Bonds Of Family In Arcite And Palamon In A Knight s Tale
Brothers, cousins, and family turn to enemies quickly over the small matters in life. Geoffrey
Chaucer s A Knight s Tale took two cousins with a bond stronger than life, death, and misery, and
tore it apart like cotton candy over a worthless love. Arcite and Palamon (our main characters) were
prisoners of war of the great Theseus. They claimed to make oaths to one another, and that they
would be loyal to each other until death. These claims were nothing, but words. In the first real test
of their kinship, their bond withered without a second thought. Oaths of loyalty and the bonds of
familywere virtually unbreakable in these times, or were they? Obviously these warriors cared little
for the brotherly connections they shared as they let coincidence and chance dictate their loyalty to
one another. They were painted as noble and honorable men, but they were mainly prideful,
ignorant, and selfish. By the end of the tale, Arcite himself hardly even knew his true intentions
anymore. Palamon and Arcites conflict developed exponentially, which brought to light how true
their loyalties really were. From the beginning, their loyalty to each other never seemed to have a
rock solid foundation. Despite this Arcite and Palamon were depicted as very close and very loyal
to one another in the story. Nevertheless I disagree with this notion that they were ever truly close,
because of how quickly their relationship deteriorated. When the two had found Emily they had
already been

Diedrich Knickerbocker Essay
Diedrich Knickerbocker Washington Irving created a pseudo historian for the purpose of
bettering his own work and to entertain his readers. In 1809 Irving wrote A History of New York
through a persona known as Diedrich Knickerbocker. This was Knickerbocker s first appearance
in Irving s work, but it sure wouldn t be his last. Although he was not real, Knickerbocker was a
historian that seemed to be in love with the people and landscape of the northeast, particularly New
York. Even though Irving never revealed it, some of his characteristics may be found within
Knickerbocker s writing. Washington Irvingwas born in New York City in 1783, he always had an
appreciation of the land and people from there. Irving was quite opposed to... Show more content on

Another story that was found among the papers of Diedrich Knickerbocker was The Legend of
Sleepy Hollow. Both of these stories are tall tales that Irving wrote as entertainment for his
readers, but he mentioned in both that these were stories told to Knickerbocker by people of
Dutch origin, he made sure that the reader knew that. In both of these stories Irving describes the
incredible scenery of New York, and he also describes the kindness and simplicity of the Dutch
people. In Rip Van Winklehe says he happened upon a genuine Dutch family, snugly shut up in
its low roofed farmhouse, under a spreading sycamoreВ… (Irving 573). He also describes a great
mountain setting in New York When the weather is fair and settled, they are clothed in blue and
purple, and print their bold outlines on the clear evening sky; but, sometimes, when the rest of
the landscape is cloudless, they will gather a hood of gray vapors about their summits, which, in
the last rays of the setting sun, will glow and light up like a crown of glory. Diedrich
Knickerbocker s conception of authorship was heroic. The business of writing was a perilous
enterprise, and only those who were dauntless and daring could succeed in their quest for fame.
Writers were intrepid knights who courageously confronted all difficulties and hardships as they
journeyed toward publication, a textual pilgrimage that required

Dora, By Jhumpa Lahiri Essay
At the beginning of the passage, When Mr. Pirzada came to dine, Lilia says, I didn t mean they
were missing. I meant he misses them. They live in a different country, and he hasn t seen them
in a while, that s all. Even though she has had multiple chances to talk to Dora and her parents
about the war in Pakistan and the impacts it had on Mr.Pirzada, she doesn t bring up the issue or
try to inform them about it. This is because Lilia didn t try to history of her motherland until she
met Mr. Pirzada, thus she knows Dora won t be interested or can relate to the issue as Dora is an
American. Jhumpa Lahiricritiques both modern contemporary Americans and immigrants for their
ignorant, privileged life by getting the readers to view the world through the eyes of first generation
Indian American, Lilia.
Halloween is one of the most celebrated and the most marketed holidays in America; therefore,
Americans buys costumes, decorations, and confectioneries which one can t afford in war zone
countries. In Halloween, children and teenagers get dressed up in their costumes and go from
house to house, walking along pathways and pressing doorbells. When the door opens, children and
teenagers would scream trick or treat and they receive candies, chocolates, and other confectioneries
from their neighbours. This tradition has increasingly become more popular and sensational as
more people decorated their house by stringing rubber bats in windows, and turning off lights for
effect.

Student Doctor Website Analysis
Every year, over fifty thousand students apply to medical schools throughout the United States and
Puerto Rico with the goal of becoming a physician. Yet, the application process and the do s and
don t s are often convoluted on what will be best for each individual student; so students have
turned to mentors that have gone through the process to aid them through. Started in 1999, the
internet based forum site Student Doctor Network serves as a base for students interested in
medicine, from high school through practicing physicians, to ask questions, gain multiple opinions,
examine medical data and resources, and share their experience to enable the next generation of
physicians.

completed the application assistant to determine his chances for getting into medical school. While
the algorithm stated that he had little chance of being accepted, he did find it easy to navigate the
site, especially since the overhead banners those leading to forums or news archives displayed the
exact site where he would want to go. He was glad that it took one click to see information instead
of multiple clicks in many different places to get to where you want to go.
New vs. Old Comparison
Given that we both find the site simple and easy to use, the main difference was direction and
purpose. When I visit the site, I go straight for whatever information I am looking for or to a
general forum to browse the current topics. With the case of my friend, he wandered through the
site and skimmed a forum or article that caught his eye. With this information, I can easily define
the Student Doctor Network as a useable, but highly specialized site for budding medical

Yamashita s Tropic of Orange Essay
Yamashita s Tropic of Orange
This paper studies Yamashita s Tropic of Orange as a magical realist text and examines the
implications for such a style on the notion of the urban. Specifically, I will explore how Yamashita
uses magical realism to collapse boundaries and socially transform Los Angeles into an embattled
utopia for the disenfranchised. First, however, magical realism is a loaded term and some definitions
are in order. In addition to important recent innovations in the form and its purposes, magical
realism is in dialogue with a longer history of writing, including the epic, chivalric traditions, Greek
pastoral, medieval dream visions, romantic traditions and Gothic fictions, all of which contribute a
fantastic strain to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Magical realism also functions ideologically but...less hegemonically, for its program is not
centralizing but eccentric: it creates space for interactions of diversity. In magical realist texts,
ontological disruption serves the purpose of political and cultural disruption: magic is often given
as a cultural corrective, requiring readers to scrutinize accepted realistic conventions of causality,
materiality, motivation. (3)
This definition highlights the two dominant markers of the form: the use of fantasy and the counter
hegemonic disruption of cultural and social realities. Fantasy can imagine justice into the reality of
an unjust world, which is why it has been so useful in postcolonial contexts and has interesting
possibilities for metropolitan life. Yamashita s novel fits squarely in this tradition, and I suggest she
leverages the form to imaginatively transform Los Angeles from a plethora of racially, socially and
economically distinct and, at times, antagonistic neighborhoods connected yet separated by
freeways and bound within the borders of the U.S., to an embattled yet impossibly and
transnationally interconnected utopian urbanity located literally on the freeway. Conventions of
causality and materiality are regularly violated as the city physically and socially changes shape,
congregating and collapsing distinct worlds, nations and cultures into one metropolis. Under the
spell of magical realism, Yamashita s Los Angeles becomes a

Flappers Chapter 1 Analysis
1.) In paragraph 13, the writer says that the flapper was as standardized as a chain hotel ; by what
he means is that the flappers were similar almost the same to one another, much like a chain hotel.
He generalizes flappers to be all the same and compares the flapper s dress to be a national product
, as in something that was the same throughout the country. There is no distinction in the cut of
clothing between the rich flapperand the poor flapper national advertising has attended to that. The

In the war, many young boys lost their lives; not long later after the war, a flu epidemic broke out
in the US killing millions of young men and women. After the tragedies, the youth began to
celebrate mortality, fun, money, and youth and the flappers did just that. Flappers were radical
women who didn t follow the conventional standards for women in the US in the 1920s and seeked
personal liberty. They rebelled against genderroles and did what was considered immoral for
women and norms for men; they drank alcohol, smoke cigarette, listened and danced to jazz
music, flirted, and drove a car. But most importantly, they made their own money. Though the
original idea of flappers were poor working girls who waited for someone to marry them, the
standard quickly changed. Flappers became women who wanted to make their own money and
didn t want to marry man to support them. Flappers appearance wise, iconically they had their hair

Liberal, John Ikenberry And The American Liberal World Order
In Liberal Leviathan John Ikenberry argues that the American led liberal hegemonic order has
reached a major shift in its authority within the liberal order. In the last two chapters of the book,
Ikenberry argues that the era of unipolar hegemony for the United States is ending, and that it will
eventually have to re negotiate its balance of power with other emerging states. Critics believe that
the American liberal world order is no longer serving its original purpose, and is becoming a more
imperial order that is beginning to disintegrate. Ikenberry also highlights that there are many states
that could rival the overall hegemonyof the United States. Overall the last two chapters of the book
argue that the United States needs to consider taking a new pathway so that the liberal order can
accurately serve its role for the challenges ahead. Ikenberry argues that there are many dilemmas
within the organization of the international world order. The liberal order is defined by its
openness and its rule based order. Order is maintained in these institutions when states agree to
follow the rules set by these institutions. The liberal order has sought to establish its rules in a non
biased system that will not discriminate other states, so that the entire institution can agree on these
regulations. However, this has raised many serious dilemmas . There seems to be concern of how
the balance of power operates. Ikenberry argues that the international order has been put into place

