Politics And Religion By Gerard Hauser
Politics and religion have long been entangled in the United States. The United States has struggled
with the question of how to maintain an appropriate combination of religion and politics in the public
sphere for a long time. Gerard Hauser argues that public spheres are discursive spaces where society
deliberates about normative standards and even develops new frameworks for expressing and
evaluating social reality . Religion is part of the public sphere and has an influence in American
political life in affairs such as leadership, legislation and voter partisanship. Religious rhetoric plays
an important role in defining the boundaries of the political community and in setting the tone for
political discourse. American democracy owes its birth to the influence of a specific form of
Christianity: English Puritanism. The Pilgrims, laid the essential groundwork for America s
experiment in self government. Religion was in fact the primary reason for the northern settler s
immigration to the New World. These settlers known as Pilgrims because their journey had a religious
purpose . They sought to build Puritan communities, to live in America in their manner and pray to
God in freedom . The Pilgrims came to establish religious communities, but their beliefs called for
such communities to be instituted and administered by the consent of the governed. (Holloway,
Carson) As time went by, they began to constitute and frame laws, ordinances, acts and constitutions.

Fuel Consumption Reduction Of Automobile Development
1.1 INTRODUCTION
Not only to save energy but also to protect the global environment, fuel consumption reduction is
main concern of automobile development. In development of vehicle body, it is essential to reduce
drag for improving fuel consumption and driving performance. An aerodynamically purified body is
not only aesthetically attractive but also it will help much to increase the vehicles appeal to the
customer [1].
If a body of arbitrary shape, immerged in a large stationary mass of fluid is moved with constant
velocity through the fluid, the body exerts a force to the fluid, which opposes the motion of the body
[4]. Also the fluid exerts a force to the body as every action have equal and opposite direction. The
force exerts on the body or the fluid results from the relative motion between the emerged body and its
surroundings fluid. As such it makes no difference in the magnitude of the force whether the body
through the stationary fluid or the fluid flows about the immerged body which is at rest [5]. In general,
vehicles are known to be aerodynamically insufficient compare to other ground vehicles due to their
large frontal areas and bluff body shapes. The insufficient aerodynamic shape results in excessive drag
which leads to elevated fuel consumption rate [3]. A streamlined shape of vehicle is very important in
reducing fuel demand by up to 7%. Vehicles with an aerodynamic shape use less fuel. Air flows easily
over them and less energy is needed to

Analysis of “Where Does the Temple Begin. Where Does It...
Sultan Qaboos University Language Centre FPEL EEAL0560 Poetry Project File Analysis of Where
Does the Temple Begin. Where does it end? by Mary Oliver [pic] Name: Eman Amer Salim AL amri .
ID Number:102400. Section: 350 . Submitted to : Nicholas Hilmers. Where Does the Temple Begin,
Where Does It End? There are things you can t reach. But you can reach out to them, and all day long.
The wind, the bird flying away. The idea of God. And it can keep you as busy as anything else, and

In line 6 the writer gives us an image in the phrase the snake slides away. Here the writer describes the
wonderful movement of a snake that can make you carious to know how it is created. Furthermore in
the same line the speaker give us a simile when she describes the jumping of a fish like a little lily
which is type of plant that grows from a bulb and that has large white or coloured flowers .( Oxford
dictionary 2006)The writer also gives us another great image of nature :The gold finches sing from the
unreachable top of the tree . Here unreachable top of the tree is connected to the first line of the poem
where there are things you can t reach even if you want to like the gold finches who sing from a far
place. In line 7 the writer invites us to look at nature by saying I look and then saying morning to night
where she means she looks at nature all day long without feeling bored or done with looking. In line 8
the writer tells us that in line 7 when she said looking she didn t mean just standing around in nature,
but standing around as though with your arms open .Here I think the writer means that your mind
should be open and think about what god created .In line 9 the poet extends this idea by saying that
when you stand around with your mind open and working, maybe something will come to you, for
example, a shining coil of wind. Maybe she means some air which will give you an energetic spirit.

The Existence Of Antiheros In Don Draper s
The antihero phenomenon in television is one that has proven to spark a successful movement,
confirming it has the potential for a large, loyal audience base. Aristotle and philosopher, David
Hume, have been proven wrong, stating their belief that the antihero model would never succeed.
David Hume claimed these antiheros or in his terms, rough heroes would be unsuccessful because we
are displeased to find the limits of vice and virtue so much confounded and we are not able to bear an
affection for characters we plainly discover to be blameable. So why do so many serial narratives
centered on antiheros exist and why are audiences so attached to these types of characters? Antiheros
consists of television s most layered and intricate ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The audience needs to be invested in the emotional fate of that character. A driving factor that is an
essential component in creating a successful antihero character is the possibility of redemption. For
Walter White, Don Draper, and Tony Soprano the realization of their self deception is the key to the
possibility of their redemption: Walter White believes everything he is doing is justified by securing
his family s financial future, Don Draper can t admit his stolen identity, and Tony Soprano cannot be
honest about the nature of his lifestyle. For each of these characters at a level they understand their
self deception but at the same time they can t stand to admit what they ve become. However, the
audience hopes one day they will admit what they ve become and they ll redeem themselves. We have
hope Walter White and Tony Soprano will eventually get out of their lifestyle. We want Don Draper to
admit his identity. Although Dexter is aware of his deception, he still experiences an unease with
himself and with the relationships he has with others. There is a slight understanding that Dexter is
aware of the wrongfulness in his lifestyle that drives the audience to hope that maybe he ll stop killing
one day to protect those that he

Difference Between The Aeneid And The Iliad
Regardless of the time frame, Virgil s Aeneid and Homer s epic the Iliad share both a copious amount
of similarities and differences. For example, many common themes such as heroism, fate, and destiny
are apparent in both works. Within the Aeneid and the Iliad, it is seen that the wars going on during
that time were glorious that is why the role of gods were significant in leading both Aeneas and
Achilles and influencing fate. In both texts, it is clear from the beginning that the role of the gods is to
make Aeneas and Achilles fulfill their journey The Iliad focuses on the end of the Trojan War and the
damaging power, while the Aeneid is focused during the aftermath of the war and underlies the
foundation for the new civilization. This paper will address and argue the comparison of the role of
gods and how each of the authors representation of the gods have influence on the lives of mortals. In
both the Aeneid and the Iliad their main characters were chosen by gods because they have gained
favor. Aeneas and Achilles were chosen because they were destined to fulfill a journey. The gods in
both works directed the lives of mortals, but, were also very specific on who they would help. The
gods determined the destiny of the mortals. Achilles and Aeneas are similar in the sense that they have
become favorable in the eyes of the gods, partially because of their divine nepotism but also because
they stand out from ordinary men by having a great military and physical prowess.

