ceramica is
a refreshing meld of photography and ceramic art; the works showcased in the show represent nothing
less than the best of both worlds. More than 40 pieces, including bowls, marionettes, tiles, and large
urns takes over the 3,200 square feet gallery space at The American Museum of Ceramic Art
(AMOCA). Assisting them is a long wall of photos originally taken by Olsen to be used as design
elements. The exhibit plan is resolved so that visitors have a chance to visually experience the
production of the artist s works from the very beginning. Olson s process begins with printing and
cutting out individual subjects from his ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

induce powerful narratives and emotions. For instance, a large urn titled New York City #31 features a
number of iconic sceneries of the cosmopolitan New York City. Anyone familiar with the city could
easily recognize different corners of Time Square, Grand Central station, and the NYC skyline view
from Brooklyn as they explore the elaborate decorative bands. The negative space between the prints
and their photographic characteristics visually alter the shape of the vessels and bowls, giving them

Why Is Kat Admirable
Kat is an admirable character because she doesn t care what others think, she follows her own path
and above all isn t afraid to speak out when something needs to be said. The first reason why Kat is
admirable is because she doesn t care what others think or say about her. For example in the opening
scene when Kat is in her car and she stops next to a car full of popular girls they stare at her because
she is listening to rock music but Kat doesn t care what they think she still keeps blasting her rock
music. This teaches to do/listen to what makes you happy or what you like no matter what even if
people are saying things or staring. Another reason why Kat is admirable is that she follows her own
path. For example, throughout the entire

Harriet Martineau s Travel
Travel is different for everyone. There are no two people who experience the exact same thing when
they leave the comforts of their homes. For some people during Victorian times to the mid 1900 s
travelling was a way of life. Explorers such as Captain James Cook and Percy Fawcett cleared the way
for many young explorers. Women such as Harriet Martineau set an example for women everywhere;
that one does not have to get married and settle down, but can instead discover the mysteries of the
world. The travellers in discussion all came from a Western perspective. When approaching the
natives, however, each person, man or woman, had a varying reaction. Western explorers felt superior
to the Native people of the lands, but each person reflected ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

From a religious perspective, the people of the Hawaiian islands were deplorable. Marshall Sahlins
calls Hawaiian culture Aphrodisian, and cites as evidence a nineteenth century missionary who
complained that islanders practiced twenty forms of intercourse and had as many words for coitus
(Horwitz 392). In the West, the topic of sex is extremely taboo. Public displays of affection or lustful
words are considered sinful. When Captain James Cook sailed to this area, many of his men
participated in debauchery with the exotic women. In this situation, the men had absolutely no respect
for the Islander dwellers. The culture was to their liking, therefore they borrowed it for a little while. If
there was any real respect for these people, the Western men would have tried to to accept more pieces
of it, instead of the parts that gave them pleasure. In Blue Latitudes, when the Natives took the
belongings of the crew, Cook planned to do what he had done many times before in the Pacific: seize
a chief and hold him until stolen goods were returned (Horwitz 405). Instead of trying to understand
why the men would act like this, Cook acted upon his most primal instincts to get the possessions
back. The Western travellers in many situations simply took advantage of the people they happened
upon. One prime example of this comes from Heart Of Darkness. When

Persuasive Essay On Video Games
Growing up as a gamer, I have experienced many new things in the video game industry. I ve been
playing video games since the Sega genisis that I started playing when I was three years old. I ve been
gaming almost my whole life, I have watched new console been introduced, seen video games go
from 1080p to now an amazing 4K which makes the graphics look amazing. Modern video games
even have virtual reality that you as a consumer can now play in your own living room. But, even
though we have amazing things in video games the modern gamer is being introducing to a new
problem. The problem I am addressing of coarse is micro transactions in video games. Modern game
companies are charging you $60.00 dollars for a video game. Once you purchase this said video game
you have to grind countless hours in order to obtain specific items that will enhance your abilities in
this virtue world, or you can turn your real life currency into this video game currency in order to
potentially get these items early on. This concept is called pay to win. The definition of pay to win as
stated in wikipedia is In some multiplayer video games, players who are willing to pay for special
items or downloadable content may be able to gain a significant advantage over those playing for free.
Though I believe companies should be allowed to do this in free video game, I think it is wrong to
charge someone $60.00 and afterwords try to make them buy guns in order to enhance their gameplay.