The Importance Of Chromosomes And Chromosomal Structure
The vast majority of the scientific community is cognizant of the importance of chromosomes and
chromosomal structure in cellular replication and lifespan. One of the most prominent and greatly
researched discoveries of chromosomes has been the telomere and the enzyme telomerase with
which telomeres interact. The term telomere refers to the caps located on the ends of chromosomes
as a form of protection against chromosomal shortening and aging. Telomerase is an enzyme that
aids in the lengthening of telomeres through replenishing TTAGGG ribonucleic repeats that do not
code for particular amino acids and is present in high amounts exclusively in cells such as gametes
or stem cells. These repeats then undergo chromosomal shortening rather than the necessary
ribonucleic acid sequences of DNA. (Yuanjun et al., 2014). Telomerase itself is a highly intricate
enzyme that is capable of interacting with accessory proteins, RNA templates, and the
ribonucleoprotein complex of a catalytic human reverse transcriptase. The human telomerase gene
commonly referred to as hTERT is responsible for activating telomerase and is further regulated by
transcription factors. Copious studies have revealed that aging and other growth crises such as
cancer is telomere length dependent and may be avoided through the increased expression of the
hTERT gene, telomerase activity, and stabilization of telomere length. (Degerman et al., 2011).
Aging is additionally avoided in cells through the negation of

Artist Of Dignity
At first it may be easy to side with Mencken and assume that any dignified artist cannot hold the
same views as his or her country. This is an understandable belief due to the fact that almost
everyone finds something unsettling or wrong with their country. Contrary to the idea that only
artists who rebel are artist of dignity, a countless number of dignified artist have been those who
have supported their country and society by displaying an abundance of nationalism and pride in
their works. Although some artists fall into Mencken s category of rebellion, supporting his claim,
there is and has been a majority of artists who have proven his claim faulty. Being an artist of

Not only paintings, but many other forms of art are used to support one s country. Artists such as
Francis Scott Key, who is far from a painter, also depicted nationalistic pride through his work. He
was a lawyer and poet who wrote the lyrics to the United States national anthem. This song stands
as a U.S. musical symbol. Photographer Alfred Eisenstaedt is known for capturing one of
America s most iconic images of a sailor kissing a nurse on V J Day in Times Square.
Eisenstaedt s photo displays part of what the people of a nation at war experience when war is
over. The energy and passion seen in the photograph embodies the emotion that filled the United
States the day that the Japanese surrendered. One more artist who contradicts Mencken s claim is
William Shakespeare. Throughout his life, he remained immensely indebted to Queen Elizabeth
and King James I. Both of these royalties loved drama and theater. His A Midsummer Night s
Dream was written for a special court performance for Queen Elizabeth. These are only a few
individuals who prove Mencken s idea that an artist of any dignity is against his country false.
Mencken s statement might hold some truth, but it is evident that not all artists of dignity have to
share the same hate for their country. Many artists of many different genres can have a passion for
their country that leads to their art being immortal. The irritation and hate certain artists feel is not
what makes them artist of dignity. This hate is merely what motivates them. Numerous things could
be a motive that an artist finds and is inspired by. Mencken seems to forget this when making his
claim that it is, safe to assume that an artist of any dignity is against his

Cases of Overcoming Hardship
Hardship is something everyone must overcome at some point in their lives. Everyone deals
with hardships differently. It is harder for some people to recover from hardship because of their
family, friends, or even because they can t find the will within themselves to deal with hardships.
It would be easier for someone who is naturally determined and strong willed to overcome things
because they have a inbred ability to conquer their fears and leave behind whatever it was that was
making their life unbearable. If parents don t support their kids decisions, such as Jeannette going
to New York, then that can make it harder to triumph over things they struggle with. If friends don
t encourage someone to go on and make something better of themselves, they will hold them back
and they will be stuck in the life everyone expects them to live. Many parents support their children
to learn from their mistakes and make better choices than what they made when they were a kid and
even now. Friends can be a huge part in trying to get over things that they are struggling from. With
the right support and help from them it makes it that much easier to overcome hardships. The
person struggling must find it within themselves to be a better person each day. Not everyone has
the same chance of recovery, but that doesn t mean that they can t do it. They may just have to
worker harder, but that means the reward will be that much better. Jeannette started from the

The Lesson That Helped Me More Than Anything A character in Norton Juster s The Phantom
Tollbooth was taught a something that they didn t was valuable at the time, but later in life
found that it was something that helped him. As we grow up we question a lot of the things that
we are taught, like how is it going to help us in the future. For me it was treating others the way
you want to be treated. To me I thought that we should treat others the way they treat us. My
family tried to show me that that wasn t the answer and that nothing is going to work if you don
t know how to move on from what they have done for you. Today I m in highschool and I can tell
you that treating others the way you want to be treated rather than treating them like they treated
you is very important. People mature and learn from their mistakes and often need to be
accepted into a different group. Some kids don t know where they want to be so they treat some
people different than others. In elementary school I was one of the kids that was bullied and was

Abortion Should NOT Be Legal In The United States
With the presidential election being over and the White House along with the Congress having a
big shift from democratic control to Republican control now we the people bring up questions such
as what s going to happen with gun control now, what about the affordable care act, will gay

limit the time period in which a woman can get an abortion some people may wonder if it will
stay legal much longer especially for such a strong republican government that we have right now
they will not waste time trying to get as much done as I can while there is a strong republican
party in the capital. However with abortion is it such a bad thing that we make that illegal in this
great country.

Influence of Religion on Society during the Fifteenth and Sixteenth Centuries
The undeniable power, force, and influence of religion stand out throughout history. However,
according to J. Michael Allen and James B. Allen in World History from 1500, in the fifteenth and
sixteenth centuries, religion was exceptionally important, because it had a great influence on
everything from government to social order and family relationships (16). Hundreds of years may
separate these two time periods and the modern world, but the same positive effects of religion
such as unity, security, and a social order are still basic ideals in today s world. This is also true

With this sense of security and belonging felt throughout the community, people felt united,
especially as Joan was able to mobilize them to fight For God and for France. They shared
common interests and common goals in living a religious lifestyle as dictated by their religion
whenever possible. In fact, one of Christopher Columbus s motives for sailing westward to India
was to open up opportunities to take the Christian gospel to the heathen (Allen Allen 23). Religion
also brought a new structure to households. Elders were not only parents, but they also became
teachers and role models for their children (12). This became obvious in the movie Joan of Arc,
where the majority of dinner conversations related to their religious beliefs, as it was important to
pass on the importance and need for religion to the future generations. Unity was a very powerful
tool during this time period because power came in numbers. This was obvious when Joan gathered
the community and convinced the people to defend their beliefs and fight back against the English.
Since the people were united in their faith, it was much easier to defend their territories and beliefs.
Thus, religion had tremendous positive effects.
On the other hand, this new feeling of expansion, security, hope, and unity were the constant

Culture Is The Sum Total Of Ways Of Living Built Up By A...
What is culture? Culture has a very broad definition. But in terms of anthropology, culture is the
sum total of ways of living built up by a group of human beings and transmitted from one generation
to another (www.dictionary.com). Culture is learned, it is passed on from many generations. What
is gender? Gender is either the male or femaledivision of a species, especially as differentiated by
social and cultural roles and behavior. However, gender plays a big role in cultureall around the
world. In this analysis essay I will be analyzing how males and females are raised with
differences in third world countries compared to the western culture of the United States. What
are the roles that males and females have? In countries such as India, Pakistan, China, there is
still a lot of controversy about how a male and female should be treated. It has a lot to do with
culture and tradition. Some of these cultural traits have been passed down from generations and
are still around which some people follow. Some may consider it double standards and others may
think that it is the norm. So how is gender related to culture? In society it is expected that the
women and men behave a certain way. The gender disparities are shaped and formed by culture. It
is better explained by Jyotirmaya Tripathy who wrote the article How Gendered is Gendered
Development? Culture, Masculinity, and Gender Differences , she explains that though there has

Analyzing Pmj s Method For Achieving Success Outside Of...
Ever long for the good ol days of music? If so, Postmodern Jukebox (PMJ) can take you back to
whenever those glory days might have been. Imagined and created by Scott Bradlee, a trained
jazz pianist, PMJ takes popular music from today or the recent past and remakes it in all kinds of
vintage genres, from 30 s jazz, to Motown, to bluegrass hoedown. The group consists of around
forty artists, many of whom are classically trained, that put out weekly videos featuring any various
combination of them at a time. These videos are put up on their Youtube channel and regularly gain
millions of views each. Because of their internet inception, PMJ has bypassed the existing music
industryalmost entirely, and, in spite of that, has been able to remain profitable through producing
music. This is unique indeed, as even artists that sign on with major label companies are often left
in the red. This paper will analyze PMJ s method for achieving success outside of the traditional
music industry, will look at how their music fits in the broader landscape of popular music, and will
show that their approach to producing music is a good, reproducible model for other artists to
follow.
PMJ s rise to popularity is extremely non traditional in nature. Typically, an aspiring band signs a
contract with a recording label and then has to create a certain number of songs for a certain
number of albums and go on tour for a relatively pre determined amount of venues. The recording
label has total control

Chronic Pain Research Paper
The National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke (NINDS) implies that acute pain, left
untreated, can lead to chronic pain. Chronic pain affects more Americans than diabetes, heart
disease and cancer combined and leads the cause of long term disability in America.
The first step in taking control is determining which type of pain you have.
Acute pain can be brief or last for months. Acute pain goes away after the cause has been treated.
Chronic pain is ongoing. Chronic pain lingers for months or years and can impact your physical and
emotional well being.
Here are simple ways to help manage your chronic pain:

Advantage And Advantages Of Airplanes
I.INTRODUCTION Vertical Take off and Landing (VTOL) and Short Take off and Landing
(STOL) flight has been one of the main interests of both the civilian and military aviation
communities throughout the history of flight. The first patented VTOL design concept was by
Nikola Tesla in 1928. In May 1951, Lockheed and Convair were awarded contracts in the attempt
to design, construct, and test two experimental VTOL fighters. As a result, Lockheed produced the
XFV, and Convair produced the Convair XFY Pogo, nicknamed the Pogo . Both experimental
programs proceeded to flight status and completed test flights 1954 1955. Similarly, the X 13 flew
a series of test flights between 1955 and 1957. But due to much higher complexity, cost and low...