Cicero And Obama Similarities
Marcus Tullius Cicero was a powerful politician in Ancient Rome. He was revered and respected by
many, and he also had a unique quality to him: he was a novus homo , a man who was new to the
Roman political scene and did not have any ancestors that took part in it. He is still renowned today as
one of the most prominent orators of Ancient Rome, not unlike many US Presidents of our modern
world. Despite his status as a novus homo, however, his speeches are more similar to those of John F.
Kennedy, a man from a long line of politicians, than with those of politicians such as Barack Obama,
who never was involved with his father s political work in Kenya. Textual evidence shows that Cicero
s speeches and strategies align much more closely with ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Though Cicero put more trust in his colleagues while Obama extended that trust to his citizens, both
men acknowledge that their achievements were not doable without help from others. This is seen in
Cicero s speech when he thanks and credits Lucius Flaccus and Gaius Pomptinus, who were the
praetors of the republic who helped expose Catiline and his allies. Cicero speaks highly of them: Illi
autem, qui omnia de re publica praeclara atque egregia sentirent, sine recusatione ac sine ulla mora
negotium susceperunt...[.] He praises them, stating that they immediately rushed to help him expose
the conspirators. Obama made many similar statements as president, but one rises above the others:
his speech when awarding his Vice President, Joe Biden, the medal of freedom. In it, he says about
Biden that he ...Just wanted to get some folks together to pay tribute to somebody who s not only been
by my side for the duration of this amazing journey. But somebody who has devoted his entire
professional life to service to this country. He goes on to list his accomplishments and how he helped
Obama during his presidency. Though Cicero and the praetors were likely not as close as Obama and
Biden, the credit given where credit is due is frankly surprising coming from Cicero, who spends
much of his speeches focusing on his own

Jim Sardonis Reverence Analysis
The sculpture that caught my eye the most for this assignment is called Reverence by Jim Sardonis.
This piece of artwork is a three dimensional assemblage sculpture. It is made of pieces of granite
which is an igneous rock. It was put together piece by piece which required special tools and
equipment and also a lot of space to work. It is an in the round sculpture, which means the whole thing
cannot be photographed in one photo and there are many different views of it depending on where you
are standing. This is a beautiful sculpture that has many meaning to it. It depicts two whales tails as
they appear to be diving into a field of grass. The grass represents the ocean. First of all, it puts the
viewer in awe of one of the largest animals ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Sardonis made this art to show the world that we, as a whole, have a great effect on the living
creatures in this world, no matter how big or how small. We should have much more respect towards
animals that live in our oceans. The whales tails in the sculpture are about 12 feet long. I assume they
would look very large in person but they are nowhere near the size of a realistic whale s tail. I think
seeing the big tails in person would make people realize little things can and should be prevented so
we don t destroy the habitats and homes of underwater creatures like these huge whales. Whenever
humans let unnatural substances into the water, (example: oil spills) it causes pollution which is
leading to the extinction of whales. This sculpture is making people notice the beauty of these
humongous whales in hopes of making us more cautious in what we do in our everyday lives to
preserve the lives of these mammals. It will be our fault when the species of whales are extinct.
Humans continue to pollute oceans everyday by putting our dirty, untreated sewage water straight into
the water where these animals live. This is causing the population of whales and other animals in the
ocean to die down

Questions On The Tax Avoidance Essay
2.2 Tax Avoidance
2.2.1 Issue
The second step of subpart BG 1 is to ascertain the tax avoidance action and the Parliamentary
contemplation test which sourced from the Ben Nevis case and established by the Supreme Court is
used as the main text to determine whether the tax avoidance occurs in an arrangement. According to
the state in the case of Ben Nevis, the emphasis in the arrangement is the way of using provisions
whether it complies with the parliament s purpose by through a commercially and economically
realistic way. Therefore, for the Parliamentary contemplation test, there are two main aspects should
be considered which are the parliament s purpose for the relevant provisions and the commercial
reality and economic effects of the arrangement.

The Energy Of Solar Energy
The U.S. Energy Future is one of the most talked about subjects in science. There are many different
types of alternative energy to using fossil fuels. Scientists have warned the population that the fossil
fuels that we current use for our main fuel source may run out in less than 100 years (James Trefil
Robert Hazen, 2013). While the fossil fuels are readily available to our current generations, we need to
start making great results in switching our main energy source to more renewable energy for our
future generations. I have researched a few of the most popular alternative energy sources for the U.S.
future.
One area of US Energy Future that has been in place for some time now is Solar Energy. Solar energy
was first developed in 1954 by Daryle Chapin, Gerald Pearson and Calvin Fuller in the form of silicon
photovoltaic cells. In 1958 the solar energy field took off. The Vanguard 1 weather satellite used solar
power to power the radios and other equipment on the spacecraft. After the successful 1 year mission
using the solar power, the Lunar Lander, Mars Viking Mission, Hubble Telescope and the Space
Shuttle all used solar power on their crafts (OSU Test Report, 2015). Some of the problems with solar
energy were the high cost of development and the amount of land that was needed for the solar fields
to be used and where to store the energy. One another problem was the weather being unpredictable.
The lack of sunlight would lower the amount of solar

Modernization Theory And The Theories Of Modernization Theory
DEVELOPMENT THEORIES
STUDENT NUMBER ; 1008455
Modernization theory represents the mixture of sociology theories within societies. It mainly reflects
the traditional views of society and highlight the internal factors of a country and development
(Bernstein, 1971). From the 18th century, it englight the individual ideas of modernism the civilians

standards of living with the concept of functionalism, which focuses on interdependence (Tétreault

Dependency theory was arose in the response of modernization that where wealthy states are growing
quickly, on the other hand underdeveloped states still need some progress in the society (Seers, 1981).
Therefore, dependency theory brought a new concept to provide basic needs of poor nations such as
labor, markets, natural resources, etc.
Researcher highlighted, modernization has been the most dominant theory in societies and political
sector (Mihalache, 2007). Modernization theory faces criticism in the shape of dependency theory
because of the underdeveloped states were suffering and modernization theorist was focusing on the
development literature by neglecting the poor nations (Seers, 1981). The primary function of

What Is The Controversy Of Huckleberry Finn
Some literary critics agree with Ernest Hemingway that all modern American literature comes from
one book by Mark Twain called Huckleberry Finn... it s the best book we ve had. All American writing
comes from that. There was nothing before. There has been nothing as good since, (Hemingway).
While others feel that The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn does not belong in the literary canon and
that it is itself literally incoherent (Jehlen). Unquestionably, it is now one of the most often debated
major work in American literature (Fertig). Although The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn has caused
several controversies, one major debate is whether if it is racist or not.

she does not know is Tom, she does not hesitate to having him over and excitingly states, why, I do

than others have, they still treat him fit to their beliefs and keep him locked up in a shed since they
believe that it is right to own him as their property because the color of his skin makes him worth less
than a white person. The Phelpses are depicted as good, big hearted people even if they embrace the
South s institution of slavery. Tom Sawyer is actually harsher than the Phelpses, and decides to help

businesses are run by multiple owners, so personal liability is divided. Here are the general

One of most common choice of business entity is Limited Liability Company. There is no limited on
the numbers of shareholders. Owners of an LLC are called members. Most states do not restrict

There is no maximum number of members. Most states also permit single member LLCs, those having

Freeway 280 Analysis
Family and heritage are very important aspects to human life. To begin, this is what is addressed in the
poems, Freeway 280, by Lorna Dee Cervantes and Simon Ortiz s, Hunger in New York City. Both
poems share a great amount of similarities like the way they address the importance of family and
heritage and the message of both poems. They address the importance of family and heritage by using
objects or feelings, metaphorically, to express their family or heritage. Not only that, but both poems
share the message that a person s past stays with them no matter where or how far they go. Ultimately,
both poems address the importance of family and heritage the same way and also share the same
message.