Janie s Motif
Journal 3
In the novel, Their Eyes Were Watching God, by Zora Neale Hurston, Janie creates an idea of real love
during her sexual awakening. Her idea of real love centers around two people working together,
loving each other, and being happy in marriage. This idea drives Janie to search for this love. In the
process of her search, Janie encounters relationships that are abusive and oppressive. These
relationships allow her to understand what real love is in contrast from mislove. Moreover, Janie
becomes more independent in the midst of a male dominated society and learns to embrace her
sexuality despite society s idea of how women should behave. Hurston constructs Janie s character arc
through the use of motifs. Hurston uses the motif of bees, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
During her relationship with Logan Killicks, Janie never mentions bees or trees during her interactions
with Logan. In fact, the only time she refers to bees or trees is when she complains about the union.
The absence of the motif during their relationship emphasizes that Janie did not benefit from her
marriage with Logan. This is the first occurence of mislove in Janie s life. The second occurence of
mislove appears during Janie s relationship with Joe. Joe did not represent the sun up and pollen and
blooming trees, (29) foreshadowing that Janie would not find her true love in this relationship. Indeed,
she enters an oppressive marriage with Joe. Joe order[es] Janie to tie up her hair (55) and cover it with
a rag because her hair attracts men and he want[s] her submission (71). He suppresses her sexuality
and strips her of her independence. Consequently, [s]he had no more blossomy openings dusting
pollen over her man. (72). Janie finally realizes that her marriage with Joe is not real love, rather, it is
mislove. Real love means that both partners benefit, but [s]he got nothing from Jody except what
money could buy (77). This experience with Jody causes Janie to understand the difference between
real love and mislove. She also understands that her sexuality and autonomy is significant to her.
When Jody dies, Janie embraces her independence and sexuality, letting her hair in one thick braid [to
swing] well below her waist. (89). Her experiences with mislove does not destroy her. Instead, it
allows her to become more independent and

The True Nature Of The Gladiators
Introduction
Gladiators have long been regarded as entertainers performing spectacles of great violence for an avid
audience. Many scholars debate whether the gladiators could be considered athletes due to the stark
differences between the Greek athletes of the Olympics and the Roman gladiators of the arena. There
are many myths surrounding the gladiators. Most people think that the gladiators were savage and
would fight each other to the death every time they entered the arena. Many people are also unaware
of the training that each gladiator would undergo. The virtue of the gladiators is often brought into
question because they are seen as vicious and thoughtless. In this paper, the true nature of the
gladiators will be investigated by analysing the cultural context surrounding the definition of an
athlete throughout history.
Reference 1: Reid, H. L. (2006). Was the Roman gladiator an athlete? Journal of the Philosophy of
Sport, 33(1), 37 49.
The article Was the Roman Gladiator an Athlete by Heather Reid discussed the debate many historians
have regarding the nature of the events and spectacles in which Roman gladiators typically engaged.
Heather Reid has published many articles in ancient philosophy, especially as it relates to sport and
athleticism. She is a professor of philosophy at Morningside College in Iowa.
Many historians do not consider Roman gladiators to be ancient athletes. Historians classified
gladiators more as entertainers than athletes due to the fact

In Cold Blood Perry Quotes
In the book In Cold Blood by Truman Capote, one of the two killers, Perry Smith, is presented to be
an emotional villain whose actions towards others reflects the way society has treated him. The
traumatic and broken childhood that Perry endured did not only leave him untrusting of others but was
a gateway to the dramatic and unpleasant life that Perry lived. Not only shown through his criminal
actions, but every aspect of Perry s life is negatively marked by his experiences, illustrating the
trainwreck that his life turned out to be.
Perry s complicated feelings towards society is shown through his treatment of the Clutters during the
home invasion. Perry s erratic treatment of the family, showing both kindness and ruthless violence,
puzzles the detectives on the case. This inconsistent behavior is a reflection of both the abuse he
suffered throughout his life as ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
When confronted by Dick he made his opinion known and was even willing to get in a fight if the
argument got out of hand. While Dick and Perry are on the run, they are very cautious about who to