Another advantage, both to operators and to nearby residents, is the large reduction in ground
noise level made possible by the utilization of the steep descent and climb out capability of the
VTOL aircraft. The VTOL airplane has great potential value in its military applications too. The
most obvious advantage is its utilization in delivering ground troops and supplies, the requirement
being only that a clearing of sufficient size exist in a reasonably level region. Tactical close air
support VTOL airplanes can operate in close proximity to zones of action out of these same
clearings, thus reducing the time required to deliver ordnance on a target, or the number of
airplanes required airborne on station. Destruction of or damage to airfield runways loses
significance if the aircraft utilizing the field have a VTOL capability. Consistent with weight and
size limitations, each VTOL airplane is capable of shipboard operations, without the requirement for
arresting hooks, catapult fittings, and the usually associated structural beef up. By the same token,
many ships, with the relatively simple addition of a landing area, are capable of operating VTOL
airplanes without the requirement for heavy and complicated arresting

The Application Of Direct Effect
This question concerns the application of direct effect to the facts in question. In particular, Fergie
requires advice on whether or not he can rely on Directive 15/2012 and enforce his EU law rights
in the national court. Fergie takes legal proceedings against Charlston Council to claim
compensation for his injury.
The council seems to have complied with the domestic law which stipulate only that, the caterers
has a duty to eliminate unhealthy food. The Act is silent on genetically modified food. The act also
does not stipulate the percentage limit of the production of genetically modified food. Charlston
Council is therefore not in breach of the national provisions. The directive, however, sets out more
stringent provisions in relation ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In addition, directives can only be vertically directly effective: that is, they can only be enforced
against a state or a public authority (Marshall)
In this case, the conditions seem to be met. The Directive is clear and precise as well as
unconditional. It sets out the limit percentage of the production of genetically modified food,
2%, if it is more than 2%, member states has to take all the necessary measures to eliminate it.
The Directive is not too vague. There is no evidence to suggest any conditions are attached to
these rights or that they are in any way ambiguous. The implementation deadline has clearly
passed. Fergie s claim is against the Charlston Council which is clearly an organ of the state. This
is not affected by the fact that in this case, it acts in the capacity of an employer (Marshall). Fergie
s claim is therefore vertical and he can rely on the Directive and the more generous rights within it
in preference to the more limited provisions of the national acts.
If Fergie is not employed by a state body or public body, the answer would be different as there
would be no direct effect, he cannot rely on Directive. The conditions for direct effect are not met.
While the conditions relating to clarity and precision as well as the passing of the implementation
deadline are the same as mentioned above and are thus not reiterated here, the requirement that
there exists a vertical relationship between

High-Protein Diets For Weight Loss Essay
High Protein Diets for Weight Loss
The Role of Dieting in Society Today
The preoccupation of modern society with appearance is reflected in part by the preponderance of
Americans who engage in dieting behaviors. Despite the nutritional and fitness literature which
pervades society today, 33% of the American population continues to be overweight (Bates, 1997).
The USDA recommendation for a low fat, high complex carbohydrate diet over the years has
seemingly not been effective, since the proportion of overweight Americans has increased. Many
frustrated Americans have in turn looked beyond the high carb, low fat diet to other less
conventional measures (http.//web.usatoday.com/life/health/lhs641.htm). Dietary fads have sprouted

Popular Examples of High Protein Diets
The Zone diet, as described in The Zone by Barry Sears, Ph.D. is an example of a protein
adequate diet (http://web.usatoday.com/life/health/lhs641.htm). Small meals of fruits, vegetables,
monounsaturated fats, and low fat proteins are advised to be eaten throughout the day. Sources of
total calorie composition outlined by this dietary plan is as follows: 40% carbohydrate, 30% fat,
30% protein. The amount of fat is dictated by the amount of protein consumed at each meal. The
role of fat in this diet plan is described by Dr. Sears as follows: slows the rate of carbohydrate
entry into bloodstream which reduces insulin response, releases hormone (CCK) from stomach to
tell brain to stop eating, and supplies the building blocks (essential fatty acids) for eicosanoids (http:
//www.users.cts.com/crash/d/dbrowndc/zonefaq.htm#Unfavorable). Therefore according to this
perspective, in order for the body to burn fat and weight loss to occur, insulin must be maintained
within a prescribed zone (Kirby, 1997).
This high protein diet is depicted as a life long hormonal control program which allows a person
to maximize full genetic potential. The zone diet allows a person to eat as if they were already at
their ideal percentage of body fat because stored calories are being hormonally released. The
advertised effects of this dietary plan on the body include: burns fat, fights heart disease, diabetes,
PMS, chronic

Although such technology is becoming increasingly popular with elite athletes, the provision of it

This replicates altitude training. Without the technology of hypoxic chambers it is still possible to
create the altitude atmosphere by training with a restricted breathing pattern (hypoxic training).
This can be an effective way of replication, but technology is still required to measure the carbon
dioxide levels in the alveoli air.
The sporting institutes also use technology to analyse performance statistics, such as, speed,
power, heart rate, blood lactate, oxygen uptake, flexibility, technique and aesthetics (for some
aesthetic based sports, ie dancing, ice dancing). An example of this is using video recording and
playback technology to record an athlete s performance so that it can be analysed during playback.
This can be used to fine tune technique, or to work on the aesthetic sides of the aesthetic based
sports.
Particularly in aesthetic based sports video is used during media broadcasts to show the public
snippets of competitors in slow motion. The clips are normally of a particular specified element.
More recently the judges in ice dancing have been using a system that provides each judge with a
computer screen and with this they can select the slow motion elements that they want to view
before giving their scores.
Another example of the analysis of performance statistics is the use of technology in computerised

Who Is Grendel s Mother In Beowulf
In Beowulf , Grendel s mother is perhaps one of the most confusing characters. While she is
notably smaller and supposedly more frail than her son, it is clear that Grendel s mother is quite
possibly the most vicious beast presented in this piece of literature. Grendel s mother could be
best described as a grief racked and ravenous (1278) creature when he finds out about her son s
death, and her disposition is one that is desperate for revenge (1278). Grendels mother may
represent a number of things in the text, and the author chooses to depict her as a limitless being.

An Efficient Way Transmit Codes
Throughout time the need for an efficient way transmit codes were essential to success, after
World War I and into the start of World War II American forces was running out of ideas for
codes. The USA had always used the white s soldiers for the code talkers because there were
easy to train, and a abundance of them to choose making them the practice choose for code

kid and into his teens he grew up on a Navajo reservation and his dad was a missionary. Whit all
the time that Johnston spent of the reservation he became familiar with the people and their
language. With the use of the Navajos it grained equality for Native Americans which was not
found in the late 1800 s, and soon it gained them a greater respect by the whites into today s age.
In the late 1800 s Indians were seen through the eyes of the settlers as pests, people who occupy
the land that rightfully belonged to the whites. They were thought of as savages. However this
was not true, the Navajo Indians and many other tribes were only willing to fight for their land,
families and the property that they have inhabited for hundreds of years (Robert A. Roessel, 1). In
this time of lack of control, Navajos were overpowered by Americans who were in position of
authority and control. This is because Americans lacked the understanding of the Navajo way,
leading to be fatal for many as they were being transferred, resigned,

Sexual Innuendoes in the Films of Alfred Hitchcock
When watching an Alfred Hitchcock movie, have you ever found yourself sympathizing with a
deceptive seductress or a soon to be sex offender? If so, you may have felt guilt from watching
such sexual innuendoes, but don t feel too bad. This is just one of the intents of Alfred Hitchcock as
he weaves many of his tales with sensual characters. His films portray a vast array of sexuality
from showing a battle of the sexes and tales of romance to showing homosexuals and sex offenders.
Overall, the films of Alfred Hitchcock portray varying degrees of sexuality, which is manifested
both romantically and perversely. The sexuality is one of the aspects of Hitchcock s films that adds