She talks about how a freeway now covers a spot where little houses used to exist near the gray

been covered, but she remembers that when she used to live in this area, she wanted to leave. She
wanted to find a place that was different from where she lived, but a part of her wants to relive her
childhood. The author states, Maybe it s here en los camps extraños de esta ciudad where I ll find it,
that part of me mown under like a corpse or a loose seed (Cervantes, 20 25). The author wants to
remember all the good times she had during her childhood home. She remembers how important her
family was to her. On the other hand, Hunger in New York City, uses hunger as a way to show the
importance of family and heritage. Simon Ortiz talks that hunger can come from anywhere or from
anything. In this case, he uses hunger in place of his parents. After moving to New York City, the

in response to an individual s achievement. In the film, status in society is gained as a reward for
winning the Little Miss Sunshine beauty pageant. A meritocracy society is also witnessed through
Olive s father, Richard s nine step program, refuse to lose , which claims to create winners . In the

Speech On Single Mom
Shes a single mom so what?
Last week I walked inside a medical office for an interview and listened as a nurse said to a women,
Oh so you re a single mom . The way she said it you could tell she wasn t asking she was more like oh
so your one of those. I never understand the why people minds go afar when speaking about single
mothers. This women goes on to ask did the father just up and leave when he found out she was
pregnant. Looking in the face of that single mother face you can tell she was young and also a little
uncomfortable. I started thinking there are more than one way she could have be considered a single
mother. This women boyfriend/ husband could be deceased, she could have chosen to me a single
mother, or she is going through a divorce either way saying she s a single mom is not a bad thing.
A few minutes after the women walked away the same who called my name to come in the back. I
walked and I listened as she talked about her husband and kids then asked me if I had any. I answered
her with a simple yes and wanted to drop it. Instead I was asked about my kid and id I was married
while making small talk waiting for two other people. She looks at my ring on my hand and went on
to say how she doesn t understand single mothers and why they would want that life for their kids. I
then start giving her my two cents in the matter, I told her how more than 57% of families are single
mother homes. If this women was like my aunt her husband died in Iraq before her two son s where
even born. Out of that 57% of women only 10% get pregnant knowing they will be single mothers.
She looked at me like I had said something wrong but to me I was saying everything right.
Then I spoke on how that 10% of women have kids because they know they will be great at being a
parent with or without a partner. From what I read in my classes most women over the age of 30 get
pregnant to be single mothers, there are even support groups to help them. That make this chose and
they look at all the options they have. They can t adopt a kids a single woman trying to adopt a kid
look s bad on paper. So they take the option to have the baby by themselves paying up to 100 thousand
dollars to even conceive a baby. She looked at me when

Playstation 4 Vs Xbox One

Presentation And Presentation Of Presentations
The way in which presentations are developed is important; presentations can be slideshows, practical
demonstrations, training etc. When developing presentations, you need to ensure that you prepare;
define the purpose and the objective that you want to get across to the audience so you know what you
are aiming for and the research that needs to be undertaken prior to the presentation to ensure that this
is achieved. Knowing what media, format and content is the most appropriate and would be the most
effective is important as it can help in the process of planning and also the audience that you need to
base your presentation around as some presentation types may be more beneficial to them than others.

If the presentation is to be held externally and not within the internal buildings then you would be
required to liaise with the stakeholders; venue size and capacity would need to be considered.
When developing a presentation there are many factors that need to be taken into account. When
preparing it is important that you establish a purpose so you can plan what you want to get across to
the audience and set objectives for yourself to work towards; what you intend the outcome to be from
the presentation for example, as that way you can then review yourself on how you feel you done
afterwards from what you achieved. You will need to assess whether or not the audience of your
presentation will need prior knowledge of the topic and depending on who you are presenting to; how
you can win them over with your presentation and what tactics would work best for them particular
people. The venue in which you are presenting in is important; you will need to ensure that the
location of the venue is easily accessible for all attending and the arrangements of the room/seating is
appropriate and will give across an atmosphere that you want; the size of the venue will affect this.
The venue will also need to have the resources required for the audio and visual aspects of the
presentation; speakers, projector

The Outrageousness of The Battle of Little Bighorn
The Battle of Little Bighorn is considered to be one of the biggest blunders in American military
history. It is also believed to be one of the most unfair decisions made by the military because of the
fact that it was extremely discriminatory to the Native Americans that lived in the region of the Black
Hills in South Dakota. The rights of Native Americans has been an ongoing issue ever since the
pilgrims started making their settlements on Indian land. Indians had finally had enough of the
Americans taking their land and in June of 1876, a bloody battle took place that would never be
forgotten.
Before the battle was even thought of, the Lakota Sioux and the Cheyenne Native Americans were
outraged that the new settlers were starting to violate their sacred lands. They lived in and around the
Black Hills in South Dakota and near Montana. They were native to that land and believed it was their
birthright. They didn t want it for the gold or precious minerals in the mountains. Their ancestors had
lived there in generations before and they wanted their children to live there for generations to
come. The Sioux had signed a treaty with the American government saying that their sacred grounds in
the Black Hills would be respected, which they were, up until gold was found in the area and
American citizens flocked to the sacred lands of the Indians to strike it rich in the Black Hills.
Although the treaty had promised them rights to the lands, the U.S. government ordered the Native

The Average And Robert Frost s The Road Not Taken
W.H. Auden s The Average and Robert Frost s The Road Not Taken mutually explore fate and how
decisions affect it. Auden considers this through a young man s journey towards the future while Frost
conveys it through a reflection on a past choice. The parents of Auden s protagonist metaphorically
killed themselves with toil granting him the opportunity to seek a profession that symbolically
encourages shallow breathing placing pressure on the speaker to ensure their efforts were not futile. In
contrast, Frost s character chose his path long ago and visualises his decision through a metaphorical
branching forest route with two possible options, despite looking down one as far as [he] could