stranded saying, Frankly, I don t give a damn. You want to put them out? Then by all means.... Go
ahead. Put them out. But I ll be getting out, too (Capote 209). When confronted by Dick he not only
argues on their behalf but threatens to leave if he does not have his way. After heartlessly killing four
people, Perry is willing to risk his only partnership for these strangers. Once again, Perry s unexpected
compassion juxtaposes the harsh and cruel life that he lives. This is again demonstrated when Perry
intervenes when Dick begins to make advances on Nancy. Even in the wake of the horror that
unfolded in the Clutter household, it was important to Perry to leave the family with their

The Impact Of Imperialism
Anciently, imperialism has developed with the rise of human s civilisation. Imperialism defined as per
Cambridge dictionary as a system or a situation where one country with superior power used force or
influence to rule and exploit another country (Cambridge dictionary, 2017). In the contemporary
colonial era, many European intellectuals and thinkers have justified imperialism such as Rudyard
Kipling with his famous poem The White Man s Burden (Kiplingsociety.co,uk, 2017). The poem
reflected the agreement of many Europeans of their superiority, which attached with a duty to spread
Western ideas and knowledge toward non Western people. They thought they were primitive
barbarians as Kipling expressed them Half devil and half child and they need guidance to change their
way of life. Extraordinarily, the British has exceeded its European counterparts in colonial superiority
and extended its empire, the largest in the world, over fifth of the land in the earth and they gained that
status because of their naval superiority and manoeuvres. By 1783, Britain had established an empire
which comprised colonies in Canada, America and the West Indies (BBC.co.uk, 2017). The British
East India Company had built up a small empire of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Michael Jordan Persuasion
LeBron James and Michael Jordan: Chasing the Greatest of All Time Since the beginning of the NBA
there have always been transcendent stars whose ability, charisma, and championship drive defined
their personas. Michael Jordan is widely considered to be the greatest basketball player of all time,
with the exception of perhaps Kareem Abdul Jabbar who played in a completely different era.
However, before Jordan there was Julius Erving (Dr. J). When Jordan came into the league, he was
labeled the next Dr. J, who was considered to be a magician on the court. Jordan was a clone of Dr. J
in the late 1980s even to the point where he held a plethora of awards but experienced little in the way
of success. When Jordan finally won a championship his career, ... Show more content on

LeBron thus far has averaged 27.2 points per game compared to Jordan s 30.1. Jordan won the scoring
title nine more times than LeBron but only averaged three more points per game. A major discrepancy
between the two lies within the comparison of rebounds per game and assists per game. LeBron
averages 7.2 rebounds and 6.9 assists, making him a triple double threat every night. Meanwhile,
Jordan averaged only 6.2 rebounds and 5.3 assists, which, while fantastic for a guard in any era, is not
quite the same as LeBron s total impact on the ballgame. In the end, LeBron s legacy will ultimately
be defined by the number of championships he wins compared to Jordan. He may never get to six but
not many ever will. LeBron s legacy should be defined by his domination over his peers in
conjunction with his ability to morph the game generally to his all around abilities even though he has
never been the pure scorer Jordan

Acid Precipitation Essay example
Sitting in your room late at night, you listen to the gentle pittter patter of the rain on your window.
Ahh, so soothing and relaxing. Have you ever really wondered what the rain is really made of? Is that
just water or is it acid slowly streaming down out there? That rain you hear just might be acid rain, it
could change the way you live your life.
The commonly used terms acid rain and acid precipitation describe specific forms of a type of
pollution described generally as acid deposition. Harmful gases that rise into the air mix with cloud
moisture, sunlight, and oxidants. There they chemically combine into dilute sulfuric and nitric acids,
which fall back to the earth. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Each year the Sudbury plant gave off 1% of the entire world s sulfur dioxide emissions, including both
natural and human sources (Morgan, 24).
At a staggering 1,250 ft, quot;Superstack quot; is almost as tall as the Empire State Building. Its main
purpose was to act as a giant chimney to take all toxins higher into the atmosphere so that we humans
would not have to breathe them. The air quality around the smelter was much better and plant life
started growing back. The problem was, the sulfur dioxide was then blown whichever the winds
happened to be going. Most of the time those winds to the sulfur dioxide across state borders and into
Canada (Morgan, 27) Scientists then used satellite photography to trace the weather patterns back to
where the sulfur dioxide originated. The acid falling back down to earth, whether it is in dry or wet
form has drastic consequences for many.
A rainstorm occurs in a forest. The summer rains wash the leaves of the branches and fall to the forest
floor below. Some of the water is absorbed into the soil while other water run off enters nearby
streams, rivers, or lakes. When acid rain is absorbed into the ground, it slowly poisons the tree by
being absorbed through the roots. Acidic rainwater also dissolves the nutrients and minerals that the
plants need from the soil. When acid rain is frequent, leaves tend to lose their protective waxy coating.