Fourth, Robin Wood tells us, A Hitchcock film is an organism, with the whole implied in every
detail and every detail related to the whole (Boyd 6). Through these four aspects, we can see that
Hitchcock typically opts to show unsettling scenarios that can be seen as much in the intricacies of
the film as in the entire premise. So, this sets the stage so that we, the audience, may know to look
deeper into his films than just what is portrayed on the surface.
The evolution of Hitchcock s ideas on sexuality came from his schooling and progressed
throughout his film career. From looking into his schooling, I have found evidence that
Hitchcock had received mixed messages. In the Jesuit school where he studied, he learned,
women were at least a distraction, often a temptation, and in some cases dangerous (Hurley 219).
However, he also retained many moral ideas including some awareness of sex and love as having
divine origins (222). These two notions intrigued Hitchcock to begin exploring the sexual side of
humanity within his films. Before he even began his career, one can see that the film that emerged
during the last of his schooling became even more sexually overt (219).
Through the beginning of his career, Hitchcock avoided depicting overt sexual overtones. In the
1950 s, Hitchcock clung to his themes which included, the coy sexuality (Silet). However,

Applying An Analytical Model Of A Plane Wall
Abstract
To conduct a proper analysis of the 1 D transient conduction in a plane wall we must take the
necessary mathematical procedures to obtain an analytical model that accurately represents the
heat transfer that occurs. The equation must accurately model a plane wall that has a thickness L,
is well insulated on one side, but is still vulnerable to convection on the other side. In order to
complete the model, one must scale the problem in terms of both a length scale and a time scale to
transform the variables to a dimensionless form that allows for a set of solutions that can be
narrowed down to the simple parameter, Bi=hL/k.
Introduction Mathematical Model
This analysis looks into the phenomena of 1 D transient conduction in a plane wall of thickness L
that is insulated on one side and subject to convection on the other. The conduction is governed by
the differential heat equation: u_t=в€
ќu_xx (1)
Here, u signifies the temperature of the entire body and в€
ќ signifies the thermal diffusivity.
Furthermore, the differential heat equation above must respect the following boundary conditions:
u_x |_(x=0)=0
ku_x |_(x=L)=h(u| T_в€
ћ) u|_(t=0)=T_i In the above boundary conditions, k represents a material
property commonly referred to as thermal conductivity, whereas T_i represents the initial
temperature throughout the wall. In this instance the flow conditions are such that they sustain

What is a foil? Right away some may think of the aluminum sheets to cover or make things out

when two characters personalities are completely opposite from one another to accentuate each

Montagues and Capulets. The Montagues and Capulets are the two families who have a rivalry
with each other. Their hate for each other causes a lot of unnecessary drama especially when it

Sullivan
Not only did Sullivan aesthetically use masonry in bank construction to impact modernism, but he
also used elaborate ornamentation. Notably, the use of ornamentation, in the way that Sullivan
grandiosely applied it, grew less and less by other architects during his time. However, Sullivan
noticed the importance of savoring aesthetic ornamentation, terra cotta decorative features , in
architecture and applied it to most of his buildings in varying degrees, but especially to his bank
designs (Karwatka 9). In fact Dankmar Adler, Sullivan s business partner for a time, felt Sullivan

The Kingdom of Heaven is an epic film directed and produced by Ridley Scott, and written by

Crusades of the 12th century, and is basically about the life of Balian, a French blacksmith, who

In this story, I could travel back in time to experience life during the era of the Crusades.

Rfid And Radio Frequency Identification
1.INTRODUCTION
NFC is an extension of RFID (Radio Frequency Identification). RFID combines the interface of a
smart card and a reader into a single device.
NFC is a short range wireless technology that provides secured two way interaction between
electronic devices. Here, the communications are established in a simple way i.e. it does not
require any special set up by the users which is required for many wireless communication
technologies. NFC provides users the contactless communication i.e. access digital content and
connect electronic devices together with in a distance of about 4 to 5 centimeters. As no physical
connections are required for near field communication, the connection becomes more reliable.
NFC allows users to share the content or the data between two electronic devices, pay bills
wirelessly or even use their cell phone as an electronic travelling ticket on existing contactless
infrastructure which is already in use for public transportations.
The significant advantage over NFC is the shorter set up time. For Bluetooth we need to set up
manual configurations, instead of that the connection between NFC devices can be established at
once and quickly. NFC, due to its shorter range provides a higher security than Bluetooth. Thus it
makes NFC suitable for crowded areas where correlating a signal with its transmitting physical
device might otherwise prove impossible.
1.1 Evolution of NFC:
Sony and Philips have taken the lead and developed the technology. It

School Culture Reflection Paper
Perhaps positive school culture was another area I presumed as a given. When referencing the
ELCC standard 2.0 I feel confident in my contributions and leadership skills developed throughout
my tenure at York Suburban and refined through this internship experience. Again the big ah ha in
this arena was actually identifying what I was seeing be played out. The Pennsylvania Department
of Educationclearly defines the concept of missions, vision and values (See Appendix A for
Concepts of Mission, Vision and Values) and York Suburban has a highly visible mission statement.
We have this mission statement posted in all classrooms including kindergarten classes where
students can not quite read them yet. I don t think many people in the general public can see the
true value in schoolculture, but appreciate when it is positive. Our district boasts a clear mission
and vision and shared values are communicated through a newly adopted tag line: A Community of
Encouragement, A Culture of Excellence.
Because climate and culture are so closely related I like to make the analogy that climate is the
talk of a building and culture is the walk. Often there is a positive climate, but the culture is lagging.
When leadership has a strong vision for both climate and culture, then the building as a whole is
talking the talk and walking the walk. I continue to view climate and culture through two lenses,
and understand that the lines are often blurred between the two. In open schools where climate
and culture are strong, new leadership is tasked with getting a pulse on the existing situation,
but with some explicit details as to enable the continuation of both. New leadership in a building
with a less than positive climate and culture is tasked with identifying the missing elements and
diligently establishing a vision to begin to develop a positive and effective open school. Both
new leaders will need time. Both situations require a process. Knowing the importance of all
these pieces to the puzzle will enable me to either model what I ve observed, or maintain depending
on weather I am a principal in a district similar to mine or very different. It will be a challenge for
me to keep the process slow and steady if much

Henry Hudson Essays
Henry Hudson was an English explorer, who sailed along the North East coast of North
American. His early life is unknown, for there is not even a record of the year he was born. His
final days are a mystery, after his mutinous crew set him adrift in the bay that bears his name, June
1611. It is believed that he could have been the grandson of a London alderman who helped found
the Muscovy Company, which is a trading company. Hudson took four voyages beginning in 1607
and continued to1611, making claims for the English and the Dutch. At one point, he was arrested
for working with the Dutch, because in those days working for another country was considered
treason. Hudson was also known as the grandfather of the English whaling... Show more content on

They put Henry Hudson, his son, and others they didn t like onto a small raft, then set them adrift,
never to be seen again.
Henry Hudson made several important discoveries. He founded the Hudson Bay and Hudson
River. He found the land that later became New York. He also helped to prove that the sun does
not melt the ice at the North Pole and that there is no passage through the Northeast to the Pacific.
The countries that sponsored him benefited though his discoveries. The area, today called New
York, was settled and colonized by the Dutch. As well as, the English whaling industry, which
benefited for his discovery of the whale, pods a Spitzbergen Islands.
Henry Hudson was an adventurous explorer. He started with a sponsorship from his native
country England, but when that was not available he worked for the Dutch. Even though he was
arrested for treason, because he was working for another country, he came back and was able to
get hired by another English company. He was determined to find a quick northern passage to the
east for the benefit of the trade industry. He faced many challenges in his travels. In the end, the

Essay On Iran Nuclear Deal
The Iran Nuclear Deal: Retain or Abolish? Currently, The USA position about Iran nuclear deal
has been one of the most controversial topics in the political and international affairs fields. People
are taking sides about what should be the best decision for the USA government. Should the USA
tear up the deal or stay in it?
During these past days, the news is so focused on the subject Iran, here are some headlines:
Scuttling the Iran deal will lead to another North Korea, how the Iran deal prevents a covert
nuclear weapons program, the sun sets on a good Iran deal. The question is what all these
headlines have in common? In my opinion, I think that the best decision for the USA government
is to stay in the Iran nuclear deal for three ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As president Trump s reluctance to certify if Iran is following all the requirements, it illustrates that
the deal remains under threat.
First all, the USA administration, president Donald Trump and some his political adviser, are
willing to end up the USA involvement in the JCPOA and the US president claimed that it was the
worse decision. For me, it was one of the most successful deals in the last years because it is
preventing Iran from building nuclear weapons and provide improved transparency. Which means
that under a nuclear agreement, Iran has the obligation to permit the International Atomic Energy
Agency (IAEA) to conduct a deep inspection on Iran s nuclear facilities if IAEA requests to do so.
However, If Iran violates the agreement, it will severely punish and all sanctions will come back
and Iran aliens will not be able to reverse the situation or block the sanction applied to Iran such
as economic, political and others that can break the Iran economy. The US government can do
nothing to stop Iran to improve its nuclear weapons. If Iran decided not to make new nuclear
weapons, it was because they decided not to do it.
Some disagree that, the Obama administration is prepared to sign an agreement that will expire in
a mere 10 years time. At this point, any restriction that the deal imposes on Iran would be vanish.
Iran s economy would be free from all nuclear related sanctions and its government would be
treated the same as any other

Corruption Is The Biggest Among The Challenges Essay
CHAPTER ONE
1.0INTRODUCTION
Corruption is the biggest among the challenges in Nigeria. It is clear to every citizen of Nigeria
that the level of corruption in the country is high. Corruption, an ethical and moral problem which
varies from place to place, time to time, culture to culture and with the level of economic
development; is a global phenomenon that affects developed, developing and underdeveloped
nations of the world. It is a major societal problem in the 21st century (Aluko, 2008).
1.1What is Corruption?
Corruption is dishonest or fraudulent conduct by those in power typically involving bribery
(Uzochukwu Mike on hubpages). Corruption is illegitimate use of power to benefit a private
interest (Morris, 1991). Corruption is the giving or taking of bribe by a person to cover up the
truth. It also involves the use of public funds for private use. Corruption most times also is an act
considered as a criminal act according to the law of that particular place. Corruption is a disease
that destroys the fabric of any nation.