Sharon Olds Sex Without Love
Sharon Olds poem Sex without Love is a poem about the way one individual feels about having sex
without love. The speaker in the poem has a difficulty understanding why two people would want to
have sex without being in love. In the first two lines of the poem, the speaker says, how do they do,
the ones who make love / without love (Olds). The speaker seems to be questioning as to how people
have sex without love as though that wasn t something that could happen. There are different literary
elements that Olds uses throughout her poem to help us better understand how the speaker feels. These
elements help us to gain insight that the speaker feels that people should not have emotionless and
meaningless sex but should strive to find someone ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In lines 4 8, the speaker says, fingers hooked / inside each other s bodies, faces / red as steak, wine,
wet as the / children at birth whose mothers are going to / give them away. The speaker is comparing
the two lovers to nothing but a piece of meat. The comparison is more or less showing us how sex
without love really feels. It is also saying that sex without love is emotionless and only requires the
partner s presence. Towards the end of the quote, the speaker is also comparing having sex without
love to a mother who has just given birth and choses to give her baby up. This could be one of the
repercussions of having sex without love. Sharon Olds uses another simile later on in the poem that
gives us another insight on how to speaker feels. The speaker goes on to say, just factors, like the
partner / in the bed, and not the truth, which is the / single body alone in the universe / against its own
best time (Olds). This comparison goes on to say that even though there isn t any love between the
two lovers, there is still pleasure in the act even if it is meaningless. This quote is also saying that even
though there is someone else in the bed with you, you are still alone. In the end, all that you will be
left with is yourself and there will never be that intimate connection that you get while having sex

The Dangers Of Secondhand Smoking
We have laws that protect minors from physical abuse, but isn t the damage from secondhand smoking
also considered physical abuse?
Secondhand smoke is the combination of the smoke exhaled by smokers and the burning end of a
cigarette. This smoke is dangerous for children and should not be used in the car with children.
Why is Secondhand Smoking Bad for Children?
Secondhand smoking cause many defects for children as they grow up. As parents of young children
smoke in the car, these children are exposed to this secondhand smoke frequently. According to
Centers of Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), Secondhand smoke causes numerous health
problems in infants and children, including more frequent and severe asthma attacks, respiratory
infections, ear infection, and sudden infant death syndrome (SIDS). As these children group up, the
health problems resulting from the secondhand smoke exposure affects their lifestyle and future.
Children do not deserve to be exposed to such toxic things so young. They are innocent victims to
their parents bad habit and life choices. Children are vulnerable and clearly do not know what these
chemicals do to their bodies so they are defenseless against the dangers of secondhand smoke. Centers
of Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) also states, Secondhand smoke contains more than 7,000
chemicals, hundreds are toxic and about 70 are known to cause cancer. I believe that it is not okay to
for parents to think that exposing children to secondhand smoke is not a problem. This mentality that
there is not a problem is the problem with secondhand smoking. I am not asking parents to stop
smoking just to take is outside away from childrens developing bodies.
Secondhand smoke is dangerous to all passengers in the car. The Americans for Nonsmokers Rights
(ANR) argues, Exposing passengers, both children and adults, to secondhand smoke in the confined
space of a car is extremely hazardous. This hazard is something that can be avoided, if laws are passed
to make smoking with children in the car illegal.
A study found on Rabbit Air website preformed by UK researchers found levels of fine particulate
matter were measured from the rear passenger seat of cars of over a dozen

The Pros And Cons Of The Pharmaceutical Industry
Nowadays it seems like legal drugs are more expensive than illegal ones. This dilemma occurs
because the pharmaceutical industry affects the economy significantly. Although the United States is a
mixed market economy, there are instances where the economy seems like a free market economy. A
free market economy allows companies to determine the prices of goods free from government
intervention. The pharmaceutical industry, despite several regulations set by the Food and Drug
Administration (FDA), is a free market economy. Meaning, the pharmaceutical sector lacks
government regulation and has control over the prices of specialty drugs desperately needed by the
public. Therefore, the pharmaceutical industry being a free market negatively affects ... Show more

According to Paul Antony, DTCA aids consumers because it helps them recognize symptoms and their
increases communication between doctors and patients. He states that consumers that advertisements
empower them to seek out their doctor (para 3,10). However, advertisements are often emotional and
misleading. This type of advertisements causes patients to urge their doctors to prescribe them a
specialty drug because they notice they have a symptom. Doctors then would have to comply which
can end up being more harmful to the patient. Another argument is that pharmaceuticals make little
profit because new drugs cost so much to develop. Derek Lowe, a chemist, states that Expenses [are]
doing nothing but rising, and the success rate for drug discovery [is] going in the other direction (para
5). By his quote, Lowe means that the development of a drug outweighs the cost of the drug, resulting
in little profit. However, this case is on drugs that failed in the market. Drugs that are long past
development have the prices gouged for more profit. Therefore the government should regulate the
pharmaceutical industry because the industry is harmful towards the economy and patients. The
government can achieve this by enabling a cap on prices of specialty drugs and ensuring DCTA is not

Abbreviations, acronyms and emoticons have all been put into use through billions of text messages.
The one hundred and sixty character limit has meant that proper spelling and grammar has to give way
to a more practical form of communicating. Daily Mail columnist John Humphrys in his article I H8
txt messages: How English is ruing our language thinks that people who text are doing what Genghis

the same in fact or in spirit.... (Hitchings 2011 p 296) as people who text know the difference between
writing for schoolwork and writing for their friends (p. 296). Although mobile messaging may be
crude compared to the more civilised form of English, it still has some benefits. For example the
asterisk symbol has been used as a way of correcting mistakes (Collister 2015). It is a way to avoid a
conversational detour. (Collister 2015). People can use the asterisk symbol instead of wasting precious
time trying to fix their mistake. The asterisk symbol, adopted by the technologically minded (Collister
2015), is a great and quick way of fixing mistakes but still maintaining that flow of conversation. An
emoticon can also help to ...add meaning to a message or express meaning all on their own. (Collister
2015). People can use emoticons to express a range of emotions from happiness to anger and people
will be able to understand what they mean. The invention of mobile phones, through the use of
symbols and emoticons to express emotions or fix mistakes, have helped language to evolve, and
thereby improving writing and reading skills through the promotion of flexibility, by ensuring that not

How Did The Silk Road Affect Long Distance Trade
The Silk Road:
The Silk Road was a road used for long distance trade between countries in central Asia. As the cities
grew and flourished, long distance travel was used to share customs with other places, and trade
goods. While traveling, General Zhang discovered new plants and trees, and then introduced them to
China, so that they could adopt them and use them for their own use, and also for trade. China also
adopted a lot more crops, and put the products they received from trading to good use. Trading had a
major impact to all the countries involved in the Silk Road, especially China.