Flashbulb Memory Research Paper
A flashbulb memory is an exceptionally clear reflection of an important event (openstax 8.2). In most
instances, people can recall the weather, what they were wearing, dialogue, etc.
A personal flashbulb memory I have is the day my grandpa died. That day July 10, 2012 I visited my
grandparent s house. It was just a quick visit to drop off some dishes because we were headed to
vacation bible school. Every time I leave my grandparent s house, I give both of them a hug, but I was
in such a rush that I did not that day. Immediately after VBS, we got the call that my grandpa was in
the hospital. He had died of a heart attack. It was completely unexpected. We drove straight to the
hospital. When we arrived, my grandma, aunts, uncles, and cousins

California Immigration History
California s history continues to tell us that migration creates huge diversity. Many people came and

become a place where dreams can come true. Since the 1840s massive waves of people from all over
began to come to California specfically because of the discovery of gold. People from the east coast
began to make their way over to California because of the mere possibilities that they may get lucky

During this time servicemen would hear stories about Mexican Americans taunting their wives and
making sexual slurs. On a Saturday night a group of servicemen decided that they would approached a
group of Mexican American women, who were on the opposite side of the street. In between both
groups were Mexican Americans, who wore zoot suits. While walking near them one of the
servicemen, Joe Dacy Coleman, was afraid and he was triggered to attack one of the zoot suit wearer.
The group of zoot suit wearer fought back to defend themselves. The servicemen eventually had to

They headed to downtown to find youth to attack. They first attack they made was against 12 and 13

on the following day they decided to go into their neighborhoods, such as East LA and Boyle Heights,