Judgement Day, Or The Judgement
A huge concern for most people, Christ follower or not, is the question of what happens in the
end? What happens when humans die? It is a question that many people do not want to discuss
because it brings up fear. Regardless of what people believe, all humankind will be judged in the
end. Judgement Day, or the Judgement, is something that will happen in end times where God
has selected a day to judge the world in righteousness. All people who have lived upon the earth,
including fallen angels, will stand before Christ and give an account for his or her actions,
thoughts, and words. The Judgment will be discussed in order to describe how it has been
interpreted and studied as well as why it is important in life today.
In order for one to believe that there will be a final judgement, one must have a specific
worldview. One must believe that there is a God. This does not necessarily mean they are
Christian as a person can believe in a God without actually following Him. One must believe in the
Bible and that it is the inerrant word of God. One must also believe in Heaven and Hell and a basic
belief in Eschatology. Eschatology comes from a Greek word eschados which means last and
logia which means the study of . It is the study of what happens in end times. One must believe that
when they die, he or she s soul will leave their body and go to Heaven. From there, they will then be
reunited with their body at the resurrection, and then await final judgement.

Pope Francis Of Assisi
Pope Francis, born Jorge Mario Bergoglio on December 17 1936, is the 266th and current Pope of
the Catholic Church, having been elected Bishop of Rome and absolute Sovereign of Vatican City.

became Archbishop of Buenos Aires in 1998, and a cardinal in 2001. Following the resignation of
Pope Benedict XVI in February 2013, on March 13, 2013 the papal conclave elected Jorge Mario

He is calling upon the Church and the world with encouragement to begin a new chapter in
evangelization.
Pope Francis has captured the attention of the world with his simple ways, humbleness, and love
for the poor and sick.
After reading Pope Francis new book, The Name Of God Is Mercy . It s a written in the form of
conversation with the Vatican reporter and writer Andrea Tornielli. It s worth reading whatever one
s belief system. At the intellectual level, it gives a sense of which direction one of the largest
religious groups in the world is heading, and at the human level, it gives an expression of something
unifying.
In the book, the Pope has as relentless focus on mercy and forgiveness and indeed has called this
year, the Holy Year of Mercy. Critical to this is his reframing of sin. Rather than seeing it as
something to be despised, he sees it as an opportunity for mercy and forgiveness to manifest itself.
In religious terms, he writes about how the original sin meant humanity is forever wounded. This
means we can distinguish right from wrong, but we will inevitably falter. The mercy of God is
such that he sacrificed his Son, Jesus, to redeem humanity for its sins. And precisely because there
is sin, God revealed himself as

The Leader As A Strategist
The Leader as a Strategist Report
Microsoft Corporation is an American multinational corporation headquartered in Redmond,
Washington, United States that develops, manufactures, licenses, and supports a wide range of
products and services predominantly related to computing through its various product divisions.
Established on April 4, 1975 to develop and sell BASIC interpreters for the Altair 8800, Microsoft
rose to dominate the home computer operating system market with MS DOS in the mid 1980s,
followed by the Microsoft Windows line of operating systems. Microsoft is one of the largest
software corporations in the world that has diversified in recent years into the video game industry
with the Xbox and its successor, the Xbox 360 as well as into the consumer electronics and digital
services market with Zune, MSN and the Windows Phone OS. (Microsoft, 2015)
Primarily in the 1990s, critics contend Microsoft used monopolistic business practices and anti
competitive strategies including refusal to deal and tying, put unreasonable restrictions in the use
of its software, and used misrepresentative marketing tactics; both the U.S. Department of Justice
and European Commission found the company in violation of antitrust laws. Known for its
interviewing process with obscure questions, various studies and ratings were generally favorable
to Microsoft s diversity within the company as well as its overall environmental impact with the

Animal Testing For The Sole Benefit Of Humans
For years, there has been a debate regarding the use of animals in medical testing for the sole benefit
of humans. Many people believe that testing on nonhuman animals solve the many issues that
humans face, but most of the time animals are exploited and put through painful experimental
processes. The purpose of this paper is to examine the possible alternatives to animal testingand the
evaluate whether there is a reduction in animals being used for experiments. The author of this
paper will examine four journal articles titled as the following: Accept No Substitutes: The Ethics
of Alternatives, Scientists and Animal Research: Dr. Jekyll or Mr. Hyde?, Strategic Focus on 3R
Principles Reveals Major Reductions in the Use of Animals in Pharmaceutical Toxicity Testing, No
Animals Harmed: Toward a Paradigm Shift in Toxicity Testing. Each journal article highlights
different arguments of the said problem and reveals information about animal testing that many
may not be aware of. The author will summarize all four journal articles and apply a response to
each one.
Joel Marks, the writer of the Accept No Substitutes: The Ethics of Alternatives journal, aims to
express the reason why alternatives to animal testing should not be considered. Marks (2012) starts
out by stating that it is common to argue that animal experimentation is justified by its essential
contribution to the advancement of medical science (p. 1). According to Marks, this argument
contains an empirical claim that

Pension System In Australia
Overview Global retirement income systems are stretched to the limit these days. People on the
verge of retiring are worse off than those who retired a decade earlier due to the rising cost of
purchasing an annual flow of future income in most jurisdictions around the world. According to
Glenn Stevens, governor of Reserve Bank in Australia, the global retirement income system is
under a lot of pressure, and the problem must be acute in Europe, where sovereign yields in
some countries are negative for significant durations. Mr. Steven s went on to say, How will an
adequate flow of income be generated for the retired community in the future, in a world in
which long term nominal returns on low risk assets are so low? According to Mr. Stevens, they
have to accept a lot more risk to generate the expected flow of future income they want, he
warned. So, in a world in which long term yields on low risk assets (i.e., bonds) are so low, what
s a retiree to do? Pension systems vary across countries, and there s no single model for all. The
pension landscape is changing In OECD countries. Recent reforms are changing the way pension
savings are distributed. In several jurisdictions like Britain, Denmark, Australia, Holland, Sweden,
Switzerland and Canada, pension reforms have allowed retirees to take control of their own
retirement pots to spend as they please. The changes apply to people with defined contribution
pension schemes, which both employer and employee contribute to

Isaiah Research Paper
1st Isaiah
From a historical and geographical perspective, the book of Isaiah is an accurate representation. A
lot of what has been found through archeology supports the events in the book. The book of Isaiah
focuses on the south kingdom of Judah. During the book, the North Kingdom is in the process of
its down fall. The book of Isaiah gives us insight into the minds of the southern kings at the time.
Thus, we are able to see the historical context of how the south eventually fell.
Much of Isaiah s messages to the Kings are in the form of political instruction. Isaiah first important
message as a prophet comes during the time of King Ahaz. At this time Assyriahas grown very
strong. The North Kingdom is already vassal. Thus, the north and Aram are planning a rebellion.
They threaten Ahaz by telling him to join the rebellion or they will invade the south kingdom.
Isaiah s message is to stay out of the conflict and trust God. Ahaz however, calls Assyria to aid him
and uses treasures from the temple in order to bribe the Assyrians (Brubacher, Meta). In the end,
Assyria crushes the rebellion saving the south but making them vassal in the process. The next
king, Hezekiah inherits a vassal nation. He is most known for his rebellion against Assyria.
Isaiah tells him to stay out of the revolt as the lord will take of the situation. Hezekiah believes he
will have a chance since a new ruler recently took the throne and decides to join the rebellion. In
theory, this mentally would have made sense. The time of a new king taking the throne is the best
time to rebel. His disregard for the message ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Corporate Cultures Are Made Up Of Many Individuals
Corporate cultures are made up of many individuals, developing in different behaviors over time.
Several factors impact the way a business cultivates. From the character traits of its leadership in its
trade activities and industry environment. Corporate culture can develop from teams representing
divisions and departments within the business that can be made up of differentiated functions or
units that must be integrated into a unified effort if the organization is to be effective (Brown,
2011, p.127). In functioning, the departments pursue their goals from individuals coming together
for a common cause. For example, in the case of the Old Family Bank, which is departmentalizing
with a check processing, computer service, and an operation s department. The vice president of
managementresponsible for gathering data is selected to find out how the organizational behavioral
aspect of the business is functioning. Therefore, H. Day VP of management has decided to
scrutinize the turnover, absenteeism, and productivity statistics/figures of all the Banks department
s behavior (Brown, 2011, p.141). The gathering of the data provides a conclusion that was relevant
to the check processing and computer services departments. Let s look together at Day s diagnostic
process.
After observing the evidences of the case, it is knowledgeable that Day is applying a differential
and integration model to analyze the data from the departments scrutinizing. The differentiation and