There was a lot of silver work and silk fabrics that were produced in the Sasanid Empire in Iran, and
the empire also had organized communities that were protecting long distance trade. The Sasanid

Technological Surveillance Should Not Keep Up With The...
Technological surveillance is used in a wide field of areas from wiretapping, hacking, bugging,

surveillance creates a particularly dramatic threat to the privacy of individual citizens (p. 354),
although this is uncertain to the government if it is indeed goes against citizen s privacy. Technology
advances so quickly, that the law cannot keep up with the swift changes. The first issue involving
technological surveillance was in the case Olmstead v. United States (1928), when officer s

In the case Silverman v. United States (1961) a search warrant was required because the officers

Katz v. United States (1967) where agents attached a recorded device to a phone booth in order to hear
a conversation. The question of privacy came up when they attached the device to the phone booth,
although it was not Katz property, it was the fact that a phone booth is used and designed for privacy,
so this case would require a warrant and they courts, excluded the conversations thereby obtained, in
the process overturning Olmstead and rejecting the trespass doctrine. Because the government action
violated the privacy upon which Katz justifiably relied while using the telephone booth (p. 357)
therefore the bugging went against the Fourth Amendment. There has to be a fine line on which
devices protect our Fourth Amendment rights and how are they being determined. Well in the case
Berger v. New York (1967) it notified the states that statutes authorizing eavesdropping under court
order would, at the least, have to comply with traditional Fourth Amendment search warrant
requirement (p. 358). Due to Berger and Katz, congress congress passed Title III of the Omnibus

The Declaration Of The Rights Of Woman And The Female Citizen
The Declaration of the Rights of Woman and the Female Citizen was written in the late 1700 s. This
document is important because it shows how women are just as equal as men are. It states that,
Woman is born free and lives equal to man in her rights. Social distinctions can be based only on the
common utility (Traditions and Encounters 640). Women have always played a significant role during
crises. Almost all the times they were devaluated and history did not dedicate them many pages to
point out their contribution and its positive or negative effects. Olympe de Gouges wrote this
document. She was a butcher s daughter who directly challenged women s inferiority to men. This
woman was charged with treason and then hanged on November 3, 1793 for fighting for women s
rights. The document states ten articles that give good examples of why women should have equal
rights as men and should also be considered a citizen. The ten articles listed are Article 2, Article 3,
Article 4, Article 6, Article 7, Article 11, Article 13, Article 14, and Article 17. Some important articles

Review Of Polychronicity And Scheduling
Some of the problems DSI have experience are basic problems. The company was run by doctors and
they assumed the salespeople could manage without a manager. Before their sales manager,
salespeople were selling to the same companies and infringing on each other territory. There were not
any territorial alignments. This caused salespeople to be unorganized and they were not efficient with
their time (Johnston Marshall, 2010).
In the article Polychronicity and Scheduling s Role in Reducing Role Stress and Enhancing Sales
Performance the writers talk about stress and the role it plays on an employee that is in sales. The
writer suggests it is important to hire someone that is the right fir for the job. One important fact the
writers talk about is planning and maximizing one s time. When an employee does not maximize his
time, it creates stress and stress can cause an employee to be ineffective. The article puts emphasis on
time scheduling and it can be defines as planning and allocating time. DSI s problems are time and
planning issues which were described in the article. The article talked about the organizations conduct
a job analysis, create job qualifications, and develop a job description. This will help the company to
hire qualified salespeople that will help drive the business (Fournier, Weeks, Blocker, Chonko, 2013).

The Importance Of Maintaining The Correct Acid Base Balance
The importance of maintain the correct acid base balance in the body is crucial for a healthy lifestyle.
Human bodies are very sensitive to pH levels and must be maintained to prevent any health issues.
The term pH means potentials oh hydrogen. To function properly our blood pH is regulated at 7.4. The
degree of acidity or alkalinity is referred to as the acid base balance. The acidity levels increase when
the acidic compounds in the blood increase of the alkaline compounds in the blood fall. Alkalinity
increases when the reverse occurs. The levels of alkaline and acidic compounds depend on the body s
intake, production or decreased elimination or vice versa. If the pH rises or falls increasingly the body
s proteins and enzymes can denature and stop functioning. This can cause serious diseases such as
cancers or even death. Therefore, our body has essential mechanisms in place to regulate the pH of our
blood.
Regulating acid base balance:
The main functions of the body that deal with maintaining acid base balance are the buffer, renal and
respiratory systems.
Buffer System:
Normal metabolism produces hydrogen in the form of acids; to maintain the pH of the blood the acids
are buffered or removed from the body. A buffer works in a pair, a weak acid is activated when the pH
is at risk from a strong base/ a weak base is activated when the pH is at risk from a strong acid.

Shakespeare is one of the most famous play writers known to man, one of his many plays What Ado

the mood.
To begin, the classical version uses the many sound techniques to create mood. In the play during the
party scene, joyful music starts up and everybody in the play dances. This supports that the sound
gives mood because this is the point where you are joyful because of the party.

The amygdala is an almond shaped region that is key to the normal expression of emotions, specially
fear. Brian imaging studies see high activity in the amygdala when subjects experience anxiety, stress
of phobias. The vmPFC can be thought of a s a higher part of the brain, involved in less well defined
activities such as emptional processing and decision making. The hippocampus is a larger region that
is very simply, involved in memory.
Brain imaging studies of PTSD sufferers shows two things, it reduces activity in the vmPFC and
increased activity in the amygdala. The long studies showed that in PTSD the vmPFC is sleep at the
wheel, allowing the amygdala to go unchecked that more likely produces many of the intense anxiety
symptoms that make it the key feature of PTSD. There are marked differences in pathways, hormone
and glucocorticoid levels and atrophy of the hippocampus is common. The pathologic development of
PTSD only occurs if the response leading to resolution of the trauma is disrupted in some way.

Essay on The Physics of a Toilet
The Physics of a Toilet
Almost everyone in America has used, is using at this very moment or will use a flushable, indoor
toilet. Their privacy, and in some cases cleanliness, are taken for granted day by day. The basic
physics of siphoning, and the right amount of water, makes the toilet operate in our desired fashion.
This has been the concept of toilets for over 200 years. Some questions do come to mind when
witnessing this event; how does the water and waste get sucked out of the toilet bowl? Why does the
water get sucked out in a spinning motion? Does it matter which side of the hemisphere creates a
certain trend of spin in the water? These phenomena are more common than one may think, these
things happen through a variety ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The bowl siphon is the one mechanism that makes the flushing feat possible. It s the gooseneck
section leading from the toilet bowl to the sewage pipes. According to the online howstuffworks.com,
the siphon is Any pipe, hose or tube that is used to move a liquid from a higher location to a lower
location. The actual design of the siphon is dependent on the effect caused by it. The function also
depends on the amount of water being transferred to the toilet bowl at one given moment. The tank of
the toilet contains approximately 2 gallons (7.6 liters) of water, when all of that water is moved to the
toilet bowl in a matter of seconds, all of the water going down the pipe creates the siphon effect,
sucking everything out of the toilet. If I were to dump a cup of water, or 25 cups (6 liters) of water for
that matter, it would not be enough to create the siphon effect. The water would only spill over in the
mechanism and drain itself to be level with the highest point of the gooseneck bowl siphon. Doctor
Louis A. Bloomfield, at the online site physicscentral.com, explains that the siphon effect works with
the combination of water and gravity at their finest. H2O has its own variety of different potential
energies.
Gravitational potential energy is at work all night, all day, and every second in between, while water
has its own potential energy due to having either low or high pressure. Water s total potential energy
includes gravitational potential

The Flea By John Donne And His Coy Mistress By Andrew Marvell
During the sixteenth and early seventeenth centuries, poetry was one of the most prevalent writing
styles. There were poets like John Donne and Andrew Marvell who participated in a type of poetry
referred to as metaphysical. Metaphysical poetry essentially is poetry that deals with things that are
more philosophical than anything else. This type of poetry also is very emotion based but also has
logically aspects. These poets have written several bodies of work that can fall under the metaphysical
umbrella. Two examples of metaphysical poems written by these two poets are The Flea and To His
Coy Mistress. Being metaphysical poetry is not the only thing these two poems have in common.