  • 2. Theme Of Madame Bovary In Madame Bovary, Flaubert manipulates the settings in order to illustrate the progression of Emma s deteriorating state of mind. Each location within Emma s world holds a distinct reality and expectation she must live according to, due to the strong influence it has on her state of mind. Within each city Emma undergoes specific types of emotions and attachments that essentially become the drive to her great depression. Tostes, Yonville, Rouen, and Paris bind together for a single purpose in order to display the overall theme of dissatisfaction and repression, which ultimately become the reason for Emma s ironic death. The city of Tostes commences the start of Emma s journey by serving as an actual representation of the initial progression ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... THe ball serves as a reflection upon her perfectionism and idealism, cultivated in a separate, outside world she s left only to imagine. It mirrors her extreme naivete when she observes each and every detail of the ball such as, the clear complexion that is heightened by the pallor of porcelain, the shimmer of satin, and the veneer of old furniture (35). Emma s distinctive vivid imagination results in an interference within reality when Charles discovers the cigar case with a green silk border (37) on their way home from the ball at La Vaubyessard. For Emma, the case comes to symbolize all the allure, sentimental relationship of the ball itself, and the universe of highborn simplicity and extravagance it represents. Despite the fact that, she sees the physical, subtle elements of the ideal setting of the ball, she doesn t consider the entanglements of what this sort of way of life may bring desire, triviality, or depression. The unfulfilled desires experienced from the sumptuous ball result in Emma s frustration increasing as she comes to notice that her longing for an upscale lifestyle soon become diminished by the deterioration of her state of ... • 3. Beowulf Embodies Heroic Ideals Essay In Beowulf the classic epic, Beowulf, the hero of the epic, and other major characters reflect heroic ideals and beliefs of courage, generosity, unquestioning loyalty and devotion. Courage is most evident throughout Beowulf Beowulf does not back down from any challenge that stands in his way whether it be Grendel, Grendel s mother, or the dragon. His bravery is most evident in his preparation for his fight with Grendel, Beowulf, took off his shirt of armour, the helmet from his head, handed his embellished sword, best of irons to an attendant,... He chose to bravely fight his foe, man to beast without weaponery for he knew it would be cowardly to defeat Grendel with a sword and armor when Grendel himself had none. Even in his ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Beowulf s men show unquestioning loyalty as they submit their lives to their lord. The night of Beowulf s fight with Grendel, the men are told by Beowulf to sleep (in the mead hall) and they bravely do, showing immense trust and devotion as they are aware of that they could very well increase their chance of dying when Grendel attacks if they follow as Beowulf instructs (to sleep as opposed to standing guard through the night). Beowulf remains loyal to King Hrothgar and as he promised to purge the mead hall of its murderous foes, he fulfills his pledge by killing not only Grendel, but also Grendel s mother. Beowulf in turn is also loyal to his men as he states to King Hrothgar, ...if I at your need I should go from life, you would always be in a father s place for me when I am gone: be guardian of my young retainers, my companions, if battle should take me. Nor does Beowulf forget his king as he also requests that Hrothgar send the rewarded treasures and gifts to Hygelac if Grendel s mother defeats him. Wiglaf, portrayed as the only worthy one of Beowulf s company that joined him at his battle with the dragon, also showed loyalty in his aiding his Beowulf in fighting the dragon (as others cowardly shy away from the fight) and followed Beowulf s instructions for carrying out his funeral and other processions after Beowulf s death, and in his speech to the people he ... The next step is to get the management involved and committed to the cause after which an implementation team is setup to manage the process. Most often after this stage, the management backs off leaving the responsibilities to the implementation team alone causing challenges in the implementation. The implementation team then checks the context of the organization against the customer requirements and defines the organization s quality management standard (QMS) from there. An awareness campaign is done to inform everyone in the organization about the QMS implementation and then staff are trained to meet the requirements. Roles are assigned and an operations plan is then created. At this stage, the process plan is documented and then process is carried on. Compare how it differs from working without mask, assessing benefits and any perceived drawbacks. Discuss its potential effect, if any, on your work in non mask theatre. In this essay I will argue that the use of mask is vital in creating a believable and consistent character for performance. The techniques used in masks not only help to define a character but also help an actor improve their improvisation techniques. However, the eviller Draco became the more drastic a counter mask had to be. As our piece was dedicated to stealing a picture of Zefron Zac Efron , when ripped, Draco had to flip suddenly. I drew upon the counter mask exercises we had developed in rehearsals. Changing everything that made Draco who he was. His ever present sneer faded into a frown and a wail. To achieve Draco s mannerism and voice I charged my mask. Copying the arched eyebrow on the mask I found a nasally voice with an added scoff at the end. I then began to work on my inner dramatic monologue. I wanted to keep in mind that Draco thought himself above everyone else hence a simple inner monologue; I am surrounded by idiots...peasants, they should be quivering in my mere presence. Getting