  • 2. Bonds Of Family In Arcite And Palamon In A Knight s Tale Brothers, cousins, and family turn to enemies quickly over the small matters in life. Geoffrey Chaucer s A Knight s Tale took two cousins with a bond stronger than life, death, and misery, and tore it apart like cotton candy over a worthless love. Arcite and Palamon (our main characters) were prisoners of war of the great Theseus. They claimed to make oaths to one another, and that they would be loyal to each other until death. These claims were nothing, but words. In the first real test of their kinship, their bond withered without a second thought. Oaths of loyalty and the bonds of familywere virtually unbreakable in these times, or were they? Obviously these warriors cared little for the brotherly connections they shared as they let coincidence and chance dictate their loyalty to one another. They were painted as noble and honorable men, but they were mainly prideful, ignorant, and selfish. By the end of the tale, Arcite himself hardly even knew his true intentions anymore. Palamon and Arcites conflict developed exponentially, which brought to light how true their loyalties really were. From the beginning, their loyalty to each other never seemed to have a rock solid foundation. Despite this Arcite and Palamon were depicted as very close and very loyal to one another in the story. Nevertheless I disagree with this notion that they were ever truly close, because of how quickly their relationship deteriorated. When the two had found Emily they had already been ... • 3. Diedrich Knickerbocker Essay Diedrich Knickerbocker Washington Irving created a pseudo historian for the purpose of bettering his own work and to entertain his readers. In 1809 Irving wrote A History of New York through a persona known as Diedrich Knickerbocker. This was Knickerbocker s first appearance in Irving s work, but it sure wouldn t be his last. Although he was not real, Knickerbocker was a historian that seemed to be in love with the people and landscape of the northeast, particularly New York. Even though Irving never revealed it, some of his characteristics may be found within Knickerbocker s writing. Washington Irvingwas born in New York City in 1783, he always had an appreciation of the land and people from there. Irving was quite opposed to... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Another story that was found among the papers of Diedrich Knickerbocker was The Legend of Sleepy Hollow. Both of these stories are tall tales that Irving wrote as entertainment for his readers, but he mentioned in both that these were stories told to Knickerbocker by people of Dutch origin, he made sure that the reader knew that. In both of these stories Irving describes the incredible scenery of New York, and he also describes the kindness and simplicity of the Dutch people. In Rip Van Winklehe says he happened upon a genuine Dutch family, snugly shut up in its low roofed farmhouse, under a spreading sycamoreВ… (Irving 573). He also describes a great mountain setting in New York When the weather is fair and settled, they are clothed in blue and purple, and print their bold outlines on the clear evening sky; but, sometimes, when the rest of the landscape is cloudless, they will gather a hood of gray vapors about their summits, which, in the last rays of the setting sun, will glow and light up like a crown of glory. Diedrich Knickerbocker s conception of authorship was heroic. The business of writing was a perilous enterprise, and only those who were dauntless and daring could succeed in their quest for fame. Writers were intrepid knights who courageously confronted all difficulties and hardships as they journeyed toward publication, a textual pilgrimage that required ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