We are introduced to yet another speaker who is using his words to persuade a woman into premarital
sex. Even though the intent was the same in both poems, each speaker had their own unique means of
convincing the woman.
The authors take two very different approaches to persuade a woman to participate in the same act.
Their approaches are reflective in their use of certain language. In The Flea, the speaker is taking the
approach of comparing the act to the happenings of a flea that bit both the speaker and the woman.
The speaker uses this metaphor through the entirety of the poem. The speaker goes on to say that the
flea has already mixed their blood, yet it is not seen as a sin. In this flea our two bloods mingled be;
Thou know st that this cannot be said A sin, nor shame, nor loss of maidenhead (Donne,____). The
speaker takes this logic and says that the flea mixing their blood is taking it a step further than just the
act of premarital sex, so because they were not punished for such an act as their blood actually mixing
then how can they possibly be punished for having sex before marriage. The speaker into His Coy
Mistress takes a different approach from the very beginning by blatantly saying that the women s
coyness towards him could be seen as a crime. Had we but world enough and time, This coyness, lady,
were no crime (Marvell____). The speaker is using this as a means on again romanticizing the
situation. He is saying that in a

Who Is Henry Fuseli Nightmarish
Henry Fuseli: Nightmarish The Enlightenment in art history is best known for promoting reasoning
and rationality just as much as it favored beauty and social progress. However, Henry Fuseli, who
sought to portray human irrationality, often challenged Enlightenment ideals with his work (Cothren,
Stockstad). Painted in 1771 and exhibited at the Royal Academy of London in 1772, Fuseli sought to
make a name for himself with his composition The Nightmare (Tate). The painting leaves its audience
with a dark sense of wonder and intrigue. Fuseli captured an audience during a time in which patrons
had favored easily understood concepts over complex imagery drawn from history or mythology
(Cothren, Stockstad). Fuseli pushed many boundaries and artistic expectations set in this period with
sexually charged compositions and dark tones in narrative. Contentious for its time, The Nightmare is
a classical painting which hinges upon Fuseli s own sexual desires, potentially unrequited love, and
folklore of the period. Certainly, Henry Fuseli s romanticized gothic style both shocked and awed his
audience. However, Fuseli did not always intend to be an artist. Though he was one of eighteen
children with a father who devoted his life to both creating and collecting art, becoming an artist was
not Henry Fuseli s initial pursuit. Despite his art rich upbringing, in the mid 1760 s, Fuseli moved to
England from his hometown of Zürich, Switzerland in search of other achievements. Initially, Henry

True Art Speaks Plainly, By Theodore Dreiser
The literary movement of realism addresses material in an accurate way that is true to life, regardless
of the moral boundaries which may be broken. Several authors have undertaken efforts to define this
movement in the most accurate and concise way possible. Theodore Dreiser, in True Art Speaks
Plainly , strives to identify those components which are necessary to literature that is classified under
the realism movement. William Dean Howells s Editha is a literary work that reflects this definition of
realism. Dreiser s arguments regarding the presence of immorality in literature as a precondition for
artistic honesty find an example in the actions of the protagonist of Howells s story. Theodore Dreiser
s True Art Speaks Plainly defines realism as literature that speaks the truth regardless of its moral
substance, and this definition is observable in Howells s Editha through the corrupt motivations of the
protagonist, the critical portrayal of nation states at war, and the ugly manipulation utilized by the
protagonist.
Editha, the story s protagonist, uses weak moral arguments regarding virtue and honor to support her
selfish desire for recognition through another s sacrifice. Throughout the story, the author reveals that
she wants George to join the war effort in a selfish desire for her own personal glory. Howells writes,
But now, it flashed upon her, if he could do something worthy to have won her be a hero, her hero it
would be even better than if he had done

Different Methods Of Upper Awash River Basin
Climate elements (temperature, humidity, sunshine hours, wind speed, rainfall) and their interaction
with other physical features determine the hydrological process such as rainfall, runoff, recharge, and