the temperament of Draco however was difficult. Despite embodying the arlecchino mask I wanted Draco to keep an air of authority, the temperament I chose for Draco was Choleric This way follow me, follow me this way now! . It will be looking at the key facts of the scenario to advise Rhodri on whether he has a legally binding contract based on the rules of offer and acceptance. It will be applying case law to support this essay as well as information from various sources. It will also be examining the various problems that arise in this scenario such as rules around how to accept an offer, excepting an offer through a third party and accepting an offer with the use of technology. Lastly, this essay will assess the nature of the offer and the way in which an offer is revoked. On a Monday, Daniel advertised his Fiat Punto for sale in the local newspaper. Within the advertisement Daniel stated that he wanted £3000 ono . By stating or nearest offer Daniel has created an Invitation to Treat and has supplied a telephone number and fax number for people to contact him if they wished to purchase the car or offer him a similar amount. • 16. Essay on Walt Whitman Walt Whitman In parting with traditional poetic formalities, Walt Whitman alleviated a burden that impeded his ability to achieve full poetic expression. To Whitman, the strict boundaries that formal meter, structure, and rhyme imposed set limits on his stylistic freedom. This is not to say that these limits prevented Whitman from conveying his themes. Rather, they presented a contradiction to which Whitman refused to conform. In Whitman s eyes, to meet these formal guidelines one would also have to sacrifice the ability to express qualities and passion of living men. Thus, Whitman contested traditional poetic protocol because it added a layer of superficiality that concerned itself with creating perfect rhythmical, metrical, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This meant that stanzas consisted of a predetermined amount of lines or that the poem had a predetermined amount of stanzas. Augmenting this formal structure were predetermined rhyme schemes (such as abab cdcd efef gg in Shakespearean sonnets). Based on the above, we can describe traditional poetic etiquette as adhering to the suggested formal patterns predetermined by the tradition of British poetry. Just in reaching the above conclusion, a problem arises that all poets, not just Whitman, face when trying to conform to this style. This problem is that all of these rules are cumbersome. It is difficult for a poet to convey the theme of a poem when he or she is concerned with whether or not each word fits into a designated formal pattern. Yet, some would argue that this is what makes poetry such an elegant art form. Surely, Whitman recognized the genius found in Shakespeare s sonnets and other constitutive examples of traditional British poetry. However, whether or not Whitman recognized the genius of great traditional British poets, is inconsequential. What did matter was whether or not Whitman felt that this style was appropriate for him. The answer is no. Whitman found problems not simply with the fact that clinging to the traditional style might be burdensome (surely this would not have been an insurmountable task for Whitman), but his main issue with traditional style concerned the ornamental effect of formal regularity: In ... It has progressed into a country of equality that finds its foundation in its personal freedoms and the progressive movement of technology, politics, economics, social views, ethics and so forth since the American Revolution. It has been changing rapidly since the influx of immigrants that came here before the Revolution. The 1950s were a happy time. I Love Lucy and Leave It To Beaver were on television. The Everly Brothers, Jerry Lee Lewis, Chuck Berry and Elvis Presley were popular acts in music. The youth movement of the 1960s was necessary in order for America to progress in social, political, economic, and technological ways that could further America from the 1950s into a new era of personal identity and freedom of expression. It was a time of fathers going to work, mothers staying home and tending to the housework, and kids hanging out in the suburban neighborhoods. The 1950s were the end of World War II which brought back many young serviceman to the states to start families and get jobs. This inflow of young and eager men put a lot of money into industry and goods not available during the war. This created a boom in the economy. The first penny ever made was 100% copper and it was heavier and larger than the usual penny today. The design itself was suggested by the famous Benjamin Franklin ( A Brief History of the U.S. Cent ). Lately, people have talked about the idea of abolishing the penny, but others disagree. The penny should not be abolished. Granted, pennies waste time. MoneyCrasher.com had this to say: Often, when we pay with cash at a store, the total amount doesn t end in a multiple of $0.05... An article on The Spruce says this: [The] Mint can make 5 pennies and still lose less money than making 1 nickel (Headley). This quoted information is basically saying that it would cost less for five pennies to be made compared to just one nickel. The cost difference is actually about 1.4 cents, which doesn t seem like much, but it may become a larger problem when the money amount adds up in the end. Furthermore, if the penny were abolished and the nation would be stuck using nickels, then the Mint would lose even more money. A popular argument for the abolishment of the penny is that it wastes the money for the Mint. This is partly true, but if the pennies were entirely eliminated, more nickels would be in demand, which would cost the Mint more. Twenty nickels, which equals a dollar, costs about $1.54 to make, compared to a dollar amount of pennies, which costs $1.26 to make. With all the pennies abolished, the number of nickels made would have to double, which would subtract more money from the Mint, leaving them with even money savings less than before ... The Court, also, held that the Federal Constitution s eighth amendment s cruel and unusual punishment clause is not violated by the execution of mentally retarded defendants (Cook 869). Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... High reliabilities are especially needed for tests used for individual assessment such as in court cases (Sattler 26). Each IQ test incorporates a standard error of measurement, which is the variation between the obtained score and the true score. This difference is sometimes as much as fifteen points. Thus, the IQ score obtrained by a defendant is only one of many possible scores that may be achieved with different sample questions or the same questions at a different time (Rumley 1334). Should a mentally retarded defendant with an IQ of 70 be exempt from the death penalty when his score could range anywhere from 85 to 55? I vehemently believe that a blanket exemption from the death penalty because of an unreliable IQ score is wrong. In addition, Grossman states that the IQ s of mentally retarded persons do not remain constant. Studies have shown great fluctuation in IQ scores for such reasons as fatigue or illness. Numerous studies indicate that motivational factors can affect IQ scores (Grossman 26 27). Certainly a defendant facing the death penalty would be highly motivated to do poorly on an IQ test knowing that a score of 70 or below could save him from the death penalty. Communication Breakdown Communication Breakdown: The Role of Interagency Communication in the Academic Achievement of Foster Youth Farrah Mitchell Ashford University Chapter 1: Background Context Recent research has made clear that children in foster care represent one of the most vulnerable populations in public education. Though there have been few national studies studying the overall achievement of foster youth, various state and local investigations invariably reveal a picture of personal struggle, over or under identified disabilities, developmental delays, absenteeism, and chronic underperformance relative to peers who are not in foster care. Because of this mix of confusion, lack of effective cross agency communication, and incentives brought about by a lack of viable alternate educational resources other than special education, studies have found both underidentification and overidentification problems with foster youth and special education services. Moreover, even those who are appropriately diagnosed often receive poorly written individualized education plans (IEPs) that are often dropped or ignored when the student moves to a different district (Vacca, 2008). One study found that in Oregon, although 39 percent of foster youth had received IEPs, only 16 percent actually received services (White, Carrington, amp; Freeman, as cited in Ayasse, 1995). Clearly, special education is a point of particular importance and contention for students in foster care. Studies have quantified the negative impact on foster youth through other means beyond academic performance and placement. Due to traumatic past experiences with family, prenatal exposure to drugs and alcohol, neglect, abuse, or a combination of these and other factors, foster youth display a high incidence of emotional or behavioral problems. Many foster youth have difficulty developing fulfilling relationships, resulting in frustration. • 39. The Importance Of Community Ligagement And Outreach... Community engagement and outreach librarians are a relatively new and growing speciality in public librarianship. The idea of outreach is not a new concept for libraries. The Offices for Literacy and Outreach Services was established in the 1970s, formerly the Office for Literacy Services to the Disadvantaged (McCook, 2011). While community engagement and outreach can have different connotations, for the purposes of this paper, they are going to be used interchangeably, as the duties and responsibilities for each type of librarian does not vary much in job postings. The ALA describes outreach librarians as providers of equitable delivery of library services to all people through the development of programs, policies, practices, and behaviors which make the library available to all people (ALA, n.d. c). Many libraries are just hiring their first community engagement and outreach librarians, such as The Verona Public Library (Newton, 2017). Community engagement and outreach librarians seek ways in which to develop deep connections with the community organizations and residents while being the face of the library. This staffing trend moves libraries away from their desks and out into the community to reach community members where they are (Stevenson Domsy, 2016). Scope and Tasks A big question in outreach is should the goal be focused on bringing people into the library or bringing library services out into the community (M. In the West, the topic of sex is extremely taboo. Public displays of affection or lustful words are considered sinful. When Captain James Cook sailed to this area, many of his men participated in debauchery with the exotic women. In this situation, the men had absolutely no respect for the Islander dwellers. The culture was to their liking, therefore they borrowed it for a little while. If there was any real respect for these people, the Western men would have tried to to accept more pieces of it, instead of the parts that gave them pleasure. In Blue Latitudes, when the Natives took the belongings of the crew, Cook planned to do what he had done many times before in the Pacific: seize a chief and hold him until stolen goods were returned (Horwitz 405). Many scholars debate whether the gladiators could be considered athletes due to the stark differences between the Greek athletes of the Olympics and the Roman gladiators of the arena. There are many myths surrounding the gladiators. Most people think that the gladiators were savage and would fight each other to the death every time they entered the arena. Imperialism defined as per Cambridge dictionary as a system or a situation where one country with superior power used force or influence to rule and exploit another country (Cambridge dictionary, 2017).