They live in a different country, and he hasn t seen them in a while, that s all. Even though she has had multiple chances to talk to Dora and her parents about the war in Pakistan and the impacts it had on Mr.Pirzada, she doesn t bring up the issue or try to inform them about it. This is because Lilia didn t try to history of her motherland until she met Mr. Pirzada, thus she knows Dora won t be interested or can relate to the issue as Dora is an American. Jhumpa Lahiricritiques both modern contemporary Americans and immigrants for their ignorant, privileged life by getting the readers to view the world through the eyes of first generation Indian American, Lilia. Halloween is one of the most celebrated and the most marketed holidays in America; therefore, Americans buys costumes, decorations, and confectioneries which one can t afford in war zone countries. In Halloween, children and teenagers get dressed up in their costumes and go from house to house, walking along pathways and pressing doorbells. When the door opens, children and teenagers would scream trick or treat and they receive candies, chocolates, and other confectioneries from their neighbours. This tradition has increasingly become more popular and sensational as more people decorated their house by stringing rubber bats in windows, and turning off lights for effect. ... Yet, the application process and the do s and don t s are often convoluted on what will be best for each individual student; so students have turned to mentors that have gone through the process to aid them through. Started in 1999, the internet based forum site Student Doctor Network serves as a base for students interested in medicine, from high school through practicing physicians, to ask questions, gain multiple opinions, examine medical data and resources, and share their experience to enable the next generation of physicians. • 7. Yamashita s Tropic of Orange Essay Yamashita s Tropic of Orange This paper studies Yamashita s Tropic of Orange as a magical realist text and examines the implications for such a style on the notion of the urban. Specifically, I will explore how Yamashita uses magical realism to collapse boundaries and socially transform Los Angeles into an embattled utopia for the disenfranchised. First, however, magical realism is a loaded term and some definitions are in order. In addition to important recent innovations in the form and its purposes, magical realism is in dialogue with a longer history of writing, including the epic, chivalric traditions, Greek pastoral, medieval dream visions, romantic traditions and Gothic fictions, all of which contribute a fantastic strain to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Magical realism also functions ideologically but...less hegemonically, for its program is not centralizing but eccentric: it creates space for interactions of diversity. In magical realist texts, ontological disruption serves the purpose of political and cultural disruption: magic is often given as a cultural corrective, requiring readers to scrutinize accepted realistic conventions of causality, materiality, motivation. (3) This definition highlights the two dominant markers of the form: the use of fantasy and the counter hegemonic disruption of cultural and social realities. Fantasy can imagine justice into the reality of an unjust world, which is why it has been so useful in postcolonial contexts and has interesting possibilities for metropolitan life. Yamashita s novel fits squarely in this tradition, and I suggest she leverages the form to imaginatively transform Los Angeles from a plethora of racially, socially and economically distinct and, at times, antagonistic neighborhoods connected yet separated by freeways and bound within the borders of the U.S., to an embattled yet impossibly and transnationally interconnected utopian urbanity located literally on the freeway. Conventions of causality and materiality are regularly violated as the city physically and socially changes shape, congregating and collapsing distinct worlds, nations and cultures into one metropolis. Under the spell of magical realism, Yamashita s Los Angeles becomes a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 9. Flappers Chapter 1 Analysis 1.) In paragraph 13, the writer says that the flapper was as standardized as a chain hotel ; by what he means is that the flappers were similar almost the same to one another, much like a chain hotel. He generalizes flappers to be all the same and compares the flapper s dress to be a national product , as in something that was the same throughout the country. There is no distinction in the cut of clothing between the rich flapperand the poor flapper national advertising has attended to that. • 10. Liberal, John Ikenberry And The American Liberal World Order In Liberal Leviathan John Ikenberry argues that the American led liberal hegemonic order has reached a major shift in its authority within the liberal order. In the last two chapters of the book, Ikenberry argues that the era of unipolar hegemony for the United States is ending, and that it will eventually have to re negotiate its balance of power with other emerging states. Critics believe that the American liberal world order is no longer serving its original purpose, and is becoming a more imperial order that is beginning to disintegrate. Ikenberry also highlights that there are many states that could rival the overall hegemonyof the United States. Overall the last two chapters of the book argue that the United States needs to consider taking a new pathway so that the liberal order can accurately serve its role for the challenges ahead. Ikenberry argues that there are many dilemmas within the organization of the international world order. The liberal order is defined by its openness and its rule based order. Order is maintained in these institutions when states agree to follow the rules set by these institutions. The liberal order has sought to establish its rules in a non biased system that will not discriminate other states, so that the entire institution can agree on these regulations. However, this has raised many serious dilemmas . There seems to be concern of how the balance of power operates. Ikenberry argues that the international order has been put into place ... • 11. The Importance Of Chromosomes And Chromosomal Structure The vast majority of the scientific community is cognizant of the importance of chromosomes and chromosomal structure in cellular replication and lifespan. One of the most prominent and greatly researched discoveries of chromosomes has been the telomere and the enzyme telomerase with which telomeres interact. The term telomere refers to the caps located on the ends of chromosomes as a form of protection against chromosomal shortening and aging. Telomerase is an enzyme that aids in the lengthening of telomeres through replenishing TTAGGG ribonucleic repeats that do not code for particular amino acids and is present in high amounts exclusively in cells such as gametes or stem cells. These repeats then undergo chromosomal shortening rather than the necessary ribonucleic acid sequences of DNA. (Yuanjun et al., 2014). Telomerase itself is a highly intricate enzyme that is capable of interacting with accessory proteins, RNA templates, and the ribonucleoprotein complex of a catalytic human reverse transcriptase. The human telomerase gene commonly referred to as hTERT is responsible for activating telomerase and is further regulated by transcription factors. Copious studies have revealed that aging and other growth crises such as cancer is telomere length dependent and may be avoided through the increased expression of the hTERT gene, telomerase activity, and stabilization of telomere length. (Degerman et al., 2011). Aging is additionally avoided in cells through the negation of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 12. Artist Of Dignity At first it may be easy to side with Mencken and assume that any dignified artist cannot hold the same views as his or her country. This is an understandable belief due to the fact that almost everyone finds something unsettling or wrong with their country. Contrary to the idea that only artists who rebel are artist of dignity, a countless number of dignified artist have been those who have supported their country and society by displaying an abundance of nationalism and pride in their works. Although some artists fall into Mencken s category of rebellion, supporting his claim, there is and has been a majority of artists who have proven his claim faulty. Being an artist of dignity does not correlate with being one who rebels harshly against... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Not only paintings, but many other forms of art are used to support one s country. Artists such as Francis Scott Key, who is far from a painter, also depicted nationalistic pride through his work. He was a lawyer and poet who wrote the lyrics to the United States national anthem. This song stands as a U.S. musical symbol. Photographer Alfred Eisenstaedt is known for capturing one of America s most iconic images of a sailor kissing a nurse on V J Day in Times Square. Eisenstaedt s photo displays part of what the people of a nation at war experience when war is over. The energy and passion seen in the photograph embodies the emotion that filled the United States the day that the Japanese surrendered. One more artist who contradicts Mencken s claim is William Shakespeare. Throughout his life, he remained immensely indebted to Queen Elizabeth and King James I. Both of these royalties loved drama and theater. His A Midsummer Night s Dream was written for a special court performance for Queen Elizabeth. These are only a few individuals who prove Mencken s idea that an artist of any dignity is against his country false. Mencken s statement might hold some truth, but it is evident that not all artists of dignity have to share the same hate for their country. Many artists of many different genres can have a passion for their country that leads to their art being immortal. The irritation and hate certain artists feel is not what makes them artist of dignity. This hate is merely what motivates them. Numerous things could be a motive that an artist finds and is inspired by. Mencken seems to forget this when making his claim that it is, safe to assume that an artist of any dignity is against his ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 13. Cases of Overcoming Hardship Hardship is something everyone must overcome at some point in their lives. Everyone deals with hardships differently. It is harder for some people to recover from hardship because of their family, friends, or even because they can t find the will within themselves to deal with hardships. It would be easier for someone who is naturally determined and strong willed to overcome things because they have a inbred ability to conquer their fears and leave behind whatever it was that was making their life unbearable. If parents don t support their kids decisions, such as Jeannette going to New York, then that can make it harder to triumph over things they struggle with. If friends don t encourage someone to go on and make something better of themselves, they will hold them back and they will be stuck in the life everyone expects them to live. Many parents support their children to learn from their mistakes and make better choices than what they made when they were a kid and even now. Friends can be a huge part in trying to get over things that they are struggling from. With the right support and help from them it makes it that much easier to overcome hardships. The person struggling must find it within themselves to be a better person each day. Not everyone has the same chance of recovery, but that doesn t mean that they can t do it. They may just have to worker harder, but that means the reward will be that much better. Jeannette started from the bottom, in a small town with an ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Lesson That Help Me The Lesson That Helped Me More Than Anything A character in Norton Juster s The Phantom Tollbooth was taught a something that they didn t was valuable at the time, but later in life found that it was something that helped him. As we grow up we question a lot of the things that we are taught, like how is it going to help us in the future. For me it was treating others the way you want to be treated. To me I thought that we should treat others the way they treat us. Today I m in highschool and I can tell you that treating others the way you want to be treated rather than treating them like they treated you is very important. Abortion Should NOT Be Legal In The United States With the presidential election being over and the White House along with the Congress having a big shift from democratic control to Republican control now we the people bring up questions such as what s going to happen with gun control now, what about the affordable care act, will gay marriage stay legal, and finally what about abortion. With new laws that have come through that limit the time period in which a woman can get an abortion some people may wonder if it will stay legal much longer especially for such a strong republican government that we have right now they will not waste time trying to get as much done as I can while there is a strong republican party in the capital. With this sense of security and belonging felt throughout the community, people felt united, especially as Joan was able to mobilize them to fight For God and for France. They shared common interests and common goals in living a religious lifestyle as dictated by their religion whenever possible. In fact, one of Christopher Columbus s motives for sailing westward to India was to open up opportunities to take the Christian gospel to the heathen (Allen Allen 23). Religion also brought a new structure to households. Elders were not only parents, but they also became teachers and role models for their children (12). This became obvious in the movie Joan of Arc, where the majority of dinner conversations related to their religious beliefs, as it was important to pass on the importance and need for religion to the future generations. Unity was a very powerful tool during this time period because power came in numbers. This was obvious when Joan gathered the community and convinced the people to defend their beliefs and fight back against the English. Since the people were united in their faith, it was much easier to defend their territories and beliefs. Thus, religion had tremendous positive effects. On the other hand, this new feeling of expansion, security, hope, and unity were the constant conflicts of opposing beliefs and struggles. For instance, although there were many ... Imagined and created by Scott Bradlee, a trained jazz pianist, PMJ takes popular music from today or the recent past and remakes it in all kinds of vintage genres, from 30 s jazz, to Motown, to bluegrass hoedown. The group consists of around forty artists, many of whom are classically trained, that put out weekly videos featuring any various combination of them at a time. These videos are put up on their Youtube channel and regularly gain millions of views each. Because of their internet inception, PMJ has bypassed the existing music industryalmost entirely, and, in spite of that, has been able to remain profitable through producing music. This is unique indeed, as even artists that sign on with major label companies are often left in the red. This paper will analyze PMJ s method for achieving success outside of the traditional music industry, will look at how their music fits in the broader landscape of popular music, and will show that their approach to producing music is a good, reproducible model for other artists to follow. PMJ s rise to popularity is extremely non traditional in nature. Advantage And Advantages Of Airplanes I.INTRODUCTION Vertical Take off and Landing (VTOL) and Short Take off and Landing (STOL) flight has been one of the main interests of both the civilian and military aviation communities throughout the history of flight. In May 1951, Lockheed and Convair were awarded contracts in the attempt to design, construct, and test two experimental VTOL fighters. As a result, Lockheed produced the XFV, and Convair produced the Convair XFY Pogo, nicknamed the Pogo . Both experimental programs proceeded to flight status and completed test flights 1954 1955. Another advantage, both to operators and to nearby residents, is the large reduction in ground noise level made possible by the utilization of the steep descent and climb out capability of the VTOL aircraft. Tactical close air support VTOL airplanes can operate in close proximity to zones of action out of these same clearings, thus reducing the time required to deliver ordnance on a target, or the number of airplanes required airborne on station. Destruction of or damage to airfield runways loses significance if the aircraft utilizing the field have a VTOL capability. Consistent with weight and size limitations, each VTOL airplane is capable of shipboard operations, without the requirement for arresting hooks, catapult fittings, and the usually associated structural beef up. The Directive is clear and precise as well as unconditional. It sets out the limit percentage of the production of genetically modified food, 2%, if it is more than 2%, member states has to take all the necessary measures to eliminate it. The Directive is not too vague. There is no evidence to suggest any conditions are attached to these rights or that they are in any way ambiguous. The implementation deadline has clearly passed. Fergie s claim is against the Charlston Council which is clearly an organ of the state. This is not affected by the fact that in this case, it acts in the capacity of an employer (Marshall). Fergie s claim is therefore vertical and he can rely on the Directive and the more generous rights within it in preference to the more limited provisions of the national acts. If Fergie is not employed by a state body or public body, the answer would be different as there would be no direct effect, he cannot rely on Directive. The conditions for direct effect are not met. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Popular Examples of High Protein Diets The Zone diet, as described in The Zone by Barry Sears, Ph.D. is an example of a protein adequate diet (http://web.usatoday.com/life/health/lhs641.htm). Small meals of fruits, vegetables, monounsaturated fats, and low fat proteins are advised to be eaten throughout the day. Sources of total calorie composition outlined by this dietary plan is as follows: 40% carbohydrate, 30% fat, 30% protein. The amount of fat is dictated by the amount of protein consumed at each meal. The role of fat in this diet plan is described by Dr. Sears as follows: slows the rate of carbohydrate entry into bloodstream which reduces insulin response, releases hormone (CCK) from stomach to tell brain to stop eating, and supplies the building blocks (essential fatty acids) for eicosanoids (http: //www.users.cts.com/crash/d/dbrowndc/zonefaq.htm#Unfavorable). Therefore according to this perspective, in order for the body to burn fat and weight loss to occur, insulin must be maintained within a prescribed zone (Kirby, 1997). This high protein diet is depicted as a life long hormonal control program which allows a person to maximize full genetic potential. Through these four aspects, we can see that Hitchcock typically opts to show unsettling scenarios that can be seen as much in the intricacies of the film as in the entire premise. So, this sets the stage so that we, the audience, may know to look deeper into his films than just what is portrayed on the surface. The evolution of Hitchcock s ideas on sexuality came from his schooling and progressed throughout his film career. From looking into his schooling, I have found evidence that Hitchcock had received mixed messages. In the Jesuit school where he studied, he learned, women were at least a distraction, often a temptation, and in some cases dangerous (Hurley 219). However, he also retained many moral ideas including some awareness of sex and love as having divine origins (222). These two notions intrigued Hitchcock to begin exploring the sexual side of humanity within his films. Before he even began his career, one can see that the film that emerged during the last of his schooling became even more sexually overt (219). Through the beginning of his career, Hitchcock avoided depicting overt sexual overtones. In the 1950 s, Hitchcock clung to his themes which included, the coy sexuality (Silet). However, ... Applying An Analytical Model Of A Plane Wall Abstract To conduct a proper analysis of the 1 D transient conduction in a plane wall we must take the necessary mathematical procedures to obtain an analytical model that accurately represents the heat transfer that occurs. The equation must accurately model a plane wall that has a thickness L, is well insulated on one side, but is still vulnerable to convection on the other side. In order to complete the model, one must scale the problem in terms of both a length scale and a time scale to transform the variables to a dimensionless form that allows for a set of solutions that can be narrowed down to the simple parameter, Bi=hL/k. Introduction Mathematical Model This analysis looks into the phenomena of 1 D transient conduction in a plane wall of thickness L that is insulated on one side and subject to convection on the other. The conduction is governed by the differential heat equation: u_t=в€ ќu_xx (1) Here, u signifies the temperature of the entire body and в€ ќ signifies the thermal diffusivity. Furthermore, the differential heat equation above must respect the following boundary conditions: u_x |_(x=0)=0 ku_x |_(x=L)=h(u| T_в€ ћ) u|_(t=0)=T_i In the above boundary conditions, k represents a material property commonly referred to as thermal conductivity, whereas T_i represents the initial temperature throughout the wall. • 39. Sullivan Not only did Sullivan aesthetically use masonry in bank construction to impact modernism, but he also used elaborate ornamentation. Notably, the use of ornamentation, in the way that Sullivan grandiosely applied it, grew less and less by other architects during his time. However, Sullivan noticed the importance of savoring aesthetic ornamentation, terra cotta decorative features , in architecture and applied it to most of his buildings in varying degrees, but especially to his bank designs (Karwatka 9). In fact Dankmar Adler, Sullivan s business partner for a time, felt Sullivan displayed artistic intelligence unequaled by himself and soon delegated aesthetic matters to Sullivan because Sullivan possessed a genius ability to fus[e] technology and artistic expression (Lewis 52; Meyer 6).... One architectural critic, Thomas Tallmadge, did notice Sullivan s proper use of ornamentation in his bank designs and praised Sullivan for giv[ing] the little [bank] a gemlike quality that glows (Meyer 18). In agreement with Tallmadge, Sullivan s aesthetic brilliance in bank architecture coincided with his push for functionality because banks held the monetary treasure of society; thus, it follows suit that banks should carry a form that resembles their protection of the peoples treasure within. Therefore, ornamentation, as Sullivan used it, contributed to the modern idea of functionality. Kingdom Of Heaven Essay KINGDOM OF HEAVEN Lucas Castelo Branco HIST 2023 10/18/2017 The Kingdom of Heaven is an epic film directed and produced by Ridley Scott, and written by William Monahan, filmed in Morocco. The story of the Kingdom of Heaven is set during the Crusades of the 12th century, and is basically about the life of Balian, a French blacksmith, who defends the Kingdom of Jerusalem against the Muslims and reclaims the city from the Christians. In this story, I could travel back in time to experience life during the era of the Crusades. To better understand the Kingdom of Heaven, it is important to know what the Crusades were. Nevertheless, these expeditions influenced great transformations in the medieval world. They have weakened feudal aristocracy, strengthened royal power, and made possible the expansion of the market. Eastern civilization contributed much to European cultural enrichment, promoting intellectual development. Never again was Jerusalem dominated by Christians, but the movements on the way to the Holy Land expanded relationships with the known world at the time. The first hour of Kingdom of Heaven is decisive for the rest of the film. It is in these moments that we will meet Balian, a blacksmith who is devastated after he lost his wife who had committed suicide. It is important to say that suicide was considered to be an irredeemable sin, for example, the church believed suicide was a road to hell. Balian has no prospects in life when he receives a visit from Baron Godfrey of Ibelin. He introduces himself as Balian s father and invites him to become a knight and defend Jerusalem, ruled by King Baldwin IV, who is a leper hidden behind a mask of iron. Godfrey knows the difficult moment that Balian is going through, so he introduces him to Jerusalem (presented in the film as the new world where love exists instead of hate, a multi ethnic city, sacred to three religions, strategic gateway to the East and to the West) as a journey of redemption in which his son will redeem himself of his sins and he will save the soul of the suicidal wife. • 41. Rfid And Radio Frequency Identification 1.INTRODUCTION NFC is an extension of RFID (Radio Frequency Identification). RFID combines the interface of a smart card and a reader into a single device. NFC is a short range wireless technology that provides secured two way interaction between electronic devices. Here, the communications are established in a simple way i.e. it does not require any special set up by the users which is required for many wireless communication technologies. NFC provides users the contactless communication i.e. access digital content and connect electronic devices together with in a distance of about 4 to 5 centimeters. As no physical connections are required for near field communication, the connection becomes more reliable. NFC allows users to share the content or the data between two electronic devices, pay bills wirelessly or even use their cell phone as an electronic travelling ticket on existing contactless infrastructure which is already in use for public transportations. The significant advantage over NFC is the shorter set up time. For Bluetooth we need to set up manual configurations, instead of that the connection between NFC devices can be established at once and quickly. NFC, due to its shorter range provides a higher security than Bluetooth. Thus it makes NFC suitable for crowded areas where correlating a signal with its transmitting physical device might otherwise prove impossible. 1.1 Evolution of NFC: Sony and Philips have taken the lead and developed the technology. • 42. School Culture Reflection Paper Perhaps positive school culture was another area I presumed as a given. When referencing the ELCC standard 2.0 I feel confident in my contributions and leadership skills developed throughout my tenure at York Suburban and refined through this internship experience. Again the big ah ha in this arena was actually identifying what I was seeing be played out. The Pennsylvania Department of Educationclearly defines the concept of missions, vision and values (See Appendix A for Concepts of Mission, Vision and Values) and York Suburban has a highly visible mission statement. We have this mission statement posted in all classrooms including kindergarten classes where students can not quite read them yet. I don t think many people in the general public can see the true value in schoolculture, but appreciate when it is positive. Our district boasts a clear mission and vision and shared values are communicated through a newly adopted tag line: A Community of Encouragement, A Culture of Excellence. Because climate and culture are so closely related I like to make the analogy that climate is the talk of a building and culture is the walk. Often there is a positive climate, but the culture is lagging. When leadership has a strong vision for both climate and culture, then the building as a whole is talking the talk and walking the walk. I continue to view climate and culture through two lenses, and understand that the lines are often blurred between the two. In open schools where climate and culture are strong, new leadership is tasked with getting a pulse on the existing situation, but with some explicit details as to enable the continuation of both. New leadership in a building with a less than positive climate and culture is tasked with identifying the missing elements and diligently establishing a vision to begin to develop a positive and effective open school. Both new leaders will need time. Both situations require a process. Knowing the importance of all these pieces to the puzzle will enable me to either model what I ve observed, or maintain depending on weather I am a principal in a district similar to mine or very different. It will be a challenge for me to keep the process slow and steady if much ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