  • 2. Politics And Religion By Gerard Hauser Politics and religion have long been entangled in the United States. The United States has struggled with the question of how to maintain an appropriate combination of religion and politics in the public sphere for a long time. Gerard Hauser argues that public spheres are discursive spaces where society deliberates about normative standards and even develops new frameworks for expressing and evaluating social reality . Religion is part of the public sphere and has an influence in American political life in affairs such as leadership, legislation and voter partisanship. Religious rhetoric plays an important role in defining the boundaries of the political community and in setting the tone for political discourse. American democracy owes its birth to the influence of a specific form of Christianity: English Puritanism. The Pilgrims, laid the essential groundwork for America s experiment in self government. Religion was in fact the primary reason for the northern settler s immigration to the New World. These settlers known as Pilgrims because their journey had a religious purpose . They sought to build Puritan communities, to live in America in their manner and pray to God in freedom . The Pilgrims came to establish religious communities, but their beliefs called for such communities to be instituted and administered by the consent of the governed. (Holloway, Carson) As time went by, they began to constitute and frame laws, ordinances, acts and constitutions. Our ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Fuel Consumption Reduction Of Automobile Development 1.1 INTRODUCTION Not only to save energy but also to protect the global environment, fuel consumption reduction is main concern of automobile development. In development of vehicle body, it is essential to reduce drag for improving fuel consumption and driving performance. An aerodynamically purified body is not only aesthetically attractive but also it will help much to increase the vehicles appeal to the customer [1]. If a body of arbitrary shape, immerged in a large stationary mass of fluid is moved with constant velocity through the fluid, the body exerts a force to the fluid, which opposes the motion of the body [4]. Also the fluid exerts a force to the body as every action have equal and opposite direction. The force exerts on the body or the fluid results from the relative motion between the emerged body and its surroundings fluid. As such it makes no difference in the magnitude of the force whether the body through the stationary fluid or the fluid flows about the immerged body which is at rest [5]. In general, vehicles are known to be aerodynamically insufficient compare to other ground vehicles due to their large frontal areas and bluff body shapes. The insufficient aerodynamic shape results in excessive drag which leads to elevated fuel consumption rate [3]. A streamlined shape of vehicle is very important in reducing fuel demand by up to 7%. Vehicles with an aerodynamic shape use less fuel. Air flows easily over them and less energy is needed to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Where does it end? by Mary Oliver [pic] Name: Eman Amer Salim AL amri . ID Number:102400. Section: 350 . Submitted to : Nicholas Hilmers. Where Does the Temple Begin, Where Does It End? There are things you can t reach. But you can reach out to them, and all day long. The wind, the bird flying away. The idea of God. And it can keep you as busy as anything else, and happier. The snake slides away; the fish jumps, like a little lily, out of the water and back in; the goldfinches sing from the unreachable top of the tree. Here the writer describes the wonderful movement of a snake that can make you carious to know how it is created. Furthermore in the same line the speaker give us a simile when she describes the jumping of a fish like a little lily which is type of plant that grows from a bulb and that has large white or coloured flowers .( Oxford dictionary 2006)The writer also gives us another great image of nature :The gold finches sing from the unreachable top of the tree . Here unreachable top of the tree is connected to the first line of the poem where there are things you can t reach even if you want to like the gold finches who sing from a far place. In line 7 the writer invites us to look at nature by saying I look and then saying morning to night where she means she looks at nature all day long without feeling bored or done with looking. In line 8 the writer tells us that in line 7 when she said looking she didn t mean just standing around in nature, but standing around as though with your arms open .Here I think the writer means that your mind should be open and think about what god created .In line 9 the poet extends this idea by saying that when you stand around with your mind open and working, maybe something will come to you, for example, a shining coil of wind. Maybe she means some air which will give you an energetic spirit. Moreover when Oliver says few ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. The Existence Of Antiheros In Don Draper s The antihero phenomenon in television is one that has proven to spark a successful movement, confirming it has the potential for a large, loyal audience base. Aristotle and philosopher, David Hume, have been proven wrong, stating their belief that the antihero model would never succeed. David Hume claimed these antiheros or in his terms, rough heroes would be unsuccessful because we are displeased to find the limits of vice and virtue so much confounded and we are not able to bear an affection for characters we plainly discover to be blameable. So why do so many serial narratives centered on antiheros exist and why are audiences so attached to these types of characters? Antiheros consists of television s most layered and intricate ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The audience needs to be invested in the emotional fate of that character. A driving factor that is an essential component in creating a successful antihero character is the possibility of redemption. For Walter White, Don Draper, and Tony Soprano the realization of their self deception is the key to the possibility of their redemption: Walter White believes everything he is doing is justified by securing his family s financial future, Don Draper can t admit his stolen identity, and Tony Soprano cannot be honest about the nature of his lifestyle. For each of these characters at a level they understand their self deception but at the same time they can t stand to admit what they ve become. However, the audience hopes one day they will admit what they ve become and they ll redeem themselves. We have hope Walter White and Tony Soprano will eventually get out of their lifestyle. We want Don Draper to admit his identity. Although Dexter is aware of his deception, he still experiences an unease with himself and with the relationships he has with others. There is a slight understanding that Dexter is aware of the wrongfulness in his lifestyle that drives the audience to hope that maybe he ll stop killing one day to protect those that he ... • 6. Difference Between The Aeneid And The Iliad Regardless of the time frame, Virgil s Aeneid and Homer s epic the Iliad share both a copious amount of similarities and differences. For example, many common themes such as heroism, fate, and destiny are apparent in both works. Within the Aeneid and the Iliad, it is seen that the wars going on during that time were glorious that is why the role of gods were significant in leading both Aeneas and Achilles and influencing fate. In both texts, it is clear from the beginning that the role of the gods is to make Aeneas and Achilles fulfill their journey The Iliad focuses on the end of the Trojan War and the damaging power, while the Aeneid is focused during the aftermath of the war and underlies the foundation for the new civilization. This paper will address and argue the comparison of the role of gods and how each of the authors representation of the gods have influence on the lives of mortals. In both the Aeneid and the Iliad their main characters were chosen by gods because they have gained favor. Aeneas and Achilles were chosen because they were destined to fulfill a journey. The gods in both works directed the lives of mortals, but, were also very specific on who they would help. The gods determined the destiny of the mortals. Achilles and Aeneas are similar in the sense that they have become favorable in the eyes of the gods, partially because of their divine nepotism but also because they stand out from ordinary men by having a great military and physical prowess. ... • 7. Cicero And Obama Similarities Marcus Tullius Cicero was a powerful politician in Ancient Rome. He was revered and respected by many, and he also had a unique quality to him: he was a novus homo , a man who was new to the Roman political scene and did not have any ancestors that took part in it. He is still renowned today as one of the most prominent orators of Ancient Rome, not unlike many US Presidents of our modern world. Despite his status as a novus homo, however, his speeches are more similar to those of John F. Kennedy, a man from a long line of politicians, than with those of politicians such as Barack Obama, who never was involved with his father s political work in Kenya. Textual evidence shows that Cicero s speeches and strategies align much more closely with ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Though Cicero put more trust in his colleagues while Obama extended that trust to his citizens, both men acknowledge that their achievements were not doable without help from others. This is seen in Cicero s speech when he thanks and credits Lucius Flaccus and Gaius Pomptinus, who were the praetors of the republic who helped expose Catiline and his allies. Cicero speaks highly of them: Illi autem, qui omnia de re publica praeclara atque egregia sentirent, sine recusatione ac sine ulla mora negotium susceperunt...[.] He praises them, stating that they immediately rushed to help him expose the conspirators. Obama made many similar statements as president, but one rises above the others: his speech when awarding his Vice President, Joe Biden, the medal of freedom. In it, he says about Biden that he ...Just wanted to get some folks together to pay tribute to somebody who s not only been by my side for the duration of this amazing journey. But somebody who has devoted his entire professional life to service to this country. He goes on to list his accomplishments and how he helped Obama during his presidency. • 8. Jim Sardonis Reverence Analysis The sculpture that caught my eye the most for this assignment is called Reverence by Jim Sardonis. This piece of artwork is a three dimensional assemblage sculpture. It is made of pieces of granite which is an igneous rock. It was put together piece by piece which required special tools and equipment and also a lot of space to work. It is an in the round sculpture, which means the whole thing cannot be photographed in one photo and there are many different views of it depending on where you are standing. This is a beautiful sculpture that has many meaning to it. It depicts two whales tails as they appear to be diving into a field of grass. The grass represents the ocean. First of all, it puts the viewer in awe of one of the largest animals ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Sardonis made this art to show the world that we, as a whole, have a great effect on the living creatures in this world, no matter how big or how small. We should have much more respect towards animals that live in our oceans. The whales tails in the sculpture are about 12 feet long. I assume they would look very large in person but they are nowhere near the size of a realistic whale s tail. I think seeing the big tails in person would make people realize little things can and should be prevented so we don t destroy the habitats and homes of underwater creatures like these huge whales. Whenever humans let unnatural substances into the water, (example: oil spills) it causes pollution which is leading to the extinction of whales. This sculpture is making people notice the beauty of these humongous whales in hopes of making us more cautious in what we do in our everyday lives to preserve the lives of these mammals. It will be our fault when the species of whales are extinct. Humans continue to pollute oceans everyday by putting our dirty, untreated sewage water straight into the water where these animals live. This is causing the population of whales and other animals in the ocean to die down ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 10. The Energy Of Solar Energy The U.S. Energy Future is one of the most talked about subjects in science. There are many different types of alternative energy to using fossil fuels. Scientists have warned the population that the fossil fuels that we current use for our main fuel source may run out in less than 100 years (James Trefil Robert Hazen, 2013). While the fossil fuels are readily available to our current generations, we need to start making great results in switching our main energy source to more renewable energy for our future generations. I have researched a few of the most popular alternative energy sources for the U.S. future. One area of US Energy Future that has been in place for some time now is Solar Energy. Solar energy was first developed in 1954 by Daryle Chapin, Gerald Pearson and Calvin Fuller in the form of silicon photovoltaic cells. In 1958 the solar energy field took off. The Vanguard 1 weather satellite used solar power to power the radios and other equipment on the spacecraft. After the successful 1 year mission using the solar power, the Lunar Lander, Mars Viking Mission, Hubble Telescope and the Space Shuttle all used solar power on their crafts (OSU Test Report, 2015). Some of the problems with solar energy were the high cost of development and the amount of land that was needed for the solar fields to be used and where to store the energy. One another problem was the weather being unpredictable. The lack of sunlight would lower the amount of solar ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

What Is The Controversy Of Huckleberry Finn Some literary critics agree with Ernest Hemingway that all modern American literature comes from one book by Mark Twain called Huckleberry Finn... it s the best book we ve had. All American writing comes from that. There was nothing before. There has been nothing as good since, (Hemingway). While others feel that The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn does not belong in the literary canon and that it is itself literally incoherent (Jehlen). Unquestionably, it is now one of the most often debated major work in American literature (Fertig). They address the importance of family and heritage by using objects or feelings, metaphorically, to express their family or heritage. I answered her with a simple yes and wanted to drop it. Instead I was asked about my kid and id I was married while making small talk waiting for two other people. She looks at my ring on my hand and went on to say how she doesn t understand single mothers and why they would want that life for their kids. I then start giving her my two cents in the matter, I told her how more than 57% of families are single mother homes. If this women was like my aunt her husband died in Iraq before her two son s where even born. Out of that 57% of women only 10% get pregnant knowing they will be single mothers. She looked at me like I had said something wrong but to me I was saying everything right. Then I spoke on how that 10% of women have kids because they know they will be great at being a parent with or without a partner. From what I read in my classes most women over the age of 30 get pregnant to be single mothers, there are even support groups to help them. That make this chose and they look at all the options they have. They can t adopt a kids a single woman trying to adopt a kid look s bad on paper. Somewhere in the world, one can find people selling anything so why would people come to you? Are you selling something unique, do you make or market something that no one can find anywhere else or would find it almost impossible to find elsewhere? • 35. The Importance Of Maintaining The Correct Acid Base Balance The importance of maintain the correct acid base balance in the body is crucial for a healthy lifestyle. Human bodies are very sensitive to pH levels and must be maintained to prevent any health issues. The term pH means potentials oh hydrogen. To function properly our blood pH is regulated at 7.4. The degree of acidity or alkalinity is referred to as the acid base balance. The acidity levels increase when the acidic compounds in the blood increase of the alkaline compounds in the blood fall. Alkalinity increases when the reverse occurs. The levels of alkaline and acidic compounds depend on the body s intake, production or decreased elimination or vice versa. If the pH rises or falls increasingly the body s proteins and enzymes can denature and stop functioning. This can cause serious diseases such as cancers or even death. Therefore, our body has essential mechanisms in place to regulate the pH of our blood. Regulating acid base balance: The main functions of the body that deal with maintaining acid base balance are the buffer, renal and respiratory systems. Buffer System: Normal metabolism produces hydrogen in the form of acids; to maintain the pH of the blood the acids are buffered or removed from the body. A buffer works in a pair, a weak acid is activated when the pH is at risk from a strong base/ a weak base is activated when the pH is at risk from a strong acid. Their privacy, and in some cases cleanliness, are taken for granted day by day. The basic physics of siphoning, and the right amount of water, makes the toilet operate in our desired fashion. This has been the concept of toilets for over 200 years. Some questions do come to mind when witnessing this event; how does the water and waste get sucked out of the toilet bowl? Why does the water get sucked out in a spinning motion? Does it matter which side of the hemisphere creates a certain trend of spin in the water? The bowl siphon is the one mechanism that makes the flushing feat possible. It s the gooseneck section leading from the toilet bowl to the sewage pipes. According to the online howstuffworks.com, the siphon is Any pipe, hose or tube that is used to move a liquid from a higher location to a lower location. The actual design of the siphon is dependent on the effect caused by it. The function also depends on the amount of water being transferred to the toilet bowl at one given moment. The tank of the toilet contains approximately 2 gallons (7.6 liters) of water, when all of that water is moved to the toilet bowl in a matter of seconds, all of the water going down the pipe creates the siphon effect, sucking everything out of the toilet. If I were to dump a cup of water, or 25 cups (6 liters) of water for that matter, it would not be enough to create the siphon effect. The water would only spill over in the mechanism and drain itself to be level with the highest point of the gooseneck bowl siphon. Doctor Louis A. Bloomfield, at the online site physicscentral.com, explains that the siphon effect works with the combination of water and gravity at their finest. H2O has its own variety of different potential energies. Gravitational potential energy is at work all night, all day, and every second in between, while water has its own potential energy due to having either low or high pressure. • 43. Who Is Henry Fuseli Nightmarish Henry Fuseli: Nightmarish The Enlightenment in art history is best known for promoting reasoning and rationality just as much as it favored beauty and social progress. However, Henry Fuseli, who sought to portray human irrationality, often challenged Enlightenment ideals with his work (Cothren, Stockstad). Painted in 1771 and exhibited at the Royal Academy of London in 1772, Fuseli sought to make a name for himself with his composition The Nightmare (Tate). The painting leaves its audience with a dark sense of wonder and intrigue. Fuseli captured an audience during a time in which patrons had favored easily understood concepts over complex imagery drawn from history or mythology (Cothren, Stockstad). Fuseli pushed many boundaries and artistic expectations set in this period with sexually charged compositions and dark tones in narrative. Contentious for its time, The Nightmare is a classical painting which hinges upon Fuseli s own sexual desires, potentially unrequited love, and folklore of the period. Certainly, Henry Fuseli s romanticized gothic style both shocked and awed his audience. However, Fuseli did not always intend to be an artist. Though he was one of eighteen children with a father who devoted his life to both creating and collecting art, becoming an artist was not Henry Fuseli s initial pursuit. Despite his art rich upbringing, in the mid 1760 s, Fuseli moved to England from his hometown of Zürich, Switzerland in search of other achievements. Initially, Henry ... Theodore Dreiser, in True Art Speaks Plainly , strives to identify those components which are necessary to literature that is classified under the realism movement. William Dean Howells s Editha is a literary work that reflects this definition of realism. Dreiser s arguments regarding the presence of immorality in literature as a precondition for artistic honesty find an example in the actions of the protagonist of Howells s story. Theodore Dreiser s True Art Speaks Plainly defines realism as literature that speaks the truth regardless of its moral substance, and this definition is observable in Howells s Editha through the corrupt motivations of the protagonist, the critical portrayal of nation states at war, and the ugly manipulation utilized by the protagonist.