For me, it was one of the most successful deals in the last years because it is preventing Iran from building nuclear weapons and provide improved transparency. Which means that under a nuclear agreement, Iran has the obligation to permit the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) to conduct a deep inspection on Iran s nuclear facilities if IAEA requests to do so. However, If Iran violates the agreement, it will severely punish and all sanctions will come back and Iran aliens will not be able to reverse the situation or block the sanction applied to Iran such as economic, political and others that can break the Iran economy. • 46. Judgement Day, Or The Judgement A huge concern for most people, Christ follower or not, is the question of what happens in the end? What happens when humans die? It is a question that many people do not want to discuss because it brings up fear. Regardless of what people believe, all humankind will be judged in the end. Judgement Day, or the Judgement, is something that will happen in end times where God has selected a day to judge the world in righteousness. All people who have lived upon the earth, including fallen angels, will stand before Christ and give an account for his or her actions, thoughts, and words. The Judgment will be discussed in order to describe how it has been interpreted and studied as well as why it is important in life today. In order for one to believe that there will be a final judgement, one must have a specific worldview. One must believe that there is a God. This does not necessarily mean they are Christian as a person can believe in a God without actually following Him. One must believe in the Bible and that it is the inerrant word of God. One must also believe in Heaven and Hell and a basic belief in Eschatology. Eschatology comes from a Greek word eschados which means last and logia which means the study of . In religious terms, he writes about how the original sin meant humanity is forever wounded. This means we can distinguish right from wrong, but we will inevitably falter. Many people believe that testing on nonhuman animals solve the many issues that humans face, but most of the time animals are exploited and put through painful experimental processes. The purpose of this paper is to examine the possible alternatives to animal testingand the evaluate whether there is a reduction in animals being used for experiments. People on the verge of retiring are worse off than those who retired a decade earlier due to the rising cost of purchasing an annual flow of future income in most jurisdictions around the world. According to Glenn Stevens, governor of Reserve Bank in Australia, the global retirement income system is under a lot of pressure, and the problem must be acute in Europe, where sovereign yields in some countries are negative for significant durations. Mr. Steven s went on to say, How will an adequate flow of income be generated for the retired community in the future, in a world in which long term nominal returns on low risk assets are so low? According to Mr. Stevens, they have to accept a lot more risk to generate the expected flow of future income they want, he warned. So, in a world in which long term yields on low risk assets (i.e., bonds) are so low, what s a retiree to do? Pension systems vary across countries, and there s no single model for all. The pension landscape is changing In OECD countries. Recent reforms are changing the way pension savings are distributed.
